00:01:20
Speaker
That's it. I'm in the back game. Everybody's sleeping. Got to lay it down, though. Got to lay it down. Got to get it done. How was your week? It's been good. Been good.
00:01:31
Speaker
Been a lot of God's juice down, so I've been busy doing that and getting wrapped up. No dust in North Dakota. No, dust free. Did you guys recover from the tornadoes?
00:01:43
Speaker
ah Yeah, yeah. Well, the towns, I've been through area quite a bit the last couple weeks here, and they got hit pretty bad. Every grain band's either pushed over or in the field. Yeah, it's bad.
00:01:55
Speaker
I saw that. Ben Dixon, the roving reporter, is posting nothing but videos of all the damage every day. or Yeah, yep. He's loving it. Actually, we've got Storm Chasers coming back. guess This is going to be on Monday, but...
00:02:11
Speaker
ah They're coming back to Fargo on July 4th. There's another storms coming here, tornadoes stuff, they're saying. Like actual storm chasers, not to be confused with storm chasing with the snow jobs.
00:02:23
Speaker
Yeah, well, unless we get snow on and we'll take care of that. but It's actually re-timbering all those guys, yeah, those tornado guys. So, yeah, they're apparently sounds like heading this way again this week. They've been back and forth here the last three weeks. that We've had a run of it, so.
00:02:40
Speaker
Do you guys normally get tornadoes up there? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, yeah, we always have. Yeah. I mean, it's not like Kansas, but it's, yeah, we seem like we always have a few.
00:02:54
Speaker
All right. Cool. Cool. How about you? know What's going on up in New York? Not much, brother. Not much. Just ah headed up north for the holiday for a couple days and going to head back down and go to work and then head back up and do the whole yo-yo thing back and forth for a couple days. And then, yeah, and head

00:04:12
Speaker
So we wanted to be thorough for you guys and get a few guys who actually attended seminars to get their thoughts on those and how they went, as well as, uh, how their week went overall. So we always usually do two review shows. We usually try and get a good sample audience to give everybody enough information that they can, uh,

So Huge thanks for john to John and Luke Linehan for being patient with us, and we're super happy that we finally were able to get that episode out to you guys. and That's an interesting dynamic, dude. I could not do that. like
00:06:13
Speaker
I would not be able to run a business with my father. We're just too different. Yeah, I'm not. It would not work. like that lot and yeah we We get into that a little bit, but but I know I couldn't do it. So God bless John. God bless Luke.
00:06:31
Speaker
John wants to stay where they are. wants to grow. It's pretty funny. Yep. See who wins that battle. So what else do we got here, brother? We got Storm Day.

So thank you guys very much for that. And keep on hitting that like subscribe button and also help us out by getting some more merch and getting it out of Jeremy's office. All right. He's getting tired of it there. So.
00:08:34
Speaker
you know All items purchased are actually touched by Jeremy himself. you know hell for you know If you leave it in the notes section of the order, he will model it for you. He will actually put the garment on and put it straight in the bag and right to you.

Speaker
All right, we're back. We are back. We got to bring in the boys now. Welcome, Brent, Jeremy, and Patty. How are we? How's everybody doing? Good, good. You?
00:10:22
Speaker
Very well. Very well. Jeremy, happy Canada Day. We are recording this on Canada Day, so happy, happy.
00:10:33
Speaker
How's it going up there? It's Fireworks City right now. Yeah. yeah Idiots on my road letting off fireworks. We get it twice because i' live in Quebec-sico. So last week was a very big national holiday, so they were all letting off fireworks last week too.
00:10:48
Speaker
Nice. All right. Oh, man. and Do I have to worry when I go up there? like I got kind of with the golden horseshoe with Graham. He was telling me like everything that ain't nailed down getting stolen up there. do I got to worry about my car and shit in Toronto?
00:11:04
Speaker
You do. There we go. My brothers ah brother's boss lives in Toronto. He came to Ottawa, brand new CRV, had it like two days, walked out, gone from the hotel.
00:11:18
Speaker
No shit. All right. So rent the car and get all the insurance. Yeah. Yeah, because even when they see it on, like, your Apple tag tells you that it's at the port in Montreal, they just say, um nothing we can do.
00:11:29
Speaker
so Oh, my God. i heard that. Yeah, that's what Graham said. They ain't doing shit about don't do nothing about it. Oh, Jesus. That's funny.
00:11:40
Speaker
I mean, it's not funny. That sucks. There's got you brutal up there. That is tough. I love that, though. You do. You do. You do have to worry about it. All right. I'm renting a car. That clinches it.
00:11:52
Speaker
So how how's everybody doing? Everybody back from Syma a couple weeks back? Everybody have a good trip? Yeah, it was good. thought it was good. Very good.
00:12:04
Speaker
Glad we got Patty working tonight. That did not cooperate. The internet was just that cave that he's living in was just not cooperating the last episode. Sorry, Pat. We had to boot you.
00:12:14
Speaker
It's all good. we got out We got Uncle Rick out of bed. Come on. He was already in bed. That dude doesn't sleep. He looked like he was sleeping. Didn't he, Jerry?
00:12:27
Speaker
He looked like we woke him he said he wasn't. He said they just had done playing cards or something, think, or something. don't know. He looked like we woke him up. He's always ready to go. What? You want me in five minutes? No problem.
00:12:40
Speaker
but um I'm in. So where do we want to start, Jeremy? Because like I said, I didn't go to Sima. So where would you like to start with these guys? Well, we kind of want to talk about the week. But some of these guys went to some classes. So I don't know. start with the Let's go through with Brent. What did you guys
Feedback on Syma Seminars
00:13:00
Speaker
what do you think of the classes? What classes did you go to? Were they worthwhile? Or would you go again? or What did you go to and how were they?
00:13:07
Speaker
ah Like opening keynote seat speaker, he was good. um You know, that never really has anything to do with snow, but gets a point across of something.
00:13:20
Speaker
um So that was like a Tony Robbins type of self-help guy? Yes. Who was it again? i heard it was I heard it was good. heard it was really good. He he was good. He was very good.
00:13:33
Speaker
um He got his point across. Do you guys like, I mean, does that work for you guys or you're going to a snow show? Would you rather hear from a, like a motivational snow guy? Like, like let's hear from a guy that's in snow or are you good with that?
00:13:49
Speaker
I mean, i do some laughs to be honest. Like, yeah, go ahead, Jeremy. You convinced a random woman in Canada, let him deliver a baby. Yeah. Really? Yeah. Okay.
00:14:00
Speaker
It started off on, like, who the hell is this guy? And then, like, 20 minutes in, I was like, this guy really cool. He got on the red carpet at Cannes. Like, just random stuff. He has a list of 100 things he's got to do.
00:14:11
Speaker
All right, good. One at a time. So, yeah, it was pretty cool start. All right, cool. So that worked.
00:14:19
Speaker
So what else? Keynote after keynote. You guys know who it was? Zeb Terry. Yes. It's called sebslist.com or sebslist.com. I forget what country he's from.
00:14:35
Speaker
Australia. Australia. All right. Down under. Sounds like he's been everywhere. Yeah. He's delivering babies in Canada. that Yeah, he gets around.
