Jarrod Dyke: Hey everybody, welcome back. It is the Fantasy Rugby Yanks. My name is Jared Dyke.
Grumpy Old Prop: I'm Ben Glauser.
Jarrod Dyke: Let's go. we got lots to do. Well, not lots to do, but we do have some discussion topics which tend to take us a lot longer to get through than the games.
Grumpy Old Prop: I don't know. we We tend to fill up the time.
Jarrod Dyke: A little too well.
Grumpy Old Prop: Neither of us are, you know, despite of the fact that neither of us are terribly opinionated about anything. and
Jarrod Dyke: Never happened.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Never happened.
Grumpy Old Prop: No.
Jarrod Dyke: rearrange myself like an idiot here there we go um yeah sure that you find us on your favorite podcast app share download rate review all that good stuff
Grumpy Old Prop: Good luck with that.
Grumpy Old Prop: Chad, wash your hands.
Jarrod Dyke: ah that's not the rearranging i was doing
Grumpy Old Prop: ah I didn't. taal Oh, well, we'll have to agree to disagree. um
Jarrod Dyke: Uh, shit. ah Make sure you buy our good friend George, the fancier rugby geek, a a coffee or beer. Man's been hard at work all year long. If you haven't bought him one of those things yet, yeah it this is your this is your signal to go do so.
Jarrod Dyke: Like, now. Like, stop, the hit pause, and go and go do that, okay? Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: I'm going to do that the first payday I get or the next payday I get.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: That's how I feel about that.
Jarrod Dyke: so That's, yeah, that's valid. That is valid. um
Jarrod Dyke: There is no discrimination here on this podcast, nor should there be in sports or in life. While, you know, what what has occurred here in the U.S. is not, you know, discrimination.
Jarrod Dyke: Discrimination is political. So, and life is political.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: So everyone's like, I don't get i don't get involved in politics.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: That's privilege right there. Congratulations. You are you have now shown your privilege. Good for you.
Grumpy Old Prop: right
Jarrod Dyke: um But we had a really fucked up incident here in the US where we had um saying Senator shot and killed. And then another one was um put in the hospital as well.
Jarrod Dyke: Like, good Lord.
Grumpy Old Prop: And the the woman, um the state senator, her her husband was shot too he and and killed.
Jarrod Dyke: That's right.
Grumpy Old Prop: So like, and then not only that, but they were like the third or fourth house he went to that night. And like, yeah, it was funny because what we were talking, we were talking about.
Jarrod Dyke: This dude was trying for harm, for sure.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, he was. Yeah, yes. He was deliberately going to kill as many Democrats as he could because. What the fuck? Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: When
Grumpy Old Prop: any like ah you know we when we were talking about this for this segment, I was like, well, I mean, this isn't really no description. i'm Like, oh, wait, the guy's a white supremacist. Because again, all... you know That far-right element who would do such a thing is they're white supremacists. That's like, oh, yeah, I forgot. I actually learned who he was and we we know kind of what he's about. Yes.
Grumpy Old Prop: Crazy fucking dude.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: and But that's like normalized in our society to the point where... like
Jarrod Dyke: Mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: you know I remember back the the um
Grumpy Old Prop: in the BLM protests, the the George Floyd protests, why we kind of started this segment. um and There was all this cue and cry about like you know, the violence, the political violence. We can't let this is violent.
Grumpy Old Prop: It's like, here's some political violence and nobody really like in the mainstream, like it's not a thing. Like Democrats, national Democrats aren't really saying much about it other than than, you know, this was wrong. And it's like, fuck, that's all you're going give these people.
Grumpy Old Prop: Like no wonder they keep coming for you because you don't have a spine. um So that's what we're fucking, you know, we're fucking stuck with here is murderous white nationalists versus, know, um literally the um was it the committee from The Good Place, um which was literally based on the Democrats, and they really do a good job of portraying them.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: Like, we'll get on it in a thousand years. Like, no, dude, we need shit now. um You know, and that's kind of part of no discrimination. We're still seeing, you know, at all levels of our government, some fucked up shit, no matter who we elect.
Jarrod Dyke: Hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: We need to get smarter about that.
Jarrod Dyke: That would be wise.
Grumpy Old Prop: but And soon soon.
Jarrod Dyke: Throwing ideas out there.
Grumpy Old Prop: Soonish would be better.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. Sooner rather than later, please.
Jarrod Dyke: um Yeah, if you are one of our patrons, thank you very much. We do appreciate you, but if you don't need to go get our Patreon anymore. You can wait until next year.
Jarrod Dyke: It's okay.
Grumpy Old Prop: wait Wait till next year. Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, wait until we come around to the season in and the the World Cup in the fall here.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: That's okay.
Grumpy Old Prop: Ooh.
Jarrod Dyke: so Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: All let's do do other things um before we get into the games.
Jarrod Dyke: Lions have named their first team of the year with some guys obviously left out because they were competing last weekend, which is probably the wisest decision we can go with.
Jarrod Dyke: um But a strong squad for the most part. um
Grumpy Old Prop: I like it. there's not There's not much to not like about it um outside of the hooker position, which, I mean, nothing wrong with Ron Keller. Sorry. ah The starting hooker position.
Jarrod Dyke: The starting hooker, yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: um I don't...
Jarrod Dyke: and I think we can do without Daly there as well, but you know.
Grumpy Old Prop: Could, but at the same time, you look at that squad. mean, he's, but he did play pretty well down the stretch for salaries too. So like, and especially as a center, he's not going to, he's not going to go in as a, he's not replacing Marcus Smith. That's for damn sure.
Grumpy Old Prop: Not watch that actually happen. Um, but I, yeah, I, I think he's still fun.
Jarrod Dyke: No, the more likely thing is Hanson comes on and Freeman goes back.
Grumpy Old Prop: It's going to be fun at center. Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: So yeah, no, I mean with Marcus Smith at that fullback, that's obviously the, your 10 replacement should Finn Smith, you know, have an issue or falter or whatever.
Grumpy Old Prop: Um,
Jarrod Dyke: Um, yeah, I mean, I mean, love the combination of Bundy and Tupelo That's great.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yup. That's going to be like thunder and thunder.
Jarrod Dyke: Um,
Grumpy Old Prop: And then the lightning on the outside. Like that's, I like the construction of this. I like every, like where the pieces are. I actually like them for where they fit again, aside from Luke Cowan Dickey.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, wouldn't be shocked if Morrow and Burn are the starting locks in the tests.
Grumpy Old Prop: i I can't really argue with that.
Jarrod Dyke: So keep eyes on them.
Grumpy Old Prop: I mean, you know, there's this other i know there's other players, but at the same time...
Jarrod Dyke: There's other possibilities by far, but ah for me, that's my favorite pair right there.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. And to me, I don't know. like you know Obviously, Tom Curry at six, I love it. I think that's perfect. I like that that Jack Morgan playing a ah six and a half.
Grumpy Old Prop: who can he can He is somewhat useful in attack, which makes him better than either Curry. But then you're going to bring Henry...
