00:00:44
Speaker
All right. This is started on this four hour long episode. I know when I first started doing it, I was like, I just did the first card and I was like, this much information and I was like, you're definitely going to have to cut that down because there are 22.
00:01:02
Speaker
Yeah. It's a lot. Yeah. Yeah. It's like everything I put in there is just like, I'm just going to say it. I can't elaborate on any of it. Like just saying it. Like I'm going to give you some basics and then I'm going to give you some like specific basics and then that's it. And that's it. Otherwise we'll be here for three years going through just this episode. Literally. I think 12 hours later.
00:01:30
Speaker
For real, that front accent was really good though. I always think of the Spongebob one. Yes. Every time it's like a lengthy thing. Anthony, I say it all the time. All right.

Basics of Tarot and Major Arcana

00:01:42

This is going to be our first episode in our three-part tarot series. One of these three episodes will be a Supercast-only exclusive episode. If you're not already a member to our Supercast, make sure that you sign up now so that you can see the member-only episode.
00:01:57
Speaker
And this episode has been a long time coming and it's requested by our lovely subscriber Trisha. So just as a little disclaimer, I know we say this multiple times on the podcast, but if you didn't know already, you can absolutely request episode topics that you would like to see us cover. All you have to do is send us an email, DM, tweet us, and just let us know what you would like for us to discuss.
00:02:21
Speaker
So in talking about tarot and the major arcana, I found this quote that I felt would be perfect to open up with. So it says, now it is the arcana which stimulate us and the same time guide us in the art of learning. In this sense, the major arcana of the tarot
00:02:39
Speaker
are a complete, entire, invaluable school of meditation, study, and spiritual effort, a masterly school in the art of learning." And this quote was anonymous, but it was in the Meditations on the Tarot. I really like that quote. That is a nice quote. I found it in a book that I was reading. And I was like, aw.
00:03:04
Speaker
And talking about the major arcana there's, and just Tara in general, there's going to be so much to talk about when it comes to this topic. And for this episode, we're primarily going to be focusing on some basics and diving into the major arcana. But just as an FYI, this episode is going to be way longer than many of our other episodes. Yeah.
00:03:26
Speaker
just because of how dense the information is.

Symbolism and Intuition in Tarot

00:03:29
Speaker
And we cut out a lot. We cut out a lot of information. Exactly. And even if like what we discuss, you know, it's not going to be the end all be all. There's so much that we could not include in this episode just relating to the major arcana or we would be here for like seven years. So literally, there's the amount of information that I came across was insane.
00:03:54
Speaker
It really is. I mean, I think only on two cards that I kind of touch on symbolism, but you could literally do an entire episode on symbolism of each card.
00:04:05
Speaker
And it's super fascinating, but there's no way we could have done this on every card or else we, I mean, like I said, we would be here forever. It would be like an audio book of just like 22.3 hours of us talking. And we would have just probably hated ourselves at the end, but. And then adding all that information and splitting it across multiple episodes would mean that we would be talking about Tarot for like two months, probably.
00:04:33
Speaker
And we're not trying to bore you all with terror for that long.
00:04:38
Speaker
But you know, if there's a specific card that really speaks to you that you would like us to do a deeper dive on, you know, maybe that could be a supercast episode that we do. Like that would be amazing. Like taking one specific card and doing a deeper dive on, especially if that's something that a listener really connects to, but. You know, just let us know, but we're not doing that for this episode. No, no. And honestly, like we could probably do full length episodes on one to two cards if we wanted to go into like all of the information, but again,
00:05:07
Speaker
we would be talking about Tarot for months at that point. We really would. So before we even look at the deck, let's just briefly discuss some basics when it comes to Tarot. For those who maybe this is their first introduction to Tarot and you didn't know or maybe you might know, but aren't quite sure, Tarot is a divinatory practice that helps in the development intuition.
00:05:31
Speaker
And the media tarot is often portrayed as a way to tell the future, and you'll see this a lot in horror films as a way to predict death or something like demonic happening in someone's house, but all of that is pretty far fetched like that's not true at all. So, what can tarot do for you, a youtuber that I love.
00:05:52
Speaker
Her channel and her name is Bobbi Long. She said it the best. Tarot can give you meaningful perspectives about the past, present, and future. It can bring your conscious thoughts to the past to help you learn and heal from your past. It can provide understanding for your present as in a way to help you understand why some things are happening because of your past. And it can help to reveal possibilities or alternatives for your future. So it can help to see if the
00:06:20
Speaker
if your current actions might dictate your future and help you to see if there's something you should be focusing on or letting go of, et cetera, et cetera. So all in all, it brings your consciousness to the past, present, and future.
00:06:35
Speaker
And because of the amount of information that there is on Tarot, Tarot in general can feel a little overwhelming and often a little confusing when you don't know where to start. You just have to rip off the Band-Aid in this sense and jump right in. Once you start, it'll start to make sense to you. You'll begin to build a relationship with your cards and putting your energy into your cards. This is what helps like when you're asking it questions and getting these
00:07:01
Speaker
you know these different cards that are your answers essentially to help guide you into you know what what it is that you're looking for. You have to build that relationship and put that energy into those cards over time to start really like getting a sense of it and getting that reading that you want. If you have a deck already I would honestly say grab it right now as you're listening to this episode and as we go through the cards go through them with us.
00:07:28
Speaker
Try to get familiar with each card in the major arcana today as we discuss them, and it'll help kind of build on that for you. Tarot pulls what you don't know that you already know. So like it reads from your energy, it helps guide you through the information that you seek, but know that your bias can also project your feelings into your readings. So try to like go into your tarot without bias, without judgment, and just pull that information for yourself.
00:07:59
Speaker
And just as like a general thing to kind of go into before we hit on the Major Arcana cards,
00:08:06
Speaker
I feel like a lot of people struggle with understanding like what you're supposed to do with your tarot deck and how you're supposed to interpret the cards. And really it's all based on your intuition and intended meaning of the card. And that's going to meld together to form the actual reading. So each deck has an author or an illustrator. Sometimes it's different. Sometimes it's the same person.
00:08:30
Speaker
The author and the illustrator uses specific items, colors, and symbolism to reflect a certain meaning. So most all decks will come with a little tarot Bible or a booklet or a manual, whatever you want to call it, that tells you more about the intended meaning of each card. But you should be looking at the intended meaning of the card as well as using your own intuition to surmise what the card is telling you. And within a tarot deck, each color symbol or
00:08:59
Speaker
Within a tarot deck, each color and symbol has its own meaning. Nothing is a coincidence or left of chance and everything placed on the card has a meaning that can be interpreted. So just keep that in mind whenever you start working with a tarot deck.

