Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to the Global Sports Podcast Network. This is Daley Lester and I'm Jake and today previewing the Nottingham Forest match tomorrow evening. I'm joined by Marley from Daley Forest. How are you Marley?
00:00:23
Marley
i am very very good harboring a bit of a cold but shouldn't hold me back looking forward to tomorrow night's tie should be a very very tasty tie
00:00:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah I agree. I agree with the cold and and that I think it's going to be a tasty game. um Obviously we've had a season without playing each other so I think the fans are probably way more excited than anyone else. ah Yeah both clubs are excited to see each other once again and especially being a Friday night it could be quite a tasty match. um I guess really my my first thoughts are um I'd like to know what you think of Forrest's start to the season. Obviously from the outside I think quite a positive start.
00:01:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
three 1-0 victories so far this season in the league. and yeah So what are your overall thoughts on are not too far so far this season?

Nottingham Forest's Strong Start and Key Tactics

00:01:11
Marley
I think we've, we've come out of the blocks flying. I think there was a general feeling around the club last season, around January after five, and well, in December, a final defeat to, to Fulham that Cooper needed to be sacked, that we needed change as much. We didn't really want to admit it because of ah the feeling around him being the one that brought us back to the Premier League after 20 odd years, got rid of him, brought Nuno in. The start was good. We beat United, beat Newcastle. It didn't,
00:01:37
Marley
go as perfectly in the middle of the season like after that little new manager bounce but we saw signs there and we knew that given preseason it could come good but i don't think anyone expected you know eighth position if we beat you then provisionally we'll be fifth we're unbeaten away from home which is why we're so so optimistic coming into this game and we've We've taken four points out of Liverpool away and Chelsea away, which again is not something we'd ever dreamed of two years ago when our away form was embarrassing. So it's not the disease and it's been nothing but a dream.
00:02:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
no Fair enough, for it very very positive and I wasn't really expecting anything else. I was um i was lucky enough in in some ways to to be at the Liverpool Forest game. I was in the Liverpool end thanks to some complimentary tickets and but obviously wasn't so thankful when when quite rightly, to be honest, I thought Forest deserved it.
00:02:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
um ah Excellent excellent performance.
00:02:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sometimes teams go and smash and grab and that's still brilliant but actually I thought you were really really good that day. um Yeah, so obviously I mentioned three 1-0 victories so far, so I think it's fair to say you've been really solid at the back, you haven't lost away from home. um Where do you think like the key to the successful start has been, really? Has that been individual players, tactical? ah what What do you think?
00:02:36
Marley
There.
00:03:01
Marley
I think there's been three different aspects that have contributed. The first being Nuno Espirito Santo. I think Bar the Fulham game, where he got it completely wrong, his tactics and his plans for games have been faultless. They've worked and at some times like Liverpool game, I feel they have been what's carried us into the win. um he's He's known how to break them down. He's known how to take teams by surprise and he's He's just gone and done it and he's gone and got us the wins with his game plans. So Nuno being a tactical genius as the first or second would be individual players. Wood has hit brilliant form. Nikola Milankovic being brought into our defense has fixed our ah set piece problem. He is a a very tall geezer, Serbian captain. He's got good leadership as well. like
00:03:46
Marley
We were holding the ball in the corner during a draw with Chelsea and he screamed at them saying, what are you doing? Get the ball in the box. We can win this. So his mentality is there as well. ah And I'll say the third one is just how solid we've been defensively. You mentioned the one nil wins, which is more but in the smash and grab, which is more because we know that we have a very, very solid defense. We're very hard to break down. So if we score first, then nine times out of 10, we'll see it out.
00:04:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and no that's a a really good summarisation of your season so far. and and As a Leicester fan, it doesn't think too fondly of Forest as a rival, and but I must admit I've been really impressed.
00:04:25
Marley
Right here.
00:04:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
and you right The team looks really solid from everything that I've seen and in person and and when I've managed to watch games on the TV. ah I suppose maybe for the next thing, um you know, still very early days in the in the season, but if you're trying to kick on again, add more goals to the team. But, you know, you've you've had Morgan Gibbs-White, who obviously missed the last game. um Maybe some more goals from him, a few more from midfield of Alanga. Pudson-Doy have contributed. um But, yeah yeah, really, really impressive start. And and certainly the the Forest teams for the last two seasons, I would never really have seen as solid teams. But this one for sure.

Key Players and Strategy for Forest's Success

00:05:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Milinkovic coming in.
00:05:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
looked like a great sign from the outset and he started so well so impressively um yeah it's been ah it's been hard to watch seeing Forrest B do so well so far I'm hoping we might catch you on a bit of a an off night tomorrow night um but we will see Obviously I've mentioned, and you have Malincovitch there, um I wanted to ask about transfers. Obviously Elliot Anderson's come in. He's been probably one of the the big signings or the big sign in the summer alongside Malincovitch. What have you made of Elliot Anderson so far for Forrest?
