God's Words to Job & Friends

00:01:10
Speaker
We are going to be reading our last day in Job. Oh my gosh, what a book this has been, hasn't it? I love that it was put all together so that we had one continuous story at one time rather than ah having other stories interjected.
00:01:29
Speaker
It was so nice.
00:01:32
Speaker
So today we are going to be hearing from God and God is going to be talking to Job as well as to the three friends who were with Job who were less than helpful.
00:01:44
Speaker
So let's see what happens today.
00:01:49
Speaker
This count covers chapters 40, 41, and 42 and it will complete the book of Job. Our first chapter, chapter 40, is entitled, Answer Me.
00:02:04
Speaker
And this is God speaking to us now and to Job. Will you tell me what's right and wrong? Asked God. You blame me, so answer me.
00:02:18
Speaker
I don't feel good about myself, said Job. How can I answer you? I will put my hand over my mouth. Then God talked to Job from the storm.
00:02:33
Speaker
Get ready like a man should. I will ask you questions and you will answer me. Will you tell me that I am not fair?
00:02:46
Speaker
Will you blame me so you can make yourself right? Do you have a strong arm like mine? Can your voice thunder like mine? Try to wear my brightness and beauty.
00:03:02
Speaker
Try to make my greatness your clothes. Look at proud people and make them feel like nothing. Give all sinful people a grave in the dust.
00:03:15
Speaker
Can you do these things? If you can, I will say your own hand can save you.
00:03:24
Speaker
Look at the elephant. I made him just as I made you. He eats grass like an ox does. His legs are strong.
00:03:37
Speaker
His belly muscles have power. His trunk swings like a cedar tree. His bones are like metal bars.
00:03:48
Speaker
He is one of the best of all I made. He lets me come near him. All the wild animals play close by.

Job's Acknowledgment & Restoration

00:04:00
Speaker
but he hides under the water plants. The river fills up and rushes by, but he is not scared. He is safe even if the water comes up to his mouth.
00:04:16
Speaker
An Animal That Is Not Afraid Chapter 41 Can you catch a leviathan with a fish hook? asked God. Can you make him be a pet?
00:04:29
Speaker
like a bird. Can you catch him with a spear? If you touch him, he will give you a fight to remember. You won't ever touch him again.
00:04:41
Speaker
Nobody is strong enough to get him out of the water. So who can stand against me? Who can say I owe anything to anybody?
00:04:54
Speaker
Everything under heaven is mine. I will tell about the leviathan's legs. I will tell how strong and beautiful he is.
00:05:07
Speaker
Who can take his skin off?
00:05:16
Speaker
Who dares to open his mouth? Who can try to ride him? It has rows of scary teeth inside his mouth. When he breathes hard, he throws out flashes of light.
00:05:32
Speaker
Fire flows out of his mouth. Smoke flows out of his nose. His neck is strong. His chest is hard like a rock.
00:05:43
Speaker
Strong people are scared when he stands up, and they step back when he moves. A sword does not hurt him. Iron is like dry grass to him.
00:05:56
Speaker
Arrows don't make him run away. Stones are like nothing. Sharp pieces of his hide stick out under him. It makes a trail when he goes through the mud.
00:06:08
Speaker
He makes waves in the sea. He makes deep water look like it is boiling. He leaves a shining line behind him. Nothing on earth is quite like him.
00:06:23
Speaker
He is an animal that's not afraid of anything. He looks down on proud people and he is the king over all proud things.
00:06:35
Speaker
Chapter 42 Things Too Wonderful For Me Then Job said these words to God, "'I know that you can do all things.
00:06:47
Speaker
Nothing can stop your plans.' You asked who talks without knowing what he says. I talked about things I didn't understand.
00:07:02
Speaker
I talked about things too wonderful for me to know. i had heard of you, but now I have seen you, so I don't feel good about myself and I'm sorry.
00:07:19
Speaker
Then God talked to Eliphaz. I am angry at you. i am angry at your two friends too. You didn't say what was right, but Job did.
00:07:32
Speaker
So go to Job and give him bulls and rams. He will offer them to me as a gift. Job will pray for you and I will listen to him and then I won't pay you back for the wrong you have done.
00:07:46
Speaker
So Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar did what God said, and God listened to Job's prayer.

