Podcast Introduction

00:00:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to the Daily Newcastle Podcast with Global Sports Podcast Network. I am your host today, so that is me, Nicola. Nicola. um And I am joined by um two that make the troublesome threesome, are probably the least enthusiastic I have ever seen them, including myself, because we're all tired. It's been a long week and and the weekend seems to have gone away in a flash.

Dealing with Recent Loss

00:00:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
So am firstly joined by my Girly, Jo, how are you?
00:00:39
Jo
I'm all good, I'm all good. Just unfortunately fresh out of a 6-1 loss to Liverpool for the losses but you know, we'll not talk about that because it's about the men today.
00:00:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:00:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's not talk about that.
00:00:51
Jo
No.
00:00:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I'm also joined by Kevin. How are you?
00:00:56
Kev NUFC
I'm very good. We are all tired, right but I think it's because of the just drains here, so thank God there's no more of them left.
00:01:02
Jo
Drains you.
00:01:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I completely agree. And it's a bit of a weird weekend for us, this one. So we don't

Upcoming Match and Stadium Discussion

00:01:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
play until Monday night, which will be tonight when you guys are listening to this. So we've had a full weekend of football. Obviously Spurs doing spursy things and losing to Ipswich, one weekend beating Man City another weekend. Yep. Don't know how that goes. So we are doing, we're switching it up. We are doing our match preview today ready for um the lads playing Monday night tonight. So I thought we could kick this first part off by talking about something that seems to be of a talking point on social media of to the latter part of last week and into the weekend of a potential new stadium for Newcastle.
00:01:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know we've all been quite vocal about it in our um group chat. Kev is shaking his head for anyone that can't see. um And then we've all been quite vocal about it in our group chat and we've all got different opinions.
00:02:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
But how are we feeling? So I think I'll come to Kev first because he's sitting there shaking his head.
00:02:12
Jo
Care but
00:02:14
Kev NUFC
Don't come to me first. and Yeah, I mean we did a wild call Wednesday and I think we talked about this for like something like 12 to 14 minutes. It was me, John Ian. And I'm just so against the new stadium.
00:02:26
Kev NUFC
It's like, and I get it right, genuinely the demand for tickets and the people who can't get in, it is unfortunate. And it's not all just the people I've seen people online say, well, you should have kept your ticket through the rubbish years and you would still have a ticket now, which there's never been a truth to that, but I don't really believe it because my dad was one of the ones who gave up his ticket.
00:02:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm. Hmm.
00:02:45
Kev NUFC
but yeah it's a case of it's i just don't think we should move i think even if we can't get above 60 000 65 000 on the current site we just we should limit ourselves at that i just don't think we should go further um the main reason is our atmosphere is so unique and it's so special it's in a city center i mean what you're gonna do are you're gonna move the stadium miles away from a city center there's no pubs there's no atmosphere everybody goes in very posh prawn sandwiches no
00:03:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:03:14
Kev NUFC
none of that working in class history, none of the cathedral on the hill, none of the writers in James's Park.
00:03:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:03:20
Kev NUFC
And again, we're one of the rare teams, I think it was us and about four of the teams who have only ever played at one kind of stadium and we've always played this in James's Park.
00:03:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well.
00:03:28
Kev NUFC
So for me, I'd rather stick at 52,000, even if we can't, um I mean, we can upgrade, but even if we couldn't upgrade at all, I'd rather stick and I'll get so much stick for that, bring it on.
00:03:31
Jo
it
00:03:38
Kev NUFC
I'm telling you now, but they'll have a massive it'll have a massive impact. Look at our home form under Eddie Howe, since the place has been rocking, we hardly ever lose at home. And when we do, it's always quite close over in Nottingham Forest when Chris Wood challenged in a Didier Drogba. But apart from that game, I'd rather i'd rather not leave it all. I i don't want the i don't want but endless amount of posh sweets and I don't want the endless amount of £17.50 for a hot dog. I don't want that ever.
00:04:06
Kev NUFC
keep it how it is please or just improve where we are but don't move.
00:04:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, so Kev has strong feelings about that.

Debate: New Stadium vs. Tradition

00:04:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Jo, do you agree or are you on the fence or what are you
00:04:23
Jo
I'm all over the place. I've got to be honest. I do lean towards wanting to stay. That's my kind of underlying thing. And like I've said, we'll have discussed this before. my main thing would, I'd love to stay. I'd love it to be expanded wherever it can be expanded. I totally understand why I think it's not going to be. And I totally understand why I'm almost a hundred percent sure we'll get a new stage over an extension by the way. So I don't actually think it's just about.
