Jake C. Young's Filmmaking Journey

00:01:57
Speaker
so Before we start rolling the movie, I'm going to start rolling our guests up. I'm going to start rolling, starting with Jake C. Young. He is the director and director. also stars in the movie and i will let him introduce himself no he's got the um no you're fine oh yeah hi jake how you doing buddy hey guys thanks for having me on yeah absolutely man what a handsome fella you should be on this catching catch and catchuch with us Oh, boy.
00:02:29
Speaker
do you really want to be in the business room? Jake, this is your first time on the Nonsensical Network, it because especially this this channel or this show, Nonsense to Chill.
00:02:42
Speaker
Tell us just a little bit about yourself real quick before we get to that. pluging Yeah, so I am I'm a writer. I don't. OK, so I probably shouldn't start with that. I'm a director and I'm an actor.
00:02:56
Speaker
I've made like six feature films um that are currently available. Some of them kind of went in the trash bin. But no, um i i got I got the opportunity to direct this film and actually star in this film, Daylight to Dark. And this was a very pivotable film in my filmmaking career and endeavors. I've been doing this for almost 10 years now.
00:03:23
Speaker
And I think this one was, this was something I've been waiting a really long time to to pull off and a character I've been waiting to play for a while. And I got the chance to do that with

Rollin Jewett's Role and Collaboration

00:03:34
Speaker
the help of some really talented individuals who are going to be joining me here tonight.
00:03:39
Speaker
Yes, which we're going to move on to Rollin Jewett. He is the primary writer. And he also did the so this is a spinoff.
00:03:53
Speaker
Correct. It's spinoff of a vampire. and american vapire store An American vampire Yes. Roland, welcome to Nonsense and Chill. I know you've been up on the network with with Glick before, so welcome back.
00:04:08
Speaker
Thank you. Tell us if you're here. Go ahead. good Sorry. No, it's great to be here. Glick, how you doing? Good, man. How you doing, bro? Long time no see. Yeah. Great to meet the but the other the other two of you guys. i haven't met you yet, but...
00:04:23
Speaker
it's It's great to be here tonight. Thank you. Trust me when I say you don't want to meet us. This is as close as you want to get. I do want to say I don't have all my shots. I do to say congratulations on all the music nominations for the awards. Can you hear me?
00:04:39
Speaker
Yeah, we got Okay, sorry about that. No, you're good. i was going to say congratulations on all the nominations for the for the music this year. Thank you. Thank you. there's a lot of great things going on right now. So musically, film-wise, stage plays as well.
00:05:00
Speaker
you know So it's it's been a really, really great year so far. Awesome. yeah rawin ah again everybody, Rollin has been up on the network before. He did an interview with Glick. Highly recommend checking it out.
00:05:16
Speaker
um I also recently watched an interview you did a few months back with, oh my gosh, his name escapes me, but it was On Stage Podcast. Very informative as well. you guys go check the that out.
00:05:29
Speaker
A lot of background information on Rollin. I'm sure some of it was brought up on on Glick's interview as well. Very, very, very fascinating career you have.
00:05:41
Speaker
I've been all over the place, man. You know, never won one thing. So I just decided to do everything I wanted to try to do you know, with mixed success.
00:05:53
Speaker
But I'm still trying, you know I'm still trying to make a career out of this and enjoying every moment of it because I just i just love to, create movies and films and plays and music and I'm all over the map.
00:06:09
Speaker
It's great to hear. Creators got to create. It's yes he's he wears a lot of lot of lot of different hats. Writer, actor, singer, songwriter, but all in all, you're just a great entertainer, creator all around. Just magical person, my man.
00:06:28
Speaker
so Thank you. yeah How did you two link up? um Jake, you want to take that one?

Inspiration Behind 'Daylight to Dark'

00:06:36
Speaker
ah Yeah. So, um, Roland and i had kind of, I guess you'd say we kind of floated around each other a lot in the industry, um, kind of like in a ah roundabout sense and whatever I originally, uh, kind of spawned this idea.
00:06:54
Speaker
i had this idea. i was like, okay, I want to do something with cowboys and vampires. And so i was like, what could that do? So it was in talks about possibly looking at doing something and remaking the American vampire movie, which is a cool classic.
00:07:13
Speaker
And we were thinking about it, you know, and I, we had reached out to Rowland and I'd spoke to Rowland. And, um, as that kind of came about, They were like, nah, this is not this is not it.
00:07:27
Speaker
So I began to start developing a treatment and kind of come up with an idea. I was like, you know, what if this was like just a spinoff in the same universe? I sent the treatment to Rollin, and the next thing Rollin gets back with me, he's like, whoa. He's like, this is material, he said. And I was like, well, what do you think?
00:07:51
Speaker
And the rest just kind of happened. You know, it was one of those things that like it just happened and everything just went. So ah it was a combination of um ah just kind of knowing Rollin in a roundabout way.
00:08:07
Speaker
And then fate kind of took over and had us to morph things together. Awesome. That's cool story.
00:08:16
Speaker
I want to thank both of for joining us tonight. What's that, Rollin? I'm sorry. Yeah, Jake, you know, I mean, look at Jake and you see clint a young Clint Eastwood, right?
00:08:27
Speaker
I mean, that's what I see. Clint Eastwood. i I wasn't going to bring that up yet. I wanted to get the movie rolling. I had this four name nickname for Jake when we, when Michael and I both watched the movie already and we recorded ourselves in our reaction.
00:08:45
Speaker
So if you guys want to go sign up for a Patreon, you guys can go check that out. Um, Definitely. It was all good. We did not trash the movie. Loved it. It was great. It was awesome. We we laughed along with it and we joked along with it too. To build upon what Jake was saying is that I had known Jake for a while and we had been Facebook friends and stuff and talked a little bit here and there.
00:09:14
Speaker
But Jake would post these pictures from time to time like with a cowboy hat on or like you know, with a picture of Clint Eastwood or something. And then i always thought, you know, Jake really needs to do something as a Clint Eastwood, like, you know, bounty hunter or something like that.
00:09:31
Speaker
That was before we even talked about doing a movie together. I thought, you know, he's he's got the look for that. And then when he approached me about doing this movie and he mentioned cowboys and vampires, like I have experience with the vampire movies because of American Vampire, but I'd always wanted to write ah Western.
00:09:51
Speaker
and i've seen every clint eastwood movie probably every one of them at least three or four times and and i've just thought you know this is this is the perfect vehicle for jake it's the perfect situation for me because this is something that i want to to write because i've never written western i've written a vampire movie i know the lore But the idea of mashing those two things together was just irresistible to me.
00:10:21
Speaker
and So, you know, I bought in immediately.

Character Introductions and Actor Anecdotes

00:10:24
Speaker
And then when he sent me a treatment that was like, you know, 50, 60 pages of like really, you know, good foundation work where I could go in and flesh it out and do what I like to do, which is, you know, work on characters and motivations and and fill in a lot of the backstory and that kind of thing.
00:10:45
Speaker
It was just a perfect, perfect union for this situation to come about. it's been great. So just real quick, going into the movie, I had never seen before. I didn't really look into it.
00:10:58
Speaker
I didn't even realize it was a spinoff from from an American vampire story. But when Michael and was watching, I made comment. I was like, dude, this is like a Western. This is like a modern take on the Western. I was like, this is awesome. It's dope.
00:11:16
Speaker
I do want to bring up our other guests. We have two more. cast and crew. Drake is in the house. ah Drake, welcome.
00:11:27
Speaker
Hey, how's it going, man? It's going great. I am so glad to be here. I've been so excited for this event. ah I am an actor in this bang fantastic movie.
00:11:38
Speaker
I play the character Mason, who is unniably the most badass character that's probably ever been created. He's a really smart, intelligent, handsome kid. Kind of like me. So it's like was just, it was meant to be.
00:11:53
Speaker
So ah I'm just thrilled to be here and a part of the production. Hell yeah.
00:12:00
Speaker
All right. We got one more person waiting in the back. Adriana. Hey, guys. Welcome. How are you? I'm great, especially after Drake's introduction.
00:12:14
Speaker
but and thought comes all the stage I love you. No, that's amazing. But hi, guys. Thank you so much for having me. How do you guys get together often from since the set wrapped?
00:12:30
Speaker
No, actually, we don't. I honestly haven't seen Drake since we wrapped. um and But Jake and I have actually just recently finished a different project together.
00:12:40
Speaker
um You know, he just can't get enough of me, I'm to say so it's just So I've had the pleasure of working with him on a different project. So we are from different areas of Kentucky, so we're not necessarily close to one another, unfortunately.
00:12:54
Speaker
But, yeah, so it's always a pleasure to see them as well, every time. Well, I'm a shameless self promoter. I'm gonna pitch myself to you guys. If you ever need a background actor or anything, any any kind of acting you need, ah have a I IMDB credit.
00:13:11
Speaker
I was the voice of the villainous Corrado in the terrible, terrible thing. It's called Maison Magic 2. It's my least proud thing I've ever done, but it did get me an IMDB credit.
00:13:24
Speaker
Okay, congratulations. I hope you go listen to it sometime because none of the choices were my choices. I was i was being directed to do what I did. Just so you know, i was being directed to do it what I did there. I'm sorry, I was a zombie extra in the Hell Van made right here in Ohio.
00:13:44
Speaker
Cool. Very nice. Impressive. Before we get rolling. The most sarcastic impression ever. Before Before we get rolling, um I want to give a shout out to everybody in the comments right now.
00:13:59
Speaker
as as As we're rolling through this watch party, I can't say that I'm going to be able to bring all the comments up and hit them up. ah Glick and i are going to be working that as we go along.
00:14:11
Speaker
But um for people also, you know me, I am a stoner. Glick likes his beer. So by all means, man.
00:14:22
Speaker
You got that joint you want to spark up. Crack open that beer. pop ready We're going to roll in this movie here in a moment. I just want to give one big one more thank you to all of y'all joining us tonight.
00:14:36
Speaker
Glick's here and all ready. This is going to be a fun time. Again, Jake, Roland, Adriana, and Drake. The whole Jake-Drake thing is confusing. yeah It stays that way. It doesn't get better. ba Fair enough.
00:14:50
Speaker
So, With that being said, we're going to go ahead and start getting into this. All right. This is my first time doing this. how we do You guys want to just comment during the movie i would line on ah in certain scenes? If anything pops up that if there's a story you want to tell, let us know. We'll pause it.
00:15:13
Speaker
If you have any like specific things you want to comment on a certain scene, by all means, don't hold back. I have one very important question, and I feel like I'm going to get the answer. i already know the answer.
00:15:26
Speaker
Does one very important character make a return in this movie? I haven't watched it yet, but is my man Bogey in this movie or not? You got to watch it, bro. yeah shi Wait, wait, wait, wait. no story but Have you seen the trailer? Have you seen the trailer?
00:15:45
Speaker
I have. Okay, okay.
00:15:49
Speaker
enough said yeah so listen if you guys have questions too and you feel free to pause it as well we can answer your questions absolutely god i wish i would have went back to the commentary
00:16:05
Speaker
so we actually were able to get this uh vehicle here gentlemen um by this guy who kind of helped off and on on set that we know and he's the type of guy he's like like the one i used to if i need if i if there's uh something that needs blown up he's i got dynamite what everybody needs that friend and yeah you do you know how do i become friends with I was going to say, I worked with explosives in the Air Force. I can be that guy, too. I'm just saying. was really random, and I was like, okay. I was like, let's do it. Let's go. so yeah
00:16:42
Speaker
He's like i gotta it's like, we need an old car. He's like, I know a dude with a Camaro. So I was like, showlo a game on. seven No, Seth. flames to come Let's go out. your exhaustpike He's to go,
00:16:54
Speaker
got So it's really weird for me to watch this after doing the director's cut, because like, I know there's stuff that's supposed to be in here. That's not in here. also So I'm like trying to figure out what's Wednesday.
00:17:08
Speaker
The director's cut now. No, I don't have a tentative release date on it yet. Um, it should be very soon though. luckyja So I've, I've been running around doing like, I'm the students

