Welcome and Introductions

00:00:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to the Daily Newcastle Podcast. It is Match Preview Thursday. So today we will be previewing our weekend fixture against Leicester at St James Park. But before we get into all that, and I am your host today. So that is me, Nicola, and I feel so alien because I've not been on all week.
00:00:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
this is my first one in a week. um um And I am joined by two incredible guests.

Fan Reactions to Last Match

00:00:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
So the first one is the Mr. Lovely Ian Mackay. Hello, how are you?
00:00:40
Iain Mackay the Noo
Hello Nicola, and don't worry, you might be feeling alien but you look human enough to me.
00:00:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't feel it. Thank you.
00:00:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
And our second guest is Michael Graham Slaw. How are you?
00:00:54
Michael
Very good, Nicola, thank you very much.
00:00:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Good. Good, good, good. Right. So um obviously I know you guys have all been into it and you've all probably spoke about it, but I have not because I've not been here. I've not been on the pod this week. So I thought we could spend the first part of this pod just talking about how genuinely we are feeling um feeling um going into our weekend fixture after last weekend's performance.
00:01:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Obviously, I know we had all had quite a lot to say in the group chat over the weekend and the course of the week about the state of the fan base, because we seem to have got some in one camp, some in other camps.

Performance Analysis Against Brentford

00:01:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I just thought we could quickly spend sort of the first 10 minutes talking about how we're feeling, what we're expecting, um and how we think we'll probably approach the game um on Saturday. So Ian, I'll come to you first. How are we feeling now we're sort of over?
00:01:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
the Brentford game and we've had time to digest that feeling. um How are we feeling?
00:01:54
Iain Mackay the Noo
Well, I, I, I'm feeling all right. I'm expecting, I'm expecting the team that played Liverpool, they're back at St James's Park. I don't think that Brentford game was, I mean, it was really disappointing, but I don't think it was on a par with how we played it. Crystal

Inconsistency Against Top Teams

00:02:15
Iain Mackay the Noo
Palace or, or the toothlessness that we showed, uh, against West Ham.
00:02:22
Iain Mackay the Noo
because Brentford are a very good home side and I know we were in it too all at half time but nobody really could have complained if we weren't two or three goals ahead after that first half because we actually played really well going forward just two stupid mistakes at the back that they're very good strikers took advantage of so I'm hoping that there have been several rockets put up several bottoms particularly in the back four maybe he's going to bring Trippier in to get a little bit more leadership at the back and drop Tino because he was absolute pants against Brentford.
00:02:59
Iain Mackay the Noo
and
00:02:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:03:00
Michael
Yep.
00:03:01
Iain Mackay the Noo
But I'm feeling quite up. I think this is where Newcastle bounced back. he They will have laid out on the line.

Optimism for Upcoming Games

00:03:06
Iain Mackay the Noo
Bruno did straight after the game and from what Kev had heard there were some harsh words said by Bruno to some of his teammates in the dressing room after the game. would hope that would mean that there's a line being drawn and they are going to put the effort in against all of the Premier League teams they face, not just the top six.
00:03:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Yeah. Lovely. Michael?
00:03:30
Michael
Yeah, I think I agree. I mean, I'm in a better place than I was after the game against Brentford. That's for sure. You know, we've we've touched on it. Newcastle's first half, quite good. Newcastle's second half, pretty much non-existent. Forest Hall Junior might as well have been on the fair pitch that day. Didn't go well. For anyone that doesn't know, that's a ah ah local kids team.
00:03:51
Michael
ah ah But yeah, it wasn't it wasn't great. But I think it's one of those, you know, every team has those kind of games. We've just had them a little bit more regularly than others at the moment.
00:04:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm hmm.
00:04:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:04:03
Michael
But going into today, not today's game, the weekend's game, I am confident that we'll put it behind us against Leicester, who obviously themselves have got something to prove under Ruud van Nistroy.

