Introduction to 'Feel Your Feelings'

00:00:05
Speaker
Hey there, I'm Victoria Maconjewola and you're listening to Feel Your Feelings, the podcast where high achievers get real about mental wellness. You feel me? Welcome to season one and honey, we're about to get messy.
00:00:19
Speaker
This season is all about
00:00:30
Speaker
this season is all about highlighting the unglamorous truth behind pursuing excellence.

Season's Theme: The Unglamorous Truth of Excellence

00:00:37
Speaker
And I'm bringing that into my hashtag host to host series where I bring on fellow podcasters who know what it's like to create space for others while still trying to figure it out themselves.
00:00:48
Speaker
that I believe just like today happened. And that's all I kept on saying. Lord, all things work together. He taught you about leadership that you think will help college students watch this interview.
00:01:01
Speaker
Today, I'm joined by my big brothers in spirit. Jeremy Robinson, host of the It Factor podcast, and Dan Juan Wittre Sr., host of Stool Talk podcast. We're talking about the mental wellness side of being a host and creator and the weight of holding space and how we each navigate our own chaos while helping others process theirs. Hope you guys enjoy this episode. Let's get into it.
00:01:26
Speaker
All right, Jeremy and Dan Juan. Thank you guys for being here today. How are you guys feeling? Good. Good. Feeling good. I'm thankful be here. maybe It's Tuesday, but it feels like it's later in the week.
00:01:38
Speaker
Right. But, uh, Nothing crazy, nothing crazy going on. So happy about that. Amazing. Amazing. It's wonderful to have you guys on the show.

Embracing 'Messy' in Pursuit of Excellence

00:01:49
Speaker
And so this, this season's theme is, is called messy and it's all about embracing the mess and really being real about the pursuit behind excellence.
00:02:00
Speaker
And um as you guys know, this podcast has been revamped and I'm really trying to talk to high achievers and, People, high achievers and people that want to get real about their mental wellness. And I know both of you guys are podcast hosts.
00:02:16
Speaker
And i want to know, how are you guys feeling about your podcasting journey right now? And you can take turns. ah Want to

Insights on Podcast Journeys and Impact

00:02:26
Speaker
go first, man?
00:02:27
Speaker
Okay. oh I'm feeling good. I'm feeling excited. um It's a new season. It's ah not just in the podcast, but a new season just in life and what's going on.
00:02:38
Speaker
And it always helps when you've got amazing friends that's inside this you know this world, inside of this, what we do as creatives that's able to of hit back and forth questions, topics, ideas, or you see, uh, Jeremy, I'm watching him, watching his podcast, how it grows excited for you to see what's going on. But even after that, uh, interview that we all have had just to see, um, that you are appreciative of people and to see that their journeys is helping people.
00:03:08
Speaker
So I'm feeling like, um, It's time to to be excellent, to move in excellence. You know, the Bible always says operating things decently and in their order.
00:03:18
Speaker
So that's how i kind of look at it as far as what I'm doing. I want everything to be decent. I want it to be in order. I want it to be smooth. I want my times to be it. I want to make sure that I get better on the things that I may have not.
00:03:31
Speaker
in the past been strong at my weaknesses. I wanna start bringing strengths to them, different things, different ideas. Jeremy might shoot something to me like, hey, you should try this. So start implementing that in into my work, to my content to make it better.
00:03:45
Speaker
load Awesome. I'm to use one of the young people thing. I say an old people thing. I piggyback off that. New season, new things happening in my life to allow me to be the podcast I am today.
00:03:58
Speaker
thank God for, course, the podcast. But I'm taking it myself to another level when it comes to... Not just saying, oh, podcast, I'm going to do something. I'm going to write my articles, man. I'm going to do something to give more of myself to the people that I say, oh, they podcast. people ask for certain things. I'm like, hey, if I can do it, I do it.
00:04:17
Speaker
But a lot of things I do for myself. So that's what made me excited. You know, just like my article I did just now about ah Prime, about... Travis Hunter and Bo Jackson. It's crazy that all that came together with knowing that just now yesterday when we found out about Coach Prime and eating cancer.
00:04:36
Speaker
like, yeah. is like yeah I did that off the strength of just, hey, let's talk about Travis Hunter in a positive way. And I'm thankful that if some positivity got out of there. We're in the midst of all that going on with Coach Prime. So hopefully one day he sees it.
00:04:50
Speaker
You know, it's more than just getting people on the show now. It's more like going into see closing out season six soon and going into season seven of my podcast.
00:05:01
Speaker
It's more about, hey, man, we did it. okay, let's continue doing it, but let's do it in a better way. And how many other people can we help while we're doing this versus how many people can I get on my show?
00:05:13
Speaker
So that's something I'm looking at now

