For the latest Everything Action Commentary, Zach and Chris attended Angela's Halloween party and watched the 1988 cult classic, Night of the Demons.

Starring Amelia Kinkade as Angela Franklin, she and her friend Suzanne (Linnea Quigley) throw a Halloween party in the abandoned mortuary known as Hull House.  While attempting to conduct a séance, the group accidentally unleashes a demonic entity that possesses Angela and begins to possess and/or kill everyone else at the party.  While watching the movie, Zach and Chris discuss Linnea Quigley's Ultimate Warrior-style makeup job, the extended dance sequence, how old "Stooge" (Hal Havins) is supposed to be, why everyone hates Helen (Allison Barron), and more.

You can watch Night of the Demons on The Roku Channel, PlutoTV, and Prime Video, and sync up our commentary track to watch along with the Everything Action crew.

00:00:41
Speaker
And we are watching the 1988 cult classic, Night of the Demons. A movie that's been on my, like, kind of two-watch list for a long time. i just never got around to watching it until now.
00:00:53
Speaker
And a movie I kind of forgot about. Okay. So you see you have seen it before, Chris? I have never seen it, but it's one of those things where um I know it's like a cult classic and I just like never add it to a list and it's like never recommended to me and in like any kind of like horror things we've been watching and I don't know why.
00:01:17
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, it's it's got it's got like three movies. It's like a a series. There's the there's a like a remake

Where to Stream 'Night of the Demons'

00:01:23
Speaker
in like 2009. You know what it
00:01:26
Speaker
I like i think like In my watch list, I didn't watch a lot of demon possession movies. I watched a lot of like zombies, um satanic, like worshiper movies, and okay then occasionally like serial killer ones. like So like the demon, demon ones don't get brought up.
00:01:46
Speaker
I think um was it like Hell Knight was the last like big horror movie for us that like it was just like blatantly like a demonic movie.
00:01:58
Speaker
Tales from the Crypt one. oh Oh, Demon Knight, yeah. Demon Knight, yeah.
00:02:04
Speaker
Yeah, he Hell Knight's another 80s horror movie. um But yeah, this this yeah this one's, like I feel like, is ah pretty pretty well... 80s horror fans know this one.
00:02:20
Speaker
um it's It's definitely a cult classic. It's got you know, Linnea Quigley co-stars in it, so that, that's, you like, people remember that.

Opening Scene and 1980s Horror Vibe

00:02:32
Speaker
And, yeah, so we're we're watching it on Prime Video, it's and but it's it's all over the place. It's like, it's on YouTube, it's on Tubi, it's on Prime Video, it's it's all over, there's no shortage of finding deep demons anywhere on the internet, so just find a copy.
00:02:48
Speaker
And then we are paused at zero, so right before the MGM logo comes up.
00:02:55
Speaker
So I'll give a countdown here. We'll get started. So five, four, three, two, one, play.
00:03:15
Speaker
ah So what a time to be alive where you can actually find this movie more accessible. Because I'm going say like 15 years ago, really hard to track down this movie, like on streaming. Yeah, I see on like every stream, especially like the free ones, like Pluto and Tubi. It's been like a constant.
00:03:36
Speaker
Oh, got an animated opening. It's creep show. It's what you did.
00:03:44
Speaker
It's like an original song, too, hopefully.
00:03:58
Speaker
You said this was 89? 88. Okay, 88. okay eighty eight So... Rap was about to become really big. man. If there was a is a rap...
00:04:29
Speaker
All kinds of demons. whole nine of them.
00:04:40
Speaker
This is very like old school like Halloween decoration like animation. It's something that you would see at like a CVS. Just sort of non... Black cat, witch, pumpkin, ghost. Except for the demons with horns. You don't see a lot of that.
00:04:58
Speaker
mean, now it's venturing into like animalistic demons. Except for that one.
00:05:09
Speaker
Well, think this movie takes a lot from ah Evil Dead.

Plot Overview and Character Analysis

00:05:12
Speaker
like It's kind of like they unwittingly unleash demons and then they get possessed by demons.
00:05:20
Speaker
And if you're like dead-edit fashion.
00:05:24
Speaker
You know, I forget that deep Evil Dead is a demon movie. And then there hasn't really been a good like comedy demon movie in a while.
00:05:51
Speaker
Dennis Michael... So that must be... It's gotta be like the director's like brother or something. Cause the director's Kevin S. Teddy. The guy who does the music is Dennis Michael Teddy. Well, budget.
00:06:11
Speaker
He had a Casio and he knew how to use it. bad song. It's just Every effect on the Casio.
00:06:26
Speaker
I wish it was a song with lyrics, and like they had an actual band to make a Night of the Demon song. yeah Maybe for the end credits, when we get to it, maybe it'll be an actual song.
00:06:37
Speaker
Maybe be a love ballad. Or maybe, here we go, metal!
00:07:03
Speaker
Stooge, okay. Stooge the pig man. Yup.
00:07:11
Speaker
This is like, like, uh, I'm trying to think, like, is Stooge in high school? Or is this like, he's just in a neighborhood, like, drunk?
00:07:26
Speaker
I'm assuming they're, I'm assuming they have to all be in high school.
00:07:36
Speaker
Ooh, a nice homage to Halloween.
00:07:43
Speaker
do- doo do doo- do- do- do do doo doter do
00:07:57
Speaker
How did he get, like, tricked when he ran right in front of him? Like, you saw him, like, running up to him. Well, probably just, like, you he He made sure there a blind spot in that old guy to run up with a toy rat.
00:08:17
Speaker
Jesus Christ, everyone just approaching him? He's having a heart attack.
00:08:29
Speaker
Never mind.
00:08:41
Speaker
Oh, geez. What? Is he just putting razor blades in apples? He's putting razor blades in the apples, yep.
00:09:53
Speaker
I think Angela's like the only character, like she like appears in every single movie.
00:09:59
Speaker
So, like the girl's not on