Eddie Howe's Management Under Question

00:04:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, the Lester on Oh, go on in.
00:04:18
Iain Mackay the Noo
See, I think that it the team, I was going to say the team will be just as gutted about playing as badly as they have, as unexpectedly as they have.
00:04:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:04:29
Iain Mackay the Noo
And and ah I I think they all want to achieve, they want to win every game. So, you know, with with a new focus, et cetera, they've actually will have seen, they've got a really good run of games, I think, to put right the mistakes earlier in the season.
00:04:46
Iain Mackay the Noo
to win a semi-final place in the Caravao Cup. And then to then they get to they get some fun games against the top six teams, which should you know if they've won two or three matches in a row going into them, they'd fancy themselves in all of those games against Manu and Villa and Tottenham.
00:04:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:05:04
Iain Mackay the Noo
So yeah, I'm up.
00:05:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Agreed.
00:05:06
Iain Mackay the Noo
If they're rubbish, of course, then I won't be.
00:05:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
You know, I've touched on it with a friend over, whenever it was after the weekend or over the week about the Brentford performance and how I was like, not concerned, but I was almost baffled as to how we were turning up against, you know, the top six, and I'm putting that in inverted commas. We seem to be turning up against the top six teams, but then almost like struggling against teams that we shouldn't be expected to be struggling against. And obviously then I will hold on to social media and seeing social media was an absolute uproar and you had the hashtag Eddie out circulating and then you had the other camp saying, give him time, give him, you know, and these patients and things like that, which I wholeheartedly agree with. I think he, you know, with the right sort of time and patience, think he can turn it around.

Expectations for Upcoming Matches

00:05:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
the Obviously my only concern is the next run of games that we've got are arguably probably not an easier run, but an
00:06:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
easier than normal run and I think and I'm hoping and I am confident that we can sort of turn it around and the fan base can just chill out ever so slightly. obviously we've got Leicester this weekend and then obviously next Wednesday we have Brentford at home in the Carabell Cup. We then got Ipswich, we then got Aston Villa and we've then got Man United and that's all in for the rest of December and then obviously we go into the New Year. So my question is and Kev's not going to like listening to this. I apologize to him now, but when do you guys think is an acceptable time? and and I apologize if someone's already asked you this on another pod, but when do you guys think will be an acceptable time within reason and obviously in our season to be questioning Eddie Howe and I'm not sat here questioning.

Season Challenges and Management Decisions

00:06:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm just putting the question of if we have the next say six games of a bad run, is that acceptable enough to be questioning Mr. Howe himself?
00:06:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or do we think the problem lies a little bit deeper than that? Michael, hit me.
00:07:04
Michael
I think you can question a manager at any time, even Pep Guardiola is getting questioned at the minute and he's absolutely fantastic.
00:07:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
oh True.
00:07:11
Michael
However, what you also have to take into consideration is sort of the context behind it all. You know, I mentioned on a podcast earlier in the week, we finished fifth under Pardew, we didn't build on it and we nearly got relegated.
00:07:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:07:23
Michael
And it almost feels like since we finished fourth, obviously we brought in Barnes brought in Tenali, but you know, we haven't really strengthened the squad to a point of right that's we're gonna push all the way anyhow we're gonna back you and you know we're gonna try and get the Champions League again and again and again now the reason for that is obviously PSR and you know they've got those kind of issues it does seem like we'll have to sell someone big to buy uh in the future but i think it's one of those where
00:07:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:07:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:07:54
Michael
This is the first season where we've not really had any real scrutiny of, oh, the first season, nearly getting relegated. First full season, wow, they're doing so much better than anyone would expect.
00:08:06
Michael
They're gonna drop off at some point. Second full season, should I say, injuries galore.
00:08:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:08:13
Michael
This season, there hasn't really been anything, and we are struggling a little bit. It's almost as if now the world's not against Newcastle, or it doesn't feel that way as much.
00:08:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:08:22
Michael
we're not doing as well which is weird because that's how the farm farm business always sort of felt there's something against us but I think we can look at it and go Leicester, Brentford, Ipswich
00:08:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:08:35
Michael
If you don't win two of those, I think you're in a pot position now where you go, people are going to really start turning on Eddie Howe. And the big one there is the Brentford at home. Brentford haven't beaten anyone away from home this season. and it's, it comes the case of if the first time that they do is to knock us out of the, uh, the league cup when we're this close to a semi-final.
00:08:58
Michael
are you potentially a final again?
00:08:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:09:00
Michael
I think people will start questioning them then probably and i've I mean i've said so I've said for about a month now questions will be asked but the conversation's there to be had.
00:09:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.

