00:00:39
Speaker
I have my door open because Anthony is at work. So next is in here. So she makes noise. Oh well. Oh yeah. Um, my husband, I don't think it's home and my kids are downstairs. They're old enough to be downstairs by themselves, but they are also brats. So who knows? Um, and also I'm recording in a room with no furniture because we're moving. So yay. It's sorry if it's echoing meant to mention this in the last episode and I didn't. So.
00:01:09
Speaker
Oops, but if it's echoey, that's why. Let's dive into it. What are we talking about today?

Understanding Rituals: Witchcraft vs. Religion

00:01:16
Speaker
I'm like, what are we talking about today? Already forgotten. We did the research like almost, I mean, it's been like a week ago.
00:01:26
Speaker
We're talking about beginner rituals. I love it. Rituals for beginners, easy rituals, all of it. Like we can write the dummy book about rituals. Rituals for dummies. Rituals for dummies. That's the book I need.
00:01:44
Speaker
I mean, this podcast episode is basically that, so yeah, yeah, yeah. That's all you need. So to start us off, a ritual is defined as a religious or solemn ceremony consisting of a series of actions performed according to a prescribed order. Rituals aren't inherently witchy. Many people practice some form of ritual in their lives in the form of like a daily, weekly, monthly, or even yearly routine.
00:02:09
Speaker
So things you can think of in this situation would be like meditation, scheduled self-care. Like, you know, everybody has like that hashtag self-care Sunday kind of thing. Or like bedtime routines for relaxation. So it's not inherently witchy. Most people have some form of ritual in their life.
00:02:29
Speaker
Sorry about that. We're going to be a mess today. I was trying to move my phone because it made a vibrating noise and I was like, Oh God, that was loud. And then I didn't hear it hit something else too. So there's that mix is scratching her ear and her little color is like, Oh, she is. That's really cute though. She's cute, man. Yeah.
00:02:53
Speaker
And so, you know, back onto rituals, we mentioned a lot in previous episodes how Christianity has borrowed a lot from our pagan ancestors. All of it. And we use the term borrowed very loosely. But one of the most easily recognized examples when it comes to understanding what a ritual is, is just a look at the church, especially like in the Catholic church.
00:03:23
Speaker
There are a lot of different rituals that are completed within the church every week to prepare for service or mass or whatever you want to call it. And these are things that I had to Google because I had no clue what any of this is. And I still don't, but these are rituals according to the Catholic church. So introductory writes, a liturgy of the word, liturgy of the Eucharist and the communion and the
00:03:50
Speaker
Those are all examples of things that are done weekly, I guess, in Catholic service or mass or whatever you call it. And some of these are also just done during specific holy times or holidays as well. So if you're having a hard time wrapping your head around what a ritual is or how you can incorporate it, it's something just as simple as that if you've seen it done in a church.
00:04:17
Speaker
I read this book called The Crooked Path, like, I don't know, forever ago.

