Spring Cleaning Rituals and Dandelion Wine

Speaker
craft. So get in witches as we discuss spring cleaning rituals.
00:00:37
Speaker
I'll see how I feel after this, but I have 625 dandelions picked and de-pedaled ready for wine. Yes. I'm making a triple batch this year. Yes. So it's going to be great. We'll get like 15-ish bottles of wine out of it. I love that. I'm so excited. It's so delicious. I'm excited to eventually try it. Yeah.
00:01:06
Speaker
I know if we're in Hawaii at the same time, I think I have one bottle left from last year. So maybe I'll bring it. Yeah, if we're in Hawaii at the same time, we got to do it.

Gardening Tips and Plant Allergies

00:01:17
Speaker
Yeah. And we're also going to make a wild violet wine this year. That sounds amazing. It's going to be so pretty. It's going to be the prettiest purple ever. Yeah.
00:01:28
Speaker
So, and then just FYI listeners, you absolutely need to listen to next week's episode because this is the sort of things we'll be talking about in detail because Tiffany's garden is amazing.
00:01:42
Speaker
I was out looking in my yard and I'm like, I have henbit, I have chickweed, I have cleavers, I have dandelions, I have wild birds, I have Indian berries. And then I found a new berry that I don't even know what it is. It's this little orange like round berry. So I got to figure that one out. Man, I really miss having that sort of stuff here. Like we have grass.
00:02:09
Speaker
That's it. And it's not even like the soft, nice grass. It's like hard. I don't know how to describe it. It's like, it's rough. I don't know if it's like, because of just the way the grass has evolved here, it needed to be really hardy or something. But it is tough. And Gizmo's allergic to it. So I have to give him Benadryl. Poor buddy. I know. Poor thing. He's always just like finding something that's not good.
00:02:39
Speaker
the grass here. He was allergic to the grass in England, but for different reasons. And now he's allergic to the grass here and his little paws are all red. And I'm like, oh baby, I'm sorry, but you still gotta go outside and go potty. And he's like, no, I'll hold it. And I'm like, get your ass outside. No, I'm just kidding. I don't do that. But I go out there with his leash and I have to be like, sir, I literally have to stand out there sometimes and be like, you're not going out and back inside until you go to the bathroom.

Historical Significance of Spring Cleaning

00:03:08
Speaker
What are we talking about today, though? Spring cleaning. Spring cleaning. We're just going to pretend that it is warm in Illinois. Yeah. I've had enough few days where I was able to open up all the windows in the house and get some airflow. It was nice. Yeah. And then it got cold again, so. Then you had to close it. Then you had to do what they do in Germany, where they're like, even if it's being cold, we're going to open the windows for five minutes.
00:03:36
Speaker
And then we'll close it. Yeah, we gotta get that fresh air. Yeah. But back on to spring cleaning though. Yeah. The whole purpose of like spring cleaning and the background of it, there's nothing new. I mean, it's, it's, it's definitely a topic that has been around forever. Um, it's been around for centuries actually with historians finding evidence that
00:04:01
Speaker
Spring cleaning was seen as far back as 3000 BC throughout many different cultures. As far as the Northern Hemisphere, spring is in full bloom here. And by the time you're getting this episode, we're approaching summer. But the days are getting longer, the sun is getting stronger, and it's only natural that we feel like decluttering, cleaning, and refreshing our spaces. And while spring cleaning isn't inherently witchy, there are many ways you can incorporate
00:04:29
Speaker
witchy rituals into your spring cleaning? Yeah, so like Sam said, spring cleaning is it's practiced by everyone. It's not just practiced by witches. So this is a time of cleaning, clearing, cleansing, and just making room for everything new.

