00:00:51
Speaker
Yeah, pretty chilled one. I mean, I'm working New Year's Eve and then, ah no, in my luck, I'll probably be in the centre in the center of London working on New Year's Day. So, yeah, fun times. Oh, God. I mean, I'm working a bar New Year's Eve, but that sounds worse. um you' You're going to be cycling around bodies in the gutter and everything. It's going to be a rough day for you.

Introducing the Daily Arsenal Awards

00:01:18
Speaker
We thought it was apt to look back at the year of 2024 and do our Daily Arsenal Awards. It's the first time we've done it. We've got a few awards and we'll probably build on it as the show builds. But for now, what I'd like to start off with, gents, is goal of the year. So effectively the PUSCAS award for the Daily Arsenal team. Now this can be any goal from any league at any point anytime within 2024. I've got a few ideas but I'd like to know if Jamie any goals stand out to you in that sort of frame of mind. um
00:01:57
Speaker
I think Garnaccio against Everton, I mean, yeah thought that was like, I mean, the commentary behind it, the Gary Neville, whoa, and all that, you know, like, you you can't beat it. You honestly can't beat it. I mean, yeah, it's mad to think that United are in the in the state they're in now. um But yeah, yeah, for me, I think Garnaccio would probably be up there.
00:02:19
Speaker
Okay. I'm just going to check very quickly. I'm afraid that was 2023.
00:02:28
Speaker
There we go. There we go. I mean, I think that one, United season so far just toquaify I think it won the Pushcast Award last year, to be fair. I think it was one of the big ones. Any jump to mind for you, Josh? If they don't, I have some suggestions. um You know, the catch was my one as well, but I was thinking it it might have just been 23, because I think it was around this time last year when he scored it. i mean I remember watching it, and I'm literally watching it live, and then I was like, I couldn't

Debating the Goal of the Year

00:02:57
Speaker
believe it. um
00:02:59
Speaker
no i mean i think goals now i think they're pretty boring if i'll be honest with you actually i've got one oh oh god john duran i can't remember it was against everton yeah villa park smashed it laced the ball top left hand corner i mean strike quality was just amazing it was a beauty of a finish it was stunning and it is on my list so to get my list i watched a 20 minute video of the best goals of 2024 you know those awful compilation videos which have just horrible techno music in the background that have probably been put together by a 15 year old but it was kind of helpful for this
00:03:39
Speaker
So a few other ones, do you remember it was earlier in the year Bernardo Silva against Newcastle, the balls played into him by Harland and he just does a little tuck behind the sort of like back heels it into the goal on the far end of the ah far post, that was a lovely finish. Eze against Burnley, Elise crossed the ball in with an in swinging cross and Eze meets it but sort of does ah a little bit Ibrahimovic-esque leaps into the air and his foot and he sort of chop kicks it in the other direction just to tuck it into the goal past James Trafford. Durand versus Everton was one of them. I do have one against Arsenal.
00:04:18
Speaker
James Justin's volley against Arsenal. Oh, yeah. what's it It was a beauty. It it hurt to watch, but it was a beauty. There's also a player called Arthur Masuaku, who scored a free kick in the African Cup of Nations, which was gorgeous. Serge Gnabry performed an aerial back heel for Bayern Munich, which was an absolute gorge. Lamenia Mal for Spain against France, you know, when he tucked inside and hit that left foot curler. That was a strike, yes. It was a strike.
00:04:47
Speaker
And it was the moment, I think, when your mouth said to the world, I'm here. Yeah. Lameen has arrived. But the one that I picked up and that I chose anyway from my vast collection of watching a hundred bloody goals was Max Möderstedt for Hoffenheim.
00:05:07
Speaker
Now, I'd be surprised if either of you have seen this goal, because it is for Hoffenheim, but its he is effectively falling backwards away from goal, connects with a volley, but rather than getting any of the strength from his leg, which is already outstretched, all of the strength of the volley comes from his ankle.
00:05:26
Speaker
and he flicks his ankle and sends it top corner. It is a beautiful finish. So if you get the chancelessness, Max Möderstedt of Hoffenheim Volley, I'd highly recommend going and checking it out. But I would be willing to go with the John Duran one, because I think it was such a gorgeous finish, unless any of those other ones that triggered your memory sort of impact you otherwise. There there was one that's one that I thought you had mentioned. I thought you had mentioned Palmer's one in the final.
00:05:55
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Yeah, that was a good finish. That was a really nice finish. Even though we didn't win, but you know. I mean, Palmer has had a lot of really good finishes this year as well. I think, emotionally, I'd consider Olly Watkins winner in the semi-final. Yep, that too. That too. Yeah. Because that sent me places, that did. just I think I smashed about eight glasses in the pub I was watching it in, just like I had dessert.
00:06:25
Speaker
Oh, I quite like the Parma shout in the final. just Just for the emotional feeling of. It's a bit like when Luke Shaw scored the free kick in the World Cup semi. That one hits hard home. Would you be happy to concede that one, Jamie? yeah Yeah, I think just for