Director's Cut and Soundtrack Appreciation

00:17:21
Speaker
producer stuff. I heard you guys.
00:17:23
Speaker
briefly say something about the director's cut are you gonna go like pull on Zack Snyder with your director's cut of this movie yeah you like a whole new movie pretty much so like some of the people on here have seen different parts of the what I call the extended version like the first version of this movie was like two hours though but now there's even more like scenes that got filmed that didn't get put in the movie because of the runtime but now that the director's cut is coming out
00:17:55
Speaker
like It's like, it's going to be like a Quentin Tarantino movie. You're going to be like, what the hell? You got to dedicate some time. You're going to dedicate day to watch it. Yeah, this is one that, know, every time a new character is introduced, there's like a whole intro on it. And you're like, what the? Yeah, it's so nice. are going to, think everybody's going to like it. Did y'all shoot down in Florida?
00:18:17
Speaker
Do what? Did y'all shoot this down to Florida? No. How'd you get that manatee zone sign picked? The what? Manatee zone. There was a sign right in the opening shot.
00:18:28
Speaker
The manatee zone. So there's this really cool thing called stock footage. out a cell round interview i grow Yeah.
00:18:43
Speaker
You gotta do what you gotta do, you know? Listen, like, almost everything in a movie, like, that is, like, a background shot, unless you just tentatively go and shoot that, it's all stock. Like, every bit of it. Like, that's Hollywood, that's indie film, that's almost all of it.
00:19:02
Speaker
h Which I'm sure, I'm sure Rowling could probably attest to this as well. Oh, look at his credit. Look at his credit. Did you see that? Yeah. Said the guy who wrote American Vampire. I loved your titles.
00:19:17
Speaker
And that's another thing about this movie is it's a great soundtrack. It has so many people...
00:19:31
Speaker
on its own three d you know an album of the show with all this great
00:19:39
Speaker
Roland, I have to say, you're the most professional gentleman I have ever i've ever met recently in my life. You're just frisk and cut.
00:19:51
Speaker
and i And I mean that with much in dear. No, I think that is a very high compliment, and I appreciate that. When I was listening to the interview with you, i was listening to the interview on stage, and...
00:20:06
Speaker
on stage england I was sitting there listening. You said you're into music. I wasn't really sure what that was.
00:20:17
Speaker
You started bringing up Frank Sinatra and stuff. I was like, that makes so much sense. It's like you have that air of gentleman-ness you. I do try.
00:20:30
Speaker
I do try. Vampire troubles? Call it extreme. vampire trorovis college expert today hey anybody in the comments as well if you guys have any questions about the movie and stuff feel free we got yeah this is a watch bar that's what we're here for
00:20:54
Speaker

00:21:12
Speaker

00:22:35
Speaker
I only ran off from Kentucky. Do what? Was this all filmed in Kentucky then? I'm sorry. Well, yes and no. So the first time I ever actually met Rollin in person was at a con. That's actually, there's footage of it in this film. And that's the first time I met Rollin. It was down in Tennessee.
00:22:53
Speaker
And the first time I ever meet Rollin, you know, I'm expecting, you know, i was like, this guy, he gets me. And the first time I see him, he he's like wearing this cowboy hat. And I was likell that's it like, that's was like, that's I came to represent Daylight the Dark. you know Yes, you did. Yes, you did. And it was awesome. 00:24:08
Speaker
I think my favorite had to be the probably Bruce Campbell. If you've ever seen Evil Dead 2. Yeah. it's on That's my all time favorite. So to get to meet him was awesome.
00:24:19
Speaker

You've done a lot of the cons. You're kind all over the place. He's kind of interesting. Yeah, they're a lot of fun, man. As many as I can do, that's how many I'll do. I've been blessed to do few of them. One around here called Triangle Terrorcon, which was a lot of fun. Of course, there was Phoenix Fearcon.
00:30:05
Speaker
a couple of them have gone like they don't do them anymore. They're not making money. They dropped out, but the big ones are still around.
00:30:16
Speaker
Yeah, she may not look like much, but she's got some good bones. fair Me too. Yeah. That dude's suit doesn't even fit him.
00:30:26
Speaker
No, it's like so tight. yeah We got his stuff at like a Goodwill, and like and we deliberately bought it small. Viola. Honeymoon suit.
00:30:38
Speaker
I was like, I appreciate my rest. Yeah, I love it.
00:30:44
Speaker
have a lovely sofa for so is Outside of horror movies, have you guys worked on any on anything else? was you do all about we be I movie out right now as well.
00:30:55
Speaker
Straight up traditional Christmas or like...
00:31:02
Speaker
but like we straight up like we additional christmas or like Yeah, so it's it's traditional. like It could qualify for Hallmark. It's one of those heartwarming.
00:31:14
Speaker
So it's a complete polar opposite of my horror films. Fair enough. So soft. head casting for you a pearl like a walrus drake You said you were working on you working other things outside the genre?
00:31:29
Speaker
I would love to. i honestly, I want to play a really bizarre role. I don't know what that is yet, but I want to go outside of my comfort zone. Just do something weird.
00:31:40
Speaker
Like a kind of a twenty four style movie. I'm just all about the really bizarre abstract ones. Kind of like an art clown or or or like. too many I feel like it could be freaky enough to be art, maybe. feet on Like four feet shorter, but nose is just as big. It'll work.
00:32:01
Speaker
I've done a movie about Daniel Boone a few years ago. Interesting. Yeah.
00:32:12
Speaker
so he six did like what should we call yeah bruce so and i got a movie about daniel boone a few years ago interesting yeah It was a non-horror film. but anyone else one was It was different. like i had like sit that on here get Your guy committed Diablery there.
00:32:34
Speaker
That surprised me a little bit. okay well When we were watching this movie, apparently I find out that Michael knows vampire lore and lore. It was a learning thing for me.
00:32:47
Speaker
Diablery, a vampire killing another vampire. said no no That's a thing. Yeah, he's just he's a bad dude. but Well, fun fact, that scene that it just left with all the leather jackets was a nightmare audio-wise. I want everybody to know.
00:33:04
Speaker
like Don't move your arms. Don't uncross your arms. don't like It was stand still because we hear it. had the issue so often ah So Drake and Audrey done an interview were fun and they were like, every time there was something crackling the audio, they said Jake gave us the look.