1980s Horror Tropes and Film Rating

00:10:01
Speaker
screen yet, right? that no Yeah, yeah. I imagine she's probably the person who finds the Book of the Dead. kind like a minor horror icon. Because she's been in other movies, this demon villain.
00:10:11
Speaker
or icon like eighty s because like cheap beard like other movies is like this like demon villain
00:10:26
Speaker
um have you so Have you seen the poster for this movie? It depends on which one. I've seen, like, green. It's like, like, Demon Angela, and it says, like, it's like, Angela's having a Halloween party, and Freddy and Jason weren't invited.
00:10:38
Speaker
oh
00:11:01
Speaker
Oh, the pervert little brother. And he's staple.
00:11:17
Speaker
That mess is like way too big for his head.
00:11:50
Speaker
This guy is trying so hard to act like he is, like... like The Fonz? The Fonz, like John Travolta from, like, Greece.
00:12:02
Speaker
Yeah.
00:12:05
Speaker
I'm also confused, because they live in what I think is California? So where is this, like... like This kind of greasery greaser? Jersey greaser? Yeah.
00:12:15
Speaker
Up your nose with a rubber hose. Yeah, like they have like a Jersey, like Italian accent and. And they live in the suburbs.
00:12:40
Speaker
Hey, oh, sit on it. I'm walking
00:13:23
Speaker
Who is this actor?
00:13:28
Speaker
He doesn't have a Wikipedia page, so this might be his only movie.
00:13:34
Speaker
and These are heroes of the movie? This guy who is clear like these creepers? We should call Night of the Creeps.
00:13:43
Speaker
like Like fake Stevie King? That guy is clearly in his late twenty s
00:13:52
Speaker
There's Angela.
00:13:57
Speaker
i mean, I get it. This was pre-internet days, so you just had to wait for customers, like, being kind of, i don't know, oblivious.
00:14:13
Speaker
It would be smart if we find out that this was the plan, like, this girl doing this but if it wasn't, ooh... ah like I like how it's just like, the only sound is like like, like, whatever machine, like Pac-Man.
00:14:24
Speaker
but Yeah, it does sound like Pac-Man. Or like Galica. Yeah. But there's no music, it's literally just an arcade machine.
00:14:36
Speaker
Okay, so this was planned.
00:14:40
Speaker
I think this is Lea Quigley? Yeah, Lea Quigley, yep.
00:14:51
Speaker
Okay, so this is Clerk 1 and 2. Clerk 1 James W. Quinn, and Clerk 2 is Clark Jarrett. ah clark jar
00:15:26
Speaker
I mean, four years prior to this movie, Leah Quigley was dancing naked in a graveyard, so... I feel like, was that the start of like her like Scream Queen kind of run? I feel like she probably did one more movie before that.
00:15:41
Speaker
But that definitely propelled her to, like, we need to get more of this.
00:15:48
Speaker
Also, like, this is rated R, right? Yeah, we've already seen, like, nudity.
00:15:57
Speaker
We did? Well, I guess like like her bra was like see-through. That doesn't count. That's like PG. ah speech I'm sure there's probably more coming up. it's It's like a ah high school party.
00:16:19
Speaker
it was invited at the insurance dude in this house? It's like, hey, I'm Don Johnson.
00:16:28
Speaker
Who invited the square?
00:16:33
Speaker
wow why is it wet? Like, why?
00:16:45
Speaker
yeah i hope i like how that that kind of body type in the 80s is skinny. They're like, oh, that you're skinny.
00:16:53
Speaker
Man, Leah Quigley was in like six horror movies or horror comedies in like 1988 alone.
00:17:02
Speaker
Yeah, if you go on our IMDb, you just keep scrolling down to find this error. This woman was just acting.
00:17:11
Speaker
And i think I think two years later was like like the infamous Leah Quigley horror workout. It was two years from this or two years prior? tears Two years from this. like in It was 1990.
00:17:22
Speaker
Wow. but like her like yeah Her horror like workout video.
00:17:28
Speaker
Didn't we find like the cassette of that or something? I'm i'm sure we've probably seen it at a convention somewhere.
00:17:34
Speaker
It's like the music of that workout.
00:17:40
Speaker
I bet someone to put it on YouTube. I'm sure you can watch the whole thing.

