Marcus takes us into the international break by looking at the nominations for the August Premier League Player of the Month and players to watch out for in an England shirt this time out.

With only three games played, the reigning champions Liverpool are already top of the league having edged a win against their closest rivals, Arsenal.

But with all three newly promoted sites having already registered a win, is it business as usual in the English Premier League? Or are there surprises around the corner?

Introduction and Autumn International Break

00:00:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Welcome back to the Global Sports Podcast Network, daily English Premier League podcast, as we head into the autumn international break. A chance for the teams to regroup, some players to get some rest, and others to make a name for themselves on the international stage.
00:00:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
we will still be bringing you the latest Premier League news, views and

Season Reflections and Player of the Month Nominations

00:00:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
opinions. I'm your host Marcus Ramtel and I'll be reflecting on the season so far with just three games played, nominations for August's Premier League Player of the Month and a look at England's players to watch in the international break.
00:00:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
And the international break is a bit of a misnomer, of course, because for 213 Premier League players have been called up to represent their country, they would, of course, continue to play football. With all 20 Premier League clubs having players called up to play for their country, it highlights the quality of the greatest football league on earth.
00:01:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
But... Here's a question for you. Can you guess which Premier League club has the most players in action this time around? No cheating. Stick around to the end to find out.

England Squad Decisions and World Cup Strategy

00:01:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm going to turn my attention homewards towards England, who will face Andorra and Latvia at home and away respectively. And... Thomas Tuchel has been criticised for leaving out an informed Jack Grealish and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Okay, he's struggling at Real Madrid at the moment, but he is still Trent Alexander-Arnold.
00:01:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now... I really don't get this criticism. i think Tuchel was a fantastic choice as England manager. Juktaj and I put the world to rights during his appointment on a previous episode of this podcast last year, so i won't go over old ground.
00:01:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
But on this selection, ah will say it's great to see him look at who could break into this team closer to the World Cup and testing players out who may just have a chance against somewhat lesser opposition.
00:02:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
That being said... Andorra game probably will be a walkover for England, but I think they should be ready for a match away at Latvia, which will really test the character of some of the players as well.

Jordan Henderson's Recall and New Talent

00:02:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Three names for you to keep your eye on in the next few days. Jordan Henderson is recalled to the England squad again, having returned to the English Premier League with Brentford. The title winning captain is a proven winner and European champion, and he's thought of very fondly in the England camp, even since back in the Southgate days.
00:02:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
And as well as experience, joining Brentford means he should be back to Premier League match fitness. And I think a match fit, sharp Jordan Henderson is a really good shout for an England squad at the World Cup.
00:02:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Two younger players who represent their players ah represent their country at the under-21 level have been called up to the senior squad. Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson joins in midfield. And if Spurs defender Jed Spence registers a single minute of football in the next two fixtures, he'll become the first Muslim player to have represented England end at men's international senior level, which would be quite a milestone. so I'm really looking forward to him hopefully getting some minutes over the next couple of games.

Bionique Partnership and Promo Details

00:03:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
As always, please let us know what you think. Is this the right squad selection from Tuchel? Is Jordan Henderson still a valuable addition to any England squad? And on recent form, is it right to leave Jack Greenish out this time around?
00:03:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Personally, I think Hendo is a great supplement to the team. And speaking of supplements, the Global Sports Podcast Network has partnered with Bionique, the world's most personalized supplements, because your body is unique.
00:03:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because without knowing exactly what your body needs, taking off the shelf supplements means you're probably not getting enough of the nutrients you do need and maybe too much of the nutrients you don't. Early Premier League Standings

00:04:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
forty percent off your first order so This is the Daily League Premier Podcast, so let's have a look at the league table.
00:04:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
We've just three games played, obviously a bit early to draw any conclusions, but already some familiar patterns emerging, as well as some surprises. Defending champions Liverpool are top, the only team with a 100% record with 3-3 and 9 points, second place Chelsea.
00:04:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
on seven points undefeated having just dropped two points on the opening day of the season against Palace who are the only other undefeated team in the league. They're followed by Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton and Sunderland all currently vying for European football at this very early stage.
00:04:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Incidentally if you are following along And you can see a league table in front of you. You'll see that Sunderland are listed as sixth alphabetically and not in a European place because they are actually on the same number of points as Everton, having won two and lost one.
00:05:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
But they also have the same goal difference and same number of goals for and against.

