Introduction & Historical Inaccuracies
00:00:10
Chris
Welcome back to another Mythotraft podcast. I'm Chris.
00:00:14
the4thisthewrongday
And the music stopped and I'm on.
00:00:16
Chris
he um It's sneaky sometimes.
00:00:19
the4thisthewrongday
last time Technology.
00:00:19
Chris
It doesn't want to start. don't know.
00:00:24
Chris
Yeah. We're coming to you on the 4th of July.
00:00:28
the4thisthewrongday
The fake holiday that is the 4th of July. That's correct.
00:00:31
Chris
Yep. I read that it's because 4th is when it was actually signed, the wording was signed or something. I don't know.
00:00:42
Chris
But so the second is when it was declared.
00:00:42
the4thisthewrongday
The excuse is the... The excuse is the 4th was the day they read it out in public.
00:00:49
the4thisthewrongday
But the signing actually wasn't done until like October.
00:00:55
the4thisthewrongday
You know.
00:00:55
Chris
Cause I mean, even didn't, um, Adams won it on the second or something.
00:01:01
the4thisthewrongday
Mm-hmm. But yeah.
00:01:03
the4thisthewrongday
And like people, some delegates weren't there to sign it on the 4th. You know, and you've to think about how long it takes to write it out by hand, that kind of stuff.
00:01:11
the4thisthewrongday
And they had to make multiple copies.
00:01:14
the4thisthewrongday
You know.
00:01:15
Chris
Oh, and that's a thing. If you're coming down from Maine, yeah that's that's a hike.
00:01:20
the4thisthewrongday
Well, Maine wasn't a state. It was part of Massachusetts then. It's okay. Okay.
00:01:29
the4thisthewrongday
New Hampshire was a state, but yes, it was a hike.
Philadelphia Adventures
00:01:33
Chris
Because the original signing was in Philly.
00:01:36
the4thisthewrongday
Mm-hmm.
00:01:37
Chris
Yeah. Which I went to last weekend.
00:01:40
Chris
It's a delightful town.
00:01:42
the4thisthewrongday
You could have gone to Congressional Hall. It's right there.
00:01:45
Chris
I think we went past it.
00:01:47
the4thisthewrongday
You probably did if you were anywhere near Old Town.
00:01:50
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah.
00:01:50
Chris
We walked all around down that side and yeah, we saw the fake Libertyville.
00:01:57
the4thisthewrongday
I was at the fake Liberty Bell.
00:01:58
Chris
I heard it's fake. I heard it's not the real one.
00:02:01
the4thisthewrongday
I've never heard that before.
00:02:03
Chris
Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, so yeah, all kinds of delightful things. The museum was nice. Yeah.
00:02:10
the4thisthewrongday
Fill your resume is huge. You don't realize how big it is until you get in there and you're like, oh my God, I've been in here three hours.
00:02:17
Chris
And it's like a maze.
00:02:18
the4thisthewrongday
It is like a maze. Yeah.
00:02:19
Chris
There were like my wife and I discussed later, like we were like, we should have like put X's through, yeah know, rooms we had seen. so we had known.
00:02:27
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, it's, and the last time I went there, I went with my cousin and was like, we've only got like three hours. Let's go to the art museum. And we did not finish. were like, we got to go.
00:02:41
the4thisthewrongday
And we got to like,
00:02:41
Chris
Yeah. My, ah we agreed that we had like a, was it was called like, boom or pop or something. It was, you know art of the forties.
00:02:51
the4thisthewrongday
yeah, that's weird.
00:02:51
Chris
And then, and then they, well, they also had, you know, like the whole floor that's like American art or whatever.
00:02:59
the4thisthewrongday
Mm-hmm.
00:02:59
Chris
and we're like, yeah, Americans aren't good. We did not, that was like our least favorite part of the museum. We enjoyed like the European art and then they had like, you know, the Asian and Eurasian part and, you know, like I prefer sculptures and things. So I like that.
00:03:15
the4thisthewrongday
think the problem with American art is there's two very big different schools. Like all those like 1800s classics, like with the landscapes and all the stuff that you think, actually you think is European is actually American.
00:03:33
the4thisthewrongday
And then there's all the Warhol bullshit that happened in the like 1950s on it.
00:03:38
the4thisthewrongday
It's just like, this is piss in a jar.
00:03:39
the4thisthewrongday
This is American art. It's like, no, let's get back to real art.
00:03:42
Chris
Yeah. And then there's like, I don't, I'm abstract and all that kind of stuff.
00:03:48
the4thisthewrongday
I'm not into it. Even Picasso, I'm like, this is this is the maniac who's got schizophrenia or something, and you guys are like, this look at this art.
00:03:57
the4thisthewrongday
Have you like seen some of his sculptures?
