Introduction to Guest Isaiah Lee

00:00:06
Speaker
Hello, welcome or welcome back to the Feel Your Feelings podcast.
00:00:10
Speaker
I'm your host, Victoria Makinjewola.
00:00:12
Speaker
And today I am joined by a special guest.
00:00:15
Speaker
His name is Isaiah Lee.
00:00:16
Speaker
What's going on?
00:00:18
Speaker
What's going on, Isaiah?
00:00:19
Speaker
It's good to have you here.
00:00:21
Speaker
So Isaiah is someone I follow on social media.
00:00:24
Speaker
We've been following each other for a hot minute.
00:00:28
Speaker
He does music.
00:00:29
Speaker
His Instagram bio literally says he's a multidisciplinary visionary.
00:00:33
Speaker
talent and faith disruptor.
00:00:36
Speaker
He also has his own clothing company slash movement called Motivated by Losses.

Inspiration Behind 'Motivated by Losses'

00:00:42
Speaker
So first and foremost, like I want to know more about that.
00:00:47
Speaker
But before we get into that, how are you feeling?
00:00:50
Speaker
Good, good.
00:00:51
Speaker
Mentally, I'm getting there, but I'm good.
00:00:55
Speaker
I feel that.
00:00:56
Speaker
I feel that.
00:00:57
Speaker
Just over my head.
00:00:59
Speaker
Yeah, I'm good too.
00:01:01
Speaker
I'm good too.
00:01:02
Speaker
I'm like,
00:01:03
Speaker
It's been a day.
00:01:04
Speaker
It's been a busy day, but that's kind of, you know, we're going into a new season.
00:01:08
Speaker
So, you know, you're in Delaware, I'm in Texas, so it's getting cooler now in the South.
00:01:14
Speaker
So it's changing like weather wise, but also like in my own life.
00:01:19
Speaker
So, yeah.
00:01:21
Speaker
But which leads me to the question of your clothing line, motivated by losses.
00:01:26
Speaker
Like, how did you come up with that name and what all what's behind your brand?
00:01:33
Speaker
Actually, before the pandemic, I came up.
00:01:36
Speaker
Well, I didn't say I came up.
00:01:37
Speaker
I was sitting on my, I literally was sitting on my bed.
00:01:40
Speaker
Yeah.
00:01:40
Speaker
And God just put that in my head.
00:01:42
Speaker
Like, I literally heard him say it.
00:01:43
Speaker
I'm like, all right, cool.
00:01:44
Speaker
I don't know what it is.
00:01:45
Speaker
But I ended up making it into something.
00:01:48
Speaker
I just wrote it down.
00:01:50
Speaker
And long story short, lo and behold, three years later, you got a business license.
00:01:54
Speaker
Now you got the clothing.
00:01:55
Speaker
Now you got the company.
00:01:55
Speaker
But me personally, it's just things I've been through, like with losses with like women, with
00:02:00
Speaker
friends with me getting close to Christ, like, losing certain things, and it's like, dang, and me stressing, like, when do I get these things back?
00:02:07
Speaker
But I got to get motivated to stay with Christ because I can get those back, but they got to be better than what they were.
00:02:13
Speaker
So it's kind of like overcoming the past type of thing.
00:02:17
Speaker
And I follow your clothing brand on social media on top of like your personal

Isaiah's Multifaceted Ventures

00:02:22
Speaker
Instagram.
00:02:22
Speaker
So I've seen you do music.
00:02:25
Speaker
You have a book, if I'm not mistaken.
00:02:28
Speaker
You're an author.
00:02:29
Speaker
Like, tell me about some of these endeavors that you're doing because you're right now like.
00:02:34
Speaker
like in a lot of different avenues kind of.
00:02:38
Speaker
That's kind of something that I'm trying to do is be more multifaceted.
00:02:42
Speaker
So like how did you get into these different lanes?
00:02:47
Speaker
Music.
00:02:47
Speaker
So I actually play drums.
00:02:49
Speaker
I've been playing since I was two.
00:02:51
Speaker
So that's playing in the church.
00:02:52
Speaker
So that's self-explanatory.
00:02:55
Speaker
rap my older brother he um he was on power 99 which is a radio station in philadelphia and my mom was happy he was on there so maybe i could do it and i ended up doing it not getting on there but i ended up rapping and building relationships so i've been doing a lot of things from there yeah um what were some of your biggest influences uh musically music wise nipsey rest in peace okay yeah rest in peace yeah any reason i got into the independent space so yeah
00:03:25
Speaker
Wow, that's a good question.
00:03:26
Speaker
That is you.
00:03:28
Speaker
I really honestly nipped.
00:03:31
Speaker
I used to listen to Jay, but since I got closer to Christ, I'm not really checking for Jay.
00:03:35
Speaker
You know you know.
00:03:36
Speaker
If you don't, we can talk about that.
00:03:37
Speaker
Right, right.
00:03:38
Speaker
No, I definitely nipped for sure, so definitely nipped.
00:03:41
Speaker
And then as far as the books, I've always wanted to write books, but I was just like, I don't know.
00:03:48
Speaker
One day I just wrote something and it came out dope and I just sold it to my friends.
00:03:52
Speaker
But now I'm actually, you're the first person to know this.
00:03:54
Speaker
I'm actually working on another one now, but it's a quotable book.
00:03:57
Speaker
Congratulations.
00:03:58
Speaker
Yep.
00:03:58
Speaker
So it's getting done now.
00:04:01
Speaker
The cover's actually getting done now as we speak.
00:04:04
Speaker
The book hopefully will be done.
00:04:06
Speaker
Sometime in November, I want to do a little book signing out here in Delaware.