00:14:47
Speaker
The funny thing was he had one chick that was going to let deliver the baby. Then she backed out. Then he went on like this Canada AM, which is like the news, like goes across the country.
00:15:01
Speaker
And the guy was like cutting them up, like telling him he's an idiot. Who's going to let you do it? And then he had like 10 people message him that day and he got to deliver a baby. like So was this just like a bucket list thing for him?
00:15:13
Speaker
Yeah, he's got a hundred things on this bucket list and he's just cutting off one at a time. That would, as somebody that's had to do that before, that would not be on my bucket list. Yeah. I've had to do it two or three times, and I would never want to do it again every time. Hell no.
00:15:32
Speaker
He just wanted to make sure the baby didn't get stolen. okay That's true. He's running security. Oh, man.
00:15:42
Speaker
So after the keynote, Brent, what else did you ah attend as far as seminars or discussions? Next one I went to was equipment management. It was a panel of four guys.
00:15:54
Speaker
um It was good, but you couldn't hear the guys. Okay. Yeah, I mean, you you could barely understand them. So then everyone's in the back just talking and bullshitting for 45 minutes.
00:16:10
Speaker
So that was an audio issue? Must have been an audio issue. I mean, the guys talk quiet. They probably don't want to be up there. But. Were they on, were they passing around a mic or they had like lapel mics?
00:16:26
Speaker
No, they had two mics that they passed around. that's the first problem. Okay. Yep. All right. Good. de so i mean like I actually got to speak to Martin this week, and he says they do take notes on what they hear on the show for the reviews. So that's there's a good one.
00:16:43
Speaker
Get the audio straight. Audio quality. Were there guys from were they like were the guys from the industry? or who who were Yes. Yeah, they were all all from the industry. Sean, Greg, Ed.
00:16:59
Speaker
and forget the fourth guy's name. What was the gist of it? Do you remember the discussion? I mean, like people were asking questions about, like, should should you own motors, rent loaders?
00:17:12
Speaker
Gotcha. Okay. Just how do you manage and run your equipment? Gotcha. Okay. So kind of like what Lucas Straight did on the webinar a couple weeks ago.
00:17:24
Speaker
Yeah. Okay. Very cool. Very cool. um What else? Did you go through anything else? That was about it for Wednesday.
00:17:37
Speaker
Thursday started my day off with Josh Breck's class, and that was the best class of the week. Okay. What did he do? i don't yeah I don't even know what he did this year.
00:17:49
Speaker
So I think a lot of people were confused and didn't want to go to his class because it said something about social media. Like they all thought he was going to teach about social media, but he actually, uh, it, it was more about like, why do we do social media to show people like what we do and why we go home to our families at the end of the day.
00:18:14
Speaker
Um, I mean, that was an hour and I bet he could have went two hours and you could, you know, the room was quiet. He was clear. He got his point across.
00:18:25
Speaker
um You know, he knew nothing of snow five years ago and started filming snow and makes awesome freaking videos. Cool.
00:18:35
Speaker
And how was his audio? His audio was good. i mean I bet you Josh did it himself, knowing Josh. I bet you he did. He ain't going to have any audio problems, I guarantee it.
00:18:48
Speaker
No. i in they They started the first minute, had audio problems, and right away Josh went and fixed it with someone.
Criticism and Suggestions for Syma
00:18:58
Speaker
He wasn't going to keep going with audio problems.
00:19:01
Speaker
No, that's what he does. oh Good. Cool. So that was worth that was worth sitting in on That was probably my favorite. Okay, great. Very cool. um And then a class after that was like a 45, the 20-minute sessions before the trade show opened.
00:19:20
Speaker
um The one I went to was how do you keep your team busy on a low snow season? um yeah i'm sure You should have good practice in that.
00:19:31
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. Two too low snow seasons. Shots fired. That class was hard for someone that, like, usually gets snow.
00:19:44
Speaker
It was more for, i don't know, southern people that get five inches. Okay. You know, he talked about, like, how to keep your guys busy if you're going to pre-treat or – and was It wasn't for someone that actually gets snow, that class.
00:20:03
Speaker
And they crammed that into 20 minutes? Because that seems like that could so can take a lot longer than that. You know, Josh Breck's class went from 9 to 10. And then trade show opened at, what, 10.45? So between 10 and 10.45, they did, like, two 20-minute classes.
00:20:23
Speaker
Well, I went in one class and out of it again because, like, the – Some of those 20-minute classes, they're trying to push so much that you don't even understand what they said when they're done.
00:20:35
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, shit, you could take 10 minutes just doing introductions. Correct. Like, giving your background. So what are you really getting out of 20 minutes? i Why not just make it a 140-minute session then? If you you know if you have 40 minutes, do it that way. that Yeah, 20 minutes to me doesn't seem like it's going to work.
00:20:53
Speaker
I mean, yeah, the 20-minute classes are dumb. There we go. dale So moved.
00:21:02
Speaker
Don't do a 20-minute class. So moved. All right, cool. Did you attend anything else or that was it? That was it for classes. All right.
00:21:14
Speaker
Jeremy, what about you, buddy? What did you go to? Well, like Brent, I started off with the keynote guy. I thought that was pretty cool. Then the next one, I went to a seminar called Effective Meetings. Okay.
00:21:30
Speaker
um The guy was a little dull, but his message was okay. He just wasn't a very good speaker. He's very monotone. They could probably have a better speaker, but the message was good.
00:21:43
Speaker
um Then after that, I actually got invited to host a snack and chat. Okay. Yeah. You have lunch and because we just got into liquids last year. So that's what was about getting into liquids.
00:21:56
Speaker
um That was pretty good. They had a guy from Simon, Jeff Heller there with me, kind of helping me do it. um I think they should do more of that. And so these little 20 minute things have more people sitting around together doing those. yep Everyone kind of got something out of it. You know, it was eight people from all different places and we all talked.
00:22:14
Speaker
And then after lunch, I went into this operations one. So they had three people on the panel. um Some of them like pretty, in-depth people been in the industry like 30 years.
00:22:26
Speaker
um It was a lot like last year's one, though. was the same people. I took that one Pittsburgh. It was definitely good, especially if you'd never seen it before. Then after that, I didn't really do too many more classes. I kind of hung out at the Storm booth doing their mini sessions once that opened the next day.
00:22:45
Speaker
Cool. how was the ah How was the audio for all the ones you attended, Jeremy? add The one audio... They were passing mics, so that wasn't great. yeah But it's because there was three people that had two mics and they were passing them out to audience to ask questions too.
00:23:01
Speaker
Maybe if they just had stationary mics for the audience to ask questions and the guys had the mics on their lapel, it'd probably work a lot better. yep um but The messages were good.
00:23:12
Speaker
They just need some tweaking, I think. like That one was three hours long. was two sessions back to back. Some of the other guys, like Steve Smythe was in there, saw him too. And it maybe it was too long.
00:23:24
Speaker
um I don't know. My boss went to one. it was three hours, two, and he said it was just too long and the mic was crap. He couldn't hear nothing. That's like the kiss of death. If it's an hour and a half or some long lecture and the audio is bad to like right off the bat, that's just that's a waste of an hour and a half of your time.
