Introduction & Drinks
00:00:01
Speaker
Hey everybody, welcome to this week's spooky spinoff where we are neither drunk nor riders.
00:00:06
Speaker
My name is not Marcus, I am Kelly.
00:00:20
Speaker
Do you want to say what you're drinking?
00:00:22
Speaker
No, we gotta go in order.
00:00:24
Speaker
Okay, I'm drinking nothing.
00:00:27
Speaker
I'm drinking Publix spring water.
00:00:31
Speaker
I have a Sam's Club purify the water.
00:00:36
Speaker
I have a gin and tonic.
00:00:40
Speaker
Okay, Joey, I'll see you.
00:00:42
Speaker
Clearly I am the adult here.
00:00:44
Speaker
I am drinking from Tripping Animals, a Frago, a DDH hazy IPA in collaboration with Flock Brewing, which has Simcoe's Cryo, Mosaic Cryo, Simcoe, and Mosaic hops.
00:00:59
Speaker
We all know what that means.
00:01:01
Speaker
I know some of those words.
00:01:05
Speaker
It's delicious and shocker tonight, P.A.
00:01:09
Speaker
So anyways, what are we doing?
Drinking Game & Spooky Histories
00:01:12
Speaker
We're here to bring a special episode celebrating the end of spooky season.
00:01:17
Speaker
We're going to talk about all things spooky.
00:01:20
Speaker
We had a fun spooky weekend, which we'll get to later.
00:01:24
Speaker
I figured we would start just kind of setting the stage with everyone's history.
00:01:30
Speaker
of being spooky witches.
00:01:31
Speaker
Do you like spooky movies?
00:01:33
Speaker
Have you always been a fan of attending spooky events?
00:01:37
Speaker
Those type of things.
00:01:37
Speaker
Let everyone get to know you a little bit better.
00:01:41
Speaker
Your drinking game for tonight.
00:01:42
Speaker
Every time one of us says spooky, you drink.
00:01:50
Speaker
Do you want to start first since you're the least spooky?
00:01:55
Speaker
So I am here because...
00:01:57
Speaker
I have the recording power.
00:02:01
Speaker
I am not a spooky bitch or spooky in general.
00:02:05
Speaker
I don't like spooky.
00:02:07
Speaker
The only spooky I like is spooky themed beers.
00:02:13
Speaker
What else am I supposed to say?
00:02:16
Speaker
You don't watch spooky movies.
00:02:18
Speaker
I hate spooky movies.
00:02:20
Speaker
I am just not a spooky person.
00:02:24
Speaker
go to spooky events before absolutely not i went okay i went in high school and like in 2008 i went to hhn in california with my cousin and that is my only spookiness and now you go to lots of spooky things i am did you go into mazes in 2008 yes i did i did the uh still the best maze i've ever done is the texas chainsaw massacre maze they had that year was that in like a soundstage at the time or was in a tent
00:02:57
Speaker
2008, they had multiple, like, mazes at that point.
00:03:01
Speaker
Yeah, they also had, like, the tram tour, which was awesome.
00:03:08
Speaker
And everything was like a two-hour wait, so I bailed.
00:03:11
Speaker
Because I'm not a spooky bitch.
00:03:13
Speaker
So, that's my spooky experience.
00:03:19
Speaker
That's all I got for you.
00:03:21
Speaker
I'm just going to sip my beer now.
00:03:25
Speaker
Actually, hold on.
00:03:26
Speaker
I'm going to pull a mark and like barely talk this episode.
00:03:29
Speaker
So if you're used to me talking a lot, I'm just going to be like Mark and not say a word.
00:03:34
Speaker
I doubt that will be the case, but you could.
00:03:38
Speaker
Challenge accepted, sir.
00:03:48
Speaker
I've always liked spooky stuff.
00:03:52
Speaker
Some of my earliest memories of like haunted things when I was a Girl Scout, probably like maybe third grade or so we have like a local Halloween festival here that they still have.
00:04:06
Speaker
But it's not spooky anymore.
00:04:08
Speaker
It's just like a pumpkin patch and hayride and stuff.
00:04:09
Speaker
But there used to be a barn.
00:04:11
Speaker
that groups would like rent and be like the scare, the scare actors for it.
00:04:16
Speaker
And we got to do that as like a Girl Scout troop for a couple hours, like one weekend.
00:04:21
Speaker
And it was like my favorite thing to do every year.
00:04:23
Speaker
I loved figuring out, like I would orchestrate, please be surprised.
00:04:27
Speaker
I would orchestrate everyone's positions, their costumes and like what the scares should be.
00:04:34
Speaker
And I just have like such vivid memories of it.
00:04:37
Speaker
Even when we go there now, the barn is like used to sell like fall crafts.
00:04:40
Speaker
And I'm like, oh man, this would be so sick if it was spooky.
00:04:43
Speaker
But love doing that.
00:04:45
Speaker
Love going to like spooky local haunts in high school with my friends.
00:04:50
Speaker
I didn't really go to a lot of like park haunts aside from Dorney.
00:04:54
Speaker
I live very close to Dorney Park, so I would go to that a lot.
00:04:58
Speaker
But I've always loved spooky season, anything fall.
00:05:03
Speaker
I'm not like a huge horror movie fan.
00:05:05
Speaker
I do have like a couple of favorites, but more so just like the spooky events is what I really enjoy.
00:05:18
Speaker
No, I'm a huge... Thanks for that.
00:05:21
Speaker
I love... I'm a huge spooky bitch.
00:05:23
Speaker
I love horror movies.
00:05:24
Speaker
I love horror events.
00:05:28
Speaker
Yeah, I've been going to HHN since
00:05:30
Speaker
2009 um and i've been going every year since so so yeah i mean i've been getting more into like local haunts now um because we don't have many of them here in miami um so i always go to orlando for these haunts but but yeah i horror movies are my thing and hhn is my thing every single year so i think it's safe to say that i'm a i'm a spooky bitch i'm very jealous of your proximity
00:05:56
Speaker
Let me ask a weird question.
00:05:58
Speaker
So Florida doesn't really have seasons.
00:06:00
Speaker
Like, do you feel, have you like, was the first time that you experienced like that season somewhere where there really is a fall?
00:06:07
Speaker
And did you like get an opportunity to do something spooky and it felt different because of that?
00:06:12
Speaker
I mean, like when I left Florida, like for something like.
00:06:15
Speaker
Like doing a spooky event somewhere outside of Florida where it actually like becomes fall and it's like cool outside and all of that.
00:06:21
Speaker
Well, Trail of Terror was probably my first event.
00:06:25
Speaker
Yeah, it was probably my first time experiencing that, which changed everything.
00:06:29
Speaker
It amplified everything.
00:06:30
Speaker
It made it so much more exciting.
00:06:33
Speaker
I think we're going to talk about it in a bit, so we'll come back to it.
00:06:40
Speaker
Yeah, so I've loved spooky stuff since I was a little kid.
00:06:43
Speaker
I don't know if you guys remember this show.
00:06:45
Speaker
It was called Are You Afraid of the Dark on Nickelodeon?
00:06:48
Speaker
Do you guys remember that?
00:06:51
Speaker
I was probably like seven or eight.
00:06:54
Speaker
I would get home from school or like early evening and it's still light outside.
00:06:58
Speaker
I would like make my mom close the blinds so it was dark inside and I would just watch the reruns of that show.
00:07:05
Speaker
So that must be where it started.
00:07:09
Speaker
Growing up, I was like 10 minutes from Busch Gardens, so went to Hallow Scream every weekend in college, went to King's Dominion.
00:07:17
Speaker
Now I've been to both Horror Nights, Not Scary Farm.
00:07:21
Speaker
A couple local events also.
00:07:22
Speaker
So yeah, I've loved the spooky stuff ever since I was a little kid.
00:07:30
Speaker
I guess it's my turn.
00:07:31
Speaker
We'll get a rhythm.
00:07:33
Speaker
We'll get one eventually.
00:07:37
Speaker
So my story is kind of similar to Tyler's because we found this out actually after we both joined Buzz Bars in the queue of Mako.
00:07:44
Speaker
We were talking to each other and found out we went to rival high schools, both in Williamsburg, Virginia.
00:07:49
Speaker
So we grew up in that area.
00:07:51
Speaker
And Hallow Scream at Busch Gardens Williamsburg was always one of those events that was like top of mind and really exciting to me.
00:07:59
Speaker
As a kid, I was always interested in like the technical aspects of all of that and just like watching like the fog machines and the strobe lights and all of this technical stuff happening, the costumes, the makeup, like all of it really interested me.
00:08:12
Speaker
And so I enjoyed it from that aspect.
00:08:15
Speaker
And at the time was not super thrilled about like being scared.
00:08:18
Speaker
Like I would get really, really nervous in those maces, but I was kind of fascinated by like the theatricality and like the production behind all of it.
00:08:27
Speaker
And then like Kelly
Trail of Terror Experiences
00:08:28
Speaker
mentioned, sort of there was also a local thing in James City County.
00:08:31
Speaker
I can't remember what it was called, but there was a spooky hayride that was like part of this fair and it would drive through the woods and there would be like all of these local groups would do little spooky scenes out there.
00:08:42
Speaker
And one year in middle school, I actually through our drama club participated in that.
00:08:45
Speaker
And so I was like being a little tech nerd with my fog machine and my strobe light and all the drama kids were out there like doing a scene.
00:08:53
Speaker
So yeah, like it's not really a horror movies.
00:08:56
Speaker
Like you said, Kelly, that brought me into this as actual like haunt events that kind of started my interest in it.
00:09:06
Speaker
I'm glad that we talked about that because I didn't know any of this about you guys.
00:09:11
Speaker
And you love spooky stuff now, right?
00:09:13
Speaker
No, I do not love spooky stuff.
00:09:17
Speaker
You seem to have a great time this weekend.
00:09:19
Speaker
It's growing on him.
00:09:22
Speaker
The beer has smiles.
00:09:23
Speaker
We're going to spend a lot of time and probably like the biggest chunk of this episode talking about HHN because we were all just there.
00:09:31
Speaker
But I figured before we got into that, we could talk about some of the other spooky events we've attended this year just briefly.
00:09:40
Speaker
And I thought we could start with Trail of Terror since we were all there earlier in October as part of one of our Buzz Bars events.
00:09:47
Speaker
What did you guys...
00:09:49
Speaker
think of Trail of Terror.
00:09:50
Speaker
What was your opinion of that?
00:09:53
Speaker
I guess we can maybe start with like what it was.
00:09:56
Speaker
Somebody wants to take that.
00:09:59
Speaker
Because that was like your first one in the fall.
00:10:01
Speaker
That was my first one.
00:10:02
Speaker
I mean, honestly, by what I remember, because I was like screaming and running the whole time, honestly.
00:10:10
Speaker
It was just, it was massive.
00:10:11
Speaker
It was this massive event.
00:10:13
Speaker
Well, first off, we were, where was the trail located exactly?
00:10:18
Speaker
in Wallingford Connecticut so yeah so that was a huge I don't know like I felt like I was I didn't go into it thinking it was gonna be anything like what it was there were so many sets like I was just expecting some trail that was not gonna be anything anything crazy but there were so many different like rooms and areas to walk through and it took so long to walk through it all and
00:10:43
Speaker
But yeah, it was just a massive collection of a bunch of different horror movies in one little area.
00:10:52
Speaker
Well, not one little area.
00:10:52
Speaker
It took an hour to get through it.
00:10:54
Speaker
But yeah, I mean, I can't remember too much of it because I just remember little things here and there.
00:11:02
Speaker
But it was a massive event.
00:11:04
Speaker
I kind of feel like that too.
00:11:05
Speaker
I feel like it was so long that it like became a blur.
00:11:09
Speaker
Like it's wild now, especially since we just did HH and you walk through those houses in like three to five minutes and we walked through that trail for an hour.
00:11:18
Speaker
Like, yeah, that's insane that there's that much.
00:11:21
Speaker
And it's not like we were like taking our time anymore.
00:11:24
Speaker
Like truly was that long when I, when we started researching for the event, I pictured something completely different.
00:11:30
Speaker
I don't know about you guys, but I kind of
00:11:33
Speaker
thought Trail of Terror would be just like the equivalent of a haunted hayride through the woods, but you're walking.
00:11:40
Speaker
I think it was a lot more like enclosed than I expected, I think.
00:11:45
Speaker
Because we all, we knew it was going to be outdoor.
00:11:47
Speaker
But I guess sometimes when you think about that, you think of like a wider path, but a lot of it was similar to HHN mazes in some ways in the way that it like winded through and kind of had like tight turns and stuff like that.
00:11:58
Speaker
I mean, the biggest thing, like you said, Rafa, was just the scale.
00:12:01
Speaker
Like we have Netherworld here in Atlanta, which is like, I think the first maze takes about 20 to 25 minutes to get through.
00:12:08
Speaker
This was like two of those put together with a weird little mid-course break run in the middle where you kind of had like a snack stand and then got into a mini queue, not very long at all, before you went back in.
00:12:18
Speaker
And it was like 50 minutes long.
00:12:20
Speaker
That's, yeah, it was crazy.
00:12:22
Speaker
So I don't really remember.
00:12:25
Speaker
There's one moment that I think we all remember.
00:12:28
Speaker
We're all thinking what it is right now.
00:12:31
Speaker
The actor was certainly into it.
00:12:34
Speaker
He was giving all into his character.
00:12:39
Speaker
Tyler, didn't you have like the best experience with that?
00:12:41
Speaker
That's your actor.
00:12:43
Speaker
Um, best is definitely a word to describe.
00:12:47
Speaker
Um, he essentially cornered me in the room.
00:12:49
Speaker
I guess he was supposed to be like Buffalo Bill or something similar to that, but he cornered me in the room, just stared me down.
00:12:56
Speaker
I had nowhere to go.
00:12:57
Speaker
And he just like gets up on me and starts dry humping me.
00:13:01
Speaker
And I am just, I have no idea what to do.
00:13:05
Speaker
wild i looked back rafa i think it was you behind me and i looked back like with a bleeding look in my eyes like and i just ran right with you i'm like he's not gonna stop me and do the same thing yeah i escaped that room as fast as possible i was like i'm out i'm out yeah interesting to say what did you say joey
00:13:26
Speaker
I think Caleb got got by him too.
00:13:30
Speaker
He sniffed out the people that would be most uncomfortable.
00:13:35
Speaker
Literally, I think he sniffed to me.
00:13:36
Speaker
So I think another like highlight of that trail was that like sensory deprivation room is something that made it really different.
00:13:47
Speaker
I was gonna mention that.
00:13:48
Speaker
The classic jump scares.
00:13:49
Speaker
There was this room where you go in and it's completely dark and they had some sort of way of kind of removing
00:13:56
Speaker
sound like ambient sound and and you really couldn't even figure out where to walk because it was that dark and then all of a sudden somebody was just like whispering like right next to your ear and it was like whoa how did how did that happen there's really unique scare I was an anechoic chamber for the nerds out there like it was literally full of sound deadening foam and so you walked in there and just immediately like we're struck by an absence of sound it was wild
00:14:26
Speaker
I knew you would know more.
00:14:28
Speaker
Do you have anything to ask?
00:14:33
Speaker
I'm actually trying to look it up real quick.
00:14:37
Speaker
Mike, Tom, Mike, who are you today?
00:14:42
Speaker
Well, this man, Mike Tom, he had full-on chest pain for like two hours after this trail.
00:14:49
Speaker
I can actually find it.
00:14:50
Speaker
I had an elevated heart rate for three hours.
00:14:53
Speaker
Maybe it was too much pizza.
00:14:55
Speaker
No, absolutely it was not the pizza.
00:14:58
Speaker
I had a straight chest pain.
00:15:00
Speaker
Well, it probably was heartburn too.
00:15:03
Speaker
But it was not enjoyable for me.
00:15:06
Speaker
I kind of hated it.
00:15:07
Speaker
I wanted it to end after like five minutes.
00:15:09
Speaker
I would love to go back.
00:15:12
Speaker
I'll eat pizza and drink beer.
00:15:15
Speaker
I think it would be interesting to like, you know, it's hard and we'll get to this too.
00:15:20
Speaker
I'm sure when we talk about HHN, it's hard to like,
00:15:22
Speaker
remember everything that happens in one run through of any type of haunt.
00:15:27
Speaker
I'm curious how much it changes from year to year as well.
00:15:30
Speaker
Yeah, it's so long.
00:15:31
Speaker
Like how much can they really change between years?
00:15:34
Speaker
And I was, I was a little confused.
00:15:36
Speaker
Like, I think there was supposed to be a theme and maybe that was like the first half of it or part of it, but the second half definitely felt like different movie IPs.
00:15:43
Speaker
It was like a little disjointed in that way, but yeah.
00:15:47
Speaker
It was mostly movie IPs.
00:15:49
Speaker
I'm sure they just add whatever the new horror movie is or tweak it because they had Terrifier in there.
00:15:55
Speaker
It was some coven thing was supposed to be the... But anyways.
00:15:59
Speaker
I remember the second half being a lot longer than the first.
00:16:03
Speaker
Did any of you guys go down the slide?
00:16:10
Speaker
Did you get stuck?
00:16:10
Speaker
It was very uncomfortable.
00:16:11
Speaker
Yeah, I got stuck.
00:16:12
Speaker
And I think, who was in front of me?
00:16:14
Speaker
I think Simon was in front of me.
00:16:17
Speaker
And then Ethan is obviously a lot taller.
00:16:19
Speaker
And he had like the hardest time getting through.
00:16:22
Speaker
I couldn't get through because I'm like stuck behind him in the tube.
00:16:27
Speaker
Yeah, that was interesting.
00:16:28
Speaker
Oh, and then the exit.
00:16:29
Speaker
Do you remember the exit?
00:16:35
Speaker
We had to like crawl through like a tunnel, like a pipe thing.
00:16:39
Speaker
And then wasn't there a scare like right after that where you weren't expecting it?
00:16:42
Speaker
There's always something at the end.
00:16:43
Speaker
It's never over until it's like you're in your car on the way home.
00:16:48
Speaker
I think what's wild is I didn't even know that that slide was there until people were talking about it after the fact.
00:16:55
Speaker
I guess we were just, it was really dark in that room.
00:16:57
Speaker
It was the first one to see it and go down it.
00:16:59
Speaker
And then everybody kind of followed him.
00:17:01
Speaker
Well, I'm not surprised that Kelly didn't see it though.
00:17:07
Speaker
That's the thing about these local haunts, though.
00:17:10
Speaker
Obviously, they still feel safe, but there's some things that they can get away with that national haunts can't.
00:17:15
Speaker
You would never see a slide or a tunnel that you have to crawl through at one of these national parks.
00:17:23
Speaker
Because there were the stairs.
00:17:26
Speaker
The platforms that went over stuff.
00:17:27
Speaker
And then there were some really uneven pathways where we were shouting to each other, like, there's a step because you couldn't see anything.
00:17:35
Speaker
The wheelchair is making it through there.
Haunt Event Comparisons
00:17:45
Speaker
just to piggyback off of that, we all went to the next day, the haunt event at Lake Compounce, which existed.
00:17:59
Speaker
Some people may remember more than others.
00:18:03
Speaker
And I remember walking through one of them and I was like, I think I'm cured.
00:18:07
Speaker
I'm just not a bitch anymore.
00:18:08
Speaker
And you're like, no, there's just no scare actors here.
00:18:13
Speaker
To be fair, we have a whole time.
00:18:16
Speaker
Yeah, I was able to go through three of them.
00:18:19
Speaker
And the most impressive one was the 3D, like 4D experience with the 3D glasses.
00:18:26
Speaker
They had a really good scare in the first room because they just put you into this room and then a movie started playing.
00:18:30
Speaker
And you were like, do we just stand here?
00:18:32
Speaker
Do we not like walk through the house?
00:18:34
Speaker
And the next thing you know, there's like a scare actor bursting through the center of the screen at you.
00:18:38
Speaker
So I was like, that was creative.
00:18:39
Speaker
That was pretty cool.
00:18:40
Speaker
But otherwise, there was a lot of like black plywood walls and...
00:18:45
Speaker
sort of the semblance of a theme, I guess.
00:18:47
Speaker
I will say that the actors there were trying hard.
00:18:50
Speaker
They were into it, for sure.
00:18:53
Speaker
Yeah, I definitely didn't give it a fair chance.
00:18:55
Speaker
I didn't give it enough time or like... Mental capacity.
00:19:02
Speaker
Yeah, conscious thought.
00:19:05
Speaker
It did look like they had a lot of cool themed food and drink offerings, but I didn't experience any of those.
00:19:12
Speaker
I can't really comment on any of them, but
00:19:15
Speaker
Yeah, I'll just have to defer to you guys, whatever you say.
00:19:20
Speaker
I will say, though, that Lake Compounds has excellent vibes in the fall at night, like the way that the park is lit and the fog.
00:19:25
Speaker
And like, yeah, it's really, really cool.
00:19:28
Speaker
Very, very cool vibes.
00:19:33
Speaker
Tyler, have you what else have you been to this year?
00:19:36
Speaker
You went to California.
00:19:38
Speaker
Yeah, I've done a lot this year.
00:19:40
Speaker
So California, I went to Horror Nights at Hollywood, which I think that's a question.
00:19:45
Speaker
So I'll save a little bit of that for then.
00:19:48
Speaker
Went to Not Scary Farm, which was awesome.
00:19:51
Speaker
That was my first time there.
00:19:53
Speaker
Also did King's Dominion, as I do every year.
00:19:57
Speaker
It's always pretty solid.
00:19:58
Speaker
You know, it's not going to blow you away, but the actors get into it.
00:20:02
Speaker
The sets are pretty decent, has a good atmosphere.
00:20:05
Speaker
And I also did Hello Scream at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, which was absolutely horrible.
00:20:13
Speaker
Tell us more about, have any of you guys been to Not Scary Farm?
00:20:18
Speaker
Definitely a bucket list haunt for me.
00:20:22
Speaker
Yeah, so that's, I believe that's the original Haunt event.
00:20:26
Speaker
I think they said it's like 50 years they've been doing it or something.
00:20:30
Speaker
So it's obviously not on the level of Horror Nights.
00:20:34
Speaker
Like they just don't have the budget or the attendance for that.
00:20:37
Speaker
But for what they have, for the budget that they have, it was fantastic.
00:20:42
Speaker
The sets were great.
00:20:43
Speaker
The actors are so into it.
00:20:45
Speaker
I got the sense that the actors have been doing it for many years.
00:20:48
Speaker
I think they probably come back every year.
00:20:51
Speaker
But yeah, I think they had 10 houses, which was more than the Horror Nights in Hollywood.
00:20:58
Speaker
A couple new ones.
00:21:00
Speaker
And Ghost Town looked awesome the way it was lit up with fog and everything.
00:21:06
Speaker
So I definitely recommend if you're into spooky stuff, get out there at some point.
00:21:12
Speaker
Do the mazes go off property?
00:21:14
Speaker
Where do they fit 10 mazes in that park?
00:21:17
Speaker
I can speak to that because I worked at Knott's when I was...
00:21:22
Speaker
Um, that's actually what initially like screwed me up for spooky stuff.
00:21:25
Speaker
I went in 06, um, did not scary farm and I had a full fledged like panic attack, freak out the strobe lights.
