SpongeBob and Gaming References

00:00:40
Speaker
What's going on? I'm Dan. Where did you buried Pinhead Larry's body, Dan? uh actually i didn't bury it uh sandy just ripped it apart oh yeah damn savage uh dad welcome uh to the podcast twitch streamer twitch affiliate welcome on in what's up how you doing uh we're doing great i i you know i had to make that joke off the bat because you're not the only one are you're far from the only one don't worry
00:01:12
Speaker
I feel like when you're called that and you you're in the like our generation who grew up and just remember that what what it's one of like the more iconic scenes from old Spongebob and Head Larry and Dirty Dan. and they're that's even They're even referenced in the latest Spongebob game if you ah the Which one? Oh, God. the um Titans of the Tide. Yeah, I started that game. I haven't finished it. it's It's all right. You know what? It's an all right game. it's ah with Purple Lab has been doing good with the the stuff taking over the SpongeBob series.
00:01:47
Speaker
with the modern games after the Battle for Bikini Bottom remaster. ah Yeah, it's very Battle for Bikini Bottom-esque. Yeah, I mean, they're basically building off of the the new engine that they did for the remake of that, and it's basically just been that with Cosmic Shake and now Titans of the Tide. And yeah, both Dirty Dan and Pinhead Larry's Grave can be found in one of the later levels.

Loading Screen: Dirty Dan's Favorites

00:02:08
Speaker
Oh, really? Oh, God, that's crazy. i i haven't gotten to that part yet. yeah it's it's a great It's a very funny thing to see. ah But, Dan, since you're new here, we get to start off with the loading screen, where you get to give us your favorite game, game character, game soundtrack.
00:02:25
Speaker
Okay, that's kind of easy. Favorite game, i would say, is probably Smash Ultimate. I remember when that game like first got announced and I was like, I wasn't losing my shit like other big YouTubers were, but like I was excited and I plugged like so many hours into that game and... And like i i guess second like guess a thousand hours in that game or something like that. And I asked my friends about it.
00:02:49
Speaker
Um, I was told my friend about it, waiters. And he was like, that's it. I'm like, what? But, uh, smash ultimate, my favorite, favorite, favorite game, favorite characters gotta be shadow of the hedgehog. I love shadow of the hedgehog just because, mean, he's just so goddamn cool.
00:03:04
Speaker
It's basically what it comes down to. And, um, favorite OST is,
00:03:10
Speaker
cop-outs on a game uh let's say either sonic unleashed or sonic in the black knight those two i feel like those two games might be this might be a hot take but i feel like those two games if they released today it would walk out with at least a Award for the soundtrack alone because i i mean i feel like black night still very overlooked ah in today's great.

Hot Takes and Game Discussions

00:03:38
Speaker
Yeah, ah like all at least has been seeing a lot more love recently.
00:03:42
Speaker
I started to notice but black night still seems very overlooked with all the Sonic games still like secret rings is slowly starting to get its love is starting to get its way back in but black night still a little bit in the shadows there.
00:03:56
Speaker
um i know did you hear do you know about product reignition by the way that's the remake there's the fan re the fan remake of sonic and secret rings i played it i played it great um does it modernize everything or in everything or is it just uh like fixing like issues oh oh it's it's full controller support um it gives you 120 fps which is It's, oh my God. I made a video on it too. um
00:04:26
Speaker
Like there's this, what if on stream when I streamed it, um the first thing I did, i looked at the options and the options is like this book that opens up and this, and the animation of the book opening up is so buttery smooth. And i'm like, oh my God, that's beautiful.
00:04:44
Speaker
That's the most, that's the most, that's like 120 sexy frames per second. God damn. Oh yeah. Controller support FPS. And, um, ah yeah f by the way, but the FPS does so much. You, you, you like that game, you have no idea. They've done every level except for the tutorial level and the final level. Oh, wow. So it's, ah why, ah why, why not the tutorial level? I feel like that would be like one of the first.
00:05:12
Speaker
Ask the developer.

Pokemon Champions and Features

00:05:13
Speaker
don't know.
00:05:15
Speaker
Moving on to the second intro thing, Hot Takes. Dan, what is your hottest video game take? I can't think one. I can't think of one off the top of my head. Maybe if they come up later.
00:05:28
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, yeah. If you think of it later, I'll absolutely absolutely take it. I'll give you mine. If you are a Mario and Sonic fan, I will give you mine. Mine is pretty hot for Mario fans. ah I think Mario 64 is a bad game casually.
00:05:42
Speaker
well you do That's my hot take. Oh my god, yes. That's my yes no no i take lookre No, no i take no. I take it back. I don't take it back. I still think Mario 64 is bad. But I think Mario Sunshine is a teensy bit overrated. bit overrated.
00:05:59
Speaker
okay teensy bit bo readed you know what? That's fair. that's fair not a big Sunshine guy. But two hot takes. Mario and Mario Sunshine aren't that good.
00:06:10
Speaker
Fair enough. Fair enough. Everything in the is good. ever d m that's good Moving on from that, we' be diving into our headline of the week. A lot of things happened this week that I could have picked from, but the headline of the week that we're going with this week is the Pokemon Champions reveal overview. ah They dropped a 7-8 minute trailer ah going over the game and what they're bringing to the table with it, as well as finally released the website, a release date, and so much more. and We're going to go over that right now. Starting off,
00:06:44
Speaker
ah how you get Pokemon in the game. Obviously, you can connect your home account with it, or you can recruit. You get a free trial recruit once per day.
00:06:55
Speaker
ah However, they only last for a week before you have to before that mod goes away. There are ways to get permanent mods through that, which i will cover a little bit here. Megas will be ah in the game right off the bat, and with the... ah and that they give you more ah gimmicks will be added over time, most likely including Z-moves, Gigantamax, the terrestrializing. They're putting everything in there, right? Everything in there, even what wins. They'll have to get those three in before we get to Gen 10, I feel.
00:07:33
Speaker
because i feel like that's like... the best thing that they can do for the game. Yeah. My head cannon is that this is my head cannon. And it's like, i think they're trying to kill Pokemon showdown.
00:07:46
Speaker
I mean a little, but like they even said that this is going to be the new way going forward, uh, uh, competitive Pokemon. I don't mind it. oh Yeah. be three Champions. And honestly, I think it's a nice thing to do to actually have just a dedicated space for that. Now, instead of having it tied to each game where that way they're able to focus more on the world and like other aspects of the game, aside from its online, uh, multiplayer, uh,
00:08:14
Speaker
So it's kind of nice that they do this because this way they can make sure things are stay stable, stable, things are updated, and they, of course, like everyone else does, monetize the shit out of it. I mean, it's free to play, right? It is free to play. Yeah.
00:08:28
Speaker
um free to play. ah There are things to buy. Again, we'll get there in a second. Battle modes. Off the bat, you will have ranked mode, casual mode, and private matches that you can do. Whether or not you can set up a private lobbies and multiple people can join those, they weren't clear on, but we'll find out come launch day if that is the case or not, because that would be cool to see... ah ah Just like massive lobbies filled with things and multiple battles can take place in said lobbies.
00:08:54
Speaker
Very cold if that is the case. Online competitions are another thing will be available. These change every season that will have specific preset rules. ah You do not need a Nintendo Switch Online to play the game as well. You do not need Nintendo Switch Online.
00:09:11
Speaker
ah So there is that. And NSO people don't get like any added benefits for having NSO, so this is one of the few games Nintendo has put out, Pokemon has put out, that doesn't require that. god Your main currency are victory points. With these, you can swap moves of your Pokemon, change their natures, change their abilities, change their stat points, recruit more Pokemon with victory points, and they can become permanent additions.
00:09:39
Speaker
ah purchase hold items and mega stones and also purchase your trainer outfits animations for your victory and how you throw your pokeball and the battle music that plays when you battle really good youre real quick the change nature thing that's what got me really interested when i was watching the overview trailer i was like oh Yeah, it's very crazy.
00:10:01
Speaker
I believe it's all like with with them, the data transferred into home and the Pokemon that you register for that. It's like, yeah, I think it's just for the the the champion's version of that. I don't know if it's like, if you put it back... No, no, no. not Yeah, and they won't go that crazy.
00:10:18
Speaker
They won't go that crazy. Even though there is ways to do that. and even though there are oh sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt. It's all good. all good. um Even though there are ways to do that, in they they give you a lot of options, Scarlet and Violet. As much hate Scarlet and Violet gets, I will say, it gives you a lot of freedom, per se, to like up like to to up to ah like you know make your Pokemon better. like The whole, the whole um what's it called? ah The...
00:10:43
Speaker
The nature change mechanic in Scarlet Violet. It's tedious, but hey, you can do it. yeah it It was what? Finding the right mids mince back? Yeah, it's been a while since played it. haven't brought up Scarlet and Violet since I first... Well, that's when I brought up Scarlet and Violet. With the mainline games, they have been making it more streamlined to get change everything and whatnot. They make it much simpler. So the they're just doing this. It's good.
00:11:08
Speaker
good ah We are getting a battle pass. There will be a battle pass every season. You accumulate SP to raise it, and rewards can include Mega Stones, Pokemon, items, and tickets.
00:11:22
Speaker
ah And thanks to Japan actually releasing the prices for everything, we have a rough yen conversion to USD of how much things will cost.
00:11:33
Speaker
ah So the battle pass every season is going to roughly cost $9 $10 every season. it's not bad It's not bad. Now, granted, these are direct conversions from the yen, so we don't know if these will actually be like $9.99 or like $10.99 or even a little bit more than that, depending on certain conversions and whatnot. But that is these are just rough estimates of what the prices could be in USD.
00:11:59
Speaker
ah There is also a starter pack that you can get that is going roughly be $6 to $7 USD. Ha ha ha, $6, $7, I know. ah you get With the starter pack, you get increased box space, which is plus 50 Pokemon, which means you will have a limited box space on the free version alone.
00:12:21
Speaker
You will also get let's the Let's Go Battle Music, 30 teammate tickets, and 50 training tickets. Then there is the Pokemon Champions membership. This is the paid membership that you can pay for every month or every year.
00:12:35
Speaker
if you bought It is $5 to $6 a month or around $47 a year. Not too crazy, honestly. Because if you combine that with a home subscription, you're paying $60 a year for those two Pokemon games then?
00:12:53
Speaker
I'm actually glad you went over this because i haven't watched ah any videos yet on how the prices are broken down. just website Or just through the research on finding what the Japanese got listed the prices as because they announced it in Japan, but not in the U.S.
00:13:08
Speaker
So, you know, it's what we do here in the game lounge, but this is a paid membership. You get more storage, more than like one battle team that you can register teams, or i don't, we actually don't know how many battle teams you get to register, but you get more of those exclusive missions and exclusive songs as well that you can get. So you have to buy the let's go battle music. Oh yeah, that is with the starter pack and that's it's six, seven bucks.
00:13:34
Speaker
That's kind of dumb. it is kind It is kind of dumb, but like they cook it could have made it a lot worse. They could have made it double digits for like price. At least it's like in the single range. Like ah great granted, this is a game that isn't for me.
00:13:48
Speaker
I'm not a big Pokemon guy. I'm not going to play champions unless it's like, hey, do you want to get one of the new exclusive Gen 10 Pokemon mythicals? There you go. may go have the Have a safe file on Pokemon champions. Yeah, that's that's the only reason you'll ever see me playing that. and ah The game releases April 8th, which also probably means that home support for Legends ZA a and FireRedLeafGreen will be releasing yeah around that same time, if not on the 8th as well, which means that's when I'll finally have my complete living decks, where I can finally transfer Hoopa into my home and finish it.
00:14:30
Speaker
Finish the goddamn living decks. I'll say this right now. I'm surprised FireRed and LeafGreen... I know it was going to get home support eventually, but surprised it didn't do it day one for FireRed and LeafGreen. I mean, the fact... can understand that because I feel like a lot of Pokemon games off the bat should just come with home support on day one because then it's like, oh, cool. If you don't want to deal with the Pokedex, you then have that option when you finish the game to just transfer everything in, take it back