00:23:54
Speaker
as What did you think of Storm's presentations they were doing? Were they helpful in any way did you like them? or Yeah, i liked them. like it was It was little sessions and I'm kind of biased. like They paid for me to go Simon last year so I'm kind of close with those guys. but um yeah i It was good and they had all the TV shows running too. They had quite a gathering around their booth.
00:24:14
Speaker
But I found like maybe I haven't been to many last year my first one. But I'd say there was like maybe half as many people at the convention as last year. I don't think it was very busy to be honest. Even at nighttime, it wasn't super busy out on the streets or anything.
00:24:31
Speaker
We keep hearing that, but Simon Simon says the the opposite. They said it was very, very well attended. Uh, but we keep everybody that we've talked to says it was half as busy as Pittsburgh, but they, they said it's a bigger Grand Rapids is a bigger space. So maybe it made it seem like it was, uh, more spread out.
00:24:50
Speaker
I don't know, but I wasn't there, but, uh, yeah, we, we've heard that. We've definitely heard that they felt, uh, it felt half full. Um, But would you say the um the overall the seminars and stuff, the talks that you guys went to this year, would you say it was predominantly snow guys, where it was less people from outside the industry like they've tried in years past? It was more snow guys this year?
00:25:14
Speaker
It was more people you see in our industry. Like I went to the same one Brent went to, the Josh Brecht one. I knew probably 90% of the people in there, and it was by far the best one out of like the entire.
00:25:26
Speaker
They need to have more people like him. doing more seminars because same thing. My boss was like, oh we don't really need to learn much about social media, but it wasn't about social media.
00:25:38
Speaker
It was about building your brand and your team and utilizing social media to get that out to your team. Right? Sure. I think we all, all can use to bring our teams tighter together. Absolutely.
00:25:49
Speaker
So I think if they focused on people like that, who this is their specialty, they could really get their message out a lot better. Hmm. That's good.
00:25:59
Speaker
No, that's good feedback. I'm sure they so they'll take that. Yeah, I heard a lot of good things about... ahead, Jack. I think we're on a one-check. Yeah, I think so. I heard a lot of good things about Josh Breck's...
00:26:14
Speaker
Everybody that I talked to really liked his presentation and it went really well. So they got something out it. Josh is good at what he does. Yeah. Josh is good at what he does. So that's, that's great. I mean, it sounds like that was the big hit then. That was the one that was, that was the gold, the blue ribbon winner of all the seminars there.
00:26:35
Speaker
I mean, for me, you wouldn't think social media would be the best class, but I mean, I would have thought equipment would have been my thing, but social media, it I mean, like I said, it wasn't completely about social media. It was just why we do what we do.
00:26:55
Speaker
Well, the equipment one you said was bad audio, right? And it was short. Yes. That was our class. That's the double whammy right there. Like, I mean, the equipment one, just at Storks when they did the same type of thing, that was an hour and a half and we didn't get, we didn't even scratch the surface.
00:27:13
Speaker
and like I mean, that the buy, lease, sell or buy, lease, rent, that whole discussion, forget it. That that could be hours. Like we could have 40 guys sitting there around a campfire for two days discussing that because everybody's going to have a different corporate structure, different financial position.
00:27:29
Speaker
So, I mean, everybody's going to bring up their own experiences and talk about that. So and then not having good audio. That's just that's just you got to you got to fix that. That's been there anyway, Steve.
00:27:42
Speaker
What's that? Been there, haven't we Bad audio. Oh, yeah. Yeah, we've we've worked through a couple times. But, yeah, I mean, that's oh that's good feedback, though, for them. they you know it's ah I'm glad that they they stuck to more snow guys, even if they didn't work out.
00:28:00
Speaker
you know, 100% for different reasons. I'm glad they stuck to that formula that they went back to in Pittsburgh last year because, you know, what we heard from from Hartford was all the seminars they brought in a lot of people from outside the industry in that one, and it just didn't hit home with snow
Collaboration in the Canadian Snow Industry
00:28:16
Speaker
guys. They just they want to hear from snow guys and snow topics.
00:28:20
Speaker
You know, they're not they're not really the the Tony Robbins types. So but that's good that they're sticking to that. um What else? What else ah after that? So you said the Storm mini things were good. Brent, did you go to that, the Storm ones?
00:28:37
Speaker
I did. i went to the the equipment or vendor one where they had Snow Wolf there. And um that one was good. you know ah I don't know. What was it, 30 minutes long? But it was good and got the point across.
00:28:54
Speaker
Good. Yeah, that's pretty cool. I like that, that there you know they're just being collaborative and stuff and getting different manufacturers involved. and You know, it's, ah you know, you're your competitors, but you're not, you know, it's, you I like that.
00:29:10
Speaker
I think it's good. glad I wish I wish I would have made it there and listen to those. But there's always next year. And hopefully they do something like that. It's storm day. I heard they got they don't they're not saying who they got, but they're they saying the lineup of speakers for storm day is is great.
00:29:28
Speaker
Like Jeremy Lindstrom didn't even make the panel. We didn't even make it onto the onto the list. That's some heavy hitters at that point. no I guess. I guess. No Jeremy, no Smythe. Probably Mitchell. Probably Mitchell.
00:29:44
Speaker
ah fuck yeah I had to throw it in there. Oh, shit. sort of So So let's hear about the rest of your guys' weeks. Jeremy, what what else what else did you like, not like about about your week? What was your experiences like?
00:30:04
Speaker
Before you – Go ahead, Matty. You want to jump in there? So would you guys say was – I mean, the tickets, not the cheapest for that, but that doesn't really matter. But would you guys say it was worth your time to go to all those sessions? Would you do it again? Yeah, I'd probably do it again. Just because, honestly, north of the border, we don't really have anything like that.
00:30:29
Speaker
We've got a small show coming up in Toronto that we're trying to build, but it's like even like going down to Storks was – way different than anything that we get up here. Okay. Nobody talks about it for some reason. I don't know why.
00:30:42
Speaker
Yeah, Canada is not collaborative on snow. No, it's getting better. But it's not like when I go down there and everyone just talks about everything, right? Like, Yeah, absolutely. It's definitely, ah I mean, well, you know what? I don't think it was always that way. it's ah I mean, it's it seems to be a lot of momentum recently in the last you know four or five years that it's become more collaborative in the U.S. But...
00:31:06
Speaker
um Yeah, I don't think it was always that way. I remember when I first started out, you know, you didn't you didn't get anybody around you to tell you anything about how they did what they did. Like you had you had to learn it basically the hard way.
00:31:20
Speaker
But now it's yeah yeah, it's a different way for most people. Jeremy, since you since you were on the topic and you brought it up, spend a couple of minutes. Tell ah tell everybody what you wanted to get out about the the the landscape Ontario show.
00:31:34
Speaker
Yeah, so Landscape Ontario has a snow show called Sniposium. It's going to be July 22nd and 23rd in Toronto, which everyone knows it is not the capital of Canada, but I think most Americans think it is.
00:31:48
Speaker
um So it's just two days. One will be like higher level, like manager, owner. There'll be a bunch of speakers. VIP event, Blue Jays versus Yankees. And then the next day is just trade show.
00:32:02
Speaker
um So some of the guys who are at Siamo will be there. Like was talking to Jeff from Arctic. He's coming up. I think they're actually sponsoring part of the VIP night, which is kind of cool. um It's nowhere near as big as Siamo. Like I think we have 700 people pre-registered right now.