00:21:34
Speaker
Like I could not move.
00:21:36
Speaker
And I like just shut down in the middle of the maze and like use the emergency exit.
00:21:40
Speaker
Cause I like, I just couldn't move.
00:21:44
Speaker
So ever since then, I've been just a spooky bitch.
00:21:47
Speaker
A lot of their backstage is like where they put everything.
00:21:53
Speaker
So it's all just in that backstage, like in the, you know, it's all temporary walls.
00:21:59
Speaker
They put them, um,
00:22:02
Speaker
Back by where the railroad or the train houses, they have it go back there.
00:22:08
Speaker
They have it go through the Accelerator queue, through Fiesta Village.
00:22:13
Speaker
There used to be one.
00:22:15
Speaker
Ghost Town, there was a couple.
00:22:17
Speaker
They used the Birdcage Theater.
00:22:18
Speaker
That was where they would have that go back.
00:22:20
Speaker
Behind the River Rapids, they'd have a maze go through Mystery Lodge.
00:22:28
Speaker
I don't even know if Mystery Lodge is still there.
00:22:31
Speaker
I just dated myself a little bit.
00:22:35
Speaker
They had mazes go through everywhere.
00:22:36
Speaker
So it was really cool back then.
00:22:39
Speaker
Yeah, Scary Farm was like the OG.
00:22:43
Speaker
But that's also why I became a scared little bitch with mazes.
00:22:47
Speaker
Yeah, Julie, they had six of them at that dead end by Ghost Rider.
00:22:51
Speaker
So if you walk past Ghost Rider and go all the way down, there's like an employee gate that they opened up.
00:22:57
Speaker
And I don't know exactly what it was taking up, but there was six in that corner there.
00:23:05
Speaker
Was it one queue or they have space to split it all up?
00:23:08
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, they're all split up.
00:23:10
Speaker
They have Q-lines backstage and everything.
00:23:11
Speaker
I'm not super familiar with the park, so I can't exactly say what backstage area it was in, but six of the 10 were all focused back there.
00:23:20
Speaker
Where the giga was going to be.
00:23:28
Speaker
That's my contribution.
00:23:32
Speaker
What was your favorite of them outside of HHN?
00:23:39
Speaker
I mean, actually, I liked Scary Farm better than HHN Hollywood.
00:23:45
Speaker
So, yeah, I would definitely say Scary Farm.
00:23:50
Speaker
Rafa, where else have you been?
00:23:52
Speaker
Besides Trail of Terror and HHN in Orlando, those are the only โ nothing else, really.
00:23:57
Speaker
Those are the only two I've been to this year, at least.
00:23:59
Speaker
I've been to Hollow Stream in Orlando and Tampa before, just not this season.
00:24:05
Speaker
Love the Tampa event, even though I've heard โ
00:24:08
Speaker
awful things about it now I'm hearing that it's not as good as it was before and Orlando was pretty solid last year and Joey I know you went and Tyler you went as well everyone's saying it's pretty solid this year in Orlando at least yeah but I've had great times at the Tampa event I just haven't gone in a couple years
00:24:31
Speaker
Yeah, I did Tampa not this year, but last year and I think the two years before.
00:24:38
Speaker
I think it is starting to go downhill a little bit, as with most seized things, honestly.
00:24:44
Speaker
But yeah, it's pretty solid, I would say, above average.
00:24:50
Speaker
It's a bummer to hear that it's not doing too well, though, because I feel like the location, like I feel like the Tampa Park is so dark at night.
00:24:56
Speaker
They can do so much with that space.
00:24:58
Speaker
And to hear that it's not doing so well, it sucks because they'll have people like hiding in the bushes and everything.
00:25:04
Speaker
And you just don't know where they are.
00:25:05
Speaker
And they'll be like whispering things to you and everything.
00:25:07
Speaker
Like it's so interactive.
00:25:09
Speaker
And I'm surprised that they're not like making that any better than what it was before.
00:25:15
Speaker
Yeah, that is a great, a great park for a haunt for sure.
00:25:18
Speaker
Yeah, it's so dark.
00:25:21
Speaker
Joey, do you want to tell us about SeaWorld?
00:25:23
Speaker
I think you're the only one here that went this past weekend.
00:25:26
Speaker
Yeah, a group of us went to Hello Scream at SeaWorld Orlando during Spooky Shindig on Saturday.
00:25:34
Speaker
I think we had like 10 people, maybe.
00:25:38
Speaker
And so the event starts at 7 and runs through midnight.
00:25:41
Speaker
So it's a shorter event than HHN for sure.
00:25:44
Speaker
There were five houses this year and I want to say five scare zones, maybe six.
00:25:51
Speaker
And overall, I would say like the event is the word I kept using was chaos while we were there.
00:25:59
Speaker
Like it's a lot more chaotic than HHN, even though like, I don't know, maybe some people find HHN chaotic in terms of crowds, but like SeaWorld Hallowscream was chaotic in terms of vibes.
00:26:10
Speaker
Like the scare zones around the park were actually really, really fun.
00:26:14
Speaker
And honestly, all of them were better than the ones at HHN.
00:26:18
Speaker
mostly just because the trail, like the pathways there.
00:26:21
Speaker
And this is surprising because when you're at SeaWorld during the day, like, I don't know, you would never think this, but like at night, just the way that they changed out all of the lighting to make it darker.
00:26:29
Speaker
And there's a lot of trees in some of the pathways.
00:26:32
Speaker
They used like the Shamu Stadium as one of them.
00:26:35
Speaker
And like, they were able to like make it kind of constrained with like walls built up and everything.
00:26:40
Speaker
And they all of the scare zones had like a lot of actors.
00:26:44
Speaker
And they were very engaging, like they were doing all different kinds of scares.
00:26:49
Speaker
They had like one that was, I guess, some kind of like, evil gardeners theme or something.
00:26:53
Speaker
And they like sprayed me with like fake poison.
00:26:56
Speaker
They had a leaf blower scare where they would like blow it up your, you know, shorts or whatever.
00:27:02
Speaker
Um, they have the sliders, which if you're familiar with hollow screen, that's a pretty common thing that they do where these, like they wear shin pads and like knee pads and stuff and they slide at you and it creates these sparks along the ground.
00:27:16
Speaker
Um, so yeah, the, the scare zone vibes and the, like the shows in the park, we, we actually saw two of the shows.
00:27:21
Speaker
Um, there's like a, um,
00:27:23
Speaker
Monster Stomp and Siren's Curse, I think it was called.
00:27:27
Speaker
One is like an indoor theater show, kind of similar to Nightmare Fuel.
00:27:30
Speaker
And the other one's like an outdoor one that's kind of just vibes and like music and that kind of thing.
00:27:36
Speaker
And all of that I thought was really well done.
00:27:38
Speaker
Now, the houses are obviously not on par with HHN.
00:27:43
Speaker
They were visibly lower budget.
00:27:47
Speaker
And there were some issues with staffing here and there.
00:27:51
Speaker
Not like terrible, terrible, but like every once in a while you'd like hit a blank space for a while and you're like, I'm missing like some action here.
00:27:58
Speaker
But my favorite one, which I think it was called Farm 51, it was kind of like this cornfield alien theme type thing that I actually would put that maybe over one of my lower ranked HHN houses because I thought it had a... It was long.
00:28:12
Speaker
It had a pretty cohesive theme and some cool effects in there.
00:28:16
Speaker
They had a dummy that was being teleported by the aliens to the sky with really good lighting, so it looked cool.
00:28:23
Speaker
And they had a lot of...
00:28:25
Speaker
I think like with HHN, a lot of the scares are audio recordings and in their houses, they don't do that really.
00:28:31
Speaker
There's like a couple here and there, but most of their stuff is literally just live actors, like screaming things at you or banging things or like throwing things in your face and all of that.
00:28:39
Speaker
So that seeing some of that like variety was kind of cool.
00:28:43
Speaker
Did they do the snort?
00:28:44
Speaker
The stupid, not that I can recall.
00:28:50
Speaker
That's the most annoying thing in the house is a snort.
00:28:54
Speaker
I always wonder what those live actors doing all of their own, um, like vocal scares, like how do they maintain that for a season?
00:29:03
Speaker
How, like if you're screaming that, like I, if we go to stumble and I scream for like a day, like my throat hurts for the next week.
00:29:11
Speaker
It helps that a lot of them are theater nerds who are used to like projecting and placing their voice.
00:29:16
Speaker
But you know, the other wild thing is like, you'll talk to a lot of them and they're like, oh yeah, I just like worked a day shift.
00:29:21
Speaker
And then they do Hallow Scream after it.
00:29:23
Speaker
So they're there all day.
00:29:24
Speaker
It is, I mean, it's gotta be completely exhausting.
00:29:28
Speaker
What about the themed bars?
00:29:29
Speaker
Did you guys partake?
00:29:36
Speaker
I already knew the answer to that.
00:29:41
Speaker
You can tell that like, yeah, there's definitely like a party, more party atmosphere there comparatively.
00:29:48
Speaker
And there's heavy pours in their drinks.
00:29:52
Speaker
They may not taste as good, but yeah.
00:29:55
Speaker
So the first bar that we went to was kind of like in their version of stay and scream where you're kind of hanging out before how a scream starts.
00:30:02
Speaker
And they had like a scare zone that was sort of like merged with the bar.
00:30:06
Speaker
So there were actually like actors hanging out at the bar and like making jokes.
00:30:10
Speaker
They were kind of like,
00:30:12
Speaker
That was kind of the theme.
00:30:14
Speaker
And so they were doing all these silly things.
Six Flags Fright Fest Critique
00:30:16
Speaker
when they first came out, it was, I think it was like 15 minutes before the event officially started.
00:30:21
Speaker
They slammed this massive wooden box right behind me and I was not facing them and it scared the crap out of me because it was so loud.
00:30:29
Speaker
I was like, oh, it started already, didn't it?
00:30:31
Speaker
And then later in the night, we went back to that same bar and they were doing like karaoke and everybody was like singing Journey and everything.
00:30:38
Speaker
It was, yeah, it was a good time.
00:30:40
Speaker
We visited like, I think just one or two.
00:30:42
Speaker
There was another one, which was an ice bar and they had like people dancing up on these platforms the whole time.
00:30:48
Speaker
And they just kept trading out.
00:30:49
Speaker
I was like, that's wild.
00:30:50
Speaker
This bar just has people dancing all night.
00:30:54
Speaker
Yeah, I feel like Hallowscream, like, they are, like, what they're lacking in the houses, they, like, make up for it in the energy, like, around the bars.
00:31:04
Speaker
And it's just fun that, like, there's so many scare zones that it's hard to walk anywhere without one.
00:31:09
Speaker
So you kind of have to be on guard all the time.
00:31:10
Speaker
Yeah, if you just want to party and vibe, Hallowscream is your place.
00:31:17
Speaker
And I mean, value wise, I think I paid like 35 bucks for that ticket.
00:31:21
Speaker
Also at the Seas Parks, your pass holder discount works for alcohol.
00:31:35
Speaker
So overall, I'd recommend it.
00:31:36
Speaker
It was a good time.
00:31:38
Speaker
Despite the houses not being amazing.
00:31:42
Speaker
I had a little bit of FOMO, but
00:31:44
Speaker
I'm glad I went back to HHN too.
00:31:46
Speaker
We'll talk about that.
00:31:47
Speaker
But we... I think all the other like spooky events that we have attended have been discussed from your point of view on the podcast.
00:31:56
Speaker
I'll just kind of briefly run through.
00:31:59
Speaker
We went to Dorney's Haunt early in the season.
00:32:03
Speaker
We went to the like RIP party that they had, which was really cool.
00:32:07
Speaker
They have like food and beverages and like a DJ kind of like kicking off the haunt season.
00:32:14
Speaker
only because we were on a time crunch, went into the one maze, Ghost in the Machine, which is right behind Iron Menace.
00:32:21
Speaker
They had it last year.
00:32:23
Speaker
A bunch of you guys probably did it when we were here before the Hershey Stumble.
00:32:30
Speaker
I guess Knott's, like, scare team kind of helped with the creation of that maze, and you can definitely tell it's elevated compared to the other mazes at Dorney, but, like, as an overall haunt at a regional...
00:32:43
Speaker
amusement park, I feel like Dorney does haunt really well.
00:32:46
Speaker
Like I always enjoy my time there.
00:32:48
Speaker
The scare zones are good.
00:32:50
Speaker
The mazes are pretty well staffed.
00:32:52
Speaker
They have good seasonal offerings.
00:32:55
Speaker
So I actually put Dorney's haunt above a lot of other theme park haunts or amusement park haunts, including Hershey, which we didn't go to this year, but we did do some of the mazes last year at the stumble.
00:33:10
Speaker
We also did Reese more recently.
00:33:18
Speaker
What is it called there?
00:33:20
Speaker
Fright Fest is extreme.
00:33:21
Speaker
I had to add an extreme on the end.
00:33:23
Speaker
Just to underwhelm you.
00:33:24
Speaker
It was extremely weak, unfortunately.
00:33:29
Speaker
And I'm not trying to like be a spooky girl elitist here, but like it was...
00:33:38
Speaker
It was really... You can tell that there's just very minimal budget spent on this event.
00:33:43
Speaker
The houses... Some of the houses had a total of three or four scare actors in the entire thing.
00:33:49
Speaker
You would walk through and be like, what's going on?
00:33:51
Speaker
I'm just looking at these...
00:33:53
Speaker
very minimal set pieces, open rooms.
00:33:56
Speaker
Some of them were like picnic pavilions that were turned into mazes where they like didn't have a roof.
00:34:01
Speaker
So you could like still see like out and around.
00:34:06
Speaker
They got a lot of IPs this year that were new, which kind of is what drew me to want to go check the event out.
00:34:11
Speaker
Like they have Stranger Things now and they have a bunch of like, they have always, I think, had Saw, but they have like Texas Chainsaw and a whole bunch of other
00:34:21
Speaker
IPs that that seemed interesting.
00:34:23
Speaker
It was just the event in general really fell short.
00:34:26
Speaker
There were like very minimal scares, just seemed a little bit lackluster and probably not something that I would return to.
00:34:34
Speaker
And we, we shelled out a little bit to have like the equivalent of Express there for when we went there nine
00:34:42
Speaker
houses and we got through them in like three and a half hours but we still had to wait like fairly long for like the second half of them and if we didn't have express i truly think we would have made it through like two houses the entire night so it's just like jam-packed we went on a saturday in october maybe that was our mistake but um it was rough it was rough and they had some of the rides open at six flags during it but the lines were all like two hours long we only rode king to ca and
00:35:09
Speaker
And I'm glad that was our move considering all the happenings over there, but we couldn't ride anything else.
00:35:16
Speaker
And that's a paid event even without Express, right?
00:35:20
Speaker
So you're, you can be in the event with your pass or your day ticket.
00:35:25
Speaker
Like we have, we have past season passes.
00:35:27
Speaker
So we were allowed in the event, but it's an upcharge to enter any of the houses.
00:35:31
Speaker
You have to have like a, I forget what it was called exactly, but it was like a scare house or scare pass or something like that.
00:35:41
Speaker
which we just purchased instead of the regular one you could purchase it with express so i think the regular one was maybe like 45 or 50 for saturday night on top of your like already season pass that you paid for we paid 90 per ticket for it to include express and there were even like levels above that like a private tours like kind of like an rip type experience um that's more than i paid for my annual pass
00:36:06
Speaker
Yeah, that's wild.
00:36:07
Speaker
I mean, and the other thing is like a lot of these IPs were used to associating with HHN who uses them.
00:36:13
Speaker
And I don't know, I've just always felt like the IPs are wanting to like protect their brand.
00:36:17
Speaker
And when you hear like HHN podcasts and they talk about it, they're always talking about the involvement from those IPs and like them wanting to get it right.
00:36:25
Speaker
And then you see this at Six Flags and you're like, did they not care?
00:36:28
Speaker
Like what happened?
00:36:29
Speaker
I immediately thought about that with Stranger Things because like a lot of people I think
00:36:33
Speaker
I considered last year's Stranger Things house to be like, I really loved it.
00:36:38
Speaker
I love Stranger Things, like the nostalgia around it.
00:36:41
Speaker
But like, I think overall in the community, it was regarded as one of the weaker houses.
00:36:47
Speaker
But there was like so much discussion about like what they were allowed and not allowed to do.
00:36:51
Speaker
Like people wanted that guitar scene to be like right out of the show.
00:36:55
Speaker
But, you know, people were saying that.
00:36:58
Speaker
Stranger Things didn't want them to use or they weren't allowed to use like the actual song and music.
00:37:04
Speaker
And that's why it was like such short segments of the music used and just like very stringent regulations when they're working with those IPs.
00:37:12
Speaker
This Stranger Things
Local Haunts & Unique Scares
00:37:13
Speaker
house at Big Flags was the worst of all the houses by far.
00:37:15
Speaker
It was in a pavilion.
00:37:18
Speaker
The pathways that you walk through were like six feet wide.
00:37:21
Speaker
It was basically like you walk through like a gym and a cafeteria and like a hall of lockers.
00:37:27
Speaker
I saw two scare actors and like one fake Demogorgon.
00:37:31
Speaker
oof i watched a video like a vecna is the vecna like there's like a vecna statue at the end there was like a statue of vecna that didn't do anything it was just like standing there yes with no context so there was also a demodog that was on like a track where like the track was like very very visible as it's like jumping out it's like oh yeah that's so bad
00:37:56
Speaker
Not to hate too much.
00:37:58
Speaker
No, don't feel bad at Six Flies.
00:38:02
Speaker
No hate to the scare actors because I know they work hard.
00:38:06
Speaker
They do their best.
00:38:07
Speaker
It's more just the costuming and the set design.
00:38:10
Speaker
No hate to the scare actors ever.
00:38:13
Speaker
I admire all of the hardware.
00:38:15
Speaker
I would love to try to do that for a day.
00:38:17
Speaker
That's like a dream.
00:38:19
Speaker
I could never do that day in and day out.
00:38:21
Speaker
Stay up that late.
00:38:25
Speaker
Are you laughing at a stand-up?
00:38:26
Speaker
Yeah, you'd be asleep standing there at like 10, 15.
00:38:29
Speaker
You'd be catching flies at 10, 15.
00:38:33
Speaker
I do love to sleep.
00:38:34
Speaker
The statue is really good, and you're just standing there.
00:38:38
Speaker
Giving Becca a run for his money.
00:38:40
Speaker
I really thought that was a breathing person.
00:38:43
Speaker
I can't believe they didn't try to scare me.
00:38:47
Speaker
The opposite of that creature on the desk in a museum.
00:38:52
Speaker
We'll talk about that.
00:38:54
Speaker
The other event that we went to this year was a local haunt, Lehigh Valley Scream Park, which is only like 15, 20 minutes away from where we live.
00:39:02
Speaker
It's relatively new in the last couple of years.
00:39:04
Speaker
I know you talked a lot about it.
00:39:05
Speaker
I had no idea this thing existed.
00:39:06
Speaker
I literally typed in like Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, local haunts.
00:39:10
Speaker
And this came up as like the number one haunted attraction in Pennsylvania.
00:39:13
Speaker
And I was like, what the heck?
00:39:14
Speaker
This is 15 minutes away.
00:39:18
Speaker
And obviously he didn't want to go, but I convinced him.
00:39:22
Speaker
This was actually the date night we went on when he was not on the podcast and Mikhail was.
00:39:27
Speaker
So we went to this local haunt.
00:39:30
Speaker
They had a hayride, a like haunted corn maze type thing, and then two houses.
00:39:35
Speaker
And then they had this like giant fire pit, like hangout area in the middle with like some games and drink booths and food.
00:39:42
Speaker
It was like really well done in the middle of somebody's farm.
00:39:44
Speaker
Like, I don't know how it started a couple of years ago, but I was so impressed for what it was and not even like knowing like people in this area weren't really talking about it.
00:39:54
Speaker
I was so surprised and it was relatively not crowded on a Friday night in October.
00:39:59
Speaker
So hopefully they're doing well and they continue to have this event because it was...
00:40:04
Speaker
And I don't really get scared often.
00:40:06
Speaker
Like I really enjoy being scared.
00:40:08
Speaker
And I was scared at this event.
00:40:10
Speaker
Like they did a lot beyond jump scares.
00:40:13
Speaker
They did a lot of like body manipulation.
00:40:15
Speaker
I think you talked about this on the podcast.
00:40:17
Speaker
I didn't listen to the whole thing, but a lot of like hallways where there were pads that kind of forced you to crouch down or forced you to walk sideways.
00:40:25
Speaker
And it felt really claustrophobic and that kind of stuff.
00:40:29
Speaker
scares me, you know, sometimes more than a jump scare does.
00:40:32
Speaker
So it was really unique.
00:40:34
Speaker
And I really enjoyed that.
00:40:35
Speaker
I would love if we do an event in this area in the fall to like go as a group there.
00:40:40
Speaker
I think it would be really fun.
00:40:44
Speaker
Yeah, please stand back.
00:40:47
Speaker
No, that is a fun thing about local haunts, though.
00:40:50
Speaker
I guess everybody Google, you know, Google your area because you never know there could be something really cool nearby.
00:40:54
Speaker
And like you said, I feel like they often can get away with things that, you know, like a major theme park can't.
00:41:01
Speaker
And is that feeling of like unease?
00:41:04
Speaker
That's something that I miss, like from the theme park houses.
00:41:06
Speaker
I often don't really feel that uneasy.
00:41:08
Speaker
I'll get jump scared, but I'm not like nervous in there.
00:41:11
Speaker
But like some, sometimes that trail of terror and like some of those other local haunts, you're like, Oh, like this is a little off.
00:41:16
Speaker
I'm, I'm feeling uneasy.
00:41:19
Speaker
Like what are they going to do?
00:41:21
Speaker
There are certainly haunts out there that like people are allowed to touch you.
00:41:24
Speaker
Like a lot of them, you can sign a waiver and like you can, this wasn't that way.
00:41:29
Speaker
It said like, we won't touch you.
00:41:30
Speaker
Please don't touch us.
00:41:31
Speaker
But they were like really up.
00:41:33
Speaker
Like they were basically touching you without touching you, which is like something different and,
00:41:40
Speaker
I got touched on that.
00:41:42
Speaker
It was probably by accident.
00:41:43
Speaker
No, it was like, they were grabbing my leg.
00:41:45
Speaker
It was like, oh, no.
00:41:49
Speaker
So even though, like, I would call myself a spooky bitch, I don't know if I would do, have you guys heard about those haunts where they go really extreme?
00:41:56
Speaker
Like, they'll shave your head, they'll dunk your head in water, like,
00:42:00
Speaker
It's like really hardcore.
00:42:01
Speaker
Like it's a whole experience, like a whole horror movie experience.
00:42:04
Speaker
I think there's one where they like pull teeth and that is like you sign it away and they can pull your teeth.
00:42:14
Speaker
Like you're going to get beat up and like, yeah.
00:42:17
Speaker
Like there's one in California that goes really hard.
00:42:20
Speaker
And I think there were like some legal issues with them because they were like taking things too far, even like beyond the waiver that people signed.
00:42:26
Speaker
And like people were having to get like medevaced out of there because they were like so like anxious and like, yeah.
00:42:32
Speaker
So there's some, there's some demented people out there that are actually just like trying to do this to people.