00:04:46
Jo
getting an extra 8,000, 10,000 people in there, I'll be honest. It's more about all the other things they can bring to a stadium. I'm talking the owners and revenue here. I'm not talking about us as fans, unfortunately.
00:04:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:04:56
Jo
I'm talking about what they think they can get out of, say, a 70,000 capacity or potentially more.
00:05:01
Jo
So you're talking about bringing more gigs in, you're talking about bringing NFL, you're talking about, I don't know, there's all sorts of different aspects to it, which I don't think they think they can bring to St. James's Park, which is a massive shame, by the way, because yes, we're not lying, I want to stay at St.
00:05:13
Jo
James's Park, 100% do. And I've said it a million times over, the only way I would be partially happy about moving is if it was literally next door on Leesers Park, but then you've got all of that massive issue.
00:05:25
Jo
But Kev's bang on, if it moves anywhere other than the likes of Leesers Park, I think it's going to rip the soul out of the club.
00:05:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:05:32
Jo
so no, this is where I'm torn and I'm all over the place with it. Cause I totally understand why from a business perspective, by the way, they want to have this new stadium. but I totally understand from a fan perspective as to why we want to stay.
00:05:43
Jo
However, like Kev said, Ian had this conversation with us as an older fan and made a really big point that we hadn't considered before, didn't he, Kev, about the fact that he ironically isn't as attached to St.
00:05:51
Kev NUFC
It did. did
00:05:55
Jo
James's Park, even though he's as a ground in a literal location, he's been there longer than us.
00:06:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:06:00
Jo
He's seen so many changes that he doesn't feel that connection that we feel. I've obviously seen a bit more than Kev. He literally has his pretty much caught in main memories from the current kind of visual as is in James' part, whereas I do have others, but I am still more lean towards kids kind of way of thinking, which I think a lot of fans are.
00:06:18
Jo
I'm just being realistic as to why I think they want to be staging, by the way, that's all.
00:06:19
Kev NUFC
I think
00:06:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:06:22
Kev NUFC
I think even with you all the older fans, the Gallaget is the Gallaget, isn't it?
00:06:24
Jo
That's...
00:06:25
Kev NUFC
if you um um Imagine moving to a brand new stadium, right? There is no Gallaget.
00:06:30
Jo
No.
00:06:31
Kev NUFC
There's no like pubs all over the place. There's no it's not a city centre ground.
00:06:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:06:35
Kev NUFC
You don't just get off at the ah ah central station and walk up with me away from fans and you mingle like nah.
00:06:38
Jo
That's why it has to be leasers kept, you know, things. That's why it has to kind of be, they've got to do something. And if if they insist on having a new stadium, they've got to throw some cash at people and bribe leasers to be ours or something.
00:06:44
Kev NUFC
But the Gallaget would still be gone. Even if it's for reasons, the Gallaget would be gone.
00:06:51
Jo
And I know people go on it being protected land, but I don't know.
00:06:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:06:54
Jo
Don't get me started on that either anyway, by the way.
00:06:55
Kev NUFC
i't rather just I'd rather just build up a Gallagut and then whatever you get out of that.
00:06:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
My.
00:06:59
Kev NUFC
And if that's the best you can do, that's the best you can do.
00:07:00
Jo
Yeah, yeah.
00:07:01
Kev NUFC
But we don't want to be a NFL ground.
00:07:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:07:03
Kev NUFC
We don't want to, I mean, yeah concerts are great.
00:07:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:07:04
Jo
We don't, we don't.
00:07:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
we
00:07:06
Kev NUFC
Like, this isn't copyrighted.
00:07:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
but It's definitely coming from a business point of view, isn't it?
00:07:07
Jo
Yeah. Yeah, we don't.
00:07:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
And unfortunately, I think we've discussed this before, and I think it was actually us three when we're talking about the modern footballer, like what is the difference between footballers now to, you know, you know, even 10, 15 years ago.
00:07:10
Kev NUFC
nick
00:07:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Football in general as a sport is more business like now. It's not about enjoyment and it's an Unfortunately, it's actually not really about the fans anymore, which is a really sad thing to actually sit on this podcast and say it's actually not about the fans. I am of the opinion of I don't want to see St. James Park no more. and as in like i I want to stay there, if that makes sense. I don't want to move. I don't want a new stadium. However, I have got a really horrible feeling that it's going to happen. And unfortunately, and I think I said this, it will become
00:07:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
soulless. The club will become soulless.
00:07:58
Kev NUFC
Oh, 100% but still will be gone.
00:08:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
You look at them near a hundred percent. You look at the likes of, I mean, ironically, the West Ham Stadium. That, to me, is got to be up there with one of the worst stadiums in the Premier League.
