The Jesus Revolution: Revival of the 70s

00:00:02
Speaker
Hey there, Joshua generation. all right, so a couple of years ago, ah really great Christian movie came out called The Jesus Revolution. It looked at a revival in the USA in the 70s, in which hippies began getting saved in very large numbers, drug addicts, yadda yadda yadda.
00:00:25
Speaker
And at the start of the movie, it was the prim and proper church people who all got offended and just walked out the door.
00:00:36
Speaker
And those who'd been on the highways and the byways, who had been living lawlessly, who had been on the wrong side of every issue, suddenly began to catch the fire the Holy Spirit and were filling up the church buildings so vastly that they couldn't even do church indoors, or they had to do the massive big tents, and people were getting baptized in water in the thousands.
00:01:06
Speaker
And the movie was so, so uplifting and so, so encouraging in so many ways, and it is a taste and a picture and a foreshadow of the Jesus revolution that we're beginning to see now, little embers here and there. but it is going to take the world by storm, and God's going use it to turn this upside-down world the right way up.

Church Dynamics and Struggles for Control

00:01:32
Speaker
But towards the latter half of the movie, things begin to get very tense towards the pioneers the revival, God's men. One of them is a pastor.
00:01:45
Speaker
It begins to feel very inadequate because people were more drawn to the prophetic than to sermons, to God speaking revelatory messages in real time, to the canon of Scripture, the revealed Word of God as written by about 40 prophets of old.
00:02:09
Speaker
And then there's one occasion where the pastor begins to intentionally sideline the lead prophet, and he does it out of his own insecurity.
00:02:22
Speaker
But the insecurity in the prophet also comes out in that moment. He feels slighted and sidelined. He feels nervous.
00:02:34
Speaker
He feels he's losing his grip on the microphone, on the crowd, not the congregation, the audience. And suddenly he begins to spout false prophecies, not out wickedness or spite, not to be witch or to be devil, but to keep the show going.

