Hey everyone, it is GSPN and it is Friday 15th of August 2025. Hey, the Premier League's back, isn't it? And the drama starts tonight and I for one cannot wait.
00:00:22
Speaker
My name is Kate and I'm going to be your GSPN host every Friday. Apart from next week, so I'm going to be on a beach somewhere. But apart from that, one of the team will stand in and do a sterling job, I am sure.

Football Transfer Market Overview

00:00:35
Speaker
We're going to be getting into transfers while the window's still open, of course, and we're going to be looking ahead to all the games this weekend. I'll be taking a total liberty, if I may, and chatting about my club's performance.
00:00:48
Speaker
Keep listening to find out which team I support. And I'm also going to be giving you my predictions for the weekend. No prizes, just for fun. Right, before we even think about games, let's talk transfers.
00:01:01
Speaker
Transfers.
00:01:03
Speaker
So Jack Grealish, yes to Everton. It's happening. It's a season long loan from Man City. Everton are going to cover most of his wage, which is about 12 million quid for the year.
00:01:16
Speaker
There's even talk of a 50 million pound option at the end. Although let's be honest, right, that might be a bit optimistic given his age and his contract. Now, a lot of people are calling this a gamble and it is, right? David Moyes clearly thinks it's worth it.
00:01:32
Speaker
I mean, Grealish was really electric at Villa, wasn't he? But at City, started off okay, kind of waned recently, has hasn't he? And he's had a bit of injury too. He struggled for form and for minutes under Pep, let's face it.
00:01:46
Speaker
So a change of scenery, well, might just be what he needs. To be honest with you, I'm going to give it away now. As a Leeds United fan, I am a bit concerned about our season opener on Monday.
00:01:57
Speaker
Get into that a little bit later. Now, Liverpool fans, you have got a big one too, if I may say so. Florian Wurtz is in the building. Oh, yes. 22 years old, German wonder kid, straight from Bayer Leverkusen. £100 million quid guaranteed, £116 million with add-ons. But hey, what's £60 million between friends?
00:02:20
Speaker
He's beaten Bayern and City to the move and Ancelot has promised to build his attack around him, which I can't wait for. That should be really exciting to watch. Now, over there at Old Trafford, Brian Buemo has joined the club from Brentford for about 71 million quid.
00:02:38
Speaker
Ruben Amarin wants high energy, high pressing, direct football, doesn't he? And Umbermo fits the bill perfectly for that. And finally, he's gone, hasn't he? Son has gone.
00:02:49
Speaker
If you're stateside, you're the beneficiary, though. Ten years at Spurs, injury after injury. He wanted to go out on a high and he did, didn't he? Because Spurs won their first trophy in, what is it, 26 years? Something like that.
00:03:03
Speaker
um Anyway, he's headed over to the MLS. Who can blame him? ah LA Galaxy are the lucky recipients. They've paid around $26 million, dollars around about £15 million. pounds So good luck to him. That's what I say.
00:03:15
Speaker
Spurs fans will be gutted, I do i do feel. But I also have to say that given their performance against PSG on Wednesday day night, I think there's not a lot to cry about. They look pretty sharp.

The Wire: Latest Club Updates

00:03:27
Speaker
And Thomas Frank as well was pleased, wasn't he? Now it's time for a brand new segment from The Wire. So each week, I'm going to scan the official club accounts and the most trusted football journalists to bring you the freshest updates from around the league. Just got three posts for you this week.
00:03:45
Speaker
Arsenal's official ex-account posted earlier this week that Bakayo Saka has signed a four-year deal, brand new one, ending all the speculation about his future, which is a good thing, isn't it? Because we hope that he's going to be a key part of the FA the fa cup the FA Cup as well, but hopefully the World Cup further down the line, although not too far away.
00:04:06
Speaker
And it'd be good that he's playing with some of his, hopefully, international teammates like um ah Declan Rice and people like that. So it's good to have homegrown talent staying in the UK.
00:04:17
Speaker
And over on Fabrizio Romano's feed, um here we go. He's reported that Man United are closing in on 19-year-old Brazilian winger Pedro Henrique from Internacional for a fee of around £18 million.
00:04:32
Speaker
Meanwhile, Liverpool's account, of course, confirmed the arrival of Florian Verts with the caption, Welcome to Anfield. Bit of a double-edged sword, that one, isn't it? With the tragic, untimely death of Diogo Jota.
00:04:45
Speaker
um So, you know, the irreracive but irreplaceable, I should say, Diogo Jota. um And hopefully, Froy and Verts can thrive in his own unique way.
00:04:57
Speaker
Right, it is time for Kate's fixture forecast.