Authentic Storytelling in Podcasts

00:05:15
Speaker
and just seeing how I can help you all, but also other people that reach out or certain people that have been on the show. have been able to connect them with people. It need to be a job. It need to be an athlete. It need to be certain things. And I'm like, that ain't me. That's God. I'm thankful that I can do that.
00:05:31
Speaker
But I'm just thankful for where the podcast space is. Thankful that we all bring positivity. We don't bring no negativity. Absolutely. Thankful that we're making a real impact.
00:05:42
Speaker
even We don't see Yeah, super thankful. We thank God for Coach Prime's health as well. And I'm so glad to hear the good news about him and that he's doing well. So, yeah, I've been blessed to be on both of your both of you guys's podcasts on the stool talk and the it factor.
00:06:00
Speaker
So for someone who has just now was kind of stumbling upon both of your shows for the first time, what emotion would you describe as like the vibe of your show?
00:06:14
Speaker
I would say it's a positive show. oh We bring out the real in people. It's a lot of genuinality and from the heart. Yeah. You know, a lot of things that i didn't see in season one of the show with a mattress in the back, I get to see now and I get a lot of people to come back like, hey, I want to do it again. Or, hey, I'm in this spot now.
00:06:35
Speaker
And I'm thankful I always can be a podcast for the people, no matter your stature, no matter how famous you are, no matter who you are. You know, and, you know, you get to express yourself in a way that don't think every podcast does.
00:06:49
Speaker
So that's what makes me different. That's beautiful. I would say positive. I would say, um, everybody's journey that comes on on the show.
00:07:00
Speaker
is important. It's not small talk. It's where a purpose takes the mic because purpose is everything. And I want everybody to walk in their purpose. I want people to be able to know that their story is one that's going to help, you know, other people achieve different things, goals and things that they're going after and let them know that their story is important just as well. It don't have to be that you're a superstar athlete. don't have to be that you got all these accolades. Your story is what your story is because God made you special, unique, and you serve a purpose once inside of yourself. you know I want them to be more confident in themselves and even shine light on the things that they're doing.
00:07:39
Speaker
that most people might not think about, but hey, look, this person is doing that. And like Jeremy said, too, be a help, you know, be a help. me Like for somebody that needs it, be an answer to a prayer, be an answer to a question and just, you know, so into different things.
00:07:54
Speaker
Absolutely. I would say for my show, think messy is the word that it kind of is.

Embracing Podcasting Challenges

00:08:00
Speaker
It sticks out to me right now. And it's something that I'm leaning into because before i would definitely try to make sure everything was perfect. Sounds perfect.
00:08:07
Speaker
looks perfect. And mind you, I'm an independent podcaster doing it from my home and just still figuring it out. So this season, I'm really trying to give myself grace to to be myself and talk to people, even if my voice is shaking, even if I'm nervous, but like um I'm in the process and I know that I deserve to be here and I have the skill set and, you know, the people that have been on here that I can lean on.
00:08:35
Speaker
So ah digging deeper into this, guys, um what is the messiest part of hosting a podcast that not a lot of not a lot of podcasters talk about?
00:08:47
Speaker
oh it's a method to the madness. Yeah. You know, I like that quote because... Things go left real quick in podcasting. When it comes to booking people, when it comes to being a people person, when it comes to your mic not working, when it comes to the video not recording, it's so many things that have happened to me.
00:09:10
Speaker
How about that? dead That's just like, yeah, the the whole episode did not record this person. and is like I only can't it today. I think that behind the scenes, a lot of people see it like, oh man, I can't believe that happened.
00:09:23
Speaker
You know, so a lot of times are you speaking might go out. You think you're talking or doing something. It's so many things that can happen. And that's how, you know, we passionate about it. Hi there. How are you feeling?
00:09:34
Speaker

I want you to have the same easy experiences that I do for my podcasting and content needs. It's time to share your story. feel me? Before we got cut off, the question that I was asking was,
00:10:27
Speaker
um tell me about your experience hosting a podcast that not other hosts talk about. Like, what is the messiness going on behind the scenes?