Exploring Traditional Witchcraft Rituals

00:04:22
Speaker
It's The Crooked Path, and it's an intro into traditional witchcraft, and it's by Keldin. And they defined ritual as having many purposes within the practice of traditional witchcraft. When engaging in ritual, we are able to connect with the spirits, with the land, and with the deeper parts of ourselves.
00:04:44
Speaker
rituals that are done within traditional witchcraft are referred to as ecstatic rituals, meaning that they're spontaneous, they're wild, and they're emotional. When it comes to traditional witchcraft, it's usually something that's just like on a whim, or I know like later in the book, they, they described it as like, you know, dancing around a bonfire or, you know, like chanting something like if you are trying to protect yourself or, you know, bringing something into you kind of thing.
00:05:14
Speaker
So it's not like something that's scheduled essentially like, and like you were giving with the example with Catholic church, they do that. I think they do like the communion and stuff like that weekly. I know like growing up in a Pentecostal church, we did communion twice a month. So it was like every other Sunday we did communion. So it was like scheduled. We knew it was happening in traditional witchcraft being like ecstatic rituals.
00:05:42
Speaker
they mean that it's like spontaneous and, you know, just when you're like, oh, I need to do this thing. And so you come up with a spell on a whim and do that thing or whatever it is that you're trying to do. It's not something that you schedule and go forward with.
00:05:55
Speaker
Oh, I like that. So it's kind of like your body is telling you. Yeah. Yeah. I need to do this. This was probably one of the first witchy books that I read. And it's, it's really cool. Like it's structured very well. Um, it gives a lot of examples. It doesn't like, like it'll give you all the information and it'll tell you like,
00:06:16
Speaker
what is open, what is closed practice. There's no like gatekeeping essentially on it, but they do let you know like, hey, this is a thing that's like closed practice. So maybe don't do that. But if you do, that's on you kind of thing. And they give you all kind of all the tools and break everything down so that you have a full understanding of like traditional witchcraft as a whole versus just being like, I feel like a lot of books, there's a lot lacking.
00:06:42
Speaker
in, you know, they'll give you some history and some information, but I've read a lot of books where I still feel like, well, I don't fully understand this concept or this particular thing. And I think The Cricket Path does a really good job at explaining things. Also that title is just perfect. I know. Well, and if you look it up, the cover is beautiful. I think that was the first thing that drew me to it. I was like looking at books, ma'am,
00:07:10
Speaker
Sorry guys. She doesn't know how to be quiet, clearly. She's like, good mom. She's like, I have an itch. But yeah, like I was looking at books and I saw the book cover first and I was like, oh my God, what is this book? And then the title, I was like, okay, I'm going to read this one. And it was really good. I'm glad I read it. Yeah. So some ritual practice do's and don'ts.
00:07:35
Speaker
When researching rituals and books or online, remember to personalize them like reading a ritual or a spell or, you know, how to make a money bowl or whatever.