Saves Showdown: Raya vs. Martinez

00:06:44
Speaker
me. I mean, I still think Duran's strike against uh against Everton was just I mean the fact that he was given the time and space to just connect beautifully with the ball was something else but yeah I'd yeah Palmer that was such a bad shout to be such a clean finish wasn't it it was such a beautiful finish uh next up is save of the year so um of two already oh okay give us one Jamie then we'll go to Josh
00:07:12
Speaker
I'm going David Ryer, Aston Villa. Others can't tell me anything better. You can't tell me anything better unless you're thinking of my second alternative. Are there any others to jump to your mind Josh before we hear Jamie's second? No, that that for me this is, you know, it's a no-brainer. I mean, the doubles, the way he gets back up so quickly, I mean, and I'm not even his fan, you know, I don't even like that. Not the Atalanta double save that he pulled off as well.
00:07:39
Speaker
i the one just gets it for me because I was thinking and Watson definitely scored. I've already just conceded, oh, you they're back in it now, you know, and he just goes and says it. So for me, that was just that. But then again, Martin has won the other day.
00:07:56
Speaker
Martinez was on my list. You know what, I think I might go Martinez, you know. I think I changed my mind, I've got Martinez. Because I was literally watching the match and I couldn't believe he made that save, it was only a couple of weeks ago. But then he did put the ball in. But then he did put the ball in his own net, like when he tried to catch it.
00:08:18
Speaker
it He sullied it somewhat, didn't he, with that second one. But I'll be honest, that save reminded me of, like, David Seaman. That iconic England save, just pulling it off of the line. um That one's up there for me. Now, I've picked a controversial one, because I think it was the most important save of the year. Okay. Stefan Ortega versus Hyung Min Sun.
00:08:44
Speaker
when human son was bearing down on goal about to take two points off of Manchester City and hand Arsenal the title and Ortega saved it. I think- Did he really? I don't think- Did he really? I don't think it's the best save. Just think about what you're saying there. Jamie, I know. Think about what you're saying. I'm well aware. I'm well aware. But I don't think it's the best save. I think it's the most impactful save potentially.
00:09:13
Speaker
No, Sun knew it's Arsenal. I can't hand Arsenal the title. So you know what, I'm just gonna i'm just goingnna make Stefan Ortega look really good. So you know what, I'm just gonna get him to try and save it. Alright, look, I wanted to throw a spanner in the works. It's fine. i i I feel the virtual slap on my wrists but from both of you. It stings. So I'm happy to say... I love the Raya double. I think the only thing that stops at beating out Martinez is the fact that Watkins directed the header straight at him for the follow-up. I think that's the only thing that that's the only thing that takes away from it. No, I'm still going David Raya. That's fine, Jamie. Do you know what? um um I'm supporting David Raya. That's fine. Disagreements make us more interesting. yes and You're wrong, but I respect your opinion deeply.
00:10:05
Speaker
just think um about just think about just think about it just think about what your just think about your answer and the impact of your answer just think about that But the marvellous one, when you're watching it live, I couldn't believe you saved it. I couldn't believe you saved it. And then you watched the replay again, and it was like, he literally just walked that scoot off of the line. Like, you should go in, you know? I've never seen a team like that out before. It was remarkable athleticism, wasn't it? And you know what? Aaron Ramsdale would have won it the season before with his save from Madder's free kick. So we can't have, you know, two Arsenal goalkeepers. It'd look like we're hogging the limelight.
00:10:42
Speaker
um The next award I'd like to discuss before we take a little break. the footballer of the year.

