00:06:18

00:06:40
Speaker
fantastic goal oh but um but everything is fantastical Oh, bitch tits. Am I still here? All right, cool. Yeah, you're still here. All right, for the third time, everything is fantastical. This weekend, we celebrated my wife's birthday yesterday. um We celebrated my daughter's birthday on three days before that.
00:07:09
Speaker
um ah so ah so Well, because secondly, we had her birthday party last week or the weekend before this. And yeah her birthday was actually on Friday. And then Nikki's was on Sunday. So yesterday, it was it was a bit here there and everywhere. I was just trying to keep the kids out of the out of my wife's hair.
00:07:33
Speaker
you know, do all that fun stuff. Kennedy's back to being at home full time with me. So I've got a little more, a little more stuff taken care of while I'm at home. I'm starting up school soon. Yeah.
00:07:48
Speaker
me yeah Other than that, nothing too crazy. Although just found out today from, from Ally that we have what we thought we had like three car payments left.
00:08:02
Speaker
Turns out we have one car payment left, but we have to cover the final balance this is a little over a thousand dollars. I was like What happens if we just wait three months to or what happens if we just continue making payments for those three Last three months. They were like, well, it'll go to collections. Oh sweet Sweet so don't understand why that's a thing but wait a minute Yeah. Hold on a second. So, you make it. You have one. I don't know. You're about to ask me and the answer is I have no **** clue why because my wife's the one who called him and the answer was I don't know it. Yeah, they don't make a whole lot of sense like I'm paying. I have one payment left and I'm paying the car off yet you're still saying I owe you a thousand dollars. So, we owe a thousand dollars.
00:08:55
Speaker
fucking truck using in his tree Fucking down the main street here, um we have a thousand dollars left on the loan. So we figured we had another like two, three more payments to take care of it, or maybe even four, hell, I don't know. And you know, it was going to be paid off in like January. And then we got a notice from them today that said we needed to pay it off by our normal due date, but we have the entire final balance, which is ah another four months of car payments in one car payment.
00:09:25
Speaker
And if we don't pay it off by the end of the month, then it goes to collections. And this is legitimate. It's from Ally. We called, we called Ally. We were like, Hey, what's up? And they were like, this is why, or this is what's going on. And I guess Nikki didn't get an answer as to why. Yeah, it doesn't, it doesn't, I don't, man, I don't know. It doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense at all. No, no it really doesn't. know Listen, listen, I'm, but, um but I don't, I mean, it's away from a mass shooting. All right. That's all I'm saying. I'm down. call mine Um, I mean, i I've dealt with, i don't do it I'm just gonna, yeah I mean, I've dealt with ally in the past. I've, I've had parlance through that. i And, uh,
00:10:19
Speaker
I wouldn't do it again because they were always up to some shifty shit. I mean, see my last two car loans I've been through so we have my two car loans. Yeah. My last two car loans have been through a credit capital one. how do i have Capital one's pretty pretty good. they yeah They do a decent job and the customer service is actually really good.
00:10:46
Speaker
Surprisingly their customer service. Yeah capital one their customer service is phenomenal, man. I have been Like they almost have a give a fuck like they have a hope to get I've no more bucks to give five bucks. Oh run a truck Yeah yeah there's no more but I, yeah, I've been, I've been really happy with credit one or capital. Um, no, I had, I had a couple of cars with allies and it was, you I just didn't, customer service wasn't the greatest. I didn't like the way they did things. Um, actually I tried to give a car back for like six months and then they threatened to, I don't know, it was a whole ordeal. It was like, um,
00:11:41
Speaker
They were going to press charges and blobbyh blah, blah, blah, taking me to court and everything else. And I was like, Hey, it's a contact to the lawyer. And I said, there's the last six months of me telling them where the car is. The car hasn't moved. Tell them to come and get it and everything else. And they flat out refused. And then they tried to be sneaky one night, like coming at like two o'clock in the morning and my neighbor and I were sitting ah out on the porch. Yeah. a repo like And my neighbor and I were sitting out on the porch drinking.
00:12:10
Speaker
fucking ten ju driver bowled up and I was like, what's up? He's like, uh, I'm looking for a card. I'm like, yeah, probably mine. I said, but, uh, let me get my stuff out of it. And then the guy tried to get an attitude with me and my neighbor's like, Oh, you're about to beat your ass.
00:12:30
Speaker
What's up, Ben? like be I was like, look, dude, I've been trying to get this car back for like six months because the thing was, it wasn't that I couldn't afford it. It just, I wasn't driving. It was when I first moved to South Carolina. Yeah. And I started working for Orkin. I'm sitting here paying on a car, paying insurance and a car payment on a car that made no sense because it sat and You know, I was just told him like, Hey, come and get it. Uh, I'm not going to make any more payments on it. And I didn't want to come get it. So, um, Oh, I wish I would have known what I, you know, what I knew later on down the road then, cause I had another car that I just took the carbacks and like they paid it off. And I walked out of that place with three grand. They bought my car for me and paid it off. and And then I, I still walked out with three grand in my pocket.
00:13:22
Speaker
See, I don't love Carmax because I know that they low ball because they have to resell, but if you're just trying to get cash for your car and like get it done, you're usually in and out of Carmax pretty quick. Well, ah you know, I'm sorry about my Equinox at, uh, wasn't at Carmax. Um, they paid off my, my cruise. Um, I got a $300 check.
00:13:48
Speaker
And they, and they, they, I told them where I wanted to keep my payments at. They actually came in under where I wanted my payments to be at. And that included added a adding a seven year extended bumper to bumper warranty on it. Yeah. Um, so I, I, I, I had pretty good experience with them. I bought my, my cruise from drive time, nothing against drive time. They were awesome. They were, they, those guys, maybe that dealership in Charleston, they were awesome. But yeah, Carmax, uh, you know, twice I've you know, I sold one car and then I traded in another and they, they did me good. So, uh, I'll go back. Uh, you know, when I go to trade in my Equinox, I'll go back to him. Yeah. Well, what about you? How's your week been nerd busy last, last. So, so we, we did the math on Saturday. I think I'm on my.
00:14:47
Speaker
tenth 10th day of podcasting in a row right now. Jesus. Uh, by Wednesday I'll have 12 straight days of podcasting, then I'll get a little break on Thursday and then I'll be right back into it on Friday. Uh, cause Friday we're doing, instead of doing Cassius Cassius corner on Thursday, we're going to do it Friday when he comes home. Um, because Saturday's the pay per view. So we're going to do our picks and stuff. And on top of that, I've added.
00:15:15
Speaker
two more shows onto my plate. So yeah, see we just need to get you making money from the podcast business so that you can just do this full time. I agree 100%. I agree. I would love to monetize. We need about 200 more followers on YouTube. So follow us on YouTube, guys. yeah what you Please do. Please do. I think I think we need 500 followers on YouTube. We've reached the other requirements.
00:15:46
Speaker
The other one is is very easily attainable. um But yeah, I mean, um so yeah, I mean, i I would love to monetize this and just start doing it full time. The only downside is that it would have to cover all my bills and stuff. So but so I added two more shows. We're week four into the football show, which we're having we're having a blast doing that. The NFL kickoff show, we make our picks and predictions.
00:16:16
Speaker
Uh, I got Derek Edwards on there with me or Derek Edwards, Derek, Derek Wayne, Douglas, uh, former guest of Glitz House of Music. He's my co-host on there. Yeah. And then, uh, Rick and Cam come in. So we're having fun doing that. Sorry. I was thinking the Beetlejuice film. oh we've never seen be Oh, yeah. We're having a lot. We're having a lot of fun with that show. Um, I got a really much like all the other shows, man. I got a really good group of guys around me and, uh,
00:16:45
Speaker
We're just having fun doing it. And then I am starting to do reviews and reactions to um songs and and albums that my former guest of Glick's House. So it's like a spinoff of Glick's House of Music. I'll just do that like every other Friday. um Last week I did James Luker's album, not this Friday, but the following Friday. I'll probably do Derek's album. And if I don't have an album to review, I'll just waiting for artists to put out some new music. and
00:17:22
Speaker
when when they I'll just gather a bunch of songs and come on and and do reactions and reviews to the new songs. But um yeah, other than that, I mean, work, podcasting. Nikki's starting to make her shirts. She got her heat press out today, so she's learning how to use that.
