Us here at the Daily Arsenal Podcast are off today, technically, as a lot of people are, inevitably. However, what I asked some of the boys to do is, if they got a moment, considering the very busy lives that they lead at the moment, is to send in football things that they really enjoyed from the year, just to give you, the listeners of the Daily Arsenal Podcast, just a little something to enjoy on Christmas Day, just a few minutes long.

and something positive, something happy and something hopeful. Matt and Jamie were able to get back to me in time just because everybody else's schedules are so hectic. So first of all, here is what Matt is grateful for from this year in the football world.

wow managed to meet Jens Lehman the chainsaw wielding man himself he's trying to co-op the word invincibles that was Matt there with everything that he's thankful for this year in regards to Arsenal but also just football so in general you know it's a day of celebration so Why not celebrate everything that makes us smile? And one of the members of the Daily Arsenal podcast who never stopped smiling, one of the originals who was with us from the very beginning, here is Jamie Patterson with what made him smile throughout this year.

those are his opinions indeed Jamie Paterson there as ever excitable hopeful for Arsenal victory I mean it's great massive thank you to both of them for sending those in um the others just couldn't fit it in with their schedules at the moment they being so close to Christmas but When I look back and think 2024, starting off with the January trip to Dubai, the warm weather training after we'd had a torrid December, Arsenal had had an absolutely shocking December and Arteta took the squad to Dubai and Ben White somehow became even more tanned than he'd ever been before, which is a phenomenon in and of itself. And all of a sudden that form completely switched and it became this new Arsenal who went on an absolute tear for the first part of 2024.

That was a wonderful time to be a gunner. It really, really was. Matt said it as well. The 3-1 victory at home against Liverpool. Oh, that was as mad as it was with the City goals. It was a brilliant day.

I would say that um I got the opportunity earlier this year. I was doing a lot of commentating. I've kind of um put that to the side to focus on the podcast since then. But I was commentating on games in the African Cup of Nations, the Asian Cup, the Premier League, Copper America, Champions League. I got a game in the Euros. I mean, I did Guinea-Bissau versus Nigeria, Qatar versus Uzbekistan, Young Boys versus Man City. Admittedly, this next one wasn't in 2024, but I just thought I'd bring it up.

Manchester United hosted Bournemouth in December 2023. I commentated that game when Bournemouth beat them 3-0 for the first time and then they did it again just a day or two ago. I commentated on Canada versus Chile in the Copper America one o'clock in the morning sat here at this desk where I am talking to you right now trying to stay awake after having been at work all day watching what was an awful game of football and then getting to commentate Slovenia versus Serbia in the Euros was just the most remarkable moment.

and it felt like a real accomplishment and achievement. It's something I really want to do a little bit more of. Fumbling wise as well, the Euros weren't the best for England. However, I'm not sure I'll ever forget Watkins winning goal in the semi-final when he came on and made out of absolutely nothing, turns, hits it from an awkward angle.

ah difficult positioning of his body, no one would expect the shot to go in and buries the winning goal for England to go into the finals. While we were beaten by Spain completely fairly, completely understandably, but that moment was incredible.

ah Esmond obviously he's on break at the moment while he's ah touring America but we've been here since the start and then we've got other people who are dipping out like Noah and then we have people who've come in as well we had Lewis for a little while who was with us and now we have Craig now we've got Matt we've got Rodney you know it's it's such a such a wonderful group of people honestly and it's been so much fun to do all the crossovers as well with the different teams and to be able to build a relationship with everybody especially in the Arsenal team has been such a joy and hopefully you enjoying us as well listeners so
