Speaker
We love it much Keepers Where talk about it all From superheroes wrestlers We stand tall, Grant Kevin The dynamic inside Keepers
00:01:25
Speaker
yes Hey, on? happy Friday 13th. One of my favorite holidays right up there with Flag Day. How are we doing? Flag Day is pretty close too, isn't it? Isn't it tomorrow? Yeah, it's coming out promptly.
00:01:38
Speaker
Welcome, everyone. Doing good. Before we get into it, I know I've got something in the mail. Okay. Wait for nice. Nice.
00:01:50
Speaker
My father told me he had a package that was not from Amazon, and I said, what did I order now? And apparently, that was it. Nice. So, I had my first figure. I got the the one with him in the fortress coming sometime. I think it comess out like the week after the movie or something.
00:02:03
Speaker
Okay. Plus, a terrific and a metamorpho coming, so. yes Nice, nice, nice, nice.

Superman: Anticipation and Releases

00:02:08
Speaker
ah Got a lot to talk about this week. Mostly Superman. but What's hot? Coffee, sorry. Go on. Oh, mostly Superman-centric because we are less than a month away, officially, from the movie of the year, probably. We'll see.
00:02:26
Speaker
I fucking hope so. I hope so, too. I will be crushed if this movie is not good. Because holy shit, that trailer, which we will talk about in a bit, I'm sure. Yeah, we'll talk about it end. me, brother.
00:02:38
Speaker
That's the last thing we're going to talk about today, so we'll tease you. Yeah. Put the tip in. Let's go.

Apple's Controversial Updates: Hit or Miss?

00:02:44
Speaker
This week on Monday, Apple announced an abysmal software update.
00:02:51
Speaker
that is getting torn apart by media, by everyone who loves Apple, who liked Apple. Um, everybody, every critic of Apple pretty much, it's like the Snyder first of the electronics world. Um, I don't know about that.
00:03:04
Speaker
Well, yeah, it's not that extreme, but, um, starting next year going forward, it's not going to be iOS 18, iOS They're going by years so next year's updates could be iOS 26 going through the year and that next year's number and then every iOS is gonna have the same exact number from the watch to the iPad to the Mac everything um and there were a few updates we're gonna talk about um The design has been redesigned the the icons are gonna look different when you see it they're gonna be more
00:03:37
Speaker
More rounded. um and It's going to have better cross-platform integration, which is every year it gets better and better. In other words, the iPad is becoming more and more like the Mac, um and this year is no different.
00:03:51
Speaker
um First, let's talk about this new liquid glass style that they have. This is what they're calling it. um you know you have dark mode you know you have light mode now they're having this clear mode it's going to be kind of it's going to be working through the tint of the background and stuff it looks dumb you can't see the icons on there that looks fucking stupid yeah i'm gonna like podcast i forgot to check before we started tonight can i swear because i might have to we're 178 episodes in if we swear um
00:04:21
Speaker
But yeah, it looks dumb. A lot of people are complaining about it, but it tends to the right environment, um and it's going to be in addition to the light mode and dark mode that we already have now. so um They redesigned the actual phone app for the first time in years to this weird-looking thing where you have all your yeah have all your normal, everyday people on the top, kind of like your messages you have now.
00:04:44
Speaker
um And then you have all the phone calls on the bottom like that. and it just looks weird. And it also takes, i believe I believe it also does your text messages too. I'm not really sure on that. I can't remember. but um Messages, backgrounds, something that's been in iOS and it's even in FaceTime. can put backgrounds in your iMessage now.
00:05:04
Speaker
um And live translation, which is kind of cool if you're if you're in another country and you want to talk to somebody, um whether it be through text message, whether it be through phone call, it does a live trend ah live translation in real time.
00:05:20
Speaker
to whoever you're talking to, especially with the FaceTime app. you're talking to somebody on FaceTime, it'll show a writing of what you're saying in English translated to whoever you're talking to on the other end so they can read it in their language, which is kind of cool, kind of innovative. I'm sure it's not something that they've innovated through Apple. It's probably been something that's been done through a like Android or Google, whoever, whoever but...
00:05:43
Speaker
um There's going to be built-in order tracking in the wallet app. They've already started doing this, but this time it's going to be going through all the emails that you get in your mail app. um and It'll track all of your orders, tell you when it's been delivered, or when what day it's going to be delivered. You'll get a notification your out your your order's out for delivery, which is kind of cool.
00:06:02
Speaker
um And car play. For the first time ever, if you have car play, you can actually watch videos in the car while it's parked. The first time Apple has allowed this because of obvious reasons, watching videos while driving is kind of dangerous.
00:06:19
Speaker
but wallace power But while it's parked, CarPlay is going to open up and you'll be able to watch YouTube or whatever videos while you're parked and watching it. The minute you hit drive, it'll shut off and of course go to the the user user interface you're used to seeing in the car.
00:06:35
Speaker
um And finally, like I mentioned, iPadOS is becoming more and more like the MacOS. And to the point where they're adding windows. And menu bars and a pointer to the iPad OS for the first time. The Windows is going to be multitasking, taking to the extreme where you can do multiple things at once.
00:06:54
Speaker
This is something that should have been done a while ago. I understand why. You need to have the computing power to do that. The iPad is getting more and more powerful. So now it's to the point where they can do the multitasking, which is really cool. But overall, that's it. There wasn't really a big, huge innovation like Steve Jobs used to do 10, 15 years ago, 15 years ago now.
00:07:13
Speaker
um they haven't really had those moments in a lot of time. And that's been the the criticism of Apple over the last decade or so.