Premier League Predictions

00:05:01
Speaker
Do you like that? A little bit of alliteration, not too much. I've looked to all the matches from Friday night through to Monday, and here's how I see them playing out.
00:05:10
Speaker
Reiterating, no prizes just for fun. These are only my predictions. If you want to take a punt on them, feel free, but there certainly isn't any betting advice. In fact, you'd be quite foolish ah to take these with anything but a grain of salt.
00:05:24
Speaker
So let's go tonight then, the big season opener, Liverpool and Bournemouth under the Anfield lights. What more could you want? Virts is likely to start, of course, linking up with Salah and Nunez.
00:05:36
Speaker
Now, Bournemouth under Andoni Irreola will be organised like they were last year. They had a great season, and but without enough firepower, I think. I'm going to give Liverpool the win here by two goals to one. And I'm also predicted that Virts is going to score on his debut, which will be fantastic.
00:05:55
Speaker
Now, tomorrow, Saturday, Aston Villa and Newcastle are playing at Villa Park. We all know it's a fortress, right? 15 home games unbeaten last season. and Douglas Luiz and Bubikar Kamara controlling the midfield there.
00:06:08
Speaker
Now, Newcastle's new striker, Alexander Sauloth, is a handful. um But they are without, of course, Alexander Isak. And I think Villa are going to edge it. I think there might be a bit of sort of bad feeling at Newcastle at the moment with all that ESAC stuff going on.
00:06:23
Speaker
ah So I'm going to give Villa the edge, winning two one tomorrow. Also tomorrow, we've got Brighton and Fulham. Now, both sides love possession. ah Brighton adjusting after losing Matoma to injury.
00:06:35
Speaker
Fulham has Joe Pelina. ah He's key in breaking down attacks, but I don't know. I think there's not much between these two sides, especially at the start of the season. and I'm going to hedge my bets. It's going to be a one-all draw, in my opinion.
00:06:48
Speaker
Also tomorrow, new boys. New boys to the Prem, Sunderland v West Ham. Sunderland returned to the top flight, but without Jack Clark, haven't they? I do feel ah do believe they've made a few signings, but I don't know.
00:07:02
Speaker
Strong enough to counter people like Gerard Bowen and James Ward-Prowse and their set pieces. I don't know. Prediction, I think Hammers are going to edge this, to be honest. I'm going to go 2-1. 2-1 Hammers ah tomorrow.
00:07:15
Speaker
On Saturday, Spurs and Burnley. Well, Thomas Frank has Spurs looking sharp, don't they? Fantastic performance against PSG on Wednesday night. Only lost on penalties.
00:07:26
Speaker
um but put in a great performance against arguably one of the best teams, if not the best team in the world. They have had a long season, though. Going to caveat that, you know, PSG, they've been playing football for about 11 months without a break.
00:07:40
Speaker
So maybe a bit of fatigue there. I don't know. Am I doing Spurs a dis for a disservice? um But anyway, you've got Brennan Johnson maybe linking up with Richarlison. Burnley, I think I'm going to get overrun. I'm going to go,
00:07:53
Speaker
Two, three, two, no, I i mean two or three. I'm going to go 3-0 Spurs. I don't like Burnley. They're one of my rivals. ah Right, Saturday also tomorrow night, Wolves v Man City. Now Haaland against a defence that has lost Max Killman.
00:08:09
Speaker
And of course, Matthias Kunal's gone, hasn't he, as well? I think City's quality is going to overrun these guys. Unfortunately, hate to say it. I'm going to go to niil City.
00:08:21
Speaker
That is taking place, so by the way, Wolves. I've forgotten the name the stadium. I can't remember. It's gone. It's gone from my head. Anyway, um and moving on to Sunday then, we've got Chelsea v Crystal Palace.
00:08:35
Speaker
Kulpana, creative, of course. is he goingnna be Is he going to have the sort of season that he had last season though? Right? We need him to be a little bit more on point than he was last year. And Nicholas Jackson, of course, mobile up front.
00:08:47
Speaker
Eze is Palace's spark, isn't he? But Chelsea, I think, edge it. Prediction 2-1, especially after the Club World Cup success they had. And on Monday, the piece to resistance, I saved the best till last.
00:09:00
Speaker
We have got Ellen Road bouncing as Leeds take on Everton. Manus Solomon is a threat, um but like I said, Grealish debut for Everton.
00:09:11
Speaker
Now, we have got Dominic Calvert-Lewin for Leeds. who does technically on paper provide aerial danger, but I'm not convinced. I'll get into that a little bit later on.
00:09:21
Speaker
I'm going to go for a draw here. Leeds have a good pre-season really do think that, I don't know, I'm going to hedge my bets one or I can't possibly predict a Leeds loss, can I?
00:09:34
Speaker
Right then, let's go here.
00:09:39
Speaker
So every week we're going to take two standout games and dive a little deeper. Tactics, form and key players to watch.

