00:00:24
Speaker
What the fuck did you just say? I said hit it, Fergie. What? I don't know. All the time I turn around for the show. Look at my... I couldn't commit. I couldn't commit. I don't know the full thing. I don't know shit about Fergie. All the time I turn around, brothers gathering around, always... Oh fuck. I can't remember now. I knew it the other day.
00:00:49
Speaker
This song was playing, where was I? Oh, I was at a bar the other night when I went to go get dinner, right? And I started playing, and I was just, it was like empty, so no one was in there. But like, me and the bartender. And the song started playing, so I just kind of looked at my feet while my drink was being made, trying not to like, get in through it. Oh, it's all the time I turn around, brothers gather around, always, always looking at me up and down. Looking at my aunt? Yeah, that's what it is.
00:01:17
Speaker
No drama little mama, I don't wanna take a man. Dude, it's like nine year old me got it. I remember being at a friend's house on her tiny little boom box and we had like the Fergie DVD or DVD, the Fergie CD and would just blast it and dance. Why would her mom let us do that? I have no idea. It don't matter. Amen to that. That's all you gotta say. A fucking man, brother.
00:01:42
Speaker
Amen. It was like that in Brass Monkey. Brass Monkey. Do you remember that song? Yeah, I do. I love that song. Of course I do. Damn. All right. Welcome back to the sleepover. We started with fun tunes from my childhood sleepovers. It's the first sleepover of 2022, of volume two. That's exciting. I am Nebula, and I have a lovely co-host who's beautiful and I love with all my heart. Do you want to introduce yourself?
00:02:13
Speaker
I was kind of holding on to the impulsive thought to just kind of like in response. So like actually say my name. I kind of wanted to just like make a chicken noise out of it, but I couldn't summon that sound from me. I'm sorry. Um, I'm parked some parks, I'm bark, some snarks, sparks, whatever variation of my name that I've been called this week. I don't know. We'll figure it out.
00:02:36
Speaker
You go by whatever. It's funny that you made that noise because Woopa and I do that to each other all the time. We'll just walk around the house and we make eye contact across the room. We'll just go. It's really cute.
00:02:49
Speaker
I've been really annoying about it lately. I don't know why. I've been stimming pretty bad, like verbally. And so I'll just be chilling and just like... You're like, why? Like, I don't know. I love it. I love you.

Doja Cat Discussion

00:03:02
Speaker
I love you. You make me smile and your stims crack me up all the time. I'm so glad. Um, unless it's the just have a game to it. Yeah. And then I'm like, what's wrong with Doja? Tell me what's wrong with Doja Cat. I just don't like that song. Tell me what's wrong with Doja.
00:03:19
Speaker
Break it down, break it down for me. What's wrong with Doja? You don't like the Doja? Doja don't fuck with you? You seen that video where she like body rolls like a wave and like pops her hip up on stage? Yeah. Oh my god. I love you. I punched my mom. Are you free on Thursday, Doja?
00:03:37
Speaker
Doja, I have nothing going on February 14th, Doja. I repeat, February 14th, I have nothing going on. If you happen to be free February 14th, I'm also free February 14th of this year, 2022. If you want to meet up on February 14th, Doja Cat, I'm free. I promise I am free. February 14th, 2022. That day I am free. That day I am free. Damn. Wait.
00:04:05
Speaker
Okay, that was not as big as I was anticipating, but don't stare at me like that. I hate when you stare at me like that. Oh my god. Oh my god, bro. Punch my mama. No. God, no. I'm not gonna punch your mom. She's a very nice lady. Hit it, Fergie. Um, so... So... Yeah? You gonna take the reins? You can do it? No, I had a burp. Okay. Um...

Personal Challenges and Life Changes

00:04:36
Speaker
Our official intro is done so I can say whatever I want now. I mean, yeah, that's how the show works. How do I always do this? We've been, because of the holidays and just busy life shit in general, everyone who's been kind of in our servers is aware of all the life changes that's occurring for both you and I.
00:04:56
Speaker
whatever blah blah blah blah blah so we've been gone for a minute because of that and the holidays and it kind of sucks on us my bad whatever but it's been a minute since we've recorded so I swear to god the last four episodes we start recording sir I don't know who I am or where I am anymore where are we yeah it's
00:05:18
Speaker
Ugh, it's been hell the past eight, 10 weeks, I guess, for us. Yeah, almost there. I dealt with the trauma anniversary, yay. I had lost another family member, cool. Had to go to another funeral, which was like the third one in a year or some bullshit that I had to go to. You had to deal with a bunch of seasonal depression stuff and personal changes. Lots of major life changes on my part. Lots of work, yep.
00:05:47
Speaker
Lots of introspective, retrospective bullshit. Tearing myself apart from the inside out, the usual. I got a gym membership now though. I was thinking I may be hitting the gym after this. I don't know. I've been eating more vegetables. Oh my god. I've been tracking my exercise, so I'm trying. We're trying to do better. I've been eating more salads because I just, there's something comforting about like a salad, you know? Just lettuce. It's crunchy.
00:06:17
Speaker
Spinach. I need a whole bag of spinach. I would eat a whole bag of spinach. My favorite thing to do is just make like a lemon vinaigrette, which isn't really like a real vinaigrette. It's just lemon juice, vinegar, and some olive oil and salt and pepper just dumping it on spinach. Mmm, baby. Maybe I'll go to the gym after this and then go and get a spinach salad for dinner. And then you can come play Dead by Daylight with me.
00:06:41
Speaker
Pogging, but I'd have to finish whatever, whatever I finish this and can go to the gym. Or no, I think the gym closes, hold on. Let me, sorry podcast, you come second.
00:06:52
Speaker
Um, before recording like 20 minutes ago, my sister texted me and she said, Hey, if you're in town, I have some vegetable soup I'd love to, to give you and you can take it home. And I was like, Oh my God, I love you. That's so nice. I would absolutely take your vegetable soup, but I am not in town. So, uh, do you want to, you want to give a sister a recipe? And she sent it to me and I have never felt more betrayed. This is the woman that has slammed multiple fingers in doors of mine.
00:07:17
Speaker
She has kicked me out several times whenever she was pissed at me. She stole shit from my closet. I've never been more heartbroken than when she sent me this recipe because it had fucking cabbage in it.
00:07:29
Speaker
I hate cabbage. Cabbage is so good. It's so disgusting. When we went to get hot pot and everyone hated me for it, the broth got way too hot because me and Zoe dumped our sauce containers into it and no one could fucking stomach it anymore. We were just eating so many noodles that we were all carb loaded and wanted to die. And at one point I just ordered from the fucking, like, because they, you know, it's all you can eat, vegetables and meat, right?
00:07:55
Speaker
So from the iPad, I ordered like three bowls of just cabbage. And me and Zoe are crying and just eating raw cabbage leaves to try to cope. That is horrible, but somehow not unexpected. What does that mean? Just let me know. Just the way that you two are, whatever you exist in the same room together. It's like you feed off each other's cake. We do crack together.
00:08:28
Speaker
You good? The gym closes at 4. The gym closes at 4. 20 minutes. No, it's okay. It's nothing. No big deal. I should have gone earlier today. I can send you the stuff that I do at home that you can do at home on the floor of your bedroom.
00:08:44
Speaker
Yeah. It's good stuff. It's good for your core. Yes, I've been in your room. I've laid down in that exact space. No, I mean, there's boxes right here that are making this space smaller. All right, then pick them up. Whore. They're full of liquor. Okay, put them on the bed for 10 minutes. Okay.
00:09:05
Speaker
I love you. Oh my god. I love you too. Let's do our show. Let's do our show for real. I mean, we've been talking. We introduced the show. We're talking. Let's talk more. We are going to talk about cosplay this