00:17:46
Speaker
squa She'll uh she'll be starting up her little side business. Hopefully it won't be a little for long. um
00:17:55
Speaker
Start making money out Mark. You really can do this full time. Yeah, right. ah However, this weekend I did discover my closet was flooded. So I spent uh I spent uh three hours with the uh carpet shampoo in there sucking water up only to realize Uh, by Sunday, it was sopping wet again. So we had to have maintenance come in today. Nikki went over and put it in a work order. They came over today. They said they found the problem. It's not from us. it's It's not from anything in our apartment. I think it's one of the neighbors. Um, but, um, we have serve pro or somebody coming in tomorrow to dry everything out. I noticed that there's already.
00:18:41
Speaker
mold on the wall on the drywall. So they're probably going to have to cut that out and get everything dry and fucked. So, uh, yeah, she probably will down the road. She probably will do some, uh, shirts binge, but we have, you know, we have the merch store benja and everything, and everything is spelled correctly. We have quality over quantity on our shirts and hats. And some of ah but the proceeds go toward a veteran's podcasts.
00:19:13
Speaker
that It's no, no foundation or anything. There are a lot of veterans on the show. there yeah conor We might as well be our own foundation here. ah we We can make money as a non-profit. Yeah, right. um But yeah, some stuff that we can't do on the merch store. Yeah, yeah so do I. So do I in all honesty, at least. Ben, sorry. I do that too, too, all the time.
00:19:40
Speaker
um
00:19:44
Speaker
I think I, you know, some of the stuff that we can't make on the merch store, like, you know, like actual, like our actual logos and shit like that. I think we're going to try to get, um, designs and stuff for them. And then we'll throw them on shirts because the heat press I got her, um, it does shirts, hats and, uh, mugs or cups. They can do up to a 32 ounce mug or tumbler like this. oh yeah yeah Um, and I can even do the leather.
00:20:13
Speaker
It can even do the leather on the on the hats. Oh, shit. So that would be that would be awesome. she nonsense Leather patch her hat. Yeah, I want to get one. But yeah, I need to go to the merch store because ah she made hats a week or two back. She made hats for the merch store and they actually they look great. I love them.
00:20:40
Speaker
And just ah another little plug here, because we might as well. Where can we find this stuff at? Glickeroonie? The merch on the merch store. Where can you find that?
00:20:54
Speaker
You can simply go to bio dot.link slash nonsense school nonsense. It is there or you can go right here. Nonsense school dash nonsense.myspreadshop.com. Dot com.
00:21:09
Speaker
I don't know. I don't know how to do any of that. I don't even know what the hell the nightbot is. I don't know. I've never heard of it. Oh, **** We do have hats. Yo.
00:21:21
Speaker
um So, but yeah, man, I'll tell you that. Yeah, we have we have fitted. We have flex fit and we have the trucker style caps as well.
00:21:39
Speaker
Uh, yeah, today at work was on Monday. Tomorrow's going to be another Monday. Of course we came in from all the rain and everything and roof leaks and ACs aren't working. And then we were at our window washers there for their monthly or quarter or every other month window cleaning. And you know, my buildings are seven stories, so they have to bring in a lift. And apparently the guys hit a Johnson controls van in the lift. I don't know. It was a.
00:22:09
Speaker
It was a mess this morning and it's going to be a madhouse again tomorrow and I'm just like. um
00:22:19
Speaker
Yeah. we're i'm I'm glad that I'm not working right around. ball break What is fall break? That's a fucking thing. I mean, but, uh, yeah, but I mean, I mean, honestly, nothing to complain about, man. Uh, you know, things are going good. Um,
00:22:38
Speaker
busy as I'll get out. Uh October 19th. I don't know if it's in here and it might have gotten deleted out of the other brand. Uh anybody in the NERC area or anybody that wants to make a road trip and come to NERC Blaze and I will be back again at Buckeye Axe Throwing for their Halloween party which is a glow party.
00:23:08
Speaker
Uh, we will be live there. There will be live music by Jordan Reese. And, uh, there'll be, I think they're gonna be doing giveaways and everything else. And Blaze and I will be there in matching costume. Blaze and I are twinning it up on for the glow party. What size t-shirt are you getting? Uh, probably 2x. 2x. I think I would get away with a 1x.
00:23:39
Speaker
I'll probably do a two X T shirt and a three X hoodie. You sure you can get away with a one X level? Yeah, I was part of the part of the problem is I'm i'm starting to drop weight again. Uh, actually 250.
00:23:57
Speaker
Nice. It is not like a Diddy blow party. Although it is not a free coffee. It is not a free coffee.
00:24:09
Speaker
Um, yeah, starting to lose a little bit of weight again. So, on yeah um, I normally always go, I normally always go to X because, you know, as we've spoke before, I'm built like a silverback gorilla. So my chest and shoulder area is bigger than anything else. So I need the extra room. Um, and then I just like hoodies big. I mean, who doesn't love a nicer ever sized hoodie in the cold. Right.
00:24:39
Speaker
Nope.
00:24:43
Speaker
No way, dude. I'm going to have to go through my cart here in a minute and decide what I want to actually get versus what what I shouldn't. Yeah, we're going to get stuff for the kid. Nikki said I'm doing all my Christmas shopping on the merch store this year. Mom and dad are getting stuff. The kids are all getting stuff. I'm not even joking.
00:25:06
Speaker
See the tumblers and the coffee mugs, dude. Absolutely. Well, actually, fucking coffee. Nice, I guess. Well, no i'm um'm um I think that's the other thing that's that's that's benefiting my mood. Not that I've been in it. It's not very often that I'm in a bad mood these days. I mean, yeah.
00:25:31
Speaker
people what People upset me like you know I was upset with Jeff a little bit, not like nothing nothing major, nothing serious. I was just a little bit upset with him. I got over it pretty quick. But I think it's the other thing because I i am back in the gym on a regular basis.
00:25:45
Speaker
um so um I think I'm already starting to lose a little bit of weight, which you know my my goal is 250, 260 right around that range. it's like my yeah That's like my prime weight. i I look my best around that. If I get too much below 250, I start to look sick. But I was up in the 320 range. So i certain i was I was starting to look. that That was not helping my mood when I would walk past a mirror or something like that. it's just like look at that **** disgusting fat piece of **** in the If I'm not lifting, my ideal weights right around right around 210 and if I am lifting, it'd probably be set more around 220, 215. Uh I was up to 292 at one point after my first set of surgeries and that's the most I've ever weighed in my life. It's **** I was disgusted by myself but I couldn't well, I mean, no, I'm not even not working out.
00:26:46
Speaker
Yeah. When I was in high school, when I was in high school, I was like three something, but I was active and you know, I was active. So I wasn't fat. I was built. I wasn't, I didn't look like John Cena or anything like that, but I was solid. Yep. wow Um, and then as I got older, that you know, everything else, but yeah, like that ideal weight range is like right around two 52 60. If I'm in the gym, maybe tone up a little bit, then I'll be, uh,
00:27:16
Speaker
speaking of side adventures, I'll be getting more into that too. That was the other thing. Then I was just too insecure with the way I looked. I'm like, there's no way in hell I'm putting it. get on a So yeah, maybe, maybe eventually down the road with the side projects and the podcast, you know, I'll be making enough money and I can walk into work one day and be like deuces. I'm tired of the, I'm tired of the two hour round trip drive. I'm tired I'm tired.
00:27:46
Speaker
I'm tired of you being my like my bosses are actually really cool. I'm tired of you, you stupid ass bitch. Fuck you, I quit. but the No, I mean to have you doing this full time. I mean, you already do almost a show a fucking a show a day. Which is a bit a bit insane.
00:28:14
Speaker
And I would would love to take this show from you, but I'm just not there. And I know that you've got other shows that are like your fucking baby and do this fucking, this, this whole network's your baby. So it's, it's right for you to be in it. It's still that first five years. You're still, you're still in the grinding phase, but not as long. No, no, I don't think it will because you know, we're, we're growing every day and You know, yeah, I mean, this whole network's my baby. This thing is a dream of mine. I've said it before, this is me chasing a dream. And if I fail, I fail, but at least I failed trying. And I don't believe I'm going to fail. I don't, I don't believe I'm going to fail. Uh, you know, there's a lot of people that are in my corner now, a lot of people that are supporting us, um, just from, you know, people I've met from doing the interviews. I absolutely love doing my music show.
