Nice one.

Introduction to David's Journey

00:00:08
Speaker
All right guys, so 2 Samuel chapter 7. We're gonna look at one chapter today and one Sam. And this is, these are the quite happy ones actually. Some things that happened David, sorry, is it? Yeah, it's one. Yeah.
00:00:23
Speaker
One chapter and one Sam. and David's life has incredible highs and tragic lows. and Overall, this chapter is really happy. Nice one, actually. It's quite a field of one.

David's Reflection and Divine Message

00:00:37
Speaker
And it really looks at Jesus in great detail, even in the Old Testament. and So, Ramos, will you please read 2 Samuel 7, verse 1, down to verse 10, please.
00:00:56
Speaker
ten it Okay. When the king had settled into his place and the Lord had given him rest on every side from all his enemies, the king said to the prophet Nathan, look, I am living in a setter house while the ark of God sits inside tense curtains.
00:01:22
Speaker
So Nathan told the king, go and do all that is on your mind for the Lord is with you. that night the word of the Lord came to Nathan, go to my servant David and say, this is what the Lord says, are you to build me ah house to dwell in?
00:01:49
Speaker
From the time I brought the Israelites out of Egypt until today i have not dwelled in the house, instead I have been moving around with a tent as my dwelling.
00:02:04
Speaker
In all my journeys with all the Israelites have I ever spoken a word to one of the tribal leaders of Israel whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, asking, why haven't you built me a house of seder?
00:02:27
Speaker
So now this is what you are to say to my servant David. This is what the Lord of army says. I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock to be a ruler over my people Israel.
00:02:44
Speaker
have been with you forever you have wherever you have gone and i have destroyed all your enemies before you i will make a great name for you like that of the greatest of the earth will designate a place for my people israel and plant them so that they may live there and not be disturbed again.
00:03:13
Speaker
Evil doers will not continue to oppress them as they have done. yeah and you can read verse 11 as well, actually. i forget that one bit Yeah, that's right.
00:03:26
Speaker
Ever since the day I ordered judges to be over my people Israel, I will give you rest from all your enemies. The Lord declares to the Lord himself will make a house of you.
00:03:44
Speaker
Lovely. Thank you so much, Ram. the long um Good job.
00:03:49
Speaker
All right.

David's Desire to Build a Temple

00:03:50
Speaker
So basically, at this point, David's palace is complete. And he's a king and he's living in his palace. But he's not sitting there, you know, kicking back, feet up, margarita in one hand. a Bailey's on ice in the other, thinking, my life's amazing, I'm gonna do nothing for the rest of my days.
00:04:12
Speaker
Instead, he's thinking, ugh, I'm a human, and I'm living in a pallet. The Ark of God, and we saw last week just how much time and effort it took to get the Ark back, the golden box in which a layer of God's presence resided, that was in the tent of meeting.
00:04:34
Speaker
It was in tent. And he just said, this is bad. I'm living in a palace and God is in a tent. The horror.
00:04:45
Speaker
And he just said, no, this is not right. And he says, I need to build a house for God. He's talking building a temple. He's talking about building an absolutely enormous structure worthy of the presence of God.
00:05:01
Speaker
Now, notice God doesn't say no, okay? He just says, I've never lived in a house. And it's important God doesn't say no because a temple does get built by David's son later on. um So God's not saying don't build me a house.
00:05:21
Speaker
But he is saying,

Prophecy of the Temple

00:05:22
Speaker
I've never lived in one. Your people were in the wilderness for 40 years running around. i went wherever they went.
00:05:32
Speaker
Wherever that tent went. I followed on with us and In the days when your people were getting it so right, in the days your people were getting it so wrong, that's where I've been.
00:05:48
Speaker
So eventually a temple will be built. And it happens literally in the reign of David's son. David prepares all the materials and his son builds it.
00:06:02
Speaker
But it shows great humility on David's part, actually. That he's not sitting in his palace now thinking that he's he is a god, that he's amazing.
00:06:16
Speaker
Instead, he looks at everything he has and says, God deserves more. God deserves bigger. God deserves better.
00:06:27
Speaker
God deserves greater. He's not looking inwardly. He's looking externally.
00:06:36
Speaker
He's not giving himself a pat on the back. Well done, kid. You killed Goliath. You didn't let Saul kill you. Happy days. He's thinking God is the one who has saved me and my people from all our troubles.
00:06:51
Speaker
He deserves everything I am and have. And he deserves far more than I do.
00:07:02
Speaker
Hello, how
00:07:16
Speaker
are you?
00:07:22
Speaker
oh hello katy have a yeah yeah through good thing ay hello hello how are you I'm pretty good. Yeah, nice to meet jeffiny for that a cool story yeah right you. all right there. several that are No, I'm sorry, that's it.
00:07:48
Speaker
Sorry, we missed the turn on all over the way. See, things happen, no worries. No, you're fine, you're all right. Okay. absolutely okay Even when I drive those away, i actually always have Google Maps on. I think the 14 is a very easy one to drive by. exactly. It's like invisible, yeah.
00:08:07
Speaker
Okay, you're fine, you're fine. ah Don't worry about it.
00:08:12
Speaker
All right, guys, and as I was reading this this morning, got a very strong sense that in verse 10,
00:08:25
Speaker
God has something specific for his children so today. And highlighters here, okay, if you want to highlight any Bible verses or anything, all right?
00:08:37
Speaker
And pens, if want to take any notes. stepping Yep, go for it.
00:08:50
Speaker
So verse 10 and 11, I will provide a place for my people at Israel and will plant them so they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed.
00:09:04
Speaker
Wicked people will not suppress them anymore as they did at the beginning. I will give them rest from their enemies.
00:09:17
Speaker
Now God is speaking very specifically to his people at that time, so long as they would behave and follow his commandments. But as I was reading this this morning, I felt very, very strongly that is a promise for its people today in the Jotter generation and under the sound of my voice.
00:09:33
Speaker
I'll provide a place for my people. i will plant them so they have a home of their own and are no longer disturbed. Wicked people will not suppress them anymore.
00:09:48
Speaker
I will give you rest from all your enemies. So underline, highlight, circle, draw a star, an asterisk. I got a very strong sense that has something in there for you to Would you say that that's a corporate promise or that's a personal?
00:10:04
Speaker
Great question. So in the context, Ramis, he's talking about a specific nation on the whole, the whole people. But as I was reading this morning, I got a very, very, very strong sense that that is a verse he wants people to appropriate in their lives today.
00:10:22
Speaker
Yeah. So for you to take hold of that and say yes and amen. Yes and amen. Because ah when when I was reading and I thought you said before,
00:10:36
Speaker
and And now that's send is just like, yes, like information, you know, just popped m out. Yeah. amen No, good. Well, that that's confirmation then. good Good.
00:10:51
Speaker
what How is it and for us? add i would Is it not the nation or Israel? In the context here, he's talking to...
00:11:04
Speaker
and David, and who was a righteous king, and was saying, so long as your nation. Because back then Israel was the only nation who actually had the word of God.
00:11:16
Speaker
And he was telling them, if you live rightly, you will have freedom, you'll have peace, you'll be blessed, you'll have prosperity. And it was the job of the nation of Israel to spread the word of God outwardly.
00:11:33
Speaker
That continued up until the 12 apostles and in the book of Acts. A lot of people read the book of Acts and they say, oh wow, it's such an amazing story. Look at the word of God spreading. But to be honest with you, by the time the book of Acts ends, the 12 apostles are doing a pretty good job.
00:11:51
Speaker
But actually, it's the leaders of the nation of Israel who actually are trying to suppress the gospel. And then that's when the apostle Paul says, you know what? Screw it. I'm washing my hands of you.
00:12:02
Speaker
And that's when revelation came to the Gentile, to the other nations, to work back inward. and So there are certain promises the Old Testament which were specific to those people, specific to that time, specific to that nation.
00:12:19
Speaker
But the word of God is the living word. And that's how you can read through it. And something just jumps out at you. And you're like, that's for me. That's for me.

Promises of 2 Samuel 7:10-11

00:12:29
Speaker
And as I was reading this this morning, I got a very, very strong sense that God was saying claim verses 10 and 11 over your life today.
00:12:38
Speaker
yeah We are part of the kingdom. are part of the kingdom. We are part of the kingdom. Even better, the heavenly kingdom. Yeah. But better still. Better still.
00:12:49
Speaker
And it's prophetic about the nation of Israel being established. You know, 1949. Isn't it? was But see, the reality is, in at the end of the Apocalypse, Revelation 19 does say that Jesus will come back to the nation of Israel to defeat the Antichrist and the armies of evil.
00:13:13
Speaker
So does the state of Israel always get it right? No human does.