00:42:38
Speaker
If I have to sign a waiver, I don't think I'm doing it.
00:42:45
Speaker
I'm censoring myself.
00:42:48
Speaker
Yeah, that's wild.
00:42:50
Speaker
I feel like I am always looking for things to be increasingly scary, but there's a limit on that for sure.
00:42:57
Speaker
There's definitely a line, and I think pulling teeth is certainly a line.
00:43:01
Speaker
I feel like the reason why I feel like
00:43:08
Speaker
not as scared at these events though is because I know that like it's safe and they're not gonna like at HHN it's hard for me to get scared because I'm like everything is fine like I know this is like they really have to have to have a good jump scare to get me there but I still really enjoy it do you guys feel like
00:43:24
Speaker
The characters are do you say scare actors or scare actors?
00:43:28
Speaker
First off, scare actors.
00:43:30
Speaker
I think scare actors, scare actors.
00:43:34
Speaker
I listen to say scare actors either way.
00:43:39
Speaker
Those people, do you feel like they can kind of vibe off of you and tell if you are easily spooked or not?
00:43:51
Speaker
Because I feel like I'm not targeted because I feel like I have a pretty chill, like I'm not afraid vibe and then I don't get scares.
00:44:00
Speaker
I mean, I, so I worked in one of the mazes at Hallow Scream at Busch Gardens Williamsburg years ago, and I was stationed at like a corner and there was a scare actor, obviously on the end of that corner.
00:44:12
Speaker
And I noticed like, you know, he would go after people, like he would hear the groups coming and you could tell the vibe of the group just like by hearing it before they got there.
00:44:20
Speaker
Like if they were really quiet, you know, maybe not, but you would hear like these people like screaming already headed your way and you're like, Oh, I'm going to get these people.
00:44:31
Speaker
So I, I recognized
Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) Experiences
00:44:32
Speaker
that like partway through HHN and I was like, should I appear scared?
00:44:38
Speaker
Should I try to go through the house like I'm scared?
00:44:42
Speaker
I mean... Yes, do that.
00:44:44
Speaker
I had to... I couldn't see much inside the Insidious house, so I had to grab onto Joey's shoulders when we went through that first run-through, and I guess maybe because they saw me holding onto his shoulders and, like... Oh, you were targeted, sir.
00:44:56
Speaker
You were targeted.
00:44:56
Speaker
I was targeted the entire time.
00:44:57
Speaker
You cuddled holding onto your shoulders.
00:44:59
Speaker
And then I missed all of them because you were behind me.
00:45:02
Speaker
So you just kept getting my screams right in time.
00:45:04
Speaker
I was just like, well, the Rafa's getting hit right now.
00:45:08
Speaker
I saw a couple of good ones on you, though.
00:45:09
Speaker
But yeah, I guess because I was holding on to his shoulders, they just went for it.
00:45:13
Speaker
So I guess they look for little things like that.
00:45:17
Speaker
Well, I guess this is a good segue since we've started talking about it.
00:45:22
Speaker
We're going to talk a lot about HHN.
00:45:26
Speaker
So I figured, and I think we kind of like talked about this a little bit when we did our introductions, but just like, what is your history with HHN?
00:45:35
Speaker
Like how long have you been going?
00:45:36
Speaker
How many events have you been to?
00:45:38
Speaker
I guess we could start there.
00:45:39
Speaker
Do you want to start?
00:45:43
Speaker
I'll fill in my five seconds of talking.
00:45:48
Speaker
Like I said at the beginning, I went to HHN Hollywood in 08.
00:45:52
Speaker
And then I didn't go back.
00:45:53
Speaker
Also, I did just do research by the way, while I've been sitting here pulling a mark.
00:45:58
Speaker
Um, it was in the queue for the mummy and it was, um, rated the number one house in 07.
00:46:05
Speaker
So they brought it back.
00:46:06
Speaker
They only had four houses that year in 08 at HHN.
00:46:11
Speaker
Um, I think I did two of them and the, uh, trail, the tram thingy.
00:46:18
Speaker
But now I've gone to HHN the past three years.
00:46:24
Speaker
Against your will.
00:46:27
Speaker
I wonder why I've gone to HHN for three years in a row.
00:46:30
Speaker
Did something happen in your life?
00:46:35
Speaker
Yeah, I've only been going to HHN Orlando for the last three years as well.
00:46:39
Speaker
The first year, I bought tickets not knowing that he was going to not really want to go.
00:46:46
Speaker
I was like, surprise, I got us tickets to go to HHN.
00:46:48
Speaker
And he was like, oh, cool.
00:46:54
Speaker
He was so psyched.
00:46:56
Speaker
We met up with our buddy James Larson and his daughter Mia Larson.
00:47:01
Speaker
Um, and we made it through like three quarter of the houses that night.
00:47:05
Speaker
I like had followed the event a little bit in the past and like obviously knew about it, but like was not as well versed in like how to get through stuff, like didn't know how many houses there were in scare zones and like all the stuff that goes into HHN.
00:47:18
Speaker
So I kind of went in pretty blind, loved it, became obsessed with it.
00:47:22
Speaker
And the past two years I've been following a lot more closely and
00:47:26
Speaker
consuming a lot of HHN related media.
00:47:28
Speaker
I listen to like probably six or seven different HHN podcasts.
00:47:34
Speaker
I have to do it on like double speed to get through everything in a week.
00:47:38
Speaker
And I just do like a lot of prep work and planning for sadly only very minimal time spent at the actual event, but I really enjoy it.
00:47:53
Speaker
I was like, wait, my turn?
00:47:56
Speaker
So, as I said earlier, I've been going since 2009.
00:48:00
Speaker
2009 was my first year going.
00:48:01
Speaker
And I didn't make it to 2010, but then 2011 onward, I've been going ever since.
00:48:09
Speaker
My first year going was actually, if you guys are familiar with the icons from AKHN's past, I was there when that first event that I went to was actually the Usher's year.
00:48:21
Speaker
So they had that icon.
00:48:23
Speaker
Oh, I'm just saying a bunch of ums.
00:48:26
Speaker
I'm sorry about that.
00:48:27
Speaker
Who am I pulling right now?
00:48:28
Speaker
Who's the one that's always saying ums?
00:48:32
Speaker
But I didn't even notice I was doing it again.
00:48:34
Speaker
But yeah, so I've been going since 2009.
00:48:37
Speaker
2011 was when I started going consecutively.
00:48:40
Speaker
And it's been great.
00:48:42
Speaker
I've been going ever since.
00:48:43
Speaker
I've seen it change to what it is now.
00:48:46
Speaker
I will say that I do think that the event isn't as strong as it used to be.
00:48:54
Speaker
I feel like before they would put as much attention to the, I mean, we'll go into further detail, but just a small, you know, a quick way of saying it.
00:49:03
Speaker
I do feel like they've been focusing less on the scare zones and more on the houses.
00:49:07
Speaker
I, I feel like there isn't much going on in the streets compared to before, like before you would have as many scare zones as there were houses.
00:49:16
Speaker
And now you're getting like,
00:49:18
Speaker
what, like half of the amount when it comes to scare zones.
00:49:22
Speaker
So it's changed a lot since, but I still love it.
00:49:25
Speaker
I still come back every year.
00:49:26
Speaker
You know, it never changes for me.
00:49:28
Speaker
And you went a lot this year, right?
00:49:31
Speaker
So I actually got the Russia Fear Pass.
00:49:35
Speaker
And that is a great deal.
00:49:37
Speaker
I always, I tell everybody to get that or the frequent fear.
00:49:42
Speaker
I know Tyler knew you had the frequent fear, but the rush of fear allows you access to every event night for the first four weeks of the event.
00:49:50
Speaker
And it's a pretty good deal.
00:49:52
Speaker
I think it's about one year.
00:49:55
Speaker
no i think it's like 180 or so which is great because you're getting like what 29 almost like 20 nights yeah that's good value for local for sure you have a good yeah it's it worked out great um and yeah it was i did seven visits this season so i did nice i did two weekends three nights each and then one night this past weekend
00:50:21
Speaker
Do you feel like the event changes over time?
00:50:24
Speaker
Like, did you notice any differences?
00:50:26
Speaker
So, I mean, for this season, I don't think there were many changes.
00:50:30
Speaker
With the streets, I think it all stayed the same, to be honest.
00:50:34
Speaker
But with some houses, I did notice a different, like, I did experience it differently.
00:50:38
Speaker
Like, I do think that, and we'll go into more detail later, but major suites, I had one opinion going into it after the first two weekends that I went, and then this past weekend, my opinion changed quite a bit for it.
00:50:51
Speaker
So, certain things change, certain things stay the same.
00:50:54
Speaker
It really depends.
00:50:58
Speaker
Yeah, I've always been curious how they tweak things throughout the event.
00:51:02
Speaker
Because it's, what, over a month long now, like a month and a half long.
00:51:08
Speaker
Two and a half months long.
00:51:09
Speaker
It's like end of August now.
00:51:11
Speaker
It's got to be one of the longest, like, at least seasonal horror events out there.
00:51:16
Speaker
Yeah, a lot of the, they discuss that a lot in the podcasts I listen to, like how the event changes throughout the season or how they
00:51:23
Speaker
add some things, take some things away based on how people are experiencing it.
00:51:28
Speaker
And a lot of people recommend kind of going toward the end of the season, which I thought, you know, my, the first two years I went, we went kind of smack dab in the middle of the season, like early October.
00:51:37
Speaker
And obviously this year we couldn't get there until the last weekend, which hard to compare season to season, like how the seasonality.
00:51:46
Speaker
We went the same weekend the past two years.
00:51:48
Speaker
The past two, but this one was the end of it.
00:51:52
Speaker
I don't, I obviously can't compare it to earlier this season, but I felt like there's gotta be some, some level of like the actors knowing that this is the end and some, some energy around that too.
00:52:04
Speaker
So I thought that was, yeah.
00:52:08
Speaker
So I've been going every year since 2018.
00:52:10
Speaker
That was my first year.
00:52:13
Speaker
Um, and that's between Hollywood and Orlando.
00:52:15
Speaker
I think it was 2019.
00:52:16
Speaker
I only did Hollywood.
00:52:18
Speaker
Didn't make it down to Orlando.
00:52:22
Speaker
But yeah, I don't really do too much research into what's going on ahead of time.
00:52:26
Speaker
Kelly, you kind of did the work for us this time around.
00:52:29
Speaker
But yeah, I just like to kind of go in, not completely blind, but mostly blind.
00:52:36
Speaker
I'll just read the description so I have an idea of what's going on in the house and then go from there.
00:52:41
Speaker
But I think I went...
00:52:43
Speaker
I had the frequent fear pass, so I went six full nights in Orlando this year, and then a couple nights I popped in just for like stay and scream and then left.
00:52:52
Speaker
So I feel like I got a pretty good idea of how everything went this year.
00:52:56
Speaker
And I would say this is the first year I really went further in depth on everything.
00:53:01
Speaker
So I think that's only going to continue later on.
00:53:10
Speaker
So my history with the event, I guess I became aware of it a long time ago, like when I was going to Hallow Scream in Williamsburg as like a teenager, like being interested in that event.
00:53:22
Speaker
I don't even know how I found it, but I found it on the Internet somehow.
00:53:25
Speaker
And I was like, oh, look at this cool thing that they're doing down in Universal.
00:53:29
Speaker
And it's not something I ever made it out to, but I was just aware of like, I remember even watching the website as if I was going to go like seeing all of the cool mazes that they were doing.
00:53:39
Speaker
I talked about this recently with someone, but one that I specifically remember from like back in the day is
00:53:44
Speaker
It was a 2005 maze in Poseidon's Fury called Terror Minds, where they gave like every 12 people a headlamp, like to go through this very dark maze.
00:53:55
Speaker
And it would like flicker and go out at times, like they had it programmed to do that.
00:54:00
Speaker
And I was like, that is wild.
00:54:02
Speaker
And I'm kind of sad that I missed some of that era of HHN, like when it was a little bit more like
00:54:08
Speaker
I don't want to say grassroots because obviously Universal has a ton of money, but they were sort of like still figuring out kind of doing experimental kinds of things and probably didn't have the kind of attendance that they do now.
00:54:17
Speaker
So they had like a little more leeway to kind of have fun with it and do weird stuff like that.
00:54:22
Speaker
But my last year at the event or my first year at the event was last year in 2023 for HHN 32 at y'all's bachelorette party.
00:54:33
Speaker
Somehow I made that happen.
00:54:35
Speaker
I made our joint bachelor, bachelorette party at HHN.
00:54:40
Speaker
It's not very nice.
00:54:41
Speaker
We did other stuff too.
00:54:44
Speaker
I forgot to say my first year, the reason I went is because I saw there was a Stranger Things house.
00:54:49
Speaker
And I was a big Stranger Things fan, still am.
00:54:53
Speaker
So that's what got me down the first year.
00:55:01
Speaker
Yeah, I'm excited to see after this.
00:55:03
Speaker
I don't even know.
00:55:04
Speaker
Do you guys know when Stranger Things the last season is coming out?
00:55:10
Speaker
I think they said late next year or early 26.
00:55:14
Speaker
Like they're still filming it right now.
00:55:18
Speaker
But probably not a house.
00:55:19
Speaker
It won't be a house until 25.
00:55:25
Speaker
Do you guys, and maybe this is just because I consume so much
00:55:30
Speaker
stuff before I go.
00:55:31
Speaker
Do any of you guys do spoilers beforehand or do you go in completely?
00:55:37
Speaker
I try to go blindly.
00:55:39
Speaker
Like if I see anything on TikTok, I'll put like hide or like not interested on every single post that I would see.
00:55:45
Speaker
Shut up, algorithm.
00:55:46
Speaker
I'm like, stop listening to my conversations.
00:55:49
Speaker
But yeah, I would like make sure I don't see any of that prior to going.
00:55:52
Speaker
And then after I go, then whatever, it doesn't matter.
00:55:55
Speaker
But for the most part, I try to like ignore any potential spoilers, you know, on any platform.
00:56:03
Speaker
I'll do spoilers as far as reviews.
00:56:05
Speaker
I don't ever watch any POVs or walkthroughs or anything like that, which I don't know if they really even have those that are allowed.
00:56:12
Speaker
But yeah, I'll do like the reviews just so I can kind of get a sense of what people think of each one and get some of the background story.
00:56:20
Speaker
And honestly, I forget a lot of it by the time I get there.
00:56:23
Speaker
It just helps build the hype for me.
00:56:25
Speaker
There are definitely some YouTube channels that I think like
00:56:28
Speaker
on the media night event of the season, they're allowed to form film like partial walkthroughs.
00:56:32
Speaker
Like I never watched those.
00:56:34
Speaker
I do watch them after sometimes if I'm like trying to remember what, what a house was like, but I do the same thing.
00:56:40
Speaker
I do spoilers with like the reviews and I try to just like skip over if they're talking like about specific things in the houses, but it definitely like listening to people's reviews, definitely.
00:56:53
Speaker
creates like a bias.
00:56:54
Speaker
Like I went in, you know, at the beginning of the season, I made my hype list.
00:56:57
Speaker
And then after, you know, listening to other people's reviews, that list changed.
00:57:01
Speaker
And then my actual opinions were like completely different from what I expected because of what I had heard.
00:57:06
Speaker
So I think maybe next year I'll try, depending on when we get there.
00:57:09
Speaker
It was hard because I knew we weren't getting there until the very end of the season.
00:57:12
Speaker
I didn't want to like miss the whole HHN experience by just like waiting to the end.
00:57:17
Speaker
But I do try to like watch the movies of the IPs.
00:57:22
Speaker
especially if I haven't watched them in a long time before I go.
00:57:25
Speaker
Like we watched Quiet Place and Ghostbusters.
00:57:29
Speaker
We didn't watch Insidious because you really didn't want to.
00:57:32
Speaker
And I just didn't have time to.
00:57:33
Speaker
But I've seen Insidious before.
00:57:34
Speaker
We need to clarify that story for a second.
00:57:38
Speaker
I turned on Insidious.
00:57:39
Speaker
It was evening time.
00:57:41
Speaker
It was like eight o'clock.
00:57:42
Speaker
We're trying to find something to watch.
00:57:44
Speaker
I said, I'll watch it with you.
00:57:46
Speaker
And you're like, no, I don't want to watch this this close to bed.
00:57:49
Speaker
So let's turn on something else.
00:57:50
Speaker
Well, it's like 10 p.m.
00:57:51
Speaker
It's like, I'm going to have nightmares.
00:57:54
Speaker
So then we watched Love is Blood UK.
00:57:57
Speaker
That's literally it.
00:58:05
Speaker
I feel like I kind of try to tread the balance between Kelly's like preparation and doing nothing.
00:58:12
Speaker
I do feel like you kind of, it's helpful to know the story.
00:58:16
Speaker
Like what, what is this maze about before you go into it?
00:58:19
Speaker
So I try to listen to like the universal podcast or do some reading about what these mazes are in the first place.
00:58:26
Speaker
Because that definitely gives you, I don't know, just some additional concept of what's going to happen.
00:58:32
Speaker
And I don't think it overly sets expectations, but for some of them, the storyline can be difficult to follow.
00:58:39
Speaker
And so it kind of gives you a little bit of a prompt to be like, oh, I'm following it as I'm going through.
00:58:44
Speaker
I think it helps if you know you have limited time at the event.
00:58:47
Speaker
Like for you, you only had one through each house, one through each house.
00:58:51
Speaker
Like if you had no idea what was going on, I feel like it's so easy to miss a lot of the detail.
00:58:56
Speaker
Because I mean, they put a ton of detail and that's like the most impressive thing about it to me is just like the sets are incredible.
00:59:02
Speaker
And I only watched one of the movies, though.
00:59:05
Speaker
I did A Quiet Place, and I feel like I should have watched Insidious because I think that would have helped.
00:59:09
Speaker
So maybe in the future, I'll do a little bit more of that.
00:59:11
Speaker
But definitely avoiding the spoilers.
00:59:13
Speaker
I wouldn't want to see pictures of the mazes or video of the mazes or any of that stuff before.
00:59:17
Speaker
I just enjoy like getting a little bit of the backstories and then hearing a little bit from the community about like what they think, just to have an idea of like, you know, what to expect with some of them.
00:59:27
Speaker
And then of course we'll talk about it, but like, I feel like even then sometimes you're what, how it turns out is completely different than, you know, the hype that's been set for things.
00:59:35
Speaker
And I think that doing your homework like definitely helps out.
00:59:37
Speaker
I mean, not spoiler wise, but like if you're looking at like if you're watching the movies prior to going, that definitely makes the experience a lot more exciting.
00:59:47
Speaker
I know many people that I mean, I've watched all the Quiet Place movies, but I know people that went into the maze of the haunted house and they didn't like it and they didn't really know what was going on because they didn't see the movie.
00:59:57
Speaker
Yeah, you'd be so confused by that house if you hadn't seen the movie.
01:00:02
Speaker
Why is it so quiet?
01:00:03
Speaker
What is happening?
01:00:04
Speaker
Hopefully they at least knew the concept.
01:00:06
Speaker
But yeah, I went in.
01:00:07
Speaker
I only saw the first movie.
01:00:09
Speaker
And I feel like I knew the concept.
01:00:11
Speaker
I knew the plot of the first one.
01:00:12
Speaker
Because I think it was based on one and two, right?
01:00:15
Speaker
So I never saw the second one.
01:00:17
Speaker
I don't feel like that took away from my experience.
01:00:20
Speaker
You only need to know what it's about, basically.
01:00:24
Speaker
Yeah, today I was listening to one of my favorite HHN podcasts.
01:00:28
Speaker
It's very similar to TDR.
01:00:30
Speaker
It's called Fear and Beer.
01:00:34
Speaker
I'm obsessed with that podcast.
01:00:35
Speaker
They did one of the unmasking tours, like the six house unmasking tour, and they were going through, they waited till the end of the season to post about it because it was very spoiler filled, obviously, but I was listening to it and I was like,
01:00:48
Speaker
oh my God, all of these things.
01:00:50
Speaker
I like saw 10% of the stuff that like they're talking about in this.
01:00:54
Speaker
And it's just like wild how much detail you miss.
01:00:57
Speaker
And it makes me like want to be at the event more, but it's obviously that's hard.
01:01:03
Speaker
I didn't read until afterwards that apparently major suites had like guest interactive buttons.
01:01:10
Speaker
Did you guys hear about that?
01:01:11
Speaker
Yeah, it pushed it.
01:01:14
Speaker
Oh, what did it do?
01:01:18
Speaker
Somebody in front of us in the group got like fog shot on them.
01:01:22
Speaker
It's like, um, like a vomit trigger.
01:01:26
Speaker
I somehow completely missed that.
01:01:28
Speaker
So it's stuff like that.
01:01:29
Speaker
You know, if you don't do your homework and you can miss it.
01:01:33
Speaker
I also think it's really fun.
01:01:35
Speaker
It's not really spoilery, but some of the like Easter eggs, like I like to read about that, but you kind of toe that line then of getting spoilers.
01:01:42
Speaker
Like every year the houses have code names this year, they were all desserts.
01:01:47
Speaker
So I had heard that every house had the dessert of their code name somewhere hidden in it, which I was like trying to look for, but obviously did you find any, the only one that was clear was there was in,
01:02:01
Speaker
triplets of terror i believe the code name was fudge and there was like a chocolate cake on one of the like counters somewhere that i think was probably that but i didn't i didn't really catch any other ones that feels like a fourth or fifth run kind of thing to be looking for yeah or like later and we just didn't have that luxury unfortunately cool to like read about there's so much that clearly goes into the development of all the houses
01:02:27
Speaker
Do we talk more about it?
01:02:29
Speaker
Yeah, I was going to say, do we want to dive into each house?
01:02:33
Speaker
Do you guys want to, do we want to like, I figured it would be a little hard to talk about like spooky shindig and how they, I mean, I guess briefly we can talk about how the experience overall went before we go into each house.
01:02:44
Speaker
And then I figured since we all kind of did different things, we could just go clockwise.
01:02:49
Speaker
But does somebody want to like, do you want to, do you want to summarize?
01:02:53
Speaker
Does somebody want to summarize how it went?
01:02:56
Speaker
I mean, Kelly, you had a plan.
01:02:59
Speaker
We were ready to go.
01:03:00
Speaker
We had actually, sorry, not one plan.
01:03:02
Speaker
We had three plans.
01:03:02
Speaker
We had A, B, and C, depending on the time that we made it to Nightmare Fuel.
01:03:07
Speaker
And Kelly's very good at this.
01:03:08
Speaker
She looks at Thrill Data and gathers everything and is ready to go.
01:03:12
Speaker
Like we knew exactly what time the queue was going to dip at Insidious.
01:03:15
Speaker
And the funny thing about it was we had backup plans for being late and we ended up early.
01:03:23
Speaker
So we were like an hour ahead of schedule most of the night and ended up reconfiguring some things.
01:03:27
Speaker
But I think it still really worked out well.
01:03:28
Speaker
Like the fact that we were able to be ahead, it was kind of awesome.
01:03:32
Speaker
And we got really lucky with the scream early experience, I would say.
01:03:36
Speaker
Like the queues were less than we expected for sure.
01:03:40
Speaker
Like we got through Ghostbusters really quickly, which was our first maze.