Personalizing Rituals in Witchcraft

00:07:50
Speaker
It's great, but it should only be the foundation that you build upon to make a ritual personal to you. Like it's going to be more successful if it holds meaning and value to you versus something that you're just taking from someone else.
00:08:04
Speaker
As a beginner or even just a reminder for those that are seasoned in their craft, don't over complicate the process. Keep it simple. Remember that you don't need to go out and buy a bunch of tools or a bunch of things. Just keep things practical and use what you have. And if you're new to witchcraft, it can seem very overwhelming, especially with all of the content creators on
00:08:28
Speaker
line on like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. And this is something that we've discussed frequently on the podcast, but being a witch is not all about what you see on TV or what you see online. All you need is intention. So when it comes to these rituals, if you have the intention, then you're halfway there, more than halfway, I would say. And I feel like that's why we constantly say like, you don't need to buy a bunch of things because
00:08:55
Speaker
for content like witchy content creators that we see today. A lot of it is about the aesthetic and owning all these crystals and these tools and these books. And while it's great if you have the resources to purchase those items, it's not necessary. Like if you take it down to the roots of our ancestors, they didn't have all these things. They didn't have access to crystals from all over the world. They used what was in their own yards. So definitely keep that in mind.
00:09:25
Speaker
Make sure that you feel connected to the ritual and make your ritual work for you. Spend some time focusing your intent on your rituals. Think about what you want to achieve, what you want to release or manifest. Really just put your intent into your work and try to visualize these things happening. Yeah. And then just as like a way to wrap it up before we get into the rituals,
00:09:50
Speaker
Hopefully this episode will give you some inspiration of some simple rituals that you can incorporate into your daily life or just your life in general so that you can feel more connected to your witchy self and your witchy path. So getting into the rituals, we've already talked about the moon on many other episodes.
00:10:11
Speaker
But using the moon in your work is probably one of the easiest and most inherently magical things you can do. So it's perfect for everyone, especially beginners. The first thing that you can do with the moon and probably one of the easiest ritual you can do is making moon water. This is something that you can do regardless of the moon cycle. And the whole purpose of making moon water is because it imbues the water with the energy of the moon. Moon water can be used to drink,
00:10:39
Speaker
and kitchen witchery to cleanse and charge your magical tools and to use as an ingredient in the spells that you cast. To make moon water, all you need to do is just fill a transparent container like a jar with water and set it outside in a place where the moonlight can reach the container. But you don't have to worry about it if like it's a cloudy night, just set it where the moonlight would normally reach it if it wasn't cloudy. So just to kind of briefly go over the phases,
00:11:09
Speaker
As we've mentioned earlier, you can make moonwater during any phase of the moon. The full moon is the most common phase that you hear about when people say they're making moonwater, but here's a few little tidbits of each cycle. So if you want to cater your spell or intention for creating moonwater for a specific spell, this is a great little cheat sheet of understanding each moon cycle.
00:11:35
Speaker
know, write down your notes if you want to, but for the new moon, this is the time of the month where you're going to get rid of what no longer serves you. It's all about fresh starts, rebirth, and setting intentions for future projects or goals. The waxing crescent, this teaches us that to achieve our goals, we need to do adequate research and planning, and this is all about bringing what you want into your life. The moon is growing during this phase, and so
00:12:02
Speaker
It's all about visualization and bringing about abundance into your life as the moon is growing. For the first quarter, once we have everything ready, it is time to start working on our goals. This moon phase is that first initial boost of energy that jump-starts the hard work. This time of month, when the moon is in the first quarter, it's great for energizing spells,
00:12:24
Speaker
growing your own energy and making decisions. The next phase is the waxing gibbous moon. This moon is about focus. It calls us to concentrate our time and effort and energy on the important parts of life to keep balance. During this phase, you should focus your spells on success in all projects, seeking guidance. This could be from like your spirit guides or just getting a sign in general from the universe.
00:12:52
Speaker
And this is all about manifestation rituals and keeping balance. The next phase in the cycle is the full moon, but I'm saving that for the last. And then the next one after that is the waning gibbous. This is the phase of gratitude. So this is all about enjoying what you've achieved and sharing happiness and nurturing with those closest to you. The spells that you cast during this time should be focused on giving thanks, protection, letting go of regrets and guilt.
00:13:19
Speaker
And this is a great time for shadow work and self-knowledge. And the last two are also great for shadow work as well. So the last quarter moon is all about letting go of what is toxic and draining to your energy. Get rid of the energy that is preventing you from moving forward. And again, like I said, this is a great time for shadow work and spells and rituals during this time should focus on deep cleansing, protection and banishing.
00:13:44
Speaker
And the last one, the waning crescent moon. This phase reminds us to not overwork ourselves. Resting is necessary and spells and rituals should focus on self-reflecting, forgiveness, and self-forgiveness. So to kind of backtrack to the full moon, because we're going to talk about a full moon ritual,
00:14:01
Speaker
This phase is at a moment of high power and our intuition is believed to be more active during this phase. It is the time to harvest the results of our hard work and spells should focus on goal manifestation, psychic abilities, and divination, and strengthening bonds. Full moons are an ideal time for wrapping up and reflecting on yourself, on your projects, and on your own habits. The full moon's energy helps to illuminate what has and hasn't been working for you.
00:14:31
Speaker
It's the optimal time for self reflection and then spiritual cleansing. So a simple full moon ritual could be to first just kind of prepare your space, find a comfortable place to sit, grab any of your crystals that you want to include in the ritual or to cleanse under the full moon.
00:14:49
Speaker
bring your chosen method of smoke cleansing like sage or rosemary, incense, palo santo, whatever it is that you use, and cleanse your space. So smoke cleanse it and then once you feel that it's thoroughly smoke cleansed, then clear your mind with some meditation to help ground yourself.
00:15:08
Speaker
If you can't clear your mind through meditation, try something like journaling to get all of your thoughts out onto a piece of paper so that you're not constantly thinking about them. Next, write a list of what you want to release from your life and reflect on the habits, behaviors, and environments that are no longer serving you.
00:15:26
Speaker
and then release this from your life by burning the paper with the list on it. Or if, you know, fire isn't an option, if burning something isn't an option for you, you can also just tear it up into several pieces and then just reflect on how you want to move forward and how, you know, you release these things out of your life. So how are you going to keep from falling back into those old habits? That's it. Super easy. That is a super easy ritual. And it's something that you can, if you're like,
00:15:55
Speaker
Okay. I want to start including rituals into my work, but I don't know when to start. And I don't feel like, you know, following all of the moon cycles, I just want to focus on the full moon. This is a great full moon ritual that you can do just once a month and then slowly incorporate other rituals as well.