00:05:37
Marley
I think Kelly Anderson was, for Newcastle it was a free hit gone wrong. For us it was a um kind of just a desperate plea to get out of financial fair play for both of us. I think we knew that if we spent big on him ah nice ben and spent an inflated fee on Vlacodemos that would get us both out of FFP um and shift on some dead wood at the same time because they weren't really using him.
00:06:02
Marley
that much we weren't using Rakurimasa all, he was awful. I saw Newcastle fans asking into leaving him asking to leave him in Japan after pre-season.
00:06:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:06:11
Marley
But yeah, they've got him, they've not played him, and they want him left in Japan. We've got Ali Anderson, and I think Newcastle fans, after watching the Fulham game, feel physically sick. He is literally the Jordy Maradona.
00:06:24
Marley
He will dribble in and out of players. He was creating the chances. The only thing he lacked was a goal. and I think with experience that goal will come.
00:06:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, um he's at he's a fantastic player. Anderson, abert I liked him in Newcastle. I was fortunate to watch him a fair few years ago now when he was online at Bristol Ravens. It was the first time I saw him and he's a really, really exciting player that, yeah, I think, you know, if the rules were different um and and hopefully I think the rules should be changing the future for all clubs because seeing not too far as Newcastle, Aston Villa, lots of clubs having to sell homegrown players or players that most maybe they don't want to move on.
00:07:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
um to to suit these rules just to me Percy doesn't seem right or fair um and we've obviously in Everton and Villa have sort of done a swap deal between homegrown players in order to meet these rules yeah I don't think the rules work in their current form um but seems like Forest have really benefited from ah ah yeah you're right a bit of a desperation from Newcastle in order not to fail rules and Forest have certainly profited in what a great deal getting rid of her a back-up goalkeeper for an inflated sermon, getting a fantastic play on Anderson for a downgraded sum if you like you know cheaper than possibly or value-wise across the deal less than certainly what you should be worth. um Tactically what are you expecting from from the game to tomorrow night from Forest?
00:07:49
Marley
You're expecting us to um arrive with a game plan. why We have done it all away games, which will take into account your current form or take into account the way you've been playing recently and just figure out how we'll beat you pretty much. we ah We did it against Liverpool. We arrived with a game plan. We knew that if we turned up and just held them out, then we could bring on the very dangerous PC attacking threats later on and get a goal. And that's exactly what happened. We got the ball wide to a Langer.
00:08:19
Marley
produced a brilliant ball across to Hudson and Doy who couldn't on his right and finished and quite honestly um it was Alango who created a lot of chances in that first half in that second half sorry which he just couldn't finish him but he was very dangerous and you know what the main thing I'm very excited about is you're right back recently if I'm not mistaken has been James Justin and what I'm hearing on Xbox party with a ah
00:08:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah, that's correct. I think I know what you're going to say.
00:08:49
Marley
unless the City Fan is James, is every single goal, Justin lost his man. Justin's just let his man walk past him, James Justin again.
00:08:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah
00:08:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. look
00:08:58
Marley
Well our left winger, our left winger is Callum Hudson-Adoy.
00:09:03
Marley
If there's any right back in the Premier League who is little more than likely to let Hudson-Adoy onto his right foot for one of his finesse shots, it's Justin and I think it'll happen.
00:09:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, look, Justin um has played every game at right back. Riccardo Pereira is probably our best player last year. One of our best players hasn't played a minute. She's still really odd. Yeah, Justin has been at fault for a lot of goals. He's he's had a really strange season where he obviously had this two great go. Well, one wonderful go Arsenal. um he So he he has had some really good moments, but defensive the yeah quite a lot of the goals. If you watch them back, you know, when we get to the end of this season and and compilations and things come out,
00:09:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
when you actually see all the goals we conceded so many have come down from ah either just a justing mistake or just down his side from being overloaded um or a combination of both of those so yeah Hudson and Oi against Justin it's going to be a really interesting 1v1 battle um yeah and the only thing I would say on that in terms of Hudson and Oi coming on is right is that Justin is very good with both feet and and Usually, it it's so far this is, it tends to be players who actually go past him or get him behind him. um That's where ah the threat is, rather than someone in front of him, if you like. and But Hudson's always certainly got the ability to get past him, um and that could be a real threat. That's the end of the first segment, so obviously

Challenges and Changes at Leicester City

00:10:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
we've talked more predominately about Forest there with a mixture. We're going to have a very quick ad read for myself, and then we're going to sort of switch over and have more of a focus on Leicester.
00:10:28

So as I say we're now going to move into the second segment so I'm going to sort of hand over it a little bit to you Marley and ah ah any questions you might have about Leicester or just things you want to ask me about our season so far.
