Discovery of 'Bitter Souls' and Initial Impressions

00:02:33
Speaker
Okay. And then tonight you were on Tubi, you found a movie.
00:02:39
Speaker
No, no, no, no, no. no no It wasn't just a movie. It was a good movie. Okay. um I did not find it on Tubi. It was, we were doing other movies or another episode. And right afterwards, somebody had contacted me from this movie.
00:02:59
Speaker
And i was like, okay, well, I want to watch the movie before I committed to having anybody on. Because you told me to watch the movies now and see what happens. So i mean I went on Tubi and i I watched it.
00:03:13
Speaker
So what's the movie called? It's called Bitter Souls. Yeah, because we've been hyping that up for a minute. So you got a clip for for the movie? Yes. Can we show everybody what we're talking about?
00:03:26
Speaker
Yes, we're going play that right now. perfect The Carbondale Sheriff's Department is asking for the public's help finding a missing teenage girl. Kendall's been missing since last night. know those bastards know something. i feel the darkness around him.
00:03:41
Speaker
have to help him. And we have to help his friend.
00:03:45
Speaker
The spell requires that we make an unwavering bond.
00:03:50
Speaker
That your enemies become my enemies.
00:03:55
Speaker
And my enemies become your enemies.
00:04:04
Speaker
I've never fought a foe like this before. The master of black magic voodoo. She's as close to hell as you'll ever want to go.
00:04:31
Speaker
It looks like a pretty good, good, uh, clip there for the, for the movie. You know, when you said bitter souls, you know what I was thinking was like, was thinking like a vampire style movie.
00:04:43
Speaker
Well, actually originally that's what I thought of too, but you know, that's why I haven't told you anything about it. Cause I told you that you have to watch it. Okay. Okay. So fair enough we're going to, uh, we're going now we're going let, we're going introduce one of the, um,
00:05:00
Speaker
We're going to introduce the director.

Director's Journey with 'Bitter Souls'

00:05:03
Speaker
you remember his name? Mr. Tom Ryan.
00:05:08
Speaker
Tom, what's happening, buddy? How are you? Hey, guys. How are you? Thanks for having me on. Really appreciate it Absolutely. So real quick, before we let you introduce your cast and crew of Misfits, how did you had you guys come up with this thing, this this project?
00:05:24
Speaker
i was approached I was approached by the executive producer, Ed McGeever. um with the script and asking asking me to direct it. Ed and I had been friends for a long time through social media, through making independent horror films, as with Showtown, American Pictures.
00:05:43
Speaker
And I founded Theater of Terror way back when. And just kind of following each other's ah careers on social media and staying in touch with each other, kind of having a ah very similar appreciation of independent horror films and what it takes to make them.
00:05:59
Speaker
And so, yeah, Ed and I wanted to work together. There was a project we were going to work together on prior to this um that was kind of placed on hold. And so in this opportunity arose, Ed reached out.
00:06:14
Speaker
Very cool. And then you took it and you just kind of ran with it? Well, that's ah that's that's putting it that's that's putting it in a very in a very ah simple kind of way. ah No, not at all. it was ah It was a real concerted team effort. There was a lot of people involved in making this.

Challenges of Shooting 'Bitter Souls'

