00:00:45
Speaker
Oh my goodness. All right. Let's talk about some sigils up in this bitch. I like this topic so much because like it is so easy. Anyone can do it.
00:00:59
Speaker
Yeah, I feel like we're going to have to post a lot of examples. Right. Yeah. So some of the things that we will be talking about, yeah, might be hard to imagine in your head unless you've seen it already, but yeah, we'll definitely be posting some examples, videos, whatever pictures of kind of how to do it. And we will share something, something that will help.
00:01:26
Speaker
Not sure yet exactly what we're sharing. Just know it's going to be something. We'll get there.

Understanding Sigils and their Origins

00:01:33
Speaker
So sigils are symbols that have a magical or a mystical meaning. They're created to invoke an intention, and they can be used for manifestation, protection, power, and more. Sigil derives from the Latin sigilum.
00:01:50
Speaker
which means seal or signant. And it is the root of many other English words, such as signature, sign, and signal. Sigils can be magical just in and of themselves, or it can be a way to help you tap into your subconscious mind if you're working on spells, which is wonderful. And then I saw this quote and I thought it was hilarious. And it basically sums up everything that is a sigil. And it's from the witch's cookery.
00:02:17
Speaker
She is so cute on YouTube, but she said that sigils are little scribbles to symbolize what you wish for. And I thought that was so cute. They really are though. Like if you really think about it, it is just like a little abstract scribble that has its own meaning that only you know what that is. Oh, two, before we get to end up, there is possibly going to be some background noise because my house is under construction and Stan's husband is mowing.
00:02:47
Speaker
He's finally done. So he's done on my end, but well, on my end, I also have a puppy, which you guys know, we've talked about several times and she's being wild and rambunctious downstairs. So hopefully you guys can't hear her, but she's like, there's possible background noise. Excuse me, mom and dad. You brought me into this amazing house and you're tearing it apart. I don't know what's happening, but also like, so we bought her bells, you know,
00:03:13
Speaker
to train her for so she can like let us know when she needs to go outside and go potty. So she has these bells on both the front and the back door and she runs over to them and she'll like boop them and we let her out and she does her business. Well her new thing now is like I'll be like oh let me clean the kitchen and do the dishes. The second I start doing something that doesn't pertain to giving her attention she boops the bells.
00:03:36
Speaker
Like she's like, hello, look at me. And then I'm like, Oh, do you need to go outside? I opened the door. She goes out, turns around and she's like, I'm ready to come back in. And I'm like, I'm trying to do the dishes. So it just becomes this whole like perpetual game of her just booping her bells over and over and over again. Because she knows that if she boops the bells, I have to stop what I'm doing and let her outside. Otherwise, like training her to use her bells is pointless.
00:04:01
Speaker
So yeah, it's great. So if you hear bells, it's also because Anthony's not giving her enough attention. Oh, or she really knows. No one knows. So sorry for background noise. Oh, and my chair is very squeaky. So if you hear that.
00:04:19
Speaker
Look, there's nothing I can do about it. Yeah, it is what it is. What's it called? K glue. I was like, can you not just spray WD-40? Oh, K glue is better. He brews beer. So we have K glue. It's not weird if you brew beer, but I feel like if you don't brew beer and you have K glue, that is kind of weird. That is, yeah.
00:04:40
Speaker
So anyways, back to sigils.

Historical Context of Sigils

00:04:44
Speaker
Historically, a sigil referred to a type of pictorial signature of an angel, a demon, or a spirit. And an example of this would be the Lesser Key of Solomon. So it contains sigils for the princes in the hierarchy of health. The sigils were believed to represent their true names that granted magical practitioners control over them by knowing their true name.
00:05:06
Speaker
Whenever we were, cause I know like our notes are pretty similar, but whenever I came across the mentioning of the lesser Kia Solomon in just the research and stuff, I was like, I want to know more about this book. Like what? And so it's so, I don't know. It's weird. Like I was just like, what the heck? It's crazy. And I need more information. But so basically it was researched and translated from ancient manuscripts.
00:05:32
Speaker
in British museums by S.L. McGregor Mathers, maybe, or Mathers, I'm not sure, and Alastair Crowley. But supposedly, a secret chief of the Rosicrucian Order directed the completion of the book, and the original editor was unable to complete the translations because of a martial assault of the four great princes in hell. I'm not sure what that means, but- Interesting.
00:06:00
Speaker
And the guy's name, the original editor, no one knows what his name is. It's, they just have initials and no one knows what it is. So Mathers or Mathers, not sure, probably Mathers. I'm not sure. I would say Mathers. Like Marshall Mathers. But also someone just started mowing, so sorry guys again.
00:06:21
Speaker
The background noise is wild today. You know what? It's a beautiful Sunday. It really is. It is what it is. So Mathers and Crowley stepped in to basically finish that whole editing process. But, okay, this is where I was just like, what? Like, in hell, it's separated into, there's kings, dukes, princes, marquees, counts, presidents, and a knight. Just the one knight, though.