00:29:14
Speaker
Um, that, that is, that is so fun for me and it's right in my wheelhouse. Um, but, uh, you know, I think we'll get there. Like I said, you know, my goal is, and I know it's probably a little far fetched and it might sound crazy to others, but my goal is to have my, namet my name mentioned or this network named, uh, right along the sides of like the likes of Joe Rogan and other famous podcasters, you know, like.
00:29:42
Speaker
the network or me or whatever. Uh, Ben, uh, Chris did a report. We got a pizza. Yeah. Benji, you come across like, uh, like a littler guy, not like, not like little little, but definitely smaller than, than, than me. I couldn't. So how tall are you, Benji? Uh, yeah, you can't tell if you're having fun. I'm having a ball.
00:30:07
Speaker
I mean, I love doing the shows, you know, whether it's Monday night or, you know, and we'll get to the point, Connor, where you're ready to take over. And that's what I told you. I'll be here until you're ready to take over and you and you don't need me around anymore. And even then, I'll still pop in and be a part of the show from time to time. Yeah, I just, yeah, see that makes that makes that way a little more acceptable. That's so, that's horribly skinny for me. and Yeah. Oh, what did you imagine me? When I was in Korea, I weighed 195.
00:30:36
Speaker
I haven't weighed that little that little since I was in high school. But you were also kind of, you were also built in Korea. When you were in Korea, you were... Oh, yeah. When I was in Korea, I was working out twice a day, and but I was eating whatever I wanted. I'd lift in the mornings and run in the afternoons or run in the mornings and lift in the afternoons. And then I'd do PT throughout the day with the guys at work and pull ups and sit ups. And I was a fucking, I was a PT God while I was in Korea, but not so much anymore.
00:31:05
Speaker
I think one of the biggest things I think one of the biggest things that's helped me too is I've cut back on on drinking and I've cut back on how much pop I drink. I drink a lot. I went and bought me one of those. I finally found it. The circle tumbler, the 40 ounce circle. Yeah. We put the little flavor pod in the top of it. They finally restocked him at Walmart. And Nicki told me and I was like, I'm going to get one right now because they're going to sell out, you know, like they're going to fucking sell out again.
00:31:34
Speaker
So I did, I ran up to Walmart and I grabbed one. Uh, I drink the hell out of that. I've been drinking a lot of water lately. Um, so yeah, I mean, a lot of, a lot of things going on, you know, um, that, uh, I can't, I can't complain about, man. And, you know, I know, I know there's some people out there that are not happy about it. Um, but I'm also working on mending bridges that need to be mended. Uh, not all bridges will be mended, but, um, I'm working on the ones that need to be mended.
00:32:05
Speaker
Benji, that's a big, that's a big one. Cutting out soda cuts so much sugar from your diet or aspartame if you like diet drinks. Just diet drinks aren't any better for you than if I can pull sugar sodas. But yeah, no, cutting out soda, I've done that a couple of times and just did water or lemon water. And then usually I cut alcohol out too, just because if I can cut water,
00:32:33
Speaker
Yeah, I can't just drink just water though. That's the thing. It's boring and a lot of like, like as much as I love liquid Ivy, I can't sit there and drink for, you know, I can't drink 190 ounces of liquid Ivy a day. Cause that's, you can't, you, you can't drink that much electrolytes and shit like that. Plus seen some of those, like, there's like this, like the Skittle stuff or the, the, the, um,
00:33:00
Speaker
crush like mix in powders that make the flavor your water. Some of them are just so sweet. Yeah, I see my wife likes to use those a lot. And Benji on what you said, I have tried to go without caffeine before. And I just I feel terrible. I made it I made it three months, made it three months. And then I had a cup of coffee. And I was like, nope, I'm going back to this.
00:33:24
Speaker
yeah like no i did It makes me feel better throughout the day because I got to a point where I was drinking black coffee for like three years straight and now I'm back to the point where I like i like sugar in my coffee. but like Coffee has actually a lot of benefits for you and the right amount of caffeine as long as you're not abusing it just like anything else you know can actually be can i actually be good for you. Good for your brain, good for your body, good at stimulating your
00:33:52
Speaker
something. But I'm not ah I'm not a PT guru or a or anything like that. So I'm not gonna pretend to know everything. But I fucking love coffee. And I went from drinking six plus pops a day to now I drink like two. Yeah.
00:34:12
Speaker
yeah
00:34:14
Speaker
I know that. Like when I was a kid, my parents told me not to not to drink caffeine because i they said I had ADHD. But apparently now they're coming out with like studies and shit that say that a little bit of caffeine, like the amount of caffeine that's in one twelve and twelve ounce soda is enough to actually help people people with ADHD focus and actually take their brain and and pinpoint it on one singular thing at a time.
00:34:45
Speaker
Uh, but if you go much over that and caffeine, then you end up with the the negative side effects where you just feel jittery. And that obviously doesn't help ADHD years or what a neuro divergent as my wife calls them. Uh, but anyway, you know how to use big fancy words, wavy. Yeah. I learned them from my wife. She's the smart one, dude. I haven't, I haven't. Have a I almost have an associate's degree, but that's all based off of military training. I don't know if shit That's wild I got all my transcripts back from ah from the Army and the Air Force and what little college I did over at SDI Because I'm transferring over to Purdue and I have I'm i'm like five credits short of an associate's degree.
00:35:33
Speaker
Nice and so my my culture was program just went from being a four year program to being two and a half. Hell yeah. Hell yeah. I was going to ask what do you what do you going back to school for? are You still going to do the same thing you were doing before you doing something different?
00:35:53
Speaker
So as I genuinely, I genuinely love working with guns. ah And I think that I can do, I can definitely have a side business in it and I plan on doing it. I've still got my FFL and all the fun stuff that I need to start the business, but I really want to go to school for organizational management and project management so that I can transfer it back into the civilian world for but like public safety.
00:36:24
Speaker
and security and things like that because I have the background in it and all that. good And then use that toward being on the more administrative side and and just kind of doing gunsmithing stuff for fun and for friends and throw a little bit of cash when I want to because I enjoy doing it and as awesome at it as it is, I i just, it's not gonna be a very lucrative adventure unless I put my whole heart and soul into it. And being a gunsmith includes a lot of indoors time.
00:36:53
Speaker
And I like the outdoors. Yeah, I think it's my thing is that I, I'm not the office type. Yeah.
00:37:07
Speaker
Um, like the other thing I was thinking about for organizational management is using it to help or using it to get a job with like some of the, uh,
00:37:20
Speaker
some of the like national wild wildlife associations and things like that. I mean getting out and working at national parks because we got like four of them around here. I mean it would just be awesome to be able to take something that I already understand and have a basic basic go around of it kind of pinpoint it so that I could actually help out places that I truly have a passion for. yeah And then actually make fucking money for doing it.
00:37:50
Speaker
big part of the gunsmithing thing that I was just like, God, I'm not going to make fucking, I'm i'm barely going to be able to pay for materials out of the gate. Like it's going to take me a couple of years before I start seeing any profit and I can't just not work, you know, while a hobby, um, spend all my time on hobby. But, uh, no, I trust me. I totally get that. And I understand that. I mean, that's why I still have my nine to nine to five. And then I do this in the evening time. So, you know, yeah.
00:38:19
Speaker
Yeah, but as we talked, eventually I'll get to the point where that work stuff is for the birds and this is all I do. Oh, I'm sorry. I got a thing on, uh, got a thing on Facebook. Oh shit.
00:38:44
Speaker
But anyway, we were talking about, uh,
00:38:50
Speaker
we're talking about the gym and like ways to relieve stress and things like that just and just a second ago and I kind of wanted to segue it a little bit. um
00:39:00
Speaker
I find myself getting mad at myself for not being what I was just like, what the fuck? Did you see what I was saying? I love the caption.
00:39:24
Speaker
ah Do you want to take a break before we jump into that conversation? Yeah, we can do that. We can do that. ah I mean, you can you can you can you can give them a tease if you want, and then we'll we'll take a break.
00:39:37
Speaker
Well, I mean, so this is the question I was kind of going to ask you to kind of segue into it. um Well, I guess question slash statement. I find myself at the gym a lot, especially at the beginning. Overworking myself and getting mad at myself for not being tough enough to finish a certain amount of reps, not do enough weight and then I'm mad because I'm not, I'm not tough. I'm not as tough as I used to be. Not as tough as my dad probably wanted me to be, you know, this, that and the other. I end up doing this little loop in my head and it gets me, it gets me angry and twirled up. I stand up at the gym for an extra hour. ah But I've started noticing this trend in my life um where I'm angry at myself for not being as tough as I think I should be. And when I say toughness, I don't just mean physical toughness, I mean mental toughness.