Party Scene Breakdown

00:17:49
Speaker
do like Watch that with like a double feature of Alyssa Milano with Teen Heat or whatever that one was. Teen Steam or... No. that Do not double back-to-back that. That is not the right crowd. Or Duff Lungard Maximum Potential.
00:18:02
Speaker
That one makes sense. And that Alyssa Milano one is... like That's a quote-unquote workout video. It's just her just having her like i don't know beauty... Stretching, yeah. Yeah. like
00:18:26
Speaker
what car was this that it has this like all-wheel drive to like or like we rare you drive to do that kind of turnout without flipping did they create it for Halloween or they like there's always just like spray painted like it looks like a demolition derby car
00:19:34
Speaker
Do they even say the title of the movie? Is that just implied? Well, I mean, they haven't said yet. Like, you think someone's gonna say, like, oh man, this is this is such a Night of the Demons. Yeah, just a very casual drop-in conversation.
00:19:47
Speaker
It's like a Night of the Demons up in here. And then the next movie, they're like, it's a Night of the Demons 2! Mm-hmm.
00:20:02
Speaker
Ha Take that, Scooch. That's a classic. Yeah, yeah, I've seen that joke.
00:20:36
Speaker
like It's like the House of Hardy Hill.
00:20:41
Speaker
Also, like, that seems like a landmark. Like a mausoleum building that I feel like ah this town probably could turn that into something.
00:21:20
Speaker
It's so cool! Such a natural dialogue flow.
00:21:26
Speaker
Let me explain the history of Whole House!
00:21:50
Speaker
the full up stuff and so
00:22:08
Speaker
Listen to this house.
00:22:30
Speaker
Thank God Max is here to like tell us all the like exposition about the house. Is he like this house nerd? I know all about the Dark Town's history.
00:23:00
Speaker
Too quiet.
00:23:25
Speaker
That's some rough transition right there.
00:23:38
Speaker
Angela really, like, screwed up, like, the time like the invitations or, like, the time of, like, hey, be here at this time. Yeah, was it, like, yesterday? Like, the next day? They're, like, super early.
00:23:48
Speaker
Yeah.
00:23:50
Speaker
It's not even their party, right? Like, they're just going to it? It's it. It's Angela and Linnea Kawuga's party.
00:24:22
Speaker
The cores.
00:24:35
Speaker
Sal. His name is Sal. Yep. Mm-hmm.
00:24:58
Speaker
You know, Sal actually might be... Yep, he's from Brooklyn. Okay, that makes sense. So he's not faking the accent. He's just really stressing being Italian. Well, they got this party going, like, really fast.
00:25:12
Speaker
Wow, did they bring a car full of, like, Halloween prep work? Like, they've got props. They've got the lighting. Mm-hmm.
00:25:43
Speaker
What the hell is a song?
00:25:50
Speaker
ah Computer dating service? What? That's like the lyrics, it's like, I'm on the computer dating service! This is like that era of like, punk rock where like, it's just nonsense.
00:26:06
Speaker
Yeah, it's it's like fake Devo a little bit, but... Yeah, kinda, yeah. But it's even like, play a spooky song!
00:26:40
Speaker
Lindsay's tons of fun. Just bring her to any party. She knows what to do.

Character Dynamics and Plot Development

00:26:48
Speaker
Also, is she in high school? like I think they're all supposed to be in high school. 80s was a crazy time.
00:27:03
Speaker
And this is this is it. this is all this Everyone's coming to the party.
00:27:26
Speaker
Oh, Max is dating this girl? Yeah. Because they all came together.
00:27:35
Speaker
We're going to find out ah who's got ah like epilepsy. Epilepsy. Woo! a part is If I saw that, i like this is annoying.
00:27:51
Speaker
Drink your beer, getting like seizures. Yeah! Yeah!
00:28:00
Speaker
How did they choose like who to invite? Because like they Judy it like says like she didn't really know who Angela was. She's just in history class. That's why no one likes her. That's why like only through the guy. Because the guy's friends of these people.
00:28:15
Speaker
Yeah.
00:28:41
Speaker
yeah yeah We're friends because we all want to bang each other.
00:28:51
Speaker
All right, Tony Zuko, just quiet right now. yeah ah Was it Tommy Zuko? Yeah.
00:29:08
Speaker
I'm surprised one of them isn't just like the religious friend.
00:29:17
Speaker
I guess yeah Judy's the closest, I guess, because she's like...
00:29:24
Speaker
Like, dressed as, like, Bo Peep. No, no, she's dressed like Alice in Wonderland, I think. Alice in Wonderland, okay, yeah
00:29:33
Speaker
But maybe it's, like, unlicensed Alice, so she can't say what she is.
00:29:40
Speaker
but She's she'ss clearly the final girl.
00:30:01
Speaker
Oh, they're dead. That was quick.
00:30:31
Speaker
Wow.
00:30:35
Speaker
Dear God.
00:30:46
Speaker
Maybe it'll unleash the night of the demons. All right. Ready everybody. Candyman. Candyman. Candyman.
00:31:24
Speaker
Boom! Roasted!
00:31:52
Speaker
hello
00:32:41
Speaker
It's a pretty good shot.
00:33:20
Speaker
umm sure there's nothing demonic or evil in the basement.
00:33:28
Speaker
So was the mirror, like, just... Like, keeping the water supply intact? Like, how it saw, like, ah ah a dragon demon man and then like, an old woman, and then, like, it crashed.
00:33:45
Speaker
Like, maybe that broke the barrier? Like, the mirror, like, breaking... broke the thematic barrier that teens partying in my house the sheriff is ripping off evil dead now okay are we gonna watch one of them like run through the hall
00:35:34
Speaker
Did you guys see Evil Dead?

