Arsenal's Transfer Triumph

00:00:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Welcome back to the Global Sports Podcast Network Daily Premier League Podcast. You are joined today by a very, very giddy Nick after some breaking exclusive transfer news this evening.
00:00:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
And for the first time this season, i have someone with me. Victor, welcome back to the show.
00:00:31
Viktor
Nick, how's it going, my man? How is everything overseas? Yeah.
00:00:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
What a day to be an Arsenal fan.
00:00:38
Viktor
yeah
00:00:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
we If you haven't seen it somehow, barrier is a has been hijacked by Arsenal. He now looks set to go to the red side North London rather than the white after it looked like Tottenham had hijacked Arsenal's move for him ah initially.
00:00:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll probably get more into it as we discuss the first impressions that teams have made in the Premier League this weekend. We'll kick it off with the top four and shall we start with Arsenal?
00:01:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Seeing as they've had the breaking news today, ah really low quality performance of the weekend and I think you're looking at that squad and you think the left wing spot is the issue before Havertz obviously was announced injured today.
00:01:08
Viktor
Yeah.
00:01:20
Viktor
Yeah.
00:01:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
do you think Eze can come in and sort of fill the left wing slot?
00:01:25
Viktor
Yeah. I feel like after watching that game, Arsenal definitely needs an extra player or two because I don't know. we Time will show if United is actually pretty decent this year or that was just a really bad day for Arsenal. But I would say United outplayed Arsenal and United deserved more than just losing 1-0.
00:01:44
Viktor
But I feel like after Havertz's injury, they definitely need reinforcements.

Eze's Potential at Arsenal

00:01:48
Viktor
And i don't know why it took them so long to just get the deal done with Eze. they didn't even quit in the first place. Eze is literally the perfect player for Arsenal for that team to come in on that side.
00:01:59
Viktor
You can play him behind the striker. You can play him on the left side. Yeah, it will give you so many options.
00:02:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it's so exciting ah for the fan base as well because this is the player who was in the academy at a really young age. He's, by account, an Arsenal fan. He's spoken in interviews about wanting to... Well, maybe not wanting to return at some point, but talk about his sort of affiliation with Arsenal.
00:02:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
So this is someone who has already got buy-in from the fans. And when it seemed like it had fallen apart... it's one of those stories where it kind of makes the fan base toxic already.
00:02:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
So with him now being taken away from Spurs and coming to Arsenal, it seems... I don't think I've seen the Arsenal fan base in such high spirits in such a long time.
00:02:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
right
00:02:53
Viktor
Yeah.
00:02:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Especially after... the you the game at the weekend and then the news about Trussard's new contract, which is just more money but not a not an extension, which makes no sense.
00:03:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah And then Havertz, his injury news today, it felt like we were setting up for a Nico Jackson loan sort of deadline day move, just something typically Arsenal. And then to get this news today, it It's an entertaining player as well. I think that's so important for this Arsenal team.
00:03:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
A little bit of a maverick compared to what we have in attack. So I think he'll he'll offer such different solutions in that attack to but right the other players.
00:03:31
Viktor
yeah yeah
00:03:34
Viktor
I agree. yeah It will give you too many options. You can play him anywhere, as as I mentioned before, because that type of player arsenal does not have. I can't think of anyone that can they can play that position. They can be in the box in time. Okay, you have Autogard, but he can still play a little bit behind and control the game more. But Eze is a guy that you You can count on his goals as well.
00:03:54
Viktor
Free kicks. ah He has so much to offer to that Arsenal team. And I feel like ah I'm surprised a little bit by Eze by not pushing this for Arsenal. Like coming to Crystal Pass saying, hey, I actually want to go to Arsenal. That's my team. I don't want to be sold to Spurs.
00:04:11
Viktor
and But yeah, it it took it a while. But I think they're going to get it done. And it's going to happen very, very quickly.
00:04:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, before we end up talking about Arsenal and Jose for the whole podcast, I'd happily do.

