Grumpy Old Prop: um we've got a lot of Obviously, there's a lot of shit going on in the U.S., way too much. But let's give a shout-out to the Major League Baseball player, Willie Castro, of the the Twins, um who painted his eye black um in the as the trans flag colors.

Grumpy Old Prop: um Really cool move on his part to to show solidarity with people who are under threat. um from all sides, unfortunately, of our our political aisle here or aisles here in the U S.

Grumpy Old Prop: Um, and you know, something he obviously didn't have to do. And there's a lot of, um, you know, athletes who are dicks and they say, Oh, I'm not going to wear the, you know, any, any gay pride stuff or, you know, there's things that they just won't do.
Grumpy Old Prop: um you know, we've seen a lot in hockey where they've just canceled it entirely. Um, but this guy goes out of his way to, uh, show solidarity. And um we need to see more of that. So I want to go with you know a little bit of positive today.

Jarrod Dyke: You know, people could make more statements with that, with the iBlack stuff too, if they wanted to, because it's not actually something scientifically that helps.

Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. So, yeah, I think more people should do that. Yeah. I'm doing goodmon Castro for doing that.

Grumpy Old Prop: Right. And support. Like that's, you know, um for for those of us who grew up at a time when um like I was in college and when the first like football players started and like, you know, captains of teams started coming out as gay and it being accepted.

Grumpy Old Prop: and But like for those of us who grew up, you know, when i like was so even when I was in high school, it would be unheard of for that to happen. Like a football player, get what? Like um let alone show support, even if you're not.
Grumpy Old Prop: was was weird. So let's you know let's see that. I love the to see that kind of progress. and and you know People worry so much about what would their ancestors think.
Grumpy Old Prop: Well, how about what your your children and grandchildren would think? like Let's let's go move go in that direction.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, maybe worry about that. the other ones are gone.
Grumpy Old Prop: um Yeah. um And so, yeah, it's it's good to see um someone stepping out and saying, hey, these people need need our support and they they have mine.
Grumpy Old Prop: um We need that a lot more than, and I'd rather highlight that than highlight certainly the bullshit that's going on in LA with um people fighting back against this And they're not even really fighting. They're just sitting there saying, hey, don't do it. Don't do that. And let's, you know, let's have fun.
Grumpy Old Prop: And the cops are just shooting shit at them um to be dicks.
Jarrod Dyke: Totally makes sense.
Grumpy Old Prop: So, yeah, we don't need that. um One thing I do want to point out, though, within that is I've seen people say, i never, I don't see American flags at at these protests.
Jarrod Dyke: No.
Grumpy Old Prop: um You know, these these people should have more American flags. And it's like, you know, like that'll show people what, you know, what those what those flags really mean. And I'm like, You know, there are people there with American flags and they're the ones shooting the protesters.
Grumpy Old Prop: So um maybe think about that.
Jarrod Dyke: Generally speaking, yes.
Grumpy Old Prop: Maybe think about that before you you try to tell people what the protesters should do and and how they should adorn themselves. Because, yeah, we're seeing the spirit of America.

Jarrod Dyke: I started well for Bristol, but halftime came and the wheels came off.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. um Well, it didn't hurt. the head They had two yellow cards and... um know randall was hurt early who want there a couple didn't have a couple injuries i'm going to their team uh sheet now um who came off early randall came off first half um yeah that was it so aj was banged yeah he was banged up kind of early had yeah um
Jarrod Dyke: Oh, that did not help.
Jarrod Dyke: AJ was banged up though for sure he was playing on one leg a little bit
Grumpy Old Prop: Just a, you know, brutal match on a little, brutal weekend for first certain ah players. um But yeah, it was, you know, just, not I wouldn't say like wheels coming off either. It was like was this still a close game, still a fun game the whole way through.
Grumpy Old Prop: um Certainly not boring, even though I texted you that it was boring. I was being kind of sarcastic there. Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: I can't figure it as much. Generally speaking, when you send me that, I know it's not going to be that boring at the very least.

Grumpy Old Prop: Um, you know that butll We'll talk about it in a different segment, but that ah Bristol try um kind of you know early on in the in the match was just them setting down a marker saying, we're going to play from our own end and we're going to back ourselves.
Jarrod Dyke: Mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: And they did, and unfortunately, it's just they they couldn't they couldn't get over the line enough. And Bath just kind of were slow and steady and and you know decided to put away the the um the tea after half and really open it up themselves, or at least go for glory themselves. And that's really what what changed the game.

Jarrod Dyke: yeah i i feel for bristol because they did try to go for it but things were not sticking and then bath just the best defense was just really overwhelming after a point and it's like oh here we go this is this is where things go and then Randall off, Marmion on the card.

Jarrod Dyke: That's bad news. And actually, I was only half paying attention after our Jumbo scored.