00:06:34
Speaker
The film was shot in nine days.
00:06:37
Speaker
And that's not an easy task for a feature film. So we have a lot of ground to cover and a lot of people put in a lot of backbreaking work to get it done. And let's let's talk about those people. We've got some of those people backstage.
00:06:52
Speaker
Who do you want to bring on first? Let's bring on um ah one of the stars of Bitter Souls, Mike McGeever.
00:07:04
Speaker
What's up, guys? How are you, buddy? I'm good. How are you guys? Fantastic. Tell us a little bit about your role and um and how you came to be a part of the movie.
00:07:18
Speaker
So I play Lucian. He is the male lead in the in the movie. He's just like a chill guy, you know. he has to save this girl he's very interested in and then you'll have to see what happens when you watch the film. So, yeah. No.
00:07:37
Speaker
I'll watch it. I'll watch it. All right. Tom, who else do you want to bring on? Who else you got back there, Mark? So I want to bring on a wonderful actress that I met on this set, and it's Destiny Brown, and she plays Millette in Their Souls.
00:07:55
Speaker
Destiny, how are you? I'm doing great. How are you guys doing? Fantastic. um Same question, kind of for you. How did you get selected for the role or or how did you come to find the role?
00:08:10
Speaker
Yes, I actually worked with one of the producers before prior and optioned for the role. The I guess I'll give you guys some hints. I don't know if we're go to be able to have a whole interview without spilling details about the movie. So I guess over read the It's fun to screw with Brian.
00:08:30
Speaker
yeah so I play voodoo priestess. Okay, so that'll be my breadcrumb. And I help Mike's character bring back his girlfriend from the from the underworld. And so um I think that was what was so interesting to me to audition for a role that was...
00:08:49
Speaker
like supernatural. I'm a fan of supernatural. I grew up watching vampires and werewolves and witches and all those things. And so to realize that with an actual role where there's actual stakes where Malette is like actually pursuing something, she loses someone who's really dear to her. And so it it was kind of a very realistic approach to the supernatural dreams I had of of approaching a role like that before.
00:09:17
Speaker
Very cool. Very cool. And Tom, who else you got for us tonight? If he's finally called in, making a ah special appearance tonight, hopefully, is the gentleman that plays Emmanuel, Michael Hargrove.
00:09:35
Speaker
Hello. Can everyone hear me? There you go. Found him. Got him. Hi, guys. Are you okay? Yes, Michael. How are you, sir? Good, good, good, good. You made it just in the nick of time. some dolls in the back. but Okay. Michael, I got to ask, um you wear you wear some some very refined makeup in the film and a very nice top hat. Who who did your makeup?
00:10:03
Speaker
Oh my God. It was a joint effort and then i you put me on the spot because I can't remember name. Tom, help me out here. Yeah, it was Lynn. It was, what was that?
00:10:14
Speaker
Lynn. Lynn, thank you. Thank you. She worked so hard on that. And I wanted to take it, but I couldn't do it.
00:10:24
Speaker
I had to let it happen.
00:10:27
Speaker
So you didn't get to keep the top hat. No, it didn't. You're supposed to sign that and auction it off or give away to a top fan or something like that. You're supposed to do that. No, it was in my closet. No, dude.
00:10:42
Speaker
but like There's going to be plenty more of those, I'm sure. so yes So guys, um nine days of shooting. Where was the film shot? And would you go back there again?
00:10:59
Speaker
It was shot in Carbondale, PA. And yeah, Carbondale was actually a very nice, like the perfect kind of town to have that setting. Yeah, it was cool.
00:11:12
Speaker
Yeah, of of of like, ah I mean, you know, maybe it's not New Orleans where you would kind of think you would find like voodoo or what have you, which was kind of cool about it. It it reminded me sort of a, of a,
00:11:25
Speaker
a Stephen King-esque a town that you would read in one of his novels, like these quaint little towns and with some creepy little stores and old churches in it. ah Yeah, it was really... Lots of churches. yeah Yeah, lots of churches in a very small ah radius. So very interesting old town. And with with one of my favorite locations to shoot in was at Town Square.
00:11:52
Speaker
It was at the the store, and Mark, I know you saw the movie, the antique shop where Destiny's character, Millette, owns that shop. um That was one of my favorite locations, just that little park and that little street down there. That was a wonderful area.
00:12:07
Speaker
Destiny went

Grounding Characters in Authenticity

00:12:08
Speaker
back and bought the place. yeah She loved it. It was almost. It was really cool, though, the the owner of the shop, um good I asked some silly question like, so where do you so where do you guys get all these items from? And he was kind of offended because he was like, I do this. Like, this is my culture. Like, I'm going to show you how to do this hoodoo. And so he gave me like lessons before and was you know showing me some authentic techniques that really allowed me to ground myself in the character in a way that I don't think I would have before. But it was really cool. I agree. Tom was a very cool location.
00:12:47
Speaker
Yeah, that and that was that was really very lucky that we found that location because like Destiny said, this, this Chris was his name. He had, ah he already had a voodoo shrine.
00:13:01
Speaker
Like, so it was when we walked in and I told him we're making a movie about voodoo, he said, come here and let me show you around. And it was wild. It was a wild. they're very lucky for us to find that antique shop because the authenticity of it in the film is is awesome. and we didn't have to lay down one of we didn't have to do any set dressing on that that was that's the actual store yeah well it's not too often that you find stuff like that no uh here's another question for you guys too um when you guys are shooting these types of films or when you're shooting a film like this i know you got nine days you're shooting in a town where there there's got to be people just walking around and milling about and stuff like that how do you keep them off your set
00:13:50
Speaker
uh yeah yeah we had we had we had we had some so some security on set we did run into some issues a couple of nights uh it's funny we um um we shot mostly at night the film so that really helped us with crowd control um but you know sometimes at two o'clock in the morning you have some interesting characters coming home from the local pub that kind of want to see what's going on. And we had we had a few infiltrate our set.
00:14:18
Speaker
ah But nothing that the Big Ed, our producer, couldn't handle. ah So it was, yeah. So it felt basically, that they were the ones that were the zombies, right? oh know those Those guys were actually a ah team of wrestlers from the area.
00:14:37
Speaker
Yeah, which were really great guys, really fun, tons of enthusiasm and wonderful, wonderful guys to have in that role. I love those guys, those demonic clowns.
00:14:48
Speaker
And before we came on to screen, we you guys were actually, Michael was talking about wrestling. is that... ah Is that something that you're into there, bud?
00:14:59
Speaker
Talk to me. ah not Not professional wrestling as a participant. I'll watch it, but I won't do that. It's more like a high school wrestling, or at least I wrestled in high school, so it's different kind of wrestling. but you Okay, so like a Greco-Roman wrestling style?
00:15:13
Speaker
Sort