Behind-the-Scenes Podcasting Challenges

00:10:37
Speaker
Yeah.
00:10:38
Speaker
Things go left, like I said, you know just like just then. We're going to keep it real. Authentic. Things happen. It happens to all of us. And we get the calls, the texts.
00:10:48
Speaker
How they having them? few weeks ago, had a great coach on Alabama A&M. She's amazing. I'm recording the episode. we I'm thinking we live. My auntie, friends, family, it's multiple people. Multiple deltas.
00:11:02
Speaker
Because she's a delta. I just see all these people. I'm like, thank you, God. The whole time, guess what? It ain't on YouTube. It ain't nowhere to be seen. and i'm Not the aunties. She's looking at me like,
00:11:18
Speaker
good keep going but like We're going to talk. All right, cool. Because we just got that knowledge. But once it's over, I was mad probably like, but I'll keep real. But the biggest thing I learned in that was, guess what? It still got recorded.
00:11:31
Speaker
The audio is still good. She's still happy. Let's put out a product. The product is still great. And it ain't about you. When it's a problem, too, it's like, oh, your feelings, everything's ball.
00:11:43
Speaker
It's like, that's right that lady story. This thing, okay, it wasn't on YouTube. Oh, that didn't go right. I cannot control that. But guess what I learned? I can fix it for the next time. And I was able to fix it just a few days later and had a another successful podcast. And that podcast was successful because her her players were reaching out to me. Oh, you have my coach. Can i get on with that?
00:12:03
Speaker
Like, right, cool. So it's a method to the madness, man. That's my must-be-over. Yeah. I think before I go, I want to piggyback on something you said, giving yourself grace in the mess. yeah ah Being able to hold it all together when different things happen, accepting that and excellence, when we strive for excellence, we make mistakes, questions ah like, why did this happen? but like you said, think about what the bigger picture is and then letting go of perfection and embrace the process, the journey, the journey of I'm learn from this. What can I do?
00:12:38
Speaker
And then forgive yourself for making mistakes. Forgive yourself for not being perfect because ain't nobody perfect, you know, but God. yeah Yeah, and um just the same with his, the booking, the having people on, you ready, you on, you logged up, you got your notes, you you sitting there ready, and they say, oh, I forgot. a lot of the athletes that you have on, they have practice, and then they done booked the scheduled thing, so now they came, now they meeting, then they want you to push it back, so you waiting, then there's somebody else coming.
00:13:07
Speaker
So then, okay I'm going to wait for them. Then you end up, it's a lot in the book, in the canceling, the no-shows, the no-calls, different things like that. um Something that happened to me recently, somebody was at work with me. He drives the truck CDL, so he got bit by a dog in the face.
00:13:24
Speaker
So they needed somebody to drive the truck. You know, um I had a guest, but I reached out to her in a timely manner and I had to reschedule, but I was looking forward to that guest coming on because, you know, she was a person of significance back in my hometown. She's, you know, on the news channel. She'd have made an impact. So things like that happen, you know, that you got to be like,
00:13:46
Speaker
You know, but you got to give us the grace. That's beautiful. um So I know you've you've both interviewed some really high profile people and like amazing athletes as well. Has there been a time or a guest that maybe things went left during the episode or while you were talking to them or something just kind of went wrong than what you were kind of expecting in general?
00:14:14
Speaker
I got something good and something bad. Something good is I get a lot of funny moments. I know that's a messy question, but, you know. But it's real, though. Real. So, I mean, I done had we interviewing, and the kids that came in the room, they cut the lights off on the parents, and the parents, what you doing? And, you know, kind of, hey, hey, hey. Why you lying? Then they keep doing it. I had dogs, animals come across the screen. and like, hold on, please excuse the animals. Like different things like that.
00:14:39
Speaker
Some people that messed up, so they want to stop. Now they're getting all nervous. Or some some people, parents right there, and they arguing with the parents because they want to do by themselves. And they ready. Mom, get out. Let me do this. Or the the parent that came in, no, why you didn't tell them this, this, that? Right. So it's a little bit of that.
00:15:00
Speaker
I feel you. that had the same thing, man. I had people walk in and they like, oh, didn't know you was interviewing. There's so much stuff that happened. And I also have had some people come on and just have to tell you mid-show.
00:15:12
Speaker
Yeah, man, ain't going be able to do this, man. I'm so sorry, man. Yeah, this happened. You like, really? Like, you waited in until now? Like, I did it. So it's it's real. It's like one of those things where I'm now appreciative of it. At first, going be very honest with you, and Dan Juan can speak to it too.
00:15:31
Speaker
We hated We mad. It's like, hey, here they go. But it gets to a point where you're like, ain't doing this for me. It's bigger than me. So, yeah, stuff always happens. But also, sometimes stuff have caught me off guard, too.
00:15:42
Speaker
Like, I have made Shatter Show, right? And got to the point where I was about to pit it out. And I find out something about the person that I don't fully agree with. And i don't like to get my opinion to it. But it was something I was just like, yeah. I don't know if this episode should come out because this guy wasn't speaking like this when we was on the show.
00:15:59
Speaker
And I wrote him a nice email and said, hey, this is not the place where the Effective Podcast is ever going to be going. So, you know, thank you for coming on the show, man, but I won't be airing your show. It only happened once, but it was something that I just could not wrap my head around. I was like, my mama ain't raised me to go for no people that's like that.
00:16:17
Speaker
So it was very wild. The guy, it was doing a political climate stuff, man. It's so much craziness, but yeah.

