um So today, going to look at this in three stages. First, I'm going to go through the life of zan Patrick. I'm going go through it quite quickly because I know I did talk about it back in June.

And I shared it with a very particular reason back then. um Then I'm going to briefly talk about how what happened then is the prophetic narrative for what is happening today.

and And then I'm going to share with you some prophetic words that and people have given regards in revival in Ireland and as it pertains to the UK over last decade or so.

Alright, so this is Ireland. Isn't she gorgeous, ladies and gentlemen? and This is the island I'm blessed to call home. All these places are pretty much in my back garden. Because in Ireland, it's hard to drive four hours any direction without ending up in the sea, an ocean, or a lake. and Way back in ancient times...

Ireland was so densely forested, there were forests literally anywhere you could possibly go, that a red squirrel, or native squirrel, could literally travel all the way from the far east of the country to the far west of the country just by jumping on the treetops.

In fact, about 11, 12 years ago, um Some beach goers got a little bit surprised when they started seeing leaves and branches poking up from underneath the sand. So all the archaeologists ran to the area and all the historians, and they realized that there was actually an entire forest underneath the beach. um We're called the Emerald Island, the Green Island today, but ah we were even greener in the past.
Ancient Irish Traditions and Samhain

In ancient Ireland, i the Celts, and even those who existed here before the Celts, celebrated Samhain. Samhain is now called Halloween. and And it was one of their main festivals where they believed that the walls between worlds were at their thinnest.

And fairies, demons, and the Headless Horsemen, the Pooka, the Spook, the ghosts, could cross over from the spirit realm into the natural realm.

And we have a museum in Dublin. It's actually my favorite museum. And we have a section called the Bog Bodies section, which shows the most brutal, disgusting atrocities in the ancient world. It tells you...

how the people were killed, what age they probably were, what their diet probably was, what their class probably was. and how they were killed, how they were tortured before they were killed, and why they think they were killed. And some of them are actually understood to have been seven sacrifices. Perhaps killed in the hope of bringing forth, or repelling, satisfying the bloodlust of certain demons from other worlds.

The Roman Empire and also said that the Celts in Ireland celebrated with the wickermen. The wickermen was a humanoid structure made out of wood that they would put humans inside of and set them on fire, burning them to death.

And then there was the tlacta. The Tracta was a massive bonfire, and people were basically forced to go there. They were forced to actively participate in the witchcraft ceremony. It was called a bonfire because bones were put in it.

And they had to offer up a sacrifice into the fire onto the gods of ancient Ireland. Anyone who did not participate would be punished, even exiled.

And it was actually illegal for people to light their own fire in their own homes. They had to attend this one. And they were told, oh, well, you can go to this one, that you know, get a stick of flame and I'll go all the back to your home and light your fire. as if that was ever going to happen.

It was coerced participation under the threat of being fined or exiled.

People believed so strongly that on Samhain, the demons would cross over from Otherworld that they began to dress up as demons themselves or as animals in the hope that the actual demons would not recognize that they were human and would leave them be.

Or they would put food outside of their homes and hope to their heart's cont content that the demons would eat whatever was outside their front door and leave them be.

This still happens today. we call it trick or treating. The idea of dressing up as the very thing that you fear in the hope that no one will throw eggs at your front door.

So our story today is going to take place in the early AD. Back then, it was taught by the elite, the leaders of society, that the earth was a flat disk.

And the understanding was that Ireland, which they called Scotia, not to be confused with Scotland, but it did cause some confusion. Ireland was called Hibernia or Scotia, not Ireland. Hibernia or Scotia.

And the understanding was that Ireland was the very last country on the flat disc earth. Once you got to Ireland, perhaps you arrived and i'm not in a land that went on and on and on and on and on and on and never ended.

Little did they know. Or maybe you would arrive in a land, go to the west and fall off into outer space because you'd fall off the flat earth disk.

Some of them said, well, if Ireland is at the very edge of the civilization, its people must be at the very edge of civility. Perhaps they're not even human.

Perhaps they're actually more like hybrids, half animal or half demon.
Christianity's Early Days in Ireland

Now, Pope Clementine sent a Bible teacher, Palladius, to Ireland in 431. Again, we were not called Ireland or the Irish. We were called the Scotty, Scotcha.

He was sent to the Scotty believing in Christ. So there are already some Christians here. Maybe God had spoken to them in dreams and visions. I'm sure some people had come across the sea with the word of God.

