Introduction and Listener Engagement

00:00:01
Nick Britten
Thank
00:00:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Welcome everybody to the Daily Premier League podcast. It's Wednesday the 3rd of September. My name's Ken Davis. His name is Nick Britton. And a very warm welcome to you, Nick.
00:00:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
And a very warm welcome to listeners who make the Daily Premier League podcast part of their daily routine. How's going, Nick? You've had a busy day. so It's late in the evening, but we've got a lot to talk about.
00:00:35
Nick Britten
I've just, as I've been in London all day working, and then a couple of hours journey home and straight onto this podcast. I see we're both wearing white t-shirts tonight. It's the night of white.
00:00:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely. You've got a Derby County one on. ah So, ah right. We have had, we mentioned, we always mention in the podcast that you can reach us ah at dailypremierleaguepodcast at gmail.com and send us your letters in. And you know what? People actually do.
00:01:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we get quite

Aston Villa's Poor Start and Tactical Issues

00:01:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
a few, actually. And what I thought it might be useful to do, as we are kind of just in the Getting over the transfer window, we're going to talk about transfer window a bit later. But a couple of couple of really interesting emails came in, which I thought might be a good way to kick off the show.
00:01:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Two questions. First one we'll deal with, then we'll get the second one. First one is ah from James in Telford, who's a Villa fan. He said, why have Villa got off to such a poor start? Thoughts, Nick?
00:01:42
Nick Britten
Well, if you look at where they were at the back end of last season, their striking options included Asensio, who had a good loan spell very good loan spell for him, and Rashford, also had a good loan spell for him.
00:01:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
You good?
00:01:55
Nick Britten
They both left and weren't replaced. So one of the reasons are that they've got off to a sticky start is because they've lost the majority of their firepower up front. They've also lost one of their most creative players in Jacob Ramsey, who's gone to Newcastle.
00:02:09
Nick Britten
And there has been a shadow hanging over the goalkeeper, Emilio Martinez, who, of course, didn't feature in the squad for the defeat against Crystal Palace last time out because it was expected that he was going to move to Manchester United.
00:02:22
Nick Britten
Now, that deal never happened, so he's going to have to be... He's not gone anywhere else, he's going to have to be reintegrated to the Manchester United squad. So they've lost some key players. And up until...
00:02:34
Nick Britten
the very last moment in the transfer window, hadn't really made many moves to replace them. That's one reason. Another reason, tactically, is that Unai Emery has been playing, I think, players out of position.
00:02:48
Nick Britten
So John McGinn's been playing out wide. Now he can do a job there, but he's not he's much, much more effective ah through the middle. Players like Luka Dina, who last year and the year before were willing to get forward, haven't really been getting forward.
00:02:59
Nick Britten
So there hasn't been much of an attacking threat. That's the second reason. And the last reason is Villa have become quite an easy team to play against, I think.
00:03:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:03:09
Nick Britten
they If you play football up against them and go at them, they've got the capability to damage you at the back. But I think what teams have found out, and Brentford did it very successfully ah the other day, is that if you stifle them, they don't really know what to do. They don't have the creativity to get out of it.
00:03:27
Nick Britten
So I think if you and then if you bundle all of those things together, That's probably why they struggled in the very early part of the season. But look, we're only three games in. They have, I think, done

Villa's Past Success and Future Predictions

00:03:39
Nick Britten
pretty well in the transfer market by bringing in some players right at the end. Certainly Jadon Sancho. If Unai Emery get a tune out of him, will be a good addition.
00:03:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:03:50
Nick Britten
Harvey Elliott, I think, is is a very, very good loan signing.
00:03:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:03:54
Nick Britten
And you don't one or two them in earlier. So I wouldn't panic if I was was with a Villa fan. Unai Emery is a very, very good coach. He normally gets them out of the blips that they dont tend to suffer at any start of the season.
00:04:04
Nick Britten
But I think there's a good indication of of just why they've had such a slow start.
00:04:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think you've encapsulated all the key points there. There's a couple of other things just to mention, I think. I've always had a slight feeling that Villa were overachieving anyway, ah in the sense, I think, when I...
00:04:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
night Emily took over, yeah I mean, they were really struggling. They were really down down in the depths of the Premier League. He's definitely done an an amazing job, and that's why he's held in such high regard, I think, at Villa.
00:04:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I do think that he's is ah maybe they've slightly overachieved in the course last couple of seasons. I think it's going to be, I think what we're going to see is a revert back to actually where they probably are, which is like, ah I think, an or 12th
00:04:51
Nick Britten
Thank you.
00:04:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
position team. I've seen them a couple of times obviously this obviously this this season. They really lack penetration. They lack any kind of creative creativity. They seem to lack a bit of urgency.
00:05:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
I actually, know, I think that the the way the players portray themselves, if you like, there their physical presence, they just look a slightly dispirited outfit.
00:05:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now, I don't know whether that's something to do with what's been going on in the transfer window and things like that, but they just look like a team that just feeling a bit sorry

