Introduction and Greetings
00:00:00
Speaker
You know that thing you love that your friends and family don't want to hear about anymore? Tell it to us, Patty and Charlotte. We want to learn all about your weird and wild obsessions or your perfectly normal hobbies that you've taken just a little too far. We want to dabble in your curious interests. Can we interest you in today's episode?
00:00:33
Speaker
Oh, hi. Hi, Patty. Hey, Charlotte. How are you? Pretty good. How are you? Good. How was your week since I last spoke to you?
Charlotte's Nuggets Game Experience
00:00:43
Speaker
It was good. I went to a Nuggets game. Yes. That's right. On Wednesday. Okay. How was it? It was really fun. At first, they didn't want to let me in because my bag was too big. It was just like a big purse.
00:01:00
Speaker
So then we tried to stuff all of the things that were in the bag into my pockets and Adam's pocket and then I tried to stuff the bag into a pocket and go in another door and then they were like, excuse me, do you have a purse in your pocket?
00:01:17
Speaker
different Let's think about that though. What is the difference between a purse and a pocket? If you're not using it as a purse, is it a purse? ah You know, that's the question. But they they felt bad because we took the train, so we couldn't put it anywhere. And then they just let us in. And then I got paranoid about it, so I went and bought a shirt so that I could have a plastic bag that they would get me and put all my stuff in.
00:01:43
Speaker
Oh, so a plastic bag is okay. You can put your purse. Yeah, if you go purchase things. But then I got to buy a shirt, so that was fun. And then, but the game itself was also fun.
Humorous Sports Team Names
00:01:55
Speaker
I was going to say, what snacks did you buy? But yes, no, the game. So who were the Nuggets playing against? um They were playing, I always get this confused, the Sacramento Kings. ah There's a lot of teams with names like King, Fox, you know, like something that sounds important to me.
00:02:12
Speaker
ah exactly i could think That's a good point. I wonder if it's like, is King short for anything? Are bucks short for anything? Like I know the bucks are like the animal, like the Milwaukee bucks, but are bucks, is the animal, is that their full name?
00:02:30
Speaker
Yeah, I think so. But it seems like a nickname. So that's the same with the Kings, you know, I keep on wanting to say like the Latin Kings, but like, that's not correct.
Game Highlights and Binoculars
00:02:39
Speaker
that's it I wonder if they have a special night like, oh, okay, hey, Latin Kings, if you're a member, and you can show your correct, like, um tattoos, or however you prove you're a member, you get in for half price tonight.
00:02:55
Speaker
special day Oh, that's awesome. So did you have fun at the game itself? Yeah, it was really fun. um and The Nuggets were down like 15 at one point, but then they were they won, they came back to win. And I brought my binoculars because I couldn't I was trying new contacts. And so I So I might have been like the only person there would like been knocking. You were like prepared for with your opera glasses. I would love to have opera glasses. What if somebody thought that was just like a passive aggressive way of telling your boyfriend like you got us nosebleed seats. I better bring my binoculars.
00:03:45
Speaker
but I mean, the seats were not bad, but ah but yeah, no, it could be. It'd be like, listen, I want the $1,000 seats up front and I don't want anything.
00:03:56
Speaker
I want to feel their sweat on me. I want to be wearing a poncho. I want
Patty's Bulls Game Memory
00:04:00
Speaker
one of them to accidentally run into me. Oh, yes. It happens sometimes. That's wild. You know, it reminds me like, I think I was in third grade when I got glasses. And one of the first things that happened after I got home is we watched a Bulls game that night. And I was like, oh my God, you can actually see their faces. Like, I had always thought it was all just kind of like blur, you know, like, oh, yeah, blurry people. But it was like, I could see John Paxton's face. He, like, he has details to his face on the television. That's wild. sounds real person oh my godsh he's a frame Yeah. So wait, are the new um contacts part of also are these new glasses that you're wearing? Yeah, these are new glasses. These I like.
00:04:47
Speaker
Okay, good. Thank you. Because when I first put them on, i so I thought they made me look like if Harry Potter and John Lennon had a baby. But I think my hair was more parted in the middle.
00:04:59
Speaker
Okay, kind of, but that would be adorable. But also they're not perfectly circle, right? They're like, they're like angular. <unk> So I think that that makes them cool automatically. yeah Absolutely. Yes. I like them a lot. Thank you. They fit your face well too, which you know, that's the key. Good. Yes. They're very, they're overly reflective. I don't think they're supposed to do that. but
00:05:26
Speaker
So now whenever you take photos, it'll be like people can see what's on the other side, like, you know, like what's happening in front of you. Yeah. And then you'll be able to know, like in a Zoom meeting, if I'm, you know, and and googling, she's not paying attention to me. Well, that's so appropriate that you went to a game and, you know, here we are talking about basketball.