Reflection on God's Creations & Lessons from Job

00:07:56
Speaker
Then God made Job rich again, and God gave Job two times as much as he had before.
00:08:04
Speaker
Job's brothers and sisters came to his house. His friends came. They ate with Job, and they cheered him up. Each person gave Job a piece of silver and a gold ring.
00:08:20
Speaker
God sent many good things to Job. God sent more than he had before. Job ended up with 14,000 sheep, camels, oxen,
00:08:34
Speaker
and one thousand donkeys he had seven more sons and three more daughters And his daughters were more beautiful than any other women.
00:08:48
Speaker
Job lived a long time after this. He lived to see his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. And he died a very old man.
00:09:00
Speaker
Our Big Bible tells us that he lived to be 140 years old after this. So he lived 140 more years and saw his family to four generations.
00:09:14
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading.
00:09:19
Speaker
Those were some incredible things that we read about today, weren't they?
00:09:26
Speaker
In the Big Bible, the elephant is called the behemoth. And we're not entirely certain about what that animal Leviathan is. Some think it may be a crocodile, but that doesn't explain the ah this sense of smoke and light and fire type thing coming out of him.
00:09:46
Speaker
So it kind of made me think of Godzilla with his atomic breath. So God made incredible creatures. And we spoke a couple of days ago about the fact that God not only made every single thing, but he cares about every single animal.
00:10:04
Speaker
And God, and we talked about the fact that he made everything just like he made you and me. And that's exactly what God said today. He said, I made the behemoth just like I made you.
00:10:22
Speaker
I love today's reading. It was amazing. I love how Job said that he had heard about God, but now he had seen him. Our God is the God who sees us.
00:10:35
Speaker
And one day we will get to see him too. And I love how God described himself. He said that he was, had brightness and beauty and that we, and had great, he has greatness.
00:10:52
Speaker
So i God is is going to be so incredibly beautiful to look at. More beautiful than anything or anyone we have ever seen. And I just, that is so exciting, don't you think?
00:11:05
Speaker
Our God is so beautiful. And he is love. He is so gracious and so wise.
00:11:18
Speaker
God asked Job today, will you tell me what is right and wrong? Will you tell me that I am not fair? God knew that Job was going to prevail.
00:11:31
Speaker
God knew that no matter what, Job would not falter in his faith to God, that he would not say bad things about him, like the adversary told him ah advised God that he that Job would do.
00:11:48
Speaker
And so God allowed these things to happen. knowing full well that Job would not turn away from God. And Job, of course, proved God to be correct.
00:12:00
Speaker
And God does not set us up for failure. God knows that we can prevail. That is a big lesson for us.
00:12:11
Speaker
God doesn't give us opportunities to fail. He gives us opportunities so that we may succeed. and We've said before, or we've heard in the past in in general, that God doesn't give us more than we can handle.
00:12:27
Speaker
That he always gives us what we can deal with. That it may be difficult. And so even though there were ah there was a lot that Job had to deal with, and he was upset during the process, God still did not set him up for failure.
00:12:43
Speaker
God knew that he would prevail and that he would be successful and that he would not speak poorly because he knew Job's heart. He knew that he turned away from sin And Job could not understand why he was going through that.
00:13:01
Speaker
And it can be hard because we may not understand why we are going through something. But we need to remember that God does not set us up for failure.
00:13:12
Speaker
God sets us up for success. And we need only to look to him and wait for whatever it is that we are going through to be passed. It may be that we even have something wrong.
00:13:26
Speaker
that ends up leading to our revenge or our eventual death. But even then, we are successful in the fact that we need to not ah speak poorly about him, and we know that we will see him.
00:13:42
Speaker
Death is a transition from our earthly state to our spiritual state. So it is not loss. It is simply the means that are necessary for us to transition to where we reach him in person, rather than simply being connected to him with our spirit, because we know that we are one with him.
00:14:05
Speaker
We just simply cannot yet see his beauty. We have only Jesus that we can imagine, and because he is our closest ah representation of God.
00:14:18
Speaker
He said that he and the father were one. So he is our closest representation as to what God looked like. And so there is nothing that they can happen that will put us on the losing side.
00:14:34
Speaker
God knows that every that how the story will end. And we know from Revelation that the story will end with a new heaven and a new earth.
00:14:45
Speaker
And God

Humility & Belonging to God

00:14:46
Speaker
is always on the winning side. so we just need to remember that. And it can be difficult to go through things, but that is something that we can look forward to is knowing that no matter what difficulty we are going through,
00:15:01
Speaker
We are still on the winning side, even if it means our physical transition ah to seeing him in person. That is still a win. Let's see if there was anything else. Ah, God said to Job, who can say I owe anything to anybody?
00:15:20
Speaker
Everything under heaven is mine. We need to remember that God does not owe us anything. Job, as we mentioned, and we talked about that when things are going wrong, we we can have a tendency to list all the things we have done right.
00:15:36
Speaker
And why would we deserve this? And as though God owes us for our good behavior. And God is telling us who can say that he owes anything to anybody because everybody belongs to him.
00:15:54
Speaker
Everything under heaven is his. Every person belongs to him. We've spoken about that recently. So God does not owe us a life free of difficulty because we have been good.
00:16:11
Speaker
He can allow us to go through anything. In the same way that ah we have pets and we put them through anything because they are our pets and we have expectations for what is considered humane.
00:16:26
Speaker
But in general, an animal belongs to us and we can do anything. And the dog cannot say or the cat or the bird or whatever pet we have, it cannot say.
00:16:38
Speaker
say anything about that. It belongs to us. On a grander scale, we also belong to God. And who can say what he can do with what belongs to him?
00:16:51
Speaker
We belong to God. All people do. And

Conclusion & Call to Action

00:16:56
Speaker
God does not owe us anything. but we are expected to do what is right and to do what is fair and to live the lives that he created for us so that we have free choice, but we should may be making the choice to do good because we help people when we do good, as we read in Job, and it is only ourselves we hurt when we sin.
00:17:23
Speaker
So we have a lot of things to think about with the book of Job. And I hope that all of these many things have lit your light and that you are encouraged by the things that we have read.
00:17:34
Speaker
And it maybe you would ah think of somebody that would benefit from hearing this event. So I hope that you have a fantastic rest of your day and that you have clicked that light button that looks like a thumbs up or a heart and that you are helping to spread the word about reading God's word so that other people too will know that we belong to God and we are he has set us up to be successful.
00:18:03
Speaker
He knows that he will only give us what we can actually go through. So thank you for joining me today, and I will see you or be here for you to listen to again tomorrow.