Game Releases and Industry Updates

00:15:00
Speaker
out, and do all that stuff so that way you can...
00:15:03
Speaker
still reap the rewards like the shiny charm and whatnot or whatever without having to if you're not into the that the whole grinding to complete the pokedex you don't have to worry about that then ah Or, yeah, or we can just do it the old fashioned way and get my old fire red cartridge, put it on my DS, put diamond and pearl in the DS d as well, transfer it there, gen four and five. it I remember doing that. That was I remember doing that too i i remember getting all the p pokemons across the thing. I never got a Pokemon bank initially, though. I did. And it was ah it was pretty useful.
00:15:39
Speaker
right that was but that That was the Pokemon Champions reveal. um we Obviously, we'll know like prices for all that stuff closer to. If not, if you look on the eShop to see if you can pre-order anything, like the starter pack or whatever, you can see that there. But honestly, i think this is a ah good step towards Pokemon's future with their ah competitive VGC.
00:16:06
Speaker
And I'm excited to see what kind of comes from this. I think that um we haven't gotten like an actual battle simulator, an official battle battle simulator. I could be wrong about this, but since Battle Revolution, I think, of the yeah oh done yeah like there is no like main single-player mode in this game, unlike Battle Revolution or the stadium games. It's just online.
00:16:29
Speaker
It is all just... online battles and whatnot. There is no single-player thing to do some fun stuff there, too. Because I feel like if there was that, then I would maybe play champions for that side alone.
00:16:42
Speaker
ah But there is not... It's a showdown. it's kind so It's a showdown, which is... which is which is ah Yeah, which is a good which is a good thing. like i I use Showdown every now and then. I do i like i love doing random battles. like Those are super fun. You know what? if po And Pokemon could do that too. Oh my god. I was thinking that too when I saw the trailer.
00:17:02
Speaker
In a future update with this game, which I think would be very cool. That would be a really fun thing to have in this kind of game because then it lets people see how other Pokemon could be used aside from just sticking with their favorites and whatnot.
00:17:17
Speaker
Yeah, that'd be honestly like I'm i'm kind of art I mean, again, it's a free to play game. So, you know, yeah. and and But so i was like, I'm kind of already sold on it. But like if they add random battles on a future update, I'm really sold. That's that sounds like fun. yeah ah The only other thing that I did see is it sounds like you only get 200 VP max from ah matches. Don't know how true this is, but if that is true, you will have to do a lot of grinding to get a lot of VP to get your mods to where they want to be for, like, super competitive.
00:17:51
Speaker
Do the levels scale to like 50 or 100 when you transfer them from home or no? Also, the other thing, it sounds like the only Pokemon will be transferred in at the moment it are going to be fully evolved Pokemon.
00:18:03
Speaker
oh with the exception of pikachu because pikachu was in the in the post that said this from like official pokemon pikachu was visible in the like roster of like pokemon that were just like oh yeah transfer some pokemon there was pikachu in there too it's like okay make game about people make a game about pikachu game freak be brave be bold be cute come on you You can do it. But yeah, that is Funko on Champions. Comes out April 8th. With that, it's now time to dive into literally everything else that happened. It was quite a busy two weeks. Let's dive into that with the week in review.
00:18:40
Speaker
Recapping the major stories of video games and the world of tabletop, looking over recent releases and reports from the Game Lounge crew, it's the week in review. And kicking it off, some of the major game releases that came out this past week, you had the big, massive open world Crimson Desert launch to...
00:18:58
Speaker
very mixed reviews. Damon and baby launched as well as life is stranger union, the mega man, star force, legacy collection, MLB, the show 26. And now one of the worst gotcha games of all time. The seven deadly sins origins.
00:19:13
Speaker
ah Yeah. MLB, the show. I want to play. it' pierce It's PS five exclusive, right? Is is it right now? Hold on. I know that like they used to be,
00:19:27
Speaker
ah was like I want to play, but I don't own a PS5. I'm a baseball fan. I'm a Yankee fan. And baseball seasons baseball season it started yesterday. MLB The Show 26 is available on PS5, Series X, and Nintendo Switch.
00:19:43
Speaker
I'll get on Nintendo or something like that. Probably what I'll get on Nintendo Switch probably. It'll probably run like ass, but you know what? Well, sorry, Switch 2. Yeah, it'll run better on Switch 2. I don't know how better because an optimization. i It runs better with Switch 2, obviously, because all Switch games run better Switch 2.
00:20:03
Speaker
yeah and crimson desert that game sounds familiar this is that big massive game that was like shown a couple years ago it like you continually get hype and it's like this like super massive thing it like combines a lot of game elements all together and it came out review game reviewers did not like it the game comes out the public and it's like a very 50 50 split. This game does not hold your hand. It's very, but also like a big thing that I'm hearing about this game is like, Hey, take like an MMORPG.
00:20:39
Speaker
And remove the m m m MMO part. Like, take an MMORPG, keep everything else, but remove every like every like player that you would see like fill up this massive world. Remove all of those and make this make it just you.
00:20:54
Speaker
And it's like, it feels like, well, it's cool it invest and vast and big and you can do a lot of things. It's like, ah emptiness has been stated a lot. ah Controls seem to have been not great on launch. Now, ah the...
00:21:09
Speaker
developers did come out saying hey we're working on a lot of fixes for the game right now too obviously because you know really bugs and stuff stuff uh but they're gonna revamp the controls and a lot of other things and also the game did get under fire for having ai art uh placeholders well it was place again it was more like a placeholders in there they're like we're we're doing like a whole thing to go through and make sure that we find all in the place all with what they're supposed to be, which is like, it's fine. Like as long as you do that, the same with Claire Obscure, right? Yeah. Which I think is fine. Yeah. Like they're going to like,
00:21:42
Speaker
yeah which which i think is fine yeah but yeah like they're going to like i I get that people are anti-AI and like the AI bubble is crashing because I think I put it in here for the thing. But if I don't, Zora going down or the AI video maker is shutting down and Disney has an AI deal breaking. I believe it's in here. So we will get to that a bit later. But first, the Xbox partner showcase happened and they revealed a bunch. They revealed some new games. They give us some details on some games and some stuff looks cool. Some stuff looks all right. It's an Xbox show. So, you know, it's Xbox is in a weird time right now with. Oh, yeah. The Halo thing. find it funny that there's a hit that the new Halo one remastered is coming as PlayStation 2. I remember playing that game. Well, remember playing Halo 3. My friends and I on Xbox Live when we were younger. Oh, my God. Those were custom games. Forge. We played bumper cars. That was me with Reach. That was Reach with me. The days. The good old days.
00:22:55
Speaker
When you could say slurs in gaming and it was normal. I'm joking. I never did that. I never did that internet behave. dave It's a joke. You ever play Halo Wars?
00:23:07
Speaker
i Okay, Halo Wars I never played. I never got into Halo Wars specifically because of just how... What is this? RTS army game. Yeah, it's an army game. My friends my friends and I... Oh, go ahead. Sorry.
00:23:21
Speaker
I just never got into it. Yeah, my friends and I played when we were younger as well. And... um I sucked at it. i was literally like We do 3v3s and stuff, and I was literally like... it was if If I was in your team, it's a 2v1. Sorry, 2v3. It's 2v3. I'm just like dead weight. It was armed this is fun.
00:23:39
Speaker
We had fun, though, and made friends along the way. As for the announcements at the partner showcase, we start off with Hunter the Reckoning Deathwish coming out summer 27.
00:23:50
Speaker
It's a vampire hunting game taking place in what looks to be like a modern New York City. um again just the trailer not a lot of details Wuthering Waves is coming to Xbox later this year The Expanse Osiris Reborn we gotta look at that it feels like a Mass Effect game because there's like a lot of choices to make that'll affect stuff and whatnot it comes out spring next year 2027 Grave Seasons takes Stardew Valley, but make it scary in occult presence everywhere. Comes out August 14th.
00:24:20
Speaker
Serious Sam getting a brand new game in its franchise. Shatterverse coming out later this year is a co-op horde shooter roguelike. Then we got the one that I'm most excited for. Strange Into Heaven finally got its first like long detailed trailer.
00:24:35
Speaker
We learned that it's going take place across five eras, five cities, and it seems like a much more brutal Yakuza game. We're getting a lot more details come May 6th as they're doing a very special show specifically for Stranger in Heaven.
00:24:50
Speaker
So I'm looking forward to that specifically. Super B-Boy 3D got its new trailer and release date of March 31st. It comes out ah if you're listening to this on the Monday, it comes out tomorrow.
00:25:04
Speaker
yeah So, yeah. That's a 2D platformer normally, right? Yeah, 2D platformer, one of the hardest platformer games out there. Will make you rage. Compared to Cuphead. Is it harder than Cuphead or no?
00:25:16
Speaker
I would say Super Meat Boy was like the inspiration for Cuphead. I never played it. I never played it. I love Cuphead, but ppe and not Super Meat Boy. Oh, no, it is hard. Super Meat Boy is a very hard platformer.
00:25:29
Speaker
I believe it. ah We also got Forever Ago. This is a new game being published by Annapurna Interactive. This comes out in fall of this year. Ascent to Zero comes out July 13th, a roguelike, very fast-paced action game.
00:25:44
Speaker
Dispatch is coming to Xbox in the summer. ADS Alien Deathstorm comes out sometime next year. Frog Squad will be coming to Xbox when it releases in June. so we have a release window for Frog Squad now, which is very hype.
00:25:58
Speaker
I played the demo of Frog Squad back during Steam Next Fest. It is a very fun... um What's the word i'm looking for? repo-like, where you collect... Ooh, I love repo.
00:26:10
Speaker
Yeah, it's a very much... You're all frogs. So if you like repo and you like frogs, you're going love Frog Squad, and it's done by a team of like former Fall Guy devs. I like Greninja and Farroki. Does that count? I'll take it.
00:26:24
Speaker
oh we that got We're getting a new Bluey game, Bluey's Happy Snaps, coming out fall 2026. That's the kids' show, right? Yes, that is the kids' Australian show. Yeah. ah Stalker 2 Cost of Hope the first expansion for the game coming out summer 26 Musa Dirty Fate coming out sometime next year in 2027 The Eternal Life of Goldman got and god new trailer the demo for the game is out now and the game still comes out later this year Vaunted comes out later this year as well. It's a tactics-like game, sort of like XCOM from what I was able to gather from the gameplay. Hades 2 has its Xbox and PlayStation release date of April 14th.
00:27:06
Speaker
ah You'll be able to play Hades 2 on everything come that day, as currently right now is on Steam and Switch 2 as the console exclusive, timed console exclusive. But April 14th, it will be available on everything. Highly recommend this. This is a fantastic game.
00:27:23
Speaker
honestly, I prefer it much over the first one. And then we ended off with artificial detective, which comes out next year. It's ah you're a, you're robot detective and something's trying to kill the human child that you're with. As you try to find out what happened to humanity.
00:27:39
Speaker
And that was the partner showcase. Yeah, i i not i know I won't lie to you. Like, I i haven't played Xbox in so long. a lot of these games I really haven't heard of a whole lot, but know what? lot of this stuff is new stuff. yeah I will give them that. Like, like yeah a lot of this stuff was, like, world premieres.
00:27:55
Speaker