Jarrod Dyke: I'm sure he'll look way better in this attack than he did in the...
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: He looked pretty good in the Welsh attack, and we know how faulty that was. So um'm I'm sure he's going to look way better.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right. And then you're going to put then he put Henry Pollock on for him.
Jarrod Dyke: Oh, man, I cannot wait to see that. That's going amazing.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Yes, please sign me up.
Grumpy Old Prop: um Alex Mitchell and then Thomas Williams, like that's that's been box office this year, both of them.
Jarrod Dyke: It's a nice combo, yeah. Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: like There's just up and down the lineup, ah too much to like to love. And got you got one jag in there, it happens.
Grumpy Old Prop: i think they're But at the same time, I i also i heard a he's that Luke Cowendickie is just like ah great guy to be around. So I think he made the tour more for his his off-the-field exploits um and and activities then than just on the field. um Certainly than just on the field.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. Well, you know, um, the
Jarrod Dyke: the And then Van Portfleet got called in.
Grumpy Old Prop: Where's that being broadcast by the way, in the U S
Jarrod Dyke: I don't know, actually. um like I got a guess, but I don't want to say it.
Grumpy Old Prop: it's probably flow.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, didn't want to speak it into the universe.
Jarrod Dyke: um Van Portfleet got called into the squad to train while Gibson Park picks up. It sounds like it's just a little a little bang.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: it's not It shouldn't be too much for him, but you could do worse than Van Portfleet as well, so.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, I like that a lot. um Yeah, and Van Porto looked great in the finals despite, you know, the loss.
Grumpy Old Prop: He did. i saw someone with I saw someone with a hot take about... um
Grumpy Old Prop: Lester didn't start playing well until Youngs came in. And I was like...
Grumpy Old Prop: That doesn't sound right.
Jarrod Dyke: Huh?
Grumpy Old Prop: Who scored the first try? like
Jarrod Dyke: GBP.
Grumpy Old Prop: um yeah And I remember it being pretty good. Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: we did We definitely did. You definitely you and i definitely didn't watch the same gig, whoever that was.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right. I thought that but I was, you know, and maybe that's I don't know if it was sarcasm or whatnot, but.
Jarrod Dyke: Clearly.
Grumpy Old Prop: um
Jarrod Dyke: Can only hope so.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, because it's like, no, that he played really well and, you know.
Jarrod Dyke: Jesus.
Grumpy Old Prop: Didn't help that like Montoya. I don't know what the hell got into him, what he ate for breakfast, but it was not. It wasn't as Wheaties. It was something more dark and angry.
Jarrod Dyke: um yeah um
Grumpy Old Prop: Because like he was he like he was like to me, ah like obviously, ah certainly out of character. Well, mostly attic mostly out of character. I thought he was a little bit ill-disciplined and crabby and and really like way too angry, not like focused on Toja. And I think that really affected the the Tigers and how they were operating. Because when your your captain loses his head a little bit,
Grumpy Old Prop: um
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, that can be bad.
Grumpy Old Prop: they can be bad.
Jarrod Dyke: Yep. No argument on me. um Other news happening around the... The world's here. ah There is Oops, come on.
Jarrod Dyke: Lawrence has named his... 32-player pool for the July series. I assume this is not to go into...
Grumpy Old Prop: Oh, yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: the Pacific nations though. So I'll, I'll take that little bit with me in when I look at this team, because first of all, who was the worst team in and MLR this year?
Grumpy Old Prop: I hope not.
Grumpy Old Prop: Wasn't that the um Nola?
Jarrod Dyke: Nope.
Grumpy Old Prop: Were they not? No.
Jarrod Dyke: Nope.
Grumpy Old Prop: Oh, it was. a um
Jarrod Dyke: Same division.
Grumpy Old Prop: Was it the.
Jarrod Dyke: Nope.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, the anthem.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, there's six Anthem players in the 32.
Grumpy Old Prop: want
Jarrod Dyke: Way too many.
Grumpy Old Prop: I don't really want.
Jarrod Dyke: Way too many.
Grumpy Old Prop: Well, OK, to be fair, two of them are Free Jacks players who are just now we we absolutely know stuck on that shitty team that's given them nothing.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. And Dull is the other another one, so, but like...
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: who came from Dallas after they folded. So really, I understand three of them are not legit anthem players, but like Pittman is concerning...
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, but still, I'm not like a Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: But they're still... Wouldn't they have... Well, yeah, they work they did come in... Even when the Freejacks were playing Anthem, like neither Mitch or Toby looked like they were when they played with Freejacks.
Jarrod Dyke: No.
Grumpy Old Prop: They're just not...
Jarrod Dyke: Storty's probably the only one that I'm excited about because I've seen him do other things elsewhere and at ah at a big level.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: So i'm I can live with him. And then obviously the other guys that came in from other teams. It's like, alright, that's fine.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: But at the same time, like... ah Are we picking on... I thought we were picking on form here, which... I can't imagine the form of those three is that good.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: and Which means we're just picking on... you know, previous bias really is what it comes down to.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: And i can get you in trouble. can think of a few guys that got into trouble once or three times, you know?
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. I mean, I'm looking at it. Iskero. Yeah. He's, he's there. He's, he's always going to be there. He's a young quality prop. He's never going to, I need them to play Geiger more. And I know they're trying to use him as kind of a hybrid, but I need them to play Geiger more than,
Jarrod Dyke: The dude is great in space and the free jacks aren't playing him that much, unfortunately either, but that's a message to both teams really like get that man into space and get things will happen.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yes, agreed.
Jarrod Dyke: Um, I like the inclusion of Klein, former Crusaders guy, obviously playing with Legion now, but also think they were the last place team in the West. Oops. Um,
Jarrod Dyke: yeah oops
Grumpy Old Prop: and I mean, but Pifflet is the stuff kind of locked in starter.
Jarrod Dyke: um
Grumpy Old Prop: So.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, he's probably not. I'm happy to not see Fawcett on that list. And I know he's in the the broader non-traveling squad, but there's a lot of guys on that list that I, on the broader non-tavali squad, that could just never, ever put it on a U.S.
Grumpy Old Prop: hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: jersey and again, and it would be okay.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, I think.
Jarrod Dyke: Nothing nothing bad would happen.
Grumpy Old Prop: No, I think they're like break glass in case of emergency, obviously.
Jarrod Dyke: Hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: And like, it's even this team.
Grumpy Old Prop: It's not a it's not a very good, but you know, to your to your point, though, it's not a very good MLR team.
Jarrod Dyke: No. No, no, no. We were just talking about that before we hit the record button.
Grumpy Old Prop: Like they're not the not great, like even I'm. I don't know, for found on a Schultz.
Jarrod Dyke: Nah. Pass.
Grumpy Old Prop: Was it go like was a ghost this year?
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, I... While DC beat the Free Jacks twice, I don't remember seeing him a ton.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right. he wasn't He wasn't the one doing it.
Jarrod Dyke: You know.