01:03:43
Speaker
And that's the reason why we decided to like skip ahead to Insidious and like keep things rolling.
01:03:48
Speaker
And I think that worked out well for us in the end of the day.
01:03:51
Speaker
We got super lucky on crowds.
01:03:53
Speaker
Like you mentioned, Thrill Data.
01:03:55
Speaker
I love Thrill Data for HHN.
01:03:58
Speaker
I like study it for the months leading up to when I when I can go and kind of try to figure out my plan that way.
01:04:04
Speaker
I had known that we would have a very large group and kind of the focus was getting through all 10 of the houses.
01:04:09
Speaker
So that was that was kind of what I made the schedule around and tried to add other things in where I could.
01:04:17
Speaker
But Thrill Data said that that Friday night was like an average guest, an average attendance level.
01:04:25
Speaker
A couple of us went back on Saturday and it was like the second highest attended night.
01:04:28
Speaker
And you could totally feel the difference in the queue times.
01:04:32
Speaker
I think I really like appreciated the value of the stay and scream or the scream early this year.
01:04:41
Speaker
I had always done stay and scream until this year.
01:04:43
Speaker
The second night we didn't do it.
01:04:45
Speaker
I don't know if it was that or the crowd level, but that really like sets you behind.
01:04:50
Speaker
For those of you who don't know, you can, if you have a universal day ticket or a pass, you can kind of enter this stay and scream area starting at three before Horror Nights, which opens to everybody else at 630.
01:05:04
Speaker
They don't open the houses until like 515.
01:05:07
Speaker
So you're not getting like a ton of extra time in the houses, but you can kind of queue up and run through
01:05:12
Speaker
probably like three houses before everybody else gets in there.
01:05:17
Speaker
If you don't have a day ticket or a pass, you can purchase an add on to your like HHN day ticket or pass to be able to access that same perk, which I think like I'll do forever and ever now.
01:05:29
Speaker
Like I think it's so worth it to get, get ahead and get a couple of houses done before everybody gets in there and it gets crowded.
01:05:36
Speaker
That's really your,
01:05:38
Speaker
That's really your only way of getting through all 10 houses and nightmare fuel in one night.
01:05:42
Speaker
You have to do stay in screen.
01:05:44
Speaker
You can't just show up at 7 p.m.
01:05:47
Speaker
with a concept of a plan.
01:05:48
Speaker
You need an actual plan.
01:05:53
Speaker
That is very true.
01:05:55
Speaker
So what did we think, like, overall of the event?
01:06:00
Speaker
I Rafa already mentioned this, but I I and I said this to a potsy world, but I feel like the scare zones are just kind of lackluster, like the vibes in the park.
01:06:10
Speaker
There is some like nice lighting and it's cool to see like some of the like costumes and makeup that are on the characters that are roving, but they're not.
01:06:18
Speaker
making like super huge attempts to scare you out in the park, which I kind of miss like that aspect.
01:06:25
Speaker
Um, and the other thing that's kind of not my favorite about it is the cues themselves are not really super vibey for the most part.
01:06:35
Speaker
They're just kind of cattle pens with like bright lighting in some cases.
01:06:38
Speaker
That's like shining directly in your face and you're like, ah, um, so I wish I, I,
01:06:42
Speaker
But I don't really know, you know, there's not too much they can do about that.
01:06:45
Speaker
It just kind of is what it is.
01:06:46
Speaker
But it does kind of put a damper on your experience, especially like compared to SeaWorld, where a lot of the queues were sort of like, I don't know, in the park and like a little more atmospheric feeling.
01:06:56
Speaker
But obviously, I felt like the houses this year, the average house this year was better than the average house last year.
01:07:03
Speaker
And that made it harder to like kind of distinguish which the best one was, because they were all pretty good.
01:07:09
Speaker
Like we had a good time.
01:07:10
Speaker
pretty much all of them.
01:07:11
Speaker
I agree with everything you said.
01:07:13
Speaker
I think with, and maybe Rafa, you can speak to this because you've been going a lot longer as far as like the cues.
01:07:18
Speaker
I feel like they did a little more this year with having some projections, like outside of the tent houses in the back, they had that giant projection and some like, but it was really more of like advertisements than anything else.
01:07:30
Speaker
Like I really feel like they could
01:07:33
Speaker
pull from the, from the theme of the house and like do some at least themed music.
01:07:38
Speaker
If it's a movie, they could, you know, play some audio from the movie if that's allowed or some music.
01:07:43
Speaker
And if it's not, especially if it's a universal original, like they come up with the, with the podcast series.
01:07:50
Speaker
So I feel like they could do a little bit more.
01:07:52
Speaker
I agree with like just the general not standing in like a cattle pen feel for a long period of time.
01:08:01
Speaker
I think one thing that I noticed is that this year, they normally don't put any kind of projections until later in the season, which never made sense to me.
01:08:11
Speaker
Normally, the first half of the season, there's nothing going on.
01:08:14
Speaker
And then towards the end, you'll start to notice that they'll add projections with advertisements of whatever movie is coming out or whatever.
01:08:24
Speaker
I don't know, I feel like they should be doing more with it.
01:08:26
Speaker
Like the average person isn't listening to the podcast and all of the details when it comes to these houses.
01:08:31
Speaker
So I feel like if they were to add that to the queue, like that would add to the experience.
01:08:36
Speaker
Like you're being hyped up to go in here and you know what's going on now.
01:08:40
Speaker
And I feel like it's a missed opportunity, unfortunately.
01:08:44
Speaker
That's what they did with Chucky last year.
01:08:46
Speaker
They had that video playing inside the queue.
01:08:49
Speaker
And that house was not the greatest, but at least it set that tone to give you some background story on what the house actually is.
01:08:58
Speaker
And they did do that for Slaughter Cinema as well, because they had the movies playing outside.
01:09:04
Speaker
It's pretty limited when you see something like that.
01:09:09
Speaker
I agree with what you said, Joey, too, about the scare zones.
01:09:12
Speaker
I feel like Universal is such a huge park that some of it tends to just feel really sparse.
01:09:17
Speaker
Like you walk through a scare zone for like three minutes and then you're walking for 10 more minutes to get to the next house and just like a regular.
01:09:24
Speaker
And I know they need to do that.
01:09:25
Speaker
There needs to be like places for food and for people to not necessarily be scared.
01:09:30
Speaker
But some of the pathways and we'll talk probably more about this when we talk about the specific zones, just like don't really feel like it lends itself great to a zone.
01:09:39
Speaker
Um, so that can kind of hurt the vibe.
01:09:42
Speaker
I always love like the, the kind of generic heavy rock that they play at HHN.
01:09:48
Speaker
It just like is synonymous with the event now to me.
01:09:51
Speaker
Um, so I like that.
01:09:52
Speaker
I like that they do that.
01:09:54
Speaker
And then I guess my like one other big point in comparing this year, at least to last year or prior years, I felt like
01:10:01
Speaker
the tie-in with sinister and surreal with the whole event was pretty weak.
01:10:06
Speaker
Like, yeah, definitely.
01:10:08
Speaker
The idea behind them, the one being like representative of like visceral pain and one like mental torture.
01:10:15
Speaker
Apparently they're supposed to each have their own five houses, which I guess we could guess which ones are, you know, fall in line more with each character.
01:10:25
Speaker
odd fellow last year was ingrained in every aspect of the event.
01:10:29
Speaker
He had his own house.
01:10:30
Speaker
He had other houses that tied in.
01:10:31
Speaker
He tied in with the lore of HHN with Jack and he had some tie into like every scare zone.
01:10:38
Speaker
If you listen to the podcast, like there was his backstory from different like parts of his life.
01:10:44
Speaker
And I just really liked that cohesive,
01:10:48
Speaker
which this year did not have.
01:10:49
Speaker
And I think that's what made, I agree the houses were great, but I feel like the overall event itself felt a little bit Tyler.
01:11:04
Speaker
Yeah, there he is.
01:11:05
Speaker
I feel like the event itself just felt like a little less
01:11:16
Speaker
Like cohesive, like telling a story together.
01:11:20
Speaker
And maybe Rafa, you can speak to this because you've been going for so many years, but it seems like every year they don't necessarily have like this sort of story arch icon.
01:11:30
Speaker
Like obviously the years with Jack and Jack has a long history of like reappearing over the event.
01:11:35
Speaker
And then we have Oddfellow that they've like even intertwined his backstory with Jack.
01:11:39
Speaker
But like, have you seen like a difference between years where there's like a distinctive icon and not?
01:11:46
Speaker
I think that when there is an icon, it tends to be, like you said, a lot more cohesive.
01:11:52
Speaker
Everything makes sense.
01:11:53
Speaker
Everything that's going on in the event, it all makes sense.
01:11:56
Speaker
Even though I did enjoy this year more than last year, when it came to the icon specifically, I feel like it lacked a lot this year.
01:12:05
Speaker
There wasn't much besides the entry when you're seeing them welcome you at the very front of the entrance.
01:12:15
Speaker
There wasn't really much else going on in the park when it came to the two icons.
01:12:19
Speaker
There wasn't much going on, but normally they have... Normally you have... Everything makes more sense.
01:12:24
Speaker
The houses that they choose and the IPs that they choose tend to make sense to that icon.
01:12:29
Speaker
Whereas this year, they can say what they want and say, okay, this is sinister, this is surreal, but I feel like they're just placing them themselves.
01:12:37
Speaker
I don't think it really makes sense to it.
01:12:39
Speaker
Yeah, and if you do stay in Scream, you miss the opening Scaramony, which is one of the only times you really see them.
01:12:46
Speaker
I was looking for Surreal in Demon Queens and Sinister in Torture Fair, and I didn't see either of them there, ever.
01:12:54
Speaker
Yeah, because even if you close the park, you won't see them because they're no longer standing up there anymore.
01:12:59
Speaker
So you wouldn't even know
Spooky Podcast Potential & HHN Houses
01:13:00
Speaker
who these icons are to begin with.
01:13:03
Speaker
Jack used to walk around the park with a bullhorn.
01:13:06
Speaker
I would see him in different key lines and interact with people.
01:13:10
Speaker
And that was awesome.
01:13:11
Speaker
And honestly, if you didn't look into the backstory, you wouldn't even know that there were icons this year.
01:13:19
Speaker
Should we start digging into the houses a little bit?
01:13:23
Speaker
Yeah, we're now 13 in.
01:13:31
Speaker
It is easy to bullshit your way through.
01:13:34
Speaker
Okay, but I feel like we're not tangenting.
01:13:35
Speaker
There's just a lot to say.
01:13:37
Speaker
Yeah, this is why you should have your own spooky podcast.
01:13:41
Speaker
I think you should.
01:13:42
Speaker
Maybe we could do a seasonal thing.
01:13:45
Speaker
Yeah, I'm not saying do it year round.
01:13:48
Speaker
Like starting like July and go through like November.
01:13:53
Speaker
There's so much spooky shit that you love.
01:13:55
Speaker
Would anybody like anything like that?
01:14:00
Speaker
Okay, let's start in the front and go clockwise.
01:14:04
Speaker
So let's start with Monstros, Monsters of Latin America.
01:14:10
Speaker
I know what you're going to say.
01:14:10
Speaker
It is the worst I've ever done at HHN.
01:14:13
Speaker
It is straight trash.
01:14:17
Speaker
Because it's just not good.
01:14:19
Speaker
Like, I don't have an elaborate reason for you.
01:14:22
Speaker
I just don't like it.
01:14:25
Speaker
The vibe was good.
01:14:32
Speaker
It's sometimes hard.
01:14:33
Speaker
I also don't like the baby eater.
01:14:34
Speaker
Yeah, that's okay.
01:14:35
Speaker
I think that's what throws everybody off, the baby eater thing.
01:14:38
Speaker
Yeah, throws the vibes off because she's the first monster that is kind of there.
01:14:43
Speaker
I feel like it's sometimes hard, and I try not to do this, but I always think of the house that was in that location the year before, and last year it was Blood Moon, and it just like โ Oh, so good.
01:14:51
Speaker
That was my favorite last year.
01:14:53
Speaker
Yeah, that was a very strong house.
01:14:55
Speaker
Just couldn't compare.
01:14:56
Speaker
Now, Monstrous was at HHN Hollywood last year in one house of the year.
01:15:00
Speaker
So my hype for this house was super high.
01:15:04
Speaker
I was underwhelmed and let down as well.
01:15:06
Speaker
I didn't dislike it.
01:15:09
Speaker
I just didn't think it was very strong.
01:15:11
Speaker
I couldn't get past the beat.
01:15:12
Speaker
I knew the legends of the three monsters.
01:15:15
Speaker
I couldn't get past the baby eating.
01:15:17
Speaker
I tried to like not even pay attention and just get to the next, the Elsa bone area.
01:15:22
Speaker
That kind of killed the vibe.
01:15:24
Speaker
Didn't get the best scares.
01:15:27
Speaker
The sets, some of them were impressive.
01:15:28
Speaker
And I thought that the animatronic at the end, like the giant Lala Chooza was really cool.
01:15:35
Speaker
I was like, whoa, that's cool.
01:15:36
Speaker
And then like the house was over.
01:15:40
Speaker
I also want to just point out too, because I'm probably going to say this 5 million times.
01:15:44
Speaker
I feel like my opinion of the house is so dependent on if I got scares or not.
01:15:55
Speaker
And I'll also say, I'll also say this is also my number 10 house.
01:15:59
Speaker
I don't think it's the worst house I've ever done, but it's my number 10 for this year.
01:16:03
Speaker
That being said, the number 10 house at Horror Nights is better than pretty much every other house I've done at other events.
01:16:13
Speaker
I mean, the sets I thought still were really nice.
01:16:16
Speaker
I was expecting it to have a different vibe.
01:16:19
Speaker
Like it almost felt more generic than I was expecting, I guess.
01:16:24
Speaker
Because like with the theme of it, I thought it might be a little more outlandish or something.
01:16:28
Speaker
Like the one part that kind of was like, oh, that's a little different was like the one character that was like singing and stuff.
01:16:34
Speaker
I was like, okay, that's kind of cool.
01:16:36
Speaker
And obviously like the sets had that Latin American vibe, but I don't know.
01:16:39
Speaker
It just kind of felt flat to me.
01:16:42
Speaker
The costuming seemed a little lazy also.
01:16:45
Speaker
Yeah, it was a little drab, I guess.
01:16:47
Speaker
I feel like maybe it was very well-received over in Hollywood because they don't have many original houses over there compared to H&M Orlando.
01:16:56
Speaker
So maybe it was like, oh, this is an IP, and it was such a unique concept.
01:17:00
Speaker
Maybe for them it was something a lot more, I guess, exciting.
01:17:04
Speaker
It might have to do with the mix of their houses, too, you know?
01:17:08
Speaker
How it stands out compared to the rest of the houses of the event.
01:17:13
Speaker
Also like very different house, but two years ago, I loved Fiesta de Chupacabras.
01:17:18
Speaker
Like that was one of my favorite houses.
01:17:20
Speaker
And maybe I just expected it to be similar to that because it was kind of the same like Latin American, like folklore-esque type feel.
01:17:31
Speaker
And it just like wasn't, wasn't near as good for me.
01:17:39
Speaker
We don't really have very much to say about this one.
01:17:44
Speaker
None of us loved it.
01:17:46
Speaker
I had that ranked last as well.
01:17:49
Speaker
That was my number nine.
01:17:51
Speaker
So yeah, it was all pretty low.
01:17:52
Speaker
I guess it might be easier for us to say what number we ranked the house out of 10 as we go through them.
01:18:00
Speaker
I got to find that right.
01:18:01
Speaker
So that's interesting.
01:18:02
Speaker
I feel like, like you said, Joey, the houses were our
01:18:06
Speaker
Overall, very good and very interchangeable, kind of like that middle of the pack houses.
01:18:12
Speaker
I feel like our lists, at least from what I remember looking through them when we discussed it in Discord afterwards are pretty different.
01:18:18
Speaker
But universally, I think this one wasn't strong, clearly.
01:18:23
Speaker
I mean, it's like trash fire by the TDR scale, which means it was still fine, but yeah.
01:18:31
Speaker
Watch your, watch your mouth, sir.
01:18:36
Speaker
I actually would put a ghost in the machine at a, or whatever it's called at Dorney above monstrous.
01:18:44
Speaker
Cause I went through it during the daytime at that iron menace media event and it was so impressive even with no actors in it.
01:18:51
Speaker
It's, it was really well done.
01:18:56
Speaker
So moving on to the next one is A Quiet Place.
01:19:00
Speaker
Am I still starting?
01:19:03
Speaker
I mean, anyone can start.
01:19:07
Speaker
I thought it was great.
01:19:08
Speaker
I thought it was, like I said before, I think watching the films prior to going in enhanced the experience.
01:19:15
Speaker
And yeah, I don't know.
01:19:17
Speaker
I just, I, and I feel like the, I feel like the experience varies depending on who you're surrounded by.
01:19:23
Speaker
Like there are times where you'll go in with certain people surrounded, which, you know, one thing for those who haven't gone to HHN, you're not really pulsed through as a group.
01:19:32
Speaker
Like you're kind of just conglomerating through the houses.
01:19:36
Speaker
So you're never going to really be by yourself or with your group alone.
01:19:40
Speaker
But in quiet place, I feel like if you're surrounded by people that are actually going with like the theme of being quiet, it makes the experience somewhere so much more exciting.
01:19:49
Speaker
Like I feel like you can actually like,
01:19:52
Speaker
I don't know, it's very eerie and very creepy.
01:19:54
Speaker
It adds to the experience, whereas if you go with people that are screaming, it just takes away from the experience.
01:20:01
Speaker
But all of my run-throughs have been quiet, luckily.
01:20:05
Speaker
And I don't know, it was awesome.
01:20:07
Speaker
I thought the sets were great.
01:20:08
Speaker
I thought it was very true to the films.
01:20:10
Speaker
And yeah, I thought it was great.
01:20:15
Speaker
Yeah, I had it as my number three.
01:20:18
Speaker
I thought it was really good.
01:20:20
Speaker
Like you said, Rafa, it's pretty true to the movie.
01:20:22
Speaker
The facade was awesome.
01:20:24
Speaker
When you walk in and you see a quiet place way above you with that music, that was super cool.
01:20:32
Speaker
I think it was like the pier scene or like the boat scene with the water off to your right.
01:20:36
Speaker
That was cool too.
01:20:38
Speaker
Had some good animatronics.
01:20:39
Speaker
I really liked it.
01:20:42
Speaker
It was also my number three.
01:20:44
Speaker
I really enjoyed it.
01:20:45
Speaker
I can definitely see like if you hadn't seen the film, you would just be like, what is happening?
01:20:49
Speaker
But I think the thing I appreciated most about it was the sort of vibe shift off of some of the other houses.
01:20:54
Speaker
Like it's and I guess I kind of told you on the way into like be quiet or whatever.
01:20:58
Speaker
But, you know, some people are going to do that.
01:21:00
Speaker
Some others aren't.
01:21:01
Speaker
But even just the way that the audio design of the maze was kind of lended itself to that.
01:21:06
Speaker
And the way that the scares were being built lended itself to that.
01:21:09
Speaker
It was really interesting.
01:21:10
Speaker
Like I had never thought of the fact that they would use like other sounds of things happening in the maze as a way to trigger like the monster to come attack you.
01:21:19
Speaker
Because there was like, I think there was like a glass bottle that fell at one point and that triggered and then bam, like something happened.
01:21:25
Speaker
So it wasn't just you making noise either.
01:21:27
Speaker
It was like other things and that kind of, I thought it was really cool, like storytelling in the maze.
01:21:32
Speaker
I shout out Hunter at the end.
01:21:37
Speaker
I was trying really hard.
01:21:40
Speaker
I knew we have like an acquaintance through friends.
01:21:43
Speaker
If anybody follows theme park hunting Hunter, he's friends with our friend, Scott.
01:21:47
Speaker
He is a scare actor and it was in a quiet place and he was Owen from the movie.
01:21:56
Speaker
The guy that like his character in the, in the house was,
01:22:01
Speaker
like shaking the net with the, like, I guess, noise making objects in it toward the end.
01:22:07
Speaker
And I knew that's what his character was and where it was in the house.
01:22:10
Speaker
And I was still scared by him.
01:22:12
Speaker
Like I knew like where it was going to be because I was trying to, we tried to aim our run for when he was in there and we were able to and clapped silently for him.
01:22:22
Speaker
It's always fun to like see people, you know, which there aren't, you know, many, but I agree with everything you guys said.
01:22:28
Speaker
It's also my number three.
01:22:32
Speaker
I enjoyed the movies a lot.
01:22:34
Speaker
I'm glad I watched them because I agree of all the IPs.
01:22:36
Speaker
I think this one was probably most important to see for you to understand what was going on in the house.
01:22:43
Speaker
Some standout parts.
01:22:45
Speaker
I thought like the cold open of this house with just like the dark hallway and then the animatronic monster was excellent before you get to that like facade.
01:22:53
Speaker
I thought that was excellent use of that like space when you get into the soundstage and they always kind of have
01:22:58
Speaker
like something before you get into the actual like house.
01:23:01
Speaker
I thought that was really well done.
01:23:04
Speaker
I think it was really ambitious of Universal to try something this different from the norm.
01:23:10
Speaker
And I think mostly they succeeded in making it a different like sensory experience overall.
01:23:18
Speaker
Definitely heard some complaints from like the HHN community about the use of the animatronics and puppets over
01:23:26
Speaker
a lot of characters, but I didn't really feel like it was like too, too uneven.
01:23:34
Speaker
And I feel like the, the use of the puppets and animatronics were needed.
01:23:38
Speaker
Like, I don't know how you'd have anybody dress up as those monsters.
01:23:41
Speaker
That's part of what made it feel different.
01:23:43
Speaker
Like, cause there weren't so many people.
01:23:46
Speaker
And the characters were, were really well casted.
01:23:50
Speaker
Like they, they looked like they really did look like they're the,
01:23:54
Speaker
people, the actors and actresses in the movie.
01:23:58
Speaker
I wish I only got one run because that line was like pretty persistently long.
01:24:02
Speaker
I wish I would have gotten more.
01:24:04
Speaker
But I was happy with the run that I had because some good scares in there.
01:24:10
Speaker
What did you think?
01:24:11
Speaker
It was my number four house and I really enjoyed it.
01:24:15
Speaker
You guys kind of said everything.
01:24:18
Speaker
I don't have much to add there.
01:24:20
Speaker
I would compare it to Stranger Things in years past where it's not like the scariest maze, but the set's very well done.
01:24:27
Speaker
The casting is well done.
01:24:29
Speaker
Good animatronics.
01:24:35
Speaker
Next up, we have Ghostbusters Frozen Empire.
01:24:42
Speaker
So I like the cold mazes.
01:24:45
Speaker
Because it's not scary.
01:24:48
Speaker
So Ghostbusters himself is not inherently scary.
01:24:53
Speaker
And I appreciate that.
01:24:55
Speaker
I feel like you tend to gravitate more to the campy houses.
01:24:59
Speaker
Because I'm a goober.
01:25:04
Speaker
But this was... With that said, this was my number seven house.
01:25:09
Speaker
Visually, it's very cool, but like, you know, it just had, that's what it was.