Exploring Demon Possession Themes

00:35:41
Speaker
what did did roger like What did Roger see? Because he's like still freaked out
00:36:06
Speaker
So they've only been partying for like what feels like an hour? Maybe the prep time was like like half an hour. So that it's like really short for this party. Yeah. it's like Well, it's like however long it took them to set up, like, because like they got there, it wasn't set up. So they set the whole party and then they partied for like a little bit.
00:36:22
Speaker
They played with a mirror and then they all like looked to themselves. Yeah, no one seems drunk or anything. so it's just like each they each had like one beer. well i was Back then, beer was like 4% alcohol. like You had to drink a lot of beer.
00:36:39
Speaker
Yeah.
00:36:54
Speaker
How does she know the rules?
00:36:58
Speaker
Okay.
00:37:02
Speaker
See, the way he said kids, I'm like, is he older than everyone? He graduated from high school, but he just doesn't... He's like some of the high school kids. Makes sense.
00:37:19
Speaker
Cool.
00:37:29
Speaker
Was that a phrase? Eat a bowl of fuck.
00:37:43
Speaker
I don't want to eat a bowl of fuck.
00:38:04
Speaker
yeah No, they don't want to live in this house for the night, you know? like We're staying here all night.
00:38:19
Speaker
These two made the smartest decision ever. Yep.
00:38:30
Speaker
Oh, boy. boy.
00:38:41
Speaker
We've heard the sweet water container downstairs. You want to go check it out? Let's go find a coffin.
00:39:19
Speaker
This is Stooges night. Woo. Yep. Everything's coming up. Stooge.
00:39:30
Speaker
Oh, it's that kind of party. Okay.
00:39:41
Speaker
You know, this does the more and more more watch them. Like, this is like a good night of the dead. Like, The Evil Dead kind homage. Mm-hmm.
00:40:24
Speaker
I wonder what the actor who played Stooge is up to these days.
00:40:29
Speaker
Hal Hevery.
00:40:32
Speaker
Hal Havens, yeah. Havens?
00:40:36
Speaker
Alright.
00:40:40
Speaker
Okay, he's stuck around in horror. In like, kind of period piece things.
00:40:58
Speaker
He was in like two other Lea Quigley movies.
00:41:04
Speaker
He's not terrible in this, but he sort of is ah the bully character. Mm-hmm.
00:41:49
Speaker
Oh
00:41:56
Speaker
my god. More historical facts with this nerd. Wow. Max goes to the party.
00:42:07
Speaker
He's not impressing like eighty s Don Draper.
00:42:39
Speaker
Oh god, they're playing like- do you hear the music they're playing? No. It's like- it's like vaguely like Native American music.
00:42:51
Speaker
It stopped, right? Like- Yeah. stopped, yeah. Was it just like two notes? It was like, wah-na-na-na-na.
00:43:21
Speaker
Oh, they actually reference Alice in Wonderland.
00:44:19
Speaker
Man, everyone treats Hell like shit. Mm-hmm.
00:44:49
Speaker
demons it's your night
00:45:04
Speaker
the house is alive
00:45:18
Speaker
Did he just abandon that girl?

