David's Escape and Recognition as King

All right, today we're going to have a look at 1 Samuel chapter 21. The story begins with David still on the run from King Saul, and he goes to Nob, where Ahimelech, the priest, lives. And there he gets the sword of Goliath. It is a one-of-a-kind sword, and there's no other sword in the country of Israel to quite like it.

Afterwards, that same day, in verse 10, it says, David fled from Saul and went to Achish, king of Gath. Gath was a Philistine city. There were five cities. Each one was a city-state, like, you know, a mini-kingdom, but they would...

They knew when to close ranks and when to come together, especially when it was in the pursuit of evil and doing the work on the enemy. they would They would align. But other than that, they kind of worked independently.

Verse 11. This is interesting. But the servants of Akish said to him, Isn't this David, the king of the land? Isn't he the one they sing about in their dances?

Saul is slain his thousands and David his tens of thousands. Wow.

David was not wearing the crown in Israel. David was not sitting on the throne of Israel. David was not living in the palace and in Israel.

David was no longer even over the army. He was a man on the run, the run for his life.

And yet his enemies look at him and say he's the king. He's the ruler.
Aligning Self-Perception with God's View

He's actually the one in charge, or at least he's the one of the anointing to lead.

You know, in 1 Samuel 16, Samuel anoints David as the king of Israel When Jonathan speaks to him after Goliath's been beheaded, Jonathan dresses him up as ah as a prince in his own tunic, gives him his own weapons. There seems to be some prophetic acknowledgement that David is the next in line for the throne, at least on Jonathan's behalf.

But at no point in 1 Samuel do you see David actually tell other people what God has spoken over him. At no point does David actually say, I want this. Amazon Prime's House of David TV show is very good in many respects. There's one scene I really, really hate, which is when David plunks himself down his all throne.

That to me is actually the polar opposite of David's character. At no point did he try force onto the throne. At point he try to force way onto throne. Did he try to curry favourite people to get the throne prematurely? Or to manipulate events to get there?

um But Saul, on some level, was like, this guy's so popular, he's probably after my throne and used that suspicion as justification to try to kill him.

But David never once said it. Not to his wife, or wives, that we know of. And not to his mighty men.

But yet the enemy knows. The enemy looks at him and says, Saul is a joke. Saul is a clown. This guy's the real king.

Word God says that you are a a vessel to be used by God. That your true worship of him is by giving he yourself over to him, serving him, saying what he says, praying what he prays, doing what he does.

That your obedience is faster than sacrifice. But what God says, that he knows the plans he has for his people.

And they're not evil plans, they're not harmful plans, they're plans for good. They're plans for your prosperity. That you would achieve an end.

But God says God purposed good, perfect, pleasing work for you to do before the foundation of the earth was lain.

He wants you to be about that business because God has faith in you. God actually trusts your ability in him to accomplish that good, perfect, pleasing work.

But God says that you were sent here to push back the darkness. You're to hate evil. You're two reject evil. You're to expose evil.

the same way that Jesus came to dismantle the operations of darkness, as you do that, you will do likewise.

God has Holy Spirit fruit for you. He wants to stretch your ability to love.

to operate from a place of real peace. Peace with God, peace with yourself, and peace with others. It wants you to grow in faithfulness and trust.

Patience, which often includes long suffering. Self-control, not the sexiest one, but very important. Your gentleness, your humility, your joy. That that joy will be your strength.

Your gentleness. Not gentleness as you're squirrelly, you squarely you just just let people walk all over you. But true gentleness.

A that's rooted in gentleness and humility. Not showing off, or but but a quiet confidence in God. He has Holy Spirit gifts for you too. They're gifts of administration.

Spiritual Warfare and Identity Recognition

Rejects what God's spoken over your life. Rejects what Holy Spirit's doing in your life. You are in him who he's called you to be. Maybe your local church congregation just refused to see it.

They want the power being in the hands of the few, they're taking a personal disliking to you and don't want you operating in it or being about the father's business.

Perhaps they see you as a threat.

Perhaps it's because you're a woman and they don't want women doing anything other than Raising babies, which is very important. And running bake sales. And again, money is very important.

But they want put a cap. An artificial ungodly limitation who God's called you to be. So as we see in this story 1 Samuel 21, the enemy has got your number.

The enemy can see.

who you are on the inside. The enemy can see Christ in you and Holy Spirit in you. The enemy looks at you and can see a fire.

For some of us it's a roaring fire, for some maybe it's smaller, bit dimmer. It needs more heat, it needs to be fanned into flame, but it's there. And the enemy can see the anointing that's on your life, anointing to be a teacher.