Cosplay Projects and Plans

00:09:21
Speaker
week. Yes. Just some fun stuff, some like compare and contrast between a veteran cosplayer and a little baby cosplayer like me.
00:09:30
Speaker
I recently did a photo shoot last week for my third cosplay that I've completed in the past six months, which is exciting. And Parks has done like 72 cosplays in the past six months. So, you know. Not that many. Usually you're exaggerating grossly. Okay, but you have 45 planned for 2022. So that's a lot. And that's not an exaggeration. That's a fact.
00:10:02
Speaker
She's nodding at me. You've been doing a lot of con crunch stuff. What have you been working on? Right now, sorry, I was waiting for the prompt in. Right now, I'm working for...
00:10:17
Speaker
level up in February in Las Vegas. It's probably gonna be canceled because of COVID. If not, I'm gonna just M95 that whole bitch. I'm already prepping masks to fit every costume, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Normal, normal behavior. Only go to conventions if you feel it's safe. Use your personal judgment. Be fully vaccinated, please, and get negative tested before you go. Thank you. But for that, I've picked up seven commissions.
00:10:44
Speaker
as well as doing three costume changes on one day, or for two days, so six costumes total. And then one for my Sunday, which is just one. So for me, seven total costumes for myself that weekend. And then I'm making three full costumes for people.
00:11:10
Speaker
And then, so I'm making Phantom Thieves' Ryuji from Persona 5, from Scratch. I'm making the black robe with the red sash version of Zoro from One Piece as a full commission. And then I'm making stealth black Wano Sanji.
00:11:26
Speaker
and normal Wano Sanji. So okay, I guess I'm making, sorry, I forgot this one because I always keep forgetting this one. So I'm making four total garment, like huge garments, two Yukatas, or one Yukata, one full kimono, because they're different stylings. And then one is like a double-breasted coat, pants, cape. And then one of them is a leather jacket and pants.
00:11:48
Speaker
with a bunch of accessories. And then I'm making Frankie's gauntlets from one piece. So they're going to be like boxed and then we're going to do gloves. And so they're more lifelike rather than like Vi gauntlet type of thing. So I'm making Frankie's gauntlets. I'm making Queen's glasses. And then there's one more. Oh, and then I'm making the green sash for Zorro, just the sash piece.
00:12:13
Speaker
It would be really cute if you take all the scraps from the fabric and make fabric masks to go over the N95 to match each costume.
00:12:23
Speaker
Yeah, so I'm gonna do um Right now it's kind of I've been working kind of slowly. I haven't finished this jacket yet I got really high when I was working on it and I could not figure out how to sew these pockets They're really bad. Don't look at the pockets. Luckily. It's like no, it's not a key detail of the costume Someone's gonna see them cuz black on black, but damn, I don't know what happened
00:12:44
Speaker
So the jackets almost put too high. That's what happened. The front panels are done. I'm not lining it because I'm lazy, but the front panels are almost done. I just have to attach the back, the waistband, the sleeves and the zippers and the jacket is done.
00:12:58
Speaker
And then my friend is, so for Ryuji, it's a leather jacket, leather pants, knee pads, elbow pads, belt, mask. And then he has, cause all of the persona fits are kind of heavily inspired by one thing. His is kind of like a skeleton. So that's the skeleton mask, which I just need to process and paint black. And then he has like these scale like spine plates. So I'm gonna make those out of foam and just put magnets on and smack them to the back of the jacket.
00:13:27
Speaker
And then a red scarf, but that can be bought. So the red scarf, the knee pads, elbow pads, and the yellow gloves for that costume can all be bought. So that's almost done. I just have to finish a jacket and pants and then make the belt, but the belt is like a circle with like an icon in it. And then it has like shotgun shells coming off the side. So I just have some really thick, like elastic trim. I'm literally just going to use that and attach everything.
00:13:50
Speaker
to there and then whatever, add all the accessories. So other than that, that costume is really almost done. The Yukata, I have to do all the patterning because I had to get a paper pattern because the McCall's one I was using is completely out of print. So I have to cut all of that. And then for the most part, it's easy sewing. It's just a lot of pressing because it has all of the fine lines, the crisp lines and the interfacing.
00:14:14
Speaker
So that's going to take me like maybe a day or two to finish with all of the pressing and pattern cutting and all fabric cutting, blah, blah, blah. The sewing part is fast. It's just everything that leads up to it. And then you need to do like interfacing. Yeah, I have to do interfacing in the colors. Yeah. And then I have to hand sew on some buttons, but they're decorative. Decorative. So it doesn't matter. Decorative. Well, I was going to say decoration and then I stopped.
00:14:41
Speaker
Decorative but yes, so that's that I need to get special Ordered yellow and white striped fabric because for some reason I can't find any online or like any in person No matter where I look so I have to get that special ordered from an Etsy shop And I don't know how many yards I needed that yet because the jucata pattern I got doesn't have instructions at all
00:15:03
Speaker
So I gotta go figure out kind of what will work best for that. Luckily- I'm sure you could Google like the average amount of fabric used for like a men's- I think there's probably a calculator somewhere out there for fabric projects. I'm guessing probably six or seven though. Because I have to angle the- I have to angle the things so the stripes continue. But Sanji's wano is just like a basic yukata and then it has like a kind of a beige cotton obi but it's really small.
00:15:32
Speaker
and then he has it so his sleeves can be tied back so I'm just gonna get like some knit strings tie them and then his sleeves will be tied up so it's got like a half sleeve really but it's a full sleeve and then it's got an open chest so that's no big deal for the wig for that one I have to kind of edge the sides a little bit and then I'm going to I ordered some wefts already I'm gonna take a little foam piece to make like you know like the kind of buns that look like this shape
00:15:58
Speaker
Yeah. So I'm going to do that. So I'm gonna make like a figure eight out of foam and then I'm going to coat the wefts, but then I'm going to put a clip in so that way he can use his normal Sanji wig and just stick the pin in there. So it's got the bun. Yeah, that'll look great. That'll be fun. That's easy. That one's pretty easy. Ayukada is really easy sewing because it's just like a few lines and a little bit of ironing.