Mental Health Strategies for Content Creators

00:16:24
Speaker
Yeah, to to the craziness, um how do you guys manage your mental health while you're creating content?
00:16:32
Speaker
You
00:16:35
Speaker
want to tackle it first? you I guess I could tackle it first because this podcast, the foundation is mental health. That's what it initially started as. And yeah.
00:16:47
Speaker
I was talking to kind of anyone and everyone pulling from different energies. And even for me, pulling from ah an empty cup, pouring from an empty cup, knowing that things were stressing me out. I had school, you know, life circumstances and things like that. And trying to talk to people, it wouldn't really make sense.
00:17:07
Speaker
this feel better. So I had to make sure that my mind was right. I got away from my show for a while. I went back to school, took a big step back. And I'm glad that I did that because now I feel like I have more centeredness and more experience to be able to come to the show with and talk to people.
00:17:24
Speaker
um So I think it's still a balancing act for me right now, managing my my mental health. And I need like practical practical things that I could do. I'm doing like gratitude, like um practicing like when I wake up, what are three things that I'm grateful for?
00:17:41
Speaker
and yeah, but I'm curious, I'm curious to know what but you guys do. Just prayer, um understanding what the big picture is, understanding that we're giving out a product, we're giving ourselves by allowing us to create this platform for the guests to come on there to feel safe, to feel secure, to feel like they're heard, to be a ah voice. and kind of putting our feelings to the side because it's not all about us. It's about the guests. It's about what the topic is. And that's the bigger picture because you can have a bad day or bad week sometimes and you come on
00:18:22
Speaker
you interview a guest and that guest will just light you up because something they said, or you might hear, Hey, I heard your interview with this, or I seen this, or you might get some, um you know, feedback from somebody just out in the world and you didn't even know. So it kind of helps you because, you know, we go through different things because it's like what we deal with. Yeah.
00:18:41
Speaker
And, i say the same i pray um i have my journals here that uh my life journal pre journal journal yeah okay physical journal okay that i uh i've been i'm a writer avid writer of course but um my mom taught me this at the early age when i was an athlete to dump certain things into certain categories like when it comes to writing or different things step outside of what you do like i'm a data analyst and engineer that's a lot on your mind.
00:19:11
Speaker
So when I come to podcasts, I ain't thinking about that no more. I'm podcast. I'm having a good time. No matter how it goes, I'm glad to tell this person's story. And it also gives me a time to shut up and listen ah to people.
00:19:25
Speaker
My biggest thing is also mentally, yeah I can turn it off. like I can do this podcast and I can go do something else. like It's not my all be all.
00:19:36
Speaker
and I feel like A lot of times when you make it your all be all, it kind of can drain you. So in a way, and I thank God for allowing me to be able to turn it off.
00:19:47
Speaker
you know But don't get me wrong. I'm always thinking about, hey, let me go write this down. me do real quick. you know That's just me. That's the blessing that I have. And that's what I have to take with me. Because I'm glad God gave that to me. And there's other things that God gave me that I'm able to take.
00:20:01
Speaker
But I'm able to know when it's the time to take a break. Like I'm going say, okay, to take a two-day break. We ain't going to do nothing. going to do this today. We're going do this. you know I kind of try to organize how want stuff to operate.
00:20:15
Speaker
It's a forever journey, but I embrace it. So that's what I would say. Yeah. I definitely picked that up from you because remember, I used to tell you, I used to have to feel like I got to do this. I got to eat. I know you got to give yourself a break. Sometimes just chill, just step away and then come back. Yeah.
00:20:34
Speaker
It's true. would calendars and everything. Like, nope. People are like, I thought you was gone. Can't do it. Let's do it. I think because the fruit is only as good as the tree that it comes from, right so if that tree is healthy and has good roots and is is hydrated, it's not dried out, it's not it's not like sun damaged and you know burnt crisp, you'll see the fruit.
00:21:02
Speaker
through you know the health of that tree. So thank you, God, for that.