00:40:32
Speaker
and emotionally tough and being able to you know have that straight face in emotional situations, being able to, I almost admired it as a kid, the way that my dad would just, he was stone faced, he was stoic all the time. And the only thing you ever saw in him was joy. And what I noticed is that I feel myself lacking in that department. I'm trying to figure out where the line is between
00:41:03
Speaker
Toughness in a positive light versus toughness that becomes toxic.
00:41:13
Speaker
toxic to my mental health, toxic to my personal life, toxic to my family and those around me. ah and And it's just kind of the the talking point I wanted to discuss tonight is where toughness really stands in the world for men today versus what it used to be and what it means now versus what it used to mean ah and kind of the the different effects that it has on on men and their mental health, their daily lives.
00:41:44
Speaker
So yeah, as we roll into break, you guys can, uh, twirl that around in your little heads and be ready to pop in the comments and discuss, uh, as we, oh yeah, nobody dropped that linky though. Yeah. Um, it is an open forum, uh, as Monday's are, um,
00:42:06
Speaker
anybody that wants to pop in and partake in the conversation, you are more than welcome to. Um, or you can stay in the chatters box and. yeah and the the chatter box and be a bitch Yeah, there's a link 47,000 times in the chat. Put it up. it but this is go Yeah, it don't matter. And again, we're not experts. We're just speaking our mind and kind of adding our two cents maybe from personal experience or whatever the case may be. So, you know, just take it for what it is. It's an opinion and it's it's through experience.
00:48:15
Speaker
ah But before I get into that and I meant to say that the beginning of the show and I totally blanked on it But happy international podcast day everybody but Thank you guys for tuning in tonight ah But uh, you know, he was talking about toughness, um, I think more mental maybe maybe a little bit of physical Um But uh It's kind of the time of topic that he wanted to talk about and now he's disappeared on me
00:48:46
Speaker
I think, I think obviously there are two different things, whether the mental toughness and the physical toughness. Uh, you do have to have both to a certain degree. Uh, there he is. I was gone for like five seconds. That was the fastest song of my life. Almost five minutes. Just kidding. It was three and a half minutes. Yeah, exactly. It was a short ass song. That's right. I've been here for like 10 minutes. Just.
00:49:15
Speaker
floundering around. Happy International Podcast Day, by the way. Oh, shit. Now,
00:49:28
Speaker
yeah before I went to break, you kind of put a lot out there all at once. And one thing I want to start with and I want to jump on was it was the gym thing. I have never been that guy at the gym that feels like
00:49:45
Speaker
Uh, I'm not doing enough. I'm not lifting enough, or I can do more or anything like that. Even right now, I go to the gym. I'm there for about a half hour. I'm able to get my workout in about a half hour, but I'm also not trying to hurt myself. Um, yeah most of the outside of my outside of my, my, uh,
00:50:06
Speaker
ab workout. I mean, that's what it is. At the end of the day, it's a stomach workout and it just sounds like you say ab workout. You know, and when I do like the ab crunches or the ab twist or like the ab twist or whatever. Uh, whatever you want to call it. When I do, when I do my twists, uh, the crunches, I'm usually right around a hundred and to 140 pounds, but like my arms, my chest, my back, all that stuff.
00:50:36
Speaker
I'm like 30, 40 pounds right now. I'll work my way back up, but I think hurting yourself in the gym is more of a side of weakness and toughness because just because you can rack up 300 pounds doesn't mean anything at the end of the day. I mean, I'm a guy who can still grab ahold of a refrigerator and probably pick a refrigerator up by myself and carry it.
00:51:05
Speaker
I mean, I yeah used to do that shit all the time. I mean, I would, I would curl washing machines, you know, or whatever. I'd pick them up from the ring and just lift them like this and take them up three flights of stairs. You know, I can still grab a washing machine like that. I don't think I can think of the three flights of stairs, but
00:51:25
Speaker
I don't think that made me tough. I think that just made me efficient as a mover and and a delivery guy. Well, I think that don't get me wrong, I think that there's a difference between physical strength and toughness. I don't really give a fuck how much you you lift personally. ah Like if you if you lift 345, and you know, that's you you can barely get it off the fucking bar, put it down and put a little less weight on it.
00:51:50
Speaker
but if you're doing 345 and it's lightweight and it's just super easy, you just over there fucking doing the motions, whatever, like go put a little more weight on the bar, push yourself a little bit, like do something. yeah And maybe it's just, and maybe i'm I'm highlighting one of my own faults here, which I think I sort of am. And I think I kind of pre preface with, you know, I have a hard time finding the line. Um, but I, I kind of grew up with the idea of, um,
00:52:19
Speaker
your you have to have enough mental toughness to outwork your physical shortfalls. And so I mean, even when I'm in the gym and I'm doing a weight that I feel like you know this is this isn't terrible and I do eight reps instead of 10 or 15 and i i like I stop and I put it down because I was a little bit tired. I get mad at myself. I'm like, dude, how much how many more do you think you really could have done if you had if you had pushed yourself a little bit? Have you had pushed a little bit harder?
00:52:48
Speaker
you know, I run into that and that's just stuff at the gym and then I, you know, like I said, where where I run into the my downfall is, I feel like I suck his current a lot. ah But my middle child, God love him. I don't want to pick on him. But he's he's a little, he's a little bit soft. He's a little bit, he's a little bit, you know, he just wears, his he wears his emotions right out on his sleeve. And I know different, different strokes for different folks. But it it upsets me that he cries at so many things and I have to stop myself a lot from saying suck it up dude like it's it's you know whatever you know you got to be tough enough to not cry over
00:53:35
Speaker
this, that, or the other just because such and such happened to you and you didn't like it. like there's yeah and there's There's a line and i and I need to find it and I suck. and I want to walk up to him and go, stop being weak, but I can't because that's an asshole thing to do because that's what I tell myself. This dude, stop being weak and just fucking push through it. Just push through it. Well, I don't need to do that with my kid. He's a kid. Let him feel.
00:54:01
Speaker
And I think, I think, you know, maybe in a little bit older and having and and having a little bit more life experience just because as you say, soft, you sentries, you know, been around but a little more life experience seen, seen two world wars. thought there I was there when Jesus walked. I was there before I was around with the dinosaurs.
00:54:27
Speaker
Yeah. yeah i don't think Wearing your emotions on your sleeve is a sign of weakness. No, actually in all honesty, I think that's where, I think that's where, yeah and especially your generation, your, your generation's a little bit younger than mine, but even I find myself doing it now. That's, that's where like my dad and my, my grandparents and the men in my life messed up and you know, they, they put that.
00:54:56
Speaker
that mental block in our heads that, oh, if you fall down, get up, dust yourself off, move on. Don't be a pussy. Don't be soft. Well, it's just because you show emotion or you wear your emotions on your sleeve, this isn't even your stuff. Actually, if you're willing to put it out there like that and and and not care what people think, that that makes you tougher than most people would think that you are.
00:55:18
Speaker
Uh, and that's what I said, you know, you know, for instance, let's go back to the gym thing for just a second. I'm in my own little world when I'm at the gym. I don't care what anybody thinks about what I'm doing. I'm doing this for me. So if my 30 pounds that I put on the chest press offends you, there's a reason why you've been coming to the gym for the last six years that I've been coming to this gym and you still look the same and I change even when I take a two-year or a one-year hiatus and I come back, you haven't changed. You you got a little bit of muscle on your arm, but you're still a big fat slob and my body changes and it evolves because i'm not I'm doing my thing and i build so i I progress and life is like that and and and that's where I'm at in life. I'm progressing and
00:56:10
Speaker
And I'm realizing my faults. I tell my son all the time, you know, like, we'll be like, I mean, you, I'm using guardians of the galaxy three, right? Oh yeah. Yeah. That was an emotional roller coaster. yeah That was an emotional roller coaster. It was. And there was a couple of times where, where he was, we would kind of tease each other. Cause you'd be like, I could see he was getting teared up and I was getting choked up.