Prophecy of David's Offspring

00:13:18
Speaker
Are they capable of great evil? Well, let's look at Jeffrey Epstein. But the reality is...
00:13:25
Speaker
when other nations try to obliterate it, it is an anti-Christ agenda because what they're trying to do, they're trying to stop Jesus from coming back to it. So, yeah.
00:13:36
Speaker
Yeah. All
00:13:41
Speaker
right, then let's have a look at verse 12. twelve and Lisa, will you please read verses 12 to 17?
00:14:16
Speaker
I'm not sure speaking, but we can't hear you.
00:14:28
Speaker
Okay, Lisa, there's no volume coming out of your microphone, but that's okay. We'll get someone else, all right? Kitty, will you please do it, actually? Will you please read verses 12 to 17? From the faith area? yeah, yeah. it So, when your days are over.
00:14:47
Speaker
The Lord has said, once time is a heart for you. Your days are over, and you rest with your ancestors. I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish the kingdom.
00:15:05
Speaker
He is the one who will build a house by my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. will be his father, and he will be my son. When he goes wrong, will punish him with with droppings infected by human hands.
00:15:24
Speaker
But my love will never be taken away from him. As I took it away and so on and i remain from from his voice. Your hearts and your kingdom will endure forever before me.
00:15:38
Speaker
Your throne will be established forever.
00:15:43
Speaker
Amen. Nathan poured to David all the words of this entire revelation. Amen. So ladies, Catherine, just reminding me, just so you know, I'm recording the teaching element, okay? Because of today, that I'll put on YouTube afterwards so you can even see the part you missed.
00:16:01
Speaker
All right, guys. Pay very close attention here. So this message is being given to David. And if the Lord declares to you that the Lord himself will establish a house for you, when your days are over and you're dead and you're asked to ancestors,
00:16:18
Speaker
I'll raise up your offspring to succeed you. Your own flesh and blood, I'll establish his kingdom. Look at words like this, though. Kingdom.
00:16:32
Speaker
The throne of his kingdom forever.
00:16:37
Speaker
Father. My son.
00:16:43
Speaker
a rod.
00:16:46
Speaker
Loggings.
00:16:50
Speaker
Your kingdom will endure forever. Established forever.
00:16:57
Speaker
David did have a son, Solomon, who would sit on the throne. However, there is absolutely zero biblical evidence that anybody ever flogged Solomon.
00:17:12
Speaker
There's like one instance I can think of where an other kingdom rose up against him temporarily. But in terms of getting flogged, which is getting beaten, getting whipped, didn't happen.
00:17:29
Speaker
So who is actually being prophesied about here? We've got father, we've got son, we've got forever, we've got throne, got kingdom, we've got flogging, which means being hit by whips.
00:17:40
Speaker
Who is he actually prophesying? Jesus, exactly.
00:17:46
Speaker
And this is how prophecy can operate on multiple levels. Because when David first heard this, he probably assumed it was his own son. And then it kind of goes on and you're like forever. Well, Solomon did not live forever.
00:18:02
Speaker
He's dead. And biblically, no one beat him with whips. So what's actually happening here is God is speaking to the prophet Nathan to give the message to David regarding Jesus himself.

Jesus' Suffering and Kingdom

00:18:19
Speaker
And we know that Because in the New Testament, it actually harkens back to the story. And it says the son is greater than the angel.
00:18:33
Speaker
For God never said to any angel what he said to Jesus. You're my son. Today I reveal you as my son. God also said, i will be his father.
00:18:47
Speaker
and he will be my son. So this is the New Testament talking about this Old Testament story and highlighting that actually it's talking about Jesus himself.
00:19:01
Speaker
If you're taking your notes, I will put the PowerPoint to the WhatsApp chat afterwards, but even just write Hebrews 1.5. And then when you get home, I'd encourage you to write the verse in full.
00:19:13
Speaker
It's just that when he goes wrong, I would permit him. But he didn't do wrong. He didn't, but he took on all the wrong that people have ever committed. Yeah, exactly.
00:19:26
Speaker
the The deep spiritual truth hidden in a mystery. Exactly.
00:19:34
Speaker
right, then we have in Matthew 26, 67. Again, we just write down the citation, write the verse in full later on.
00:19:44
Speaker
This is just after Jesus has been arrested in the middle of the night. And it's a show trial. He's literally on trial at nighttime, illegally.
00:19:55
Speaker
And no two witnesses can get the same story straight. It's the most embarrassing mock trial of all time. it's said that they began to spit in Jesus' face.
00:20:12
Speaker
and beat him with their fists and some slapped him.
00:20:33
Speaker
Is that a house for my name? Is that the New Jerusalem? very deeper Brought to fullness. Yeah. Yeah.
00:20:47
Speaker
Yeah.
00:20:50
Speaker
Then we've got Matthew 27, 30. And they spit on him and grabbed the stick and struck him on the head with it.
00:21:02
Speaker
So it just as Nathan is getting this prophecy that he'll be punished with a rod wielded by men, with a stick wielded by men, with a club wielded by men, they physically assaulted him.
00:21:17
Speaker
beat him to a pulp.
00:21:48
Speaker
and then john nineteen one then then Pontius Pilate had Jesus, bear the word again, clogged with a lead-tipped whip.
00:22:14
Speaker
He was given 40 lashes, his back would have been absolutely shredded, and then a wooden cross was the lungs on top of it afterwards. internal organs, some of them were probably visible after all this happened, when the Romans had beaten him up with the whips.
00:22:50
Speaker
Then Hebrews 5, 7 to 8 expands on this in more detail. It says, while Jesus was here on earth, and again, this is just the New Testament, explaining more about the Old Testament, scripture, interpret scripture.
00:23:05
Speaker
He offered prayers and pleadings with a loud cry and tears. Usually when people picture Jesus or see paintings of him, he's just really, really...
00:23:17
Speaker
emotionless, or he might have a little smile on his face, but actually he's kind of a one-dimensional bland smiler. he had a very deep emotional range. And he would pray to the Lord. He would plead with the Lord. There'd be loud cries. There would be tears.
00:23:35
Speaker
And he offered them up to his father, to the one who could rescue him from death.
00:23:42
Speaker
And God heard Jesus' prayers because of his deep reverence for God. And even though Jesus was God's son, he learned obedience. Obedience means discipline in the Greek.
00:24:00
Speaker
It means a conscious, willing submission. Jesus knew why he was coming to the earth. He knew he was coming to die. It wasn't like he was born of a baby and then 33 years later, or God was like, psych!
00:24:16
Speaker
He knew what was happening.
00:24:19
Speaker
It means attentive hearkening to the word of God. Whatever the will of God was, he was willing to go there.
00:24:30
Speaker
It means active compliance. He knew exactly what he was doing and he did it for love. It also means entraining from the things that he suffered.
00:24:53
Speaker
If you think of a candle, it's got three parts. It's got a wax, a wick, and a flame. And think of human beings have three parts.
00:25:04
Speaker
You've body, you have a soul, you've got a spirit. When Adam and Eve sinned, the plane was blown out. The spirit died straight away.
00:25:17
Speaker
And the soul got all its issues and the body began to get sicknesses and diseases and to die and to get wounds and cuts and tumors.
00:25:30
Speaker
Diabetes.
00:25:35
Speaker
No human could ever live perfectly enough. to be right with God again.
00:25:44
Speaker
So Jesus, God and Holy Spirit knew that there was only one thing that could fix the problem at the heart of humanity.