Behind-the-Scenes and Filming Locations

00:33:24
Speaker
And they're like, what was that look? And they said it You never want to be a victim of that.
00:33:31
Speaker
It'll change your life. um on entire life You get the Clint stare. It's real, guys. its life Yeah, I think Drake said he... I thought he was going to tell me to get off his lawn at one point.
00:33:46
Speaker
He was trying to shake his fist. He was terrifying. for I know Rollin has worked on things, other things outside the board. Anybody go look up his resume.
00:34:00
Speaker
Bodyguards in there. Yeah, bodyguards in there. Miami Vibes in there. There's no reason we still can't do that. Fun fact about this scene.
00:34:11
Speaker
and who knows how many Originally, the brother and sister were supposed to pillow fight each other. was very awkward. We had to cut it because it was so awkward. He says this line.
00:34:22
Speaker
Does that answer your question? not going pillow fight you.
00:34:29
Speaker
so he says this line that answer your question i'm not going to pillify you everyone has put sister this is ah This is feeling a really Alabama-ish. It was very strange. It was a very strange real nightmare.
00:34:50
Speaker
for years I'm glad you guys decided to go without the filler fight. But where would we go? that would have been the true horror. Screw the vampires. There's something way worse going on. like know feel like I should be watching this at like one or two in the morning on a i believe scrambled TV screen. and You get the scrambled Cinemax back in the day. doing Like, what are you guys doing?
00:35:12
Speaker
Sign up for this. i got plug a friend of mine and a friend of Rollins as well. um Bo Haas who wrote like a lot of the music in this him and uh Cindy Lou they wrote a lot of music for this film and man is it phenomenal and I mean they are some of the best songwriters and music producers I've ever had the privilege of knowing Rollin knows them very well too and I have nothing but good things to say about them yeah they're awesome and and I told them about this movie that I was writing this and uh Jake was directing it.
00:35:53
Speaker
And I said, hey, is there any way we can get involved in this? And I said, well, you know, why don't you write a few songs or if you have a couple of songs that would fit a vampire cowboy movie.
00:36:04
Speaker
And literally they wrote several songs, at least two or three songs specifically for this movie. And the one that you just heard, Cowboy Vampire, was one of those songs that he wrote today.
00:36:18
Speaker
Here's y'all's boy, Jake. Who's this we just handsome devil? With his hairpiece. There it is. There's that Eastwood It's really is. I Enough not to say you anything. was like calling or free You guys talking about Bo, hopefully I got to reach out to him. Hopefully he'll be a guest on the Blue House of Music at some point in time because disappear Roland rolllins spoke very highly. You've got to have him on. He's he's a great guy.
00:36:59
Speaker
He and Cindy, little we should have both of them on. Start off slow. As genuine and as genuine as it gets. Folks you want to think twice about. Yeah, that fucking toupee, dude. I want it so bad. Toupees. I kind of want Jake's hair. We can get Mike's, Renfell's hair, and I can get Jake's hair.
00:37:20
Speaker
Jake, I got a bring get mike slail gnfel's hair and i can get jae's hair last week so jake i got a play like What's up, How do you how do you channel your you know inner english well ah used to be a call well okay so for my family It just kind of happens naturally, but there is. So Clint and I are actually distant relatives.
00:37:45
Speaker
Okay. Yeah. Yeah. So started we're actually like, coupleboard like if you trace it back, like i actually found it we're, we're distant relatives. Like there's blood there.
00:37:56
Speaker
So I don't know necessarily if it's just a part of that bloodline or if it's just like the growing up, like playing cowboys all the time or what it was, but just something about this film, it just happened. You know what I mean?
00:38:12
Speaker
It was meant to be. Yeah, that's what Rollin, he's like, what the hell? He's like, is this like, this is him, right? I think you would pull, if they did some historical biopic of Clint Eastwood, I think you would pull it off better than his son would.
00:38:33
Speaker
i've heard I've heard that a lot. I've heard that yeah i find Because people tell me, they say, you look more like him. They're like, Scott kind of has his own look. We're having a sec today.
00:38:46
Speaker
Fun fact, that's my wife. When I was telling telling my fiance about tonight, and then here a few weeks from Jake and I sit down. Okay, this right here, this Buffy throwback.
00:38:58
Speaker
Was that a purpose ah purpose ah purposeful onage to Buffy the Vampire Slayer? yeah absolutely well done we loved it so fun fact and that's actually that's my wife playing that role oh hell yeah sorry ladies who's taking wonderful funny It could be fun.
00:39:18
Speaker
know what I was telling Nikki about tonight and then in couple weeks when Jake and I was showing her who he was. And that was her first thing. when She was like, how did you get Scott Eastwood on the show?
00:39:30
Speaker
I mean, no shame on Jake. I'm happy to have him here, but I'm not that good. Because she was like, he looks just freaking like him. Yeah. So, so occasionally I do go by, I use the Eastwood name for stage name. So occasionally I do do that. I mean, can understand the system we live in. would too.
00:39:55
Speaker
i can understand it gri relax when we live in a i with too think Yeah, I mean, it it's a so I'm going to a con where I'm going to be a guest. talking on a cell phone. No, it's July the 20th in Fort Myers, Florida, and they've actually got it listed. They're like, meet Jake Eastwood. And i was like, oh, man.
00:40:17
Speaker
yes So I was like, you know what? I'll get to on that bandwagon with you, just so you know. tell me you know what? isnt some useful wo hey i'll I'll take whatever. You know, I own it. I mean, I i love it. I love the character. i love the lore. I mean, it's just so i'm I'm cool with it. I think I've said enough.
00:40:35
Speaker
So but finding finding places to shoot all these scenes, and or something obviously it was all in Kentucky. europe Was it difficult? Was there a lot of like community support?
00:40:46
Speaker
Yeah, so so we actually went to um Drake's mother, actually got 90% of these locations for us. one Yeah, so Drake's mother, who worked as a she workeded as a production assistant and basically done prop mastering, everything, she got 90% of the locations.
00:41:09
Speaker
Who that? Who what? think they're talking about me. whos what ooh why is that er dr what let's keep that i think they're talking about me put up every comment I got the comments for you.
00:41:23
Speaker
I looked at them like, what? what who Who was that? Did that say did that say music? It was just a general idea of music. yeah yeah unfortunate music Why is this music here?
00:41:37
Speaker
hate using online Unfortunately, we do get some weirdos. This location is probably one of my probably my favorite location in the movie. I love that little soda shop or whatever it was.
00:41:48
Speaker
That little diner. That's such a cool looking throwback place. um love that so Kentucky has a lot of spots like that. What town is this? That's Russell County.
00:42:02
Speaker
Russell County? then That's kind of the cool thing. so Fun fact, I actually went by that restaurant like two days ago. i was there, and me and my family. We went out and ate.
00:42:15
Speaker
We ate at another restaurant right beside of it. It was like shut down. um but it was It was cool seeing it again. go Who is this young man? Where did you find him? hey That's Bryson Repka.
00:42:28
Speaker
He's the one that got the sign. Russell County is like fucking 40 minutes from me. see and here Okay, maybe an hour and right, about an hour. Russell County's not that far from where I live.
00:42:43
Speaker
Holy shit. It's crazy.
00:42:50
Speaker
So this little guy is actually from Knoxville, Tennessee. Came all the way down to Russell County, Kentucky just to shoot this scene. Oh, wow. I didn't know that. He's so sweet. non oh This is great. He's the best. He is the best. Yeah, he also came to CreepyCon.
00:43:07
Speaker
Yes. And we met him at CreepyCon as well. So it was cool taking pictures with him. He came to the premiere of the movie. I mean, fantastic people. That's okay. That's from Darkroot.
00:43:19
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, you got it. You got the reference. Throwback. You love it.
00:43:25
Speaker
Easter egg. we'll go so Fun fact, do you recognize the guy that's talking? Not right off the top of my head, but... So in Dark Room, he was the one that actually got killed by the guy wearing that mask. The first guy?
00:43:45
Speaker
Yeah, and that was Drake in that scene with him in Darkroom. Oh, yeah. Was that really Drake? Oh, nice. didn't know that. Yeah, he's a real good friend of mine. That's Gage. Yeah, he's incredible actor.
00:43:57
Speaker
He does a lot of stage plays. I mean, you give him any assignment, he'll take it up just like that. Even if it's getting stabbed in a movie twice in row, he'll do it without complaint. and he's ah He's part of Lindsey Wilson Players, which is actually where I got my start on stage. ah yeah like Is that like a local theater group?
00:44:16
Speaker
It is. It's part of Lindsay Wilson College up in Columbia. Okay. So it's, they do a whole like summer program and everything called Theater Fest, which is basically like community theater. And they just, but now it's like a minor and a major, like it's its own thing now. It didn't used to be, but their program up there has absolutely blown through the water and gate. I like getting updates from Gage on that. So we've got a little place too. It's called Lickin County players or something like that.
00:44:44
Speaker
but they oh yeah They link up with Denison College and stuff like that. Put on some really good shows. It's just in a hole in a wall. there you building Right. good shows. Did you who that was? yeah Handsome sumbitch.
00:45:05
Speaker
well this The scene before that was actually a really cool scene. I love that scene. That has the Duke of Spook in it. Yeah. And he was the host of CreepyCon, and he's incredibly talented. He's also a filmmaker as well.
00:45:19
Speaker
His name's Chris Bell, I believe, right? so And if you like that scene, you'll definitely love the director's cut. Okay. Oh, yeah, yeah.
00:45:30
Speaker
He definitely builds on that. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. Well, and I noticed he took some creative liberties from reinvented some of the vampire awards especially the daylight part i did you know and i did the same thing in american vampire 28 years ago yeah that's bold so very bold i decided to just throw out the book and just say you know what that's all a bunch of bullshit that doesn't work
00:46:03
Speaker
but I even say that. We threw that in as a line. i even say that. yeah And you know, as a director. is talking about it when we' were watching it the first time. That's why he brought it up. Yeah.
00:46:16
Speaker
As a director, you don't know how incredibly thankful I was for that because that saved us from having to get everybody to come out at nighttime to shoot. Night shooting is a nightmare,
00:46:29
Speaker
Especially the lighting crew and everything. Everybody gets to keep their beds on. It's okay. But hey, as long as the vampires have sunglasses on, it's all good, right? Yeah, they just don't like sunlight. They don't mean they they burn in it, right? And they break out in a horrible rush.
00:46:44
Speaker
Yeah. said that mean bunchch They sparkle in the sun. It's why I can get away with it. We can get away with it. Hell yeah. I can't look at this these...
00:46:58
Speaker
this brother and sister without hearing Doolin banjobs. Sweet home Alabama. Roll time. That's what it is. The Kentucky-ness leads through. come on. Oh, come on.
00:47:07
Speaker
roll ta made gro revenue that's what it is kentucky the kentuck is bles through oh come on but Maybe a little close to getting a little look close to West Virginia there. Is that what it is? kentucky legend a new and There you go.
00:47:28
Speaker
Hey, but this scene is pretty cool, though. We actually we had the premiere of the film at this same place. It was a Okay, so this whole...
00:47:39
Speaker
it looks like a pretty place it was it was a really nice old place yeah okay so i this this whole This part confused me. There for a little bit, I forgot this was being taken place at a con within the movie.
00:47:55
Speaker
Am I wrong that? Yeah, it was HorrorCon. yeah Okay. so But it looks like they're at like some very boring music concert that I would avoid.
00:48:06
Speaker
So, if you look... when they when they run into this con they go to a place and it says vip section so they're in the vip section my brother and i put that a little back that sense okay didn't really pack anything for this That's good.
00:48:26
Speaker
I like that you don't look like the rest the Now this guy, he done a fantastic job, Wade. he's This was his first feature film. but he is He's a major in like Eastern Kentucky University in film, but this was his first feature, and he kicked ass.
00:48:43
Speaker
I'm flat. He's such good guy. the Pleasure's all mine. All right. I'm the only one that knows. This is not an only condemnation, but his accent changes throughout the movie. yeah gone Did anyone else catch that?
00:49:02
Speaker
Yeah, so we actually done that on purpose because yeah he starts with this British accent, and then when he gets really angry, he gets more of that Victorian accent, like, Vra the Impaler.
00:49:14
Speaker
Well, the dude's been around for a thousand years. i mean, you know, you pick up different accents. He's got to practice this non-regional diction if it want to read the news.
00:49:25
Speaker
Hey, so I'll tell you guys, during his original audition video, we had him to do a ah table read after we'd done the callbacks. So when he done the callback for this, the first line here where he's like, are you having a good time? He goes,
00:49:42
Speaker
how are you having a good time i was like bro what is the letter of the day yes i was like you cannot go straight into it with that accent you gotta to gradually get to that it was my commentary and It would have been amazing