Liverpool's Defensive Woes

00:04:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's move to Liverpool. They were obviously looking great in attack on Friday night, but we saw the problems many thought they'd have with defending the counter-attacks, the transitions.
00:04:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
They may wait to see how they deal that ah with Gravenbirch's return. Obviously, was suspended for that first game and was having a ah child when they played the Community Shield.
00:04:47
Viktor
ah
00:04:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do you think they need someone sort of defensively might more defensively minded in midfield before the window closes?
00:04:54
Viktor
I would say that they even need Gehi, to be honest with you, because they need someone that's going to bite on the attackers. and they don't have the Van Dijk is getting old, and it's also containing too often. yeah We saw that for the second goal.
00:05:07
Viktor
It took him forever to even step in. Nobody stepped in. If Van Dijk doesn't step in on that goal, at least what you can do is command one of your players to step in. I know it was like a three on two or whatever, but at some point you have to commit to the tackle. You can't just let them get to the 20 yard line and just take a shot.
00:05:24
Viktor
So yeah, they definitely need another defender, someone they can, they can be there for for a long time and get, he's obviously younger. So you need to step in, in that pursuit, I would say to get that done as soon as possible. I'm not impressed by Liverpool at all.
00:05:38
Viktor
They're definitely behind. I would say other teams, even in terms of maybe fitness, We saw that in the and the cup final against the Crystal Palace. um And in the first game, yeah, they were they were lacking a lot of things.
00:05:53
Viktor
and there're They're still not ready. if if They need to pick it up pretty quickly.
00:05:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I don't think they've quite chilled yet. Obviously, they've got a lot of new players. that's going to be that betting in period. I still think you look at their their midfield and say it's Gravenberg, Soboslai and Wurtz. And I'm looking at them and wondering...
00:06:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
what help they're going to get in defense because obviously Sobside's really good in terms of pressing but when he's got to turn around and run backwards I don't know if they quite have the stuff for that maybe they don't deal with that deal with that this year but my my early early shout I think they'll sign Belieber next year and to have that sort of guy who can defend in big spaces better than think Craig Runberch I think so next year
00:06:19
Viktor
yeah
00:06:40
Viktor
You think Liverpool is going to sign Baliba? i I don't think so. I think Baliba is going to go to United. I have a feeling he he's going to go to United. He's going to pick United himself.
00:06:51
Viktor
That's how I look at Maliba.
00:06:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
he's a United fan, isn't he? I just wonder if, if Liverpool really well again this year, is it difficult to, is it difficult to turn down?
00:06:54
Viktor
Yeah. so Yeah.
00:06:58
Viktor
that That's going to be the deciding factor, I think, for him. He needs to see that United is going to be in the top in order for him to to feel like, okay, I might be the missing puzzle for them for for next year.
00:07:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:07:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:07:09
Viktor
But I'm not even ruling it out this year, to be honest. You know how how transfer windows can can be.
00:07:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:07:15
Viktor
They'll say, oh, nothing's going to happen. The owners will say, we're not selling him this year just so they can build up, like even get more money. And then the last day or two, everything can happen. So we can talk after in September about what happened with Baleba, but I'm not ruling it out.
00:07:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
I also wouldn't be surprised.
00:07:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah I was going to say, I wouldn't be surprised if he he gets a new contract at Brighton just to be on a little bit more money, but with ah an agreement next year that, yeah, you you can go.
00:07:38
Viktor
Yeah. Yeah.
00:07:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
like
00:07:42
Viktor
yeah
00:07:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
One more thing on Liverpool. Do you think with that that inability to deal against the counterattacks, or we'll see tweaks over the season or even within games to to try and nullify that threat, are there any players you're looking at to to help with that in their squad?
00:07:58
Viktor
Yeah, um I was thinking about that, but who who are you going to sign? yeah I mean, they already brought a lot of new players. The only person I can think of is Isak, and he's not a defensive player, obviously.
00:08:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
they
00:08:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
it like it doesn't help it doesn't help what their problems seem like they're going to be.
00:08:09
Viktor
So, yeah.
00:08:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
They've obviously got Endo who's like their...
00:08:15
Viktor
I feel like Luis Diaz was a mistake to sell because he was working defensively as well. He can run back and no issues there. and I don't know if you're just leaving...
00:08:28
Viktor
I mean, Gakpo on the left side. Okay, Kitike can play there as well and run back, but you need to have a team that's going to play as a team because you have all these new offensive players. That doesn't mean as is as good as they are, they need to work as a team. So it might take a while for them to click, to organize.
00:08:47
Viktor
yeah
00:08:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
it's not They don't have attacking players.
00:08:49
Viktor
i just don't I just don't see Liverpool winning it winning it this year. Let me put it that right away out there.
00:08:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think they do just out of the sheer amount of quality they have, but... i When you look at that attack, though, you don't and don't have players who are going to retain the ball. They're all guys who want to get the ball and drive forward.
00:09:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think that doesn't help the the issues going have.