00:05:54
Speaker
Yeah. How was your week? Did you? Well, you had lots going on. I did. I did.
Patty's Chicago Adventure
00:06:00
Speaker
I went to Chicago um and I, that was really fun. I took the train there, good old mantra, you know, trying to be a little bit um nicer to our environment. And it was so fun. I took, I left on Thursday. So I worked the first part of the day at home, dropped off Bosco, my pup at the place where he was going to be.
00:06:21
Speaker
um watched for the for the weekend and then took a lift to the Amtrak station and then I worked to the rest of the day on the Amtrak which is so fun like I felt like a real business lady you know I was like oh typing and yeah I really like taking the Amtrak it's like about the same amount of time like the five hours that it would take me to drive but I'm not I don't have to like pay attention. I'm napping and reading and working and you know I can get up and walk to the snack car, which I did. It was great. And then the weekend I was in town because it was the Chaititerat, which is the Chicago urban shopping race. So it's like a take on
00:07:09
Speaker
The I did a rod, but in Chicago and it's their 19th year doing it. So next year will be the big 20 and it's our team. We've been doing it for 18 of those 19 years in some iteration. Yeah, media and wild. Yes, I know. Um, and so it was really fun and you the weather was gorgeous. It was like in the fifties. It was dry. The sun was out. It was just like, it was.
00:07:36
Speaker
so perfect because you know March in Chicago is like it could be you know but still ice on the ground and snow piles and gross. Yeah yeah so it was really fun and we raised um quote like just under $19,000 and that was third place.
00:07:56
Speaker
which is like so exciting because like when this all started it was like they did a fundraising charity bend to it so that it would be legal you know it was like okay in order for this thing to be possible to do like a shopping cart race all through the city you know and running around like crazy to all these different bars and whatever in costumes like the city will leave us alone if it's a charity, you know? And so that was never a really big thing. But our team, um really two of the people on the team, they they were, you know, like, no, we're gonna we're goingnna focus on fundraising. And so over the years, it's gone from like a couple thousand was the big thing. And now, you know, it's up to like people, we have like rivalries, like friendrick friendly rivalries where we're like,
00:08:43
Speaker
competing with each other and the kindest smash talk and like you know donating to each other or sending our donors to each other. And so the first place team set a record this year of 40,000.
00:08:55
Speaker
Oh my God. I know. It's like it goes to the food. Well, so yeah, we raise money itself or we raise, um we bring food donations and those go to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Each team has to bring 69 pounds of food or more on the day of.
00:09:15
Speaker
And then, um, and then the money goes towards micro grants. So there's like the Chicago, the shited around, um, foundation now that gives funds to micro grants and, uh, the all fighting food insecurity. So it's really cool. That's amazing. So then like, if the top team had like 40,000, then altogether it had to be like a huge amount, like and Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It was right around a hundred thousand. So it was really cool. And it was interesting too, to talk to some of the teams that were like doing this for the first time, because, you know, with anything that you do, you're kind of like, well, at some point we'll all age out of this or, you know, you want to make sure that like new people are doing it. And so I was asking some of the rookie teams, like, how did you even find out about it? And
00:10:03
Speaker
all of them, now it was just a sampling, a very small sampling, but they all said that it was basically just because they saw us running through the neighborhood last year and like asked people like, what are you doing, you know, and then looked it up because I was also like, well, we always tell people, but we're like running and saying like, shai dada ra, you know, and it's like, what? It's not an easy name to remember. So yeah, people like googled what it was and then joined. So how cool is that? Amazing. That's so cool. And then you you like dress up and you got your shopping cart and then you're going to different bars. What do you do with the bars?
00:10:39
Speaker
So it's five different bars and we're all on different routes so that we don't, there are five different routes. So we don't all end up at the same bars at the same time. um And at the bars, they all have a different theme. So then at, you know, you check in, so you get like a token and three of your team members, so there are five of us, three have to go in and check in, and then you get 25 minutes on the clock. And you can, if you want, try to like bribe the judges, because it's Chicago, so bribery is welcome.