00:16:19
Speaker
It's just a lot of fabric. You've done a lot of room to lay that shit out. That you caught us specifically would be easy. The other kimono, because it's for Zoro and I have to be able to make it so it can hold the swords in the side, I'm doing it as kind of like a pants pattern instead. So it will have a cutout to go through the side there. So that will be a little bit hard. But once I get it, it'll be done. I don't know. I'll figure it out.
00:16:48
Speaker
Would it not be easier to just have an additional piece, like sew it like normal, have an additional piece of fabric? I might just add a strap. Just add like a thick strap and then put like some sort of catch in it so that it can hold it in place. I'm thinking once I get the garment finished and fitted and I can get it to the person I'm making it for and with the swords, I'll figure out how to rig it from there.
00:17:10
Speaker
but I'll more than likely just do some quick elastic loops to hold the swords in. But because it has that open pocket area, I can just kinda stick it in there so it'll be hidden. So that way you can fold them up when you don't want them to be obvious. You could get a large hook, like a hook and eye, but just use the hook part and then put in a small fabric loop on the hilt of the sword on the inside and that way it holds, that way it's held like a... Or I can just put fucking magnets in that bitch.
00:17:39
Speaker
True, I don't know if the magnets would hold on the fabric super well because- Well, I would sew them in. I'd sew them in. Okay. Like I would make pockets for the magnets to sit and just kind of top stitch around them. Okay. But I'll figure it out. I will figure it out. That one does not have to be done for at least three weeks. So for reference, we're recording this on the 23rd of January, the convention. I have to have everything done by Wednesday of February 23rd.
00:18:09
Speaker
So that gives me one, two, three, four weekends to work on everything. And a whole bunch of time in between. So we're going to work on that. I'm going to get that fabric ordered like I need. Self-back's easy. It's a double-breasted coat. And then I'm basically just going to get like a Raven coat pattern. Any cloak pattern will work because I'm just going to make a cloak that fits center and then skew it to the left.
00:18:35
Speaker
and then I'm gonna build in a collar out of foam, because it has a big outshoeing collar with the cape around it, and then it's got like a balaclava, is it a balaclava? Balaclava, yeah. Yeah, so that's one of their, I had him buy that separately, the glasses separately. I'm gonna make the headphones out of a headband and like the styrofoam, like half balls, and just smack that on there. The cape will be easy, because it's just a basic cape pattern, it's a circle.
00:19:04
Speaker
And then I always sit here, blah, blah, blah, drapery. I'm gonna make that part out of kind of a knit so it has the right draping. Double-breasted coat, pants, and then it has a belt. And the gloves are kind of confusing, but I'm just gonna make white gloves and then I'm gonna vinyl all the pieces on, like the strips, rather than making them out of foam or anything, because goddamn, I don't wanna do that.
00:19:24
Speaker
And then the boots come. Have you have you thought about using your Supergirl cape as a pattern for this case? It's a really long cape. It's got to be a full length. It's got to be a full length cape. Oh, that's right. Your cape only goes like your knees. Yeah. It's fine. I will. It's the capes. Not what I'm worried about. I'm worried about making the really weird boot covers and the gloves here. Let me show you what those look like really quickly. Sorry, the patient. I know no one gets to see these.
00:19:51
Speaker
I know that you'll be able to find a cloak pattern like that really easy because I think Simplicity sells like seven or eight of them. McCall's has a couple. Simplicity is the place to go. Yeah, Simplicity's patterns are so much easier, but look at the way that these boots are done and these gloves. Oh, I hate that. Yeah, so I'm going to figure out how to do it. I might just lay strips of foam and then gold leather them.
00:20:15
Speaker
and then glue them to the glove. Yeah. You know what you could do? Um, if you get a really, like a four inch zipper and sew them onto a base piece of black fabric, like the foam and glue, like glue it down to the vinyl fabric or pleather fabric and then put in a zipper on the underside. So like where it would lay right here and glue the foam over right up to the side of it. That way he can just zip it on and off.
00:20:41
Speaker
Well, I was just thinking of making it like a saw, like a tube, and then just stick your arm in through the tube, and then that sits on your arm. Yeah, but to get it over your hand and stuff is what I'm saying, is you can attach it and put in a zipper to make sure that it gets that, like, sits flush. You're right. I just got to figure out how to get that to, like, sew those down to the fabric, you know what I mean? You could probably just use a basic adhesive. Just one that does foam to...
00:21:13
Speaker
Yeah, like an all-purpose adhesive or fabric adhesive. I know Kenpatsu and Kamui Cosplay both have really good materials that they talk about on their socials as to how to glue things together. Mainly Kamui because she does more prop stuff. Yeah. But this part will be easy because I can just do the vinyl work for the cape.
00:21:35
Speaker
I can just do that because I have a cricket. I can cut that out. And then it's just gonna be, I have my friend who 3D printed the back of the jets. So the boots are done. And then I have them doing like the elbow pieces. They're big circles. Here's a better view of that so you can see what's up. But they're like big circles on there. And I'm just gonna magnet those to the elbow, like slightly right here. So that way when you bend, it's not like in the way, but when your arm is flat, it looks like it's right there. And it's gonna be kind of more of right here, like up here.
00:22:05
Speaker
So that way it's more when you move your arm, it fits better and isn't being fucked up by that piece. Yeah. So that'll be fun. That wig is going to be kind of complicated, but I will make it work. It'll be fun. That my friend is 3D printing the belt buckle for me too. So that's going to be easy because I should have to attach it to a parachute clip and done. Done. Hell yeah. All of this is fairly easy. It's just a lot.
00:22:31
Speaker
It is, it is just a lot. It's also a lot of like, you have to piece together everything like a puzzle. Because I'm not used to pattern selling.
00:22:39
Speaker
Yeah, you can think of like little pieces as to how you want to attach like how you want to make the gold parts of those gloves for Sanji. Yeah, that makes sense.