Upcoming Challenges for Aston Villa

00:05:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
for themselves. and And just looking at the next three games, which, you know, will take us six games in, they've got Everton away, you know, tricky game.
00:05:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Sunderland away, And then we know Sunderland away is not an easy fixture.
00:05:44
Nick Britten
you
00:05:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
But maybe, just maybe, ah they're going to get a little bit more freedom to express themselves because they're the away team. So it might help them. But, you know, I wouldn't be at all surprised out of those three games they don't walk away with more than four points.
00:06:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah They haven't scored a goal this season. We need to say that. They haven't scored a goal. They haven't really... They've had a lot of shots on goals, but their XG is really low as well. So the shots have been a bit speculative rather than real guilt-edged chances.
00:06:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
They're not creating enough chances. They haven't scored. They've got three tough games to come. I think they could be looking at five points after six games. it's And things have started to look a bit a bit worrying at Villa.
00:06:32
Nick Britten
And don't forget they've got a European, a Europa League rather campaign too to play in as well.
00:06:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
00:06:36
Nick Britten
But look, um I don't think it's all doom and gloom. They've got to get Morgan Rodgers playing a little better.
00:06:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:06:43
Nick Britten
Suggestion that, you know, he's been feeling a bit, well, to use your phrase, sorry for himself since his best mate Jacob Ramsey went.
00:06:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:06:49
Nick Britten
And it just, you're right, it just feels like it needs an injection of energy. And hopefully vi on Villa's point of view, Elliot and Sancho will particularly will bring that.
00:06:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Okay.

Predictions for London Teams in Premier League

00:07:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Interesting. Second question that was in the postbag was from Simon in London he said... Which of the London teams were finished highest?
00:07:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now, I'm going to slightly extend that question because there are seven London teams in the Premier League. I'd like Nick's order of where they're going to finish at the end of the season.
00:07:22
Nick Britten
Thank you.
00:07:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'll give you mine after that. I hope it's not the same, but it it probably will be fairly close. So, all the seven teams. So, just to remind everyone, we're talking about Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Palace,
00:07:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Brentford, West Ham and Fulham. So, Nick, what's your finishing order of the London, the little London Premier League?
00:07:41
Nick Britten
I think it would be absolutely astonishing if we didn't get broadly the same, because unless I start by going, i think West Ham are going to finish the top of the London side. think it's reasonably, reasonably straight.
00:07:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
They look good. They look good last last weekend, though.
00:07:54
Nick Britten
Yeah. OK, then. and Right. Well, I think Arsenal are going to finish top of the pile, ah because I think they they are the best London side. I think Chelsea will finish next.
00:08:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:08:04
Nick Britten
I've yet to get going, but... well I'm not convinced about their transfer activity. It's all a bit weird. But, yeah, they'll I think they'll they'll finish next. I'm going to go for the next best London team being in Crystal Palace, then Tottenham, then Fulham.
00:08:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
ye yeah yeah yeah
00:08:23
Nick Britten
And then it's a bit of a toss-up between Brentford and West Ham, to be honest. I mean, you could argue either way. I'll go for Brentford, then West Ham.
00:08:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, that's not that far away from me. I had Arsenal, Chelsea 1-2, which you did. I had Palace and Spurs the other around. I think Spurs actually have got a chance of having a decent season this year.
00:08:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Palace just continue to amaze. They've just got to keep hold of the boss. They've just got to keep hold of the manager. yeah I think that's
00:08:55
Nick Britten
Well, there was a lot of talk. Yeah, there was a lot of talk, wasn't there? that that There was lots of rumours circling around that if Gahy signed for Liverpool, he was out there.
00:09:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, there was.
00:09:03
Nick Britten
It was essentially me or him kind of thing. Now, Gahy has stayed at Palace. and pal the The German, er Steve Parrish, backed the manager, Oliver Glasner.
00:09:13
Nick Britten
So he should stay hate because he kind of did that deal, didn't he?
00:09:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
my my My impression that Liverpool are going to go straight back in in January for Gehi.
00:09:24
Nick Britten
Maybe. Yeah, maybe. Maybe. And then we'll we'll address it then.
00:09:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Gehi's going to end up. Gehi's... take could
00:09:29
Nick Britten
But I don't think Garton will go in January. think he was going to go now he had gone to Liverpool.
00:09:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah. So
00:09:37
Nick Britten
So yeah there's there's good there's justification for saying Spurs will finish above Palace. They've got a lot of ground to make up, I think. I mean not um just think Spurs are... They got had a good couple of first games, but they were terrible against Bournemouth.
00:09:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
so they would,
00:09:49
Nick Britten
They really were poor. So obviously not all the problems have been solved there yet. And I think there's still a good deal of of betting in before he gets it right. but yeah, listen, that's fine.
00:10:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, i think I think Spurs are very, very inconsistent. You often find that with teams who are actually improving. They're very inconsistent. But i think Spurs are improving. I had Fulham fifth, same as you.
00:10:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
I had West Ham finishing above Brentford. i think both of those are... i mean
00:10:16
Nick Britten
Yeah. like Again, you could you can't split them with a fag pack.
00:10:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
on
00:10:18
Nick Britten
I meant a fag pack, but it's it's yeah six or one half dozen, who knows?
00:10:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Indeed. So as we know, in football, it pays to get your team selection right here at Global Sports Podcast Network.