Themes and Character Development

00:50:06
Speaker
he did. extra Oh, man.
00:50:08
Speaker
like Like me and like two of the other interviewers, like like one of them got up and left the room because we were laughing very so but um want I want to ask you guys, with this movie compared to, and this is more her po for for American Vampires, for this movie, were you china was it going more a little bit more serious approach and than the first one? The first one personal was...
00:50:32
Speaker
one it was just It was just a fun movie to and allow I would definitely say that. you know there's there's more It's a little darker than the other movie. yeah than you know we have we have less ah left less jokes, I guess, less a little bit less humor that's more slapsticky in this one.
00:50:55
Speaker
It's more subtle humor in this, and then it goes a little bit a little bit darker, I think, on this one. i think I think the first one definitely fit into the air in the late I've had dreams about this. Stuff like that. It fit in really well.
00:51:08
Speaker
um I'm not able to write something that but doesn't have comedy in it. Yeah. best bathroom scene ever right why someone said it thank you i love them and that scene with drake was hilarious i had way too much fun telling me that bring all goes he goes he goes hell yeah unfortunately he doesn't remember it when it's all over made it down um
00:51:39
Speaker
I know. Darn. So that actually, that actually, that scene was supposed to take place with a different actress.
00:51:51
Speaker
So we ended up having some scheduling conflicts. So I immediately, like the day that she couldn't make it, I called Audrey. i was like, Audrey, I need you. quite sad And she showed up and luckily she saved the day. But I was like, I need you here like today. was like,
00:52:07
Speaker
Like a real hero. Yeah, she she was like, I got you. And she showed up. Got you. Yeah. Nice. that was Not all heroes wear capes at the end of the day. That's right. Some of them had fame. Some them had fame. Some of them consistently throughout the whole movie, it kind of actually really worked. Yeah, right?
00:52:28
Speaker
What's the lifestyle would that be? I said, because you did these extra scenes and stuff, it made you more consistent throughout the whole movie. Absolutely it did, because Lilith didn't even have a name in the original like like idea with the movie. Lilith was just basically like a background. like She was a one-liner and was done. And then it was just... Speaking of...
00:52:54
Speaker
either the need popped up or you know the idea popped up about well this would be a good addition who can we have do it and it was you know oh we can make this character do this instead and so it was it just made her much more strong character in this which of course i loved for multiple reasons but ultimately i just really loved what she grew into because it started off not being that and then it was it just snowballed in the best way.
00:53:25
Speaker
Absolutely, absolutely. Yeah, I think she started out as vampire number three. at that the number one Yeah, i but I love the character. Her character is just so solid in this story. Oh my God. yeah Well, I mean, and we had never worked this is really yeah well we had never worked together before. And if I'm not mistaken, it was like a friend of a friend that suggested me to them. So they were taking a risk on somebody they didn't know either.
00:53:59
Speaker
and so good then it just kind of, like I said, snowballed. And we bonded and hit it off. And everything was just, and the rest is history. Hell yeah. for For anybody wondering if you're watching right now, if you're wondering what we're watching, we're watching Daylight to Dark.
00:54:16
Speaker
We've got the writer, director, and cast members in here hanging out with us. Thank you guys for being here. ah this You can find it on prime Video right now for rent or to purchase. It'll be coming out on the Tubi eventually.
00:54:30
Speaker
you know And they've got Blu-rays available as well. As somebody who likes watching movies from time to time, Tubi fucking amazing. Tubi's great, man. I believe I watched...
00:54:44
Speaker
Well, I know I'm watching Jake's movies right now on TV. I'm doing my homework. I'm just so bad for Drake's character. He gets the nookie, and then is told to forget about the cookie. That's just not right. Best night of your life. In the director's cut.
00:55:02
Speaker
ahnew that phone yeah i've been looking man i'm looking forward to this director that was that was just pure out that was all out of jealousy drink that's all it was he was just jealous i know i tell myself that every single night okay he's like we're gonna go go we' go ahead and put this ad in here he forgets all about it I am good.
00:55:24
Speaker
Whenever we were filming this, I was listening in on audio and I hear him go in the bathroom and like his jacket. And then all of a sudden it's like, okay, I think I'm done. Whoa. um
00:55:37
Speaker
whoa that's awesome up our player It was great. It was a lot of fun. It was a really fun filming day. Yeah. All the background actors, they're all so good. Yeah. um we They were a lot of fun too.
00:55:51
Speaker
Yeah. I almost thought that was Sig. Sit there for a while for a moment, Sid. I would say Sig. All back in the background.
00:56:03
Speaker
Isn't there somebody out there by the name of Sig? S-I-G?
00:56:08
Speaker
yeah and then first did you guys notice or you know take note of the fact that the vampires all have like black leather jackets and white t-shirts so they you know represents their that they're part of a gang a gang yep cool i thought That's a nice little homage to like the 50s greasers and stuff like that. and that that was
00:56:43
Speaker
That was the original idea because, you know, they all kind of look like that because that alludes like that's the air they're stuck in. You know what I mean? They peaked in the 50s, man. Even the mapping was from the Cowboys. Nothing has changed in this little town for 70 years since they've been there. Oh, wow. Yeah.
00:57:02
Speaker
ah wow yeah u with you went you went greece that's why they can't give like people and internet and all that stuff you know yeah hey from what i hear thanks for what i heard john travolta is a pretty cool dude oh no he sounds like a great guy but i'm i i'm stuck in the horror genre you went greece white t-shirts black leathers i went stephen king sometimes they come back i went greece yeah nothing against greece i love the movie i love the soundtrack Well, was trying to have a much better movie than sometimes they come back.
00:57:33
Speaker
You're not wrong. but Well, being the writer and stuff, were you on set for a lot of this? You know what you've done? just You're just like, you're looking. Unfortunately, I was not. This is the first movie that I've done where I haven't really been on the set. Unfortunately, I would love to have been there. And it's just I work a full time job. So have a family. So we've really have been very difficult for me to do that but you know jake and i conferred a lot about the script and uh i trusted what what he was going to do with it and he was very communicative and sent me pictures and stuff like that and uh i was very confident
00:58:19
Speaker
My vision is going to be on the screen. I mean, our vision. of Naughty, naughty boys. And it is. It's all there. Isn't it past your bed? I was going to if he lived up to the vision you had.
00:58:34
Speaker
Oh, yeah, absolutely. some Nice costume. You're talking about a ah budget. Just missing one thing. It's very difficult to do a movie at all. ah vam And a low budget movie is just constant challenges, you know? Something comes up almost every day where you have to improvise. it's what know You have to call Audrey and say, Audrey, can you play this character today?
00:58:59
Speaker
And things like that happen all the time low budget films.