Jesus' Sacrifice for Humanity

00:25:52
Speaker
but The problem the heart of humanity was the human heart.
00:25:57
Speaker
And Jesus said, okay, I'll go. I will go in a physical body with a perfect soul and a perfect spirit.
00:26:07
Speaker
But he is a judge. And if any of you have ever been in a court case and you have seen someone who was wicked and the judge just let them go, what happens? It grates your teeth.
00:26:20
Speaker
You go, how is this possible? You pop a vein. You're like, this is not right. This is injustice. This is a scam. You exist to do justice in the land.
00:26:32
Speaker
So sin had to be punished. Evil had to be punished. But Jesus said, well, I don't. We don't wanna punish humans, we love humans. So he said, okay, I'll take the punishment.
00:26:47
Speaker
I'll take the brunt of it. I will live the life no one else has ever lived. I will live the life everyone has chosen not to live. But then I will take all of their evil on myself, all of their wickedness, all of their selfishness, all of their perversion,
00:27:09
Speaker
all their abominable acts, all the things that are shameful to even speak of, the good, the bad, and the ugly, the small, the things we excuse in ourselves, the things we excuse in others, the things that make us go crazy.
00:27:25
Speaker
He took all that in himself, and he was punished by God. If you think that what the people did to him was bad, and it was, God poured out the full punishment of all evil on Jesus on the cross.
00:27:40
Speaker
If you ever seen The Passion of the Christ, it's an amazing movie. But obviously it focuses very much on the physical, external experience of Jesus. It's kind of hard to show the spiritual in a movie like that.
00:27:52
Speaker
But the spiritual torment he experienced was far worse than what he experienced in the natural. And that was wicked. What happened was, it killed him.
00:28:05
Speaker
And he went down into hell and he dropped all of our sin there. And he had a very exciting and very adventurous three days, which we'll look at of at Easter time. he was raised again and in three days time in brand new life, a resurrected body that could walk through walls, can teleport, can fly.
00:28:26
Speaker
and he offers that resurrection power to each of his kids now.
00:28:35
Speaker
So to answer your question, Ernie Kitsy, which is a great one, it's like, well, Jesus never sinned. He never did wrong. So how could he flogged? Because he took our sin. Because God's options were, I can flog every single of them.
00:28:49
Speaker
Or I can do it once for all time and end it at that. And that's how we become children of God. On the basis of belief in what Jesus did on the cross.
00:29:00
Speaker
For those who choose to give a middle finger, well They're going to have suffer the torment for their own sins when they die. boy. Isn't that great? and Isn't that great? It's the most bizarre and wonderful exchange, Ramis. You can be the scummiest, most wicked version of yourself.
00:29:25
Speaker
Price- yeah and simply by saying Jesus I believe in what you did i believe you did it for me, I receive you the forgiveness, you offer um if you say the debt is paid okay i'm not gonna play second time and boom the slides wash clean. David Price- it's just phenomenal phenomenal.
00:29:45
Speaker
David Price- It in this.
00:29:49
Speaker
And then Hebrews 5.14, again, obedience,

Spiritual Maturity and Discernment

00:29:53
Speaker
one of those means is training. says solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.
00:30:03
Speaker
The more you go on with Jesus, the sharper your discernment is going to be. And his will is that you would love what is good. You would resist what is evil, hate what is evil, and expose what is evil.
00:30:20
Speaker
as a major part of maturity. The longer people dilly-dally with wickedness and play footsie with the darkness,
00:30:30
Speaker
the the slower they'll actually grow and mature.
00:30:40
Speaker
Sorry. Go over it, Luciano. Yep. You just broke a point that sure I got amazed. now I never told that. and we see the court from someone who who had been doing very bad stuff being released we got angry indeed about that no how that could happen and the opposite as well when someone is framed it's completely innocent and it's going did that that person is going to jail going to be arrested we all we all got get
00:31:20
Speaker
angry and no cause the justice is in ourselves yeah right and that is the point that why god punished his own son in our place that's a point that i never thought about wow because that's horrific and just being that hey he he was flogged and even his flesh was completely destroyed yeah destroyed yeah and that is justice and we just you get amazed about that i had never thought this point that that's the justice and yeah he brought that for himself and
00:32:19
Speaker
we never know We never know who is going to receive his justice. Even the worst murders in this world, the worst scoom-back in this world.
00:32:33
Speaker
God put all their
00:32:40
Speaker
filthy stuff in upon Jesus. We never thought about that. Mind-blowing. and It is mind-blowing. And it's right. It's like... justice As a teenager, I just started university. And I remember hearing a teaching on the persecuted church today.
00:33:00
Speaker
Because in most countries outside of the Western Hemisphere, Christians are absolutely abhorrently mistreated by their governments.
00:33:11
Speaker
Like, there are Hindu factions in India. where the government and the media will literally give Hindu extremists financial rewards for hunting down and butchering Christians.
00:33:23
Speaker
um And I remember hearing about, you know, Christians being put in concentration camps and the torture they go through. It was just, oh my goodness. I actually sat there, listen I remember it as clearly as if it were yesterday.
00:33:37
Speaker
I remember just sitting there, just imagining this
00:33:43
Speaker
Long piece of metal with all these spikes and sharp bits. i was like, oh God, I'd just love to cut those murderers heads off. Like this is where my mind was going, listening to this.
00:33:54
Speaker
And I skipped from a righteous anger to just like, you know, kill them all. And then I remember the teacher just stopped the lesson. Now this is all in my head, but he just stopped the lesson and said, but Jesus died for them too.
00:34:09
Speaker
The very people who murder God's children Yeah, absolutely. Children in prison and treat them appallingly who create laws against God's people.
00:34:20
Speaker
He died for them as well. But the word forgiveness in the West, we kind of get a bit too used to Christianese. But actually, the literal meaning of the word forgiveness means my debt is paid.
00:34:36
Speaker
So imagine, for instance, if you owed as there something unimaginable. 500 million euros to the bank. And the option was you could pay it back or you could go to jail forever for not paying it back.
00:34:53
Speaker
And next thing, this guy walks in named Jesus and he's got a beard, long hair and sandals. And he's like, I've got it.
00:35:05
Speaker
And he pays 500 million euros on your account. on your behalf, turns to and says, the debt is paid. But he leaves it the counter and said, the debt is paid and walks off.
00:35:22
Speaker
You have the option ah to just into the bank teller's hand and say, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's paid, it's done with, yeah, we're good. or you can look at that money and say, the heck was he?
00:35:38
Speaker
And just walk off. Because you have the choice. He's given the money, the debt is paid, he did everything he had to do, but it's down to the individual, do you actually receive the forgiveness or not?
00:35:53
Speaker
Do you actually step into the fullness of what he died to give you, or do you actually choose treat it with with contempt and with just a casual dismissal?
00:36:05
Speaker
and And that's where belief comes in. You can appropriate the forgiveness by faith or you can basically say, screw him.
00:36:19
Speaker
And then one more Bible verse to go with this part.
00:36:25
Speaker
Second time I put the button.
00:36:31
Speaker
There we go. Okay.
00:36:37
Speaker
Okay, so it refers to him being flogged with human hands and being beaten rods, being beaten with sticks. But it still says his kingdom will endure for forever.
00:36:49
Speaker
He'll be beaten to a pulp, but he will still live forever. Acts chapter 2, 24 to 28. Look at this.
00:37:01
Speaker
And it says, but God released Jesus from the horrors of death. And raised him back to life. And i just like Luciano sang this morning, not even knowing what today's teaching chi was on, but death could not hold you, the veil tore before you.
00:37:19
Speaker
For death could not keep him in its grip. And then David said this about him in Psalm 16, 8-11. I see that the Lord is always with me.
00:37:32
Speaker
I will not be shaken, for he's right beside me. No wonder my heart is glad and my tongue shouts his praises. My body rests in hope.
00:37:47
Speaker
For you will not leave my soul among the dead in Hades, which is the realm of the dead, the underworld, or allow your Holy One to rot in the grave.
00:38:00
Speaker
by Jesus. He's saying Jesus would not rot into just mulch and ashes. he would come back to life again. You've shown me the way of life and you will fill me with the joy of your presence.
00:38:18
Speaker
And that is how he has a kingdom that's never ended because he came back to life again. So his original plan was always to establish this kingdom in the nation of Israel.
00:38:35
Speaker
a As the chap, Bugabax, goes on, you kind of realize they didn't want it. and So that's when he creates the Gentile body of private church, a heavenly kingdom.
00:38:46
Speaker
But at the end of time after the apocalypse, he does come back to Israel and establish a kingdom that lasts 1,000 years. And then when he remakes reality,
00:38:58
Speaker
And he sets up the New Jerusalem as the capital of of the New Earth. If you want to know what that looks like, it is absolutely phenomenal. Very exciting. Just read the last few chapters of the Bible.
00:39:17
Speaker
But at some point, I'll do a teaching on the end times and we'll we'll get there then.
00:39:25
Speaker
All right. Any comments, queries or questions so far? Or that all good?