but Right, right, right, right, right. Second part of show. Things moving quickly. We're going to move back to just dwell on another aspect of the transfer window.

Transfer Window Analysis for Select Teams

00:11:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
But we're going to focus on an interesting aspect of this, which I think is to focus on the promoted team. So we're talking about Sunderland, Leeds United and Burnley.
00:11:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Both all spent significantly in the transfer window. The question I've got for you, Nick, is which of the promoted teams had the best transfer window and which of them had the worst transfer window? And therefore, we'll work out who's in the middle.
00:11:43
Nick Britten
Well, on paper, you've got to say Sundland have had the best one because they've got off to the best start out of the three. They've spent the most. They've spent £161.7 million they've bought 15 players. million pounds and theyre bought in fifteen players Now, compared to Leeds, who are the next biggest spenders, they spent £110 million pounds on 12 players, and Burnley spent around £100 million pounds and book bought in 14 players.
00:12:06
Nick Britten
So they've all bolstered their scores massively. It's difficult to know. I mean, interesting about Sunderland, with all the money and players they've bought in, the two players who really caught the eye this season so far are the two players were there last year, and that's Isidore up front and Dan Ballard in centre defence.
00:12:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
ye
00:12:24
Nick Britten
who obviously got a bit of injury other day, but they're the two players that stood out the first couple of games. i It's a difficult one to say because there's a danger in bringing 15 players, and which is what Ipswich found last year. They brought in loads players. They spent £120, £130 million pounds at the off and just couldn't really gel and ended up getting relegated again.
00:12:43
Nick Britten
But the difference there is that Ipswich brought in a load of players from the Championship.
00:12:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:12:48
Nick Britten
So they were Championship-ready players. These guys, some of them have gone abroad. They've spent... They haven't spent ludicrous money on one player. $30 million is the most they've spent on Diara in midfield.
00:12:59
Nick Britten
They have bought across the teams. They've bought defenders, midfielders, wingers, strikers. So have they have strengthened right across the board. And they've averaged, looking at it now, they've averaged around £20 million pound per player.
00:13:12
Nick Britten
It's always a difficult, it's always a gamble, isn't it? Do you bring in loads players who are okay, or you spend all your money on one who's going to be amazing? you just It's so difficult to know what to do.
00:13:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
i think
00:13:21
Nick Britten
But um like but i like some of them because I think they've gelled quicker. I think they've got a really good coach. And I think out of the three teams, we've said this before, out of the three teams, I think they've got the biggest chance of staying up because think they play good football.
00:13:33
Nick Britten
And they've already learnt in the first three games where the back of the net is, and that's absolutely critical. Now, Leeds, well, let me go on to Burnley, actually. Let me go to Burnley because they're probably the, well, they are the bookies' favourites to go straight back down.
00:13:47
Nick Britten
Karl Walker, they haven't spent, well, they spent five million on Karl Walker. £12 million on Chelsea. But then they've also they also spent £43 million pounds on two Chelsea players. And I always worry when you buy Chelsea players because they cost a lot and they're verably not very good.
00:14:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
its
00:14:04
Nick Britten
And, you know, Brogier for £20 million pound doesn't feel like a lot like a good buy to me.
00:14:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:14:09
Nick Britten
and i Ugo Chukwu at £23 million is probably a better buy than Brogier. But again, it's a bit of a gamble. But actually, i might I am going to, and I'm still going argue,
00:14:21
Nick Britten
that they potentially have had a better transfer window than Leeds. Because Leeds have bought in 12 players for £110 million. pounds And they've and they bought in, over the over the course of the window, they bought in a lot of players. So 12 players, as say.
00:14:35
Nick Britten
But only three of those, apologies, only three of those are attacking players. And they haven't got any strikers. so So two players they've bought in out the 12, they've got in on a three. And that is, of course, Dominic, Alvin, Lewin,
00:14:48
Nick Britten
ah And Nwecha. So, to me, their problem their problem is always going to be scoring goals. And I don't think they've addressed that problem.
00:15:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's an interesting...
00:15:02
Nick Britten
Okay? Cavalier is a good signing on the face of it, but he's not a good signing in terms of are you going to rely on him to score you the goals to keep you up? Because A, I don't think he's got it in his locker. And B, his injury record is horrendous. So are you going to get 38 games out of him anyway?
00:15:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's good good analysis there. I wouldn't disagree with you much of that. I really like the way Sunderland are going about their business. Kirill Louis-Dreyfus, he's obviously the chairman, a very, very young guy, but really, really pretty inspirational fella.
00:15:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
They brought in a new director of football as well. It seems to have given them a real, I think, clarity of purpose in terms of what they're trying to do. The other thing I really like about Sunderland is the fact that when you look at the players they've brought in, they've brought experience, Granite Jacket. I think we're going to come to this later, but i think that's a great signing.
00:15:54
Nick Britten
I agree.
00:15:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
12 million? I mean, that's... That's good business. So, Grant and Jack, I think it's going to be a great acquisition. So, you've got your building experience, but he's also brought in a lot of youth, a lot of pace, lot of energy.
00:16:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah so I just love the balance of what they've done. So, I think Sunderland have had a a really good window. And I know, talking to Sunderland fans, they're very bullish about it, and rightly so. They've broken all kinds of records in terms of expenditure, and I think they've done they've gone about their business in exactly the right way.

Sunderland's Strategy and Key Signings

00:16:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Burnley's slightly different. ah Yeah, I've got a question about Kyle Walker yeah as well. But they brought in Dubravka, haven't they? The goalkeeper. was in Newcastle, wasn't he I think, for one.
00:16:38
Nick Britten
He was, yes, he was, yeah.
00:16:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, no, a decent keeper. ah
00:16:41
Nick Britten
He's a good keeper. He'll do a good job for them, by the way. That is good signing, yeah. That is good signing.
00:16:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, Fiorento Luiz, who they brought in midfield. highly highly rated in in in Portugal. So think they've done I think they've done okay.
00:16:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I'm with you on Leeds. um I've never been convinced about Calvert-Lewin. I mean, just you know he scores goals and in bursts. But you know he played in a poor Everton team. I think he's going to be playing in a poor Leeds team. I just don't think he's going to get the service.
00:17:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think ultimately, I think i think of the three, I would put it, in Sunderland, Burnley and Leeds. And that sounds like you agree with that.
00:17:23
Nick Britten
Very much so.