Wrestling and Unique Film Contributions

00:15:14
Speaker
of, yeah, folk style mainly, which is attacking the legs and stuff like that. You know, it's stuff that we had in high school too, Brian. Yeah, of course, yes. um You're not a professional wrestler. You don't want to be a professional wrestler?
00:15:28
Speaker
ah Professional wrestling is like w WWE. Exactly. that's you know i'll do it might I'll keep it all open. you know Whatever happens, happens. If they yeah they hit they hit me up, you know I'm always ready. It's going to be the next film. It's going to be the next hurrah.
00:15:43
Speaker
so um mike on on the set is there anything that you remember specifically that you really enjoyed um uh mark had brought up something earlier about did you get to drive the car and you said no you didn't get to drive the car i don't i don't know what he's talking about but clue me in just halloppei you would want to drive the car what's the um well i drove a golf cart but the car i didn't drive the car you'll have to see the film to know what i'm talking about there but yeah
00:16:16
Speaker
And ah to answer your question, there's just so many great locations in the film, like working out with local shops, the local areas with the drive-in theater, all beautiful locations that I just had a great time with. It was a amazing experience.
00:16:30
Speaker
The Woods, they were awesome. You'd recommend the area for anybody going to? Oh, yeah. Go for it. Yeah, go there. Great area. mr Mr. Hargrove, how did you come to...
00:16:44
Speaker
how did you come to um find your character voice? um but a I'm drinking. um I think it came to me when I talked to Tom about the character and I just had to do it Jamaican. I think I did an okay job, but it had to be there. It was more or less ah wanted to wanted to get the voice ah that was unique but not common.
00:17:14
Speaker
So I kind of took a little bit of myself, little bit of different actors, and of my brother, older brother, and it made it work.
00:17:24
Speaker
Okay.
00:17:27
Speaker
Sorry, cats are fighting right here. I was wondering what the hell was happening with Mark. One of the cats slammed right into the wall. Mark's got a petting zoo at his house.
00:17:42
Speaker
I don't have as many as I used to. See, he admits to it. You're a cat guy, huh, Mark? No, I have cats, dogs, ferrets, guinea pigs. I used to have ducks, chickens. A zoo.
00:17:57
Speaker
Wow. And um um it's more my kids that brought most of these home, not me. Yeah, the kids can go out with the animals. See ya. You're out of here. You got you guys have children Yeah, I do.
00:18:16
Speaker
I have two. You have two kids. Do they have pets or will you allow them to have their own pets? We have a dog. So no, no, no, no no not we They. They have a dog. It was their dog. And then and then I wound up walking them every day. So it's your dog now. Yeah, yeah. ah Michael, Mr. Hargrove, how about you? chi Well, the way I look at it is my...
00:18:43
Speaker
My nieces and nephews, my sisters have enough kids. So I have four cats. they don't You don't have to pay for college. they you know Not yet.
00:18:54
Speaker
You find the smart one in the bunch and then you're like, son a bitch, I'm sending you to college. Yeah, yeah true. Destiny? destiny So I have two bunny children that are bunnies.
00:19:09
Speaker
and oh Outside of being an actor, I'm a high school teacher. So my full time job is being basically the parent of like 300 kids. have a lot of car yeah I'm sorry.
00:19:22
Speaker
It's a great job. How about you, Mike? No kids yet, but definitely in the future. I'm in college right now. So still couple more years left until that. But yeah.
00:19:33
Speaker
so you're in college so you're not allowed to have animals on college campus is that right are you on the campus is that we live uh you can have animals on campus but it's a headache you know oh is it yeah okay okay well we're gonna send you something one of okay mark one of mark's cats yeah like my kids are gonna allow that we're finally gonna send a cat to college this is happening i told you michael Hey, wait a minute. I already have a cat that has a degree.
00:20:07
Speaker
Insanity doesn't count though. Hey, I'm telling you, it's, it's got a degree. What is, what is your guys's next project? Are you guys going to, do you guys have any plans to do anything together in the future?