David's Quest for the Ark: Aligning with God's Will

00:03:00
Speaker
That came to mind as I was reading 1 Chronicles 13.2. thirteen two King David then said to the whole assembly of Israel,
00:03:12
Speaker
if it seems good to you, and it is the will of the Lord our God. It's always good to have those two things in agreement, especially God's word first.
00:03:25
Speaker
Let us send word far and wide to the rest of the people throughout the territories of Israel, and also to the priests and Levites who are with them in their towns and pasture lands to come and join us.
00:03:39
Speaker
Let us bring the Ark of our God, the Ark of the Covenant, back to us. Far too long had passed without it, because of Saul's disobedience and all the nonsense he had been responsible for.
00:03:55
Speaker
But we did not inquire of him during the reign of Saul. The whole assembly agreed to do this, because it seemed right to all people. It just made sense.
00:04:08
Speaker
Verse 5, David assembles all Israel from the Shihor River in Egypt to Lebo Hamath to bring the Ark of God from Kiriath-Jerom.
00:04:21
Speaker
But there, heaven here's where we have to be very, very mindful of the protocols of carrying the Ark of the Covenant, of which David and his men were ignorant.
00:04:35
Speaker
If you read Exodus 25,
00:04:38
Speaker
12 to 15. And Numbers 4, 15. thor fifteen The protocol was very, very specific.
00:04:51
Speaker
It had to be the Levites. It had to be the worshippers who carried it. And they had to carry it on poles. Why?
00:05:02
Speaker
Because the Ark of the Covenant contained within it A manifest presence of God. God is everywhere. He is omnipresent.
00:05:14
Speaker
What does that mean? It means everywhere. Everywhere in the natural realm. Everywhere in the spirit realm.
00:05:26
Speaker
Everywhere in every dimension. Yes, even the lake of fire. and yes, even hell. Yes, even... Sheol positive, where the Old Testament saints went. It is empty. He is still there.
00:05:41
Speaker
Because he's omnipresent. It's who he is. It's one of his qualities. He is everywhere, all at once, all the time. He's not in pain, in hell, or in the lake of fire.
00:05:55
Speaker
He's fine. He's definitely not giving it his graceful, compassionate, attentive, forgiving eye. But in a supernatural way, He's still there. he is everywhere.
00:06:07
Speaker
But there was a manifest presence of his soul and spirit inside that box, inside that golden chest.
00:06:17
Speaker
And it was the job of the Levites, the priests, to put up on their shoulder, to carry it,
00:06:27
Speaker
and to march. That way, the ark would be above their head. We as the body of Christ are told that Jesus is our head.
00:06:41
Speaker
His opinion is our opinion. And if it's not, course correct.
00:06:49
Speaker
His word is the word on our lips. If you're speaking words that aren't in his vocabulary, stop. His heartbeat is what your heart should be beating for.
00:07:03
Speaker
While he's praying, is what you should be praying.
00:07:09
Speaker
His thoughts and his intentions should be your thoughts and intentions. We are the bondservants. Slaves to righteousness. Not slaves o getting whiplashed.
00:07:24
Speaker
But we've we pledged ourselves to be his servants. because of his mercy and grace and saving us and adopting us and making us his own and calling us his home on the earth as temple.
00:07:39
Speaker
So the Levites were the priest class and they were to worship and be glad and to carry it on poles and it was to be exalted over them. He was to be the head.
00:07:53
Speaker
He was to be the leader. The boss. the name above every other name, above every other human agenda, or a strategy, or ministry.
00:08:11
Speaker
God is over human goodness. God is over human performance. God is over human productions.
00:08:25
Speaker
Productions of holiness. But I'm doing it for Jesus. Doesn't matter. Has he told you to?
00:08:36
Speaker
But it's a good thing to do. Is it the right thing to do? Is it what he commanded you to do? When he told you to do it? How he told you to do it?
00:08:48
Speaker
And how you regarded the chest? How you regarded, revered, and honoured the Ark of the Covenants?
00:09:00
Speaker
was a picture of how you honored, regarded, or revered the Lord in your heart. Or if you didn't. Let's read on. You may have noticed that I dropped my notes on the floor and I've lost my page.
00:09:14
Speaker
If takes a couple seconds, make a cup of tea.
00:09:20
Speaker
I highlighted this. It's all good. 2 Samuel 6, verse 2.
00:09:25
Speaker
second samuel tab six verse two
00:09:31
Speaker
King David and all his men went to Bala in Judah to bring up from there the Ark of God, which is called by the name, the name of the Lord Almighty, who is enthroned between the cherubim and on the Ark.
00:09:48
Speaker
Cherubim are supernatural beings that live in heaven, and they were in a precious metal on top of the Ark, two of them.
00:10:00
Speaker
And Jesus would come down in the Old Testament. He would sit between them. He would give instructions, his decrees, his commands.
00:10:13
Speaker
It was a box in which the presence of the Lord resided and on which the Lord would sit, rule and reign, make his opinions known.
00:10:28
Speaker
They set the ark of God. and not on their shoulders as they carried it with poles. They set the Ark of God on a new cart.
00:10:41
Speaker
Why is that a bad thing? Because if you look at 1 Samuel, chapter 6, verse 10 to 11, that is the very same thing the Philistines did.
00:10:55
Speaker
Where the Philistines stole the Ark of the Covenant, way back when, in the days of Saul. Even, well, Saul was probably born, but wasn't the king yet.
00:11:07
Speaker
There was a wicked priest class. um The religious establishment was just pure wicked through and through. The nation was in total sin.
00:11:18
Speaker
And the Philistines got it. And that is what they did the Ark of Yahweh, the Ark of Jehovah. They put it on a new cart where they could lead it wherever they wanted to.
00:11:33
Speaker
God's people here treated God in the same way that pagans had treated him. Treated him in the same way that heathens had.