Exploring Creativity Through Cosplay

00:22:48
Speaker
But then it's the puzzle of well, how do I attach it to the gloves and how do the gloves fit onto the arm and how do they fit over the shirt? And how does that not catch on the cape and Lee? Mm hmm. I get it. It's gonna suck. Luckily, that's kind of since it's my bigger project, I'm slowly kind of putting it off for last.
00:23:05
Speaker
because if it doesn't get done, the person I'm making for won't be heartbroken because it's like...
00:23:10
Speaker
So the game plan is for level up for our one-piece group. My lashes are on my desk, I don't know why. We're gonna be doing one-piece time skip in the morning, so I'll be wearing my Nami bikini, he'll be dressed like Sanji, and then our other friend will be Zorro, that's who I'm making the base Zorro sash for. So all three of us will just be in base pre-time skip normal clothing. Then we're going to switch into Wano, which is all of the Yukatas and Kamonos that I'm making.
00:23:38
Speaker
Separately, and then I bought mine online. I'm just gonna make booty shorts for it so That's that that's separate That's what we're doing for costume two and then costume three for night like nightlife. We were gonna do stealth black and Our other friend was gonna stay in his wano outfit and I was going to switch into this red dress I got that looks like nami's red dress as she wears and one of the arcs I think it's the wedding arc I was gonna swap into that dress and do like a formal nami and let my hair down and everything like that with stealth black
00:24:09
Speaker
So when in doubt, if I can't formal Nami, then we'll just stay in Wano for the rest of the night. Right. But I'm hoping I can get all of these done. It's going to be a lot of time. It's going to probably be a little bit of crunching the next few days. So I'm going to be really busy. You know, but I really, really want to push myself this year. That's really a lot of what I'm trying to do. Cosplay is one of my first priorities because it's like.
00:24:34
Speaker
If I can make these commissions work well, if I can finish these in a good timeframe, then this opens up a whole other side of what I can do creatively. So that will be really great for me.
00:24:47
Speaker
You can do more commissions for other con friends and local friends. And once you get good enough at it, you can do like long distance commissions. Yep. I want to do that. I'm just really nervous about it. I'm really hoping I can finish this jacket soon so that can be at least off my plate. It's almost there. I'm not used to pattern sewing at all, it feels like. So kind of putting everything together is a little bit difficult for me, but it's going. We're doing it. It's working.
00:25:16
Speaker
You'll get there? Yeah, I know. That's why I've also tried to, while I'm relearning how to sew and reteaching myself, I've tried to avoid doing strictly like, oh, we'll just use a bunch of Saran Wrap and tape and measure yourself specifically and then create a pattern based off of that. Like, yeah, that's a great skill to have, to know how to create a pattern specifically for you.
00:25:39
Speaker
But it's also a great skill to use a pattern that's presented to you because you might get in a situation where you don't have a way to construct a piece of a garment, but a buddy of yours has an extra pattern and they're like, oh, well, I used this bigger size. So you can use the smaller size of the pattern that'll fit you and use this part. But if you don't know how to do that or what the markings mean on a pattern, then sucks. You're back at square one. You can't figure out how to use it.
00:26:09
Speaker
It's good to find that balance, and I'm trying not to lean heavily on one or the other.
00:26:14
Speaker
Yeah, I get it. It's just, it's really weird. I prefer sewing without patterns because my body type is weird, but it's like when I'm making things for other people, I don't want to risk getting it wrong, especially when they're paying me for it or paying me for materials or blah, blah, blah. So it's like, I'm going to stick strict to patterns and I'm really pushing myself with what I'm making. I've made the sort of thing for myself all the time. I've made capes for myself. I've made coats, I've made jackets, I've made pants, blah, blah, blah, I've made shirts.
00:26:44
Speaker
But when it's for other people, it's like, I need to do everything by the book correct, or this is gonna fucking suck shit. Like, I don't know. I'm really psyching myself out because I know I'm fully capable of doing it. I made a full Korra cosplay. Which looked amazing. Thank you. That was my first commission, first time selling for someone else, and it fit perfectly in every way. It looked great, like she was able to do full kicks in it and everything, like. Hell yeah, that's so exciting. I'm just in for relax.
00:27:14
Speaker
You do just need to relax. So I'm gonna try to finish that this week and start my Zoro commission and then finish off the other part of the Zoro commission of the Sash on its own. That way Zoro is done by the end of like next week. So that way we can wear him to karaoke, blah, blah, blah. And then I'm gonna basically put everything into finishing my last two Sanji builds. Hell yeah. And then I will finish those props individually when I can make them because it's just like,
00:27:43
Speaker
I'd rather have full garments done than things I can make pretty much day of. Yeah. Because the gauntlets are basically I'm going to make pink gloves. I get pink leather gloves and then make like a box that goes on the arm. That's it. It's not that hard. I just have to get the time to do it. So first things first is finishing the parts that take forever.
00:28:08
Speaker
Yeah. Yep. I hear that. It sucks. And then I have to find time to shoot them all. But that's probably gonna have to be after level up because I don't want time. Yeah. No, don't even stress about trying to shoot before level up. Also, it's cold as hell. And like, if you want to get really good lighting and stuff, you're gonna have to wait a while anyways. Well, the sun is out, but it's cold. And all of my nami looks are pretty revealing.
00:28:34
Speaker
Because I'm in a bikini top and jeans or a kimono with booty shorts. You don't want to shoot outside right now when it's like 20 degrees. No, I don't. I do not. But it's fine. We're figuring it out. I'm going to try to shoot my female Sanji. Sorry to yawn. My female Sanji, I'm going to try to shoot at the Peace Gardens with the nice background.
00:28:58
Speaker
And then I kind of want to shoot at a bar, but shooting at bars can be really expensive. So I might just sneak someone in with me to like quarters or something and do that. So that would be nice, but I've got to figure it out first. You know, you know how it goes.
00:29:15
Speaker
I shot at a bar last week, which is really exciting. My photographer friend who I've told her I'm dragging her kicking and screaming into becoming a cosplay photographer because she's like the only photographer that I trust wholeheartedly to shoot anything.
00:29:32
Speaker
Like, she could call me up and say, hey, I need a model. I have all these ideas I'll explain when you get here. And I'd say, like, yeah, sure, why not? Say less. I don't care. She's amazing at what she does. But she works at a bar part time, and I managed to be able to shoot there for my Black Canary that I finished, which was more of just a hodgepodge. I didn't actually sew anything for it, but it was still nice to, like,
00:29:59
Speaker
Realize once I ordered things for other cosplays of oh if I got a jacket and some gloves I could finish this other cosplay that I had no intention of doing but looks great anyways Yeah, that was a good feeling and it was super fun. The bar was gorgeous I should be getting those photos back in the next couple weeks So those will be posted and patrons will get first first views. So that's exciting too. Amen. Amen. So I