Horror and Predator: Movie Reviews

00:07:21
Speaker
Where is all the innovation? What's going on?
00:07:24
Speaker
But yeah, we're both Apple guys. We know a lot of people are on the ah the half, half the audience are on the other end, the ah opposite end on the Android, some Google. But yeah, that's Apple for you. um What watched this week.
00:07:41
Speaker
Kevin watched a movie I've been hearing about all week, Clowns in a Cornfield. This film was an hour and a half of pure campy joy.
00:07:54
Speaker
This is the type of movie, because I know you're not into horror movies like I am, obviously, because not many people are psychotic like I am. This is the type movie I would definitely recommend to you. It's very similar to like i Thanksgiving, that type of campy horror movie.
00:08:09
Speaker
Couple things I want to mention though, um, is so it's about basically this like group of teenagers who make these YouTube videos about this alleged clown that like whatever town, like, or whatever town, whatever.
00:08:26
Speaker
Um, so they make these YouTube videos and they put them online, whatever. So obviously they get fucking killed one by one by clowns. They're dressed up like the clowns they portray in the YouTube videos.
00:08:37
Speaker
Um, But there's a couple of things i just want to mention because I feel like we're going to cover this in October. We're going on the October list because I want you to watch this movie. um There's a scene where they're running away from the clown and they go into a house and everyone of the house is dead.
00:08:51
Speaker
Clowns kill them. And they go to dial 911 and there's a rotary phone. And of course, kids these days, if they saw a rotary phone, they did exactly they did exactly what they would in that movie. They go, how the fuck does this work?
00:09:02
Speaker
As they're being chased by a killer clown in the house. Wow, that's cool. Trying to dial out of a rotary phone. Nice. Two characters in this film find true love. Aw, it's so nice.
00:09:14
Speaker
And also, another thing is as they're trying to drive away from the clowns, none of the kids know how to drive stick shift because it's 2025. So there's just a couple gags I wanted to bring up that are pretty funny.
00:09:25
Speaker
Overall, I really enjoyed this film. uh took a little bit to get going but um yeah it's definitely it's just a fun hour and a half um it's out there now it's been getting a lot of coverage since it got released there was a lot of yeah um like the last month or so before it came out um definitely recommend and we'll probably be talking about it in depth in october okay cool we'll do that um um A movie came out. We talk about brand new movie. came out Hulu.
00:09:53
Speaker
um And the movie before it came out on huli Hulu as well. Same director. But this is animated. Yeah, same director. um Called Predator, Killer of Killers. Going into this, we knew it was animated.
00:10:06
Speaker
We knew it was in the Predator universe. But we didn't really realize the extent of what this movie was until we watched it. um And I thought it was great. four ah it No, it wasn't an episode. It was a movie. That's what that's kind of what we got confused going into. and we thought it was an anthology. It would be episodes.
00:10:24
Speaker
Yeah, we didn't know if it was going to be three or four episodes or if was movie because we're idiots and didn't look into that. Right, but it was a movie, and it was played in four parts. The first part was set 841 AD the Vikings' time.
00:10:39
Speaker
the vikings time um And it's about the shield, about fighting with the shield, fighting with the fighting with Vikings, with axes and however used to they used to fight back in the day.
00:10:50
Speaker
um And then you meet there their warrior, this woman. Who's strong. She's right in the middle of the poster there if you're on YouTube. If you see the poster. She's strong. she's she has a She has a son that... I don't want to give too much spoilers about it. But she's a warrior.
00:11:07
Speaker
um And at the very end you realize she's been kidnapped by the Predators. And then we'll get to the next part. The sword. Set in Japan. 1609, Around 1629. there when they were kids and when they were a little older.
00:11:20
Speaker
um And that's all about samurais and the Predator. Fighting the Predator. um And you meet us see meet these samurai brothers and they tell their story and at the end one of them survives.
00:11:31
Speaker
And he also gets abducted by the Predators. And then you get to the next timeline, which is 1941-1942. First you're in Florida, then you're in World War two And there are fighter pilots, or this one kid. um And he also is going up one-on-one against a Predator, this time in the sky with war planes.
00:11:50
Speaker
um He beats this Predator, and he also gets abducted by Predators. And that brings us to the fourth act of this movie. The fourth act is all of these people that have been taken from their timeline and brought into this predator war land, war place where all the predators, badlands.
00:12:10
Speaker
Yeah, maybe. And they're all fighting each other. They're all, they're all seeing who's the killer of killers. Who is the top of the, all of these predator people who killed the predator pretty much.
00:12:21
Speaker
Um, and it opens up a whole other aspect of this movie that we did not expect. Um, especially towards the end where there's a couple of survivors. There's probably three. I think i think we'll probably get a sequel to this and in some way, shape, or form. but um they At the very end, there's like this mid-credits, after-credits type of scene where they go onto into this ah cro or this frozen or people get frozen um and they go on there And they're walking through the halls and you see all these people, all what you're guessing are warriors from the past that have beat predators, cryogenically frozen.
00:12:59
Speaker
They zoom into one of them, and it's a familiar face. andber miss the girl It's the girl from Prey, from the movie Prey that came out, what, two years ago? um And she's been cry she's been captured as well, cryogenically frozen. um And there's probably thousands of people in this ship, and speculation is, could Arnold Schwarzenegger's character from Predator 1 be there?
00:13:22
Speaker
Could Danny Glover be there? Like, there's so many so many options. I mean... arnold Arnold kind of looks like he's already ch cryogenically frozen in real life right now, so why not? Right.
00:13:33
Speaker
um But it opens up the whole entire Predator universe, which to me, number one, i think this is probably one of my favorite Predator movies, and I actually can vouch for that now because I've seen them all this week. We're going talk about it in a minute.
00:13:47
Speaker
um But it opens up for so much. It opens up, is there a sequel to this? What is Badlands in October going to look like? um We kind of maybe have a picture of what that could look like.
00:13:59
Speaker
Prey 2, we know it's happening. This kind of sets that up. or Is this going to be a continuation? Is this show going to continue into that? Who knows? um And like I mentioned, is are it are the character art characters who are warriors in past movies going to show up in a sequel? Maybe animated, maybe a live action of this?
00:14:15
Speaker
Making an endgame like Predator universe would be kind of crazy. But because I watched this, i did something that I had been wanting to do for a while. I watched Predator 2, Predators, and The Predators.
00:14:30
Speaker
um I know you've seen all of these. um We watched Predator a while ago, and that's a fantastic fucking movie. That's one of my favorite movies of all time. Yeah, it's's it's incredible. i mean That's one of those movies that like people always say, like if you can go back and watch a movie the first time, like that Shawshank, Goodfellas, and Fight Club would be like my fucking Mount Rushmore if I could go back and experience it the first time again.
00:14:53
Speaker
So let's go into these movies a little bit one by one because it's fucking crazy. ah Predator 2 came out in 1990, like three years after the first one, but it's set in 1997. So you're already going into a futuristic dystopian world in l L.A. at the time where they where this is. And I saw it for the first time in 1997.
00:15:14
Speaker
Okay. um It's all during a race riot going out throughout whole entire city of L.A. Danny Glover, right after Lethal Weapon, is a cop.
00:15:26
Speaker
I'm getting told this shit. i' I was hoping he would save it, of course, as a lethal weapon line, but you just hoped he would every time you see as a cop. Bill Paxton's in this. This is right after Aliens, so, I mean, he's he's huge at the time, becoming more and more popular.
00:15:43
Speaker
Gary Busey, I'm guessing this has to be right before his accident. Maybe he got... I'm almost thinking he got in the accident during filming of this movie. What was his accident? it was a car It was a motorcycle accident, I think, or a car accident. yeah okay And he got a little loopy after that.
00:15:58
Speaker
A little but yeah little? A lot of loopy. He got get a lot of loopy. um And the Predator is in the hunt during these race riots in L.A. And it's just the most campy thing you could ever see.
00:16:12
Speaker
Yeah. but there are But there are connections to that to this new movie and Prey. I did not expect all these connections be involved. I think you may even talked about it when we watched Prey, but now that I've seen them, I understand them. Yeah.
00:16:25
Speaker
Yep. At the end of Predator 2, Danny Glover defeats the Predator, and he's given a prize by a bunch of other Predators, a bunch of these, I don't remember what their name of their species are, but it's this gun, which is shown up in not only this movie, the end of Predator 2, but it showed up in Prey, the Indian girl, she uses this to kill the Predator at the end.
00:16:47
Speaker
um And it also shows up in Killers of Killers. It's one of the weapons that one of the people in the arena are given to fight the at the end. um And I have a picture all three of them there.
00:16:59
Speaker
um Kind of interesting. that The gun is from 1915, and it's engraved with a name on there. al Rafael Adelini. I don't know how to say it. but um But yeah, kind of interesting.
00:17:09
Speaker
Easter egg. And that's not the only one. Going into Predators, this came out in 2010. um I don't remember who directed this, but this is out of all of them, except for the first one, this is probably the highest rated.
00:17:21
Speaker
The first one's higher higher rated. but Adrian Brody. Machete is in this. Mahershala Ali, before he was Mahershala. Household name. ah Topher Grace.
00:17:33
Speaker
walter goggins Walter Goggins. And a cameo by Lawrence Fishburne. They're on a on a planet somewhere. out in the galaxy, who knows where they are, and they all intervene onto this planet, um and they all, at the beginning of the episode, at the beginning of the movie, they're all brought down in, like, from the sky, with parachutes, and they all land all over this planet, and um and they're trying to survive, and they realize they're being hunted.
00:18:01
Speaker
ah They're kind of like on this planet as ah as as game, um and at the end, you find out there's more and more happening here, um there's more predators, um and there's And they bring in this samurai sword in this movie, which also shows up in the new animated series.
00:18:19
Speaker
yeah um the The character who's this ah ah triad gangster, we're not really sure who he is in this movie, ends up getting this samurai sword that looks very very much alike the one that's in Killer of Killers, the samurai uses.
00:18:34
Speaker
um That was an okay movie. I liked that. That was okay. then came out Then came The Predator. This was 2018, not too long ago, but it brought out brought on a lot of stars of the time that just became famous. Wasn't this the one directed by Shane Black? Shane Black. wrote Did he write Lethal Weapon, and he was also in the first part of their movie?
00:18:58
Speaker
Yep. yeah he wast yeah you're You're absolutely right. um Boyd Holbrook. He had just starred in Logan the year before. He just became ah he just became famous. Keegan-Michael Key, Key and Peele.
00:19:11
Speaker
um The comedic relief of this movie. ah Thomas Jane. ah Surprised to see him in this, especially because his role is kind of not that big. um Olivia Munn, Alfie Allen, who's in Game of Thrones. yeah yeah yeah Theon.
00:19:27
Speaker
um Sterling K. Brown, kind of play this absent eccentric kind of leader of the army or whoever brass is playing. Jake Busey, the son of Gary Busey, playing the son of a character that was in Predators 2. It wasn't said in the movie, but um it was known that that's who that was. Right, right. um Yvonne Strahovski, who is in Chuck and also is in Dexter.
00:19:52
Speaker
Who's in Dexter? She's a Dexter's girlfriend. I think the last one. The one that's in Chuck. Oh, okay. Okay, yeah yeah gotcha, gotcha. But she was in this as well. um This is actually, out of all the movies, this is probably the funniest movie of them all.
00:20:09
Speaker
I saw this movie once and haven't felt like I needed to ever revisit it. No, I definitely no definitely don't need to watch it again. Definitely glad I watched it, but definitely don't want revisit it. But it's funny to see all these connections to what they're doing with the Predator universe now.
00:20:22
Speaker
um They're Disney-fying it, of course. But, um yeah, we'll have to wait and see what happens with Predator Badlands in October. But I'm excited for it. did look The trailer looked really good, all the promos for it. And that movie is set off-world as well, so we're wondering if it's continuation of the animated movie or what. Yep. Yeah, we'll find out.
00:20:41
Speaker
looks good. um Watched another documentary. i don't know if you had a chance to watch it or not. but No. Titan, The Ocean Gate Disaster. It's fantastic. On Netflix right now. It's a two-hour movie, so it's it's it's a lot. but um It talks out all about what happened and why this submarine imploded in the ocean.
00:21:01
Speaker
um And the guy who, which we are wish all