00:06:49
Speaker
That's quite the hierarchy. It is. And I wonder if like, because I'm sitting here thinking, it reminds me of like, you know, on Family Guy, where they'll cut to like, just a snippet of, oh, we're in hell or something. Yeah. And funny. All I could think of is, so is hell just like a big, like, bureaucratic job?
00:07:08
Speaker
Because that is the hell. That is hell. Because reading all these titles, I'm just like, this just sounds like hell. It does. It does. No. But also, it kind of makes me think of those books, The Kingdom of the Wicked. It does. Yeah. Yeah. Although, I did not see any of it because there's seven princes just like in the books. But I did not see Wrath. I did not see my baby Wrath. Well, I'm not going to hell then. Hell's out for me.
00:07:38
Speaker
right like if if rath's not there i don't want to be there i don't want to send anthony tiktoks that'll be like fan art of rath and he's like who is this um that is our husband thank you very much but also here's roan yeah he's just like literally rath roan and um our baby our baby reese
00:08:01
Speaker
Our top three. I mean, he loves the Batboys and Lucian. I like Lucian too. Or Lucian. It's not Lucian. It's Lucian. It's Lucian. And then I send him stuff that has like Hunt and Rune in it all the time. And he's just like, is this the one, the other book? I'm like, yes, you need to read it. Oh my gosh. Yeah. Rune Dan.
00:08:26
Speaker
My brain cannot hear his name and not do that. That's all I hear

Cultural References and Influences

00:08:34
Speaker
in my head. Keys music.
00:08:37
Speaker
And so if you guys aren't on Book Talk, you have to do that too, because hopefully some of y'all know what we're talking about. If not, they're like, can you get with the fucking book? Shut up and tell me about sigil crafting. And we're like, moon, damn it, crown, pence of them all, fine. Anyway, you know, just a little side note there, but if you guys haven't read kingdom of the wicked and kingdom of the curse, and then the next one's going to come out this fall, I think, right?
00:09:06
Speaker
I saw those books reorder, but I don't remember what it was called. Yeah. I think it's, um, kingdom of the something kingdom of the something, but I haven't ordered it yet. Cause I think whenever it's released, we don't know what our PO box is for Japan. And so I'm just like, I'll just wait until we get there and order it, which sucks. But for
00:09:26
Speaker
Whatever. So historically, sigils were carried on talismans or on pendants. And so this wasn't something like that. Just people who were pagan did like a lot of people from many different cultures and civilizations wore sigils as a way to, you know, it's like a basically a protection spell and.
00:09:48
Speaker
Oftentimes these talismans or pendants with the sigils on them, they were associated with a particular god or goddess. And it reminds me a lot of like the pendants. I don't know what they're called, but the pendants that Catholics wear with like the saints on them, and they still like will wear them today. And I don't know exactly a lot about them because I'm a Catholic and I don't even know what they're called, but that is essentially a sigil.
00:10:11
Speaker
Also, our ancestors would even carve sigils into their houses and in stone. And so you'll see this like the entrance to a house. It might be the first stone laid. It might be above the doorway. And there's a lot of like castles and just like historic homes in Europe and in England we've been to.
00:10:31
Speaker
But recently, one that I remember them talking about this was the, I can't remember the actual name of the house, but where Downton Abbey is filmed, that estate house. Whenever we went on a tour, they were telling us how there are like sigils, but they didn't call them that, but they're like markings from
00:10:54
Speaker
whatever the stone, the first stones were laid as like a protection over the house, which I thought was pretty interesting. It's pretty cool. It makes me think of when we were in Germany.
00:11:04
Speaker
I want to say it was around like Christmas time. Kids go door to door and they bring chalk and they draw blessings on your doors. And it's all like symbols and stuff. It's not like a Bible verse, you know? Right. And I don't, I don't know what they call them, but it's just like, it was explained to us that they're like putting blessings and good fortune and good luck on your doors. And I was like, Oh, that's really cute.
00:11:28
Speaker
That is really cute. And that is totally a sigil. I was very confused. The first time they did it, I'm like, who are these children and why are they drawing on my house? Like we're protecting you. Yeah. And I was like, Oh, that's really cute, actually.
00:11:55
Speaker
Oh, I like that. Yeah, so I mean, sigils show up and like we've discussed and given examples of already in many different historical contexts and in different cultures, oftentimes they would use, especially in like
00:12:11
Speaker
Western or European societies would use former runic alphabets for their sigils. But yeah, so, you know, a little bit of history, a little bit of background on

Modern Sigil Crafting and Techniques

00:12:22
Speaker
it. In this part, you might actually know better than I do on this because I came across two different like outlooks on it, essentially. So the first one I came across said that today's sigil crafting comes out of chaos matter.