The Demon Dance and Its Impact

00:45:20
Speaker
Yep.
00:45:37
Speaker
Making out on, I think, a desk. Yeah. So romantic.
00:45:44
Speaker
It's the embalming table.
00:46:31
Speaker
You know, she had like a mental breakdown before and he's just like, all right, let's get it back on. is like an HR skit.
00:46:50
Speaker
I'm gonna see what Lelhea quickly is up to. Like you're friends with that girl, but then you're like, oh, I want the the girl that dated the greaser. Yeah.
00:47:06
Speaker
ah Jay's not a good guy after all.
00:47:18
Speaker
This is like the opposite. The but like... Stu just wants to to like have a good time with his friend. That like... He thought this was the night.
00:47:30
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:47:45
Speaker
That's pretty good effect for the time.
00:48:13
Speaker
So something with mirrors, like, they can, like, travel through mirrors, maybe, or something? oh I'm guessing it the spirits are, like, in another dimension that exists in, like, a mirror universe, maybe?
00:48:30
Speaker
Because they didn't open a book, right? They it just looked into a mirror, and then I guess if the living things are looking into mirrors in a haunted location, like they said,
00:48:41
Speaker
the spirits can get released, but then the way they can enter the body, it's like sometimes through like your, your mouth or like your nose, but then definitely the spirit entered her through her mouth. yeah
00:49:03
Speaker
Oh, whenever someone does prayers like this, it's never a good sign.
00:49:32
Speaker
You ever done it with a dragon thing?
00:49:36
Speaker
ever done it with a Mardi Gras parade? Like, mascot?
00:49:46
Speaker
Is this like demonic interpretive dance?
00:49:56
Speaker
This was the art of seduction back in the 18th century when this demon was released. I have no word joke enough for this.
00:50:07
Speaker
i mean, if you go back to that first song they played about the computer dating and stuff, yeah this is the kind of dance you'd hear during that kind of song.
00:50:20
Speaker
Speaking of which...
00:50:27
Speaker
ye now it's seen The music should start it as soon as she danced. Not like a minute of just silent interpretive dance.
00:50:52
Speaker
So I imagine this was the Wednesday dance of the 80s. People were trying to do this at dance parties and stuff.
00:51:03
Speaker
If there was a TikTok back then, this would have been it.
00:51:14
Speaker
Also, I love that this is the kind of song that if you were a teen in the 80s, this would be like a song you play to make your parents mad. yeah You turn off that Stigmata song right now!
00:51:26
Speaker
Sacrilegious!
00:51:37
Speaker
The clicker's into it.
00:51:47
Speaker
Is Sal gonna put any, like, kind of Brooklyn wisdom? Like, it's like... i don't I don't mess around with no demon dance. Yeah.
00:52:06
Speaker
Oh, great. Even the song's got some Latin in it.
00:52:13
Speaker
See, here's the thing. Is the song opening the curse, or is it just like a convenient thing where the demon ah dancing likes the song?
00:52:25
Speaker
Yeah, I think the demon just like turned like turned the music back on.
00:53:09
Speaker
We're going sew things down a little bit here.
00:53:14
Speaker
It's still like the same lyrics, like, stigmata. Yep.............
00:53:39
Speaker
Thank you.
00:54:11
Speaker
I feel like there should have some sort of pun like about tongues. Yeah, but then that would have been into the Freddy's territory. Yeah, it's like, what's the matter, Stu? You don't like tongue?
00:54:25
Speaker
am I a pretty Barbie girl?
00:55:05
Speaker
She's trying to like ultimate warrior like face paint. ah
00:55:11
Speaker
The demons are in me. Well, this would have been that error, right? This would have been... Yeah, definitely, yeah. Just sort Ultimate Warrior looking like a rave bro by today's standards.
00:55:26
Speaker
I will possess you, Hulk Hogan. always forget that the Ultimate Warrior back then, the term was that he was just like... He's possessed by the Spirit of the Warrior, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
00:55:40
Speaker
I mean, she's trying to get possessed by the Spirit right here. yeah
00:55:47
Speaker
Like, you didn't need that shot. I do appreciate that shot, but it didn't do anything. Like, no one's there. no