Manchester City's Squad Assessment

00:09:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
We move on to Man City. I don't think there was a lot to see and criticise this weekend from them. It's obviously an opponent that they do really well against.
00:09:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
They seem to have tweaked to slightly more counterattacking, obviously, with Reinders, who is going to get the ball and run. But it's so good.
00:09:34
Viktor
What a player. what a What a buy. What a buy.
00:09:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't get how they got him so cheap.
00:09:38
Viktor
so So simple.
00:09:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:09:40
Viktor
So effective. I mean, I i remember him during his time as at Milan because I play a lot of fantasy sports. So i he was always one of my favorite players to pick.
00:09:50
Viktor
But yeah, he's such an X factor in him.
00:09:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:09:55
Viktor
he He'll bring a lot to to the city squad. We'll see how that goes. Again, as you mentioned, it's not the typical city side that you just see the possession and everything, but they're more effective now, I would say.
00:10:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
We didn't see though those issues they may have. Are there any issues you look at the squad and think they might have this season?
00:10:07
Viktor
More clinical.
00:10:17
Viktor
um they need to put a world class right back I think that's a position they're they're lacking right now they have few players that are just like changing every game but it's they need that one guy that's going to be there all the time yeah
00:10:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's what I think.
00:10:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
I
00:10:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think you also you also look at the midfield and the the issues they had last year in terms of defending counter-attacks, similar to what we talked about with Liverpool, especially with Rodri out until mid-September or however long it seems like it's going to be.
00:10:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
But even with him, I think the midfielders they've brought in aren't going to put in a shift offensively. As good as Rinders is going to be with the ball, One of like the standout things when you watched him at Milan was he wasn't going to put in a shift offensively.
00:11:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
And if you isolate him one b one he's not going to do much to help you.
00:11:04
Viktor
Thank you.
00:11:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I still think they might have issues with that. But yeah, you look at right back and with how... poor Rico Lewis was last year. Maybe he makes a step up this year, but he got isolated a lot in terms of putting that ball to the back post and having a taller guy on him. And it was, it was so easy for people to punish.
00:11:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I,
00:11:27
Viktor
I feel like his' positioning is the biggest issue and Pep sees that in him. So so that's why he's not the usual right back for him. And I feel like Pep gets pissed at him every after every game or two and then he's trying something new.
00:11:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, you don't really see any other options either. like When I was looking at all the squads last week, it's like, maybe Kusunov, but if it's going to be anyone, it's going to have to be a centre-back that you kind of force to play right back, which might may help with their dynamics a little bit more with Ait Nuri on the other side, but yeah it's definitely an area you look at in that squad considering the amount of quality they have they don't really have anything there and with the links away for Rico Lewis to Forest as well you think they may look to add something there before the window closes
00:12:17
Viktor
knowing Pep he always has an eye on something but we'll see how it ends up I don't think they're going to get a right back I think Pep is going to try to to get the best out of Rico and then hope that it's going to he still has another game before before the transfer window So I think that's going to give him a better idea of of what he needs to do.
00:12:37
Viktor
and and ah And again, yeah, this is going to be a good test for them against Spurs next next round. because we saw but
00:12:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:12:43
Viktor
And Spurs is a team that plays counterattacking, so they're going to get that and they're gonna get exposed. so we'll see how they react to it.

Chelsea's Creative Struggles

00:12:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, on to Chelsea. I think mainly a creativity issue at the weekend against Palace. It took until the 90th minute for Palma create a chance. Jean-Pedro didn't create a chance in his 73 minutes on the pitch.
00:13:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think as a teams know they're going to be good, we saw I sort of saw this with our Arsenal after twenty two twenty three where teams are just going to sit deep against you and force you to break them down. Yeah.
00:13:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