00:12:35
Speaker
And that these are different from historical roots because they don't call upon like a particular spirit or like a demon or angel or whatever. But they instead use like personal intentions and goals to formulate and charge customized symbols. But then I was reading the grimoire for the green witch that section on sigils and they said that.
00:12:57
Speaker
sigils are sympathetic magic. So I don't really know, like, and they, they described it as like, this is this in that book, but like online, I couldn't find anything else that supported that. I just found that the chaos magic portion popped up a lot. Yeah. And that one in particular, they, they call sigils sympathetic magic, saying that like, because it's your intention and you're drawing the symbol, it means this is this, which is how they define sympathetic magic.
00:13:26
Speaker
I mean, I can see it both ways, like, because I feel like with it all, it just kind of like it all correlates and ties together is how I think, because I know like with Chaos Magic, and this is something that, you know, maybe we'll do an episode fully on Chaos Magic, like in the future, but a lot of it is like taking bits and pieces from
00:13:47
Speaker
other types of beliefs and kind of meshing it together. So I can see that like, and especially if, as you were saying, how they described it as sympathetic magic and you're putting your intention and stuff into it. I mean, that's, that's essentially all it is. Yeah. Yeah. So I was like, is it sympathetic? Is it chaos? I don't really know. I'm just going to bring it up that way. Yeah.
00:14:12
Speaker
And then German poly mathematician and physician Henry Cornelius Agrippa detailed the many functions and powers of sigils in a book called the occult philosophy, which is known as a magical encyclopedia of the Renaissance.
00:14:27
Speaker
And it brought together Greek and Roman occultism drawn from classical sources with the medieval Jewish Kabbalah. And it aimed to provide technical explanations and procedures for practical magic, which I thought was really cool. Like just a cool little extra side piece for like somebody who is because I feel like this is what we run into a lot with witchcraft is that it's like
00:14:48
Speaker
You know, witchcraft itself is pretty sciency in a sense, but a lot of times people will discredit it and be like, Oh, that's not real or whatever. But this is like a well-known. Poly mathematician and physician who's like, Oh, by the way, here's all these definitions of this occult stuff. So I always find that kind of stuff really cool.
00:15:08
Speaker
And then the word sigils originated from an English artist named Austin Osman Spare. And his ideas later became the basis of chaos magic in general. Yeah. And as you know, we were kind of discussing what chaos magic is just a little bit more on that. It really just teaches that the essence of magic is that perceptions are conditioned by beliefs. The world as we perceive it.
00:15:32
Speaker
can be changed by those beliefs. And so that reminds me exactly what you were saying with sympathetic magic. And so I think it's all just kind of, it's all just tied together. Yeah, like it all weaves together, essentially. So in the 1900s, Alistair Crowley invited Spare to join his Thelemite magical order.
00:15:51
Speaker
But Spare left after a short time due to despising the strict structure and the ceremonial magic. He went on to write the Book of Pleasures stating that, so he said this about the Thelamite, the people like in the Thelamite like magical order and I found it so funny I couldn't leave it out.
00:16:10
Speaker
He said these magicians whose insincerity is their safety are but the unemployed dandies of the brothels. Magic is but one's natural ability to attract without asking. Ceremony what is unaffected its doctrine and negation of others. The dandies of the brothels like I lost it when I read that I was like this guy is hilarious. Yeah.
00:16:38
Speaker
So yeah, he definitely was. But that quote just like it put me over the edge when I was doing research, I was like, fucking cracking up. And Anthony was like, what is so funny? Because I'm just in my office by myself researching and dying laughing at this dude.
00:16:55
Speaker
So Spare's interest was medieval grimoires that included the Lesser Key of Solomon, which we've already mentioned, but he wanted to adopt sigils for personal practice and not for summoning spirits. So basically what he did was he simplified the Enochian magic and made sex an integral part.
00:17:12
Speaker
by communicating with the sexual energy of his unconscious self, resulting in word sigils that he called sigil's action. He died in 1956 before sigils became popular in the 1990s so he didn't even get to see like the fact that
00:17:27
Speaker
He created something that other people were going to be like, Oh, right. And I heard that like he died like basically in like very like obscurity, like whenever he died, he was, I mean, cause he was like a prolific artist for a while and stuff. And then just kind of is created and then poor guy, then he never even got to like see all of this amazing stuff that he know.
00:17:52
Speaker
I had not heard of him until we did research for this topic and this man was wild. Very wild. And I had seen his art. So my dad was a fan of Alistair Crowley and then he collected works and books and stuff from all different
00:18:14
Speaker
and practices and stuff. But I know that he had at least, I know it wasn't original by any means, but I know he had, when I looked up, what was his name again? Austin Osman Spare. When I looked up Mr. Spare, I started looking at his art.
00:18:31
Speaker
And I'm like, I've seen this stuff before. Where have I seen this? And I'm like, Oh, I see this. Like my dad used to have some of this art, but like, not like a lot of the naked stuff, but like with the guy, like with his hands on his face, like over his face. So he was very, he was a very sexual man. That's just putting it all plainly. That's the word I'm looking for. Not easy, but clean. But also he was very easy too. Yeah.