00:56:33
Speaker
And I told him when the movie was over, I said, you know, it's OK that we're making fun of each other. But I said, just so you know, you're allowed to cry. Like, if something's sad, you're fine. I was like, you know, I said, and I asked him flat out and, and you know, he's 11. I think he has a general grasp of the idea of what we were talking about. But I've also allowed him to be a kid and keep his innocence yeah and and and and enjoy life.
00:57:00
Speaker
But I you know i asked him, I said, do you think i'm you know do you think I'm weak? Because I was crying at a movie. movie yeah And he was like, no. He was like, I don't think any of my friend's dad would want to fight you. And I'm like, well, that's not what I'm going for. like That's not what I'm going for. but right yeah But I was like, it's all right. like We're allowed to cry. We're allowed to show emotions. I don't think it makes this week. You mentioned your dad and being very stoic. And and and I had moments like that.
00:57:30
Speaker
Uh, I can be in a situation where most people, you know, we have those two, those two defense mechanisms. It's either fight or flight. I don't have that in anymore. It used to be fight. I'm gonna fight everybody. Now it's all standing there and I'll be stone faced.
00:57:50
Speaker
and I won't show any emotion so you don't know what my move is gonna be. Or even if I'm gonna make a move. I have the time when somebody's getting aggressive and obnoxious and everything else with me, I'm singing the damn song from Beetlejuice in my head. You know?
00:58:07
Speaker
I'm bored. little I don't know where this is going, but it's not gonna be good for either one of us. But I think growth and maturity is a sign of strength and toughness at the end of the day. And know and and that's that's what I said earlier. you know I'm mending bridges right now. The bridges that need to be mended, I'm mending them. Now, a lot of people aren't going to like it. A lot of people aren't going to like that I bury the hatchet with somebody. But at the end of the day, it's so much easier in life just to bury the hatchet and move on.
00:58:50
Speaker
Rather than to carry that grudge around and that shows a sign of of toughness in my opinion You know mental mental mental mental strength What are you fucking reading? I can yell and scream and fuss and fight with somebody until I'm blue in the face but No, this is just right off the top of my head no, no, no, no you I was actually got some glasses on and I keep seeing you wick your finger and then come to a page like you had put your glasses on and shit. I'm like, what is he reading a fucking book? Green eggs and hands. No, no, no. Actually I got like pop or something. Yeah. I got like, I got like pop or something on my keyboard on my laptop and I'm trying to like,
00:59:38
Speaker
well ah You got a little smudge on your face Sonny boy, let me get that boy. Yeah This is gonna read mr. Brown can move can you mr. ah is that better say but I Can read dude I I saw a video on Facebook earlier today that just made me think of me and my wife and it's, you know, my wife reading and he's just flipping through the pages that and and and finishes a book and then it goes back to the dude who's sitting there. it's It's like the, the sound of the kid who can't figure out what he wants to say. And I, because, uh, I, and I, and I,
01:00:26
Speaker
Like that's exactly how it goes. My wife reads through it like my motherage book in a day and I sit there for a fucking hour and I get one chapter done. But anyway, back to back to what we were talking about. Fucking. Toughness and shit, right? Toughness. I had some talking points. Tough guy. Yeah. Yeah. Big, big tough guy now, huh? We'll get to talking.
01:00:55
Speaker
I don't know. i think some but in tough guy yeah I don't know. I grew up with with that mentality of your success is based off of your physical and mental toughness. how much How much physical and mental abuse you can take and just keep going and pushing through it and and not necessarily showing the world that you're going through that. It is a hard fucking habit to break.
01:01:29
Speaker
to drop that guard and say, I don't need to be tough right now. I still have troubles doing that with my wife. I mean, there she'll come out. I called her on it the other day because she was being, ah she she was in a mood. She was having a rough day and I could tell and she was just, you know, some stuff had come up from her past and she's going through it. And I was like, listen, you know, we, I can't help you. You can't feel better.
01:01:56
Speaker
You're just going to mull on it if you don't talk to me and be vulnerable and this, that and the other. And not, but two days ago, I was in a fucking stupor because I had, ah I had a fucking terrible, terrible episode. And I was just having a fucking horrible day after that. And so I went outside, I sat on the porch and been like an hour and Nikki comes out and she's like, what's going on? I was like, nothing, I'll be fine. I'll i'll be in, in like two minutes.
01:02:21
Speaker
She's like, no, no, no, no. You've been out here for long enough. You're going to sit here and talk to me because this is this is where we're at. I was like, I just don't want to talk. You know, I don't I don't want to let that that wall down. I don't want to let the toughness down because I'm supposed to be able to take it. It's supposed to be able to take the beating and get up and keep moving forward and get my fucking business done.
01:02:46
Speaker
and not let X, Y, and Z fucking throw me off my game. I'm supposed to be mentally tough enough to do that. And she was like, didn't you just tell me that if we don't communicate, if you don't let your guard down and talk to me, that this is going to end up being a problem. I'm like motherfucking reverse dress. She did. and the guy But she's right. She's 100% right.
01:03:12
Speaker
What you mean that what when you say she's right, when she says that, what you're also saying is I'm right. So, haha, bitch. Well, I'm not disagreeing with that. You're both right. You're, you know, you're both 100% right. You, when when you're in a relationship with your partner, you have to be able to communicate. You have to be able to talk about things, man. yeah Again, I'm going to go back to it. I think being able to let your guard down.
01:03:42
Speaker
and lean on somebody when you're having a bad day, especially your partner yeah is, ah is, is more of us. And this is, trust me, this is, this is something that I'm still learning and and and that I'm realizing, you know, as I progress, I mean, I, I am in the best spot I've ever been in my entire life in the last two years, almost two years now. Um,
01:04:10
Speaker
I think as a mental toughness goes, you show more toughness mentally when you're able to show that vulnerability and and let your guard down and be able to lean on somebody for emotional and and and moral support, and sometimes physically. You know, that's just me. Whoa, hey, hey, how you doing? Hey, there you are.
01:04:37
Speaker
What? What? Hey, welcome back. What happened? I never went away. You bobbed when you should have weaved. Your camera went down for like a second and then came back up. oh actually no you know And again, this is just my opinion. I am no expert by no means. But I think that side shows a different side of mental toughness when you're able to let someone in.
01:05:06
Speaker
Uh, and, and, and all people that we let into our, you know, let into our fortress of solitude, if you'll allow me to be a nerd for a minute. Shout out to Superman.
01:05:19
Speaker
a Big ups in the building. Big ups. Big ups. It's an S.
01:05:31
Speaker
a
01:05:34
Speaker
and it's not the answer, it's calm down. Hey, hey, hey. But good man yeah, you let somebody into your your you know your your fortress and and you allow that vulnerability. I think that shows more of a sign of toughness than putting up walls and and putting up a force field and like just walling in it like a pig, man. and and And I was guilty of it for years. You're still guilty of it.
01:06:05
Speaker
I'm not showing no weakness. I'm not showing no vulnerability. I'm not letting my guard down. I'm not letting my walls down. I'm going to be tough guy all day, every day.
01:06:17
Speaker
But you're still young. I am still young. My body doesn't know it, but my I am still young. I figure if I keep saying that, then my body will hear me and it'll magically get better.
01:06:29
Speaker
No, I probably shouldn't. Hasn't been a thing fucking recently. Good god. Yeah, as I was going to say I I I try to tell my body we're 22 every day and my body says yeah, really? Okay. Someone's been drinking the sauce again.
01:06:46
Speaker
We're 22, huh? And everyone put your boot on. And it's and it's Okay, why are you sending me this? and the My mother-in-law's weird. oh They usually are. God love her though. um No, I mean, and that's a great example is physical, physical toughness leading to the demise of my spine. so I mean, I had gone,
01:07:22
Speaker
couple years without saying anything about it because just figure you know it's low back pain you know everybody and their fucking sister has it right you know don't be the don't be the pussy to step out of line and say oh my back hurts and it it wasn't till I started having numbness and in my legs and my legs just not work. It wasn't until I had like serious fucking problems where I was like, Hey, yeah, maybe we should get it checked out. And even then I was like, you know, I'll be, I'll be back in like three months. You know, it's not a big deal, dudes. I'm fine. And I'm sitting there and my doctor's like, you know, what's your pain at on ah on a, on an everyday basis? And I was like, I don't know. I maybe sit at like a three or a four. And he was like,
01:08:08
Speaker
Are you, are you, bend, bend over and touch your toes for me. I want to see how far you can go. And I couldn't get past my fucking knees. And he was like, how's that feeling? I was like, that's like a six. And I was like, okay, go a little further. And I was like, I can't. It's like, why? Cause it'll hurt more. I was like, okay, then you're at like a six on your normal day to day. We need to get you down to an actual three. And they started putting me on these different medications to help me with my nerve pain and my back pain and stuff. And I was like, holy fucking shit.