00:11:05
Speaker
and like buy them a shot or some food or you know like we bring like little treats or whatever um to get them to take time off and we used to do that in the early days and then we realized like oh no this is the fun like when you're at the bars like you're that's when you're seeing other teams that you can just like chit chat with or like your friends come to visit like Karen came to Irish nobleman so I saw her and her former colleague and um you know and and just get to like have a good time and also rest because yuck, running. um and yeah But all of the bars have a different theme. So they'll have like, oh, you can do karaoke here, or you can you know do different like kind of fun carnival type activities that they come up with. So it's it's
Chaititerat and Creative Costumes
00:11:50
Speaker
a really good time. And our theme this year was,
00:11:53
Speaker
under the sea and our shopping cart was a coral reef made out of foam and it was beautiful and then I was an oyster and my sister made my costume and it was also made out of foam and it's so so pretty it's so pretty like so many people were like did you make that and I was like well I didn't but somebody did um so yeah it was it was really fun it was a good time I saw a picture and i I feel like if I saw it, I'd be like, did you find a giant oyster and then kill it and take it to home? Because it was like amazingly realistic from like to be able to see. And um I mean, same with the coral reef thing too. Like like yeah coral reefs did back in their heyday.
00:12:44
Speaker
And you know what was really weird was that there was another team that was also like sea creatures, like ah angler fish and like another sea anemone. And like, I was like, what are the chances? You know, it's just kind of like things in the zeitgeist. It's not like, oh yeah, that big Marvel movie.
00:13:04
Speaker
that we're all you know from. it's just so It's so strange. Sometimes things like the ocean come back in style. you know like There's a bunch of books about octopuses and like stuff like that. Are you talking about beautiful creatures? Is that the name of it? I think there's one that's like, um e yeah there's like novels and then there's also non-fiction books that I've seen all about octopi.
00:13:32
Speaker
Yeah, because I had just read one. And I was like, how strange. Because Cheyenne, one of our teammates, wanted to be an octopus. And she was going to make her costume. And she could have. She's an architect. She is very crafty, visionary. But I was like, um we all talked to her out of it because she's a mom of a young child. And she has her own architecture firm and like is involved in about a million things. And we were like, yeah, you're not taking on that stress of making it. So instead, but she ended up purchasing a Ursula costume, and it included like its own little fan in it to like blow up the like ah tentacles of her skirt. like And so she was like inflated while moving. It was so cool. Amazing. Yeah. So it was a little funny. It was like some of us were real creatures of the sea, and then some of us were like characters from The Little Mermaid.
00:14:27
Speaker
but Whatever. We're always a little out there in meta with our, with our themes. So it fit right in. Yeah. That sounds amazing. And yeah, from the photo, I saw it looked amazing and like awesome that you raised so much money for like these good causes or this good cause every single year. I didn't know you did like, what, 18 of the 19 years. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, and I don't, I didn't do all of them. I think maybe I came in like,
00:14:59
Speaker
three or four years after the initial team. But it's so cool that they let me do it even like when I lived in Minnesota, I came in for it for a few years and this year, the first year being in
Staying Connected During Relocation
00:15:10
Speaker
um St. Louis and still came back for it. So it's nice that they you know still let people come and be on the team even if we can't be in like every build or you know whatever. so yeah But so then how was the rest of your week? Because you were taking a staycation.
00:15:29
Speaker
Yes. So um me and Adam ended up going to Grand Lake, Colorado, which is um just like a little kind of mountain-y town, but not like a ski town. Apparently it's more like snowmobile town, which we did not do that. But we just ended up hanging out there weirdly, like went to this bar and met a bunch of people from the same place where we live in you know Lakewood. No way. um I guess they they go there regularly. um And we had like a little Airbnb and we brought Janine the dog and she was not happy. Every time I took her for a walk, she would go stand by the car and just
00:16:29
Speaker
It's like we can go home now. Yeah. It's like, is this what we're doing? Cause this is what I would like to do. Oh, poor girl. She doesn't like a change. She doesn't like a change. No, we were saying like, you know, she, she likes couch and, uh, that's our 10 couch. Yes. Yes. With that one couch there, she didn't like couch. She did like bed. Um, but, uh,
00:16:54
Speaker
Yeah, so but other than that, it was very relaxing. um Like speaking of the basketball theme, I did, ah there was at one point we went to this like dive bar and there was a Bulls game playing. um and And Adam called me a basketball monster. He was like, you're becoming a basketball monster. I was like, I don't know what that means, but I take it as a compliment, even though he's a compliment.