01:25:15
Speaker
It was, you're walking through Frozen Empire.
01:25:19
Speaker
And it's really a scene by scene interpretation of it, which is, you know, if that's what you're going for, it's fantastic.
01:25:26
Speaker
I thought they did really well with the sets.
01:25:28
Speaker
But like, again, it's not scary, but I like it cold.
01:25:33
Speaker
That's my, that's my thoughts.
01:25:36
Speaker
Yeah, I thought the sets were incredible in this one.
01:25:39
Speaker
I haven't seen any of the newer Ghostbuster films.
01:25:42
Speaker
I've only seen the originals.
01:25:44
Speaker
But this one was pretty good.
01:25:46
Speaker
And I think because I expected it to be my number 10 going into it, I was very surprised.
01:25:52
Speaker
And I actually have it at number 5.
01:25:55
Speaker
So I really enjoyed it.
01:25:57
Speaker
I think the set was very solid.
01:25:59
Speaker
And I think that's something that this house did better than the previous one, because I think in 2019 they had the original Ghostbusters house.
01:26:08
Speaker
And that house, I feel like they focused more on the story and just doing scene by scene, whereas this one did do the scene by scene, just like the newer films.
01:26:18
Speaker
But I feel like this one, they did a better job with the scares.
01:26:20
Speaker
I feel like they were more scares
01:26:22
Speaker
you know, spread around the house.
01:26:24
Speaker
I feel like it combined story and scares pretty well.
01:26:28
Speaker
It was a good, you know, combination of the two and yeah, I didn't expect it to be that well done.
01:26:35
Speaker
I really enjoyed it.
01:26:38
Speaker
You guys pretty much said it.
01:26:44
Speaker
I think we're like a little bit off on like timing.
01:26:47
Speaker
Like I can see your mouth moving after your audio, but that's okay.
01:26:53
Speaker
I also had it at number five.
01:26:56
Speaker
I think you pretty much said everything, Rafa.
01:26:59
Speaker
I also did not see the movie, but I don't feel like I needed to.
01:27:05
Speaker
The one thing that stood out to me was the stilt walker.
01:27:07
Speaker
He was kind of on the transition part.
01:27:10
Speaker
I don't know if it was the outside part, but it felt like you were outside.
01:27:15
Speaker
He got me pretty good.
01:27:17
Speaker
But yeah, great set.
01:27:20
Speaker
I also had it at number five.
01:27:23
Speaker
I also had, I had it number 10 on my like hype list.
01:27:28
Speaker
Like I just am not a huge Ghostbusters fan.
01:27:31
Speaker
I did watch this movie in preparation for the house, but ended up at number seven overall.
01:27:37
Speaker
And honestly, like,
01:27:39
Speaker
No, no shame for being number seven.
01:27:41
Speaker
I think there were just a lot of houses that were good this year.
01:27:43
Speaker
Like that was our first house that we did from stay and scream.
01:27:46
Speaker
And a lot of times the first house I do, I'm kind of like, eh, like it's still light outside.
01:27:50
Speaker
Like the vibes aren't vibing yet.
01:27:53
Speaker
But we left that house and I was like, okay, that was solid.
01:27:57
Speaker
I think it followed the scenes of the movie well, but it also integrated some callbacks from like the other Ghostbusters movies too.
01:28:03
Speaker
Like some of the older ghosts that people have, you know, developed, you know,
01:28:08
Speaker
nostalgia around and having the car scene.
01:28:12
Speaker
I think a lot of people love that.
01:28:14
Speaker
I think there was some really good use of scares that weren't meant to be scary.
01:28:19
Speaker
It was just normal actors, but like their appearance with the sound made it a scare.
01:28:25
Speaker
So you'd have like one of the Ghostbusters with their like proton pump thing and or whatever it's called.
01:28:31
Speaker
I'm not like I said, a Ghostbusters fan, but it would like appear and you'd be like, oh, my gosh, that scared me.
01:28:36
Speaker
But it wasn't meant to be scary.
01:28:38
Speaker
I think they did that really well.
01:28:41
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, I pretty much agree with everything here.
01:28:43
Speaker
I also have it as number seven.
01:28:46
Speaker
It is kind of weird because this was the first house we did.
01:28:49
Speaker
The first house for me is always just kind of like a settling in almost like you're kind of like getting used to it.
01:28:54
Speaker
So I remember a lot of us came out of the maze and we're like, oh, my God, that was loud.
01:28:58
Speaker
Because the sound effects in that maze were like kind of wild, which I guess like I think it maybe helped a little bit just in terms of like the vibe of it all and making a little bit more like scary and easy because the sets themselves weren't like super terrifying.
01:29:12
Speaker
I mean, I remember like in the one just getting excited about seeing the little Stay Puft Marshmallow Men like all over the place.
01:29:17
Speaker
So I was like, that's cute.
01:29:19
Speaker
but there were a couple of really cool moments.
01:29:21
Speaker
I liked the scene with the, the snow coming down and then they had the still Walker.
01:29:25
Speaker
So they like purposely had you like looking up at the snow and then bam, they're like, there's the still Walker.
01:29:29
Speaker
So yeah, that was cool.
01:29:36
Speaker
Did you talk about ghostbusters?
01:29:41
Speaker
So next we have insidious the further.
01:29:49
Speaker
Does everybody have it at number one?
01:29:56
Speaker
So after our first night, so obviously this house within the community was like hyped up as like the scariest house ever or the scariest house of the year, best house of the year.
01:30:06
Speaker
People are passing out and crawling on the ground and all kinds of craziness.
01:30:11
Speaker
I was trying to keep my expectations low, just like I do for an overhyped coaster.
01:30:14
Speaker
I'm like, I don't want to...
01:30:17
Speaker
come out of this, like feeling underwhelmed.
01:30:20
Speaker
And like, Tyler, we had talked after you went the first time and you were like, eh, it was kind of underwhelming.
01:30:25
Speaker
And like, I heard that from a couple other people too.
01:30:27
Speaker
I was underwhelmed as well.
01:30:28
Speaker
Like on the first, my first walkthrough, I was underwhelmed.
01:30:31
Speaker
And I feel like, I don't remember if maybe like Zach or somebody else,
01:30:36
Speaker
I don't know, a couple people I'd talked to that are my actual friends kind of felt the same way.
01:30:39
Speaker
So I was like, Oh, bummer.
01:30:41
Speaker
So I'm just gonna kind of like keep it chill.
01:30:42
Speaker
But like in the back of your head, you're like, maybe I'll get wrecked.
01:30:45
Speaker
Like maybe I will.
01:30:47
Speaker
But after our first run, I definitely was underwhelmed.
01:30:49
Speaker
I was like, darn, like maybe I just didn't get the best run.
01:30:53
Speaker
But I would I and I'll get to my second run through then the second night.
01:31:01
Speaker
I think what this house does really well at setting the stage of like it being just unsettling is its score.
01:31:09
Speaker
Like you walk in the house and you have the voiceover from the movie and then you have like the high pitched violins and you have the tiptoe through the tulips like the entire time.
01:31:19
Speaker
Did you not hear tiptoe?
01:31:21
Speaker
I'm making faces at Tom, whatever is on his shoulder.
01:31:30
Speaker
We're just falling apart here.
01:31:33
Speaker
I feel like I, and it rarely happens to me, went through that house on the defense.
01:31:39
Speaker
Like I was like, I'm a little uneasy.
01:31:41
Speaker
Like when's it going to get me?
01:31:42
Speaker
Like when's it going to be scary?
01:31:44
Speaker
And that first time it just wasn't.
01:31:46
Speaker
Now we waited very minimally the first night we went through on Friday.
01:31:52
Speaker
We kind of walked right in.
01:31:53
Speaker
There was like zero time to prepare.
01:31:55
Speaker
The second night, however, when it was very crowded, we decided to eat a posted 120 minute wait to get a second run in Insidious.
01:32:03
Speaker
It ended up being closer to like an 85 minute wait.
01:32:06
Speaker
So it was not short, but not as bad as posted.
01:32:08
Speaker
And I am so happy we did.
01:32:10
Speaker
That was the last house of the event that we did.
01:32:12
Speaker
And it was like the perfect run, like my favorite run that I've had in any HHN house ever.
01:32:20
Speaker
a younger, maybe like teenage girl and what we assume to be maybe her like dad, I don't know, just projected whatever, but they were behind us and she was unwell.
01:32:31
Speaker
The first couple of scares were clearly targeting her because she was just like screaming and like, literally I turned around to look at Tom and she was on the floor.
01:32:39
Speaker
Like she was not, she was not hanging in there.
01:32:42
Speaker
So I was like, Oh, there, we're going to miss all the scares.
01:32:44
Speaker
Cause they're going to hear her and get her.
01:32:47
Speaker
But I think Simon was leading us and he slowed the pace a little bit.
01:32:51
Speaker
And then we started getting scares.
01:32:52
Speaker
Simon got one and I was like laughing hysterically.
01:32:55
Speaker
Like he jumped feet to the side.
01:32:58
Speaker
I was like, oh my gosh, Simon got so bad.
01:33:01
Speaker
And then a couple steps later we were in the curtain room and I got the triple scare.
01:33:06
Speaker
And like, I was shook by it.
01:33:10
Speaker
I never scream in these houses.
01:33:13
Speaker
clung on to Tyler, my life depended on it.
01:33:17
Speaker
And it was amazing.
01:33:19
Speaker
So that really I needed that because I was underwhelmed the first run.
01:33:22
Speaker
But that goes to show you like how different I think after the first night I had it in the middle of the pack and like it easily finished number one for me just off of that one extra run I had that I got scares during.
01:33:36
Speaker
Yeah, it was my number one also.
01:33:40
Speaker
The first couple runs, even a couple weeks ago, it was good.
01:33:45
Speaker
I think I probably have it at four or five.
01:33:47
Speaker
But that last night, we did have the perfect run through and that triple scare.
01:33:51
Speaker
It was in the curtain room.
01:33:52
Speaker
They got us on the left, then on the right, and then on the left again.
01:33:58
Speaker
Do you think that's the same guy or do you think it's two different people?
01:34:02
Speaker
I think it's the same guy on the left.
01:34:04
Speaker
I think it's like a double boom.
01:34:05
Speaker
And just runs further down the curtain.
01:34:10
Speaker
They were working.
01:34:12
Speaker
Those scare actors in there are working.
01:34:20
Speaker
Yeah, that one was great.
01:34:21
Speaker
That curtain room is like the highlight of the house for me.
01:34:25
Speaker
What I love about that house is, and I wish that they would do this more with other IPs in the future.
01:34:31
Speaker
What I like is that they didn't really take like specific scenes from the films.
01:34:36
Speaker
They just went with, okay, this is the further.
01:34:38
Speaker
We're just going to have all the monsters from the further and this one house and just create chaos with that.
01:34:44
Speaker
I think that should be done more with, you know, with these huge IP characters, like do something insane with those characters.
01:34:50
Speaker
but make it your own.
01:34:51
Speaker
And I think that's exactly what they did with Insidious.
01:34:54
Speaker
What was your quote that you kept saying that they said at the beginning?
01:34:58
Speaker
He's got your baby.
01:35:07
Speaker
He's got your baby.
01:35:12
Speaker
He's got your baby.
01:35:15
Speaker
Yeah, I agree with that.
01:35:16
Speaker
I liked how it was not just like a walkthrough of any of the
01:35:20
Speaker
of the films, just like all about the further.
01:35:23
Speaker
They did an Insidious House in the past, right, Rafa?
01:35:27
Speaker
And that's why I liked this one a lot more than before, because the one before was, I think it was mostly about the first movie.
01:35:33
Speaker
So it was just like scene by scene, you know, whatever went down in the movie.
01:35:37
Speaker
This one was just like every monster from the Insidious franchise was just in this one house, which was great.
01:35:49
Speaker
I'm the dissenting voice on this one, but just because I only got one run.
01:35:54
Speaker
And not that it's that far, because I have it in this number four.
01:35:57
Speaker
But I really, really wish on that night that we had had more steam to go and do it again at the end of the night, because I feel like we probably would have gotten a better run.
01:36:05
Speaker
I think we kind of got a little bit of a cast change happening when we went through
01:36:11
Speaker
And so that kind of hurt some of the vibes.
01:36:13
Speaker
I still did find it like unsettling and like, you know, the kind of chaos, like you said, or just like kind of nonstop stuff happening.
01:36:22
Speaker
And they for sure scared me a couple of times.
01:36:24
Speaker
But I was definitely sort of out of sequence with a lot of the scares that were happening in front of and behind me.
01:36:28
Speaker
And so that left me a little bit disappointed compared to like what I heard from other people.
01:36:33
Speaker
And obviously Rafa was behind me the first time we went through.
01:36:35
Speaker
And I think the curtain room got you that time.
01:36:40
Speaker
They were going after me in there.
01:36:44
Speaker
It's my number two house.
01:36:52
Speaker
Really enjoyed it.
01:36:53
Speaker
So, I mean, I was happy on that second โ the first one I didn't get scared and I was like โ and I had heard all the podcasts because obviously I'm in the car hearing them at the same time all the time.
01:37:06
Speaker
after I finish my audio books where I have an earbud in while I'm driving so I can listen to that.
01:37:12
Speaker
And so I'm listening and I'm hearing like, oh, people are crawling on the ground and crying.
01:37:19
Speaker
I'm like, there's no way in hell
01:37:23
Speaker
Like, it's all BS.
01:37:25
Speaker
Like, there's no other way to put it, in my opinion.
01:37:27
Speaker
It was all BS of, like, the hype in that regard.
01:37:30
Speaker
And I still think that was way overhyped of, like, how scary and terrifying and it's the scariest thing you'll ever do.
01:37:36
Speaker
Like, you shouldn't say things, like, that rhetorical if you're talking about, like, a Honda Mazin unless every single time you walk through, it is that scary.
01:37:46
Speaker
And, like, for being a guy who is not into scary stuff, like,
01:37:52
Speaker
I was like, oh, I'm going to get absolutely destroyed.
01:37:54
Speaker
I didn't get destroyed either time.
01:37:55
Speaker
The second time, I was kind of... I got a couple good scares, but it wasn't... You watched me get wrecked.
01:38:01
Speaker
Oh, I watched you guys get wrecked, and I was dying.
01:38:06
Speaker
I love that the man who's never exaggerated in his life is telling us not to exaggerate.
01:38:12
Speaker
About crawling on the floor, screaming, crying, going through our face.
01:38:17
Speaker
I mean, you're not wrong, but let's be honest.
01:38:21
Speaker
I couldn't even move.
01:38:22
Speaker
I was so petrified.
01:38:27
Speaker
You were not that scared.
01:38:28
Speaker
You're just trying to hype it up because, you know, that's the big IP for the year.
01:38:33
Speaker
So you're trying to get people bombing on it.
01:38:37
Speaker
So we all ranked it pretty high.
01:38:39
Speaker
Everybody was top half.
01:38:43
Speaker
Let's move on to triplets of terror.
01:38:52
Speaker
I just thought it was kind of like redundant.
01:38:54
Speaker
And like hearing the podcast about the storyline, it sounded interesting.
01:38:59
Speaker
And then we went through it and I was kind of like, okay, like it's kind of the same three characters reappearing over and over, like over time is supposed to be.
01:39:07
Speaker
And I just didn't think that the
01:39:09
Speaker
storytelling was particularly interesting like the way that it was done I guess there was the one room where they sort of had like a podcast set up that was supposed to be like indicating the transition of time but that's the only one that I really noticed I didn't see a lot of like good demarcations of like really missed opportunity and like it was supposed to be every what every nine years they were doing it something like that yeah
01:39:34
Speaker
That's been so long since I listened to the podcast episode.
01:39:36
Speaker
But there was like no, I feel like they did look younger in the first scene.
01:39:40
Speaker
Like they were clearly kids.
01:39:41
Speaker
But then after that, there was like no differentiation between the passage of time.
01:39:44
Speaker
Like they could have made it very decade specific.
01:39:48
Speaker
Maybe there were some decade specific details, but I think that would have been an easy thing to do.
01:39:52
Speaker
Make it 60s, make it 70s, make it 80s.
01:39:54
Speaker
But like that kind of was missing.
01:39:56
Speaker
And I think that would, I agree.
01:39:57
Speaker
I think that would have helped tell the story better.
01:40:00
Speaker
Yeah, this was number nine for me.
01:40:02
Speaker
I wasn't crazy about it.
01:40:04
Speaker
I thought it was, like Joey was saying, I feel like it was the same three characters just all around the house, really.
01:40:09
Speaker
There wasn't really much to it.
01:40:12
Speaker
Different areas of the house had these same three characters.
01:40:15
Speaker
That was basically it the whole time.
01:40:19
Speaker
Yeah, I had it at number eight.
01:40:21
Speaker
It's your typical sort of slasher that Horror Nights has every year.
01:40:26
Speaker
I think it had some good props.
01:40:29
Speaker
I guess it was like a birthday party.
01:40:31
Speaker
The corpses sitting around the table.
01:40:33
Speaker
That was really good.
01:40:35
Speaker
But yeah, number eight.
01:40:40
Speaker
This was number nine for me, and it was very, very, very generic.
01:40:46
Speaker
Yeah, that's all I got.
01:40:48
Speaker
Yeah, it was my number 10.
01:40:50
Speaker
I don't really have anything to add.
01:40:51
Speaker
I think it felt kind of short, but also like redundant.
01:40:55
Speaker
I know it shared a soundstage with Insidious, which felt very long.
01:40:59
Speaker
So I don't know if like space was a factor in how short it felt or anything like that.
01:41:09
Speaker
I think the concept I agree with Joey is very interesting and they made it sound very interesting in the podcast, but then like in
01:41:17
Speaker
practice it just was lacking some things that would have would have helped make it a little bit better it would being number 10 though like it still is not like chucky level like i think that yeah it was still like a decent house that i would have i forgot chucky existed okay my mom's dress isn't that bad it's it's better than check it's just a regular fire not a garbage fire or whatever
01:41:43
Speaker
And it's straight ass is what it's actually really bad.
01:41:49
Speaker
Chucky was straight ass.
01:41:51
Speaker
I feel like you need to actually create the illustration for this.
01:41:55
Speaker
We need a visual though.
01:41:59
Speaker
I mean, Marcus probably has it on his computer.
01:42:02
Speaker
We'll have to come up with our own spooky scale.
01:42:04
Speaker
Because these terms are not going to work for us.
01:42:07
Speaker
Yeah, we're going to have to...
01:42:09
Speaker
Ideas are flowing.
01:42:10
Speaker
How about you have just a spooky terminology?
01:42:14
Speaker
On a scale of Chucky to... Five pumpkins.
01:42:20
Speaker
We're doing HOS ratings when they did the pumpkins.
01:42:25
Speaker
This is a five pumpkin maze.
01:42:28
Speaker
And they're like, oh, this one's only two.
01:42:31
Speaker
And then you would go through it and it'd be like exactly the same.
01:42:36
Speaker
Anyway, we just digressed.
01:42:38
Speaker
We did a Marcus...
01:42:49
Speaker
This one was pretty polarizing, I think.
01:42:54
Speaker
And it was in the podcast I listened to, too.
01:42:57
Speaker
There were some people who had this super high and some people who had it super low.
01:43:01
Speaker
So I think this will be fun to talk about.
01:43:05
Speaker
So I had it at number nine.
01:43:13
Speaker
I think the story was fine.
01:43:15
Speaker
I just, I wasn't getting the scares.
01:43:17
Speaker
It was a little too whimsical, I guess.
01:43:22
Speaker
I just, I didn't understand it.
01:43:23
Speaker
And I also never found the interactive things.
01:43:25
Speaker
So maybe if I knew about that, it would have been better, but.
01:43:30
Speaker
Yeah, I have a favorite.
01:43:31
Speaker
Also, that cue sucks.
01:43:34
Speaker
Luckily, the first night when we went in, we kind of walked right in.
01:43:37
Speaker
That is a dumpster fire.
01:43:39
Speaker
Yeah, dumpster fire cue.
01:43:41
Speaker
But when you have to wait.
01:43:43
Speaker
We're doing in there, but that thing does not move.
01:43:47
Speaker
I don't understand why the express for that is so heavily weighted towards them.
01:43:55
Speaker
We went back there the second night to do it on this past Saturday to do it again.
01:44:00
Speaker
And we like got in the queue.
01:44:02
Speaker
So there for like two minutes, didn't move.
01:44:04
Speaker
And we were like, bye.
01:44:11
Speaker
Literally the trauma from Chucky is just, it's always going to be there.
01:44:15
Speaker
And then year before, like, I feel like it's just always.
01:44:19
Speaker
That was a black phone house.
01:44:22
Speaker
It was like Blumhouse.
01:44:23
Speaker
I actually kind of enjoyed that one.
01:44:25
Speaker
The house was okay.
01:44:27
Speaker
The house was straight booty cheeks.
01:44:33
Speaker
I did just ask Marcus if he has the scale handy, so we'll see.
01:44:39
Speaker
Who else had it ranked toward the bottom?
01:44:44
Speaker
Oh no, we're the majority.
01:44:47
Speaker
I had it at number 8.
01:44:49
Speaker
How about you, Joey?
01:44:51
Speaker
I also had it at number eight, but now I'm looking at it and kind of starting to regret that because I really enjoyed this maze, actually.
01:44:57
Speaker
Like I thought it was a lot of fun and I enjoy like the campier mazes because it definitely had some of that camp factor to it with the way that some of the scares were done and like the theme of it.
01:45:07
Speaker
Um, and having like heard about the storyline of the maze through the podcast, I definitely could follow it like through the maze.
01:45:13
Speaker
And I was like, oh yeah, like this all makes sense as we're going through.
01:45:17
Speaker
Um, and there was like some fun moments and yeah, so I really enjoyed it.
01:45:21
Speaker
I don't know why it just kind of like ended up towards the bottom.
01:45:24
Speaker
And maybe that's just because of like the, the sort of setup of that, um, venue for a house is a little weird.
01:45:32
Speaker
Like the transitions between some of the scenes are kind of off because I think you're like moving from, um,
01:45:37
Speaker
a building to a tent or I don't know something.
01:45:39
Speaker
There's, there's weird transitions in there.
01:45:41
Speaker
It used to be like a split house.
01:45:44
Speaker
Like every year there was like a point where you definitely exit, but this year was a little different.
01:45:48
Speaker
I think I will say it was better than Chucky because Chucky was wildly disjointed.
01:45:52
Speaker
This was not as bad for sure.
01:45:56
Speaker
You can look at this.
01:46:04
Speaker
It's just like an old TDR meme that is just like the cringiest, amazing thing ever.
01:46:13
Speaker
You shut your mouth when you're talking to me.
01:46:18
Speaker
I had this at number three, actually.
01:46:25
Speaker
Again, it's campy.
01:46:27
Speaker
I was here for it.
01:46:30
Speaker
But on Saturday night, I was the leading most vocal whiny person of absolutely not while I stand in this line for two hours when it's posted at 65 minutes.
01:46:44
Speaker
I hate everything.
01:46:46
Speaker
I would have done that one again, though, but the cue.
01:46:50
Speaker
Because it was fun.
01:46:50
Speaker
That's what happened to us.
01:46:53
Speaker
I have it ranked number two.
01:46:57
Speaker
So I had it very low on my hype list.