00:08:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
The run track completely ruins it and the atmosphere other than that bubble song that they play at the beginning, in which is awful, by the way, it's soulless.
00:08:17
Jo
Which is awful.
00:08:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Man City ground, soulless. The Tottenham Spurs ground. soulless. I'm trying to think of one at the top of my head.
00:08:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Obviously... and Yeah?
00:08:28
Jo
Well, they said about Arsenal, to be fair, when they moved to the Emirates, didn't they?
00:08:31
Jo
They said that it was and even their fans said they would much prefer to stay at Highbury. But again, it it was another case of. That, that wasn't the fans choosing to go at the Emirates.
00:08:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:08:42
Jo
That's the bit, this is where we've, us and them and it is in them. And we don't want to watch it.
00:08:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
i I am a little bit bored and again I'm about to go on tangent.
00:08:48
Jo
And that's the real problem.
00:08:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know the podcast is about to review the game tomorrow but
00:08:54
Jo
yeah
00:08:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm a little bit bored of whenever I log onto my social media, whether it be X or TikTok or anything like that, Instagram of the, what's the word, the rush of influencers that seems to be at every single football game, whether they're football fans or not. it Like that is to me, one of the things that has drawn the soul out of club football. it's all about, it's like business and revenue. And that is what I'm really, really worried that Newcastle are going to become like.
00:09:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because like we say, Newcastle's ground is probably always voted up there with the best atmosphere in the Premier League. So yeah, I'm a little bit worried about it, guys. I'm not going to lie.
00:09:36
Kev NUFC
To be fair, when you look at

Impact of Business on Football Identity

00:09:37
Kev NUFC
atmospheres in like in football, it's like, I mean, everyone's little traffered, but I still think it's got a very good atmosphere. Even though there's a lot of tourists there because it is, we have played there for so long.
00:09:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:09:47
Kev NUFC
And then Anfield, Anfield's a great atmosphere because again, they've played there for so long.
00:09:52
Kev NUFC
We could move. And then we have this wonderful state of the art stadium, but exactly what you've just said, where ni it's filled with tourists and influencers and the working class. People can't really afford a ticket anymore.
00:10:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:10:04
Kev NUFC
And then all of a sudden it's like, well, what is that club?
00:10:06
Kev NUFC
Like, yeah, it's called Newcastle United, but like, there's no like PSG moments happening where everyone loses just an absolute, not going to say the word, but you ever lose it.
00:10:12
Jo
Mm.
00:10:17
Kev NUFC
But I honestly, I honestly think. If you look at it from a football club and I know it's all about business, but your home ground and your home atmosphere is supposed to have such a big effect on the results. At the minute we have that, why on earth would we want to move? It just makes zero sense. Yes, there's fans out there who now all of a sudden want to come back to the games. Oh, I'm a massive Newcastle fan. I've supported them for 50 years. I give up my ticket to Miyashi because it weren't worth supporting.
00:10:42
Kev NUFC
Well, we're not going to be worth supporting again when it's an 80,000-seat esterium and with 60,000 people in and only 40,000 of them are actual fans.
00:10:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah.
00:10:49
Kev NUFC
It was 20,000 empty seats. Like, what's that?
00:10:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:10:52
Kev NUFC
That's not Newcastle United.
00:10:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:10:53
Jo
but people
00:10:53
Kev NUFC
It shouldn't happen. It should never happen, but you're right. It probably is going to happen, so I need to get used to it.
00:10:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's be up. Well, don't we all? Because I think we all agree that we probably shouldn't move, but we don't own the club, unfortunately.
00:11:03
Jo
yeah
00:11:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
So yeah, not down to us. I think that's probably a great place to leave the first part. So we will go to our first ad read out by Joe, please.
00:11:15
Jo

International Player Performance

00:11:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Lovely job, Jo, thank you.
00:11:40
Jo
i
00:11:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right, now let's focus on Monday Night's Game against West Ham. Thought this next part we could just cover the three lads that have um done us absolutely proud on international
00:11:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Can't talk about them highly enough. And how we expect to sort of line up for Monday Night's Game and what we're expecting to see and do we think we're going to be fresh from the international break. So I just want to kickstart by saying Tino Lewis and Anthony Gordon on international duty. 10 out of 10 from me. What boys? They performed so well and done themselves so proud and I think have, you know, proven that they deserve to be in that squad when obviously Thomas Tuchel takes over.
00:12:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
more frequently. I'm glad that Kastley took a punt on them all because they deserved it.
00:12:37
Jo
Yeah.