Advice to Episode One Selves

00:21:09
Speaker
What would and both of you tell your episode one self about embracing the messy journey?
00:21:17
Speaker
would say keep going. You got the mattress in the back, but a few months later, you're going to move into a house and you're going to be able to set up your production how you want it because your wife gave you a whole room to yourself.
00:21:28
Speaker
I will also say that you learned that it wasn't about you. You thought it was, you didn't know what it was going look like, but look at it now. You know, some of the people you were able to touch. Also, you wrote a whole book and thinking about writing another one from what you do. And people actually have taught your book, have in their class, have helped people.
00:21:47
Speaker
And i can't imagine that over 300 some people I'd interview, I stay in touch with most of them in multiple shapes and forms and fashions. So, keep going.
00:21:58
Speaker
You know, that's what I would tell him on first episode. But the first episode was messy. It was a lot going on. You go back and look, I had another, I had a co-host. Your co-host's going to leave in the second episode, man.
00:22:09
Speaker
You know, so yeah, we had a whole plan, man. It was beautiful. But guess what? Plans, man, things, pray you got to be able to give it and adapt, man.
00:22:19
Speaker
So absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. I would say do it scared. Yes. You know, enjoy the journey. um Because, like, even when I first did it, a nervous, scared, then, like, the first couple ones was all right. But then, like, the first couple ones I was recording and I tried to do, like, I tried to bring a video up.
00:22:40
Speaker
but it went mute, they couldn't hear it. And then I recorded like two artists and something happened where they boom, they stuff cut off. So then they reconnected, but I didn't press record.
00:22:53
Speaker
And she was dropping gems, God was just giving her stuff. And when we went back, it was gone. So don't quit, you know, um it's gonna get better in the end. You're gonna touch many lives and you know, you're gonna be more of a help. So it gets better with time.
00:23:10
Speaker
Absolutely. Thinking about what I would tell my episode one self.
00:23:16
Speaker
I would say to feel your own feelings like you have such a ah big heart and you want to talk to people and you have empathy, which is a fantastic quality to have for anybody.
00:23:29
Speaker
But at some point, you got to turn it around on yourself. Think about you because you're also a person with feelings and you know heavy emotions. And it's OK to sort through them first and then get back to it.
00:23:44
Speaker
you know So yeah, I would tell myself that. And I'm telling myself that again today since I'm kind of relaunching this into its its first official season.
00:23:55
Speaker
So, yeah. How do you guys push through episodes when you don't feel like recording? Because I know there's days. know there's days, you know, where you have things planned and set up.
00:24:08
Speaker
And then maybe that morning or like maybe an hour or heck, even five minutes before. You're just like, I don't. Something's not right. I don't know. will be more intentional, like ah coming from a sports background as well. They used to say the days that you don't feel like doing something, that's the days you go harder.
00:24:25
Speaker
So I would say just be more intentional, do more listening than talking. um Allow them to really be highlighted and, you know, to get through the episode. Because if I keep on going, my demeanor going to look deep on my words might be dry. So just continue to let it be about them.
00:24:43
Speaker
I like that. You're right, man. I do the same. and I kind of do a setback approach. Look back. Look at the questions I'm asking them. Sometimes I go back and reorder them. Like, I'm going to do this right here. Yeah. I ain't going to ask you my ending question.
00:24:58
Speaker
Hey, do you have any questions for me? Nope. We're going to make it all about you. And also, I'll just tell the person. that When they say, hey, how you doing mentally, physically, emotionally? And they ask me, it has happened.
00:25:10
Speaker
Out of five times I think I can recall that happened, three of them times, people have flipped their question on me and I just said, hey, don't feel well, but I'm happy to be here with you. you know Let's go ahead and kill this thing. That's the crazy thing, man. That's real though.
00:25:26
Speaker
Yeah, that is. Yeah, and I'm going to flip it too. how Do you guys have any questions for me? I know that's your signature question, Derby, because you asked me that on your show. But do you guys have any questions for me?
00:25:39
Speaker
How often are you going to try to get people on? Or how often are you going to be dropping episodes? Because I want you to also do some where you're talking by yourself, where there's little clips, because you got that voice. Your voice is going to be heard to catch people. So I just want you to be intentional in your interviews.
00:25:57
Speaker
and intentional with your content, whether you're leaving short videos, whether you just, hey, I'm just coming on here to talk to you all about this today. Boom. Okay, that's it. All right. See you all later. The next episode coming, you know, um like that.
00:26:10
Speaker
I do. And that's a fantastic question because one thing that I was missing big time was structure. there i had no boundaries and structure. So I created ah ah season one planning, like a production template.
00:26:23
Speaker
And my plan is to do a season one in certain episodes. so I have host to host. I have a feature episode. I have Victoria's Reflections and Community Voices.
00:26:36
Speaker
So I opened up a Jot forum to where people can can join the conversation and talk about like, what's the messy part of your life behind your excellence?