Casting Circles and Energy Focus

00:16:13
Speaker
All right. So moving on to the next ritual that we're going to talk about casting a circle, casting a circle is super easy. It's a beginner ritual that you can incorporate into your spellwork and
00:16:25
Speaker
although it sounds intimidating because of movies and TV and stuff, it is not intimidating or complicated at all. Essentially, all casting a circle is, is a way to ensure that the energy from your surroundings doesn't disturb your spell. And it's a way to keep the energy that you were raising in your workspace to make sure that your spell is more powerful.
00:16:48
Speaker
if that makes sense. So just kind of visualize like your energy and the energy you're raising stuck in this circle. It's not leaving the circle that you cast. So it's going into your spell, making it more powerful. So there are many different traditions and rituals for casting a circle depending on the path you follow, but just a basic circle consists of essentially the following. So you're gonna make a circle and that's it. I'm just kidding.
00:17:18
Speaker
That's the end of the ritual. So just figure it out. Traditionally, this is done with salt, but sand can be used as well, or even crystals if you have like a crystal grid, or even just using your own visualization works. So really, whatever works for you. I've done circles many a times where I didn't use any salt because whatever I had my altar set up, it was upstairs in my landing.
00:17:44
Speaker
before it was packed away by the movers. No, actually I packed it away and the movers just put it on a crate to take it to Japan but at any rate there was no salt or sand used because of the top of my landing it's carpet so I used visualization but essentially what you're going to do is mark the elements starting in the east and continuing clockwise
00:18:09
Speaker
place a representation of each of the four elements at its corresponding cardinal point. So east is associated with air and we've talked about these correspondences before on the podcast and I'm blanking on the episode that we talked about it on but just as an FYI like just a quick little like couple of suggestions for each one I'm going to include it.
00:18:32
Speaker
For air, you can use feathers, broom, incense, or bells in place as like a correspondence marker for east to represent air. For south, which is known for fire, this is candles, atame, swords, or any sort of flame will work. West is water.
00:18:51
Speaker
And you can use water and this could be moon water, river water, anything from a stream or ocean, shells, sea glass, driftwood, anything that you would pick up, you could probably even use sand for this if you wanted to. North or earth, you could use a plant, any sort of household plant you have around your house or clipping of a plant.
00:19:11
Speaker
Anything from the earth, you could just use grass or dirt or moss or anything like that, rock, stone, sticks, anything like that will work for the correspondence of earth. So once you have your elements placed, you're going to invoke the elements with your voice starting in the east and continuing clockwise, visualizing your energy as a line of light that only allows the passage of energy you want to be present within the circle to remain.
00:19:41
Speaker
And that's all that that is with casting a circle. It's super easy. It doesn't have to be as in depth and thorough and you need four people and you need all this stuff like you see in the movies. It is as simple as you want it to be. I've seen people even have like their own like
00:19:58
Speaker
at their desk in their workspace, a little altar set up and they'll cast a circle to keep their energy inside at their workspace, which I think is pretty cool. I've never thought of that before until I heard about this and I was like, wait a second, I can't cast a circle at my desk. Obviously I would probably not be speaking it out loud when I'm invoking all the elements, but
00:20:22
Speaker
but you could essentially like anytime you want to and it's something that you can even just practice as a beginner as well.
00:20:29
Speaker
The episode that we discussed the directions and elements was the altar episode. I forget what number it is, but we discussed it when we talked about building an altar. So if you haven't listened to it, go back and listen to that. But yeah, this was a good like, like a cheat sheet, essentially. We did go into depth on that one. Yes, we shared it.
00:20:54
Speaker
And then of course I had to include some kind of ritual bath in here.

