On this edition of the Monday Review, we take a look at another dissapointing Draw, and ask some serious questions, such as, what do we do without Saka? What replacement do we potentially get in? And just how funny was the Liverpool UTD Game?

Match Review: Arsenal vs Brighton

00:00:01
Speaker
every club every day the global sports podcast network hello and welcome to the daily arsenal podcast brought to you as part of the global sports podcast network it is monday we have had our first game our second game even of 2025 and let's be honest it wasn't the greatest it was a little bit of a disappointing one and today we will be reviewing that match the 530 kickoff between Arsenal and Brighton at the Amex Stadium. I'm your host, a much iller sounding Josh Vince than normal, and today I'm very happy to be joined by Craig Matthews, Joshua Duncan and Rodney Gooden. It's lovely to see you all, gents. Have you all had a cracking new year? Sorry I haven't been around for a couple. um Rodney, we were talking a little bit at the start before we got cracking, but how much did that result ruin your day? I mean really?
00:00:51
Speaker
It was tough because after the Brentford game, you know was I was in a good mood. you know I started to believe again. And then this one just slightly dampened my weekend. I won't lie. Bit disappointing, wish the team could have done better. So yeah, slightly dampened it. And especially because I had high expectations going into the new year after a positive Christmas, wonderful new year, amazing Brentford game. I was thinking, yes, now to put bright into the sword. And it didn't quite happen.
00:01:16
Speaker
There was so much hope wasn't there? And it was all Josh dashed on the shores of Brighton. I mean, you know, there's there's one reason I don't put ass on my bets. Number one, cause I'm awesome. Number two, you just don't know how they're going to, you don't know what's going to happen with them. One minute, you know, they're, they're beating Brentford and that's a short result against Brentford. And then Brian, you know, they dropped points.

Inconsistency Woes: Arsenal's Rollercoaster Performances

00:01:37
Speaker
I mean, you can't do that. If you're going for the title, he's just, it's been my weekend. You know, after that, I didn't watch no football. I couldn't, I couldn't, man. This is, this is a habit of yours, isn't it? When asked to play on a Saturday and you don't get the result you want.
00:01:48
Speaker
No more football for the rest of the weekend. Yeah, yeah. I've been watching, you know, there's got the yeah the old WWE on Netflix. I've been watching that in my childhood. it I love that. I didn't know that at the moment. Yeah, they've got all the Royal Rumbles and WrestleMania, everything. like Yeah. So I've been been watching that. That is my afternoon after work tomorrow scheduled in that case. saw it And ah Craig, I mean, these two are pretty down hardened. Were you similar or did you think we sort of were lucky to get a point?
00:02:18
Speaker
We were lucky, he but I was not happy. We scored the first goal, didn't score the second and third goal, they killed the game off. So I was very disappointed in the result, to be honest with you. Yeah, I think that's ah something that has definitely reiterated

Ethan Wannieri Shines Amidst Struggles

00:02:32
Speaker
throughout. And speaking of the first goal, Rodney, Ethan Wannieri. I mean, we lost Saka, obviously, for a while, which is an absolute shh. You know, it's a pain in the backside. But Wannieri starting on that right hand side.
00:02:44
Speaker
That goal took us through it. because It was ah and amazing. But you know, it was really surprising for me. It was a combo play with Michael Moreno. I never had on my bingo card that that duo would actually be goal scoring, you know, compatibility. I never thought they would be the would be heroes of that match, you know, had we won the game. But yeah, it was absolutely incredible. I love the link up cheeky little one. too He runs into space. it Literally, you can see Declan Rice running alongside him as well. I thought he's definitely going to lay it off to the assist, cutting down the wing. But he takes the shot.
00:03:11
Speaker
There's an argument that the Brighton keeper could have done a bit better, should have done a bit better, but hey! Oh, that goal's a goal! Reeses him straight underneath him, absolutely adored that, amazing. Ethan has really kind of come into his own, I quite liked him when he was coming into the midfield, but I much prefer him on the wings, he's sharp, he takes on his man as well, he takes the risks. He doesn't always win, in that same game you could see that there's a couple of times, lost the ball a couple times as well, he's kind of pushing the ball past one player, ducking the other way, he's getting body blocked or whatnot, but He's young, he's aggressive, he's hungry, he's always kind of goal scoring minded. I love him. I was devastated when he came off. It's quite nice seular our attack is quite nice to see a winger, I think, playing for Arsenal at the moment who's not just recycling the ball once they get to the box. Because if I've got one criticism of Martinelli, it's that all season that's what he's been doing. He's been hitting that line and then just recycling possession yeah as opposed to actually making those runs.
00:04:02
Speaker
hundred percent Well, I mean, it wasn't a game of many events, unfortunately.

