Doom Asylum. A movie where the gore is cheap, the jokes are cheaper, and the killer looks like he wandered in from a dental malpractice lawsuit. It’s a slasher that feels like someone dared a film crew to make a horror‑comedy during their lunch break… and they said ‘bet.’

Welcome back to Deadnotes, the podcast where we dig up cult horror, dust it off, and scream into the mic until the neighbors call the cops. Today we’re heading straight into the cornfields—yeah, those endless rows of Midwest nightmare fuel—because we’re talking Children of the Corn. That’s right, the movie that taught us two things: never trust kids with biblical obsessions, and never, ever take a road trip through Nebraska without a backup plan.

Welcome to Deadnotes—the horror podcast that packs a flashlight, forgets the bug spray, and always dies first in the canoe.

Tonight, we’re pitching our tent in the blood-soaked woods of Sleepaway Camp, the 1983 slasher that asks: what if summer camp had fewer s’mores and more trauma?

We’ve got it all—awkward teens, crop tops tighter than the plot, and a twist ending that made VHS players across America pause in stunned silence. Seriously, if you know, you know. If you don’t… buckle up, buttercup.

We’ll roast the kills, toast the tropes, and dig into the behind-the-scenes madness that turned this low-budget oddball into a cult classic with one of horror’s most infamous final shots.

So grab your whistle, dodge the curling iron, and remember: at Camp Arawak, the counselors are sketchy, the cook is worse, and the lake is just one big murder magnet.

This is Deadnotes. Let’s get weird.

This 1987 splatter-comedy fever dream is what happens when you take a dash of H.G. Lewis, a pinch of vegan cannibalism, and a whole lot of neon-lit absurdity, then toss it in a blender with a brain and hit purée. Directed by Jackie Kong, Blood Diner isn’t just a spiritual sequel to Blood Feast—it’s a full-on punk rock exorcism of genre norms, packed with wrestling, brain burgers, and a goddess named Sheetar who’s got a serious hunger for human flesh.

So grab your meat cleaver, crank up the synths, and prepare for a deep dive into one of the most gloriously unhinged horror comedies ever served. This is Deadnotes, and tonight... we dine in blood. 🍔🩸

Happy Halloween!

This week, our brave (and increasingly drunk) hosts attempt to unpack the sweaty subtext, scream-worthy set pieces, and baffling dance sequences of this cult sequel—armed only with questionable cocktails and a deep love for horror oddities. Expect tangents, slurred trivia, and a lot of “Wait, what just happened?” as Freddy claws his way into the party.

So light your jack-o’-lantern, pour something strong, and join us for a hilariously haunted deep dive into one of the most divisive entries in the Elm Street saga. Happy Halloween, you sick little dream warriors. Let’s get weird. 🕷️🍸🔪

Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (100% ABV)

Today, we’re rolling into Grover’s Bend with a basket of Easter eggs and a whole lot of hungry furballs. That’s right—we’re chomping into Critters 2, the 1988 sequel that said, “What if Gremlins had teeth, multiplied like rabbits, and crashed your holiday brunch?”

We’ll dig into the film’s bonkers practical effects, the return of bounty hunter fan-favorites, and a giant critter-ball!. Plus, we’ll unpack the movie’s campy charm, its place in the New Line horrorverse, and why it deserves more love in the creature-feature canon.

So grab your chocolate bunny, lock your fridge, and let’s get rolling—because the Krites are back, and they’re not here for the eggs.

🔪 Let’s crack this one open.

Critters 2: The Main Course 1988

This episode, we’re diving headfirst into When Evil Lurks, the Argentinian shockwave that’s been haunting festival circuits and rattling seasoned horror fans. It’s a film that asks: what happens when possession isn’t a secret battle of wills, but a contagion—spreading like disease, infecting the land, and warping the rules of survival?

Today we’re diving headfirst into a blood-splattered rabbit hole of censorship, sanity, and splatter with the 1995 Swedish cult gem: Evil Ed.

This isn’t your average slasher flick. It’s a meta-horror fever dream where a mild-mannered film editor is tasked with sanitizing gore-soaked horror movies for public consumption… only to lose his grip on reality and go full psycho. Think Videodrome meets The Evil Dead, but with a Scandinavian twist and a whole lot of absurdity.

Evil Ed 1995

Today we’re peeling back the scorched layers of one of the strangest, most genre-bending entries in early '90s horror: Darkman (1990), directed by none other than Sam Raimi.

Before Raimi had Spider-Man swinging through New York, he gave us Peyton Westlake—a brilliant scientist turned disfigured vigilante, played with tragic fury by Liam Neeson. Burned alive, left for dead, and reborn through experimental science, Westlake becomes the titular Darkman: a creature of rage, synthetic skin, and unstable identity. It’s part Frankenstein, part Phantom of the Opera, and all Raimi chaos.

Welcome to Deadnotes, tonight we’re diving headfirst into the surreal, unhinged world of Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy. This 1996 cult classic from the Canadian comedy troupe takes a sharp left turn into a bizarre, satirical nightmare—a pill-popping dystopia that’s equal parts hilarious and horrifying. Is it a comedy? A horror? A fever dream? Grab your glowsticks and your questionable prescriptions, because we’re about to unpack the madness. Let’s get weird.

Deadnotes is the horror and cult film podcast where Allen and Kevin—two lifelong gore nerds with questionable taste in beverages—grab a drink and dive headfirst into the movies that made them weird. From low-budget slashers to high-concept fever dreams, they serve up hot takes, cold drinks, and enough trivia to make your local video store clerk rise from the grave. It’s like hanging out with your funniest horror-obsessed friends… if your friends were slightly tipsy and deeply haunted by the 1980s.
