Enjoy listening to this crossover episode where Greg and Oscar are joined by Vik who feels very optimistic (as usual) ahead of the Saturday's game! The Cherries are travelling only 35 miles away this weekend to confront the last ranked team on the table. Will the roof be falling off the St Mary's, or will the Cherries continue their great run and try to get that spot that leads to one of the European competitions next year?

Hello and welcome to the Daily Southampton and today the Daily Bournemouth, part of the Global Sports Podcast Network. It is everybody's favourite

Guest Introductions

00:00:18
Speaker
day. It's crossover Thursday. I'm joined by Oscar from the Southampton team. How are you doing Oscar? Yeah, good thank you.
00:00:25
Speaker
and Vic from the Daily Bournemouth. How are you doing, my friend? Hello, I'm just trying to set up my mic because nothing is listening to me today, it looks like.

Bournemouth's Unexpected Success

00:00:34
Speaker
But hopefully FC Bournemouth players will listen to me ah this weekend and when we play because I'm going to be shouting out loud. that's Right. That's it. let's get Well, let's get straight into it and we'll start by asking you a bit about Bournemouth. I'm sure you're feeling really good with the season so far.
00:00:54
Speaker
Would you say it exceeded expectations, or was this exactly what you were thinking would happen? Definitely exceeded. One of the the episodes we did the pre-season, I did the predict the moment will finish in position number eight, which is still possible. But with the way we are playing this season so far, I think we can do better than eight.
00:01:15
Speaker
definitely I couldn't I couldn't anticipate this kind of play this position being in the seventh on the table with only three points less than the fourth ranked one and now with the chance as well to be able to play Europe next year dreams are very big yes it's a good run you found yourself on and even you know struck down with some injuries and still seem to be fighting through and and knocking on and getting the results through the door I was, I was scared to be honest with with eight players being out due to the injuries. I

Bournemouth's Adaptability Amid Injuries

00:01:47
Speaker
was scared how are we going to carry on with the season, obviously without two strikers, with with both being injured and then Dango stepped in. who's I've never seen, since I saw football, ball I've never seen him playing a striker, right?
00:02:03
Speaker
He came on first game, so-so, second game, so the third game, Haptrix. Bang. Unbelievable. And I really thought we were going to sign a striker um and in this winter transfer period, which we did, the 18-year-old. But he did stay in FC Lorian alone till the end of the season. So yeah, we we we're pretty much the same. And we're going to have to play like this until the end of the season and see whatever that brings.
00:02:29
Speaker
and you know coming up to the weekend, how are you feeling about the game? Are you feeling like there's any sort of hope for us that you might look past us and and think that it's too easy and and have a bit of a non-appeal or would you like me to take it quite seriously? No game is too easy in Premier League, let's be honest. Any team can beat tiny any team, um especially since you've got a new coach, he seems to be doing better then than the previous one. Obviously, you had this run when
00:03:00
Speaker
Was it in 16 games? They only got two points, something like that. and So it was quite rough for Southampton. And it will be interesting to see what what the new coach will will bring till the end of the season. and You still got the chance to stay in the Premier League. Chances

Southampton's Premier League Struggles

00:03:17
Speaker
are low, but you still got the chance. Theoretically, it's possible. But what I can say, Shirley, from our side,
00:03:26
Speaker
If you get relegated, we won't be seeing you next year, maybe in the cup, maybe in the cup, but not in the press. I think

Learning From Southampton's Past Coaching Changes

00:03:35
Speaker
it's really interesting. I think your you've almost carbon copied what we did a few years ago when we we had a we had Nigel Adkins, really popular. Club made an unpopular decision to get rid of him, brought in some fellow from Spain that no one's ever heard of.
00:03:51
Speaker
uproar at the club really upset that we've got rid of this good coach and then all of a sudden he's just taking you to another level and it just seems it's a really uh you know from from our perspective i'd say enjoy it because it's you know it's going to be a good few seasons i'm not gonna lie it's it does feel and as long as we can keep as many players and the coach let's see how far we can get because anyway Iroyo at the moment is punching above his weight and it just everything feels like I don't even know it's when i cause I go and watch every home game and if I can I go and watch a ways but rarely and even at the home games you know fans are not let's say they don't have too big expectations like
00:04:37
Speaker
We know that we're going to do something. And we start the game with knowing that we're going to do something. Even if we miss a chance or two, the fans don't get really disappointed because they know that the players won't stop until the end. And this is what I think carries the the whole team, the the whole high press and everything. And as I said in in one of our previous episodes, I got my passport ready. So hopefully I'll travel a bit more next year. And ah are you feeling optimistic like that is going to be the case? oh Or but do you think that there's sort of a down blip in the season yet to come? How realistic are you you thinking in European spots are at this point? It's going to be tough

