Introduction & Guest Appearance

Global Sports Podcast Network
Welcome to the Daily Newcastle Podcast, part of GSPN. My name's Iain Mackay and I'm hosting a special crossover podcast where I'm joined by my black and white buddy, Joanne Ayres. Hello Joanne, are you all right?
00:00:27
Jo
I'm great, Iain are you?
00:00:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm fab. I'm looking forward to this. I'm pleased to say in our pre-match chat, neither Louie nor Adarsh have been too smug yet because they're Liverpool supporters.
00:00:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Can you imagine? Can you imagine just knowing that you're going to win every game you start and, you know, not really fearing anybody? Because I think it's fair to say being top of the Premier League, top of the Champions League and coasting them to be fair.
00:00:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
the Best team in the world at the moment.

Liverpool's Current Form & Humility

00:00:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Welcome, Louis and Adash.
00:00:57
Louie Easton
Well, I thank you very much.
00:00:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is that fair enough?
00:01:00
Louie Easton
No, no, I completely agree. I do think it is fair enough that we are the best team in the world at the moment. I've been saying that all week since we beat City and Real Madrid and Leverkusen. But, you know, I'm not going to go into every match even now with the sort of mindset that we're just going to win because we're about so to head into December, the busiest time of the calendar and the English format so uh not overconfident i believe is the word that i'm looking for oh
00:01:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Humble, I would say, Louis, humble.
00:01:32
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:01:34
Louie Easton
thank you i'll take that as well
00:01:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
But, you know, I think that's ah ah i think that's a very yeah good characteristic to be showing when you're in that position, because I know both Joe and I, we'd be gloating, wouldn't we? Whoever we talked to, if it was us, we would be gloating.
00:01:46
Adarsh
yet
00:01:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, we wouldn't. We're better people than that.
00:01:49
Jo
Desperate times in Newcastle always need Ian.
00:01:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
We are better people than that.

Newcastle's Upcoming Match & Hopes

00:01:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Look, welcome to our podcast.
00:01:54
Jo
yeah
00:01:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're going to preview the match on Wednesday, which which should be really, really scary for us, given how poorly we've played in the two matches in the last and last week.
00:01:55
Louie Easton
Thank you.
00:02:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
However, I have a little sneaking suspicion that it's going to be a lot closer than we were worrying about. But let me ask you, boys, you know, what are the highlights of the season so far and where has it come from?

Liverpool's Success Under New Management

00:02:24
Adarsh
Yeah, it's been an it's been an incredible season so far. Obviously, none of us, it's fair to say none of us Liverpool fans would have expected such a great start from on a slot coming in as a new manager, overtaking from Jurgen Klopp.
00:02:30
Louie Easton
no definitely not
00:02:36
Adarsh
I mean, I mean, there's so many highlights actually to pick from, but I mean, this week has been incredible. The 2-0 win against Real Madrid and 2-0 against City I mean, it doesn't come, for any football fan, it doesn't come as good as that.
00:02:46
Adarsh
So that's probably been the highlight of the season. I think the football we're playing, it's a lot more controlled, a lot more ruthless as well. I think we're a team that a lot of people are going to be fed fearful of playing, but yeah, it's just been an incredible season.
00:03:00
Adarsh
I think we're getting better and better as the games go on. And that's kind of a scary thought for other teams. But like you mentioned,
00:03:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
you You're damn right, Adarsh.
00:03:06
Adarsh
like you yeah it Like you mentioned, we can't get too ahead of ourselves, so we're just appreciating it as it as as the season's going. So, yeah, buzzing, but yeah, there's still a long way to go.
00:03:17
Louie Easton
would have taken this before the season started, let's just say that.
00:03:20
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:03:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
Of course.
00:03:20
Louie Easton
Do you know when with a new manager as well, I was actually hoping we'd just get top four and maybe a quarter final at best in the Champions League, but to be top of the tables, tables is just, it's incredible.
00:03:25
Adarsh
in
00:03:32
Adarsh
Tables.
00:03:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
And many points clear as well. up Is it nine points clear of the teams in second?
00:03:39
Louie Easton
Yeah, nine points.
00:03:39
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:03:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's incredible. It's still only the start of December.
00:03:41
Jo
Look.
00:03:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, we've been hoping for about a month that you were going to do a Tottenham and, you know, win nine of your first 11 games and then lose the next nine or whatever it was they did last year. But there doesn't seem to be any signs of there being any chinks in the armour or or cracks in the plaster or anything like that. But we're quite hopeful, I think, that Newcastle might be able to put a dink in there.