Strategies and Transfers for Team Improvement

00:09:11
Michael
We're not saying sack him right now it's just what's the best way to move forward.
00:09:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, of course not.
00:09:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I agree. And I also will just before anyone comes in, comes to me, I do wholeheartedly agree that Eddie was not backed properly within the summer transfer window. So this isn't me sitting here saying, you know, I think he should go because I don't, I don't think he should go. My question was, when is the most acceptable time to maybe start raising questions about the manager? I'm certainly not right now. And I will always stand with him and obviously, you know,
00:09:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
as we all say, like the memories he's given us, et cetera. He's unbelievable. He's 10 players round. And, you know, he's been fantastic for us. But, you know, that was my question. Ian, anything to add? I feel like I'm going to get loads of fans coming for me this week.
00:10:01
Iain Mackay the Noo
i I agree with Michael. You can question, and we have questioned at all times, different things that the manager has done, whether he's the right man to lead us forward.
00:10:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:10:12
Iain Mackay the Noo
I mean, forget Brentford. The game before that was an absolutely wonderful performance against Liverpool.
00:10:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah yeah.
00:10:19
Iain Mackay the Noo
So his tactics were great then.
00:10:19
Michael
Yes.
00:10:21
Iain Mackay the Noo
And and honestly, don't think you can blame Edith Howe for the ineptitude shown by our defenders.
00:10:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, of course not.
00:10:29
Iain Mackay the Noo
fantastic through ball played by Harvey Barnes straight onto Whistler's foot.
00:10:34
Iain Mackay the Noo
Fabian Schauer looking at the ball coming into the box from the goalkeeper's punt up from a halfway line like it's some sort of helium balloon and never going to come down and then suddenly it does and he's still watching it.
00:10:45
Iain Mackay the Noo
I mean that's not Eddie's Eddie House fault. I think he has earned ah ah earned the right because I do think that he's been let down by not being able to refresh the side in the last two transfer windows.
00:10:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, of course not.
00:10:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:10:58
Iain Mackay the Noo
I think he's earned the right to get backed, however they do it in this January. Let him sell two or three players, bring two or three players in. We're still close enough if we can pick up a win in a draw against Leicester and Ipswich to go on a run and get up to be challenging into those European places in the second half of the season.
00:11:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
ye
00:11:17
Iain Mackay the Noo
I think, I think give him some back and set him a target. Tell him you've got 150 million quid that you're going to spend.
00:11:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I agree.
00:11:27
Iain Mackay the Noo
you've got to finish sixth or above or fourth or above whatever that target is and then then everybody knows where they stand there's a good run for him to be able to fix things and maybe him and Tyndall will get a little bit more direct in encouraging some of our in and out players Anthony Gordon, Fabian Schauer and the rest of you you know who you are
00:11:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:11:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:11:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
100%. Yeah.
00:11:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
I agree. you know, I would quite like to see him back in, upcoming transfer window. almost don't like, and this is just my personal opinion. I almost don't like the feeling that he's sort of been set up to fail a little bit with not the right backing, but I know obviously PSR and all that comes into it. So I'm not even going to get into that. cause this leads nicely into part two, but first we will, take a quick break for one of our sponsors. And

Callum Wilson's Future

00:12:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think the first one's being read out by Michael.
00:12:19
Michael