Low-Budget Filmmaking Insights

00:59:03
Speaker
And know this turned out actually be a lot better than I expected even. just because everybody pulled together so well mean he had a great team um everybody was like on board and you could just feel the camaraderie and the teamwork that went into making this film so i'm very happy with the way it turned out yeah it does seem like the chemistry on set and i'm sure jake will probably contest
00:59:35
Speaker
listen what's good was everybody It was It seemed like everybody got along at fun in the of chemistry, here they are again. Okay, yes.
00:59:45
Speaker
yeah we you find a hu oh I'm a 12-year-old at heart, I'm sorry. um No, it was, ah it was, everyone done a very good job on playing their roles.
00:59:58
Speaker
um And even some of the the stuff that was just up for surprise, you know, ultimately, you it was, it was very difficult, not gonna lie. I mean, I was there every single day. There was not a day where I was like, okay, I don't feel good, can't show up. No, every single day I was there.
01:00:17
Speaker
And, It was rough because I would see some people would like be like, nah, not today, man. Or like somebody would get sick. And sometimes everything felt like it was falling apart. But like Roland said, ultimately, everyone really chipped in and showed up. And not only did they show up, but they performed. And that is what makes these people...
01:00:36
Speaker
true ah True actors and true entertainers because they went through some grueling, grueling things. Like one day there was like 100 degrees outside. They're out there just shooting. Oh, my God. that mean, it was but they they delivered. So I'm very happy with how it turned out. Stay back. no back The actress here had to have two haircuts to wear that dress.
01:00:57
Speaker
What?
01:01:00
Speaker
Yeah, what? gro dress um Two haircuts. Say hello. We lost you there for a moment. Sorry. I don't have enough weed on us this
01:01:15
Speaker
week. Rollin, you made the main mention of a low-budget film. i A lot of times, i appreciate low-budget films more than I do high production movies, especially when it comes Hollywood nowadays. What the fuck are you? What did you do to my sister? So less is put into what makes a movie good, the actors and the writing.
01:01:41
Speaker
and Jonah Helsing. The people giving in their all not being overshadowed by CGI and Michael Bay type explosives and shit.
01:01:53
Speaker
Oh, it's ah it's a whole different thing. and And the amount of commitment that goes into a low budget film, because the people that get involved in low budget films really, really love and want to make films.
01:02:08
Speaker
And it's more of a ah visionary type of situation with but one or two people, maybe the writer and the director. It's pretty much their vision that you see on screen.
01:02:21
Speaker
It's not done by committee the studio film where you have 10 guys in the room and everybody has an idea and they try to please everybody. This is more of like, you know, a couple of people's visions and, you know, their commitment to, to making something that they would want to see. This is a movie I wanted to see, know, and, uh, the way that the, that everything came together was just amazing.
01:02:50
Speaker
Um, And I think that the people who watch low budget movies are looking for something different. They're not looking for a studio film. They're not looking for that polished kind of community vision that something that they've seen before over and over again. They're looking for something a little more specific. what about you victor And I think that's the allure of a low budget film. Yeah. apparently a new guy Another question I had. ah Jonah, cal the first name of Ben Hilton.
01:03:22
Speaker
Was that a nod to Jonah Hex at all? um Sure. um I said the pause means a no. I have no idea who Jonah Hex is.
01:03:35
Speaker
I know who Jonah Hex is. i just I didn't really put that with one and one, but you know what? It works. I had that Western vibe, too. Love Rasta. Right on time. Well, Jake actually named that character, so you must have had something in mind, Jake. It just kind of happened. Oh, you know what? So actually, I do remember.
01:03:55
Speaker
just letter i had written and a treatment for this, and the character's name was Jonah, because in the original idea I'd had, he had talked to this girl, and She's like telling him about these Bible stories. And he's like, I like the story about that guy and the whale. And she's like, Jonah? He's like, yeah, that's that you can call me Jonah. So that's kind of how that came about.
01:04:15
Speaker
okay I like the name a lot because, you know, it is, to me, I thought it was a nod to Jonah Hex, number one. But I also thought Josie Wales, you know. I knew it. And Josie, to me, that like sounded really cool. a Real cowboy-ish, too, you know. Finally meet you.
01:04:34
Speaker
josey wales i knew that those are some
01:04:46
Speaker
i don't know ways and i haven beat by the wayss those are some big shoes to fill fair enough fair this guy was hilarious sorry but what is that weapon that was the question we had someday it's a st nice pe oh god for this yeah like and Positive
01:05:16
Speaker
That's going to be a really painful state because it is blunt. It is It's Oh, very come for you.
01:05:29
Speaker
me joe you you the in a um that it ah guess that's it
01:05:45
Speaker
i i love it you wouldn't do it okay so when this vampire died like they're getting set up like this he's just like some old vampire that's disabled that he needs help and then he gets left in a room and bell van helsing pops up right like yeah Easy pickings.
01:06:07
Speaker
It's kind of like the Jabba the Hutt vampire in Blade. that's like what through the fall how hang However, death scene kind of reminded me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the original movie.
01:06:18
Speaker
The one-armed vampire, when she stazzed him, he's like, and he's kicking the wall. in the original story, Vlad was actually supposed to bring him back to life and then kill him again.
01:06:34
Speaker
Like, he was just brutal. Like, that poor guy, that poor old vampire. Like, they were just mean to him. Hey. Poor guy. My foot so fast. you There it is. Look at that.
01:06:48
Speaker
I need it. You know, how do you not know what happened to that? I'm so heartbroken. The more I see it, the more I want you to have it. Where is that to pay?
01:06:59
Speaker
This is Jake's on a mission. probably took it yeah we probably probably either gave it to him or he actually like threw it or something like he still uses it to this day that thing's gonna go for thousands on ebay where did you find it at so we could buy a rep i love the uh The aluminum foil hat. well too this was at oneson Have you ever seen my other film, A Night of the Undead? light movie
01:07:32
Speaker
Not yet. but um so This guy makes a constant cameo throughout all of those films. This dude right here? Yes. Okay. like His name is Tim Foil Hat Guy. so same Same guy. His name is Easter Egg. Yeah. yeah we He and Dingus, right?
01:07:51
Speaker
Yeah, he was actually That's actually he was also the reverend in Darkroom. Oh, okay. Oh, yeah. Oh, you know what? Okay, and yeah.
01:08:02
Speaker
That reverend, man, he was something else. There's the man, Bogey. I love that character. He played a And by the way, you got to see that subscribe. Yeah, you do the same thing for this, too. Hit that line. Hit that subscribe. Flick that bell. alls So this guy, Danny Hitt, was Bogey post year american vampire 28 years there's danny and he did a cameo in this movie some of the same character i fucking love bogey in there the original movie man just amazing by the way that was my guy so if you know if if nobody understands what we mean by the original movie of course we brought it up earlier
01:08:42
Speaker
American Vampire Story. This is a spinoff of that. It's got Carmen Electra in it. Actually, was her first film. Shout out to Rollins. That was her film debut. he he introduced the world to the great, beautiful Carmen Electra.
01:08:58
Speaker
I don't know if I should apologize or, you know. No. I think she was one of the good ones. But I digress. I still have a great performance in the film. I'm in my 40s and I still have the biggest crush on Carmen Electric. She might be a hot mess.
01:09:16
Speaker
She still looks great. She looks amazing. Maybe she's a vampire. She looks amazing, huh? living maybe she's a vampire maybe say She has not aged a bit.
01:09:29
Speaker
and our very neighborhoods as well thatic you She's got a great personality. i mean I was on the set with her and she was just as sweet as she could be at that time. comments get sorry audrey bad i suck as a producer so it's my first night as a producer all right no you're forgiven this one time it's just one time you get one no except she's got that sweet southern accent i know Listen, so I have to give it to Audrey for being able to talk in this whole movie with those damn fangs in her mouth. The whole movie.
01:10:09
Speaker
The whole movie, she had them in the whole, every scene, she's wearing the fangs. and Every scene. She nails her her words. I mean, and like like, there was no lisp. I mean, she was perfect. So I got to give it to her. right Thank you, thank you. Because they were in there like trying to put Bondo and stuff on them make them stick to their mouths.
01:10:28
Speaker
oh That was so crazy. Poor Wes was like, i can't get over it. I don't know what to tell you. i don't know what to do. People don't realize how difficult it is to get, you know, authentic looking vampire fans. Yes. And how hard it is for the actors.
01:10:46
Speaker
That's my husband. Sorry, so I didn't mean to interrupt. I'm sorry. That's my husband. I just walked in the trunk on there.
01:10:54
Speaker
vampire movies That's normal, Shirley. Living out a fantasy there. this is like a This was like a family affair for this movie. I well i asked him, i was like, can we just leave you like this, all tied up? Can we just can we just leave you like this? my name Get in.
01:11:11
Speaker
yeah okay I work part-time at a liquor store where I live, and there's a drive-thru. And you just it's like you look like one of the my customers that pull up. Let me get two shots of fireball, please. Are you serious? Absolutely.
01:11:30
Speaker
It's the most Kentucky thing I've ever heard in my life. We do slushies, too. Oh, they do slushies. I love that. And then if you want an extra shot, we'll put it in there. Oh, come on. You can tell me. It sounds crazy. It's from Pennsylvania and her little town. You can go to the gas station, local gas station, and you can get the alcohol slush.
01:11:52
Speaker
Oh, dude, Kentucky. I'm great guy. Yeah. You insist. I'm good. So I look like that type because I would be that type. I would be that bitch that just rolls up and is like, give me what you got. Let me get two shots of fireball in the back of Litchfield. Audrey rolls up and says, give me a true blood. Yeah.
01:12:16
Speaker
audrey rolls up and says give me a true blood yeah true i think gave her so so thank you sir thank oh my god you are a gentleman in a scholarright shared law You know, this kind of reminds me True Blood, like this whole thing. Like it's very Southern vampire. It is. like a I can be Sookie all day long. it You know what's interesting is that I actually went to college. The guy who like originated, who wrote True Blood.
01:12:50
Speaker
He actually developed that. His name's Alan Ball. I went to college with that guy. Really? Oh, wow. was a really guy. I was in a play that he wrote and at FSU.
01:13:01
Speaker
That's where I went school. That's awesome. He wrote American, what is it American Beauty? Oh, yeah, yeah. That guy's amazing. I got mixed feelings about that movie.
01:13:14
Speaker
American Beauty? Yeah, a lot of people do now. Yeah. At the time it was like, you know, wow, this is something very original. So, Roland, I got to ask you, and I asked you this last time you and I got to hang out and talk.
01:13:28
Speaker
you know What's it like? Because I know we were talking about this ah move this movie in particular last time you were on here. What's it like for you seeing it finally hitting the big screen?
01:13:41
Speaker
It's streaming. It's actually happening. It leaves the paper. and it And it's finally happening, man. Yeah. No, it's amazing. It's really gratifying because, you know, I've been in the business for a long time, and I i got out of the business for a long time.
01:13:59
Speaker
I was in Hollywood. and I lived that whole life through the 90s and the early 80s, and I got jerked around a lot. You know, there's a lot of people out there that that talk the talk, but they don't walk the walk. know what mean? Yeah.
01:14:14
Speaker
They offer this. They offer that. they they They want you to write this. They want you to write that. And then they disappear or the funding falls through or, you know, there's some problem or they leave town.
01:14:28
Speaker
You just never know what's going to happen. And the reason I really wanted to get involved with Jake and Penny and, you know all the people in this is because I knew they were going to make it I knew they were going to make the movie.
01:14:44
Speaker
I knew that they had the crew. and knew they could get the cast. I knew they had the equipment. I knew that they were familiar with the whole Indie go-go thing. They had done three or four or five movies before this.
01:14:58
Speaker
So they knew the drill. um And that was that was the biggest incentive for me to know that, hey, if I write this and I help them with this, it's going to get done.
01:15:11
Speaker
yeah you know that's the biggest thing for me is you can talk as much as you want about what could happen, what might happen. But when you, when you have get involved with people that actually make it happen, yeah it's a whole different situation, you know, and it helps you from a level of commitment as well.
01:15:30
Speaker
Yeah. It's your Kevin Costner filled a dreams moment. If you write it, they will film it. I want to, I want to, this, just real quick, this, this part of the movie, this scene with, with the sister stuff,
01:15:43
Speaker
Kind reminds me of Lost Boys when the older brother is turning into a vampire he's going through the symptoms and shit. It kind of reminds me of that.
01:15:53
Speaker
Second, when will vampire movies please, and no offense, Jake, vampire movies stop using raw meat as like this thing that vampires need?
01:16:05
Speaker
Because there's no blood in the raw meat that we buy at Earth for stores. Yeah, but the raw meat is more like a werewolf. Hello. Dang, I'm not really... Am wrong? Am I wrong?
01:16:16
Speaker
Maybe it just tastes good. fucking kid maybe just is where Where are you getting your raw meat? I was going to say, i mean that there
01:16:30
Speaker
You're ruining the movie, you dick. there there is no blood on all no blood's taking out it's some sort of un blood if you want to know what's going on it's that that sister is turning well it's not the blood so that's the blood component maybe that's what they need in the you're ruining the movie you did like call rich Well, I can tell you right now, my mom almost threw up at that part during the movie because she doesn't do horror movies anyway. So when she saw that, she was like, bleh.
01:17:01
Speaker
So fun fact. That was actually in the container. Anything? yes yeah that was good That was actually in the container. I love gore. Kind of handsome. and that was Yeah, that was actually Rice Krispie Treats with food coloring. Very handsome. Nice.
01:17:14
Speaker
So I had to tell her that, and I was like, I promise it. that She's like, I i know, but it just it's the idea, and that I can't. I don't know what to tell you. I'm sorry. was right incredible that wasn't a call That's That's a move right there. the I like, damn, these guys are actually fucking off some ground cool Oh, you're such a sweet. She's risking her GI tract for this. We love you. man my Some actors will go through some shit. Some actors will. Oh, no.
01:17:52
Speaker
Right here in these ports. The battery went dead in the family. Oh, God. He's got six.
01:18:03
Speaker
my sister they got familyling I need to help her. Hey, so fun fact. I wanted to say in that scene before with Drake and Audrey, that was near the end of filming. And that day, it was like almost 100 degrees outside. So hot.
01:18:19
Speaker
Is that how you stand sharing? We can't. oh It was so hot. What do you mean can't? It was bad. it It was like, I mean, literally in between setups, I was like, I need to sit in the shade and take off this jacket. I've got to, like, I'm dying.
01:18:34
Speaker
Three layers. For some reason, I had the hoodie on, like, all the way zipped up. I had a tank top and then even that sweater. It was so hot. ah you My husband's, like, fanning me. I'm going to tell Drake to get his shit together.
01:18:50
Speaker
ah yeah never see the vampire get off before look he's just easygoing mason will never pick up that hoodie well because he covers all his muscles he doesn't want to be too intimidating i i i love how jake's character just tosses you a towel like clean yourself off yeah please come on it's just brains get over it it's
01:19:15
Speaker
you'll be There's actually, there's more to that scene that you'll see in the director's cut. um That scene was actually cut short, but in the director's cut, it's the full length of, yeah there's more intuitive of like when he throws him the towel.
01:19:29
Speaker
Please stay in the spot and let us know when the director's cut comes out so we can push that through we can try to get some link. I feel two more of Dracool's men. Do you want me to intervene? want to see the director's cut. Well, i will I'll actually see Drake, or not Drake.
01:19:43
Speaker
I'll see Jake. God damn it. Drake and Jake Gottman. I'll actually see Jake in just ah just a few weeks. So we can dive a little bit farther into the extended cut as well as obviously all his other films when he comes on Glicks House some Music.
01:20:02
Speaker
why flip Why does one host a music show and have a director an actor on it? Why? Because that's that's why. i go whi my out What Roland wants, what Roland gets. Roland's calling this. I think when we were in a movie together, think, Glick, we talked more probably about other things than music, you know? Yeah. But it was fun because, you know, we had everything else.
01:20:31
Speaker
Rollin, which I think Jake, you can you can attest to. needs someone he's He's such a good guy, man. When we started talking 10 minutes into the conversation, yeah we were like two old friends that hadn't seen each other in years.
01:20:42
Speaker
We didn't realize that we just met each other.