Grumpy Old Prop: So, yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Daniel was a pain in the ass. I'll give him that.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: and there and you know i'm And I'm one that will always bitch about age. For the most part, the guys I'm thinking are like, are they yeah are how old are they?
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: are I don't see anybody here that's not capped that's like 30 plus. I mean, no Oscar London is just criminal.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: It is kind of criminal.
Jarrod Dyke: like And even in the wider squad, he's not included. I i don't get... you' bill
Grumpy Old Prop: Especially, i i don't... DeHaas, similarly...
Jarrod Dyke: I can live with DeHaas because he's been there.
Grumpy Old Prop: i don't...
Jarrod Dyke: He's done that. And he's been been playing for the Eagles for a long time.
Grumpy Old Prop: He's been there, but but... Yeah, but it's... He's not on form.
Jarrod Dyke: No, he's not.
Grumpy Old Prop: Let's put it that way.
Jarrod Dyke: You're you're right about that. But if we're talking about the most talented guys, he's he hits the top.
Grumpy Old Prop: He's not a good MLR scrum half right now.
Jarrod Dyke: um
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. But still, I'd take Lennon over him. Lennon's been playing pretty damn well, too, for the Freejacks.
Jarrod Dyke: Right. Did y'all not see the fucking NOLA game the other week?
Grumpy Old Prop: Although, maybe...
Jarrod Dyke: Like, what the hell?
Grumpy Old Prop: maybe, don't know, is this because he's still still playing?
Jarrod Dyke: No, because there's still free jacks that have been picked.
Grumpy Old Prop: Is it potentially like they might add more free? Yeah, there's just a one, but I mean, i don't know. I'm just wondering if they might add players after the the finals.
Jarrod Dyke: Maybe. But, I mean, there are other players involved this weekend that they've picked as well.
Grumpy Old Prop: Because i don't see...
Jarrod Dyke: so
Grumpy Old Prop: i see one hounds, two, three hounds.
Jarrod Dyke: There's a few on the broader squad as well.
Grumpy Old Prop: Okay. Oh, I'm just looking at the traveling. the ah Okay, there's the non-traveling reserves.
Jarrod Dyke: the wall kid needs to be flipped into that, into that, um, into that squad. Honestly, you could do it for, for a wall, the young kid for the hounds.
Grumpy Old Prop: Who does?
Jarrod Dyke: Um, you could do it for Mitchie, honestly, as much as I love him.
Grumpy Old Prop: Sean McNulty. That cracks me up. That name cracks me up because it's ah in in the wire. One of ah Detective McNulty's kids is named Sean. So.
Jarrod Dyke: Sean. Yep. What did I do? but um Yeah, I have concern. yeah know, Helsenbeck is the 10. And has he been playing 10 that much for them? I guess so. But damn.
Jarrod Dyke: ah Also, like, Caceres is not an 8. He was playing Locke for Miami this past weekend. Like, ah i I have lots of questions.
Grumpy Old Prop: And not terribly well.
Jarrod Dyke: No. No, that game didn't go well. I know if anybody watched. We'll talk about later. But, yeah, they go really well for a lot of them.
Grumpy Old Prop: We did.
Jarrod Dyke: um Yeah, I have, you know, there's some parts that excite me. And I know, and and and because I know they're fairly young and yeah we're talking about building towards 31 and yes, 27, we should, we damn well better qualify because otherwise, yeah, 31 kind of a pie in sky idea for what they're saying they want to accomplish.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: But I have concerns. Lots of them.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, I don't know. i I still have questions over Scott Lawrence's vision. And, you know, if they give him the full reign all the way till 31 he cocks this up, he's going to owe a lot of people an explanation.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, Yeah, that's the thing.
Jarrod Dyke: And so will the remainder of U.S. rugby. Let's put that way. Let's also keep that in mind. Like, this is not just him at the top.
Grumpy Old Prop: and it's It's a lot of that, too.
Jarrod Dyke: This is, there's a lot of things going on otherwise.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, it's not that simple, but at the same time, like, there is enough.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: there At this point, like, you know, looking at that that squad, it's not that they're not talented. It's just that they're not that good. And, like, to me, if you have talent and you've been playing for, like,
Grumpy Old Prop: Like, take... um You know, we'll come talk about it later, but... um The... Shit, what's the name? The 15 for the Freejacks.
Jarrod Dyke: Brock.
Grumpy Old Prop: Webster. Yeah. um It took him a little bit to get acclimated, and he was pretty pretty poor early on for the Freejacks, but then it clicked, and now, fuck, he's been amazing the last couple of weeks.
Jarrod Dyke: Mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: Gotta try taking away from him this week. Like, he... When it clicks, it clicks. What's going on with the coaching of USA Rugby that we can get much more talented players, much more players who are like quality athletes, not just much more, but you know, it's not just quantity, but quality players or quality athletes who could play rugby a little bit.
Grumpy Old Prop: But they're just dumb or they don't really know how to play on a a team at that level. And I don't get it. should just does that should be That should be the easy part
Jarrod Dyke: No.
Grumpy Old Prop: At this point, and it's still that that's what they're struggling with. So, yeah, I i kind of pin that, you know, a little bit on USA Rugby, but but also a lot on the the coach, because he's got to be working with. and MLR and club and college collegiate coaches to to get the players ready better than they're doing.
Jarrod Dyke: Mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: and
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. Yeah. And I think.
Jarrod Dyke: USA Rugby CEO can really put um can put there, put a limb out there for themselves, too, because this is going to be.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: um What's his name? Young. That's his last name. I don't remember his first name, but yeah. Anyway, he can.
Jarrod Dyke: I
Jarrod Dyke: know. don't remember who it is. Doesn't matter. my brain My brain's gone. um But it doesn't matter. um He can kind of put
Jarrod Dyke: yeah put a limb out there for himself if he if this if this project also doesn't go well for himself because there's a lot of things that... um
Jarrod Dyke: that he's kind of put onto this and just, and like, think about the structure of us rugby and what is feeding the top right now. And it is MLR. What's feeding the MLR teams.
Grumpy Old Prop: Exactly.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, we, we, we have MLR.
Grumpy Old Prop: Like what? Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Wonderful. This is great. Ben, I go to almost every game and we enjoy ourselves. This is what we were hoping for from a, you from ah a structure standpoint.
Jarrod Dyke: what's below that and i can tell you personally from what i know at least at the age group that's the most ripe you know and and and um with the most potential and that is the u19s i can tell you for a fact there's one coach that knows what the fuck they're doing and the rest don't at least for the free jacks so that's terrifying
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, right. Like they should get, and like they should have actual, actual professional coaches. Because yes, I also know some of the coaches think for the, and in you know, the ladies independence.
Jarrod Dyke: Yep.
Grumpy Old Prop: And it's like, it's, it's a, it's unfortunately jokeful.
Jarrod Dyke: Mm-hmm. Same idea.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. Well, one of the Junior Jacks, a la the Academy for the but Free Jacks, one of the coaches for the high school team, you and I coached against a few weeks ago.