00:19:01
Speaker
Ah, but yeah.

Creating Sigils: A Step-by-Step Guide

00:19:03
Speaker
So basic information as it relates to sigils. Sigils are really easy to do. Anybody can do this, whether you're in the broom closet or you're out and you're proud and everybody, you want everybody to know you're a witch. It doesn't matter. Anyone can do this and they can be very powerful because it's really just setting your intention and you don't need anything. Like you don't even need a piece of paper or anything. You could do this with literally just your finger and some water or
00:19:31
Speaker
Whatever it is that you're trying to create, you can do this with anything that you have on you right now you can create a sigil with. And one of the things you know you mentioned already about how like just so much of witchcraft ties back into science.
00:19:46
Speaker
the act of performing a sigil is a psychological tool. It helps with your confidence. It helps as a motivator. It helps to remind you of not just your abilities, but what you're wanting to manifest. And so it can be a great way to kind of kickstart your mind to get the things that you want to manifest into your life.
00:20:07
Speaker
And I know, I know I have this in my notes later, so I'm not going to like go in depth, but a lot of the backing behind sigil work is that you create this image that you kind of put into your mind and then that goes into your unconscious. So you're not supposed to like keep thinking about it.
00:20:22
Speaker
But unconsciously, it's already there. So that's I mean, I do talk about that later. So I'm not going to keep going right now. But I think that eventually said multiple times because I well, yeah, it has you have to understand that part of it. Yep.
00:20:38
Speaker
So setting your intentions when crafting a sigil is crucial and it's the beginning for creating your sigil. To craft a sigil, you need to come up with a phrase or a sentence that captures what your intentions are or what you want to achieve. And this doesn't need to be something like crazy. You don't need to like write a novel about every little detail, but just be specific. It could be something as simple as like, my home is safe, something like that.
00:21:03
Speaker
like if you're trying to do like a protection schedule you can say like my home is safe and then you'll go through the whole process which we'll explain as we go because it is a whole process but so nothing like too crazy or overly detailed just something simple something in the present not in the future those things are important when you're setting these intentions
00:21:24
Speaker
So sigils are visual depictions of intentions and they're a way to go around your conscious mind and connect with your unconscious self. The sigils themselves do not hold magic, but they act as a mode of transportation to your unconscious. And when you charge them with energies that create the magic, that's what's helping like keep that in your unconscious mind. So you're not thinking about it like inherently, but you know, it's there.
00:21:49
Speaker
So I found this quote and it's by Ray Sherwin and he is one of the co-founders of Chaos Magic. And he said, the magician acknowledges a desire. He lists the appropriate symbols and arranges them into an easily visualized glyph.
00:22:05
Speaker
Using any of the Gnostic techniques, he reigns through the sigil and then by force of will, hurls it into his subconscious from where the sigil can begin to work unencumbered by desire. So we create sigils of our own intentions and then we allow our subconscious to read them as opposed to like our conscious mind. And this is similar to tarot in the aspect that each card has an extensive meaning tied to them. And we use the image of the card for our subconscious reading versus like
00:22:34
Speaker
the card having the meaning listed on it. We just know that each card means what it means and we can tie that to different things within our lives or things that we encounter in the future.
00:22:46
Speaker
So with that, there's various types of sigils. Like there's not just one type of sigil or one way to create a sigil. The first one is word sigils. And this is where you write your intention being as specific as possible. Like I talked about earlier, something short, something that's in the present and uses positive talk because you don't want it to be like a negative thing. You don't want to give it negative energy. That's it. Yeah.
00:23:09
Speaker
I mean, that's like, I feel like one of the most important things because oftentimes too, and I've been guilty of this where say, if I'm trying to do a spell work or a sigil crafting or anything and say, I'm trying to increase my self-confidence or self-love or anything like that, if you are, if you have like negative self-talk in your head,
00:23:30
Speaker
That is going to not result in any good spell. You have to actually like believe it and say it and understand that your words and your thoughts have power. And so being positive is I think one of the biggest.
00:23:46
Speaker
biggest things that you can do. And then, you know, obviously we've discussed this already. We discussed this in depth in our manifestation episode, but really it's, it's like with any sort of manifestation that you do using the I am statements, using it in present tense. Don't say, don't do a sigil and craft it up with the statement of a, I will blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Don't do that because that's never going to happen. You have to make sure that you're, you spoke that into existence. Like it's,
00:24:14
Speaker
happening right now for you in the present, you already have it. I feel like when you say it as an I will, it just keeps it in that perpetual state of being something in the future, not something like whereas you say I am, you're saying like this, this is me now. Yeah, moving out of that, you know, I'll do it later.