Controversial Penalty and VAR Debate

00:04:08
Speaker
So, Josh, I'd like to jump to the next big one. And I think it's only fitting that we bring the controversial decision your way. The penalty, given against Arsenal in about the 60th minute,
00:04:20
Speaker
Jarpedro and Saliba both jump for a ball, which has just bounced up in the air in the box. It's a little bit chaotic, but, you know, nothing untoward. And what happens? They both go for it with their heads and Saliba just happens to headbutt Jarpedro. It's a perfectly innocuous headbutt and it's given as a penalty. What on earth did you make of that?
00:04:41
Speaker
you know, i've I've never seen that given them football. I've never seen a clash of heads given as a penalty. and They normally just, you know, check the players all right, they're both down and get on with it, you know, but they probably do a drop ball and that's why it really, you know, no one really, no one really can, you can't really say that as a clear penalty. And they went to VAR and they they just given it. I mean, if you look going over the letter of the law, you know, I guess it's ah technically a foul.
00:05:04
Speaker
But nah, I think Brian were lucky to get away with that one. It struck me as being very soft. I mean, even Arteta said um on whether they expected the decision pitch to be overturned, I checked and after three seconds they said that VAR had already checked it. That seems quick. I asked Anthony Taylor and he said VAR would have a look at it. So it was a rapid decision, wasn't it? I expected a bit more screwy in the ovary personally.
00:05:30
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, you know, I thought it would be a long thing, you know, one of those ones will be a one video in the studio, they'll be talking, you know, afterwards, it's just like, before the, before the game, depending, I didn't even know it went to VAR, I knew after it went to VAR, that's how quickly they made the decision. And it's always asked me, I've known it, it's always asked these controversial decisions, i I'm not, listen, I'm not trying to say there's a, you know, a theory against us, you know, but it's always asked, we have these questionable decisions that cost us in the season, it's quite, it's getting annoying now.
00:05:58
Speaker
It is a bit and actually I will come to you in a moment Craig but Ronnie you have mentioned many a time that it's Arsenal things go wrong normally it seems when it goes to a VAR decision they're in there with a cup of tea just sipping on it going no we'll come up with a decision in a moment you know whenever we're ready but this was well is there a bias again I hate saying this because I sound like a conspiracy theorist but is there an Arsenal bias against us Ronnie you sometimes feel like there is a bit I think as a fan who, when you love your team, it always does feel that way. I mean, we think about the early red cards this season and some of the questionable decisions, Saliba sending off, Declan Rice sending off, Trussell sending off. I think all of them do feel that, hmm, if you see similar incidents happen in other games and it's not given, and it's given against you and it's not given to another team. it does feel that there can be a bias but I feel that other teams also have awful decisions that kind of go their way and if we're not watching those teams as much as closely as watching our own it will start to feel that there's a conspiracy against us however I think in this situation is it a soft pen absolutely you know would it be given another game I don't think so but the onus is still on us to make it so that one or two poor decisions that don't go our way in a game don't kill the game off don't allow the other team to you know
00:07:04
Speaker
mix the points or split the points and whatnot. We should have been two, three up. So if they do get a cheeky pen and it's a questionable decision, it doesn't stop us from getting the three points that weekend. And so that's where I want to put my focus. You know, you can't guarantee the standard of officiating is going to kind of go your way. One game it might go yours, another game it doesn't. You need to have the goods, you know, to make sure that you win regardless. You certainly do. And I mean, you definitely can't rely on Premier League officiating. That's the that's the case. I mean, some of the shouldn't be like that. It shouldn't be like that. Imagine you're good. Imagine, you know, you're working out work in the bank, right? You're telling me that you shouldn't allow me to do my job to make sure things are efficient. You know how stupid that sounds. Yeah. It's very true. No other industry would survive. They probably get paid a lot more than we do as well the referees. I mean there's got to be danger paying there hasn't there for fans after the game and stuff like that you'd