Manifestation and Healing Practices

00:20:59
Speaker
So I had to, I had to, that's, that's my jam. I love, I love stuff in the kitchen and my bathtub. So, um, I am going to walk you through a ritual manifestation bath. So this is pretty simple. I'm sorry if you hear my dog, she's being a turd this morning. She thinks it's playtime.
00:21:19
Speaker
So this is just a simple manifestation bath. So basically, while you're running your bath, light a candle, and this can be any candle, but of course you can look into correspondences for manifestation. If you want to choose a certain color candle, like maybe green or gold, you could do that too, but it could be any candle.
00:21:39
Speaker
Add some bubbles or any other like additions that you want to add to your bath. I like to do like a bath bomb, maybe some bath salts or oils, and then add some corresponding herbs. Like I'll do like a little bath tea that I add. So these can be things like basil or rose or chamomile, cinnamon. There's a whole list of correspondences that you could go through for that. So just kind of pick a few that you like and add them to your bath.
00:22:05
Speaker
You can bring a rose quartz that you'll use in your bathwater because it can infuse it. But you can also just hold it over your heart as you meditate and visualize what you're wanting to manifest. Rose quartz can infuse your water with its loving energy. It's all about self-love and self-belief. So using it in this ritual helps boost your self-belief in your manifestations and to boost your self-love. Do everything in eights as eight is the number of the physical and material world.
00:22:34
Speaker
So an example would be to mixture bathwater eight times, draw the water over your body eight times, or you can even, as you're mixing your bathwater, do it in like a figure eight. And visualize what you're trying to manifest while also visualizing that you already have this in the present. Because remember, we want to speak it into the present, not into the future.
00:22:59
Speaker
So as your water drains after your bath, visualize that any self-doubt or negative thoughts are just washing down the drain with your water. That's it. Super easy. Yeah, that is really easy.
00:23:12
Speaker
And then I added a ritual healing bath because we're coming into that part of the year where people are most likely to at the very least get a cold because we're getting into those gross winter months. So if you're feeling a little under the weather, I found this on YouTube on the Green Witches channel. I absolutely recommend her. I love her videos.
00:23:37
Speaker
they're so soothing, like her voice is so soothing and just visually pretty. So I would definitely recommend going over there and watching the video for this. Yeah. So after we're done recording, I will go and find the link for it and we'll link it in our show notes so that you can go back and watch it if you want to.
00:23:56
Speaker
So again, this is just a great way to combat a cold and using things like healing herbs through teas medicine, food and bath soaks is something that I love to do and something that you'll see a lot on the Green Witches channel if you go through her videos.
00:24:12
Speaker
Okay, so what you'll need is a cloth teabag or a muslin bag. Though this piece is optional, we discussed in our magical bath and showers episode, you can put these items straight into your water, but just remember to strain them out before you drain the water because you don't want it all getting clogged in your drain. And if you don't have a bathtub and you only have a shower, you can hang the muslin bag over your shower head and let the water run through it.
00:24:39
Speaker
You'll also need chamomile, which is also known as the plant's physician, dried nettles, and ginger. While fresh herbs are preferred usually when you're doing herbal things, nettles should be worked with while dry to avoid their sting. If you only have fresh nettles, make sure you steep them in hot water first to wilt their little stinging hairs. You can also use conifer or pine tops over ginger if you want.
00:25:05
Speaker
And then you can change any of the ingredients or steps of this ritual to work for you. As we always say, you should use these things that other people put out there or spells that you find in books or rituals that you find in books as a foundation and build off of them to work for you and to connect with better. Just make sure that you're using
00:25:28
Speaker
healing herbs, obviously, because that's the point of this ritual. Place all of your ingredients into the bag, taking time to put your energy and your intent into the herbs, and then run your bath and place the bag in the bath. Swirl it around a bit to kind of like get the herbs infused. Think of like a tea bag, you're trying to steep them into your water. And while you're doing this, you know, putting your intention into the water as well. Once you are ready, just get into the bath.
00:25:56
Speaker
Visualize your sickness washing off of you and being drawn out by the spell bag and the herbs. And once you're done, you can compost the herbs if you want to. And as the water drains, again, just visualize your sickness washing down the drain with the water. That's it. Super easy.
00:26:14
Speaker
Plus, I mean, honestly, who doesn't love a bath when you're sick? Exactly. There's nothing better. No, it's so relaxing. It makes you feel better. When you're all congested, it helps clear that. And then when you add some healing herbs and some intention to it. Perfect. And when you're sick too, you're always kind of, or at least I am always wishing that I wasn't sick. So if you already have that intention there, why not get the bath?
00:26:43
Speaker
Add some herbs. Add some nice healing herbs. Yeah. You can throw some lavender in there, some rosemary. Like the correspondence for healing herbs just goes on and on and on and on. So it's great. Perfect. Yeah. So moving on to just like cleansing and cleansing as a ritual.
00:27:04
Speaker
We have had an entire episode already on cleansing, charging and banishing. So I will not be rehashing that entire episode by any means. But if you haven't listened or you want to refresh your memory about what we discussed at length, make sure you check out episode six, which was our cleansing, charging and banishing episode. But what I will say is that cleansing is such an easy ritualistic practice that everyone should do. And if you are newer to witchcraft, this is probably one of the most important things you should create a ritual around.
00:27:34
Speaker
make it a habit and do it frequently. So cleansing is a ritual that removes unwanted energies attached to whatever you're wanting to cleanse, whether that be you as a person, your home, your magical tools, etc. It should be done regularly and also whenever you purchase an item and ideally every time you use that item.
00:27:55
Speaker
So unwanted energies are common and it doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with it or that something bad has happened to it. It's just like say if we wear clothing, clothing gets dirty when you wear it. So when it's dirty, we clean it. We don't just throw it away. And that's the same thing, the same principle when it comes to cleansing any magical tools as well.
00:28:15
Speaker
Many ways to cleanse that we've already discussed at length on this podcast are things like moonlight smoke and sound cleansing, which are some of our favorite methods for cleansing. And like I said, we took a deep dive on this on episode six, so make sure you check it out. But this is a great, easy beginner ritual that everyone should be doing regardless of their practice. You should be cleansing and it should be a ritual for you. If not weekly, daily, monthly, it should be, however you incorporate it, you should be doing it.
00:28:46
Speaker
And don't over complicate it. You know, we, we have our favorite ways of cleansing, but to you, maybe cleansing is literally just cleaning. Maybe you just, you know, deep clean your house from top to bottom. It doesn't have to be a whole, um,
00:29:01