Newcastle's Inconsistent Performances & Big Game Potential

00:04:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
What do you think, Joe? What what would you pick out for Louis and Adarsh about Newcastle's season so far?
00:04:14
Jo
Ooh, very different to yours. Not as pleasurable, let's say, at the start, but ours has been like a real roller coaster, but we often joke as Newcastle fans that we're so used to it being a roller coaster that we're not really phased by it half the time but yes it's i don't know it's it's a strange one right i'm like i'm i'm kind of fearful of playing you guys but then not at the same time because as ian touched on before we actually start talking new castle do love to turn up for the big games which is brilliant except it infuriates us that we don't want to turn up for the other games hence our recent results so this is why wednesday is one of those that
00:04:44
Louie Easton
Hmm.
00:04:53
Jo
on paper yeah you should get you should smash us and you might umm I'm not saying it's not gonna happen but at the same time I fully expect our players to do what we usually do and really turn up against you guys so I think it'll make for a really interesting interesting game I've got to be honest I'm looking forward I'll be there and like I said before I am right next to your fans which is either gonna be brilliant or very painful so I'm gonna be having a few drinks pre-match right to help me either way just saying
00:05:13
Adarsh
a
00:05:13
Louie Easton
no
00:05:18
Louie Easton
ah ah they I mean it will be very painful for your legs going up those stairs I've heard some awful things about those steps up you're used to it okay well that's fair enough just unbelievable
00:05:25
Jo
I'm used to it.
00:05:25
Adarsh
She's there for one.
00:05:26
Jo
It's fine.
00:05:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
so seven It's the seventh tier where the family gets to sit.
00:05:31
Jo
It's fine.
00:05:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that gets harder every year for me, you know.
00:05:33
Jo
It's like hard training up in Newcastle.
00:05:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
That gets harder for me every year.
00:05:36
Louie Easton
But the thing is, you can still be so loud.
00:05:38
Louie Easton
You can still be so loud from up there. I've always been really impressed with Newcastle's home support, you know, St. James's Park. I remember when you were in the Champions League playing against, I think it was PSG, and it was just unbelievably loud.
00:05:49
Adarsh
With PSG, I remember that.
00:05:52
Louie Easton
It was incredible.
00:05:54
Jo
It was unreal.
00:05:54
Louie Easton
You know, a proper, proper European night.