So, thank you, Xbox. But, like, we'll be waiting for, like, all the hype world premieres at Summer Game Fest happening in a couple months now. hey minecraft live happened as well and they give us a couple updates to some things uh they first started up they started the show with a few more details on the tiny takeover update which is basically the update that's remodeling all of the baby mobs to look like their baby forms uh so chickens are now yellow our little yellow chicks the wolf pups are really adorable the kittens are adorable
00:28:31
Speaker
Tiny pigs, tiny cows, tiny turtles, ah even the hoglins and zombies and all that stuff got updated too. ah Then they announced the Minecraft Experience Villager Rescue. This is a live in-person event that offers various exhibits. They they showed where it's all going to be. and It's taking place like all across the world. And only one U.S. stop in Chicago.
00:28:57
Speaker
oh okay so they're actually going oh okay yeah they're going around with us yeah like pop-up events basically so there's gonna be one in chicago they don't have specific days for that yet and then they said hey minecraft's getting a theme park that's kind of sick actually it kind of is it's called minecraft world it'll be opening up at london's chessington world of adventures next year in 2027 When's it coming to? When is coming here, though? Ask the question, because that sounds sick. It sounds sick. I don't know. that The only question is who would get the right, which theme park would get the rights to open this up?
00:29:34
Speaker
yeah like it That makes the most sense. is yeah yeah Universal's epic world of adventure or whatever it's called. Epic universe. I was there last year. It was really cool. was really cool i not Not just the Mario part, but like in general. The place looks so cool.
00:29:47
Speaker
Oh, it's great. Yeah, it was really, it was like, I mean, the line's really long in Nintendo World, know me wrong. But um but there was this there was this one ride in there. I think it was in Dark World because there's Nintendo World, Dark World, Harry Potter, think. kind taing your Yeah, it's like a whole like section, right? It was like five parts all tied together. Yeah. Yeah, there's one ride um in Dark World. It's this stand-up ride where like you kind of go up and down. it's like It's a simulator. It's like one of those um simulator rides. Okay. And and were like it was like a nine-minute wait.
00:30:21
Speaker
And I was there with my dad. And my dad's like, I'm telling you, but yeah it's a short wait. And my dad's like, Ryan must probably suck. So we went on there. And it was kind of sick. I liked it. Nice. It was like all vampires and stuff. It was cool.
00:30:35
Speaker
Nice. ah They then talked about the new update going to Minecraft. Chaos Cubed Update. This is adding the new Sulphur Cave of Biome, Cinnabar and Sulphur Blocks, and the new mob, the Sulphur Cube, which, if you throw a block at it, it will absorb that block and gain the trace of said block. ah Basically, if you want it to be like hard as a rock, you can feed it like a diamond block.
00:30:58
Speaker
you want it to fly off somewhere, you can... but fill it with something light and shoot it off into outer space. You want it to float? Give it some wood and it'll float on the water. It's kind of a cool little mob that they're adding to the game.
00:31:10
Speaker
And funny things will definitely be done with that. They also announced Minecraft Dungeons 2. ah And that's coming out later this year in 2026. And then this wasn't announced at the show, but it wasn't i was announced just in the last two weeks.
00:31:24
Speaker
The Minecraft Movie 2 cast Alex. It is Kirsten Dunst. I believe MJ from Spider-Man is going to be in Minecraft. So, uh, Jack Black and Kirsten Dunst in the Minecraft movie too.
00:31:39
Speaker
I was afraid to see the Minecraft movie in theaters because of the whole chicken jockey stuff that was going on. I was afraid I wasn't going to beat up or something like that. i like im i haven't seen it yet I haven't seen it yet, but I kind of want to because you know i can see it online now because it's available.
00:31:53
Speaker
It's available online. It's out of theaters. I was just like, I'm looking at these. Someone bought an actual chicken to the to the theater for the chicken jockey I'm like, do I really want to go? I'm like, I'm prop guy.
00:32:08
Speaker
I thought I was going to beat up a show or shower something. I feel like if the second we got a sequel, the first trailer for the sequel, we're going to see spider jockey. That's a thing. The spider jockey was the original jockey.
00:32:21
Speaker
Oh, I never. I mean, I haven't played Minecraft in a while, so. Yeah, it was a skeleton on a spider was the original jockey. And then they're like, hey, what if we put a baby zombie on a chicken? Chicken jockey.
00:32:35
Speaker
Chicken jockey. feel like we're going to see Spider Jockey become the meme with the second one because you know they're they're going to do that. Because if they they have to make as much commotion with the sequel as they did with the first one. or i mean, yeah.
00:32:51
Speaker
they're going to Is someone going to bring in a live spider this time into the frame? Now that... oh know now if that was the case, me fuck that know why complete In more Nintendo news, Tamodachi Life Living the Dream got a brand new overview trailer, giving us a few more details on the island life with your Miis.
00:33:16
Speaker
The more Miis you add, the bigger your island gets. You can make Miis by generating them with questions or obviously making your own. And you have face paint options as well where you can paint over your Miis face if you want to make like fucking bluey on your Miis.
00:33:29
Speaker
can because i saw that on twitter um make friends by becoming acquaintances first uh you can set prior relations with your mis like if you want to add your let's say you're a brother and sister you couldn't do this in the original and sometimes you just ended up with incest uh they made sure that like hey is art is this me related to somebody on the island already you can say yes and then you can put in what their relation is. So that way you don't get freaky deaky in the family.
00:33:59
Speaker
That sounds messed up. I never played Tomodachi life, but now, wow. Sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt you. Sorry. It was only one of the, it was one of the only things that like was like an issue with the first Tomodachi life.
00:34:12
Speaker
Uh, and the demo is out now. I played the demo. lot of fun. You can make three Mies. Your data carries over. And if you play it, you get a hamster suit. Uh, the game releases April 16th.
00:34:23
Speaker
Uh, and already online, I see on my Twitter timeline, the first, like, when you be make friends with a Mie, it's like, what should I talk about with this guy so I can become friends with them?
00:34:35
Speaker
Well, you can put literally anything. There is no filter. Oh, no. they are Want to talk about the Epstein files? Dude, I've wanted to talk about the Epstein files for like a long time. Hell yeah.
00:34:50
Speaker
Best friends. This reminds me of that ah what that one game. um What's it called? That that really bad Nintendo game. ah one two Everybody 1-2 Switch were that little that. That also had note filled that thatley had no filter.
00:35:03
Speaker
I saw some clips online. i was like, oh my God, this game looks stupid as hell. And I'm not buying it. yeah But it's pretty Did you ever play the original Tabodachi Life, Dan?
00:35:14
Speaker
I never played Tabodachi Life at all, actually. i I'll be really honest. um i know it has something to do with your Miis. I know that, but that's really it. Isn't that the trailer with like the big Mi at like the end of the trailer? Yeah, it's that game. No, never played it. No, I guess I have.
00:35:30
Speaker
I really would recommend it. I love the first Tamodachi Life. Probably a top 50 game of all time for me. ah It's somewhere in there. I would have to go back to list all the games I've played to figure out what those top 50 games would be. But it's definitely in there. ah So I'm very excited for ah this to come out as a guy who's been waiting for years to see a sequel to that.
00:35:52
Speaker
ah Very excited that I only have to wait a couple, three more weeks? Three more weeks! Aww!
00:36:00
Speaker
That's a... I'll fly by. You're good. ah In update news, the next round of free characters for Sonic Race and Cross Worlds were announced. In April, you're getting red from Angry Birds.
00:36:16
Speaker
yeah You're also getting Goro Majima from Yakuza, specifically his pirate Yakuza look. He also releases in April. And we're getting Arl from Puyo Puyo in May. And also we're getting a bunch of Sega racing and variety music tracks.
00:36:32
Speaker
ah so all those arcade racing games that Sega had they're putting a lot of those tracks into the game as well yeah Mega Man yeah Mega Man dropped yesterday well Mega Man and Proto Man dropped yesterday too DLC which also means we'll probably be seeing who the next paid DLC characters are as we now have all the paid DLC that they've announced and there's still like TMNT TMNT and Avatar right those are who are next I forgot about those yeah By the way, I was playing it yesterday on stream and Mega Man on the board looks, he looks odd.
00:37:06
Speaker
He looks very long. and and Not tall, but long Yes, not tall, but long. If you looked at this model in the game, he's not tall. He's long. That's how going to describe it. It's odd on the board. Good to know.
00:37:21
Speaker
Uh, In a series news, the first trailer for the Sekiro animated series released. It will be airing on Crunchyroll, which is cool. I'm not a big Sekiro guy, but cool for the people who care.
00:37:34
Speaker
The free trial period for the Nintendo Switch 2's Game Chat ends at the end of the month on March 31st, meaning that Game Chat will only be accessible to those with NSO starting April 1st.
00:37:48
Speaker
that the The feature that probably no Discord user has ever used. and what then ah I can, you know, what it's why I read that. like, Oh yeah. Game chat's a thing.
00:38:01
Speaker
Subnautica 2 will be out in early access in May. they're excited to see that. Uh, NVIDIA. Oh no. My friends and I saw this at a get together recently. We saw the video of the comparison.
00:38:16
Speaker
it
00:38:18
Speaker
It looks like someone generd the generated the whole thing in like Sora or some shit. So NVIDIA unveiled DLSS 5, which is taking AI to a new level that literally nobody likes. Honestly. Like they showed it with Resident Evil Requiem and Capcom said, we had no clue they were going fucking do this. What the fuck do you mean they're doing this? While the video reps claim that DLSS 5 represents the most significant breakthrough in computer graphics since the debut of real-time ray tracing in 2018, quote unquote, observers were quick to point it out that the technology was significantly altering the artistic intent of the developers and not for the better.
00:38:59
Speaker
ah No one likes this. NVIDIA is like, well, we want you guys to like it. Why don't it? And it's just like, I don't know. Stop using AI.
00:39:10
Speaker
Yeah. it' the genniatorist In a generative sense. like Obviously, AI tools are going to be here because they make things ah certain things better. Stop with the gen AI. It's not good.
00:39:22
Speaker
Yeah, it's like AI is good in terms of like a tool, but like in terms of what NVIDIA is doing, like I think as you said, um yeah, man, it's it's kind of what you said basically. And not ai and the bad AI has kind of been like, you know, overshadowing a lot of things and their bubbles finally bursting.
00:39:40
Speaker
What was that game that released that had all AI voice actors? What was that game? Oh, there's a couple. I don't know. And they've realized like, hey, this shit is not good. We're going to not use this.
00:39:52
Speaker
Oh, um I do know that Arc Raiders did come out to say that, ah for those who don't know, Arc Raiders did use AI voicing, but more of like they built AI voice banks to like, from the actors themselves to like make voice lines for future updates so they didn't have to bring in the voice actors. Yeah, they scrapped that and they're now just bringing in the voice actors again.
00:40:12
Speaker
good. For future updates if they need more lines from them. I think that's what you're thinking about. okay, gotcha. Because like... the AI voices are not going to sound better than the actual thing. That's just not going to happen. The only AI voice that sounds good is Hatsune Miku. Good point. Good point. That's not even AI. That's a vocal bag. Yeah. You're not going to get that, like, what's the word? Like, that...
00:40:39
Speaker