The Accountant and Superman Returns: In-depth Analyses

00:21:03
Speaker
knew, it was it was a media storm a couple years ago, but... The guy who created this sub was a nutjob. um He was eccentric, very much thought he was on the line of Elon Musk and Steve Jobs as far as innovating sea travel, but he was doing it kind of on the cheap.
00:21:21
Speaker
Which is exactly what you want to do when you're trying to fucking go down that far. When you're going four miles under the ocean to see the Titanic. You want to do it as cheap as possible. yeah cause i mean God forbid you spend so much money that you don't die.
00:21:36
Speaker
But yeah, it's it's ah if if you're if you're sketchy about the ocean like I am, it's a very tough watch. ah The ocean is a scary fuck. It's scarier than and than space to me. I'm afraid of bass.
00:21:48
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, it's afraid afraid of water in general. and Unless I'm Aquaman. But it's it's a good movie. Very, very good. tellsel Tell the story about the background of everything that happened. Didn't really get into the aftermath of it too much.
00:22:00
Speaker
um That was all over the note news. Everybody knew what happened when they found it. um But this guy was a nut job. Crazy, crazy guy. um he went for fiber glass And this carbon fiber.
00:22:13
Speaker
And it just, every time you go further and further, deeper, deeper into the ocean, you'd be down there and this popping and this cracking. You're like, well, is this sub safe? Well, sure enough, it wasn't. And it ended up imploding, but, um, kind of crazy. And everybody came out of the woodwork, of course, after the fact saying, yeah, this was dangerous. It should have been stopped. But, um, if you, if you're interested in that at all, I suggest that, um, did you have a chance to see this next movie, in the accountant to,
00:22:39
Speaker
Yeah, I watched that fucking whenever it came out. on what Was that two weeks ago I think it came out? I watched it when it came out, like that night. Yeah. I watched it yesterday. Very good. and I love this movie. i Basically, Ben Affleck's making his own Bourne trilogy series of movies with these movies. But, I mean, he and John Berthold play so well off each other. It's incredible. They do.
00:22:59
Speaker
They do. um I love John Bernthal. Every time I see him, I think, oh, yeah, that's the Punisher because he acts like that in every single thing. From The Walking Dead to this. um But this is a great movie. It just came out. It's on Amazon Prime if you want to watch it. So if you have Amazon Prime, it's free.
00:23:14
Speaker
um But it's very, very good. um And if you don't know his character, he's kind of an autistic, kind of a savant. The dating scene? The dating scene was fucking a riot.
00:23:26
Speaker
Yes. um Ben Affleck he has play that plays that character, and he also has this military kind of background where he works doing odd jobs for not not military, but military-like jobs for people as an and an assassin. and we so like clandestine operations, would that be the correct word, right? Where it's like off the radar, like you're not making credit, and if you you know get caught, you're fucked.
00:23:49
Speaker
Yeah, he's definitely he's definitely in hiding. He lives in a he lives in a camper out somewhere. Looks like the life. Very, very good movie. Four out of five for me. and I'm wondering this will continue. I hope it does. i Probably didn't do too well in the box office cause it was released right after. but it was good. Very, very good movie.
00:24:10
Speaker
Two of them, like you said, worked well together. so I'd love to see more of it. um We are less than a month away. And we've a big big time period to talk about the summer of Superman.
00:24:25
Speaker
Superman Returns. Say what you will about this movie. Oh, I'm going to say what I want. i know you are. Brandon Routh coming in. This is number one directed by Bryan Singer. He was hired in 2004. Right after, year after, two years after X-Men 2, X2 came out.
00:24:46
Speaker
um So this took him away from finishing his trilogy of X-Men 3, and we know where that went. um But he did he did direct this movie. He was part of the writing process as well. um And it was more of a paying homage to paying homage to Superman 1 and 2.
00:25:04
Speaker
And continuing that story a spiritual kind of way. um To the point where he brought in not only John Williams' theme, recycled and tweaked by John Ottman, but he also continued five years after what would happen in Superman 2.
00:25:24
Speaker
um Not the Donner cut, but the probably the one that was released, I'm guessing. This is the first promo shot. This is the first promo shot that they released of the Superman suit reminiscent. I mean, you're thinking of this one when they first released the Cavill picture of him in the safe.
00:25:39
Speaker
um and the picture of or Corn Sweat sitting in the in the suit putting his boots on. um These are the three three most recent New Superman costumes that have been debuted. but This is Brandon Routh, unknown at the time, coming in, um playing Clark Kent and Superman.
00:25:56
Speaker
Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane. I don't remember what else she had been in before this. I'm guessing one of those CW shows. I'm not really sure. um And playing the role of Lex Luthor Kevin Spacey.
00:26:10
Speaker
Who, I gotta say, did an okay job in this movie. but I enjoyed his Lex. yeah Yeah, I did too. um And rounding out the cast, Frank Langella as Perry White, Sam Huntington as Jimmy Olsen. The only movie I know him in was Jungle to Jungle in the 90s with Tim Allen.
00:26:27
Speaker
Was he in that movie where the kids went to go to the Kiss concert? Yes, and he was in that too. yeah okay With Edward Furlong. yep yes ah okay Parker Posey is a character named Kitty. He was based off of Miss Tessmocker.
00:26:40
Speaker
um Cal Penn, right after Harold and Kumar, coming in as playing one of Lex Luthor's henchmen. you know um And James Marston, who was of course Cyclops in the X-Men movies, coming in to play Lois Lane's new boyfriend, Richard White, who is the nephew of Perry White.
00:26:56
Speaker
um And newcomer Tristan Lake LeBeau as Jason White, his son and Lois Lane's son? Question mark. We'll get into that in a minute. it But this is ah this is him meeting Clark Kent when Clark comes back.
00:27:11
Speaker
um And this is the whole entire cast when they showed up at the premiere. As you can see there, Sam Huntington, Kevin Spacey. um Marlon Brando. appears in this movie using footage they just did at this time had just done the Richard Donner cut.
00:27:27
Speaker
um And they rescued some footage during the making of that and they used it some archival CGI enhanced footage in this movie of Kevin Spacey going into the Fortress of Solitude and meeting this AI version of Marlon Brando's Jor-El.
00:27:41
Speaker
um Singer explained, we had access to all the Brando footage that was shot. There was unused footage that had Brando reciting poems, trailing off subject, and smelling swearing like a sailor.
00:27:52
Speaker
I want to see that. Give me all of that. Release the Brando cut. Release the Brando cut. The two-hour Brando cut, please. Just Jor-El. Just Jor-El. Just Jor-El. Just Jor-El. Just Jor-El. Just Jor-El is Jor-El just swearing his ass off.
00:28:07
Speaker
um And there were some cameos. We talked about this when we were talking about Superman back when we first started. But Jack Lawson, who played Jimmy Olsen in The Adventures of Superman in the 1950s, played Bo the bartender.
00:28:19
Speaker
um And Noelle Neal, she played the woman at the beginning of the movie who was the elderly wife, Gertrude, ah that Lex Luthor steals the estate from and the yacht from.
00:28:29
Speaker
That was her. She was Lois Lane in the serials. um This is the first Superman movie in almost 20 years, so it's the first one to really take advantage of CGI and embrace it, computer generated imagery.
00:28:43
Speaker
And I think for the most part, that was the biggest praise of this movie, that the CGI wasn't too bad. um and And this is at the time, mid-2000s. um We're kind of getting better and better as time goes on. but um And like I mentioned, it's a semi-sequel to Superman 2.
00:29:01
Speaker
Ignore Superman 3, Supergirl, Superman 4, the quest for peace completely. Set five years after Superman goes missing on Earth. And returns. Dun, dun, dun. In the beginning scroll of the movie, the scroll says, On the doomed planet Krypton, a wise scientist placed his infant son in a spacecraft, launched him earth to Earth. We all know that story.
00:29:22
Speaker
um Raised by a kind farmer and his wife, the boy grew up to become our greatest protector, Superman. when an at When astronomers discovered the distant remains of his homeworld, Superman disappears. So this is set five years after that.
00:29:36
Speaker
Superman comes back. There's a huge deleted sequence of this movie. um I forgot about until I was doing research this week. but this is This is kind of it. Superman is on Krypton looking at the remnants of of pieces of asteroid and pieces of the planet out and out in space.
00:29:54
Speaker
trying to find remnants of his family seeing if there's any survivors he doesn't find anybody um but you can see all the kryptonite on there which doesn't make sense because there's no yellow sun um but he's flying in the spacecraft over the planet krypton or the what remains of it um he's wearing this cool looking gray kind of inspired by black suit superman suit flying through pieces of space rock flying through the planet the planet's kind of hitting him like asteroids he's trying to escape and he does escape And Crash lands five years later back on Earth right in Kansas, right where he landed when he was a baby, found by his mother.
