Greetings, you ghouls, goblins, ghasts and gargoyles.. it's finally time for The Blade's Edge to take their first heartbeats in an actual-play D&D adventure, the legendary module Curse of Strahd.
Our journey begins in the town of Daggerford, on the outskirts of Waterdeep, and you better believe Bryan sets the tone for our adventure straight away. It's gonna get gruesome, it's gonna be nasty, you might be a little queasy but it's okay! That's fine! Just have yourself a nice little barf or big scream and put those headphones back on. You'll be fine... but can we say the same about our players? Only the dice will tell...

A Blood-Red Moon and Eerie Happenings

Clouds obfuscating a full moon, a blood red moon. The stars are out and abundant.

You hear a howl as rain begins to pour down. We pan down to see dark trees, but from this narrative position, my narrative position, everything changes. A blood red moon becomes black and white, the world devoid of color. But our hearing is still sharp, and we hear a blood-curdling scream. We follow the sound of that scream flying over the woods to a body, laying at the edge of the trees, at the edge of a town. This desecrated corpse lays motionless as a thick fog licks at its body. It's not a fresh body. Chunks of this person's remains are torn out, the stench one of rotting flesh.

Inner Demons and Emotional Turmoil

Larger than any animal you could think of, maybe it's a bear, but it's different. There's more to this wound. There's more thought to this wound. We zoom in to see maggots inside this body. We see carrion feeders pecking out the eyes. About 15 feet away, we see two two wolves. fighting over the corpse's severed foot. It goes from the toes up about halfway to the shin, broken messily, snapped by sudden force. Maybe they fell while running from something to be running that fast and have that much pressure snap a bone. This person was scared. This person was running for their life. We leave that scene. We follow the road to town.

The trees here are barren. The fog is thick. The constant, heavy downpour of rain blurs our vision.

So we seek shelter and time slows to a crawl as we enter in through the first doorway we see. In that doorway, you notice a curved silver blade hangs along the wall. A similarly curved silvered ax leans against the door. You recognize that acts that type of tool as an ads. We hear a grunt. We look up from the boots to the blacksmith's apprentice as he frowns.

He raises his father's hammer above his head, the backside of the heirloom hammer caked in dried blood. The forge bellows, sweat drips off his forehead. On his downswing, he catches a glimpse of his family portrait over the door. He sees his father holding his shoulder and smiling, and he starts to regret what he did. But it's too late now. As the hammer strikes the anvil with more force than he anticipated, time resumes, but is it going faster? the The man's unbridled rage, his emotional unstable state makes it feel that way, but it's not. Time's moving normally. We exit backing out slowly, watching the man work, swinging his hammer.

He's 427 years old. He's got a scar across his right eye. He's seen a lot of things in a lot of places, a lot of people.

Yeah. Uh, my name's Gilman graves. I'm a five foot 10 stocky male tiefling with a skin of deep red brown, almost rich mahogany color. Uh, I have pointed horns that start thick at the base and curl around into a sharp pointed tip. They're gashed and jagged. Like they've been on the wrong end of an ax a few dozen times. My ears are long and pointed with numerous silver piercings. I have long hair that begins in three braids at the base of my forehead and runs back between my horns. My dark brown hair continues down to my mid back and the braids grow larger, but less kept. I have a cunning piercing brow and my eyes look tired, but focused. I have numerous scars across my face um and I have a medium beard with three braided corbs woven into it, extending from the tips of either side of my mustache down to the center of my chin.