Upcoming Projects and Humorous Moments

01:20:46
Speaker
Yeah. yeah we just We just talked and had a good conversation and had a good time. knew it. This has been a good hang. It's like you guys are cool as hell to hang with it. You made something awesome. We you these love it. Love it. Glad to it.
01:21:00
Speaker
glad to hear Speaking of seeing you, Jake, are you going to be on set at all for the last block of filming for Last Sleepover? Yeah, I'm going to try to be. I didn't get to make it on the last one. You did not.
01:21:13
Speaker
yeah I had some stuff going on, but I'm going to try to talk to Greg. I'm going to try to be there for sure. just to Even if I'm there for a day, just to meet and see everyone. Yeah, you need to see everyone.
01:21:24
Speaker
yeah you need you need to meet everyone they're fantastic support i so i've worked with some of them but not all of them so that was me yeah see see i knew it my god i knew it what the this is good news
01:21:44
Speaker
um know what god this is good news helping you he's like i just met this guy he can help you trust me it all makes sense i like to think at least during some parts in the movie mason is like high out of his mind that's just my own little win keep keep helping that dear keep helping that your character does seem like the type that would partake in the uh vampire babies I mean, they're going to a music festival. So, I mean. Fair enough. Yeah, fair enough. Fair enough. I feel like he's going to the just to protect his sister.
01:22:17
Speaker
This guy just screams nerd vibe. he's going to get the. family We stick together. After all. It falls off. It's going be my concert buddy.
01:22:30
Speaker
Oh, my. That came out so wrong. He's not breaking it off. He's just getting the leftovers. Oh, man. Leftovers. That's it. Weird. pay the bill. Yeah.
01:22:43
Speaker
That's what we do here on Fridays. We make it weird. That's what we do here on the Nonsensible Network. It's not just Fridays. My ass drives in from Kentucky to Ohio. It's the first thing I do. Dispensary.
01:22:56
Speaker
Oh, Shit. but Man, this poor guy can't catch a break. He can't. hey hes Not with his hair or his life.
01:23:09
Speaker
This is Rollins singing this song. Don't you talk about that hair in a negative manner. That hair is legendary. It might be the problem in his life. It's a glorious mane.
01:23:20
Speaker
she ah Dirty, airy Elsie. Here we go. Here we go. Are you sure she can help us? This is my favorite part, I think. as like Oh, my God. I had so much fun getting my ass kicked.
01:23:35
Speaker
You already own the hat, Jake, or was this a prop? Who pulls flask out anymore or something? oh So there was not real alcohol in it, but there was a flask, yes. What was in it? Water. That's cool.
01:23:50
Speaker
water cool It's got to be hard-grained, you know, to be a vampire, right? No, so so i can actually I can't drink that much anymore because it makes my blood pressure raise too high. So every time I drink, like I start turning really red and like I can't.
01:24:06
Speaker
It's crazy. Stop drinking dark liquor and switch to light beer. In the immortal words of the great blind blessed, who wants to live forever? here and quiet Okay, first of all, have no idea. Second of all, not a vampire hunter.
01:24:21
Speaker
He would drink. His face would get bright red. When I was a kid. Yeah. gja Not yet. You only had a couple of years. No wonder her spilt.
01:24:33
Speaker
on the last day of shooting, I took off my my my hair piece and I had shaved my beard down. And like nobody knew who I was. Because when took the hair off, everybody was like, who is this guy? You just showed it randomly on set one day. Yeah, they're like, who is this? I had to tell him it's the new shit.
01:24:50
Speaker
Yeah, every time I would take my hair off, I remember Audrey was like, oh, I forgot that was your face.
01:24:58
Speaker
and be wi it is a very very good the first time i saw game sound and it goes with him like it it was just as i was just so confused for longest time so quickly for this movie you just your hair always grow like a week because i saw you a couple of weeks ago or whatever it wasn't nearly that long and he's like and this is a hair a hair piece and i was like wow you know that is so yes that's exactly what i said it' so legal you know yeah it was just two days in the movie that's what i said i've already got the cowboy in the bedroom i can get jake's hairpiece and and we can just yeah hey we're here to see
01:25:45
Speaker
I told you. That's after after dark. Nonsensical nonsense. Let's go out the fuck out of here. It's getting weird. That's called daylight after The cowboy hat you wear to the movie, Jake, i yeah did you already own it or was that a prop? um so I actually bought it for this movie. We got it at Hobby Lobby.
01:26:13
Speaker
What? Oh, for real? Hobby Lobby? Yeah. Hobby Lobby? Yeah. I have a whole other problem. no I shop at Hobby Lobby.
01:26:24
Speaker
Well, I have to. Jonah. So I actually think there was a spoof on set when I was talking and like I messed up a line and I said, too my cowboy hat was $7 from Hobby Lobby. And like, I never missed a beat. and Like everybody just fell apart.
01:26:40
Speaker
is i actually said it. a nightmare There's even a joke at the end of it when Vlad says something like, you know, bring me his head and burn his stupid hat.
01:26:58
Speaker
I love that line. Yeah, so when we were shooting that, I was like, my hat's not stupid. i wonder but with You're stupid. My hat's not stupid. You're stupid. Yeah, my hat's not stupid.
01:27:16
Speaker
Tuesday was so great to work with. Jake's got real heat with the actor that played a lot. Tuesday, what? I said Tuesday was so great to work with. What was your full name, though? ah keep playing like you didn't know What? you Tuesday what was your full name? entry old Tuesday night. Tuesday night.
01:27:34
Speaker
That's her name, is Tuesday night? Yeah. She was in Nightmare on Elm Street 4. She was actually the lead with Freddie Cooper. I think it was called the Dream...
01:27:49
Speaker
The dream child. or Dream Warriors, I think it was for. Dream Warriors, it was Dream Warriors 4. That was one my favorite movies. That's why she looks so familiar. Yeah, she was Kristen Parker. The one that was to cut her.
01:28:04
Speaker
Hold on, I'm going to do quick Google. Her father was a guy named Baker Knight. And he wrote a bunch of hits for like Elvis and Ricky Nelson.
01:28:20
Speaker
that was her dad. Wow. She's a really talented singer as well. And songwriter. Yeah, definitely Google. The King Elvis Presley wrote, I'm sorry.
01:28:36
Speaker
He got recorded over 600 songs. How many did he write? i don't know. i don't care. I'm not big Elvis Presley fan. No, Nightmare on Elm Street 3 was Dream Warriors. 4 was Dream Masters. Dream Masters.
01:28:53
Speaker
This is great. They changed because Kristen Parker was Patricia Arquette in Dream Warriors. She looks so fucking different, dude. From there to there? Yeah.
01:29:05
Speaker
No, she doesn't that much. It's a couple of hair. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's right. So, yeah. that ju It was the same same character, different actress. Look, Lily, I can only say I'm sorry so many times. i am a I am So, do you typically smoke a cigar, Jake? I need your help. um I have been known to smoke an occasional cigar, yeah. All right.
01:29:26
Speaker
Like, does he know what he's doing with that? but The running joke is that he never gets to actually like the damn thing, you know? He's crying three or four times in a movie when he never gets to like it. I still have real alcohol. Like, I didn't know if it was like, guys, I've never really smoked cigar.
01:29:45
Speaker
Let's not really smoke it the entire movie. Yeah. if See, that was, yeah, that was the joke. Like the whole time he, in the original script, he was finally supposed to light it.
01:29:55
Speaker
But at the end, I was like, nah, like this guy, you know, and Roland had kind of said, what if he never gets to smoke the cigar? I was like, I love it. Running gag. Yeah. It's one of those things where you're like, is he gonna, it's like, it's like that, hey, that big thing. Gunny Hartman had the cigar. Yeah.
01:30:18
Speaker
And, you know, of course, you know, in a lot of old Clint Eastwood movies, Eastwood always had the the cigar, too. So I'm going to play on that as well. I am the vampire queen. That's that's gety looks and're like a cigarillo.
01:30:30
Speaker
I've got something. Yeah. Yeah, he had the cigar in Heartbreak Ridge. You can use it to track him. so Did anyone else, did you guys notice the AI portrait of the replica of what's supposed to be kind of Adam West from American Vampire? i wasn't sure who that was supposed to be.
01:30:51
Speaker
Blaise pointed it out. Blaise messaged me after you guys watched like the next day. yeah And we were talking about You were like, It's okay. can't believe Adam West was in it. I said, well, he's dead.
01:31:02
Speaker
But you're like, oh wait a minute. There was like a picture or something of it. And I was like, so fun fact, we couldn't actually use the rights of Adam West. So that is a AI rendering of a guy that looks kind of like Adam West. Roland calls him Adam, not West. the Adam East. Adam East. Adam East.
01:31:23
Speaker
Yeah, it's it's hard to do this movie and not at least in some way, shape, or form represent the big Cahoon. Oh, yeah.
01:31:34
Speaker
Exactly. 100%. You did a great job and with the cameo of Bogey. Did we learn anything? I was telling when I had him on before, I was like, I remember watching this movie she was able back in the late 90s, early 2000s. And I refreshed my memory and I rewatched it.
01:31:50
Speaker
location best place And I forgot just cool how great that American Vampire was. It's just a fun movie that you just watch and enjoy yourself. A little vampire, a little scary. and Whose cabin is this?
01:32:03
Speaker
It's a beautiful cabin. So these are actually they rental cabins. there are some people yeah so There are some people who had, for the last three films I had done, um they're local, they they rent these cabins out on the lake, Airbnb, and they decided, you know, we linked up with them and ah some of their family members had been in some productions and they they let us use these whenever we needed them.
01:32:32
Speaker
uh for pretty much nothing and you know they you you can actually stay in these cabins like to date we're at where are the cabins located they're in uh they're right they're in nancy kentucky it's like right on lake cumberland um was actually I was actually waiting for Drake to go. This is my mom and dad's vacation home. When this is over, I was going to become very, very good friends with Drake. We're going to become the best of friends.
01:33:01
Speaker
It's just... i news your sister Whether you like it or not, you're be best of friends.
01:33:10
Speaker
okay like they That's my mom's rental. Summer cabin. She built it for the movie. With her bare hands.
01:33:21
Speaker
Fun fact. on this ah On this last movie that Audrey and I just did, we actually built the whole set. and it looks like a ah ah church cabin and we built the whole thing out of like fake walls and stuff so in 15 days didn't you jake 15 hours 15 hours sorry 15 hours i know mike would be a luxury right yeah that's true yeah guy to play a role in your movies feel free to hit me up i would gladly be a tough guy in a movie
01:33:55
Speaker
Well, you know, some some of the actors in this, and you saw the posters

