This is your Forecast Friday, where we look ahead to our weekend fixture at home to out-of-form Spurs in the Premier League.  We consider whether the Bees can build on last week's result to push into the top 10, whether Michael Kayode will come straight in for his debut, and a look back on our previous meetings against these opponents.

Brentford's Chances Against Spurs

00:00:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
So then let's get into it as Tottenham visit the G-Tech on Sunday. I've got mixed emotions about this one. um It's always a case, I think, when a traditional bigger team who is struggling comes to the G-Tech. In my head, I'm a little bit conflicted as whether Brentford should be considered the favours for this one or not. It's a little bit like when we face Manchester United in the past, when they've been struggling.
00:01:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
and and we'll come onto it. But I think my my concerns are that when Tottenham are at their best, they are probably better team than us. um And to that aspect, I think a little bit of it is out out of control as to whether we should be expected to win at the weekend.
00:01:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
It is what taught them side turn up, um but clearly if it is the one we have seen in recent weeks, then there is absolutely every opportunity Brentford can get something out of this and should be confident and may well consider themselves the favorites.

Injury Updates for Norgaard and Shada

00:01:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just looking ahead to the team news, Christian Norguard and Kevin Shada both came off early against Palace last week. In Shada's case, I would expect him to be okay. I think he may have had slight concussion.
00:01:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
or they, or they made us want to take him off as per the head injury protocol. So I expect Kevin Charlotte to be fine in relation to Christian Norgaard. It is a bit more worrying given that, um, you know, he's the first to be rested when we have a cup game. It seems very much like Christian Norgaard can't play three games in a week.
00:02:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
It seems like fitness wise, you know, he is a little bit made of glass and sometimes when he is injured, you know, he can be prone to it and he is out for a little while. Having said that, Thomas Frank said that he is OK after the game. and But I am a little bit cautious about comments that Thomas Frank made, as we all know, last week um in his pre-match press conference, he also said Rika Henry would be fit and available, I think.
00:02:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's not the only time that Thomas Rank in the media has suggested someone is available only for them not to be when it comes to kick off.

Defensive Strategies and Player Options

00:02:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
At right back there is now a position opening up in the team. Of course, Maz Rossev departed early this week despite starting and playing 90 minutes against Crystal Palace. Will we then see Michael Coyote straight in at right back? His international clearance should be through in time.
00:03:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
for this game or will we see Christopher Iyer who I think is another option to play on that right hand side. I think the decision around this is difficult for me to make a definitive judgement because I've not seen Coyote play for Brentford, he's not played in the Premier League before.
00:03:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think perhaps it will depend on how he's trained this week, how well he's connecting with the other players, um whether Thomas Frank thinks he's ready to dive straight in. um I know he hasn't played too much this season for Fiorentina, so maybe and it will be a case of him being on the bench and being eased in, in which case I would expect Christopher Iyer to start, um and we and we know what he can bring on the right-hand side. you know he's He's reliable. He can drive forward on that side, perhaps more than Rossev did.
00:03:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
and and you know he's he's a solid defender as well so I wouldn't be entirely against um Christopher Iyer starting on the right hand flank and I think he can really do a job there for us if he can keep himself fit and stay fit that's the risk with him as well I think we've got to give him time on the pitch but you know if he needs to come off early that might be the case we need to protect him for future games There are also some rumors this week that Ethan Pinnock is rumored to be back soon. However, I was thinking about this. There was a lot of discussion before Ethan Pinnock got injured, whether um he's not as good this season, whether
00:04:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nathan Collins is outshining him, whether her Ethan Pinnock is perhaps struggling a little bit with the way we're trying to play this season. I was always at the view that, yes, he was struggling a bit, but you know he's been so good for us so many years. I wasn't at the view that he needed to be dropped from the side. However, having seen Vandenberg and Nathan Collins build a partnership together in the last few weeks and you know given their age profiles, I think there's every potential that that partnership could be the one we look forward with.
00:04:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
next season and beyond. I am not sure there's a real need to rush Ethan Pinner back in there. I think, again, he he would he would may benefit from being on the bench, you know, being there if um anything happens to over Vandenberg and Collins. But yeah, at the moment, I think I quite like that partnership is blossoming. And I think it can only grow. So I would stick, I think with Vandenberg and Collins, even if Ethan Pinnock is to return at the weekend. Of course, having the likes of Pinnock and Ayah back and Ben, me, who's been back in recent weeks as well, does give Brentford the option to play a back five. And I think it becomes more feasible.
00:05:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
in those circumstances because, you know, we have a number of competence at the back, so we're able to do that.