Best and Worst Transfer Signings Speculation

00:18:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
show. Just again, just as we we wrap up things really transfer window-wise, we're going to be moving on to other things over the course the next few days. I thought it might be entertaining to get two things out of your nick, and I'll supply the same.
00:18:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Who do you think will be ultimately, when the dust has settled, when we look back on this at the end of the season, who do you think will be considered the bargain of the century in this transfer window?
00:18:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
And who will be considered the did you keep the receipt of this transfer window?
00:18:47
Nick Britten
Well, I've got two two of each, two players who I think are really good acquisitions for their clubs. And they're both loans, actually. One is Harvey Elliott.
00:18:59
Nick Britten
to Aston Villa, I think is exactly the sort of team they need.
00:19:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:19:02
Nick Britten
I feel sorry for Javier, because I think he's such a good player. He starred for the under-21s for England in the summer. Can't get anywhere near the Liverpool team apart from the old sub-appearance here or there.
00:19:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
miss
00:19:13
Nick Britten
Now, I know that's the way Liverpool set up, e etc. That's fine. So, ah think he'll thrive. I think he'll thrive at Villa.
00:19:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:19:21
Nick Britten
um And I think to get him on a loan with an option to buy is a brilliant deal for Villa. And I think he's just the player they need. We talked about their Can't they all feel bit sorry for themselves and need a big G up? I think he's exactly the man to do it.
00:19:33
Nick Britten
Really, really good, tough, confident midfield, scores goals, gets I mean, it's just a very, very good player. And the other player who I think is is going to turn out to be an inspired siding is Jack Grealish at Everton.
00:19:45
Nick Britten
I think Grealish is a great acquisition for Everton and is already really ripping it up. um And he has lifted Everton already and has been the so best player, the man of the match for two out of the three games they've played.
00:19:58
Nick Britten
So I think he looks happy.
00:20:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
right.
00:20:01
Nick Britten
He looks like a little bit like the old Grealish that was Aston Villa before he went to Man City. Long may it continue because it's given Everton a real boost and helped them significantly have a much better start to the season than perhaps they were expecting. And then on the bench of good signings, I've got Granit Xhaka, who I think is an excellent signing for Sunderland. We've just talked about him.