Potential Sequel Discussions

00:20:23
Speaker
Uh, not officially, not officially, but, uh, I've, I've spoken to, uh, to, um, showtown about a possible sequel to bitter souls um that might be fun to explore and there's so much that we could do with it um especially like a focus you know on on millet and uh on on her sister um and and and on a manual and and just kind of like a parallel if you've seen the film you understand what i'm saying mark where we kind of go so sort of before this all yeah yeah yeah probably right so okay yeah anyway and there's nothing official about it but um if we were all to work together again it would probably be like a sequel like that if we were all to work together yeah i would love to work with any actors again
00:21:16
Speaker
um individually on anything as well. We had a great time on set um between, i mean, and and all the actors, even the people that couldn't be here with us today. yeah there was so much great energy and and some just really fun memiss if I didn't shout out to our crew members kate, JB, Chuck, Grace, Liz, Lynn, everybody that put everything all their hard efforts into the the picture. it was It was a tough shoot. It was a really tough shoot.
00:21:54
Speaker
And but everybody like got through it with smile. it makes it very memorable and uh it's there's so many stories i could tell you about this film it's a true testament to independent filmmaking it's like you you watch the film and you'll never appreciate the the what we went through to get it done you know in in certain cases so like those kind of circumstances a lot of people never hear about so i just want to shout out to everybody cast and crew that that couldn't be on with us today i'm writing my book so it's going to come out later
00:22:28
Speaker
Oh, it's on your book. Great. That's why we're having independent movies on here. And, you know, it it's it's interesting to see how you guys put it all together compared to the budget that you guys have compared to what Hollywood shoots. And you guys, I can see a lot of you guys doing a lot better job than what Hollywood does on theirs. And this movie, you know, it was, you know,
00:22:57
Speaker
I mean, without you know saying, hey, Brian, you got to watch the movie. Like for 100th time, I've told him. um I think he would like this one because there's a lot of them that I've told him, okay, you need to watch this because we're gonna have him on the show.
00:23:11
Speaker
Nine out of 10, eight out of 10 times, he's not able to because he works late and he's a busy man. But I tell him what it's about.
00:23:21
Speaker
And like I told you guys before we started, I didn't tell him a damn thing about this movie because I didn't. i wanted him to watch it after this to see what i was talking about you know watching you know hearing from you guys what the movie's about and then you know seeing everything else but that is't this is us pitching to brian the movie i it's 101 reasons to watch bitter souls gotcha 101 reasons to watch bitter souls it sounds amazing like the the the
00:23:56
Speaker
The video that Mark showed absolutely looks amazing. And like he was saying, for the budget that you guys were working with within, it looks like you had um you had some graphics in there. You had some some good like quality.
00:24:12
Speaker
I saw the head movement, the head out of the bag thing. yeah i mean That was actually pretty cool. yeah yeah that one So yeah, I'm kind of intrigued.
00:24:24
Speaker
yeah we we Yeah, we put it every dollar spent on the film, we put it ah doing the best that we could with it. I think something that helped all of us is, and why the film is fun to me, I think it's a fun film. you know it's It reminds me of like those old fun horror movies that you would watch. yeah and it And it just kind of comes across to me that way because I think we knew what the movie was when we were making it and we knew our limitations.
00:24:50
Speaker
and so we leaned into what made it so charming i think yeah i might add i think um Tom, I know you're not gonna toot your own horn, but I think you really created like a set where I felt like as an artist, I could be free and I could like really take risks. And I think that's something like I'm, you know, beginning of my career, but I think that the bigger the set I've experienced, the more rigid the boundaries are for actors and the more it's just about hitting your mark and getting to that point. And I think um with Tom, it really felt like we were building this story. And I think
00:25:27
Speaker
I remember, Michael, times where you were kind of like playing director, like making choices, and then we would all make choices that like ended up making it into the film. And i think what a really good director does is make sure that you hit the the movie moments. Sometimes you're shooting out of sequence. And so, you know, sometimes they'll be like, hey, by the way, you're you're dying right now. Like, you gotta remember that you got me in.
00:25:52
Speaker
Outside of that, it was really much like, you know, take this character, make it your own. And I think when you have that much freedom, it really shows in the film. And it was really fun. And when you have fun making it, it shows.
00:26:06
Speaker
That's a secret. Have fun. You know, that's a whole that's a whole secret of doing a good film. Big budget is small. It really is. Yeah, I think so. Mike, did you have fun on the set?
00:26:19
Speaker
Which Mike? You. You're Mike. If that works. OK, I'm Mike. OK, OK. Yeah, no, don't want to phone. Yeah. No, it was a great time. I love the locations. I already said it, but I can't emphasize that enough. It was so much fun working with the other cast.
00:26:35
Speaker
Everybody's so talented. It was a great time. Yeah.

Local Community Support in Carbondale, PA

00:26:38
Speaker
i mean i mad You and I was just like right on, man. I'm a food guy. I got to know, what did you guys eat while you were there?
00:26:49
Speaker
oh Good food, mean, not so good. and I mean, they're laughing about this, so that might not have been that good. No, we actually we actually got catered by a lot of the local restaurants and businesses.
00:27:05
Speaker
So there was definitely a variety of different stuff. We weren't, like, eating pizza every day or whatever. I mean, it was pizza, but we we we were we were we were getting, like, local diners and stuff.
00:27:17
Speaker
our producer uh bob savakinis would arrange for catering from different small businesses to support the area um even if you explore the town you'll definitely find like a good place to eat like uh tom we found that great uh bowling alley with yeah let me tell you you was amazing it's just like the whole community is just like lot of different restaurants get that's a really funny stor like I would never eat in a bowling alley around. Never.
00:27:49
Speaker
It's like but no and i mean no offense to bowling alleys, but its just I've never eaten at it, eating good food at a bowling alley. And Michael and I were starving after the shoot. We were, it was an old day shoot and we were starving and we went to this bowling alley across from this drive in theater.
00:28:10
Speaker
on somebody's recommendation at them they said go try go eat in the bowling alley it's the they have the best burgers and i looked at him like why okay so we uh we went across and we uh we had some burgers yeah and god damn they were some good burgers i couldn't believe it i couldn't believe it They were were really well known for that. So that was that was cool. So that was that was a great deal that we had, but yeah, we were well fed there. Garbondale took care of us.
00:28:45
Speaker
Elizabeth said, loved working with you guys and your bitter souls. Hello. It was amazing working with you. Yeah, Liz was the head in the bag. Oh, yeah. no yeah Yeah. Good to know she's all right.
00:29:01
Speaker
All right, guys, listen, we've hit the halfway point of the show. Okay. What we typically do right here is we're going to take just a couple of minutes, let you guys refill your drinks while Mark plays a music montage or a video of some sorts.
00:29:15
Speaker
i got yeah We're to have Tom tell us who it is. oh the band. Oh, the band coming up.
00:29:26
Speaker
so um of course we're shouting out to sylvia platypus very close friends of mine my first feature film i used their music um my band has performed with their band i love them all uh a great group of people and a great group of musicians and a great band and they were the band mark in our movie in our dream sequence that mike uh young mike mcgee were there got to and enjoy and that is sylvia platypus And the song is Like a Vampire. All right, guys, when we come back, we're going to play our game called Florida or Not Florida.
00:30:06
Speaker
We have enough flares today, Mark. I don't think we need the audience. Oh, we more than enough. I don't think we need the audience. But audience, stick around, and you can play right along with the cast and crew. It's going to be fantastic. Hey, what do you get if you win? Find out.