00:30:30
Speaker
um We meet Lois Lane in The Daily Planet. We meet Perry White. We meet Jimmy Olsen. Lois Lane, in the first set of movies, writes a story about how the world needs Superman while Superman was gone. She writes a story about, and it's a Pulitzer Prize winning story, about how the world doesn't need Superman anymore.
00:30:51
Speaker
um And she's kind of given up hope because he's been gone for so long. Find out more about that in a minute. But then Superman returns and he saves he saves the world because Lois Lane's on an airplane that's holding a space shuttle and they're launching it because they don't want they want to try to make space travel easier, I guess. Who fucking knows?
00:31:10
Speaker
And it goes awry. um There's an EMP that goes off, sets up all the electronics, and everything fails. Space shuttle, Superman has to lift the space shuttle into space, which I thought was kind of a cool shot.
00:31:22
Speaker
It's right there. um And the airplane starts to go nosedive onto Earth. And Superman, of course, goes to the nose of the plane and saves it right before it hits a baseball field. um And Lois Lane's on the plane. So he meets Lois for the first time in five years, saying we'll catch up soon.
00:31:39
Speaker
And they do. he comes back as Clark to the Daily Planet, gets his job back. This is them in front of it. um This is what probably my favorite shot of the movie is this right here, where he's being shot up with the a machine gun.
00:31:50
Speaker
Yep, hits his eye. The bullet. Hits his eye. Yep. And then bounces off and flattens. I thought that was a really cool scene in the movie. um And we got Lex holding Lois and her son hostage.
00:32:02
Speaker
Find out more about her son in a minute. um And then the whole entire sequence happens where the world is being destroyed by Lex Luthor. He's trying to create, of course, the first movie is he's trying to take over the world, trying to make Lex, lex I can't remember he called it, Otisville was one of them, Otis isn't in this movie, um but he's trying to make his own island, trying to trying to make his own kryptonite island, pretty much.
00:32:27
Speaker
um He's taking this piece of the Fortress of Solitude Crystal and some kryptonite and making this big huge island to take over the Atlantic Ocean and eventually take over the whole entire United States. but um The Daily Planet Globe falls and Superman catches it, lands back down on the on the street level and and puts it down on top of a cop on a cab.
00:32:46
Speaker
I thought that scene was pretty cool. um saves Lois saves her boyfriend and the son from a sink from a sinking ship the the yacht that ends up falling saves them this is them embracing about to kiss she pulls away it's a whole story um and Lex Luthor stabs Superman with kryptonite this is where things get a little crazy in this movie Kryptonite has kind of played off is is it is it strong?
00:33:18
Speaker
Can it kill Superman? is it supposed to take away his powers? And how can he lift a whole entire island of Kryptonite into space and still have all of his full strength? This is where it gets choppy.
00:33:30
Speaker
A lot of people complain about this because for rifleful rightful reasons, he's got Kryptonite right next to him, and yet he'd still be able to fly lifting this thing that probably weighs kilotons out into space to save the world.
00:33:43
Speaker
um And it does it does end up taking him out, but he shouldn't even have the strength to lift it. That's a big controversy to this movie, but... I didn't mind him you're if If you're looking literally literally at it, maybe maybe the kryptonite's not as strong because it's homegrown kryptonite. It's not made from the planet Kryptonite. As somebody who has maybe once or twice dabbled in things that are homegrown, typically that's stronger.
00:34:10
Speaker
Okay, so we'll take that. Although Kryptonite, who knows? Right. But yeah, I'm guessing because it's not actual Kryptonite, that is actually like a logical explanation as to why it wouldn't be as strong because it's yeah it's manufactured in a a plant, basically.
00:34:27
Speaker
yeah ah The big spoiler for this movie is Lois Lane's son is Superman's son.
00:34:37
Speaker
Couldn't see that coming. He ends up throwing a piano at one of Lux Luthor's henchmen. um He has asthma, but then he throws away his his inhaler. Like, oh yeah, I've got superpowers now. I'm Superman.
00:34:50
Speaker
Which isn't he too young for that shit to come into play? like just' like Yeah. like she the whole thing is like puberty. Yeah, puberty. Although, he gets the car. Smallville, I don't know.
00:35:01
Speaker
He could lift a car in Superman 1, and he was a baby. True. so Yeah, you're right. You're right. yeah So the strength might be it might be the other stuff, like the heat vision. Shout out Smallville. Go to last week's episode. He gets a heart on, and all of a sudden it has heat vision.
00:35:16
Speaker
Oh, yeah. We have some heat vision talk later. I want re-watch that show. Yeah, we got some good heat fishing talk later. Holy shit. oh um But final scene reminiscent of Christopher Reeves flying over the Earth in the end of Superman 1 and 2. Very cool scene.
00:35:32
Speaker
um Overall, great movie. Bryan Singer convinced our Warner Brothers not to experiment with test screenings in this. um He removed 15 minutes of footage um after showing it to some of his trusted associates.
00:35:44
Speaker
quote unquote um It was released on June 28th of 2006, the first IMAX 3D film ever released. million dollars budget made million dollars in the box office worldwide,
00:35:59
Speaker
two hundred and million of that in north america There was a sequel planned. It got canceled. um ah It was set for 2009. um When the box office returns, what weren't what Warner Brothers hoped.
00:36:13
Speaker
They canceled the second movie. um They were hoping for around the $500 million dollars mark, so they're off by $100 million. um This has been highly protested, especially by Bryan Singer. So we made $400 million fucking dollars. What more do you want?
00:36:26
Speaker
But they wanted more. They wanted at least $500 million. They wanted another $100 million. um And the whole thing about the planned sequel is they just wanted to reintroduce Superman with this movie. And the planned sequel was going to have a lot more... was going way more action-focused from what I've been told. yeah and want feature It would have featured Kryptonians coming in.
00:36:45
Speaker
It would have featured Brainiac, Bizarro as some of the main villains. New Krypton, Landmass Floating in Space would have played a huge part as a plot device. Whether it be Crashing on Earth or whether it be a new Krypton, who knows. but yeah um Ralph later reprised his role. i think we're to talk about in a couple weeks because i did find the Crisis on Infinite Earths we're going watch. but He reprised his role in 2019's Arrowverse Crossover crisis Crisis on Infinite Earths.
00:37:12
Speaker
um He played a version of himself later on, a darker version of Superman. He kind of a failed Superman. He's fucking awesome in the Crisis stuff from what I've seen. i haven't watched the entire thing because it was like jumping between shows. yeah So it was tough to watch, like find them all on Netflix or whatever. But from everything I've seen, he's fantastic.
00:37:30
Speaker
Yeah, I was able to find a supercut of all five put together, which is awesome. It's on it's on our Plex. But, um yeah, it's an okay movie. Not bad. Better than three. Better than Supergirl. Better than four.
00:37:43
Speaker
My notes real quick. Yeah, go ahead. Yes. Better than three, four Supergirl. and maybe two Maybe two before the Donner cut.
00:37:54
Speaker
Okay, so the best thing this movie did for me is is the reason why we ended up with the Donner Cut, because that's how they got all that footage to resurface, is they were looking at it for the Jor-El. yeah Now, my issues with this movie is it's basically 40-ish minutes before we see Superman outside when crash lands back on Earth.
00:38:12
Speaker
Yeah. um I do not really like how his superhero or his super hearing is like depicted. Like, i guess it's okay, but like, it's like that, like muffled, like distorted, like, I wish he could just like, like squint. then all of a sudden, like, you could like hear what what they were saying through his point of view.
00:38:31
Speaker
yeah Um, This might be the worst Lois Lane. It's definitely the worst relationship between the two. You don't have any chemistry between the two of them. Either did Amy Adams and Henry Calvo, which is a real problem because Amy Adams is a fucking fantastic actress. Yeah. um She's leagues above Kate Bosworth, in my opinion, as far as being an actress.
00:38:53
Speaker
Yeah. um His Clark is my second favorite behind Tyler from Superman and Lois. Okay. Um... No S on the cape? Maybe it's because I'm so infatuated with the S on the new cape that it just kind of... don't know. It rubs me the wrong... I love the S on the back of the cape. I love the cape with the S. yeah That wasn't the only problem I had with the cape. The cape looked rubber.
00:39:16
Speaker
It was made out of rubber in this movie. That too. um And one thing I really loved about this is in the Superman Lois flying scene, um this movie makes you feel the fact that Superman can hear literally every person crying for help, yeah which I fucking, I love that shit. Like that, like just gave me like a good feeling and inside.