Journey into Teaching and Youth Empowerment

00:04:10
Speaker
Yeah.
00:04:11
Speaker
And it's kind of like, I'm going to do it for free.
00:04:13
Speaker
And then obviously, you purchase the book, but you're getting there for free.
00:04:17
Speaker
So that's a whole thing there.
00:04:21
Speaker
That's really cool.
00:04:22
Speaker
That's really cool.
00:04:23
Speaker
I love that.
00:04:23
Speaker
I'm still looking at your social media page, right?
00:04:26
Speaker
So you told me that you're an author.
00:04:28
Speaker
You're a teacher as well.
00:04:29
Speaker
So what made you want to give back to the youth or to the young?
00:04:35
Speaker
the younger generation, like I'm, I'm a Gen Z, right?
00:04:38
Speaker
So this podcast is really tailored to, to be about, you know, Gen Z and mental health.
00:04:43
Speaker
But my first question for you is like, why, why the younger generation and what, what do you think like they need the most?
00:04:52
Speaker
Um, so for me being a teacher, I actually did.
00:04:56
Speaker
So the way I became a teacher actually through some people that I personally know in my area.
00:05:00
Speaker
And I know I, once I moved to Delaware, when I was 12, I just grew up with these people and they ended up having a, uh, uh,
00:05:08
Speaker
I guess you can say like a scholastic staffing agency.
00:05:12
Speaker
And it was part of this, can be part of this.
00:05:14
Speaker
So I was part of it and they go into different schools and they, uh, they teach.
00:05:19
Speaker
But before that, I was just going to different schools and speaking to kids.
00:05:22
Speaker
And I went to a team warehouse and I was speaking to those kids there and they was liking me.
00:05:27
Speaker
They requested me to come to their school.
00:05:28
Speaker
I came and you know that.
00:05:30
Speaker
So yeah,
00:05:32
Speaker
Hey, just be a teacher.
00:05:33
Speaker
I was like, all right, cool.
00:05:34
Speaker
So I go to different schools and teach.
00:05:35
Speaker
Now, as far as Gen Z, I got a lot of homies like that at the jobs, like the school, like these are my young guys.
00:05:43
Speaker
And from what they tell me, they tell me a lot of personal things.
00:05:47
Speaker
And I look at them like, they're not in the streets, but they just do things that unfortunately young kids do at their age.
00:05:56
Speaker
So I look at them like, okay, look, I'm not about to shove this.
00:05:59
Speaker
Don't do this.
00:06:00
Speaker
Don't do this.
00:06:01
Speaker
I'm not going to shove that.
00:06:02
Speaker
throat.
00:06:02
Speaker
I'm going to learn what you do, why you do it, what's the root cause of it, how can we prevent it from the next time.
00:06:08
Speaker
And if you do get involved in this situation, how can you be the leader and stand up and say, yo, I can't do this.
00:06:13
Speaker
I got this going on right here.
00:06:15
Speaker
You're actually the first person to know this also.
00:06:21
Speaker
So the company motivated by losses, obviously we're doing a, I don't know how to word it, but it's like an entrepreneurship type of kit where we end up doing is we're going to get, hopefully next year, next year we'll probably start it, but we're going to get a waters.
00:06:37
Speaker
I have personal, I'm working on some chips and stuff.
00:06:40
Speaker
So we got waters, chips, and maybe some t-shirts.
00:06:44
Speaker
And what we're doing is I'm going to give these kids a shot.
00:06:47
Speaker
I'm going to go, look,
00:06:49
Speaker
You pay, let's just say, $30 for a kit.
00:06:54
Speaker
Right.
00:06:54
Speaker
And you can sell the items for however much you want.
00:06:58
Speaker
You ain't got to give me no money back.
00:06:59
Speaker
You can just sell them.
00:07:00
Speaker
Now you're building your entrepreneurship.
00:07:02
Speaker
And you come back, I want some more.
00:07:04
Speaker
Now you're starting to build this entrepreneurship.
00:07:06
Speaker
So that's like a little kit, I guess, we're trying to put together.
00:07:10
Speaker
Yeah.

Advice for Young Entrepreneurs

00:07:11
Speaker
For sure.
00:07:11
Speaker
Like you're, you're building up your brand.
00:07:14
Speaker
Like I'm trying to build up my own little brand with this podcast with, as told by Victoria, I created a blog before the podcast to get better at writing and my blog.
00:07:24
Speaker
Unfortunately, I lost all the content on there because I didn't back up my website, the data.
00:07:29
Speaker
So I had to like rebuild it from scratch.
00:07:32
Speaker
But what, what would you, what advice would you have for someone, a young person that wants to get into entrepreneurship or build their own brand?
00:07:43
Speaker
purpose over profit.
00:07:46
Speaker
Don't get in it for the money because when you get in for the money, that's all you think about and you're going to burn out quick.
00:07:51
Speaker
So I had to learn that.
00:07:52
Speaker
The crazy part is I'm 33, so I had to learn that.
00:07:54
Speaker
I literally learned that at probably like 26, 27.
00:07:56
Speaker
Yeah, I'm 26.
00:07:59
Speaker
Yeah.
00:08:22
Speaker
Why are you doing this?
00:08:22
Speaker
What is your purpose in this?
00:08:24
Speaker
Well, my purpose is to build up my community or help my family out or, you know, support.
00:08:31
Speaker
Let's just say, you know, me and my girlfriend's relationship.
00:08:33
Speaker
Like we're trying to build a company.
00:08:35
Speaker
She needs to see somebody do something.
00:08:36
Speaker
Okay, cool.
00:08:37
Speaker
But we can build it this way instead of going this way.
00:08:40
Speaker
This way is legal and you're not going to go to jail.
00:08:42
Speaker
You're not going to get no beef.
00:08:43
Speaker
You're not going, you know, stuff like that.
00:08:45
Speaker
So that's really what I would say.
00:08:49
Speaker
That's real.
00:08:50
Speaker
That's that's real.
00:08:51
Speaker
It applies to really anything that we do, like even if you're an athlete, like because, you know, some people, if you're really good at one thing, you put you try to put like your talent above like your purpose.
00:09:02
Speaker
And that doesn't always work sometimes.
00:09:05
Speaker
because your talent can only lead you so far.
00:09:07
Speaker
And then the rest is like, well, what's my purpose?
00:09:09
Speaker
Like there has to be something bigger than XYZ basketball, you know, whatever you're doing.
00:09:16
Speaker
So, so yeah, that's really important to keep in mind.
00:09:19
Speaker
And like speaking of faith, I'm also like a person of faith and everything.

