Understanding Triggers

00:00:26
Speaker
welcome back. In this episode, we're going to do a deep dive into your triggers and how to start learning from your triggers, understanding what your triggers are actually meant to teach you so that your triggers can be a force in your life that actually helps build you versus break you down.
00:00:47
Speaker
My name is Gianna Badeau. I'm a one-on-one coach, certified hypnotherapist, meditation teacher, and guide and if you need deeper support beyond this episode make sure you grab access to my rewired meditations they are linked in the notes below there's over 50 subconscious activations and meditations to help you tap into the power of your subconscious mind heal at the root so that you can stress less and achieve more every single day all right let's dive in
00:01:18
Speaker
So your triggers, your triggers, first and foremost, aren't there to torture you, to drive you insane, to frustrate you, to piss you off.
00:01:30
Speaker
Your triggers are actually there. They show up in your life to be your teacher, right? That's right. Your triggers are a teacher.
00:01:40
Speaker
Your triggers are meant to shine light, the parts of you that you're not paying attention to on the parts of you that are needing your love, support and attention and healing the most right now.
00:01:52
Speaker
And so what happens is a lot of times we get triggered, an emotional trigger from someone we love, from something that's going on in our life.

Triggers and Personal Growth

00:02:00
Speaker
And immediately we go into fight or flight of panic mode.
00:02:05
Speaker
That's right. You reach this fight or flight panic mode and you immediately reach that downward spiral where you're freaking out, you're losing it, you're going into an anxious mindset, you're going into a fear-based mindset. You're in this downward spiral, this downward emotional spiral that is causing a breakdown from the deepest part of you.
00:02:31
Speaker
And so what we want to happen is for you to get triggered and to be able to ask yourself, what is this teaching me? Not why is this happening to me, but what am I meant to learn from this?
00:02:47
Speaker
That is the question you really should be asking yourself when you get triggered, when you get angry, when someone irritates you, when someone pisses you off, when you go do that bad habit that you don't want to be doing, even though you don't want to do it.
00:03:02
Speaker
What are your triggers actually trying to tell you and teach you? And so oftentimes what we find when we do the deeper work is that your triggers, again, they're not there to ruin your life. They're not there to torture you, to ruin your day, to piss you off. Your triggers are actually there to shine light on the parts of you that need your focus, healing, and attention.

Self-awareness and Mindfulness

00:03:27
Speaker
So let's say you get triggered. Something happens, someone says something to you, or you see a bill that comes in the mail and it triggers your scarcity mindset because you're not quite sure how you're going to pay that bill, or perhaps you have an argument with your spouse or one of your children and you're triggered. You go into an emotional reactionary response. And usually what happens is you react with a negative response.
00:03:55
Speaker
It may be yelling, it may be deep anxiety, it may be a total freak out, it may be days and days of fear in your mind and body. You get triggered and this downward spiral begins.
00:04:09
Speaker
And so for you, what needs to start happening is catching yourself in that spiral before you hit bottom. Because when we go too far down that downward spiral, eventually you will hit your breaking point, you will hit bottom.
00:04:26
Speaker
And so your work as a human being living in the 21st century who has deep healing work to do is to catch yourself amidst that downward spiral. Now, this does not mean that every time you're going to catch yourself and it's going to go beautifully and you're perfect.
00:04:43
Speaker
Forget that. You're never going to go at this perfectly. But what it does mean is that you will be able to reach the point on your self-development and healing journey where you can catch yourself and ask yourself, what is this meant to teach me?
00:04:57
Speaker
What is this trying to show me? What am I supposed to be learning from this instead of going down the spiral and hitting bottom? Because your triggers are always meant to teach you something. And what they're meant to teach you is where you need to put your attention the most right now.
00:05:15
Speaker
Let's say you get into a fight with your significant other and you're instantly triggered. You're instantly blowing up. You're instantly freaking out. You're instantly repeating to them all of the negative things that they've done in the past.
00:05:26
Speaker
you are totally in your triggers. Now, some of the reasons why you're triggered may have to do with your spouse, with your partner, but a lot of the reasons why you're triggered may also have to do with the relationship that you have with yourself, with the relationship you had perhaps with one of your parents growing up, the way you react in relationship with the person you love the most,
00:05:51
Speaker
your partner is often a reflection of the relationship you have with yourself or the relationship that you had with one of your parents that needed healing, that you did not get to heal, that you did not get what you needed from one of them or both of them.
00:06:08
Speaker
So in this case, in this example, whether it be you didn't get enough attention or something from one of your parents, or perhaps you are neglecting your own self, this trigger is showing you, hey, I need to focus on me.
00:06:22
Speaker
Hey, I need to heal that wound from my mom. I need to heal that wound from my dad. I need to do this work because I'm taking it out on my partner. And you should be able to have a calm conversation with your partner about what's bothering you without blowing up, without freaking out.
00:06:40
Speaker
And if you're not able to do that, then there is some wound, there is some part of you that needs focus, that needs healing. Again, whether it's the relationship you have with you, it's the relationship you had with one of your parents or something else entirely, there is work that needs to be done you.
00:06:58
Speaker
you And this reaction that you're having in your relationship with your partner is shining light on the fact that there's parts of you that need healing.
00:07:08
Speaker
There's parts of you that need your focus, that need your attention. And there is wisdom in every trigger that you have. Your wounds, your triggers, they hold deep wisdom for you to help you evolve and learn and become this next level higher version of yourself.
00:07:27
Speaker
So to understand what your triggers are trying to teach you, it does require some level of self-awareness and mindfulness and really the ability to take a step back and pause and take a deep look at yourself.
00:07:43
Speaker
Because if you cannot take take a step back and pause and look at yourself, then you're never going to be able to catch that reaction