I look at their squad and wonder if they have anyone who can do that. it doesn't I don't think creation is necessarily Palmer's like primary attribute. Do you think that's an issue they're going to
00:13:25
Viktor
as
00:13:27
Viktor
As much as I hate to say it, they need Garnaccio. Because i'm um as a United fan, I'm not a fan of Garnaccio because of the way he acts towards things and how he is even now towards the club.
00:13:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
have?
00:13:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:13:42
Viktor
But I feel like he's a very dangerous player and he's going to do damage for Chelsea on the left side. So that's that's maybe the one missing piece that that Chelsea needs right now.
00:13:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
the
00:13:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
You look at the amount of wingers they have though and...
00:13:55
Viktor
Yeah.
00:13:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Gittins didn't impress at the weekend he got brought off after about 50 minutes but they've got Esteval who can come off the bench who is obviously incredibly promising but we don't really know what to expect at a Premier League level yet and like I was saying I wonder if Xavi Simmonds potentially coming in is is that solution to breaking down lower to mid blocks but I wonder if we'll see that issue
00:14:00
Viktor
yeah
00:14:10
Viktor
right
00:14:21
Viktor
they already have two world class holding mitts it just it it just needs to click for them to kind of get to the next level and
00:14:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:14:30
Viktor
Palmer against he needs to start stepping up again because he's been pretty quiet the last few months. The last few months of last season and this first game was really nothing from him.
00:14:42
Viktor
So he will definitely need to step up.
00:14:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:14:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Are there any other contenders for the top four? that Or do you think these the lock-ins for that top four?
00:14:51
Viktor
i I'll tell you this. ah You'll hate it. But after watching United play here in Chicago and after watching United play against Arsenal, United's going to get in top four. He's going to finish fourth.
00:15:03
Viktor
i don't I don't see Spurs. I don't see Chelsea getting ahead of us. And again, once we get the goalie situation resolved, I'm not even worried about the center mid right now. I just need a new goalie there, and then that United team's going to get to fourth.
00:15:18
Viktor
And that's what we need
00:15:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just wonder with United, similar to what we were speaking about with Chelsea just then, once you once you have to like go at a team who are just settled, can United deal with that?
00:15:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think you can definitely deal with it better than last year, but I still think it'll be an issue.
00:15:35
Viktor
Well, United has another advantage. United doesn't play anywhere this year.
00:15:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that's true.
00:15:39
Viktor
No Champions League. So they're going to have at least like 10 games less than and then the rest. So that's a big advantage, I think, on like focusing on the goal that you have. Let's say that if that's top four, which I would assume that's the goal for Ruben Amarim.
00:15:53
Viktor
No.
00:15:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do you see any chance for the likes of Villa, the likes of Newcastle?
00:15:58
Viktor
no
00:16:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Me neither.
00:16:00
Viktor
Newcastle, if they had Isaac, yeah, but clearly he's not going to play again. And Aston Villa is not the same.
00:16:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:16:06
Viktor
We saw that game against Brentford. I mean, i' not Brentford. and The first game, they in Newcastle, yeah.
00:16:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Against Newcastle, yeah.
00:16:11
Viktor
they they were They were nowhere near what they used to be. And they lost a lot of offensive players. They lost Bailey now. They lost Rashford. They lost ah Isco.
00:16:21
Viktor
Not Isco.
00:16:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Essencio.
00:16:25
Viktor
The Spanish guy. Asensio, yeah. So they they lost a lot of the players that they can count on. They don't have that depth anymore. So I don't see Aston Villa getting top four, not even top five.
00:16:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah this ah One of the Man United journalists for the Athletic, Karl Anker, he does these amnesty predictions. And mine my is, I think Villa start to fall away this year and Emery might be gone by like November next year.
00:16:45
Viktor
Yeah.
00:16:52
Viktor
yeah
00:16:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah i think I think it begins to fall apart. But yeah, I don't think...
00:16:57
Viktor
Yeah, yeah that was that was a really bad game. I was expecting way more against the team of Newcastle that it's you would think they're shaken because of everything that's happening in the club.
00:17:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
They...
00:17:06
Viktor
They don't have a forward. and Gordon had to play as a number nine. Yeah, that was very bad.
00:17:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.

