On my return from podcasting hiatus, it's a quck one for the coaches out there. Focus on how you can help your people, not the other way around.

Not my best work, good to bang the rust off in any case!

Podcast Reintroduction & Accessibility

Jarrod Dyke
Hello again, everyone. Welcome to the first 15 performance coaching cast. It's been a minute since I've done this. It was the holidays. It was a lot of things. But in any case, I'm back and I'm trying to get back into this as a regular thing. So for this week, don't forget that if you're listening to this, you can find this anywhere

Diverse Health & Fitness Perspectives

00:00:19
Jarrod Dyke
you get your podcasts. So ah sort for this week, I wanted to just touch touch a little bit on um And, you know, this is where I tend to, for those of the of you that are new to this, this is where I tend to just spin a yarn about all things health, fitness, whether it's from a client's perspective, or from a coaching perspective, or just general fads, or, you know, reacting to crap that's gone on into in in the fitness world, and in the strength conditioning world.

Coaching Focus: Client Needs vs. Personal Interests

00:00:46
Jarrod Dyke
ah For this week, it's nothing necessarily reactionary. It's more um just kind of a mindset for
00:00:53
Jarrod Dyke
coaches out there because obviously this is a huge time for people to get into their fitness and, you know, hopefully you're not of the same mindset, like certain popular mega gym is and telling people to pound Sam because they want to start their new year's real resolution in January rather than February. um Anyway, not the point. But for our coaches out there, I want everyone to just kind of keep in mind I've seen I've seen it too often, where coaches are too interested or personal trainers are too interested in what their clients can do for them or what they want to do. And it's not it's not a good mindset. It's really, it's really problematic in a lot of ways. so um ah I just see it too often where coaches are stuck in
00:01:52
Jarrod Dyke
um doing things a certain way. And I've, and I've been guilty of that. So I'm not going to sit here and tell you that I've never done it. It's a mistake that

Flexibility in Coaching Programs

00:01:59
Jarrod Dyke
I've made. And really the point of this is I want to make sure that someone else doesn't make the same stupid mistake I did or the same stupid mistakes I did. And one of them is just getting too caught up in, um, either one getting, you know, doing the things you want to do for with the client, because do you think they're cool or because, um,
00:02:21
Jarrod Dyke
You know, that's how it is or in your head. There's a point to that. Like it's building blocks. It's not, yeah, it's not, you know, set in stone either. Like it's a, it's a general scheme. You know, for me, I know it's the same thing. It's a general scheme. I usually have people doing power apply metrics early on, and then they're doing some sort of, uh, major, um, compound movement, and then they're doing accessories or or finisher after that, depending on what their time.
00:02:51

timeframe is. And really, even recently, I've had days and and people that needed to have their programs altered for one reason or another. And it's just about being more flexible as a coach and a trainer to help the person. And yeah, you know, do they know best 100%? No, probably not, because you're more knowledgeable and you know how to do it. But there's still certain things where if people come to you and say, I want this.
00:03:20
Jarrod Dyke
It's, it's at least up to you to have the conversation with them and not just say no, or to say, to say, yeah, which, is which is this is way worse so to say yes, and then not do it at all and do your own thing anyway.

Centering on Client Success

00:03:32
Jarrod Dyke
So that's one part of it. And then the other part of it being, you know, we're thinking about, I guess it's more financially than anything. Like what are these clients going to do for me? Or what are the,
00:03:45
Jarrod Dyke
While if you're a really quality coach, um your clients obviously should help you if you truly do help them. Really, it's got to come, you know, the chicken and the egg thing. I can tell you that what comes first for the most successful and for the best coaches and trainers out there is worrying about what you can do for the client first. How can you help them? Making sure that they're the center of the attention. They're the star.
00:04:14
Jarrod Dyke
you I think I've talked about before the, you know, the hero and and and the guide. We are not, we are not the hero. Um, thank you, Donald Miller. Um, we're not the hero they are. So it's all about them. What can you do to help them? How can you help them? And if you crush that and, and help them to the best of your ability and make this a,
00:04:39
Jarrod Dyke
you knock this out of the part and you just coach the hell out of them and they're and they just hit all their goals and they feel amazing, then they will help you in

Building Reciprocal Relationships

00:04:48

return. It's a guarantee. And I've seen it over and over again. And sometimes it's a matter of asking, but really if you can do your job a hundred percent to your ability and make sure that you are focusing on the Clients first and foremost and worrying about what they what you can do for them and making sure that's the mindset you walk into every session with and every um You know every new assessment or every goal-saying session. I assume this is what most people are starting with um Starting their their training with if you walk into every One of those with the mindset of what am I gonna do to help this person? Today the next month the next year so on so forth
00:05:35
Jarrod Dyke
then them helping you will be a no brainer. It'll come right back to you very, very quickly.

Closing Thoughts & Listener Engagement

00:05:41
Jarrod Dyke
And they'll be, they'll do it tenfold because they're so, they feel so great and because they're so, so thankful. And so, um, trying to think of the word, um, they're just so, they're, they just feel so, um,
00:06:00
Jarrod Dyke
sorry, spacing on the word. Anyway, not the point. Um, I won't, I won't hit on that too long. Uh, but point being is, the Your clients will pay you back tenfold if you do your job to the utmost of your ability and make sure that they feel like they're the show they're the star they're the hero and Anything else is irrelevant. Even if even if you train in I chair this in a semi-private environment so that might sound hard, but if you make sure that they're they're cared for the most, and they feel cared for the most and not, um you know, you're not thinking about what you're doing later on that day or anything like that, and you're just focusing on your people, then all that stuff about you know, what they can do for you will get taken care of yourself and you won't even need to think about it and
00:06:50
Jarrod Dyke
Eventually the mindset will, that type of mindset will just leave you completely. So those are my thoughts for today. I just wanted to get something out there real quick. Um, I appreciate everyone that listens to this and has, uh, given me any feedback. It's welcome. Um, make sure that you follow me over on Instagram and, uh, thank you very much everyone. Have a good day.