Ego, Humility, and Divine Alignment

00:11:45
Speaker
Baal worshippers, child murderers, Asherah worshippers, transgenderism, practitioners and champions,
00:12:01
Speaker
Dagon worshippers, the god of evolution. Hello. They believe that people came from fish in the sea.
00:12:13
Speaker
They set the Ark of God on a new cart and brought to it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill.
00:12:22
Speaker
Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new cart. There are a lot of things wrong with that sentence. Number one's probably my pronunciation.
00:12:35
Speaker
Uza means strength. And ahio means friendly. Friendly strength. A production. A performance.
00:12:48
Speaker
A seeker-friendly church, which never discusses holiness. Or the corrective word of God. um The prophetic is supposed to be corrective.
00:12:59
Speaker
It's not just there to encourage you and build you up and make you feel good. Sugar and spice and all things useless unless you're baking.
00:13:11
Speaker
But flat. Empty. Looks good. Feels good. Doesn't accomplish all that much. Hollow.
00:13:25
Speaker
Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new cart. They're the second problem.
00:13:34
Speaker
The Ark of the Covenant was to be over the head of those carrying the poles.
00:13:45
Speaker
As a picture, as a reflection of the soul state,
00:13:54
Speaker
that God's word was over man's word. God's decree was over god was over man's decree. God's perception over man's perception.
00:14:07
Speaker
God's knowledge over ours. God's understanding trumping ours on every situation. At every opportunity.
00:14:21
Speaker
But here people said, nah, be grand. We've got this. We're gonna... We're gonna make God go where we want him to go.
00:14:35
Speaker
You know, I have this...
00:14:39
Speaker
motto that I say at the Joshua Generation when I teach it live in the mornings. These videos tend to be 15, 20, 25 minutes. In the mornings we go on from about 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. Sometimes longer.
00:14:56
Speaker
And I always say this was a great Sunday. it's very different Sunday. But a good Sunday. Because every Sunday is different. Sometimes it's a short Bible story.
00:15:10
Speaker
Sometimes it's a long Bible story. Sometimes I give short prophetic words. Sometimes the entire session is prophetic.
00:15:20
Speaker
Sometimes we're all just ready to go, rearing to go, and we'll jump straight in. with encouragement, sometimes we give 30, 60 minutes for worship.
00:15:33
Speaker
Sometimes we pray at the end, sometimes we pray before we've begun. Sometimes we'll pray it two or three times throughout.
00:15:42
Speaker
Sometimes communion's the very last thing we do today. Prayer naturally led into communion, supernaturally naturally led into communion.
00:15:55
Speaker
Why? Because I do not ever want a situation where the fellowship of believers becomes flat, becomes predictable, becomes boring, becomes man-made.