00:32:18
Speaker
But should be a good time. We just started last year was the first year we didn't have it. at Landscape Ontario head office. So it needs to be able to host like maybe 200 people.
00:32:29
Speaker
We're just trying to get here. It's basically the biggest one in Canada is that, if that sounds like there's only 700 people. but
00:32:38
Speaker
And you went last year? Yeah, i went last year and then this year I'm on the board that plans it. So but we'll see how it goes. there We started with like six and now we're down to four people that plan it.
00:32:51
Speaker
Hopefully we can keep it going. i think like there's a few guys from the States coming like Billy Moore said he's probably going to drive up. So that'd be kind of cool to see those guys. It's not far for him. Oh, yeah. Nice.
00:33:04
Speaker
Very cool. All right. Well, hopefully guys attend that and hopefully Canada gets their shit in gear and gets more collaborative on snow. Why is it such a big secret up there, Jeremy?
00:33:14
Speaker
Like everything's like fucking cloak and dagger and shit when it comes to snow up there. I don't know because the funny thing is right like you guys knew Joey who passed away yeah just like last year four companies go to bid on this mall we all know exactly how much the mall is going for because the people at the table all work at the same company that used to have it well go outside and no one would talk right yeah you're gonna bid this uh you know it's not a very good contract we used to do it together dumb ass obviously I know what it's worth You know, and then it went for a hundred grand less than what it used to go for.
00:33:49
Speaker
Oh, geez. I don't know. It's getting better. Like a lot of us talk now, but even like three years ago, you wouldn't even wave at each other when you saw each other out there, which is really stupid because you're not actually competing against each other. There's enough work. Like we live in a government town.
00:34:06
Speaker
There's tons of work. Yeah, I was going to say, isn't there plenty of work up there for everybody here in Canada, for Christ's sake? Yeah, like we get 100 inches of snow. That's our cap, 100 inches. Like, it's not like we're dying for snow. We're actually sometimes we're like going to stop snowing for while.
00:34:23
Speaker
yeah <unk>s Yeah. We keep hearing that, though. but Yeah, it's it's like a big secret. There's probably going to be a hit out on you if you're on a podcast, Jeremy. Just so you know. We'll get this relocation program.
00:34:38
Speaker
there's america we do pretty good down here that's right they'll move you to like fargo nobody will ever find you there nobody will find you here ah half of our hockey team come from fargo they all played at north dakota university half of the team in ottawa there's like five guys playing in north dakota on the team there you go you and d Oh, man. i house is ah What's that?
00:35:10
Speaker
I've said the Fighting Hawks. as well They used to be called the Fighting Sioux, they had to change their name. I can't call them that anymore. That's a no-no. else happened there?
00:35:21
Speaker
What else? but oh my god stupid ah What else about?
00:35:30
Speaker
what else yeah what else were can talk about What else you guys want to talk about? Nightlife. Nightlife. How was the show? Well, how was the show first? We'll get into nightlife. How was the actual, what did you
Standout Products at Syma
00:35:42
Speaker
guys see? Anything stand out as far as boots and stuff, products?
00:35:47
Speaker
ah Show-wise, it looks smaller than Pittsburgh. um Heard that, too. A couple cool things. We have Boss Plows, so their new cold front plug.
00:36:02
Speaker
You don't got the 22 pins anymore. um That was pretty cool. Simple, new lights, headgear. um The Case 421 looks sweet.
00:36:15
Speaker
ah The other thing, the muskox, no one's really, I mean, it's really not a snow thing, but the torsion attachment or your bucket and everything can go side to side.
00:36:31
Speaker
That's pretty cool. Those were about my three tops at the show for stuff I wanted to see or look at. Yeah, that muskox thing, was that's from the mind of Uncle Rick's long-lost brother, Ron.
00:36:47
Speaker
they're long The two geniuses. The shit they come up with is incredible. Yeah, that that thing is sick. We actually had it to demo it um when it was an R&D. It just makes makes life so easy.
00:37:01
Speaker
It really does. It's a great little thing. it's ah It's pretty cool. um The 421, does it have two armrests? Did we cover that?
00:37:13
Speaker
I don't think it does. No. Oh, man. Armrest, unrest. We covered it last show. No, no, no. It doesn't. Oh, my gosh. That's horrible. and some more And that's pretty cool. So, Boss redid their wiring?
00:37:28
Speaker
that's That's what I'm getting at? Because that's... Sounds like... That's always been Jeremy's number one complaint, right? You you always say the wiring is fucking horrible on them.
00:37:39
Speaker
Garbage. Garbage. Yeah, I mean, there's no more 13 pin or whatever it was, and... sounds like wiring on the truck is easier um yeah plugging in is simple now it only lost yeah it yeah good just took a little while yeah yeah it's been that way for what 25 years yeah it's been a while it's been a while night i believe the new controller will connect to your salters and everything too and run, run the salters. if Yeah. yeah
00:38:14
Speaker
I like pretty cool. i like really cool. Like what? Like the joystick for the plow? Yeah. Their version of shit. Yeah. That's interesting. Yup. And they said run salter.
00:38:28
Speaker
um ext v plow one controller i'll do it all so they're multiplexing basically good that's awesome about time snow industries always last that multiplex has been around in so many different industries and it's about time Oh, that's great, though. Good to hear from boss that they that they finally fixed that. Because that is like, not just Jeremy, I don't do boss, but I know a couple guys that do, and they always complain that they're always having to mess with the electric, the the wiring and stuff.
00:39:02
Speaker
So good for boss. What about you, Jeremy? Any products or anything stood out to you? Yeah, we we hear you guys talk about those winter edges all the time, but we'd never seen them, right?
00:39:14
Speaker
So we spent probably an hour, an hour and a half with that guy at his booth talking to it He was very nice, honest. He's like, honestly, they'll last twice as long, but with the tariffs and the exchange right now, it's not worth your time buying them.
00:39:28
Speaker
Wait and see what happens. that He was already lying to you because there's no fucking way they only last twice as long. they're They're way up there. they're they're They're like four or five times as long easily. Okay, well, then maybe it's worth revisiting. But yeah, he said with the tariffs and everything right now, they'd be astronomical to get them up here.
00:39:45
Speaker
um and We'd seen the Razorback because the guys from Peterborough, um like Storm Solutions. um yeah They had one that they brought up to show us, but then we spent a lot of time with Jeff, and he was really showing it to us that day because we're looking at getting some of those.
00:40:01
Speaker
um And then not the 421, but the 321, Steve was showing us the one at his booth because same thing, like um Arctic has that deal through the guys with Peterborough. We're supposed to get five of those. We wanted to check it out while we were down there.
00:40:14
Speaker
Because never saw them here. um And then did anyone see that Yarbo thing, like straight out of Timu? ye yeah we Yeah. Is that the robot the robot thing?
00:40:25
Speaker
Yeah. It's kind of cool. Like, I'd like one from my own house. I don't know how good it would look out in the real world, right? Yeah, I've seen them. I haven't actually seen anybody use them in real life or anybody. I don't know anybody that's demoed one or anything. so But yeah, they are they are pretty cute.