00:35:41
Speaker
Awesome. Such a great band. Loved every actor in the film and they are asking for a sequel, guys. Oh, I don't know how you guys going to put this together, but going have to put this together.
00:35:56
Speaker
Should I put out my PayPal and yeah, do i want it out there man. And then the dollars and we'll get it. ah Fantastic. All right, guys. so we at Talking Shit love to play a game called Florida Man or not Florida Man.

Fun Game Segment with the Cast

00:36:13
Speaker
Basically what it is, is I'm going to read five headlines.
00:36:16
Speaker
And all you guys have to do is guess if it's a Florida or not Florida headline. That's it. Very easy. And the reason we do Florida or not Florida is because, guys, that's where Mark and I are from. And we have the wildest, absolutely insane stories come out of Florida.
00:36:36
Speaker
Yes, I do know. So maybe all of them are Florida to man. You won't know until you guess. fifty All right, so if you guys are ready, here we go. I will read the very first headline.
00:36:52
Speaker
You let me know if that's Florida or not. Florida and we'll just kind of go around the room. We'll start with Tom. We'll go to Mr. Hargrove, then Destiny, and then mike right, guys, here we go. Loose cow leads police on a two-hour chase through suburban neighborhood.
00:37:07
Speaker
The cow had better cardio than half of the police department. Is Florida or not Florida? Florida. not florida tom says not florida mark mr hargrove um i don't remember seeing a lot of cows in florida so i'm gonna say not florida mr hargrove says not florida destiny what are you thinking and guys in the audience you're more than welcome to to play along with us so give us your give us your answers yeah i'm gonna go with my guy it was the cows i don't think the cows
00:37:43
Speaker
So you're going to go not Florida as well? Yeah, not Florida. Not Florida. Mike, what do you think? I didn't reveal this, but I'm also living in Florida, and I'm going to say that's Florida.
00:37:55
Speaker
See? I told you. Listen, guys, you got to pay attention, but let's we're going to find out here in just a second. ah Let's look at the audience real quick. Anybody in the audience want to take a stab at this?
00:38:07
Speaker
Real quick. They're late just a couple of seconds, so if they don't answer up, that's no big deal. I will give you guys the answer. I'll read it one more time. Here we go. Lose Cow leads police on a two hour chase through suburban neighborhood.
00:38:20
Speaker
The cow had better cardio than half the police department. This was Texas. a Texas. All uha right, here we go. Here's your next one.
00:38:36
Speaker
Man claims to be half man and half dog. He fatally attacks a couple and bites their faces. Florida. Florida. florida or no million Okay. Tom says Florida. Mike says Florida. Destiny, what do you think?
00:38:53
Speaker
i don't i want to keep on being a follower. I'm going to not Florida. Not Florida. Mike, what do you think? I'm going to say Florida. Mike says Florida. Guys, one more time with the headline and I'll read it from the top.
00:39:07
Speaker
Florida man claims to be a half man, half dog, and fatally attacks a couple and bites their faces. It was indeed Florida. Can I just ask you a question? Did the headline say Florida man?
00:39:22
Speaker
It does. I have to take all Florida man. So yes, it did say Florida man. Here's a comment on the web though.
00:39:34
Speaker
Half man, half bear, half pig. Man bear pig. Man bear pig. Great. I like it. All right, here we go. Here's our next one.
00:39:46
Speaker
Bear breaks into a car, drinks 36 cans of soda. The bear chose Orange Crush like a ch true menace.
00:39:56
Speaker
Florida or not Florida? Not Florida. Now, listen, we have bears here. I just want to make you i know. Crystal clear. Okay. Yeah, I know. know. All right. So Tom says not Florida. Mr. Hargrove, what do you think? Oh, that's a good one. That's a good one. I'm going to say...
00:40:17
Speaker
alright three Florida okay Destiny I'm gonna go not Florida Destiny is not Florida Mike what do you think bud not Florida and not Florida there Mark you got everybody all right here we go one more time Headline is from California. Bear breaks into a car, drinks 36 cans of soda. The bear chose Orange Crush like a true menace.
00:40:49
Speaker
California. Close. We were close to Florida though, right? yes I'm shocked that all of these are real. I thought some of them were going to be so real. are 100% ripped from the headlines.
00:41:04
Speaker
And it's not just Florida. It's ah it's everywhere. so it's crazyy let's Let's try this one. Man calls 911 to report he's too high after eating weed brownies.
00:41:21
Speaker
Dispatcher told him to lie down. He complied immediately and waited for police. Is this Florida or not Florida? Florida.
00:41:33
Speaker
We think it's Florida? Yes. Okay. right Mr. Hargrove. Destiny? I don't think it's Florida, and I think it's California. Ooh. Okay. She's just like... Do you get extra points for correctly designated? If she nailed that, I would give her an extra point. out ah mike Mike, what do you think? Is that Florida or not Florida? I'm going to go with not Florida.
00:42:04
Speaker
not florida with the brent now listen here okay i can tell you something brownies i i can tell you something most of the time when he brings up a drug related it's normally florida but let's see but in this case i'm not sure man calls 9-1-1 to report he's too high after eating weed brownies dispatcher told him to lie down he complied immediately and waited for police to arrive what's round on both sides and high in the middle oh oh
00:42:39
Speaker
ohio yeah All right. Are you disappointed in Ohio now, Mike? Evidently, stuff happens in Ohio, and it's a guy who eats deep brownies and then calls 911. Right.
00:42:54
Speaker
We here in Florida, we don't call 911 when we eat deep brownies. That makes sense. We just enjoy the ride. We get back and enjoy the space travel to the moon. Yeah. Last one. All right. Last one, guys. Here we go.
00:43:10
Speaker
Man clings to a moving truck to save his kidnapped daughter. Is this Florida or not Florida?
00:43:21
Speaker
I'd say Florida. Tom's going Florida. Mr. Hargrove, what do you think? oh Well, I'm going to try to redeem myself. I am going to say not Florida.
00:43:34
Speaker
Not Florida. Okay. Destiny? I think it's Florida. I think you said it was the kidnapped daughter. Yep. Crazy people do crazy things, especially when they love people.
00:43:45
Speaker
Florida. That's right. Florida. Okay. And Mike, what do you think? I'll go up Florida. Guys, we have a superhero on our hands. Florida man clings to moving truck to save his kid and have daughter.
00:43:59
Speaker
Yes, that did happen in Florida. And there is a caption. There is a caption. I thought that there was a comment for this one. I'm sorry. There was not.
00:44:12
Speaker
Oh, I thought that there was a caption, ah an additional caption for that one, because typically there are. But unfortunately, there wasn't for that one. But yes, that one was indeed Florida. We do have a superhero on our hands. Guys, that's Florida not Florida. Mark, how did we do?
00:44:28
Speaker
Three way tie. A three way tie? Yes. Let me guess. Tom, Mike and Destiny. Yes.
00:44:39
Speaker
I don't think Mr. Hargrove did so well.

