The Olive People
Avatar
19 Plays1 month ago

Two gay Palestinian men with too many opinions and not enough patience for explaining ourselves. While our people endure genocide and struggle for liberation, we’re here to shed light on the everyday lives of queer Palestinians in the diaspora—our joys, contradictions, petty debates, and deep feelings. This isn’t a defense, it’s a conversation. Join Khalil and Ali as we navigate it all with humor, honesty, and absolutely no filter.

Discussing Queer Palestinian Representation

00:00:37
Speaker
think this is just a little introductory. to start off the YouTube page, the podcast listing, like why are people, why are we making this? Why are people here?
00:00:50
Speaker
Why you should watch us and hear us yap. I feel like we are just being like the queer Palestinian identity politics, like representation um um I guess, two gay Palestinians just like out and about in diaspora.
00:01:12
Speaker
And I think that there is a lot of content right now about Palestine, Palestine, that's centered around the genocide. um And that is obviously super important. And we don't like shy around that fact.
00:01:30
Speaker
But there's also not enough representation of specifically queer Palestinians. And also just queer Palestinians just like not talking about things that are like directly related to that all the time. Like

Mix of Personal Stories and Opinions

00:01:44
Speaker
what our lives and what our opinions and what our thoughts and feelings are as human beings like everybody else rather than us constantly defending ourselves and from whatever opinions, like this is just like us putting our brain rot into the world.
00:02:04
Speaker
Exactly. Brain rot. To me, I feel like the show, the Olive People, is to perfectly, as you said, encapsulate like the experience of both the Palestinian diaspora as well as people who grew up in the Middle East who are now living abroad in the diaspora. And also just an opportunity for us to talk about nothing.
00:02:27
Speaker
And um like we talk about Dubai Bling. We talk about Ramadan, we talk about. It's literally whatever we want to talk about. and you're i there's from Because there's people out there who don't think we exist.
00:02:41
Speaker
Right. Like, generally speaking. Right. Who don't know what we think about, what we want. Obviously, everyone's experience is different, but this is just our experiences and our stories and also...
00:02:54
Speaker
What makes us laugh? What makes us cry? What makes us angry? and yeah, it's a pleasure to get to do that with Khalil. It's a

Personal Agendas and Estranged Parents

pleasure to do that with Ali.
00:03:06