00:17:22
Speaker
You have created this monster. Yes, because I was like, yeah to watch even when he like doesn't want to watch anymore because they're losing, I'm like, I want to watch. And then I'm like asking questions and questions and then I'm like, can you like you tell me more about this? And then I was like, it but but what's monstrous about it? is it Is it that then I um act like I know everything, even though I just started learning about it two months ago? I was like, that's just like mansplaining or, you know, like. Right. But yeah, I think that. ah Or does it mean, is it, yeah, did he answer that? Yeah, I think it it was like um the, you know, like wanting to watch like way beyond like, you know, they're, they're losing, they're going to lose or, um you know, asking lots of,
00:18:12
Speaker
questions, but I think i think the the like acting, like i I know what I'm talking about, being kind of aggressive sometimes about it, but I was like, it was fun. Yes, yes, absolutely. Oh, that's funny. How appropriate that you guys go on vacation and caught some basketball, which- Five hours of the last dance also.
Discovery of Sports Podcasts
00:18:39
Speaker
Oh, okay. So one of the homework assignments you gave me was to listen to that um locked on Bulls podcast, which, okay, ah first I have to say, very cool that I like thought it was, you know, oh, because Bulls get locked, they're horns. um No, it's it's actually a chain of podcasts. Like they have locked on, fill in the blank, like locked on bills, locked on bears, locked on, you know, every team name, which I was like, Okay, that's cool. um And one of the first episodes that I listened to was like about Scottie Pippen going on tour, like a hate tour against Michael Jordan with Chorus Grant and Luke Longley. like but I don't understand what the tour involves, just like talking to them about how he hates Michael Jordan.
00:19:31
Speaker
Well, I guess they're like going around touring and a large part of it is like, yeah, Jordan wasn't all that. And I'm like, you guys, that's, that's not gonna, nobody's, nobody's believing that this was, you know, different than what they thought it was. Like, no, we all thought. my yeah perception of real I mean, I know words do change your perception of reality sometimes, but like, come on.
00:20:00
Speaker
Yeah, we all watched, and I'm sorry, Horace Grant and Luke Longley, which like, what have you guys been doing they weren't all that they were they were they played for the bulls during like the dynasty era and stuff like that and yes contributed but they were not like star players I doubt they went on to have great careers anywhere else and the one thing I remember about Luke Longley is he's from some Eastern European country and so his mom had come to watch a game like come to the United States and watch a game and she was so sad because everybody was going
00:20:32
Speaker
Luke. And she thought they were booing him. And he was like, no, they're saying his name. Like, that's like the chant that they would do. But anyways, so I thought that was hilarious. That, yeah, it was like, based on, you know, coming out of the big, the, what is it? The dance?
00:20:51
Speaker
Oh, the Last Dance. The Last Dance. The documentary. The documentary, like that they're kind of just continuing that and like, hey guys, see you're interested. Yeah. And it's funny because like that podcast is like daily so, but there's like plenty of content. I don't understand. That's so much fun.
00:21:11
Speaker
Yes. Well, and, you know, there is a lot of it that is, you know, the stats and so and so and blah, blah, blah. But there are some fun drama pieces in there, too. So I thought that was that was very cool. And it did get me in. And also they are in love with your dude, Demar de Rosen, like.
Basketball Players and Mental Health
00:21:32
Speaker
Today I was listening to the one about last night's game that it was finally the first time since 2015 that the Bulls had a win against the Warriors. Yes, I just listened to that one too.
00:21:47
Speaker
Oh my God. And they're like, and because DeMar DeRosen had the ball with a minute left, we knew, you know, and it was like, he is, he's a star. I've been seeing him like on all of the, cause now I've started getting content about the Bulls on my Reddit, um, as well as but other podcasts that I was trying to listen to. Cause I was like, let me see if I can find some more that are geared towards like the drama.
00:22:11
Speaker
even But everyone's talking about Tamara DeRosa. And as you saw, I sent you that text. I was at my parents' house, and they still get the the Tribune, the Chicago Tribune on Sundays. And so I was using the sports section, the comics section, and the auto section to wrap my nephew's um tricycle, like or no, bicycle with ah training wheels for his birthday. And sure enough, there's a picture of Zach.
00:22:41
Speaker
Demar and ooch. Yes. I was like, those are the dudes. Yeah. Well, Andre Drummond is my other dude who's like the vouch light. No, no, he's like the off the bench. Okay. Drummond. Okay. Yeah. So there's another one where I think like, it sounds like people are booing him when they, um,
00:23:06
Speaker
um But yeah, no, I, um and they were talking about, ah yeah, Demar a lot. I had no idea that just like, to me, the concept of um being so good under pressure, like, because he's like the king of the fourth quarter is what they say. Okay. Yeah, because he just like wins games like under I am like,
00:23:29
Speaker
whatever the opposite of that is, you know, that's like the reason I can't play sports because I mean, also because I'm like five two and I like no sports that need a five two, like too tall for gymnastics, too short for everything else. But but like, I just I don't understand that, you know, like to to have that kind of poise. So I'm very impressed by it.
