If you're ready to stop struggling and start scaling, you're in the right place. Let's turn your passion into profit. Hit play and let's build your beauty empire.
Critique of Beauty School System
00:00:31
Speaker
entire system of the beauty school does not serve you. It doesn't do what it's supposed to do. It does not help you build a business. It doesn't prepare you for the real world. Their adaptability is important. It's not taught in beauty school. Marketing is super important for you to have a business. Networking is super important for you to have a business.
00:00:52
Speaker
your Your mindset in being a business owner is super important. It does not prepare you. It conditions you for a world that does not exist. This is why so many people come out with bad attitudes. This is why so many people come out with false expectations about what business is going to be like.
Industry Retention Challenge
00:01:11
Speaker
only 25% of people that graduate from a but beauty school are in the beauty industry five years later. They get out and it's a shock. And so they get negative and they quit or, but before they do, they spread that negativity to the new people that are coming in.
00:01:28
Speaker
Absolutely. That is, have you been to beauty school before? How'd you know all that? da and Honestly, since we started this and just talking to all these beauty professionals, I would have thought beauty school, at least half a beauty school yeah would be focused on business.
00:01:42
Speaker
Yeah. and it's just not. No. It's not even, it's not in the curriculum. There might be some courses or some, what you call ancillary like information on it. Yeah.
00:01:54
Speaker
But it's not a part of the curriculum. No, the business building part is not. And that's what kind of inspired us to get this started. You know, the
Renee's Business Model Innovation
00:02:03
Speaker
salon that I own here in Texas is kind of a little boutique salon suites.
00:02:08
Speaker
So I have a about, you know, six rooms here. um And each one of those women rents a room from me and they run their own business. So I have seen over the last five years. A lot of women come through with absolutely zero clue what to do.
00:02:22
Speaker
I mean, we're talking what booking app, what color, what's branding, what marketing, like they know nothing. And I love a fresh, a fresh palette. It's fun because we can create exactly what they want together.
00:02:35
Speaker
And so that's why we incorporated beauty in the business into the salon here and then realized that it was really, Taking off, it was creating results. Women felt confident in their skill sets and in their brand and in their business. They felt proud of what they were doing.
Addressing Educational Gaps with Free Course
00:02:53
Speaker
you know, that's why we're offering that course now free for the next 90 days. It's a $500 course that well we're going to go over everything you need to know to get your business started.
00:03:04
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. Everything. and I don't know why I was so shocked either. Like I really should be. It's not like high school doesn't prepare you to go in the real world. No. College doesn't prepare you to go in the real world. Grad school doesn't prepare you to go in the real world.
00:03:16
Speaker
Like all all of this stuff, it maybe med school is the only school out there that actually prepares you for what you're going to do in the real world. As long as you're working at a hospital, it does not prepare you to go run your own practice.
00:03:28
Speaker
No. Probably that and accounting. Yeah, that's a good point. Accounting, you're looking at numbers all day. But even in accounting, they don't go over how to run a business, like how to manage employees, to right how to go out and grow a business. there's no
Importance of Mentorship and Continued Learning
00:03:40
Speaker
When you go get your CPA license, like there's nothing on the test about how to grow a business.
00:03:45
Speaker
That's very true. there's nothing out there and so you have to go figure it out you have to have a mentor or you have to find a course that's offered for free for the next 90 days that you can get a part that you can be a part of and because this is what uh this is yeah that's why we created this course and that's why personally that's why i'm so passionate about it because when you talk to so many people and you realize how how many hopes and dreams go into beauty school How much money goes into beauty school? How much time goes into beauty school? How much energy and effort goes into beauty school?
00:04:16
Speaker
And then they take that from beauty school and you take that and you go out into the real world. You have to make your own way, right? If you're lucky enough, you find a mentor.
00:04:28
Speaker
Like if you're lucky enough, you find someone who can at least help you get to that first level of success. But oftentimes, I mean, twenty only 25% of people are around after five years. 75% of people aren't in beauty anymore after graduating after five years, after graduating beauty school.
00:04:49
Speaker
It's just, it's amazing to me that this is out there. But, you know, i guess it's amazing. and I sound
Opportunities for Beauty Entrepreneurs
00:04:56
Speaker
like I'm outraged. I'm not. I guess I don't know what I expect from school.
00:04:59
Speaker
Sure. Because you provide good material. and I guess I'm shocked. Like, I'm just, I'm shocked that the beauty industry ah has not done better. And I'm excited also, like, I'm excited to put together what we've offered, ah that people can access it now and apply it. Like, I think that's going to be one of the biggest things is actually applying the information.
00:05:18
Speaker
Yeah. And a lot of times people expect instant success out of school. But we talked this in previous episodes that it's just kind of getting your feet wet.
00:05:29
Speaker
yeah' It's a lot of trial and error. It's a lot of pushing through. Why the goal setting portion of the course is so important because it's a lot easier to make it through those hard days and those, you know, maybe bad work environments when you know this is not where I'm staying. This is just where I'm at.