Tottenham's Form and Key Players

00:05:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
I would say, though, based on Tottenham's recent form, based on how they've been playing, I think we can feel a bit brave here and I think that we can go for it and really try and take the game for Spurs. So I would expect to see a back four here. I don't think I would make any other changes. It would not surprise me if we dropped Kevin Schar to the bench and we saw um another midfielder come in, perhaps Jensen, to just add bodies into the midfield like we like to do against the bigger side sometimes. I can see the logic for that, but I also do want Kevin Schar to play this one, I think.
00:06:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think he he put a good account in last week. He scored a brilliant header. um And I think we just need him for that extra dynamic he offers in the front three, the ability to go along to him. I think he will help us attack him more regularity. And I think he was good last week, so he deserves to keep his place in the side. um If Norgad is fit, there is that age old question as to whether him and Janelle should both start.
00:06:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think maybe given Spurs do you still have an attacking threat maybe this is one where they both should start um although I think there also is an argument to have Jenson in the side given with his creative abilities and I thought he showed that again off the bench against Palace
00:07:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's talk about Tottenham a little bit then. So there are some reports this week, and this is being recorded on a Wednesday, that Vicario was in training for Tottenham. And there's also rumours that Romero and van de Ven could also return this weekend. I think that would be big for them. I mean, Posca Cogloo has said a lot about how the recent results can be attributed to and injuries and not having enough player available. And I think in that centre back area and in goal, I think those are the most important areas that Tottenham have been missing out on. And we've seen the likes of Archie Gray, who almost signed Brentford in the summer, played lots of minutes, but a lot of those minutes being centre back. And I just don't think that suits him at all. and So I think it would be a big boost if any of those three were back at the weekend.
00:07:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
um They do play on Thursday Tottenham, Thursday night at um ah home I believe, so it will be interesting to see if any of them play there.
00:08:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think Kudaszewski has arguably been Spurs' is best player this season. Of course they have the likes of Son as well who's been so good for them over the years but maybe has started to show signs of slowing down. Solanke up front is injured so he won't feature here and and obviously they've got fallbacks such as Pedro Porro who is capable for an assist, capable of putting the crosses into the box for the Spurs attackers to finish off. So I think there are still dangers which Brentford need to be aware of. I think they can still be very, very good offensively. um And I would expect there to be a competitive team. It's just how fit they are. I think they've had to play so many games. Spurs haven't been able to make many changes recently. They're going to have to go again on Thursday before they come to the GCEC. So it will be an interesting dynamic.
00:08:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
um to see how they line up and how many players are back, if any. I've seen that James Madison has been out recently as well and I expect him maybe to feature as well on Sunday. That will do for part one then.

Hello and welcome to part two of your daily Brentford podcast with myself, Daniel. So despite having beaten Spurs once in the Premier League, which was in May, 2023, we have never beaten them at the GTEC with all three meetings being draws, including the opening day of last season. Brentford, of course, lost a reverse fixture free one this time around, despite Brian and Pumo scoring in the first minute in what was amidst the run of um crazy starts that we had. But at the same time, we also struggled to take points from those games earlier in the season. Tottenham, as things stand, are currently 15th. Eight points off the relegation zone and seven points behind Brentford. They have never finished below 14th in a 20-team Premier League season, and they've lost five of their last six games, with the exception of being a home draw versus Wolves. They've lost
00:11:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
They've only won one game in their last 11 league games, which I believe is against Southampton. Um, and they've lost against relegation candidates, Everton and Leicester in their last two games. So this makes for quite frankly, terrible reading. I think if, if, um, these were Brentford stats, um, they would still be, you know, very, very poor and we'd be very, very disappointed. So you can only imagine how disappointed in Tottenham are with how things are going.
00:11:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, I can caveat by saying they have had some success in cup competitions during that time. um They've got a lead against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final going into the second leg. um There's every chance they'll go through as one of the top um six or top eight in Europe. And and obviously the Europa League will be something that's also very important to them. um They were taken to extra time on the other hand against Tamworth only a few weeks ago.
00:12:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
so There are vulnerabilities and there are strengths in this Tottenham team. I think the reason I am always slightly sceptical when we play a side like this, one of the bigger sides who are underachieving, is that if they are able to hit their ceiling, if they are able to hit their best form again, and I do think it will come at some stage. um You know, it was only in November they beat City 4-0 at the Etihad. They are very capable of doing it.
00:12:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think if they hit get anywhere near their top level, then we're in for a very difficult afternoon and you know, we'll probably be second favorites to win the game. Having said that, you know, we we also can't ignore how Tottenham been playing recently and you know, confidence must be low. And I think it does say a lot when confidence is low. I think it can impact the team on the pitch, particularly if Brentford got ahead or particularly even his Spurs got ahead.
00:13:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
given their recent record of dropping points on winning positions and you know not not being able to hold out um to those leads. So I think there's vulnerabilities there that we can hopefully take advantage of. Of course, there's a lot of players who played a lot of minutes recently. They might not be in the best condition, which we've also got to take advantage ah of. The fact they're playing Thursday may benefit us as they're low on numbers at the moment.
00:13:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
and you know, and the fact that there will be players out of position, the fact that there will be players that are tired against, you know, a much fresher Brentford team. I think we've got to put these factors into our advantage.