feeling from actual voice actors like you know they can actually put more feeling than just a robot saying it it's just it's a cut it's common not that's a common argument and it makes total sense like I'm not you know it's a horrible I did use a voices for a game and voice AI voice acting rather for anything honestly not just games Shinobi Art of Vengeance will release its Sega Villains DLC on April 3rd. This will add Robotnik, Majima, and Death Adder from Goldenecks as extra bosses along with five new stages, six music tracks, and two new boss rushing modes to the game.
00:41:12
Speaker
thirdfield Starfield had a bunch of announcements happen. All of this stuff is taking place on April 7th. One, it's coming to PlayStation 5 finally. Two, the price for the game is lowering.
00:41:24
Speaker
Three, and the Terran Armada expansion will be releasing. And four, the Free Lanes update, which will allow players to pilot ships seamlessly between planets and star system, along with some other various quality of life changes will be added as well.
00:41:39
Speaker
Also, Bethesda says that the they will the primary focus of the studio now is finally Elder Scrolls VI. I heard a lot of... Was that the game that like everyone's begging for like a remake? No, not Elder Scrolls. That's Bloodborne. Yeah, that's Bloodborne.
00:41:56
Speaker
i never played Elder Scrolls. youve never You never played Skyrim? Nope. Wow. i'm i'm I'm a very two-dimensional gamer, but i but I do have friends who do play like those games. mean, it's all this Miss 2 now.
00:42:09
Speaker
So it was on the Switch 1, wasn't it, as well? Yeah, it's got to resume on everything. It's had like 10 releases over it's like the decade it's been now. It's had like 10, 20 releases. iOS? Possibly! That's that's its next four-way. The second we can play Skyrim on iOS, we can play Skyrim on the smart with smart fridge.
00:42:30
Speaker
There was a point in time where like every game released on every single console. It was crazy. It was funny. Not plenty, but it was very funny. In funny Steam game news, two games on Steam released around the same time with the exact same name.
00:42:45
Speaker
I heard about that. Piece by Piece by Gamcat is a cozy management sim running a repair shop. And Neon Polygon's Piece by Piece, which came out after, is a puzzle platformer whose levels are devoted to puzzle pieces.
00:43:00
Speaker
Both teams communicate with each other, support each other. And you you know what? They came together and they made a piece by piece bundle that you can get on Steam. I saw currently discounted right now.
00:43:13
Speaker
of well I say right now, for it was discounted for the spring sale, I think. ah Okay. Yeah, it's going right I have played and completed both. I can say that both are great games in their own right. Speaking of like funny theme games, have you heard of the Pix, the, the, the Picmon trailer thing? Oh, right. Yes. I didn't want to talk. I didn't have this. I didn't put it in because it's like, Hey, have you ever copied your homework off of somebody who copied their, who copied the homework off of someone else?
00:43:41
Speaker
And you got it wrong. And you got it wrong. That's basically, dude, Cerule Edge. It's just through the the the the point, the part in the trailer where you see Cerule Edge, um that one of the Scarlet and the Mio Pokemon, and they didn't even change Cerule Edge. It's just Cerule Edge in that game.
00:43:57
Speaker
and Look, like the Pal World lawsuit, the Pal World lawsuit may be like not a great one. This one, this one's going to, lawsuit is going to lose.
00:44:08
Speaker
They're cooked. They're cooked. So Pal World and Pokemon could be like, same enemy, same enemy. Shake hands real quick. Sue the fuck out of them. And then go back to their lawsuit.
00:44:20
Speaker
Like, hold up. Time out. Time out, Judge. Time out. A duel has to be kept of put on hold. Here comes Nintendo from the top ring! Yeah, so yeah, that's Pikmon.
00:44:34
Speaker
yeah ah In Pokemon Go news, turns out all the data that Niantic had been collecting from Pokemon Go is now trading robots. ah This news comes from Niantic's Niantic Spatials announcements announcement of a new partnership with Coco Robotics, which has developed an urban robot designed to deliver food through complex urban landscapes.
00:44:57
Speaker
Coco Robotics will be learning on Niantic's expertise in spatial AI and its visual positioning system, VPU. vps to further improve Coco robot Robotics titular delivery robot Coco, a fleet of around 1,000 flight case-sized robots built to carry up to eight extra large pizzas or four grocery bags deployed in Los Angeles, Chicago, Jersey City, Miami, and Helsinki.
00:45:24
Speaker
Hey, I'm one of those. I ah live in a state that's one in Jersey. Basically, if you've ever taken a photo with the Pokemon Go app to like, oh, snap a photo with your Pokemon or like have added a camera on on yeah at all.
00:45:43
Speaker
It's basically taking all that stuff And giving it to the robots, if you're like, hey, here's how the roads are designed. ah Here's like the best optimal place for you to like park or like, like, because instead of like parking like a random spot close, it's like to improve accuracy of like where they and how they move and how the terrain is around these urban sprawl zones.
00:46:06
Speaker
I haven't played Pokemon Go in a while. It's kind of cool. it's It's not like this. is so It's not like a i not saying this is like a bad thing at all. um this it's ah It's a very interesting way of how they're using like all that data of like how we like basically like remade Google Maps within Pokemon Go, and except we made it a bit more accurate and they're now able to take that better accuracy and put it into delivery robots.
00:46:30
Speaker
i mean, it's cool and weird at the same time. Yes, absolutely. Yes. It absolutely is. Jackbox Games has gotten into game publishing and they announced the first game that they'll be publishing is called My Arms Are Longer Now. It is being developed by Two Games. This surreal game is about a very long arm that does crimes.
00:46:52
Speaker
It's the brainchild of Matthew Jackson and Millie Holton, two comedians based out of Melbourne, Australia. So basically the message of the game is be long, do crime.
00:47:03
Speaker
Do belong. So it's what's his not Captain America. ah Mr. Fantastic. Yes. Basically. Yeah. ah The Space Marine to chapter voice pack one, which added new voice lines and face options to the game and was only five bucks was not reviewed. Well, in fact, it was reviewed so poorly. The devs refunded everybody who bought it, made an apology on X and made the DLC free for all.
00:47:31
Speaker
And also probably halted other plans for them to do more packs like that. Oh, boy. Yeah. In layoff news, Ubisoft laid off 105 people at RedStorm, the studio that co-founded ah that was co-founded 30 years ago by Tom Clancy.
00:47:49
Speaker
RedStorm itself will remain open. A VGC report says that it will operate going forward as an IT and Snowdrop engine support studio. Big yikes. What the fuck? I'm not... I'm never a fan those whenever a company has to go through layoffs. You know what means? No one ever. No one ever is.
00:48:05
Speaker
All of those people that were laid off are going to go make another studio and it's going sweep the game awards. going to make Claire Obscure 34. No, they're going to make a tom like so essentially like the most ultimate successor to a Tom Clancy game that we could ever imagine and it's going to sweep the game awards. Yeah, because wasn't Claire Obscure made by ex-Ubisoft employees? yep Yep. 33 ex-Ubisoft employees. oh That's an indie crew and a half. That's an indie crew and a half, yeah. yeah So, 105? Imagine what they could do. They're as talented, yeah.
00:48:40
Speaker
Yeah. Beta is closing the VR version of Horizon Worlds on June 15th this year. As of March 31st, it will be disappearing from the Quest store. Charlie Cox announced that he is now taking part in another video game project. After the success that he saw with Clarif Skrur Expedition 33, he's like, huh, I guess I should expand my roles and do it more. good this.
00:49:05
Speaker
So congrats. Good for you, Charlie Cox. Welcome to our world. ah The Hitman series, TV series that was it announced nine years ago air on Hulu has officially died. The John Wick creator, Derek Kolstad, who is down as an executive producer and writer on the project, recently made the announcement that the project is dead.
00:49:28
Speaker
Yikes. Ooh. In some Digimon news, because DigimonCon happened, Digimon Story Time Stranger announced it's working on a new expansion DLC set for 2027. I'm very excited for that. I love Time Stranger. It was my runner-up for Game of the Year ah last year. it was It's such a great game.
00:49:47
Speaker
Would recommend. And now we're getting a full expansion for it. So more Digimon content next year. Woo! Woo! youmon digital money i remember i I never played Digimon, but I know the theme song, and it's kind of a banger, honestly. And also, a new mobile game, Digimon Up, was announced, and that comes out later this year. As for what the game is, I don't have full details yet.
00:50:08
Speaker
Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics announced another wave of layoffs following a restructure that began last year. 20 more employees have been affected from that. Ooh.
00:50:20
Speaker
Sony has canceled the car that it was making with Honda called the Afila. I think I've heard about that. Yeah, the cancellation of the Afila project wasn't due to any specific issues with the car itself, but rather a result of Honda's reassessment of its automobile electrification strategy announced on March 12th.
00:50:40
Speaker
Sony and Honda said that in a joint statement. ah Here's the AI story. OpenAI discontinued Sora Video Generation app, and Disney pulled out of a $1 billion dollar investment deal with OpenAI. i Thank God.
00:50:54
Speaker
Well, step in the right direction. billion-dollar step, but it's a step. Yes. ah Nintendo will soon release a version of the Nintendo Switch 2 with batteries you can replace to make it...
00:51:05
Speaker
but much more easier to do it yourself but this is only in the european union thanks to the eu's rights to repair bill never use well it's in the it's in european union so i'm not going to be defy that but uh yeah i never use i never use handheld mode anyway handheld mode anyways so well i do but like very rarely though In MMORPG news, Final Fantasy XIV's Hatching Tide event is currently underway until April 6th. Rewards include five glam headwear, five bits of eyeglasses, five pieces of furniture, amongst other things.
00:51:38
Speaker
Also, ah coming up soon is the next Moogle Tombstone event because ah the new update is coming out in the end of April.
00:51:49
Speaker
ah In Fortnite Epic Games news, Epic has laid off a thousand employees. i literally saw that before we but but before we started this podcast. Like literally 10 minutes before I saw that on YouTube shorts.
00:52:02
Speaker
That's actually nuts. This is in response to industry-wide challenges, quote, unquote, and a, quote, downturn in Fortnite engagement that started in 2025, end quote. This also comes after Epic increased the price of V-Bucks on March 19th, and three game modes of Fortnite are shutting down as well. Rocket Racing, which shuts down in October, Ballistic, and Festival Battle Stage, which are both shutting down April sixteenth Ooh, yeah, i'm'm I'm not a Fortnite guy, but that's actually kind of terrible.
00:52:34
Speaker
well I feel bad for the fucking thousand people that got laid off. Like, holy shit, that is a lot. people That is a lot. This is like probably one of the biggest layoffs that isn't like a whole studio shutting down that we've seen in gaming history.
00:52:52
Speaker
It's one of the biggest that we've seen in gaming history ever. I see yeah i see it as a thousand families, honestly. Even worse. Yeah. ah In gotcha game news, legit just found this like when I say minutes before recording this, mean minutes before recording this, a new web based entirely free gotcha game based on McDonald's Happy Meals and the toys you get from them has dropped is a web based game entirely free to play is called Mcgotcha.
00:53:23
Speaker
Knee slapper. You can collect literally, I think it's like almost or very close to every toy that's ever been released in a Happy Meal.
00:53:34
Speaker
You can collect. even ah Even the founding Nemo ones? Yes. Oh, I remember as a kid, core memory, I remember as a kid, I had almost all of them except the Dory one. I axed and they said, we're not doing anymore. Like, damn it.
00:53:48
Speaker
but now I hate McDonald's, but I don't like McDonald's. I think their food's kind of ass now. Their food tastes like legit. I think their food kind of tastes like cardboard. I don't know what it is. It's just not good. and It's not what it used to. i mean mean i don't really eat fast food in general, honestly. so ah Moving on to TCG news in the world of Pokemon. Mega Evolution Perfect Order is out right now and Mega Evolution Chaos Rising releases May 22nd.
00:54:12
Speaker