Jarrod Dyke: Beyond, yeah, beyond two converted tries, I was like, and all right, I can put this kind of in the background of my mind and no longer need to pay attention not too heavily to it

Jarrod Dyke: that he's He's huge in what Bath are going to be able to do because, obviously, we we know Ollie Lawrence is not joined back, and they do need, and Redpath is a different type of player, if still very good, but they need Jomo take another step and be huge in that midfield, and this week will be interesting to see how that goes.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. He was. In a massive game.
Jarrod Dyke: Oh, yeah, totally. It was absolutely well-classed. was great.
Grumpy Old Prop: Overall, and and a season, though, in the end that that Bristol can, think, be proud of. right they the
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: They made it a game against the what's clearly far, head and shoulders, the best team in the Prem. um And like you know really you know did themselves proud. it's it was a you know That's a tough you know tough place to go into, especially rivalry the semis.
Grumpy Old Prop: um in a way, and they threw their punches and um and gave it their best. So, you know, one of those, Pat Lamb was on a little bit on the hot seat going into this year, and I think he solidified himself as, no, he's he's earned the right to continue to try to build that team to a potential championship side. there's There's just some some pieces that aren't quite there yet.
Jarrod Dyke: Very close, yeah. Very, very close.
Grumpy Old Prop: But like, you know, they've got, certainly if if Max Malins was, was healthy.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: And, you know, obviously the same thing with Ollie Lawrence, like there's, there's, there's a lot.
Jarrod Dyke: You gotta believe this is a different game.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. It's just a different story for, for at least for, for Bristol. I think Bristol needed, need Malins a lot more than Bath need Lawrence.
Grumpy Old Prop: And that's not nothing against Lawrence. It's just that. That bath team is fucking stacked.

Jarrod Dyke: um And I'm, yeah, I'm certainly jealous of watching that team play in the way they did.

Jarrod Dyke: yeah, i I was little jealous of it, honestly, because these guys have played really well. And they haven't, here's the thing about Leicester. Radwin's obviously made a huge difference and and we talked about how much it opened up the likes of Hassel Collins and Freddie Stewart.

Jarrod Dyke: um What I've noticed about this team and the way they've gone about their business is not not I don't think one person has had to do has had to carry the weight the whole way through.
Jarrod Dyke: I think they've had several different people step up.

Jarrod Dyke: Yes, Montaja was immense and on saturday on Saturday. There's no question about that, and he generally is. Ali Chesum has had his days. Liebenberg has had his days.
Jarrod Dyke: um Even Joe Woodward's had his days, and obviously the Wings have had their time too. and it's it It speaks of balance, which is really dangerous in a lot of ways. It also means that without – The superstar, sometimes you can see guys, you know, if nobody has a good day, nobody's going to have a good day.
Jarrod Dyke: And that's just how it is.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yup.
Jarrod Dyke: um Without a complete world beater that's going to just take over a game. And I can't say they totally have one right now. Like Jasper Visa used to be one of those guys to me that was that would definitely do that.
Jarrod Dyke: And they don't have the likes of him anymore. And I'm not saying that they need him necessarily. But they do need a couple guys to step forward and say,

Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. But like the team was better without him when he would when he would be out of the lineup.
Jarrod Dyke: Mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: And there's plenty of players that are like that. like Eric Lindros was like that for the Flyers a little bit. They leaned on him too much. And he was a great player. don't give you like These are amazing Hall of Fame-worthy players, legends.
Grumpy Old Prop: But like the team just leaned on them too much. And be like, I don't have to do as much because because Ewing or Lindros is there. Or Visa. Yeah. you know visa um and they don't have that, but they have so many guys who can step up like, ah Oh, it's like better than Jags, right?
Grumpy Old Prop: Like, you know, it's a bunch of Jags with someone like Patrick Ewing.

Yeah. this weekend, like he did his job extremely well and won battles for, for the Tigers. Liebenberg, the same as you were saying, like Radwin was when they needed him, he was there.
Grumpy Old Prop: Like it was one of those, like he wasn't, he didn't take over the game exactly, but get him. Like there was like, no, get him. When you get them involved, when it's time to get them involved, get them the ball. Freddie Stewart, I thought was, was, was, you know,
Grumpy Old Prop: immense under the high ball he he won a couple of really bad kicks that just there were so there was a stupid like tactically but he made it work because he went out and you know and uh out jumped carpenter who right and and if you have a bad kick but a great chase then okay you're you're still all right

Jarrod Dyke: a place that needs a they need a young guy to really step forward so I'm hoping that his his growth continues to go upwards and he doesn't turn into a shithouse like some of the ones that they have but yeah and like and like even like Devery that was great it was great to see him step forward while Amua was figuring out his injury situation and all that stuff and that actually bit him here too so yeah um overall good I don't have a ton of bad things to say about the Brumbies there.
Jarrod Dyke: That's a really good team. Liliceo being back on the saddle was extremely huge for them.

Jarrod Dyke: And as soon as I saw he was healthy the other week, i was like, God damn it That's not good.

I have a much better, you know, whatever happens this this coming weekend, um you know, I think the odds still are um are better against the Brumbies than they would have been against the hurricanes.