00:30:25
Speaker
If you aren't a patron already, tiki, sign up. You can get our cosplay pics. And I'm currently trying to figure out how to do this fucking wig for bunny suit stalking anarchy. You have it.
00:30:41
Speaker
panty and stocking. It's killed me inside so many times. I think I'm on the right track now. I originally have, I have two base stocking wigs. One was gifted to me. I purchased one for myself because we are going to do like original base costumes, panty and stocking, I think probably for Akon.
00:31:01
Speaker
That's what we were planning. And so I'm saving one for that. And I had another one that I thought, OK, I'll just deconstruct it and then use all those as wefts and create pigtails for the bunny suit stocking and panty for stocking's weird hairstyle that she has in this one episode where it's pulled into pigtails and she still has her bangs. But
00:31:29
Speaker
I realized that the majority of the wig is pink wefts and not the indigo wefts, and to do her pigtails it would need to be swapped.
00:31:39
Speaker
And by majority, I mean like 75% of this wig is pink and it's just indigo that's layered on top to give the color difference. So I took apart this entire wig and saved the bangs. So I can add the bangs later as like a top layer. And I ordered a white base wig that came with two pigtail clips, but it's curly. So now I have to throw it into boiling water.
00:32:06
Speaker
and get it to straighten out and dry. And then once I do that, I'll be able to cut off some excess hair on the base wig, and then I'm gonna test dye it, and I'm gonna dye it the indigo color. So I've deconstructed the wig and saved all the pink wefts, so I have all the wefts to sew in for this wig. So then I'll straighten it out, dye it indigo, take the pigtail wefts off of the clips,
00:32:33
Speaker
So in the pink wefts put them back on the clips I'll probably replace the clips too because the clips are like the really cheap like fake skin tone Butterfly clips that suck and they don't have like a sharp point to the tooth at all. Yeah, very like dull and
00:32:49
Speaker
probably swap those out, make sure that those sit right, trim and dye the base wig to an indigo, sew in the pink wefts, trim it again, do the bangs, which will be the hardest part, I think, because I'll have to sew in the pink underneath, and then probably sew in an extra layer of the bangs that I saved from the other wig.
00:33:11
Speaker
Um, and see if I can get it to lay flat and then just layer little razor cut edges of the base wig over it so it looks natural. So I have the game plan, but Jesus Christ, that's a lot of shit. Yeah. Okay. Hear me out while we're talking about it. Should we do their angel outfits? Oh my God. Cause right now, sorry. While you, I went to go pull up references so I could see exactly what you're talking about. And, um, right now the panty, uh, the, yeah, the panty version is.
00:33:41
Speaker
$48 on my costumes. It's on sale? $30 off. Let me check the stocking one really fast. The actual base dress for stocking is on sale too right now.
00:33:54
Speaker
Okay, so I've gone back and forth, which is another thing I kind of wanted to talk about on the episode, was making a decision on how accurate, quote unquote, accurate you want to be for a cosplay, because I have this actual Lolita dress that I found for a good price that I will send you another picture of, because I know you've seen it before, but a refresher.
00:34:18
Speaker
Because I think it would look nice if I just altered it a little bit, added in some white lacing for the trim, and... Hello, Amazon? Hello, please? Hello. It's being stupid. Sign in. Take your time, don't worry. Check my fucking cosplay list. Okay.
00:34:42
Speaker
Did you just forget all my list? Oh my god. No, okay. Thank God. Thank God. I'm just on a different computer from last time Oh for some reason Nick costumes isn't half the stocking version. It just has panty Yeah, that's also what I was gonna mention Okay, so here's like stupid the Lolita dress and then I'd like to point out this is amazing podcasting and
00:35:07
Speaker
It is, it is. I mean, I'm going to put all these in our like Instagram resources so everyone can kind of compare and see what we're talking about. Honestly, if you alter that one, all you have to do is change the sleeves, add a blue belt, add a blue bow instead of the black one. Add a white stripe. Yeah.
00:35:25
Speaker
Yeah, it wouldn't be too much that I would have to do. I might add in a little padding in the sleeves to make them a little poofier at the shoulders. I'd add a cuff, a white cuff at the wrist. I would swap the black bow for a blue one. I would create the belt with the blue bow in the back.
00:35:46
Speaker
and then make a matching bow for my hair and I already have the stockings. So then just add white trim to the first layer of ruffles and the bottom layer of ruffles and I'd be good. Or I could just wear a white petticoat underneath and that would solve the end trim. Yeah, just wear a white petticoat and then add a line to where the top layer of ruffles starts. Just add a white line across.
00:36:08
Speaker
a white ribbon or a white like laced ribbon so it'll look a little frilly but that way it looks more natural because all of the stocking based costumes that I've seen look static as fuck like they look so bland and they don't have any like interesting elements to them so I liked this one that looked more true to her character as a Lolita like model is her whole thing so
00:36:35
Speaker
then I would just have to figure out what kind of loafers I want to wear. I have a pair that would work, but they're brown, so I'll just have to buy the same version in black. Yeah, no big deal. And if you got like Mary Janes or something for it, which are always good to like have any black face shoe is just good for any costume because most of the time it works. Yeah, I mean, it's it is really great to have something that fits in with the particular style that you want to cosplay a lot, because what I got is
00:37:06
Speaker
Like a, um, excuse me. Hold on, my internet's being stupid. Um, I got a heeled brown loafer that's similar to like the Japanese school uniform style. And it would work for Ochako. It would work for Yumeko from Kakigururi. Uh, it would work for basically anything that has a brown loafer in a school uniform style. So if I just got that same thing in black, it would work great for things like this.
00:37:35
Speaker
Yeah, it sounds like it would. I like that. We could do the angel one. I don't know when we would do it. It might actually be better than the base one for Akon just because it would be hot and in Texas and in June. Well, I'm wearing a red dress. You're wearing a full lolita cord. So yeah, I'm a whore. You're in cord. Good luck.
00:37:57
Speaker
I'll see if I can find a fair quality stocking angel outfit in my size, which is really hard, believe it or not. What do you mean? How is it hard to explain? To find anything in a goddamn mid-size is the end of the world. God forbid. I can find so many things in a 2x or a 3x, I cannot find anything in a 1x.
00:38:22
Speaker
Why? Why is it hard? It's either you're in the skinny areas of things and this is to not discredit anyone by any means because ending sizes in this god-awful hellhole is the worst but it's either you find things for like really really petite women or you find things for plus-sized models and nothing in between, starve. Yeah. Fuck you being mid-sized.
00:38:42
Speaker