And in the Digimon TCG, Digimon Generation, the booster packs are out now. And that is everything in the week in review. Any final thoughts on any of the stories there, Dan?
00:54:52
Speaker
Oh, it's a lot. It's a lot. I mean, there's a bonus that I really know of a lot. The AI thing and the layoffs is obviously the biggest one. That's crazy. one A thousand freaking employees is crazy.
00:55:04
Speaker
Yeah. Well, that's the big s to make standout for me. oh I was like, God damn. I don't mean to laugh, but like it's it's like it's crazy. ah Well, um to take a look ahead and see all the games that are coming out within the next two weeks. Here's what should be all your radar from March 30th to April 10th.
00:55:20

On the second, Cursed Woods comes to the PC as well as i Am Jesus Christ. That's a funny name. Darwin's Paradox comes to the PS5 Series X Switch 2 and PC. Motion Wreck comes to the PS5 and Switch.
00:56:09
Speaker
No games on the 3rd or the 6th, but on the 7th, People of Note comes to the PS5 Series X Switch 2 and PC. Starfield gets its PS5 release, and TR-49 comes to the Switch.
00:56:20
Speaker
On the 8th, Chainstaff comes to everything but the Switch 2. The House of Hickma comes to the PC. The Occultist comes to the PS5 Series X and PC. Pokemon Champions comes to the Switch.
00:56:31
Speaker
Yeah. 9th, Beyond Words comes to the PS5 Series X, Switch a PC, and Sunken Sky comes to the PC. And on the 10th, Tiny Bookshop gets its PS5 release.
00:56:42
Speaker
And that's everything. I might get... might look at I Am Jesus Christ just because of the name. i Honestly. Honestly, same. ah As for your big releases, South of Midnight won Game... Oh, God, what is it?
00:56:57
Speaker
games of Games for Impact Award at the last Game Awards. um It was an Xbox exclusive. It's the one where you're in the bayou. ah That leaving exclusivity and coming to PlayStation and Switch. Kind of cool. Good to see that. Love to see that.
00:57:11
Speaker
Go Sim 3. Great game. Go play it. It's coming to Switch 2. it'll probably break your switch too because of how fucking hard that shit runs. All that work for the making a powerful console for what, Yeah. Darwin's Paradox is the Konami game where you play as an octopus.
00:57:28
Speaker
That finally releases. That one looks really cool. Definitely check that one out. ah People of Note is a new RPG that ah takes inspiration from Paper Mario and Clare of Skor with doing inputs before your attack. There is no parry or dodge system, though. It's just, oh, input before your attack.
00:57:49
Speaker
um What else? What else? Aside from the ones that we have that we've talked about already. That's fine. Beyond Words. This is a cool one. I played the demo for it during Steam Next Fest. This is being done by the original creators of TimeSplitters.
00:58:03
Speaker
It is a roguelike Scrabble. And Tiny Bookshop is a really cool game I played last year where you run a tiny bookshop and it's coming to PlayStation 5. Definitely give that a look if you're into cozy games and shop sim games.
00:58:16
Speaker
And those are the games that I would recommend. Any games that interest you there, Dan, aside from Jesus Christ? Pokemon Champions, but we talked about that earlier. Yeah, I haven't really heard of any of these. No shade to anyone likes these games. I've never heard of most of these games, honestly, but... Damn.
00:58:35
Speaker
ah Well, with that, it's now time for us to dive into our main focus here in the Game Lounge. Let's dive into what we're talking about week.
00:58:45
Speaker
Conversations of past and future games, the state of the gaming industry, how big decisions affect gamers, and anything else that's important to us. Here's what's going down this week in the Game Lounge. And our first topic of the day.
00:58:59
Speaker
Mario and Sonic are coming back to theaters. The Mario movie is only a couple days away. If you're listening to this on the Monday, it comes out in theaters on Wednesday. And we did get a new teaser trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
00:59:13
Speaker
We're going to talk both of those, but starting with the Mario movie. Dan, are you seeing the Mario movie in theaters? Hell yeah. I'm seeing it the weekend of... um I'm excited. i mean, Mario Galaxy, I mean, it makes sense. Obviously, this is obviously isn in Mario's 40th anniversary, so it makes sense to have like a a big thing for this year with the Mario movie, just basing it off of...
00:59:36
Speaker
you know one of the best games, not the best game in the franchise. I mean, my my favorite game is Odyssey, but either way, um, I think it's great, great timing. Um, and i would say Rosalina looks really good. Bowser looks really good. I'm surprised they put Wonder Bowser Jr. in there. I saw that when I saw the first show, I'm like, why are they putting, I mean, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not complaining because Wonder Bowser Jr. looks sick.
01:00:01
Speaker
Um, but yeah, I'm excited. And, uh, That's all I got to say. I'm just excited. I'm ready to see. I'm seeing with the friends. So yeah, I'm good i'm i'm ready. I'm ready. Yeah, but I'm excited. I don't know when I'll be seeing it, but I'm definitely going to try to go see it in theaters.
01:00:18
Speaker
Do you have any predictions for the movie? I think that Wario is going to make an after-crediting appearance. That's my that's my that's my prediction. As long as it's not Waluigi. If it's Waluigi, I'm going to boo in the theater. why do you Are you a Waluigi hater? Very much so. he has i have a i had childhood trauma against that man. his this i think he's ugly.
01:00:41
Speaker
No, I don't like a Waluigi. I never liked them. I'm lazy. Yeah. Okay. So if both but what if both appear in the end credits scene instead it just being Wario or just being Waluigi? What if it's both of them appearing in the end credits?
01:00:52
Speaker
I won't boo, but it's only Waluigi. I'll boo. but Or if they reveal Wario first and then when Luigi goes second, the second he appears on the screen, I'm like, oh, boo. who else Who else can they add on? I mean, they probably can add a lot. but like I mean, there's a lot, but like I think for like major characters, those are the last two, I think, that like we haven't seen.
01:01:13
Speaker
because we see that don't need daiszy Daisy, Daisy, Daisy. Oh, Daisy. Yeah. That would be hype. That'd be hype. That'd be hype. No, what actually, that would be more hype. Yeah. Daisy is the best princess, honestly. Hey, Mario, we need you in Sarasa land.
01:01:28
Speaker
Oh, how long Daisy? Yeah. If they if they make her say hi, Andy, that's good. That's that. Oh, wait, actually, yo, that would be down the line right there in the movie. yo what That would be good. That would be pretty funny.
01:01:43
Speaker
Um, you know what? Those are like pretty good. for I've got nothing else. Cause like, I really got like no other predictions of like the movie, a lot unless because of a certain character that was revealed, which we'll get to in a second. Uh, they tease something else potentially.
01:02:01
Speaker
I want get to eat that. Yeah. Yeah. that That's my only other prediction, but we'll get to that when we get to that other character. Uh, other question for you. Do you think there will be a childish Gambino song used in the end credits because they got Donald Glover to voice Yoshi?
01:02:15
Speaker
I think it's a very first off, Donald Glover playing Yoshi is very funny. not i'm that' I'm not saying it's a bad thing. It's fine. That's cool. That's a cool. That's a cool. It's a cool casting, but it's very funny. It it absolutely is because it's like, you know, Donald Glover, you should recognize his voice and shit. And it's just like you have him going.
01:02:35
Speaker
Yes. The entire movie is so funny. Yeah, when I first saw it, was like, oh, it doesn't sound like him. But at the same time, I'm like, wait, anybody making a Yoshi sound? Yeah, exactly. It's like anybody making a Yoshi sound could be any. Oh, that's a good one. God damn. It was a good one. But like anybody could voice Yoshi. And it's funny that it's like just just big name celebrities. I thought they were just going to use Charles Martin to voice Yoshi.
01:03:03
Speaker
Nah, they wouldn't do that. No not no no shading in Charles Martin A, but they want the big names. They want the big names these movies. And they do have big names. They do have big names. Both movies. not Not just the second one. Now, it also makes me question of, like, do you think they'll do the gag where at the very end of the movie, Yoshi speaks normally and they have Donald Glover voice him like that? That'd be funny. I would i would actually laugh hysterically at that.
01:03:24
Speaker
But would Nintendo be bold enough to do that? i don't know, but that'd be funny. Okay, now the next question is regarding the sales of the Mario movie. Do you think the Mario Galaxy movie will outsell the Mario movie?
01:03:38
Speaker
Yes, I think it will. Because the previous, hour again, i could be wrong, but because the first movie did wonders, obviously, in in the box office. It crushed the box office. It made records for video game movies everywhere.
01:03:54
Speaker
But sequels, especially since it's Mario Galaxy, like it's mar like Mario Galaxy, that's really, that's a really good pick. But um another point is that the previous holder, well, actually, i think Mario movie passed Frozen 2 as the most sold, and and but most box office anime movie, I think. I don't remember exactly, but like,
01:04:17
Speaker
And Frozen 2 is a sequel. This is sequel. So no and who knows? I think it will. And that'd be sick. You know, we get room for a third movie then. Maybe a fourth and a fifth. Maybe a sixth. don't know. But we'll see. No, Super Mario Bros. did not pass Frozen 2. It did not. It did not. I'm looking at the list. It is the sixth highest grossing animated film of all time.
01:04:38
Speaker
What are the other the five besides Frozen 2? So Frozen 2 is at 5. Lion King is at 4. i his eye out is that two zootopia two sorry it Inside Out two is Zootopia is Zootopia 2 is at 2. And Neysha 2 is number 1.
01:04:53
Speaker
By like a fucking 400 million... four hundred billion dollar different difference. and i thought i I was wrong. I thought it passed. oh no no and what it was I think it had a better opening. Super Mario Super Mario Super Mario movie passed Frozen because Frozen is number seven.
01:05:12
Speaker
ah Okay, and that makes sense. I thought it had like a better opening. It is sandwiched between the Frozens. So the Mario Galaxy movie could, if it does 1.5 worldwide grossing, 1.5 billion worldwide grossing, it will pass Frozen 2.
01:05:27
Speaker
Yeah, I think it'll do that. They've got the star power. They have the... No pun intended. Ha! ah Real knee slapper there! Ha! um Yeah, they've got the star power, obviously. They have the animation. I mean, the animation the first movie was great, and it's only to look better in this movie because Mario Galaxy is just... You're going to be in space. That has room and potential for a lot of good visuals, and yeah, that's also something I'm excited for, too. So...
01:05:57
Speaker
Yes. Okay. Now the big thing. Legit. Earlier today, David recorded his podcast. Nintendo officially revealed Fox fucking McCloud is real. Like, now, there was a silhouette of him in one of the trailers. They were like, is that Fox McCloud? Turns out it is. So, he's in this movie. Star Fox is here.
01:06:19
Speaker
thought it was AI. That's where the post they posted. thought was AI. Yeah.
01:06:25
Speaker
and It's kind of crazy that this is happening. Who do you think is going to voice Fox McCloud? all Oh, my God. i don't Let's think. ah I don't watch a lot of movies. don't know any crazy actors.
01:06:42
Speaker
I don't know. Robert Downey Jr.? oh ha ha if this rdj i swear to god that would be that would be a crazy cast not a bad choice but that would be a crazy one i and i we r j actually i would see rdj as a falco not gonna lie i think he would suit a falco better than captain america what's his name chris evans as a uh as fox you know he has a good leader voice Yeah, I can see it. He voiced Bugs Loughier for crying out loud.
01:07:16
Speaker
True. I heard that movie sucked, though. i don't know. I've never watched it. A lot of mixed things on that movie. Yeah, I never saw it. A light year. Yeah. ah No, but it's kind of nuts. And this is why I'm like, maybe what if that the end credits thing, you see a master hand in the distance?
01:07:37
Speaker
Final Destination Rises. And Mario goes, I guess it's time to get a smashing. God. I don't know how I feel about a Smash Bros movie. on i think it's that the what I don't know I feel about that, honestly. like It'd be cool, but, like, how would that work?
01:07:55
Speaker
I mean, like... You put the Mario and the Fox and the Pikachus and the Kirby and the Luigi. Yeah, basically make the Nintendo Cinematic Universe. You've already got Pokemon because you take Detective Pikachu. So that way you have a voiced Pikachu. I'm surprised it hasn't gotten a sequel yet. I mean, honestly, the movie ended better than the games did.
01:08:19
Speaker
I never played the Pikachu, but saw the movie though. And it was, a it wasn't, fun it was a fun movie. If there was a movie, did how the second game ended. Basically ah the second game is awful. Like, fuck, holy shit. ah Like i was like, they, it, yeah.
01:08:34
Speaker
Like the ending was fine because the ending was kind of like what we expected it to be from the first, cause obviously the first game is on a cliffhanger. And it's like, Oh, I hope you see a sequel to this so it could end properly. Then the movie came out and like, edit did it properly. It's like, well, what about the game? And then they released the sequel and it was a lot of like, this is kind of shit. Not going to lie. Bad on switch.
01:08:54
Speaker
The, the, the new one, Dr. Pikachu. Yeah. The, the, the new detective Pikachu, it's switch one. And the first game, the first detective Pikachu was on the three DS. And I'm surprised they didn't decide to just port that over. So that way people could see the full fucking story.
01:09:09
Speaker
Anyways, you take Detective Pikachu, you take Mario, Luigi, and Fox, you take Link, the live-action Link that they're making for the Zelda movie, and Zelda, you cartoonify them by putting them in a wormhole or something.
01:09:21
Speaker
ah You take Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. Oh my god. ah ah You need Kirby. You just need Kirby. You need Kirby, you need Samus, you have Yoshi,
01:09:35
Speaker
Jigglypuff? Captain Falcon? Yeah, you just need those four. I mean, you take Jigglypuff from the Detective Pikachu world. So you just need S-Zero, you need Metroid, and you need Earthbound.
01:09:47
Speaker
and i think It feels overwhelming a little in a sense. It feels overwhelming in a sense, a Smash Bros. movie. Like, all yeah you're throwing a lot at me right now. you know Not you specifically, if they do it its exactly. like They're throwing a lot at you. So I don't know. as It design seems a little overwhelming a Smash Bros. movie. At least not now. Maybe in a decade or so, but I don't know how I feel about that. Honestly, I think I love Smash Bros. Again, it's my ultimate favorite game of all time for me, but it's just overwhelming. It feels like it's a movie for me. It can be.
01:10:18
Speaker
ah i mean, like looking at the trailers for like the Street Fighter movie that's coming out, it's kind of overwhelming because of how crazy everybody looks. and with all these, like, actors who that are in it. It's just like, Jesus Christ! they have a lot of characters in Street Fighter 2, right? I never i never played a Street Fighter game, but... Well, yeah, I have. I played one of the classic ones. But ah i I have a lot of characters in that key those games... It was like adapting like when you do games that like adopt like such an ensemble cast that you like have it to like built up over movies like like the Fast series has or anything. It can be overwhelming because it's just like, oh, this is a lot of information for my brain at once.
01:10:59
Speaker
A lot video game movies being... And i'm I'm all for it. like i'm I'm down for these like big IPs. As long as the movies are good, of course. But I'm down for these big IPs making ah these movies. you know the mario movie well The one Mario movie we had was really good.
01:11:12
Speaker
ah This new movie they were getting, it it's it's looking really good. um The Sonic movies... on we'll get i'm assuming i'm assuming we're go I'm assuming we'll get to that. But the saw all three, as the Sonic movies released, they've been only been getting better and better. like Sonic 3 was...
01:11:28
Speaker
I love Sonic 3. It's such the the big movie or the game too, but like the movie specifically, um, that movie was great. Like it was like a, it it felt like a love letter. And just like the second movie, it felt like I was watching cut scenes from a Sonic game, which is, I think how it should feel when you watch movies. Cause Sonic cut scenes.
01:11:46
Speaker
and Well, not all of them, the story, but the story is good in lot of Sonic games too. So, ah Do you have any critiques from the first Mario film that you want them to try to avoid for the second? It did feel... The movie did feel like it was a bunch of great scenes just meshed together.
01:12:03
Speaker
um Because there were some like low points. There were some points in the movie where kind of low points a little bit, like kind of boring parts. And I kind of like... If I was watching on streaming service, I'd be like, all I'm going to skip that part, go to the other part.
01:12:13
Speaker
um But... Not a whole lot of complaints overall. and see I just thought it was a solid, fun movie. you know I saw it with my friends when it came out, and we just had a fun time. We just thought, like yeah, this movie this movie kind of slaps.
01:12:28
Speaker
Anything else you want to add to the Mario movie ah before we move on to the de Sonic side of the movies? I wonder what song that Bowser's going to play in the end. Oh my god, you're right! What's going to be the sequel to Peaches?
01:12:43
Speaker
You're right, I completely forgot about that. If we don't get one, I will actually be disappointed. I think Jack Black, it's contractually obligated for have to have Jack Black sing a song at the end of every movie. don't know that's an actual thing, but it feels like I've had something, honestly. feel like, I wonder if it is, like, genuinely, wonder if Jack Black, when he signs these contracts, is like, ah, ah, ah, the music clause. I mean, in Conflipan 4, they had the Hit Me Baby one more time in that.
01:13:11
Speaker
Oh my God, you're right. Yo, Jack Black covers a Childish Gambino song. Of course. Oh God. That'd be hysterical, actually. We're Childish Gambino in the freaking movie. No, that's how it's going to be. It's going be Jack Black covering a Childish Gambino song. Jack Black's going to cover Redbone. Let's go.
01:13:35
Speaker
And then Donald Glover in the background like, the fuck?
01:13:40
Speaker
ah ah I'm excited now. Okay. Sonic movie four. We got a brand new teaser trailer dropped and the movie comes out next year. That's all we know. The only other things we know is Amy is in this movie and Amy is being voiced by Kristen Bell.
01:13:57
Speaker
Great casting, by the way. That's a so a solid pick. and and And a lot of fans seem to agree to. What do we think the plot will be aside from probably some, a lot. I feel like going a lot of heavy references to Sonic CD with this movie because we're getting both Amy and metal.
01:14:16
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, it makes sense that CD is going to be the primary source of this movie because, well, one, ah those that bad game, both Amy and Metal Sonic made their debuts in. So um that's a good start yeah because the only other game I can really think of that would be the main inspiration would be Heroes because that's... I feel like we don't have enough of a cast for Heroes yet, though. No, like, no, not like cast, to heat not the whole cast. So just like, oh, but like, just like a plot light of like ah airships and shit.
01:14:47
Speaker
Yeah, because like, that's the only other game where those two characters are both appearing in and play major roles besides CD, of course. But um I think CD is a good start and for that, um for the for this movie to have a good ah what's it called?
01:15:02
Speaker
reference have it all based on that um i think it's gonna have to do a time travel probably because that is a part that is a mechanic in cd as well um and that kind of me like the maybe we get silver and sonic for after credit scene that'd be kind of sick that would be cool because it's like they mess with time travel once which is what alerts silver to their presence and then it's like there's the silver post credit scene and whatnot and that would be cool Because that is like, okay, so you know for Sonic 5, they're going take heavy heavy inspiration for 06.
01:15:36
Speaker
Yeah, which is like better or for worse. better I feel like they would definitely make it better because they'd be able to improve on the 06 formula, which I'm not saying the 06 formula was bad. It was just very...
01:15:50
Speaker
janky it wasn't finished yeah yeah like I don't think like 06 is a bad game it's horrible for me personally 06 is like a guilty pleasure I like playing because it doesn't make fun of it but um back to the Sonic CD the only thing that concerns me because i like Sonic CD. I think it's a good game.
01:16:08
Speaker
The only thing that concerns me is that it's the only game, at least in my opinion, only game in the franchise that's been represented in the in the movies because Sonic one was just based on Sonic one. Obviously, Sonic two was based on Sonic three and Knuckles.
01:16:24
Speaker
Weirdly. Yeah, it was like Sonic two with Sonic three. And it was like those. It was like the basically the rest of the two, d the the last two core 2D games of two and two and three Knuckles. Yeah, and then Sonic 3 was based on Sonic Adventure 2, funny enough. Yeah, you skip it as your one. Yeah, it makes sense, because shadows Shadow is like the most popular Sonic character. yeah sonic But like at the same time, because the differences between CD and those three games, at least in my opinion, is that those first three games I mentioned, Sonic 1 and Sonic 3 Knuckles and Sonic Adventure 2, those are fan-favorite games. like Those fans love those. Sonic 1, not as much. i its i mean, it's the first game of series, so you've got to include that, obviously. But... um
01:17:03
Speaker
those three games are fan favorites galore. Sonic and Knuckles, Sonic and H2 fan favorites. It just makes sense. Sonic CD, while it's still good, it's not as fan favorite as those two games. But again, Hey, I could be wrong. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm still going to see