Deepening Relationship with God's Word

00:39:31
Speaker
and like so that's it It's kind of exciting the way he weaves the So you have to be discerning.
00:39:42
Speaker
Yes. you yeah graduate He never really makes it very, very clear. Yeah. What I say is he has things hidden for us, not from us.
00:39:55
Speaker
Because imagine you had A best friend called Betty Watson. How are going to learn more about her?
00:40:07
Speaker
Talking. Asking questions. She might make some comment on a Wednesday and then two weeks later you think, hold on a second, she said something mental that I never actually questioned.
00:40:22
Speaker
That was. And you're like, hey, couple of weeks ago you said something. What did you mean by that? Or then, you know, she might say something and you're like a month later are thinking about it.
00:40:35
Speaker
Hmm. That's interesting. Because four months ago she said this. Huh. Are they different? Or can two things be true at once? That's what our relationship with the Word of God should be like.
00:40:49
Speaker
You read it and you're like, wow, amazing. But if something doesn't make sense, Scripture interprets Scripture. The answer is right to wrong. The answer is somewhere else. usually hidden in plain sight.
00:41:01
Speaker
Sometimes we have some excavating and digging to do, but it's all designed to draw us deeper into a relationship with Jesus. um So that in the same way in any human relationship, you would develop a relationship by asking questions, by talking, by communicating, by digging. It's the same with the Lord.
00:41:20
Speaker
And he reveals more and more and more, bit by bit by bit, sometimes in leaps and bounds, Sometimes just a small drop. Yeah, because he is a relational God.
00:41:36
Speaker
All right, everybody. Now, please turn to the Book of Psalms, chapter 132. 132. We'll come back 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel 7 moment, Psalm 132.
00:41:47
Speaker
we'll come back to first samuel or second time and seven in a moment but sam one hundred and thirty two
00:42:09
Speaker
Right. Catherine, you please read this one for us. The Lord remembered David and all his self-denial. He swore an oath to the Lord.
00:42:22
Speaker
He made a vow to the mighty one of Jacob. I will not enter my house or go to my bed. I will allow no sleep in my eye or slumber in my eye.
00:42:37
Speaker
till I find the place for the Lord, a dwelling for the mighty one of Jacob. We heard it in Ephraim, we came upon it in the fields of Gerar.
00:42:50
Speaker
Let us go to the dwelling place. Let us worship at his public booth, saying, Arise, Lord, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might.
00:43:03
Speaker
Might your priests be clothed with your righteousness, May your faithful people sing for joy. For the sake of your servant David, do not reject your renunciate ones.
00:43:15
Speaker
The Lord swore an oath to David, a sure oath he will not revolt.
00:43:22
Speaker
One of our own descendants, I will place on your throne. If your sons keep my confidence and the statues are right, I teach them, then their son will sit.
00:43:36
Speaker
on your throne forever and ever. For the Lord has chosen Zion. He has desired it for his dwelling. Same. This is my rest and place forever and ever.
00:43:47
Speaker
Here I will sit on thrones, for I have desired it. I would bless her with abundant provisions. For her I was satisfied with food. I would clothe her priests with salvation, and her faithful people would ever sing for joy.
00:44:05
Speaker
Here I will make a horn, rope for David, and set up a lamp for my anointed one. I will clothe his enemies with shame, button hiss head but his head will be adorned with a waving crown.
00:44:19
Speaker
Amen. Amen. Lovely. Beautiful.
00:44:25
Speaker
All right. In that psalm, want everybody look at verse 12.
00:44:32
Speaker
So God basically, goes David is singing about how amazing God is and God's done this and God's promised this and yada yada yada. Then we get to verse 12. If your sons keep my covenant and the statutes I teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne forever and ever.
00:44:51
Speaker
The most important word in that sentence is the first one. So circle it, underline it, highlight it. If. well And spoiler alert.
00:45:06
Speaker
Didn't happen. but
00:45:10
Speaker
And I've got four words for you. God's promises are conditional.
00:45:20
Speaker
He has a certain number of unconditional promises. The vast majority of them are conditional. God's promises conditional. Very nearly always conditional.
00:45:38
Speaker
Well, why not the unconditional one? One's life that's like, let's say the love of God. And that his love endures forever. His love is for all people.
00:45:51
Speaker
Yes, he can absolutely despise what people do. Yes, people can be his enemies because they set themselves up as his enemies. But he still loved them enough for Jesus to die in their place, you know?
00:46:03
Speaker
um But the vast majority of the words he sends out, he does want people to work with him because he created physical reality to be ruled and dominated by physical people in obedience to him, and step with him, talking to waiting on to him, asking him questions, looking for his leadership, his leading, his prompting.
00:46:29
Speaker
Do you remember, may I interfere a little bit, do you remember when he said about that strong man, if if the kingdom of darkness would be, you know, divided, that that wouldn't stand. The same with us, you know, if if we come with any, without condition, you know, then we will bring all our crap, you know, into the kingdom until the kingdom is divided.
00:46:53
Speaker
Sure, yeah, because even, let's say, if you have division in in in a nuclear family, between parents and their kids, between husband and wife, between brothers and sisters, what's going to happen?
00:47:09
Speaker
The family gets split. These people stop talking to those people. This person, whenever she hears the word died dad, daddy, or father, has a panic attack. um What starts on the molecular...
00:47:24
Speaker
It branches out, it has wide impacts. So how much more when God is trying to put a nation together? Or in this case, trying to put all the nations together under one Jesus.
00:47:36
Speaker
So when people are fractured and fragmented, it actually, it only serves the empire of darkness. If God's people don't like each other, for instance, and can't sit in the same room with each other, the only one that helps the devil.
00:47:52
Speaker
And in this case, God had a plan to use righteous kings to lead this nation in his ways so that they would get the good news to all the other nations.
00:48:04
Speaker
But he's basically saying, David, if your son and your grandson and your great-grandson great-great-grandson don't follow me and they lead the nation into wickedness and evil,
00:48:17
Speaker
I will eventually reach a point where they will not be sitting on that throne. Hmm.
00:48:25
Speaker
And then verse 13, it says, for the Lord has chosen Zion. Zion is a mountain in Jerusalem.
00:48:42
Speaker
And even just on 12, again, with God's promises mostly being conditional. I would say even if God has given you dreams or visions or you've gotten prophetic words before,
00:48:54
Speaker
i saying, okay, now God's going do this in your life, going to that, he's going use you to do this. Always come back to the last instruction he gave you.
00:49:06
Speaker
I know certain people, to be honest with you, they tend to be women, especially single women in their 20s and 30s. I'm talking about the Christians who aren't very nice Christians.
00:49:20
Speaker
And they tend to have these blow-ups or conniptions. And i think of one instance when one of them just screamed at me one day. I don't know why. Like, I i wasn't interested in romantically.
00:49:31
Speaker
But just screamed at was I have a husband. God has told me. And I'm going have all these kids. I was like, chicka tea time. Relax yourself. Whatever. um But after this strange occurrence happened, I thought about it. I was like...
00:49:50
Speaker
What is she going through? What just happened? What the heck was that? And then say, God,
00:49:58
Speaker
I'm not going to say you didn't speak to her.
00:50:03
Speaker
But if that's how she thinks it's okay to speak to people, o i I don't know if your words going to come true in her life. and Because if you can't own your own attitude, if you can't own your own heart, if you can't speak to someone Politely.
00:50:21
Speaker
I don't know how you think you're going to land yourself a husband and have all these kids you think you're going to Or an instance, you know, there'd be a guy and he's like, you know, God's told me I'm going to go to all these different countries and teach them about Jesus, that I'm going teach people who've never heard of him before and they're all going get saved.
00:50:41
Speaker
Well, you know, if I look at him and he could basically eat three of me and still have room for dessert, he's probably not going serving Jesus all that long. So then I might say, well, you know, you might have to start cutting down the calories before you start talking to all these, you know, homeless, starving people.
00:51:00
Speaker
And then I might get the wrong idea. So it's one of those where God's imagination is good, is perfect, is po pleasing, is praiseworthy, is pure, is noble.
00:51:17
Speaker
His thoughts are for your good, they're perfect, pleasing thoughts. He wants you to have what is good, not what's evil. He wants you to prosper. But, and here's the but, it's a big but.
00:51:34
Speaker
If you decide not to hearken to his will, If you decide to disobey his instructions, if you if he says, go right, and you intentionally go to the left, you're either going to postpone the fulfillment of what he said, or it might not happen.
00:51:55
Speaker
And that's when people say, you know, false prophet, false prophet, false prophet. No, it was the individual chose not to be in alignment with God. So when you get a prophetic word, it's amazing.
00:52:08
Speaker
And then people often call me, so now Brendan, what do I do? Do I move country? And I say, no, you do the last thing God told you to do. You follow the instruction he already gave you.
00:52:21
Speaker
All right, then verse 17. Here I will make a horn grow for David. The word horn means strength, power, and victory.
00:52:33
Speaker
When we think of horns today, we tend to think of just the noise that they make if you blow them. But in ancient times, it was a picture of strength, power and victory. You would blow it, you know, do goodoo because you had defeated your enemy.
00:52:54
Speaker
And again, even in the Old Testament, it's all about Jesus. It all points to Jesus. It says, and set up a lamp from my Unighted One. The lamp is the Unighted One. so underline or highlight, lamp from my Unighted One.
00:53:11
Speaker
And just write, because.
00:53:20
Speaker
Because what does a lamp do? It lights up. It lights up the darkness. It enables you to see what you otherwise would not be able to see.
00:53:32
Speaker
And I do think I did this in discipleship Wednesday, in
00:53:38
Speaker
in the very first chapter of the Bible, Genesis 1-3, says, then God said, light be, let there be light. And there was light.
00:53:50
Speaker
Now we're told that the sun was not created until day four. So who is the light? Who is the lamp? Jesus. On day one of creation, Jesus shone in his own light.
00:54:04
Speaker
So let there be light, let there be Jesus. And there was Jesus. All the pagan religions out there are like, you know the sun created everything, worship the sun. um But say no, the sun was not made until day four. Jesus gets all the credit for sending everything in motion.