Audience Engagement and Guest Outreach

00:26:47
Speaker
um Are you pursuing excellence? And I wanna have an episode just dedicated to community voices. A big thing for me is engagement too, like getting people to be engaged with my content.
00:26:59
Speaker
um As far as structure goes, ah still, want to have my like the titles be a feeling if that makes sense yeah i love that and um yeah so i have i have a seasonal plan i plan to release bi-weekly on wednesdays and i'm going to be talking to authors athletes and artists so my biggest obstacle not obstacle but challenge is outreach because I get anxious reaching out to people. When I was early on in this, going to say in this game, but early on in this, i was i was so I was so eager. I was so eager. I was like, send me an email. I'll reach out right now, right now. Like no fear. But now I'm feeling a little hesitant. You need some authors.
00:27:47
Speaker
Yeah, ah authors, athletes, and artists. And by artists, I mean actors, musicians, people in the creative space, and even visual artists too. I got you. So so yeah, we have a plan. We have a plan. whenever you all talk about like the um Whenever you talk about the mental space and the mental aspect of things and then about you know faith in Christ with mental, I would love to come on and do a statement about that.
00:28:14
Speaker
how to overcome it and how to allow God to change that. When people dealing with mental health issues and when people dealing with different things, how they can go to Christ and what the Bible says about you know mental health when you're struggling, because a lot of people are struggling with that.
00:28:30
Speaker
Yeah. i would I also want to keep tying in my faith into my episodes because looking back and even being on both of your podcasts respectively, like we talked about faith. yeah go And that's that's definitely the foundation as well. so and I might plug that into like Victoria's reflection. So those those reflection episodes, I've only done like one in the past, but I'm thinking of making them like solo recordings where I'm just, you know, talking to the camera and exploring, talking about my feelings. I don't have a co-host. It's just me. Yeah.
00:29:04
Speaker
And yeah, just being real. And it's funny because I've done like video diaries on Snapchat and those feel like little solo episodes, but it's just me talking to me like, hey, future me, this is what's up. Like no one really knows that that side of me. So, yeah, I'm interested to see what that would look like.
00:29:24
Speaker
But yeah, I'm planning this season to go biweekly all the way through December. So that's going to be kind of a long season one, but I'm looking at eight to ten episodes. of so yeah Jeremy, do you have any questions for me?
00:29:39
Speaker
Got a lot of questions, but no. One of biggest questions is would you be open to when you do your feelings to maybe kick it off with that definition of that, you know, like a quote card for it, you know, and that way you can get people involved and tell their different situations. That's another way you can get engagement.
00:29:57
Speaker
So would you be open to something like that? Do you mean... Like posting a card, like a graphic on social media, like an open question, asking people how they're feeling. Yeah. Yeah.
00:30:10
Speaker
yeah Yeah. Maybe make that the instant of your episode. Say like, we interview Clay. And you say, hey, Clay, boom, boom, boom. What's your, you can say either emotion or whatever. And once you do it, whatever, whoever you interview, with whatever you're approaching with, you can use that clip sometimes, depending on what episode is coming up.
00:30:29
Speaker
So like, yeah. I like that. I like that. I'm open. I'm really open to creative, ah new creative direction with the show.
00:30:39
Speaker
Like I have a new theme song on my show. I did an open call for artists and I had someone to submit a really great track that's going to be an official theme song. I'm so excited. And she's going to be my next my next guest that I'm going to be talking to.
00:30:55
Speaker
So I'm very excited to to just restructure everything. and Make it sound more like like a professional podcast. you know when People listen to it like, oh, okay, she's not playing. It sounds like good quality.
00:31:09
Speaker
So quality, I think sound quality above above all is like something I'm really um really gonna do my best at. So. you't like You like using a mic in the speakers? I do. And that's what's bugging me right now with my with my microphone situation. But if I really could, like I would have like a professional studio quality microphone. alone in you know my headphones I'm not complaining about my headphones because these are my day ones.
00:31:38
Speaker
But i would have I would have that great audio quality. yeah My thing is, just look up. Get on us, man. Ask us, like hey, what's the best thing for you? But also, research some things that you want that's cost-effective that you can get and go ahead and get it.
00:31:54
Speaker
I'm never going to be a person that tell you not, oh, don't go get this. or a like I know a lot of people in media, oh, you don't have to have the best. Nope, have what you want. If you want these things, I tell Dan one every time he say, hey, you think I need this camera? I need this light. I'm like, you want it?
00:32:08
Speaker
ah yeah I'm not holding you back because I want you to get this stuff. Like I got good lighting in here, right? Cool. It took me years to get this lighting. Cool. But the biggest thing is that's what I like. I like the lighting.
00:32:20
Speaker
I know going to be able to hear me. It's a Mac. You're going to be able to hear me. ain't worried about that. Yeah. But the biggest thing is I want you be able to see me. So the fact that you can see cool. So if you want people to hear you, like we hear that great voice of yours,
00:32:33
Speaker
go ahead and might don't get them headphones yes sir yes sir yeah every podcaster has their thing like i need i need this i need okay that's more oh this is a good how do you ask for help in the podcasting space when you're supposed to be the expert
00:32:55
Speaker
I had to learn this early that i I wasn't, so I was calling Jeremy with a lot of stuff. from stuff And he was giving me information and