00:40:43
Speaker
Yeah. My son will like those. That'll put him out of his driveway shoveling business if those go mainstream. but We spent some time, too, with... It's very confusing. like You have Arctic in Chicago, but then there's an Arctic in like Canada. Did you guys see that? Yeah, they make truck plows. We spent a little time there because Buddy had offered me a plow for free last year, we're like, we're good, thanks.
00:41:07
Speaker
but we We took a look at them. they They look okay for the price point. It's like half the price. so Yep. What you pay for, it but it's half the price. I've heard they're they're on par with like a buyer's type. That's kind of the the realm that they're in there.
00:41:22
Speaker
But I haven't heard anything negative about the the Canadian Artics.
00:41:29
Speaker
the The winter, to go back to the winter, who do you know who you spoke to, Jeremy, at the booth? Because I know it wasn't Ron. Not Ron. Not Ron. Not Ron. Winter better take some notes. would hook you up.
00:41:40
Speaker
That's right. Winter better take some notes. Ron goes to all shows. Ron is winter. like You can whatever you want with him to learn the ropes, but Ron is Mr. Winter. He knows all the ins and outs.
00:41:53
Speaker
He knows everything about those products. And he would have he would have been the first one to tell you, like, honestly, you'll get four to five times a life. Like, we put a set on the beginning of last season. i don't even think we're I don't even think we have Honestly, like not yet.
00:42:09
Speaker
on And we got it on the 9-6 MVP 3 behind the 5500, and I don't think we have anywhere on it yet. So I was extremely impressed where that would have been a stock set of edges.
00:42:22
Speaker
we we We go through a stock set of edges on a winter like we just had. We would have been through one set of edges probably in that winter, or at least damn close that we'd have to replace them before the next season comes.
00:42:35
Speaker
But those winters, will they'll they'll get you. Like, you'll have a heart attack when you look at the price. But once you put them on and you you start using them, you they will they're worth every penny.
00:42:46
Speaker
They are absolutely worth every penny. But Ron wasn't there to tell you that. so i mean that And, you know, hey, I'm coming to Toronto. So, you know, they're not going to check my bags coming over the border.
00:42:57
Speaker
I got nothing to declare. How many how many sets you need?
Equipment Challenges and Innovations
00:43:01
Speaker
I'll be a heavy bag. be a heavy bag. Here, Riley, put these in your hockey bag, buddy.
00:43:10
Speaker
Oh, man. um What else? What else? but other any other Any other products there, Jeremy? i i I was stuck on the winter thing. What did you say after winter?
00:43:21
Speaker
um Western came out their new... What's that, sorry? Go ahead, Kirkham. Yeah, we checked out the Yarbo, and then we spent some time with Jordan over at the Boss booth.
00:43:35
Speaker
Looking at some of their stuff. Because we're trying to decide what we want to buy for new sidewalk machines. we're done with John Deere after your last winter. Done? Yeah. The heavy-duty green paint didn't hold up?
00:43:48
Speaker
No. It broke. A lot.
00:43:55
Speaker
Jeremy, who said that for the first time? Like the only difference between the attachments, ah if they're painted green, they charge you $2,000 more for the green paint and call it heavy duty.
00:44:06
Speaker
Is that you or me? Yeah. It's a true story. never forget that. It's a true story. Same attachment. No, Putz went down to was the North Carolina wherever, John Deere tour.
00:44:19
Speaker
And they're they were, when he was buying a bunch of stuff, and they were asking the, he's like, how come guys don't make a heavy industrial broom or whatever? And they're like, oh, we do.
00:44:29
Speaker
like, you do? Yeah, it's the green one. He's like, yeah, only only thing different is but paint. there's Nothing different. All the parts are the same, gearbox, everything's the same. It's just fucking different paint.
00:44:41
Speaker
He was telling me that story. I couldn't believe him. Yeah. Heavy duty green paint. That'll be $2,000 more, dollars please. Yeah. care boxes what ah what's what What's the width of your sidewalks up there, Jeremy? Like you guys have like new new sidewalks. They're 48 to 65, whatever they are, inches.
00:45:00
Speaker
Most of them, yeah. Or centimeters. Do you guys do centimeters up there? No, we do inches. so All right, cool. No. Yeah, especially most of the sites we take care of, like because it's a lot of government stuff, so they're they wide sidewalks.
00:45:14
Speaker
Some of them are cobblestone, which kind of sucks, but besides that, it's pretty good. We were running like a lot of John Deere for the last few years, but then last winter, just seen, especially on my site, like every time we went to go out,
00:45:29
Speaker
we're either boosting them or the plow broke or the joystick broke like four times like was just a pain in the ass be honest what's your temps like up there are you guys like below zero like uh jeremy and in fargo are you guys it's like below like yeah below zero from like november to april you get the odds you want enclosed you want cab machines Yeah, like we were on a few Snow Raiders. The guys complain about them because it's cold.
00:46:01
Speaker
But we can't afford to put everyone in a sidewalk machine. We'd lose our shirt. I don't know. Those guys up in, where where were those guys that had the whole army of SR mags there, Jeremy, up at the airport? That was airport. yeah Calgary? Yeah.
00:46:18
Speaker
Calgary, yes. Calgary, right? They were Calgary. Yeah, those those guys are warriors, man. They're on those things all day, all night, below zero. the They're good at what they do. did you look at the um Did you look at the the case art the little mini case articulating loaders that they had?
00:46:38
Speaker
Yeah, Trevor, my boss, checked those out. um but We've kind of gotten into bed with Bobcat lately. We're buying a lot stuff off Bobcat. So we'll probably end up with something Bobcat.
00:46:52
Speaker
Those things are good. Just get a lot of replacement glass doors and hinges. We hear they break a lot. Yeah, I think we went through like...
00:47:04
Speaker
four doors last year on one site and like six on another site. It seemed like someone was breaking a door. Were they stolen or they broke? No. On one site, the freaking salt truck pulls up.
00:47:18
Speaker
The guy comes to see him in a sidewalk machine with the door open, hits the ladder on the side of the truck, smashes the door after we just fixed it like a week before. ah Those John Deere doors aren't cheap, right?
00:47:29
Speaker
No. No, nothing John Deere is cheap. No. Oh man. Any other products between the three? Patty, you, you, uh, you see anything you liked?
00:47:41
Speaker
Yeah. I get to check out that better tractor. I think you guys talked about that. That white bi-directional one that everybody keeps talking about I saw that on a video today. Yeah. I've been, I've been following those just on YouTube, whatever for a while now. Um, I think the tough part is still the closest dealers, either California or Canada from, from what I gathered. But, uh,
00:48:04
Speaker
it's a pretty small tractor for being 175 horsepower. I was, I was impressed with that, but the, uh, I don't know what the price point on it is, but the bi-directional could definitely suit us pretty well. We picked up our first tractor and snowblower two years ago for a property. Um, and we put an inverted blower on the back of it using, well get about two miles of roadway that we windrow to the side and then end up blowing it to the woods. And we we picked an inverted blower so that you didn't have to back up for two miles.
00:48:38
Speaker
And we've just pretty quickly realized that an inverted blower is not made for blowing wind, road, snow. It's just not very effective. So a better tractor would be pretty pretty good design for what we're looking to do with it.