Demon Rules and Horror Conventions

00:55:55
Speaker
one's shocked. It's sort of like the whatever evil demon was just like, all right, now you paint your chest.
00:56:11
Speaker
You coffins were invented in the It's like you're just going off about like coffin history. Yeah. ah The sad and sexy night of the demon's ballot.
00:56:31
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:56:42
Speaker
Those are totally real.
00:56:49
Speaker
Follow the spy rule.
00:56:55
Speaker
Okay. Save that for later.
00:57:04
Speaker
that was a pretty cool effect.
00:57:14
Speaker
You ever do it with a warrior?
00:57:27
Speaker
You want to see a trick with my nipple?
00:57:39
Speaker
Jay, you horny idiot.
00:57:45
Speaker
I'm splitting this party wasn't invited to.
00:57:54
Speaker
ah wow. It's like the jaw shot.
00:58:32
Speaker
Yep, Roger just sing out the entire movie.
00:59:08
Speaker
yeah
00:59:25
Speaker
Oh yeah, we forgot about her. Yeah.
00:59:56
Speaker
Yeah, I definitely missed that on this movie. Like... Again... Should have seen it earlier.
01:00:12
Speaker
But yeah, once you mention the Ultimate Warrior face paint, it it is not what I think.
01:00:20
Speaker
Look at my face.
01:00:35
Speaker
Am I not a pre-princess?
01:00:47
Speaker
o Okay, this movie is like very confidently shot, so what what else does the director make after this?
01:01:24
Speaker
R.I.P.
01:01:42
Speaker
Oh, he directed the yeah the remake. Wow. And so the only one he did direct was Night and Demons 2, but he directed every other Night and Demons movie.
01:01:59
Speaker
And in all the Witchborn movies. That's another series i haven't seen. Yeah.
01:02:10
Speaker
I think that Witchborn got a remake this year, I think.
01:02:22
Speaker
Well, seems like the same writer and then the director
01:02:28
Speaker
is the same.
01:02:31
Speaker
Director Kevin Tini? Yeah, Kevin kevin S. Tenney is like...
01:02:40
Speaker
Tenney just kept making horror movies. Oh, he he he just he produced the new one. He direct a new one. The new Night of the Demons. He just produced ah Tenny? Yeah. Last movie we directed was 2009's Bigfoot.
01:03:13
Speaker
What's with this door? It's the strongest door. It's like locked from both sides. Can't open it either way. i mean, it seemed like the demon has no control for that door. So like the demons don't aren't doing that.
01:03:26
Speaker
Well, Jay left and just like locked the door behind them, I guess.
01:04:18
Speaker
Oh, right. Good night for Sal. Yep.
01:04:34
Speaker
How are you liking the party?
01:05:49
Speaker
Well, Selga out. Bye, Sal.
01:06:01
Speaker
how Judy's really know not friends with any of these people. Nope.
01:06:09
Speaker
And then, are we ever going to go back to that nipple lipstick thing?
01:06:16
Speaker
No, like her makeup sticks too now, so it's just like, alright.
01:06:21
Speaker
Do you just have a weird like like acid trip or something?
01:06:32
Speaker
So,
01:06:35
Speaker
what's your take on demons messing with these people?
01:06:41
Speaker
Are they just wicked? Like, they're just having fun?
01:06:47
Speaker
kind of seems like it. see like it was We're in these human bodies now. Let's just fuck with people.
01:06:55
Speaker
i mean, yeah, now now more so than ever.

Character Actions and Plot Humor

01:06:59
Speaker
Because it's not like the goal is to get some sort of book, or ah convert a non-believer, or something, you know? They didn't seem like zombies. No, Max didn't.
01:07:15
Speaker
Yeah. Franny, the Asian lady, she definitely was, but it it was so dark, you couldn't really tell.
01:07:32
Speaker
It definitely seems like it's played by Deadite rules, where it's just like... Deadites didn't really have a specific goal, they just wanted to like possess everyone fuck with you everyone. Yeah.
01:07:54
Speaker
it I mean... Demon movies always had to, like, we need to possess certain key people in order to, like, get to some sort of relic. Or even, um...
01:08:09
Speaker
we We need to, like... Try to, like, possess all these people by, like, figuring who the most evil is to the most good.
01:08:20
Speaker
Like, down the line. Mm-hmm. But this seemed random. It was like, alright, you, you, maybe you. Like, wouldn't it make sense for the demons to possess all the people, not just, like, kill every other person?
01:08:34
Speaker
Well, it seems like you kill them, then you also possess them. so like They turn, like, zombies whatever. So it's like... True, true. Create an army. But, like, it seems like the most powerful ones of the...
01:08:49
Speaker
Are the ah the like humans they didn't murder. like They just kissed them or whatever. like The girls seem to be intact.
01:08:58
Speaker
Why would you want to possess a one-armed zombie? Jay's just straight dead. yeah.
01:09:09
Speaker
oh yeah
01:09:58
Speaker
I'm in jail now!
01:10:22
Speaker
Somebody's gotta find a chainsaw!
01:10:30
Speaker
I don't feel like that this is ah this kind of movie where the hero finds, like, weapons. No, yeah.
01:10:40
Speaker
If anything, seems like a endurance, a survival morning, maybe? Maybe.
01:10:49
Speaker
they gotta get back across, like, beyond, like, the running water, because, like, Max said, they can't cross running water.
01:10:59
Speaker
That makes sense. Yeah, get out. Yeah, get... Yeah, find, like, the like gate that disappeared, like, get through it and escape the house.
01:11:12
Speaker
You know, the more you say this... ah Is this a remake of House Who? I don't think so. Because it's another, like, bunch people go to a house and then...
01:11:25
Speaker
they pretty much have to start being picked off one by one because the house is crazy.
01:11:33
Speaker
I mean, it's not like ah like a blatant house-y thing, but it's it's more like this haunted place is messing with them. And there's no rhyme and reason. It's just like, like hey, check this out.
01:11:48
Speaker
Got you, you know?
01:12:06
Speaker
Did Frank Welker do i like a cameo with the demon voice? It sounds like Frank, right? It's like Dr. Klaue.
01:12:24
Speaker
Sal, no!
01:12:59
Speaker
I got an effing gym.
01:13:37
Speaker
A good thing that ah the demon just waited. yeah
01:13:49
Speaker
Wait, what? The tube's so far already died tonight. That's great.
01:13:59
Speaker
Like, did the demon make that, or they have to like get there and fabricate it? So many questions. like You know what I mean? like it's It's just silly.
01:14:13
Speaker
Again... The mirror breaking was just, it happened on its own. It's not like they bumped into it, it broke, the demons were just like, cool. Our latest round of people in our like deadly house.
01:14:26
Speaker
The barrier is broken.
01:14:30
Speaker
But the mirror broke on its own, right? Well, like like they so like the dragon thing and like the old old woman demon, whatever that was, like burst out. and then like Or like Helen saw those and then it fell over. So the demons must have pushed it over or something for the other side.
01:14:55
Speaker
and that broke the barrier between the demon world and our world.
01:15:03
Speaker
Oh yeah, we haven't gotten to the dragon thing yet, and the movie is like almost over. You see his tube? Sal's tube says he died tonight. That's hilarious.
01:16:05
Speaker
That's the crematorium of it. yeah
01:16:47
Speaker
Yeah, that's definitely an oven.
01:16:56
Speaker
Has she never seen an oven before?
01:17:07
Speaker
Wait, did she just realize she's in a, like... A funeral home? funeral home? Yeah. They burnt bodies?