00:12:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
are you guys feeling about them? Jo, come to you.
00:12:42
Jo
Well, like you said, they were just, they were fantastic, weren't they? I like what Karsley did, I'll be honest. He gave a lot of players a debut and he was at eight players, I think.
00:12:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:12:50
Jo
And that's the, I love that. So it does give Tuchil something out to go. I never know how to say his name. But yummy tea, yeah.
00:12:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Same. Thomas. We'll just call him Thomas. He's our mate.
00:13:01
Jo
So, Tommy, it gave him something to think about, didn't it? But it also gave him, like, it's it's what I would call a welcome headache, isn't it? Instead of just having the so-called obvious team to inherit from Southgate, which we all agree just got a bit stale.
00:13:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:13:16
Jo
You're bringing in not only our boys, but there was some other guys as well who I'm who i'm big fans of from the from other clubs as well. But yeah, I think England, it looks a lot brighter moving forward. It'll be interesting to see what he does with it. I think we have touched on that a lot as to his style of play. I don't know too much about what he's going to do, so it's hard to predict.

Future of England's Team Selection

00:13:33
Jo
But in terms of our boys, that they were fantastic, weren't they? And it was great to see all three of them start the last game.
00:13:39
Jo
because that hasn't happened as we discussed since like 97 as well. So we have a proud moment from your castle and then you heard Eddie talking about it and he genuinely seemed like really like proud of the three of them, didn't he?
00:13:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:13:49
Jo
It was just a bit of a father figure type of moment, wasn't it?
00:13:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, its lovely.
00:13:52
Jo
The way he's talking about them. So no, I expect them to come back. with their heads held high, bring that in their performances for us as well.
00:13:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:13:59
Jo
So I expect, not that I didn't, by the way, but I expect them to start strongly tomorrow. But I did expect that before anyway, because they've been great for us, those three.
00:14:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:14:08
Jo
Exactly what you said, they fully deserve what they got out of the England collapse.
00:14:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, they were very good. Kef.
00:14:14
Kev NUFC
Yes, just to back up Joe a little bit, he has made the pool a lot bigger in terms of our typical, you know, like the Fodens and Trents and all them. Tugel now comes in, but for me it's a negative because, well, a couple of things really. I don't want anybody to take them players off us because I think we are absolutely brilliant and I'd love to keep them for the next 10 years if possible. And the other one is if Thomas Tugel comes in and just goes with the typical Phil Foden,
00:14:40
Kev NUFC
harry kane you know of the usual team we've seen for the last however many years it's like well what's the point in having these players come up and do well because we're not even gonna get picked anyway i mean that would just put me on such a oh i'm not interested in england still whereas if he comes in and he keeps picking with morgan gibbs white and my kurt as jones and anthony gones i'd be like i'm gonna keep watching england are i might i might believe her i might believe again one day so he's got a big big job when he comes in in january but
00:14:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:15:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
we need. Yeah.
00:15:05
Kev NUFC
I mean all the Newcastle players can do is just, I think it'll be huge for the rest of the squad in a weird way. Players like Willough will be looking at that thing and I think Longstaff will be looking at it and thinking well I want a bit of that if Tino can get called up who's only been here for...
00:15:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:15:19
Kev NUFC
two years i can get called up so like i say i think it does more for the rest of the squad than what we probably think when i think it also backs up anyhow just a tiny bit more of well look if you trust us i will turn you into international football look what i've done with the likes of blah blah blah blah blah so yeah it's it's going to be big for the rest of the squad i just hope that i don't think it will have gone i hope players like tino don't get carried away and think that they're a big deal now because we've still got a lot of development to go
00:15:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Two years here.
00:15:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
100%.
00:15:32
Jo
Yeah.
00:15:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it's not your favorite.
00:15:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:15:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:15:47
Jo
Yeah.
00:15:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm.
00:15:47
Kev NUFC
and and obviously talks of Trippier being back. Trippier started to get favoured before he got injured. Trippier was back in the team.
00:15:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, you're right.
00:15:55
Kev NUFC
He was the first choice right back again and he got injured, Latino got back in.
00:15:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
and
00:15:59
Kev NUFC
So be interesting as well.
00:16:00
Kev NUFC
It's a tough one for Eddie.
00:16:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, just off the back of the England break, I thought it was quite interesting to see players like, well, Anthony Gordon, I think, Jude Bell, and put something up. And I also think Jack Grealish put something up about Lee Casterly bringing the enjoyment back of being in an England shirt.
00:16:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
which made me think what was going on behind the scenes when Southgate was obviously in charge.
00:16:24
Jo
Yeah.
00:16:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
So like you say, yeah, I'm Ben White.