00:04:00
the4thisthewrongday
They look like I did them.
Art & Cultural Preferences
00:04:03
the4thisthewrongday
This is terrible.
00:04:03
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. was going to say sculptures, you have a painting you do very well.
00:04:05
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah.
00:04:08
the4thisthewrongday
Sure. Yeah, we we were we were Alaska on the cruise, there was like a, you know, on the channels, there was like, going through all our local you know artists that they show off in their little gallery that they're trying to sell you on art.
00:04:21
the4thisthewrongday
Because, of course, when I'm on a cruise, I want to buy art.
00:04:26
the4thisthewrongday
And one of them was about to cost one. I'm like, and he got into this period where he made plates. And I'm like, those are awful.
00:04:34
the4thisthewrongday
They look like fifth graders took them from but yeah art class.
00:04:36
Chris
Yeah. Well, that was like there was a whole display and the museum.
00:04:38
the4thisthewrongday
They were
00:04:40
Chris
It it was yeah like the fancy plates like China ceramics. And I was like, I don't want to see my grandmother's plates when I go to a museum.
00:04:49
Chris
I don't I don't care.
00:04:49
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah. Yeah. It's a pretty cool museum, though. That, um where they recreated, like, the Asian, don't know if it's still there.
00:05:01
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, where it's inside.
00:05:01
the4thisthewrongday
it was That's really cool.
00:05:03
Chris
Yeah, yeah, it was definitely like stepping in or there there was the they brought in like the entire ceiling from this mosque. And yeah, like, yeah, they had the Koran and it was like being like read as you went through it or whatever.
00:05:20
the4thisthewrongday
yeah I really appreciate the effort they put in that museum. I really like it.
00:05:25
the4thisthewrongday
It's probably the best museum in Philly.
00:05:29
the4thisthewrongday
The Mona Museum is like famous. like Everybody goes there, but Philly Art Museum.
00:05:34
Chris
Yeah, we did not go there.
00:05:35
the4thisthewrongday
and It's where medical oddities.
00:05:38
the4thisthewrongday
You really want to see those. so
00:05:40
Chris
ah Sometimes, yeah, but no.
00:05:42
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah. Yeah.
00:05:43
Chris
I see enough of those at work.
00:05:45
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah. yeah We... and you know I'm a bad person because it's 30 minutes away. I go like once every five years.
00:05:55
Chris
Yeah, but it's one of those, it's like so many things, though. When it's close like that, you're like, ah, it's right there. i'll get to it.
00:06:01
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah. and That's a problem though. My wife and i talk about all the time.
00:06:04
the4thisthewrongday
We're like, we don't do enough stuff in our own local community.
00:06:08
the4thisthewrongday
We need to be better about going to events that are around. Yeah.
00:06:11
Chris
Well, I mean, the nice thing when we were in Philly, we could walk places and then, you know, take part things.
00:06:11
the4thisthewrongday
they're Cause they're doing,
00:06:17
the4thisthewrongday
It was just rated, it is rated the most pedestrian friendly city in the country.
00:06:17
Chris
i Very pedestrian friendly.
00:06:24
Chris
Yeah. I mean, the the crosswalks, you barely have to wait. They they're automated.
00:06:29
the4thisthewrongday
And there's a there's a huge walking path that goes, well, actually, where are you were at the art museum, and you see those steps when you come to the famous Rocky Steps.
00:06:40
the4thisthewrongday
which is like an abomination that they have a statue of Rocky there. But if you look to your left, there's a, there's a walking path that goes up the river and it's huge. It goes all the way up to like Wissahawken.
00:06:51
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah. So it's miles of walking path. So can just take it under the center city and it's pretty cool.
00:06:58
Chris
Yeah, we started the day we, you know, walked around and we went to the steps in the morning, you know, there's nobody there. When we went back in the afternoon to go to the museum, there was a line all the way down the steps for people waiting to take pictures with the statue.
00:07:13
Chris
And then downstairs you know, on the ground level where there's that other statue, people wrapped around that.
00:07:17
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah.
00:07:18
Chris
There was this guy, look, I give him credit, you know, he's taking advantage of the situation. he had a cooler full of Gatorade water stuff. He's like, yeah, you five bucks a bottle. So
00:07:30
the4thisthewrongday
Hey, that's the capitalism at work, right?
00:07:34
the4thisthewrongday
He's like, these suckers are going to be saying here in the heat, I'll sell Gatorade.
00:07:37
Chris
Yep. We were surprised at the amount of places that were closed on the weekend though.
00:07:45
the4thisthewrongday
Really?
00:07:45
Chris
Yeah. We walked by like three or four like cafes and places that like, yeah, open Monday through Thursday.