But Palladius served in Scotia for a couple of years, but he found it very, very hard to actually penetrate through to the people, to get the word of God through to the people.

ah A big part of it was probably a linguistic barrier. He probably didn't speak Gwaelga, our first language.

um He received opposition from many sides. One of them was the High King of Leinster. Leinster is my province. Ireland has four provinces. Leinster is the biggest province. It's the one in the east.

And the King of Leinster actually banished him. And then Palladius hightailed it out of Scotia and he went to Pictland. Pictland is, of course, now called Scotland. So ministerially, there has always been a connection between Ireland and Scotland in a spiritual level. I believe God has always wanted...

the British Isles, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, England, to spiritually, not politically, spiritually, and support each other and build one another up, encourage one another, create something amazing and very unique and significant among all the other nations. I've always believed that. Historically, we can see that Ireland and Scotland in particular have always had a very, um...

organic crossover. And even one of our main tourist attractions is called the Giant's Causeway. That's a really fun origin story that I might share at some point. and But a lot of people actually believe that these hexagonal stones, thousands thousands of them, they're unique, and probably connected Ireland to Scotland in the past.

after the great flood, that there was probably a natural land bridge between Ireland and Scotland, which may also explain why we were called Scotia and then it became called Scotland.

and So God has always wanted a very special spiritual connection between these places.

So that's the context into which St. Patrick would come to Ireland. An Ireland of Druids, an Ireland of Witchcraft, an Ireland of Human Traffickers, and aylola in Ireland and of forced participation in the demonic.

Patrick's Confessio. A confessio doesn't mean confession as in an apology.

It means a confession of praise, a confession and of honoring God in all his glory. um And then he wrote another one called Epistola, or a letter to Caroticus. They are in the public domain. You can read them for free.

They're 1,600 years old. No one's going to give out to you for breaking the law. Did you read them online? They're there for public consumption for a reason. um And his writings are the oldest bibliographical manuscripts we have found on the island. Christianity brought literature to Ireland. We used to have a very strong oral tradition. We still do.

But Ireland's writing culture really came from Christianity.

So in the four hundred and thirty s the Roman Empire, Rome sent ships to Ireland. They never colonized us. The Roman Empire was collapsing. It was falling down around its ears.

and Now, much of Britain had been taken over by the Roman Empire, but like Wales and England, Ireland never had. Now, in...

We assume it was Wales. Some part of Britain, we assume it was Wales. There was a family of deacons, multi-generational church leaders, and this is the family into which Patrick was born.

Now, he writes in his own book that when he was 15, he lived a very antisocial life. His father was a Bible teacher, his grandfather had been a Bible teacher, but he himself had absolutely no interest in Jesus, no real knowledge of Jesus, no revelation knowledge of Jesus.

He was rebellious toward the word of Jesus. um This has led some people to suspect that that his father and grandfather may not even have been saved.

They may have just become Bible teachers because you didn't have to pay taxes if you were a Bible teacher. Maybe, possibly. Some might say it's a good incentive. It's not a holy incentive. Some might say it's a good incentive economically. um So Patrick had no interest in the word of God.

And on one occasion, his family was attacked by Nile of the Nine Hostages. Nile of the Nine Hostages was an Irish pirate lord.

So the Irish would send ships to different countries, in this case, Wales, and they would attack wealthy families.

Now, what made Patrick's family so wealthy? Well, Britain had been colonized by the Roman Empire. So fa Patrick's family was probably Roman Welsh.

We'll say Roman Britain anyway. where they had lived in Britain for generation after generation, but there was definitely Roman blood in him.

and So with that kind of wealth, power, position, prestige, he came from a wealthy family. His family had servants, and Nile of the Nine Hostages was drawn to this. They murdered some members of Patrick's household. They kidnapped a lot of people there as slaves. And Patrick was one that they took as slave.

Again, some people say, well, we know he'd lived a very anti-social rebellious life. Some people suspect maybe he had fallen drunk asleep. And that's why he wasn't able to run away when his family was attacked by the pirates.

We don't know, but people like guessing.

He was sold as a slave in Ireland, somewhere in the north of the country. and Some people think it was the northeast. I'm in the northeast, but even further north.

Some people suspect the northwest. We know it was somewhere in the northern area. And he was 16 when he was kidnapped. He remained in bondage for six years until he was 22 years old.

Sometimes he had clothes. Sometimes he didn't. Sometimes he had food. Sometimes he didn't. Sometimes he had water. Sometimes he didn't.

and But in those days of slavery, in those days of loneliness where he had to become a shepherd and watch over someone else's animals, someone else's livestock, that is when he said, OK, I'm going to get serious about my faith.