Promoted Teams' Performance

00:17:13
Viktor
And I want to see how they're going to react in the next game against Brentford because Brentford is another team that this year will struggle.
00:17:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's hear about...
00:17:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll talk a bit about Brentford's potential um relegation threat later. Let's hear a bit about Zenkata and then we'll talk about the three teams who came up and how they impressed at the weekend.
00:18:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
So it was two wins and a loss amongst the newly promoted teams of the weekend. Sunderland and Leeds really impressed with wins. Maybe Leeds were a bit lucky, but have their first impressions of the weekend changed any opinions you have on their survival chances?
00:18:22
Viktor
Yeah, I think Leeds is stronger than I thought. I think i was very impressed of how early they pressed. they They should have scored at least three, four times in the first half. And playing against and Everton team who we know defends well, they created some chances.
00:18:38
Viktor
I think Leeds is one of the teams they're going to stay up. And I was also looking at the bench. like They have depth on the bench as well. It's not just like they have the first lineup and now they signed Okafor from Milan.
00:18:51
Viktor
Off the bench, They got Aronson, Gruev, who was playing last year, Harrison, the golden kid, and then Mecha, who scored the goal. Yeah, I think Leeds is going to survive this year, especially because you have teams like Brentford who will struggle.
00:19:06
Viktor
And then I'm sure there's going to be someone else as well that's going to say, even West Ham at this point, even Everton at this point. they were Okay, Everton brought some guys that I can think they'll they'll keep him up. But ah these new three teams, they're promoted.
00:19:21
Viktor
They're nowhere as bad as the three teams that got relegated last year in the Premier League. So it's going to be a different story. It will be a fight until the last rounds for who's going to get relegated.
00:19:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think I saw that it took until October the 4th for a promoted team to get a win last year. And we've already got two with wins this season.
00:19:39
Viktor
Yeah, it's crazy.
00:19:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
like ah Admittedly, Sunderland and Leeds, especially Sunderland, had sort of favourable games. you've got You've got a ah home game against a team who could be down there at the end of the year. But I think they both are really impressed Leeds, my main concern is the attack. I'm not necessarily convinced by their wingers.
00:20:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
i I looked through Pirou's goal catalogue from last year and he looks a very strong finisher, but I'm not entirely convinced by Nonto and Dan James.
00:20:14
Viktor
yeah
00:20:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
They may have done it last year, but... and I don't think either of them have proved it at Premier League level, even though there was quite a bit of hype around Nonto. His actual numbers weren't great, so I think they need something in attack still.
00:20:28
Viktor
I think Norton is going to be fine. It's just the problem is going to be how you're going to react to the other teams that have been in the Premier League for for so long, like Brentford.
00:20:41
Viktor
But again, ah and so and then you have Sunderland, who I thought it was going to be bottom easily. It's going to Deadbury to 20th place. And now they they got Chaka. They got some experience in that team.
00:20:53
Viktor
They have some other good solid players and they won the first game 3-0. So even Sunderland is out of the picture. So we'll see.
00:21:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
think I think with Sunderland as well, they're coming up and sort of doing it the right way, which may sound a little bit insulting, but sitting back and hitting on the counter, I think it's just what you have to do as a newly promoted team.
00:21:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
we saw
00:21:15
Viktor
Yeah.
00:21:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
we thought We saw Brentford come up and it's taken them a while to try to be a bit more expansive. And I think I have concerns about the output of their wingers, but I think How quick they are is going to be really beneficial.
00:21:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think they still maybe need a strike, but I don't know whether they'll do that now. They've got Muck, Gooey, or however it's said, on loan.
00:21:40
Viktor
Yeah.
00:21:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
And obviously, Mayender scored at the weekend. but
00:21:43
Viktor
And you you got a Dengra as well in You can tell right away. It's like a different new team because Chaka comes in and becomes a captain right away, which shows you that these guys are now going to have a new leader within the team.
00:21:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:21:56
Viktor
And it's going to be completely different picture from last year. Last year, I would say they, they luckily kind of got into the premier league and of the playoffs, but yeah, it's, this is a different team.
00:22:07
Viktor
And, uh,
00:22:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think my I had all three going down when I was speaking about them last week just because I think it's difficult to see any teams coming up and staying up after the last few years. But was really impressed with Sunderland.
00:22:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Leeds were really impressive as much as they were a bit lucky. Everton were a team I had a lot of hope for going into the season. And they dominated them, quite frankly. So those two...
00:22:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
kind of stood out. Sunderland, their next five games are Burnley away, Brentford home, Palace away, then Villa home and Forest away. They really need to take advantage of those next two to three games.
00:22:46
Viktor
yeah
00:22:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
But you how many do you see them getting from that? Because to me, I think they need between four and six at least.
00:22:57
Viktor
if they can get 3 wins I think it's going to be a good start for them out of the first 6 it's going to be huge for them to to start strong and
00:23:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:23:05
Viktor
build that confidence thinking, okay, we can actually hang with these guys. Yeah. But my worry is ah looking at Brentford and Wolves and Everton. Those are my three teams that's been here that's going to struggle this year.
00:23:24
Viktor
Especially Brentford.
00:23:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
If Yeah.
00:23:26
Viktor
Especially Brentford. Like you lost your three best players pretty much.
00:23:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:23:31
Viktor
You didn't really sign anyone big. and I mean, you you count on a number nine that barely played any minutes because of the forwards that you had. I don't know. Brentford's going to be in in a lot of trouble this year, I think.
00:23:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:23:46
Viktor
especially Especially if teams like Sunderland and Leeds pick up their stuff early on. um
00:23:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
If we quickly...
00:23:53
Viktor
and And this is going to be a good test. If Brentford loses to Aston Villa at home, that's going to send a signal to the league.
00:23:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:24:00
Viktor
Okay, Brentford is the easy target on us for this season. and yeah
00:24:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's quickly touch on Burnley. Obviously, they had the hardest opponent out of the three that came up in Spurs. i I didn't see the full game, but from what the highlights of the match of the day, there wasn't a lot to go off.
00:24:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
And...
00:24:21
Viktor
I did watch the full game and I can tell you Burnley is dangerous. this just The result 3-0 is not showing the full picture because they were dangerous.
00:24:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
I...
00:24:30
Viktor
Maybe because on fantasy, I had double Spurs defense and every time they went in attack, I was shaking because they were really dangerous. They could they could have scored and even the XG shows that. So I expect Burnley to pick it up as well.
00:24:44
Viktor
So I feel like there's five or six teams that are going to fight for relegation and Burnley might as well survive.
00:24:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
i
00:24:50
Viktor
We'll see how they react to this loss.
00:24:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
That first home game this weekend against Sunderland is huge because I think if they lose that, people will already rip them off.
00:24:59
Viktor
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:25:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
So then they need to...
00:25:00
Viktor
No.
00:25:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think they need to win it. i don't think they can even afford to draw it. So...
00:25:06
Viktor
I'm calling 1-0 win. They're going to keep clean shit in that game.
00:25:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Interesting. interesting
00:25:10
Viktor
they're goingnna keep clean shit in that game
00:25:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
they've They don't really have a favourable run until the end of October to November where they play Leeds, Wolves, West Ham and Brentford across a six-game stretch with Arsenal and Chelsea in between, but only Leeds is at home in in that run.
00:25:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we spoke about the confidence of that Sunderland need to get from these first few games.
00:25:32
Viktor
Yeah.
00:25:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
We saw Southampton struggle with confidence last year and it's Burnley just needs to kind of find a way to to keep going until that stretch, I think, and just pick