Spiritual and Personalized Cleaning Rituals

00:04:47
Speaker
It's also a time of renewal and rebirth in nature. So the flowers are blooming, plant life is returning, and animals are often also bringing new babies into the world.
00:04:57
Speaker
So since witches tend to work in harmony with the cycles of nature, it just makes sense that spring cleaning can take on ritualistic practice. So while doing mundane cleaning is super important, it's also important to cleanse ourselves and our spaces spiritually as well.
00:05:13
Speaker
This is a time to start renewing the positivity and warmth within your home. And it's also the time to declutter and organize while also deep cleaning everything as you make your way through your house. So get rid of the old, make room for the new. And this includes energies within the home too, not just like physical material things.
00:05:32
Speaker
Absolutely. So we're going to go over some ways to incorporate spring cleaning rituals into your daily practice. So while these rituals are personal,
00:05:45
Speaker
And we're going to talk about some things that we do and things that we've researched and compiled for this episode. It's best to do what speaks to you and make these rituals your own. That's something we talk about all the time. Do what works best for you. This isn't something you have to spend money on. Do your research. All those things apply, especially in this episode.
00:06:05
Speaker
And so when I was doing research for this episode, I came across this blog and it's called My Moonstone Kitchen. And her blog is actually really awesome. I favorited it because she has a lot of really cool like DIYs and recipes and stuff. But as far as like spring cleaning rituals, she starts out before she does anything by making a list of intentions for her spring cleaning rituals.
00:06:28
Speaker
So she'll have prompts similar to something that we see in shadow work or just manifesting in general, such as making a list of things that are weighing you down energetically and physically. This could be material things, tasks, habits, relationships, any of the above or anything else that doesn't fit into these categories. And when you make that list, you're supposed to also make a plan to address these to see if there's a way to lighten your load. Then what you're going to want to do is
00:06:58
Speaker
pick which changes you're wanting to make in your life. So really sitting down and having that conversation with yourself on how you want to see your life progress, what changes you need to instill to make your life be the vision that you see for yourself and understand why you're resisting any changes. So she talks about leaning into and embracing positive changes when you can to make your
00:07:24
Speaker
like what you're trying to manifest for your spring cleaning rituals, take shape. And then she discusses making a plan to get organized and clear out the clutter. So she recommends making a detailed plan and spreading it out over a few days or even a couple of weeks. So this isn't something that you just need to do one day and that be it. This is something like if you're sitting down and you're making this list, it's not always going to be something that you can take care of in one day. And if it takes a couple of weeks, that's totally fine.

Emotional Aspects of Decluttering

00:07:54
Speaker
Then she suggests meditating and focusing on what renewal would look like for you, what that fresh start would be like without any of the physical, emotional, and mental clutter. And finally, she suggests writing down some inspiring sentences and words to help guide you through this. So this is something that you can incorporate as you're cleaning, like saying those intentions or those inspiring sentences as you're going through and taking care of your home.
00:08:23
Speaker
So whenever we talk about spring cleaning, really it's just as simple as going room by room and starting with opening your windows.
00:08:32
Speaker
I saw this a lot when researching, and it's something that I know both me and Tiffany, we both do, and it's something we've kind of already talked about on the episode. But it's easier to start with opening up a window and then starting one room at a time. The first thing I do when I'm cleaning out a space is I open the blinds, curtains, and I open the window, even if it's just for a few minutes, to get rid of any stale and negative air.
00:08:57
Speaker
While cleaning, you can think about the inspiring sentences, like I said previously, as a way to help guide you. So you're going to want to think about how grateful you are in your current home and also give thanks back to your home for providing you with safety, shelter, and a place for you to call home. While you're going room by room,
00:09:16
Speaker
Personally, I focus on decluttering. So donating things that can be donated and throwing things out that are no longer useful for anyone. And you can incorporate things like, for instance, Marie Kondo and her way of decluttering, because even though her technique for decluttering isn't inherently witchy, having all of this clutter around can emotionally drain us. And only keeping things that quote unquote spark joy, as she says, can lighten that mental load
00:09:45
Speaker
and help keep our space free of negative energy. So you don't have to like go through and literally take like what all the clothing articles in your home, throw it on your bed and then go through one by one. Obviously make this your own. And this is something when I have done decluttering, like she discusses, I've never done the whole like bring every article of this into one space. I have to go room by room.
00:10:09
Speaker
But that's a great way to kind of start out with this. And if you declutter first before you put things away, you're less likely to hold on to things you don't need. Yeah, the only thing I was so on board with everything with her. And then she did it to books. And I was like, first of all, ma'am, no.
00:10:28
Speaker
Right. All of these books spark joy. Every book sparks joy in my heart. Absolutely. Yeah. And then I'm the same too. She did the same with pictures. And I'm like, I'm sorry. I'm not getting rid of this. You're like, every picture sparks joy. All right. I'm just going to keep all of these in a picture box. Thank you. And then in a way, when we go and look through them, we're like, oh my god, remember this picture.
00:10:58
Speaker
I'm sure that's a probably super millennial thing to do and I don't care. I love it. We just got rid of all of our empty boxes not too long ago. Look at your progress. I know. We laugh so hard because that is such a millennial thing. We're like, oh, it's a good box. And you save it and you're like, 10 years later, why do I have this empty box? Oh, because it's a good box.