Arteta's Tactical Decisions Under the Microscope

00:07:53
Speaker
imagine. I mean Craig you mentioned earlier that we were lucky to get a draw. There was a chance late on as well where Minter put the ball across the face of goal and Matoma very easily could have tucked that away. Rodney even mentioned before when the wingers were sort of getting ready to come on, he was scared. Like, we didn't look confident. Where do you think our big problems came from in this game, Craig? First of all, it was not his system. He didn't do anything in the game. He played 90 minutes, didn't do anything. I failed. It was a point when he came on.
00:08:26
Speaker
either God didn't look his normal self, or if it was ill or not well. Half of the parent and team looked tired, and Jayden in the second half. Jayden didn't really look his normal, informed self. Everyone just looked tired. He didn't make any changes either. I know there's a lot of kids on the bench yesterday as well. I thought he could have made a change here and there, maybe bring on Skelly for and put party va at for movie marine um put party and back in the field and try and see if that could work. That is true, actually. Yeah, I'm just looking now. He only made two substitutions, which was Martinelli Ferruanieri, who will will come on to wire that in the next section, but also Urdugard for Giorgenio. Is that sort of
00:09:06
Speaker
Rodney, is that like a fear, do you think? a Lack of ambition from Arteta? Yeah, I think given Arsenal's history with decisions that potentially, you know, go against us, I feel that the winery decision was definitely precautionary. He knows that would suck it out.
00:09:22
Speaker
you need him to play on the wings if he's doing better on the wing than he is when the midfield then you need him to play the next game and him already being on a yellow was a dangerous situation you've got martinelli on the bench take one area off put in martinelli make sure that you don't have any more kind of players that can't play because i think similarly timber couldn't play that game because he was on a suspension for multiple yellows yeah why Partei was at right back. So he's trying to avoid any more instances of the squad becoming thinner than it is for the next game. So I can definitely see why Arteta has gone for it. Unfortunately, I think in the case of Wenerius, he was looking like our best attacking threat. So taking him off the pitch did kind of weaken the squad in a way. you know Should he have kept him on and w risked it? Well, we'll see. you know Who knows? you know I can understand why he's made that decision, but I can also easily say that if he'd taken the risk, it could have been an absolute disaster. So I think he's playing a bit too cautiously, but you can understand why. Similarly for Odegard, I think Odegard definitely wasn't at his best. There's rumours about him being ill, he didn't look too strong too, so I could see that maybe he's not starting the game because you want to kind of protect him, but at the same time you realise that when you're 1-1 on you really need to kind of win the game, putting him on for the last half hour, I could understand it. But for me, I agree. I think Lewis Skelly coming on and then moving Pate into the midfield would have been a much better option
00:10:31
Speaker
because I think he can play right back, but he's not the best there. He's so much better in the CDM role. And I think the team suffers when he's not there. So I would have liked to have seen that, but I think what it is. I think it's a fair analysis. Well, I don't want to particularly linger on the events of the game too much longer. And I don't think you gents do either. So we're going to take a little.
00:10:50
Speaker
go on. Just to add to what Rodney was saying, um I know, you know, the suspensions and, you know, people on yellow cards, but surely the players got to take some responsibility, you know, if you're on a yellow, right, or you know, your next game, you get yellow, you you you know you're gonna cross the team. So surely it's then you you got to take that responsibility, but like, look, you know what, what's I will do my best not to get another yellow. We should make the right tackles and and and play. I mean, I don't think, I think there's a bit of a problem there if you're arresting players because someone's on a yellow. I mean, there's, I mean, if we have a long fixture, you know, long fixtures in the whole December and coming into January, I don't really agree with that. I think, I think you should just play, play your best team, play your best team that you can play out, whether you've got someone on a yellow or not on a yellow and tell them, look, you're on a yellow. Don't do anything stupid. Do you know what? why they One area is into the only way. we came off yesterday. day Yeah, we we'll get to that in a minute. Yeah, we'll get to that just after the break. That's not looking good. it' Speaking of a break, we'll definitely clip that Josh and send it to our tester directly as well. ignore Ignore the yellow cards. We're just going to take a quick break and hear from our partners at Zencast. When we come back, we're going to do a little bit more specific analysis on certain areas. So we'll be back just after this break.