Yeah, like I I have petite wrists and like forearms and a petite like calves and then my hips are fucking giant and I have a tummy and then I have an average sized tits so I can't fit in anything. Can we cut this up and you give me the accessories for the mediums and then everything else? But then a top from a medium but then like a
00:39:07
Speaker
Let's do a grab bag, okay? Let's do like small bracelets, small jewelry, small gloves, but then like XL shorts. Yes, please. Thank you. Thank you. That's how it is. I got tiny feet too, which makes no sense. Why is my ass this big and I have tiny little feet? It makes no sense! It's not fair. It's just simply not fair. I don't know. It's funny. I hate it. I hate it here.
00:39:35
Speaker
I hate it here too. And I can't imagine that you would find something that like, oh my god, it fits my shoulders, it fits my waist, it fits my hips, but it's too fucking short. Yep, that's how it is. Or the sleeves. I can't do costumes with pants or long sleeves. If I do them, I have to make them myself. That sucks. Or just have really short sleeves on my costume.
00:39:56
Speaker
Or it fits, but then the hem of the shirt is too short. Or it looks way too tall on me. Like if it's a dress with a bust line, or like a waistline, it's too high up on me and looks kinda weird. Oh, like Empire Wastes? Fuck Empire Wastes. They're the stupidest things ever. You have to be like five feet tall even for an Empire Wastes to look good on you. For real, that's what I'm sayin'. I don't know, brother. I just straight up do not know.
00:40:24
Speaker
Damn. I'm trying to get more into being okay with buying cosplay. It's not like for all of them. I prefer to make my own, but if I want to meet most of my cues, sometimes we got to make sacrifices, you know?
00:40:35
Speaker
Well, and I think that there's not really, like, you're not less of a cosplayer to buy your components. No, I don't disagree at all. I just prefer to make my own because it's a growing opportunity for me. But at the same time, it's just like sometimes I just want to buy stuff. I just want to buy it.
00:40:54
Speaker
and sometimes it's a it's a difficulty level of like i don't want to work with that fabric but i want the the way that it looks like with my power girl i made the gloves and the boot covers that wasn't a big issue we 3d printed the belt buckle that i fucking broke
00:41:09
Speaker
didn't even get to take pictures in. But we 3D printed it and I didn't want to put in the effort to make that entire bodysuit out of vinyl that had like specific seam lines and everything so I just bought it. The cape would have been easy to make but it was easier to just buy the suit with the cape because then it had all the attachments sewn in so I could make sure the cape was in place.
00:41:33
Speaker
I get it, you're right. You did a lot of work on that costume, you looked amazing on it. It's just, yeah. Thanks. Make what you want, but at the same time, it's like, I don't know. I never know anymore. I never know.
00:41:45
Speaker
Well, there's a YouTuber that I saw a few months ago. I think her name was Anya Panda. And she did this whole series of like buying really inexpensive cosplay and then showing really simple fixes to make it elevated and look more accurate to the character and make things like
00:42:05
Speaker
just sit better on your body or make bows look bigger and have more body to them. So instead of this flaccid fabric piece that just hangs off the back, how do you iron in some interfacing so it stands and looks like it's completely standing up?
00:42:21
Speaker
Number one, the easy way to fix that is to iron your fucking cosways out of the package. True. Just iron it. Just iron it. Just hang it up. Hang it up in the bathroom and take a steamy ass shower. That alone would do better if you don't have an iron. Yeah, that's fucking for real is what I'm saying.
00:42:38
Speaker
I don't know I just I like It's hard. It's hard to want to do that after So long of just like I can't buy costumes I'm weird shaped and I realized I run a smaller a medium depending on what I'm getting so as long as I just like Read sizes I can honestly get away with it just fine. I just didn't matter doing it
00:43:01
Speaker
Take your measurements often. That goes for everybody. Take your measurements often. Learn how to take them. Look up on YouTube. How do I take my own measurements for your respective gender identity? Because, you know, men's clothes are sewn a little differently than women's clothes are.
00:43:18
Speaker
just for whatever you want to wear, look up how to take those measurements specifically, and then just do it. Just buy things better. Learn how to tailor things simply. Learn how to sew on a goddamn button or I'm gonna throw a fit. No fucking for real, that's what I'm saying, dude.
00:43:35
Speaker
It's also an issue, again, with the mid-size thing. I buy a lot of things from Shein, not because I want to, but because they have some of the best selections for plus-size and mid-size clothes that actually look like a 20-year-old would wear them. There's so much well-made plus-size and mid-size clothing
00:43:59
Speaker
but it's all for, like, 45-year-old mothers of two that work in an office. Like, I don't want to do that. I want to look like a hoe a little bit sometimes. I want to wear high-waisted jeans that'll fit me well, but I also want, like, fabric choices that don't look like a blazer could also be made out of them.
00:44:17
Speaker
Unfortunately, Sheehan is the place to go for that right now and their sizes change with every single garment. I can order a jacket and it would be in a 0x, but I can order a top the same day in the same department with the same fabric and it'll be a 2x because they just change things wildly. So take your own measurements.
00:44:38
Speaker
Make sure you check everything online, learn how to do it, and then maybe you can get into gospel. Read reviews so you know what you're buying and what people are saying, how it fits, that way you know if it's you. Like if it says it's running large, get it larger bitch, please don't make yourself hate whatever you bought. I don't know how else to describe it, just like don't do that. I don't know, figure it out. It's, yeah.
00:45:04
Speaker
But I really like getting into this hobby. I really like getting into cosplay as a whole. It's helped me so much with my body image, I feel like, which was that I'm at the heaviest I've ever been in my life and I don't hate myself for it, which is a lot considering I hated myself when I was 40 pounds lighter. Yeah.
00:45:25
Speaker
So, you know, maybe it's just a mental illness thing and not actually a body thing. I think it is just a mental illness thing. Now that you say it out loud like that, yeah, maybe so. You're right. But if you put yourself in the literal shoes of a character that you love and adore and want to like
00:45:45
Speaker
just absorb their information, their story, their backstory, their experiences through all of these comic books, video games, movies, TV shows. Eventually just get over it. Whatever. It helps you so much. If you can literally become for a split second this character that you adore in the skin that you might not be super happy with at the moment, it just makes you feel better overall. Yeah, agreed.
00:46:12
Speaker
And really, who's gonna feel ugly when you're in a leather bodysuit and fishnets? Come on. No one, no one, bro. You gonna be hot as shit. Oh my god, brother. It's just, it's...
00:46:27
Speaker
Do what you want, be hot. I hate fast fashion. I really, really, really, really, really, really do. I don't, it's fucked up, but there are some things where it's like, as a consumer, you don't really have a choice. It's like, if you want access to things, you gotta put up with it, you know?