Major Arcana: Spiritual Journey and Life Events

00:09:16
Speaker
In terms of the major arcana, this portion of your tarot deck can be considered the soul of the tarot deck. And sometimes it's referred to as the journey of the fool, with the fool being the first card within the arcana. It's said to show the pilgrims quest towards wisdom and the soul's trip back to the source. And in this sense, we are the fool and the journey is ours as we've grown and become enlightened throughout our lifetime and
00:09:44
Speaker
throughout pullings and readings with our tarot cards. The term arcana means secret, and it's like the major arcana symbolizes life's great mysteries or life's secrets. These cards represent higher spiritual forces at work within our everyday lives, and they can be considered indicators of fate, destiny, karma, or dharma at work.
00:10:08
Speaker
The major arcana is said to be the most impactful cards within your deck. It shows the bigger picture, the long-term direction or situations that you may be experiencing or that you will be experiencing. When a major arcana card comes up in your readings, that is usually a sign that something especially significant is at play in your life for better or for worse.
00:10:30
Speaker
So there are 22 cards in the Major Arcana and in the ancient study of numerology, 22 is considered a master number that resonates on the higher plane, as well as the physical one. And it represents the master builder who can harness cosmic forces and use them to shape the material world as
00:10:49
Speaker
the number of transformation.