00:16:27
Kev NUFC
and Ben White and whites real bri and up and ben why alright refused to play for England under Southgate and now he's come out and said he's available for selection a again since Southgate's gone.
00:16:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, because yeah well well, I think, did he not pick up an injury last week? Anyway.
00:16:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:16:42
Kev NUFC
so Definitely a bigger story there but four would I hope I wouldn't want to uncover that.
00:16:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
There's definitely a bigger story there, Yeah, but it's nice to see, know they're all Newcastle players that I've mentioned, but it's nice to see them getting their confidence back. obviously that's what we want is players to obviously enjoy playing in the England chat.
00:16:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Newcastle, let's focus on them. How are we thinking that obviously we're coming off the back of, know, some relatively good wins and well, great wins actually.
00:17:06
Jo
Yeah.
00:17:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we are in pretty good form. So how are we thinking Eddie is going to shape up on Monday evening?
00:17:13
Jo
Yeah.
00:17:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Again, probably a headache because who do you drop? Who do you pick? So Kev, what are you thinking?
00:17:25
Kev NUFC
It has to be unchanged. I mean, the same team with Pete.
00:17:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:17:30
Kev NUFC
Pete, who was that we gained before for us?
00:17:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
forest Oh yeah.
00:17:34
Kev NUFC
Arsenal. Yeah. Same team, which has been both of them. I think the midfield has to be Bruno, Willard and Longstaff, even though that means you leave out to Nali and Joel, and goes to a wing.
00:17:41
Jo
Uh huh.
00:17:44
Kev NUFC
But at the minute, I think until, and until new signings come and Botman comes back, I honestly think the team we have played in the last two games, balance wise, attacking, defending,
00:17:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:17:56
Kev NUFC
control and possession. We actually control possession against Forest which is something we spoke about on here a lot and we we did well with it and created chances.
00:17:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I agree.
00:17:59
Jo
Uh huh.
00:18:02
Kev NUFC
So I actually think the team of poor Paul, Paul, Burnshaw, Tino, Longstaff, Bruno, Willak, Jolint and Isaac and Gordon, I think that team is our team now until January.
00:18:12
Kev NUFC
I don't think anybody else can get in there. Jolint and Gordon switching wings. I love how we had a right wing problem Gordon fixed it for a short time and then Jordan cuts inside from a right and it's an Unbelievable finish on his left foot. So that problem is well and truly solved with empty all of a sudden So I would be amazed if he makes any changes to restart and line up, but I think it's brilliant.
00:18:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, me too.
00:18:33
Kev NUFC
I think it's a class for the team because you look at players like Tenali who'll be desperate to come in. I know Kraft was doing well before he got injured. and Actually, that's the thing.
00:18:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:18:42
Kev NUFC
We can't play Bern, it'll have to be Lloyd Kelly because Kraft's injured and Bern's suspended. So Lloyd Kelly will come in at 0.5.
00:18:47
Jo
Yeah.
00:18:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, yeah.
00:18:48
Kev NUFC
That'll be a forced change.
00:18:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:18:49
Kev NUFC
But yeah, in terms of actual pick changes, none, but a forced change.
00:18:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
That'd be a false one.
00:18:54
Kev NUFC
I think Lloyd Kelly will come in at 0.5.
00:18:57
Jo
Yeah.
00:18:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Joe, anything to add?
00:19:00
Jo
And no, it's pretty obvious, isn't it? Unless there's something, obviously, that's happened in training that we don't know about, which, you know, there will be plenty that happens in training that we don't know about, by the way.
00:19:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
ye Yeah.
00:19:09
Jo
So he might see certain things that he might think, oh, well, for this game, I might prefer someone over someone. I need to gnarly, for example, bring him in.
00:19:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:19:18
Jo
But, you know, personally, Kev's bang on. We need to kind of stick with what's working. and It worked in the past season that we ended up finishing fourth.
00:19:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:19:26
Jo
we stuck with the same team quite a lot even though ironically people were still because I think some people just have to complain about something people are still complaining that even when but it's right isn't it it's true like we were literally sitting in Champions League spots for a nice chunk of that season he had some people like why doesn't he change it up why won't he do this why won't he do that and I'm like like what do you want what like what else do you want do you want us to just sit top of the table permanently nobody has a sniff
00:19:45
Kev NUFC
why dan burt why is dan burley and left by take were four
00:19:53
Jo
Eddie rotates a squad all the time. Everything's just meant like, like, come on, man, people. It's just not how it works. I know. And especially Eddie.
00:20:00
Kev NUFC
To be fair, Man City have said we've got injury problems, but nothing compar compared to what we had last season when we finished seven by the way.