Bournemouth's European Ambitions

00:05:22
Speaker
again, depends on on the number of points, on the number of
00:05:25
Speaker
ah teams from the other leagues because last year if I remember We had eight spots in Premier League that was leading to the to the to the Europe So with eight position playing in the conference So even the conference would be a good start because boomers never played any European competitions now If we get qualified for the Europe, we definitely more need more more players. We need more depth in the squad and with the players at the moment, it's it's going to be really difficult you know to to be able to play the Premier League, the Cup, and Europe. But I think things are looking good. And to be honest, with having to play, I think it's only Arsenal or City left. You can say United as well for bigger teams, but we've beaten them 3-0 away. So I'm sure it's going to be an interesting game to see in Vitality when they come. But apart from that, it's
00:06:20
Speaker
it's The schedule is all right. It's not tough. It's not bad. It's you know it's something that we we can get the points from. and i like Is it 14 games left until the end of the season, if I'm right? Yeah, from 14 games, if we get 30 points, I'm more than happy. I'm more than happy, because with 30 points from 14 games, we we would be with 70. And then that will definitely take us to Europe. But let's see.
00:06:46
Speaker
yeah Well, I'm certainly enjoying watching you this season and watching how you unfold. I know that ah perhaps between some of our fans, there might be some animosity, but ah I like seeing Bournemouth do well personally. I think it's good. ah It's great to see so some of the sort of underdogs punching above their weight. that' make I'm still hopeful that you'll do really well all of the other games except Saturday.
00:07:14
Speaker
but maybe we'll come back to that and we'll talk a bit more about our season and saints after a message from our partners at Zencaster. So here at the Global Sports Podcast Network, we spent a lot of time selecting our delivery platform and Zencaster came out the clear winner with 4K video recording from your phone and AI editing that automatically removes all those ums and ahs. Zencastr Partnership Highlight

00:07:44
Speaker
if you're ready to tell your story check out link in's show description to learn more about zencastr ah okay vick so we've done a lot of talking about balmouth but i'm going to yeah hand the reins over to you yeah's few question'm goingnna ask questions now right how do you feel after after the last six games being defeated at home, how do you feel about it? Is this seven lucky number going to be for you or what do you think the game will bring? ah I would have been optimistic and thought that we might have got something out of this game had we beaten Burnley. I think it could have been a real springboard to sort of at least just to scramble past the the points, the Derby record and
00:08:24
Speaker
and maybe just to get a few points on the board and give a little bit of a little bit of a glimmer of hope and but unfortunately the hope died pretty quickly so yeah i'm I'm not particularly confident it's not the best team you want to come into off the back of that and and I think it's ah it's not the fan base again if I'm honest from people I've spoken to. I mean it's it's you know you're only seven points away from the team above you and then looking at the last a few teams on the table, like, you know, you can still get that 17 position, which, you know, will have you stay in the league. We've seen everything. We've seen Leicester winning the league. Hello. So why not? You know, and that's why I say about Boomer this season, if we are where we are, um, in 24 games, it's, we might be able to play Europe. Why not? Why not now? Why, why wait? You know, so anything, anything is possible. No things, things can turn around pretty easily.
00:09:20
Speaker
And to be honest with you, I think we're going to win. But um considering that, obviously, you're still going to fight to try and stay and bomb it as a you know team who everybody travels in their cars to watch the game to Southampton.
00:09:41
Speaker
you know it's It's definitely going to be interesting. And I would be happy, even with the draw, knowing that you really need it. you know it Definitely, I think both themes will go all in. Yeah, it's definitely one of those things where we really need to get the monkey off our back, especially when it comes to home form. And because we've been