We're reviewing our one all draw against Brighton on Saturday at the MX Stadium. And just before the break, Craig mentioned something which is kind of concerning, especially with what Rodney was saying earlier about a precaution about taking the young man off.

Injury Concerns: Wannieri's Setback

00:12:49
Speaker
Arteta,
00:12:51
Speaker
has announced that when Yeri was withdrawn at halftime because of muscular issues, he said, we have lost him as well. He's a muscular thing and we had to take him off. Speaking to Match of the Day after the game, he reaffirmed the reasoning behind the sub and described it as really bad news. Craig, concerning? Yeah, very concerning.
00:13:15
Speaker
I don't know other if the manager is overworking the players in training, or if the manager overworking the players. and again fatigue and intos a lot because well The players have played a lot of football over the last three years, like World Cup, Euros, Premier League, Champions League, League Cup, FA Cup. Maybe he might have to kind of tone down the training a lot with his players, because soccer injury could have been avoided.
00:13:41
Speaker
if you look back now if he played him less than rested him more um call replacement replacement for what a sob when thea is a kid hardly play this season so ah don't know how you can get injury just like that not unlikely the old player is quite young seventeen years old i with this jiinsaw young brittle bones that's what it is Craig young brittle bones he's not adding enough milk he just snaps instantly yeah well um there's somebody who I wanted to pick up on because uh mr Joshua Duncan has been an advocate of him uh quite a lot on this podcast it's not Guy It is someone who actually Craig mentioned in his critique earlier on. ah Arsenal's best finisher, Leandro Trossard, according to Joshua Duncan, a 13-year-old Belgian. He had the most shots for Arsenal. Three.
00:14:30
Speaker
zero of which were on target he did not i mean there weren't many players in that squad who covered themselves in glory but he certainly didn't would you would you be willing to agree oh 100 i think everyone played terribly um yesterday i mean but again we've we've trust that i mean he was playing against his his former team and every time i touch the ball they'll burn him you know so he might have played in his head i don't know like he didn't love it yesterday because he was terrible you know i mean so and yeah i Yeah, he didn't have a good game. you know i learn the one say I was probably on your bandwagon being like, yeah, it's not today, it's not his day today. Join me, join me in the Trussard hate. There's something else that I kind of wanted to ask you. It was actually mentioning Thomas Parto. I didn't get to see all the game because I was working during it, but I thought he actually had probably one of his better games for Arsenal. Even playing it right back, I think of all of the players on the pitch, he was probably the one who
00:15:25
Speaker
who did arguably the best, and I am by no means his biggest fan. What did you make of his performance yesterday?
00:15:34
Speaker
Um, me personally, he did all right. He did a job, I guess, you know, he's not all right, but he did a job. That's the best I get. And it's the best he's he's played, um, being right back. But I don't want to see him there anymore. I think he weakens the team playing there. You don't get the best out of party playing him right back. I mean, if you really, really have to, and just for that one-off game, then maybe you could do a job for you, but he's played there far too much this season for my liking.
00:15:57
Speaker
No, I have to agree with you. And rodney Rodney made a good point. He's better suited in the midfield. We do lose something without him there. But I thought, I mean, he had four defensive actions, which was the best of any of our players. And, you know, he was I thought he was relatively solid for the first time in a long time. um Rodney, we have been considered stokanal.
00:16:17
Speaker
all season we have the best set piece delivery in the league but i don't know about you i was watching that game the best i saw the set piece deliveries in particular were rubbish on saturday do you think it's a mental thing of not having Saka taking the ones from the right because I mean Rice was still taking the ones from the left but he just he was not on his game. Do you reckon it's something to do with what Craig said with overworking and overplaying or is there something mentally that's holding these players back to your feel?

