Hi guys, welcome to the Alien Anita podcast. I'm your host, Alien, and I'm so excited for you to join me for today's show. Guys, it is 2018 and I am so excited for year 2018. My goodness, we made it through 2017 and we are here. Happy, happy new year. I hope that your new year is all to a tremendous start and I hope that you are excited about
00:00:44
Speaker
everything that 2018 has to offer. If you are like me, you should already have your 2018 pretty much planned out. Maybe not to a T, but you have some goals that you set, maybe some New Year's resolutions that you have, and that is awesome. I really hope that you do, and if you don't have anything, take some time within the next week or two to kind of set the tone of your 2018 and make it happen.
The Power of Focus and Reducing Distractions
00:01:12
Speaker
So the first podcast off the gate I wanted to do was Focus on the Focus. The reason why I wanted to talk about this subject is because I know that several of us have already set goals and have goals in motion that we want to see happen in 2018. And so I read a couple of books in 2017 and I read a ton of articles about why focus is important.
00:01:39
Speaker
And I think that if you really want to be serious about accomplishing your goals this year, it's gonna require sharp and intense focus. That means you're gonna have to turn off your TV, unplug from social media,
00:01:54
Speaker
say no to friends and family, to hang out, you're gonna have to focus on what is important for you. So I think that this year is gonna be an extremely winning year for everybody that is focused and determined to reach their goals.
Vision and Goal Setting
00:02:11
Speaker
So before you start any adventure that you may have, whether it's losing weight, starting a business, whatever the case may be, you need to have a vision before you.
00:02:22
Speaker
Vision is so imperative for reaching goals. The reason why is because it puts you in focus of what's important. Sometimes we start a lot of things just to start things and hope that it turns out good. But if you don't have a focus, you'll wander and stray all over the place and forget why you're doing it in the first place.
00:02:47
Speaker
So you need to have a vision in place. So you need to give yourself time to think it out and dream it out and write it out. Even if it feels like a fantasy, dream out what you want to see and what your expectations is so that when it's time to put things in play, you can actually make your dreams come to pass.
Daily Goals and Motivation
00:03:09
Speaker
So the next thing you want to do after you have a vision in place is to set small little goals around it. Every single day you can do something that will bring you closer to your ultimate goal. So if you want to lose weight, you're not going to lose the weight that you want to lose overnight. It's going to take consistency, it's going to take the determination, dedication, and focus to get where you need to go.
00:03:33
Speaker
So every day, ask yourself, what can I do to make my dreams come to pass? What can I add to the mix that won't overcomplicate it, but will help me or aid me in getting to where I need to be next?
Automating Decisions for Mental Clarity
00:03:46
Speaker
Setting daily goals not only helps you get closer to your ultimate goal, but it also helps you stay motivated. Remember, there is power in the small.
00:03:56
Speaker
You win by taking one shot at a time. You get closer to your destination by taking it one step at a time. So remember when things get tough, just take it one chunk at a time. Another tip that I would like to offer you is to take the guessing work out of your day to day.
00:04:14
Speaker
Mark Zuckerberg, one of the most successful people on this earth, takes the guessing game out of his day-to-day by wearing the same exact thing every single day. Steve Jobs was known for this as well. He was famous for the black turtleneck, the blue jeans, and the new balance gym shoes. The reason why they put their day-to-day stuff on autopilot
00:04:37
Speaker
is so that their mind can be free though to think about the things that's important. If you want to win, focus is necessary. So if that means that you have to put your bills on auto pay so that you can focus on designing the next greatest toy, then do so. If that means that you have to meal prep at the beginning of the week to ensure you have your calories counted and you have snacks provided for every meal or whatever the case may be,
00:05:05
Speaker
You need to do whatever is going to ensure your success and optimize your focus.
Quality Decision-Making Tips
00:05:11
Speaker
I was watching a YouTube interview, which I'm going to link in the show notes, of a guy named Jim Quick. He talks about how the human brain can only process and really make so many quality decisions every single day.
00:05:27
Speaker
He discussed in this interview the importance of putting things on autopilot as much as you can so that when it's time for you to make high-pressure decisions or really important decisions, the mental capacity in your brain is freed up so that you will be able to make the best quality decisions.
00:05:46
Speaker
So if you're constantly deciding every hour on every day, then you're not going to make quality decisions. And by the time you get home from work and you probably ate good all day and then you get home and you have made so many decisions, you'll be like,
00:06:03
Speaker
I'm just going to grab some fast food and blow your whole diet or I'm just going to spend some cash real quick and ruin your budget.
Eliminating Distractions for Success
00:06:11
Speaker
You want to make sure that you do what you need to do to be successful by putting as many things on autopilot as you possibly can. The final tip that I want to offer you in stand focus is to scale back.
00:06:27
Speaker
I'm a gardener and one of my favorite tools in my gardening kit is my cutting shears. The reason why my cutting shears is my favorite tool is because it allows me to cut away anything that will stop me from producing good and quality fruit. You need to take some thinning shears and cut away at your life. The reason why is because there are things that you probably have that's distracting you or hindering you from reaching your goal. This can look like
00:06:56
Speaker
old friends that don't mean you any good, bad spending habits, bad eating habits. It's a host in a variety of things that could be attributing to the factor of you not being successful. So I want to encourage you in this new year to examine your life up against the goals that you've set to see what can you get rid of, what can you scale back from to ensure that you've reached success in whatever area that you've set out to reach success in.
00:07:26
Speaker
It's important in this year, as I've stated earlier in the podcast, that you spend your time focusing on what's important. And the way you do that is scale back what isn't. If these factors are not producing any fruit, you might need to cut back. If these factors are producing little to no fruit, you definitely need to cut back.
Determination for a Transformative Year
00:07:50
Speaker
because you want to invest all of your time and energy into the things that's going to help you produce fruit and help you ultimately reach your goal. 2018 I believe is the year where things are just going to change and shift immediately, but it's going to happen for the people that are focused and determined to get their goals reached.
00:08:12
Speaker
I hope this podcast helped you out and I hope that it is something to ignite the fire to get you going to get your goals off the ground.