Collaborations and Fan Involvement

01:34:00
Speaker
of missing people in the very beginning. Those are actually people that contributed to the Indiegogo.
01:34:06
Speaker
And they got some perks. So some of those missing posters in the very beginning are actually people that contributed to the movie. I do on-set coaching, too, so I can i can help out. yeah That's a good way to give them a thumbs up. my wedding was called on chip and ended Yeah, you.
01:34:33
Speaker
yeah audrey does onset coaching very good we are thank you like child in trouble yeah act acting coach yeah like acting coaching show i'm listening to you so I mean, I could do a tough guy pretty well. i don't I don't think I need any coaching. But on the acting part, I definitely need coaching. Well, I got you. but Since Glick and Michael offered, I might as well go ahead and offer. You might as well. You got a You got to put the work out, Jay.
01:35:03
Speaker
I know. You just you literally, this this this episode just created daylight to dark the sequel. I'm just saying. I wouldn't do anything. I would i would truly i would truly be honored. I've been so excited. like Jake, you guys have no idea how excited I've been for this movie. i don too After I'm rolling on and hanging out with him. I consider him a friend. man That's my brother right there. I've been so excited for this. snow That was so cool when you when you mentioned to do this. you know I was immediately like, see yeah, definitely I want to do this.
01:35:39
Speaker
man And you kept after it, you know. and I was like, mc well, it's not quite ready yet, but, you know, we're getting there. And you kept kept with me, man. You kept with me and saying, hey, to never age can we do this yet? And I'm like, yeah.
01:35:53
Speaker
I think we're just about there. As soon as we were there, I was like, all right, now's the time, Blake. We got it. As soon as it was ready, man, I was like, let's lock it in. We were talking. He said, how would you feel if we got the director? was like, bring him on. And he was like, what do you think about the cast? Because this isn't my show. This is Blaze's show. I like, let me reach out to Blaze and see what Blaze thinks. And Blaze is like, the more the merrier do your magic bro and i was like let's do it i'm not a big this is a blast i love doing this kind of thing good because i'm not a big interview person but having a watch party and just watch put a movie on shoot the shit with the cast and crew oh it's so fun it's been such real treat for us yeah yeah you think you'll do it again or do more yeah he'll do it again
01:36:43
Speaker
yeah he'll do it again
01:36:47
Speaker
what other movies are you willing to come on and watch with us if i have my way yes we'll do it again yes want to watch et no i'm just like
01:36:58
Speaker
yes i wanna to watch et ah now i'm just like typically i'm not here on yeah Typically, I'm not here on Friday night. That's why I've been disappearing and doing behind-the-scenes stuff, doing like producer work and adjusting mics and doing comments and fixing stuff because like this is their baby. like um I'm excited for these guys, and I'm glad to be a part of it. but uh yeah if they're down for it we absolutely do it again and uh that's what told blaze i said i might have to rebrand my music show and uh just do entertainment and then you do things like this you better not be screwing well it's been a lot of fun i know drake was saying it was a lot of fun and i know jake's really been
01:37:40
Speaker
you know very thankful and making sure to voice that you know how thankful we are for you all having us on here so thank you again it's it's been a lot of fun this is my first it's not definitely not my first interview but it's my first watch party interview so it is a little fun yeah yeah what are the you amazing humans are going to team up again they all right hunt for another collaboration. They're doing Daylight Star 2, the sequel. What? And all three of us will be in it. You're dead. I don't know what he's going to do.
01:38:12
Speaker
He's going to be a comedian on stage telling jokes, and I'm going to be the sub-shot. I know a wonderful special effects person that can just put a bullet hole right here and Lilith can come back. It's great. and drink comes back If Drake comes back, I would like to put him for the job of Drake's bodyguard because he really needs somebody to look after him. Can I get like really like ripped like actually for it just like wear a tank top all the time?
01:38:37
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll be like, I know you want to go in that bathroom, but let me do it for you. There's two. You may not be able to do it. I got you. You'll remember it next time. I know. So, so we're that thats roll and that's, that's, situation.
01:38:53
Speaker
that's our sel material yep yeah i' make ah okay Mason is now he's famous writing books about my experience with the vampires. yeah would actually be safe That's a good concept.
01:39:06
Speaker
That is a good-ass concept. good yeah umve ah So listen listen, to answer your question, I have dabbled with a few ideas And Roland and I have actually discussed later in the life, we may or may not want to do a daylight to dark scene.
01:39:26
Speaker
And possibly with all of these same humans in it. Oh, hell yeah. You'll find a way to bring Lilith back. yeah It doesn't take 28 years though. you know I may have aged a little by then, so let's not.
01:39:43
Speaker
You can always play her evil twin sister. Yeah, you go. There you go. I got you, Audrey. I got you, girl. Drake, I'm out. Audrey, I'm out. He got me.
01:39:56
Speaker
That's fair. That's fair. I can't even blame you. um Listen, this all depends on the actor's availability. you Remember that. I can't believe you.
01:40:13
Speaker
Oh, this line is funny too.
01:40:22
Speaker
always bit you black in a mompo basicallyally the original trailer the teaser yeah for the movie It's like the first thing you shot, right?
01:40:34
Speaker
Yeah, and you can actually, like, Drake looks totally different. I do. To be honest, I was doing a lot stress eating at that time, so I almost even looked a little bit like, won't say, but like almost chunkier in this.
01:40:49
Speaker
well You can see my hair is like huge. How do you even feel that you're back? How soon after this... This was shot. Did you actually shoot the movie?
01:41:02
Speaker
Gosh, please. That's a good question. Like, I feel like it was about four months. Yeah. Wow. Was it that much? Oh, God. That's amazing. yeah That brings up a question I've How long i mean did your original principal photography take to do all the shooting?
01:41:19
Speaker
Ten days. played a vampire. Wow. Wow. Wow. a lot with 10 days yeah so hang on this is great it's my favorite that was our first thing like first first lesson yeah right oh
01:41:37
Speaker
it's my faith that was our first thing like good reading first sort lesson running
01:41:49
Speaker
ah begin
01:41:54
Speaker
There you go. Get an onion, kid. Happy Halloween. That's garlic. said an onion. That's my bad. That's a vampire lore. Straight. That's right. I only take boots for two. The hearse. One.
01:42:04
Speaker
person yeah listen va empirere war straight hey audrey your boot it only take my boots ah to the hearse why Okay, I dig the idea of LL saying, like, driving around in a hearse. I'm sorry.
01:42:24
Speaker
However, you're not going to believe this. It looks too pristine. It looks like you just vapire um it off from doing it too. So um you're not going to believe this, but Drake, go ahead.
01:42:39
Speaker
So my mom may have done a lot for the set, but the hearse, believe or not, that is my sister's hearse. shit That is what she drives around casually around town.
01:42:50
Speaker
Your sister is cool as shit. I'm not going to tell her that. I'm not going to tell her that. Very nice of you. Her head. Is she or is she not a coroner?
01:43:01
Speaker
this cheer is she not a coroner No. Maybe in free time. don't know. Wow. She works at a bank. Listen, like 90% of the time you see me in that hearse, like his sister is like in the backseat.
01:43:14
Speaker
listen so like ninety percent of the time you see me in that hearse like
01:43:20
Speaker
It's so funny, you too, because she's like she's super short and super light. She's just tiny, but she drives around that huge-ass hearse everywhere, and it cracks everybody up. I mean, she'll go to the like fast food drive-thrus, the guitar store, everywhere in that damn hearse.
01:43:40
Speaker
Does she have a coffin in the back that somebody hides in and jumps out and scares people? Because if not, she may, she, she can capitalize on this. Okay. You've got this. open Every October
01:43:57
Speaker
is sister with
01:44:03
Speaker
it ready Fortuary Transport to go for it. Right? It's not a Holstein tie.
01:44:15
Speaker
hi
01:44:18
Speaker
Is it a Holstein tie? It's supposed to be a black and white cow? im afraid and i I'm back. I've loved you for a thousand. Holstein is black and white, to answer your question. Sorry. Is that what the tie is supposed to be? This is great. He don't know. just part of his wardrobe. Then I guess I'm wedding crasher.
01:44:43
Speaker
I've got weird questions. I appreciate your questions. and I appreciate you. So I like, those were clever lines when Drake is like, hey, asshole, save the corny lyrics for Taylor Swift. We love that shit. Yeah.
01:44:58
Speaker
Whenever he told me that was my line, it's like I've been waiting for that moment my entire life to say that. He was just so right. And now you have to shake it down there. He must be Swifty. Did you really think you could stop me?
01:45:12
Speaker
No, was. yeah i just wrote a play based on american vampire ghost gone vampires yeah i have a i have a couple of jokes about you all right kid so yeah i totally just took it my yeah roland you gotta you got you're you're working on on uh when the movies are over if we got time i kind of want to bring that up roland and his plays we talked about that on on my show what he wants to do with horror movies and plays
01:45:43
Speaker
And ah those darn vampires is kind of that, that's at that first experience into what you wanted to do, right?