Spiritual Journey and Faith

00:09:24
Speaker
I noticed that you like post a lot of like motivational quotes and talking about God and like your spiritual journey.
00:09:30
Speaker
Like, can you talk more about that?
00:09:32
Speaker
Like, how do you involve your, your faith
00:09:35
Speaker
into your craft, being that you're an artist.
00:09:39
Speaker
So crazy part is I, so I followed God a long time, but I never like submitted to him.
00:09:47
Speaker
You could follow somebody, but you're not submitting to the leadership of what they got going on.
00:09:53
Speaker
That's right.
00:09:53
Speaker
So I'm like, dang, okay, boom.
00:09:55
Speaker
Then recently I went through a situation
00:09:57
Speaker
And it's like, dang, God, this hit me a little bit different because this is a situation that I never thought I would lose.
00:10:03
Speaker
And I don't feel comfortable losing it because we both jumped into this faith thing together.
00:10:09
Speaker
And it's like, dang, okay, so what do I do now, God?
00:10:12
Speaker
God is like, all right, well, look, you've been doing all of this.
00:10:13
Speaker
It's just me and you now.
00:10:15
Speaker
So you got to figure this out.
00:10:16
Speaker
What you going to do to me and let me do it?
00:10:19
Speaker
I'm learning to let go, not of the situation, but just let God do what he do.
00:10:22
Speaker
That's the hardest thing.
00:10:23
Speaker
America.
00:10:24
Speaker
Being still.
00:10:24
Speaker
Being still.
00:10:26
Speaker
That's the hardest thing because you want something.
00:10:28
Speaker
You're looking at it like, nah, this is it.
00:10:30
Speaker
You saw me the vision.
00:10:31
Speaker
You're like, I get you, but I got to break you down to get you better because if I had to gave it to you when I gave it to you, it's already jacked up.
00:10:38
Speaker
So now I got to fix it.
00:10:40
Speaker
Then I got to deal with this consequence.
00:10:42
Speaker
You know what I'm saying?
00:10:43
Speaker
So that's really where I'm learning.
00:10:45
Speaker
And that's where my faith comes in with a lot.
00:10:47
Speaker
It's like, okay.
00:10:48
Speaker
I got to deal with this consequence.
00:10:49
Speaker
So now let me just do something else, such as the music, the business, stuff that I've been doing.
00:10:55
Speaker
But it just feels better now that I'm like, okay, God got this.
00:10:58
Speaker
You know?
00:10:59
Speaker
Yeah.
00:11:00
Speaker
And I've learned now that you can literally just live, but just give God the glory in the midst of what you're doing.
00:11:06
Speaker
Once I learned that, I'm like, oh, so I can still do what I'm doing and not be
00:11:11
Speaker
Because at the end of the day, the goal is to serve the Lord Jesus Christ, which is what he is to me.
00:11:17
Speaker
But the goal overall is to get to the kingdom of heaven and have eternal life, et cetera.
00:11:21
Speaker
Because the reality is, you can say you believe in God, faith, Christian, and all that, but if you ain't really submitting to what he's saying, then you kind of got an issue there.
00:11:30
Speaker
Because this is not the end of... And people say this, oh, the earth is hell.
00:11:35
Speaker
Probably to you, because you don't know what really is going on, but...
00:11:39
Speaker
It ain't, it ain't, this ain't nothing compared to them telling you.
00:11:42
Speaker
That's real.
00:11:43
Speaker
That's real.
00:11:44
Speaker
And one thing that's been on my heart, like even before, like jumping on this episode with you was that like, what's for you won't pass you.
00:11:53
Speaker
Like what's for me is not going to pass me.
00:11:56
Speaker
Like, and that's something that I've had to, I'm still trying to get comfortable with because I think I've been very uncomfortable with like, I have to chase, like I have to chase for what's mine.
00:12:08
Speaker
Like it's,
00:12:09
Speaker
it doesn't feel like it's going to come with ease.
00:12:11
Speaker
Like, I feel like I have to go towards it because like you said, you just said like, you're learning how to be still and like, just accept like what God has for you.

Podcasting Confidence with Zencastr

00:12:21
Speaker
But it's difficult for me because I also feel on the other side of the coin is that faith without works is dead.
00:12:27
Speaker
So it's like, I can't, I can't just be still right.
00:12:29
Speaker
Like I have to move.
00:12:30
Speaker
I have to like,
00:12:31
Speaker
make some sort of traction, you know, because fire doesn't just spring up.
00:12:36
Speaker
You have to like, you got to like have some friction going, right?
00:12:40
Speaker
So I'm just kind of in that season where I'm like, do I be still or do I like just go ham right now and then see what comes out of it?
00:12:48
Speaker
I feel like with that, even with me personally, I feel like I'm learning that the situation I'm in is with another individual.
00:12:56
Speaker
So I'm like, dang, this is, you know, whatever.
00:12:58
Speaker
But
00:12:59
Speaker
I'm learning that God is like, okay, well, if you want this individual, this individual has been through a lot.
00:13:05
Speaker
You've been through a lot.
00:13:06
Speaker
I got to break you down.
00:13:08
Speaker
That's the work I got to do in you.
00:13:10
Speaker
Once I figure out, you got to do this work in me so then God could bring this together.
00:13:15
Speaker
My mindset is just like yours sometimes.
00:13:16
Speaker
I always think to myself, God, what if you're doing all this work and this ain't that.
00:13:21
Speaker
You might as well tell me this now so I ain't got a trick.
00:13:25
Speaker
But God is like, no, if I told you this now, then you wouldn't be going through this.
00:13:30
Speaker
I'm like, bro, this is a lot.
00:13:32
Speaker
Yeah.
00:13:33
Speaker
Yeah.
00:13:34
Speaker
I mean, I feel like, and I know, and I was...
00:13:37
Speaker
It's a lot too on my side, but I just feel like sometimes I feel alone or lonely being that I'm the only person in my unique situation experiencing what I'm experiencing and feeling what I'm feeling.
00:13:50
Speaker
However, I know that there's a whole generation of people, a whole world of people that are going through something that I don't even know what they're going through.
00:13:57
Speaker
It could be worse than me, but I'm kind of caught up in my own worldview because I'm the only one going through it.
00:14:04
Speaker
That's right.
00:14:06
Speaker
So partly I feel selfish for that sometimes.
00:14:10
Speaker
Right.
00:14:11
Speaker
Yeah.
00:14:12
Speaker
It's just a reminder that everybody is going through something.
00:14:15
Speaker
Like we're all dealing with something.
00:14:17
Speaker
Yeah.
00:14:18