Southampton's Home Performance Woes

00:10:02
Speaker
so dismally poor at home, ah in really recent memory, it's not going to take a lot to to knock the confidence in the stadium. ah So hopefully, we can put on some sort of performance that can hold that together because
00:10:18
Speaker
really think that's going to be a key part and you know Burnley has probably gone a long way to undoing a lot of the positivity that might have come off the back of that Ipswich win. so burn it's ah yeah It's a real shame but then we were still quite rotated against Burnley and we didn't really play to the sort of picture that we've seen set up so far so if we can go back to what we did at Ipswich and and be a bit more pragmatic and create a bit more then That is one thing I'd say. be bad yeah looking at Looking at our squad, i mean we don't one thing we actually can't really complain about a touch word is that we haven't really, other than Ramsdale, been hit too hard with injuries this year in a massive way. I know we've got a bit of an issue at Santa Back at the moment, but actually looking at the team that I think we will have available, it's pretty much um full strength back back to it now. so It's given me a bit more cause for optimism, to be fair. Who do you think will be your shining star of Saturday?
00:11:19
Speaker
I think Sulemana has been sort been really impressive for the last few weeks, to be fair. um And since Europe's just come back in, actually, it's given him a bit of a new lease of life. um So I think he's been the one that he's probably the one to watch in terms of creating something and making it happen. The the question is just if there's anyone to actually finish it. um And Wellington, as well, to be fair, has come in in January. And he, I think, was was was in one of the teams of the week this week, despite everything.
00:11:48
Speaker
so really he's another one that's yeah that's a bit of an unknown but he's been he's been pretty tidy in a couple of games he's played so yeah we need that tall pool home goal because if that comes in the first half the roof's going to come off St Mary's and that'll carry the atmosphere for the rest because uh such a ah cult hero that hasn't managed to get that goal at St Mary's yet but but when it does the atmosphere is going to be insane so that's That might be the the thing that carries us over the line with some optimism.
00:12:21
Speaker
i i first star of soleimano when he used to play in in red and ah remember or that was yeah a couple years ago i played be fine and I got him I don't know from from a pack whatever opened the pack and then I started using him in a team and he was quite quick like you know it was all about pace players and all that and no one could ever catch him you know and then obviously with the new FIFA now you can upgrade the players and all that and he's looking very good so I think he might be your your key player actually Kamaldin Tsulemana on the weekend hey hopefully you won't score first you'll have to chase us if the halftime
00:12:59
Speaker
And as a draw, nil, nil. Second half will be definitely, you know, more interesting to watch and and because, you know, you have nothing to lose. We, for Iraola, every game is important, no matter if if it's a cup or is it a Premier League game, even if we're playing the the last place, the team on the table, Iraola really takes things seriously. And um I think both teams will, if not from the start, the second half will give 100%.
00:13:28
Speaker
um And this this surely will be goals. Yeah, I think that it's pretty safe to say that there could be goals. I'm just optimistic that some of them will be ours.
00:13:41
Speaker
OK, well, that brings us pretty nicely to to a break. ah So after that, we'll come back with some predicted score lines and how we actually think it's going to get on. But first, a message from our partners at the Global Sports Podcast Network. So this podcast is part of the Global Sports Podcast Network.

Match Predictions Discussion

00:14:14
Speaker
Global Sports Podcast Network, every club, every day. That dreaded time of the episode where we come to score predictions. Vic, as our guests today, are going to throw you under the bus first.
00:14:28
Speaker
how do you How do you see it playing out when the when the dust settles on Saturday? 1-0 to Bournemouth, 1-1, 2-1, we're going to score in the last 10 as we usually do. we We've got that talisman last 10 minutes of the game that we know to score the goal and I think that's what's going to happen. Probably one stupid mistake from Southampton defenders and I can see it going in as 2-1 and Bournemouth taking away all three points.
00:14:54
Speaker
We've been pretty lucky with with playing in the last scoring goals in the last 10 minutes and especially that comeback against Everton that no one will forget and then getting later in the season and three out of three against Everton winning wise. So yeah, definitely 2-1. So over 2.5 goals for the bookies and Bournemouth winning both teams scoring. So yeah, and I think Bruxy will score again against Southampton.
00:15:23
Speaker
and be the poetic part of football coming into play, I'm sure. The poetic, and Clavit will get back on the score sheet as well, so Clavit and Bruxy for Bournemouth and a 2-1 away win. ah Based on some of your form in January, I think a lot of our fanbase would probably take a 2-1 loss instead of a 5-0 or 4-1. Oscar, you feeling optimistic?
00:15:45
Speaker
To be fair, I actually was was quite similar to the route that you went down, Vic. um I agree that I think I've ever noted Dan Brooks. I think he's going to score. I think, if I don't know if you've got anyone that's due a goal, that's in a massive goal drought, because they would definitely score. and we We tend to be good at doing that. I had the exact same as you, but then in the last few minutes, a tall Paul equaliser 2-2. And I'll take that to be fair and snap your hand off for it.
00:16:10
Speaker
but Okay, very nice. just I would take limbs limbs limbs in St. Mary's for the first time this season. We were flying. it Well, I am the optimistic part of the Saints podcast. And so far this season, i I have not predicted a Saints loss. And it's not going to change today, that's for sure. So I think that it's going to be a really tight game.
00:16:39
Speaker
as i know I feel like there's going to be a bit of back and forth, so I think 2-1 as well, but to us and not to Bournemouth. That's that the hope. Score us for your team. Get that monkey off the back and get to 12 points, so we're not the worst team in Premier League history and then the rest of the seasons are free for all. Hopefully we can start putting a few more wins together and maybe staying up becomes an actual possibility instead of a joke. That's the hope.
00:17:08
Speaker
I wasn't joking when I said anything is possible. I said if Lesley could have won the title. Yeah, ah you that means that you're more optimistic than I think any of us. I'm just saying there's always options, you know, and there's always even 99.99 against 0.01, you know, it's... Yeah. Fingers crossed. One in a million, but it happens. How people win the lottery? One in a million, one in 10 million. So, so and but yeah.
00:17:37
Speaker
that it Well, unfortunately that is all we've got time for today a slightly compact episode due to some time constraints, but Vic thank you very much for joining us After Saturday, I hope you have the best rest of the season and do end up in the European places But I hope that we do at least set that back a bit on Saturday Oscar as always. Thanks for joining me. Thanks everyone for listening Give us a follow on all the socials and go and give the daily Bournemouth a listen thank you everyone and we will see you for lo for lo for lo