00:39:37
Speaker
um The password scene breaking into Lois's computer was fucking cringe. Cringe as fuck. um He's being cucked by Superman. Yeah. Lois like risking her family towards the end.
00:39:50
Speaker
like She should have kept her son and Scott Summers at bay and just like left them somewhere and then done her thing. Because that's the very lowest thing to do, but I don't think she bring like her five-year-old son, even though i she knows that's Superman's son, I'm guessing, whatever. yeah um But there was just a couple of things as I was watching this movie that I wanted to write notes on.
00:40:09
Speaker
Overall, don't really care for this movie. um But it's... in I like it way less than Man of Steel. I don't know.
00:40:20
Speaker
It's just, I cannot wait to get to Man of Steel because I will bring up every issue and every love I have about that when do we get to it. Um... So, yeah, I mean, overall, this movie's kind of a chore to sit through, which I feel like shouldn't be the case in Superman film, like, ever.
00:40:35
Speaker
um But it is what it is. I mean, it's probably like a three, three and a half for me. um But we got the daughter cut out of it, so that's cool. Oh, yeah, and the ah the maroon. I fucking hate the maroon.
00:40:48
Speaker
Yeah, it's bad. I fucking, if I didn't bring it up already, I just gotta to go back to the fact that I fucking hate the maroon. Ah. Yeah, not not a great movie, but it's a step in what we would get for Man of Steel.
00:41:00
Speaker
Pretty much as mid as possible. like it's but It's just there. it's like It's got some really cool scenes, but it's also kind of boring. Yeah, it didn't really bring the franchise anywhere, and that's the problem.
00:41:12
Speaker
It didn't really go forward anywhere. kind of stayed right where it was. Yes, um And that's, we wouldn't like I mentioned, we wouldn't have gotten Man of Steel without this movie. Right. Because they wanted to so pivot and make something totally different. Out of out of the John Williams realm, out of the Donner realm, they wanted to make something totally different, which they did with Snyder.
00:41:29
Speaker
And we'll have opinions on that next week when talk about Man of Steel. um Yes, we will. So, we are not only ah month away from Superman, we're a month and a half away from Fantastic Four.
00:41:40
Speaker
um We got two movies to talk about. This month we're going to talk about The Rise of the Silver Surfer. um This came out in 2006? I haven't written it down, I forgot. Yeah, um I believe 2006. But Silver Surfer, big huge character in the comic books, debuted in the 60s. The Herald of Galactus, we talked about that a few months ago.
00:42:00
Speaker
um And voiced by Lawrence Fishburne. Doug Jones, who does all the, in the 90s, 2000s, did the mocap for a lot of characters, did the the costumes for a lot of characters.
00:42:12
Speaker
He did Abe Sapien in Hellboy. um He played he played the the zombie, I can't remember his name, in Hocus Pocus. with the That is Mouth Zipped Shut. I can't remember his name in that.
00:42:23
Speaker
um but He's a tall, laank lanky guy, so he had the suit on for for the for rise for the Silver Surfer. um He did the makeup and prosthetics. um In this movie, Stan Lee cameos as himself.
00:42:37
Speaker
One of the only times he ever cameoed himself except for...
00:42:41
Speaker
all right I know if you were waiting for me to say that or not. I was. But yeah yeah, he tries to get into the wedding of Reed and Sue. um Gets denied at the entrance and gets turned around and escorted out.
00:42:55
Speaker
um And the first wedding goes off... Horribly. Actually doesn't even get finished. um The wedding gets wening fails right right immediately because the Silver Surfer shows up. um And wrecks havoc. And Johnny Storm has to go chase him through New York City and then Washington, D.C. And they end up in this field and Silver Surfer just grabs him by the throat and starts choking him.
00:43:18
Speaker
um Brings him up into space. Reminiscent of what we're going to see in the new one in the trailer. What we've seen with Joseph Quinn going up into space, following the Silver Surfer and falling back down, extinguishing his flame. but um Then we meet Sue, meets him as well. This is Doug Jones um in prosthetics filming. This is behind-the-scenes shot of ah the two of them, Jessica Alba.
00:43:45
Speaker
um In this movie, it's kind of a weird time because Sony owns Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and X-Men are over here at Fox.
00:43:56
Speaker
um So they can't use a lot. Like, they can't use the Super Skrulls. So they do a weird thing in this movie where because Johnny Storm touches the Silver Surfer, he gets this cosmic power.
00:44:07
Speaker
that makes it so he can switch between all the other fantastic four members in this movie um and one of the first times he does it he touches the thing and they switch places michael chiklis comes back to his normal self but now he's the flame guy um also touches invisible woman at one point becomes invisible and she becomes uh the fire person.
00:44:27
Speaker
um And Doctor Doom has regrouped in Latveria. That's Latveria. That's the only time you hear about it again in this movie. um And he's healed by touching the Silver Surfer. The Silver Surfer blasts him with cosmic radiation um and he's healed and he gets all of his skin back because in the end of the first one it's all burned off of him. Silver Surfer is captured. becomes kind of like this metal alloy looking not as shiny.
00:44:51
Speaker
um He's captured. to Talking about talking about being the herald of Galactus and that he's coming. Um, and why he, he's in the exact quote in this movie is my service spares my world and the one I love who we're going to be seeing in the next, um, shallow ball. They didn't get into too much about that. It did say his name was Norm Rad, but, um, besides that, didn't get too much.
00:45:16
Speaker
um And he's captured by the U.S. government. um And Doctor Doom gets his powers back and steals the surfboard. And becomes kind of a Doctor Doom slash Silver Surfer hybrid character. Very, very weird. That's not even the weirdest thing about this movie.
00:45:31
Speaker
We do see the fantastic car. They bring that in in this movie. Reed Richards develops that. And then... we get the super scroll johnny touches all the members of the fantastic four gets all of their powers all at once and this is the only way they can get away with having a super scroll power at the time and and fox who's owned by marvel weird weird weird shit at the time um and that's what we get right there fighting dr doom at the end but the biggest problem about this movie which is being talked about 20 years later is Galactus.
00:46:03
Speaker
That's what we see of Galactus in this movie, and that's it. We see a shadow going over Saturn. we see this weird cloud that looks like a sandworm, looks like an uncircumcised dick, um going over Earth with supposedly Galactus in the middle of it, and that's the fire shadow of him in the middle of this cloud that you see at the end of this movie. Very, very strange, still criticized to this to this day, um to the point where everybody's hoping, and was hoping, that Galactus would be retconned, and he was. We know that for sure going into this new movie this year, but
00:46:37
Speaker
um Definitely left a lot of bad taste in people's mouth 20 years ago when this movie came out. It sucked not having a real Galactus, but we did have a really cool-looking Silver Surfer at the time, which I thought was cool.
00:46:49
Speaker
um At the end, they get married finally. They are married in Japan. She's dressed as a whatever... And there is an after credits scene.
00:47:01
Speaker
um Silver Surfer defeats Galactus, explodes inside of him with his cosmic powers, I guess. I don't really know. But Silver s Surfer does survive and the surfboard um saves him.
00:47:13
Speaker
Setting up, I think, what they were hoping was going to be a spinoff of this or maybe a solo movie. I know that had been in development for a while up until Disney bought Fox. But um yeah, this was a movie.
00:47:25
Speaker
Not that good. Not that great. I think the best part was Silver Surfer, like I mentioned. At the time, CGI in middle 2000s was pretty decent for the time. um and looks I think the CGI in this looks better than what I've seen so far in the trailers for the new fan and Fantastic Four.
00:47:42
Speaker
i think it's weird that I think the Silver Surfer looks way better in this movie. um Yeah. So we'll see. um The issue now is the fact that um CGI workers, because it's literally in every movie, are just so overworked.
00:47:55
Speaker
at this point um so we'll see how that looks when it comes out hopefully i'll be able to catch it in theaters i assume i will i'll probably see that friday yeah we'll go friday for sure yeah yeah uh so yeah fantastic four next month we'll talk about fantastic four stick the fourth movie in a brand new brand new brand new team brought in about a decade ago a little less than a decade ago um miles teller michael b jordan right there you got two huge name people in the cast that movie is such an anomaly to me because it should have been really good it should have been yeah i think when i watched it about the halfway halfway point of that movie it turned into something ridiculous yes i actually liked it about halfway through like what the fuck is going on i really enjoyed the beginning i really enjoyed the first act of the movie
00:48:44
Speaker
um And we'll talk about a later. Don't want to get too far ahead of