Sonic Movie Speculations and Future Movies

01:17:20
Speaker
it regardless. And I'm probably going to enjoy it. Um, is he going to top three? Who knows? We don't even know what, you we don't even know about a trailer yet, which I haven't even seen a real trailer for the movie yet. We do know Jim Carrey will be back. Thank God.
01:17:33
Speaker
Because honestly, like let's it's like Jim Carrey, retired actor, famed, loved actor, doesn't do movies anymore. Sonic comes around. I'm getting it back in the suit.
01:17:44
Speaker
He only does Sonic movies. He only does Sonic now. And you know what? The fact that um was like he believes in this project so much is very cool to see from Jim Carrey.
01:17:55
Speaker
yeah Especially since he's like a very... well well-known actor just overall well-known well-renowned yeah decorated actor oh my god animated the grinch what other characters you think we'll see in this movie sonic characters I think we're going to see going around that one of the voice actors that they announced. Can't remember the name is going to voice big. The cat. i am a big, the cat fan. Cause he's just, he's just a funny, has to funny guy. He wants to do his own thing.
01:18:24
Speaker
And he ends up being, this is a ah randomly funny character. But I, I do. I want to see silver. I want to see silver get attention. He deserves because he suffers from the fact that he debuted in a really bad game.
01:18:36
Speaker
Yeah. the worst game. ah I mean, don't know. Objectively speaking. ah One of the worst. I feel you you you have Sonic the Hedgehog 4. ah Oh, that's my least favorite Sonic game. I hate that game. Yeah.
01:18:51
Speaker
I was saying objectively that is because the game is really bad. Obviously. Yeah, i I feel like because I think personally we have three more Sonic films, four, five and six, and they make it a saga like that and they end it with that.
01:19:06
Speaker
I think before we see the end of this, we have I feel like we're going to get like a key like Sonic 06 plot line and I think a Sonic Adventure 1 plot line like Chaos and would love to see Chaos again. i love Chaos. I love Chaos the character. He's great. I love him.
01:19:25
Speaker
And I feel like they might like, I feel like that would be what i what we want to see. So I feel like big is a character that we need to fry. Or you see my frog, his name is froggy.
01:19:35
Speaker
Yeah. I think, i think we'll see big. Um, I do like the theory of like, so if we do see time travel, we definitely, I feel like if we do seem to try time travel in the movie, the end credit scene, we'll definitely see silver.
01:19:47
Speaker
Or Blaze. Or both. But it makes sense. It makes sense to have a time travel plot. Even though, I mean, the plot's been done to death. But it can be done well. Because Sonic CD, you know if you guys don't know. You go to the past game. Yeah.
01:20:00
Speaker
It's a weird mechanic. But it's a mechanic in CD. And I can never build up enough speed to do it sometimes when I play the game. Yeah, so I feel there's sounds was good well like like it would be cool to see.
01:20:11
Speaker
ah Interesting to see how they do it. ah I'm excited. might I might not even be time travel at that point, honestly. Maybe maybe they might just go for something different, which would be fine. if as long as the As long as the movie is enjoyable and...
01:20:24
Speaker
And so far, every movie I've seen so far, for all three movies for me, especially three, I've enjoyed. i loved Sonic. I thought Sonic 1 was a fun little Sonic movie. It was it obviously followed that lame trope of, um you know, alien comes to Earth, has to adapt, and all that stuff.
01:20:41
Speaker
It's a lame trope, but the movie was still a fun, enjoyable time, in my opinion. Everyone, and people who could think otherwise, but I enjoyed it. They shot three of
01:20:51
Speaker
Actually, they shot ah in the time three. They actually shot a lab experiment that exploded that killed Maria actually. But no, in the game, she got no, but in the game, she freaking perishes. my she She perishes in the games. Jesus Christ.
01:21:09
Speaker
I just remember when it's like, oh what would like the they announced the actor for that. It's like, oh, people are going to be weirded out with the fans start cheering when Maria fucking dies on screen. She posted. I remember when the movie was like getting hyped up. She posted herself in a body bag on Instagram to avoid the that actor of Maria.
01:21:26
Speaker
Oh, that's funny. I was like, oh my God. She's playing the role. She's playing the part. I love it. he's doing so good let's go i'm um I'm about it. And she did interesting good in the movie too. She she was good.
01:21:38
Speaker
um What other plot lines are you hoping get covered with like future Sonic ah movies? ah so Obviously, 06 in some capacity would be cool. i so I think adventure like the chaos one would be cool. They'll do it eventually. Probably. I feel like those are the two go to plot lines that they would have left because I think the werehog is too out there. Yeah. For cinema.
01:22:01
Speaker
Yeah. Colors is too bland. I think because here's the thing. Adventure 2 made sense to do next because Shadow is like a fan favorite character like everyone. He's oh my come god, he's so goddamn cool moments. Yes. And now that we're getting more of this ensemble cast built within the Sonicverse, it makes more sense to do with the adventure now because it's like, yeah oh, we have like the six, seven characters for adventure. And it's like, oh yeah, we have these big casts now to do...
01:22:32
Speaker
ah you know, uh, Oh six as well. If they do a time travel plot in Sonic four, I think we're going to see a time travel expanded plot line in the fifth movie. Of course, if there is one, there probably, there probably going to be one and they're going to introduce either blaze or silver or both. That'd be sick. Actually. Um, that's what I think is going to happen. Well, if they do a time travel plot,
01:22:55
Speaker
If they do something different, then, you know, I think the sky is limited at that point because it just, it just makes sense to have an, and to add silver and blaze in the movie afterwards. They do time travel. Cause those are dude, those two are the time travelers. Well, besides like Mephiles and shit, but that's it. Yeah. Mephiles is like the villain. He's niche.
01:23:14
Speaker
Yes. He's cool. I like him as a character, but he's niche. Yes, absolutely. ah Do you have fan casting of who you you would like to see voice some of these characters?
01:23:25
Speaker
Hmm. Who would your optimal silver voice be? And do you think Metal will be given a voice actor? I don't think Metal will get one. It'd be cool if he does, if he turns Neo, because Neo Metal Sonic has a voice actor.
01:23:39
Speaker
then he turns, if he goes back to Metal Sonic, he just becomes mute again. well not mute, he has those weird noises, but you know what I mean. um Silver... I don't know. um If they do Silver, um it's got to be someone with kind of a nerdy voice in a sense. because silver i mean I think Silver's a freaking nerd. I even have an emote of Silver doing the erm actually pose. like I have an emote on Twitch channel for that. I think he's a nerd. So kind of like a nerdy but cool voice. I don't know who would be that actor though.
01:24:12
Speaker
But that's definitely the that's ah that's definitely a direction I would go for in regards to that. Like a nerdy but also seriously toned character. voice um and blaze is just all business and all stoic and elegant because that's her character i would say aubrey plaza she looks familiar i did google there she looks familiar wait on a second she looks really familiar actually i can't i can't put my finger on it though damn it yeah i think she would make a good blaze um and silver um yeah i don't know who would do silver enough justice
01:24:47
Speaker
Again, he's a nerd, so my eyes least. They just keep Bryce Pappenbrook from the games to do him in the movie. Oh, yeah. How about they have to do reference if they ever do that, like put Silver, and they have to do shadow kick back of head. It's no use! It's no use! It's no use!
01:25:06
Speaker
That too, but they have to have Shadow kick silver in the back of the head. That's a must. That is that's the best, the greatest cuts in the entire history of the franchise. that.
01:25:17
Speaker
I want them in some capacity to have Shadow make an I love Latina's joke. They already, they did. They did. In the movie? Yeah. And the third one, yeah, the the scene where they're in the crab, him and the engine stone.
01:25:31
Speaker
He doesn't say, he doesn't say love Latinas, but he watches a movie with like a Latina. It's like, like it's like, um, what's it called? It's like a drama. And they have these, these, you know, Latina accents. And, uh, he comments on them. He's like, you're too good for him or something like, I don't know, but they kind of, in my, in my opinion, I wanted to say, I love Latina Sonic.
01:25:55
Speaker
i want to certain of latinness I want to hear Keanu Reeves say, I love Latina. Also, see he didn't say, it wouldn't make sense for Chaos Control. He didn't say Chaos Control movie either.
01:26:08
Speaker
Because like, yeah. But he had Chaos. neither They did a little teleport thing. but also, another thing I have with the movies is that the Chaos Hermes are tiny. which Yeah, they are. They're tiny. feel like that's that that is like a realistic size for what they would be, though.
01:26:24
Speaker
I don't know, because in the games and even the Sonic decks, they can palm it. They can palm the thing. It just fits in their palm, but now it's their tank. Yeah. I mean, real-life diamonds aren't that big. so make Real-life gems aren't that like crazy big, so it makes sense.
01:26:41
Speaker
Yeah, but you know we can we can stress the rules a little bit. True, fair. ah Anything else you want to add on the Sonic movie before we move on to our second topic of the day? I just can't wait. i Oh, I think we're going to see it and this sounds very predictable, but I think we're going to get our first Sonic movie for trailer in probably the game awards. I think that make that makes sense because one, it's three months away from the movie at that point.
01:27:06
Speaker
They do that before. Yeah, they can also show but they can also stray away from doing that because it's predictable. um but I think that would make it would make sense. I think we'll see a trailer. Whether it's the first or the second trailer for the Sonic 4 movie, I think we'll see one of those trailers at the Game Awards. That's not a bad prediction.
01:27:24
Speaker
Yeah, and i it doesn't hurt. It'd be expected, but hey it wouldn't hurt. It's a big stage. yeah Yeah. All right. also Also, one more thing. i want I wonder what shitty movie is going release alongside Sonic 4 this time.