Jarrod Dyke: And um it wasn't good.
Grumpy Old Prop: No, no.
Jarrod Dyke: It wasn't good. And that was with that was with us taking off a bunch of guys too.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right. Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: So, yeah, that's bad news.
Grumpy Old Prop: Guys had a while to build a program too. So it's yeah, not good.
Jarrod Dyke: That's not good. That's not good at all. um So anyway, and you know, obviously I have a couple of boys that are playing for them the last couple of years and
Grumpy Old Prop: You had like one of your players came up to me after. um ah think it was the the semi.
Jarrod Dyke: Probably the quarterfinal two weeks ago.
Grumpy Old Prop: And said,
Grumpy Old Prop: Oh, because I wasn't... No, I thought I missed the quarterfinal.
Jarrod Dyke: You weren't at the semifinal. No, you missed the semi.
Grumpy Old Prop: I was at the semi. I missed the semi?
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, you missed the semi.
Grumpy Old Prop: Okay, then it must have been quarterfinal. um
Grumpy Old Prop: He comes up to me as like, you know, I'd love to play for the Eagles. It's like, that that's my goal. I'm like, there's nothing really, there's nothing stopping you. Like you're going to work.
Grumpy Old Prop: Like, don't get me wrong.
Jarrod Dyke: Oh, and yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: But like, I've seen the people who make it there and you're, you know, you're, you already have an advantage over a lot of the people who, you know, a lot of people, cause he's been playing for a couple years for you.
Grumpy Old Prop: And it's like, you know, that, that was a discussion that Jess and I would have regularly about, you know, was it worth doing that work for that team? and It wasn't before, but it might be now.
Jarrod Dyke: but back then now it could be yeah well you have a and you have the path to get to MLR now and and and WER and so on and so forth which is way better than what it was when you know when you and you know when we were here thinking about that shit 10-15 years ago big difference now
Grumpy Old Prop: So it's like, yes, go like, Now it could be because it's like, yeah, if he wants to play in 2031. Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right. It was like, yeah, there's no there's no reward. Like it's all risk, and no reward. And now there's a little bit of a reward, but um you still got to do the work.
Jarrod Dyke: yep so i don't know we'll see TBD as it were um they play Belgium, Spain and and England obviously a depowered England
Jarrod Dyke: July 19th in DC oh yeah it'll still be a really good England team don't doubt that don't doubt that
Grumpy Old Prop: And I say fuck.
Jarrod Dyke: ah Why are they playing two of them in Charlotte?
Grumpy Old Prop: Speaking of England.
Jarrod Dyke: Ugh, come on, guys.
Grumpy Old Prop: That's where the anthem are cause they're supposed to be the.
Jarrod Dyke: Ugh, stupid people. Yeah, ceo ah CEO of USA Rugby, you're already fucking up, I hate to tell you.
Grumpy Old Prop: ah National feeder team. Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Ugh, gross. Anywho, let's talk about other games, shall we?
Grumpy Old Prop: Yes, please. I started, but then jumped the gun.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, you were all excited about it.
Grumpy Old Prop: the The that we the ah agenda is unclear. We added two things after the agenda was finalized. and
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: Obviously, I didn't get the timing of them.
Jarrod Dyke: Oopsie daisies. That's okay. That's okay.
Grumpy Old Prop: So...
Jarrod Dyke: um Yeah, so anyway, let's go... yeah let's go to the Twix. To London. And... Yeah, I mean...
Jarrod Dyke: i In a way, I have i feel for Leicester. They scored three tries.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah,
Jarrod Dyke: Bath only got two. And Leicester really worked their way down there for all three. I think it's fair to say. um
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah they didn't get any easy ones, certainly.
Jarrod Dyke: No. no And yeah know the Ojo-Mojo try it was all off the Finner intercept.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: But at the same time,
Jarrod Dyke: Mistakes were made by Lester. Um, Montoya was probably lucky that he came back.
Grumpy Old Prop: Certainly.
Jarrod Dyke: I think the dynamic, dynamic tackle little area saved him on that one. I think if he was one-on-one with that guy, yep, that's the, you, you, you, that would have been the end of Julian Montoya as a tiger.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: And that would have been a shitty ending for him.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: would have felt bad.
Grumpy Old Prop: They saved that first for a different tiger.
Jarrod Dyke: Hmm. Hmm. Yep. Yep. Uh-huh.
Grumpy Old Prop: Coley going off for a yellow with like 10 minutes to go.
Jarrod Dyke: Oh.
Grumpy Old Prop: Oh.
Jarrod Dyke: Not quite Jasper or Ashy going off, but...
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Damn close. Almost more painful in a way. um Yeah, it's... While, well again, while I feel for Leicester and you know they they work to get their tries, also it does discipline does come into effect. And you know you and I are both on the same page when we talk about discipline. like yeah You're going to give away penalties, but there's like a mark where you just have to stop. And Leicester couldn't help themselves.
Jarrod Dyke: and And Finn, out did Finn miss a kick on the day?
Grumpy Old Prop: No.
Jarrod Dyke: I think he missed one, maybe.
Grumpy Old Prop: Maybe? um
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: I don't have it. You know, he made his conversions, so...
Grumpy Old Prop: I can't get my mouse to work.
Jarrod Dyke: mu seeus so He might have missed one of the penalties. That's it.
Jarrod Dyke: But yeah, it's...
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, I don't know.
Grumpy Old Prop: I mean, it was just like, it was a, yeah, it just, it was a difference in class and Lester obviously gave it you know, a good, give themselves a good puncher's chance. And, you know, it was a little bit of garbage timery, the Ileone try, like, and there was still a chance, but I mean,
Grumpy Old Prop: it wasn't, I don't know. I think, I think this, the scorelines closer than the game was. I think it favors the ah Tigers a little bit. Not that they were bad, but, um,
Grumpy Old Prop: I thought, you know, obviously with Finn kicking for goals so much, obviously I, I didn't always agree with it. I did the last one just to make sure, you know, obviously it was necessary, but, um, you know, always favor the, the, you know, going for the, uh, the tries over the, you know, that would have put the game away.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, it wasn't everyone's favorite choice, I can tell you that much.
Grumpy Old Prop: Um, had they done that earlier rather than kick the, kick the, uh, kick the penalties, but,
Grumpy Old Prop: I can't really argue against it. They won a title. So like, I don't agree with it, but they weren't wrong.
Jarrod Dyke: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: No, they end up being right, and it doesn't happen that often in terms of that. i mean, and also consider that they chalked off at least one other bath try. read i thought Was Reed or Pepper going score?
Grumpy Old Prop: right.
Jarrod Dyke: Pepper. Pepper was going to score, and they chalked that off, and I don't i remember just shaking my head saying, nope, I think you got did you got this wrong.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: But... Yeah, and then the, oh, the Smith, the Nicky Smith, what should have been a yellow card for him.
Grumpy Old Prop: Wasn't there a...