00:11:10
Marley
Well, there's one very big thing I want to come into with Lesser City and that's last season um watching championship games, watching um watching how you're doing, your progression at the table. It felt like you were on fire, you were flying, you were unstoppable, but late on in the games, you seem to have a especially against dip switch both fixtures you had a susceptibility to conceding late on and throwing good performances down the drain and my first question on that is do you think that's going to carry on in this season do you think you're susceptible to that or do you think this season you're more likely to concede first and then have to fight to get back in the game
00:11:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
me
00:11:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, it's a really good question. and Before the season started, I probably would have tended to agree with you in that, yeah you're right, you know, that we'd lost points in last minutes of games.
00:11:51
Marley
there
00:11:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's actually you two great examples of that, of a very late goals. Leeds United, where we we played really well for sort of 70 minutes and then capitulated. Yeah, so um I probably would have tended to agree, however, that we're now, what, eight games, league games in the season. We haven't seen that. What we've seen is we've actually conceded first in the majority of games. um No more better example than Saturday at Southampton, where we're 2-0 down after, you know, half an hour and then we've come back. um Yeah, we've conceded first in most of the games and come back.
00:12:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
um You can't keep doing that, that's for sure. um We've only kept one clean sheet all season um and if I'm being really honest I'd be really really surprised to keep a clean sheet tomorrow um because some of the attacking threats that Forrest possess and just generally because we've been a little bit too open and our first half performances um have been rubbish for most of the season um in most games and we're we're having to fight back.
00:12:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
um so yeah that's what we're seeing currently this poor first half and it means we usually concede the first goal.
00:12:58
Marley
And the second question from the same thing is, obviously, as I mentioned last season, you were on fire, you were flying, you were unstoppable. You were one of the best teams the EFL Championship has ever seen. What happened? Where's the momentum gone? Why is none of it carried into this season?
00:13:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
um so some So I suppose it's a two-part answer to that is that ah some of the momentum went toward the end of last season when we sort of got to March, April time. um You're absolutely right, we were flying, we we were by far and away clear um and it looked like we were just going to sort of walk to the tyre and it was going to be a bit of a boring end to the season and and what actually happened was quite the opposite. um The momentum went, we lost a couple of games, we suddenly were really struggling.
00:13:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
and And in the end we got over the line, um but we went over the line without very not very much momentum and then Enzo Marisca left. So actually this season in some ways is a bit of a clean slate, um which in some senses has probably been a good and a bad thing. um Initially, ah myself, along with lots of less fans, is quite negative um because I don't think people were particularly excited about Steve Cooper. I still think there's a bit of a negativity about Steve Cooper from from the Leicester fans to be honest. and People get on his back straight the way he certainly on social media. A little bit in the ground but more social media based as soon as we go 1-0 down or 2-0 down like we did on Saturday.
00:14:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Yeah I think it was a clean slate this season um and I'm probably now playing to our favourite because um we were a little bit more solid than I think we would have been under Maresca. Obviously the fact we've won the last two games really changes the attitude on another day though from being brutal and and honest the Bournemouth game we were a little bit fortunate they at the Woodward couple of times had a goal rule down and obviously Southampton we were 2-0 down it's a great comeback but we were 2-0 down so um the two wins have probably changed the perspective a little bit but yeah they're we haven't come into this season with the momentum we could have done but maybe the clean slate has helped us get to the position we are in
00:15:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
of recording today. um I'm just sort of hoping we can keep grinding out these results and staying in every single game. We've been in in every game and they've been closed games and I can't really ask for too much more than that as a promoted side.
00:15:14
Marley
Yeah, I've got three more questions.
00:15:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Go for it.
00:15:17
Marley
The first of those three is actually about the big man Steve Cooper. um How much of the criticism that he's already getting do you think is down to performances and results? But how much of it do you think is actually down to the fact that he's formerly of Nottingham Forest and he's got more to do to prove himself than most other managers would?
00:15:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah no i agree in that the the second part is yeah of course the forest things the forefront of people's minds uh it was right from the start um i think he's done a pretty good job of of moving that on actually i think he's possibly getting through that in that people aren't really talking about that anymore more it's not
00:15:46
Marley
yeah
00:15:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
so much of a thing but you're right he definitely will have to work harder to prove himself because he's ex-forest and the things that he achieved were not in forest. um But yeah it's more to do with tactical decisions, um substitutions for Talu who hasn't started for five six seven games now he only started the first two maybe to start the season and um he was great when he came off the bench on saturday but yeah that's really got fans frustrated that he's not starting and Cooper keeps insisting on playing ah for a while, mid-field three of winks skipping and DD, which just didn't have the creativity we wanted to see. Whereas at Southampton he actually went much more creative in Mavadidi, El Canusa when and Otto moved Touno down at half-time, so I think sometimes fans want to see you know really exciting attacking football but
00:16:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
you've got to have that balance and Cooper's trying to find that. um it ma Mainly the criticism I think at the moment is just tactical issues or substitutions and it's those elements at the moment.