Relegation Battle Analysis

00:25:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
up points where they can. but That's the only team as of right now where I almost see no hope of them staying up.
00:25:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just don't think they have the quality across their entire team. but
00:25:54
Viktor
Yeah. Well, as you said, this game going to show that. It's going to show the real picture and Again, if they can get a win here and they can build from there, that's going to be good.
00:26:05
Viktor
For newly promoted teams, the biggest thing is to get a good schedule right away and at the beginning and then build that confidence. So by October, you have some points. You're not buried in the bottom.
00:26:16
Viktor
Yeah.
00:26:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's hear about Bionic and then we'll move on to the likes of Brentford that we were talking about who may be a threat from these newly promoted teams.
00:27:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
So with those newly promoted teams impressing, it's going to put a couple of teams on notice and at threat. We were speaking about Brentford. I think ones who are in that group are West Ham and Wolves especially, potentially Everton as well.
00:27:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I think their signings have been good enough to sort of push them away from that a little bit.
00:27:27
Viktor
yeah
00:27:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Are there any other teams who you think will look like they'll be at threat from relegation this year?
00:27:36
Viktor
No, I think those are my five or six teams. I think Bournemouth is going to be fine. they They have a lot of quality stuff and even losing like literally the entire defense, I think Sinesi can step in.
00:27:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:27:47
Viktor
He was one of my favorite guys years ago before even Huyzen and Zabarni came to the scene. Uh, And yeah, we we saw how dangerous they can be. If they keep Semenya, which they will, they still have a good good team. And Klivert, if he stays, so that's another player that once comes in, it's going to be a different picture for Bournemouth.
00:28:09
Viktor
Now, I don't see any other team than than those five. So the the three newly promoted teams, I see Brentford and i would say Wolves. but potentially west Potentially West Ham because you never know it with them.
00:28:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think, yeah.
00:28:23
Viktor
But again, Everton is going to be, yeah, Everton.
00:28:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
I've definitely got West Ham in there.
00:28:26
Viktor
So yeah, West Ham would be the sixth one. Everton, I think with the signings that they just got, I think they're going to be fine. Especially now with the new stadium, they want to play there. They have the the first game now over the weekend.
00:28:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:28:38
Viktor
So that's going to be very motivating for them.
00:28:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Do you think this positive start, especially if it continues, going force them to spend a bit more money before the window closes to try and help ensure their survival?
00:28:52
Viktor
Are you talking about Everton?
00:28:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
those Yeah, those three West Ham Wolves and Brentford.
00:28:55
Viktor
Oh, in general. Yeah, I mean, West Ham looked decent in preseason. don't know why. they they Maybe they just underestimated Sunderland and they just lost like that 3-0. But again, West Ham has a solid team. If they don't lose anyone in the next week or so, they they should be fine.
00:29:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
kind of disagree i west ham i think of the three i think if any of them are gonna go it will be west ham just because they have no athleticism across that entire squad but especially in midfield and it feels like if bowen isn't scoring which is very rare admittedly then they're in a hell of a lot of trouble and it's
00:29:19
Viktor
Really?
00:29:38
Viktor
If they lose Paqueta, then they're going to be in trouble, I think. That's... Yeah.
00:29:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
I wonder if he's... Because i think he had a bit of a down year, similar to Kudas last year. i think they both sort of had down years last year.
00:29:49
Viktor
Hmm.
00:29:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
and If he can get back to what we saw in his first season at West Ham, then sure, I think he can help them stay up. But I just look at that whole squad and you've got the likes of Ward Prowse, Suchek, Guido Rodriguez, Edson Alvarez, luckily for them, is so looking to leave. I thought he was one of the worst players in the league last year.
00:30:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
And they...
00:30:13
Viktor
I think he's already gone to Fenerbahce yeah
00:30:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, so that that midfield is just so slow, and I don't think you can live with that in the Premier League nowadays. So think someone like Dewsbury Hall, who's gone to Everton, should have been on West Ham's radar, I think.
00:30:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
he would help them massively. But even looking at their defense, I think Juve is a good signing at left-back, but the rest of their defense, I don't really see a lot to like.
00:30:38
Viktor
yeah
00:30:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I think West Ham are a team I'm very concerned about their ability to survive. In terms of Wolves, I'll let you speak about West Ham.
00:30:50
Viktor
and like ah feel like bowen where yeah I feel like Bowen is the type of player that can score in any game.
00:30:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:30:58
Viktor
He has that luck, and I think he's going to keep him up.
00:31:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:31:02
Viktor
He's going to be that one one guy that's going to make the difference for them. And Fulcrook had a great preseason, and if he stays fit, that's another advantage for them. But we'll see how if he's going to stay fit.
00:31:14
Viktor
Fulcrook a guy you cannot count on in terms of like fitness. He gets injured often.
00:31:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:31:19
Viktor
and
00:31:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Again, though, with full crickets, another slow player, isn't it? So you just look across that squad and see no no pace.
00:31:24
Viktor
Yeah. Yeah.
00:31:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Moving on to Wolves, I think you looked at them on the weekend and Strand Larsen's really, I really like him. He was had a really good season last year.
00:31:36
Viktor
yeah
00:31:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
But you look at the people next to him in attack and there's no one at the moment. So I think they need to get him some help and I think they need some defensive reinforcements. But Wolves are typically a club who don't spend money until they look like they're going down in January and then they'll suddenly find £30 million to spend.
00:31:55
Viktor
Yeah.
00:31:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
So they may be waiting for for some of that, but...
00:31:58
Viktor
yeah
00:32:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think we also just need to see need to see them play against a worse team than Man City to know what to really expect from them this season.
00:32:04
Viktor
Yeah.
00:32:08
Viktor
Right.
00:32:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
But again, i I have concerns about their attack and defence.
00:32:17
Viktor