Mike McGeever's Academic and Career Aspirations

00:44:41
Speaker
I think you yeah all i mean he he was doing great in the beginning. Guys,
00:44:51
Speaker
thats what did you think about the game? It's a little bit of fun? That was so fun. It puts an extra spin to it that you're from Florida. Yeah. Yeah. and and And Mike told everybody where he stays and now. So is it University of Florida? He didn't tell what university. He just said that he was from Florida.
00:45:10
Speaker
It's either University of Florida or the other one. You know, you are aware that there are ones.
00:45:23
Speaker
But who's the mascot, Mike? Give us that. Oh, I don't go to University of Florida. I go to a smaller school called Stetson. And our mascots come with John Stetson himself. So, the Hatters, yeah.
00:45:36
Speaker
That's our mascot. Oh, that's cool. I was waiting for him to say Bulls. The USF Bulls. Oh, no.
00:45:46
Speaker
That's awesome. what are you What are you in college for right now? What are we studying? um History right now. That's my major. Okay. And I want to go to law school after this, so. Oh boy, here we go.
00:45:58
Speaker
Hey, we we we know a lawyer that was an actor as well. Mark. Yes. um who lack Jack, ah help me out here.
00:46:08
Speaker
Brennan. Yep. Jack Brennan was, yeah, we had Jack Brennan. He's a lawyer. He's a lawyer full time and an actor part time.
00:46:18
Speaker
And he loves being an actor. So ah he's probably going to give up being a lawyer. I'm just kidding. He's probably not. Doubt it. Probably not. He probably takes a lot of money now, Warrior.
00:46:30
Speaker
Yeah. But um if i if you guys give me your addresses. Not now. Not now. On the screen right now. I will send you guys some decals out.
00:46:45
Speaker

Stick them on your laptop. uh remember as you can hide it or else somebody else sees it just kidding we i'm just kidding we really like uh we really like having our fans and uh and uh your fans ask hey what does that mean talking shit what is that so yeah if you stick it on something that's exactly what we're doing right now that's what it means uh tom tom what's next for you bud
00:47:20
Speaker
So ah there's a feature screenplay that I've written that I'm um ah pushing very hard through through higher channels and trying to live