00:17:00
Marley
Yeah, and from from someone who could be questioned as a former legend, or a current legend even, of a ah ah rival team, to someone who definitely isn't a legend of your rival team, and I hate to admit it, he's a definite legend to the Premier League as a whole, Jamie Vardy. um What sort of form is he in this season?

Leicester's Player Highlights and Tactical Issues

00:17:21
Marley
With his age creeping up on him, how long do you think he's got left at the top level, if he's got any time left at the top level?
00:17:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, i am everyone asks me about Jamie Vardy and it's I see it as like ah almost a privilege that I get to talk about him every week every week because um he's he's timeless in that he defies my expectations and my feeling around him every year. Every year, i sort of maybe I write him off too much and ah I think, oh, you know maybe this is the one. but ah He's got three goals so far, um he's always a threat, he will be a threat tomorrow. um he he just I don't know if some of that is psychological, definitely you can see defenders thinking about it. um He scored so many goals because his finishing is just fantastic. um
00:18:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
and he'll be 38 in January so um how many how many years he's got left I don't know this might be it then but you know what if if he chooses that this is his last season then no Leicester fans ever going to be we're just going to be upset and and disappointed that when he chooses to to finish um But he's he's a threat for sure and isn't he's not here um because it's the things he's done. He's here because he deserves to be and he deserves to be playing. and We wouldn't have got promoted last year without him. um He scored so many important goals then last season um and and maybe, you know, still a little bit of a concern that you know we were relying on a 37-year-old Jamie Vardy to get us up. But, as I say, he's in the team purely on ah merit at the moment and I think he will be all season.
00:19:00
Marley
Yeah, and before I go into my last question, which will be quite long worded, I would like to bring our wonderful viewers a bit of information about the platform we are recording this podcast on today. um Do you have a story that the world needs to hear? 00:19:52
Marley
and now onto the question which is probably more long worded and not if i'm completely honest
00:19:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Go for it.
00:19:58
Marley
is ah few years ago you won the premier league you' were in the champions league and you were chasing europe every year after that and then all of a sudden everything went wrong. What do you think it was that went wrong? Was it Brendan Rodgers as simple as that? Was it poor decisions with players example you sold Kasper Schmeichel and let's face it Danny Ward was a disaster or was it a mixture of it all?
00:20:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's it's not as it's not as simple to blame one factor because um for a club to go from two fifth place finishes, winning the f FA Cup, then finishing eighth, to then finishing 18th and get relegated, it can't be simple as simple as the manager or poor recruit recruitment, lack of money, um all of these things played apart, poor performances from players.
00:20:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
um In the end, i mean look we it was we've had time to reflect now because it's you know were well over a year since we went down, you know sort of 18 months now. I'm reflecting on it. um The feeling was going into that relegation season that probably Rodgers had maybe come to the end anyway. and We were expecting a load a load of new signings, which didn't happen.
00:21:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So that put a real negative atmosphere on the club. We started really poorly um and then actually got out of ah a rut. I think we won for the first seven games and then suddenly we went on this streak of clean sheets and wins and got to the World Cup.
00:21:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
and then after the world cup we just fell off a cliff that we never ever recovered from we lost silly games um one that always sticks in my mind was a game at home to Fulham not long after that we'd come back from the world cup where actually we had loads of chances we just couldn't score and it sort of was this theme of we'd concede silly poor goals and we if we didn't end up out i know it sounds really stupid to say oh obviously outscoring because that's football but like we'd have to outscore it we we couldn't win a game one nil because we'd never keep a clean sheet so um yeah so put some poor individual performances like danny ward danny namata brendan rogers i think brought a negative atmosphere around the club the fans brought a negative atmosphere to games um you know
00:21:51
Marley
Yeah.
00:22:07
Marley
um
00:22:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
when it was bad we did not help that but equally by that point we were sort of looking at ah the board and the players and obviously Brendan Rodgers to get us out of it and no one really inspired so yeah it was just a strange bizarre season where I think a combination of factors unfortunately meant that we ended up dropping down to the championship and look if we end up it's looking like we're not going to get a points deduction at the moment but let's say I'm still slightly apprehensive about that just because you're never quite knowing this league as far as knowing from last season but
00:22:51
Marley
Yeah.
00:22:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Even if even if I i personally look as I said, I'm not a big fan of forest However, I think your point suction last year was wrong um and like i I didn't agree with that ah for I thought the reason you were given a point suction was wrong and Everton's probably was over a little overly harsh um so I'm i'm not gonna say we're definitely not gonna get one yet because you never know but if we end up staying up this year don't get a points deduction maybe it'll be better for the club because we get to rebuild but we could have ended up getting stuck in the championship and that would have been the worst thing that could have happened to the club
00:23:27
Marley
Yeah.