Footballer of the Year Discussion

00:10:50
Speaker
Now, again, this is open to any footballer from any place. Obviously, one in particular won the Ballon d'Or, which generally is considered the best footballer of the year. However, I would love to know if either of you had any other opinions about a player who should be considered or who you think arguably had a better year. So I'm gonna start this time with Josh, footballer of the year.
00:11:17
Speaker
You know, it is right. Like when I look at football and football players these days, and we look the Ballon d'Or, there was no one really that stood out as in, you know, back when we had the Messi and Ronaldo's and yeah even when Henri was there, you know, there was a kind of a clear winner. For me, I'm gonna have to go Roger, because he's the only one I can see that's been so impactful man, such a city, and for Spain, and he kind of I mean, he did all the did the ugly work, the dirty work, you know, the work that's not really pretty, but yeah, there's no, there's no flair player that I can see that stands out for being best player of the year. Like if you go, um, Vinicias Jr., you know, he's all right. He had an okay season, but it wasn't, it wasn't quite amazing. Was it nothing outstanding? It wasn't nothing outstanding, you know, and um I think he was like next to me favorite. So I had to go to Roger even that subject. Okay. What about you, Jamie?
00:12:11
Speaker
Oh, he's just coughing.
00:12:15
Speaker
Do you know what? JD kind of mentioned it and it's the fact that not not many players stood out to me. um I think most Salah honorable mention maybe. Yeah. But again, for me, was it enough? You know, it could be enough. If he was to continue doing what he's doing now, then I'd say, yeah, you know, he has to be in contention for the next Ballon d'Or. But again, ah like JD said, I don't think anyone really kind of really stood out to me. Again, probably
00:12:54
Speaker
It's a difficult one, but yeah, I'd go with Rodry as well. You're right. In terms of firecracker players, there's nowhere near as many as there used to be. I do have one suggestion, and it's not one, because they're technically not playing football anymore. I think Tony Cruz had a phenomenal year.
00:13:15
Speaker
If that handball hadn't been given in the Euros, Germany would have won the Euros and he would have won La Liga, Champions League and the Euros and been a pivotal player in all of it and still retired halfway through the year. And at that point I would say Ballon d'Or winner, best player of the year. It's hard to look past Rotary, but I think you've got to mention Cruz in there because realistically one of the best midfielders that has ever played the game in my opinion.
00:13:42
Speaker
do think he is like i do think there's that underratedness to him as well like he doesn't get spoken about a lot he kind of just works in the shadows but yeah you know not a lot of us see it so i do get where you're coming from with that So I'm going to say him and I'm going to cause them more. It's a fair shout out to be fair. Like, you know, I'm either even retired, like guys still, he's still a baller. You know what I mean? He's still, he I mean, he proved a lot like this season and baller season. It doesn't make any sense. You know, guys just amazing, you know?
00:14:13
Speaker
He is. I'm sorry to cut across you, Josh, but I've just seen Jamie smiling like a loon and rubbing his hands together, which suggests something has changed in one of the games that's being played currently on this Monday evening. Jamie, fill us in on this slow sports news. What's going on? Ipswich 2. Let me repeat that again. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on a minute. Ipswich 2.
00:14:38
Speaker
Chelsea Nill. Yes! And he's the former Arsenal boy, Amari Hutchinson. No way! you You'll pick out of the season. Oh no! Pick yourself up, Hutchinson. Pick yourself up. Jamie's going to be bouncing for the entire record now, isn't he? We've lost it.
00:14:59
Speaker
Right, that is it for the first three awards. We're going to take a ah brief break. When we come back, we have a two slightly differently focused awards. So we'll be back just after this message from our partners at Zencaster. Here at Global Sports Podcast Network, we spend a lot of time selecting our delivery platform.
00:15:17
Speaker
Zencaster came out the clear winner. With 4K video recording from your phone and AI editing that automatically removes all those ums and ahs, it's super easy to start a podcast that sounds great and is delivered efficiently.
00:15:35
Speaker
If you're ready to tell your story, check out the link in the show description to learn more about Zencaster. And welcome back to the Daily Arsenal 2024 award show. It's New Year's Day. It's technically 2025, but we are looking back to 2024. And the next award that is up for debate is my favourite one of the bunch. It is the Most Spursy Award. Now, of course, what we mean by this, Spurs are a joke of the club.
00:16:03
Speaker
they always haven't always will always haven't always will thank you jamie absolutely get that no they constantly make mistakes they're constantly letting themselves oh who whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa jd what's with the wow whoa but I said, wow. that so I mean, you guys have just really got in for them, you know? Of course we are. There's no point. not They're not a big team. You know what I mean? There's no point in talking about them, really. It's true. It's kind of like the Simpsons being stop it. He's already dead. You know, isn't it?
00:16:36
Speaker
But the Spursie award goes to just something that really made us laugh and that can be a team, it can be a player, it can be anything in the world of football in 2024. And I'm very happy to get the ball rolling. My Spursie nomination is Harry Kane.