Director's Upcoming Projects

00:47:30
Speaker
the dream. And there's not much I can say about it at this point, but um hopefully um we're going to make a splash sometime soon. And we'll see you time.
00:47:42
Speaker
I'll have some big news for you. And that's really all I can say about it. But yeah, I've been hard at work doing that. I might be shooting another feature this year. i'm waiting for a script and possibly another the short um with a um an actor I recently worked with on a short film called The Final work Walk. His name is Glenn McBride.
00:48:06
Speaker
And he and his colleagues in his production company there wrote something that they'd like me to direct. So we're working on getting that developed as well. um But yeah, yeah, a few things in the oven right now, but nothing nothing really I could discuss or promote just yet.
00:48:22
Speaker

Yeah, I've met a few of them. they're great They're great. They seem like they're down to earth and they really like you guys because they're here tuning in on a little tiny podcast called called Talking Shit to see you guys. They're not here to see us.
00:51:18
Speaker
i have a capture I have one of those. i foral so i have fuel that Destiny, where can our viewers and your fans find you and what project do you have or projects do you have that you want people to know about?
00:51:36
Speaker
Yeah, so um first the easy thing. So Instagram, Destiny Leilani Brown, and my website is destinybrown.org. Projects working on currently in my writer phase. So I just finished producing a short film that I wrote so called Sometimes Candles Burn, where it's three best friends that live together. um Basically, shit goes down on one of their birthdays. And then another short play that I wrote, I'll be acting in it in a short run in New York City called The Act of Cleaning and Other Methods to Live Carefree, which is a socially conscious piece about a cleaner who finds out that his job is actually more about stopping people from revolting than actually helping them we
00:52:27
Speaker
um towards the revolution and figures out his piece and the whole pie and has to wrestle with that. So I'm working on that and i'm teaching, yeah directing a musical this year. so Pray for me. name Teaching is the audience, though. That's the big thing. like that's Teaching, just say teaching, because that's the future.
00:52:52
Speaker
Yes. You were training those kids. You're instilling your stuff into them, you know your your knowledge in that. So that's the And they're engaged. They're engaged with the world. And we have interesting conversations. I think high school is such a special age where having access to quality arts education is like the best thing that you can do for a New York City public school kid, because they are brilliant. And um yeah, it reminds me of what art's really about and so much fun. So that's what I'll be doing.
00:53:25
Speaker
um I must have really went to the wrong high school then, because I slept
00:53:31
Speaker
griff I didn't know how much I liked high school until I was done with it. So I'm just saying. Michael McKeever. Talk to me. Can our fans and your followers follow you?
00:53:45
Speaker
they were his followers, they wouldn't be nowhere to follow Stalkers. I'm sorry. Stalkers. We get a lot of those here, guys. i'm not going to lie to you.
00:53:56
Speaker
We do? No, we don't. I'm just kidding. Cause everybody's, everybody's giving you their address. That's why that's the that's real quick. After Mike tells you his thing, I'm going to tell you my whole premise for a movie and then you guys can put it together.
00:54:14
Speaker
Go ahead. mike All right. So I'm on Instagram and Facebook. You can find me at mad Mike McKeever and regarding projects. wherever the wind takes me, you know, I'm ready for anything. So nothing planned just yet, but whatever happens, happens. I'm always ready to go. So, yeah.
00:54:31
Speaker
But soon to be a lawyer. In a couple of years. Yeah. what Well, what kind of lawyer though? I need to know, like, uh, you're going to chase ambulances or no, no, not, no, not going to be a medical, a medical lawyer.
00:54:44
Speaker
I'm not sure. Maybe real estate law, maybe military law, sports and entertainment probably. Cause you know, actor, lawyer, there you go connect that, try that. Yeah. So I'm playing with different things right now. Just looking into it.
00:54:59
Speaker
You guys watch out if you guys need to get good attorney, a good lawyer. I know one, but not right now. Like how many years? Probably like six more years.
00:55:09
Speaker
So six more years. All right. So, so since you, since you brought it up, Tom,
00:55:17
Speaker
ah so so since you since you brought it up tom yeah Yes, I ask for a bunch of addresses because Mark and I sneak out in the middle of the night after the show.
00:55:27
Speaker
We find your house. Brian, Brian, Brian. Oh, I'm sorry. Yeah, I'm worried. ah Don't be. Don't be. ah it's It's a joke. Brian never gets the addresses. I'm the only one that I throw him away after.
00:55:43
Speaker
Listen, I don't even quite honestly, guys, I don't even know how to use. a What's that one thing that you have the line that you asked me? Instagram? Yeah, I don't even know how to use that. but but like every Every time every time a girl is on there and she's like, oh, hi.
00:55:59
Speaker
I'm like, friend, friend, friend. So I have to go through it. I have to go through it and unfriend them. So warium Destiny, you better set him