01:47:01
Speaker
Like I was not into the vibe of like creepy Willy Wonka.
01:47:05
Speaker
And like when I heard the podcast about it, I was like, not a big fan of kids killing people.
01:47:11
Speaker
Like I just stuff with kids bothers me.
01:47:14
Speaker
I was like, I'm not really into this, but I kind of liked how it was more like,
01:47:19
Speaker
muted factory vibes and like kind of gory, like in a grotesque way, not like, not like a super like colorful, like just different than I kind of anticipated it to look.
01:47:31
Speaker
And I think that helped.
01:47:33
Speaker
me kind of like enjoy the vibe more definitely can't be I think we got some really good scares on that first night like I remember you getting some some good ones yeah timed appropriately like I remember there was one that made my feet like dance a little bit at the end and I was like a double at the end right yeah yeah yeah so that helps I always rank highly based off of the scares that I get because that's what's kind of most important to me but I thought I thought the scare actors were really well
01:48:01
Speaker
well done in that house too.
01:48:02
Speaker
Like they're costuming and they're acting.
01:48:05
Speaker
So I was very surprised by it.
01:48:06
Speaker
I wish I could have done it again.
01:48:08
Speaker
Number two for me.
01:48:09
Speaker
Yeah, it actually jumped on my rankings prior to this past weekend.
01:48:14
Speaker
I had it at 10 before and actually went up to eight.
01:48:18
Speaker
So it's still lower, but I mean, this last run was pretty solid.
01:48:23
Speaker
The energy was definitely a lot better this past weekend.
01:48:32
Speaker
Up next is Goblin's Feast.
01:48:38
Speaker
It's giving Shrek.
01:48:40
Speaker
This was definitely camp.
01:48:43
Speaker
It was silly, but also not overly campy.
01:48:47
Speaker
There was still a horror aspect to it.
01:48:49
Speaker
The creature design and everything was still creepy, but the way that the actors were selling it was campy too.
01:48:57
Speaker
That was just fun to me.
01:48:58
Speaker
And this, this was the second house that we did in the new tents, but I was still impressed by like how the verticality that they were able to achieve with the sets in these tents because the older tents, I guess they're a little bit lower in these new tents, they built higher.
01:49:13
Speaker
And so like, there was like a water wheel in the one scene and there was like this cool, like pipe thing that we walked through.
01:49:19
Speaker
And I thought there was some pretty cool sets in here and I just enjoyed like the kind of silly vibe.
01:49:24
Speaker
And even though it was silly, like they definitely jump scared me a couple of times in there for sure.
01:49:29
Speaker
Where'd you have it ranked?
01:49:31
Speaker
Um, that's number five.
01:49:33
Speaker
So just under insidious.
01:49:37
Speaker
Yeah, I had it number six.
01:49:40
Speaker
It was pretty campy.
01:49:42
Speaker
I do like when houses start off with a character that's not trying to scare you and just kind of sets the tone.
01:49:51
Speaker
So the little guy just kind of dancing at the beginning.
01:49:54
Speaker
I thought that was cool.
01:49:57
Speaker
It really was just Shrek personified without the IP.
01:50:02
Speaker
And then I think it was in the middle, maybe towards the end, that giant goblin was awesome.
01:50:09
Speaker
Yeah, that one was really cool.
01:50:13
Speaker
I really enjoyed it too.
01:50:14
Speaker
I think it was very self-aware of like how campy it was.
01:50:18
Speaker
I feel like they knew exactly what they were doing with that house.
01:50:20
Speaker
So it was just a good time.
01:50:22
Speaker
I don't have much to say about it.
01:50:24
Speaker
You guys said, you know, pretty much everything, but I have it at number seven.
01:50:30
Speaker
And that's the difference between Goblin Feast and Major Sweets, I think, is that they are self-aware of how campy it is, and they're going for that.
01:50:38
Speaker
I feel like Major Sweets was going for scary, and they just didn't hit it for me.
01:50:45
Speaker
I definitely saw that, yeah.
01:50:46
Speaker
The vibe in Goblins was for sure sillier on the whole, yeah.
01:50:51
Speaker
By the way, Marcus just found it, so I'm sharing it to you guys.
01:50:56
Speaker
For me, this is actually probably going to surprise y'all.
01:50:58
Speaker
I had this at number eight.
01:51:01
Speaker
With that said, though, I really enjoyed it.
01:51:04
Speaker
It's just like the ones above it.
01:51:08
Speaker
There's a clear... Kind of like my rankings anyways.
01:51:11
Speaker
One, two are a clear step above everything else.
01:51:16
Speaker
Three through five are kind of interchangeable.
01:51:19
Speaker
Six through eight are interchangeable.
01:51:20
Speaker
And then nine and ten are just straight booty cheeks.
01:51:24
Speaker
So this one is like, it just has to be eight.
01:51:28
Speaker
And I really enjoyed it.
01:51:29
Speaker
I love like the video screen and like the.
01:51:33
Speaker
Like when you look up.
01:51:34
Speaker
Through like the tree or whatever that's supposed to be like at the sawmill.
01:51:38
Speaker
Like, and you see like the giant goblin.
01:51:41
Speaker
I thought that was really well done.
01:51:43
Speaker
So I enjoyed it a lot.
01:51:45
Speaker
It was a, it was a good maze, but eight sounds too harsh, but I really enjoyed it.
01:51:51
Speaker
Yeah, I don't have too much to add.
01:51:53
Speaker
I had it in the middle, five.
01:51:56
Speaker
I really enjoyed the campiness.
01:51:58
Speaker
I felt like this one felt the most like seasonal, like Halloween-y.
01:52:02
Speaker
Like it gave, it gave like Halloween Thanksgiving vibes.
01:52:09
Speaker
I think that there should always be like a, that kind of a house.
01:52:14
Speaker
Oddly enough, like, and it certainly isn't anything like this house, but
01:52:21
Speaker
it kind of gave me initially Darkest Deal vibes.
01:52:25
Speaker
Darkest Deal was my favorite house last year.
01:52:28
Speaker
I think Darkest Deal, although a lot darker, kind of started a little light with like the performer scene.
01:52:34
Speaker
And maybe that's like what it was.
01:52:36
Speaker
It was like, oh, we're doing some music and we're performing.
01:52:39
Speaker
And then now all this crazy stuff's going to happen.
01:52:43
Speaker
That's just like a comparison that I made.
01:52:46
Speaker
But we did Goblins twice.
01:52:49
Speaker
I'm like, oh, I wish this was as good as Darkest Deal, but I still really did enjoy it.
01:52:54
Speaker
Totally different house, but not a ton of like great scares, which is maybe why I don't rank it quite as high.
01:53:02
Speaker
And it felt a little bit short, like in duration, but.
01:53:08
Speaker
Yes, I'm with you.
01:53:10
Speaker
Sorry, I'm looking at the TDR scale of awesome and it is very, very, very dated and needs some major updates.
01:53:20
Speaker
And I can't find Dumpster Fire on here anywhere.
01:53:23
Speaker
Yeah, Dumpster Fire is not on there.
01:53:25
Speaker
Okay, let's keep going.
01:53:27
Speaker
We got to speed it up.
01:53:30
Speaker
People are going to have to double speed it.
01:53:32
Speaker
Monsters Eternal Bloodlines.
01:53:35
Speaker
This was my number one.
01:53:36
Speaker
This was my very solid house.
01:53:39
Speaker
This was I got so fucked in this house.
01:53:46
Speaker
I was destroyed by the zip line and then I got hit on the other side and I
01:53:54
Speaker
might have actually like whiplash my neck and pulled something because like I was so sore after that from that house on it was so freaking good I loved it this house was absolutely my favorite uh the false ending was incredible um like where you think it's over and then it still goes and then bam um
01:54:19
Speaker
I was, I mean, I was right next to you during that double scare with the bungee and then the crossbow.
01:54:23
Speaker
And I was like, Oh, it was so good.
01:54:25
Speaker
The timing was just perfect.
01:54:27
Speaker
But like also with that, like, um, you know, I saw the bungee like before and I knew it was coming, but like, it was like the strobe got me.
01:54:37
Speaker
You don't realize like how close it's going to get to you.
01:54:46
Speaker
I also really liked the sets in this house.
01:54:47
Speaker
I thought they were well done.
01:54:49
Speaker
Again, like for a tent, I wasn't expecting the level that there was.
01:54:52
Speaker
And compared to Goblin's Feast, which was in the same exact size tent, this one felt longer.
01:54:57
Speaker
Because like there was a moment where you were like, oh, it's over.
01:54:59
Speaker
But then it kept going and you were like, oh, cool.
01:55:02
Speaker
And then there was kind of like some, I appreciate there was like a recurring sort of room, I guess, with like the ruins and like the book.
01:55:09
Speaker
And you would like kind of walk through that to go into like each new area.
01:55:11
Speaker
And I thought that was kind of cool.
01:55:14
Speaker
Yeah, the sets were great.
01:55:15
Speaker
I had it as number two.
01:55:17
Speaker
I know a lot of people hated on this one this year.
01:55:19
Speaker
I know that had it as number 10, which is just wild.
01:55:24
Speaker
I mean, maybe I just got really good runs, but there were so many actors every single time I went through.
01:55:30
Speaker
So number two, super solid.
01:55:34
Speaker
Do you feel like that changed through the season, Rafa?
01:55:36
Speaker
Because a lot of the podcasts I listened to said exactly what Tyler said.
01:55:39
Speaker
It was like sparse on actors, couldn't follow the storyline.
01:55:43
Speaker
I don't know because I went earlier in the season and I had great runs every single time.
01:55:50
Speaker
I think people are comparing it way too much to the previous Universal Monster Houses.
01:55:55
Speaker
which were very strong houses, but this isn't, you know, that bad compared to it.
01:56:00
Speaker
They're making it seem as if it was such like a letdown compared to those two, those previous two houses or three houses.
01:56:07
Speaker
I thought it was great.
01:56:08
Speaker
It was just as good in the beginning of the season as it was this past weekend.
01:56:12
Speaker
I enjoyed the one like this year better than last year.
01:56:14
Speaker
I will say the one last year had more impressive sets, but like the scares in this one were like way better.
01:56:23
Speaker
I love that it was all
01:56:25
Speaker
lady scare actors.
01:56:28
Speaker
I had it at number four.
01:56:29
Speaker
Just, I really, really loved it.
01:56:31
Speaker
I just liked the three I had above it a little bit more.
01:56:37
Speaker
Slaughter Cinema 2.
01:56:39
Speaker
Who wants to take that one first?
01:56:42
Speaker
I also really enjoyed the film.
01:56:46
Speaker
That said, it's like number six for me, but like I loved the campiness and like just like the different feel of going through like the different houses or the different
01:56:55
Speaker
movies and the different genres it was it was fun i enjoyed it a lot uh yeah it was good i'm realizing as we're doing this we didn't explain what any of these are whatsoever to the people who have no idea what hhn is but it's it's that ship has sailed it has too late that's been sailed i mean you did explain it that one time in the podcast no yeah so listen to that episode go back to that one we've been there there we go
01:57:23
Speaker
But yeah, this was my number two, actually.
01:57:26
Speaker
I really, really liked it.
01:57:27
Speaker
And the best comparison I came up with is when I go to a restaurant, especially with my family, I liked all of us to order different things.
01:57:36
Speaker
And then we get the little sharing plates and we try everything.
01:57:38
Speaker
That's what this maze felt like.
01:57:40
Speaker
I got to try little pieces of the different genres.
01:57:44
Speaker
And even though each section of the different films that they were doing was pretty short...
01:57:50
Speaker
It's still, it's still kind of worked for me.
01:57:52
Speaker
And I liked the consistent like movie poster transition before each one.
01:57:56
Speaker
That was the perfect way to like set up.
01:57:58
Speaker
Because I had no idea what any of these films were because they're all like, you know, like B horror films from however many years ago, but like having the posters there and you're like, okay, cool.
01:58:06
Speaker
This is going to be it.
01:58:07
Speaker
And then you walk in and you're like,
01:58:09
Speaker
here we are and like they just had some silly rooms that i really appreciated like the the strippers the mummy yeah hilarious and then like the um like the skeletons like with the um heavy metal that was hilarious too but then you have those and then there were other ones that were like way more like horror actual horror vibes and not as campy so i like it had a good balance for me and everything and i definitely got got a couple times in there
01:58:35
Speaker
These aren't real movies, right?
01:58:36
Speaker
Didn't Universal make these up?
01:58:39
Speaker
They made them up.
01:58:41
Speaker
So they're just inspired by old B-films.
01:58:44
Speaker
I had it at number four.
01:58:47
Speaker
I think we can knock one of the questions out.
01:58:48
Speaker
Your favorite room in Slaughter Cinema.
01:58:51
Speaker
Mine was the, I forget what it's called, but the Jaws one with the giant shark.
01:58:57
Speaker
So that's my favorite room.
01:58:58
Speaker
That was very cool.
01:59:01
Speaker
Yeah, I saw in my little bit of like Easter egg spoilery stuff that they chose movies to celebrate the different aspects of Universal.
01:59:10
Speaker
So like the Mardi Gras room for their Mardi Gras celebration.
01:59:13
Speaker
They have a holiday room.
01:59:14
Speaker
They had the Jaws.
01:59:17
Speaker
They had, what else?
01:59:19
Speaker
Mummy strippers to celebrate mummies.
01:59:22
Speaker
So like pulled different aspects of like what makes Universal kind of famous and utilize them in the creation of the movies.
01:59:29
Speaker
I thought that was...
01:59:31
Speaker
Really cool and unique.
01:59:34
Speaker
Yeah, and I really like how this can potentially bring, like, feature houses in the future for HHN.
01:59:39
Speaker
Like, I know that they had, was it Yeti?
01:59:42
Speaker
Yeah, they had the Yeti a couple years ago in Slaughter Cinema, brought it over to its own house, and then who knows what we'll get.
01:59:48
Speaker
It'll be, like, a mummy stripper's house next year.
01:59:51
Speaker
That could be incredible.
01:59:52
Speaker
That would be amazing.
01:59:54
Speaker
That would be so funny.
02:00:00
Speaker
So I rated this a lot lower than like everyone else.
02:00:05
Speaker
Unfortunately, I was really excited for it, but I have it at number eight.
02:00:09
Speaker
I just like didn't get any scares both times I went through.
02:00:14
Speaker
Like it just really felt to me like a walkthrough exhibit of like different movies, which I still think the theming, like I love the idea of it.
02:00:22
Speaker
I just didn't like really enjoy it as like a horror house.
02:00:27
Speaker
But I see the potential and how other people would have enjoyed it.
02:00:30
Speaker
I just didn't as much as I thought.
02:00:36
Speaker
Should we close it out with museum?
02:00:44
Speaker
Yeah, I think this is another house that is overhated this season, and I don't know why.
02:00:49
Speaker
I think the sets are pretty sick.
02:00:52
Speaker
I think that the scares are great.
02:00:54
Speaker
They're very hidden.
02:00:55
Speaker
I feel like some of these scares, there's this one room where they have this one character camouflaging with the wall, and you have no idea that they're even standing there.
02:01:08
Speaker
I just think this one was very cool, and I think the story was really cool, too.
02:01:14
Speaker
I actually have that one at number four.
02:01:18
Speaker
I had it at number seven.
02:01:22
Speaker
I didn't love the story.
02:01:23
Speaker
I feel like it was a little bit hard to follow.
02:01:26
Speaker
Like at one point you're on a ship, I think.
02:01:30
Speaker
That was a little confusing.
02:01:32
Speaker
I will say it had what might be the best scare of any house there.
02:01:37
Speaker
That first room, the dude that's like blending in with the desk.
02:01:42
Speaker
My first couple of run-throughs, I did not see that guy, or I guess I saw him, but I did not know he was a real person.
02:01:49
Speaker
And then we got that scare on Friday night.
02:01:55
Speaker
I think it was me, Kelly.
02:01:56
Speaker
Who was behind us, Kelly?
02:01:56
Speaker
I think we were all there.
02:01:57
Speaker
That was incredible.
02:01:59
Speaker
That's the one where โ I think we were all, like, stuck in that room, and we were all, like โ
02:02:06
Speaker
It takes a lot, like, or like, so like the scariness for me, like the difference, like Trail of Terror, I was cussing out like every single scare actor.
02:02:17
Speaker
I was just like a mess.
02:02:19
Speaker
This was the only one where I think I just turned, just was like, I just let it out at him.
02:02:28
Speaker
And it was, everyone, you guys all started laughing.
02:02:32
Speaker
Oh, it was amazing.
02:02:34
Speaker
I got got real good.
02:02:35
Speaker
I'll go into the nitty gritty of what I said on TDR.
02:02:42
Speaker
I think what made it so effective is that like the conga line had kind of slowed for us in that room.
02:02:48
Speaker
And so we had a little bit extra time to like look around and we were looking at this thing.
02:02:53
Speaker
I think I even pointed at it or somebody had pointed at it and it was like, oh, that's a really cool prop.
02:02:57
Speaker
And then we kind of looked away from it.
02:02:58
Speaker
Instead of like immediately lunging on us when we said it was a prop, they waited a little bit longer and
02:03:03
Speaker
And gave it that pause and then hit us.
02:03:06
Speaker
We were like, holy crap.
02:03:09
Speaker
The second night, he was like already moving around, like not in position to stare.
02:03:14
Speaker
And I was like, damn.
02:03:17
Speaker
I was ready for him.
02:03:21
Speaker
Great house, though.
02:03:23
Speaker
I don't know if I gave my ranking.
02:03:28
Speaker
I thought it was a really neat like concept.
02:03:30
Speaker
The execution was okay.
02:03:34
Speaker
Like obviously you could tell it was a museum.
02:03:36
Speaker
Like they had the little labels everywhere and I was like, oh, that's cute.
02:03:38
Speaker
But like the, I don't know, the rooms felt kind of samey in some places.
02:03:45
Speaker
A little hard to follow.
02:03:46
Speaker
Would have appreciated.
02:03:48
Speaker
easier like transitions like slaughter cinema style, how they had the movie posters.
02:03:53
Speaker
Like I know they had the little labels to make it look like museum, but if those were like maybe a little bigger or there was like a title, like you're going into this gallery.
02:04:02
Speaker
Like I just had no idea what we were really looking at.
02:04:04
Speaker
I was just like watching the rotting stone, which I thought was beautiful by the way, how they had it like colored and shimmery.
02:04:09
Speaker
That actually reminded me of dueling dragons.
02:04:16
Speaker
Yeah, a little bit.
02:04:21
Speaker
All right, we've done it.
02:04:21
Speaker
We've gone through all the houses.
02:04:23
Speaker
Let's try to hop through the zones pretty quickly.
02:04:26
Speaker
The first one, duality of fear, is a poor excuse for a zone.
02:04:30
Speaker
I was going to say, what is there to say?
02:04:31
Speaker
It's like two icons on top of a thing and some chainsaws.
02:04:35
Speaker
If they're even there.
02:04:36
Speaker
If they're not, it's just they have like a couple of chainsaw people.
02:04:41
Speaker
I also hate the placement of this as a scare zone because like so many people are already at the event.
02:04:46
Speaker
And so the only people that experience it are the people walking through the main gate.
02:04:50
Speaker
I think they should like leave the trust.
02:04:51
Speaker
Like that's iconic.
02:04:52
Speaker
The HHN sign there that you walk through.
02:04:55
Speaker
But if the icon zone were like further into the park, I feel like more people would get to experience it.
02:05:01
Speaker
I feel like that's such a dead zone right there.
02:05:04
Speaker
I don't know why they moved it this year.
02:05:06
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know.
02:05:09
Speaker
And like last year it was pretty small too, but like Oddfellow was always there interacting with people.
02:05:15
Speaker
Yeah, well having them up on the top, it's like, yeah.
02:05:17
Speaker
You can't really interact that much.
02:05:21
Speaker
I ranked it number five if we're ranking zones.
02:05:24
Speaker
Oh, I didn't even rank the zones.
02:05:27
Speaker
I know what my favorite was and that's about it.
02:05:29
Speaker
Yeah, I didn't rank them, but that's an easy five.
02:05:33
Speaker
Okay, next going the same direction, we have Torture Fair, which is supposed to be Sinister's
02:05:39
Speaker
scare zone that one i think was my favorite um it is so wide and there's so many people that it's hard to see everything but i thought the actors were really into it they had some great costumes uh like the one girl on the galas that was awesome um always good vibes you had the i guess the king and the queen up there on the stage so i really enjoyed that one that was my favorite scare zone
02:06:07
Speaker
I think that that was the best scare zone.
02:06:10
Speaker
That one and the swamp one.
02:06:13
Speaker
But this one, there was a lot of room that they could work with.
02:06:16
Speaker
There was a lot of different costumes in there.
02:06:22
Speaker
I really liked the theme.
02:06:24
Speaker
It wasn't my favorite, just I think because of how how vast that road is.
02:06:30
Speaker
Like you said, like it's kind of hard to like make it feel like as spooky when it when it
02:06:36
Speaker
Doesn't feel as claustrophobic to me for zones, at least.
02:06:41
Speaker
I just feel like it was like maybe a little it was definitely better walking through it the second night when it was dark, as opposed to like the first night we were kind of in that area when it was still light out, which really like does make a difference.
02:06:52
Speaker
And then also like comparing it to vamp, which was there last year, I feel like.
02:06:57
Speaker
Vamp was so strong.
02:06:58
Speaker
What I love about some of the scare zones is like when you're walking and you can't tell if the people walking by you are scare actors or real people and vamp did that so well.
02:07:06
Speaker
That's like how I got scared.
02:07:08
Speaker
Whereas like people walking around with torture devices on them.
02:07:11
Speaker
It's like, okay, that person is very obvious.
02:07:16
Speaker
I actually ranked it number three of my scare zones.
02:07:21
Speaker
That's probably where I have it as well.
02:07:22
Speaker
I don't literally care about the scare zones because they weren't scary at all and they were pretty lame.
02:07:28
Speaker
I mean... Torture Fair, yeah, cool.
02:07:33
Speaker
I like the props and sets, but it didn't... They had music.
02:07:38
Speaker
The over-screening and over-grinding of sound effects was so... I was down.
02:07:47
Speaker
That actually did bother me.
02:07:48
Speaker
They had like the sound effect like on the like dubbed into the audio was just like that like woman screaming.
02:07:55
Speaker
And like after a while I was like, okay, this like bothers me.
02:07:58
Speaker
Maybe it's from like, I hear a lot of screaming in my daily life.
02:08:04
Speaker
I'm like, I don't really like it.
02:08:09
Speaker
Speaking of lame and not scary, that's a good transition to Blumhouse.
02:08:15
Speaker
Did I did we even go through it?
02:08:17
Speaker
I don't remember anything.
02:08:18
Speaker
We kind of missed the meat of it on Friday because we when we we exited major suites, we were kind of like on the other side of it already.
02:08:27
Speaker
But it basically, to me, and again, no, nothing against this characters.
02:08:32
Speaker
They were doing great with what they were given, but it really felt like an advertisement and like a photo op.
02:08:38
Speaker
I think that's all it was.
02:08:41
Speaker
I think that's fine, but don't call it a scare zone then.
02:08:47
Speaker
That was my number four ranked.
02:08:52
Speaker
And then in Central Park, we had Swamp of the Undead.