Energy Cleansing Methods

00:11:20
Speaker
You definitely, when you are spring cleaning, you want to make sure that you clean your baseboards, your windows, fan blades, light switches, door handles. And a great way to do this is by creating your own botanical or herbal cleansing water to do this. So something just like really easy and basic is creating a summer pot with lemon and rosemary. Because both of these can be used in physical and spiritual cleansing. And then once you allow
00:11:47
Speaker
the summer pot to come to kind of like a room temperature or even just like warm, you can use that then to clean off your spaces and also use it for that spiritual cleansing as well. You can also use it to put like protective sigils on your doors and your windows and just all throughout your home.
00:12:11
Speaker
I also read that once you start doing spring cleaning, and I don't think my little ADD birdbrain would never be able to do this, but it says that it's best to start at the furthest point from your front door and work around. If you have multiple floors, you start top to bottom and you work around from the back of your house to the front of the house and out your front door.
00:12:39
Speaker
my brain is like, oh, what's this over here? Oh, I have to do this one over here. Oh wait, I need to put this thing over here. So that would never work for me. But if you could do that, you're supposed to do that apparently. That's how I, it makes sense because that's how I like cleanse my house. Like whenever I'm actually like just doing like, um, like cleaning out the energy with like fire cleansing and stuff like that, that's how I do it. So I can see like,
00:13:09
Speaker
That would be the purpose of it, too. For me doing like that type of cleansing, I can do that. But when it's like, oh, I need to put this thing away and I go put it away and then I'm like, oh, this thing over here, like every time I see something. So I'm like all over the place when I clean all the time. So if you don't have ADD and you're able to focus and not get distracted, start at the furthest point and work your way around. But you have ADD.
00:13:37
Speaker
And you can't do that. It's fine. Do what works for you. And another thing I read is that it's generally believed that you should start with cleaning your windows first as they're thought to be the eyes of the home. So you would clean them first to allow positive energy to come in and aid you in your cleaning rituals. And since windows are considered the eyes of the home, the surfaces are then considered the skin and the floors are considered the feet.
00:14:04
Speaker
I thought that was really interesting but also a little creepy. I like the personification of it because if you're thinking about it that way, it's easier to understand why we do more of the top-down cleansing. It's not just because, oh, the dust is going to travel down. It's like you're putting more of a meaning behind it.
00:14:23
Speaker
Yeah, but then to think of like, let me wipe this counter. That is the skin of my own. It might only just wipe down the skin. It puts the lotion in the basket. It gave me like Buffalo Bill vibes. Yeah, I can see that. I can absolutely see that. So outside of just like actually cleaning and decluttering your space,
00:14:50
Speaker
We always talk about, we've talked about this so many times, but energetically, you need to clean search space as well. And you can do this with things like incense, sage bundles, or Palo Santo. Obviously note the cultural appropriation versus appreciation here. And if you are someone like me who is super white, who does not have an indigenous background, just, you need to do your own research. And we're not going to tell you like, not to use this, whatever, but also like, there's a lot of cultural appropriation going on.
00:15:20
Speaker
There's a lot of things that are sacred and should be kept only within that particular culture.
00:15:28
Speaker
There's also things like Palo Santo is often over harvested, so you need to make sure when you're buying things like Palo Santo or if you are purchasing White Sage, you need to make sure that they're ethically sourced and especially when it comes to White Sage that you are purchasing it from indigenous companies. Yes.
00:15:52
Speaker
absolutely. So just make sure you do your own research there. But also like if you don't want to even deal with any of that, or you don't know if you should because it's a close practice, look at things like rosemary, lavender, cedar, clapping, using bells, anything like that can energetically cleanse your space without doing something that would be harmful to another culture.