Match Predictions and Key Players

00:13:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
I do think we have to be wary though. I do think there'll be very good going forwards and I do think there'll be goals in this game and I can see both teams scoring. I think the best way we could go about it is I think we've got to be brave. I think we've got to attack and I think we've got to take the game to Spurs given their recent results. I think we've got to be confident that we can win and that we are playing better of the two teams at the moment. That requires us getting forward regularly, um whether that's, you know, through, through the likes of Karen Shada, going slightly longer to him, or whether we're able to play through the midfield, the likes of Damsgaard, feeding Mbuma and Whissa, whether that is Jenson starting and him spraying balls from a deeper position.
00:14:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
whether you know either Coyote or I are from the right-hand side you know able to bomb up that wing with Keynote's putter bombing up the other wing. I think that's all something that we should be looked to do. I think when Spurs have the ball, when they're getting forward, you know we need to be strong and commanding at the back. You know, it might be somebody like Richarlison if he's fit up front for Spurs. So, you know, not as physical ah ah as a presence as Solanke, but he can be a pain and we and we struggled against him in the past. So whoever is playing in defense, I expect it to be Collins and Vandenberg and the likes of Norgaard if he's fit and you know, in front of them, you know, they need to be solid. They need to clear their lines and they need to get us help us get on the attack, I think.
00:15:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
if this becomes a game that is slightly crazy. Normally I'd say it would suit Brentford, but I think on this occasion, maybe it's something that would suit Spurs as well. Having said that, it is prediction time and I think this has been a season of firsts so far.
00:15:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
and And by saying that, what I mean is, you know, prior to this season, we hadn't beaten Crystal Palace. We've now beaten them home and away. We hadn't beaten Leicester in the Premier League. We've now beaten them. We hadn't beaten Newcastle in the Premier League, and now we've beaten them to the extent that there's nobody else now that we have have played in the Premier League that we haven't beaten at some point. So.
00:15:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Given the fact that we have never beaten Spurs at the GTEC, I am going to go with a home win. I think we can create more history. Just like last week, we had never, we hadn't won that so has Park in the Premier League era. I am going to go with a 3-1 Brentford win. I do think both sides of score. I think Tottenham, despite their struggles, are still the third highest scorers in the Premier League. Brentford being the sixth highest scorers. So I do expect there to be a game where both teams score, but then on the flip side, I think, going forwards, we've got to be confident. With the players we've got going forwards, you know, with with with the likes of Son, slightly out of form, you know, you could argue that we have the better attack at the moment with Mbuma, Wisser, Schade, Damsgaard. So I'm going to go for 3-1 Brentford. I'm going to go with Wisser, Mbuma, and Schade, all to get on the score sheet and Damsgaard to get a couple of assists in there. so
00:16:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
That is my prediction. I'm going bold just as I did when we played Manchester City. And I was almost right by saying through to Brentford, if only Brian and Buma scored right at the end um when the scores were at two. So let's hope I'm right on this occasion. And as I said before, you know, this is a perfect opportunity to brent for Brentford to go on a run and really try and cement that top 10 place really to push towards eighth place, which is likely to be Europe this season.
00:17:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
providing the Premier League gets the extra Champions League spot. So I'm excited. You know, this, these are the games at the moment, and and I've been saying it for a couple of weeks now, but these are the games where we can go on a run. I thought Palace would have been one of the more difficult of those games. And we've come through that challenge. So there's every opportunity. I think we've got everything to gain and nothing to lose at the moment, um given, you know, where we are, we're relatively comfortable in the league as well. So but So we can par more pressure on Spurs at the weekend as Hans Poskogli still seems to be hanging on to his job, which I think I've got, I guess would be a good thing going into this weekend. So that will do for today. Thank you for listening to the Daily Brentford podcast. We hope you've enjoyed today's episode. And once again, we would be extremely grateful for your support as this will enable us to go bigger and better moving forwards.