The Role of the Holy Spirit in Worship

00:16:12
Speaker
Structure is important. He is a God of order. Structure is restrictive, and there is no excuse. That is when people think they know more than God,
00:16:24
Speaker
But I always like to keep a certain amount of Holy Spirit flow throughout. Because when Holy Spirit's able to do what wants to do, take he wants to take it, I know it's going to land.
00:16:41
Speaker
His word will land. He'll release the word he wants to release. And it will land in the soil of the souls he has for it to land in.
00:16:53
Speaker
Before we start, I'm already aware of a certain level of the flow. When we've begun, you'll often tell me, okay, linger here. Remember all that you prepped?
00:17:06
Speaker
Not necessary. That was just for you. You know that thing intended to say? That'll do for another week. Hey, you know your plan for next week? Don't go there.
00:17:17
Speaker
You see this here? Highlight that. Say this will lead into next week's. Keep the Holy Spirit flow. Let him speak. Jesus is your head, keep him over your head.
00:17:34
Speaker
Second in Samuel 6, 4. They were guiding the new car to the Ark of the God on it.
00:17:42
Speaker
And Ahio was walking in front of it.
00:17:49
Speaker
Yeah.
00:17:52
Speaker
Let's just assume that what he did on the outside is how he felt on the inside. i am more powerful than God.
00:18:05
Speaker
i am the star of the show. I am in charge. I am boss.
00:18:12
Speaker
Not only was the Ark of the Covenant not over the heads, of men. I had no idea I was even going to use this example, but going to see where it goes.
00:18:24
Speaker
Instead, it was on an animal cart,
00:18:29
Speaker
and a human was running the show. A human was the star.
00:18:38
Speaker
You know, whether it's Joshua Generation, Open House Ministries, or Irish Revivals,
00:18:47
Speaker
We have one very specific rule we never deviate from. Jesus is the only celebrity in the room.
00:19:00
Speaker
We make a space so Holy Spirit can show up and show off.
00:19:10
Speaker
We show up so we can show Christ.
00:19:15
Speaker
That wasn't Ahio's opinion. You couldn't see the Ark of the Covenant from the cart.
00:19:25
Speaker
But you could see Ahio.
00:19:29
Speaker
You could see the performance. It was like that song Prince ali from Walt Disney's Aladdin.
00:19:41
Speaker
When Prince Ali the one who's there to meet the princess, but he's on top of an elephant at the back, and who does everyone see? The genie. It's a great song, I'm not dissing the movie. It's my favorite animated movie, or at least one of them.
00:19:57
Speaker
But to get the point, the star of the show is in the back. Hidden from view.
00:20:08
Speaker
Verse five. David and all Israel were celebrating with all their might before the Lord, with castanets, harps, lyres, timbrels, sistrums and cymbals.
00:20:19
Speaker
In great sincerity, I'm sure. i'm sure most people were there for the right reasons and loved the Lord and honoured him and were delighted to have gotten the Ark of Covenant back.
00:20:36
Speaker
But the lead worshippers the ones who had been assigned or assigned themselves to lead the parade, there was ego.
00:20:49
Speaker
There was pride.
00:20:53
Speaker
And that is where for leaders especially, pastors, teachers, worship leaders, evangelists, whatever kind of leader you are, you need to do regular heart checks.
00:21:07
Speaker
And put to death, as soon as possible, any ego or pride you're still carrying around. Because it will, inevitably at some point, make you look like ego.
00:21:23
Speaker
Forcing yourself into spotlight so no one can see God behind you. And below you.
00:21:32
Speaker
God was closer to their feet than their head. It would have been easier to have walked on top of the Ark the Covenant than to have looked up and seen it.
00:21:50
Speaker
Verse 6. When they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, possibly Nacon, don't know, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the Ark of God, which was forbidden, because the oxen stumbled. It's interesting that this happened at a threshing floor.
00:22:12
Speaker
That's where whole stalks of wheat were gathered, and where the chaff was separated from the wheat. The wheat was good for food, the chaff was crap.
00:22:27
Speaker
The wheat was good for baking. The chaff was good for burning.
00:22:35
Speaker
The wheat was good for industry.
00:22:40
Speaker
The chaff,
00:22:44
Speaker
you would've been better off walking on top of it and grinding it into dust. We have that expression in English today, separate the wheat from the chaff, the good from the bad, the good eggs from the bad eggs.
00:22:57
Speaker
And that's what God did here. There's a holy separation taking place between the righteous and the ones who would actually lead people astray, because they want to put themselves in front of God. And I believe this chapter is a warning to the body of Christ today.