01:08:39
Speaker
I was in this much pain, but I've been toughing it out for so long because I don't want to step out of line. I don't want to be that guy that this is where I'm actually at. And two years and four back surgeries later, I actually realized what it feels like to be pain free. And now I'm having pain again. And I'm like, ah, fuck, do I say anything about it? Or I just go about my fucking needs. Like it's all better. It's all better.
01:09:08
Speaker
It's it's weird because I feel like there is a level of toughness that a man should have. Well, absolutely. I mean, and don't be, you know, don't be running around like. Screaming and crying at the sight of a little mouse or something like that. And if you, you know. Oh, sorry. fuck Yeah. You know, if you bash yourself.
01:09:36
Speaker
Yeah. You know, if you bang your, your thumb with a hammer, you know, obviously you don't want to fucking sit around and move and whine and cry. Cause I know I'm going to throw that hammer at a fucking tree and I'm going to go about my business. Yeah. No, say a couple of customers. Oh yeah. I think, I think, you know, you brought up and and this fictional word that was made up in a fucking stupid cultural studies class or whatever and I'll play toxic masculinity. I don't believe in toxic masculinity. I hate that fucking word. But if I were, if the word to believe in it or give it any any kind of lost my train of thought. I don't know the word for what you're trying to say. Yeah. Yeah, I know what you're trying to say. If I know then the people know because I'm dumb.
01:10:28
Speaker
Yeah, exactly. You know, you give that give it value. I think those are some of those traits where you, you are in me, but you don't want to say anything because you don't want to step out of line. You don't want others to, I, you know, I, and I've been everywhere like, yeah, oh God, I can barely move, but I ain't going to let anybody else see that I'm in this much pain. I'm going to keep on going about my business and doing what I do.
01:10:55
Speaker
I think that gives you know that that that term some value and and you know some truth behind it. um Or you know for so many years, we were taught that it was not OK to show our emotions and not have mental problems. So we go on about our day again. In that aspect, yes, 100%, kind of a form of toxic masculinity. Shut up. Get the fuck out of here. Like if you're going to make up a word, at least give it some kind of. Like make it make sense. Just don't do it in your goofy ass liberal arts, feminazi class. Just to hate them like like make it make fucking sense. Don't make me come onto a podcast and make it fucking make sense. You know, I'm all over your podcast.
01:11:52
Speaker
all over where pocket got Just to make sure that if my mom's watching this show that she turns it off ah but But yeah Yeah, fuck I had something I was gonna say it's gone all right back to you look I
01:12:16
Speaker
Uh, I've been sitting here as you were talking thinking, yep. Okay. This is, it's going to lead perfectly into this. And then as soon as you stopped talking, I was like, Oh, fuck. It's gone. Um, Oh, no, but I mean, again, it's in our DNA. It's it's it's it's in our genetics to be tough, you know, yeah as men, tough. Um,
01:12:46
Speaker
But I think the definition of tough is changing. a It's evolving, and if you will. That's what it was. What is it? On the subject of... magnalinly so on that subject.
01:13:04
Speaker
um A big thing that when people say, because I've obviously been in the military for some time now, And I know a lot of guys that have lots of mental problems, lots of mental health issues that they refuse to go get help for. And they're just as bad, if not worse than I am when it comes to the issues that it causes and they just will not get help. And the answer is always the same.
01:13:34
Speaker
because I'm afraid of the repercussions that will come from it, not necessarily just from leadership or, you know, Oh, I might lose my job because that's what the, that used to be a thing in the military, but the, the stigma around reaching out for help when you are in The military, which is an inherently ah hate me if you want women, I don't really give a fuck. It is an inherently masculine, quote unquote job. It is inherently meant to be tough. It is meant to be bust your balls until it it sucks and then keep pushing. And these guys refuse to get help for shit that they've seen, shit that they've done.
01:14:17
Speaker
things that they had no fucking control over and are tearing them up on the inside and Visibly on the outside because they're afraid of the way they'll be looked at They're afraid of the things that people will say behind their backs About how ah he's just mentally fucking weak. He can't hack it. You know, he's just he' He's a dropout. He's a wash You know, give up on him. Don't put any more time into him. He's going to behavioral health to get checked out by a psychologist and to get help. You know, fuck fuck him. He's a pussy. Move on with your day. And I say that based off the military because the same shit happens in the civilian world.
01:15:02
Speaker
people go get help and honestly, I think part of the problem with it is there are some people who go to therapists and psychiatrists and psychologists to actually get help for an actual problem and then there are some people who just go because they wanna be a fucking number and they wanna be a part of the lemmings and it's created this fucking stigma that if you go, you're just being a pussy. if you're go you're If you go, you're being a bitch. Man up about it.
01:15:32
Speaker
And so dudes do that and then they fucking snap one day and choke dude out and end up in jail because they need to go get help because they're afraid of the way that their friends will look at them, afraid of the way that people would see him walking into such and such clinic. oh it's It's like there there is a fine line between the toughness that you need to have to be a man in today's day and age versus the toughness that you need to let go of to be sane and to be healthy and to have a good life. very much Well, and that's, you know, if you want to use the the terminology, toxic masculinity, that's, that's, me that's maity sorry that's, that's that that's it's a big part of the meeting. Yeah. Uh, that's, that's a big part of it, you know,
01:16:25
Speaker
wanting to portray an image because you don't want to be looked down on by people, your peers, your your your significant other, your your kids, whatever the case may be. um And that's what I said. you know Not only that, you know we we we have to deal with that, but then as men, we're also torn because women will say,
01:16:50
Speaker
We don't want toxic masculinity. We don't want a man to be too manly blah blah blah blah But then on the other side of the coin If a man is too overly sensitive or if he's seeking help for mental issues, and I'm not saying all women ah Generalizing before any anybody freaks out but then on the flip side of the coin, Oh, well he's, he's too soft. He's a pussy. Why does he go to therapy? Why, why does he do this? Why does he do that? He's not, or he's not this. He's not that's wrong with him. What is his bag? So it's like, uh, yeah, it's a double-edged sword. Like either I'm too manly or I'm not manly enough. Pick up your fucking mind. Like, where do you want to go with this? Where do you, what do you, what are you looking for? You know, because at the end of the day,
01:17:38
Speaker
fuck how you feel and what you think. I need to take care of me and I matter and how I feel matters. And I think more men need to be like that. And I think we're starting to see that. And, in in you know, and we have the image of the military, we have this image of the military and, and in ah you know, and you being in the military, you know, but but before you were in the military, you growing up and I remember growing up,
01:18:03
Speaker
just image of the military like all they did was fight and go to war and and and and blow shit up you know when in actuality there's something that yeah there's there's some people that you know there's a good majority of the military that never leaves an office that work in the medical field that that that that that do um like digital programming computer programming uh you know, ah mechanics and it's like there's construction guys, you know, not saying that they these guys don't go to war zones, but they they're generally, I would say, and you could correct me if I'm wrong, I'm just throwing a number out there. What, like maybe
01:18:49
Speaker
20% of the military actually is goes into straight on head-to-head, hand-to-hand gun to gun combat. That's probably an accurate number. That's probably fairly close. It's probably like 20, 30, 40%. It's less than half. Actually go sea combat or do all the badass shit or blow shit up and do three week long trainings in the field for no fucking reason other than to make your life suck.
01:19:15
Speaker
second So, so sorry I mean, any, any, anybody, anybody who's young and thinking about going to the military, go, go to your recruiter and look at the list of jobs that they offer. I mean, I wanted to go into the military and, and obviously I wanted my career path to go a certain way, but I couldn't, uh, and, and they're like, well, we got all these jobs. And I was like, I didn't know all these jobs existed at all. I have an 18 year old.
01:19:46
Speaker
jackass. And I was like, I just want to go kill people. You know, then they're like, you got all these job opportunities. And I'm like, Oh, I didn't know you guys did all this. Like, I can still bullshit up. And I can, you know, I was gonna go into combat engineering, which is basically their construction. You know, like, no, it's not because Yeah. Well, the way the recruiter described it to me is like, your recruiter is a **** liar. Yeah. He's like, you're going to blow **** up. You're going to build **** and then you're going to like, you know what? You go blow up IDs.
