Alien Anita's Return and 2018 Planning
00:00:23
Speaker
Hey, guys, welcome to the Alien Anita podcast. I'm your host, Alien, and I'm so excited to have you join me for this week's podcast. I know if you have been following along with me from the very beginning, you know that I have been on a small hiatus from podcasting and I have a really, really good reason why.
00:00:44
Speaker
I have took time away because I needed to actually rest. I had been moving at the speed of light in 2017 and so much stuff has happened in this year and it has been a very interesting year for me so I decided to take a break because I needed to rest my body and not only that, I got into a really bad car accident. I was on the expressway and a guy clipped the front end of my car and
00:01:12
Speaker
I hit a concrete wall and told him my car and I actually got injured during that car crash and so I needed to just take some time to rest my body. But nevertheless, I wanted to come back and give you an end of the year podcast because I think that it's crucial to plan for your next year.
00:01:31
Speaker
I believe that 2018 is going to be a year of great movement and if you are not prepared for what's to come you're going to miss the move and so I would hate for my listeners to be unprepared for their next year.
The Importance of Writing Goals
00:01:45
Speaker
So I wanted to talk to you guys about writing out your goals and your plans for 2018. The Bible speaks very clearly about people without plans. They say the people without a vision shall perish and so you have to have plans
00:01:59
Speaker
Also, it says that you need to write the vision and make it plain. So you need to go ahead and start to write out your decrees, your prayers, the things that you want to see happen in 2018 so that when it comes to pass, you won't be surprised.
Understanding SMART Goals
00:02:15
Speaker
And so I wanted to give you something that I kind of do that when I kind of write out my plans, I use something called smart goals.
00:02:24
Speaker
And smart goals is an acronym. It is for specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. And so if you don't have those elements in your goals, it's really just a dream. Honestly, if you don't write out your goals, then they're just dreams in your head and they're just kind of floating around. So you need to take time to write out what you want to see. So I'm going to walk you through what smart goals are.
00:02:53
Speaker
The first one is S specific. So you need to specify what you want to do in 2018. So don't just say I want to start a business. Okay, you want to start a business, but how? What kind of business?
00:03:08
Speaker
What would you like to see happen with this business? Be very specific in this area to target the thing. If you want to save money, don't just say, I just want to save money in 2018. Be specific. I want to save $5,000, which breaks down to have a month a month, have a month a week, have a month a day.
00:03:28
Speaker
You want to be specific so that you can hit these targets every day and you can actually measure yourself.
Making Goals Measurable and Attainable
00:03:34
Speaker
Which brings me to the next point. Make sure that this goal is measurable. You want to make sure that you are measuring your success or your failures. You want to see what keeps you caught up and what keeps you moving forward so that as you progress forward, you know what works for you and what doesn't.
00:03:52
Speaker
The next thing you want to do is write, make sure your goal is obtainable. Don't say that you want to start a company and make a million dollars in the first year. That's highly unlikely for a brand new company or if you are in $70,000 worth of debt and you only make $30,000 a year.
00:04:13
Speaker
that's highly unlikely that you'll be able to pay off that kind of debt. But what you can do is say, I want to be able to pay off $5,000 worth of debt, and this is how I want to do it. So you want to make sure that your goal is actually attainable.
Relevance and Timeliness of Goals
00:04:30
Speaker
So if you want to start that business, go ahead, start the business, but make sure that it's obtainable. So let's say I want to form an S corporation or
00:04:40
Speaker
a 501c3 or LLC by the middle of the year. And I want to actually be selling products on my website by November. Those are actually attainable goals that you can do if you set your focus to it. So let's say you want to lose a hundred pounds. Well, you can say, I want to lose this amount of weight and this is how I'm going to do it. So it's actually obtainable and not something that is way far fetched that will discourage you if you don't make it.
00:05:08
Speaker
The next thing you want to do is make sure that the goal is relevant. You have to make sure that the goal is relevant because if it is something that's not important to you or not on the queue, that's something that you need to do right now, it won't matter to you what happens or what you do or how you go about it. You want to make sure that you are sticking to something that's important that really means something to you so that you can move forward in obtaining this goal.
00:05:38
Speaker
And the last thing you want to do is make sure that you are time, it is a time bound goal. If this goal does not have a timeframe around it, it is really not a goal. It's just a dream and you just kind of, you know, blown through life hoping that it'll work.
00:05:53
Speaker
you have to make sure that you put yourself within a time constraint. So if you want to lose 15 pounds in three months, make sure that you give yourself this amount of time so that it just won't keep going and going and going and you keep making excuses. The point of making a goal is to actually obtain it and achieve it.
00:06:12
Speaker
So you want to make sure that you give yourself the right amount of time. Don't make it so strict where it's too far fetched or you don't want to give it, you don't want to be too loose where you're just like, Oh, I can just get to this at any time. You want to be strict enough on yourself, but open enough for you to make mistakes.
Preparing for 2018 and Overcoming Challenges
00:06:32
Speaker
So I want to say this before I hop off this podcast. This is a really quick podcast that I wanted to put out, but
00:06:38
Speaker
I will be podcasting. I'm going to go back to my normal schedule in the beginning of the year, one podcast a week on Wednesdays. But I want to say that 2018 is the year for those who are prepared. And if you are prepared to go to the next level, God will take you there. So if you need to take time before the new year comes, I suggest you do it to start to plan out what's next for you. Because if you miss this opportunity, I don't know when the next time is going to come around.
00:07:09
Speaker
It's time to dust off our fears, dust off our insecurities, dust off the things that keep us back so that we can go forward in our dreams. 2017 from my understanding was a rough year for a lot of people, including myself. And I have to say that, but it was a year of restoration for me. And I am looking forward to springing forward in 2018. I am looking to advance in this year.
00:07:33
Speaker
and I have properly planned and prepared for it and I want to encourage you to do the same. It is necessary that we stop haphazardly running through life acting as if we are not living on a time span ourselves. We got a few short years and we need to make the best of it so I want to encourage you to get out there and dream
Encouragement for Listeners' Futures
00:07:55
Speaker
get out there and write out your goals and make those goals come to pass. I'm excited for your future and I can't wait to see you in 2018. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and as always be blessed and stay relevant.