02:08:56
Speaker
This was my favorite for vibes.
02:08:58
Speaker
I always like this one because it's like the trees and it's more narrow and claustrophobic.
02:09:02
Speaker
And yeah, it wasn't as good as last year's there.
02:09:06
Speaker
Jungle of Doom was better, but this is still my number one this year.
02:09:11
Speaker
Normally that's my favorite area for scare zones.
02:09:14
Speaker
This was my number two.
02:09:15
Speaker
I feel like they could have just done more.
02:09:18
Speaker
I don't remember what year it was, but a few years ago they had all the pumpkins hanging from the trees.
02:09:22
Speaker
I'm sure you remember that one, but that was just gorgeous.
02:09:26
Speaker
And they had nothing like that this year.
02:09:28
Speaker
So it was good for just some props set on the ground.
02:09:33
Speaker
And then they had the mist that was good, but overall kind of a down year for scare zones, I think.
02:09:43
Speaker
And then lastly, we had Demon Queens, which apparently won ScareZone of the Year.
02:09:51
Speaker
I don't know who does these votes on these things, but Insidious won House of the Year and Demon Queens.
02:09:58
Speaker
I don't know if this is like the official thing, but I saw people talking about it on Twitter.
02:10:02
Speaker
Yeah, I saw that too.
02:10:03
Speaker
It's like an internal universal thing or...
02:10:08
Speaker
I mean, I could see it.
02:10:09
Speaker
Like I did feel that the actors in this zone were pretty good.
02:10:12
Speaker
Like they were getting in my face and there were a lot of them and the costumes were pretty cool.
02:10:17
Speaker
It's, it definitely suffers from the same thing as like torture fair in terms of the width of the zone.
02:10:21
Speaker
Like they do try to put some props like right in the middle, which I appreciate because that kind of forces you to like go one way or the other, but it's still kind of just a little bit too open to get like claustrophobic or feel forced into the scares.
02:10:36
Speaker
Yeah, it was my number two.
02:10:37
Speaker
I really liked the lighting and the coloring and keeping it in line was surreal.
02:10:41
Speaker
The blues and purples, I thought that was really pretty.
02:10:44
Speaker
And I agree, the acting and the costuming was great.
02:10:56
Speaker
I remember scare zones being the not scary from scare zones with the sliders and you can't really move and it's actually scary.
02:11:07
Speaker
And those were actually scarier back then than the houses.
02:11:10
Speaker
So it's like random, oh, hey, there's two people walking and then they go, boo!
02:11:18
Speaker
It's like, oh, okay.
02:11:19
Speaker
There's just too many guests to do that safely anymore.
02:11:23
Speaker
It's so crowded going through there.
02:11:25
Speaker
Right, right, right.
02:11:26
Speaker
I'm not saying they should have sliders at all.
02:11:28
Speaker
I'm just saying it's like... Yeah.
02:11:30
Speaker
I think they need to work on, and I know I said this before, but I feel like it really makes a huge difference when there's some sort of
02:11:38
Speaker
cohesive element that ties all of the zones together because then it doesn't feel like, Oh, I'm walking through this thing for two minutes.
02:11:45
Speaker
It's like, I'm walking through this part of the thing.
02:11:47
Speaker
And then when I go up here, I'm going to see this other part of the same thing.
02:11:51
Speaker
Didn't happen that way this year.
02:11:56
Speaker
Moving on to food and beverage, we can kind of just like briefly,
02:12:00
Speaker
You're excited now.
02:12:01
Speaker
Food and beverage.
02:12:03
Speaker
I'm just looking at the time.
02:12:04
Speaker
I'm like, oh my God.
02:12:06
Speaker
We're getting there.
02:12:06
Speaker
We get shit for a long TDR episode.
02:12:08
Speaker
People don't have to listen if they're bored.
02:12:13
Speaker
Maybe next year we'll split it up.
02:12:18
Speaker
I'm just impressed that you're doing this long of an episode.
02:12:20
Speaker
You're passionate.
02:12:23
Speaker
I, speaking of passionate, I was very passionate this year.
02:12:26
Speaker
I did my research on all of the different food offerings and tried my best, even though I was stuffing myself completely full to try a variety of different foods.
02:12:36
Speaker
Barely drank any alcoholic beverages this year.
02:12:39
Speaker
I had a little bit of ghoul juice, which I always have.
02:12:42
Speaker
And I also tried Veil of Shadows from the Insidious booth.
02:12:47
Speaker
It had the black licorice in it.
02:12:49
Speaker
And that was decent, but very sugary as many of the drinks are.
02:12:54
Speaker
So that's all I can really say about beverages.
02:12:57
Speaker
Maybe we keep it on beverages.
02:12:58
Speaker
What did you drink?
02:12:59
Speaker
Oh, I sipped the three daughters flight from the Triplets of Terror booth
02:13:08
Speaker
It was on a good flight.
02:13:09
Speaker
Like, I will be very objective.
02:13:11
Speaker
That flight was pretty awful.
02:13:16
Speaker
And then I also had whatever that super sugary drink is that I ended up just like,
02:13:24
Speaker
You have the IPA though too.
02:13:25
Speaker
Yeah, I'm getting that.
02:13:27
Speaker
Like the, that sugary drink that I think I just poured in Tyler's High Noon and a couple other people.
02:13:33
Speaker
Cause it was like, it was too much for me.
02:13:35
Speaker
Like I can't do that much like sugary of a drink.
02:13:38
Speaker
I did have like the ecto cooler sour and that just like destroyed my stomach.
02:13:44
Speaker
Cause I drank that on like an empty stomach and I had like
02:13:47
Speaker
severe heartburn and I was just dying for a Tums in that moment.
02:13:51
Speaker
Let me just age myself a little more.
02:13:55
Speaker
And then I had some blood orange IPA that was actually very good when I went to go get my blinky cup, but they were out of blinky cups.
02:14:10
Speaker
Yeah, I think I only had the gold juice.
02:14:13
Speaker
Gold juice for the win.
02:14:15
Speaker
Yeah, I had like a surreal soda.
02:14:18
Speaker
I think that, yeah, that was pretty good.
02:14:22
Speaker
I just had a couple high noons.
02:14:27
Speaker
Food-wise, I'll run through everything I had at...
02:14:31
Speaker
The beginning, before the event started, we got the little Stay Puff s'more from the Ghostbusters booth.
02:14:40
Speaker
Delicious, classic s'more, but it was like very well proportioned.
02:14:46
Speaker
The first one came out with a little bit of a char.
02:14:50
Speaker
So I actually was that girl and I went back up and I was like, can I have a different one?
02:14:55
Speaker
Because I don't even like my general s'mores like burned.
02:15:00
Speaker
I'm not like a brown marshmallow kind of girl, like give it a little tan tinge and that's good enough.
02:15:05
Speaker
This whole thing was black and the cracker was black too.
02:15:08
Speaker
I was like, nah, that's not going to be my vibe.
02:15:11
Speaker
Don't get to mark level with the burn.
02:15:14
Speaker
I even told the guy torching it when he... Because they were like re-torching ones when I went up to be that girl.
02:15:19
Speaker
I was like, you could... That's good.
02:15:27
Speaker
But it was very good.
02:15:29
Speaker
Then I had my favorite food item of the event.
02:15:32
Speaker
It was actually eggs in the further from the Insidious booth.
02:15:35
Speaker
It was like this jalapeno, like, brioche, like, slice of bread.
02:15:40
Speaker
In the middle was the egg.
02:15:42
Speaker
And then they had...
02:15:44
Speaker
like a bunch of like different seasonings and like some type of sauce on there.
02:15:50
Speaker
It was a little spicy from the jalapeno.
02:15:53
Speaker
I would have eaten like five more of those.
02:15:56
Speaker
I had pumpkin guts from the Goblins booth, which was just basically like different zoodles.
02:16:03
Speaker
And it was like served in a squash.
02:16:06
Speaker
Squash wasn't great, but all of the noodles was really, really good.
02:16:10
Speaker
Had the apple pie from that booth as well with the raspberry drizzle on it.
02:16:17
Speaker
I had, what did I have next?
02:16:18
Speaker
I had the walking taco, um, which was my first HHN walking taco.
02:16:23
Speaker
I was a little underwhelmed.
02:16:26
Speaker
Um, I think that was everything the first night, the second night I had the say cheeseburger from the triplets booth, which was like a classic theme park cheeseburger, but it had like a cheesier bun and was a little smaller.
02:16:39
Speaker
And I also had the Abbott Farm chowder, which was like a shrimp corn chowder from the Quiet Place booth.
02:16:46
Speaker
And that was also delicious.
02:16:48
Speaker
The shrimp, one of my shrimpies was a little cold.
02:16:50
Speaker
That kind of gave me the ick, but I powered through.
02:16:53
Speaker
The other shrimp were fine and it was delicious.
02:16:58
Speaker
Overall, the food was good.
02:17:00
Speaker
I know you disagree.
02:17:01
Speaker
I completely disagree.
02:17:02
Speaker
The food was very... You are a very bland picky eater.
02:17:06
Speaker
Not offensive, but you like your things.
02:17:11
Speaker
I thought you liked that chicken wing thing.
02:17:13
Speaker
Yeah, I was going to say I liked the turkey wing, but the burger was not good.
02:17:18
Speaker
It was pretty good.
02:17:19
Speaker
It was a generic theme park burger, which is not good.
02:17:22
Speaker
It was better than generic.
02:17:23
Speaker
I thought it was better than generic.
02:17:26
Speaker
It just wasn't seasoned.
02:17:27
Speaker
It was very bland.
02:17:29
Speaker
I had the Camp Glizzy.
02:17:33
Speaker
Without the beans.
02:17:34
Speaker
Yeah, okay, fine, without the beans.
02:17:37
Speaker
It just wasn't very good.
02:17:40
Speaker
It was just Cheetos and nacho cheese.
02:17:44
Speaker
That was when I was hurting after that sour beer and that did not help it.
02:17:54
Speaker
Apple pie you ate.
02:17:55
Speaker
I did enjoy the apple pie.
02:17:57
Speaker
I don't remember what else I ate.
02:18:02
Speaker
What did you guys eat?
02:18:04
Speaker
I tried the chocolate Tres Seches.
02:18:07
Speaker
That was really good.
02:18:09
Speaker
That was really, really good.
02:18:10
Speaker
I wanted to get that.
02:18:12
Speaker
That was really good.
02:18:14
Speaker
We tried the marshmallow, the s'mores as well.
02:18:15
Speaker
And that was about it.
02:18:18
Speaker
And then, of course, pizza fries.
02:18:19
Speaker
You can't... I can't miss that.
02:18:21
Speaker
I always have to have that.
02:18:21
Speaker
But yeah, that was about it.
02:18:24
Speaker
That was my favorite food from the event was the pizza fries.
02:18:28
Speaker
I didn't get them last year because, honestly, it was a mess over there with the two mazes.
02:18:32
Speaker
But it was like a walk-up.
02:18:35
Speaker
And I was like, these are delicious.
02:18:36
Speaker
And it hit the spot at...
02:18:38
Speaker
12 well actually might not been that late 11 p.m and they hit the spot um and i had the apple pie from the the goblins booth as well and that was really good and very sugary but delicious and uh the last one i got was the disappointing one it was the um like hand pie from the insidious booth and it was kind of bland it looked cool but didn't taste great i regret because i should have got the eggs in the further oh well
02:19:11
Speaker
Tyler, did you eat any food?
02:19:16
Speaker
I didn't want to eat in the park.
02:19:17
Speaker
Well, first you tried to get Taco Bell, but...
02:19:20
Speaker
That's a whole other story.
02:19:21
Speaker
But yeah, I already said I had the burger.
02:19:28
Speaker
The chocolate doesn't really melt though.
02:19:29
Speaker
So that's a little disappointing, but I'd rather have that than burnt like Kelly had.
02:19:36
Speaker
Also had the pizza fries and those hit so hard.
02:19:39
Speaker
We were so famished at that point, I think.
02:19:42
Speaker
God, it was so right.
02:19:45
Speaker
And then I also had the apple pie, which was very good.
02:19:50
Speaker
Let's talk about Nightmare Fuel.
02:19:53
Speaker
This year it was a theme change to Nocturnal Circus.
02:19:56
Speaker
What did you guys think?
02:19:59
Speaker
I did not like it as much as last year, actually.
02:20:03
Speaker
I feel like that's an unpopular opinion, maybe.
02:20:06
Speaker
Maybe not, but... I agree with you.
02:20:09
Speaker
I like the magic more, and I feel like there was less magic.
02:20:13
Speaker
And this time around, there was just...
02:20:15
Speaker
Yeah, there was too much going on.
02:20:17
Speaker
Like you had stuff on the very front of the stage, stuff in the middle, stuff in the background.
02:20:22
Speaker
And I just could not focus on stuff.
02:20:24
Speaker
And I feel like I missed a lot.
02:20:25
Speaker
So maybe that was just a little ADD going on, but I liked last year better.
02:20:30
Speaker
Yeah, that was my problem with it because I thought that the theme was going to lend itself to what Nightmare Fuel is a lot better because it's like, well, circus, well, they're doing these amazing acrobatics and magic and all of that stuff fits with the circus.
02:20:44
Speaker
But I feel like I did enjoy the storytelling of the beginning and the end of it.
02:20:49
Speaker
But the middle for me was...
02:20:52
Speaker
very impressive, like a lot of the stuff that was going on, but it didn't have enough focus for me.
02:20:56
Speaker
And maybe that's because I'm a theater person and I come from that world where like the storytelling is very specific and the lighting design and everything, it tends to like focus you on where is the thing happening.
02:21:06
Speaker
And for this show, there's just so much pyro, so much dancing, so many things all happening at once that you, at least for me, like I missed some of the really cool like stuff that I felt like there should have been like spotlight on that happening.
02:21:18
Speaker
Cause there's like
02:21:19
Speaker
you know, some crazy acrobatics moment happening.
02:21:21
Speaker
Meanwhile, oops, I was like looking over there because they distracted me with fire and I missed it.
02:21:26
Speaker
And then everybody's clapping and you're like, what just happened?
02:21:29
Speaker
It's kind of an onslaught for me.
02:21:30
Speaker
And there's not really like a, there's not too many like valleys, like peaks and valleys to it in terms of the energy is just kind of blast your face the whole time.
02:21:39
Speaker
So I wish it had a little bit more dynamics to it.
02:21:41
Speaker
And I felt like last year they did a better job with that.
02:21:44
Speaker
It's still really fun though.
02:21:44
Speaker
It's very impressive, like the amount of athleticism that goes on there.
02:21:49
Speaker
Yeah, I fully agree with everything you said.
02:21:51
Speaker
I think I liked this year just a little bit more.
02:21:53
Speaker
And I think it was just the storytelling aspect was a little easier for me to follow this year, like the beginning, the middle of the end.
02:22:00
Speaker
Like I love how they brought it back.
02:22:04
Speaker
I tend to focus on the dancers because I come from a dance background.
Nightmare Fuel Show & Audience Questions
02:22:11
Speaker
kind of the least amazing, not taking away from the dancers, they're doing great work.
02:22:15
Speaker
And some of those guys were living their best life.
02:22:19
Speaker
But that's kind of like the least crazy aspect of Nightmare Fuel.
02:22:25
Speaker
Like there's the magic and like the spinning by her hair girl, which like always concerns me, that girl.
02:22:31
Speaker
Um, but I feel like I get distracted, like you said, by the dancers and then I like miss stuff overall.
02:22:38
Speaker
I got distracted by the, um, people in like the sound booth with the little like light up, um, sticks.
02:22:45
Speaker
Doing the choreography with, with like the dancers.
02:22:48
Speaker
That, that like actually completely took me out of it.
02:22:54
Speaker
At least it wasn't the audience members.
02:22:56
Speaker
Yeah, at least it wasn't the audience members being like super cringy, singing really loud and ruining the entire thing for me.
02:23:06
Speaker
Just the worst humans.
02:23:08
Speaker
I'll never hear the end of this.
02:23:14
Speaker
The number of times I've heard you say that is so mad.
02:23:18
Speaker
Even going into Nightmare Fuel this year, he's like, I already can see it.
02:23:25
Speaker
Nah, it was the lady in front of us who was recording that was pissing me off this time.
02:23:30
Speaker
They came and found her, didn't they?
02:23:33
Speaker
Well, she kept recording, man.
02:23:36
Speaker
She kept recording.
02:23:36
Speaker
It's like, kick her ass out.
02:23:38
Speaker
What are you doing?
02:23:39
Speaker
Yeah, I noticed that.
02:23:41
Speaker
Just kick them out.
02:23:44
Speaker
You're going to show it to one person one time and never have it on your phone again.
02:23:52
Speaker
All that said, it was cool.
02:23:54
Speaker
We're going to run through some questions.
02:23:59
Speaker
We touched on some of these, so we can probably skip some.
02:24:02
Speaker
Thank you to everyone in the Discord who left questions because zero people on Twitter did.
02:24:07
Speaker
I got a couple on Instagram, but I think they already deleted it because it's been more than 24 hours.
02:24:13
Speaker
Because you said, hey, do this.
02:24:17
Speaker
Sorry, Instagram people.
02:24:21
Speaker
First question is from Nate and it is for Tyler.
02:24:25
Speaker
How does HHN Orlando compare to Hollywood?
02:24:28
Speaker
Yeah, so I got to do both this year.
02:24:30
Speaker
So I feel like I got a pretty good comparison.
02:24:32
Speaker
Orlando is definitely better hands down.
02:24:36
Speaker
And it's it's really not that close.
02:24:39
Speaker
Um, one thing I did like about Hollywood though, is all the facades were outside and all of them, or at least most of them had some sort of actor at the facade, just kind of walking around or, you know, they have some generic speech or whatever.
02:24:56
Speaker
So it really sets the tone for the house as opposed to Orlando where it's just endless queue.
02:25:02
Speaker
And then you just go in the door of the soundstage.
02:25:05
Speaker
So that is a positive.
02:25:08
Speaker
Do they use sound stages at Hollywood or is it more like tent based?
02:25:12
Speaker
Yeah, it's almost all sound stages.
02:25:15
Speaker
A lot of them are on the lower lot.
02:25:17
Speaker
So those when you do the studio tour, you're kind of going past some of the sound stages that they use there.
02:25:27
Speaker
And that being said, since they have different spaces that they're using, I felt like there were more kind of just dark, empty hallways in Hollywood.
02:25:35
Speaker
I don't know if that's a thing or not, but it certainly felt that way.
02:25:39
Speaker
You're just the transition.
02:25:41
Speaker
There's nothing there.
02:25:42
Speaker
It's just darkness.
02:25:44
Speaker
And it really kind of takes away from the house.
02:25:47
Speaker
They had a couple different houses, actually.
02:25:48
Speaker
So this year they had a weekend house.
02:25:51
Speaker
So similar to like what they had last year.
02:25:53
Speaker
And then they also had Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
02:25:56
Speaker
So the weekend was awesome.
02:25:58
Speaker
That was actually one of my favorite houses.
02:26:00
Speaker
And Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I really don't remember it that much.
02:26:04
Speaker
So I think it was just kind of average.
02:26:08
Speaker
And then also Terror Tram.
02:26:10
Speaker
So they have the studio tour tram during the day.
02:26:13
Speaker
which takes you through the sound stages.
02:26:15
Speaker
You see the different movies and stuff.
02:26:17
Speaker
But Terror Tram, you get on the tram and then it drops you off at, they call it like a house.
02:26:24
Speaker
It's really more of just an outdoor scare zone.
02:26:27
Speaker
So this year was Blumhouse.
02:26:29
Speaker
You just walk through the Blumhouse scare zone and then you get back on the tram and it takes you back.
02:26:35
Speaker
It's nothing super special, but it's nice to have something a little bit different than you have in Orlando.
02:26:43
Speaker
I think they only had eight houses this year also.
02:26:44
Speaker
So just not quite as big of a scale and just not the same quality as Orlando.
02:26:57
Speaker
Move back to Philly.
02:26:59
Speaker
I have one from Instagram.
02:27:03
Speaker
Yeah, I put these in kind of a logical order.
02:27:05
Speaker
Is that kind of the same?
02:27:07
Speaker
No, it's completely off topic.
02:27:09
Speaker
It's not even related to HHN, so.
02:27:11
Speaker
Oh, can I save it?
02:27:16
Speaker
Keith asked us to compare HHN to local haunts.
02:27:20
Speaker
What does it do better or worse?
02:27:21
Speaker
I feel like we touched on this a little bit.
02:27:25
Speaker
It's the set design.
02:27:26
Speaker
That's the biggest difference, honestly.
02:27:30
Speaker
Because like the actors at Local Han sometimes give it their all in the same way that they might at AJ Chen and
02:27:35
Speaker
it's well and also the way that HHN does like the trigger jump scares and the audio is different like they typically don't have like an actual live vocal performance for the actors and that's a little different kind of something to get used to but yeah budget that's what I was gonna say I noticed this year HHN did a lot of like door drop and air gun scares which maybe they always have but I never recognized them so much and I feel like that's more utilized at like
02:28:05
Speaker
local haunts so that was kind of like a similarity that i noticed they tried some different different stuff at hhn or at least it seemed that way to me this year and no i noticed that it was a lot more than previously i don't remember them doing that as much there was at least two haunts that had the doors and they scare me because they're so loud
02:28:24
Speaker
Well, we said it earlier too, and the local haunts like can get away with some weird stuff like that sometimes compared to what they can do there.
02:28:32
Speaker
I think, I think all of their mazes are ADA accessible, right?
02:28:35
Speaker
So you can literally like run a wheelchair through the whole thing, which is awesome.
02:28:39
Speaker
Like for, for people to be able to experience it.
02:28:41
Speaker
But some of the local haunts are able to do things, you know, that you wouldn't be able to do because like with having that level of access that are potentially scarier or more unsettling.
02:28:51
Speaker
We actually, when we went through with James two years ago, Mia was in a wheelchair because she was injured.
02:28:56
Speaker
So we went through every house like behind her in the wheelchair.
02:28:59
Speaker
And a lot of scares were aimed at her, which was really cool.
02:29:02
Speaker
They probably get excited.
02:29:06
Speaker
Ryan M asked about our favorite room in Slaughter Cinema.
02:29:09
Speaker
We covered that pretty well.
02:29:12
Speaker
Sexy Mike said he loves a jump scare.
02:29:15
Speaker
How well does HHN do jump scares?
02:29:19
Speaker
Depends on the timing.
02:29:23
Speaker
It's because it's a conga line.
02:29:24
Speaker
If like, that's the other difference between local haunts and HHN is that they typically will do grouping.
02:29:30
Speaker
So, you know, they'll send like eight people and then they'll wait and then they'll send another eight people.
02:29:34
Speaker
But HHN is literally just people, like a stream of people the whole way through.
02:29:39
Speaker
So you will miss things that you may, maybe if you separated a group, everybody gets the jump scare, but yeah.
02:29:44
Speaker
And it can make or break a run.
02:29:47
Speaker
I will say that that mirror effect is pretty effective.
02:29:51
Speaker
Like where you don't see that it's like an area.
02:29:53
Speaker
Like it's like the front of like where somebody else is hiding.
02:29:57
Speaker
I don't know if you guys noticed that with the mirrors.