Tactical Analysis and Key Matches

00:09:46
Speaker
First up, Liverpool v Bournemouth season opener.
00:09:50
Speaker
The champions start their defence of the title at Anfield and the atmosphere is going to be buzzing, isn't it, for Florian Wurz's debut. Expect Liverpool to dominate possession with Wurz linking between midfield and attack and Salah stretching Bournemouth's defence wide.
00:10:06
Speaker
Now, Bournemouth... They're going to likely sit deep, I suspect, and try to break through Marcus Tivernier and Antoine Semenyo. Watch out for the key battle between Van Dijk and Enes Unal.
00:10:17
Speaker
My prediction, Liverpool win comfortably, but Bournemouth could sneak a goal. I'm going to go through one And my second focus game is Man United and Arsenal. Now, this is a fixture that rarely disappoints.
00:10:31
Speaker
United under Amorin, pressing high. You've got Fernandes and Mbomo linking midfield and attack. Arsenal, however, with Mikel Arteta, they're going to look to control the ball through Martin Odegaard to get Bakayo Saka isolated against his full-back.
00:10:49
Speaker
Watch for Declan Rice tracking Fernandes and cutting supply lines. My prediction, do you know what? I'm going to go for a 2-2 score draw. Both sides are far too much attacking quality ah not to score, especially with Mbomo, who is, well, you can always rely on him to score.
00:11:06
Speaker
Do I put him down as a scorer? Yeah. Okay, 2-2 Mbomo to score.
00:11:12
Speaker
Now, time now for our Leeds United Spotlight. Now, every time Leeds play, I'm going to shine the torch on their key storylines. Just indulge me, right? This week, it's all about Manus Solomon and a brand new arrival already making the waves.
00:11:27
Speaker
Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Now, Solomon, on loan from Spurs, was a talisman last season, wasn't he? 10 goals, 12 assists in the championship. He's direct. He loves to run at defenders and thrives with the likes of the Elland Road. Massive behind him. It is going to be, like I said, bouncing on Monday night.
00:11:47
Speaker
And then...
00:11:50
Speaker
There's Calvert-Lewin arriving on a free transfer. Do you know what? I don't know what to make of this. Yes, he's a big name, but he's got loads of baggage, hasn't he? His injury record is woeful, to say the least.
00:12:03
Speaker
Simon Jordan ripped into him in the Express this week, saying ah the Leeds were replacing one crock with another crock. In other words, replacing Patrick Bamford, who quite frankly, I don't even know why he's in the club anymore, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin. I mean, I'm not holding out much hope for this one.
00:12:23
Speaker
I'll be totally honest. I think Leeds could have done better in the transfer window. We've got a few good signings, but my goodness, we do need a brand new on-form dynamic striker. But here's the kicker, you know, he could start against his old club, Everton, on Monday night.
00:12:39
Speaker
You know, if he scores a winner, well, the headlines are going to write themselves, aren't they? um Against Everton, watch for Solomon up against Nathan Patterson or Seamus Coleman. And Calvert-Lewin, obviously, trying to prove he still got it against a side that let him walk.
00:12:57
Speaker
And that's wrap for this week's episode. Transfers, the freshest news from the wires, my fixed forecast, two match deep dives and our Leeds spotlight. All wrapped up for you before the weekend kicks off.
00:13:10
Speaker
So enjoy the games. And I'm going to see you here in two weeks for another round of predictions, analysis and probably a little bit of gloating if I got them right. Have a great week.
00:13:21
Speaker
See you.