Stage Play Success and Celebrations

01:45:50
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. In fact, I had, after American Vampire, i had thought for years, like, but it was a low budget film.
01:45:59
Speaker
ah Not as low budget as this one, but it was low budget. come on out And so when you have a low budget film, when you're writing low budget, you have to you have to limit your locations because you can't just go crazy and have it take place in a palace and then fly to Europe and be under, you know, the Eiffel Tower.
01:46:17
Speaker
You have to make sure that the locations are doable, affordable, all those things. When I wrote American Vampire, I set it in like two or three locations.
01:46:28
Speaker
And always thought it would make a good play, stage play. So I finally wrote it, you know, 27 years later, finally wrote a stage play.
01:46:39
Speaker
And I didn't want to call it American Vampire. That actually wasn't even my original title. So there's a line in it where guy says, you know, i got to get rid of those darn vampires.
01:46:51
Speaker
So that's what I put as the title. But we just had a stage reading last night on the Kings of Horror channel. yeah And it went great. i I missed it last night.
01:47:04
Speaker
ah Unfortunately, the anticipation, it anticipation, anticipation. and take Anticipation. march The anticipation and the excitement of this weekend and and having these these gentlemen here with me and having you guys live on the network with us.
01:47:20
Speaker
I kind of crashed out a little early, but I got up this morning bright and early and started watching it. I got about halfway through it. And the Kings of Horror did a really good job, man. Shout out to the Kings of Horror.
01:47:34
Speaker
And I know tonight, really still won't when the well, tonight after this show, they're actually playing a ah live broadcast of American Vampire. Nice. On Kings of Horror tonight.
01:47:46
Speaker
So it's ah it's ah it's a full-on vampire weekend for Roland's weekend. It's Roland's good day. It really is. My birthday was last, know, on Tuesday. it's like all this stuff is happening, man.
01:47:59
Speaker
For my birthday, I feel ah feel so special, so loved. ah happy Happy late birthday to you, brother. I didn't realize it was a birthday. 32 looks great on you. I'd say it's been a really, really awesome, gratifying week.
01:48:13
Speaker
And this is just you know icing on the cake here. yeah this is this is this is kind of a This is a pretty big weekend the rolling for Roland. It's a birthday watch party. It's a birthday event party.
01:48:27
Speaker
Who wants to sing after birthday? Definitely to overshadow Glick, by the way, no amount of baby oil is too much baby oil. I'm your guy. it's at any part you know Come down, Diddy. He was saying something about wanting to try to get on the show.
01:48:44
Speaker
I just want to make sure that they know I bring more to the table. Hey, here here's the part. He almost gets the cigar. Almost. Come on. fucking lighter.
01:48:55
Speaker
Yeah, bought that cheap lighter.
01:48:59
Speaker
Well, shit. Damn this son of bitch.
01:49:03
Speaker
I gotta say. Well, shit, howdy. Well, yeah. Congratulations, man. Great movie. Great job, you guys. I'm going to do something.
01:49:15
Speaker
Would you like to do something? Yay. You should have blooper reel. I think I won. with the sampling him a little bit of that vampire blooper reel stay too long oh lord i love all the way out on this one yes i love this look there's behind the screen and see you didn't even know we weren't on a a little a little shout out to adam right here am wrong uh the scene more but i would like you Eventually. I guess, you know, the cigar thing is kind of like close, but no cigar, right?
01:49:53
Speaker
But in King. but d Damn. ah yeah Such a phenomenal ending. So, Jake, did you get turned at the end of that? What happened there? So, he just turns into a vampire. Like, it's kind of like... It's like one of the other...
01:50:11
Speaker
Yeah. The woman who was unclean. Yeah. So there's actually, there's actually like an end credit scene on there too. i don't know if you guys seen it. We watched all the way through.
01:50:22
Speaker
We saw it. Okay. So there was like an end credit of like, like, cause that was an idea that someone had had. Oh yeah. This is it. Yeah.
01:50:36
Speaker
Yeah. name is Jerry. I'm looking for my girlfriend.
01:50:41
Speaker
that was awesome sorry it was uh jeremy shows up in the end and gets he killed by a vampire but yeah I used to deserve it.
01:50:56
Speaker
Yeah, he was a jerk. gary Jerry's a douchebag. Come on, Jerry. Jerry's a real douche. We got a guy like that here. His name's Glick. Yeah, he's a real fucking douchebag.
01:51:09
Speaker
I can't believe it. Yeah, there was a lot of homage to... ah callage to ah the big kahuna, like, because Jonah comes in, he's like, stop that sucking, you know? And then he's like, and then he like, he's telling Mason's character, you know, he's like, when I was a kid, I denied my heritage, you know? And like, ah the big kahuna that took me under his wing.
01:51:34
Speaker
and you know, we, we, Rollin actually come up with this. He said, you know, he was like the Batman of vampire hunting. and Nice. Well, I was going to say, what the, the, the,
01:51:45
Speaker
and Oh my God, my my brain's a little... But wasn't the Big Kahuna, wasn't he actually a Hellsing? yeah Yes, he was. mean At the end of the day, Jonah would just be another descendant.
01:51:58
Speaker
Yeah. these are They're relatives, you know? Yeah. yeah So it kind of it kind of makes sense. There's a backstory there. Yeah. he's ah He's like a mentor, you know?
01:52:09
Speaker
ease There was so much meat ready to be put on screen. The prequel. The sequel. The mequel. The pre-sequel. All I got say is wait for Daylight to Dark Part 2 where Glicks make his acting debut and I resurrect Lily.
01:52:32
Speaker
so So good luck on that hell scene. You won't get her this time because I'm watching her back. no We're going to get you, Drake. yes Oh, I know that for a second. that Hey, go ahead.
01:52:45
Speaker
Make my day. now do you feel lucky? He's bringing the blood. He's bringing the blood. He's bringing the blood.
01:52:57
Speaker
I love it. Hey, that's the next line, Rollin. min Do you feel lucky, Vamp? and Do you feel lucky, Vlad? feel lucky, Vlad?
01:53:08
Speaker
it. you love it What a great night, man. Thank you so much, each every one of you. think that's for all of us when I say thank you so much for coming on. Thanks for having us.
01:53:20
Speaker
You know, your take on everything. You guys were an amazing group to have with us. Thank you so much. It means a lot. and This is like a big reunion for us because we haven't really all got to see each other together in a while. yeah It's like a big reunion for us.
01:53:38
Speaker
It's your sister, Dale. They're great. Awesome. Yeah. It's okay. how does one are How does one get a signed autographed picture of the poster? um One would say... im I'm just Jake, can you just show the audience that cool-ass fucking poster?
01:53:57
Speaker
Oh, this one the one I just took down? Yeah. Oh, you just take it down? That's the air cool. yes like That just caps all together. I dig it. Such a fun watch.
01:54:10
Speaker
If you want to hear it without us yammering through the entire thing, you can find that on Amazon.
01:54:16
Speaker
i like no it didn' Like Michael said, congratulations to all you guys. well and Obviously, I've been here since day one. you know i've been Well, not day one, but ive you know since we talked, I've been excited to do this.
01:54:29
Speaker
I've been ah been kind of an annoyance. I'm not going to lie. No! I've been excited for this. you know um But you know I thought this would be a really cool thing.
01:54:42
Speaker
Imagine that. I was right. I'm always right. I never said you were wrong. I will say this. We will we are going to start winding down. So, yeah
01:54:57
Speaker
Audrey. but i Audrey, Anna, I apologize. That's okay. Words are hard. Well, actually, I was going to call you Audrey because I know everybody else was calling you Audrey. At the last split second, I was like, maybe that's not a good idea.
01:55:12
Speaker
And then i fucked it up. Where can people find you some other movies you've been in surround down? Sure. So right now, ah if so I'm not mistaken, my running total is at eight feature films now.
01:55:27
Speaker
um And so they can find me on IMDb. um And they're all listed on there and where each one is located, those that are ready to come out. Some are still in post-production.
01:55:39
Speaker
um hopefully they will see the light of day you know like jake said in the beginning sometimes that doesn't happen but hopefully it does and if they're just looking to follow me um i don't have a separate social media for my acting it's all combined into one because it is me so uh they can find me on facebook or instagram i am on both what's your what's your uh what's your facebook and instagram It's just my name. It's Audrey Kurtzinger.
01:56:06
Speaker
So just A-U-D-R-I Kurtzinger. And then if I'm not mistaken, i think the Instagram is actually still under Clark, which is my maiden name. So C-L-A-R-K.
01:56:16
Speaker
Oh, I'm trying to find and you're confusing me. I'm so sorry. Words are hard. I'm confused. big Big dumb animal, ladies and gentlemen. Adriana, thank you for joining us on this watch party. Again, it was an awesome movie. I enjoyed your acting.
01:56:32
Speaker
I enjoyed you being up here with us tonight. Thank you for having us. Woo-hoo. Woo-hoo. Woo-hoo. Drake. Not to be confused with Jake, but Drake.
01:56:46
Speaker
Where can- D-R-A-K-E. What's that? What? I said D-R-A-K-E. Not like the songwriter. i want to um retail I'm reclaiming the name Drake entirely. The real Drake. As you should. As you should. in but can our audience find you, my man?
01:57:05
Speaker
I mean, same thing, really. I'm on Instagram. It's under my name as well, Drake DeFron, D-A-F-F-R-O-N. It's a really weird last name, so if you don't find me, I won't hold it against you. um As far as other movies, I was in The Dark Room that Jake also directed, phenomenal flick.
01:57:22
Speaker
And um that in the future, you can see me in Daylight to Dark 2. Is it official?
01:57:32
Speaker
it a journal I don't know where I got to get the money. i heard it too i mean I'll figure it out. I heard it too. Willis gets her revenge. We got him this time.
01:57:44

Reflections and Final Thanks

01:58:01
Speaker
ah Roland, are you ready to write the secret? oh I need a break to tell you the truth. But, you know, I got to recharge and then, you know,
01:58:12
Speaker
As long as we can come up with some good ideas and it and it makes sense, I'm down. We're going to send our treatment after the weekend we spend together. I hope it's as good as Jake's was when he sent his to me.
01:58:25
Speaker
I promise you, it will not be.
01:58:30
Speaker
Where can our audience find some more of your work? Really, it's just just Google my name and all kinds of stuff will come up. it's You know, okay.
01:58:41
Speaker
You'll see music stuff. You'll see playwright stuff. You'll see movie stuff. You'll see poetry and and short stories. I have two children's books coming out before the end of the year.
01:58:54
Speaker
So, you know, there's a lot of stuff out there. I've been doing this for a long time since the eighties, basically. And so just Google my name and, you know, pick and choose, cherry pick what you, what you want to see.
01:59:08
Speaker
Roller might be a vampire because he don't look a day every 25. yeah Yeah. That's where all these vampires are. Awesome, man. I knew there was a reason you're my best friend.
01:59:19
Speaker
hope you're more than I got you back.
01:59:23
Speaker
We're not afraid to kiss a little ass either on the Nonsense Network.
01:59:29
Speaker
And the director tonight, Jake. And star of the film. Yes. And co-writer. And co-writer. What can he do? he's going to get taken down by Glick in part two. It's gone, buddy.
01:59:44
Speaker
There you Glick's got his old whole character arc going here. Yeah, I'm ready. He does. He does. It's going to be a beautiful standoff between the two of us, bro. He'll be a wonderful heroine. He does.
01:59:59
Speaker
Jake, where can my audience also find you? ah Yeah, so if you guys, if you google you Google my name or you can Google Jake Eastwood, um I'm on Facebook. You can punch it in under Jake C. Young or you can punch in Jake Eastwood or you can find me on Instagram and I'm Jake C. Young underscore official.
02:00:21
Speaker
I'm starting to hashtag Dirty Harry Helson. Yeah. that's ah That's a thing now after tonight. yeah but I'm going to hashtag good versus young.
02:00:34
Speaker
I like it. I love it. I love it. and And again, i am so thankful that you guys had us all on here. It is so nice to see my my friends and my co-stars again. Just awesome people. And like said, we haven't seen each other in such a long time. it feels like and Well, Audrey and I just finished a film that we wrapped together where she actually plays the lead. So it was nice to see her again after that and get to see Drake. He's he's always great. And of course, can't say enough good things about Rowland. And thank you guys for sitting here and listening to us ramble about this terrible movie. It's a great
02:01:14
Speaker
and know it's it's a great movie Roland knows like I brought up a couple of his movies and when when he was on my show and he was like, you watch that. I'm like, I'm always shocked. You know, if somebody actually has watched something I've written and he knew American Vampire. He knew who was in it and everything. And I was like, you know, how do people how do people know about this, this movie even? But I guess it was it was around back in the day.
02:01:44
Speaker
and And I've always, me personally, and I think you're the same way, you and I are both, this is where we talk a lot on movies, you and I are both fans of the low-budget movies. see years So just real quick, Roland,

when I was in the military, like i remember going to Saudi and Qatar, and some of our down times, we'd go to the BX. And there was there was always these box sets of these just like,
02:02:14
Speaker
B-horror flicks all just packaged together. We had nothing to do except watch movies and listen to music on our own time. So we'd fucking throw down five, ten bucks and buy bunch of B-horror flicks.
02:02:26
Speaker
And we would sit there in our free time and we would watch these B-horror flicks. Because it was just something different. it was it just it was It was a great time filler.
02:02:36
Speaker
what so i mean especially Especially B-horror flicks have always been ah a great thing for me so yeah i mean that's that's the thing about b movies is uh some of them are so bad that they're good and you know what i mean by that yeah yeah yeah awesomely bad you just you just you just like the fact that they're so imperfect you know the the characters are crazy maybe the acting isn't that great at times or something out of nowhere happens that you don't expect and it's really that's the beauty of the people
02:03:10
Speaker
Today, and I meet so many of them, even at at these cons, there's a lot of people come up to me and they said, hey, you know, I saw American Vampire with my dad back in the 90s. And it has a special place in my heart because it has memories of me and my dad watching cheesy movies.
02:03:30
Speaker
And that means so much to me because, you know, to be a part of somebody's life, especially a memory, with their father that may not be there anymore. Or, you know, they snuck up and they turn a TV on at two o'clock in the morning. Their parents didn't know that they were sneaking and watching this movie.
02:03:49
Speaker
Because the American Vampire was on Showtime. i It was released on VHS, on DVD, was in Blockbuster. and all the stores so lot of people have seen it but i don't know you know who's seen it and just to hear stories of people that remember it and uh it just makes makes my heart full so good appreciate the guys the people that appreciate the low budget films Roland, I love I'm a fan.