00:24:33
Speaker
And it's like, I feel like too, if you're saying something as I will, you are putting it out there that you're not ready to receive that yet. And so like, if you're saying like, I will be an amazing social worker, I will live in this house or something like that, you're, you're setting it up like you're not ready for that. But if you are saying,
00:24:58
Speaker
You know, I am powerful. I am strong. I am at a healthy body weight, whatever it is, your goal. I mean, speak it like it's happening to you right now and that you've already achieved it. And once you have your I am statement, or like I was saying, it could be something like if you're wanting protection.
00:25:18
Speaker
you don't want to use I am safe and you want it to be like a home production you could say my home is safe something like that. Once you have that you're going to take the letters and make them into an abstract symbol so like you know take all the letters and you can choose to cross out duplicate letters you can cross out vowels first if you want to do that or you can use all the letters there's no like one
00:25:42
Speaker
right way to do this. There's no wrong way to do it. It's however it works for you, but just take them and make
00:25:49
Speaker
little like abstract picture out of them and that's essentially your sigil. Then there's pictorial sigils and this is the use of images to convey an intention instead of words. So Spare created this technique believing that using images instead of words would make it easier for the sigil to connect with your subconscious. An example of this would be using a heart for love.
00:26:13
Speaker
maybe an eye for intuition or divination or a shield or antlers for protection. I really like that. And then also too, if you're wanting to maybe attract new opportunities for your business or wealth or whatever it is that you're trying to attract, like for your career, you can use a currency symbol, whatever the currency is in your country that you live in as a symbol for that.
00:26:40
Speaker
And then the next one is magic squares. I don't know if you know a whole lot about these because I tried to look a little more in depth on the different ones and I feel like I ended up more confused in the end than I did when I first started. But essentially, magic squares became popular during the Middle Ages.
00:27:00
Speaker
And they started appearing in work and literature from various subjects, including mathematics, astrology, occultism, alchemy, and like various others. So one of them is the low shoe grid, and this came from Chinese culture. And it's basically a three by three number grid where every direction totals 15. But I couldn't find explanations of how they used that to make sigils, just that they used it for it. So I'm not sure like,
00:27:29
Speaker
what the symbolism of 15 is or how they created a sigil out of it. But that was interesting. But I have no clue in there. Yeah. The other one was Seder squares. And this came from Roman times. So it's basically a super palindrome grid that can be read both like left to right or up and down. And it contains five words. And the words were Seder, Arepo, Tenet, Opera, and Rodas.
00:28:00
Speaker
And so they basically put all of those words in the grid, but it reads all of those words in every direction. I really like that. Yeah. But again, I don't know how they used it to create sigils, but it is attributed to sigil crafting. So I would probably have to spend a day doing more in-depth research on it. In my mind, by the time I was done doing what I did on those, my mind was like, yeah, we're not going there.
00:28:31
Speaker
And then another one is magic circles. So essentially you draw a circle and then you write the letters of the alphabet along the end side, like the inner ring of the circle, and you mark your first and last letter in your intention, like your I am statement. And then you draw a line to each of the letters from the first letter to the last, and that unique design that you end up with is your sigil.
00:29:00
Speaker
which I have seen this one worked before. This isn't how I've done sigils, but it is something that when I was researching originally, like when I was like, oh, I wanna learn how to do sigils, this is one of the versions that I did come across. And it's, I feel like a pretty easy one for somebody who's just beginning to. Yeah, I really like this method. And I've heard it also referred to as the witch's circle. I like that. Yeah, I do too. It makes me just,
00:29:27
Speaker
You're like, I'm being witchy. But it is kind of hard to visualize it whenever you're just talking about it. So we'll put like pictures or a video or something up whenever we do publish this episode. But there are tons of videos on witches circles or magic circles on YouTube or TikTok or wherever you want to search or even just Google. Yeah. I think this is a really awesome way to incorporate sigils into
00:29:54
Speaker
your daily practice or monthly practice or how often you practice because it's easy and it's kind of cool. And I like the, like actually making that circle and like doing all of the work with it, that is so relaxing. And then if you're sitting there and you are, you know, visualizing and it's going to be like a 20, 30 minute process, super easy process, but it really gets you into that mindset so that you can keep on with the sigil and activate it. And, you know,
00:30:24
Speaker
do everything. So I also just realized that I was so focused on making sure that I included other forms of sigils that I didn't even include the one that I use. So and it's very I feel like it's similar to this. So it fits in here. But basically, and again, this is going to be hard to visualize without seeing it, you basically take and you draw a little grid and you number it, you can number it as far as you want to. If you want to do like
00:30:51
Speaker
one through five or one through eight. I usually do one through eight at the top of your grid and then you go underneath and you put your letters under each number like one letter under each number all the way up to eight and then you go back to one and that's your next row of letters and so you do your I am statement
00:31:09
Speaker
And you cross out, well, I cross out any vowels or duplicates. You don't have to cross anything out if you don't want to, but I cross out duplicate letters and vowels. And then you draw a circle that you divide into eight quadrants. And for each letter that's left over, you write down the number code essentially. So what, what numbers are left over and you use those numbers to draw your schedule on your circle that's divided into eight pieces.