00:05:45
Speaker
but this is where I'm going and this is why this applies here. And then just being
Clientele Building Strategies
00:05:51
Speaker
consistent in your business and still always growing your own personal brand. um And all of those, it's kind of hard to see when you're in school. there's a lot of There can be a lot of drama.
00:06:01
Speaker
can be a lot of kind of cattiness and, and we don't want that for you. You can be in school, but have us as a community. This is not just a community for women that have graduated and gotten their license.
00:06:14
Speaker
Women and men, I should say. you one percent You can start this while you're in day one of school. yeah You can listen to these videos when you get home. You can learn how to incorporate grabbing clients while you're still in school. That's a big portion.
00:06:29
Speaker
People don't realize you're expected to bring clients in. while you're still in that building. And that's when you establish your clientele while you're in school. yeah You're getting ahead of it. A lot of people get that wrong.
00:06:41
Speaker
They think, oh, well, I'm here. They're supposed to just give me the clients. I'll do my own thing once I leave. Well, if you start building it now and asking them to follow you, you can leave school with- full book. Yeah, or half of them at least.
00:06:56
Speaker
Some people like to go to the schools, you know, to get their perms or to do whatever. at a cheap rate, but you can always kind of give them a little incentive to switch over to you outside there and you know, start those referral bonuses and things like that.
00:07:10
Speaker
I, I really, i can't think of another profession that you can actually start building clientele before you're certified.
00:07:21
Speaker
Right. When we do mention that doctors can't do it, CPA can't do it. Um, There's no, there's really, i really, really off my top of my head. I really can't think of another profession.
00:07:32
Speaker
And so that's where, that's where this is so cool. and there's so
Entrepreneurial Accessibility in Beauty
00:07:35
Speaker
much opportunity. And I'm, I, I'm a huge fan of entrepreneur, on, on, on. on Entrepreneurship.
00:07:44
Speaker
Is that right? Yes. Why? That's it's like one of those words you say so much that entrepreneurship, geez. um I'm a huge fan of entrepreneurship. And, uh, and I think this, this is one of the most entrepreneurial ventures you can possibly get in because the, the barrier to entry is somewhat low, right? You need to to beauty school, right? But, um, that's not that much time compared to other professions that you have, you know, even like if you're going to go into plumbing or electric electric or or something like that, um, you know, that's years of, of training before you're off on your own.
00:08:20
Speaker
um This is just such an exciting industry that you can actually build, but you have to have the awareness around it that you can build. And I think the cattiness that comes from just getting started, it's confusing, right? It's confusing. And then what do we do? We fall into the same patterns. Maybe we've always done, we fall into the same patterns of other people.
00:08:38
Speaker
And sometimes that cattiness, that drama will come up because we don't know what else to do. Yeah. And so, ah guys, if you're in school right now, if you're listening to this and you're in school, if you're listening to this and you're thinking about going to school, start building your social media following now around beauty. Whatever you're goingnna do when you get out of school, you don't have to think five years from now about building your your market your social media network now.
00:09:01
Speaker
Yeah. But you can start building it now. And like Renee said, I mean, when you're doing when you have when you want people to come to school, you could have ah a line of people. like You can really go a long way fast with this um to where you don't have the expectation that you're going to make six figures the first year, but you could easily make 50 grand, 60 grand the first year.
00:09:24
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Right. But it just takes that intentionality on the front end. Exactly. And, you know, I'd like to give some of these listeners a little step by step guide because I find this is a really common issue as they start heading towards graduation.
Exam Scheduling Advice
00:09:39
Speaker
that it sneaks up on them. And part of graduating is getting your written exam scheduled and finished and then your licensed practical ah exam scheduled and finished.
00:09:51
Speaker
And sometimes depending on the state you're listening in from, it's same day and sometimes you have to wait, I think in Texas you have to wait 72 hours. And those classes can fill up. So if you know your projected graduation date,
00:10:05
Speaker
Go ahead and start looking around near you for your testing centers to go take your tests and get them done as soon as possible. Because what I saw personally and with some of the girls that I'm in communication with now that are graduating, they didn't do that.
00:10:19
Speaker
And so when they completed their hours, when they went to go schedule their exams, It was like a month and a half wait. And then from the first written exam, then they had to schedule their practical.
00:10:30
Speaker
Well, there wasn't any open for another month. So that's two months of downtime. What do you have to do? What if you're on your own? You got to figure out a way to bring in income. If you're not selling product or you're not doing like a little side hustle, you're going to have to distract yourself. Maybe go wait tables. I don't know. Maybe you have a family that supports you and is willing to wait that two months.
00:10:52
Speaker
But it's a very common struggle. And i have a theory that it's part of the reason why the distraction happens, the self-doubt, that period of time where it's not fresh in your mind,
00:11:05
Speaker
You know, um all those things start to kind of pile up and create that doubt yeah within you. So you want to get those scheduled and on the books, but then you also want to for your next step, you want to decide your next moves.