Digital Decluttering and Stress Management

00:16:14
Speaker
You can also take this time to declutter your electronics too. And this is something that I've just recently started doing. And I don't know why, because we spend so much time on our devices that we really should make this more of a habit. But on that blog I was referencing earlier, My Moonstone Kitchen,
00:16:34
Speaker
When she spring cleans, she also makes an appoint to delete unused apps, screenshots that you don't need anymore, old emails, which I'm terrible at this. I have thousands of just emails that I don't know why I have them. I just need to delete them.
00:16:52
Speaker
Same are the people that host our email and our website for my work. They're always like, we just got like a warning that your inbox is really full. I'm like, I might need that email later. Right. I also was in the military and I can't tell you the amount of times that I would be like,
00:17:17
Speaker
six months later, delete an email. And then the next day, somebody would be like, you never sent this thing to me. And I'm like, son of a bitch, I just deleted my scent, like stuff. So I couldn't even be like, yes, I did. Here's the thing. Yeah. So it's like anxiety deleting emails now. It is. Yeah. Well, and whenever I first, like I have such an anxiety about it too, from the fact that whenever I was working in child welfare, there was a lawsuit
00:17:46
Speaker
someone had sued the state because of some miss, some, something really bad happened when a child died is all I'll say about it. But essentially because of that, we couldn't destroy anything. We couldn't destroy the notes. We couldn't like delete any emails. And so I never, like, I always just was like, I might need this later. Somebody's going to have to read this. Like, and so it's after doing that for so many years, I still have
00:18:13
Speaker
I still function like that. Um, it's hard to get emails, but you know, do that though. Don't we're, we're going to try and be better at that too. Um, you can work with us on that. Um, and also something terrible that I do is I don't, I always have like multiple browsing apps or browsing tabs open, um, on my phone and on my desktop and on my laptop and on everything. So close out browsing tabs that have been left open that you don't need anymore.
00:18:42
Speaker
I have 30 tabs open right now as we delete them. I might need it later. I don't have that many right now just because I just recently got a new phone. I imagine my old phone, which I still use because I haven't transferred everything over to my new phone. I'm sure there's probably like probably pretty close to 32.
00:19:10
Speaker
Also, unfollowing social media accounts that no longer speak to you. This is something that I really need to make more of a point of because I don't ever do that. And then I'll come across like something on my For You page or somebody posting something on Facebook. And I'm like, why am I still friends with this person? Why do I follow this person on social media? It's weird. But doing that can also
00:19:39
Speaker
reduce your emotional mental clutter. I do that randomly. Something will come up and then I'll be like, oh, I need to remember to delete that and then I'll forget. And then they'll like, for whatever reason, it's like they start posting in spurts where I'm like, okay, it's coming up every day and it's driving me insane. And I'll hyper focus and go through my entire friends list and be like, nope, nope, nope, nope.
00:20:04
Speaker
It's yeah, definitely make a point of doing that, especially on social media. Because I feel like why are we giving our time and energy to content creators that really don't do anything for us anymore? Yeah, no. Just delete it. But another way to kind of
00:20:21
Speaker
help with that emotional and mental clutter related to work. If you're working and you're feeling overwhelmed or stressed at work, think about methods you can use to take some of those things off of your plate. I mean, some things aren't realistic, but some things might be. And then as far as people, people are a huge emotional and mental stress for a lot of us. And so if there are people in your life that are draining your energy,
00:20:47
Speaker
Think about, is it appropriate to set boundaries for interactions with these people or be less available to them to reduce your mental and emotional clutter? Because that's something that we often don't think about and we surround ourselves with people that might actually be causing us more harm than good. But because we're like, oh, I don't want to be a bad person. I don't want them to think of me badly. We continue to pour into those relationships when we don't need to.
00:21:14
Speaker
just think about that as well. And then making sure like this is something that we talk about a lot. We don't really talk about when it comes to spring cleaning, but it's just as important. But making sure whenever you are crafting these spring cleaning rituals to take time to craft out time for your own self-care. Think about, are you practicing self-care enough? Are there things that you can incorporate to do this? So
00:21:38
Speaker
things like maintaining a clutter-free environment, which ties directly back to spring cleaning rituals, going for walks, meditating, making space for magical work within your day, so clearing out the clutter of your day-to-day life to make space for your magical work, and then also making room for things and people that you love and who energize you.