I've had it almost my whole life. I've had it since I was at least eight years old, maybe earlier. So what happened? The enemy came after my voice.

Time and time again, day after day, month after month, year after year, i'd be told, no one cares what you have to say. Decade after decade, it even happened last week.

No one cares what you have to say. Shut up. In primary school my nickname was Silent Bob. i was told to zip it until eventually I just did. didn't speak anymore.

God would give me incredible revelation on the word.

And i would sit under people who were teaching the exact opposite. Incorrectly and it frustrated me because I knew that I was seeing something. And then thought, am I the one who's in error?

who's an error, who's a dissenter here, I'd speak the truth, and God's people would come after me, and the enemy's people would come after me, and demons would come after to me.

Or God called me to be a seer, have prophetic dreams, have visions. And I remember first, well, the first dreams that I remember, not saying they were the first ones, but the first ones that I could remember, the earliest ones I could remember,

were demonic attacks, or God giving me warnings of oncoming demonic attacks. And I'm telling you, it absolutely scared me to bits. And the end I said, God, I never want to see anything spiritual ever again!

and then, then, maybe late 2016, early 2017, I said, okay, God, you know what? i I take those words back. I renounce them. I...

go to the ground and I crush them under my foot. want to see whatever you want to show me. It's okay if it's ugly, it's okay it's scary. It's very okay if it's brilliant, if it's encouraging.

But I don't want to be ignorant of anything. there are things I can see in the Word, that's fantastic. and then there are things happening today in real time that I need to know what's coming. There are things coming from my personal future, and it's all corroborated by the word of God, by the Bible, by the scriptures.

But we need a fresh word,

an up-to-date word, an in-the-moment word to tell us who's conspiring against us.

Human and non-human. who's coming into my life that I would probably walk past, but God's saying, nope. They're part your destiny, they're part of your future, keep an eye on them. Who are the people I don't like or would not inherently trust? And God's saying, actually, they've got something for you to glean from.

Eyes open, ears open, heart open. Listen.

So attacks have come against me my whole life, regarding my voice, regarding teaching, regarding seeing. Why?

Because the Philistines in my life, the men of Gat, the Gittites in my life, could see what Holy Spirit had given me, the deposit, it what he had entrusted to me.

Even when I didn't see it, even when did not want to see it, even when other Christians, hello, i did not see it or refused to see it,

or saw it and were threatened, or saw it and hated it, or saw it and hated me and said it to derail me. Sometimes behind closed doors, though God would always reveal it, sometimes more openly, sometimes straight to my face.

But the enemy can see it. In the same way that these men of Gath said, oh, he's the king. He's a runaway prince. He's public enemy number one. he's on the run.

The king hates him, or at least the man sitting on the throne calling himself the king hates him, has set a bounty on his head, I'm sure. Because you read 1 Samuel and there's always someone informing the king, could be the Ziphites, sometimes they're not named, sometimes it's men that David has just rescued, and they the god says, oh, they're going to betray you.

But God knows who you are, he knows who he's made you to be, he knows who he calls you.

And he does it for your future, to set you up to win. That you would achieve an anticipated, expected, preordained end. Your destiny.

But demons, they do not have a destiny, other than lake fire. So therefore they want yours. don't want you to achieve yours because they are livid.

They will never achieve theirs.

And they hate God so much that they get off on sabotaging his children get back at him.
Unity and Power of the Body of Christ

And there's one thing more powerful than evil on this earth, and it's the body of Christ. And if the body of Christ are weak or silenced or passive, We're selfish, apathetic, distracted, wounded, bleeding all over the place.

We're not going to help anyone else. We're not going to be in a position to.

So the enemy will try to see, we'll see who you are and then we'll speak against it. Or we'll try to attack you with fear.

Paralyzing fear. Or if you step out in faith, and it doesn't go so well. Maybe you try teaching a sermon for the first time and it flops, or you realize you've said something stupid.

I've been there. Or you try evangelizing and no one listens to you. remember once teaching someone about the Word of God, and I just thought, wow, this is amazing. God, the Word's really getting through, and...

Afterwards, someone called him and he just goes, Jesus effing Christ. And I was like, seriously, did i just waste 45 minutes of my time?

Discouragement is another big one. The attack of the enemy. The tool in his arsenal.

The enemy will see what God's put in you and will come against it to stop your destiny because your destiny will free you. It will break chains off you and more than that, will break chains off others us because the anointing breaks the yoke of evil.

Start there. Learn who you are. Write it down as many times as you have to. Write it on Post-it notes and stick them all over your bedroom mirror.