Yeah, I mean, they also lost their good players and you if you look at Huang, I mean, I used to like this guy and I don't know what happened to, he can't even get like 10 minutes in in ah in this team. And he was a starter when they had all the good players and now he can't even, and they sign Arias, Arias, Arias, whatever it's pronounced.
00:32:35
Viktor
And he still didn't start either. So I don't know what's going on with Wolves, but yeah, as as you mentioned, once they start playing like the bottom teams, we're going to see where that, and funnily enough, they play Everton in the, in the third game with three. So that's going to,
00:32:51
Viktor
Kinda if you don't win that game, that's gonna tell you, okay, I have a day to literally sign some players, one or two players to add to the to the team.
00:32:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:33:01
Viktor
Because that game is on August 30th. So you literally have a day or two to make some moves.
00:33:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
i they're just such ah such a difficult team to know no about predict.
00:33:13
Viktor
Yeah.
00:33:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think the manager as well, is as well as he did towards the back end of last year, I think not having that threat from the three teams who went down last year helped massively.
00:33:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
I wonder if Pereira will survive this year as well. Yeah.
00:33:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
interesting season ahead that feels like they have a very similar season every year, the Wolves. Moving on to Brentford, are they the team that you see as ah the biggest threat?
00:33:43
Viktor
Which one? Which one did you say?
00:33:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Brentford.
00:33:46
Viktor
Oh, Brentford. Yeah, I think Brentford's going to get relegated.
00:33:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think with Brentford,
00:33:50
Viktor
That's why I feel like they lost those dangerous players. Norgard and Damsgaard was like injured or something, whatever, and now you don't have the two main players as well.
00:33:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeahy He had a kid at the weekend, I think.
00:34:01
Viktor
v Yeah, Visa's going to be gone. you lost yeah lost some Waymo. It's going to be tough.
00:34:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
My thing with Brentford is that I think I wonder if they'll trust their competence too much or if they will actually go spend this money and show their competence, if that makes sense.
00:34:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because when I was looking at ah their squad when I was making notes for this this episode, I I was actually looking at their midfield as more of an issue than their attack. Their midfielders are Janel, Henderson, Jarmuljuk, Jensen and Onjeka. Janel Jensen were in the team that got promoted to the Premier League. like and Henderson, i don't think you're going to get much out of.
00:34:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Jarmuljuk is 21 and has some potential. And Onjeka was on loan last year, I believe. But It could be a little bit of the Brentford factor where the names aren't flashy, but the names don't...
00:35:03
Viktor
You also have to put in account that you lost your coach as well. It's not just, yeah, so that's another big thing.
00:35:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:35:10
Viktor
I just can't see Brent for surviving.
00:35:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Their names in midfield don't...
00:35:13
Viktor
Even with all the experience that they've got over the years, I just don't see Brent we staying up, especially after I watched Leeds United and Sunderland.
00:35:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
At the moment, I have them like slightly ahead of a relegation battle. I think they'll manage to stay five-ish points ahead of that sort of scrap down below them.
00:35:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because their wingers at the moment are Watara, Sharda, Lewis Potter, and Fabio Carvalho, and dams guard if you're really desperate. I think at the moment I look at their squad and think you need something in midfield and you need an alternative to Igor Thiago at striker and maybe a backup for Rico Henry in case he's not the player he was before he did his ACL.
00:36:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
So for me, I think they'll be just above at the moment, but I can completely see the concerns and I'm not convinced Keith Andrews survives at the moment.
00:36:01
Viktor
yeah
00:36:12
Viktor
who are the Who are the three that you think is going to get relegated?
00:36:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think Burnley, bottom. I think Sunderland, just above that. And then...
00:36:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
going to stick with Leeds at the moment because it's just one game. It may change by the end of the window, but son but my issue with Sunderland is I think there'll be a bit of the Ipswich and Luton where they're the darling because people want them to stay out because it's it a big name and maybe their windows being slightly overrated at the moment is my current opinion.
00:36:43
Viktor
Yeah.
00:36:49
Viktor
ah For me, I think Sunderland is going to finish bottom. And then Brentford is going to be number two. And then the third one. Now that you you you sold me on West Ham, I changed my mind on West Ham now that I look at the the midfield and who they lost and how they're not picking up anyone else.
00:37:14
Viktor
Would it be too much if Leeds two of the three newly promoted teams survive? That would be crazy. I can see it happening.
00:37:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's just so difficult to predict that, isn't it, after the past two seasons we've seen.
00:37:25
Viktor
Yeah. Right, that's the thing that's kind of getting in your head. Like the last few seasons, the newly promoted teams, they just got relegated so easily.
00:37:37
Viktor
But I don't know. This year, I think it's going to be different this year.
00:37:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think if it's going to be two, I think it's probably West Ham and Wolves. ah yeah Like I say, I just i think Brentford will manage to just stay out of it.
00:37:52
Viktor
All Wolves 2. Damn. That's going to be tough.
00:37:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:37:57
Viktor
I'm glad this is tough.
00:37:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. You could see one of their midfielders getting poached in January as well. Someone like Xao Gomez. if ah If a team in the middle like middle to push in Europe sort of thing...
00:38:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
have have a big injury maybe in midfield. You're looking at sort of Spurs, maybe even United in January. like Maybe he he isn't quite that level, but that sort of area of the league, and you wouldn't be surprised if someone comes and puts thirty five forty million on the table if they have have big injuries in midfield.
00:38:32
Viktor
yeah
00:38:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then you start to really wonder, because for me, that that's their strong point, the midfield. Yeah.
00:38:40
Viktor
Yeah, the good thing with Brentford is if they don't spend this transfer window, they'll have the money for in January.
00:38:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
We'll see by the end the window, I think.
00:38:48
Viktor
So if they are like really behind, they'll they'll make some moves to stay up.
00:38:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:38:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:38:53
Viktor
That's something that other teams don't have. so
00:38:58
Viktor
Yeah.