00:20:05
Jo
They've got no idea.
00:20:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
them and Arsenal, when they talk about crisis, it's like the whole league needs shut down.
00:20:06
Kev NUFC
like
00:20:07
Jo
They've got a squad on top of a squad.
00:20:10
Jo
Yeah.
00:20:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's pathetic.
00:20:11
Kev NUFC
We had 14 players unavailable at once.
00:20:12
Jo
Yeah.
00:20:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was going to say.
00:20:13
Kev NUFC
We had 14 players.
00:20:14
Jo
We had a crisis. We had a, yeah.
00:20:15
Kev NUFC
We had Lewis Miley starting against PSG. We had a 17-year-old kid having to play because we had no players.
00:20:18
Jo
Yeah. And a bench full of kids. Like they don't understand, but it's, you know, we'll not, we'll not bother talking about them because they don't, and when you've got a squad on top of a squad.
00:20:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
They don't understand.
00:20:28
Jo
Yeah, it's irrelevant, isn't it? But no, in terms of what our lads deserve, nobody deserves to be dropped. So yes, we expect it to be the same. And if I'm honest, I think you probably will start Joe on the right.
00:20:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:20:38
Jo
put Gordon back on the left where he's happy but that's fine because Joe proves that he's working absolutely fine.
00:20:41
Kev NUFC
yeah
00:20:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:20:43
Jo
Big Joe in fact now and you know what it is I was thinking about just the other day I was watching him I was watching the highlights of something but it is true he's become almost our most versatile player and I was sitting watching it and I know people talk about Bruno being our mom well that's exactly what I was about to say he literally took the words out my mouth but yeah so I was thinking everyone talks about Bruno being instrumental in years by the way I'm not at all undermining what he does for the team
00:20:45
Kev NUFC
I am anywhere.
00:20:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
hundred
00:20:52
Kev NUFC
It's almost important.
00:21:06
Jo
But to me, Big Joe is more important than pretty much anyone on that team right now because of his versatility on top of everything else, by the way.
00:21:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:21:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. And I, I agree.
00:21:09
Kev NUFC
i agree
00:21:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:21:13
Jo
so yeah, so yeah.
00:21:13
Kev NUFC
You could play him centre half. You could play him centre half against West Ham and burn him out if you wanted and he wouldn't let you down.
00:21:18
Jo
He could though, couldn't he?
00:21:18
Kev NUFC
You could put him up front now, he'd probably be too many to like being a drugler.
00:21:19
Jo
I think he bloody brilliant in 10 to half.
00:21:22
Kev NUFC
Honestly, that guy was unbelievable.
00:21:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
his his work ethic His work ethic and work great is where we want it to be and what we'd like to see, isn't it?
00:21:28
Jo
Yeah. Yeah.
00:21:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
He is.
00:21:30
Jo
Uh-huh.
00:21:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
And if you ask me when we first signed him, by the way, my opinion of him is just completely switched.
00:21:34
Jo
Nobody believed.
00:21:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's mental. But
00:21:38
Kev NUFC
I was one of the rare ones who said there was a player in there. I actually backed up him in Hostelu, not with the player together, but as I said this to him about Hostelu and Jolyon. That's my claim to fame forever now.
00:21:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, we didn't witness that.
00:21:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
So ah ah we can't, we can't, we just think you might be not telling the truth there, but that's fine.
00:21:50
Kev NUFC
He didn't.
00:21:52
Jo
We don't know how true this is to be fair.
00:21:52
Kev NUFC
People that would know that they were listening did. All four people, all four people who know me away from his podcast know.
00:22:00
Jo
yeah
00:22:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I agree with you guys on the start and line up. I think it probably pick changes. I don't think he will make any, obviously other than Kev saying obviously the force changes. Yep. But um don't think anyone deserves to be dropped from that start and line up. And I think Eddie himself knows he has found the perfect balance currently.
00:22:20
Kev NUFC
magic word.
00:22:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah So yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing and how we will line up tomorrow evening. So I think we'll leave that there and go to our second advert read out by Kev.
00:22:32
Kev NUFC

Jo
That's a lot of football.
00:23:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I hate to break it here, Kev, but we are a football podcast.
00:23:01
Kev NUFC
and
00:23:04
Kev NUFC
We are.
00:23:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we are going to cover football.
00:23:05
Kev NUFC
We're a good couple of podcasts, all of them.
00:23:07
Jo
We're only about five, six months in, but Kev's learning.
00:23:10
Kev NUFC
Yeah, I'm getting there.
00:23:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he's getting there. He's getting there.