00:07:49
the4thisthewrongday
Oh, yeah. It depends where you're at. Like, if you're a really Center City, Wilmington's like that, too. If you're in, like, downtown Center City, a lot of places close because it's they're really only open there for the business days.
00:08:02
Chris
Yeah, it makes sense.
00:08:03
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah.
00:08:04
Chris
And refreshingly, didn't see. Well, I mean, we saw Dunkin, Starbucks and Wawa, you know, but without gas station.
00:08:11
the4thisthewrongday
Oh, dude.
00:08:13
Chris
But other than that, no fast food.
00:08:16
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, no, yeah.
00:08:17
the4thisthewrongday
and ill like Not a lot of fast food. There's like very few gas stations. Yeah, there's wawa's everywhere though.
00:08:26
the4thisthewrongday
It's a thing. Yeah, I really like Philly and compared to like New York and Baltimore, I never feel like skeeved out by it.
00:08:35
Chris
Yeah, i mean, we only got cussed by one homeless guy.
00:08:38
the4thisthewrongday
Oh, but that seems like a break.
00:08:40
the4thisthewrongday
We can get cussed by more than that in Salisbury. Yeah.
00:08:43
Chris
Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Yeah, I asked him, I was like, do you know Donald West? And he didn't. I'm afraid they're on like a group mailing or something. I don't know.
00:08:52
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah. we were just talking about him the other day.
00:08:57
the4thisthewrongday
Don't know where he's living. Or unhoused living.
00:09:04
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, Philly's a nice town.
00:09:06
the4thisthewrongday
And you sent me a picture of Philly sportsman everybody and said, why? and my only answer was, it's the fight in Philly's.
00:09:14
Chris
Yeah, yeah, we we were in Reading Market when I sent you that.
00:09:17
the4thisthewrongday
Oh, Riding Market's really...
00:09:18
Chris
Is it reading or reading? Yeah.
00:09:20
the4thisthewrongday
I think it's Riding Terminal, Riding Market.
00:09:21
Chris
Okay. Or whatever it is. Yeah. God, that place was overwhelming.
00:09:25
the4thisthewrongday
It is cool though.
00:09:27
Chris
Oh, yeah, I wish i was talking to one the nurse practitioners at work and you know were like, if they had like a you could buy a punch card And say, hey, you know, for whatever it is, you know, 30 bucks, here's your 10 slot
Culinary Experiences in Philadelphia
00:09:40
Chris
punch card. And you could go and like the vendor will punch it and then they'll give you a sample or, you know, like whatever their little specialty is.
00:09:48
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah. Did you get the hot Italian?
00:09:51
the4thisthewrongday
Roast beef?
00:09:52
Chris
We went there. we were there at like 10 o'clock. So we were there a little bit early. We and we ended up going to Tir Nanag for lunch.
00:10:03
Chris
So got your short as you know It was like a little hole in the wall, Irish pub. It was delightful.
00:10:09
the4thisthewrongday
i wish you would ask me because there's a belgian place in center in old town philly that's near the liberty belt it is i'm telling you some of the best french fries i've ever had my life
00:10:23
the4thisthewrongday
amazing food there. And things that you're like, I've never had any of this stuff.
00:10:27
the4thisthewrongday
It's pretty good.
00:10:27
Chris
Yeah. Yeah, we went to Sabrina's for breakfast.
00:10:32
the4thisthewrongday
Did you get a Philly pretzel from a pretzel truck?
00:10:37
the4thisthewrongday
You know, just wandering around.
00:10:37
Chris
Did he plant her chicks?
00:10:39
the4thisthewrongday
Oh, that's the best part.
00:10:40
Chris
she no all the all the little carts we saw were falafel.
00:10:41
the4thisthewrongday
New York has stupid hot dogs. Philly has pretzels. And fish.
00:10:49
the4thisthewrongday
Crab juice. No, the The Philly soft pretzel, it's worth it.
00:10:56
Chris
yeah Yeah, I saw quite a few of them.
00:10:56
the4thisthewrongday
It's better than the hot dog cart.
00:10:59
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, hot dog carts are gross.
00:11:00
Chris
Yeah, never knew that Philly was famous for pretzels.
00:11:03
the4thisthewrongday
Oh yeah, yeah, that's a thing.
00:11:05
the4thisthewrongday
That's the thing.
00:11:08
the4thisthewrongday
The Philly pretzel.
00:11:13
the4thisthewrongday
Cheesesteaks, which are like the tourist food.
00:11:13
Chris
Yeah. Probably need this somewhere else, huh?
00:11:16
the4thisthewrongday
Pretzels, which are like the local food.
00:11:16
Chris
It didn't. Yeah. Yeah, we did not get cheesesteaks.