Newcastle's Fan Culture & Traditions

00:05:58
Louie Easton
And i've ah ah i When I went to Newcastle, I always say this, I saw so many Newcastle shirts compared to how many shirts there are when they' when I'm in a different city and it wasn't even a match day.
00:06:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely.
00:06:16
Jo
It's standard attire up here, it is, to be fair.
00:06:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Standard attire, yeah.
00:06:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh
00:06:18
Jo
We've got full collections, no wardrobe.
00:06:19
Adarsh
uniform
00:06:20
Jo
It is, I'm not gonna lie. I've got a wardrobe with a multiple Newcastle shirts in a row. So yeah, it's, you know, you've got one for every day of the week for a few weeks running.
00:06:26
Louie Easton
And I've never seen a beer logo so many times in my life.
00:06:27
Jo
It's fine.
00:06:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Of course.
00:06:30
Louie Easton
The Newcastle Brown Ale one all over that city.
00:06:33
Jo
We all want it back, you know. We all want it back.
00:06:35
Louie Easton
Yeah, it's so beautiful.
00:06:35
Jo
But it's long gone, we know that.
00:06:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
And if you're not wearing the shirt, of course, you just take your shirt off and you go to the match bare chested.
00:06:37
Jo
It's fine.
00:06:40
Adarsh
It's beautiful.
00:06:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well,
00:06:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's December, so you should see a few of those on Wednesday. Even the women, even the women, that's true, isn't it, Joe?
00:06:43
Louie Easton
yeah
00:06:47
Jo
You'll see some of that, yeah. I was going to say after a few Vodkas I might be tempted. If we win, I'll be extra tempted. and
00:06:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, to be fair, we are going to need, and and it's not necessarily the best conditions for this to happen, but we need to conjure up the spirit of those nights against PSG and the Saturday night against Arsenal.
00:07:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
We need to pull together because the one thing that the fan base, the team, the management aren't at the moment is united.
00:07:13
Louie Easton
Mmm.
00:07:14
Jo
we do give
00:07:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
We had a very stop start to the season, decent amount of points, but performances were poor. Then we started playing well, but losing.
00:07:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Then we started playing well and winning. And we beat, we we were very disappointed in a way at Chelsea, but on the Wednesday after that, we we smashed their B team, knocked them out of the cup. We beat Arsenal. We went to High Flying Nottingham Forest and took them apart to beat them 3-1. So the international break is kind of, for some reason, derailed us from that runner form, which is where we were. Somehow we lost 2-0 against a West Ham side that took the field looking like they were going into a haunted house. it was ah But you know the way we attacked them and the way we let them score
00:08:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
gave them the confidence to close out a two mil And despite Eddie saying that we were denied a win in the last minute at Crystal Palace, to be fair, Crystal Palace had 16 shots.
00:08:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
We didn't have any in that game. It was Mark Gay who scored a long goal for us. That's not the form we wanted to be in to come and play you guys.
00:08:28
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:08:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I have a sneaky feeling that we've got players who could get themselves up to do our intensity identity that we're so proud of against teams like Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, but actually I think a few of them can't be asked putting that in when they're playing away at Palace, or they've got a game like West Ham where they're just expected to turn up steamroller to these teams.
00:08:43
Louie Easton
yeah
00:09:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now maybe that's that's identifying an attitude problem within the team, hopefully Eddy can sort that out and we will give you a decent game. If he doesn't then it may be a very much an easier run at St. James's Park than you guys are used to. How are your travelling away fans? Are you selling out everywhere you go? Making a noise?
00:09:25
Louie Easton
Well, i think I think they are just so loud wherever they go. i was

Challenges of Playing Away at Newcastle

00:09:32
Louie Easton
I'm not one of the ones fortunate enough to go to these away fixtures because it's such an exclusive thing, but I did manage to get into an away match last season at Fulham and it was just loud the entire game. I'm just blown away by the fact that they are still so loud towards the end of the match because I couldn't do it. My throat was gone at half time. I couldn't couldn't ah couldn't keep up. But and the thing is with Newcastle, it's such a horrible place to go for an away fan. Joe, you're used to the walk up to the seventh tier, but not Liverpool fans. so Absolutely not. But the last time we went to Newcastle was quite a quite a nice visit, actually.
00:10:13
Adarsh
Yeah, there was a lot of chaos at the end. Obviously Nunez getting that double, so hopefully he can bring the same one on Wednesday.
00:10:19
Louie Easton
That would be nice. Rested for that match as well, didn't play, didn't start against Man City, came on in the second half.
00:10:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
that
00:10:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, he's a little bit of a nemesis for us already. I know the rest of the Premier League seems to have reservations about doing this, but every time I've seen him play, he's been a killer up front.
00:10:31
Jo
no
00:10:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Look, I'm going to pause there and ask Joe to give us our first advert, which I think is for Zencaster Joe.
00:10:47
Jo
Yep, nice. Here at Global Sports Podcast Network, we spent a long time selecting our delivery platform. Zencaster came out with a clear winner with 4K video recording from your phone and AI editing that automatically removes all those ums and ahs. Super easy to start a podcast. Sounds great and is delivered efficiently. If you're ready to tell your story, check out the link in the short description and to learn more about Zencaster.
00:11:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Excellent, thanks Joanne. Now I know I'm going to ask Joanne to basically list your team from 1 to 11 when she talks about the players that we fear in the Liverpool side.
00:11:14
Jo
Right.
00:11:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it might be more interesting for Joanne and I to hear if there are any players.