Music Recommendations and Positivity

00:15:13
Speaker
thing.
00:15:13
Speaker
So you have put me on to like a lot of good music, like with Madison, Madison, Ryan Ward.
00:15:19
Speaker
She's a Christian artist from Oklahoma.
00:15:22
Speaker
Literally.
00:15:22
Speaker
Thank you for like posting on your story.
00:15:26
Speaker
Like her song green.
00:15:27
Speaker
Like I listened to her whole album and I absolutely love it.
00:15:30
Speaker
So do you have any other like artist recommendations?
00:15:33
Speaker
Yeah.
00:15:34
Speaker
No, that's a lot.
00:15:37
Speaker
Madison.
00:15:39
Speaker
Yeah, Madison is definitely... Crazy part is... I'm going to tell you, I find all these people.
00:15:42
Speaker
I was going to TikTok.
00:15:44
Speaker
Really?
00:15:45
Speaker
I literally just type in Christian R&B artist.
00:15:49
Speaker
And...
00:15:51
Speaker
There's another guy called Sire, S-I-R-E.
00:15:54
Speaker
He's Marcus Brown, don't he?
00:15:56
Speaker
Yes, from New Zealand or Australia.
00:15:59
Speaker
He's fire.
00:16:00
Speaker
And I'm actually trying to get him on my podcast.
00:16:02
Speaker
Well, I want to... I'm telling you this first, but I want to get him on my podcast.
00:16:06
Speaker
I'm...
00:16:07
Speaker
But yeah, I would love to have him on because I listen to his music every single day and it has uplifted me, uplifted my spirit and carried me through certain interactions and things like that.
00:16:23
Speaker
Nah, him, he's dope.
00:16:25
Speaker
Him, Madison, who else is dope?
00:16:28
Speaker
This guy named Scooty Wap.
00:16:31
Speaker
He's dope.
00:16:32
Speaker
Obviously Lecrae because I grew up on him.
00:16:34
Speaker
Oh yeah, yeah.
00:16:36
Speaker
Um, Hovey.
00:16:40
Speaker
I'm going to put you on.
00:16:41
Speaker
Yeah, just put me on.
00:16:44
Speaker
Slide me some Spotify.
00:16:46
Speaker
I literally sit on TikTok sometimes and I just type in R&B.
00:16:50
Speaker
But the thing is, these artists sound exactly like
00:16:55
Speaker
The people that I used to listen to.
00:16:57
Speaker
Uh-huh.
00:16:58
Speaker
Yeah.
00:16:59
Speaker
Like the mainstream.
00:17:01
Speaker
Yeah.
00:17:02
Speaker
And they sound better.
00:17:02
Speaker
And they're not giving you songs that's derailing you towards negative stuff.
00:17:07
Speaker
Right.
00:17:07
Speaker
Right.
00:17:07
Speaker
You know what I'm saying?
00:17:08
Speaker
So that's a big thing.
00:17:10
Speaker
That's awesome.
00:17:11
Speaker
That's awesome.
00:17:12
Speaker
So I'm curious to know what, in this season that you're currently in, what are some of your goals, I guess, moving forward for...
00:17:21
Speaker
the rest of 2023.
00:17:22
Speaker
First of all, I even ask you how your year has been.
00:17:25
Speaker
How has your year been so far?
00:17:27
Speaker
How are you trying to close out this year as we go into next year?
00:17:31
Speaker
My year has been just like everybody else's year.
00:17:34
Speaker
What do you mean?
00:17:37
Speaker
Listen, ups and downs, we confused.
00:17:40
Speaker
This thing is everything.
00:17:42
Speaker
But to close it out, I'm just trying to get closer to Christ and do what he want me to do.
00:17:44
Speaker
The crazy part is that I've realized that
00:17:48
Speaker
Every day we wake up in the morning, maybe you can attest to this too, but I feel like every day we wake up, I feel like we're doing the same thing.
00:17:55
Speaker
Like not meaning directly, but we wake up, we're doing the same thing we did last week, the same thing we did yesterday.
00:18:01
Speaker
But different issues arise, but it's the same.
00:18:04
Speaker
It's different clothes, different hairstyle, but the days, it's the same sometimes.
00:18:09
Speaker
It has a repetitive vibe to it.
00:18:12
Speaker
I feel that.
00:18:13
Speaker
Not for sure.
00:18:13
Speaker
Then I get, to me personally, I'm like, yo, God, there's got to be more.
00:18:17
Speaker
More.
00:18:18
Speaker
Yeah.