Using Elements in Spring Cleaning

00:21:59
Speaker
Those are all wonderful ways to take care of your emotional and mental clutter. And so another thing that
00:22:07
Speaker
you can do is also incorporating the four elements into your spring cleaning rituals. We've had an entire episode on the four elements and what they represent, but the four elements, essentially they embody the natural world and are integral in our existence and thriving life on earth. And I got that from tiny ritual. And I was just like, you couldn't have said it better than that, right? Perfect.
00:22:32
Speaker
That was perfect. But just for also as a refresher to those of you who might not have listened to our Elements episode, and if you haven't, shame on you, but also please do. Shame. But it has been a while. So for those of you who have listened but don't remember, each element represents a cardinal point on the compass. So usually
00:22:57
Speaker
starting with east, we have air, moving south, fire, west, correlates to water, and north correlates to earth. So starting with air, you can invite the element of air into your spring cleaning to cleanse and clear. And you can do this symbolically by smudging. Again, understand the cultural reasoning behind smudging first and understand that this is something
00:23:20
Speaker
You should do, based on your culture and background, again, do your own research. But you can also do this with incense, opening up doors and windows, turning on a fan, ringing bells, waving around a feather. All of these things are ways that you can incorporate air into your spring cleaning without actually turning on a fan, waving a feather around, opening up the doors and windows. I mean, you don't even have to buy anything for any of that. No.
00:23:46
Speaker
So how you would do this is you would start in the east corner of your home or whatever room you're in if you're cleaning room by room and walk clockwise to cleanse your home. And while you're doing this, you want to state an intention as well. So while working with the element of air, what you can do is also state your intentions while dusting your bookshelves, windowsills, aka the eyes of the room.
00:24:15
Speaker
Wiping down like your desks, your shelves, et cetera. Sweep in each room and making sure to sweep your porch or by your front door to symbolically sweep out the old energy and pull down any cobwebs and sweep behind your furniture.
00:24:31
Speaker
And when you're opening up all the windows, if it's a really breezy day, it's the perfect time to do it. Just open it, let all the wind or light breeze just blow through your home and cleanse out all that energy.
00:24:45
Speaker
Yeah. And so moving on to the next element of fire, you can invite the element of fire to cleanse and purify the air. And an easy way to do this is just by burning candles. And you can incorporate candles made with herbs, essential oils, et cetera, that speak to the intentions you want to set within your home.
00:25:04
Speaker
So this doesn't have to be like some super expensive candle or something that you buy off of Etsy, which we obviously recommend giving back to small businesses. But if all you have is a Yankee candle and you really relate to the smell of vanilla, use that. And just set intentions that you want to set within your home based on vanilla. I mean, vanilla is a very comforting set, right? So maybe you're wanting to incorporate more comfort and peace
00:25:32
Speaker
and happiness into your home, there you go. There's your intention and burn your vanilla candle. It's fine. Another thing you can do with fire is to quote-unquote burn the old. So if you have any old intentions written down in journals, under plants, with your crystals, burn these in a fireproof bowl or cauldron or in a bonfire. And this is a way to cut the energetic ties. And this can be used for anything that you want to get rid of, as long as it's safe to burn.
00:26:01
Speaker
Yeah, I'm sure it's safe to burn. When you're burning things like incense, resins, or herbs, a few good ones that you can use. So sacred tree resins like cobalt or frankincense have antiseptic and disinfectant properties that can help cleanse the home. It's also said that they can help boost the immune system to help you prevent illness. So you get a little bonus out of that.
00:26:27
Speaker
And then herbs like rosemary, lavender thyme, sage peppermint, and red sandalwood powder are all herbs that were used to make four thieves' incense, which is also antiseptic, antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiviral. And it was used in purification and cleansing of spaces after illnesses. And we've discussed four thieves multiple times on the podcast.
00:26:52
Speaker
And I've even shared my own recipe for it on our social media. So if you're interested, it's definitely on our Instagram. If I remember, I'll try to make like a little mental note to repost it when this episode comes out. But if not, it's already there. You might just have to dig a little bit. And then like Sam said, you could also just light a few candles to invite fire into your spring cleaning ritual as well. Like if smoke isn't your thing, if burning incense, maybe you don't live somewhere where you can do that.