00:11:22
the4thisthewrongday
You know, here's what I'm to tell you.
00:11:27
the4thisthewrongday
I'm glad you didn't. Because i have a rant about Philly Cheat Steaks now.
00:11:33
the4thisthewrongday
Everybody has, because it's now become a thing. And everywhere you go, oh, where we've got our new take on the Philly Cheat Steaks.
00:11:40
Chris
pat Was it Pats or Genos?
00:11:42
the4thisthewrongday
Pat's or Gino's, Joe's, how Philly, those are acceptable places.
00:11:46
the4thisthewrongday
Chickie Pete's is terrible. what's that other place Tony Luke's sorry Tony you're out
00:11:53
Chris
do you Do you have to have two names for some of these?
00:11:57
the4thisthewrongday
yes maybe I don't know but I just I everybody has made it into this thing and it's it doesn't need to be a thing it's just a cheesesteak sub that's it yeah not a sandwich it's one piece of bread
00:11:57
Chris
Chickie Pete, Tony Lou.
00:12:01
Chris
Bobbitt, Bobbitt Joe.
00:12:19
the4thisthewrongday
It's the same.
00:12:19
Chris
yeah I mean, it's 4th of July. I'm going to have a nice hot dog sandwich this afternoon.
00:12:23
the4thisthewrongday
ah so you're gonna have two slices of bread with a hot dog in the middle? Seems like a lot of carbs when you could just have a hot dog. Just one piece of bread.
00:12:35
the4thisthewrongday
It's not, it's not. Anything you say is a bun. it's like It's like the British thing.
00:12:40
the4thisthewrongday
don't know if I ran it about this. A burger is only really beef. Right? Because you don't say... You say veggie burger because you're pretending like a beef burger.
00:12:51
Chris
Oh, these animals that are like, oh, yeah, I got a chicken burger. No, you didn't.
00:12:56
the4thisthewrongday
No, you didn't.
00:12:56
Chris
seat You got a chicken sand sandwich.
00:12:58
the4thisthewrongday
You gotta take a sandwich. Yeah, exactly. Because you don't eat minced chicken. That sounds disgusting.
00:13:05
Chris
And if you do, you're an animal.
00:13:07
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, that sounds disgusting. Chicken sandwich, a burger. And they have... I've watched a lot of British videos. and They like to take digs at America...
00:13:18
the4thisthewrongday
Because they're like, oh, it's a Hamburg sandwich. It's named after Hamburg. It doesn't come from Hamburg, you animals. We invented it. Get off our bone. This is why we had to fight a war against you.
00:13:31
the4thisthewrongday
Two of them, in fact.
00:13:35
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah.
00:13:35
Chris
yeah but Speaking of burgers, I had a interesting burger yesterday. went out for admin lunch. I was like, yeah, it's on the special. I'll try It was their patties were 50-50 ground beef and chorizo.
00:13:50
the4thisthewrongday
That sounds fatty and delicious.
00:13:53
Chris
It was. Yeah. Yeah.
00:13:54
the4thisthewrongday
yeah little guac on there.
00:13:55
Chris
Yep. It had a pepper jack cheese and a camera Southwest ranch or something. yeah Yeah, one bet.
00:14:07
the4thisthewrongday
I've been eating your favorite sandwich pretty much for the last two weeks because it's that time of year.
00:14:11
Chris
about Curled cheese?
00:14:13
the4thisthewrongday
No. the
00:14:15
the4thisthewrongday
The superior sandwich. The best sandwich you can make in the summertime anywhere on the Middle, Mideast.
00:14:21
Chris
Oh, God. Are you making your nasty ass tomato sandwiches?
00:14:25
the4thisthewrongday
Tomato sandwiches.
00:14:27
the4thisthewrongday
The best sandwich that you can make. It's summertime perfection. I've even been fancying up. Put some alfalfa sprouts on there. Maybe some cucumber.
00:14:35
Chris
you the three ah I'll just take the cucumber.
00:14:39
the4thisthewrongday
Perfection.
00:14:43
the4thisthewrongday
My dog ate a giant tomato today because I dropped on the floor and a maniac ate the whole thing.
00:14:48
the4thisthewrongday
Look the size of his head.
00:14:50
Chris
yeah Speaking of maniac dogs, last night, the dogs you took them out before bedtime. Mabel comes in. I noticed she's like licking her chops a lot.
00:15:01
Chris
i was like, oh no, she sits down and her mouth, she is just foaming at the mouth. She had grabbed a toad or something, I guess.
00:15:08
the4thisthewrongday
Oh, God. She's high.
00:15:09
Chris
And she's just, and you can see like she, she had this look of like mistakes were made and there's just foam pouring out of her mouth.
00:15:17
Chris
It's like, yeah. Oh, dummy.