Leadership and Strategy: Set Pieces and Player Roles

00:16:49
Speaker
I think it might be a bit of both actually. I think it might be a combination of fatigue and then also knowing that
00:16:56
Speaker
players are are injured the team's being weakened the max fixture schedule is not getting any easier as well i think yeah definitely um when yuri coming on and taking sackers place it's difficult 17 year old kid coming in we know sack is pretty crispy with the deliveries too he's got to step up to that one i saw a couple poor corners as well including one the one that went straight out of play disastrous you know absolutely shambolic yeah that was a hard watch you know But it's true. I mean, ah corners have been a bit difficult, but sometimes I don't even think it's a delivery. I think there was one where I think it might have been a Declan whips it into the box. And I think it's a Moreno has a clash with Jesus as well. Well, I think it's still communication. Remember that? Yeah, three of them went down in the box. so no know went down Gabrielle gets pulled down. Yeah. So then there's people asking for a penalty for that one. And then you've got Moreno clashing with Jay Zeus. And I'm thinking, well, the delivery was decent at that point. Now I think it's about communication. Are we shouting it out? Are we calling? So I think it's more than just the delivery. I think maybe for set pieces as well, all of it is starting to just drop below the standard that we need to. So might be Nick Yover, get in there, re-coach these boys, you know, give them a little nice rest as well. And then we'll run in with some new tactics.
00:18:02
Speaker
We're paying him enough. He better pull it out of the bag. You know, we're talking about communication just there with Rodney. ah Craig, the last point I want to make really on this game before we look forward and look at some of the other games from the week. um Obviously, Erdogan didn't start, and as we've sort of spoken about, it seems as though illness was probably the primary reason. There's a lot going around at the moment, so I'm not surprised that he's caught something. But even though Georgina was captain, Georgina is a very senior player, he's a very good player.
00:18:29
Speaker
It felt to me like there was a lack of leadership on that pitch yesterday, particularly. ah Did you see that and feel that, especially with what ridon Rodney says with communication problems? I think so, too. I feel like Decconrass should have the armband when the guard is not available. He's a leader. He's been captain in and he's captain in Westland. So he will be more of the natural future captain for Arsenal. I feel potentially if he stays there a long time, he should. He's more vocal. than I think Georgina is vocal when I was vocal as Decconrass will lead by example.
00:18:59
Speaker
He'll put arms around players, he'll get players to do the job. I don't think it's too quiet that midfield. I don't necessarily disagree with you, but the only thing I'd say is I didn't see that from Rice at all in the game on Saturday. That was my only problem. And if we're go to like the one thing I'd say for Odegard is even when he's off it, he's still leading and he's still setting that example. Whereas Rice, when he has off games, I don't know about the rest of you. I feel like he disappears when he has off games a little bit. Declan Rice kind of pulls into himself a little bit potentially.
00:19:29
Speaker
Well, let's let's stop looking at the negatives, shall we? We're in January and on Wednesday, we're going to be doing a world card episode inspired by our good friend here, Joshua Duncan, about the more interesting transfer of rumours that are whipping around the world at the moment. But there is obviously with Sakarao, there is a big gap on that right hand side. Now, when Yeri also being out is a bit of a nightmare.
00:19:51
Speaker
right-wingers, reasonable likelihood of bringing in. Obviously we're talking about Kunia, he can play out there, but I'd probably rather have him a bit more central. If you could, a reasonable player, who would you like to see brought in on that right-hand side if you could in January? I'll start with you Rodney. I mean, define reasonable, you know. as player that I want. I don't know if they're coming, you know? not Okay. Affordable. Affordable. Okay. Okay. Well, the thing is, I feel my top choice would have been Adam Ola Lookman, but I feel that he's unreasonable because Atalanta are having a mad season. I don't think they're playing whatsoever. They would never sell him, especially not generally. Even though I think price-wise, what he's been estimated at is affordable. So the one I'm having a look at right now in terms of wing is, I think it's got to be, we need to hit up Bournemouth and argue Antoine Semenyo.
00:20:41
Speaker
Like what's, what's, what's going on? You know, you can play the left and the right, you know, very strong, great ball carrying takes on his man. I think, yeah, that might be a more realistic option. If it was about putting him right for him, that would be who I'd like to see come in. So many would be lovely. What about you, Josh?
00:20:56
Speaker
Well, you're talking about affordable. I think it's probably be asked for, you know, you know, also but yeah we asked for, you know, I mean, you know, you put Craig down the ring. I'm sure you could do a job out there. I mean, I was a solid center back. I'm never dislodging Gabriel.
00:21:15
Speaker
No, I probably have to agree with Rodney there, you know, I think i think the Rashford deal would be too too too difficult. I wouldn't want him anyway. And there's no one really there that that teams are probably willing to look... I probably won't want to get rid of him anyway because they're having a great scene as well.
00:21:32
Speaker
I actually, you know, I mean, you can, there's no one that really springs to mind that I listen to breaking the bank, you know? And I don't see also doing that. um Do you know what, he's probably going to bring back Vieira from loan and he he's going to be on the right. i mean was a he He did a bit in pre-season, didn't he? But I got yeah can't see, I can't see Arteta rolling that one back sadly. What about you Craig? He loved it.
00:21:55
Speaker
Um, I like, I like, I remember from Brentford, I think he's a good place. He's got a good goal against us the other day. He's got good numbers this season. He's a decent, um, I like clever, um, warmest as well. I think he could do his job for us as well on evil wings. So if I had a shout, it'd be for Kingsley Coleman. I think, I think I reckon, I reckon he would be affordable at the moment, considering his agent. He's not really getting the game time, but that's enough. about Arsenal specifically. It was a rough weekend for us. There are better things on the horizon for the Gunners. So what we're going to do now is we're going to take a little break. We're going to hear from our partners at the Global Sports Podcast Network. And when we come back, we're going to look at the other results around the Premier League this weekend and what that's done to the Premier League table. The results won't surprise you. So we'll be back just after this break.