00:12:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Lovely, Michael. That was very professionally read.
00:12:52
Michael
as so
00:12:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Very passionate read. Thank you. right. I know I said we're viewing the Leicester game, but I think it's only right that we spend part two covering off a little bit of news that came
00:13:02
Global Sports Podcast Network
was it today or yesterday? I can't remember. about none other than Mr. Callum Wilson. Come on. He has played half an hour and he is now out with a hamstring injury.
00:13:13
Michael
As always.
00:13:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it is. You just can't write it for him, can you? and First of all, I just want to say I know no one is going to be more frustrated than Callum. And he's obviously come out and said he's frustrated. And obviously, I totally 100 percent understand that mentally he is going to be feeling a certain type of way about it. However, for us Newcastle fans and obviously the Newcastle squad isn't the best of news and this constant rotation of he's fit, he's not fit, he's fit, he's not fit.
00:13:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
seems to be never ending and it's every season at the minute. Obviously it's every season and he misses majority of the season all the time. My question to you both is, obviously his contract's up in the summer. My other opinion is it's probably not going to be renewed, but God be my judge, it potentially may be, but I don't think it will. And obviously we have ESAC, who again, and obviously we love. also doesn't have the best track sort of injury record. He's sort of up and down with injury every so often. And then obviously we have Mr. Osular, who's obviously been struggling for minutes. Will it be January or the summer? Let me know. Where we think we will potentially look for a new striker. What is your guide's view on that? Ian, I will come to you. I feel really sad that I'm talking about Mr. Wilson leaving in Newcastle.
00:14:35
Iain Mackay the Noo
Yeah, poor Callum. But I mean, when does Callum Wilson give up and say I'm retiring? Because, you know, if we're honest, we've seen him come back and we've said it's too early and he's tweaked it and gone back out again for different times of the last couple of years.
00:14:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
I know.
00:14:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Yep.
00:14:52
Iain Mackay the Noo
This time, this time he was he wasn't even injured for a little while, was he? He just wasn't quite ready to play a match.
00:14:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:14:58
Iain Mackay the Noo
I think he had an extra two two months. And I thought, well, if that means he's properly over it,
00:15:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm hmm.
00:15:04
Iain Mackay the Noo
Good. We get the whole of the second half of the season out of him.
00:15:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:15:07
Iain Mackay the Noo
But you're absolutely right. and What is it? Two 15-minute cameos he's played and crocked for another two months, by the way, which means he's still going to be injured at the end of the January transfer window.
00:15:20
Iain Mackay the Noo
So we ain't going to sell him.
00:15:23
Iain Mackay the Noo
I don't know. I don't know what you do with him. We obviously just have to put him to one side. I don't know if he comes back and plays in the new year. app can't see how they would ever want to renew a contract because he's on a lot of money.
00:15:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:15:36
Iain Mackay the Noo
When do we replace him?
00:15:37
Iain Mackay the Noo
That depends on how good we are at trading.
00:15:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:15:42
Iain Mackay the Noo
I suspect Eddie's not completely innocent in not being able to cope with PSR because I think this time last year he had it had it offers on the table for Miguel Moron, Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson, but he wouldn't let any of them go.
00:16:01
Iain Mackay the Noo
So he sort of hoist buying his own petard there, really.
00:16:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Handed off
00:16:07
Iain Mackay the Noo
He knows he can't do that now.
00:16:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:16:08
Iain Mackay the Noo
It depends how they trade. I think if they can get rid of, uh, if they can get rid of Harvey Barnes, for example, and afford to spend a decent money, that should be on a right winger.
00:16:19
Iain Mackay the Noo
Because I hear what you're saying about Ezak. I think Ezak's, it's harsh to go after his injury record this season because he broke his toe, which but anyone can do.
00:16:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Oh yeah, I get that.
00:16:31
Iain Mackay the Noo
it's, it's not a muscular thing or a recurring thing.
00:16:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:16:35
Iain Mackay the Noo
Uh,