Newcastle's Key Players & Threats

00:11:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
That you guys are thinking could be a thorn in your side on Wednesday from the Newcastle team.
00:11:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
What do you think, Louis?
00:11:35
Louie Easton
adash do you want to go first adash actually
00:11:37
Adarsh
Yeah, I mean, I've always been a big fan of Bruno Gomorrah's. I think as a midfielder, I think he he kind of epitomizes everything that Newcastle kind of stands for. I'm just a big fan of his all-round play.
00:11:47
Adarsh
I think he's he's a brilliant midfielder. He can kind of do a bit of everything as well. And when we look at that midfield battle between him and Gravenberg, probably as like the sort of deep-lying midfielders, I think that's going to be a really interesting battle.
00:11:52
Jo
It.
00:11:59
Adarsh
so I'm kind of looking at him as like a player that he's going to be a big influence if Newcastle are going to get anything out of the game. And then I'll say probably Gordon and Isak you're attacking threats. I mean, Isak kind of always has a knack of scoring against us as well, particularly at Anfield. His two last appearances he scored at.
00:12:16
Adarsh
and phil So I think he's going to be a threat. Those are probably the main players I'll say I'm um'm obviously like kind of wary of. And I think they're like you mentioned, Joe, that those are sort of players that will turn up for the big occasion as well.
00:12:23
Louie Easton
yeah
00:12:28
Adarsh
And that's why I'm kind of fearful of them. I don't know what you think, Louis.
00:12:32
Louie Easton
Yeah, well, I'm I know that he hasn't really taken the world by storm since he came back from his suspension. But Sandro Tonali I just know the class that he brings, you know, he's got that sort of old style Italian class about him, you know, calm on the ball, quick when he needs to be.
00:12:51
Louie Easton
and can cover ground quite well as well.
00:12:53
Jo
Mm hmm.
00:12:54
Louie Easton
i I know that he hasn't been, you know, one of your standout players since he's come back, but I just know that he's reliable and he's good for these big matches as well after playing for years in the San Siro as well.
00:13:10
Louie Easton
it will be a proper, loud European night at St James's Park as well. He's one that stands out to me. And I'd say the Newcastle fallbacks are quality. You know, Lewis Hall, what a season he's been having so far at left back. And as well, Tino Livrimento, someone that I would like to say on a personal note, I went to school with. You're above me, I didn't know him, but still went there. there. um But he's he's he's just a ah ah perfect sort of modern fallback. You know, he can dribble, he can hold on to the ball well, but also
00:13:45
Louie Easton
can cover ground to get back. And I think the defence in general from from Newcastle away at Palace, Dan Byrne as well with that goal line clearance, was pretty impressive. It's just a shame that the attack couldn't really knit it all together when they needed to. Like you said, no shots.
00:14:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
You're right. You're right to pick out the two fillbacks, although interestingly, when we were talking about it and yesterday or earlier on, twice we've talked about it.
00:14:04
Jo
Hmm.
00:14:13
Jo
Yep.
00:14:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was calling to make a little bit of a change from that horribly sterile performance going forward against Palace.
00:14:14
Jo
Yeah. That's the day, yeah.
00:14:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Trippier coming in at right back instead of Tino might be the right option against
00:14:25
Louie Easton
Hmm.