00:48:58
Speaker
Cool. Other than that, I think you guys touched on it too once again. But that Fisher came out with that um rate control for their spreaders. That was pretty impressive. I think it plugs in your OBD port, so does ground speed. That was Western, wasn't it?
00:49:13
Speaker
I thought was Western. It's Douglas. Oh, Fisher, yeah, yeah. Yeah, sorry. It was not the Fisher. Yeah. Yeah, that's why I was just looking up. i was going to say that. That was cool. So Douglas came out with that. And from what I can remember, i mean, we're basically all – all liquids now, but it'd be pretty good for us or other guys who are still running granular. I think it was like $700, too, and it upfits to any controller from 2016. Yeah, I'm going to check it out for mine, definitely, because I love the Tornadoes. And if I can get that that, that's kind of a game changer. I mean, we kind of know what we use, but it's it's a lot better to to have it there in a digital readout, that's for sure.
00:49:56
Speaker
Yeah, or you give it to your new operator, right? You have guys who are used to spreading salt, and you know what they put down. Maybe you start your new operator out with it.
00:50:06
Speaker
Definitely cool. It was really cool. and was It was a game changer for them, honestly. Especially for the price point. You can't buy you can't buy anything for $700 in the snow and ice industry. No, I think that's actually a really that's a really smart marketing job by Western.
00:50:22
Speaker
I mean, you you're offering something that everybody wants, everybody's talking about, and up until now has cost a lot of money to get. So you're able to, you know, to to if it works. I mean, that's the thing. Like, have has anybody seen it in the field yet?
00:50:38
Speaker
great idea i mean what would yeah what are accusal to run these days we looked into them maybe four or five years ago and i want to say it was almost like two grand i did too yeah i think you're right yeah i i haven't touched base with them in a while but yeah i they were it was pretty pricey back in the day where i'm like you know what i i'd love it's a nice to have it's not an you know it's not a half to have for me right So and just the fact that they made something that you can basically retrofit eight, nine years back instead of just saying, hey, we have this, but it's only good for new new new equipment that you just bought.
00:51:14
Speaker
Yeah. Yep. No, i listen, i I have no complaints about the Western stuff. I've I've always used them, always love them. They've always done right by me. um And like I said, we still have we have got 10 year old tornadoes that are still just fine.
00:51:31
Speaker
No problems. So we just replaced Gene Stork actually this year. We had to replace a module. That was the first one on one unit that we've had to do in 10 years.
00:51:42
Speaker
So you give me anything in snow that's 10 years pretty much problem free. That's a fucking win by any manufacturer. So absolutely. Western for me has been bulletproof. So i can't say enough good things about them. And I hope this for that money, 700 bucks, money well spent. I hope it works.
00:52:12
Speaker
Heard that. Yep. Heard that. All right, we're back. We had a little technical difficulty there for a second. but So we wrapped up the conversation about the new Douglas Dynamics salt monitoring system for $700 and something, dollars which is awesome at that price as long as it works. I guess we'll see this season.
00:52:33
Speaker
um That being said, why don't we we'll hit some commercials here and we'll come back and we'll keep going with the boys. Gentlemen, let me tell you about the best kept secret in the snow game. Top Gun Backblades.

00:53:53
Speaker
Everybody agrees on that? Yeah, and the the bob is the Bob's awesome. That was a cool place and spot. You could ask Pat about his night about his night, how he almost missed the airplane. Yeah.
00:54:08
Speaker
There's Ohio boys. Yeah, Patty, what? I heard they had to, like, beat down the door, get the fire department to break the door down to get you. There's Ohio boys know how to have a good time.
00:54:21
Speaker
Oh, man. Yeah, almost the flight.
00:54:26
Speaker
Jeremy's not waiting, dude. I had to do a welfare check on him for him to go in his room, and he locked his door with a deadbolt. We couldn't even get in there to wake him up. i'm like, well, we're leaving. I said, I'll try one more time, and he answered.
00:54:40
Speaker
if Sean says he goes to these events to sleep, all right? Just trying to take a picture. Yeah, but you know what? Interestingly enough, though, Sean wakes up when we wake him up. Like, Sean is always on the verge of being late, but, you know, no matter how bad it gets, Sean always gets up.
00:54:57
Speaker
but I answered Jeremy's last phone call, like, what's up, buddy? And then I looked at my phone. i was like, oh. You didn't set an alarm? I think I probably just didn't hear it.
00:55:10
Speaker
Oh, my Oh. So the you know the Arctic party was good. The Bob was good. um Anything else stick out in your minds about the week there, guys, that you want to talk about quick?
00:55:23
Speaker
ah Tuesday night, Syma had their party at Mini Putt-Putt, I think. Oh, yeah, Mini Golf? Yeah. That venue was a little small.
00:55:36
Speaker
it was It was packed, but it was good. Good. Now, I can't remember when it actually Simon's party or was it metal? I think it was Simon's party hosted by metal plus.
00:55:49
Speaker
Okay. ye They weren't, they weren't handing out free hydraulic oil though.
00:55:59
Speaker
No fitting. you mess over but um i Get message from Bob Green again now. Oh, you're trouble. and We only pounded Meta Plus, but we don't have hydraulic leaks on them. We just keep blowing.
00:56:12
Speaker
No? You don't? What, Jeremy? You don't have hydraulic leaks? No, we don't, surprisingly. We blow the odd cylinder because someone's an idiot, but we don't have just like random leaks, but we blow paddles because people don't know how to use them properly.
00:56:27
Speaker
I haven't had any leaks on mine. I mean, I've said that. had Two seasons, i had I didn't have any leaks. I think it's – no, I can't talk bad about them. We had a bad batch. They came out. They fixed them. And now two years, haven't had a drop.
00:56:45
Speaker
It's still fun to break their balls about it because they get so rough. I haven't had problem but Two years of no snow. That's true. It's a hard time.
00:56:56
Speaker
But I mean, we've been running them since 2014. I think we've placed like three hoses and that just because they're starting to wear.
00:57:07
Speaker
I think it's different too. Like in my area, like I'm old, but people that are like younger than me, that's all they've ever ran. Right. HLA and stuff back in the day. But anyone who's like under 30 in my area, that's probably all they've ever ran.
00:57:22
Speaker
and They probably don't even know anything else exists. Most of them.
00:57:27
Speaker
Yeah, that's a good point. And they're made up there, so they're easy to grab, right? Yeah, they're made like four hours away from our area. Some people take a joke, some people can't. My driveway is just a small mom and pop guy, and he's got one on his tractor.
00:57:39
Speaker
You just see them everywhere. Yeah, it's just, like I said, it's it's just fun to take shots because they get so butthurt. It's like, come on. we're just You know we're just kidding. We give them props. and else It's a tool in the toolbox.
00:57:54
Speaker
we didn't like you, we wouldn't pick on you. Exactly. Worry about if we're not talking to you. That's when you worry. Did anyone else go um to DJ's on the Tuesday?
00:58:06
Speaker
No. It was pretty cool. no like Clearly, they knew a bunch of people were coming, so they like had everything spick and span. But they showed us around, and seems like a good outfit. I don't know.
00:58:19
Speaker
Yeah, I've heard it's a very nice operation they got. Yeah, run three eight hour shifts. That's the first time I've ever heard of that. Like, I can't get enough people to run two shifts, let alone three eight hour shifts.