over complicated process, especially if you're just starting out. If you're just starting out and you're not really sure what form of cleansing is what you want to do, experiment with it. Maybe say once a week, every Sunday, I'm going to sit down or not sit down, I guess you'd be going around your house, but every Sunday, I'm going to go and I'm going to deep clean my house. On the first Sunday, I'm going to try smoke cleansing and see how I feel about that.
00:29:28
Speaker
the second week, I'm going to try sound cleansing and see how, you know, that makes my space feel how the energy is react or, you know, just try different things, find out what works for you and then go from there. Exactly. Yes. And it could be, you know, what our favorite cleansing methods are could be something that you hate. So
00:29:48
Speaker
Yeah. And vice versa, we might not like that you love. So yeah, I will say to something, especially if you're new to this, something that you could try, because this is something that I incorporate into my cleansing rituals every time is I just go through and open all my windows in the house, open them all as the start, like at the start, and then go through and like clean each room one by one. And I like smoke cleansing. So I,
00:30:14
Speaker
will take incense or like a sage bundle or a rosemary bundle or a cedar bundle, whatever I have on hand at the time and I will take it through my house too. But making sure that my windows are open so that all the stagnant air and energies are releasing from my house and that the smoke also has somewhere to go so that my fire alarms aren't going off like crazy because we don't want that either.
00:30:42
Speaker
Yeah. And that's perfect. That's the perfect way. Even just opening your windows and shooing the negative air out of your home is fine. It's nice. I love it. Just do what works for you, but also make sure you're doing it because cleansing is important. It is.