Liverpool's Midfield Strengths under Anna Slott

00:14:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Liverpool because at least then we ought to be able to guarantee some sort of decent service from corners, some sort of decent balls coming into the middle.
00:14:34
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:14:34
Jo
Yeah.
00:14:35
Adarsh
I'll wait for you.
00:14:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Then you've got Isaac in the middle who's not necessarily the big sort of center forward who's going to get on the end of any crosses. But if the cross is right, I think that can cause mayhem. Joanne, who in particular, I mean, I'm a massive fan of Nunez, as I say, and I think I might be in the minority of all Premier League watches, but Nunez always impresses me with his work rate and the quality of the shooting when he's playing against Newcastle.
00:15:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
who else Who else do you think we've got to be scared of in the Liverpool team?
00:15:07
Jo
Unfortunately, yeah.
00:15:13
Jo
I mean, Salah's the obvious pick, isn't he, really? He's just unbelievable. I love Salah as well, I'll be honest. There's only certain players that I love outside Newcastle, and Salah's one of them. I'm gonna have to say, unfortunately, because he's about to play us, and if he wants to turn up and he is let to play his game,
00:15:30
Jo
he's he's a scary prospect all the time he's just an outstanding player i'll be honest and if he leaves the Premier League he's also one of those players that i don't even want to see even though he doesn't play for us i don't want to see him leave the Premier League certain players i didn't like i didn't want Aguero to leave even though blessing me doesn't he didn't play football ball much longer after he left but Salah is just one of those that he can be magical when he's on form so he terrifies me Diaz as well it's ah it's ah one of those that if he plays his game he's always scared me um um As a complete side note of this, by the way, I absolutely love your lu Louis Diaz song to the point where I'm worried that if I've had enough to drink, which will happen on Wednesday, by the way, and you guys start singing it, I'm fearful I might join in.
00:16:04
Louie Easton
Yeah, I love it.
00:16:13
Jo
That I'm going to get chined. So, you know, yeah so it's a one of those.
00:16:14
Louie Easton
Oh yeah. I was in the pub for the City Match, we were all singing it in there, it was magical.
00:16:18
Jo
but
00:16:18
Adarsh
Yeah, a good time.
00:16:21
Jo
It's a great song, man.
00:16:21
Adarsh
It's a great time.
00:16:22
Jo
I played it for my dad the other the day. I was like, dad, you've got to listen to this.
00:16:24
Louie Easton
And it's so...
00:16:25
Jo
And I played it where your fans were singing it. I was like, it's that's amazing, that man. When everyone's singing it, I was like, that's brilliant.
00:16:30
Louie Easton
And it's so funny because it's to the tune of Bella Ciao, an Italian song, and he's Colombian.
00:16:30
Jo
I love that. I just love songs. Oh, no.
00:16:36
Louie Easton
Makes no sense.
00:16:36
Jo
But I love that song.
00:16:37
Louie Easton
But it's it's so good, it's so good.
00:16:37
Jo
I know it is. But it works perfectly as well, though. It's it's been brilliantly put together.
00:16:41
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:16:42
Jo
it's No, it doesn't work perfectly. But absolutely straying away from the actual subject there. But anyway, hard to get that one in.
00:16:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
we have We have focused on the obvious front three as to who we fear.
00:16:49
Jo
But yeah.
00:16:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
However, I want to ask you guys, last year last year, I didn't rate the Liverpool midfield all that highly. I thought it was a bit in and out. I thought anyone who's buying Endo to prop up the midfield is struggling to have a proper choice, if you like, for ah for a title-chasing team.
00:17:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
but That's completely reversed this year. Can you put your finger on what the difference is? Because it's the same personnel as far as I can see.
00:17:23
Louie Easton
Yeah, well, the the obvious answer is Anna Slott. He's just completely changed it all around. you know He's made he started to play players in their more natural positions, apart from Grabenburg, but he said he used to play at number six, and now he's doing this again under Anna Slott, despite playing a more attacking role during his later years at Ajax.
00:17:44
Louie Easton
the few times he managed to get into the Bayern Munich team when he was there, he's just looked so comfortable in that role. He has this sort of seamless ability to move through midfield and start ah applying supports to the attacks. You know, Curtis Jones as well being played to his strengths, his dribbling and his but ability now to sort of release the ball later. He's still sometimes guilty of keeping it for too long.
00:18:10
Louie Easton
But as well, Dominic Sombosly, someone who has really gone under the radar this season because he's only got one goal in the Premier League.
00:18:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sorry.
00:18:17
Louie Easton
That was against Southampton after a mishap from their defence.
00:18:22
Louie Easton
He's been terrific carrying the ball forward and able to support Salah on the right when he needs to. I'm i' just loving this new midfield that we have where everyone's being played to their strengths and there's a lot more running in that sort of channel as well now.
00:18:39
Louie Easton
an underclop which sounds almost crazy to say but they're defending where they need to and attacking where they need to and moving together as a team and that's what Liverpool have just been terrific at this season.
00:18:52
Adarsh
Yeah. Just, just to add to that, actually, I just think in terms of the midfield, we've got really nice balance in terms of obviously the energy that sort of, so Boslach, Gravenberg brings to the midfield, but another player in midfield has really impressed me.
00:19:02
Adarsh
It's McAllister this season.
00:19:03
Louie Easton
Oh yeah of course.
00:19:03
Adarsh
He brings that sort of calmness, composure, his ability on the ball, his creativity. is absolutely outstanding. And if you look at that Liverpool midfield, I mean, the one that starts against City Gravenberg, McAllister and Sir Boslak, they, you look at it on paper and probably a lot of Premier League fans will say this, like, it doesn't look the strongest, but as a three, as a collective, they just work so well.
00:19:20
Louie Easton
Hmm.
00:19:22
Adarsh
And yeah, it's just a brilliant, brilliant sort of midfield this season.
00:19:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
and That's a testament to Arnie's slot, as you say. If he could put good players together and make them greater than the sum of their parts, then then that's fantastic.
00:19:36
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:19:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Curtis Jones, by the way, I'm noticing this year arriving late in the box in a sort of almost Brian Robson kind of way. Is that something that is new? I don't remember him doing it before.
00:19:47
Louie Easton
No, he usually used to hang around on the edge of the box, and and and ah especially during the time when he just came up from the academy. Or sometimes when he'd get the opportunity in a counter-attack, he'd run through. But his the the problem with Curtis Jones, I think, recently is his shooting, because he could he has a lot of chances, but he doesn't really have the sort of final touch.
00:20:09
Louie Easton
He usually likes the ball at his feet for too long, or when he does release it, it's a weak shot near to the goalkeeper. I think that's a part of his game that he just needs to work on to perfect.
00:20:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Excellent. Now, it will be remiss of me not to ask you if you can give us the updated position on the contract situation for Virgil, Trent and Mo Salah.
00:20:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is there any update that we we need on that?
00:20:41
Louie Easton
No.
00:20:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
and