00:27:22
Speaker
Um, candles are perfectly fine too. Yeah. And what you have, I use what you have and you can even, I've seen a lot of like something that's really popular right now are these like,
00:27:33
Speaker
candle burning disc things where you don't, it's like a candle melting disc or, I don't know, something. Yeah. That way you don't have a flame. Yeah. Well, so you can buy them now for like your coffee cups. And I've seen people using those, putting like jar candles on top of it and it's melting them. Yes. And I mean, you know, like do what works for you. If you can't burn candles
00:27:58
Speaker
this might be a great option for you too. It's fine. So moving on to water, you can invite the element of water into your home and the washes and cleaning solutions that you use. Obviously, we already mentioned this, cleaning your windows and really any surface in your home with the cleansing water solution that you use, mop any bare floors, and then some of the essential oils that you can use, for instance, like if you're wanting to
00:28:23
Speaker
spark joy into your home, things like orange, lemon or grapefruit. If you're wanting to add protection back into your home, rosemary and lemon or lavender is great with this. Really just, I mean, a quick Google search and you can find anything you want. You can also use like Florida water or infused vinegar with cleansing herbs or simply just add those herbs to your cleansing water, like your mop water or whatever.
00:28:49
Speaker
One of my favorite ones to do is infusing white vinegar with rosemary and lavender. So I fill a jar about like half to two thirds full with the herb. And then I cover it with white vinegar all the way, shake it up really good.
00:29:04
Speaker
and I pop that in a dark cupboard for four to six weeks. And then after four to six weeks of it infusing, I strain out the herbs and I use that as a surface cleaner. And then castile soap is also a go-to of mine. And I try to avoid spending too much on cleaning products when I can make safer ones at home with things like vinegar or baking soda or castile soap and add, if I want a certain scent, you can add a little bit of
00:29:34
Speaker
essential oil to it or infuse it with herbs and flowers and you get the same outcome. Yeah. And then just take this time to really cleanse your entire home. Like we've been saying, clean your walls, clean your doors, clean your windows, your furniture, floors, any other surface of the house, just really wipe everything down. Another great way to incorporate the water element is through a simmer pot.
00:30:00
Speaker
add things like lemon, rosemary, thyme, or just any cleansing herb to the pot and let it simmer all day. Like the bonus is that the house will smell amazing but you also get the cleansing properties and if you're using things like rosemary or sandalwood powder or lemons you're also getting like
00:30:18
Speaker
antibacterial, antiviral, all of those other things that are going to help cleanse out any illnesses or viruses. So you're getting an extra little boost out of those. And then something important when using a simmer pot during spring cleaning is to make sure that once you shut it off and it's cooled down, you dispose of the water when you're finished because you want to get rid of all of that old stagnant, you don't want it just sitting around.
00:30:45
Speaker
Absolutely. So moving on to earth, you can invite the element of earth into your spring cleaning to ensure endurance, strength, support, fertility, and abundance. Yeah, like the home doesn't just include what's inside the four walls of your house, but this also extends to your outdoor areas. So if you have a porch or a patio, take the time to like sweep or even mop it. Wipe down your outer door, your storm door if you have one.
00:31:13
Speaker
For me, I have vinyl siding, so everything that's underneath my porch cover, I wipe down the vinyl siding as well with Castile soap, water, and tea tree oil mix, because not only does it give a good smell, it makes everything nice and clean, but it also helps repel bugs when you add the tea tree oil to it, so it's really nice.
00:31:37
Speaker
And then make sure that you also wipe down your patio furniture during this process, and you can add any protections that you want to. So you can use your cleansing water to draw protection schedules on your doors and windows, or even use a selenite rod to draw them under your doormat. That's one of my go-to methods.
00:31:55
Speaker
I also add a little protection jar to my outdoor table and it's like full of herbs and salts and like just everything that's like a protection blend. And I just put that on my little table on my like front porch with the little flower pot and stuff. So like even if people see it, I don't think they would be like, ew, what is that? You know?