Transfer Moves and Squad Balance

00:16:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:16:35
Iain Mackay the Noo
so yeah, I'd go right-winger for sure.
00:16:38
Iain Mackay the Noo
If we can trade some more out, then probably set a half even. Cause I think the Fabian Shah is about to fail his MLT and ended up getting scrapped.
00:16:49
Iain Mackay the Noo
Sorry, Kev.
00:16:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Don't talk about my Fabian shell like that.
00:16:52
Iain Mackay the Noo
and then, and then. Yeah, we then we need a backup striker. but But I do think that he will rely on actually Gordon down the middle because he's sure that that that that's a good position for him.
00:16:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:17:04
Iain Mackay the Noo
I want to see Osseola get more minutes. I want him to trust Osseola. He looks good.
00:17:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it does.
00:17:08
Iain Mackay the Noo
The bits we've seen and he won't let him come on. And and then who else is in those under 23s? Ben Parkinson I mentioned is in great form for the under 23s at the moment.
00:17:20
Iain Mackay the Noo
And he was used last year during the injury crisis. So he's got some experience and he was trusted enough. Then, you know, I think if you need to protect EZAC, then protect him by using the young lads.
00:17:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, of course.
00:17:37
Iain Mackay the Noo
Some of them might just just surprise you, you never know.
00:17:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
what we've got. and Yeah, I completely agree. Michael, anything to add?
00:17:44
Michael
Yeah, I mean, I think Wilson, unfortunately, his time with Newcastle is up. But I don't think we'll replace him with anyone in January, purely because as Ian said, he's out for two months.
00:17:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:17:58
Michael
So he's back in that awkward period where if you replace him, he's just sitting there on 100 grand or something a week. I think it's 90 actually.
00:18:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
has it Has it been said it's two months? I've just thought but it's a little, so I've not seen how many months he's out for. Just had a little setback.
00:18:15
Michael
I hadn't seen the official timeframe, but just taking money inside there.
00:18:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:18:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:18:19
Michael
But yeah, again, it's one of those where, if that is how long he's out for, then unfortunately, we're gonna be in a situation where we're probably not gonna be able to replace him.
00:18:30
Michael
And, you know, there was talks of Evan Ferguson on loan from Brent, if not from Brentford, got them on the brain on from Brighton. And then there was always sort of talks of Kula Mayani from PSG, who I can't see wanting to let go on loan.
00:18:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:18:45
Michael
unless it had a permanent and that permanent would very likely probably involve alexanderies that go in the other way so not a fan of that one either but yeah i think
00:18:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nope.
00:18:56
Michael
You know, we talk, we talk a little bit as well about Eddie Howe and we're trading and stuff like that, but it's worth noting with Alma on the 20 million bid we had was from Saudi. Didn't want to go there. He wants to either go to South America again or, you know, back to the MLS. It seems like river plate is the most likely, destination in Argentina. So we should get a little bit off from there, but trivia, I think is the one where realistically we should have sold. Now we don't, but now we're looking ahead at the Leicester game and we're going.
00:19:24
Michael
Well, Tino was absolutely dreadful, so let's trip you back in. So it's it's a hard one because any player that we get rid of in January, there's going to be people in February saying, oh, well, we could have used them here.
00:19:37
Michael
We needed them against, we needed them in this game against, trying to think off the top man, Everton away.
00:19:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:19:43
Michael
We needed Harvey, no, we've played Everton away. Southampton away. We needed Harvey Barnes to break them down. It's like, well, actually we've we've sold them, got some money in now. so Whatever he does, he's he's not going to get any praise or plaudits whatsoever, anyhow.
00:19:59
Michael
So it's going to be a difficult one for him, but what can you do?
00:19:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:20:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, no matter what he does, I'm afraid, I think he's going to be up against a little bit of, he'll always have them fans that are, well, if we had this person, it would be fine. But I've got no, you know, I've got trust in the club that if we obviously sell the right players, obviously there's no right player to sell. What I'm trying to say is if we sell players and offload, I'll come across really bad there. If we offload players, I just want that money to be invested and spent wisely.
00:20:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
if you know what I mean. So like you know look at Villa obviously they offloaded Grealish and he's obviously ruined his career by going to Man City but you know they've invested that money and now look at them they're obviously I mean obviously their Premier League campaigns a little bit up and down but they're flying a little bit aren't they.
00:20:32
Michael
yeah.
00:20:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I just want that money to be invested wisely. That's my problem. Ian I'm sure that's the same for everyone but.
00:20:53
Iain Mackay the Noo
Yeah, I was going to say it might be for a different podcast to discuss, but is is it time to just bite the bullet, let Arsenal have Isaac on the 1st of January and collect 110 million off them and then spend all month bringing three new first teamers in.
00:21:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:21:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah
00:21:06
Michael
Could well be.
00:21:11
Iain Mackay the Noo
You know, I would, I'd hate to see Alexander Isaac go, but then, you know, I hated watching Beardsley leave, Gascoigne leave, Waddle leave, Malcolm McDonald leave.
00:21:12
Michael
Yeah.
00:21:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:21:18
Michael
Call. Yeah.
00:21:23
Iain Mackay the Noo
Oh God, as an eight-year-old, I cried buckets when my family left and then kept coming back with Arsenal and scoring against us. but