00:23:12
Kev NUFC
I'm a little bit slow. It takes time to, yeah.
00:23:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, yeah. Okay.
00:23:18
Jo
Oh, dear me.
00:23:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right then. So ah ah just to round off the pod this evening. I thought we would quickly cover, well, not quickly, but I thought we would talk about, give some West Ham some airtime, quickly talk about the team that we think we would face and what challenges they may bring. um um And as always, we will do our score predictions at the end of the pod. So I'm going to be honest, I've not watched a lot of West Ham this season, but I do know they are struggling a little bit, bit, um aren't they, since
00:23:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Obviously, new manager, etc. etc so yeah so I actually really quite like West Ham as a club, which is a
00:23:58
Kev NUFC
for the opportunity.
00:24:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
don't really like seeing yeah so yeah I don't really like seeing clubs like that struggle. But how are we feeling? What do we think we could possibly struggle or what challenges do they think do we think that they may bring?
00:24:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Kev, come on.
00:24:21
Kev NUFC
I have watched probably a little bit more West Ham because my one of my best friends is a massive West Ham fan. I think I told the story either on a practice pod or a real pod where he was at the 4-3 win.
00:24:31
Kev NUFC
with me which was amazing, that was an unbelievable time to be alive. yeah, I think in terms of how are we going to hurt West Ham, I genuinely think it's going to be a wide play. You look at West Ham's team, and Emerson, the left-back, I've always liked him but it does look like this season he might now finally be past it after his Chelsea days and obviously West Ham now.
00:24:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:24:50
Kev NUFC
Wambasaka hasn't really done what we thought he was going to do when he left my night and went to West Ham. He struggled
00:24:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
No.
00:24:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
yep Yeah.
00:24:56
Kev NUFC
And then I think Max Kilman as well, he was brilliant at Wolves, I sent a half, but again, he's had a, I don't know if he just had a torrid time because it's a new manager, a new way of playing, but with Moyes for so long, but it looks like we're really struggling against Pace.
00:25:09
Kev NUFC
I think the danger man is obviously Jared Bowen, and Lucas Paquetta. How is he still playing by the way?
00:25:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:25:15
Kev NUFC
I'm sure he got found guilty of like, getting booked and stuff on purpose and to not only got banned for a year but quite allowed to keep playing until whatever happens but yeah i think with danger men for them it's got to be Somerville he's he's very fast in terms of a winger he's probably going to be up against Tino and Jared Bourne up against Lewis Hall but i'm a bit i shouldn't say this i'm a little bit less worried about Jared Bourne because Lewis Hall's in such good form well that could come back to Horner's
00:25:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
up No idea.
00:25:19
Jo
Mad, isn't it? Yeah.
00:25:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh no.
00:25:29
Jo
Yeah.
00:25:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:25:42
Jo
in
00:25:42
Kev NUFC
and he scores two or three.
00:25:43
Kev NUFC
I hope that doesn't happen, but I'm just trying to be honest. my weird one, even though he doesn't start, Danny Ying, he always seems to do well against Newcastle, so if he comes off a bench, I'll be a little bit like, ooh.
00:25:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Yeah.
00:25:51
Jo
Yeah.
00:25:53
Kev NUFC
But I do love my number four, Carlos Sola. I saw him play for Valencia when I went to Valencia to watch Valencia after the Gomadrid. He's an unbelievable player. and I don't know why he didn't start with us game, he came off a bench, but I'm a big fan of him as well.
00:26:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:26:04
Kev NUFC
So I think if we're going to hurt them, it's going to be pace and it's going to be out wide. I think if they're going to hurt us, probably going to be down our right and were left with Somerville.
00:26:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:26:14
Kev NUFC
And again, Sucek aerial threat is going to be really, really big even more. we've We've lost Dan Byrne through suspension and we've got Thomas Sucek who is unbelievable in the air so and we need to be very careful defending corners.
00:26:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Can I
00:26:30
Jo
you I haven't watched as much as Kev would have, again, for reasons that Kev's just said, really, because he's got a pal who's a West Ham fan, why don't? So, really, it is just me keeping up on general news.
00:26:41
Jo
I know, obviously, they haven't been brilliant this season. I think, what was it? Nil Nil against Everton in their last game, was it?
00:26:48
Kev NUFC
of it and yeah.
00:26:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
I thought that last game was not enough.
00:26:50
Jo
So, I mean,
00:26:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh no, it was us.
00:26:53
Jo
Yeah, I'm sure they drew against Evan anyway.
00:26:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
The one before, not in the forest, they got beat by three now.
00:26:58
Jo
All right.
00:26:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
So.