Dandelions, Violets, and Self-care

00:32:14
Speaker
Mm hmm.
00:32:15
Speaker
I love that. I definitely want you to see a little picture of yours because now I am motivated. I want to do that to my back patio because we're making our back patio. We're zhuzhing it up and making it like an oasis. Cute. Our little outdoor area and that we can sit out there and I would love to do this. The little jars that I use, we get them from Costco. They come with like little tiramisu and then wash it out.
00:32:42
Speaker
And these like little perfect, small, like, yeah, I fill them with salt and lavender and like bay leaves and crystals. And I am of their past. They're perfect. Speaking of like plants and stuff.
00:33:00
Speaker
a great way to incorporate earth into your spring cleaning rituals is to tend to your plants. So wipe off their leaves. They get so dusty. Wipe them down, talk to them, remove dead leaves or flowers, trim anything that needs to be trimmed or harvest anything that needs to be harvested. And also repot anything that needs to be repotted. There's so many times that like you don't realize until you're like,
00:33:25
Speaker
tending to your plants that like, oh shit, this needs to be repotted. This needs to be separated. We need to make multiple plants out of this because they're not thriving. And just make sure you're taking care of your plants is a great way to incorporate earth.
00:33:38
Speaker
Also cleansing your crystals. We have a whole episode on cleansing, charging and vanishing. So check that out for more detailed information, but you can cleanse your crystals overnight by the moon. Some can be cleansed in the sun or in the water or by being buried in the earth. But of course, as with everything, be careful. We've discussed, of course, this in previous episodes. So do your own research and make sure that the crystals that you are, like whatever cleansing method you're using for your crystals,
00:34:07
Speaker
is something that can be used for those crystals. But you can also cleanse crystals in a bowl of sea salt with incense. That's one of my go-to ways is especially if I'm like not paying attention to the moon cycles and I've done a really terrible job of it this month. But if I'm going to work on a spell and I
00:34:27
Speaker
want to use a specific crystal, but I haven't cleansed it in a while. I will take my incense and I will cleanse it myself and then I will charge it with my hands. You can also cleanse crystals and potted plants, which I've never done before, but I was reading about that. I mean, it makes sense. Yeah. Because you can bury them in the earth and it makes this one effect, but I just, I never thought of that. I love that. I haven't either. And so now I'm going to be putting my crystals all over my potted
00:34:56
Speaker
So many potted plants, so perfect. Another way to incorporate earth into your spring cleaning is to bring a little bit of the outdoors inside. You can add some elements of spring to your altar if you have one. Put some spring flowers in a vase to enjoy in your home, or you can even forage some edible spring herbs and flowers to use for cooking. So right now, two of my favorites this time of year, which I've mentioned them at the beginning,
00:35:25
Speaker
dandelions I use to make dandelion wine with. Dandelion plants are edible and nutritious from flower to root and they're medicinally great for detoxifying your liver as well. You can make dandelion tea, roast the root and use it as coffee, saute the greens or even just add the raw greens to your salad.
00:35:46
Speaker