00:23:55
Speaker
Well, and like you were saying, didn't you mention last time like the, is he the one that's very vocal as well about mental health? Yeah. Yeah. He apparently started some kind of a YouTube channel ah ah where he has some episodes about mental health. I haven't watched that yet, but yeah.
00:24:13
Speaker
um i don't know Sorry, go ahead. Oh, I was just going to say, I don't know like what kinds of mental health concerns he talks about. I think maybe like depression and that kind of thing.
00:24:24
Speaker
Yeah. Cause I was just thinking, I remember they used to have like a bunch of specialty coaches or like I had heard at one point, like different basketball teams would have specialty coaches and actually it might've been something I learned from the bachelorette. Like one of the contestants might've been one of those coaches, but it felt really similar to a therapist who would kind of specialize in focusing on the pressure of the game you know and and maybe not so much like just how to get you to be good at it, but you know it it is interesting that that's something that he you know is able to kind of channel that tension or stress in a good way. Right. like I feel like any kind of anxiety or like insecurities or anything like that would make me just fall apart, but it must be the opposite for him.
00:25:20
Speaker
Yeah. What a winner. What a winner. Um, I do have to mea culpa, uh, or apologize because I was totally wrong. Just talking out of my butt the last time I was like, Oh yeah. And the all-star break that's coming up in then June. I think it took place in mid February. Like it just, yeah, it just happened. Yeah.
00:25:43
Speaker
but You did the thing that I like to do where I just say stuff as if it's you know accurate. Totally. I thought it was real. It wasn't. so um Sorry. Everybody does that. Anybody who's listening, check your facts.
00:26:03
Speaker
but We'll check them and then we'll let you know if we were wrong. Yeah, yeah, I will apologize once I know that I'm wrong. Which is, yeah, it's gonna be a lot, cause I won't usually look things up ah ahead of time. I do that even at work, like I'll send an email and I've been getting better about it, but I'll be like, oh yeah, I think I remember that the meeting is on the 14th. So I'll just put that in the email and then I'll check it after. And I'm like, no Dumbo, like check it before you send it. Like if you know you're gonna check it either way, oh God. So I have been finally getting better about that, so.
00:26:36
Speaker
But if you say I think in front of it, then that's the qualifier. and And they better check themselves. Yeah, she just said thanks. So yeah um I did end up okay, so I was planning last Tuesday, I had put it on my calendar.
00:26:56
Speaker
um Excuse me. um I was planning last Tuesday to go to a bar and watch the Bulls game. And I chickened out. so i Oh, wait, in St. Louis you were going to go? Yeah. Oh. Yeah. um Because it i I checked like what games are on ESPN because I figured every bar has yeah ESPN. You know what I mean? And so, yeah, I chickened out. and But then I saw on, you know like I mentioned, I don't have regular TV anymore, but I saw on Peacock, which is like the NBC kind of thing. They had a live game of the NCAA men's basketball of Wisconsin versus Indiana. So I did watch that game from the comfort of my couch.
00:27:40
Speaker
um And that was really exciting. And it was kind of fun to just get myself, you know, like amped for what's to come. And it wasn't a high stakes game nor a high scoring game, but it was fun. Yeah.
00:27:55
Speaker
And I did look into bracket stuff. So if you're up for it, we can you know do a little, ah whatever you call it. A bracket. A bracket.
00:28:10
Speaker
And then that'll give you a reason to go watch some of those games, maybe at a bar, just to like yeah your neighborhood. just yeah Exactly. Yeah. So like Chris is going to come into town and we'll watch like the whole one day, which I have been like frantically trying to figure out where we'll go and bla blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But then I figured, well, if he's all the way in town, then we can go maybe like to a couple of other bars too. And just like maybe not watch a whole day, but like,
00:28:35
Speaker
let's catch a good game here, game there in some neighborhood bars that are like, yeah, I feel would feel better to just like check them out with somebody for the first time and make sure the vibe is right and whatever. So. you Make a friend with a bartender so next time you can be like, well, hello.
00:28:51
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, exactly. um It's funny, I'm at the library and they're like, it appears no one's using this computer. So it's going to shut down in 30 seconds. And I'm like, dude, I have like three programs open. But so thankfully, I i could resume it without issue. But um Yes. And one other thing. So you had mentioned, oh, actually, okay, two other things.