00:15:21
the4thisthewrongday
You'd like to say, that's going happen again, but it's going again.
00:15:23
Chris
Oh yeah. Yeah. yeah. Absolutely.
00:15:29
Chris
So, yeah, we're ah getting ready for our vacation.
00:15:34
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, i mean, is this the first time you've not gone out to Deep Creek?
00:15:34
Chris
Going to the Outer... Yeah, we're going to the Outer Banks.
00:15:40
the4thisthewrongday
The OBX.
00:15:43
Chris
yeah Yeah. We haven't been in probably 12 years because the last time we went, I said, I'm never coming back to this place. For the love of God, i hope it washes away.
00:15:54
the4thisthewrongday
I was trying to, far as I understand.
00:15:58
the4thisthewrongday
Not fast enough.
00:15:58
Chris
wife and her family have decided it's time.
00:16:03
the4thisthewrongday
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Who wears the pants in this family, sir?
00:16:06
the4thisthewrongday
yeah You're a deputy chief.
00:16:09
the4thisthewrongday
You outrank her.
00:16:13
Chris
hilarious. You think that equates into anything?
00:16:17
the4thisthewrongday
i'll I'll text her later. Okay.
00:16:19
Chris
Yeah, please do. Yeah, yeah. yeah
00:16:23
the4thisthewrongday
yeah Yeah, it's funny how different, like, we're only 100 miles apart.
00:16:31
the4thisthewrongday
We we grew up 100.
00:16:33
the4thisthewrongday
You and I probably grew up less than 100 miles apart, technically, but, you know, close to 100 miles.
00:16:38
the4thisthewrongday
And we don't, nobody up here talks about going to the OBX.
00:16:44
the4thisthewrongday
That's not a thing. Like,
00:16:45
Chris
Go to the Hamptons.
00:16:47
the4thisthewrongday
No, we just go to the beach. Like, we're cool.
00:16:50
the4thisthewrongday
Like, we got Delaware beaches. We don't need anything fancy.
00:16:52
Chris
Yeah. Can't go to some of the Delaware beaches today.
00:16:57
Chris
ah They found high fecal counts in the water in Robeth.
00:17:03
the4thisthewrongday
It's all those Pennsylvania maniacs coming down.
00:17:03
Chris
Classy. Oh, yeah I'm sure that's what it is.
00:17:07
the4thisthewrongday
Pennsylvania.
00:17:07
Chris
Yeah. which yeah yeah Oh, my God. that but That was probably one of the worst things. Well, I don't understand. Well, no, it's probably stupid ways that my wife uses. But going to Philly, it took us through Jersey.
00:17:23
the4thisthewrongday
Oh, yeah, Connerberry.
00:17:26
Chris
Yeah, that was stupid. Stupid. Ah.
00:17:28
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, I don't know why Google likes that.
00:17:32
the4thisthewrongday
That's a thing that Google seems to prefer is to take you up and instead of cutting through Chester. I don't get it.
00:17:39
Chris
Yeah. Well, it's the same reason why when you're going to Baltimore, it tries to take you down Ritchie Highway, which is hell on earth.
00:17:47
the4thisthewrongday
Right.
00:17:48
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah. At least Jersey, it's not like you're getting off a highway you're still staying on the highway the whole time.
Infrastructure Concerns
00:17:53
the4thisthewrongday
but yeah is it is
00:17:53
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. ye yeah
00:17:56
the4thisthewrongday
And you're actually crossing an extra bridge. Two extra bridges.
00:18:01
the4thisthewrongday
It's dumb. yeah And the Delaware Bridge is a goddamn nightmare anymore. Insane.
00:18:08
the4thisthewrongday
remember people going to cross that bridge every day.
00:18:12
the4thisthewrongday
And I crossed it the other day and I saw a lot of rust. And I was like, I don't feel comfortable anymore.
00:18:19
Chris
Yeah. That's like, i mean, have you ever looked at the underside of a bridge?
00:18:23
the4thisthewrongday
Yes, and it's terrifying.
00:18:24
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's like, oh, to people drive across people walk across this.
00:18:29
the4thisthewrongday
Well, we we had ah we had in Delaware, i must have been three, four years ago, and like a structural engineer was driving on 95, and he went under under the overpasses, and he was like, oh my God.
00:18:44
the4thisthewrongday
So he's like calling DelDot and the governor's office, and have to close this bridge now. This thing's going to collapse. So they had to like do all these emergency repairs for millions of dollars because luckily this dude just drove high and was like, this thing's going to collapse.
00:18:59
Chris
Well, I mean, every bridge that you go over has already fallen down once.
00:19:05
the4thisthewrongday
What?