Premier League Title Predictions

00:39:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's going to be interesting to see. it feels it does feel like we're going to have a more competitive scrap down there than especially last year.
00:39:06
Viktor
Yeah.
00:39:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Last year there there was never ah never a fight at all, but it definitely feels like we'll get something this year.
00:39:16
Viktor
Yeah.
00:39:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anything else to add for this episode from you?
00:39:20
Viktor
No, we can just finish it up with who do you think is going to be a champion and then finishing the who are the top four for you. I mean, I know you're going to go for Arsenal.
00:39:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think live nothing I actually think Liverpool win the league.
00:39:30
Viktor
I'll agree with you. Really?
00:39:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
I have a bad feeling, although Eze might change it slightly, but at the moment I just think the left wing is just way too big of an issue for Arsenal. As much as I've seen people say a so like the consistency in this Arsenal team, it will have to come eventually, but ah just especially if Liverpool add Isak...
00:39:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
like It's so difficult to look past them, in my opinion. then have us, just because partly like the joke of having Arsenal second again, but also i I see issues in that City team that I don't necessarily think will be fixed this window.
00:40:05
Viktor
Yeah.
00:40:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then at the moment I have Chelsea, just because it feels too early to to say unit United or Spurs. and i so Even then, I don't necessarily think they'll be able to make that big of a jump from last season. and So at the moment, it's Liverpool first, Arsenal second, City third, and then a little bit of a gap to Chelsea in third in fourth place.
00:40:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
What about you?
00:40:37
Viktor
I have Arsenal first, Liverpool second, City third, and United fourth.
00:40:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's so difficult from an Arsenal perspective.
00:40:44
Viktor
I...
00:40:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
to ah see so many people putting us first, and maybe it's just because... I saw our preseason, which was a little bit iffy until the last game. you see You look and see all the ah or the bad parts of your own team, I feel like. so you You're not necessarily focusing on the positives in the likes of Saka, Zubemendy, Rice, the defence team.
00:41:10
Viktor
I feel like the difference this year for Arsenal is going to be they're going to be able to get three points out of games like they just did with the with United. They used to drop a lot of points in games like that.
00:41:21
Viktor
And now they get three points in a game they did not deserve to get three points. I think that's going to be the difference for Arsenal this year. That's my view on that.
00:41:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think having Eze as well against the likes of Fulham, where teams are sat deep and will not move for you, they're happy to take a 0-0.
00:41:35
Viktor
Yeah.
00:41:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
He'll do something and open it up. so
00:41:38
Viktor
Yeah.
00:41:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah definitely got a little bit more hope of the league after after the news tonight, but we'll we'll see what Liverpool do before the end of the window still.
00:41:54
Viktor
ye
00:41:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think that's going to wrap it up. Thank you for joining me, Victor.
00:41:57
Viktor
Thank you, brother. Good talking to you always.
00:41:59