Jarrod Dyke: Like, oh, man, dude, he is so lucky to have stayed on the field for as long as he did because to me, that was not a natural emotion.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: He's not pulling his hand out. Number one, he puts his hand in there when he shouldn't have.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: But number two, like, even this is not natural unless you're actively trying to do it. like yeah
Grumpy Old Prop: Yep.
Jarrod Dyke: and okay ah Or you're knocked out, which is a possibility. But he wasn't knocked out. We know that. So, yeah, I you got away with that one for sure.
Grumpy Old Prop: No, he wasn't.
Jarrod Dyke: think he should count himself lucky, you know, wholeheartedly. um But, yeah i and i yeah, I like the way a lot of what... Backed it on the day. A lot of their guys, you know, their back row played really, really well overall between the ah three guys and then Barbary coming in as well. and And Bayless as well.
Jarrod Dyke: So good on those guys for doing the job.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, I mean, ultimately, like, good final, the the better team won, it just wasn't like a classic to me.
Jarrod Dyke: Mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: It's not, it's one of those, like, okay, cool, I watched that. It didn't have the, like, it had the tension, sure, like it had a little bit drama, it just didn't
Grumpy Old Prop: I don't know. It didn't have the showmanship that you'd want from a, like a ah final. And the, the way I guess the way this competition has been all year has been like lot of fireworks.
Grumpy Old Prop: And I get that it was, you know, teams that also can defend a little bit, but, um, not much in the way of fireworks. So it's one of those people. Oh yeah. Bath one. That was, yeah, that, that was, there was, that was a good team.
Grumpy Old Prop: wasn't a great game. Good team. So, um, I think that's going to be the more of the story of the season was like the best team won.
Jarrod Dyke: Very good team. Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: Um,
Grumpy Old Prop: The final wasn't one you're to that was, you know, you're not going to rewatch that 10 times unless you're a bad fan, which I understand.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. That's all you can get that. Um...
Jarrod Dyke: Cole's yellow. Yes, no.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yes.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, I think you you just got to make the decision and know who you are and be like, all right, I'm not getting this and get out of there or don't leave your feet.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: Maybe that be being the more better decision.
Grumpy Old Prop: And
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah. um
Grumpy Old Prop: It's just one of those, I didn't want to see, I didn't want to see it, but it was like, yeah, there's no, ah can't, you can't argue against it. I don't think.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, it was tough.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, I mean, tough to watch, but it's like, man, you didn't leave me a choice.
Grumpy Old Prop: Because, right, you don't want to card a guy in that situation. Nobody does. It's not, but like, hands are tied at some point.
Jarrod Dyke: Correct. Yeah, correct. I agree.
Grumpy Old Prop: It's not like that, ah oh yeah um there was a and move. I think I've, I don't know if I've referenced it before a movie, a farewell, it's a farewell to Paris with ah Billy Crystal and he's an NBA ref and he kicks out Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in his, in his, you know, farewell game. He's like, ref, it's my farewell game. And he says, well, let me be the first to say farewell.
Grumpy Old Prop: You're out.
Jarrod Dyke: And
Grumpy Old Prop: oh So it wasn't like that. It was more like, i can't believe I have to do this. So like nobody wants to, you know, nobody wants to do that.
Jarrod Dyke: Hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: But, you know, if it it doesn't matter at that point, like that when that play was going on, it's not, you know, Dan Cole's last game.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: It's that dude that prop is being a fucking dick and needs to sit for a bit.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. Yep. more More what it was about.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Even if he didn't feel so.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. So congratulations to Bath. um Obviously we're but big fans of the 9-10 combo over there as well. Especially good old Ben. Good for him.
Jarrod Dyke: kicking away whatever bullshit people have given him for the rest of his life.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. And he is, he is um training with the national squad. So I've seen, ah seen the, the, the photographic evidence.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, I would imagine so, especially without, yeah especially without Ben Poverle right now and and Mitchell.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, that's the two guys that were probably the top two seats for them.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: So, yeah, doing him. ah Let's go over to the Supers. Super dupers. um Crusader's Blues.
Grumpy Old Prop: That was a game that happened.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, it was, it you know, it was, it was tense, but at the same time, like, messy, like super messy.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, super messy.
Jarrod Dyke: And ah ah look let's put it on the right person that that's on too, by the way.
Grumpy Old Prop: I mean...
Jarrod Dyke: And the yes, I know the weather didn't help. Dolman. Dolman. holy shit, did he let that rock just be a fucking shit show?
Grumpy Old Prop: He was...
Jarrod Dyke: Like, oh, I'm watching it. I'm like, every rock is a total mess, and he could easily clean that up just by saying, yeah, you don't need to go in there and or comma slash, get the fuck out of there, please.
Jarrod Dyke: and Instead, he just lets it happen like an idiot.
Grumpy Old Prop: There was a... I can't remember what...
Grumpy Old Prop: oh which I can't remember which team it was, but like one player was still retreating after a tackle and the tackle player tried to pop it and he just caught it as he's offside, never onside, like literally never onside.
Jarrod Dyke: Mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: He's coming back and the pop from the deck, he just catches it and and plays it out. And Doman's like, I play on. It's like.
Jarrod Dyke: It's like, oh, play on. No, no, no. there's there's There's a breakdown here, you fucking idiot. Like, what's wrong with you?
Grumpy Old Prop: That's.
Jarrod Dyke: Ugh.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right. And I'm just, I was like, I i can't take this game seriously anymore.
Jarrod Dyke: No. I couldn't. As soon as I saw him, I was like, and this is funny.
Grumpy Old Prop: And it was, yeah, it was, he was awful the whole game.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, he's terrible. He should never be near professional rugby, but let alone anything but above super rugby.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, that was, fuck.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeesh. Um...
Grumpy Old Prop: He's going to be the new Ensel me.
Jarrod Dyke: yeah ah ah The yellow card? I mean, Satutu or whatever. um That might as well been for the game.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, he did it.
Jarrod Dyke: Enor and Fusitua, I thought both were lucky to return, quite honestly.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yes. and but Here's the thing, though. i got to say that's out of Dolman's hands, at least. He's like, yep, yellow meets the threshold.
Jarrod Dyke: It is. it is.
Grumpy Old Prop: Go check it out. I am shocked that both.
Jarrod Dyke: is.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, both. I was like.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, so that's on, you know, the refereeing team as a whole, which is...
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: look
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Well, I will say this for the game itself. um
Jarrod Dyke: Will Jordan stood up and and made his presence known. He got two. One of them wasn't the prettiest ones, but he got there. But the other one was pretty good. So, ah you know, this might be the return of Will Jordan, which is bad news for any way that's about to play him one way or the other.
Jarrod Dyke: um Yeah, because...
Grumpy Old Prop: Fortunately, oh oh, wait, wait, wait. I will come to that in second.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, sadly, that's going to be you, I think, big guy.