00:58:31
Speaker
that's what the That's what New York State DOT does here in the winter. They go to 3-8. So their staffs, I think somehow it cuts down on the overtime of already having guys in for that shift for salting and stuff.
00:58:46
Speaker
But, yeah, that's what they do in the winter here. i think it's November to April. So they go to ah go to three shifts. but i it's interesting I've never heard of ah and never heard of a private company doing it, though. well Me neither. We'll do we'll do that.
00:59:01
Speaker
I wish. We'll just get that scheduled right now. I'll run it up on the schedule. We'll have guys coming in. No big deal. totally sure and That third shift will be no one.
00:59:12
Speaker
yeah oh Get them in the first shift. They ain't fucking leaving. You get them here at the first shift, they ain't fucking leave with those. Except for it's the same person, all three shifts.
00:59:24
Speaker
Yeah, exactly. Exactly. It's the same 20 guys. We just call different names. We just call them different names. Oh, my God. That's funny. That's funny.
00:59:36
Speaker
ah Anything else, boys? Well, yeah, he said Tuesday. i know the previous episode he touched on it, but I was pretty impressed checking out ah Uncle Rick's place, Snow Power there.
00:59:47
Speaker
Oh, yeah, the lair. Yeah, that was
Event Scheduling and Improvements
00:59:50
Speaker
that was cool. like I said to Jeremy, you know, i i was expecting to show up to this big industrial warehouse and there's going be robots making everything behind glass and everything. And it is not that it is, ah but it's pretty and cool to see what he's pumping, what he's pumping out about that place.
01:00:08
Speaker
No, Rick's. Yeah. Rick's not like that at all. Rick is more of a, I'm going to send this sketch that's on a napkin to the patent office. that's ah Rick is great, man. His book is used to have all these things like sketched out and stuff that he would tell you.
01:00:25
Speaker
And he didn't put him in a computer right now, Jeremy. He's got him like actually. i don't know about that. I don't know. please I thought he said, I don't know. started foot dimin he did Maybe. I hope so. Yeah. He's, uh, he's incredible. Like the, the amount of shit that comes out of that guy's head that is just like, Oh, well, what do you need? You need something revolutionary in two hours. No problem.
01:00:50
Speaker
Yeah. just I'll just sit here and think about it. God bless him, man. He's always working. Still got to put him around in a room and see what they come up with. 100%. 100%. just lock them in a room for a weekend. There won't be a need for snow guys. There'll be some totally autonomous, right off the bat, no hiccups, done.
01:01:19
Speaker
yeah i i won I wish I would have went there. i mean, we drove 10 hours out from our shop, and we were 45 minutes away, but we didn't stop. ah take just the burgers Just the burgers alone, I hear, are worth the trip.
01:01:38
Speaker
That's what I hear. Jeremy, were they that good? They were. They were? yeah Interesting. yeah yeah Better than the Whitecastle's? Oh, my God. Those are terrible. I can't even think of that.
01:01:54
Speaker
I can smell them just saying that. Gross. Yeah, if you locked Rick and Ron from Muscox in a room for a weekend, they'd probably come up with some satellite that you could actually target the parking lots and melt the snow from space.
01:02:13
Speaker
You don't even need to go. That would be it. Done. na Those guys are in front of my mind. You won't need three shifts then. Nope. Nope. No need for three shifts.
01:02:24
Speaker
One guy with a mouse. That's it. I'm all for it. They do like five to one, right, Jeremy? Isn't that isn't that their shift over there at Snow Power? I think he said. yeah Yeah. Yeah. 5 a.m. to one. I think they run every day. Yeah.
01:02:38
Speaker
yeah That's awesome. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. That's a, it's some outfit over there. They come up with some interesting stuff. That's for sure. Oh, what else boys? Anything else before we wrap it?
01:02:52
Speaker
Yeah. i mean, Tuesday night was mini pot. It was fun. Talked to a lot of people. Um, full house. Wednesday was Arctic. Uh,
01:03:06
Speaker
Thursday was at Simon's party. Closing party was at a brewery. That was kind of a cool layout again. um And then, yeah, i I got out. We got out of there Friday morning.
01:03:21
Speaker
We hit the road at 5 a.m. I'm not not wasting a half a day for ah closing note speaker and see the trade show again.
01:03:32
Speaker
i feel sorry for those boys. Amen. any Any thoughts for Sima on what they can improve on for next year, what you'd like to see? I mean, you guys have been hitting it. I think they've got to start it Monday or Tuesday, and, like, everything is done on Thursday.
01:03:49
Speaker
Amen. Like you said, Friday is a travel day. I mean, you guys talked about that for two years, I think. Yeah, yeah. we've ah ah We've mentioned it once or twice. Yeah. That and don't start the trade show at 1145 in the morning.
01:04:03
Speaker
We had a good time with all the boys hanging out at the hotel, right? But, I mean, if you go there by yourself or just not a big group. It's money thing. what What are you doing? It's a money it's a money thing. they They want to get make sure they get as many people to the seminars as possible because they're making more money on that than getting you on the trade show floor.
01:04:23
Speaker
And then um having it Friday at 9 a.m. after two nights of of networking, let's call it, you know, I'm doing bunny ears here, you know, two nights of networking, you know, having that be the early day. yeah Like, what, are you kidding me?
01:04:38
Speaker
ah yeah That just makes no sense. So don't do the Friday, dude. If you want to do 1145 to 5, do that, but do it Wednesday and Thursday. Yes. on I mean, maybe it'd be a little weird. I don't know.
01:04:52
Speaker
can you How much is just a trade show pass? $35. Oh, $35. And if you want to do everything, I think it was $500. five hundred books Like, split it up. If you just want to do night the night stuff and the trade show, that's a group.
01:05:09
Speaker
If you want to do the classes and everything. I mean, the full trade show passes are like 875. 8-something, I think. 8-something. But if you if they were giving you two two full trade show days, because let's face it, everything comes down to dollars and cents.
01:05:23
Speaker
They can say it doesn't, but it does. So if they're giving you two full days and they're saying, hey, Wednesday and Thursday, you're going 11 to 5. two full days, you could, I'd be fine with you charging me $75 $85, $90 even. i would pay that 50 bucks a day, you know, somewhere in that realm to go to that if it's two full days.
01:05:46
Speaker
But like we've talked about this over and over that you're forced to choose between getting through what you want to get through and being polite. Because if guys come up and they want to have a conversation, hey, I haven't seen you since last, Simon, or you know I haven't met you yet and i've I've really been looking forward to it, you you basically got to shut that guy the fuck down and walk away and be a dick if you have plans that you you know you have certain boots you got to get to.
01:06:14
Speaker
so And that sucks because it's all about meeting guys. It's all about the networking. Nobody's actually going there for the trade show. or Very few guys are actually going there making decisions for their next year on what they're buying by what they see in the boots. you know Guys know what they're buying.
01:06:30
Speaker
They know what they're going to get. it's just you know That's just my feeling anyway. I think it's all about the networking. And when you're shortchanging people, you're taking away from the experience.
01:06:42
Speaker
Yeah, like I know Wednesday they had the Saima early after dark thing. it was like 6.30 for an hour and a half. Yeah, they're trying to keep people away from the Arctic party.