Analyzing Key Tarot Cards: The Fool to The Emperor

00:10:52
Speaker
Additionally, researchers have linked the 22 cards in the major arcana to the 22 letters in the Hebrew alphabet, which I thought was kind of cool. This connection is mostly seen with Thoth tarot.
00:11:04
Speaker
And then Kisma K. Stepanik, I think, I could be butchering that and if I am, I'm sorry, said, the beauty and richness of each card reflects clarity and wisdom. Each image and symbol has a message designed to empower us spiritually and make every day and special life decisions easier. And this is from Fairy Wiccatero. I just thought it was really cute.
00:11:31
Speaker
I really like that. So let's dive in to these cards. Yes. Okay. So the first card, you'll usually see this with the number of zero. This card is the full and it is known as the intuition card. And just as Tiffany had mentioned already, this can be seen as your guide through the 78 cards as a whole. As we advanced through the major arcana, it's said to be,
00:11:58
Speaker
quote unquote, the fool's journey. So ahead lies all potential, whether that be highs or lows, the full experiences it all in due time. This card is considered the ultimate new beginning card. All things are possible. Usually it's representative of interchange, a new challenge or unexpected opportunity. And it's challenging you to take a leap, be spontaneous to lighten up. So.
00:12:24
Speaker
Like if you see this in your reading, that's what can be expected of you. So if you see this card in reverse, the fool acts impulsively and immaturely. So if this is showing in reverse, it might mean that some of your actions might be indicative of chaos. It could also mean a lack of direction or having poor judgment in some decisions that you're making.
00:12:47
Speaker
And I'm just going to preface this with the cards that I talk about. I cut out the reversals because I had way too much information. And again, we would have been here for 70 hours. So I do give a little more specifics in your pools, but look up your reversals and honestly look up any information that you feel you might need because we cannot give it all in this episode. We really can't. And then I feel like too with reversals, like you can even just see keywords on Google. Yeah.
00:13:17
Speaker
It's crazy. I've seen too that a good portion of people don't even read reversals. They just read it as upright. So again, this is just kind of going back to doing what feels right to you, using your own intuition, whether you read reversals or not. So as we say in almost every episode, do your own research as well. Don't just take everything that we say as the end all be all because it is definitely not
00:13:43
Speaker
And we are doing the cards in order, so if we forget to say the number, it's the next number.
00:13:50
Speaker
I have a feeling I'm going to forget a number. So the first card, or I guess it's the second card, but number one is the magician. Keywords for this card are hidden power, magical ability, mastering unseen forces and inner guidance. The magician is seen as a powerful and wise figure representing the ability to understand and command the unseen forces of the universe.
00:14:15
Speaker
Oftentimes, this card is shown as a male figure standing alone with a wand, a chalice, a pentagram, and a thame. And these are the four suits of the minor arcana as well. The appearance of the magician indicates that you should be using your intellect, your intuition, talents, and practical skills to help manifest your intentions. This card is about dropping our focus from the material world and getting more in tune with the unseen world.
00:14:43
Speaker
When asking in terms of specifics, if you're talking about money or asking about money, this card tells you to tap into the universal flow to attract abundance and generate wealth as well as take control of financial matters. In terms of career, this card encourages us to use both spiritual and physical resources correctly and to take charge and master your circumstances around you. It suggests that you should trust yourself and your inner guidance.
00:15:10
Speaker
In terms of love and relationships, it can represent a relationship that contains a strong spiritual or magical element. It might suggest that you and your partner are on the same spiritual path together, both encouraging and inspiring each other. And for the High Priestess, which is card number two in the Major Arcana,
00:15:30
Speaker
slash card number three. I mean, it's two on the damn card, but it's the third card we're talking about. Anyway, so the high priestess, the keywords here are basically it's a doing your own thing, being you card. And I love this card. So basically this card asks ourselves what we really want from our lives and tells us to make time to reconnect with your inner self and your private dreams.
00:15:59
Speaker
When this card comes up, it's asking us to basically value yourself and your own company. You have the power within you. It is the most feminist card within the tarot deck and it belongs to the moon and all it represents.
00:16:14
Speaker
It represents magic, the unknown and power, and it has links to the underworld. And if you have, um, I mean, some cards, the illustrations are a little bit different, but if you have the Rider Waite Smith deck, Persephone is, um, kind of linked with this card because if you notice in the background,
00:16:34
Speaker
of the high priestess, you see pomegranates. And that's kind of a nod to Persephone is what some people say, which I think is really cool. She is also the keeper of the tarot and keeper of its mysteries. She represents solitary practice. So the witch without a coven, she rules dreams. And when she comes up in readings, know that you don't have all of the information yet, more will be revealed.
00:16:58
Speaker
So use this time to study so you can be more potent and wise, sit quietly with crystals and write, keep a dream journal. And if you draw the high priestess when you're hoping for guidance on the decision, the decision is no decision right now. So if you see this card come up in reverse, this card could reflect a lack of personal harmony, secrets, or withheld information.
00:17:24
Speaker
Next is three, which is the Empress. Keywords for this card are creativity, feminine power, mature women, fertility, and pleasure. This card symbolizes feminine power in the material world. And the Empress is depicted as a universal mother who governs procreation, nurturing the security and comforts of home, and domestic harmony, beauty, and creativity.
00:17:51
Speaker
She is shown as a mature female figure, often seated on a throne, sometimes in nature, surrounded by flowers representing fruitfulness. She is linked to Venus, the goddess of love, beauty, and pleasure. And when asking in terms of specifics, if this card comes up in questions about money, it indicates good fortune and success.
00:18:13
Speaker
So you would possess abundant resources and know how to use them productively. In career, it suggests that your success is likely due to you giving your all and your creativity. It suggests that you take charge and work toward a common goal, finding harmony.
00:18:30
Speaker
With love and relationships, it could symbolize a mature loving relationship based on mutual respect, trust, and affection. It also indicates a powerful sexual connection, but can also refer to pregnancy or the desire for pregnancy. The fourth card is known as the Emperor, and this relates back to power and achievement.
00:18:50
Speaker
This is the card of fatherhood, determination and earthly success. He can signify a lot of different things. So it could be like maybe an older relative who influences you. It could also insinuate a powerful or successful love partner or an authority figure of either sex.
00:19:10
Speaker
You can also represent logic and that knowing that logic is your best tool. So when this card comes up, it basically is telling you to avoid passive aggressiveness and get straight to the heart of the matter with direct communication. So it can also represent sticking to your boundaries. It's not your job to worry about other people's feelings and you need to protect your own interest and those of the people closest to you. So the message here is that you can achieve your goals if you act more assertive than usual.
00:19:39
Speaker
So maybe you need to be more forceful than usual to avoid being overlooked or not given your full due credit. Maybe it's pushing you to stick up for yourself, or it could mean that you need to spend more time with your father, grandfather, or an authority figure, like I mentioned earlier. So it could mean a couple of different things. But if you pulled this card in reference to a question about a romantic relationship, this could mean that your union is unbalanced.