Life Challenges and Personal Growth in 2023

00:18:20
Speaker
More work yesterday.
00:18:21
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:18:22
Speaker
It's like, you know, something could happen to you last week.
00:18:25
Speaker
You think about it for a whole week.
00:18:27
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:18:28
Speaker
And the next day you wake up, you're like, okay, God, I'm over it.
00:18:31
Speaker
30 seconds later.
00:18:32
Speaker
I'm not over it.
00:18:34
Speaker
It's over it.
00:18:35
Speaker
Your brain is just like, dang, maybe I ain't.
00:18:37
Speaker
And you wake up and you're like, okay, God.
00:18:39
Speaker
Like how you said earlier where it's like, I got to chase.
00:18:41
Speaker
I got to chase.
00:18:42
Speaker
I wake up.
00:18:43
Speaker
Let me check this.
00:18:44
Speaker
Did they do this?
00:18:45
Speaker
Did they do that?
00:18:46
Speaker
Yeah.
00:18:47
Speaker
Reality, when you're waiting on God, it's like, okay.
00:18:49
Speaker
So what do I do?
00:18:51
Speaker
Yeah.
00:18:51
Speaker
So.
00:18:53
Speaker
And I think one thing is that a lot of people, and you could probably attest to this, a lot of people are in routines, for example.
00:19:02
Speaker
So like, let's say you and a friend, y'all talk every day.
00:19:05
Speaker
Then maybe a week, y'all don't talk.
00:19:07
Speaker
Then y'all don't talk for like a month.
00:19:09
Speaker
And if y'all was feeling weird, it's like, okay, this doesn't feel right.
00:19:13
Speaker
And they just go MIA.
00:19:14
Speaker
You're like, okay, this is weird.
00:19:16
Speaker
And I feel like that's, it's weird because it's like,
00:19:20
Speaker
I feel like people know that they're in a routine, but we're living in a world where it's like, I can break the routine anytime I want without having to know other people's schedules.
00:19:31
Speaker
Yeah.
00:19:32
Speaker
It's jacked up a bit.
00:19:34
Speaker
Yeah.
00:19:34
Speaker
Yeah.
00:19:35
Speaker
It's a tricky time.
00:19:36
Speaker
It's a tricky time.
00:19:38
Speaker
I would say my 2023, wow, it's been all over the place.
00:19:48
Speaker
over the place but yet i feel like i've kind of been on a steady line because it's like i'm still here yeah it's like i started here at the beginning of this year like i'm still at home transparency i live at home with my parents my sister so you know i in january i would have been oh i'm gonna have my own apartment i'm gonna have my own car and
00:20:10
Speaker
I'm still here.
00:20:11
Speaker
And I'm like, I'm not mad at myself for that.
00:20:13
Speaker
Like I'm not beating myself up, but I do have my moments where I'm like, I could be a little farther along than I'm at now.
00:20:21
Speaker
But here's a question for you.
00:20:23
Speaker
You saying, not saying you're wrong, but you saying that you could be farther along, but would you be ready for it?
00:20:31
Speaker
You see?
00:20:32
Speaker
I don't know.
00:20:34
Speaker
I mean, yeah, I don't know.
00:20:36
Speaker
I don't know.
00:20:37
Speaker
I feel like in my mind and our mind can tell us or make us think that we should be farther along than we need to be.
00:20:45
Speaker
But our reality is like we have our reality for a reason.
00:20:48
Speaker
And it's like, wait, maybe I should pull back.
00:20:50
Speaker
Like maybe I'm not ready for all that yet because I'm ready for the responsibilities that come with that.
00:20:56
Speaker
Can I handle it?
00:20:59
Speaker
Like, it's tough because it looks good mentally, but then we actually sit down and be like, wait, I got to take care of this, this.
00:21:08
Speaker
Yeah, yeah.
00:21:09
Speaker
Light bill is, you know, $100.
00:21:11
Speaker
No bills.
00:21:12
Speaker
That's a full...
00:21:15
Speaker
You're like, oh, I got to make more money.
00:21:17
Speaker
Yeah, that's the whole thing.
00:21:19
Speaker
That's the whole conversation.