Contract Situations & Fan Trust in FSG

00:20:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Because although what you're saying,
00:20:43
Adarsh
yeah,
00:20:43
Louie Easton
we were We wish there was.
00:20:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
from what you're saying,
00:20:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
You've actually got a new team that's that's replacing those players anyway.
00:20:57
Adarsh
yeah I think.
00:20:58
Louie Easton
well
00:20:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Quansah will be in instead of Van Dyke quality.
00:21:00
Adarsh
From, from a Liverpool fans point of view, it's kind of like, yeah, they're, they're our three best players. They all, they are, and they deserve to stay at the club.
00:21:07
Louie Easton
yeah
00:21:08
Adarsh
It's just one of those where, yeah, I don't really know what the board are doing and maybe there are, there's obviously negotiations and talks happening behind the scenes that we don't know of. but yeah, I mean, I think I've heard this, I don't know how today if there's been talk of Liverpool offering Salah a one year deal.
00:21:16
Louie Easton
well Well, there's there's always speculation around these players, but, you know, whatever FSG do, I trust them because they've done this incredible project where they've bought slot in and had this vision that we could really challenge for everything.
00:21:23
Adarsh
I don't really know what it is, but all I know is that we've got to do something together. You can't let them go through three.
00:21:40
Jo
the
00:21:43
Louie Easton
But our recruitment has always been unbelievable. You forget some of the signings we've made. You know, Robertson from Hull for eight and a half million.
00:21:52
Louie Easton
What a player he has been. for all these years.
00:21:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
right
00:21:55
Louie Easton
Trent from our academy, and you mentioned Quansah and I find that interesting because Kwanzaa hasn't been played at all by Slott recently. where He played him at right back against Manchester City when Trent had to go off.
00:22:09
Louie Easton
But we do have incredible backup in all of these positions. You know, Joe Gomez, he was terrific against Manchester City. Terrific. I can't remember.
00:22:19
Louie Easton
It might have been against Arsenal earlier on this season. where he made a bit of a cameo towards the end. And we do have fantastic wing options as well. You know, if Kiesa can get fit, I'm sure he can be an answer.
00:22:32
Louie Easton
If not, Ben Doak, who's on loan at Middlesbrough and impressing with Scotland and impressing in the championship, he would be one for the future. Forget he's only 18 years old.
00:22:43
Louie Easton
And Trent, you've got the backup right there, Conor Bradley. He has been amazing.
00:22:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, a great player.
00:22:49
Adarsh
<unk>d insane
00:22:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
He is a great player.
00:22:49
Louie Easton
eat he so yeah
00:22:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
How old is he?
00:22:52
Louie Easton
So I think he's what, 21, 22, something like that, and he's already captain of the Northern Ireland team, already captain of a national team at that young age, and he plays with so much maturity.
00:22:53
Adarsh
Anyone? 22? Anyone 22? Yeah.
00:22:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, yeah, just. Yeah.
00:23:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
i'm just I'm just grateful they could only pick 11 to play. joan What do you think?
00:23:11
Jo
I'm with you all the way there, I'll be honest.
00:23:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:23:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Look, I got us to talk a little bit more about that because because I want to do an advert now and it'll give us just the right amount of time to be able to go through our predictions. So I'm going to put in there and tell you all about.