Yeah, and he's on mine and Grealish is on mine as well. I never want to say this because I've never been Grealish's number one fan.
00:20:25
Nick Britten
but
00:20:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
But to be honest, Grealish was used in a very, very limited way.
00:20:31
Nick Britten
Bye.
00:20:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it's easy. He's got some freedom to express himself and I think he's doing and he is doing and he will continue to do the great job for Everton. Probably one for the fantasy football leagues. ah The two I've got, we've mentioned one granite jacket, I think £12 million for Jaco, some of that experience, so just someone with that, Naus, someone with you know a bit of a wand of you know of a right foot, I think.
00:20:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah It's going to be just extremely useful to Sunderland. He's got to pull a lot of strings and they are going to look back on that very fondly at the end of the season. The other guy just to pick out, I think who is going to have a big season is Rayan Cherky, who went to from Lyon to Man City, 32 million.
00:21:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
32 million is suddenly loose change in the Premier League. ah that started That was it right at the start of the of the of the window. ah Fantastic technical ability, 22 years of age.
00:21:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Obviously, it's early days. He hasn't had the greatest of starts, but he's just got such skills. I think he's going to be a massive player. So I think 32 Money for Turkey will turn out to be absolutely fantastic business. So they are mine.
00:21:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah So if they're the stars, if they're the ones that we're all going to be celebrating in in in it six months, at nine months time, who are the ones who going to look back on and think, why?
00:21:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just why?
00:21:56
Nick Britten
Well, I pulled out two transfer turkeys for you. The first one, and I've mentioned him already, and I just don't really get this particularly, and that is Armando Brogier. Now, move from Chelsea to Burnley. Burnley will be in desperate need of goals to stay up.
00:22:11
Nick Britten
So if you are in desperate need of goals, you don't necessarily spend £20 million on a player who in the last three seasons has scored three goals in 58 games.
00:22:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:22:21
Nick Britten
You just don't.
00:22:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:22:23
Nick Britten
I just don't get it. I don't understand really what value he's going to bring to a team like Burnley. He's had loan spells at Everton. He's had a loan spell at Fulham. Didn't pull up any trees in either of those.
00:22:36
Nick Britten
So what makes Burnley think he's suddenly going to get him 15 goals and and ah fire them to Premier League safety?
00:22:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:22:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Burnley isn't London, is it?
00:22:43
Nick Britten
Don't get it.
00:22:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's be honest. it
00:22:46
Nick Britten
Yeah, exactly. He'll get fed up there. It'll be raining. Even by this time of year, it'll be raining. It'll be cold. He'll just get fed up with it.
00:22:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Imagine him on a December the 11th, trotting out Turf Moor.
00:22:55
Nick Britten
Yeah.
00:22:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
He wouldn't fancy that, would he?
00:22:58
Nick Britten
yeah um and my second And my second one who I think, I just don't, again, don't really get it. And that's Alexander Ganaccio, £40 million. pounds Why Chelsea buying him? Why do they need him?
00:23:09
Nick Britten
Chelsea have got ridiculous amounts of players. Why do they need him? I know they're sold in Cuckoo to wherever he's gone. I can't think off top my head. He's gone abroad somewhere. And De Lapp is injured, and but De Lapp's not a winger.
00:23:24
Nick Britten
I don't really get what... Chelsea just buy loads and loads of players and then don't really know what to do with them. And Garnaccio is just trouble. You know, he was pretty poor at Man United. He's been doing stuff on social media which hasn't warmed him to anybody.
00:23:38
Nick Britten
it just strikes me as a player who thinks he's much better than he is. And I just don't see him featuring at Chelsea much.
00:23:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:23:45
