00:01:09
Speaker
And I can't wait to see where this journey takes us.
00:01:15
Speaker
Hey friend, welcome back to all There You Are. Today, really was like, what do I want to bring to the table and talk about today? And laughter.
00:01:26
Speaker
Laughter is what I feel just needs to be shared. Why? Because I don't feel the world as a whole or you know, even on my own individual level, I don't do enough of this.
00:01:37
Speaker
What I do catch myself doing is laughing at myself all the time. But because I thought like, yeah, I do it. But no, really, if I'm being honest, it's like that nervous little laughter.
00:01:51
Speaker
You know, the kind like when you mess up words in a meeting or you trip over something, obviously, when there was nothing there in front of you, right? Like out in public and you're like, totally meant to do that.
00:02:05
Speaker
But today we're talking about the good kind of laughter, you know, like the belly hurting, tear streaming, it can't breathe. Yeah, that kind that lifts your soul. You know, the ones that you get when you hang out with your best friends over a good margarita night.
00:02:21
Speaker
Yes, that is what I know I personally crave for more of. So guess what? You know, I was looking through every um like some things and trying to like educate and find, you know, what health benefits or like how good is laughter truly for us, right?
00:02:39
Speaker
And I found like through searching through things that it helps to significantly reduce our cortisol. And now us as women, you know, like, well, and men too, but more so us as women, we like to hold that cortisol right in our belly.
00:02:54
Speaker
So if we can just learn to laugh some more, That sounds pretty amazing to help get rid of that,

Overcoming Barriers to Joy

00:03:00
Speaker
right? You know, because cortisol is that stress hormone that wreaks havoc on our body when we live and ah left unchecked, right?
00:03:09
Speaker
So yes, jiggle, you know, the in i can't speak today, but giggling helps basically give you a free therapy session.
00:03:20
Speaker
I don't know, that sounds like really cool you know benefits to me. So also the research has shown that laughter, it can help release endorphins, aka the feel-good hormones, reduces stress, anxiety, and depression.
00:03:37
Speaker
It can help boost your life satisfaction. It can improve your immune system, enhance creativity and learning. It can even help your heart, like... whenever you're having like a little mini cardio workout.
00:03:52
Speaker
So if you've been needing a reason why to go watch a silly video or, you know, call that one hilarious friend, now you have permission, you know, go and do it because science says it's good for you.
00:04:06
Speaker
I know that it might not be easy for everyone to laugh. Maybe you're going through something that's heavy. Maybe you've been hurt or you've been wired to be more reserved.
00:04:18
Speaker
And that's completely okay. Not laughing as much doesn't mean there's something wrong with you.

Laughter as Emotional Release

00:04:24
Speaker
There's just a lot of reasons why someone might not laugh easily. You could be going through some depression or anxiety and that can quiet your joy.
00:04:33
Speaker
You could even be like cultural norms, you know, or your upbringing, right? And you might have been taught that you need to keep it together. Some people process humor differently or just, you know, are just naturally more inward.
00:04:47
Speaker
And certain, you know, neurological conditions can even affect our the way that laughter shows up or maybe ah it doesn't even at all. It's not about forcing laughter.
00:04:58
Speaker
It's about we need to learn to create space so that it feels safe, right? And working on this space makes us ready for when the laughter does show up.
00:05:09
Speaker
I know for my own journey, as I was sharing, you know, I don't laugh a whole lot. I have a hard time like finding comedians funny. Occasionally I do find one. I mean, I just sent, you know, the reel to my husband the other day in our friend group. I was like, look, guys, I really can laugh.
00:05:26
Speaker
We've been to some comedy shows and I'm usually sitting there going, really? Really? Why do people think this stuff is funny? But like I said, we're all wired a little different and that's totally okay, right?
00:05:39
Speaker
So like I said, there was a time when i didn't laugh a lot, you know, not because I didn't want to, but I just didn't feel like I could, right? I was so caught up in everything um in my own world and just feeling like I had to hold things together. And there just wasn't room for silliness or lightness.
00:05:59
Speaker
But something shifted then I allowed myself to, you know not take everything so seriously. Some people might be saying, hey Danielle, has this really even happened?
00:06:13
Speaker
You know, but I have. I've learned to stop judging these nervous giggles and just let them be a part of me. And even now, laughter shows up for me like a release valve, right? It helps you to exhale when you've just been holding everything in for way too long.

Bringing Laughter into Your Life

00:06:29
Speaker
So some encouragement to you. So whether whether you are someone who laughs so hard that you startle people. Yes, yes, I see you. And I know my friends who are listening. Yes, when I have my margaritas, you for sure can hear me across the room. And I will but be one of those people whose laughter you're like, what is going on?
00:06:51
Speaker
Oh man, or you might be someone who hasn't had a real laugh in a while. Again, this is your reminder. Laughter is powerful and you do deserve joy in your life.
00:07:03
Speaker
So I want you to try to invite it in this week. You know, it might be through ah funny podcast or a movie. It might be some time with someone who makes you feel safe to be silly Or even just when you walk by and smile at yourself in the mirror.
00:07:20
Speaker
I mean, it doesn't have to take a whole lot, right? And if you've forgotten how to laugh, that's okay. Start by breathing. Start by noticing moments of lightness. It will come back to you.
00:07:32
Speaker
You're not broken, friend. You're not broken at all. You're just human. All right. Because I can't leave you without a few laughs, right? And because my friend loves, I mean, loves, loves dad jokes.
00:07:46
Speaker
You know who you are. So yeah, I'm going to leave you with a few. First one. Why don't skeletons fight each other? Because they don't have the guts.
00:08:02
Speaker
did the zero, one more time, what? Why? did the zero say to the eight? Nice belt. This one's really good.
00:08:13
Speaker
Why did the Scarecrow win an award? Because he was outstanding in his field. man, I only know 25 letters of the alphabet.
00:08:28
Speaker
I don't know why. And then the last one for you. Why wasn't the cactus invited to hang out with the mushrooms? He wasn't a fun guy.
00:08:39
Speaker
I know, I know. They're so bad, but they're amazing. You're welcome. So your takeaway this week, I want you to not underestimate the power of a little laughter.
00:08:53
Speaker
It might seem small, but it's doing big works inside of you. And remember, even a nervous giggle is better than silence.