Film Climax and Character Outcomes

01:17:35
Speaker
So is that why this place is haunted? Because it burns people?
01:17:41
Speaker
i it's like every funeral home. so
01:17:45
Speaker
Is every funeral home secretly like a demon hangout? Maybe.
01:18:18
Speaker
We have such sights to show you.
01:18:31
Speaker
That's how it works, right? Sure. This is, uh... These are some rules by the end of the movie.
01:18:47
Speaker
Do you all remember that? Remember that the beginning of the movie? Listen, once Lena Quigley got ah yeah naked, I kind of forgot certain key plot points.
01:19:23
Speaker
Maybe put those bolts back? Yeah.
01:19:46
Speaker
I kind of think Roger gave up. Yeah. I'll be very impressed Judy can like rip a pipe out of the wall.
01:19:56
Speaker
Oh my god. She's got like that final girl strength.
01:20:03
Speaker
Also, the gas is still on. That's not good. Who's paying for that?
01:20:14
Speaker
Oh my god! Flameshower? What? play
01:20:23
Speaker
Why'd she have a lighter? why did she have a lighter She took it from the ceremony. Oh, okay. I remember that. Yeah.
01:20:37
Speaker
Man, good thing these demons are dumb.
01:20:55
Speaker
I didn't think this through.
01:21:37
Speaker
I kind of don't mind Roger being the coward.
01:21:42
Speaker
It might have been annoying, but the fact that, like, the plot moves around him...
01:21:51
Speaker
it's it's It's like a smart reaction. i' just like Him just being like, Peace out! I'm out of here! Like...
01:22:23
Speaker
Not so much a blind date as a... like, jerk date. Well, cause he's blind now, get it? yeah
01:22:59
Speaker
Whoa! He went through like... bars? Like, he'd go through like a bar-dew window?
01:23:24
Speaker
Geronimo!
01:23:37
Speaker
It's good that the monsters let him do that. Yep.
01:24:14
Speaker
They're very slowly getting away. That's a new power. He has the power of heat.
01:24:44
Speaker
It's because he's burned now or something. He got burned. He's like super hot.
01:25:42
Speaker
You know, at this point, it's so dragged on that I don't think Judy's the final girl. i think it's Roger. Oh. Wait, it's back to the same shot. Yeah, sure.
01:26:14
Speaker
oh See, it's it's endurance rules.
01:26:34
Speaker
I did not really expect that it would be like a thing. who whoa like It's like Shao Kahn. Right at the end of like Mortal Kombat. Yep.
01:26:49
Speaker
See you next Halloween! Bring more friends!
01:27:06
Speaker
So they didn't really do anything besides just hang out with, uh, like the