Upcoming Movies and Shows: What to Expect

00:48:48
Speaker
ourselves. Yeah, we'll talk about it next month. Well, that being said, let's get into the news.
00:49:00
Speaker
And it's not a new segment. Let's trailer around it.
00:49:03
Speaker
First trailer for a movie called The Pickup. We talked about the poster while ago. Looks like something right out of 2000's Eddie Murphy. Sure enough, the trailer pretty much depicts it that. Eddie Murphy, Pete Davidson, Eva Longoria, Kiki Palmer. um Yeah, it comes out in August 6th if you want to watch it on Prime. It's free at least.
00:49:22
Speaker
um Directed by Tim Story. who We just talked about Fantastic Four. um So yeah, I'll have to wait and see on that. But the biggest trailer, biggest reveal of this week, which I'm going to talk poetically about for the next five minutes.
00:49:38
Speaker
Spaceballs! I watched Spaceballs before Star Wars. So that was my first love. um There was a scrawl that showed up on Spaceballs.
00:49:50
Speaker
Joss Gad's page. Joss Gad's writing this, starring in this. 38 years ago, there was only one Star Wars trilogy, but since then, there have been a prequel trilogy, a sequel trilogy, a sequel to the prequel, prequel to the sequel, countless countless TV spinoffs, a movie spinoff of the TV spinoff, which is both a prequel and a sequel, not to mention any listed Dune, they listed Harry Potter's, everything else has come out since then in 38 years.
00:50:16
Speaker
But in the end, 38 years later, there's only been one Spaceballs dot dot dot until now. Officially announcing Spaceballs 2, Mel Brooks comes on with a space shirt a sweatshirt that says Spaceballs, a sweatshirt, announcing that ah the movie's happening.
00:50:34
Speaker
ah Coming out in 2027, The Swartz Awakens. Not the official title, but... um Interesting. um Biggest problem I have with this movie is John Candy, of course, not coming back.
00:50:45
Speaker
My favorite part in the original movie. um Not sure if Josh Gad's going to play his son. Probably. That makes sense. But almost the whole entire cast is coming back for this movie. Bill Pullman's coming back.
00:51:00
Speaker
His son is joining the cast. and We fucking love Louis Pullman. What we've seen him in so far in his young career. Still waiting to Thunderbolts. I really want to watch that. Yeah, great in Thunderbolts.
00:51:11
Speaker
Those movies just don't come out as quickly as most others. No. Online or to rent by. Yeah. Mel Brooks, coming out of retirement, 98 years old, turning 99 next a week.
00:51:24
Speaker
When this movie comes out, he'll be 101 years old. If he laughs, he's going to play Yogurt. He's also going to probably play President Scrooge, coming back to reprise those roles.
00:51:35
Speaker
But coming out of retirement, for the first time in, what, 30 years? Rick Moranis. I loved Rick Moranis growing up. I still love him to this day. Ghostbusters, of course. We watch that all the time.
00:51:48
Speaker
But coming out of retirement to play Dark Helmet and Rick Moranis, that's the most exciting news of the year. um I was hoping he would. and They must have signed the dot and released this right away because that was definitely, whether this movie was going to be working or not, was definitely all on if Rick Moranis reprised his role as Dark Helmet.
00:52:08
Speaker
So I'll have to wait and see. Written by Josh Gad, a couple of his writing partners with what I've heard a strong comedic pedigree. Not sure, I haven't really looked up wrote looked it up too much, but joining the cast and also, Kiki Palmer,
00:52:22
Speaker
um And yeah, Louis Paulman, I can't wait to see him working with his father. The only two people that aren't joining the cast because they pass is, of course, John Candy, who played Barf, and um Doc's Matrice, what's her name, comedian, fuck, of course, Joan Rivers.
00:52:40
Speaker
She passed about a decade ago, so they're not coming back. um Not sure who who Kiki Palmer's playing. She could play another version of a robot, another droid, who knows. Yeah, interesting.
00:52:52
Speaker
Cannot wait to see how that plays out. Weekend box office last week. Lilo and Stitch won again with $32.5 million. Ballerina with And Mission Impossible got another $15 million.
00:53:05
Speaker
Andor ended about a month ago. Number one on Nielsen's streaming charts during the week of the final episode. 931 million minutes overall watched during that week.
00:53:18
Speaker
I'm not sure about how many homes that is. 931 million. I don't know what that translates into to how many people actually watched it. But it seems like a pretty big number for for one week of watching. I know.
00:53:31
Speaker
Great ending to the show. um Rest in peace to Brian Wilson. I just talked about him a year ago when the with the um Beach Boys documentary came out on Disney+. plus um Innovator of music, but but mostly what he's going to be known for.
00:53:45
Speaker
Recording music, of course. And also known for being very, very shy, very much his mental issues as far as being in pop, being in performing in in public.
00:53:59
Speaker
I think it was early 70s, he stopped performing with the Beach Boys and they had a performing act that would go out perform his songs that he wrote and recorded.
00:54:10
Speaker
So rest in peace to him. Rest in peace to...
00:54:15
Speaker
Harris Yuland. Don't know the name, but you definitely know the character if you love Ghostbusters. Ghostbusters 2. He played the judge in Ghostbusters 2. The Scolari brothers. um He passed away this week.
00:54:27
Speaker
um He's been in a ton of shit, too. Not just this. He was in, what's the other movie? The big movie? Oh, Scarface. He gets killed by Tony Montana in that. But, yeah, he's a character actor. You see him in a ton of shit since then. um Yeah, rest in peace to him.
00:54:43
Speaker
um Warner Brothers Discovery. They plan to divide the company into two publicly traded entities. I remember we talked about it couple weeks ago where one of the one of the stock people saying this is a bad idea to do this. Well, they decided they're going to do it.
00:54:56
Speaker
They're going splitting it into two companies. Warner Brothers, kind of global, all the TV networks, which is the Discovery part, which they just merged with. And all of the Warner Brothers streaming and studio stuff going on the other side. Warner Brothers, DC, the game section, HBO Max, New Line Cinema.
00:55:16
Speaker
All that stuff's going all in one. And the other stuff's going to be Discovery, TLC, TNT, TBS, all the networks. So yeah, interesting. think they're in 2026 it'll be finalized. So...
00:55:29
Speaker
um Yeah. Interesting. They they're also they also do't want to do this Discovery Plus app. They want that to be more standalone, so it's probably all that stuff that's been on HBO Max will be taken off eventually and gone over to their own app again.
00:55:44
Speaker
um Which I did like when I first came out. It was my favorite app at the time, Discovery Plus. Had a lot of stuff on there. But... um
00:55:51
Speaker
This week, Disney finalized the ownership of Hulu. um NBCUniversal had owned, um like ah i think, a less than a quarter of it up until this week, and they finally bought them out with a $439 million dollars payment to own the whole entire thing.
00:56:08
Speaker
So, yeah. um In the Grammys, next year's categories for the Grammys, they're going to be adding a new category, ah Best Album Cover for the first time. So if you have an album cover, you'll be able to do that.
00:56:25
Speaker
uh new movie coming out we've got new posters july 2nd heads of state with john cena you'll just it just elbow a brand new character posters look great um got a new poster for i know what you did last summer remake coming out um july 18th next month um looks just like the poster that came out 20 years ago just a remake of that poster I'm going watch those movies.
00:56:49
Speaker
I've got new character posters for Wednesday coming out just in like a month and a half, I think. don't remember when that comes out. um Joining this movie with Jonathan Majors called True Threats, an action thriller.
00:57:05
Speaker
WWE superstar, don't know if I read picture here. Yeah, I do. Jade Cargill. Weird casting choice. I haven't seen much of her besides that she's a good good wrestler.
00:57:16
Speaker
But, yeah, interesting.
00:57:19
Speaker
Kate Segal, Michael Trucco, Kate Sackhoff, who else is on here? Heather Graham, all in joining the cast of this Carrie TV series happening on Amazon.
00:57:31
Speaker
Some familiar faces there. Not familiar names, that's why I didn't mention them. But, yeah. um Hulu acquires Gatton Matarasso, who's in Stranger Things, and Sean Gillibrand, who's in The Goldbergs.
00:57:46
Speaker
They're in this ah drug trip comedy movie that's going on Hulu. It was just just announced this week, the two of them. um Snoop Dogg.
00:57:58
Speaker
Having a biopic. This is the kid who's playing it. Jonathan Davis. ah Yeah. This is announced this week as well. Casting for this. um I don't know how to say his name. He played mont Manta in Aquaman. Yahu Abdul Mateen.
00:58:13
Speaker
Yeah, he's also in Wonder Man. He's going be in David Fincher's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood spinoff movie. Nice. He's a good actor. I like him a lot. He is awesome in the Watchmen TV show.
00:58:29
Speaker
tv show yeah Yeah, I heard that. We're going to watch that in September. yeah um Robert Eggers writing his next movie, A Christmas Carol. kind of And he's writing it for Willem Dafoe to foe star. Perfect casting. Absolutely perfect.
00:58:45
Speaker
Yep, perfect. um Netflix is developing a pro wrestling drama. They're already doing that behind the scenes wrestling the in the writer's room. This is a whole written, scripted series ah about called Tuesday Night Titans, about this ah this group of people, a writer, um and this jobber-like indie character wrestler who ends up going and working for a big wrestling company um and telling their story of writing and this kid trying to become a ah big wrestling big wrestler for this company.
00:59:16
Speaker
Sounds like a lot of drugs, lot of alcohol, lot of ruthless colleagues. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. Kind of weird how... Kind of weird how WWE is going right into the kayfabe thing of everything now.
00:59:30
Speaker
Like we mentioned, it's all it's all because of what happened with with ah the podcast universe right now in wrestling. but um Brand new docuseries, I believe it came out today, called Secrets of the Buddy Ranch. Talking about the everything that happened with the Moonlight Buddy Ranch with Cat House.
00:59:46
Speaker
Big Q's show 2005, about 20 years ago. Six-part docuseries. A&E, two parts, airs yesterday. So it should be on like iTunes or wherever now.
00:59:56
Speaker
But yeah, six episodes total. The next four weeks two up next three weeks, two episodes a week. but ah Maybe interested to watch that. And Reacher, season four. Announced to be with a Subway picture, of the script on there. um And then the next day, what's his name?
01:00:14
Speaker
Alan Richardson holding a book that is based off Gone Tomorrow, which I know nothing about other than it's based in New new York City, I'm guessing. so um Yeah, cannot wait for that. um Got a brand new casting of everybody joining in the cast of Harry Potter.
01:00:29
Speaker