00:31:39
Speaker
I love that. Again, it's visualizing that from just hearing the description of it is not essentially easy to do, but you can look up again on YouTube copious videos of people that do this, which is where I found it. But yeah, it, I feel like that one's like the closest to the magic circle out of all the other ones that we have listed in here, but that's, that's how I do mine. Yeah. Another one that I do, but I'm also very tedious as a person. I love tedious tasks.
00:32:09
Speaker
I think it's, I think it's cool. Like I do a lot of the, um, you had already mentioned this where it's basically you, you use a letters to make an abstract symbol just based off of like, just kind of writing out your IM statement, crossing out the duplicates, crossing out the vowels. And then with what's left over creating.
00:32:31
Speaker
just something unique based off of the shape of the letters. I like doing that one too. And that one is, I think probably the quickest one to do, but I love doing the circle ones too, like the witches circle or whatever, like magic circles, whatever you want to call it. I love doing that just because it's relaxing.
00:32:51
Speaker
So that's why I feel like the method that I use it's, it's relaxing to me to be doing a tedious task like that, just to be able to shut my mind down. And that's the only thing I'm focused on. And I also read with the, I didn't mention this earlier and I might've actually put it later in my notes. So my bad if I did, but with the one where you use the letters to create an abstract, you can pair similar letters together, like R and P.
00:33:17
Speaker
Instead of having like an R shape and a P shape in your sigil, you could just, you know, the top half of that R is your P and then it's also an R. So you don't have to use them all if you don't want to. You can get really creative with it. Yep, you sure can. And then the last one that I have listed is automatic writing sigils. So this is a technique that allows you to just relax, meditate, and then focus on your intention or your desire.
00:33:45
Speaker
So basically you're going to get a piece of paper and a pencil or pen or whatever you're going to keep a loose grip on your pencil and just let it move on your paper using your intuition.
00:33:56
Speaker
to pull out the images and shapes that you see in your subconscious. So you just use this image that you're just automatically letting come out and flow onto the paper as your sigil. Again, I thrive on chaos and I don't think I could ever calm my brain enough to do something like that. I'm always, even when I try to meditate, it's like, oh, I gotta do this. Oh, yesterday I did this.
00:34:22
Speaker
I've not tried it before, but I would love to try and do that. Yeah. Maybe. Maybe in the future I'll try and do it. Because I think automatic writing I think is so cool. I think I've done a lot of ghost shows and stuff like ghost. Yeah. They use it to like, get messages from the dead. But I didn't know it was, I guess I didn't realize that it also could be used for this. But
00:34:52
Speaker
So crafting a sigil itself is composed of two phases.

Activating and Using Sigils

00:34:56
Speaker
So your first phase is going to be the construction. So this is where the sigil is drawn and it's created and it's given like a physical form. It becomes a physical object. So choose your duration.
00:35:09
Speaker
right? So how long do you want the sigil to last for? Is this going to be something that's destructible? So it's activated by being destroyed. Destroying the sigil gives it a burst of energy that gives it the power to do what you're needing to do. So basically for this you would write your sigil on paper and then
00:35:27
Speaker
do something like burn it or carve it into food and then eat it, which I would have never thought to do that. Like, Oh, let me carve a sigil into this carrot and then eat this carrot or something. Yeah. Something as simple as that. Um, I also read like carving it into a candle, like the candle top and then burning it so that it melts away, activates it.
00:35:50
Speaker
If you want it to be temporary, where it eventually disappears with time, you can draw them on your skin with a marker or carving them into a candle again, that's burned and then melted down. Yeah. Or even like using chalk. This is something that I do because I don't own my home. And so I'm not going to put anything permanent on any of the stones or the ground, but like using chalk, you can put protective sigils or any kind of sigil.
00:36:15
Speaker
or symbol on like your doorstep or like on that bricks outside your home above the door.
00:36:22
Speaker
Anything like that is great too. Yeah. If you want them to be permanent, these are made to last and they're meant to be active for long periods of time and they'll occasionally need to be recharged over time as well. So for this, you could do something as simple as like carving them into pottery as an art piece or writing them on a paper that you keep somewhere like under a piece of furniture or on a shelf in a book, something like that.
00:36:47
Speaker
I really liked that idea because I had never thought of like putting it in a book or like behind a picture frame. And I love that idea so much. Whenever I think about permanent, I just think of like a tattoo and like you could get a sigil. Like, I mean, how amazing would that be? You create your sigil and then you get it tattooed on yourself. Like, yeah, that would be cool to tell.