Grumpy Old Prop: Wait a second.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. ah speak of the devil, let's yeah let's go to this. um Chiefs Brumby's Brumby's gave it the old college try, as it were.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: um
Grumpy Old Prop: And it ended in a solid, that's a solid butt kicking right there.
Jarrod Dyke: But in the end, just quality and yeah, Lola CEO not coming back didn't didn't help.
Grumpy Old Prop: Like that's, that's all that. No, that didn't help at all.
Jarrod Dyke: I'm sorry, Jack DiPersini, that's not your...
Grumpy Old Prop: Um,
Jarrod Dyke: but that's That's just not going to happen for you.
Grumpy Old Prop: no.
Jarrod Dyke: I'm sure you're well liked, but nope.
Grumpy Old Prop: No, and he he did was in some stupid shit as soon as he came on the field, too. He was not helping his team, um which is a shame. But, yeah, the Chiefs, it was just too much Chiefs.
Grumpy Old Prop: Like, it they just started to get overwhelming, and then it overwhelmed.
Jarrod Dyke: And eventually it was overwhelming.
Grumpy Old Prop: um
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, Corey Toole put on a good show.
Jarrod Dyke: Yep, another one that played well for them.
Grumpy Old Prop: That was cool. um you know, I you know got to say, you know, McKenzie's still kicking for posts a lot, but at this point it was, yeah, just keep kicking.
Jarrod Dyke: him
Grumpy Old Prop: Like he wasn't, they weren't giving up like great field position for him. They were just like, okay, well you have a bit of a boot, take a shot.
Jarrod Dyke: yes there were a couple especially yeah there were a couple for sure i was just like yeah okay you're pretty far out here but if you want to go for it
Grumpy Old Prop: And you're, you're cause he's been on target. And so it's like, why not? Okay. Okay. Yeah, and it's like free points and you know extent again.
Grumpy Old Prop: to me, in a game like this, you build the scoreboard. like You've already scored. How many tries did they score? um One.
Jarrod Dyke: Oh, I got one.
Grumpy Old Prop: Wow, they only scored three tries.
Jarrod Dyke: And then, yeah and scored two and Jacob, Jake, they were talking about him on the broadcast and think he's worth mentioning here too.
Grumpy Old Prop: Shit. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah
Jarrod Dyke: Jacob, like, yeah, what a, what a development he has been for them and revelation that he has been for them. Cause it's just, yeah, the, you know, they, they, there's many of people, you know, you and I included that were like, oh, DMACC can't just play 10.
Jarrod Dyke: They gotta have someone else.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: and for the, the, beginning of the season while they were trying to get jacob to understand how that second receiver is played in their attack um he filled the role adequately in the first receiver while they were trying to train him into that second receiver role and you he the last what month or so he's been into that that second receiver role for them and and and played extremely well especially for young lad don't think he's very old um
Grumpy Old Prop: No, i think he's pretty young. But I don't know how much or how young.
Jarrod Dyke: look him up here 23 23 not super not super young but not not super old so yeah good good time to start developing yourself and put yourself to the front there big guy yeah yeah
Grumpy Old Prop: It's not bad.
Grumpy Old Prop: and it does but that also does allow you know then you can as you're saying dmack can share first receiver position too and as good i mean look he's been excellent this year as i've been saying um because like with with um brock webster like well when we see it
Jarrod Dyke: hmm
Grumpy Old Prop: We'll tell you like it's, this isn't a, Oh, I hate the guy.
Jarrod Dyke: Mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: So i'm just going dish on him. um No, I was really disappointed with D max play at 10 and he's completely turned it around. And that's the, I thought he managed this game really well.
Grumpy Old Prop: Like the, the problem with D Mac has, ah has, has traditionally been that he's a complete highlights player. And when he's not making a highlight, he's hurting the team. And it it only looks better because you see the highlights. Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: um But he's really brought some substance to his game. So, and that's what put them in this position. And
Grumpy Old Prop: to had to be for Jacob to learn from a guy like that is going to be super helpful the future.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: And it's been helpful for his development this year.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, I think it'd be hard to deny otherwise.
Jarrod Dyke: Truly we do. So, Chiefs Crusaders
Jarrod Dyke: in Christchurch.
Jarrod Dyke: I look forward to that one in the on the the morning there.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yes, when whenever it goes to replay so we can watch it without going on social medias.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. Listen, I don't have that issue. You do.
Jarrod Dyke: you You have that tendency to just...
Grumpy Old Prop: There's nothing worse. So there's not much... the funny thing is there's not much rugby on Blue Sky yet. And yet I open it up and it's in it's always...
Jarrod Dyke: You find ways to... It finds you. Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: It's like, what the fuck? I don't want to hear about this right now. Like you're the safe place where there's no, we're unfortunate. Like, mean, at that point it should be the safe place because there's such little rugby content and no, I get spoiled.
Jarrod Dyke: And womp womp. ah Okay.
Jarrod Dyke: Whip around for comma slash free jacks. um Well, we scored, what, 20 seconds into the game and we didn't turn back.
Grumpy Old Prop: he Pretty much. Now, it was...
Jarrod Dyke: Lasage down the sideline to Balacano and KMiami, nice to see you.
Grumpy Old Prop: ah
Grumpy Old Prop: sir
Jarrod Dyke: Goodbye. they they
Grumpy Old Prop: Thanks for playing.
Jarrod Dyke: it was I think it was, what, 12.10 at one point? And that's the closest it got.
Jarrod Dyke: Pretty sure that's's that's where it got.
Grumpy Old Prop: Something along those lines.
Jarrod Dyke: I was like, okay, I think this is over. I'm to throw that out there.
Jarrod Dyke: ah Yeah, I mean...
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, because...
Jarrod Dyke: i Yeah, and they they were...
Grumpy Old Prop: they what they there was And that 10, their try was their first try in New England in quite some time.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, three. They've had three matches to try to score.
Grumpy Old Prop: And...
Jarrod Dyke: Last year, they got three points. a year the year This year, when they came here, got six.
Jarrod Dyke: ah Yeah, so...
Grumpy Old Prop: And like...
Grumpy Old Prop: the The Free Jacks also did have a try that was disallowed, as we we were talking about earlier. um There was... Did you see the replay at all? Have you actually gone back to watch any of it?
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, and I don't like any of it, so...
Grumpy Old Prop: Because i thought that was...
Jarrod Dyke: I disagree.
Grumpy Old Prop: i've I thought that was a little bit fair, but but at the same time, I don't like that it was called back at all because that was a brilliant play. what Webster gets receives a kick.
Grumpy Old Prop: It didn't really impact anything. That's the other thing.
Jarrod Dyke: No.
Grumpy Old Prop: There was no there's no impact to the play. there was no then Woody was going to charge that down. It was a long kick. Webster takes a run at their line, notices that their backfield is...
Grumpy Old Prop: they're back field is completely discombobulated and just chips it.