um basically the uses for dandelions are limitless they're not a like useless weed so if you have them in your yard tend to them you know bring them in dry them out use them in your food they're fantastic and then the other one is wild violets so these are great for decorating a salad making a violet simple syrup and fusing an alcohol of your choice and even adding it to your water or lemonade and though like this year i'm actually going to attempt
00:36:15
Speaker
a wild violet wine recipe that I found on our brewers page that I follow but I also use them in my bath so if you do a little self-care you can add a little cute little like handful of them to your bath they'll um bleed a little bit of the purple color it's so pretty I love them and so that could lead into the next section which is cleansing yourself
00:36:37
Speaker
So Sam already touched on like self care a little bit, but remember that spring cleaning just, it doesn't just mean you're home. So take this time to also cleanse yourself.
00:36:48
Speaker
You can make this as elaborate or as simple as you want to, but some ideas could be meditation, which Sam also already mentioned, but use that to cleanse and declutter your mind. You can do a ritual bath or shower to literally cleanse your body. If it's a breezy or windy day, just go stand outside and feel the wind blowing away that stagnant or negative energy from you, and then take some time to ground yourself while you're out there.
00:37:15
Speaker
and fill yourself with the energy of the earth. You can practice a little bit of self-care while you're at it like pop on a face mask, give yourself a manicure or pedicure, exfoliate your skin, and as you're doing some of these things like feel that negative or stale or stagnant energy like leaving your body and then the renewed energy of spring recharging you. You can also take this time to set some intentions which
00:37:39
Speaker
Sam mentioned multiple times earlier in the podcast, setting intentions and saying these things while you're cleaning. You can do that while you're doing a little bit of self-care and self-cleansing. And some spring correspondences for cleaning. For protection, you can use anise, basil, bay leaves, vergemont, black pepper, cayenne, cedar wood, cinnamon clove, cumin,
00:38:07
Speaker
Cypress, fennel seed, frankincense, garlic, hystop, lavender, lemon, lilac, marjoram, mugwort, mustard seed, myrrh, onions, parsley, patchouli, peppermint, pine, rose, rosemary, sage, salt, sandalwood, and violets.
00:38:25
Speaker
And for purification and cleansing, some of these are going to double, but anise, bay leaves, black pepper, cedarwood, chamomile, cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus, fennel, frankincense, garlic, high-sop, lavender, lemon, lime, marjoram, myrrh, onion, parsley, peppermint, pine, rosemary, sage, salt, sandalwood, star anise, thyme, and vervein. I love it. I know.
00:38:52
Speaker
And it can all be stuff that you have in your cabinets. Obviously I don't have a remain in my cabinets, but like I definitely have Rosemary. I have a remain in my cabinets. Right. But like a lot of people might not. I have lots of things in my cabinets. But I wanted to give like the full spectrum because at first I was like, Oh, I'll just give like one or two. And then I was like, well,
00:39:22
Speaker
I'm going to give them all. That way we cover everything. Someone's going to have at least one thing on these. Absolutely. And someone's going to have something, and you can use it. So it's perfect. Yeah. So there you go. Sweet. That's all I had. All right. Perfect. Perfect.