00:19:05
Chris
Because that's how they get the weight rating. They keep driving heavier and heavier trucks across it. And then when it collapses, they rebuild it and say, okay, it was, you know, whatever.
00:19:13
the4thisthewrongday
I don't think that's true. like i hope that's not true.
00:19:17
the4thisthewrongday
I think they just probably make that number up, honestly.
00:19:21
the4thisthewrongday
It's like the road that leads from our fire station that has a weight rating that is lower than our fire truck. Nobody really thought about that.
00:19:31
the4thisthewrongday
turn turn
00:19:33
the4thisthewrongday
It's literally the second turn of our fire station, well, the station you're at, and it's but you can't drive fire trucks on this road.
00:19:41
the4thisthewrongday
And boy, do we have a consider concerned citizen who has let us know that we're not supposed to go on her road to fire us.
00:19:47
Chris
Yeah. God, you remember for a while we would make it a point to go there?
00:19:50
the4thisthewrongday
Oh, yeah. Which, by the way, it's
00:19:52
Chris
It'd be three o'clock in the morning, no traffic. brown And as soon as you get past that house, dead quiet again.
00:20:00
the4thisthewrongday
such a dick move.
00:20:02
Chris
Yeah, God, we're all...
00:20:03
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, we're terrible people. but you We would do it.
00:20:07
the4thisthewrongday
Night or day. Oh, turn off the siren.
00:20:11
the4thisthewrongday
Very good.
00:20:11
Chris
Yep. Cheap, cap the calls on the south end of town. I know. Just go this way.
00:20:15
the4thisthewrongday
Yep, yep, yep. Yeah. poor lady. That's she gets. Don't pass to the fire department.
00:20:23
Chris
Yeah. Well, don't mess with a fire department at a public venue.
00:20:27
the4thisthewrongday
ah Yeah. And also her argument was dumb.
00:20:33
the4thisthewrongday
Like, I get it's frustrating and especially Salisbury. But you have to understand that we can't take, we have to go around traffic. So sometimes we have to take roads that are, maybe we have to take an extra turn, but it gets us out of 13 traffic.
00:20:51
the4thisthewrongday
you know so Yeah, oh totally.
00:20:54
Chris
One, it's also, I will, you know, speak up for us. We don't run lights and siren on a lot of stuff.
00:21:02
the4thisthewrongday
yeah Yeah.
00:21:03
Chris
I mean, i was proud.
00:21:05
the4thisthewrongday
Compared to a lot of Firehorns.
00:21:06
Chris
Yeah. I was proud of Sergeant yesterday for yeah downgrading his response to the motor vehicle accident involving a shopping cart.
00:21:16
the4thisthewrongday
Yesterday was the day of bullshit calls.
00:21:20
Chris
Yeah. I told him, i was like, you should have called for aviation.
00:21:20
the4thisthewrongday
it well
00:21:24
the4thisthewrongday
Yes. He should have.
00:21:26
the4thisthewrongday
well The dispatcher yesterday was really struggling. I'm sorry. and don't know i'd say what to say, but she was struggling.
00:21:33
the4thisthewrongday
She was not hitting tones. She dispatched that MVC, which the note said the lady was struck by shopping cart inside the store.
00:21:41
the4thisthewrongday
right like that's not an mvc but industrial accident was a guy had a fire extinguisher sprayed at him
00:21:49
Chris
Yeah, we were trying to figure that out. We were like, was he working on something and caught fire and then they put him out?
00:21:55
the4thisthewrongday
i think it was just an accidental squeezing of the fire extinguisher yeah yeah which they thought was appropriate time to call 911
00:21:58
Chris
Okay. Oh, okay. Hmm.
00:22:04
Chris
I'm surprised they didn't dispatch that as hazmat.
00:22:08
the4thisthewrongday
Then we, last night we had an AFA, lady poor lady was sleeping and her phone rang and she thought that was the smoke detector. So then she called 911 and I said, when I got there, I I think your phone's been ringing and your son's been trying to get ahold you for like the last 20 minutes.
00:22:26
the4thisthewrongday
She was like, what do I do if it goes off again? I said, answer the phone.
00:22:31
Chris
do I do? Oh, oh God.
00:22:35
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, she's like, well, can you replace my detectors? I'm like, no.
00:22:41
the4thisthewrongday
The phone rang.
00:22:44
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, that's rough.
00:22:45
Chris
But it's all connected.
00:22:49
the4thisthewrongday
I mean, we're all connected somehow, right?
00:22:51
the4thisthewrongday
If you believe in those weird physicists.
00:22:56
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, yeah. Well, there we go.
00:23:01
the4thisthewrongday
More rigmarole to rig.
00:23:03
Chris
I yeah no don't think so.
00:23:05
Chris
i guess time for topic one.