Combined Team Debate: Forest and Leicester Players

00:23:29
Marley
Do you want to move on now to a preview of tomorrow, a bit of predictions and maybe a combined 11 of the Nottingham Forest and Leicester City, which could get juicy?
00:23:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah I tell you what we'll do I think we'll go straight to the combined 11 and we'll do that and then we'll do a little preview for tomorrow like a score prediction just to finish off so obviously combined 11 nice and easy ah you know before we discuss formation and things like that goalkeeper um Both goalkeepers, I'm assuming you're obviously going to pick Matt Sells and I'm going to pick Matt Hermanson from Leicester and as first choice for both this year. Both have been in great form for for each club. I really like Hermanson as a goalkeeper. um I think he's going to get a big move, unfortunately, in the future. um can you Can you persuade me that Sells is the man to go in the combined 11?
00:24:23
Marley
Yes, Hermanson has been quality, and I was going to say, if you're ever going to find replacement for Casper Schmeichel, I think the closest you might get is that a minute is Mad Hermanson. He's been very, very good. but Matt Sells has come into a forest team who, since selling Bryce Samba, we've not been able to agree with goalkeepers. Dean Henderson was good, but he couldn't do anything from long range as we learned again on Monday night. and Turner was a disaster. Lacadimos was a disaster. Sells has come into the team, and despite a bit of inconsistency, has
00:25:00
Marley
as we learned last night, especially, he's just been on fire. He's been making save after save after save. He can pull top draw saves out of his back pocket when needed and speaks for itself at ah one point in the injury to Courtois. He was starting for Belgium.
00:25:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he is a very good goalie and some of the saves he made at Chelsea when he danced at him were great. However, I'm, I'm, Hermanson's one of the few in here where I think I'm going to put my foot down a little bit because I think Hermanson, not just now, but his ceiling, I think he's going to be really, really good and he already is. um And he's obviously made the most saves in the Premier League because we give up a lot of shots. um ah So Hermanson's one ah I personally think should be him from Leicester. What are your thoughts on that?
00:25:44
Marley
Alright, simply because ah I think Leicester City need a bit of a pity vote here. I'll let you have Hermanson.
00:25:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
a bit of a pity vote that I'm hoping that might come back to bite you tomorrow but we'll say what formation because I was i just gonna say what formation would you you like to go for we normally pay like a four two three one yeah perfect
00:25:59
Marley
is
00:26:03
Marley
Who's... I'm pretty sure we both play the same sort of four, two, three, one, four across the back. two holding midfielders and attacking midfielders two innings and a striker isn't it?
00:26:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah yeah perfect that's that's yeah um without going into the the tactical tweaks uh too much yeah we yeah i agree that's how we play as well so that makes it nice and simple so so write back talk to me what you're thinking in it right back
00:26:29
Marley
Right back I'm going to put forward Hola Aina who has got many many qualities he's an incredible defender He can whip a good cross in and let's not forget his pace is electric last season. and Everyone saw that he outpaced Kyle Walker on raw speed at the city grounds. So, Ola Ena is going forward from me.

yet You know what, to be honest, obviously've see we talked about James Justin and I didn't talk about it very positively, so I'm not actually going to fight that one. I really like Ina as well. um ah He's obviously played his left back as well, so he's he's incredibly versatile.
00:27:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
um um Yeah, i'm I'm happy with Ina, unfortunately, right back. Centre backs, I'm assuming you're going to put Balenkovic and Murillo forward, as you mean to.
00:27:16
Marley
Milankovitch and Marillo. Do I need to try and justify them?
00:27:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah well Milankovitch yeah for sure yeah no no I agree I'm i'm happy with Milankovitch for sure because um he's the one um um um go on because I'm not sure you can
00:27:22
Marley
Milankovitch speaks for himself. Massive Serb. Very, very solid. I don't think there's much of an argument.
00:27:33
Marley
I'm assuming I can guess the man you're going to choose to counter Marillo. I'm guessing Voutfast. I'm guessing Voutfast.
00:27:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, actually, because Faz is OK, but I'm not. He's OK, but I don't think he's better than Morello. However, the one I would put forward, I really like.
00:27:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
he's He's still very early days for us. He's a Coley, who people obviously won't have seen me very much of. I quite like him. um So I would put
00:28:04
Marley
The thing with your centre backs is, Valtfast is one of the top scorer and centre backs in the Premier League, just not in the correct net.
00:28:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Yeah, that's why i'm not I wouldn't put him forward.