This one, for the first time, probably made you smile. Tottenham Hotspur won Newcastle United 2.

You know what it is, yeah. I'm surprised that Andrew's doing the job, you know. I'm really surprised. I was thinking, when they lost you, I was thinking, you know what, Sunday, I'm probably going to hear he's going to get sacked. I'm not sure of you guys have heard anything, but I've not heard anything. Not a bit. All I've heard is that he's the angriest he's ever been.
00:24:15
Speaker
after that game and kept saying it was an unfair situation. It was unfair, he lost. but Nothing was unfair. It was nothing unfair at all. They were just rubbish. yeah they do i mean The way he played his football, is its don't get me wrong, when it gets goals there, but it does lead in goals as well.
00:24:32
Speaker
and you know You can't play that sort of football in the league, you know? not not not not think You can't defend the way they defend and think we're going to challenge the top four. That doesn't make any sense. I mean, they're the second highest goal scorers. They got 42 goals in 20 games, which is quite impressive. Yeah, that is. They've also conceded 30. There you go. like content manager background on and Yeah it does. entirely All the blame must rest on his door. um There are a few other interesting results as well. um One that people were really looking forward to was Man City, West Ham. Now Rodney, 4-1 Manchester City. I think I was expecting a city win on this one. Were you sort of similar in that vein?
00:25:17
Speaker
Yeah similar because I think West End's form this season hasn't been great as well and you know that they've been on a string of just you know ah lost games drawn games they just haven't really been performing well you know that for Man City you know the comeback is on you know I was hoping the stay humble curse would last the entire season but but There's only a maritime. There's going to be a string of a decent run of games and they'll be back on the form. And I think for this game against West Ham, considering their form and considering City and the squad they've got and the pedigree they have, I said, yeah, definitely. I was hoping it might be a bit of a closer game, but for one, I'm not too surprised by