Complexity of Mental Health and Emotions

00:21:23
Speaker
Speaking of mental health, tomorrow is actually World Mental Health Day, October 10th.
00:21:28
Speaker
So, yeah.
00:21:31
Speaker
I do believe you, but who be making these days up?
00:21:34
Speaker
I know.
00:21:35
Speaker
I know.
00:21:37
Speaker
I told my mom that and she was like,
00:21:39
Speaker
Every day is a mental health day.
00:21:41
Speaker
Like, we all have mental health.
00:21:43
Speaker
So, like, what does mental health mean to you?
00:21:48
Speaker
Like, how do you prioritize?
00:21:50
Speaker
Last week was National Girlfriend Day.
00:21:52
Speaker
So, I'm like, what is that?
00:21:53
Speaker
Yeah, I saw it.
00:21:54
Speaker
Yeah, it was National Boyfriend Day.
00:21:55
Speaker
Yeah, Boyfriend Day.
00:21:57
Speaker
Yeah.
00:21:57
Speaker
Let me see.
00:21:59
Speaker
Mental health.
00:22:01
Speaker
That's a tough question because.
00:22:03
Speaker
Yeah.
00:22:04
Speaker
And not saying that's a bad question from you, but it's a tough question because everybody has their own idea of what it is or people just be making it up.
00:22:14
Speaker
I got mental health issues.
00:22:16
Speaker
People that are depressed, suicide, almost on a verge of dying, be worried about mental health.
00:22:24
Speaker
But I get it.
00:22:25
Speaker
But for me, mental health is really that, really finding your...
00:22:32
Speaker
It goes back to faith.
00:22:33
Speaker
It's like finding your faith.
00:22:34
Speaker
And I feel like a lot of people don't know what that is.
00:22:37
Speaker
That's real.
00:22:38
Speaker
My mom was like, my mom says something to the terms of like, get right with Jesus or something.
00:22:43
Speaker
That's mental health.
00:22:45
Speaker
And like, for me, it's even hard to even answer that or ask people that question too.
00:22:50
Speaker
Because when I first started this podcast, I was like, well, I want this to be mental health based.
00:22:54
Speaker
I didn't really understand what that meant at the time.
00:22:56
Speaker
If I'm being honest with you, I knew it was like a word going around.
00:22:59
Speaker
But my initial purpose was, I just want to talk to people and like hear what's on their mind.
00:23:05
Speaker
that's that's what this is all about that's what feeling your feelings means to me is to like us let out have like a a moment where we just like feel our feelings together whatever is in your mind you can take it out here and that's you know i feel like that's that's mental health right there because you are expressing your emotions in a healthy manner you're not going somewhere doing something crazy or
00:23:30
Speaker
something detrimental to your own physical health.
00:23:33
Speaker
But there are, I give credit to other platforms that are doing things better because I kind of put pressure on myself to be just like in that avenue, like the psychological therapeutic type thing.
00:23:47
Speaker
And I'm like, that's not really for me.
00:23:49
Speaker
Like, it's not really for me.
00:23:51
Speaker
I just want to talk to people, people that I find interesting.
00:23:54
Speaker
Cause the reality is with mental health is,
00:23:57
Speaker
It's a popular word.
00:23:59
Speaker
It is.
00:23:59
Speaker
Trendy.
00:23:59
Speaker
It's trendy.
00:24:00
Speaker
And a lot of people don't know what it really means.
00:24:02
Speaker
Exactly.
00:24:03
Speaker
When people say, oh, my boyfriend was a narcissist or this person's a narcissist, you don't know really what that means.
00:24:09
Speaker
Right.
00:24:09
Speaker
When people say, be humble, be humble.
00:24:11
Speaker
If you look at the definition in the Bible, it's totally different from what the world is saying.
00:24:16
Speaker
Or if you look at the actual word, humble, it's not what you think it is.
00:24:19
Speaker
So like you said, I feel like people throw that word around because it sounds good.
00:24:24
Speaker
and oh, I'm going through something today.
00:24:26
Speaker
I got mental health.
00:24:27
Speaker
I need to take a mental health day.
00:24:28
Speaker
Bro, just say you don't want to go to work.
00:24:29
Speaker
You don't want to go to work, my boy.
00:24:33
Speaker
All this action issue talking about, you know, because the reality is mental, but mental health is true.
00:24:39
Speaker
Like depression, me personally, depression is a feeling.
00:24:44
Speaker
It does affect your mental, but it's a feeling.
00:24:47
Speaker
It might last a long time, but you'll get over it eventually.
00:24:51
Speaker
Don't, then that's tough because a lot of people don't get over depression.
00:24:54
Speaker
Yeah.
00:24:55
Speaker
I think we all have to find our own personal definition.
00:24:58
Speaker
There's no one right definition of it.
00:25:00
Speaker
If that's one thing that I've learned from doing this since like 2020, relatively new to all like learning about it, is that everybody has a unique definition of mental health and there's no right or wrong answer.
00:25:13
Speaker
No one person can say, this is what mental health is.
00:25:16
Speaker
It's like, but you're you, we are not the same.
00:25:20
Speaker
We haven't walked in the same shoes.
00:25:21
Speaker
So mental health wouldn't be the same for me.
00:25:27
Speaker
People argue that a lot.
00:25:29
Speaker
I was talking to him the other day and we were just arguing about where we come from with the police and the shootings and all that.
00:25:35
Speaker
And his thing was like, man, the cops, they're trying to kill us and take us down because of government, this and this.
00:25:42
Speaker
Where I'm from, because he's from a suburb and I'm from PA, but it's kind of like hood, but still suburb.
00:25:47
Speaker
Where I'm from,
00:25:49
Speaker
police, we shoot each other every day.
00:25:51
Speaker
Like, it's nothing new to us.
00:25:53
Speaker
He's like, yeah, but it's all a racist joke.
00:25:55
Speaker
I'm like, bro.
00:25:57
Speaker
But then again, that, not argument, but that disagreement comes from, like you said, where are we from?
00:26:02
Speaker
Like you said, mental health, you might be, you know, you sitting in your room all day eating food, you know, going through something.
00:26:08
Speaker
You know, it might be depression going on social media and that actually depresses me.
00:26:13
Speaker