Caitlin Clark's NCAA Record
00:29:18
Speaker
You had mentioned Caitlin Clark last time we talked. And so since then, you know, it's like, she's everywhere, including they played last night in Minnesota, one of their series final games.
00:29:31
Speaker
And my friend who lives there um is from Iowa. And so she and her parents went to the game and they went to um Cowboy Jacks, which is like this crazy bar ahead of time because they were having like a big old meetup of Hawkeye fans. And um she had made a t-shirt because I guess she heard like um Magic Johnson in an interview being like,
00:29:56
Speaker
Larry Bird hasn't done this. Michael Jordan hasn't done this. I haven't done this. And so she like made a thing with like all their names listed and Caitlin Clark at the top and then like boxes and only Caitlin Clark's was checked. And so she's like, I got on the news. I was with the Hawkeye mascot. I was with the cheerleaders. And so that was cool. I was like, Oh my God, she's everywhere. And so I also saw she's the all time leading NCAA scorer, like no asterisk of like women.
00:30:25
Speaker
Uh-huh. She's above the whoever was the top male scorer. Yeah, that just happened. You know, it's like so cool. Well, I want to read up a little more on her because um I was hearing that, like, you know, so some people they don't like that she's sort of like a shit talker, but like she's a basketball player. Yeah. Like, yeah you know, but I think it's because she's she's a woman. So. Yes. Yeah. yeah She wasn't, nobody would even talk about it. Totally. And that's the thing, like people will be like, oh, you're so cocky. And it's like, yeah, because she's amazing. like And I'm not saying that people say that about her, but like when people are good, it's like, you kind of can be cocky when you're like so obviously that good about something. Yeah, you're like, I'm literally the best. I think I deserve it.
00:31:16
Speaker
but Yeah. Like you cannot argue with these statistics. It's science people. Yeah. Interesting. I want to hear what kind of smack talk she does. Like, no, yeah, I gotta, to let I gotta to like learn more about this because maybe she's saying some really horrible things. And I'm like, hey backtrack on yes, yes. But smack talk can be really fun. And Jordan was a huge smack talker. So I think that's, I think it's fun.
00:31:44
Speaker
he was like He was like out for vengeance all the time, apparently. And I like that. Obviously, there's a lot of things wrong with that, but you don't have a lot of people who are just very open about it. Right, right. Yeah, like you're not trying to be Mr. Nice Guy or Mrs. Nice Lady. Yeah, just trying to be Mr. Best Ever goat. Yeah, at the basketball.
00:32:14
Speaker
but the Yeah, it's the thing you're doing. And then I feel ah like once you start being aware of something, I'm sure you can relate, it just starts popping up everywhere. Yeah.
Dartmouth Team Unionization
00:32:27
Speaker
And so like, I was listening to NPR the other day, and they were like, Oh, yes, um the Dartmouth men's basketball team has unionized. What?
00:32:39
Speaker
Yeah. So it was like this big thing that they're going to like unionize. And then they were talking about, you know, if other teams unionize, will that be a deterrent for athletes to go there? Because will they not, you know, I don't actually know why that would be. But um I don't remember the last time Dartmouth made it very far, but still good for them, you know, like unionize. Yeah. Have rights. So interesting.
00:33:08
Speaker
because they are basically like unpaid employees. you know I mean, maybe maybe your payment is like the equivalent of your education if you're not paying for it or whatever, but I don't know. Again, I'll have to look more into it, maybe, but I just thought it was funny. I'm like, oh my
Peloton and NBA Collaboration
00:33:24
Speaker
God. And then this morning I get an email from Peloton that's like and NBA on Peloton. And I'm like, wait, what? Are they gonna start like showing the games? No, but they're gonna have like different,
00:33:36
Speaker
athletes like NBA players who are Peloton users anyways in classes like live so the first one that they have is the New York Nets Josh Hart is going to be in one of the um classes like in the class and you can be in a class with them.