00:54:21
Speaker
So for a lamb, I would write Genesis one three And then later on, You write the verse in full.
00:54:35
Speaker
And then another verse that talks about Jesus being the lamp, being the light. This a very, very famous one. Is John 1, 1 to 5.
00:54:46
Speaker
Many people up and down this country could rhyme this off with their eyes closed. In the beginning was the word, which is Jesus. And the word was with God.
00:55:00
Speaker
And the word was God. So when it says God said, let there be light. And the word was God. That's Jesus. That says Jesus said, let there be light. And he shone his own light.
00:55:12
Speaker
He was with God in the beginning. And the beginning is another name for Jesus. The Alpha, the Omega, the First, the Last, Beginning, and the End.
00:55:22
Speaker
Through Jesus, all things remained. Without Jesus, nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. Again, light be, let there be light. Jesus is the light.
00:55:40
Speaker
And the light shines in the darkness. And the darkness has not overcome or understood it. John 1, 1-5.
00:55:52
Speaker
Very, very popular one.
00:55:56
Speaker
Even in these days, the darkness is still warring against the light. And though evil has come very close to taking over the Western world in these days, it still has not succeeded.
00:56:10
Speaker
For the light of Jesus is still shining.
00:56:36
Speaker
Then we have another verse where Jesus calls himself the light. That's John 8, 12.
00:56:42
Speaker
It says, when Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, i am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have light of life.
00:56:57
Speaker
That's why I used the analogy earlier of the candle. He comes to light your flame again. or as that popular song says, relight my fire.
00:57:17
Speaker
Yeah, like the weather, everybody loves the sun. You know, when the sun shines. Yeah. and Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Yeah.
00:57:28
Speaker
And that's what he's basically promising to do in your heart, on the inside. Just give that light, give that warmth, the fuzzy feelings, the revelation, help you to see things you cannot see you when you're in the dark.
00:57:43
Speaker
Yeah. It's just the the natural, being a picture of the supernatural.
00:57:52
Speaker
Created things being a picture of spiritual realities.
00:58:00
Speaker
give Jesus a capital H for him.
00:58:12
Speaker
And then we have 18. will clothe his enemies with shame. Amen, God, do it in our time. But his head will be adorned with a radiant crown, a shining crown, an everlasting crown,
00:58:26
Speaker
This talks about him being a king forever and ever and ever and ever. And in the Christmas story, when the angel Gabriel comes to Mary, he says in Luke 1, 32 to 33, of Jesus.
00:58:42
Speaker
And he's, you know, blessed are you amongst women. And she's like, get out of my kitchen. And Gabriel says, Jesus will be great and will be called the son of the most high.
00:58:54
Speaker
The Lord God will give him the throne of his father, David. This is the connection between the two stories. And he will reign over Jacob's descendants forever.
00:59:05
Speaker
His kingdom will never end. So when Jesus came to the earth 2000 years ago, yes, he knew he would die for all sins and be resurrected.
00:59:17
Speaker
But the potential for him to actually be the king ah of Israel was in the world. They decided they didn't want him. and So instead he said, OK, I'll just put that plan back a bit and it will come to fruition after the apocalypse.
00:59:36
Speaker
Again, you can read Revelation 19 and 20 if you are interested in what the last 1000 years of Earth will look like.
00:59:52
Speaker
Alright, any questions on that, Sam? Or is that all okay so far? The bit before that, I would bless our abundance of nations to occur. I would say it's very good. It's our faith to salvation.
01:00:08
Speaker
Our faith to take on I think we're dying. What era is he talking about here? So here he's talking about his faithful followers in Israel so long as they would hearken to his word and obey him.
01:00:24
Speaker
And actually, when David died, his son Solomon became the king. And we're told that gold was so commonplace, people looked down on silver.
01:00:39
Speaker
the absolutely exorbitant wealth that the country got flooded with because this massive revival was taking place.
01:00:50
Speaker
They were all throwing themselves and before the Lord, just saying, yes, you're God, you're amazing, you're great, you're super, we love you, we put you first. And he blessed them with exorbitant wealth.
01:01:04
Speaker
Okay. I've heard it said that Israel, you know how prosperous in Israel, as a nation, you know, with technology and all God's gifts and business.
01:01:22
Speaker
And somebody told me, and I said, well ah why are Israel so prosperous when they're not there in God? And they said it's because they're tithed.
01:01:34
Speaker
They have always tithed. I would say that's partly true. on on one end On one side, Jesus does need to preserve the nation so the book of Revelation can happen.
01:01:46
Speaker
So he can beat the Antichrist that way in the apocalypse. at the same time, we are told that it's more blessed to give than to receive.
01:01:57
Speaker
So if you are giving to God's people, you're giving to the causes of Christ, um it is a biblical... rule as supernatural protocol, sow and reap.
01:02:11
Speaker
We see it in the natural, and it's a supernatural law too. That if you pour into things that God tells you to pour into, you will have fruitfulness, and then he'll bless to you because he loves you, and he'll bless you so you can continue to pour into it, so he can bless you even more.
01:02:27
Speaker
So I believe that, yeah, two things can be true at once. On one hand, there's a strategic element and for defeating evil entirely, And on the other hand, and when people give in faith, um well then I believe that God will pour an incredible blessing upon them.
01:02:47
Speaker
Where this gets misused and people get abused very easily is when people begin to kind of use emotional power plays or manipulation regarding finances.
01:03:03
Speaker
And um I know one person, i think she was told by some church leader to give and a thousand in euro or something for a miracle.
01:03:15
Speaker
And it's like, one thousand euro and I'll pray for you and God will anything. Well, she paid the one thousand euro. didn't get the prayer or the miracle. She went to the least. And so that's where people have to be careful that they're not doing something out of obligation or right to manipulation.
01:03:32
Speaker
They're doing it out of faith and obedience. Because I've had times when I was going to give to a church, for instance, and God was like, no, don't. And I said, oh, OK.
01:03:45
Speaker
But then maybe like 45 minutes later, i met a person and they had a certain ministry or project. And I said, oh, wow, that's really amazing. I'd love to support you.
01:03:56
Speaker
And God said, yeah, go for it. And so, you know, he just wants you to be a good steward of whatever he's given. And with that comes faith and trust, but also obedience.
01:04:07
Speaker
Yeah.
01:04:09
Speaker
Yeah.
01:04:12
Speaker
Yeah, they say the Jews, like in America, wherever they gather, that they really take care of their own people. ten You know, the poor, the sick. You know, they really are a family and care of each other. Yeah.
01:04:28
Speaker
Yeah, and they're wonderful. Amen.
01:04:35
Speaker
All right, guys. Let's go back to the second half of 2 Samuel chapter 7.
01:04:44
Speaker
So this time, verse 18, 2 Samuel 7, verse 18. So the
01:05:00
Speaker
line starts with, then King David went in and sat.
01:05:09
Speaker
Should I read? over around this, please do. Yeah. So verse... nice you You can finish it off, actually. Yeah, down into verse twenty nine to To Okay. is house?
01:05:27
Speaker
two then the gig day david went in sat in the lord's presence and said who am i lord god that what is my house that you have brought me this far.
01:05:44
Speaker
What you have done so far was a little thing to you, Lord God. For you have also spoken about your servant's house in the distant future.
01:05:59
Speaker
And this is a revelation for mankind, Lord God. What more can David say to you? You know your servant, Lord God.
01:06:11
Speaker
Because of your word and according to your will, you have revealed all these great things to your servant. This is why you are great, Lord God.
01:06:24
Speaker
This is no one like you. There is no God besides you. As all we have heard confirms.
01:06:36
Speaker
And who is like your people, is Israel? God came to one nation on earth in order to redeem a people for himself, to make a name for himself, and to perform for them great and awesome acts, driving out nations and their gods before your people you redeemed for yourself from Egypt.
01:07:03
Speaker
You establish your art your people, Israel, to be your own people forever. And you, Lord, have become their God.
01:07:16
Speaker
Now, Lord God, fulfill the promise forever that you have made to your servant and his house. Do as you have promised, so that your name will be exalted forever.
01:07:32
Speaker
When it is said, the Lord of armies is God over Israel, The house of your servant David will be established before you, since you, Lord of armies, God of Israel, have revealed this to your servant when you said, i will build a house for you.
01:07:55
Speaker
Therefore, your servant has found the courage to pray this prayer to you. Lord God, you are card Your words are true and you have promised this good thing to your servant.
01:08:13
Speaker
Now, please bless your servant's house so that it will continue before you forever. You, Lord God, have spoken and your blessing, your servant's house will be blessed forever. Thank you, Rama.
01:08:34
Speaker
Beautiful. All right, so this is David just praying back to God, like, wow, you have just promised me amazing things. You've promised to bless my offspring, and you've given me promise concerning the far future, whether he knew it was the Messiah necessarily or not.
01:08:56
Speaker
We don't know exactly, but he had this, I just think it's the most beautiful and humble prayer Especially verse 18 and 19. Who am I?
01:09:09
Speaker
Sovereign Lord. I mean, he's the king of a palace. But he's like, who am i And what's my family? Because remember, I mean, he was a poor shepherd boy. But you brought me this far.
01:09:22
Speaker
And as if this were not enough in your sight. So you're not going to stop by blessing me with a title. With a palace. With servants. With money. You're going to even more. You've spoken about the future of the house of your servants.
01:09:37
Speaker
This decree, this prophecy is for a mere human. I love the humility of it. And the Lord will exalt the humble.
01:09:52
Speaker
It's the arrogant that he takes down. Saul saw himself as a God in his own eyes. That's where the kingdom was stripped from him. But because of David's humility, his obedience, his always keeping God first.
01:10:12
Speaker
That is why God told him, I'm going to bless you so beautifully, so amazing and with such longevity.
01:10:25
Speaker
Humble and a contrite heart. Humble and a contrite heart. Exactly. Absolutely. Absolutely. And it's something that is so important that we always continue to have one.
01:10:38
Speaker
Because especially in days of expansion, in days of busyness, in days you know when God starts to bless you, it's so easy to take your eyes off the blesser.