Opportunities for Young Players

00:21:32
Iain Mackay the Noo
it But it's football, isn't it? It's football.
00:21:34
Michael
Yeah.
00:21:34
Iain Mackay the Noo
and you know I i think um whoever you get rid of first for 100 million, I'd say do it and invest the cash. And if two of them go, brilliant.
00:21:43
Michael
100%.
00:21:45
Iain Mackay the Noo
That's six new first team, as we go. That'll shake up the rest of the squad.
00:21:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:21:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yep.
00:21:50
Michael
Yeah.
00:21:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
I agree. I agree.
00:21:52
Michael
the Just to add something on William Missoula as well, I think Eddie Howe was starting to trust him and then that game against AFC Wimbledon happened where all of us were there and to a man the team were dreadful but you look at that as William Missoula, that's your chance to make an impact and to be honest he wasn't good at all so I imagine he'll get the same treatment against Bromley but
00:22:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm hmm.
00:22:20
Iain Mackay the Noo
that's so harsh that might be so harsh because Asula was running all of the time he was so close to actually scoring as well but it was the rest of the team couldn't put the two passes together to open up he's a big center forward he's reliant on the service that he gets and that was what was crap it wasn't his willingness or his effort I think you were being really harsh then do you remember when Krattu went on the run against was it against Arsenal and and knocked the ball for him to
00:22:49
Michael
Chelsea.
00:22:50
Iain Mackay the Noo
against Chelsea and he he came back inside and just hit the base of the post. That's that's what he can do if you give him a chance. Think faster than the centre forward, centre half and be past him and shot.
00:22:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:23:03
Michael
Oh yeah, he see he seems to do well he see he did okay in Cup Games for Sheffield United.
00:23:03
Iain Mackay the Noo
Give him a chance.
00:23:08
Michael
He looked good against Chelsea when he came on. But I i think when you look at his minutes, that seems to have been the moment where his minutes went from growing to starting to dwindle a little bit more.
00:23:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:23:20
Michael
And it it's ah ah it is a shame because I think with potential you know with a lot of time invested in him, he could be a a solid Premier League player. I'm not saying he'll be Alexander Ryzak or Colin Wilson, but he could be solid.
00:23:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:23:32
Michael
And let's be honest, I mentioned before the podcast, Mati Longstaff was putting in against Man United. Look at Mati Longstaff now, he he wasn't good enough for the Premier League, but he put in man of the match performances in like three times in six games.
00:23:47
Michael
So as Ian said earlier, just give the youngins a chance.
00:23:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:23:50
Michael
That might surprise you. know
00:23:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, that was a good little debate. I enjoyed that. I think we'll end part two there because I could talk about this subject for about an hour. We will go to our second and final sponsor, which will be read out by Ian, please.
00:24:05
Iain Mackay the Noo