Amulets, Charms, and Protective Practices

00:30:59
Speaker
And moving on from cleansing, let's talk about amulets and charms, which
00:31:05
Speaker
I think we've briefly touched a little bit maybe on amulets and charms, but not a lot. But so amulets are small items that are commonly used to attract things to you. And they often have magical associations. So examples of this would be like the four leaf clover for luck, a coin to attract money. And I've seen these in Christianity and Catholics, they will, I don't know what they're called, but they're like small little coin things, but they have like a saint or an angel on them.
00:31:35
Speaker
Do you want to talk about, I don't know what the name of it is, but if you've seen that, you'll know what I'm talking about, but something inherently magical that you can use our crystals. So we've talked a lot about different crystal correspondences on our podcast. And I'm just going to say right now, this is a shameless plug to our supercast newsletter, because every month we pick a crystal that we take a deep dive in and we talk about, you know, where it can be found.
00:32:04
Speaker
what it can be used for. And so if you're interested in that, definitely subscribe to our Supercast. Make sure that you're subscribed to the Spelman's or the Charmed ones to get access to our newsletters. And when you do subscribe, we will send you the previous newsletters as well. If you were subscribed to
00:32:26
Speaker
one of the, or two, either the spellments or the charmed ones. So just a quick little aside there, had to throw that out there, but the act of using crystals as part of your daily life, like wearing a specific crystal for self-love, for instance, or protection, luck, or to help with like any sort of psychic abilities is a daily ritual that you can do whenever you're getting dressed. So it's just as simple as putting on a necklace. And they have like these little necklaces that have
00:32:55
Speaker
A little cage in them that you can just fit a crystal in and I have one for my daughter so that she can like change out the crystal, depending on what mood she's in or what she wants to do. And these are great. Like if you're a beginner or even just. Wherever you are on your path, if that's something that you want to learn more about crystal is getting more involved with crystals and learning how to incorporate them into rituals, wearing them is a great way to do that.
00:33:21
Speaker
But if you don't have crystals, or don't know where to begin with crystals, you can also charm something that you already wear on a daily basis with your intention and this is something that I do. And this is something that's a great ritual you can do as a beginner, or if you're in the broom closet and say you don't even want anyone to know.
00:33:39
Speaker
And if you were to wear a crystal necklace, people would ask you about it. So there are many different methods for this, but two super easy ones are choosing an object, like maybe a necklace or a ring that you wear daily, meditate on the intention for that object while holding the object. And this imbues your intention into that object. So then you just put it on, you wear it around and whenever you feel the need to recharge it again, then just take it off and do the ritual again.
00:34:10
Speaker
But then another ritual to view your intention is through candle magic. And this is super easy. It doesn't sound like it's super easy, but I promise it is. So what you're going to do is you're going to select a candle that corresponds with the intention you want to set for the object. And again, like we've said on this episode, do your research, but also do what speaks to you and make sure you're practicing fire safety.
00:34:34
Speaker
So what you're gonna wanna do is carve your intention into the candle. And this can be simple as a little sigil or even something as simple as like a dollar sign if you want to attract abundance to your life, a heart for self-love and acceptance, a cloud for peace and calming energies. I mean, literally it can be something as easy as that. Then once you have your sigil card, then you're gonna light the candle and meditate with your object, visualizing the energy from the candle
00:35:04
Speaker
and from yourself flowing into the object that you're charming. And then from there, you wear the object or you put it in your wallet, depending on if it's just like a little card with money that you've drawn on it, whatever it is, and you wear it around as a little talisman and it's perfect. I like that. Yeah. I've never done that, but I like that.
00:35:26
Speaker
I love it. I do that often with my wedding rings are great. Like, especially if you're in the broom closet or you're new and you don't want to be buying crystals. If you're married, a wedding ring is great because like you wear that every day. And it's, I mean, I do it for protection and self-love and that's what I imbue my energy into it. And so I think it's great.
00:35:51
Speaker
I wanted to kind of close this out with this again is hearkening back to the crooked path.