01:10:51
Speaker
And focus entirely on the blessing. That's right. And I've seen incredible men go demonically dark side over something that' small.
01:11:03
Speaker
Men who were on such a trajectory for Jesus and loved him to bits and were ministering to I don't know how many thousands, tens of thousands a year. And then they took their eyes off the Lord and put their eyes on themselves, on their things, on their money.
01:11:21
Speaker
on the wrong advisors and it has not gone well for them.
01:11:29
Speaker
But in all of this, you know, the whole thing, it's sandwiched between humility. David's humble and says, I want to build God a temple. At the end, he's still humble. was like, I really want to build to this house.
01:11:43
Speaker
Spoiler alert.
01:11:46
Speaker
David's descendants kind of said, screw this, to the prophecy. And that's why things turned out so pear-shaped. They went into rebellion. To be honest with you, the very next king, started off amazingly, went into rebellion.
01:12:03
Speaker
His son was an absolute dope. And the whole kingdom fractured and was split in two. And... The plans that God had for a blessing, for a unity, for expansion, they got totally and utterly messed up and derailed.
01:12:25
Speaker
And what could have been a very beautiful history became a fragmented one, a tortured one, a broken one.
01:12:33
Speaker
And the Lord looked at the world and said, okay, well, where was that plan? This country was the one who was supposed to show the nations what it was like when a nation loves God.
01:12:47
Speaker
Didn't happen. They had a mandate. He entrusted them and they said, screw that, screw you. So then he had to do something else. He chose plan B. And plan B is when he turned to the Gentile nations, the nations who had never known him before,
01:13:07
Speaker
Ireland, Syria, Latvia, Lithuania, Brazil, Pakistan, Finland, Germany, France, all the other ones, USA, and said, okay, I'm going to reveal myself to you guys now.
01:13:21
Speaker
And you're going to, hopefully, get it. Just get it. And your nation is going to be saved. And the nations around you will be saved.
01:13:34
Speaker
And it was supposed to be Revelation Israel outworking. Now God's plan is the other nations get saved and it works back inwards to Israel. That's his plan.
01:13:45
Speaker
And David wanted to build a house, wanted to build a temple, and God's response was, never lived in one. But look at what God calls us, the body of Christ.
01:13:56
Speaker
He has a lot of names for us, but these are just a couple descriptions. Hmm. In 1 Corinthians 6 and 9, again, this is New Testament. This is for the body of Christ. He says, do you not know that your body is a temple of Holy Spirit who's in you, whom you've received from God?
01:14:16
Speaker
You are not your own. David was like, I'm living in a palace and God lives in a tent. This is nuts. This is embarrassing. I need to change this. The most phenomenal temple you could build with metal, gold, silver, bronze, and cedar wood.
01:14:34
Speaker
God is like, but for God to live in a person, that is his will. For God to set up residence in a person, in one of his children, that is what he finds exciting.
01:14:50
Speaker
That is what gets him going. Because he's a relational God who loves his people, wants intimately with his people. He wants to be your one and only. He wants to be the one who's all sufficient, the one you trust on more than anyone else.
01:15:05
Speaker
The one that you dwell in you live in you move through, you have your being in him. The one you say everything to. All those thoughts that you would just never voice to anybody else.
01:15:16
Speaker
He wants to be that person.
01:15:22
Speaker
ah And then Ephesians 2, 19 to 22. nineteen to twenty two He also says this about the body of Christ's people. He says, so now you Gentile, Gentile just means you're not an Israelite. So Irish, Lithuanians, Brazilians, Syrians,
01:15:42
Speaker
um Pakistani, Indians, Germans, all of the nations. So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners.
01:15:55
Speaker
You are citizens along with all God's holy people.
01:16:01
Speaker
You are members of God's family. You're the daddy, you're his son or you're his daughter. moving And look at this language, together we are his house.
01:16:14
Speaker
David wanted to build God a house of precious wood and precious stone and precious metal. God much prefers to dwell within a human.
01:16:25
Speaker
Through Jesus and Holy Spirit. Together we are his house. Built on the foundation. Of the apostles and the prophets.
01:16:38
Speaker
There are churches who do not teach the Bible. They teach motivational speeches that motivate nobody. The reason that we look at the Bible every week. Is because that is the foundation on which we stand. If the foundation is not strong. The building does not stand.
01:16:56
Speaker
And the cornerstone of this building. If you're building a house, the cornerstone is incredibly important. If it's wonky, your house is going to be tipping over and falling apart.
01:17:07
Speaker
And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. We are carefully joined together in him. Becoming a holy temple for the Lord.
01:17:20
Speaker
So you're his house, you're his family, you're his temple. That is how he sees you. Other people will tell you you're a fat slag. You're ugly. You're a nothing. If you die in a plane crash, no one would care. I was told that on the playground age 9 by my best friends.
01:17:40
Speaker
i went to Italy for a karate competition, came back like with a trophy, and my friends were like, yeah, we we're not happy for you. We we wished you'd die. and I was thinking it was traumatic for a child to hear.
01:17:54
Speaker
This is God's opinion. And God's opinion has to be the number one opinion and has to trump every other opinion, has to cancel out and stamp on every other opinion.
01:18:04
Speaker
To the point where it's like water off the duck's back. You're like, Jesus loves me. So you're a citizen. You're holy. That means you're set apart.
01:18:17
Speaker
Other people will try to drag you down to their level. God says, nope, you're holy, you're set apart. You're part of his house. You're his temple. And through Jesus, you Gentiles are also being made part of his dwelling. Again, dwelling, temple, house, all the same thing, where God lives by his spirit.
01:18:40
Speaker
Through sin, the flame of the candle is extinguished, but Holy Spirit brings your spirit back to life again, and he lives there. And Holy Spirit in you knows that you're a child of God.
01:18:55
Speaker
It's your soul who needs to be reminded daily. And every day you have to, you know, people say talking to yourself is the first sign of madness. I disagree. bre but Can you just read that there for a second? Yep.
01:19:08
Speaker
And you need to have conversations with your soul regularly, telling yourself to hearken the word of God and to believe what he says. Theory says you are citizens along with all God's holy people. Yep.
01:19:21
Speaker
I mean, who are all his holy people? The Jews. Yep, so in this one, the Jews who believed in Jesus. and Because just because someone was in the nation of Israel doesn't mean that they were righteous. But you have Saul, for instance, who was a ah murderer. um You have most of the kings in the Old Testament from Israel were abhorrently wicked.
01:19:47
Speaker
You have likes of Ahab and Jezebel where human sacrifice and demon worship went through the roof. They're very similar in their life to like Hillary and Bill Clinton, actually. i might do a teaching that someday. that Similarities are stark. and So it's not that by having human blood in your veins or a certain size nose, you are holy.
01:20:10
Speaker
But yeah, but for a saved Israelites, like the 12 apostles of Jesus, for instance, um and then the saved people in other cities and nations.
01:20:22
Speaker
This letter was written to Ephesus in Turkey, but the good news was spreading very rapidly to lots of different countries and continents at the time. And the Apostle of Paul is telling the believers in Ephesus, you're a part of one body, you're part of one house, you're part of one temple.
01:20:41
Speaker
We're not divided here, we're all one. You might have a cluster of cells over here and a cluster of cells here and a cluster of cells over here. But it's all one body, the body of Jesus, ah his physical body on the earth, um which is designed just to show up and show Christ.
01:21:02
Speaker
know
01:21:07
Speaker
So whenever your past comes against your identity or the enemy comes against your identity, Or people in your world, including those who should be on your side, come against your identity.
01:21:23
Speaker
For those last two in particular, 1 Corinthians and that Ephesians, I want you to write those out in full. And when the enemy comes against you, you say, no I'm a temple of Holy Spirit.
01:21:37
Speaker
No, I'm the dwelling of God. Why do look to God? Yep, so these final two. can write the citations now, but I encourage you to write the full verse later on.
01:21:48
Speaker
and So 1 Corinthians 6, 19.
01:21:56
Speaker
That your body is a temple of Holy Spirit who is in you, he lives in you. And even the little warning there, you are not your own. It tells us, don't Don't be a dope.
01:22:07
Speaker
Don't be stupid. Don't live in a carnal way. and You are not your own boss. Jesus is the Lord. Jesus the Master. Holy Spirit lives in you. Holy Spirit is God.
01:22:20
Speaker
So in everything you say, think, and you should look like you're temple of God.
01:22:29
Speaker
You're not a temple based on your works. You're a temple based on faith. But your works should line up with your faith.
01:22:42
Speaker
And what's the other one? Yep. And the second one is Ephesians 2 19-22.
01:22:52
Speaker
So what I would do there is I would write no longer strangers and foreigners. Because sometimes people might say it something like I'm sorry, I know what you're like. You think God loves you? Who's God dine at separate tables? I'm not a stranger to God. um But he calls me friend.
01:23:14
Speaker
Or someone might say, oh yeah, you're going to heaven? Okay, sure. Yeah, I know the brat you are the child. And you're like, God says my citizen was holy people. He's set apart people.
01:23:26
Speaker
He's not forsaking me, setting me apart. Like, ugh, you get over there. he has put me in his corner.
01:23:34
Speaker
He calls me one of his family members. People might say that, you know, you you're you're an orphan, you're a nobody. You might have a considerable rejection from then your own family.
01:23:45
Speaker
And God's like, you're part of mine. That's more important.
01:23:51
Speaker
And you're part of the house and Jesus is the cornerstone. So the house isn't wobbly. Your natural home might be wobbly and shaky and divided. and the floor might be missing floorboards.
01:24:05
Speaker
There might be wires dangling from above the fridge or the shower. Jesus says, you're part of a house, my house, and I'm solid. I am a solid rock. I'm a solid, sure foundation. I'll keep you standing.
01:24:20
Speaker
You're not going to fall because I'm in the right place.
01:24:26
Speaker
And you're carefully joined in him. That is... But Jesus and Holy Spirit live within you. Holy Spirit has brought your dead spirit to life.
01:24:38
Speaker
And Ephesians 3.16 says Jesus is in your heart. And what is he doing there? Well, he takes up more space. He begins to highlight things that need changing.
01:24:50
Speaker