00:33:55
Speaker
Yes. Yeah. So they'll be live in studio. They did this. They did this so similar with Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers from Las Culturistas. And I mean Bowen Yang is also from like Fire Island and Bowen is also on SNL. Yeah. But they they had them in one of the classes. And so like Bowen got to go up front with the instructor Cody. And so like they were both in front of the class. But then like Matt Rogers was like in with the other like part like class class students students in the class so but but he was mic'd up so like would like make commentary and stuff so it'll be interesting to see how how Josh Hart participates yeah he's probably like it's like a stroll in the park for me but yeah no I mean Grant made me like playing for you know however many minutes at a time and not riding a bike so
00:34:52
Speaker
Right, right. so So, yeah, I just thought it was interesting that it was like, oh my God, it's, it's everywhere. It really is. And like, that I realized this too, it's sort of like, you know how some things you can get into, and then I was just thinking this, like I was really into the TV show Severance, um which only has ah one season so far. And so then that's, that's that until the next season. Well, when you and you get into something that has like a huge history and is all over the country and the world and they have podcasts daily about it, it's like an unending source of content. yeah Yeah, that's a good point. Yeah, it's not surprising that you're going to see it everywhere, but you just start paying. You just start noticing it. Yeah, I always used to sort of block it out. And now I'm like, I'm interested in that. Yeah. Yeah.
00:35:49
Speaker
um I mean, I think i i we will I will ask you for your like rating. And I want you to be honest, because I was thinking about this, I was like, there's probably like a temptation, you know, to to be like, oh, it was fun, because ah Charlotte is my friend. I don't want to hurt your feelings. Yeah, but heard oh hurt them if you want. Okay, so what should our rating be? Like, is it one out of five?
00:36:18
Speaker
I think like, yeah, ah one to five basketballs or. Yeah. I like basketballs. Yeah. Basketballs. Um, and then also like we could talk a little bit about like accessibility type stuff. Okay. So so five obviously being like high, I'm like the highest and one or zero being like nothing. Yeah. Zero is like, a okay yeah. And then what I guess the mid, well, let's see, maybe one is.
00:36:49
Speaker
And then the midpoint is like three is like average. Amazing how that works out.
00:36:59
Speaker
um Yeah, no, I'm definitely, I'm going to go even with a half. So I'm going to go with three fully inflated basketballs and a one half inflated basketball. So 3.5 basketballs because really it like reignited some
00:37:18
Speaker
joy that is basketball for me um and that I just kind of haven't tapped in for for a while other than the once a year, you know, March Madness thing about it. And I'm not rating it higher only because I know I'm gonna keep going higher. Like I'm gonna get to a five. I'm going to be at your level where we are gonna be those annoying people at the bar, like talking crap to, you know, whoever will listen about like, oh my God, did you see that? Or did you know this? And blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. So I definitely am leaving room for um growth in that way. So i I really enjoyed it. It's definitely something that I am going to continue to
00:38:02
Speaker
um dabble in in all the ways. Like I'm still going to be listening to this and other podcasts that I can find. I'm going to be watching games. I'm going to be reading my Reddit subreddits and stay up way too late like I did last night, you know, and just kind of keep myself and mass and and and mesh immerse and immersed. Immersed. Immersed. Immersed in it. um So yes, I want to just say thank you because I'm happy. Yeah. Yay. And I'm happy because then I have one more person to talk to about it and I can stay immersed in because I'm going to be honest with you. Like ah Adam is like, ah you know, he's a ah fan from like 10 more or more years, 20 years, whatever. Those fans
00:38:52
Speaker
have like had their hopes dashed like yeah over and over again. So they're actually like very, um like almost PTSD about like yeah hope, you know? So you can't even enjoy the winds or anything. So I don't want to get to that point. I just want to be like, like, Oh, this is, ah we did, we did adopt a ah ah terrible little sun. Like we're trying like her time out. Well, he's not terrible. He's just little and his name is Julian Phillips, but you and I can adopt a son too. Okay. Okay, wait. So why did you guys adopt Julian Phillips? He doesn't play very much because he's very new and he, but he, like when he plays, he can be really good. He hasn't reached his full potential yet.
00:39:47
Speaker
um He is very focused. um And that adds some joy, I think, is just to be like, I'm looking for this like newbie guy. He also wears like these t-shirts underneath his chirpsies. Oh, Yeah. It's like when kids would wear like their t-shirt to go in the pool and you're like, oh. I know. He's like 20. He's like, whoa, whoa.
00:40:12
Speaker
That's cute. so Okay. Yeah. Oh, boy, too. So yeah, thank you. I hope that we maybe even we can get together at some point when there's in there and the same state. Yeah, go to a bar or go to a game.
