Conclusion of Elements of Success Series and Future Content

00:00:25
Speaker
If you have been following along with me, you know that I am in the middle of a series entitled Elements of Success, Things I Believe You Need in Order to Be Successful. And today is the finale of the Elements of Success
00:00:41
Speaker
series and it has been a blast doing the Elements of Success but I promise you guys I have some new information and a new series already lined up for you guys so I'm sure you're going to enjoy it as much as you did the Elements of Success.
00:00:56
Speaker
We have talked about so many different elements of success and I know that I did not barely scratch the surface of what success is and what are the elements that contribute, but I really wanted to touch on the elements that I felt like go overlooked so often.
00:01:15
Speaker
So I know you're probably thinking she could have talked about this and she didn't talk about that, but I really wanted to be strategic and talk about certain elements that I believe that really, really help people become successful that they don't know contributes to success.

Taking Leaps for Success

00:01:32
Speaker
So with that being said, today's final element is going to be taking leaps.
00:01:38
Speaker
Now, we all have heard about taking leaps or what I read in the article, they call it calculated risk. Taking leaps are inevitable. You have to take leaps if you want to be successful in anything in your life, whether you're going to start a new job, if you're going back to school, if you're going to start a company, you have to take leaps at some point in your life and it's necessary because leaps help you go from one place to the next.
00:02:07
Speaker
So you may have tons of reasons why you want to take a leap. You might be tired of your job, you have a cool business idea, or you're ready to go back and further your education. Those are all great reasons to take leaps, but they can't be the basis of why you take a leap. Before you take a leap, you need to have several things in order and make sure that your life is ready and aligned to take the leap that you are planning to take.

Loving and Excelling in Your Work

00:02:36
Speaker
So the first thing you wanna do is make sure that you love what you do. Don't go and take a leap just because you feel like you can get a job making more money. You're only gonna be a more wealthier, miserable person. And so many people hate their jobs and they make great money. Why? Because they took the leap into the wrong thing. So you wanna make sure that you absolutely love what you do.
00:03:01
Speaker
The second thing is you want to make sure that you're excellent at what you do. So you need to be able to do whatever it is in your sleep. So it needs to be something that you enjoy, but it also needs to be something that you can see yourself growing in, stretching in, and become an excellent in.

Stability at Home Before Taking Risks

00:03:19
Speaker
The third thing you wanna do is make sure that your household is taken care of. Whether it's your finances or your family if you have one, you wanna make sure that things are all together. When you take a leap, leaps are very risky and they can sometimes be very costly. So you wanna make sure that you have little to no debt if possible. You wanna make sure that you have about three to six months saved up and you wanna include your family on every step of the way if you have one.
00:03:49
Speaker
You want them to know that they are a part of this leap and you're doing it for them as well. So you need to clue them in on everything that's happening from start to finish. You want to make sure that you have a solid foundation to land on. So don't just jump off into the abyss of taking a leap and say, hey, I'm just going to do it because I'm passionate about it. You want to make sure that you're landing on a solid foundation. So you want to make sure if you're leaving your career to go to another, you have a good solid job.
00:04:18
Speaker
Or if you are making a leap from working for someone to working for yourself, you want to make sure that you have a good clientele base that is going to be regular and that you're going to have money in your pocket to keep a roof over your head. And if you have a family, keep a roof over their head as well.
00:04:37
Speaker
You know it's time to take a leap when you are no longer excellent at both things. So let's say for instance you are an employee and you have a business on the side and you're giving all of your energy, time, resources into your business and your work at your full-time job is slacking off. When you can no longer be excellent for your full-time job, it's time to let it go.
00:05:03
Speaker
and probably start to focus on becoming a full-time worker for yourself. You also want to make sure that you think things out completely. Don't just run, and now this is something for me that I always have to say, I have to tell myself, Elianna, you need to slow down.
00:05:23
Speaker
because I am such a doer. If I catch wind of something, I'm going to run and I want to do it. I'm not going to think much about it. I'm just going to do it because I feel the wind behind it. But sometimes you need to slow down and pace yourself so that you can have a full strategic plan right now that you can see things from start to finish. And sometimes, you know, you're not going to have all of the details, but at least you'll have something to start off with. So make sure you think things out and consider every option.
00:05:53
Speaker
You want to make sure that you consult wise counsel. You need to have a group of people in your life that will lovingly tell you the truth, that will tell you when you're off, that just won't be in your corner to say, yeah, I think that's a great idea. You should do it. You need to tell people, you need to talk to people that will challenge you in your perspective, challenge you in your ideas to make sure that you have thought these things out and that this will actually work for you.
00:06:19
Speaker
You want people to be in your corner that want you to be successful, but you also want people to be in your corner that will challenge you in every way. And the final thing you need to do is make sure that you research, know your stuff, make sure that you are the best in the business and that you know everything, the ins, the outs, the ups, the downs, the rounds and rounds or whatever. You want to make sure that you research, research, research as much as possible. Now, how do you take a leap?
00:06:48
Speaker
First

Preparing for Transition

00:06:49
Speaker
of all, you want to prepare everybody around you. So if you are resigning from your job, you want to make sure that the next person that's filling your spot knows everything, that there is no gaps or no missing parts once you leave. You want to leave your employer, whether you like them or not, in the best shape possible. You don't want to leave them kind of, you know, messed up or without or lacking because what if you have to come back?
00:07:16
Speaker
or what if you need someone to give you a letter of recommendation or what if you need to do business with them later on down the line. You want to always be known for being excellent and being sharp and even when they think about you departing that they always know that that person left us in the best predicament possible. So you want to make sure that everything is transparent, that if there's any documents that needs to be
00:07:39
Speaker
You know, if it's any sensitive information or documents that you have access to that they need, you need to make sure that they know if you have a certain way that you used to do things, make sure that you clue everybody in about what's going on. So make sure that you train up the next person. And if you have a family, get your family involved, get them ready, talk to them.
00:08:00
Speaker
from start to finish, tell them this is what I'm doing, this is how I'm doing it, this is why I'm doing it. Don't just make decisions without them, let them know, so prepare them for the leap and let them know how things will look for the family, how things will look for money, how everything will work out concerning you and your leap that you're

Strategic Planning and Execution

00:08:20
Speaker
taking.
00:08:20
Speaker
The second thing you want to do is live lean. Make sure that you cut back unnecessary expenses. So if you have a cable bill or you have a habit of going out or doing whatever, you want to make sure that you live lean for a little bit, just maybe for maybe a year or so until you can get on your feet and have a constant income coming in.
00:08:42
Speaker
The third thing you want to do is make sure that you strategically plan. Make sure you have a plan in place. Before you take any kind of leap, you need to know what you're going to do in the first year, the third year, and the fifth year, and have these things written out so that you can see it and you have a checklist that can hold you accountable.
00:09:04
Speaker
And the final thing is to execute. Like Nike's famous quote, just do it. You just have to do it. After you spent time planning and conversing with wise counsel and considering every option, you just have to do it. You never know what's on the other side of this leap until you actually take the leap.
00:09:26
Speaker
So don't be afraid, but also be wise when taking a leap. You want to make sure that you have all your ducks in the world and you are prepared as well as your family.