00:37:08
Speaker
Yeah and I came across the art one a lot too where like people will paint a picture or draw a picture and they work it into their art piece or they'll take and put it on a separate piece of paper that they attach to the back of that piece of art and then hang it on their wall in their house or hide it behind a photo in a photo frame kind of thing. So the second thing is drawing the sigil. So this is where you're going to define and write your intentions into a sentence using the present tense
00:37:37
Speaker
like I am, remember not to be broad and spell out exactly what your intention is. I know we've said that a lot in this episode alone, and we've said it before in other episodes, but it's really important that when you're doing this type of magic, that you're being very specific, staying positive and writing in present tense. Once it's written, cross out all the vowels and any repeated letters within your sentence.
00:38:00
Speaker
You don't have to do this step. This is, this is one of those. It's like some people do, some people don't. So whichever you feel is right for that situation. If you feel like crossing them out, cross them out. And then you're going to take your remaining letters and put them into an abstract symbol. You can also use the number grade, like I talked about earlier, the one that I use where you, you know.
00:38:21
Speaker
make a grid that's either like one through eight or whatever number that you want to across, add your letters underneath each number and then create the sigil by using a circle divided into the amount of numbers that you did for your grid. So, and again, I know that's me saying it is probably more confusing than anything, but we can post some stuff that will help you understand exactly how we do that.
00:38:46
Speaker
And really there's no right or wrong way to do it. I mean, you can use some of the methods that we've talked about for crafting your sigil, or you can create your own letter or grid system outside of any of the things that we've mentioned.
00:38:59
Speaker
It's all that matters is that it feels right to you. These are just guidelines. And then you also need to charge the sigil. So by charging your sigil, you're giving it energy. So there's obviously different ways that you can charge the sigil based on the type of sigil it is too. You can just hold it in your hand. So if you write it on a piece of paper, hold that piece of paper in your hands and visualize warm light flowing into the sigil to charge it. You can place it under a lit candle. You can dance chants.
00:39:29
Speaker
clap, like really, honestly, anything that you feel will charge your sigil is going to charge it. It's the energy that you're putting into it, your intention. So do whatever feels right. And you can even use like incense to charge your sigil. One of my favorite ways is to just repeat the intention that I used when I crafted my sigil. And I just repeat it like a mantra as I'm charging. So.
00:39:51
Speaker
That I think really helps me get into that, which you mindset and by me using my words, words are very powerful. So that's what I like to do to charge it. So once you've done charging your sigil, you have to activate it, right? So activating your sigil will depend on what type of sigil you created, whether it's destructible or permanent, and there are many different ways to activate it. So.
00:40:16
Speaker
The two main ones is active activation and passive activation. For active activation, essentially destruction would be activating it. So you could do this through burning or eating it, tearing it up, whatever that, however you're destructing it, that's the perfect way to activate it. I guess that's what I'm trying to say. Destroy it. So obviously fire safety is important. So if you are using fire, make sure you're
00:40:43
Speaker
that you have a cauldron or other fire safe bowl.
00:40:46
Speaker
Especially if you're burning it inside, you can do this outside in a bonfire or if you have a fire pit or something or a fireplace, but also be a great way of distracting your sigil for active activation. This can also be done through sex magic, which that's all I put about sex magic in this episode. You know, I, I think that that would be a really interesting topic to cover on a full episode later on. But, um, yeah, so sex magic can.
00:41:13
Speaker
be this is a form of active activation. And that's essentially like when we were talking about spare earlier, he did a lot with sex magic and sigils. So yeah.
00:41:24
Speaker
That's why I said he was kind of a wild one. And then as far as passive activation, this is great for any of the permanent schedules. And so we talked about this earlier, but obviously you keep it somewhere safe, like behind a bookshelf or I'm sorry, behind a picture frame in your bookshelf, in a book.
00:41:46
Speaker
however you're wanting to keep it underneath a piece of furniture. This method of activation is also perfect for long-term goals or anything that you needed to be reminded of constantly, that way you don't forget it. So it's not the type of sigils that you are going to just say it, get it into your subconscious, and it's done. These are the type of sigils or the manifestations that you have to put in effort for every day, and you have to put that energy into it every day.
00:42:15
Speaker
So ways that you can do this is drawing it every day, like whether you have like a journal or even just notes on your phone using your finger. You could even like write it on your shower or like the mirrors in your bathroom with condensation, especially if you're doing like, if you have a glamour sigil that you're wanting to incorporate every day. Those would be great ways to passively activate the sigil, especially if like I said, it's for a long-term goal that you're trying to achieve.
00:42:43
Speaker
You can even do this with your makeup with like your foundation or concealer. You can draw the sigil on your face and then blend it in. Yeah. So yeah, it's, and I think that's perfect because, you know, say that was your like long-term sigil that you want to like a long-term goal and say it's health or just like self-confidence.
00:43:05
Speaker
You can have, I mean, that's not going to come to you just completely overnight. That's something you have to work on every day and put that energy into it. So say you craft that sigil for self-confidence, you can put it everywhere. You can have it on, hanging up on like your desk, or like you were just saying, put it on your face whenever you're putting on your makeup or.