Relegation Zone and Fan Engagement

00:05:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, dear listeners and Premier League football fans, another question for you. If it stays like that by the end of the season,
00:05:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
How do they decide who will get the league position and the place in Europe? Again, no cheating. Answers at the end. The foot of the table sees Fulham, Villa and Wolves in the relegation zone places, with Wolves having not won a single match yet and on zero points, with all of the newly promoted clubs having won at least one match already. But of course, it's still all to play for with 35 match days still to go after the international break. So...
00:05:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
After three games, what do you think? Are you worried about your side? Is this a good indication of how the league will play out? And can one of the newly promoted sides avoid the pattern of falling straight back into the championship?

August EA Sports Player of the Month Discussion

00:06:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, and finally, the shortlist nominations for the EA Sports Player of the Month in August are out. And it features Arsenal's Riccardo Calafiore, Liverpool's new signing Ugo Eketike and his colleague Dominic Sabozlai, a rejuvenated Jack Grealish now at Everton,
00:07:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mark Gaye, still at Crystal Palace. Manchester City, ever present in these lists, earning Haaland. Brazilian Jao Pedro at Chelsea. And Bournemouth, Antoine Semeno.
00:07:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
All worthy of the shortlist, in my opinion. I'm so pleased to see Jack Grealish back and running at defenders. Not so much in the blue of the toffees, but maybe yeah in an England shirt in the future.
00:07:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just hope he has an off day when he comes to face Liverpool at Anfield. He's already registered four assists in his first three matches since making the move from Manchester to Merseyside. And I'm really excited to see how he plays under Moyes, an a assistant that gives him a lot more freedom for the rest of the season.
00:07:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Another transfer, Jao Pedro from Brighton to Chelsea is looking like a really nice piece of business. Two goals and two assists in three matches. And I think he's on his way already to becoming a firm fan favourite at the bridge.
00:07:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
And despite a rocky start for Manchester City by their records, by their standards, their talisman, Erling Haaland, continues to be Erling Haaland with three goals in three appearances.
00:08:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's kind of just become something we expect and he continues to deliver ridiculous numbers. Now on this podcast last year, I highlighted Ricciardo Calafiore as one of the best signings of any club in the pre-season window.
00:08:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
The versatile defender has not only been playing well in defence this season, but also has one goal and two assists to his name so far already. Over Merseyside again, Ekotike equaled a club record for Liverpool by scoring three consecutive goals in his first three games for the Reds.
00:08:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But in a transfer window that's been marred by some questionable professionalism, I'm personally drawn to these three players who have all been exceptional professionals so far this season.
00:08:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
First of all, Antoine Semenyo, who's the victim of racist abuse in the opening game of the season at Liverpool, but still managed to score a brace, including an incredible solo goal at one of the hardest grounds to go to in the world. So hats off to him.
00:09:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Dominic Sabozlai has done his job playing makeshift right-back role, covering for the injured Frimpong and the not-quite-so-ready Conor Bradley. Despite it not being his natural position, he's still being positive and professional under Arna Slott. He is running some hard yards, um so much fitness, so much energy.
00:09:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
And he topped off an exceptional end-to-end performance by securing all three points for the Reds against their title rivals, Arsenal, with a ridiculous free kick. That was very Trent Alexander-Arnold-esque.
00:09:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
course, you're welcome to disagree with me in the comments, but my choice for the player of the month for August has to be Mark Gay, Crystal Palace captain. They're undefeated so far this season and kept two clean sheets under his watch in defence.
00:09:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
He also scored a spectacular striker's goal against Aston Villa in what should have been his fairy tale farewell before the transfer window closed, with everyone expecting a deal to be completed to take him to Liverpool.
00:10:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I think it's even more thoroughly deserved considering what's been happening with various players in this transfer window and that he's maintained an insane level of professionalism. And when the time comes, as it probably will, for him to leave Palace, I am sure that the fans so will be very proud of him, hold him in high esteem and he can leave with his head held high.