Impact of Fast Fashion on Cosplay

00:46:44
Speaker
Fast fashion is so weird because like, one, it's great for cosplay if that's what you want to do, but two, like, let's take you and I, for example.
00:46:54
Speaker
We don't make a ton of money. We make fairly average for our age range and for the kind of work that we do. But we don't have enough to go to like fucking Lane Bryant, some big like nice well made office where
00:47:10
Speaker
company or whatever, we can afford H&M. And we are not going to go there every single month and buy five or six new things. We're going to go a couple times a year and buy a few things. And really, really milk how much worth we're getting out of this shirt we bought. I'm wearing a green shirt you can kind of see my nipples through. I've had it for six years. I got it from H&M and I'm still making it my bitch.
00:47:36
Speaker
It's that's exactly how it like my favorite t-shirt in the world I bought from hot topic when I was 12 and I still wear it at least once a week. It's because we're broke We know how to be resourceful, but it's like just the the self-consciousness of it Like don't waste a ton of money buying a bunch of random clothes that you're only gonna wear once That's fast fashion and that's what fast fashion wants you to do if you buy a handful of things a couple times a year and reuse Every aspect you can then you're not doing anything. Yeah
00:48:06
Speaker
I even, even shit that I bought from Forever 21 when I was in high school that I still like or think it looks cute, I always ask my friends that are thinner than me, hey, would you be interested in this before I just put it in a giveaway pile? And maybe it cost me $12. I don't care. It's still nice and it still looks good. Like, why would I just throw that away?
00:48:27
Speaker
Yeah. Even if it's like something old that I don't need anymore, I just be, I'll just use it for pajamas. Like it's nothing I do is I don't throw away stuff away. I get too nervous to do that. You know, I will put up with whatever.
00:48:41
Speaker
I don't know. We were ranting. We're ranting a lot. I'm sorry. We'll be talking. I mean, it's it's true, though. It's so many aspects of fast fashion, online shopping and knowing what fits you and what you like to wear go into every aspect of your life. And if you want to get into a hobby like cosplay, that'll help you feel a little better about that. It'll also teach you how to tailor things to fit you better.
00:49:05
Speaker
So maybe you bought something you really like and it was expensive and then it turns out it doesn't fit you anymore because it's too big. Well, now you can learn how to tailor it down because you made this fucking, I don't know, Teen Titans Raven cosplay at Nebula and learned how to take things in a little bit. You did. You're mastered. You're learning. In progress. You're still doing a good job.
00:49:29
Speaker
Oh, thank you. Oh, you're welcome. And even like taking Whoop, for example, who has learned he bought his 3D printer, he bought a second one just the other day because his current one's crapping out. But he's been hand painting these little figures for over a year or 18 months now or so.
00:49:49
Speaker
And he's learned so much more about things that he did not anticipate in the slightest. Like he's learned STL codes, like the types of files you have to make for 3D printing. He's learned how to resize and reshape things in a 3D modeling environment to make sure that it fits onto his machine. He's like experimented with different ways to print something, to angle something so you can work through it.
00:50:16
Speaker
Even though the end result of the hobby, the only thing he really wants to do is paint them. But you learn everything in the process of it. Every creative hobby like that, especially something that's kind of niche, like cosplay or Warhammer minis, or even just like collecting something in general, finding a way to display it and take good care of it, you find little talents and little skills along the way that I really enjoy.
00:50:40
Speaker
Yeah, I agree. I just wanted to vomit about things that I like. I love hearing Yvonne about things you like, but you know what, sick? Sorry to steal the show. My taxes are ready to be filed. So I'm gonna pay off everything I owe, and then I'm gonna buy so many fucking costumes.
00:51:00
Speaker
And my dad texted me yesterday and he said, your W-2 is at the house if you want to come get it. I'm like, oh, it's time. I've been getting those TurboTax emails. It's time. I know they sent me, you know, how if you do TurboTax or TaxAct, how like if you basically made the same as last year, how much you're going to get?
00:51:17
Speaker
Mine was like, your total, yeah, sometimes they do. Sometimes on the email, they'll be like, this is what you made. Cause I made the same amount last year. Cause I've been working the same job. They're like, here's how much your return should be. And they like the estimate based on my last year was like $4,000. I said, all right, sick. Do you get like multi thousand dollar tax returns? Fuck you. Why isn't that me? But if I do, that's like, I'm set first. I can do, I can shit out all the costumes I want and pay off my debts.
00:51:45
Speaker
Yeah, hell yeah. So that's hot for me. I'm going to file my taxes after this podcast over and then go crazy on costumes whenever I get my payout. You're so sexy. Go eat a bag of salad, lemon, vinaigrette, and pay your taxes. Spinach. Spinach. Oh, man.