00:23:06
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah. Topic one. So this is a weird topic.
00:23:13
the4thisthewrongday
And yeah, it's not weird.
00:23:15
the4thisthewrongday
It's really based on our career. So this is going to be right inside baseball, people.
00:23:20
the4thisthewrongday
Sorry.
00:23:22
the4thisthewrongday
for Sorry.
00:23:22
Chris
we don't We don't play baseball, though.
00:23:24
the4thisthewrongday
We don't play baseball. Not very well.
00:23:26
the4thisthewrongday
We play wiffle ball, but we end up hurting people.
00:23:27
Chris
Yeah, I know. It's true.
00:23:31
the4thisthewrongday
ah So I had a conversation with a young man at my gym the other day who he works for Newcastle County Paramedics. First off, bully for him, the guy's got six years as a paramedic and makes more money than you do per year.
00:23:45
Chris
Oh, yeah, I'm sure.
00:23:46
the4thisthewrongday
Which made me like annoyed.
00:23:50
the4thisthewrongday
oh And second off, he... is all in on EMS. Listen this guy talk, he's super passionate about EMS. He's like, you know, I have no desire to do firefighting. This is what I want to do.
00:24:03
the4thisthewrongday
This is why i became a paramedic. And I'm like, man, that's awesome.
00:24:09
the4thisthewrongday
Why? And then it got me thinking like, what happened to that?
EMS vs. Fire Service Roles
00:24:14
the4thisthewrongday
Why do we in the fire service look down upon EMS? Where does that come from? Because everybody that we work with has done EMS at this point.
00:24:28
the4thisthewrongday
Everybody that is still working at our department has been there as an EMS provider.
00:24:34
Chris
Yep. Yeah. Feel free to like, crunch
00:24:35
the4thisthewrongday
We all, and it's not just us, right? This is not Salisbury Fire, this is the fire service.
00:24:43
the4thisthewrongday
And you get the impression that no fire department wants to do EMS, but all fire departments want to keep control of EMS.
00:24:45
Chris
while you're there.
00:24:50
Chris
Yeah. Mm-hmm. Oh, please stop. That exists. Yeah. That's the way to definitely look at it. It's that control thing, but. I think, well, I don't know if this is a reason why, but it's, I think it's because EMS is the replacement for the fire department.
00:25:10
the4thisthewrongday
Well, yeah.
00:25:10
Chris
Fire departments don't run fires like they used to. And if it wasn't for EMS, I mean, they they wouldn't need the staffing they have.
00:25:20
the4thisthewrongday
Well, that that becomes my question for the future, right?
00:25:24
the4thisthewrongday
like We had this conversation the other day yeah
00:25:25
the4thisthewrongday
I said, in 20 years, okay, I'm going to say something that a lot of people in the fire service going get really angry about.
00:25:34
the4thisthewrongday
So be prepared real quick.
00:25:37
the4thisthewrongday
As of today, i think most fire departments could basically get rid of their truck companies. um I don't see a cost benefit for a truck company.
00:25:49
the4thisthewrongday
I think they could be better served with a special service rescue truck or something. I think that would shift their focus and how they think and how they operate into a better world
00:26:05
the4thisthewrongday
But I think also in 20 years, most fire departments aren't going to need two, three engines in service.
00:26:13
the4thisthewrongday
you know and I i would be very careful how I say these things in a public forum. I'm not saying we need to get rid of the fire department, right that's but we have to shift our focus.
00:26:28
the4thisthewrongday
you know When we started in the fire department, we ran 3,000 think.
00:26:35
the4thisthewrongday
Right? And maybe a couple hundred fire calls, actual fire calls, things were on fire.
00:26:39
Chris
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:26:42
the4thisthewrongday
We have, what we run 6,000 calls now, 7,000 calls, right?
00:26:46
the4thisthewrongday
just fire. For 5,000, and probably run 60 fire calls, maybe even less.
00:26:48
Chris
No. Are you talking combined? Oh, fire calls. ah About.
00:26:56
Chris
Yeah, four or five.
00:26:57
the4thisthewrongday
four five thousand
00:26:59
the4thisthewrongday
and we probably run sixty fire calls
00:27:03
the4thisthewrongday
maybe even less
00:27:04
Chris
Yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah. It's definitely a lower percentage than it used to be.
00:27:08
the4thisthewrongday
Right, and I'm not saying we need to get rid of capital pieces, but boy, we have to really, we don't have to, because it's not going to affect my career, but they're going to have to eventually go, what cost benefit are we getting out of this?
00:27:23
the4thisthewrongday
Like, what does this piece actually do on a daily basis?
00:27:27
Chris
Right. Yeah. yeah Yeah.
00:27:31
the4thisthewrongday
Ladder truck costs about 1.5 million to ah probably pushing 2 million these days.