Jarrod Dyke: Super discombobulated. Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: And one guy goes after it lazily after a bounce and Webster's like, Nope, mine steals it and runs for a try.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: And it's like, yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Just it didn't quite steal it out of his hands, but virtually did. Just like ah like, and I've seen that happen probably three or four times this year in rugby in general, but at at all levels, by the way.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: um
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: Our boys grade all the way up to freaking, you know, high-end stuff. um Just if you're running back and you're trying to chase that ball, b Be a little more hasty with it.
Jarrod Dyke: Be a little more quick with it and some intention and put some intention behind it.
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah High-pointed, maybe. Because they the yeah
Jarrod Dyke: Also that.
Grumpy Old Prop: the the Sharks player just put his hands arms down. like He gave it put a basket made a basket for it. and it's like So Webster just jumped up over and grabbed it before it could land in the basket.
Jarrod Dyke: Right, right, right, right.
Grumpy Old Prop: and It's like...
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: Got to go get it at its highest point. You can't just let it come to you. Especially if you can't sink to it.
Jarrod Dyke: Always.
Grumpy Old Prop: And hey, but the Free Jacks have been living off of stupid back three play like that for a couple weeks, which is always entertaining.
Jarrod Dyke: well they've flipped off dumb back three playoff Miami for a couple of matches now I mean when you let the prop chase down the kick you deserve it you deserve it let's be honest uh yeah I yeah yeah the boys just played really well overall and um
Grumpy Old Prop: That's true. That's true.
Grumpy Old Prop: Oh, that was awesome.
Grumpy Old Prop: That was so awesome.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. Oh.
Jarrod Dyke: They were smart and got Holland's head off because that is that is their best 10 right now because Hot Rots is done for the year.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. and
Jarrod Dyke: we won't see Penny. We won't see Penny this year. Like, yeah, but it's that's the best decision possible is to keep Holland's head wrapped in wool while while we can.
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah
Jarrod Dyke: This weekend may not be as fortunate with Chicago coming in, and this is a rematch of last year.
Grumpy Old Prop: No, at this point it's at this point, it's all hands on deck.
Jarrod Dyke: So,
Grumpy Old Prop: like
Jarrod Dyke: mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: Unless he's carrying an injury that's going to to question next week. um He's staying in.
Jarrod Dyke: Yep. Yep. So hopefully hopefully, I mean, we're we're gonna we're going to them we're going to the match next week too, and regardless, but you know.
Grumpy Old Prop: Or until the boys like make it clear. Yeah, we are.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: um
Jarrod Dyke: MLR finals right down the road from us this year.
Grumpy Old Prop: is
Jarrod Dyke: Predetermined site. So fingers crossed, but still awesome. Yeah. yeah And while he didn't have any highlight plays, I thought Cam had another fantastic match.
Grumpy Old Prop: He did.
Jarrod Dyke: between his yeah yeah say between service and kicks i think he did a he did really good job yep so good on the boys hopefully they can carry it on for one more and then we can go to rhode island together tbd anywho um
Grumpy Old Prop: he got i The ball was always where it needed to be. He got it out quick with a plan. um had some good box kicks.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: Would be fun.
Jarrod Dyke: let's go to the fun um Maybe they outdid themselves.
Grumpy Old Prop: I mean, honestly, like it's a small thing, but Ileone, when he came on for Leicester, made the impact they were looking for.
Jarrod Dyke: He's been good in sub-roll. Yeah, he's been good in sub-roll. I think that's fair to say.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. um And you do that in the final, to come into a final and and change the tenor of the of the match. um Help. that That's huge.
Grumpy Old Prop: So, you know, that to me, I'm trying to think of of somebody from the match and really he was the one that that stood out as far as like, certainly that went above what I would expect from
Jarrod Dyke: Agreed.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, no, I'm going agree with you on that one. um
Jarrod Dyke: Anybody that shat it, you in just a wee bit?
Grumpy Old Prop: um Well, Debra Senni, I thought, like you said, it's not really fair to him, but um yeah, he I thought he had a pretty shit game.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, I think I can think of a few folks that probably thought would think the same.
Jarrod Dyke: Any ref coach young players you want to point out?
Grumpy Old Prop: um young player to me i know it it might not quite fit but given the the scarcity of matches i'm gonna go with guy pepper um because again like so the and the reason that you know it's not even an outdid himself he just was himself like that's that's what you get it at peak guy pepper that's him on form and um
Jarrod Dyke: Same. I was looking at him too.
Jarrod Dyke: Played very well.
Jarrod Dyke: Yep.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, he's young and and you know is seeing things that are happening to players that are in his mold. And he's going to want that for himself too.
Jarrod Dyke: Right. Yeah, and he's good he's got chasing a lot at this point.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: really is. a lot of guys that are putting their their names right in front of his, so hard to...
Grumpy Old Prop: He is.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right. Two guys on the Saints. They're all the same age. Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: They're all mobile and hit like a truck and and put up put up some points.
Jarrod Dyke: Mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: So they're gonna have to do a lot to differentiate themselves.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, fair to say.
Grumpy Old Prop: One guy already is, the other has been hurt this year, and the other is Guy Pepper. yeah other the The third one being Pearson of the Saints to me.
Jarrod Dyke: Right. Yeah. Agreed. Try the week.
Grumpy Old Prop: i I think the Ojo Mo try, personally.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: um That, yeah. That was also, I think, Finn just being like, yeah, I'm done running. You're good.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. No, I, I, I, um, no i i um I feel like Balacana's was immense in a lot of ways.
Grumpy Old Prop: Hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: While it was a high-quality try on top of it all, you know, just getting the the boys off on the right foot and really making mine ah put taking the air out of the balloon for Miami.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: They're just like, ah, here we go again.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: How tired do you think they are of hearing Azaz?
Jarrod Dyke: oh super. Super.
Grumpy Old Prop: Like, I, I, I totally like, I never thought about it until Jared mentioned it this week where, where we were, we, we did had multiple occasions for Huzzah-ing after tries.
Jarrod Dyke: shiver
Grumpy Old Prop: And Jared's like, can imagine being in the team? How much that was, this would piss you off.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: was like, yeah, I like, yeah. Cause it's loud too. They, they can certainly hear it. They know what's going on.
Grumpy Old Prop: they would be something that i I would probably like hate that the other team does, even though it's fun doing it. It's fun as hell to do.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, it's one of those things that just the other other team is like, I'm so sick of this shit. Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right. Like I have to hear this again. Cause again, again, the sharks, like how many times have they heard that the last three years? Like it's just been constant.
Jarrod Dyke: Too many.
Grumpy Old Prop: And for many other teams that are, that, that come to, um, to Fort Quincy, it's like, like, Oh great. We're going to go where they has I after the tries, like,
Jarrod Dyke: Mm
Grumpy Old Prop: And we're going to hear it a lot because the free decks are good. Like ah that would just be one of those, man, I you want to keep the fans quiet. So it just, you almost take it personally when they do it.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, right.
Jarrod Dyke: So much fun. um Player of the
Grumpy Old Prop: I, I got to go with Finn. He was just immense as he always is.
Jarrod Dyke: Hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: um and delivered a win in in like on on and all fronts. he He was creative. He um was brave.