00:11:18
Speaker
Are you going to do a booth rental and go out completely on your own? Are you going to get a resume together? You can brag about. you know, accolades that you collected in school. You can put together before and after pictures of your work.
00:11:30
Speaker
um Start looking at commission salons. Are you going to be working for a spa? um Do you know the pros and cons of each one of those options? Do
Focus on Branding and Networking
00:11:39
Speaker
you want the time freedom or do you want to be getting as much education hands-on as possible right out of school?
00:11:44
Speaker
Are there any apprenticeships or assistant roles that you can help refine your skills while you're waiting for your dream job? ah Everybody is going to have a different, you know, budget, a different situation financially.
00:11:58
Speaker
But then the third step, you want to start building your brand while you're in school, while you're there. So you're recognizable. You want to start making connections on social media of any random clients that come through your door.
00:12:12
Speaker
Make sure they follow you on your Instagram or if you've created a Gloss Genius website or something that they can tap into. um Start marketing yourself and branding yourself.
00:12:25
Speaker
We go over that in the course because a lot of people think branding is just a logo and it's way more than that. So and just start networking and getting ideas, brainstorming with other beauty professionals. And we've created that community for you.
00:12:39
Speaker
So um another tip I would have is to get client testimonials. Yeah, smart. You could build a Google business review page while you're still in school. Yeah. There's all kinds of ways to get ahead of the graduation game yeah and and start really almost halfway in the door of having your own business. Yeah, ah really. I mean, it's incredible what you can do with with that time.
00:13:01
Speaker
And I, you know, speaking from experience and i don't mean to sound super old to all my teens and 20 year olds listening. Um, but you guys like life literally goes faster and faster and faster. Like if you're fresh out of high school, if you're fresh out of college, it just, when you have, when you're in charge of your own time, it goes so fast. And so taking the extra, you know, taking the extra five minutes and booking your tests, right.
00:13:29
Speaker
Just do it. Like take, think about it, do it. Um, taking the extra, um, It might take you 90 minutes, two hours to complete this free course that we have. Guys, do it.
00:13:39
Speaker
Like if you get one piece of information that's going to help you go and build your business, it's 100% worth that time compared to what you would have been doing, right? What else would you have been doing? Watching Netflix, watching Reels, watching TikTok. Like it's it's so many different things that you would have been doing that aren't serving your business in the future. And so time's going to go fast. I think just some of the questions that
Envisioning Ideal Work Environment
00:14:00
Speaker
to ask yourself is where? Right.
00:14:02
Speaker
Where do you want to be working? where do you where do What location do you want to be in? right and There's no wrong answer. The only thing wrong is to not think about it, not to have some idea.
00:14:14
Speaker
Where do you want to be? ah Who do you want to be working for? Is there somebody specific that you want to be learning from? Are you willing to sacrifice? If you're young and listening to this, if you're just getting started, if you don't have a huge overhead, if you don't have a mortgage, if you don't have kids, if you don't have a significant other that you have to worry about their schedule as well, you can make sacrifices now. You can live with multiple roommates.
00:14:37
Speaker
You can make those sacrifices and learn from the the experts that you want to learn from if that's what you want to do. If you don't care who you learn from or you want to go learn from a successful business person, take our course and just go take this any place, right? go Go start your business.
00:14:50
Speaker
I think the last thing I would encourage you to think about when it does come to branding, Who's your ideal client? Based off where you want to live, based off where you want to work, based off how much money you want to make, who is your ideal client?
00:15:03
Speaker
Like, do you want to go high end? Do you want to go mid-level? Do you want to go low end? Like, there's no wrong answer. The only wrong answer is to have no answer. Like, to not think about this stuff. that this is This is basic business stuff that they're not going to teach you in beauty school.
00:15:19
Speaker
Like, we know that. And then, also, you just want to when you're doing your branding, Who are you talking to? like Are you talking to um females that are 45 to 65?
00:15:32
Speaker
Are you talking to to males that are 55 plus? right Are you talking to females that are 18 to 30? There's no wrong answer. It's just, what's your ideal client that you're going for? This doesn't mean you're not going to have people outside your ideal clientele, but what do you actually want out of this?
00:15:51
Speaker
Yeah. And, you know, for those of you that are wanting to go the commission route and get some more, you know, education, hands-on education and and take kind of the pressure away of building a business, I'd like to also add that our course, the skills that we're teaching you in the course also really, really apply to somebody who's an employee, not just a business owner.
00:16:11
Speaker
And you know you're going to graduate the course and get a certificate out of completion. And that's something that you can just tack onto your resume. So you might as well get that done while you're in school. And that employer and commission person can see that yourre you're serious and you're ready and willing to work.
00:16:28
Speaker
Yeah. So go out there and just realize that that beauty school isn't the end of your education. right? We have this

00:16:57
Speaker
Um, I, I'm the owner of a multi-million dollar company that's in that's in skincare, anti-aging and and doing sales. And so just the experience that we have that we've really put in there. We have great mentors as well.
00:17:09