The Spursy Award: Nominees and Winner

00:16:56
Speaker
because he moved to the Bundesliga. He moved to Bayern Munich for huge money. At the end, at the beginning of this year, it was the end of his first proper season, things were looking good. He was finally going to win a trophy. What happened? Bayern Leverkusen came along.
00:17:13
Speaker
Harry Kane has still not won a trophy and at the end of 2020, I know that includes England as well, but realistically at the end of 2024 when I look back at what has been a bit of an up and down year in terms of football, the fact that Harry Kane still hasn't won a trophy for me is such a beautiful spursy element to the world of football and that is my nomination for the spursy player team of football.
00:17:39
Speaker
um Jamie, let's let's hear your suggestions. I think it's pretty obvious, isn't it? Surely it's Tottenham. Spursy, Tottenham, kind of go hand in hand. but no said you so You sit there and and you know we we speak about our how, oh, well, Spurs can go do this and Spurs can go do that, but, oh, but hold on a minute, they can't go beat Palace, they can't go beat Ipswich, they can't do this, they can't do that. you know Drew to Wolves. And then you've just got Big Ann saying, see, we are, mate.
00:18:06
Speaker
yeah That's how I play. I'm not going to change how I play. We're losing. I don't care, actually. I don't care about losing games. It's it's just how I play. I like to play this football and whatever happens happens, mate. Don't question it. but Five star. Five star performance. Bravo. Thank you. Three years of acting school have finally paid off.
00:18:26
Speaker
<unk> What was it? 28 grand debt. I'm slowly paying off with every paycheck. Yes, worth it. What about you, Josh? If you had to have a spursy nomination for this year, is there anybody that you'd like to single out as being particularly embarrassing or funny or failures?
00:18:46
Speaker
Um, well, just before I add on that, I just want to correct Jamie, you know, no one really talks about Tottenham anyway, you know? Of course! Of course! Of course! I've got to be honest, like, nobody that, one of the last, the last time they were actually, that someone spoke about Tottenham, it was probably like 2016 when they were kind of, the Pochettino was there, no, it was kind of an entire race. Other than that, you know, they're not going to get top four. They're not a top four team, you know? I think you need to, you need to repeat that again for the Arsenal listeners, listeners. Hook it to my veins pop them are not a top 14. They're best to be honest at best. They're probably a top six top so ah stop it I mean the only time that people talk about Spurs now is neutrals going I love watching Spurs but because you never know what you're gonna get Go
00:19:41
Speaker
um ah It's a hard one, you know, the Harry Kane one, that was that was probably gonna be my one. e think I think you have to call Tottenham as well. There's three I've got. I've got the Harry Kane one, let's be, right? I think Tottenham just can't keep a lead. I think that's just so spazzy, you know? yeah And you see the other day when I was in Sri Lanka and I can't remember how we played it, we ran into each other. Oh, yes! It was pulled back.
00:20:09
Speaker
That's like, I have to get mentioned, I'm sorry, but that's just so spooky.
00:20:16
Speaker
And then, um, and then mr the, um, the Sterling, you know, Stirling and XR. Oh my God. Sterling. the out and in the mind i don't I don't know what he does. You know, I don't know if he goes to training. I don't know if he showers, you know, I don't know what he does. The thing is right we with Sterling. It's been, it's been really interesting because the thing is right. He, when he first joined, he put out this announcement video on Arsenal socials and he was like, well, I'm here. I'm back. I'm here to prove a point. I'm here to prove a point.
00:20:46
Speaker
but sorry, what point have you proved? Scoring in the Carabao Cup and that's it. Okay, we'll give you a little trophy at the end of the season for it. He's proved Maresca right, is what he's proved. Yes. That's what he's done. I think also in this category, we can't be remiss by mentioning a certain other blue team, Manchester City, their drop-off of course has been beautifully spursy.
00:21:14
Speaker
Like, ah seeing them collapse, and I mean i live amongst so many city fans. After that Leicester game, they're all like, we're back, we're back now, we're back at it. I don't know if either of you saw that Leicester game. It was shockingly bad. They were not good. No, no, horrible.
00:21:34
Speaker
so we have to decide gents is it Harry Kane Tottenham Hotspur Raheem Sterling on Manchester City who had the most spurs of the year of them all that is really not easy that's not easy at all I'm still sticking to my guns I'm still saying spurs sp ah burie both go handin hand they know I think it's got to be Hurricane because it's such a split because he's from Spurs as well anything to so leave Tottenham to you know I want to go of get win trophies and then literally there'll be nothing. And then he's golden boot in as shape as a cannon as well.
00:22:18
Speaker
mean I think that's just so spicy, I'm sorry. are they winds Okay, the most spursy individual of the year is, of course, Harry Kane. Screw you, Harry. you not just ah You're not just out of the Champions League, but you are the spursiest person of the year in terms of football. ah The next award is much nicer. We've talked about all the the rubbish of this year. This is the most wholesome moment of the year. This could be a team that you're happy did really well. It could be an individual who you're really enjoying seeing flourish in 2024. Again, I'm happy to kick starters off if you want to think of some.