I'm going to actually develop a relationship with the Lord. And he began to pray up to 100 times a day and up to 100 times at night. He was always in conference with the Lord and the Lord spoke back.

Patrick was a prophetic dreamer. And on one occasion, the Lord gave him a dream and said, Patrick, soon and very soon, i am going to set you free.
Patrick's Slavery and Return to Britain

So Patrick got incredibly excited. After this, he began to ready himself. And then a number of weeks later, he had another dream. And in that dream, he saw ship.

Now, that ship was probably about 200 miles from where he was. The ship would have been in the southeast. um And the Lord told him, OK, go to this ship, get on that ship. It will take you home to Britain. It will take you home to Wales.

So Patrick then picked up his very few belongings and began walking on foot all the way to the southeast of Ireland until he saw this ship. It was a treacherous journey.

Ireland back then was divided up between the High King, who's the king over all the country, the kings of the provinces, kinglets, minor kings, and chieftains.

Celtic society was built on hierarchy upon hierarchy upon hierarchy upon hierarchy. And he made this journey the whole way down to the southeast until eventually he saw the very ship he had dreamt He couldn't believe it.

He said, Thank you, Jesus! So he began running toward the ship. And then all of a sudden, he felt a hand on his shoulder.

Shaking, Patrick turned around. And it was the captain. And the captain said, Who do you think you are? And where do you think you are going?

And the journey for Patrick on foot had been so dangerous because if you were a slave and you were caught, you could literally be sent back to your master or killed.

So here he's like, ah I was a slave for six years, but I want to go home. Please let me on your ship. And the captain said, no Not a chance.

So Patrick at this point was very, very confused and very troubled. He said, but God, you gave me a dream. I saw a ship. I saw that ship. And maybe you've had a situation in your life where God has said something to you and it just felt like it was within reach and it all slipped through your fingers.

So he turned around and he said, God, help. He just felt woebegone, disturbed. And next thing, some men shouted at him, hey, the captain's changed his mind.

Get on. And Patrick was like, yes, thank you, Jesus. So again, he runs toward the ship. And again, the captain said that. You can get on the ship, but you have to do something first.

If you have children in the room, send them out for 10 seconds. The pe captain unbuttoned his shirt and said, you can get on my ship. But first you have to suck my nipple.

I know it sounds crazy. It was 1600 years ago. Don't judge my country. This was that was normal in the 400s. It was your way of showing submission and

fidelity to those who are over you. And Patrick goes, yeah, yeah, I'm a Christian. I'm not going to do that. Sorry. No. Jesus Christ did not die for me so I can be this carry on. That happened. and I'll go back to being his slave. And the captain buttoned his shirt and said, get on, you rascal.

So Patrick got on the ship and sailed back to and Britain, back to Wales. And things looked to be an upward trajectory. However,

They had had an extra mouth to feed. They'd had an extra passenger that they had not expected. And of course, what happens when you have a lot of men together on a boat?

They're gonna gobble up the food. The food runs out. The men get hungry. The men get angry. And as they were marching through the wilderness towards their respective homes, Patrick said, it's okay.

I'll pray to Jesus. And the captain and his men said, if you talk about Jesus one more time, you're going to meet him. you hear me? And Patrick still prayed, God, please feed us, send us food miraculously.

And next thing, a family of wild pigs ran out in front of them. The men killed the pigs, then ate the pigs, and they said, hmm, maybe he's not so crazy after all.

However, they did not. OK, they praised the Lord that night, but they did not become Christians and turn their lives around because at the very first opportunity that they had, they sold him into slavery again.
Miraculous Freedom in Wales

This time he was a slave in Wales and the very first night of his imprisonment, the Lord spoke to him and said, Patrick.

Soon and very soon I will set you free. Just give me a month and a half. Exactly six weeks later, he was released for apparently no reason.

He continued on his way home and one night he said he had an experience so horrific and so terrible he would not forget it as long as he lived.

where he said Satan himself descended upon him in the dark hours to murder him. He could not breathe. He could not speak. He could not move. He said it was like a mountain was crushing him.

And Patrick was terrified. He couldn't breathe. He couldn't catch his breath, couldn't speak. But eventually, you know that when you have that moment, when you just get the name of the Lord in your mind,

And he goes, Helios. Helios is the Greek word for son. Think of Jesus as the son of righteousness. And as soon as the word got out of his lips, Satan fled.