02:29:59
Speaker
That's pretty effective with the jump scares.
02:30:01
Speaker
And they also have the actors have like two different openings.
02:30:04
Speaker
Like they'll jump out from one side and they'll jump out from the other.
02:30:07
Speaker
Like if they get you, they get you good.
02:30:10
Speaker
And they set up really good like, you know, double and triple scares where they misdirect you on purpose.
02:30:15
Speaker
It's just do you hit the timing of that?
02:30:17
Speaker
Distract you and then get you...
02:30:19
Speaker
Another great year that they do with utilizing jump scares is they have like the, they had a couple rooms of this in Insidious.
02:30:25
Speaker
They had it in Blood Moon last year where it was like a bunch of dummy, like a bunch of, like you don't know who the actor and who the static figures are.
02:30:35
Speaker
They're really good at those.
02:30:37
Speaker
Insidious had a good one this year too.
02:30:39
Speaker
Not quite as good as Blood Moon, but it was good.
02:30:43
Speaker
Blood Moon had like two, they had like the church one too.
02:30:46
Speaker
That's the one I was thinking of the church one.
02:30:49
Speaker
That one was scary.
02:30:56
Speaker
Show asked, what was your standout interaction with the scare actor this year?
02:31:00
Speaker
It was for sure the museum.
02:31:04
Speaker
The museum dude on the table.
02:31:06
Speaker
That was a standout scare for me, but interaction, like actually like talking to one was probably the, the silly like boatman at the bar at SeaWorld.
02:31:16
Speaker
They were just fun and they were talking to us and that was cool.
02:31:18
Speaker
Also shout out to the person.
02:31:21
Speaker
This wasn't even a scare actor.
02:31:22
Speaker
This was somebody selling alcohol at SeaWorld.
02:31:25
Speaker
How was screen who said at SeaWorld, you can double fist.
02:31:29
Speaker
That was hilarious.
02:31:32
Speaker
So if you can't tell it's a party, that's yes.
02:31:35
Speaker
Like the people selling the alcohol are saying that.
02:31:39
Speaker
We were dying laughing.
02:31:41
Speaker
I don't know if you guys saw this, but when we were walking on Saturday, the second time we went, when we were walking through torture fair, I was still like holding my chowder.
02:31:48
Speaker
And one of the scare actors was like up in my face, like looking at it, like looking interested, but he had like a mask on and I was like, do you want my shrimp?
02:31:56
Speaker
And he like laughed.
02:31:56
Speaker
Like you could see that I like made him laugh.
02:31:58
Speaker
And that, that was fun that he like interacted with me.
02:32:06
Speaker
Anything else on that one?
02:32:12
Speaker
Ethan asked what Buzzbars member would be the best scare
Future HHN Themes & Nostalgic Horror IPs
02:32:16
Speaker
I'm prepared for this one.
02:32:18
Speaker
I think it would be really freaking hilarious if it was a double scare with Bethany and Meg.
02:32:28
Speaker
Just the sheer energy behind that.
02:32:34
Speaker
That'd be a good one.
02:32:37
Speaker
I was going to say we can have Javi at the corner in every room with just a tray of liquor.
02:32:44
Speaker
Not even a scare actor.
02:32:46
Speaker
That's terrifying.
02:32:51
Speaker
I was going to say Gary.
02:32:54
Speaker
I feel like he could sing some super creepy song or something to really set the mood.
02:33:04
Speaker
No, Javi's a great one.
02:33:05
Speaker
Oh my god, that'd be incredible of him.
02:33:08
Speaker
Just like his stature too.
02:33:10
Speaker
He's eight feet tall.
02:33:19
Speaker
No, just have it be like a house of horrors and he's just wearing his Aaron Rodgers jersey.
02:33:27
Speaker
That would be scary enough for everyone.
02:33:30
Speaker
I didn't think too far into this, but when I was thinking about this question, I thought of Meg also.
02:33:34
Speaker
One, because she loves spooky stuff, but two, did she ever play the hand game with you?
02:33:40
Speaker
Where you put your, this game, where you put your, I know people get, where you try to like slap the person's hands.
02:33:45
Speaker
She is elite at that game and that is a jump scare.
02:33:51
Speaker
Swift, Swift woman.
02:33:54
Speaker
I would not be the best character.
02:33:59
Speaker
Well, similarly, C. Pred asked if you were a scare actor, what character would you be and what would you look like?
02:34:10
Speaker
Can I just be like one of the dead bodies in somewhere?
02:34:14
Speaker
Murdered by a zombie.
02:34:15
Speaker
I would prefer, I couldn't come up with a specific character because I tend to like the universal original IPs more than the movies as far as houses generally, not this year, but I would prefer to be an actor that used my own face rather than a mask or a costume.
02:34:35
Speaker
I feel like I can emote better with my face.
02:34:37
Speaker
And a lot of that comes from being a dancer and a performer.
02:34:41
Speaker
I feel like if I had to portray something with just like
02:34:44
Speaker
moving my body only, it would be challenging.
02:34:48
Speaker
I think I would be on stilts.
02:34:50
Speaker
That would be fun.
02:34:51
Speaker
I don't think I could do it, but if I could, I would.
02:34:55
Speaker
That would be awesome.
02:34:56
Speaker
Yeah, that would be so fun.
02:34:58
Speaker
I would want to be a slider now that you just said that.
02:35:00
Speaker
That would be so fun.
02:35:01
Speaker
Just like sliding around and sparking everywhere.
02:35:04
Speaker
That's what I was going to say.
02:35:05
Speaker
Bloodlines on the bungee thing.
02:35:09
Speaker
You get home and be so sore, though.
02:35:14
Speaker
Yeah, I was going to say Slider.
02:35:15
Speaker
I think it's cool to have a little bit more freedom of movement in the scare zone and do what you want, make your own scares.
02:35:21
Speaker
You're not confined to a boo box or anything.
02:35:24
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, that was another thing about SeaWorld.
02:35:26
Speaker
Like the actors in the scare zones just roved around so much.
02:35:31
Speaker
Like from one end to the complete other, they would like follow you.
02:35:33
Speaker
They would interact with you.
02:35:34
Speaker
That was, yeah, that seems like a lot of fun.
02:35:36
Speaker
Speaking of SeaWorld, did you see the one where it was like a beach and then one of the actors was just a girl in a swimsuit, like a lifeguard?
02:35:45
Speaker
That was an interesting scare zone.
02:35:46
Speaker
It was like a lifeguard and then you had just like the buff dude that's like on the beach and then you had like a dude that was a shark.
02:35:54
Speaker
That was a super interesting scare zone.
02:36:01
Speaker
I think we already answered Mark's question.
02:36:03
Speaker
Yeah, we already answered.
02:36:04
Speaker
We talked about the drinks and food.
02:36:07
Speaker
Zach V asked why we prefer nightmare fuel.
02:36:10
Speaker
I think that was directed at me because I had said that I preferred this year better.
02:36:14
Speaker
We answered that though.
02:36:16
Speaker
Gary asked what kinds of themes would you like to see HHN use that haven't been done or you haven't seen before?
02:36:25
Speaker
And then similarly, John from New York asked what IP would you want to see used?
02:36:28
Speaker
So I guess like thinking about future houses, are there any IPs or like general themes that you would want to see?
02:36:36
Speaker
So I think the obvious one, and I was a little surprised they didn't do it this year, is Five Nights at Freddy's.
02:36:43
Speaker
I heard it's coming.
02:36:45
Speaker
That would be wildly popular.
02:36:47
Speaker
That would be my prediction for next year.
02:36:49
Speaker
It'd be very popular.
02:36:50
Speaker
The movie was pretty good.
02:36:52
Speaker
The video game obviously blew up.
02:36:55
Speaker
So I think they could have some awesome costumes there.
02:36:58
Speaker
Some great animatronics.
02:37:00
Speaker
So yeah, I think we can probably look forward to that next year in my uneducated opinion.
02:37:07
Speaker
I also heard that there may be like a tie-in to Dark Universe in some aspect.
02:37:13
Speaker
Ooh, that would be cool.
02:37:15
Speaker
Yeah, I think a Wolfman house would be really cool.
02:37:19
Speaker
Or if they could do a house, like that would actually be a great crossover promotion is use like that Monsters Dark Ride and like have that as a house.
02:37:31
Speaker
That would be really cool to be like, hey, look at what we got and
02:37:36
Speaker
then they could just do the come see it at Epic Universe.
02:37:40
Speaker
Ride the maze or something crap like that they could probably hit you with.
02:37:46
Speaker
I think that would be cool.
02:37:48
Speaker
I expect to see Megan.
02:37:50
Speaker
They've had the dancing Megan.
02:37:52
Speaker
They had it in the scare zone this year.
02:37:55
Speaker
It's clearly coming, especially with the sequel coming next year.
02:37:58
Speaker
It's either going to be next year or the year after.
02:38:03
Speaker
I don't know much about it.
02:38:04
Speaker
I just have a feeling that they'll do it.
02:38:06
Speaker
And it's just kind of that creepy vibe.
02:38:10
Speaker
I will have to say, just because I follow a lot of the Scarecters on social media, we were talking about Hunter, who's a Scarecter that we know in Quiet Place.
02:38:20
Speaker
His girlfriend, JoJo, was one of the Megans in the Blumhouse zone.
02:38:24
Speaker
I didn't see her in person when we walked by.
02:38:26
Speaker
I think it was the opposite...
02:38:29
Speaker
girl but I've seen a lot of her scare acting on like Instagram and stuff and I feel like they could not have cast that better she was she's very petite and looks very well like very similar to to Megan and like did a lot of the same movements so that was really cool that we kind of like I knew her by association down down the line it's cool to see her
02:38:56
Speaker
I'm going to throw out an IP that maybe doesn't come first to mind, but Scooby-Doo.
02:39:03
Speaker
Specifically, like, the movies that they did that were, like, scarier.
02:39:09
Speaker
Like, they had the zombie island one.
02:39:10
Speaker
They had the witch's ghost one.
02:39:12
Speaker
And then, of course, the feature film, like, Scooby-Doo on Spooky Island, which had, like, pretty, like, I love that film.
02:39:18
Speaker
That's got some great vibes to it.
02:39:19
Speaker
And I feel like they could have a lot of fun with that.
02:39:21
Speaker
Because you can tread the line between, like, actually scary and campy with that, too.
02:39:28
Speaker
I would love for them to bring back some like old school IPs from like when we were younger.
02:39:33
Speaker
I know that that probably doesn't like serve them at this point.
02:39:35
Speaker
And I'm not even sure like which are universal IPs or not.
02:39:38
Speaker
But like I love like my first introduction to like true horror movies back a billion years ago was The Ring.
02:39:47
Speaker
I don't know if you guys saw that one, but like that haunted my dreams for years.
02:39:53
Speaker
Children of the Corn.
02:39:54
Speaker
You would not be able to pay me to get into a ring house.
02:39:59
Speaker
Like I would literally just not go.
02:40:01
Speaker
I would not do it.
02:40:03
Speaker
You could not pay me enough money.
02:40:05
Speaker
That was one of my first scary movies was The Ring.
02:40:07
Speaker
I love that movie.
02:40:08
Speaker
Yeah, that would be terrifying.
02:40:11
Speaker
Yeah, no, thank you.
02:40:13
Speaker
I think we answered both those questions pretty well.
02:40:16
Speaker
Zach R. Surprising.
02:40:19
Speaker
Are we doing this one?
02:40:24
Speaker
We'll call it a kiss, marry, kill.
02:40:28
Speaker
Dracula, Mummy, and Frankenstein.
02:40:32
Speaker
Repeat you on this podcast.
02:40:42
Speaker
I would because of the slaughter cinema room with the mummies, I would kiss the mummy.
02:40:53
Speaker
I would marry Dracula and I would kill Frankenstein.
02:40:58
Speaker
That's my final answer.
02:41:01
Speaker
So I was going to say I would probably marry a Dracula because he's typically hot and he's also a night owl and like so am I. So that would work well, I think.
02:41:10
Speaker
And I would probably just kill the mummy and like kiss Frankenstein because I feel like he's misunderstood and he needs a kiss.
02:41:23
Speaker
Was that a human sound?
02:41:31
Speaker
Yeah, I agree with Kelly.
02:41:33
Speaker
I was going to say something different, but since we changed it to Kiss, I'm not going to say it.
02:41:39
Speaker
Yeah, that's all I got.
02:41:41
Speaker
Yeah, I think I'll agree with you guys on that one too.
02:41:49
Speaker
I'll have Zach, if this is dropped before TDR records, ask this question again, and then you'll get the good answers.
02:41:57
Speaker
Why did we make this PG anyway?
02:42:00
Speaker
you know, our livelihoods.
02:42:02
Speaker
Oh, I guess that's important.
Favorite Rides & Bucket List Haunts
02:42:06
Speaker
Fitz asked, what is the best ride experience during HHN?
02:42:09
Speaker
And I cannot answer because I have not seen a ride during our season.
02:42:14
Speaker
We didn't ride anything.
02:42:17
Speaker
All I think they have, I think they have Rip Ride, Rocket, Gringotts, Men in Black.
02:42:22
Speaker
Maybe one other one that I'm forgetting.
02:42:25
Speaker
I think there's one.
02:42:28
Speaker
So the only one of those affected by the nighttime is rocket.
02:42:33
Speaker
You could say mummy to stick with the horror theme, I guess.
02:42:37
Speaker
I mean, Gringotts, you do have like little to no wait during horror nights.
02:42:42
Speaker
So if you want to write it and you're there during the day, you don't feel like waiting over an hour during the day could always go during horror nights.
02:42:50
Speaker
I would probably say rocket because it's just horrifying anyway.
02:42:59
Speaker
The show asks, which house would you re-theme Rip Ride Rocket to?
02:43:06
Speaker
I had an immediate thought on this.
02:43:08
Speaker
So Slaughter Cinema 2.
02:43:11
Speaker
I was going to say the same thing.
02:43:13
Speaker
Every mid-course is like a different theme.
02:43:15
Speaker
It's an entry into another movie.
02:43:18
Speaker
That's exactly what I thought.
02:43:20
Speaker
Each mid-break, it changes a song.
02:43:24
Speaker
That would be so fun.
02:43:29
Speaker
City is something like that.
02:43:30
Speaker
I would maybe want to ride it.
02:43:32
Speaker
I would probably ride it as well, which would be really unfortunate for my back and the rest of my body.
02:43:41
Speaker
I don't know why what I was writing here.
02:43:43
Speaker
Don had mentioned something about looking forward to next year.
02:43:51
Speaker
Obviously, we'll probably all go.
02:43:55
Speaker
I mean, besides the ones that we talked about.
02:43:57
Speaker
Yeah, I think that's what we talked about.
02:43:59
Speaker
I think Parifier was the other rumor that I heard.
02:44:04
Speaker
I kind of hope they do Smile.
02:44:06
Speaker
Smile's really creepy.
02:44:09
Speaker
That would be a good one.
02:44:10
Speaker
That would be a big people eater, too.
02:44:11
Speaker
That would bring in a lot of people.
02:44:14
Speaker
I haven't seen that yet.
02:44:20
Speaker
Make the scare zones better.
02:44:24
Speaker
Also, I would love if there's, you know, like a cohesive icon next year.
02:44:28
Speaker
That would be great.
02:44:30
Speaker
And I wouldn't be mad to be able to go to HHN when like Jack is in charge at some point.
02:44:34
Speaker
I know he'll probably come back at some point, but.
02:44:36
Speaker
Oh, well, yeah, that makes sense.
02:44:38
Speaker
Normally every five years, yeah, they bring him back.
02:44:42
Speaker
Yeah, that would be sick.
02:44:43
Speaker
I don't even know what Jack is.
02:44:45
Speaker
A lot of people that were critics of the event this year felt that
02:44:51
Speaker
resources are just being shifted to Epic Universe.
02:44:54
Speaker
I don't know how much of that is, is true.
02:44:56
Speaker
I feel like they have a dedicated team.
02:44:58
Speaker
So right now the creative team has been like the same, a lot of the same people for years that were still involved.
02:45:06
Speaker
And I didn't feel like budget wise, like the houses were looked cheaper.
02:45:11
Speaker
I didn't feel like it.
02:45:12
Speaker
What was interesting to me is I heard the, the creative designer between behind Goblin's Feast was,
02:45:19
Speaker
is the same person that did Blood Moon and Dead Man's Pier, which seems like completely not what I would have expected.
02:45:30
Speaker
Like maybe Blood Moon and Dead Man's, but Goblins was such a different vibe.
02:45:33
Speaker
So I thought that was interesting.
02:45:36
Speaker
They didn't all have really good set design.
02:45:37
Speaker
So maybe that's kind of like his thing.
02:45:41
Speaker
I'm looking at something that says another IP that might come next year.
02:45:47
Speaker
is 28 days later, 28 years later, that zombie movie.
02:45:52
Speaker
It has a sequel coming out.
02:45:56
Speaker
And going back to what you had mentioned, I think, Mike, you had mentioned Wolfman.
02:46:00
Speaker
I know there's a new Wolfman movie coming out.
02:46:03
Speaker
That could be fun.
02:46:03
Speaker
So I can see that.
02:46:07
Speaker
I wonder if they will take something from Slaughter Cinema right away or if they'll kind of put that in their back pocket.
02:46:17
Speaker
I definitely know that it's like a goal to see which room, you know, just a springboard that could, could be a whole house.
02:46:26
Speaker
So I guess we'll see, but that's always a possibility too.
02:46:32
Speaker
Um, and then Keith asked, what is your bucket list haunt event?
02:46:38
Speaker
I feel like for me it was HHN.
02:46:39
Speaker
So now I'm like, what's the next bucket list item?
02:46:44
Speaker
Although I'll throw something out that's like, I think on Keith's list as well, which is the haunt that Siebert mentioned when he was on the podcast that apparently they like put you in a bus and like drive you around and stuff.
02:46:56
Speaker
That sounds wild and different.
02:47:01
Speaker
I have to hit the knot at some point.
02:47:04
Speaker
I've heard good things about, I think they call it Fright Fest at Wallaby Holland.
02:47:08
Speaker
I don't know if you guys have heard about this.
02:47:09
Speaker
I think we talked about it a little bit, but they have these upcharge experiences.
02:47:15
Speaker
Mike, I'm sure you would love these.
02:47:16
Speaker
So one of them, long story short, they strap you to like a gurney, like a stretcher, and strap your arms down and everything so you can't move.
02:47:27
Speaker
And then they are allowed to touch you because you have to sign a waiver beforehand.
02:47:31
Speaker
So they're like operating on you, and then you die, and then they bring you back.
02:47:37
Speaker
um yeah it just sounds insane and you can't move at all while all these people are touching you and messing with you so that sounds like three of those upgrade experiences and each one is like a different type of thing yeah yeah there's one it's like a butcher or something i want to say the third one is like a pitch black type thing maybe like where you have to go in and like find your way out yeah yeah
02:48:06
Speaker
And all of those are, you know, like very small group like type things.
02:48:09
Speaker
And that could be kind of crazy.
02:48:13
Speaker
But I've heard that.
02:48:13
Speaker
Yeah, that's one of the best haunt experiences in Europe.
02:48:18
Speaker
And it gets slammed to that part.
02:48:21
Speaker
I saw a video of it last year and I was like, oh, this looks like HHN basically on a busy night.
02:48:29
Speaker
Those are all the Discord questions.
02:48:32
Speaker
The only question, we answer pretty much everything else on Instagram.
02:48:36
Speaker
Jike, or BLEO asks, what's the scariest roller coaster?
02:48:41
Speaker
The air or in general?
02:48:43
Speaker
I think it's just in general.
02:48:45
Speaker
13 you do need to sign a waiver for.
02:48:54
Speaker
The terror coaster or whatever it was called.
02:49:00
Speaker
Viking at energy landing because it's just terrifying.
02:49:04
Speaker
Yeah, that's fair.
02:49:06
Speaker
I think the drop on Skyrush is still a little scary.
02:49:10
Speaker
Yeah, that scares the crap out of me.
02:49:14
Speaker
I struggle to keep my hands up on it, so yeah.
02:49:19
Speaker
You know what I think is going to be actually terrifying is Falcon's flight.
02:49:28
Speaker
We shall see about that.
02:49:30
Speaker
I mean, it might also feel very tame because like the drop is like very close to the ground, like close to the ground, but also like that air hill will be pretty cool.
Closing Thoughts & Reflections
02:49:40
Speaker
Again, I don't think it'll be that great, but I think just looking at it sheer size is going to be like, what the heck?
02:49:47
Speaker
I think one of the only coasters that I was scared to ride for the first time in the past couple of years is the coaster formerly known as P and I 305 because I just can't handle my positives.
02:49:56
Speaker
And I was like afraid I was going to pass out.
02:49:58
Speaker
I was nervous for that one too.
02:50:00
Speaker
Just based on the stories, you know, people blacking out and all that.
02:50:08
Speaker
I can't really think of any like spooky roller coasters that are like scary in that way.
02:50:11
Speaker
You know, I mean for Bolton, I guess if you don't know about the drop track, like that is a moment.
02:50:19
Speaker
Well, listen, how many years has it been now?
02:50:22
Speaker
We made it this far.
02:50:23
Speaker
Oh, we got to have somebody dropping it.
02:50:25
Speaker
What emoji do we want?
02:50:27
Speaker
Oh, it can't be like the ghost.
02:50:29
Speaker
Like that would be too obvious.
02:50:32
Speaker
That's a good question.
02:50:35
Speaker
Is there a red door emoji?
02:50:39
Speaker
It's got to be the gay gasp.
02:50:40
Speaker
What emoji is that?
02:50:42
Speaker
Which emoji is that?
02:50:43
Speaker
Look up a gif of a gay gasp.
02:50:48
Speaker
Use your own interpretation.
02:50:50
Speaker
I don't know if we got a picture of my shirt this year.
02:50:52
Speaker
That was very popular.
02:50:56
Speaker
It's the second year in a row I've worn it.
02:50:58
Speaker
Every time like four middle-aged women are like, I'm like, thanks, Judy.
02:51:05
Speaker
That's your audience, right?
02:51:06
Speaker
That's who you are.
02:51:15
Speaker
We did it on one of the spookiest night we could ever do at election night.
02:51:23
Speaker
It's a good distraction.
02:51:26
Speaker
What a solid distraction for the past three hours.
02:51:28
Speaker
It truly has been.
02:51:29
Speaker
I have no idea what's going on and I love it.
02:51:30
Speaker
Now I'm going to go upstairs with the bowl of the remainder of the Halloween candy.
02:51:35
Speaker
Not like any of us have been looking at our phones tonight.
02:51:43
Speaker
Just you sending things in Discord, sir.
02:51:49
Speaker
I guess for the people, let us know if this was interesting, fun.
02:51:53
Speaker
If you would like more of it during next year's spooky season, let us know.
02:52:01
Speaker
It just becomes a recurring spinoff.
02:52:04
Speaker
I think this is a seasonal spinoff.
02:52:14
Speaker
I'm recording another episode in like 48 hours, so that'll be fun.
02:52:20
Speaker
Peace be with all of you and all of you all's... When is this going to drop?
02:52:28
Speaker
I was going to say peace be to everybody's mental health.
02:52:43
Speaker
Into the further you go.
02:52:46
Speaker
What's the... He's got your baby.