00:28:15
Marley
And Caleb, Caleb Ocoly and Marillo are very similar, they're both new to top football, they're both inexperienced, they're both young. I think the main difference is, Marillo is a bit more experienced, having already spent the season, he's got flair as well,
00:28:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:28:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:28:33
Marley
You saw his ball rolls it in his dribble against Chelsea and against him against Crystal Palace last season. You've seen in his long range shots, kind of with Rode and White Hart Lane. and just the On Monday, against Newcastle, he got an assist.
00:28:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
his long-range passing, his long-range passing for me.
00:28:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
um but yeah but For me, yeah um I am happy with Marillo in there. Coley, I do want to mention, because I do really like him.
00:28:49
Marley
And on Monday, he did a roulette on Eddie Nketia.
00:28:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think he has, again, and potential to grow. But yeah, Marillo, he's left foot passing, a real asset. um Left back, ah we've got Victor Christensen. who was on loan at Bologna last year, again he's quite young, ah in the Premier League hasn't played lots and lots of games, but did really really well for Bologna last season, has been generally pretty solid for us um overall, um as I say it's been more our issues down the right side, um who are you putting forward for left back from Nighting Forest?
00:29:28
Marley
As much as I love Harry Toffolo, I think I'm going to put forward Deloni from Aston Villa, Alex Moreno, obviously helped them qualify for the Champions League last season.
00:29:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:29:40
Marley
He signed for them from Real Betis, he's come on loan towards this season, not young by any stretch of the imagination, but he's been quality. He He gave Salah an extremely hard game when we went to Anfield and he's just, he's looked absolutely insane. He's looked quality and massive, massive improvement on Aina down the left and Aina's looked much better on the right, I'd say. And I thought it was hard to improve on Aina, but somehow we've done it. So I really rate Moreno. I'm going to throw him in there.
00:30:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think actually I'm going to give you Moreno as well. because And then in truth, you know, Forrester built where they are off of their good defence, where we've kept one clean sheet all season.
00:30:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think itll be ah ah think it would be unfair of me to start putting forward lots and lots of Forrester.
00:30:23
Marley
in In a few seasons, I think Christiane will definitely be a very good shout, but that is in a few years when he's grown a bit more.
00:30:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:30:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. And I think, um, Moreno, I liked a lot of Villa. Um, he's obviously, I think possibly can be a little inconsistent would be my only criticism. However, also I could say that with Victor Christianson. So no, I'm i'm okay with Moreno going in. Um, and I think having a full forest back for probably reflects where you are, um, in the table based on those clean sheets. So moving on to the well two, the two holding midfielders try and do it sort of as one, um, who are you putting forward from forest?
00:31:01
Marley
um So for Nottingham Forest, it is difficult because we've got very a lot of very good midfielders. Obviously, I could put forward Danilo, but I won't because this season obviously broke his ankle after 18 minutes of the season.
00:31:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm.
00:31:16
Marley
So we've not seen much of him this year. um I won't put forward a big money sign in Sangare. I think it's for me between Yates, Elliot Anderson and James Ward-Prowse. And I'm very sorry, James, but I'm going with Ryan Yates and Elliot Anderson.
00:31:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
hi um i mean I think Ryan Yates is such ah an example of you a player that works so hard, attitude's fantastic, and lifts the team, lifts the fans, um even if maybe technically he's not quite there.
00:31:44
Marley
for may For me, for me, he is. For me, he is, as I said on a podcast of the other week, the perfect club captain for us. He's one of our own. and He knows the club inside out. He's got the right mentality. He's humble enough. He's got quality. He's got very ah bags of quality. And he knows how to do the dirty work that other players don't like doing. And for that reason, if you type his name into Twitter, after we've picked up a ah scrappy point, you'll be very entertained.
00:32:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
if um so So I'm putting, from Lester we've we've got a few different options in terms of Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp, Wilford and Dee Dee. I think if I was doing it I would have thought Wilford and Dee Dee, and if you put in Elliott Anderson as a DM, which obviously It's a little bit difficult because he probably wants to pay further forward. I would be happy with Wilfred indeed in Anderson as the two, but it depends whether you'd rather have Yates in there. ah It's going to be hard putting Anderson in further forward because of who I'm suspecting you're going to put in as the number 10.
00:32:45
Marley
Yeah, I think I'll go with Anderson over Yates just because Anderson is the Jordy Maradona, but he can't only do it at 10. He can do it eight as well. We've seen that throughout the season. He got our play with a month playing in the eight role, and then we put him at 10 and he's shown even more quality.
00:32:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:33:01
Marley
So what I'm expecting to see in the coming weeks is the guy I'm putting forward in the 10 role, who I'll come to in a minute, rotating with him in the next few games and kind of having one as an eight, one as a 10, and then he drops deeper and Anderson pushes forward again.