Like, you know, so like you said, it's all relative, but I think what people don't understand is that you cannot put
00:26:19
Speaker
As Nipsey said, your expectations are me on me.
00:26:21
Speaker
Like you can't put your lifestyle and your depression on me.
00:26:24
Speaker
So if you tell me depression is me, depression is sitting in your room eating food when you're going through it.
00:26:30
Speaker
No, depression for me is going outside doing X, Y, Z. No, it's not.
00:26:35
Speaker
It's...
00:26:35
Speaker
You know, and that's where the arguments are.
00:26:37
Speaker
The right and wrong.
00:26:39
Speaker
Yeah.
00:26:39
Speaker
Yeah.
00:26:39
Speaker
We definitely live in that world.
00:26:41
Speaker
That's the cancel culture world that we have to live in and we have to navigate, which is like another thing I'm curious to know from you is like when it comes to Gen Z, which is another popular term, like what do you think is like the biggest impact on our mental health?
00:26:57
Speaker
Well, like I said, because I work with students, so that'd be easy.
00:27:01
Speaker
Impact is...
00:27:02
Speaker
Like what messaged y'all head up a little bit, I guess you could say?
00:27:06
Speaker
From your perspective, like what are you observing?
00:27:08
Speaker
Well, I'm observing one, that that social media is nuts.
00:27:11
Speaker
Just to a point where now, I look at it like a community.
00:27:19
Speaker
So when you get on your phone, you're like inside your house.
00:27:25
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:27:26
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:27:26
Speaker
If you get off your phone, you're walking outside and it's real people.
00:27:29
Speaker
So if you're sitting in your house all day and you go outside, you're like, oh, snap, this is a real person.
00:27:33
Speaker
These people are real.
00:27:34
Speaker
Like, I've seen videos where these kids will be arguing with Chris Paul or yelling at LeBron or doing whatever they're doing and, like, not knowing these are really grown men.
00:27:45
Speaker
Yeah.
00:27:46
Speaker
I saw his comment section today and there were some wild comments.
00:27:49
Speaker
And he was just, like, wishing his son a happy birthday.
00:27:52
Speaker
And just the disrespectful comments from that,
00:27:55
Speaker
I'm like, this is ridiculous, guys.
00:27:57
Speaker
Ridiculous.
00:27:59
Speaker
I didn't see the video, but it was like a picture of the bull Kevin Gates and that situation that he had going on with the girl spitting in the mouth.
00:28:04
Speaker
It was nuts.
00:28:05
Speaker
But I seen the picture in my head and everybody was commenting like, man, that's what I like.
00:28:10
Speaker
That's what I like.
00:28:11
Speaker
That's what I like.
00:28:11
Speaker
I'm sitting here like, yo, this is real life.
00:28:14
Speaker
Like, do you not know that this device right here is turning into somebody's home?
00:28:19
Speaker
Like, people live on this.
00:28:20
Speaker
So, like, if I'm videotaping our conversation on my phone, I can post this on Instagram.
00:28:26
Speaker
And somebody could comment, oh, look at her hair.
00:28:29
Speaker
Oh, look at his shirt.
00:28:30
Speaker
I'm like, yo, she's the coolest fan of real life.
00:28:34
Speaker
And people be making their narratives too.
00:28:39
Speaker
And that's something that our generation has to live with is dealing with trolls, dealing with just mean people and bullies and strangers on the internet because you don't know what can come at you.
00:28:52
Speaker
So I feel like we are more
00:28:54
Speaker
adjusted to it in a sense because we've grown up with it and then the next generation, I think Gen Alpha, this is their life.
00:29:02
Speaker
This is their whole life.
00:29:05
Speaker
It's just something that I think for me, I think maybe I've kind of tuned out.
00:29:10
Speaker
I've kind of gotten used to it.
00:29:11
Speaker
If I get a troll comment, it's not going to break my soul because I know I can block.
00:29:17
Speaker
I know I have the tools to delete.
00:29:18
Speaker
I know I have the tools to report.
00:29:21
Speaker
I know I have
00:29:22
Speaker
the Holy Spirit that can come to me, you know?
00:29:25
Speaker
So that's a lot.
00:29:27
Speaker
And I'm still learning how to be unique and not take things so personally.
00:29:34
Speaker
Yeah, nah, for sure.
00:29:35
Speaker
Honestly, I don't even block people because...
00:29:39
Speaker
And this sounds crazy, but I'll probably block them cash app joints because them doings is weird.
00:29:45
Speaker
They are so audacious.
00:29:48
Speaker
Word, big ones for them people.
00:29:50
Speaker
Yeah, seriously.
00:29:51
Speaker
Yo, I'll send 25 to 200.
00:29:52
Speaker
No, I'm not sending you nothing.
00:29:55
Speaker
No.
00:29:55
Speaker
Seriously.
00:29:56
Speaker
Somebody hit me one day on a cash app.
00:29:58
Speaker
They was like, yo, well, I know you rap and I'll give you...
00:30:04
Speaker
$3,000 to perform at a party.
00:30:05
Speaker
Just send me your cash app and your Apple Pay.
00:30:07
Speaker
I was like, nope.
00:30:07
Speaker
As soon as you say cash app and Apple Pay, mm-mm.
00:30:14
Speaker
We got to figure something out with the contract.
00:30:16
Speaker
Yeah, they're doing it with robo calls.
00:30:18
Speaker
They're pretending to be the government to get people to pay student loan money and stuff like that.
00:30:23
Speaker
I got one of those calls one time.
00:30:25
Speaker
They almost got me.
00:30:26
Speaker
They almost got me.
00:30:27
Speaker
And I was like, I think I forgot what I asked, but they hung up really fast.
00:30:31
Speaker
I ain't gonna lie.
00:30:32
Speaker
I remember that.
00:30:33
Speaker
One song called me.
00:30:35
Speaker
They was like, what did they say?
00:30:37
Speaker
They said, it was like, yeah, you need to come to the police station in New York because you're wanted for something.
00:30:45
Speaker
I was like, I went to the episode.
00:30:46
Speaker
I said, yo, what does this mean?
00:30:49
Speaker
Because I wasn't hit to Apple at the time.
00:30:51
Speaker
I'm like, nah, bro.
00:30:53
Speaker
Did you know you could look up somebody's phone number on Google and it can show you where they live?
00:30:59
Speaker
Oh, no, that's wild.
00:31:00
Speaker
Did you know that?
00:31:03
Speaker
I know it now, but I know my address doesn't pop up.