01:06:54
Speaker
It was either go there or go to the Canadian meetup. And we have ah like a group of us who drove far, so we met up and drank some beers before we went there. Saima had a Canadian meetup too?
01:07:05
Speaker
Yeah, they have one every year. Yeah, it was about half as many people at Canadian meetup as last year. They're segregating us? Americans and Canadians? we We get our own special special area, you know.
01:07:17
Speaker
They're trying to reach special party. Would Americans be allowed to go to the Canadian meetup? Only if you're invited by a Canadian. disagree with that. You've got to know someone. That's not together, you know. That's kind of racist. Yeah, that's segregating.
01:07:33
Speaker
ah I'm against that in any form.
01:07:38
Speaker
A speaker from LoJack. Yeah. Oh, man. But, yeah, I think that – what about you, Jeremy? anything you Anything you think they need to improve on or or could do better or anything you really you really liked?
01:07:56
Speaker
um I like the networking. That's the big reason why we go, to be honest. We already know what equipment we're buying. I'm sure it was cool to see some other equipment, but.
01:08:07
Speaker
It's different for us, right? Like some of the stuff we want to buy, it's going to cost a fortune to get it across the border. So right away we have to eliminate that off of our plan this year anyway. Hopefully changes.
01:08:18
Speaker
um But I think if they – the speakers were better this year than Pittsburgh, and I heard the one before was even worse. um These are the first two I went to. I've been fortunate.
01:08:31
Speaker
I've never paid to go. It's always been free. um so So that helps. It was worth the 11 hour drive and and just like hanging out with people, right? Like like Steve Smythe and those guys, I text him a lot, but he lives like 17 hours away. It's not like I'm hanging out with the guy every day or something, right? so But that's where I go personally. right The seminars are what they are. I learned a little bit, bring it back to our team, um but it's the networking.
01:08:58
Speaker
And that's what I found about the smaller ones. you get to network a lot more. It's a little more intimate, right? Like that's what it's all about. hundred percent. said yep Yeah. Networking is crazy. I mean, i I've, I've went three, four years now and you, you see someone that you've seen last year and you start talking to them like you never left. And I mean, there's a couple of guys that I talked to all year because I met them there.
01:09:25
Speaker
Yeah, I agree with with Jeremy's point, though. it's It's a lot easier to do quality networking at the smaller events. you're not yeah You're not trying to hustle away and you know you know't you're not using a buffer. yeah know I'm not throwing Patty Salmon in front of the guy that I've been trying to get away from for five minutes because I got to get to a different booth.
01:09:47
Speaker
the The smaller events, are they're more geared for networking. Like the S&S one. Patty, were you at the S&S one last year?
01:09:57
Speaker
No. No. That literally was, hi my name is Tony. This is my place. um Introduce these guys that are you know sponsors, and boys have at it.
01:10:09
Speaker
It was like nine hours of sitting around just different groups of guys talking shop and talking about everything, and it was the best day. Right, Jeremy? It was. It was really good.
01:10:21
Speaker
It was great. yeah buts That's
Insurance Issues and Engagement Strategies
01:10:23
Speaker
what I've heard. ah Unfortunately, I've been at S&S before. Unfortunately, we got big municipal trade show that we're vendors at yeah last year and this year. So I won't be able to go again this year. But everything I heard about S&S last year is just awesome.
01:10:38
Speaker
Yeah. No, it was great. Get a good bartender, a good caterer, and let the boys do what they do. Yep. That's it. And it was great. lot of stuff. Like, we beat up that poor insurance guy for probably an hour and a half, two hours. And I'm sure that guy was regretting that he came because we were giving them both barrels about what's wrong with the insurance companies. But you know he was but it was awesome.
01:11:02
Speaker
Yeah. right. Cool. Yeah, I think Siamat really benefit from, like, instead of having as many talks, maybe having just, like, little peer groups. You know, you get together. Maybe there's some beers. Yeah.
01:11:15
Speaker
have a couple drinks, talk to the guys for like an hour, an hour and a half. Like maybe some people want to go to an operations group. Some people want to go to a liquids group, things like that. Right. and The one thing you think they do really well is that foundation.
01:11:27
Speaker
Like I talked to a lot of people, like even Asher, he would have never got to go if it wasn't for the foundation, like they paid for him to go. Right. So things like that, I think they're doing really well, but I think that of as many speakers have just little peer groups that can get together. Right. Like,
01:11:42
Speaker
You're going to be with like-minded people who want to learn about a certain subject, and you don't have some guy up there for an hour and a half just talking what he wants talk about. With bad audio. Yeah, exactly.
Show Wrap-up and Acknowledgments
01:11:56
Speaker
right. Anything else, boys?
01:12:00
Speaker
No. All right. Sounds good. Jeremy, you got anything else, buddy? No, i not really. That was a good show, like we always said last time. But, yeah, I think my audio is not that great tonight. so so No, you your audio is good. You're on a little, like, one-second delay, but it's all good. Not even noticeable.
01:12:19
Speaker
We'll clean it up. All right. Well, boys, thank you. Jeremy Kirkham, congratulations on your promotion. Thanks. And it was good finally getting you on Thank you for all your support of the show.
01:12:31
Speaker
ah You and Brent are huge ah huge proponents of what we're doing, and we really appreciate you guys. So thank you very much, and it was good having you guys on. Well, appreciate what you guys do for us, especially with the TV show. My kids finally know why I disappear for three days at a time.
01:12:45
Speaker
There you go. There you go. And Patty's dial-up held up tonight. So congratulations, Pat. You're you're back in the fold. We said if the dial-up went, you were getting banned. were getting a ban.
01:12:56
Speaker
We figured it out. It wasn't even the internet. It was the microphone. No, dude, you were pixelated as hell last week or two weeks ago. whenever we were doing Yeah. Yeah, you had some. I changed computers, and we're good.
01:13:09
Speaker
good There you go. put Put the sticker on that computer, and that's the one you use then. I want to thank Jeremy, too, for bringing me that onesie. You guys know Mitch from from Storm and Peterborough. actually at the hospital right now. there Oh, really?
01:13:24
Speaker
Yeah, they should be having the kid any time now. He got induced today. Jeremy brought me onesie, and I sent over to him. so Yeah, we beat customs another time with the onesies, right? Didn't we do that for Graham too, Jeremy, at Storks? Didn't you bring onesies for Graham Utter from Golden Horseshoe? Yeah, somebody, yeah.
01:13:43
Speaker
yeah Yeah, I think it was Graham. ah like Can I not pay $200 for shipping two onesies? Just bring it with you. That's great, man.
01:13:54
Speaker
That's awesome to hear. All right, boys. Well, then we'll wrap it there. So that'll do it for episode 127 of the Snowjaws podcast main show. Again, thanks to the boys for coming on. We really appreciate it. And that was a great talk. And, you know, Simon can and take some notes going forward for next year. And hopefully they get the audio figured out on the seminars.
01:14:16
Speaker
It sounds like there were some potentially good ones that got ruined because of bad audio. So, yeah. Guys, ah yeah if you haven't already done so, get your get your proposals and your bids. Get them in because it's coming fast. If you haven't already done it, get on it.
01:14:32
Speaker
All right, everybody else, be safe. Have a great week. Keep pushing.