01:20:21
Speaker
If ed isn't available, they call you. Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, I was like, yeah, I can do that. I was already in the construction field as it was and it was like, alright, I'll do my ho some odd years and then i'll come out and oh you construction or own my own company or some shit, you know, like whatever. yeah But I think and and I think that's part of the problem, too, is everybody thinks like this, I'm going to go to war. no Well, some of you some of you might some of you might not ever leave the States. Yeah. My ex wife's cousin, he was in the Air Force. He. I think he went. Where did he go?
01:21:06
Speaker
I can't remember where he went, but he was only gone for like six months. And then he's been in the States ever since. Well, I can tell you this, uh, if anybody, whoever listens to this joins the military, the military doesn't get paid without finance.
01:21:25
Speaker
And as much as we fucking hate you guys, you fuck up your job. So goddamn often. And I don't get my fucking paycheck on time. You stupid. nu We need you.
01:21:36
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, Nikki's Nikki's son's been in like in Italy and he's he's in the Air Force. He's been in Italy and he goes skiing and goes and does what whatever, he you know, while he's in Europe. It's so fucking flip floppity backwards. I started out with my job and then went to the hardcore job. But he's going to be coming home here in a couple of years. I can't remember when exactly.
01:22:06
Speaker
He's going to Idaho. He's going to be a potato rancher, but he's, he's going to stay. He's going to, he, he, he re re enlisted, re signed up, whatever it's called for, I think I mean, most of our six years. Yeah. Um, but he'll be home here in a while and he's going to, he's going to Idaho and that's where he'll be the rest of his time.
01:22:27
Speaker
ah i he's gonna be a potato rancher but I joke and shit on the military all the time because I had a love hate relationship with it, but genuinely it is the, it is the right choice for a certain set of people. It is, agree it is. and And as much as I love hate it.
01:22:50
Speaker
We need them we need them we need people to continue to volunteer I'm not gonna sit here and fucking recruit you and hope to hope to increase the recruiting numbers for the fucking US military cuz fuck them, but If you have a passion for it and you really want to do it Fucking send it man Yeah, fuck Verizon. Uh, yeah, that's why I don't have Verizon Chris. Do you know?
01:23:17
Speaker
The question is, is Glick frozen or am I? That's the real question.
01:23:27
Speaker
Chris, am I frozen or is it Glicks? Ah, it was Glick. Oh shit, now I'm up here alone. ah So yeah, anyway, we were talking about the military because we're talking about mental toughness, physical toughness, all that shit, where it becomes quote unquote toxic.
01:23:47
Speaker
Um, and why it's, it's, it's a good thing and why it's an issue. And the military just kind of came up because it's, it is naturally a shitty internet. Yep. That's okay. I had shitty internet last week. Uh, the reason the military came up is because it's, again, it's inherently known to be the quote tough job. Yeah. I was trying to figure out if it was your internet and or mine, dude. No, my, my laptop does this really fun thing where it'll just, uh,
01:24:18
Speaker
switch from Because I have one internet that's like I have like I have a 2g and a 5g And it'll just randomly switch to the 2g On my laptop and the 2g is like straight dog shit yeah, so then I have to switch it back over and do that whole fun dance and actually Oh, actually I'm gonna charge her here because my laptop is dying. Speaking of toughness. Um, yeah, I'll go ahead and and say it. My back has been in a shit, shit way for like the last three, four days. I'm starting to get panicky about it. And I'm trying not to, I'm trying to like, just call your doctor, keep it calm. And like, but do like the last three, four days I've been hurting and like waking up throughout the night.
01:25:15
Speaker
I woke up this morning and it was hard to get out of bed. and And I haven't taken any pain medications for it because I'm like, you know, once you start, it's, it's, it's a whole fucking deal. And then you gotta go get new scripts for everything. And it's a giant pain in the ass. Fuck me. Like I want, I want to tough it out for like a week and see if it just goes away. But like, I know how that, last how that went last time.
01:25:41
Speaker
Well, either there is that, but also look at it as, have you been doing anything to ever exert yourself lately? yeah Yeah. That was something else that I was thinking about and I was like, other than, you know, nothing that I haven't been doing for like the last, since my surgery, since like a month after my surgery. It's been, it's been almost, it's been two and a half months now and I've probably been back to quote unquote normal for like the last month and a half and I'm starting to starting to panic because I'm starting to have some significant pain again. I'm like, o should I should I wait it out and just try and take it easy? I call my doctor and be like, hey yo, something's bucky in this neighborhood. I don't know what it is. I would say the best option is to give your doctor. That's the best option. You can suck my dick.
01:26:37
Speaker
because it doesn't matter what the **** you say, I'm going to make my own decision anyway. Oh, that rhyme. I was a poet and I didn't even know it. Damn, I'm **** sexy. If I could lose another 30 pounds, I'd be even sexier. Damn.
01:26:54
Speaker
but me Oh, Chris Technician, look at me and tell me I'm not hot. because I know Glick's looking at me with that like, oh, yeah, whatever. You're going to keep tuning your own i know i'm fucking so
01:27:10
Speaker
whatever makes you feel better brother. You know, it makes me feel never mind. I won't say that. I'm not. I'm not here. I'm not here to judge. You do you. bo I will do me. I will and I'll have a good time doing it. Right? He's getting efficient at his job.
01:27:29
Speaker
Yeah, no, I think, you know, to get back on topic, like like I said before, I think, you know, there is a certain level. yeah There is a certain level of of quote unquote physical or outward toughness that we have to have. But I don't think showing weakness, whether in a fit or physical aspect, an emotional aspect,
01:27:58
Speaker
or mental aspect. Like, I mean, even something is, man, I used to be, hot man, I used to be the type of motherfucker that if I didn't know how to do something, I sure as hell was not going to admit that to anybody. I'd be like, yeah, I can do that. But then I'd have to figure out how to do it, you know, trial and error. You know, if I don't die, then it's a success at the end of the day. Exactly. you know But no, I mean, you know, being able to admit your faults and being able to admit that, you know, you can't Physically do something or or being able to admit that you're just in a bad place mentally um Emotionally whatever I think that's I think it's a big sign of of of toughness or being tough because it takes a lot to To admit when you don't know something or admit when something's bothering you or something's wrong It takes a lot. I mean you really gotta you really gotta learn to swallow your pride and and I mean Lord knows that
01:28:59
Speaker
I've eaten a whole lot of pride sandwiches in the last few years. Where before? Mustard or no? No, man. Them sons of bitches were dry as can be.
01:29:13
Speaker
yeah Dry. Swallowing the pride sucks. Yes, dry. Didn't taste good. Was hard to swallow. Yeah, Tony D wasn't there slathering 40 pounds of mayonnaise on any of those fried sandwiches for me.
01:29:27
Speaker
well I mean, Manny's not not man A's. I mean, Manny's Mayo. Ew. Miracle Whip, Dukes, whatever you prefer. Jeff was hanging out with him. That's gross. Yeah, no. You know, I don't know. I think I think that shows a sign of mental strength and I know you suffer from mental retardation, but you know. It's not it's not what it is.
01:29:57
Speaker
Okay, I told you this time and time again, early onset dementia. That's all it is. T serum, you're 25. Chokes on you. um I'm going to develop Parkinson's next year.
01:30:13
Speaker
If you do, I'm getting you one of those cameras that follow you or, you know, the camera that automatically. Well, honestly, you you might be able to have that as like a tax write off for giving to a giving to the poor, giving to the the less fortunate.
01:30:33
Speaker
Hey, Cloverfield, do you want to calm down over there? But no, I mean, so you know, it's this is and again, this is just my opinion. it I'm sure there's people out there that are a lot fucking smarter than I am That can come on here and be like glitter complete and total fucking moron. You have no idea what you're talking about Well, you know what? I'm speaking on personal experiences and I'm telling you how I feel about where I was to where I am I Feel stronger today, you know physically mentally Emotionally, I feel stronger today than I did I did even three years ago
01:31:14
Speaker
Do you know who would be perfect for this conversation? Who will probably never have on this show, but would be fucking wild is Jordan fucking Peterson. Who the hell is that? Why does that name sound familiar? He's the, he's the Canadian white dude. Oh, he's a Canadian. Of course he's white. Um, he's the Canadian dude. He's a psychologist. He's like had a whole bunch of controversy because he, uh, he's Christian and he,
01:31:42
Speaker
He goes to college campuses and speaks. and Oh, he is he is he is he that is he like the goofy looking guy that basically makes the left look dumb every chance he gets? You're thinking of Ben Shapiro. No, not Shapiro. I'm thinking of the other guy. There's Shapiro, and there's another guy who will like. I think I don't hear you talking about. He's young he's not young. He's an older dude. Look up Jordan Peterson. You'll know him when you see him. I think I know exactly what you're talking about.