Match Predictions & Bloopers

00:24:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Last five minutes, guys. What's that? Just over a minute each for us to give a prediction and reasons why. So I'm going to start with you, Louis.
00:24:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
What do you think the score is going to be?
00:24:16
Louie Easton
I don't like making score predictions ever because I always, but whenever I do, they're usually correct. So that's been my ah luck recently.
00:24:27
Louie Easton
Liverpool win, obviously, it would be strange not to go with a Liverpool win based on our current form, but I think this is a little bit of a break from a European giant for us.
00:24:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
not
00:24:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's what I'm gonna do. well
00:24:38
Louie Easton
I don't think we'll go into this game expecting to walk over all over Newcastle.
00:24:44
Louie Easton
And i will I will say probably a 2-0 win for Liverpool. I don't see us conceding a goal unless it's really early and Newcastle just haven't proven enough in their attacks recently.
00:24:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
2-0, so you're predicting Nick Pope's going to run out of the box, fall over, hit the ball with his face and then pick it up.
00:25:06
Louie Easton
I forgot about that one. and That was brilliant.
00:25:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank God I was at a wedding that day and I missed it all.
00:25:09
Jo
but
00:25:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just saw the highlights, if you can call them highlights. That Nick Pope blooper, by the way, is on all the goalie bloopers now. The ones where the African guys are throwing the ball into their own net and that's got Nick Pope falling over and smashing the ground with his face.
00:25:25
Louie Easton
Well, it gave we wanted to give our former goalkeeper, Loris Carius, an appearance in a League Cup final. You can't blame us.
00:25:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know I don't. I don't. He played well as well. Joanne, I'm going to ask for a Newcastle perspective. What are you going to predict?
00:25:39
Jo
Right, as you know, I'll never ever predict us to lose, so aside from actual and real feelings, I'm gonna go 1-1.
00:25:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Not much abandoned with fog. One all OK.
00:25:48
Jo
There we go, I like that, right? But I'll take 1-1 before it gets abandoned.
00:25:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Right.
00:25:54
Jo
I've gotta have some glimmer of hope, and like I say, I think we'll turn up. I'm gonna go 1-1, and that's about all I've gotta say about it.
00:26:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK, you've got a little bit longer to do your production, Adash.
00:26:08
Jo
no because i'm so i don't know yeah adash give me more info
00:26:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
What do you think you're going to do?
00:26:13
Adarsh
I think, I actually think Newcastle will score purely because I think it is St. James's Park is the atmosphere. I think you guys, like you said, against some of the bigger teams, you kind of do turn up and I'm kind of wary of that.
00:26:22
Adarsh
So I do think, I think it will be 2-1, but I think we would have to come from behind similar to last season when we played you guys at St.
00:26:28
Louie Easton
Hmm. Hmm.
00:26:30
Adarsh
James's Park. because I do think it's a tough game to go. And if you if we can come away with three points, I'll be delighted because yeah, Newcastle aren't playing the best football, but it's still St. James's Park, tough place. So I'm going to go 2-1.
00:26:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
OK, well, I'm hoping you're by by picking the same as last season, you're predicting that Van Dyke will get sent off after half an hour.
00:26:48
Adarsh
Oh, okay. No, not I'm not predicting that. I'm just predicting the same score.
00:26:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
That'll give us a that'll give us a hand, won't it?
00:26:51
Adarsh
line but
00:26:52
Louie Easton
Oh god, a Van Dyke suspension right now would be awful.
00:26:53
Jo
That's.
00:26:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, that's a red card, a red card each in each of the last two games. So that might that might even things up. Who knows my prediction. I am going to go with Newcastle overpaid superstars that they are um actually showing that they've got a reason why they're paid that much and doing what they did against Chelsea B Team and Arsenal and Nottingham Forest and they will turn up, and we'll turn up they will dominate