Advanced Traditional Rituals

00:35:58
Speaker
I highly recommend reading it. It's a great book, but they included three rituals that are considered common practice. These aren't necessarily considered like easy or beginner rituals, but I thought they were a good example to show rituals that have transcended through history. So I just thought it would be cool to include them in this episode.
00:36:21
Speaker
The first one is called the Compass Round, and this is very similar to casting a circle, like the whole process that Sam went through earlier. It's very similar to it, but it has a little like few differences. The Compass is a witches, ritually constructed, circular shaped working space, as well as a liminal space where it's considered a doorway to the other world.
00:36:45
Speaker
The goals of laying a compass are to establish protection, concentrate local energies in a defined space, and or creating a space to commune with particular entities. So laying a compass is composed of three rings.
00:37:00
Speaker
So you lay the outer ring in salt representing life. You lay the middle ring in ash, and this is traditionally birch or willow wood ash, but it doesn't have to be. If you just have fireplace ash, you can use that too.
00:37:16
Speaker
And this represents death and rebirth. And then the third ring, the innermost ring, is done in a mixture of water, wine, vinegar, and sugar. And this represents the river that is crossed into the other world. The very center of the innermost ring is known as the castle or the place where the four directions meet. And this is where magic has been worked.
00:37:41
Speaker
So once you've cast these three circles, you're going to stand in the center of the innermost circle, and that's where you'll work all of your magic. You know, cast your spell, maybe you're just meditating, whatever it is that you're casting your circle for, you're doing it in that innermost center circle that's known as the castle. And then at the very top of the circle, it's going to be facing north with the elements in their respective places, like in a compass.
00:38:12
Speaker
It's that easy, that's it. Like it's not necessarily easy, but it's not, I think it sounds more difficult than it really is, but it's very similar to casting a circle and it's pretty much done for the same purposes, but it's just called laying the compass or the compass round. The second one is called treading the mill. So this is used to alter consciousness and raise personal magical power.
00:38:41
Speaker
Basically, one would pace continually or instead of pace, they use the word tread in some older texts.
00:38:49
Speaker
within the lane compass. So you're gonna lay the compass that we just talked about and then you're gonna get in that center innermost circle and pace or tread constantly while keeping your gaze fixed on a central point of reference like a bonfire or if you put like a token out and just keep your gaze focused on that. This is a modern version of which is dancing circles around central objects like a bonfire in the past.
00:39:18
Speaker
If it wasn't obvious, the name refers to the old fashioned mills that would work in a circular fashion to grind grains and it ties witches in with working with the land. Treading clockwise would be used for beneficent workings and counterclockwise would be for baneful workings. Treading should also be done in a slow and steady movement, though it can also be performed where you gain intensity over time. And this is believed to raise your vibration and cause your power to move within you.
00:39:49
Speaker
And the last one is called the household. So this is a ritual of communion and Thanksgiving.
00:39:55
Speaker
where spirits are offered both food and drink. Hustle comes from the old English word hustle, which meant sacrifice or offering, but was taken by the Christians for the Eucharist ceremony. In this ritual, one would share food and drink with the spirits who aid them as a sign of gratitude with what they have done, as well as participating in the ritual meal as a means of accepting the blessing of the spirits.
00:40:24
Speaker
During the meal, it's considered polite to lightly converse with the spirits, but also allowing them times of silence. Households can be done at the end of larger rituals as a way to thank the spirits for attending and aiding in a ritual. Ritual feasting has been long tied to witches. Those that were accused of witchcraft during the Salem trials were also accused of feasting upon red bread and red wine in meetings with the devil in a ritual feast.
00:40:52
Speaker
I mean, I wouldn't be sad if someone accused me of, because red bread, that sounds good. Like, is this a red velvet cake situation? Ooh, I'm here for it. Or is this like a- Red grains, kind of red grains. Like, I've had red rice and red quinoa. Yeah, I'm here for that and red wine always. But also wine?
00:41:14
Speaker
Thank you. Thank you all of it. I don't care where it came from. If that means I'm converted in desert desert desert desert desert with the devil here for it. Look, it seems like it'd be a better time. It does. It really does. Those three are considered
00:41:37
Speaker
common practice in traditional witchcraft. I had not heard of any of them, so I thought it would be cool to include them. I don't know if you have- I've never heard of either. I mean, I've heard of, I'll take that back. I have heard of threading the mill. Okay. Treading the mill. Treading the mill, yeah.
00:41:57
Speaker
Treading the mail, I can't even say it right. I have heard of that, but that's it. Okay. Yeah, I thought the compass one was kind of cool too, because it is very similar to casting a circle with just a few like key differences to it. Yeah, it really is. Yeah. Yeah. I love it. But yeah, so that's basic easy rituals. And I'm sure we can, we could probably do a whole series of easy rituals. So maybe this is
00:42:26
Speaker
will be the first of many, but yeah. Again, this should be like a starter, a foundation. Obviously we only included a few rituals. I mean, you can do a ritual for anything, so. You really could, yeah. Maybe if you have something that you wanna do, take something that we talked about today and build your own ritual out of it. Use it kind of as the foundation for what you wanna do, change it to how it's gonna work for you.
00:42:54
Speaker
That's honestly how all rituals should be. Like they should be personalized to you and what you're attempting to do. Or bring in or let go of. And then once you do, let us know how it goes because we're always, we love to hear from our listeners. So yeah. So if you do try any of the rituals that we talk about or that there's a ritual that you do that you want to tell us about, let us know because we're here for it.