Exploration of Relationship and Inner Conflict Cards

00:20:07
Speaker
So maybe you or your partner are suffering from depression, or one of you is having a hard time opening up and discussing your emotions. Maybe it's a nod that you need to be seeking some professional help through therapy. This could be that indication if you draw this card. And if this card comes up in reverse in a reading, it can mean immaturity, lack of authority, lack of discipline, manipulative or controlling friends or people in your life.
00:20:35
Speaker
Just be on the lookout there because there's a lot of things with this card. And every card. That is true. Yeah.
00:20:44
Speaker
Next is five, which is the hierophant. Keywords are spiritual authority, leadership, tradition, and institutions. The hierophant is a figure of authority and power, and the power is of a spiritual nature. This card is often depicted with a religious leader or with some decks referring to him as the pope. This figure is often seen seated on a throne, dressed in priestly robes, crowned, and holding a scepter.
00:21:11
Speaker
In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, there's acolytes shown standing before them, deferring to his wisdom as a representative of religious authority, though it can also be seen as a philosopher-slash-philosophy versus religion. This card can indicate that you are attempting to break away from religious influences. In a broader sense, it can refer to any organized institution that exerts authority over its followers.
00:21:39
Speaker
So when you're asking specific questions and this card comes up, in terms of money, it could mean that you could profit from allying yourself with an established group. This card also sometimes suggests paying more attention to spiritual considerations instead of being so focused on material matters. With career, it indicates that you must follow the rules if you want to succeed.
00:22:03
Speaker
And with love and relationship, it may signify a relationship based on traditions, structure, or a spiritual path. It could be possible that your relationship supports your goals as well.
00:22:14
Speaker
And speaking of relationships, the number six card is the lovers, which is all about love and relationships. This card, when pulled, can indicate a twin soul if you are in a committed relationship or have met someone who feels as if you have
00:22:35
Speaker
or if you have met someone who feels as if you have known him or her all your life. So if you're in an existing relationship, the love between you when this is pulled and say you're questioning your commitment, it can indicate that the love is real and lasting.
00:22:52
Speaker
If pulled when questioning between two people, the answer is usually to pick the person who stirs your heart. And if pulled when you're unattached, this could indicate that love is coming soon. So in a relationship, it can also mean that your relationship needs more attention or rekindling.
00:23:12
Speaker
It can also be indicative of a new stage in your relationship, say if like you're ready to commit to that next level, whether that be marriage or children or whatnot. So the lovers wants us to have standards. It doesn't want us to settle. So just keep that in mind if you do pull this card. And if you pull it in reverse, it can indicate infidelity, relationship issues, or separation.
00:23:35
Speaker
Seven is the chariot. Keywords would be controlling opposing forces, willpower, resolving conflict, and travel. It's often depicted as a strong male figure holding the reins of two horses or sphinx-like creatures. Sometimes one is black and one's white, signifying those opposing forces. And sometimes those are unicorns or other mythical creatures like a Pegasus or a Griffin. In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, the charioteer is armored and carries a scepter.
00:24:04
Speaker
In some decks he doesn't even hold the reins but steers the chariot with willpower showing the master of opposing forces and control over inner conflicts. If you can hear my dogs barking the Amazon man just came to the door and even though he's already back in his van they are now starting to bark so. Of course, yeah.
00:24:23
Speaker
This card literally relates to travel and transportation, and when asking in terms of specifics like money, it's saying don't rush things. Guide the situation, using your willpower and mastery to bring a financial matter to successful conclusion.
00:24:41
Speaker
In terms of career, it reminds you that to succeed you need self-mastery. You're holding things together successfully, uniting opposing forces to stay on track, but you might have to make frequent adjustments to continue on the right path. In terms of love and relationships, spend time in self-development rather than chasing after love. It might not be the right time to start a relationship. If you are already in a relationship, take control of conflicting feelings and bring harmony to your relationship.
00:25:09
Speaker