He begins to highlight things that need removing. He begins to highlight things that need more commitment. changes you more and more in your heart to look like him.
01:25:03
Speaker
He says you're a holy temple. Now the temple of God in the Old Testament, it is described in insanely articulate detail, but it is more precious to God to live in one of his children.
01:25:20
Speaker
And he says you're his dwelling place. He tabernacles with you. He loves you.
01:25:27
Speaker
And he loves his kids far more than anything you'd ever create to honor him in and of ourselves.
01:25:40
Speaker
But to be used by him, like in a ministry, we have to be holy. We have to let him. so in your So in your spirit, he's already made you holy.
01:25:52
Speaker
Your spirit was dead. When the Holy Spirit comes in, he brings your dead spirit to life.
01:25:58
Speaker
Your soul has catching up to do. Because your will, you've already decided what you like, what you determine, what your choices, what your decisions are. for them to change and realign takes time.
01:26:11
Speaker
Your heart already wants what it wants, has already been deceived, has already been broken by life. To go through the process of healing and restoration, the reunification of your heart, as Sam says, the restitution,
01:26:28
Speaker
That takes time. It's a lifelong process. and And to be honest with you, the Bible says you become like Jesus when you see him. So you never actually arrive until you die and suddenly Jesus is there and suddenly then your soul is 100%.
01:26:45
Speaker
and Your mind, we all have intrusive thoughts, stray thoughts, thoughts we get and think, you know, going to meditate on this even though it's bad for me. getting your mind resolved and more obedient. It's like you're running a race and the same way you know you have to eat more protein, run, take this day off, have a leg day.
01:27:08
Speaker
You're beating your body into submission. You have to do the same with your mind and minute by minute take thoughts counted. The second do you ever thought that says no one loves you, Jesus does.
01:27:24
Speaker
Or the second... Well, I use the analogy of a phone. That people have a password on their phone. They need have a password on their soul. That when the enemy says, look at yourself in the mirror, you're ugly.
01:27:40
Speaker
Access denied and fearfully and wonderfully made. okay When the enemy, i'm talking humans or demons, say... um You could just walk away and know nothing would no nothing would change. No one would miss you. No one would mourn you.
01:27:59
Speaker
Access denied. God says, I know the plans I have for you. Plans for good and not for evil. Plans for hope and the future and to reach an expected end. and When you have thoughts like, him wow, God's amazing. and He's been so good to me.
01:28:17
Speaker
Access granted. And then you have Psalms, like, 132 today, where David is just humble and jumping over the hills of gladness that God would choose to love him and support him and bless him.
01:28:34
Speaker
A mere human, a mere man, a mere shepherd boy. want to say that, and god said for those who insist on going their own way and going against him, they will get what they must say.
01:28:45
Speaker
Yeah, it's in Job, actually, Job chapter three. um i think with Job is he was so tremendously blessed by God. And on so and on a large level, he loved the Lord too. He did.
01:29:00
Speaker
But he said, in his case, he said, the thing that I feared has happened. The thing I dreaded has come upon me. Even though he was so blessed, the richest man in the land of os whereas Uz today, I couldn't tell you, somewhere in the east, um he still had this incredible terror that one day he would wake up and lose it all.
01:29:22
Speaker
And he did. And then he said... touched That is... That's what the devil's opinion was. He was like skin for skin. If I take this from him, and he's going to start cursing the Lord.
01:29:35
Speaker
But his eyes, yes, they're on the Lord to a large extent, but still very much on the material to where the the fear set in. um And then in the Book of Romans, yeah, it says that if people choose to have a reprobate mind, God will release them to those carnal passions.
01:29:55
Speaker
He is an incredibly patient God. He is. But his patience has a limit. His grace has no limit. His patience does. And if people choose to live in abject evil and scumbaggery and malice, there will come a point where he says, you want the devil so much?
01:30:16
Speaker
The devil can have you. And they will be 100% culpable for for the justice that gets bestowed upon them.
01:30:28
Speaker
And we're going to see, we've already begun to see that even since the turn of this year. With, like, say, the Jeffrey Epstein um Chronicles coming out. And it's only going to increase.
01:30:43
Speaker
It's only going to increase. I've been saying this for years, and I ain't stopping. The enemy you see today, you will see the so see no more. So write their names down now, because a day is going to come when you will not be able to find them And you will struggle to remember them because those days will be so good. You're going remember high bad and crap these ones are. Hmm.
01:31:07
Speaker
man Yeah. Yeah. Sometimes people got that idea, you know, that God forgives everything and it's true. in but like you said, the right conditions, you have to come to him and say, well, Lord, actually, I'm not right here.
01:31:24
Speaker
and you know, but if people don't do that, then like you said, you know, the grace, yes, but ah the patience or say,
01:31:36
Speaker
then the judgment still will come. You know, it's not going to pass because there's so many passages. It it says that, you know, and reminds about that. It's the other thing not to get in too much, you know, like revenge. It goes, give a,
01:31:54
Speaker
give that to the Lord. yeah No revenge, not not to get you know that attitude that was like, yeah, yeah, go for it, God. yeah So, but on the other hand, we want that. Well, yeah, justice. just yeah yeah yeah So we've got that since since the birth, you know, but God's justice is just like patience. So good.
01:32:21
Speaker
Like his patience, Peter said that count as your salvation, his patience, isn't it? Yeah, yeah. we suffering so You see, some people have the head knowledge of God's forgiveness, but not the heart knowledge.
01:32:38
Speaker
They're like, Jesus died for the forgiveness of all sins. And then they go, so I can do whatever I want. No, he died for the forgiveness of all sins.
01:32:50
Speaker
So that if you believe in that, and that he's washed you clean, and you say, God, I'm so sorry for everything I've done. Jesus changed my life. Yeah. For you. Oh, my goodness. You are the Lord. You are the boss.
01:33:06
Speaker
But they don't want, they want the forgiveness of God. They don't want the Lordship of Jesus. They want a blank slate so they can continue to do what they want.
01:33:18
Speaker
They don't want Jesus on the throne of their hearts. On the throne of their rights. and But it's too as if you confess your mouth to Lord and believe in your heart about the cross and the end of the grave. Yeah. True. I don't know if you're going to go back into it, but It was like God said to Satan, if I consider myself in Job, it's like God was saying, well, you can take away his property, his family, but don't touch his life.
01:33:57
Speaker
oh Why was God like, handed, handed, but he put it in my hand. He could have stopped him, put him through that hell. He could have, but it's a case where Humans were made for war.
01:34:14
Speaker
Even Adam and Eve, they were made for spiritual combat. Same as we are. In the Old Testament, it's normally more visceral, you know, with the swords and the bows the arrows. For us, it's spiritual warfare.
01:34:27
Speaker
But humans were made to fight. I mean, your body, you know, karate, kung martial arts, jiu-jitsu, your body is a fighting machine. We were made to fight against the darkness.
01:34:39
Speaker
We were made to push back the empire of darkness. And the Lord knew that Job could and would. And what did that do? It embarrasses the enemy.
01:34:52
Speaker
It mortifies the devil. and Because we were told and in James, resist the devil and he will flee from you. Satan himself could come against you and you can win And what does that do?
01:35:09
Speaker
It increases your spiritual territory. It increases your ability then to bring heaven culture to the earth. Because the earth is, as you can see, it's in a bad place.
01:35:22
Speaker
Because people have been complicit with the darkness for too long. And God's people were nowhere to be seen. They're too busy fighting with each other to fight against the devil. and And what God's doing in these days is a big turnaround of actually mobilizing his people into a place of unity with each other. And I think that's only going to increase.
01:35:47
Speaker
I think a lot of established church fellowships that are not fit for purpose are going to be closed by God himself. And he's going to say, okay, let's...
01:36:00
Speaker
Let's restructure this. Let's rebrand. Let's reshape. Let's reforge. Because he needs people who are actually interested in seeing each other set free. And in seeing unity.
01:36:12
Speaker
And in seeing heaven culture spreading on the earth. um Instead, we have church fellowships taking government grants. and And then shutting their doors whenever governments tell them to.
01:36:28
Speaker
getting yoked to the government it's going out to pay back this much on property and and banks and everything else. And that probably does impact the sermons that they teach or don't teach. We've got churches who don't allow visions or prophecies or or prophetic dreams and because, oh what if they say something that like you know we don't want people to hear?
01:36:50
Speaker
And it's all man-made control rather than what's God's opinion on things. and aour word The Western church has gotten too cowardly, too afraid of God's word, too afraid of real and raw.
01:37:06
Speaker
more um And if God's people are afraid, evil just... swoops in and takes over. So the body was made for war. The soul and spirit of a human was made for war to push back the enemy, to trample on the enemy.
01:37:23
Speaker
And in God's, in Job's case, God knew Job would prevail. And plus his life a picture of Jesus. He didn't deserve what happened to him, but he was put through the mill and the Lord blessed him more afterwards.
01:37:40
Speaker
And in Jesus' case, He deserved nothing that happened. Nothing we read today did Jesus deserve. But the Lord, Father God, more specifically, am still sent Holy Spirit down to resurrect him.
01:37:54
Speaker
So ah Job, he didn't deserve the attack. He was down in the dumps, begging actually for time to be rewound. And he gets miscarried. He literally said, God, can the darkness just swallow the day of my birth?
01:38:10
Speaker
I want to be stillborn. That's literally what he prays. He's like, go back in time. i don't want to see the light day. I do not want to come out that... Let's keep this PG into the world. And it was literally Mother's Day. he I was like, well i will I say that? Will I not? Yeah, into the world to see the light of day.
01:38:29
Speaker
ah And in Jesus' case, he was brought into the depths of the earth, died and was buried, but rose again, and and God has blessed him now with...
01:38:41
Speaker
all of creation. So yeah. Yeah, it's a, his story is a prophetic narrative of Jesus. And for us too, I suppose it's a big time for, when we get sick. Yep. That's right. right.
01:38:54
Speaker
And got to draw strength from