00:27:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I'm sure if you if you remember back to the last game, it was the 81st minute before you sort of turned the tables on us and we were all over you for the first 80 minutes. I think it'll be a game like that.
00:27:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
But i think we might I think we might score. And I think that will really throw you guys not used to coming from behind. So I'm going to go for a 3-1 win for Newcastle.
00:27:48
Adarsh
Oh.
00:27:48
Louie Easton
Last season, all we did was come from behind, so I don't know about that.
00:27:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's at...
00:27:50
Jo
You never are, Ian.
00:27:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Not this season.
00:27:53
Adarsh
It's a brave prediction. It's a brave prediction.
00:27:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
This season you're not. I mean, how how long have you been behind for it this season? and Have you ever been behind?
00:28:00
Louie Easton
Yeah, we were behind against Southampton.
00:28:00
Adarsh
It's a phantom you're behind for a bit.
00:28:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
Against?
00:28:04
Adarsh
Hmm.
00:28:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
and At Forest, of course.
00:28:04
Louie Easton
We were behind against Arsenal.
00:28:06
Louie Easton
Forest, yeah, and we didn't come back.
00:28:06
Adarsh
Yeah.
00:28:07
Louie Easton
That was fun.
00:28:10
Louie Easton
I mean, yeah, it was...
00:28:11
Jo
So basically we have to score first, right?
00:28:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
i've got i will I've got to be up, right? If Joanne is predicting a draw, the truth is that if we don't do what I say and somehow, you know,
00:28:16
Jo
Yeah.
00:28:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
the arse kicking that they've had off Eddie since the Palace game has its effect. And they play the way they can play. Because he'd play at a 7.30 kickoff night time game that under the lights, 52,000 Jordy screaming on, we have the players to beat anyone.
00:28:35
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:28:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, you know, the better team than played turned up to play against Paris Saint-Germain.
00:28:43
Louie Easton
Yeah.
00:28:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I'm going to go with that.
00:28:45
Louie Easton
We came from behind against Bryston as well. just So you're predicting that you're predicting that you'll do what Man City and Real Madrid and Leverkusen couldn't do and score against us.
00:28:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
So that's my bold prediction. I'm predicting a Newcastle win.
00:28:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah,

Conclusion & Anticipation for Next Episode

00:28:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
well, Forest did, though, and Southampton did.
00:28:59
Jo
Yeah, right?
00:29:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Brighton did.
00:29:00
Jo
Come on, ask me.
00:29:01
Louie Easton
That's a good point.
00:29:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway, look, that is I can't believe we're going to get this spot on 30 minutes. I'm definitely not going to take any of the swear words out, because it'll make it too short. Look, Louis, Adarsh, I hope you enjoy the game.
00:29:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
I hope.
00:29:19
Jo
I don't.
00:29:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
I hope you enjoy the game and see what a lovely, what well i've've got to be competitive on both sides.
00:29:21
Jo
It's been nice to meet you though.
00:29:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
And and to be honest, it could go either way, couldn't it?
00:29:27
Adarsh
Hmm.
00:29:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
It could go either way. It's been nice to talk to you. Thank you very much for joining us on our podcast here. And thank you, Joe, for also joining in.
00:29:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
I am going to call time there and we will see you on Thursday where we've got a match review, which might not be sounding so buoyant during that.
00:29:49
Jo
Hm.
00:29:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
But there you go. Thank you very much guys. See you soon.