00:31:06
Speaker
So I'm just like, this is wild.
00:31:11
Speaker
You can't just get this number to everybody.
00:31:13
Speaker
I'm not going to lie.
00:31:14
Speaker
I did.
00:31:14
Speaker
I tried it one time.
00:31:14
Speaker
Matter of fact, I tried it with myself because I remember somebody told me.
00:31:18
Speaker
I tried it.
00:31:18
Speaker
My address popped up.
00:31:19
Speaker
I'm like, how do people know that?
00:31:24
Speaker
But you can actually go to those websites, that website, whatever website you went to, and you can call their customer service and be like, hey, take this off.
00:31:33
Speaker
I don't want this listed on your website.
00:31:35
Speaker
There was another website that if you just type in a person's name, it'll show you their records, like public records and all that kind of stuff.
00:31:42
Speaker
And I think...
00:31:43
Speaker
I had emailed the company or was it my profile or my mom?
00:31:46
Speaker
Something.
00:31:47
Speaker
And I emailed them like, take this off.
00:31:49
Speaker
I don't want this to show up on any like listings on Bing, on Google.
00:31:53
Speaker
And they were like, yeah, we'll take it off.
00:31:54
Speaker
We'll take like nothing.
00:31:55
Speaker
No, no or anything.
00:31:58
Speaker
As I get found, stuff happens.
00:32:00
Speaker
Right.
00:32:01
Speaker
So I rebuke all of that on any of us, man.
00:32:07
Speaker
But yeah, so I want to get into a speed round if you are ready.
00:32:12
Speaker
So this is basically a list of questions where you just answer in a little brief one or two word answers, a brief one sentence.
00:32:21
Speaker
Ready to do this, Isaiah?
00:32:21
Speaker
Let's do it.
00:32:23
Speaker
Okay.
00:32:24
Speaker
So what is the last song that you listened to?
00:32:27
Speaker
Ooh.
00:32:28
Speaker
Ooh.
00:32:30
Speaker
That's crazy.
00:32:31
Speaker
I just was listening to the song.
00:32:32
Speaker
I literally just listened to it.
00:32:34
Speaker
I got it.
00:32:34
Speaker
I'm about to pull it up.
00:32:35
Speaker
Last song I listened to was Amen by Noby.
00:32:41
Speaker
By Noby?
00:32:42
Speaker
N-O-B-Y.
00:32:44
Speaker
Okay.
00:32:45
Speaker
Okay.
00:32:46
Speaker
I like to hear to see like, oh, what's next?
00:32:47
Speaker
What should I put on my playlist next?
00:32:49
Speaker
Okay.
00:32:49
Speaker
There we go.
00:32:51
Speaker
Finish this sentence.
00:32:52
Speaker
I truly believe that.
00:32:57
Speaker
I truly believe that everything that I ask God for will happen in his time.
00:33:02
Speaker
Amen.
00:33:03
Speaker
Amen.
00:33:03
Speaker
Yes, sir.
00:33:05
Speaker
My favorite book is?
00:33:08
Speaker
Dang, yo.
00:33:09
Speaker
Because I like to read.
00:33:10
Speaker
Take your time.
00:33:11
Speaker
Take your time.
00:33:17
Speaker
Why do things catch on?
00:33:19
Speaker
Contagious.
00:33:20
Speaker
Why do things catch on by Jonah Berger?
00:33:25
Speaker
Was that a movie?
00:33:27
Speaker
I think it turned to a movie.
00:33:28
Speaker
I know it was a book.
00:33:29
Speaker
I think it was probably just an interview, but I know it might have turned to a movie.
00:33:32
Speaker
Okay.
00:33:35
Speaker
Love that.
00:33:35
Speaker
Love that.
00:33:37
Speaker
I'm reading a book.
00:33:38
Speaker
I just finished reading a book called Be Water, My Friend by Shannon Lee.
00:33:43
Speaker
I actually have it.
00:33:44
Speaker
Let me see it.
00:33:46
Speaker
Shannon Lee, so Bruce Lee's daughter.
00:33:48
Speaker
That's fire.
00:33:48
Speaker
This has blessed my soul.
00:33:51
Speaker
You know how I told you I like sitting outside under the trees by like a duck pond?
00:33:54
Speaker
No, that's fire.
00:33:55
Speaker
It's blessed my soul.
00:33:56
Speaker
Bewarded, my friend.
00:33:59
Speaker
In two words, I would tell my younger self too.
00:34:07
Speaker
Fine God.
00:34:09
Speaker
I definitely would say, yeah, for sure, for sure, for sure.
00:34:13
Speaker
Yes, sir.
00:34:13
Speaker
Amen.
00:34:15
Speaker
And last question for you is right now, I feel.
00:34:17
Speaker
Why are you laughing?
00:34:21
Speaker
I got a million things I can tell you.
00:34:24
Speaker
That's funny.
00:34:27
Speaker
Stressed.
00:34:29
Speaker
That's real.
00:34:32
Speaker
I got some more and I'm just like... That's real.
00:34:35
Speaker
Okay.
00:34:36
Speaker
That's real.
00:34:37
Speaker
But it's good that you acknowledge it because sometimes we try to mask how we really feel.
00:34:42
Speaker
Like, oh, I'm good.
00:34:44
Speaker
And you know you're not.
00:34:46
Speaker
And we have those feelings for a reason.
00:34:48
Speaker
I truly believe that if someone is angry, for example,
00:34:53
Speaker
that's okay to sit with it for a little bit because if you don't, it's gonna come out in other negative ways.
00:34:59
Speaker
So it's like, feel it for a reason, but just don't sit in it too, too long.
00:35:04
Speaker
But thank you so much, Isaiah, for coming on my show, feeling your feelings with me.
00:35:11
Speaker
Where can my listeners find you?
00:35:14
Speaker
Everywhere.
00:35:15
Speaker
At Isaiah Lee Music, I-S-A-I-H-L-E-E-M-U-S-I-C on the social medias.
00:35:24
Speaker
My website, Isaiah Lee Music, which is actually getting done.
00:35:26
Speaker
So by the time, probably October, it'll be done.
00:35:29
Speaker
And that's pretty much it.
00:35:34
Speaker
YouTube, Isaiah Lee Music will come up.
00:35:36
Speaker
I got like four videos.
00:35:37
Speaker
I took most of my videos down and I'm redoing everything.
00:35:40
Speaker
Okay.
00:35:40
Speaker
Okay.
00:35:41
Speaker
Yeah.
00:35:43
Speaker
What about your clothing line?
00:35:44
Speaker
Oh, yeah, definitely.
00:35:45
Speaker
You can go to nbltheshop.com.
00:35:48
Speaker
It'll come up.
00:35:50
Speaker
Yeah, that's really it.
00:35:54
Speaker
Yeah, that's really it.
00:35:55
Speaker
I definitely would tell y'all to go check out Vicky's podcast.
00:36:00
Speaker
This is becoming one of the biggest podcasts for the Gen Z that a lot of people that's even positive, a lot of people ain't really positive like that.

00:36:14

00:36:16
Speaker

00:36:25

00:36:26

00:36:29
Speaker

00:36:30
Speaker
Thank you so much for coming on my show.
00:36:33
Speaker
And as always, don't forget to be a kind person.
00:36:35
Speaker
You feel me?
00:36:36
Speaker
Bye.
00:36:38
Speaker
Sure.
00:36:39
Speaker
Yes.