00:40:31
Speaker
Oh my God, that would be, yeah, that would be perfect. And it can be so many places because all bars play it and so many states have have
Basketball's Accessibility and Viewing Options
00:40:40
Speaker
teams, you know? So, I mean, so I guess that brings us into accessibility. Like I think basketball, and NBA specifically, but all basketball is incredibly accessible. Yes. Like, yes, if you want to watch it, it's not necessarily free without cable. But there are so many other ways that you can watch it, you know, that. And and there's like these streaming networks now or there's a lot of streaming stuff ah with
00:41:14
Speaker
being able to watch like and NBA games, I think that it also is now cheaper even than I thought. Like looking on the website, it looks like it's $50 a season you could do it or $75 a season if you were- That's a long season. Yeah, yeah. It goes for a long time. So that's you know that's doable, but otherwise even just like on cable TV or regular TV.
00:41:38
Speaker
Yeah, and that you can listen to it on the radio, you know, and like, or yeah, go to a bar. Or you can't handle watching because too stressful, you can constantly refresh the the website. let see but See what the score is. Yeah, ah you know, or like, follow it live on Twitter. You know, I do feel like it's very, very accessible. yeah um It is free to participate in being like, you know, a watcher, again, in those ways.
00:42:09
Speaker
And it doesn't, you don't have to know a ton of rules. Like I think about baseball or tennis. There are a lot of but football. Oh God, I still can't. I still can't with the football. There are a lot of like weird rules that yes, you can still enjoy it even if you don't know the rules, but like this, it's pretty obvious. It's pretty obvious.
00:42:34
Speaker
Yeah, and then I think they do a good job of explaining when there's something random that happened, you know, like the fouls, I think are the part that's the hardest for me to understand. Which, what about that fight a again in the game against you Utah, right? i other night about that Yeah, I didn't see it. But I heard about it. And I kind of want to find like a clip of it.
00:42:57
Speaker
one Yes, I found one on the, you know, Reddit, of course, is where I thought I was like, oh, my God. But um yeah, yeah, you're right. When there are like weird files or whatever they do explain or like, oh, they're putting more time on the clock because they did a review. Like they're pretty good about like telling you what is going on. So I do feel like that. What else for accessibility?
00:43:22
Speaker
I guess like if you think about things like the podcasts or YouTube channels where they like recap things, there are a lot of men who talk about, I mean, granted, this is, you know, men's basketball, but at the same time, like the commentators and ah there's there's just a lot of that. And then I think there's, you know, occasionally like a female reporter, and then or somebody who's commenting who then gets shit from people. do you know Yeah, that is a very good point. Yeah, it is a lot of men. like There's diversity within the men. Although even that, like it's probably not as diverse as
00:44:07
Speaker
It could be, but yeah, yeah, mostly men. That's, that's a very good point. Yeah. And kind of like what we touched on last time where we were saying like men's basketball gets so much more airtime and money and you know, you can actually make a career out of it, whether, you know, professional or otherwise, whereas like women's basketball just
Recognition in Women's Basketball
00:44:29
Speaker
doesn't. So yeah, that's true. Yeah. That does make me want to try and watch more women's basketball.
00:44:37
Speaker
Mm hmm. Do that a little more. Seems daunting, though, to have like multiple. I mean, like the people who, ah you know, do the podcasts or comment, like they have to be you have to know it like everything that's going on. Oh, my God. Yeah, it's a lot. It is. It is a lot. Yeah.
Players in Music and Conclusion
00:45:01
Speaker
I don't know anything else about accessibility, but overall, it feels It feels pretty accessible. Yeah. but You know, to be a fan and to be like the level of fan you want to be, you know, you way into it or dabble.
00:45:19
Speaker
or just like, you know, listen to the songs that some of them, like some of them are like DJs and rappers like, you know. I was picturing you saying like, you know how in baseball they have like their walkout songs. I was thinking they meant that like, you know, the songs that they play when they're on the the court. No, the actual music they create.
00:45:47
Speaker
um Yeah, so this this was a good one. This was a really good kind of intro and um i'm I'm going to continue on this journey. I have a feeling. Thank you. Thank you for participating. And then, you know, let me know if Reddit's worth it. on and Oh God, just be careful. Honestly, I was up way too late to know last night. And it's like so dumb because it's like one minute, ah I'm like houseplants. Oh, okay, I need to do all, ah I'm like trying to shop on Amazon for um grow plants, like grow lights. And then the next minute I'm like watching, yeah, clips from games on of the and NBA. And then I'm also like reading up on all of the Housewives drama. I'm like, ah
00:46:34
Speaker
I can't keep up, but I want to know it all. And none of it's important. It's all fun. Yeah, it is. But they're interests. These are our interests. Yeah. Well, cool. Thank you so much for well getting into it with me. Absolutely. And the next time I'll tell you about one of my interests that I'm going to try to interest you in. I can't wait. All right.