Confronting Subconscious Wounds

00:07:50
Speaker
in the act. That reaction is just going to happen.
00:07:54
Speaker
Now, what happens when you start reprogramming your subconscious and practicing the pause and deep breathing throughout your day and practicing mindfulness more and more is when you are triggered,
00:08:06
Speaker
you're actually able to take that step back, to actually feel what's happening in your body before you react, before you lose your shit, before you freak out. And if we're not working with the subconscious, if we're not practicing mindful self-awareness consistently in our day-to-day reality, you may struggle with taking a step back before you react. And Again, it's okay if you do have moments where you're not able to take a step back before you react. That may happen along the journey and that's okay.
00:08:38
Speaker
But what matters is that you're actively trying, is that you're taking steps every day to work with yourself, to work with your shadow side, to really understand, hey, what is driving this behavior pattern? Because something underneath the surface is not right.
00:08:54
Speaker
And what's driving you under the surface is your subconscious mind. That's why you don't realize in the moment why you're doing the things you're doing, why you're saying the things you're doing, and you're just reacting. It's because you are operating and reacting from your subconscious, your unconscious programming, which means in the moment, you are not conscious of what you are doing.
00:09:15
Speaker
So what needs to happen is doing a daily practice that will support you in making what is unconscious conscious. Working with your subconscious to understand more deeply what programming is in my subconscious that is causing me to react the way I do.
00:09:35
Speaker
That is causing me to have the emotional fallout or breakdown that I do when I am triggered. And understanding what is in your subconscious is probably the most powerful work, the most impactful work that you could ever do for yourself. The most important work that you could ever do for yourself. Because when you understand what is in your subconscious, you understand yourself at the deepest level of your being.
00:10:04
Speaker
Because if you don't understand yourself from a subconscious level, you really don't even know yourself. Because you don't understand what is driving your reactions, what is causing you to have the trigger responses that you do.
00:10:19
Speaker
You are just operating on autopilot with a big question mark in the front of your brain 24-7. twenty four seven You have no idea why you do the things you do. You have no idea why you say and react the way you do.
00:10:34
Speaker
You're just operating on autopilot. And so taking charge of your life and taking charge of your triggers and taking charge of the way you feel every day involves you taking charge of your subconscious mind because your subconscious mind is going to shine a direct light on the parts of you that are currently in the darkness.
00:10:54
Speaker
on the parts of you that you can't quite see in your normal day-to-day conscious waking state while you're moving through your life. This means taking a step back, closing your eyes, and looking deep within yourself, understanding the programming, the memories, the pain, the wounds that have made you why you are the way you are, that have made you the way you are at the deepest level.
00:11:23
Speaker
And so when we understand why we are the way we are at the deepest level, we actually can take charge of that. We can heal it. We can rewire it. And we can say, actually, you know what? I'd like to respond this way instead next time.
00:11:37
Speaker
Actually, i'd like to respond in a more conscious, intentional, intuitive way in my day-to-day reality. I don't want to have a reaction of anger, of sadness,
00:11:49
Speaker
I don't want to have that negative reaction. i want to have a reaction that I am choosing in that moment. I am conscious of in that moment. Because if you're not conscious of what you're doing in the moment, if you're not choosing the way you want to be in the world, someone else has done it for you.
00:12:10
Speaker
Whether it's traumatic events that you went through in your life, whether it was your parents growing up, whether it was things that you've gone through in recent years, the way that you are showing up is determined by the things that you have gone through.
00:12:23
Speaker
And so if you do not heal the wounds of what you've gone through, the negative things that you've gone through, you are going to operate from that fear-based place. And that's exactly what we are working with here when we're talking about triggers.
00:12:36
Speaker
Triggers are rooted in fear. Triggers our fear-based emotions that that are reacting the way they are because it's a protection mechanism, because you don't feel safe in that moment. So to feel safer, you react and respond the way you do, even though it's actually hurting you.
00:12:56
Speaker
It's actually causing you deep pain. It's actually causing you more stress, anxiety, and suffering. So this is your time to take charge of your triggers, to take charge of your life in a very intentional and deliberate way by asking yourself that powerful question in the moment.
00:13:14
Speaker
What is this meant to teach me? So you can stop asking yourself, why is this happening to me? It's happening to you because it's trying to teach you something. It's happening to you because there is wisdom that you're meant to learn right now in this moment at this stage of your life.
00:13:32
Speaker
So doing the work that allows you to take a pause, take a step back, look at the situation and say, what is this meant to teach me? Before you react, before you have a blow up, before you have this deep stress, you can actually take a step back and ask yourself what am I meant to learn from this?
00:13:52
Speaker
And when you take a step back and ask yourself that question, you will almost always get an instantaneous response. ping of intuition, a response that you understand exactly what this is meant to teach you, exactly what this is meant to show you.
00:14:06
Speaker
And if you don't get a response right away, that's okay too. You can keep that question open for a week, for two weeks, for a month. while you try to unpack this and understand what you're meant to learn right now.
00:14:18
Speaker
And again, this may not come right away. For some people it will, for others it may take more time to actually get those deeper answers. And your job is to stay the course, to allow yourself to be in this place of self-reflection in your life where you can really take a hard look at yourself for an extended period of time and understand why you are the way you are.
00:14:41
Speaker
and what you're meant to learn at this stage in this era, in this chapter of your reality of your life, because you only have one life and your job and your role in this life is to learn, to transform, to transcend, to show up as the best version of yourself that you possibly can every day so that you can actually enjoy the gift of life that you have been given. Because every day that you wake up, it really is a gift.
00:15:09
Speaker
And so do you want to move through your life appreciating that gift with a state of conscious wisdom and conscious awareness? Or do you want to operate through the gift of your life on autopilot, freaking out, losing your mind, getting triggered, being reactionary?
00:15:27
Speaker
Really, there's two paths that you get to choose from that you get to take. and The choice always yours. And it does not matter how many years you have spent in a reactionary mindset. You can shift it.
00:15:40
Speaker
You can change it. You can evolve it. You can transcend it. today. and you make that conscious decision over and over again that you will be a student of your own life, that you will learn from your triggers, that you will learn from what you go through, that you will grow through everything that you go through in your life. And that is exactly what your triggers are meant to teach you.
00:16:06
Speaker
So next time you get triggered, you ask yourself, What is this meant to teach me? What am I meant to learn from this experience, from this moment right now? And what will make this a lot easier is having a daily practice utilizing the required meditations every single day that will allow you to take a step back, close your eyes and train your mind to be more present.
00:16:28
Speaker
to regulate your nervous system, to become calmer in your body so that when you are triggered, you're able to deal with your triggers and face what you're going through from this regulated calm state.