So card number eight is strength. And this is all about overcoming obstacles. This card is good for reminding yourself that you have the ability to achieve your goal and overcome obstacles in your way. So it can refer to your untapped strengths and talents. It might indicate a tough road to get there, but you have the resources to make it. It could also indicate that you need to be more patient to persevere in situations. So
00:25:35
Speaker
This card can be about not letting others get in the way and dissuade you from your goals. The lion in this card is seen as our wild side. As you can see, the lion is being tamed. The lion is indicative of the sensitive beast of our heart. When this card comes up, it can indicate that your native passions may have spun a little bit out of control and it calls us to collaborate with our wild side.
00:26:03
Speaker
to tame it in a non-judgmental way because that lion is still us. And if you see this card in reverse, it can mean lack of self-control, lacking courage, or it could be indicative of self-doubt or vanity.
00:26:18
Speaker
Number nine is the hermit. Keywords for this card are guidance, solitude, inner wisdom, and self-evaluation. This card is often depicted as a bearded old man holding a lantern, like holding it out from his body. Sometimes he looks like a monk dressed in plain robes, and often he's facing away or towards the future, like he'll be facing where you can see him, but it'll be like a side profile sometimes.
00:26:45
Speaker
The hermit is a seeker of truth and he lights the way ahead for those who follow. He radiates wisdom and functions as a teacher and a guide. This card can indicate that a guide is trying to help you and encourages you to begin your own research for truth. The guide can be a person, like a literal person, like a counselor or a therapist, but it usually refers to your inner guidance or your spirit guides.
00:27:10
Speaker
When asking in terms of money, it's possibly encouraging you to seek counsel from someone more experienced than yourself. It can also represent turning away from material things and following your spiritual path.
00:27:22
Speaker
In terms of career, it could be an indication of needing a break, maybe taking vacation time to pull away from the day to day and seek solitude, wisdom and inner peace. It can also mean leaving a job that you're unhappy at and going down a different path or going into something more independent. With love and relationships, it might reflect the need for some alone time to discover yourself and your path in life. It can also indicate that you need more independence or self-reliance within a relationship.
00:27:51
Speaker
Card number 10 is known as the wheel of fortune or the making your own fortune card. Usually this appears after a run of bad luck where opportunities haven't quite materialized and it heralds an upturn of fortune, often financial. So while it indicates unexpected good luck, it is important to understand that it means you make your own fortune and it can mean to take a chance. So change
00:28:18
Speaker
is the only thing you can rely on. And this card speaks to that. And no matter where you are stuck at in the present, this card promises that changes are headed your way, so to get ready for the bigger and the better. And this card is a card that I thought it was important to dig into the esoteric symbolism in the card itself. The wheel is etched with the alchemical tags for sulfur, salt, mercury, and water. The chemical elements that correspond to the four suits of the tarot deck
00:28:48
Speaker
AKA the wands, pentacles, swords, and cups, which we'll discuss in detail in our next episode. So don't worry about that. The corners of the card contain the emissaries of the elements in the form of zodiac signs, which I thought this was interesting because I didn't know this until I was researching this card. But it includes the Aquarian water bearer, this scorpionic eagle, which has evolved from the snake and the scorpion, the Leo's lion, and the bovine representing Taurus.
00:29:17
Speaker
Each sign is the thick sign of the element, meaning that they are the most stable. What we can deduce from the symbolism in the card is that stability is change, and this knowledge keeps you rooted, no matter what life throws at you. Also on the card, to the left of the wheel you see the Typhon, which is a murderous monster-begetting monster.
00:29:39
Speaker
And he's currently within his downward spiral off the side of the card. And on the opposite of Typhon, we see the Egyptian God Anubis, which is a half-jackal, half-human protector of the dead and gator of the souls. And on the very top of the wheel, you see the blue sphinx.
00:29:56
Speaker
And this is indicative of her being at the top of her game. She's building a sword. And this is usually a symbol of a sharp mind. And this symbol of the sphinx symbolizes you. So the whole meaning here is that everything changes. It's a promise that your time at the top of the wheel is coming and to just take it in stride.
00:30:18
Speaker
And if you see this card in reverse, it usually means bad luck, misfortune, mishaps, or setbacks. But just know if you do get this card and reverse the wheel is, I mean, that's the changes. So your time at the top will come if you get this in reverse, just know.