Community Support in Podcasting

00:33:04
Speaker
directing me. Some people act stingy. Some people don't want to, like, they you ain't even in that lane. They act like they don't want to give you no help or they too busy or they forgot.
00:33:13
Speaker
So just asking like, you know what? I don't know this, Jeremy. So, hey, what you think about this? Or posed it to them as different questions. Hey, what you think about this? Or I'm thinking about doing that. Or sometimes people that mess with you, that follow you, be like, hey, is you open to uncorrective criticism?
00:33:28
Speaker
Okay, I'm just thinking an egg. They might give you some suggestions. Yeah. Oh, that's good. That's the same thing that happened to me. So, like, I have business admin, love working with women, have my wife that I pitch stuff to.
00:33:41
Speaker
But in her best friend, I'm able to sit down and go through certain things that I do. Do amazing things. I feel like sometimes, sometimes do horribles. But they're able to be like, no, you did good, but this is what you can do. you know When it came to my IG page, they said, hey, you do interviews, you do great interviews, but we never see these people we just see you.
00:34:00
Speaker
Let's change it. So that's why I put out the search photos. Or I asked people for, hey, what would you like me to post? you know Or when it comes to the verbiage, I now use AI, but I have made AI Sound like me.
00:34:13
Speaker
It doesn't sound like a oh, it's just thrown together. You know, um another thing that I have learned to do is, you know, and asking people for help no matter who they are.
00:34:24
Speaker
I'm a ass. I mean, if I had you on my show, I must believe in So I'm going say something, you know, and I think that I. I reach out to them and sometimes it go good. Sometimes it go left. But the biggest thing is you know, reaching out to your peers too.
00:34:38
Speaker
Like Dan once said, I reach out to him for stuff. I think it's surprising if I do ask, Hey man, you did this dope. I like how he just did his intro. It's amazing. It's like great intro. I can't wait to keep seeing this because you did great at this.
00:34:51
Speaker
Yeah. And you do great interviews. so So I can learn. We learn from the people around us. And there's no coincidence that all of us stay in communication with each other. So I bite off that first. And then also when other people reach out, I try to see what they, Hey, you think you can do this? Or, Hey, I see you bring athletes on. You ever thought about doing this?
00:35:11
Speaker
I just try to one up myself, Victoria, to be honest. Like I just told him, I'm over here writing an article about one of my favorite football players because he happened to retire. You know, got his jersey up here and everything. So I'm like, let me write this, you know, and let me see what lane it is. So always trying to one up myself. And that way other people will reach out. Like, dang, I saw.
00:35:31
Speaker
Oh, man, but you could do it this way. I ain't worried about criticism at 30. Not worried about it no more. I'm like, hey, you give it to me, cool. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, I just turned 28 yesterday and ah that's that's the name of the game as podcasters is being curious and asking for help.
00:35:51
Speaker
And that's one thing that I want to keep embracing on my journey is being vulnerable and asking people for help, asking people if they want to be on my show without the whole like, oh, what they like that's such a block and it's it's not helpful in this space.
00:36:08
Speaker
So yeah, thank you for sharing that because I need to keep hearing it and I need to keep doing it And I feel like it's only going to make me stronger doing this. So it's necessary. I will also add to something I noticed the other day.
00:36:21
Speaker
oh For one, some people are not meant for you to help get help from. It's just something I had to realize I wrapped my mind around. And also some people would like to act as if they want to help us, you know, help people that's a smaller brand.
00:36:37
Speaker
so So to that point, how do you have discernment, though, for who you need to be, who to seek wisdom from yeah and when to, you know, use your intuition?
00:36:50
Speaker
It's always shown. going to tell you, people are always going to show their hand. Need it be that person you've known all your life. Need it be somebody that you look up to. you know like People like to say, don't meet your heroes, but I have meet several.
00:37:04
Speaker
But I don't look at people