Nick Britten
And there you go. I mean, he could take the place, I suppose, of Jackson, who finally went to Bayern. dont know
00:23:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
I can't see that.
00:23:52
Nick Britten
I don't know. I just don't think he's particularly good. And he was he wasn't he wasn't good in a rubbish Man United team. So how good is he going to be in ah in a much better Chelsea team
00:24:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Sometimes players thrive, you know, with better players around.
00:24:03
Nick Britten
team? No, no, no, they might do. They might be fine. He might be a superstar. I don't know. Prove me wrong. By all means, prove me wrong. I just think 40 million... I just didn't really understand the thinking behind the deal other than He's available, he wants to go to Chelsea, so let's spend £40 million on him.
00:24:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
okay Well, I'm going to say my two that I think, i wouldn't and I wouldn't say turkeys, but two I think I wouldn't be surprised if the hype doesn't get fulfilled.
00:24:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
One we've talked about, which is Jordan Sancho. He's just ever since, ever i mean,
00:24:39
Nick Britten
is Is that Jadon Sanchez's brother?
00:24:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Jordan Sancho. Yeah. yes Four years since he since he left, wherever he left, and came to United for £74 million.
00:24:47
Nick Britten
Yeah. Yep.
00:24:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Four years ago, what's £74 million worth now? He's just never done it. He's never done it in the Premier League.
00:24:56
Nick Britten
yep
00:24:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's never been convinced in the Premier League. I don't think he's going to be particularly convincing. ah for Villa. So, yeah, what's the space? But I don't think, i I've got a feeling that's going to backfire.
00:25:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
The other one I've just got a sneaking suspicion on is Alexander Isaac. I've got a feeling that by Christmas, people are saying, well, he's no Etiquite, is he?
00:25:19
Nick Britten
wo Interesting.
00:25:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Etiquite. I mean, I mean,
00:25:31
Nick Britten
He's no you're right. he isn't because he couldn't get his name right
00:25:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's decent, he's no Eketike. ah I think he's carrying an awful lot of weight and there's going to be an awful lot of expectation on him. He's carrying a big bill. He's got a big ticket on his shoulder.
00:25:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I just wonder... Just wonder that he doesn't quite do it for Liverpool in the same way he did it for Newcastle and doesn't make quite the impact that everybody is expecting. You heard it here first, everyone.
00:26:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
If, by the way, Liverpool sell him for £14 million to Tranmere Rovers in a year's time, you heard it here first.
00:26:09
Nick Britten
That's a big shout, mate. That's a big shout.
00:26:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, we shall see. That will bring it to a conclusion for today. We did we yeah we've enjoyed that. That's been a great one. 26 minutes of absolutely Pulitzer Prize winning football punditry. I mean, i'm not I'm not neutral, obviously, but I think it was a pretty good one. What you reckon, Nick?
00:26:29
Nick Britten
As always, mate, every day, every day is a dream day.
00:26:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Fantastic. Thanks for listening, everybody. Hope you have a lovely evening. Hope your teams, well, they won't be playing, but I hope they hope they're betting their new players in well.
00:26:40
Nick Britten
My team's playing.
00:26:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, look,
00:26:40
Nick Britten
I'm about to watch i'm about to watch a game now. I'm literally about to watch a game which kicks off in three minutes' time.
00:26:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Does it involve your son, by the way?
00:26:49
Nick Britten
It involves my son playing soccer in America and his game's about to start.
00:26:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Come on.
00:26:52
Nick Britten
So I'm going to go and watch that.
00:26:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Literally, you can you can watch it and go, come on, my son. And actually, it is actually true.