Transformation, Balance, and Liberation Themes

00:30:37
Speaker
So 11 is justice. Keywords are rectification, decision, finding balance, and legal matters.
00:30:45
Speaker
This card often depicts a female figure in a robe and crown, occasionally in armor and holding a sword in one hand that symbolizes the element air and the mind. And she also has a set of scales in her other hand. Some decks show her nude with her arms outstretched in a balanced position or standing between her set of scales while holding a smaller set in her hands.
00:31:08
Speaker
This suggests that divine justice is at work rather than the laws of humankind. It can represent an actual legal matter or someone who works in the judicial system too. And when you're asking in terms of money and this card comes up, it can symbolize a legal matter in which property is divided equitably or a fair financial settlement is being reached. It can also mean sharing wealth or earning money through honest means.
00:31:37
Speaker
In terms of career, it can mean reaching an amicable agreement or signing a contract. It can also represent a time of cooperation and harmony, or a time when problems can be resolved. So when this card comes up in a pool for career, it means to seek equitable division of labor, responsibilities, and rewards.
00:31:59
Speaker
In terms of love and relationship, it advises you to seek balance and fairness in a relationship and create an equitable situation. It can also indicate marriage, like a contractual agreement or legal arrangement. So for card number 12, this card is the hanged man, and it is known as the letting go card.
00:32:23
Speaker
This card represents letting go of fears and releasing all restrictions that stand in the way of us surrendering ourselves to love or life in general. It shows us that we need to let go of relationships that don't serve us. And this can include joining careers or emotional vampires if you have any of those in your lives. It can also be indicative of bad behaviors, habits, phobias, or addictions.
00:32:48
Speaker
This card represents situations in which you knowingly put yourself in discomfort or pain for a new and improved reality that is just waiting for you. So this card can also be like that as a sacrifice card, examples of which can be anything related to school or scholarship or pregnancy or anything that requires your resolve from the world for your own personal growth or for your own personal good. The hangman also rules meditation.
00:33:17
Speaker
And when this card shows up, it means that retreat is recommended. So this could be in the form of sacrifice, like I'd mentioned, so giving something up. It can mean that it's the time for relaxation into the discomfort and allowing yourself to be uncomfortable. It could also mean not dwelling on what is lost, but looking at what is ahead.
00:33:38
Speaker
The heart of this card is to surrender and let go. When this card comes up, it is a sign that things are in motion, even when they feel like they are not moving. Now is not the time for activity. It's the time to drop the ego, let it pass and surrender. And if you see this card in reverse, it could mean a missed opportunity or like maybe an inability to change, or it could relate back to your own ego itself and reminding you that it's time to let it go.
00:34:08
Speaker
So card 13, I feel like this is like not controversial. That's not the word that I'm looking for, but it's a card that has like scary undertones to it. It's like the most infamous one. Yeah. Every time like it, when you see tarot and media and like TV shows and movies and stuff, they'll always like draw the death card and it'll be like, Oh my God, someone's going to die. And that's not what it means. So number 13 is death.
00:34:33
Speaker
Keywords for this card are transformation, metamorphosis, an ending, a sacrifice, loss, and or a rebirth. This card symbolizes a transformation is at work and rarely is a depiction of actual physical death even though that's how it's like portrayed every time every time you see it. It's like oh god someone's gonna die or you are gonna die and it's that's not what it means.
00:34:57
Speaker
It can, it can symbolize actual death or loss that's led you to a transformation though, but very rarely does this card actually deal with like life and death.
00:35:09
Speaker
Sometimes this card is depicted as a grim reaper or skeleton with a scythe and he's always grinning like he has this wide toothy smile and wearing a black hooded robe. In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, it shows a skeleton in black armor riding a white horse, suggesting the ongoing cycle of life and death.
00:35:29
Speaker
Some decks show a desolate landscape too that are like covered with severed body parts lying around so that's probably like why it gets this like creepy scary connotation like sent to it like put to it but it's not like everything is symbolism in these cards.
00:35:50
Speaker
In terms of asking specifics like for money, it might be saying to let go of old attitudes about money or change the way that you've handled resources in the past. It can also represent the end of one financial endeavor and the start of a new one. In terms of career, it could symbolize a transition in your career path, a job change or a major shift in your area of work, making room for new growth.
00:36:16
Speaker
With love and relationships, it can show that old patterns are not effective and you need to change. Possibly in how you and your partner interact with each other, it could also refer to the end of an unsatisfactory relationship. So even though it's death and it's always portrayed as scary, this card is more about transforming.
00:36:39
Speaker
Card number 14 is the Temperance card and it is known as the Finding the Balance card. This card symbolizes balance, harmony, both within you and around you. Health-wise, this can indicate a continuation or return of good health.
00:36:56
Speaker
and it can relate to any medical treatment you're concerned about or that you're worried about, that the results that will come from it will be the results that you've hoped for. So when this card comes up in a reading regarding a question of action,
00:37:12
Speaker