Mario Anniversary Critiques

01:27:38
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Because his Sonic 1 had, what, Birds of Prey, I think, competing against it, which I never saw it, but i didn't hear good things about it.
01:27:46
Speaker
I think Sonic 2 released with mobi Morbius, I think. And that movie, yeah, that movie was kind of, I never saw it. It's not good. It's not good. And then, of course, the infamous ah Sonic 3 vs. Mufasa. By the way, I actually did see... Well, I saw part Mufasa, but I got so bored I turned it off. It was just... I saw it on Disney+. I didn't go in theaters. No.
01:28:08
Speaker
I saw it on Disney+. And I got so bored I just turned it off. Because it like this movie kind of fucking kind of fucking blows. It's just Lion King again. I like the Lion King movie, but it's just Lion King again.
01:28:20
Speaker
it feels like... there okay moving on to our second topic of the day mario's 40th anniversary the ultimate max of the anniversary is almost upon us with the movie but how has nintendo handled mario's 40th anniversary well let's take a look back at what's been done for the anniversary first They released the Galaxy 1 and 2 on the Switch, Mario Tennis Fever, Mario Wonder on the Switch 2, and then we have also the upcoming Yoshi's Storybook game.
01:28:53
Speaker
Mm-hmm. We have merchandise-wise, the Mario Wonder Amiibos, the Elephant Mario and Captain Toad in Flower Amiibo, and Popland in Prince Florian Amiibos. The two Mario Galaxy Amiibos, Rosalina's Storybook and the Talking Flower.
01:29:07
Speaker
And event-wise, they had basically Mario at the entire Kyoto Marathon, the Mario Float at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the special Mario's 40th exhibit at the Nintendo Museum.
01:29:21
Speaker
forgot how about the Thanksgiving Day Parade. forgot about that. How has this anniversary been compared to other major ones for Mario? Has it been good? Has it been bad? Dan, what are your thoughts?
01:29:34
Speaker
Oh, man. So when the Direct first happened, when they announced most of this stuff, I remember calling the Directs embarrassing. Now, I do stand by some of that, but to a certain degree. So my opinion has changed a little bit.
01:29:49
Speaker
In terms of the content, in games, that is, the games. Because we have, obviously, the Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 bundle. The ports, they are ports. Remastered. I don't want to hear remastered. It's a port. It's a lazy, graphically enhanced port.
01:30:04
Speaker
They changed little to nothing but had the page in a book. That's it. Yeah. Ports, rather. they have An expensive port. Yeah, an expensive port, man, which I will get to. um mar And like the the content itself, I think in terms of games, I think is fine because really, I was going to say the content feels like it's lacking a bit.
01:30:29
Speaker
I do feel that way as well. But the reason why I say it's fine is because they're probably still working on a Mario game. The big Mario game, the 3D Mario we're all waiting for. They're probably still working on it. and I don't want them to rush it. If they can't finish by this year, whatever. I'll take it.
01:30:46
Speaker
The big problem is that these games are super overpriced. That's another that's that's why I call it embarrassing because when I look at the price of these things... like the more mainly Mario Galaxy one and two, the more tennis fever. They're expensive.
01:30:59
Speaker
Now, yes, the Swiss shoe games are just like more expensive in general. But also, I feel like a part of that does also come from the fucking tariffs that ah the US government did put on a bunch of other countries unnecessarily and legally.
01:31:15
Speaker
And it does come from that a little bit, too. But it doesn't change the fact that things are still expensive. Yes. Yeah, it's like you have Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 that are really old games. Again, great games. I'm not saying Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are bad games. They are fantastic games. I personally like two more than one, but we can all argue about that later. Yeah, for you to release ports of this, it's like, what, $60, $70? It's $40 for The bundle is $70.
01:31:43
Speaker
Yeah, I feel like if you did 40 for the bundle, 20 for each, yeah that would have been more acceptable for that. i Because yeah it's just ports. it's just it's just and yeah it's not even a It's not even a great port either. don't want to great port, but like i don't want is it's not even a crazy port either. like If the game was like super remastered, like you know if it was all that, I would get it.
01:32:05
Speaker
But they're not adding a lot of stuff to the game to warrant that kind of price tag. you know what mean? um And we also already have Mario Galaxy 1 on All-Stars, which...
01:32:19
Speaker
Granted, 3D All-Stars is also, I think, pointless now. Because Mario 64 is on NSO. Mario Sunshine is on NSO. It's going to be, yeah. It's going to be on NSO.
01:32:31
Speaker
And Galaxy is on the Switch store. So, like, they've essentially... Like, legit, when they announced it, like, so the 3D All-Star collection is basically pointless?
01:32:42
Speaker
I got scammed. I bought it, too. Like, I sold mine, and I got a lot great, like, store credit for the the the game store that I took it to. Got to make myself some good GameCube games for it, ah to say the least. But it's like... It's like... It's like they negated the whole purpose of that game's existence.
01:33:02
Speaker
Yeah. And again, back to the Galaxy thing, they're kind of... They're pricing people out as well. It's like... But yeah i do believe it yeah, I do believe it was kind of like a stupid how they released everything after the whole... It's stupid. Yeah, it's kind of... Sorry, I feel like I got scammed. I feel like it. i see i don't want I don't want to make any allegations. I feel like I got scammed. Scammed and allotted again.
01:33:29
Speaker
but ah you just... I'm like, damn. mean, I don't want that game either. it's Game-wise, it feels like it's lacking. It feels like there wasn't anything like hardcore significant game-wise for Mario this anniversary that's like...
01:33:45
Speaker
Like, that's why it feels like such an off anniversary. Like, yeah, I get the movie is the big, big thing. Yeah, it's the big thing. It's like, I don't know. I feel like they should also. eat Mario is a game first and foremost.
01:33:58
Speaker
Yeah. Like, well well, granted, he is like fucking more than that now. Yeah, I think. Yeah. The roots are at a game. So I feel like we should have gotten something new for the game and not.
01:34:09
Speaker
ah yo like with the only new game being a sports game, which is cool. like I get the sports games are cool, but right they have their own audience as well. But the only other new game here is the Yoshi game, which is cool. Love to see Yoshi. I'm not saying Yoshi is bad, but it's like Yoshi has his own anniversary too, you know? yeah because also, the reason why I say it's fine, the theing the content, the content, but I do have my regrets with the prices. that's That's the big thing. The reason why I say it's fine is because
01:34:42
Speaker
Galaxy 1 and 2 being purchasable on Switch. And I feel the same way about FireRed and LeafGreen. The fact that it's purchasable on the eShop, or Galaxy 1 and 2 can be purchasable physically as well, but that's good that we have a way to play these games on a modern console.
01:34:59
Speaker
Just the problem is, why is it so expensive? Not that I can't. It's like, it's just, for me, it's more of the principle of it. Not that I can't afford it. It's just more of a principle of it. Like, I can't support it. It also goes to show because FireRed and LeafGreen released for $20 a pop each. Still. So why couldn't Mario Galaxy do that?
01:35:19
Speaker
Well, honestly, yeah. like I really can't think of that besides Nintendo being like, but Mario. It's Mario. But Pokemon's bigger than Mario. Like, Pokemon outgrew, outshone Mario. Well, granted, it's a little older in the game. Yeah, $20 each. Yeah.
01:35:35
Speaker
yeah So it's like, it goes to show that it's like there, there is a bit of greed and, you know, capitalistic play on Nintendo side for that. Nintendo greedy. No, never. Yeah. Anyways.
01:35:49
Speaker
ah But no, it definitely like, i feel like there's a bit lacking, but like, i feel like once the Mario movie comes out, then I feel like there will, everything will be fine.
01:36:02
Speaker
Yeah, but the Mario movie is definitely the big thing. And with Mario, ah yeah, it's kind of got everything out with my Mario mario Galaxy 1 and 2. That was honestly the worst thing because of the pricing. That was my that was my biggest gripe. Because the thing is, like I'm not upset that i you know I can afford it, but it's just the principle of that being $70. And I feel the same way about Mario Tennis Fever.
01:36:26
Speaker
Because Mario Tennis Fever, I don't care. It's a tennis game. Len, look, I'm Mario Tennis fan. I played 64. I enjoyed it. I played Power Tennis. That game is peak Mario Tennis.
01:36:38
Speaker
i skipped the I skipped Open and ah Ultra Smash, but I wasn't missing i wasn't missing much, apparently. um I played Aces. Aces was fun. I like Mario Tennis Aces.
01:36:48
Speaker
um Mario Tennis Fever looks fun, but I'm not paying... The thing is, the principle of, like, I'm not spending so many bucks on a tennis game. It's only 70 bucks for you. It's like 100 for me Canadian.
01:37:01
Speaker
Oh, I have a friend who's also in Canada. friend Canada. Quest 2 exclusives are 100 bucks a game here in Canada. Same with PS5 releases. like It's like AAA stuff. You're looking at like 100 bucks Canadian.
01:37:15
Speaker
plus isn't a This isn't AAA game. That's just like, well, ah because of the US dollar and the Canadian dollar. my goods Like, it's like Yeah, and when the games... and and when I remember when a here's the pure thing and Tears of the Kingdom was coming out. My God, I can't say that. When when that game was coming out, when that game was coming out, you know Nintendo said, like this is gonna be our first $70 game. And when also when games were starting to become $70, the AAA games...
01:37:42
Speaker
i my I don't mind the games going from 60 to 70. As long as those games are like triple-on only. like yeah It's like show me the size of this game. Show me how big this game is and I'll tell you if it's worth 70 bucks or not. Yeah, like the but like not not not all the games, just the big game, like the Bonanzas, Mario Odyssey 2, hypothetically. the ter think of'm like like Those games can be $70, but the fact that Nintendo has so many IPs and released so many games, that's what's kind of causing the problem. like
01:38:14
Speaker
You kind of read the room a little you know what I mean? Yeah, like a Mario Sports game, which is technically a Mario spinoff game, it should be cheaper, realistically. I remember on a different podcast I was on, I brought up, this was actually when Tears Kingdom was coming out, actually. I made a joke saying, oh, yeah, what's next? Mario Party? It won't happen. Yeah.
01:38:36
Speaker
won't happen. But, yeah, like, I don't know if names mean $70, but, like, not all of them. yeah ah so Aside from price point, would you have done anything differently for Mario's 40th, aside from pricing's?
01:38:48
Speaker
well it all i Well, first off, I think we should get a baseball game and have a tennis game. I mean, granted, granted, rule yeah rule granted, last time we got Mario Tennis game, was't it was Aces, and that was 2017 or 18. So that was... okay so it has been a while. It's been a while.
01:39:09
Speaker
but But at the same time... the gap for the baseball gave us bit logger Yes, exactly. So, like, you know, it's, again, the content itself is fine. Because what they're prompt because they're probably, like, I'm not i'm not obviously the entire Nintendo. But, like, they're probably working, they're probably cooking. They're probably working on something for Mario in the future that's not probably not done yet. Who knows?
01:39:29
Speaker
um But in terms of anything different, I mean... The price could have been better, honestly. as anything like i probably i would if If Fever was $50, I'd probably be playing it now. Well, not You know what I mean? You would have picked it up. It it would have been like a much more common sense. Yeah, I'll pick that up. over a ah Do i want to pick this up or do I want to