Preparation for Communion

01:38:56
Speaker
us. 100%. 100%. Yeah. Spot on. Spot on. yeah <unk> put on spot on
01:39:03
Speaker
Well, guys, and thank you all for your participation today. and This is a really happy chapter in the Bible. The next one will also be very happy. And then then second Samuel just becomes a sad, sad story. um But since we've been talking so much about how good God has been, especially through the flogging and the mistreatment and the injustice given to Jesus on our behalf, it's only right and proper we have communion.
01:39:32
Speaker
So go get yourself a cup, go get yourself some bread or crackers, something to nibble on.
01:39:39
Speaker
and Yeah, just directly in the office, you okay?

Informal Communion Gathering

01:41:00
Speaker
Thank you, Rich. I think there's one or two more people in this room. I'll have to look for a bigger space.
01:41:28

I'm going to get 30 now. I'll keep reading.
01:41:34

01:42:42

Yep, if you have bread or a cracker or something. And if you have even water or juice...
01:42:50
Speaker
I just have cheese here at the moment. Cheese is great. That's what I just... Cheese and... I just have now cheese and coffee.
01:43:01
Speaker
Cheese and coffee sounds like a very 21st century communion. Is it acceptable? Of course it is. The Lord loves the heart. Yeah, but yeah.
01:43:13
Speaker
I'm joking and I'm serious. I'm going to prepare a coffee. Just one second.
01:43:22
Speaker
Honestly, if you just have cheese and coffee, I am okay with it. That's a communion from my state. though yeah That's our stereotype of cheese and coffee. That's what I do in Brazil. Yeah, no, in my state. Cheese lower.
01:43:39
Speaker
i sorry Go with your cheese and coffee, honestly. Yes. The Irish are for potatoes and e we are for cheese the same intensity. I'm going to make a coffee for myself. Just a second. Okay.

Reflection on Jesus' Sacrifice

01:43:57
Speaker
Oh Lord Jesus, we thank you that you are that king that you told Nathan about in the middle of the night. I thank you Jesus
01:44:15
Speaker
that through your own flesh and blood this heavenly kingdom has been established.
01:44:26
Speaker
that you are the son of Father God, and that when we did wrong, it was put on you. Our sin, our evil, our wickedness, our negative, wicked, selfish thoughts, the carnal desires of our hearts,
01:44:51
Speaker
bitterness and revenge,
01:44:54
Speaker
Our will, which has been rigged for hurting others, promoting ourselves, denigrating you from your rightful position, the Lord of our lives.
01:45:10
Speaker
When we did wrong, Father God chose to look at you and see all those things. So you were punished with a rod wielded by men.
01:45:23
Speaker
You were punished with floggings. Inflicted by human hands. You were spit on. You were punched. You were beaten.
01:45:35
Speaker
You were stripped naked and paraded through the streets. Forced to climb a mountain carrying our cross.
01:45:45
Speaker
You had a mocking robe put on you. You had a crown of thorns plunged into your head.
01:45:55
Speaker
You had a spear put through your heart. You were given vinegar to drink rather than water.
01:46:07
Speaker
Nails are put through your hands and feet.
01:46:12
Speaker
But God's love will never be taken from you. Just as your love for us will never be taken from us. Because you'll say that you'll never leave us, nor reject us, nor forsake us.
01:46:29
Speaker
And Lord, I declare that we are your house. We are your dwelling. We are your temple. We are citizens of a heavenly kingdom, citizens of heaven. And while the nation of Israel decided 2000 years ago that they didn't want it, we as your house, we as your heavenly kingdom will endure forever with you, Jesus, and in you.
01:46:57
Speaker
establish your throne in our hearts forever and ever. Amen.

01:49:42
Speaker

01:49:59

01:50:19
Speaker
that they would know that they know that they know that you are with them, you are for them, you have not abandoned them, you have not rejected them, you have not forsaken them.