00:33:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:33:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
year. Yeah, I'm quite happy with it. Indeed, I'm picking that he's got quite a number of assists this year, which is new and different for him. um But indeed, he has started pretty well. um He sort of played a bit further forward. He's probably played further forward than Anderson has so far this season, which is strange to say, considering that the type of players they are. But yeah, that's where we are. So right winger next.
00:33:40
Marley
ah We're not doing 10 first and then the wingers.
00:33:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh oh sorry yeah yeah can do if you want so number 10 which ah I think I know you're gonna say Morgan Gibbs white
00:33:50
Marley
I'm unsure if there's a contest for him, if I'm honest.
00:33:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I'm trying to think of one very quickly.
00:33:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Buena Notte, but yeah, El Canis is far too early for me to start chucking that out of there. Buena Notte, if I wanted to to say in the 10, but to be honest, Buena Notte is playing more off the right for us.
00:33:57
Marley
el cano
00:34:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I'm just going to concede Gibbs White because, yeah.
00:34:09
Marley
Yeah, he's looked like the wing of his season and ah i'll be I do rape when I not tell you a lot. I rated him back when he was at Brighton. I think his first prem game was against Forrest.
00:34:21
Marley
He scored after Kayla Navas sloppily spilt the ball into his path. I've rated him ever since then, but give white surely.
00:34:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Yeah, no I agree with Gibbs White.
00:34:32
Marley
Needs no explanation.
00:34:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think another another easy one ah for me left winger is is Callum Hudson or Doy.
00:34:39
Marley
Yeah.
00:34:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm assuming you're not going to disagree. Yeah, we've we've got Stephanie Mavididi who again actually is doing okay. um but I think Hudson and Doy, especially this season and and the back end of last year, um got some really important goals. So, ah yeah, i've again, i'm I'm happy with Hudson and Doy in there and and moving swiftly on. So, yeah, right winger. And we've got... Buena Notti has played most of our games and been really good. We've also got Abdul Fattawi, who might play tomorrow and we might move Buena Notti inside. um Both really good shouts. And and you've got Anthony Alanga, anyone else you want to play out there from the right side?
00:35:13
Marley
Yes, there is. We've got Ramon Sosa, youngster from Paraguay who I'm not putting in now.
00:35:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:35:19
Marley
I just wanted to mention his name because I absolutely love him and rate him highly. Elanga, the Manchester United youngster, bought him for 15 million. Last year, he shone a lot. He was very, very good.
00:35:29
Marley
His pace is difficult for anyone to manage, really, um especially when you've got him running the more experienced centre backs in the Premier League, like Dan Byrne, who had a very hard time against him.
00:35:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:35:41
Marley
um But he's been a bit off the form so far this season. He's shown his quality, but he's not had the end product. The player I really want to throw out there, though, is someone who, just like Alango, has got pace and has quality.
00:35:56
Marley
But this player will take him on a bit better than Alanga and I think his final product is a bit better than Alanga's as well. And it's Giotto Silva who we brought him from Victoria de Gomash in Portugal in the summer.
00:36:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ooh, yeah.
00:36:08
Marley
I rate him very highly. I think when he gets a few starts on the wing he will show that he has bags of quality.
00:36:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Interesting shout. For for me to to go into our 11, I would pick Buena Notte, not just based on, obviously he's played well for Brighton, he's now come to us, he's started really well, he's but he's playing he's literally playing for Argentine and getting some caps. um For me, Buena Notte has to be in there.
00:36:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:36:36
Marley
i'll i'll I'll put what I'm not saying.
00:36:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
and he yeah um which which leaves which leaves obviously the striker which is going to be interesting because yeah you're right as we've mentioned Chris Wood is is in really really good form this season um and he stopp and he was good at the end of last season in fairness um obviously we've got Jamie Vardy and and there's note we haven't got anyone else really to chuck in there as Dak has injured not a massive fan of him anyway Edward hasn't really played many games again
00:36:40
Marley
Yeah, what I'm not saying, I write it.
00:37:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
I wouldn't chuck out there realistically. So we've got Jamie Vardy, you've got Chris Wood, um who's ex-Lester, of course. Thoughts on the battle between those two?
00:37:18
Marley
Well, Vardy and Wood are very interesting because there's nothing to separate them in my opinion and at times. Jamie Vardy is a man who is a Premier League great.
00:37:30
Marley
He is, i as much as I hate to admit it, he's got like, is it the longest game streak of scoring in Premier League history?
00:37:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
11 in a row, yeah.
00:37:37
Marley
He's got bags and bags of quality, but is he slowing down a bit with age? Will he What his skull scoring seemed to like hit a stale end now because he's getting on a bit. His athleticism will be hit. He might hunger, get hit by just doing it for so long at the top level. However, Chris, what I feel is a bit of the opposite. He started out not the greatest. He hit a bit of form at Burnley. Newcastle, he was all right. He came to us, was horrible.