00:27:01
Jo
Can't remember. But yeah, it's pretty much the same sort of players that Kev's mentioned, I'll be honest. Paquetta Bowen is always a worry.
00:27:09
Jo
I'd still love Bowen to play for us, to be fair. So he's the player that if you were going to say who would just take out the West Ham team immediately, I would say Bowen.
00:27:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:27:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah.
00:27:17
Jo
it's almost pretty obvious with him being a right winger but it's it's for multiple reasons he is he is a great player to be fair overall he can be dangerous but Kev's right our because of Hall's kind of form that he's on at the minute I will like um right I can't speak sorry
00:27:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
bethal Yeah.
00:27:32
Jo
Our right side is probably still deemed as being slightly weaker, so some of them might cause some issues down the left. But again, it's going to be interesting with Bern being out, you bang on there. So Kelly's got some kind of big boots to fill, so to speak, with that and role, which we do expect Kelly to be the one to fill it. But again, we've got so much going forward.
00:27:52
Jo
I'll not see my prediction yet, but I do see a decent amount of goals in the game, I've got to be honest, and we just need to hit them hard straight away. Kind of get something, get us on the front foot, them on the back foot, and get them kind of worried about it, if you know what I mean.
00:28:03
Kev NUFC
Yeah,
00:28:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Love it.
00:28:06
Kev NUFC
yeah it's funny, it's funny you say actually, because we both West Ham and Newcastle both scored 13 goals in the league.
00:28:12
Kev NUFC
And we've conceded 11, we've conceded 19. So we've scored the same amount of us, but we've conceded eight more.
00:28:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Wow.
00:28:18
Kev NUFC
So for me, it's a case of
00:28:18
Jo
Yeah, so they're weaker at the back then.
00:28:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:28:21
Kev NUFC
can we can we just attack and attack and attack?
00:28:24
Jo
Mmhmm.
00:28:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:28:25
Kev NUFC
In terms of how West Ham play, obviously David Moyes will have sat back and other than not in the forest, we spoke on this pod before, we sometimes struggle against teams like that, but we were so good against the forest, I wouldn't be as worried.
00:28:35
Kev NUFC
Lot of Portuguese teams like to historically, when he was Spain manager, Real Madrid, I can't remember the team, he was and it was a severe in another team in Spain, I can't remember. The times I've seen his teams and normally like to play out from the back in terms of West Ham style of play has been very up and down a lot.
00:28:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm hmm.
00:28:53
Kev NUFC
fatigue So we're not actually sure what we're going to get, but I think just attack them.
00:28:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:28:57
Kev NUFC
Let them worry about us. Let them worry about us. Let them worry about our threats. We go out and we've got the fans behind us under the lights and James's park and have a reason why you shouldn't leave because you'll lose under the lights and James's park.
00:29:07
Jo
True.
00:29:09
Kev NUFC
But yeah, I think let them worry about us and just honestly just attack, give Isaac a ball, give Gordon a ball, run at them and and hopefully turn them to face their own goal. That should be enough, but fingers crossed.
00:29:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. I agree with a pair of you and the only thing I will say is that I don't think West Ham's back line is, um wouldn't say strong enough, but I'll use that term strong enough to deal with the Newcastle United high press. So this leads nicely into our predictions. I'm going to kick it off. I'm going for a three nil Newcastle, obviously. Joe.
00:29:19
Jo
Yeah.
00:29:45
Jo
I'm going 4-1.
00:29:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh. Yeah, good one.
00:29:49
Jo
Lots of goals.
00:29:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Kev? Lots of goals.
00:29:51
Kev NUFC
Wow.
00:29:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Come on.
00:29:53
Kev NUFC
Go on man, I'll go 4-0.
00:29:55
Jo
Yes.
00:29:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ooh. Did I get it right last time? I feel like I got one of the scores right last time.
00:30:00
Jo
Year 3-1.
00:30:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Pressure's on. Pressure is on.
00:30:05
Jo
I mean, to be fair, I'd take any of the scores we've just talked about there.
00:30:05
Kev NUFC
Still Ian, still Ian Scott.
00:30:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ian was on holiday, so I just did it in honor of Ian because he couldn't give his couldn't give his prediction.
00:30:11
Jo
In his honour.
00:30:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
So yeah.
00:30:15
Kev NUFC
He was only on holiday. He wasn't gone for good.
00:30:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know what I mean, you couldn't give it.
00:30:20
Jo
It fell so long.
00:30:21
Kev NUFC
In honor of Ian.
00:30:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
You've gone so long ago. Anyway, thank you both for joining me on pod today and thank you everyone for listening and we'll be back on Tuesday with a brand new episode.