01:32:13
Speaker
He's an older dude. Come on. Google, you should have already been listening to it. You know what the thing about toughness is? Oh, no, I don't. Of course you've got to be tough. Of course you've got to be tough. He's like super old. Well, not super old. He's in the 60s. He's not super old. He's younger than you are. Well, I actually have no idea who that is. I'd be 100% honest. How come you haven't heard him? I'm not saying I haven't heard him.
01:32:44
Speaker
The name does sound familiar. You just don't think. Yeah, you're going to have to look up some of his talks because he's. He does a lot of stuff with with men's mental health and he speaks a lot about how.
01:33:00
Speaker
yeah I don't think he says anything about quote. He doesn't say toxic masculinity, but he references a lot of stuff that we actually talk about. Toughness being one of them.
01:33:14
Speaker
And the need for men and how men have become a a cold commodity rather than a hot commodity nowadays. and and i yeah i Yeah, I can agree with that. I can agree with that. That goes back to where I was talking about the double edged sword. You want this type of man, but then when you get this type of man, he's too much of this. And then when he's yeah on the other side of the coin, he's too much of that. You know, like.
01:33:43
Speaker
make up your **** mind. Like, where where are we? Where are we supposed to be at? On the spectrum? Yeah. What? Hi, Nikki. Connor said hi. It's too much of a thing. But you know what? There goes one again. Back to 2.4 Hertz. Except for when your friend did not meet with a machete at night. Leave my pillows alone and I won't have to. No, it's fine. Hi, Nikki. Connor said hi again. Hi. I heard you the first ten times.
01:34:14
Speaker
i ate my salad now i'm fucking fool well glilix internet is shit so like nobody can hear you no i have my background noise up fixed clickck internet no i have my background noise off so she had to be over here out by the mic she wasn't goingnna pick yeah up but yeah You you were you were cutting in and out like your video was Somebody the hit the fucking button at this point. I'm over. I can't hang out with him anymore Can't spend time with click anymore You don't hardly spend any more time. You don't hardly spend time with me at all anymore
01:34:55
Speaker
and always with your face Honestly, dude, I haven't been on a Saturday night night show in a good few weeks now and I miss it, dude. It's just been, it's been a busy few weekends, man. This is Saturday night with your family. yeah Look at you. You've got a happy family. You fucking twat waffle. Nobody likes you. Yeah.
01:35:19
Speaker
Ooh, my daughter's birthday. Yeah, yeah my daughter's birthday. My wife's birthday. And your first marriage. yeah
01:35:31
Speaker
I've only had one marriage. You don't hate your parents? Well, fuck you. I've only i've only been married once. So far. Exactly. I've been engaged.
01:35:45
Speaker
move They were quite made into that marriage.
01:35:52
Speaker
and it butway But, but I'll say, I'll say this very eloquently put of you. Well done. be one yeah ironnuckled use God damn. Good thing is we're getting it on camera.
01:36:14
Speaker
Too bad he's not actually dying. I'm kidding. I actually love Glick. I would never want to see him die. Jeff, on the other hand, we all want to see that happen. like Grabber. Well, I think we've got another week week or two, Max. Grabber. He's just going to be honest. He's going to do this. Now we're going to be like, oh, oh, it's happening. It's screen recording. but Right in the middle of his 10th freaking quarter pounder.
01:36:42
Speaker
Um, no, I mean, you know, speak already later of co yeah, speaking of the, uh, you know, quote unquote failed relationships and, and, and and whatnot, there's a part of me that I'm like, you know, I'm really glad me that some of the relationships that I was in did not, eh, I was, I was not mentally in the right place to be in a healthy relationship. mean Um,
01:37:10
Speaker
You know, I'll take blame where blames do but also the people that I was with Or the relationships that I were in they were not in the right frame of mind Mentally to be in ah in a relationship either. So I mean at the end of the day um Whether they were toxic why we were together or they were headed towards that road Be it they would have become toxic because you know neither one of us were you know, so it like I said these last five, five, six years have really, you know, been a growing and a learning experience for me and finding myself and, and, and, and really working in that, you know, and I'm not saying, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with anybody who goes to therapy or is on medication or anything like that, because there's not, uh, it just, that was not an option for me. Um, I tried therapy a couple of times.
01:38:07
Speaker
Unfortunately, it would go great. And then they'd get their little fucking prescription pad out. and I'm like, I don't know what part of, I told you from jump street. This is not the avenue. I want to go down. I want to, I want to be able to come in here once a month or.
01:38:21
Speaker
couple times a month and have somebody to fucking talk to and figure things out. I don't want you to give me drugs so you can get your money from your drug reps and, and, and meet your quota for the month and then put a bandaid on it. I want to fix it. I want to fix the fucking problem. And then it also, and then it also came down to me, honestly, like, you know, like I've said before hitting rock bottom, like flat out bottom of the barrel, uh, to get and And I'm by no means am I, am I better yet, but you know, it has taken me a better part of six years to get to where I am. And I found a way that worked for me. A lot of it has to do with this podcasting thing. Uh, not just this show, but in general, because this is, this makes me happy. Uh, this is something I've wanted for years. So this genuinely makes me happy. And I can get on here and I can vent when I'm having a bad day or a bad week or whatever the case may be.
01:39:21
Speaker
So, fuck yeah, I mean, it's important to be able to, to be able to go through phases in your life. That's all it is. Yeah. It's all those natural relationships are is, is trucking faces of your life. Yeah. Um, you know, I know a lot of people don't like when I don't like to hear it, but I, you know, I think, I think everything happens for a reason and I think people come into your life.
01:39:49
Speaker
for a particular lesson to be taught or learn from or something. People come into your life for a reason. And it's not all, you know, it might seem bad at that moment in time, but but then when you look back on it down the road, it's like, you know what? Thankful that person came into my life. You know, I was in a situation and I was somewhere that I needed to Had the door open and see so that's all that's all I said, you know, mending bridges and stuff like that, you know for Some people out there that hear this And hey, it is what it is and it was what it was Uh Thanks for getting me where getting getting me to where I am today Um, but And again that comes with
01:40:43
Speaker
You know, I used to be that guy with my chest puffed out all the time with an with the chip on my shoulder because I had to be a tough guy. Don't show no emotion. Walk into the room. Let everybody know that you're the fucking king. And if you're not the king, you don't give a fuck who the king is, you know, type mentality. And that got me nowhere, man. that That got me nowhere. It got me a lot of emotions. He says with a title, the champ. Well, I am the champ. I have belts to prove.
01:41:13
Speaker
I have, I have belts that prove that I'm the champ. I have the belts that I went online and bought that proves that I'm the champ. I only bought one of them.
01:41:27
Speaker
the taylor do times Two three times, three times, four times, six times. No, um, no, I used to, i you know, and that's, that's such a, that's such a,

Um I just needed to get that out for the public to hear uh secondly uh tonight we talked about toughness a little bit um and I tried to highlight some of my own downfalls uh highlight some of our shortcomings and some of the Uh, the, the little walls that, uh, I'm trying to learn how to tear down and let people see into and get over and get past. And I think it's one of the things that we really need to start working on as men because we have been indoctrinated. and That's the right word, indoctrinated. Yes.
01:56:35
Speaker
and ingrained indoctrinated yeah so inoctrination yeah into a a world where toughness is you never show anything ever. Because you're too tough. Nobody needs to see it. Nobody needs to hear it. Nobody wants to. And if you do, you're a fucking puss. Yeah.

And that's just not true. It wasn't true in the first place and it's not true now. And so we got we gotta to learn how to change our ways or to hell we will all go. So yeah, I mean, that's that's really it. Just gotta to learn how to change the change the story so we can move forward as men and and as a as a race of men, we can move forward together.