So Patrick continues on home to Wales and his family could not believe their eyes. They could not actually believe anything. Oh my goodness, he's alive. It's been six years, but there he is standing in front of us right now.

to Patrick decided to become a Bible teacher. He loved the Lord. He loved the word of God. And he went to France to or Gaul, it was go back then, to study the word of God.

While he was there, he made a particular friend. And Patrick had had beautiful experiences with Jesus, but he'd actually carried around a lot of fear and a lot of shame, especially from his teenage years.

when he was a 15-year-old scoundrel, scallywag, whatever it was he had been up to, he never says in his book what exactly it was. Whether it was drinking, whether it was bad manners, whether he was chasing after every young woman.

Some people say he was a murderer of adultery. People have great imaginations, no one actually knows. But when he was 15, he had done something wicked.

And it had really deeply disturbed him. It had wounded his soul and he had carried the shame around for years and years and years. But at Bible college, his friend said, Patrick, you're a son of God.

It's all been forgiven. You are good with God. Shut the door. Let it go. it is over. You are free. You're a new creation.

And finally, Patrick was actually able to shut that door and to go about freely in his journey with Jesus as a new creation, as justified, just as if he'd never sinned, as righteous, as right with God, in reconciliation relationship with him.

So Patrick returned to Wales, began teaching the word of God there, but not long past before he had another dream, a vision in a dream.

Here, a man came to him in a dream, and the man's name was Victoricus. Victoricus was a martyr. He had served the Lord diligently and had been murdered for his faith.

And Victoricus handed him scrolls. Patrick opened up the scrolls and he's heard a voice. We are the people of Ireland. We are dying.

God is sending you to us with the gospel. That might sound a little bit crazy, but hey, we even see this happen in the Bible.

Moses was dead when he spoke to Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration. Elijah had been raptured when he spoke to Jesus on the same day. Samuel was dead when he told Saul, you and your sons are going to join me in the graves this time tomorrow.

We should never seek out divination or talk to dead people. But in his sovereignty, there is a ba but a biblical precedent where God can actually lower the veil and send someone who's dead to you with a prophetic message.

So Patrick told his church this and they said, do you have like Stockholm syndrome? You cray cray. These people are wicked. These people made you a slave for like more than half a decade.

And you're going to go back and tell me, Jesus, are you are you on a suicide mission? And Patrick said, hey, God told me to do it. I have to do it.

So some people decided to come along with him on the journey. Not too many, but but some did. And his church congregation gave them money to finance their mission. So Patrick came to Ireland with his ministry team.

And they actually used quite a lot of the money and to help them navigate through the politics of ancient Ireland.

Like I said, you had the High King, the kings of provinces, the kinglets, the chieftains. Money talks. People are people. There's nothing new under the sun. People have always been the same.

Patrick would go to the chieftains first and say, hi there. I'd like to talk to your people about my gods. His name is Jesus. He's absolutely brilliant. Would that be okay?

And if they said, sure, what's one more god in our pantheon? Off you go Great. If they said no, they will worship the god Lou. They will worship the Dagada. They will worship the Morrigan, the goddess of faith, death and destruction.

Patrick would reach into his money bag, give them some gold and say, thank you for saying yes. And then he would go preach the gospel. that but It's not bribery if you do it for the Lord, people.

He is innocent as a dove and as crafty as a snake. patric Patrick knew his Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. He was good.

And what happened thereafter was Christianity exploded in Ireland. Why did Patrick succeed where Palladius had failed?

Well, we have no reason to believe Palladius spoke a word of Gaelge. Whereas Patrick had lived here for six years. He knew the Irish language. He knew the Irish character.

He knew the Irish traditions. He knew the Irish obstacles. and He knew and how Irish people had worshipped false gods.

So he used that inside knowledge to give him specific tools and strategies to navigate the mission field. That's why we're doing this today. Yeah. That's why we're having two and a half weeks of prayer specifically for the revival at 6 a.m. every morning before the revival takes place. It's all about being spiritually strategic.

Holy Spirit led, but there's no excuse for ignorance. So Patrick and his team began to create Christian communities.

they work They created effectively universities before anyone else had them. where they would teach people the word of God. They would teach people how to read and write.

It was like social welfare before social welfare or was a thing. If you were sick or in need, they looked after to you. They also created round towers, 100 meters tall, some of which you can still go into around the nation.

and You might see, if you look very closely, the front door is not on the ground. the front door is up there. That means that if evil kinglets or chieftains came to murder you, you would put up a ladder.

You and your men, women, and children would climb to the top. Get in lift up your ladder, around a staircase to the top, and you could hide there and be totally protected while they destroyed and pillaged the rest of your community.