Meditation and Self-awareness

00:16:41
Speaker
And this is what happens when you do do a daily practice like the rewired meditation, like any practice that allows you to pull back and go within.
00:16:52
Speaker
So I highly recommend doing those two things. The first step again is starting a daily practice today. You can start a daily practice using the rewired meditations that I've linked for you in the notes below. There's so many different topics and audio recordings that you can start pressing play on every single day to help you ground your body, regulate your nervous system, and come into a state of conscious self-awareness. You can start training your mind through the consistency of the daily practice to be able to pause when you are triggered.
00:17:23
Speaker
So that is the first step. The second step is asking yourself that question. What is this meant to teach me? And allowing yourself to receive the answer. And if you really want to go deeper, you ask yourself that question when you are doing the rewired meditations.
00:17:39
Speaker
When you are in the middle of that meditation, you ask yourself, what am I meant to learn from x experience? What i meant to learn from this? How am I supposed to grow through this? What is this meant to teach me?
00:17:50
Speaker
And then you wait for the answer. You don't need to try to pull the answer out of you. You just pause and you feel for the answer. You turn on your feeling mind. You feel for wisdom and truth in your body instead of trying to think, think, think.
00:18:08
Speaker
Thinking is not going to get you far. What's actually going to help you grow is feeling for this deep inner wisdom. And that's exactly what the rewired meditations are going to help you do is get in touch with that deep inner wisdom that you cannot consciously access in your normal conscious waking state.
00:18:27
Speaker
So your triggers are meant to teach you something. They're meant to help you grow, to evolve, to transcend, to reach a higher level version of yourself.
00:18:38
Speaker
So it's extremely important that you dig deep, that you pull the layers back and you look at yourself just like you look at yourself in the mirror, but looking at your internal world and you really understand what needs to happen next forward.
00:18:54
Speaker
What part of you do you need to focus on? What part of you needs your attention the most right now? Is it your inner child? Is it your present day self?
00:19:04
Speaker
There is a part of you that needs your attention, that needs your healing if you are being triggered.

Conclusion and Call to Action