Switch 2 Expansions and Pricing Concerns

01:39:52
Speaker
eat for the month? I don't know.
01:39:53
Speaker
I'm not spending $70 on baby Waluigi. Fair. No. already hate New and War Weegee. Do you think Nintendo capitalizes on their anniversaries, their major anniversaries for the game series enough? Or do you think that they kind of lack all when they do these anniversaries?
01:40:10
Speaker
Well, i do I did like the Mario 35th anniversary when they released, well, they did 3D All-Stars, which again was an iffy game. But also at that same time, they released Mario 35. Rip and Peace that game, by the way. That game was peak. I love that game, Mario 35. But with 35th anniversary, they also released Bowser's Fury. Obviously, was a port. It was a bundled port with 3D World, excuse me.
01:40:32
Speaker
But I think it was a solid Directly 55th anniversary. i think they did a pretty good job overall. Like, Bowser's Fear was really, really good. i ended up speedrunning it for a little bit, too. But then I realized I was bad at speedrunning, so I stopped. But... um Fate, yeah. But no, I think they a a pretty good job. But now it's like... It's it's fine, the content. But also, Mario Wonder...
01:40:55
Speaker
That update does not look like it's worth $20. Rosalina, no. All that stuff that they put in the game, that could have been in the game from the get-go.
01:41:06
Speaker
It's just like, why are we doing this? I've asked the case for a lot of the Switch 2 editions, honestly. The only one I can really justify that I've played... Well, haven't played a lot of them. I played the Mario Party Jamboree expansion, which it was fine. The mouse mini games were fun, but there weren't a lot of them. And most of the stuff like the team player mode, that the team mode, that should have been in the get-go. that's been um That's been a thing in Mario Party in the past. And like I think games 4 through...
01:41:34
Speaker
Uh... A team, like two players on a team? for a one ah like on yeah On a team on the whole board on the whole board. Oh, on the whole board. Yeah, yeah, yeah. yeah yeah yeah they added that and They added that in the DLC. 20 bucks. oh yeah that's yeah But it's been a mechanic in the franchise before. From Mario Parties 4 through 8, you can make a 2v2 on the whole board. Not just me, like on the whole board. And then 7 took it a step further.
01:41:58
Speaker
oh yeah, with an 8 player. 8 players, 1 board, oh! A players in quotations. you You share a controller. You share controller. Or you know you set up LAN play for that shit because you could do that with that one, which was crazy i heard i heard about that. I never did i never did it, but i heard about that.
01:42:15
Speaker
The Switch 2 upgrades, like, I haven't gotten a lot of them. ah Like, I got the Animal Crossing one. Played that for, like, three months. I got the Breath of the Wild one. i'm like, wow, this is actually, like, stunning. Holy shit.
01:42:29
Speaker
It does only add an app, though. Yeah, it only adds, like, an app, I think, right? The Breath of the Wild and the Resident Switch 2 editions. But, like, also, like, yeah that one was more, like, the graphic, the graphical changes. Yeah. but yeah probably it probably does look stunning. I haven't it, but it probably does look stunning. won't be surprised I'll be with that. as So the the Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom one, if you have it, so those upgrades are free.
01:42:48
Speaker
ah I played the Kirby one recently. i was pretty good. I wanted to play that one, but but again, it's like that's like it's like a 20-buck upgrade. I'm like, uh... I think it's the only one that... It's the only one... It's the only one that seems worth it. Yeah, I agree. yeah i play played every I played it recently. it great It was pretty fun. It wasn't long, but it was pretty fun. The only other upgrade that I'll say is worth it is the Stardew Valley one, because it's $0.
01:43:12
Speaker
Shout-out to the third ape, based guy. Based guy. yeah don have but and Yeah, mostly these things are just like... she could have been in the base game from the get-go. Like I don't get it. It's like, it's also like, I feel like the price of upgrading them is too high. Like, Oh yeah. Oh yeah. We should have that price. $10. think $10 at the 4k and that's it.
01:43:37
Speaker
for well Well, unless you want to add the new content, of course. And the biggest, even with new content, 10 bucks. Yeah, I agree. I agree. I agree. that I think the biggest offender though, It's not a Switch 2 edition upgrade, but it's the DLC, Bonanza.
01:43:52
Speaker
By the way, Bonanza is a fantastic game. Emerald Island DLC, I will say, it depends on what kind of gamer you are ah for that one to be worth it. If you love roguelikes, you're going to love it.
01:44:06
Speaker
If you don't, slash, if you're only really in it for the DK Island portion, you're probably not going to care for it. Yeah, i felt I felt that way. Because the main thing, Bonanza, I played the game 100% of it. It's a fantastic game. One of the best.
01:44:23
Speaker
Yeah, I think it's better than Odyssey, personally. Hot take. But um I love Odyssey. um But yeah, that DLC is like, why? Why? Why? It's overpriced, too. like it's it's Oh, yeah, that too. i work That too.
01:44:38
Speaker
is not too yeah ah Anything else you want to add about Mario's 40th before we move on to the bonus level and start closing things out?

Humorous Tournament and Gaming History

01:44:47
Speaker
um I do think that the merch is pretty cool. I like the talking flower. I'm not going to get it, but it looks pretty cool. True. yeah it does look cool. And the Amigos are overpriced, too. That's also a thing. That's all i wanted to add. but all right That's my rant for the day. Nintendo, stop doing a capitalism. Do a communism. Thank you very much. Thanks for coming to me.
01:45:09
Speaker
Also, a Yoshi game looks cool. Oh, yeah. the Yoshi game looks cool. it comes out very soon. ah Like a month or two. ah Very excited to see that. I don't know if I'll get it right away, but definitely i pick it up.
01:45:22
Speaker
Yeah, I'll pick it up at some point. All right. With that, it's time for us to start closing things out and head on into the bonus level. Crazy lists, great deals, and recapping gaming history. It's all here in the bonus level.
01:45:35
Speaker
And we're kicking it off with Game Clash, which is a little tournament thing that I put together that our guest decides the big winner on. Dan, are you ready to hear what this tournament is all about? this tournament all about I'm ready.
01:45:50
Speaker
All right. Our tournament theme today. Which Sonic series character should get one of the remaining slots in Crossworld? Are you ready? I'm ready.
01:46:02
Speaker
Match one, Emeril versus Mephiles.
01:46:07
Speaker
Well, Emeril doesn't talk, so it makes sense to be in Crossworld's DLC. I'm to go Mephiles. That's because his design his design is sick. And Paul, he's just a cool character, but they kind of give give him a voice, bro. Give him a freaking voice in Crossworld. He has it in Shadow Gens. Give him a voice. Mephiles. That's my choice. Mephiles. All right.
01:46:26
Speaker
Mighty the Armadillo versus Chaos. Oh, that's Chaos. Easy. I like Mighty, but Chaos is easy. He's an OG. Chaos, 100%. chaos under percent Ray the Flying Squirrel versus Infinite.
01:46:38
Speaker
I think if I didn't include Mighty, I can include Ray. They're there're ah they're ah they're a they're one without the other. So Infinite. infinite And Takal versus Marine. Oh, Takal all day.
01:46:49
Speaker
Takal all day. Marine, she's won one game and that's it. I mean, Takal's not a lot games either, but Takal all day. Okay, semifinals, Bethelis versus Chaos. Chaos. Water Monster, cool.
01:47:01
Speaker
And Infinite versus Takal. Takal. All right, it's a Sonic Adventure finale. Chaos versus Tikal. Who gets the slot? Oh, damn it. That's tough. Oh, that's tough.
01:47:15
Speaker
Oh, my God. They're both cool characters in different ways. Tikal. I'm going go with Tikal. Ooh, okay. going to go with Tikal. Okay. I made a whole YouTube short about her.
01:47:28
Speaker
Tikal. That's it. All right. Yeah. Well, let's see if Sega actually does that. They still have slots to come for free characters. So we will see who gets added. It's going to be Goku.

Well, he's already played baseball. I'm talking about a new sport. If Mario wants to pick up a sport, what sport should Mario play? Now, he's already played tennis, baseball, soccer, basketball, golf, volleyball, dodgeball, ice hockey, horse racing, dancing, and of course, the Olympics. Let's see.
01:49:55
Speaker
ah He's playing i played hockey because I'm a sports mix. I forgot about that. Yeah, shout to Square Enix for that one. Yeah, that and basketball too. that Hoops 3 on 3 was really good. That was Mario Nix developed great Mario sports games, which is crazy.

All two of them. All two of them. 100% win-trace. They were both good though, yeah. I agree. um Damn, hasn't he played yet that I can say? he ya um I mean, technically, in the Mario universe...
01:50:31
Speaker
Soccer isn't called soccer. It's actually called strike. So I'm kidding. I'm all kidding. Well, serious about that part. The canonical part. But no, I'm still thinking. Hang on. He hasn't pulled it. You're right. My mind just keeps saying, say cricket, say cricket, say cricket.