Around the League: City and Liverpool Matches

it. So yeah, for those who are unaware, the ah stay humble curse is, of course, the fact that Ernie Harland had scored 10 goals before he told um ah delightful Michaela Teta to stay humble. And after that, he scored three.
00:26:05
Speaker
for a long time. Sadly though, as Rodney says, the curse has broken. um Another result as well, Craig, which was in our favour. It was a result in our favour. We should have taken advantage of it. Chelsea drawing the Crystal Palace now.
00:26:20
Speaker
Josh very aptly put before we started, Chelsea aren't in a title race but they would argue they are because you know they're Chelsea they'll cling on to anything. Have we really missed an opportunity not winning against Brighton do you think? I would prefer because not in the first one tomorrow they've got a Bob Ross on the table. Yeah so we're still one. If they'd beaten Brighton yesterday it would have been I think would have been six points behind Liverpool something like that. I think like three points behind Liverpool so oh my god no i think we'll be fine with forest because we're on 40 they're on 37 but our goal difference is let me do some quick that's 14 better than theirs so unless they beat wolves 15 nil we should still end it this week in seconds but i mean this premier league is weird man you can't call anything
00:27:11
Speaker
Um, the last thing that I kind of want to talk about regarding results from around, around about is the game that happened. Well, actually it's finished about three hours ago, which was, uh, Liverpool to Manchester United to even more frustrating. Josh, the Liverpool have dropped. Well, actually no Rodney will go to you because you said it yourself. Why didn't you watch this game?
00:27:33
Speaker
Because I knew, this lost three times it's happened. When Arsenal have gone into the weekend, drawing a game in which they need to win to get the three points and close the gap, waiting on the Liverpool result, assuming they win, Liverpool also drop points. And then that draw becomes even more devastating because you know you could have closed the gap. The moment we drew against Brighton, everyone was going into this game thinking they're going to absolutely eviscerate Man United. And I said, you know what happened? They'll probably get a draw. And we'll look back at this Brighton game and be even more devastated because this was a true chance to close the gap. That's why I didn't watch it. I had a feeling.
00:28:03
Speaker
You were smart. I mean, I both oh will say it was a very funny game as a neutral. I was watching it with two United fans, a Scouser and a Watford fan. And me and the Watford fan had the best time of our lives. We run we were on the non-alcoholic lagers. We were just in the corner sipping guy. This is amazing. Watching a bar rip itself apart. In particular, if you get to see any of the highlights, Diallo's misses were phenomenal. Phenomenal.
00:28:35
Speaker
um Matt said, Josh, that we shouldn't talk about a title challenge until we get a few on the run. we've kind of We're not in the title race, we're saying now. Do you reckon this is going to get back on? Obviously Liverpool have slipped a bit today. Can you see that continuing? Hopefully.
00:28:50
Speaker
Um, I do see Liverpool dropping points, but the problem is I don't see Arsenal gaining points, you know, I don't see what's going on around. So look, you know, ah I'll take second, you know, if you could get a, you know, uh, Carlin cup, we and we knew it on kylin but you put it in our caribou cup now. yeah but But you know, for for the young people, I'm old, you know, so when it it's Carlin cup, it's the one that hits proper and true. Yeah, we get that.
00:29:18
Speaker
And we go for the Champions League and we finish second. I guess I have to take it, you know, considering the season we're having, considering our squad is very thin. And Altata knows this, but you know, it's not been addressed. Hopefully in the summer, it gets addressed. We don't have a spin squad. So we do get injuries. It's not that much of a crisis at Arsenal. Fingers crossed. I mean, it's mad that we're talking about it being a slight crisis and we're in second. Like, it's crazy. But, you know, the last two seasons have done to us. as heavy as the head that almost wore the crown, as they say. Well, that's it for today's episode. Our next Premier League game is an interesting one. Our next Premier League game is against our bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur

and the Emirates on the 15th. But of course our next game is this Tuesday, which is in the EFL, oh sorry, the Carlin Cup. Let's give it this proper name against Newcastle. And then I believe we have an FA Cup fixture coming up in the middle of that as well against Manchester United. So there's plenty of football to go and we'll keep you abreast of all of that. Tomorrow we'll be doing a look back at the initial predictions that we made at the halfway point of this season. So we'll be going through all of the predictions that the podcast has made and seeing how accurately they're turning out. I mean, if you ask me, Darwin Nunez still has time to become the top goal scorer. plenty of time there and and then on Wednesday we'll be looking at some fun transfer news from around the world but for today that is it from us at the Daily Arsenal Podcast.