Funding Cosplay Dreams

00:52:04
Speaker
Oh, man. It's January of 2022.
00:52:10
Speaker
Yes. I just, you said taxes and then it just hit me. Tax time. Tax time! Fuck. Yeah. If you're listening to this and you have a job that makes you pay taxes because some of you might be in college or whatever, do that soon. Don't wait until the last minute, like I did last year, which was horrible.
00:52:33
Speaker
I think I waited until May last year, because they extended it till June. I never wait. I bust that shit out fast. I get scared. I want my money ASAP. Give me my money, bitch. Joseph, cancel those debts. Give me my money. The IRS is slammed right now, though, because everyone's freaking out. Beginning of the year. Beginning of the year. Honestly, the IRS should get over it. You guys are used to this. Get over it.
00:53:03
Speaker
Oh my god. Also, like, what the fuck, IRS? Why is it like, we know how much you owe us, but we're not going to tell you, guest. Hee hee. You're like, OK, is it this much? And they say, no. Go to jail.
00:53:16
Speaker
You thought so. You silly goose, you thought so. Why are you like this, U.S.? Why are you like this? Okay, but my money withheld is a lot, so. Good. Good. It's all about- Pay those debts. Pay those debts. Pay your bills. Get those cosplays. Get those cosplays. Get that bread. Get that head.
00:53:38
Speaker
It's all about payin' our debts, payin' our bills, payin' our rent, and then putting on a cute little dress as a treat. Buy myself a little treat for the effort. Put on a little pink wig. Do a little dance. Yeah. Do a little dance. But right now the cosplay's I'm scoping out getting if I do get this, if I get this head, if I get this head, if I get this, ooh. The tax return? Yeah, I'm gonna get Fay Valentine. Hell yeah. Miss joke.
00:54:05
Speaker
Thorne from Scooby Doo, Arcane Jinx. Fuck yeah. And then maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe as a little impulsive treat, maybe just as a little one, maybe as a little one, I will go buy like- Spit it out. I don't know. I was going to say I would buy a nice body suit, like a general cat suit, but maybe I won't because I don't want to get it custom fit. I would just make it myself, but I will get the material to do that.
00:54:36
Speaker
Hell yeah. I don't know. I will go buy myself nice things because I earned them and I'll pay my debts because I earned them. I'm not really like in that much debt, but I have debt to other people because you know my situation. I don't know why I'm rambling about on the podcast. I'm nervous because we've been talking about too much for too long.
00:54:52

No, we're good. Well, I just mean I've been embarrassed that we've been talking about my taxes for this long. I took us off. Well, I mean, we're most of our listed basis adults, we can talk about adult things. Here's an adult fact about me. I'm like 12 grand in debt because of fucking college, which sucks. So I would love to get a good tax return and pay off some of my family, my credit card debt.

Feed your family of 12. That's me whooping our like 17 plushies that are on our king size bed. Give them each a little spoon of soup. The other day I was taking a nap after work because I was just fucking zonked. My brain was zapped.

And I like got under the covers and I have my little body pillow, my little Aaron Hansen body pillow. And whoop, started picking up the little plushies we have. So we have like a stuffed sloth and he like set it on my shoulder. And then we have like this stuffed octopus and he put it on top of my head. And there's a, he just bought a stuffed white Among Us crewmate.
00:56:03
Speaker
And just like put that on top of my side and just started piling all these plushies on me. They're for you, Nebula. They're for you. They're for me. They're for you. It's the best nap I've ever had. It's an hour and 15 minutes in. Should we start to wrap up, you think? This won't be that much on Patreon. Do you want to wrap up?
00:56:27
Speaker
Yeah, it'll be an hour for everybody else and an hour 15 on Patreon. Works for me. Okay. Well, this is just a good... We'll be back on schedule now that things are settled down. So it's not like this is going to be the last output on a minute. Either way. You want to try that one again? Yes. Thanks for listening to this podcast that we didn't really talk about much today. We won't be on that long of a hiatus, so forgive us for the shorter episode, but welcome to volume two.

What would happen if you look down and saw me super tiny, just like three inches tall on the floor at your feet in your bedroom? Tongue out emoji? Just imagine. Be dark if you want. It's just a fantasy tongue out emoji. Make it a detailed answer. Tongue out emoji.