It's really telling you to steer a middle course and avoid excesses. So it's harking back to peacemaking and negotiation as the way forward. This card indicates that you need to slow down, be neutral and seek balance. This card also calls for acceptance of what can't be changed and letting go of any resentment that you might have regarding a situation or a person or anything related to what you could be asking when you draw this card.
00:37:42
Speaker
As far as symbolism goes, this is another card that I've kind of included a little bit about it, but this is just basics. We could go into so much more on symbolism for even just this card. This card is of an angel. Sometimes the angels referred to as the Archangel Michael.
00:37:57
Speaker
Some refer to it as the angel, some refer to the angel as Iris, or it could also be indicative of hermaphroditis, which is the child of Mercury and Aphrodite. The angel's robe contains a triangle within a square which symbolizes feminine energies that are protected. The sun is shining in multiple forms. It's shining in the background and from the angel's third eye. And this symbolizes that a new day has dawned. So embrace the positivity of this card.
00:38:26
Speaker
And as you can see in the card, at least in the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, one foot is on the ground and the other is in the water, indicating a perfect balance. And if you get this card in reverse, I mean, it's just kind of the opposite of what I said. It's basically telling you that you can expect disharmony, illness, lack of patience, or just imbalance in general.
00:38:50
Speaker
Number 15 is the devil. Keywords for this card are obsession, indulgence, fear, materialism, and egotism. This card often shows a medieval Christian-style devil, complete with horns, hooves, a tail, and a pitchfork. In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, it shows two small humanistic figures at the devil's feet. One is male, the other is female, with chains around their necks that represent bondage to the material realm.
00:39:20
Speaker
And since the chains are loose enough that they could actually slip free of them if they wanted to, it suggests that there's a self-imposed limitation. This card is also sometimes simply referred to as the obsession card. When reading in terms of money, it can advise you to confront fears about financial security, social status, and material success. So think the term selling your soul to the devil for profit.
00:39:48
Speaker
In career, it may indicate that you are chained to your job and are neglecting other areas of your life. It warns against engaging in questionable practices to get ahead. With love and relationships, this card advises you to stop and evaluate the relationship. Is this relationship harmful, abusive, or obsessive? Sexual desires may cause you to overlook character flaws and self-inflicted bondage may be stopping you from moving forward.
00:40:17
Speaker
So card 16 is the tower and it's pretty infamous and pretty much any tarot group that you're in, people will be talking about this card. This card is the liberation or the rebuilding better than before card. Traditionally, this is called the Tower of Destruction and it's a sign that freedom from constraints
00:40:38
Speaker
in your life is coming. So this refers to an event that is either happening at the time of the reading or one that you know is necessary to clear restrictions and stagnation in your life. It refers to the clearing of actual obstacles in your way that are holding you back from fulfilling your potential
00:40:56
Speaker
or your happiness. It can also be indicative of a temporary debt problem that may soon be erased, and if you're feeling trapped, whether that be in your job or a relationship, etc., it means that there's going to be a breakthrough soon.
00:41:13
Speaker
the tower is a bringer of sudden change. And it's the kind of change that you should have seen coming, but maybe you didn't. And so it appears like it's coming out of nowhere. This card has long been feared by a lot of people who practice tarot. But the only fear or pain that comes from this card is from how tightly you cling to the tower that is crumbling down around you. So this might be in the form of denial or resistance of that change that is needed.
00:41:41
Speaker
The Tower is indicative of a revelation. A true paradigm shifting clarity and understanding it harkens nothing but change based on this revelation. So when the Tower falls, what is left is a path toward a way of life that is much more in accordance with your heart and mind
00:42:00
Speaker
and you living into your true self and your authentic self. So what comes down in the tower around you are the things that do not serve you any longer. Allow the tower to humble you. The universe is pushing you in a dramatic way into the path you need to be in.
00:42:16
Speaker
So if you see this card come up and reversed, it can harken illness, loss, or a volatile situation that you might need to pay more attention to. But outside of that, this card should not be feared.
00:42:34
Speaker
17 is the star. Keywords for this card would be happiness, hope, a light at the end of the tunnel, or good fortune. This card often shows a nude female figure in or next to a pool of water with stars in the background or sometimes the stars are also just a halo around her head. Some decks show her pouring water from two jugs or two chalices.
00:42:57
Speaker
In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, she's depicted pouring the contents of one pitcher into the stream and the other onto the ground, showing that there's a connection between the two feminine elements of water and earth. She represents truth and purity while the jugs contain the waters of life.
00:43:15
Speaker
Shooting stars are often seen as good luck and they're wished on. The star is a universal sign of hope. This card represents a time of fulfillment, good fortune, and creative inspiration and spiritual growth. When this card comes up when you're asking about money, it signals an improvement in your financial positions, so remain hopeful and you can achieve financial abundance.
00:43:40
Speaker
With career, it means that success lies just around the corner. You might be moving into the spotlight and getting deserved recognition. With love and relationships, it represents a bright, beautiful relationship that inspires you and brings you happiness.
00:43:56
Speaker
It's a precious card. It sounds super precious. I love it.