Celebrating Wholesome Football Moments

00:22:59
Speaker
Watching Jakka lift a league title
00:23:03
Speaker
made me really smile. Now, admittedly, I would have loved it to be in our colours, but he was never going to stay at Arsenal long. And watching him after he did so well the season before, lift that trophy, I was absolutely chuffed for him. And it added to the spursiness of Harry Kane, that Kane didn't get to lift the title. The fact that Granite Jaka lifted the Bundesliga before Harry Kane,
00:23:27
Speaker
That's really saying something. That makes me smile more than I can adequately explain. What about you, Josh, in terms of maybe a team or a player who you've been really happy to see? Have a good year.
00:23:39
Speaker
I think you've got to pay labor because, you know, the um but and i think I think that's just close hand in hand. I mean, no one thought they would have been, you know, unbeaten for the whole season. Do you know what I mean? You know, they, yeah, they were just amazing. So yeah, for me, they went out, there it was almost in every game, they only lost their own one game to Atlanta in their opening final. That was it. So um and I don't think I've ever seen that ever in football. No.
00:24:05
Speaker
Yeah, so it has to be them. And interestingly enough, Atalanta were my second pick because they're a team who have done so much and for so long languished in Serie A. But at the moment, they're just ripping it apart. And they're in the top eight of the Champions League. They're top of Serie A. They are so good at the moment. And it's a team who deserve it as well. So they're another pick for me. But I think you're right. Leverkusen was so strong. What about you, Jamie? I mean, I'm sure Amari Hutchinson's in there for you as your wholesome. especially after what we just heard to be honest with you i would probably go do you know what i'd go villa from like last year's villa team villa you know you look at them now
00:24:47
Speaker
You know, they are, you know, no one thought they would get top four, get Champions League football. The fact they tussled with Spurs to get that last spot and for Villa to come out successful. Also, you know, we speak of Bayern Munich, but the fact that Villa went and beat Bayern Munich thanks to John Durand, like that is just insane alone.
00:25:08
Speaker
It's beautiful, isn't it? It's a lovely thought. Do you know what? For this one, I'm not going to make us pick an individual one because it's a happy award. So all of those are our most wholesome moments of 2024. And after those two little sort of slightly more out there awards, we're going to take a little break. We're going to hear from the Global Sports Podcast Network. And when we come back, it's time to focus on Arsenal in 2024. And we're going to be looking at our goal of the year and our player of the year. So we'll be back just after this message.

Global Sports Podcast Network, every club, every day. And welcome back to the Daily Arsenal Awards episode. We have talked about our picks for the best player in the world, the goal of the year, the save of the year, the most spursy individual of the year, and the things that made us smile the most in 2024.
00:26:28
Speaker
But it is time to focus on

Arsenal's Most Significant Goals

00:26:30
Speaker
Arsenal. First up, the Arsenal goal of the year. So Arsenal goal of 2024. There's one in particular that stands out for me. But Jamie, any goals from Arsenal that spring to mind? No. Good question. um Wow.
00:26:47
Speaker
um
00:26:50
Speaker
I think for me, honorable mention, I'd go probably the Jay Zeus hat trick against Palace. I just think that that game really kind of, it's it's freshened his career a little bit here. You know, for for so long we've been wanting Jay Zeus to just kind of just get back to where he once was before. And I know like, obviously it's only been a couple of games since he's gone and done his heroics, but I would, I'd give that an honorable mention for Jay Zeus. Apart from that, I can't, I've been, I really can't think. What about you, Josh?
00:27:28