Destiny Brown's Creative Endeavors in Arts Education

00:56:09
Speaker
a P.O. box.
00:56:10
Speaker
so I was literally just saying that. I said, one more joke. One more joke and in PO box.
00:56:25
Speaker
What about this? the the last one that I'll ask. um What is one thing that you will tell somebody about this film to make them want to see this film even more?
00:56:38
Speaker
um There is a scene where I take my shirt off
00:56:44
Speaker
hey not tweet want Hold on. my wife My wife is over here panting now. all
00:56:56
Speaker
I a in the background. I was like, whoa, easy killer. Just seeing it on any of your streaming platforms that it's on, it's good. It's good. We have fun here.
00:57:08
Speaker
Good. Tom, what about you? What would you tell them? Oh, gosh, one thing to make somebody want to see the film every even more. Yeah. um You know, go into it, go into it ready to have a lot of fun.
00:57:24
Speaker
Yeah. with with With a great um and and and all due credit to Steve Gray and Ed McGeever for the the the the script.
00:57:34
Speaker
just a great fun voodoo meets teen angst you know ah meets obviously you saw the music video meets rock and roll like it's just got that classic feel to it it's a very it's a fun voodoo and vengeance adventure film to watch um and it's the kind of stuff i grew up on and um i love that kind of stuff so no animals were harmed during the making of the oh no we killed like three pigs god yeah you at what you do yeah kind but the bacon was it's so crispy crispy talk to me what what would you tell people one thing to to make them want to watch this film even more yeah i would say um
00:58:25
Speaker
I did my own stunts. So usually me get my ass beat by a clown. And I get mauled and dropped, yep, that got dropped the floor. And Mike, i was it's actually funny because I was just watching Twilight where they were saying that they had this whole dolly that they built for Jacob to carry Bella, but up it ended up being unnatural, so he had to carry her. Mike ends up having to carry me and he carried me every time. So you really get to see the the love and labor mix in this film. Yeah, yeah.
00:58:57
Speaker
That's great. And she takes a big hit. like It's almost like a Lawrence Taylor type tackle that she takes. I was really impressed by that. It was great. Anything for the combat credit on my resume, Tom. Anything. Yeah, yeah. That was amazing. That was amazing. but What else can I do here to oh, that's a check. That's a check. Yeah, yeah.
00:59:21
Speaker
right, Michael, your turn, sir.

Collaborative Spirit Behind 'Bitter Souls'

00:59:24
Speaker
All right, well, if you want a fun film, if you want a movie with a soul in it, you know, it might blow corn and bitter souls, but this movie has a soul to it, you know? And we worked really hard on it. There's a lot of great performances, and I can't really emphasize this enough. Like, everybody in the film who worked on it was so talented, and I had such a great honor working with everybody.
00:59:41
Speaker
So, yeah, it would just be would mean the world to me, and I'm sure everybody else didn involved in the film. And, yeah, just you'll have fun. I promise. Yeah, yeah. All right, come on. back yes the pop martin watching the film The movie had just about everything. You had had death.
01:00:01
Speaker
You have somebody coming back from the dead. You had love. You have bullies. You have clowns. you have You have... You almost had a rave scene or something going on. so we have we haven't got You got a lot of stuff. and and you got comedy.
01:00:21
Speaker
You got, I mean, the lead actress, I mean, her smile is, ah the one time I seen it, it was like, it it was evil.
01:00:32
Speaker
mean, just the way she did it, it was evil. Yeah, that was Adriana Rose, and yeah, Adriana was great. Adriana was great lead. Yeah, yeah, um we did have a ah great mix of different elements in that film and again credit to the writers and credit to all the actors for bringing all these characters to life what what what i love about the film and what i love working about these actors and and to kind of emphasize something that destiny had said the reason i kind of step back is i i like to see actors do what they do and and do their craft and take ownership of these characters and for me that's what's so fun about the movie is that we have so many
01:01:11
Speaker
talented performers in so many vastly different character types um and they all kind of just gel um you know i've i've i've seen a little bit of ah pushback in the film about the priest the um the late carl barbie who is a wonderful actor um uh who played uh father o'reilly um and people we get a little pushback about him working with malette and a voodoo uh uh you witch and They're basically can contesting that idea that that could be possible. And I think what they miss is the part in the movie where he talks about his sister dying and how Millette offered to...
01:01:54
Speaker
help her with with with magic. And he had turned it down at that time. And now he was kind of regretting it. And there was a, there was, so it's, we we set this up and, but it's just like, again, it's just a really great juxtaposition of these types of different characters yeah working together. it's It's really what makes the movie so much fun.
01:02:14
Speaker
And, you know, it was so fun to work with all the actors in that sense as well.

Unexpected Local Delights

01:02:20
Speaker
And then the burger from the bowling alley. And the burger. and those two made it no make that film man yeah if you wouldn't have got fed that night and and you wouldn't got fed good food do you think you could could could have went to set the next day feeling okay to to shoot or would you have been like oh no dude we're going to get some good breakfast like I've shot plenty on on bad food, and I don't mean this film. like I just mean over the course of my career. I've shot plenty of days after eating terribly. I can say that as well, yes. Food poisoning, what else do you talk about?
01:03:02
Speaker
Bitter Souls has everything. i love it so much. All right, guys. Well, listen, we have come to the end of the show. And we wanted to take a minute just to thank you all for being a part of the growing Talking Shit family.