Hope, Duality, and Fulfillment in Tarot

00:44:00
Speaker
So card number 18 is the moon. This card, I feel like a keyword is the duality card. Um, it's also known as the moving to the next phase of your life slash weariness card. So this card.
00:44:18
Speaker
It really is just telling you to be aware of the easy options and be aware of the shortcuts. It represents both confusion and intuition, which is what I meant by the duality part of it. So it may be in relation to finances, romances, et cetera, but essentially be aware of illusions and people who promise the moon but are caught up in their own fantasy world.
00:44:41
Speaker
It may represent fear of the unknown. So there's probably some element in your life that you can't get a grip on and more needs to be revealed to curb your fear. The moon itself just requires patience and trust. And for women, this card can mean
00:44:58
Speaker
a natural move to the next phase of your life, whether this be childhood, spirituality, clairvoyance, and it can be an excellent fertility card if you are a vulva uterus owning person. So when the moon comes up,
00:45:14
Speaker
It is not the time to commit yourself to anything or anyone until you have more information. Trust that more information is coming. Trust your intuition. Keep doing spells. And maybe start a dream journal if this card keeps coming up for you. If you see this card in reverse, this could be a sign of insomnia. Maybe there's mysteries that need to be unveiled.
00:45:39
Speaker
It could relate back to any unusual dreams that you're having unhappiness, and it could basically tell you that you need to release your fear.
00:45:50
Speaker
19 is the sun. Keywords are happiness, success, pleasure, self-expression, clarity, and vitality. This card shows a bright sun that occasionally has a face with sun beams coming out from it. And below, there's often a smiling nude figure on a horse. Sometimes the figure is also a child.
00:46:10
Speaker
Some decks show two children with their arms around each other, and other decks have a young couple holding hands. The Sun rules the Zodiac sign Leo, which astrologers have linked with children, pleasure, and creativity. This card represents life because the Sun gives life to everything on Earth. It's considered one of the happiest cards within the Tarot, and it signifies vitality, confidence, achievement, attainment, and success in all endeavors.
00:46:38
Speaker
When asking about money, it's possible that investments and business ventures will pay off and you will have the opportunities abound. It could also mean that you will benefit financially from creative endeavors. In terms of career, it marks a period of prosperity, enthusiasm, honor, and public recognition and attainment. So I think it's your time to shine.
00:47:03
Speaker
In love and relationships, it represents a happy, pleasurable relationship where you can feel content and comfortable. You inspire each other and enjoy being together. It can herald a bright and beautiful romance. Card number 20 is the Judgment card, and this is known as the Rebirth and Regeneration card. And this is all about making your own assessment of a person or a situation.
00:47:27
Speaker
If conflicting opinions or judgmental people are causing you to doubt yourself, know that they are just trying to control you. And so this card can kind of warn you of that if it comes up in your readings. This card can come up when a course of action you've undertook has not worked out and you need to start again. When this card comes up, it's telling you not to take what you've been told as a fact.
00:47:50
Speaker
especially if it's based in gossip or rumor. This card is deeply reflective and it's calling you to take a deeper look in the mirror and to call yourself out on your own bullshit. So it's a cause and effect card. When we sow the seeds of love, that is what we reap. Likewise, when we sow hate, hate is what we reap. So this card calls us to live our own best selves. So when this card comes up, it's asking us to do what we do best. What we need
00:48:20
Speaker
Oh no, it's asking us what we can do better and what we need to change or shift in our lives so that we can be the best versions of ourselves. And if you see this card come up reversed, that usually indicates poor logic, self-doubt, hasty or poor judgment or stagnation in your current life.
00:48:41
Speaker
Card 21 is the world. Keywords for this card would be fulfillment, completion, achievement, mastery, and wholeness. This card represents the end of the Fool's Journey, completing a journey of awakening and reaching the destination.
00:48:56
Speaker
It often depicts a young woman, sometimes nude, holding a double-ended wand that points both upward and downward in like the term of as above, so below. There are four figures, one in each corner, that signify the four elements. In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, it shows the woman dancing and encircled by a wreath, signifying victory and a symbol for infinity.
00:49:24
Speaker
The world represents fulfillment and that all is right, indicating achievement, balance, and wholeness, and the completion of the journey from innocence to enlightenment. When you're asking in terms of money, you reap the rewards that you deserve. It's now a time of fulfillment and abundance, and you know you will have all that you need. With career, it means that you will succeed because you have learned what you needed to learn and you are now in harmony with the universe.
00:49:55
Speaker
With love and relationships, it represents a mature and fulfilling relationship. You've overcome egos, fears, and insecurities and can now enjoy partnerships that are rewarding.
00:50:08
Speaker
All right. Well, that's it. That's all 22 of the major Arcana cards. You know, as we said before, this isn't everything by a long shot. Not at all. Yeah. There was, I'm, when I'm saying I cut out information, I mean, my notes, I think as were, were eight pages. And before that, I think I was at like 12 pages before I was like, we can't do this. Right. Yeah. It's just, there's so much information.
00:50:38
Speaker
for Tarot, for just this portion of Tarot, and honestly, like we said earlier, for each and every card. Yeah, so this episode was really a taster of the Major Arcana, but we hope that even though it was a taster, that it gave you somewhat of a deeper understanding of each card within the deck itself, just within the Major Arcana. And then, just know, like,
00:51:03
Speaker
Obviously nobody's an expert on this. These are our interpretations. These are interpretations that we've researched. So if you interpret a card differently than what we've talked about, we'd love to hear what your interpretation is, what your intuition speaks to you whenever you see this card come up and just be on the lookout for our next episode because it's going to be awesome too. And we're going to keep going with this series.
00:51:26
Speaker
And like Sam said earlier, when you're pulling cards for yourself or for somebody else, try to interpret the card before you go to the book and look at what the meaning is because sometimes your intuition is going to be spot on for what you're asking. So do that first before you go and look up the meaning of the card.