00:38:07
Marley
got one goal against Man City and all of a sudden he's changed his fortunes and with age he just seems to be getting better at that poacher position. Every time the ball comes in into him you think there's a goal coming, he looks really deadly.
00:38:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
hmm yeah
00:38:18
Marley
I guess it just depends on when we're going off really. Overall I can't split them. If we're going off all time I'd put Vardy in. If we're going off current form I'd be tempted to stick with Wood.
00:38:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah i think i've been i've gone mainly on on current for the team if i'm honest um which doesn't you know really speak in body's favor however i i agree and even now despite you know woods having a ah good season there isn't much between them um and it it to me it feels wrong to not have a combined 11 that doesn't have Jamie Vardy in there because because he is still playing he is still scoring and um and and it's it does seem a bit of shame actually not to have wood in there as well because he he has done really well this season he is a really important part of how you've been playing ah but I think I would like to see Jamie Vardy end up in there um because I think there's still not much to separate them if you really look to them despite Vardy's age
00:39:16
Marley
Yeah, so from that we've got, in case you want to make any last minute adjustments, mad term answered in goal. a back four of Alex Moreno, Nikola Milankovic, Murillo and Ola Aina, a midfield of Wilfred Ndidi, Elliot Anderson and Morgan Gives-White, and a front three of Callum Ndoy, Vakundo Buena Nossi and Jamie Varney.
00:39:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah wonder um I wonder what listeners are going to think to that. We've got one, two, three. So four Leicester players, am I right in saying? And then, yes, seven from Nottingham Forest.
00:39:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
and and And certainly that back four of all Forest really just tell the story of your season so far um in terms of that solid defence.
00:39:52
Marley
Yeah.
00:39:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK, so we'll we'll finish off very briefly. um We've talked about, you know, what we're we're thinking sort of tactically we're doing a command 11 and what's your score prediction for tomorrow night's game?

Game Predictions: Forest vs Leicester

00:40:07
Marley
So my score prediction for tomorrow is, um well, here's the thing. I think the story of tomorrow night will be the story of both team seasons so far combined, if I'm honest. I think beginning of the game will be this season. It's been for us very much score first and hang on. Yours has been very much concede first and try and fight back into the game. So I think it's written in the stars that we will score first and goal scorer as well is the man who seems to turn into prime R9 every time he plays his former team, Chris Wood.
00:40:38
Marley
he's He's guaranteed to score.
00:40:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah he does and i yeah okay and finish one now
00:40:40
Marley
Hatrick against Newcastle. Brace against Burnley. Scored at Brighton. He's bound to score. So it would have opened it. Our solid defence will mean that you...
00:40:53
Marley
No. Our solid defence will mean you really struggle to get back into the game. You'll have a few half chances. A really big chance which Vardy will miss because Matt The Sales will pull out a signature. Amazing save.
00:41:05
Marley
And I think later on in the game, Callum Winston and Doyle produced a moment of magic after the chance was created by Ramon Sosa using his pace off a bench and he'll whip one into the top corner and I think we'll win 2-0.
00:41:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
I like the detail, I like the detail and the thought of it. To be honest, I agree in that I think you're going to score because we've only kept one clean sheet all season and also the fact that Chris Wood, when he played for Burnley and when he was playing for Newcastle, scored against us and he tends to like to score against his former clubs, including us. So with his form it seems, yeah, written that he will score. I think if I was being realistic and you know trying to be balanced and given honest score prediction trying to actually be right i think i'd go for a 1-1 draw because i mean it could be a really tight game um however we've won two in a row and i want to be optimistic and say that i think we're going to nick it 2-1 and we're going to probably go 1-0 down and just find a way back into the game
00:42:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
um because yeah I think only twice this season we've scored the first goal so the thought that Wood will score and you'll go 1-0 seems quite likely hopefully we I'm wrong about that or we're wrong about that you know I'm hoping but yeah I'm gonna go for I'm gonna go for my realistic and go 1-1 because I think you'll be a tight game um between two sides that probably maybe will end up being a little bit cagey we'll see maybe end up being a really fiery affair where both teams go for it yeah you never know um
00:42:21
Marley
Yeah.
00:42:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Any other thoughts or anything else you want to say before we finish off?
00:42:40
Marley
Not really. I think we've covered most things.
00:42:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, no, I agree. and Thank you very much, Marley, for joining me. and If there's any less to ah Leicester listeners who who suddenly have taken an interest in Forest or want to go over to Daily Forest, please do, or get involved on the socials with Daily Forest, especially in and around the game.
00:42:47
Marley
Very welcome.
00:43:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
and But yeah, that that's everything from us. as I say get involved with the socials and hope everyone enjoys the game tomorrow night not maybe not forest quite so much but yeah hopefully it'll be in an entertaining clash for for everyone to see um and yeah you can join us again whenever daily forest and daily lester next upload thank you for listening