You're not going to know any of these people, so i'm not going to name them, but they didn't they did get the Weasleys, um the Malfoys, the Dursleys, Cornelius Fudge, who's the leader of the Ministry of Magic, so a lot of characters shaping form to this series. and Cannot wait. Excited for this.
01:00:49
Speaker
um Something happened with video games. i think it was Xbox had a thing this week. They announced some new ones. The big one was dead Deadpool VR.
01:01:00
Speaker
A whole VR experience of Deadpool voiced by pat Neil Patrick Harris. um Other than that, don't know much more about it. Looked good, though. Also announced an Invincible game.
01:01:11
Speaker
Fighting game. Looked pretty good. um Reminiscent of Mortal Kombat type style. um Xbox also announced their very first portable system.
01:01:23
Speaker
Xbox Alley, Xbox Alley X. Looks dumb, but one comes with 16 gigabyte memory, one comes with 24 gigabyte memory, one terabyte storage. And yeah, so you play your full Xbox catalog on there. So they're basically just trying to copy on the Steam type deal.
01:01:41
Speaker
The portable Steam Deck, something like that. Yeah, everything, yeah. Switches, yeah. Yep, Switch. Yep. And Call of Duty Black Ops 7, Milo Villamint, Ventimiglia, who was in Heroes and a whole bunch of, he played Sly Stone's son in one of the Rocky movies, um has been has been part ah doing cat mo-cap for this, and they played a huge trailer for Black Ops 2, Ops 7. Yeah.
01:02:06
Speaker
Yeah, I'm not into Call of Duty. I haven't played much of it in modern time. Back in the day when it was World War II, I did. I liked that, but yeah. Yeah. um Live action Legend of Zelda movie has moved up or moved back to May 7th.
01:02:23
Speaker
i They're saying for more time, but that was also the day of Secret Wars. I think they're just taking advantage of being the first movie of blockbuster summer. When the Secret world super Wars moved, they took that date right away. so um It's only a couple months later than what they planned in March. but um yeah That's kind of cool.
01:02:42
Speaker
um Let's get into some swag. Swag! Stuff we all get. Come on, son. You know that's right. Some brand new pop figures from The Office. This is the beach the Beach episode, the very last season of Michael Scott, or one of the last episodes. Not the last episode.
01:03:00
Speaker
No. Fourth season with ah with the last episodes of... Fuck, you're not going know anyway. ah But yeah, this is where of the beach this is were on they're on the beach and Pam and Jim are not together yet. This is right before they get together.
01:03:17
Speaker
And there's some funny stuff that happens in that season. They're doing pop figures of that. Godzilla minus one gigantic supersized pop figure. If they don't come out with a variant of this with the scales that are all lit up or glow in the dark, that would be a travesty. That's the best part of that movie.
01:03:35
Speaker
It does look really cool though. It's going be supersized. um Hallmark going to releasing all the all the Hallmark ornaments pretty soon. They started to release a couple of them. This is an animatronic Kermit the Frog doing Rainbow Connection musical ornament. and His mouth moves.
01:03:51
Speaker
Song plays in the background. Available on ju July 12th for $55.99. um These are getting more and more intricate and detailed. I like it. I like or i like Hallmark ornaments.
01:04:03
Speaker
very so Very slippery slope once you get into those. so Very addicting. I think I have like 25 of them on my tree at Christmas time. But yeah. um Mondo.
01:04:16
Speaker
I talked about it a couple of months ago. there's Spider-Man figure. There's a Venom figure. Well, now there's a Carnage Mondo figure. looks really, really cool. Right out of the animated series from the 90s. um With, of course, Cletus Kasady and the mask coming off of him as as Carnage.
01:04:30
Speaker
um Looks really, really cool. I'd like to add that to my collection, but I'd probably have to pay double for it because I'm sure it's out of the stock. um Ryan Coogler talking about i'm not sure what he's talking about currently but um did confirm that he is writing a part for Denzel Washington in Black Panther 3 which has not been officially confirmed um but we know we know it's happening so he is writing it currently so yeah it's probably going to be his next movie um Chris Evans said he's sad to be not returning for Avengers Doomsday.
01:04:59
Speaker
um I'm guessing he's full of shit because he's probably coming back either for this or Secret Wars. Coming back for one of them. If Robert Downey's coming back, there's no there's no way they're not bringing him back. but yeah With the wait.
01:05:11
Speaker
um In two weeks, Ironheart comes out probably mid-excitement for that. Not here or there. um Probably even less for you. But ah yeah, comes out on Disney Plus on June 24th. We'll talk about it or I'll talk about it then.
01:05:26
Speaker
um
01:05:29
Speaker
The finalists to play Clayface in this Clayface movie that's being cast currently. ah George McKay, Tom Blythe, Jack O'Connell, and Leo Woodall.
01:05:41
Speaker
um Jack O'Connell was in Sinners. He was incredible in Sinners. He's my choice. He's my choice as well. Or George McKay, he was in 1917, I believe. He's also very good.
01:05:53
Speaker
Yeah, I hear that too. um but The other guy played Cornelius in what's his name? Hunger Games. Hunger Games, yeah. yeah So, yeah, interesting. We'll have to wait see. Like you mentioned, I think Jack O'Connell should definitely do something like that.
01:06:07
Speaker
Yeah. um Brand new picture of ah of Frank Grillo, who's playing Rick Flag Sr. Brand new behind the scenes of him and James Gunn.
01:06:19
Speaker
um d DC studio Studios will have a Hall H panel. I see any of a Comic-Con, but they'll be focused on Peacemaker more than anything else. A couple weeks out from Superman. Not expecting any Supergirl news.
01:06:32
Speaker
Maybe something. ah Maybe they'll keep that tight, but who knows. This always happens. When Marvel or DC skip out, the other one skips out for some reason. I don't know why. This has happened in the past, too. Last year, DC skipped out completely, but...
01:06:46
Speaker
Marvel was there, but this happened before where one of them skips out that they both kind of backtra backtrack. I mean, last year is kind of where Marvel's at. Marvel doesn't have anything to, like, promote. um right DC has literally just Peacemaker to promote.
01:07:00
Speaker
Lanterns and Supergirl are way too far away, so it wouldn't make sense really to do much with them. Say, New York Comic Con, maybe? Peacemaker comes out like three eight and a half weeks after the Comic Con, so it makes sense that they're going to be basing it off Peacemaker.
01:07:14
Speaker
I've got some new... In-universe newspaper articles and letters from the editor of Daily Planet from Superman. um Some viral stuff going on with this movie.
01:07:25
Speaker
um Yeah, it looked really, really cool. An article read written by Clark Kent talking about the makings of a newest superhero. um And we are one month away. This came out on the 11th.
01:07:37
Speaker
Brand new poster with a corn sweat as Superman. And let's get into some big Superman stuff. First of all, popcorn buckets galore. Crypto popcorn bucket. There's all there's all the all the sides of it, what it's going to look like.
01:07:52
Speaker
got some of course We talked about the newspaper stand one. We talked about the other one, the one with the cape on it. There's a popcorn bucket shaped like Crypto's dog bowl. There's another one with crypto on it.
01:08:05
Speaker
um There's another one with s Superman flying. There's another couple couple ones. There's this one as well. I like the one on the on the left there with the Fortress of Solitude.
01:08:16
Speaker
Another tin there. And if you're Amazon, you if you do Amazon Echoes, they're going to have this new smaller Echo echo Pop themed with Superman, a picture of Superman.
01:08:27
Speaker
You don't have one of those. ah And speculation on where this all could go in the DCU. And casting speculation for this guy, Tramiel Tillman, who is in Severance, who is in Mission Impossible Final Reckoning, to play the Martian Manhunter in the DCU.
01:08:49
Speaker
um He is great in Severance. Very, very good. And I cannot wait to see what else he does in his career, especially season three of that show. um Miracle, Mr. Miracle, you've probably i've done more research on this this week than I have, oh but it's a new animated series.
01:09:08
Speaker
I just put in my order for the Tom King comic book. It should be coming from Amazon tomorrow. that's what I'm looking forward to it. i've heard it's I heard it's fucking fantastic. Tom King's weird because he gets a lot of hate on the internet. I think a lot of that has to do the fact... We do have to do that deep dive into Tom King sometime.
01:09:24
Speaker
But the whole CIA thing and like killing millions of... like He was in the room that planned... the Iraqi war after 9-11. um So I think a lot of people don't like him because of that. Apparently he ruined Wonder Woman.
01:09:38
Speaker
He just did, he just started the Wonder Woman run and people seemingly hated that. But everything I've read from him from Supergirl, We'll Move Tomorrow, the new Black Canary run he had, which was six issues, was great.
01:09:53
Speaker
I feel like his shorter runs, six, eight, maybe 12 issues are like really good. But After that, I think he just everything I've read from him, I i like a lot. um This is highly praised.
01:10:06
Speaker
What's that? yeah I said this is highly praised. Yeah. Paul's surprising at winning, I think, for Mr. Miracle. Never heard of him until this week, so I can't wait to get your opinion on that when you get it. um
01:10:19
Speaker
Entertainment Weekly had a huge spread on Superman. the The floodgates have opened. Superman is here. um They got the this little video that played um of Corn Sweat and brought and what's what's her name?
01:10:33
Speaker
Brosnahan? Is that her name? Yeah, Rachel Brosnahan. Rachel Brosnan and James Gunn all in a telephone booth taking a picture. And right there alone... yeah that's work on How dare James Gunn be in promotion for the movie he made? How dare he?
01:10:48
Speaker
Right there alone on the... Right there on the... What a narcissist. But on the left, yes. That is... The chemistry. That's all we need. Yeah. Yeah. Somebody put online a picture.
01:10:58
Speaker
Somebody put online a picture of like the first promo shot of Henry and Amy Adams. And yeah, saw that. Henry looks constipated. And in the other one, I was just like, and the other one was a picture of them too. I'm like, well, in one of these, they look like they're in love.
01:11:12
Speaker
who It's true. they The chemistry looks like it's off the charts, yeah which gets me all warm and fuzzy. Yeah, I cannot wait. Yeah. um What's going on here?
01:11:25
Speaker
and then Some pictures that were in the magazine, some shots. um The black and white one is really cool. I know they colorized it. like that. um In article, James Gunn talked a about a lot of things. Some of the things taking note in the media.
01:11:41
Speaker
ah Batman 2, what's happening with that? He says, what Matt Reeves is doing is really important. Despite all stories to the contrary, we're supposed to see that script shortly and he can't wait. Okay, we'll see on that. New Wonder Woman movie. Officially in the works at DC Studios.