Lovely. Lovely and professional, as always. Right,

Match Preview: Leicester City

00:24:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
guys, and we've slightly run over. We've probably got about five, six minutes to cram in a quick preview of Leicester. Sort of what we're expecting, um how as i by that, I mean, what challenges do we think we will face against Leicester? What do we think they're going to bring? And and we'll put in our score predictions. So, I will start with yourself.
00:24:57
Michael
half an hour
00:25:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
players to watch out for from Leicester um um and sort of how we're feeling genuinely going into it and then um your score prediction.
00:25:22
Michael
Yeah, I think last time the root van destroy it's going to be a different proposition than what we are maybe expecting. It'll be a harder game than many are expecting.
00:25:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:25:30
Michael
But what I will say is they've played three games under root so far. Two at home, one both of those. The away game they got absolutely demolished off Brentford and you thought the second half for Newcastle was bad against Brentford, that was the whole game for Leicester.
00:25:45
Michael
So their away form hasn't looked like improving at all, it's just been one game.
00:25:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
ye
00:25:51
Michael
But one player that I do know we'll have to look out for is for Kondo Buonanote, on loan from Brighton. He looked absolutely fantastic under Steve Koopa and I can just imagine under and a more attacking coach such as Rude Van Nistreoy.
00:26:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:26:05
Michael
There's things Rude Van Nistreoy knows about football that he'll forgotten more than I'll ever know.
00:26:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
yep
00:26:11
Michael
So what he'll be able to teach that young lad will be fantastic. But they're attacking three overall.
00:26:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:26:17
Michael
al kounis uh james makateer and whether or not they'll all be very dangerous will need armid field on top form to do anything but i think realistically saint james's park under the lights got something to prove we should be looking for a i'm gonna say a 3-1 win eat that
00:26:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, done an Ian.
00:26:42
Iain Mackay the Noo
I can agree. I can agree. Yes.
00:26:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ian, not sure.
00:26:49
Iain Mackay the Noo
Can you say the Moroccan guy?
00:26:53
Michael
I'm not sure on the nationality, but...
00:26:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sounds about right.
00:26:56
Iain Mackay the Noo
Anyway.
00:26:58
Michael
Belgium.
00:26:59
Iain Mackay the Noo
There's a, there's a, right.
00:27:00
Michael
Oh no, he is Morocco.
00:27:01
Iain Mackay the Noo
There's a Moroccan.
00:27:02
Michael
He was born in he was born in belgium Belgium, but he does play for Morocco, yes.
00:27:02
Iain Mackay the Noo
There's a Moroccan.
00:27:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, okay.
00:27:08
Iain Mackay the Noo
Right. Yeah.
00:27:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't know that.
00:27:10
Iain Mackay the Noo
Kev. Kevin spotted him and thought that he looked really good.
00:27:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm. Yeah.
00:27:15
Iain Mackay the Noo
yeah, the rude van Nistleroy new manager bounce. They made that continue. Jamie Vardy, evergreen Jamie Vardy.
00:27:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hmm.
00:27:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Likes a party.
00:27:26
Iain Mackay the Noo
He's nearly 38. I think it's 38 in a month, but, uh, he's still really, really quick and Dan Berlin Fabian Schar aren't. So we certainly have to look for him. but on the plus side.
00:27:40
Iain Mackay the Noo
Connor Cody and God, what's your the other guy called? Fester guard.
00:27:44
Michael
Vestigar.
00:27:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:27:48
Michael
No.
00:27:48
Iain Mackay the Noo
Yeah. I mean, they're not quick either.
00:27:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nope.
00:27:49
Iain Mackay the Noo
Other let's be fair. And Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isaac are. So, uh, I think there'll be very, a lot of goals. I learned last night that Lester have only ever kept one clean sheet all season, but then there's also only one game that they failed to score in.
00:27:57
Michael
That.
00:28:04
Iain Mackay the Noo
So I think goals will be there. I'm sure the Rockets have been at those boys bottoms so that we will be on it.
00:28:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah.
00:28:14
Iain Mackay the Noo
I'm going to go right out on a limb and say Newcastle will win.
00:28:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh.
00:28:20
Iain Mackay the Noo
5-2 and Alexander Isaac will be the first Newcastle centre forward to score a hat-trick since Michael Owen.
00:28:22
Michael
Oh.
00:28:27
Iain Mackay the Noo
Or is it Iozi Perez?
00:28:27
Michael
Oh.
00:28:28
Iain Mackay the Noo
Anyway, for a long time an Isaac hat-trick.
00:28:29
Michael
You can count Iosa.
00:28:31
Iain Mackay the Noo
5-2. There we go.
00:28:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, we're going bold. Yeah, I agree. I think it's going to be, I think it will start out a tough game and I think it will be a bit of a tougher game than what are expecting. I never like to sort of underestimate Leicester. And obviously, as we've already discussed, new manager bounce is a real thing. But I honestly think, and I agree with Ian and obviously you, Michael, but I honestly think them lads have had it given to them.
00:28:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
after the Brentford game from Mr Eddie Howe. And I think they will be sort of coming out with a bit of a point to prove. And like we say, St. James Park under the lights, it's going to be bouncing.
00:29:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I am also going for, well not also, because no one's guessed it, but I'm actually going for a 4-1 Newcastle. I think we're going to, lots of goals. I think it's going to be lots of goals.
00:29:21
Iain Mackay the Noo
We're expecting some goals, aren't we?
00:29:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. And every time I say this, we play wonderful.
00:29:23
Michael
Yeah, nil nil or one nil Leicester now.
00:29:24
Iain Mackay the Noo
Yes.
00:29:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. In the 90th minute.
00:29:28
Iain Mackay the Noo
Now, Nicola, you don't get overexcited when you're watching Newcastle and they score, do they? Because I'm sitting next to you in this game, I think.
00:29:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
you We are, yeah, we're sitting together. Yeah, I do get overexcited, yeah, so.
00:29:40
Iain Mackay the Noo
Yes. So if we school if if score five times, I'm going to have to bring a crash element.
00:29:46
Michael
What if Leicester score five times?
00:29:49
Iain Mackay the Noo
I will over.
00:29:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm getting out of there. Yeah.
00:29:49
Michael
Don't put the cameras on, yes?
00:29:51
Iain Mackay the Noo
No, see you the see at the strawberry at four o'clock.
00:29:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Absolutely.
00:29:57
Iain Mackay the Noo
Yes, so yeah.
00:29:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, lovely. Okay, I think we'll leave that there then. So um obviously, thank you both for joining and thank you everyone for listening. And we will be back on Monday with a brand new episode and hopefully reviewing our 5-2 or 4-2 or 3-1 win against Leicester.