Discernment and Collaboration

00:37:05
Speaker
as they God. It's only one God. That's right. I look at you as a human. And the multiple times that you keep showing me, You might fool me twice, but at 30 times you ain't.
00:37:15
Speaker
and That's what happens a lot of times. um la Okay. I ain't gonna get a bite from you. are You only help that type of people. Cool. I take a back off approach. That don't mean ain't gonna support you, but that mean I'm just gonna step back because I don't support my stuff. So a lot of times I'll take a step back from, Hey, okay. That ain't person, you know, and that has happened with a lot of people that you would never respect. It's like, man, thought we were good. You know, especially even people from back home that I'd be like, man, don't,
00:37:42
Speaker
I thought we had something good because I want to bring them on a show or something and stuff go left and it's like, you know what? It's okay.
00:37:51
Speaker
So yeah, that's the dirty part of stuff that nobody ever get to talk about. All things work together. Like you keep trying or you'll be around. Just like he said, ain't no coincidence. We are in touch. It ain't no coincidence that we got the relationship and the bond that we form is going to work out. Or you will see when you try something to stop to where it ain't going work to where you know you ain't going to keep pressing because this ain't flowing. This ain't this ain't happening. Or God might even speak to you at that moment or or second a time.
00:38:20
Speaker
ah you ah You will be able to know. Yeah, I think that's good. That's good advice for a new podcast or two, which is. It's another question in itself, but if a new if a new podcaster is listening to this and is feeling overwhelmed, and what would you tell them? Keep going. Keep going.
00:38:40
Speaker
Keep going and take a step back. you know See why you doing it. Because that why gonna keep the why don't yeah you it. Why you think I asked what's the effect of why you do what you do?
00:38:51
Speaker
There's a reason for why every person does what they do. don't care how they try to tell you that they don't. Because if you don't got to lie, it's just... At some point, I can get to this.
00:39:02
Speaker
I can put out my last episode in September, right? And I can say, well, it was a good run. It was great. But until God tells me, hey, we're going to move on to something else, then that's when I'm going to do it versus, oh, I didn't get this guest. I didn't get this. This not going right.
00:39:19
Speaker
No, I'm supposed to be doing this. I think that the best thing I can do is do what I'm doing now. You know? Pull in the C-A-Y, and I say that for a new podcaster.
00:39:31
Speaker
Get a plan out that you It ain't got to be perfect plan. It can be three things. I want to accomplish this, this, and this. Why you want to accomplish? Because of this. And the more you keep doing it, I'll tell you how start off each season.
00:39:44
Speaker
People say, man, you put out this many episodes, how you did this? And I just say, hey, I just like to do it. so It's so much so that people going to start reaching out to you. It's going to blow your mind. I promise you. But guess what?
00:39:55
Speaker
If you don't keep one going, like my brother just said, you'll never get to see it. So keep going.
00:40:02
Speaker
Beautiful, beautiful. And the last question I have for for both of you all is, how has podcasting changed your relationship with your voice, with your own voice and your story?
00:40:15
Speaker
Making sure I get out the message more clear, making sure that... I'm saying the right things. I'm asking the right questions. And I'm even repeating certain things I hear that maybe you have said, maybe Jeremy has said, if it's good and it resonates to me I'm re-saying it so I can know that I'm speaking life into people. I'm speaking um you know peace into what I'm speaking to them is something that's going to help them grow.
00:40:43
Speaker
you know Like you said about that tree, I want to have good fruit whenever somebody can pull from me or I need to give them to, I want to have good fruit. Yes, sir. I love that. I love that.
00:40:54
Speaker
I love that, man. I say also on the same thing, man. I love to help people. That's my first thing. I would say that when it comes to any person, any person that came on the show or anybody in general,
00:41:07
Speaker
Biggest thing I always remember is this ah it ain't about me. It's about helping other people and telling their stories. And that's what keeps me going when I don't want to do it. And I really don't have that many times of when I don't want to do it. Just some may have happened or transpired. So always having the back of your mind that, hey, let's do this.
00:41:27
Speaker
And, you know, I'm out here doing my podcast. OK, we're going to keep it going. You know, it is bigger than you. Yeah. Beautiful, beautiful.
00:41:38
Speaker
Thank you both for joining me so much. I don't have an ending tagline. It used to be, don't forget to be a nice person. You feel me? But no, we're going to scratch that. I might change it.
00:41:50
Speaker
Who knows? But what I do want to do is for those that are listening or watching this podcast, you stumbled upon this the show is to please fill out the community voices form. and it'll be linked somewhere in my description. wanna hear your stories and I wanna hear your messy journey behind your pursuit of excellence.
00:42:08
Speaker
So please fill that out and you might be

Closing and Listener Invitation

00:42:11
Speaker
on a future episode. and So thank you so much, Jeremy and Dan Juan for joining me on Feel Your Feelings. Hope you guys have a wonderful day. Take care. I love you, man. Love you. Keep doing. Keep doing. Thank you. Love you guys too. Keep me in good.
00:42:24
Speaker
Thank you.
00:42:31
Speaker
been very like productivity driven very very much looking up to you know what we see on LinkedIn and and even like seeing that it it makes me feel like I don't have it together like I need to get my shit together but