um I have one in mind, and it's not particularly ah a good goal or anything like that, but it's a tough place to go to. I'm a afraid to them read them tomorrow. And that's Havoc's Go against Brentford.
00:27:43
Speaker
I think he came on the last minute there. And I don't think he played well. We needed to get the three points. And it's not really the goal of the season. It was just in that moment in time, we really need the win. I think we're going to a battle running games and that kind of kickstart us our title push after that.
00:28:03
Speaker
so um For me it was the most meaningful goal, because I didn't think he would score. But yeah, Havoc says go against Frankfurt. I think Jamie's about to burst. Well, I mean, I never would have thought that in my wildest dreams. Kai, if you're listening, have a great new year now son. Have a great new year now. I still hear you.
00:28:27
Speaker
You know, I'm going to change my wholesome moment of the year to that one right there. That's my wholesome moment of the year now. ah For the Arsenal goal that I picked is the goal that I celebrated the most virulently. And that was Calla Fiore's goal against Manchester City.
00:28:44
Speaker
the looping finish, but I'm actually going to agree with Josh on this one. That Haverts goal was so important to Arsenal and I think it changed everything for 2024 as a year and our expectations as well of what this Arsenal team can do. So it's kind of Haverts against Brentford and finally the last thing we've got a few minutes left on the podcast talking about the Arsenal player of the year. This is tough.
00:29:09
Speaker
because there's been lots of standout players, but there's also been a lot of injuries. So, Josh, if you were to pick one standout player, why is it Havertz? I was waiting. just I was waiting. He's just so amazing. I know all jokes aside, and it has to be Sakhar. I think Sakhar, for me, he's just our boy, you know, the fact that he's injured now, you know, we're going to really see what the atrocities made up about him. Yeah.
00:29:39
Speaker
It's scary the thought of two months without our main man effectively. What about you, Jamie? Have you got a different nomination? Do you know what? I had two in mind. Sucker was one of them. Yeah. Sucker was one of them. And I would also go for Gabrielle. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's so good. I'd go for Gabrielle. I mean, you, I mean, we've spoken about it before in a previous pod, you know, the header against Spurs and the fact that his set pieces have just been, like, him offset pieces have just been unreal. And, you know, we've said it before, like, yes, Saliba does get a lot of the plaudits, but, I mean, today, I mean, he deserves to be in the limelight, deserves to be in the limelight.
00:30:16
Speaker
I actually agree. I think that Gabrielle has had a better 2024 defensively and from set pieces than Saliba has. I think he's been better, honestly. Yeah. Yeah. I think Saliba's been a little, I think his age has shown a little bit Saliba this year and he's got a little bit more maturity to gain. He's still great, but I think Gabrielle has been the standout. Mine was Martin Erdegard because When he was out for three months, I've never seen one player have such an impact on our squad as that. And the way that he plays football is so silky and so beautiful. And it's it's kind of like having our own Kevin De Bruyne. And that is just it's a beautiful thing to see. However, if we have to pick one, I am willing to concede to my namesake, Mr Duncan,
00:31:10
Speaker
because it is so hard to look past Pekaya Saka. He is Mr Arsenal, isn't he, like JD said you know like JD said as well this uh the next two months are really going to be a real test to see how we cope without him you know that he's going to be missing out on some big games I know Champions League wise we you know we've got um Zargregg at the Emirates and then are away to Girona but yeah again this is going to be a this is going to be a real demanding test and also it kind of shows Martinelli a little bit like you know for Martinelli
00:31:46
Speaker
He's been under the spotlight quite a bit this season, and if he could go on a decent little run in place of Saka, I mean, I'd like to see him make a name for himself. I think it's his last chance, honestly. I think this is his last chance with Saka out. And do you know how much I love Martinelli, but I was ah talking about it on the title contenders podcast with the Liverpool lot. I think this, if Martinelli doesn't step up now, I think in the summer he could be replaced.
00:32:14
Speaker
Oh yeah, I actually agree with you on that. yeah It's mad to think, but I do agree with you on that, yeah. I know.

Award Winners Recap and Closing Remarks

00:32:21
Speaker
So that is it for the Arsenal Awards 2024. We'll go through our winners again. The winner for goal of the year was John Duran against Everton, absolute screamer. The save of the year was Emi Martinez against Nottingham Forest, where he dragged it off the line. The footballer of the year, we did eventually decide on Roger E.
00:32:40
Speaker
The most spursy individual was Harry Kane, of course. The most wholesome moments of the year were effectively Bayern Leverkusen and them doing what they did so brilliantly. The Arsenal Player of the Year bachioss saer and our goal of the year, who would have thought it, nominated by Josh Duncan, goes to the one and only King Kai Havertz. And on that footballer's name, we're going to wrap up 2024.