Marvel and DCU: The Future of Superheroes

01:11:56
Speaker
Saying we're working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman is being written right now. First time they talked about that other other than separate from the animated show.
01:12:04
Speaker
Paradise Lost. Paradise Lost, yep. It's going to Theramascara. Yeah, Saturic. But yeah, it's a whole different story. He's talking about actual Wonder Woman live action.
01:12:17
Speaker
Confirms Superman has been active for three years at the time of this movie picks up. um Talks about metahumans have been around for centuries in this version of the DCU, in this universe. So it would be like he he mentioned kind of part it'd be like Paul McCartney walking around the street kind of like these superheroes are celebrities in this in this time.
01:12:37
Speaker
um talked about his time at marvel and how he felt forced to put thor and guardians of the galaxies also uh talking about adam warlock being forced put in the third movie kind of the restraints of being part of that whole entire conglomerated disney um and says superman will have a post-credits scene um he has a philosophy about post-credit scenes it's somewhere related to my own mistakes in marvel taking all those mistakes we just talked about um he doesn't want to have too many but he's gonna have one at least uh setting up something in the future also says how i talked about that um and he's already working on a form of a superman sequel um what i'm working on is in some way i mean yes yes yes yes it is is it a straight up superman sequel
01:13:24
Speaker
i would not say not i would say not well I would not say necessarily. um Speculation, world's finest. Batman, Superman.
01:13:35
Speaker
My whole thing about this is I think um that would be the right move to go is do a world's finest before Brave and the Bold. um Because we have the Matt Reeves stuff going on, yeah I think it would make more sense to maybe introduce the DCU Batman and possibly Clayface and then do a world's finest movie and like...
01:13:52
Speaker
2027 2028 and then do brave and the bold whenever you can um i think that would be the best the best route to go um especially if you have the two batman series i think it would just be a little bit too much for the general audience yep i got some new pictures that came out in that magazine as well uh some new shots of the cast um and A whole bunch of stuff happened this week.

Superman Premiere Excitement: Tickets and Trailers

01:14:17
Speaker
Number one, I got two sets of tickets. One we're not going to be able to go to. I'm keeping them in case we are. I can get rid of them the night of. But I got Tuesday night premiere if we want to see it. I got Thursday premiere. We're definitely going to see.
01:14:31
Speaker
But um tickets went on sale this week for Superman. um Prime, Fandango had their own thing for Tuesday premiere. You can only get the tickets on the on Fandango.
01:14:43
Speaker
That was weird. Got them. But the regular on-sale tickets happened on Wednesday. i Got those as well. Got decent seats. Fandango offering this weird $59 for a movie ticket bundle.
01:14:57
Speaker
um Including this poster. It does look really cool. Comes with a comic book and a hat as well. um For $59, kind of a decent deal, especially if you don't have a Superman hat. But yeah, I do like this art, though. That's a really cool concept art of him going to the Fortress of Solitude. Yep, that's cool.
01:15:16
Speaker
um But yeah, i take this one on sale on the 11th. Got those, got some new posters for all the ScreenX, IMAX, Real real D, 4DX, Dolby Digital.
01:15:28
Speaker
All looked cool. The best art that came out of this is this one, especially when they took the the text off of it. The one on the top left, um him flying, is kind of a better version of the of the teaser trailer poster that we got back a few months ago.
01:15:42
Speaker
um And then we get the release trailer of Tickets on Sale, the trailer, which we got some great, great shots. Mm-hmm. Guy Gardner taking the internet by storm with a middle finger.
01:15:56
Speaker
um and We got Superman. We got Lex Luthor. We got Guy Gardner. from We got face to face Baby Joey. We got Metamorpho. oh yeah We got this really cool picture of Mr. Terrific with all of his robots.
01:16:10
Speaker
But the best... scene of superman in the last 20 years is this one of the heat vision and superman going around in a whirlspin and crypto was in this scene too didn't realize it's a later um there's him right there but superman going merc crazy with all these people flying around him and just cutting him in half with with fire beams with a with heat vision beams Awesome. If you're not seeing this, go watch this trailer. Go see the scene. How about when he punches the guy's teeth out, you can hear the teeth hit the fucking camera lens?
01:16:45
Speaker
A lot of people are complaining about that, saying, oh yeah, we can kill Superman can kill, but he can also punch people's teeth out. Yep. I've also seen people be like, why is there no blood?
01:16:56
Speaker
Right. Yeah. But, yeah, it becomes the Fandango's best first-day ticket sale of this year. um good It's already a promising start. I've looked at the seats that we bought for Tuesday and Thursday.
01:17:09
Speaker
Most of the theaters are both sold out, so that's promising. You don't see that for a Tuesday show and a Thursday show selling out that quickly. So i think we're going to get big numbers that weekend. So, yeah, that's it for news.

Final Thoughts and a Geeky Goodbye

01:17:20
Speaker
That's it for this week.
01:17:21
Speaker
um Next week on Sunday, the Bears Season 4 comes out on Hulu. Talk about that as much as we can. 28 days later, 28 weeks later. I'm going to try to watch those this week.
01:17:34
Speaker
um I know the new movie comes out next Friday. I'm not sure. We're probably not going to watch that next week. We'll see. but um The Year of Superman. We are going to watch this. The Man of Steel, for sure.
01:17:46
Speaker
Also, there's a documentary that you've been teasing for a while selling Superman. We both have it. We both procured it. We're going to watch that. In two weeks, we've got to remember, before the end of the month, Kingdom Come.
01:17:59
Speaker
I'm to start reading it this week, and we're going to get into that the whole run in a couple weeks of the final episode of the month. And then July 4th is the end of our whole year of Superman Spectacular leading into the movie the week after. um We're going to into some Snyderverse stuff at the end, and we'll talk about it next week. but um Thank you, everyone, and we will talk to you then.