Final Thoughts and Cult Status Discussion

01:27:11
Speaker
dead. Mm-hmm.
01:27:54
Speaker
I thought maybe that old man would get his comeuppance or anything? Yeah. Maybe it's kind it's a stinger of like, theyre theyre they escaped the house. But now the house is mobile
01:29:10
Speaker
you know that's not how that works but okay go no no
01:29:31
Speaker
There's an entire movie that we need to like see about those two. Like, what the hell is going on with them? So, was it that, like, she was possessed? Or she's just, like, ah like a psycho person?
01:29:44
Speaker
Regardless. like yeah like that one She's just like, I'm fed up times when I'm trying to kill kids, I'm gonna kill him. That was like a Creepshow ending. That yeah like it is a Creepshow ending. That's on
01:29:59
Speaker
Okay, because that had nothing to do with the demon. I
01:30:10
Speaker
don't know. If you're in the mood for, like, laughs, this is a great, because it's unexpected. There's no rhyme and reason for the demons.
01:30:20
Speaker
It's sort of just like mischief. So that means in every sequel, it always takes place during Halloween or something where the demons have like a full night to play. Yeah, and I think the later ones expand out to like bigger and bigger areas. Like like I think Night of Demons 2 is like on like a college campus something maybe. Okay, okay. then it spreads like like different like, so it's like a house and then it kind of spreads more and more until like the third one.
01:30:48
Speaker
I'm interested in seeing the rest of the series. um i I don't think it ever beats the sexiness and silliness of this one, right?
01:30:58
Speaker
Do you think like they still keep up that attitude of like the formula of nudity and then like gore?
01:31:07
Speaker
i think probably. haven't seen the R2E, but like I bet the tone is probably the same. I say that because Night a Living Dead... ah is one of my favorite zombie movies, and it starts and has the the balance of gore and nudity, where it's like, just enough nudity to get into it.
01:31:25
Speaker
Return to Living Dead? Return to Living Dead. And then, like, silliness, and then the like twisted dark humor. This is mostly dark humor, and then random nudity.
01:31:37
Speaker
um But, like like, just like Return Living Dead, diminishing returns on the nudity and like the comedy. So I'm kind of like wondering if Night of the Demons 2 and 3 just sort of get like more and more sanitized.
01:32:12
Speaker
Are we waiting for the love ballot? Yeah. Why don't, like, so like, Amelia Kincaid who plays Angela with is in like all three movies. So like, Angela keeps coming back somehow.
01:32:43
Speaker
The beast inside? Okay, it's sort of demonic.
01:33:04
Speaker
Alright, yeah, so Night of the Demons crossed that on the list. Yep.
01:33:11
Speaker
Yeah, that was exactly what i expected it to be, which is just like a schlocky 80s horror movie. I didn't know what to expect because I just haven't seen this, but I definitely feel like I missed out on a whole um horror night with friends. like I should have like watched this in like, hey, we're starting the day with this and then ending the night with Return of the Living Dead. you know like it's ah It's definitely that category that you haven't I haven't seen a lot.
01:33:41
Speaker
which's kind of There's like there's like a weird... like they're not related in any any way, but like there's like these like night of movies like from the 80s. There's Night the Creeps, Night of the Comet, obviously Night of the Demons. like They're all in that same cult horror genre.
01:34:01
Speaker
Yeah, I think it's because it's a bottleneck plot where it can only be this one night. Everything has to be explained and then sort of wrapped up in the same time frame.
01:34:14
Speaker
imagine this movie took place over two nights it wouldn't make sense
01:34:20
Speaker
and we recently talked about movies where it's like like the fog where yeah it takes place like over like feels like a week and it's not as yeah intense because of that yeah the remake not the original original is one night yeah it was all of its like tension where it's just like i'm just gonna wind around it like during the daytime just like solve a mystery Yeah, and then there's like a lot a bunch of fake-outs in the 2005 remake of The Fog, where I'm kind of just seeing the original Fog because it's like a tight-focus story that you doesn't have a lot of room to like explore the tension, like the MacGuffin of the...
01:35:02
Speaker
villains. Here, there is no MacGuffin of the demons. It's sort of like, welcome to this house. It's our hell night where we mess with whoever's in our house.
01:35:13
Speaker
We may or may not fix everything we've broken. Who knows? like Does that house auto-fix itself at the end where it's like, okay, well, we had our fun, put everything back together. mean, it's already pretty destroyed.
01:35:27
Speaker
It's like a run-down funeral home. i No one's come up there to check and be like, oh, this this like chair's out of place.

Closing Remarks and Social Media Promotion

01:35:34
Speaker
This mirror got smashed. True, true. But does that mean like so like every time they have parties there, like people go there, ah they keep dropping off new, like updated stuff?
01:35:47
Speaker
Because there's a lot of parties there. I mean, a lot of teens make it a wanted hangout.
01:35:59
Speaker
yeah I don't yeah i don't don't know if there's a lot of like party going on there, but it's just like this like local... like It seems like it's it's really out of the way, and it's got like it's all this weird history. It seems like it's like a pain to get there.
01:36:11
Speaker
Yeah. I'm only saying that because that one historical nerd was really into it. That was just Max. He's just like, yeah, I read the library. The library gave me all these books. It's awesome.
01:36:27
Speaker
Read about our town's history.
01:36:36
Speaker
yeah that was that was fun that was a fun way to like celebrate Halloween if you're hearing if you're hearing this when it goes up you know Halloween is I think a couple days away so happy Halloween to everybody out there don't watch this movie in an empty funeral home no yeah don't don't bring any mirrors don't do yet like seances where you like try to see your past lives and then like awakens demons
01:36:59
Speaker
That's another thing. it had not but The seance had nothing to do with everything else, right? Yeah, it was supposed to show them... Angel was trying to see like where her past life was, but then they inadvertently awoken a like ah a dragon demon.
01:37:13
Speaker
that's not past life was a dragon demon? Maybe yeah maybe she was a dragon demon.
01:37:21
Speaker
She was like a... What's like the Iron Fist dragon?
01:37:26
Speaker
Fingfangfoon? Yeah. Yeah.
01:37:35
Speaker
yeah Anyway, yeah head head over to the site. We got all of our users up there. we got we We got news, reviews, trailers, regular podcasts. Check all that stuff over there.