00:43:26
Speaker
stirring it into your food, stirring it into your coffee. Those are all great passive activation methods to keep that intention on your mind every day. And that's what I mean essentially by the passive activation.
00:43:39
Speaker
Additionally, sigils can be combined with other magical skills. So you can create a sigil that coincides with the moon phases. An example of this would be like prosperity magic is best done on a waxing or on a full moon. So if your sigil ties to prosperity, create it and charge it at that time. Or you can combine color magic with your sigils.
00:44:00
Speaker
So again, for prosperity, the best color to use is green. What is it? It's gold and purple, I think also. So you could honestly use any of those, but use that color to draw your sigil or draw it on a piece of paper. That's one of those colors like green, gold, or purple. Or you can use a bay leaf. A bay leaf is green. You can write it on there.
00:44:19
Speaker
and bay leaves are used in all kinds of magic. So if you're creating a sigil with letters, this is actually what I was talking about earlier. You can combine similar letters like R and P together instead of having both of them in there. You can combine upper and lowercase letters. And if a particular letter isn't working or it's just not fitting into the design that you're creating, just trust your intuition and leave that letter out.
00:44:43
Speaker
You can also add stylized elements like dots and swirls and hearts to personalize your sigil to yourself and your intentions. Alchemist often created sigils to correspond and reflect a planet's energy and knowledge. They were later used in rituals to represent or summon the planet's powers.
00:45:02
Speaker
There's not a definitive answer on if a sigil needs to be destroyed or not. I know we talked about doing that if you're wanting it to be just like a quick use sigil, you burn it, or eat it, or tear it up, or however you destroy it. But if it's a temporary one, there's no set rule that you have to destroy it. It's believed by some that destroying the sigil allows the intention to be released.
00:45:28
Speaker
so that it can fulfill its purpose. You can do any of the following to destroy your sigil should you feel that that's what you need to do. So again, you can burn it, tear it up, just release it into a stream river or water of choice was one of the options, but I would say don't litter. I don't believe that you should do that option. I thought about leaving it out and then I was like, no, it was in the, it was in this particular piece I'm going to include it, but I'm going to tell people don't litter. Okay.
00:45:57
Speaker
don't do it. You can bury it, release it into the wind again, if it's paper, don't litter, okay? Erase it if you wrote it in pencil, blow on it, it said to destroy it and I was like, are we writing it in the sand? I wasn't really sure. Oh, yeah, I guess. So like maybe if you write it in the sand or, or if you like create it with like little
00:46:18
Speaker
flowers or something. Yeah, like blow it out that way. Yeah, that would make sense. And then some creative ways to use schedules is you can place them in your phone case. In kitchen witchery, you can burn them into your wooden spoons, stir them into tea or soup or any food really, spread icing onto a cake
00:46:39
Speaker
or carve it into a loaf of bread. Like this, I could literally go on for days on different examples, but essentially like whatever you're working with in the kitchen, whatever you're making, you can put the sigil onto that item. And then, you know, like with the cake, you draw it in frosting and then brush it away and smooth out the frosting. You can write it inside of the bottom of your shoes.
00:47:00
Speaker
so that you're always walking towards that positive I am statement and your intentions. You can stitch it into your clothing or your fabrics for a pillowcase, sachets, etc. if you are crafty like that. I, however, am not a crafty sewer, so that would not be an option for me.
00:47:19
Speaker
You can carve it into wood that you burn in your fireplace. And like we said earlier, you could draw it or tattoo it onto your skin or like in Glamour Magic, you can put it on your skin with foundation and then blend it in. You can write it on a bay leaf if you intend to burn it. Like I said earlier, you can paint it onto rocks and place them around your home for protection or carry them with you. That is great if you are renting a house. That is perfect. Yeah. Yeah.
00:47:45
Speaker
You can carve them into your candles, write them in your grimoire, use water from a simmer pot. Like I do this sometimes, I'll make a simmer pot, let it go all day, and then I will take some of the water out, let it cool, and then use the water to do sigils like on my front door or my windows. You can do it like window panes, mirrors, altars, like literally anywhere you can use this to draw sigils.
00:48:09
Speaker
Yeah, so you can use that water from a simmer pot and use moon water, Florida water, really anything to draw sigils that you don't want them to be visible. And really just sigils, you know, they're not as scary or anything that, I'm not gonna say scary, but you know, there's some topics and there's some, there's just some topics in witchcraft and paganism that seem kind of not scary, but just like, oh, this is confusing.

I don't know what I'm doing. I'll never know how to do this. You, anybody can do this. Like we said, it's easy to get overwhelmed until I find like a lot of times if it's something that I'm like, this seems like a lot. If I go on YouTube and watch somebody's like sigils for a beginner, you know, like something that's like a, it's obviously meant to be like teaching someone that is trying to learn it that doesn't know anything about it. It makes it a lot easier. Yeah.