Leaders' Responsibility to Keep God at the Center

00:23:20
Speaker
Revivals have begun. Revival, with a capital ORE, is coming.
00:23:27
Speaker
but the days of leaders putting themselves in God's place, putting themselves in front of Jesus, elevating their head above the head of the church.
00:23:46
Speaker
I believe Lord's patience for such behavior is running thin. Again, if I'm describing you, You've got a small window of time to realign.
00:24:01
Speaker
The Lord's anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act. And therefore, God struck him down. In case you don't know what that means, it tells you very clearly. And he died there beside the Ark of God.
00:24:18
Speaker
Don't worry, we live under grace. The wrath that God was dealt at the cross. He's not killing people today. But he can take you out. He can take you out of positions. He can take you out of ministries. He can take you out of places he put you, if you do not reflect on.
00:24:35
Speaker
He is the sun, we are the moons. We're there to reflect his light, not our own. Our light and of ourselves is a counterfeit light that does not hold a candle up to the light of Christ.
00:24:51
Speaker
Then David was angry, incensed, infuriated, because the Lord's wrath had broken out against Uzzah. And to this day, that place is called Perez-Uzzah, the break of Uzzah, the breaking of Uzzah.
00:25:09
Speaker
Verse 9, David was afraid. That means fearful reverence, or reverently fearful, same thing. of the Lord that day and said, how can the ark of the Lord ever come to me?
00:25:22
Speaker
And here's the thing, he didn't know. Because at the start of 1 Samuel, the priests were crap. They were really, really bad. I've made videos on this before and go check it out just how awful they were. And then we had the people of the nation.
00:25:44
Speaker
One second, they were well behaved. The next second they're worshipping demons. One second they're on God's side. The next they're begging for something God despises.
00:25:55
Speaker
Can't be trusted. And then we've just spent several months looking at Saul. And his court. And his son.
00:26:07
Speaker
And his second-in-command. The nation was a bad place. And the word of God... had not been taught it properly for quite some time anyone other than Samuel.
00:26:22
Speaker
meant the judges, but they're not part of our our our series right now.
00:26:30
Speaker
So David didn't know. The answer was, in the first five books of the Old Testament written by Moses. But he will find that out in a later chapter.
00:26:44
Speaker
So David was not willing to take the Ark of the Lord be with him in the city of David, Jerusalem. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.

The Blessings of Hosting God's Presence

00:26:56
Speaker
Obed-Edom is probably one of my favourite people in the Bible who did absolutely nothing interesting or important at all, by human reckoning. The Ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and the Lord blessed him and his entire household.
00:27:15
Speaker
Why I like Obed-Edom is David just drops the Ark of the Covenant there and is just like, here, boom, you look after it, I'll be back eventually. And when you next see Obed-Edom, he follows the Ark back to Jerusalem.
00:27:36
Speaker
And he starts to get all these different jobs and positions that no one else would possibly want. um Kind of like, think of church ministries today that no one has actually has any interest in, but still need doing.
00:27:48
Speaker
And he was so blessed while the ark was in his home that he just says, you know what? I want to chase the blessing. I don't want to give it up. I want to keep with it. If God's got blessings to pour out, I want to receive them.
00:28:03
Speaker
I want to be in the centre of his will and the centre of his purpose. And he gets family, relocates to Jerusalem, and spends the rest of his life loving the Lord, doing whatever it takes to make his plans for the nation come to pass.
00:28:21
Speaker
um So that is the warning in the life of Uzath.

Authenticity in Worship Over Performance

00:28:30
Speaker
Great days of expansion are coming, friends.
00:28:34
Speaker
Great days of excitement, great days of wonder, great days of course correction among nations, among governments. The Epstein files have been released and you're gonna see many, many people that absolutely despise us and have made the world a miserable, filthy, pedophile-ridden place for so long, locked up, and the enemy you see today, soon you will see no more. And I mean that literally.
00:29:03
Speaker
Never again. What's happen to them? That's another video.
00:29:11
Speaker
But the church has to get its act together. No more nonsense. No more games. No more performance. No more production. It's time for real.
00:29:24
Speaker
It's time for authentic. It's time for illegitimate. Because you can deceive Davids in your world. You can't deceive God.
00:29:39
Speaker
that's our story. Catch you next time.