Grumpy Old Prop: And um he also managed the scoreboard really well.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, we so we saw some of the best of Finn in this game.
Grumpy Old Prop: and
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: you know he i think he had one error that in very Finn fashion just forgot it. As soon as he did it, he forgot it. And I was like, that is...
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah
Jarrod Dyke: Well, you want someone to be able to say go back and look at and say, all right, I need to fix that. At the same time, you don't. You are paying Finn Russell to be Finn Russell. You don't want him to turn into something else.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right. And he knows. like It's like it took a calculated risk and it failed. So, okay. and i'll I'll do it again. um It's not going to stop me from doing it again.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, little Fervarian in some of those ways.
Grumpy Old Prop: Because it shouldn't. If you're... like Yeah, you play... it's It's the... You know, as as ah the... great sage prop uh craig mckenzie once said like it's cost of doing business like sometimes sometimes bad things happen when you try cool shit and but the thing is like people like finn and you know cipriani that you know that are in that mold like they're fun as hell to watch and they do win more than
Jarrod Dyke: Hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: um you know the untalented like paint by numbers type tens or you know like so yeah even talented paint by numbers tens like you know george ford's a fine 10 with that he'll he'll he'll conduct it the orchestra the way you want him to but
Jarrod Dyke: hmm. Yeah. hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: There's not going to be much variation or um and some improvisation every so often, but not a lot of it. And Finn is just like, no, there's a hole over there. I'm just going to put the ball there and oh, I'll just use my foot instead of passing it.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, right.
Grumpy Old Prop: Like, okay, it it works.
Jarrod Dyke: Definitely.
Grumpy Old Prop: So what do you, why, why are we, know, are you not entertained?
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. Are you not entertained?
Grumpy Old Prop: Is this not why you were here? Yeah, that is exactly why I'm there for that. yes
Jarrod Dyke: No shit, right? That's what you paid to go see, right? More or less. Dick of the week.
Grumpy Old Prop: Dolman. sort
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: Fucking up an already fucked up game. Like, it was already messy enough.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. Yeah. I have a special dick of the week.
Grumpy Old Prop: Okay.
Jarrod Dyke: I won't say the name, but the referee of our final from Saturday where we had ah player commit a foul against us and i quote, show me the blood.
Grumpy Old Prop: I didn't do it.
Grumpy Old Prop: Oh. Fuck. Yeah, he was a dick.
Jarrod Dyke: What? What?
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: What? Keep in mind, this guy is supposed to be in charge of refereeing for the high school in the area. That, to me, is... It's disappointing, but it's also, like, just disgraceful as well.
Jarrod Dyke: It's like, really? like So we're penalizing outcomes and not actions. So if as long as there's no blood, you can go ahead and do whatever whatever the fuck you want.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. This was after.
Jarrod Dyke: i um Is that what I'm getting here? and
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, just this was after last week where the same referee, um Red, carded one of Jared's players for an offense he did not commit. um He was carded for um leading with the forearm.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: And he didn't do that. But the other player, like it was as he was running by him and just clipped. it they There was an elbow clipped to the head.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: Nothing intentional, just really.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, it was a rugby incident.
Grumpy Old Prop: not a great job by the defender to be not, not trying to blame a victim here, but it's like, well, he didn't put his head in a good spot and, and and took an elbow for it.
Jarrod Dyke: Oh, was poor tackle technique. It was poor tackle technique. Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: Um, but he was bleeding.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, we we had a similar one.
Grumpy Old Prop: So there, yeah. So the the ref said up red. And so, you know, the, this time a guy actually runs with his, out his forearm out at multiple players.
Jarrod Dyke: o
Grumpy Old Prop: And, and Jared brings us to his attention and and the, even the AR on our side, who's a good guy, um, like kind of, looked at you like, yeah, like this, like, you know, you might want to consider that.
Grumpy Old Prop: And yeah, that was, that was the referee's return was show me the blood.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: So yeah, no, it's just, no, I think that was him.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, and didn't even give me the time of day at halftime either. Just... And i and i I was patient. I was patient and I waited for him to come away from whatever wherever area he was in.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, you were.
Jarrod Dyke: I stayed in my technical box and didn't do anything where I you know i didn't pull a Ian Crowley were or Karen Crowley where I went over and you know made life hard on him.
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah Can confirm.
Grumpy Old Prop: ah Phil Knight.
Jarrod Dyke: I was waiting for him and he just shooed me off. So to you, sir, dick of the week because that is not okay.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, that's a fair. He was a dick.
Jarrod Dyke: um We got one pick'em left. Chiefs Crusaders.
Grumpy Old Prop: I'm going with a better team.
Grumpy Old Prop: So Chiefs.
Jarrod Dyke: I hope they finally get it done, buddy. you You are three times bride means, but yet the bride. but
Grumpy Old Prop: I think this is their worst matchup yet though. So, I mean like their worst opponent yet. So i i think I'm feeling positive about it. i think there's a lot of um one-on-one matchups that favor the chiefs in this and it will, it will.
Jarrod Dyke: I think front row would be interesting.
Jarrod Dyke: I think front row would be interesting. I think back three will be interesting.
Grumpy Old Prop: The pack is actually the whole pack. I mean, you know, cause they don't have like,
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: they kind of go punch for punch and in the front eight because it's like Satiti and um Leo Willey.
Jarrod Dyke: Legal Willie. Mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: um I would give the edge to Satiti and obviously for reasons, but that's not a, you know, I'd almost in the balance, on balance, give Crusaders the edge there in that back three because I'm not really a huge fan of Finau or Jacobson.
Jarrod Dyke: Same.
Grumpy Old Prop: They're good, but they're not like
Jarrod Dyke: who
Grumpy Old Prop: you know
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, you get get some all blacks on the other side.
Grumpy Old Prop: They're not bolters.
Jarrod Dyke: Yep.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. ah Exactly. and think Like Christie and... Fuck, they've been good. um
Jarrod Dyke: Yep.
Grumpy Old Prop: So there's that. The locks, I think, are almost a wash, but it's kind of hard even hard to say that.
Jarrod Dyke: Yep.
Grumpy Old Prop: um But then you get to the backs, and it's i to me, it's to a man. It favors the Chiefs.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. It will be interesting. I'm looking forward to watching this one.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Hopefully it doesn't disappoint.
Grumpy Old Prop: Except maybe Will Jordan and Sean Stevenson. That is
Jarrod Dyke: That's box office. If they both play to their to their to their abilities, that's going to be ah otherworldly for sure.
Grumpy Old Prop: not to register as 18 just to be able to watch it
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: ah Shit. All right. So that's that. We... um We're going to do a very brief fancy corner in a minute here. If you want to have a listen to that, we'll see you over there. If not, enjoy the Super Rugby final and the Lions match and all that stuff. And we'll catch you guys next week. Have a good one. Thank you listening.
Grumpy Old Prop: Later.
Jarrod Dyke: Cheers.