00:27:34
Chris
that's, it's ridiculous. Yeah.
00:27:39
the4thisthewrongday
for a piece that you really only need. So if we were, again, I'm only, I know this is gonna blow up and people are gonna come after me.
00:27:48
the4thisthewrongday
Just in our district only, if we ran 60 fires last year, which we probably ran 70, let's just say 70.
00:28:01
the4thisthewrongday
55 of them were probably contained to the room of origin, right?
00:28:06
the4thisthewrongday
Maybe 50.
00:28:08
the4thisthewrongday
None of those is required a ladder chunk and intervention at all.
00:28:14
Chris
Yeah. I mean, yeah. Well, you figure the vast majority of structures that are greater than two stories are sprinklered.
00:28:23
the4thisthewrongday
Well, that's kind of my side of this is that, you know, as the code gets stricter and stricter and stricter and enforcement is better and better and better. What does that look like for the fire service?
00:28:35
the4thisthewrongday
Because it I was having this conversation with my friend on Monday, I said,
00:28:39
the4thisthewrongday
You know AI is not going to replace my job, but we're replacing ourselves with the fire code, right?
00:28:47
the4thisthewrongday
Not that we'll ever be gone because there always will be calls for rescue stuff that we do and, you know, motor vehicle accidents.
00:28:55
the4thisthewrongday
But do those require a fully staffed fire engine and ladder truck and a backup engine?
00:29:01
the4thisthewrongday
don't know.
00:29:08
Chris
Yeah, it's shifting. it Well, it's changed, and that's what the fire service wants and hates at the same time.
00:29:14
the4thisthewrongday
Well, don't think we want it.
00:29:16
the4thisthewrongday
but I'm going to be very clear in that I think we don't want it. I think we were forced to take them.
00:29:21
Chris
meet we need it. Yeah.
00:29:23
the4thisthewrongday
Well, we were forced to take on roles that we were never designed for.
00:29:28
the4thisthewrongday
And when chief officers became chief officers, not i be not this generation chief officers, but but to two, three generations of chiefs before, like they were never considering these things in the fire department.
00:29:41
the4thisthewrongday
know, we didn't go to accidents back in the day. That was an EMS call, right?
00:29:46
the4thisthewrongday
and we And we should be going accidents.
00:29:47
the4thisthewrongday
I'm not saying, look, if if your justification to me was fire engines to go on accidents and we they need to be big bulky built vehicles because they block the roadway and keep our footer safe, so that's a million dollars well spent to me, right?
00:29:57
Chris
Yeah. Sure. Yep. Absolutely.
00:30:02
the4thisthewrongday
That that right there is worth staffing that piece apparatus.
00:30:05
the4thisthewrongday
Does it need to be a fire engine at the point?
00:30:10
the4thisthewrongday
conversations that you had you know i just i don't know what the fire service is going to look like in 10 years i can't imagine it in 20 years seems i don't know
00:30:24
Chris
Well, I mean, in 10 years, we'll have the flying cars. and
00:30:30
the4thisthewrongday
in 10 years they'll finally have the new engine station one but but that's another side of the whole fire service
00:30:33
Chris
oh yeah No, truck two will be back in service.
00:30:38
the4thisthewrongday
um two like so but that's a whole other you know view of the fire service
00:30:40
Chris
God. What? I mean, kind of side tangent to what you're talking about earlier, though. I mean, come when truck tubes out service and then truck one went out of service and like, what? What if something goes with the tower? I said, honestly, instead of running the tower, I'd rather em run the rescue.
00:30:55
the4thisthewrongday
yeah yeah i but it's it's a mentality that
00:30:59
Chris
But but wait we got to be on the truck.
00:31:03
the4thisthewrongday
Right, because we've taught ourselves, right? Because yeah in the 70s and 80s, they needed truck companies, right?
00:31:10
the4thisthewrongday
Like they they were very important to how fires operated. I mean, we didn't maintain, very rarely, there was no public education firefight in fire safety. There was no, you know, keep your doors shut.
00:31:22
the4thisthewrongday
There was nothing keeping fires contained to rooms of of origin.
00:31:27
the4thisthewrongday
Ladder trucks were very important back then.
00:31:28
Chris
I mean, hell, back in that day, they were putting carpet up the walls.
00:31:32
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, yeah, platter trucks were very important back then.
00:31:35
the4thisthewrongday
And now, like, I look at our guys in the truck and I'm like, you guys are kind of, you're taking the pick them piss out of everybody, right?
00:31:45
the4thisthewrongday
Like, you know that if we go to a 13-story building, your vehicle is not, it's not useful.
00:31:52
the4thisthewrongday
but you still require us to put a big space up front for it.
00:31:56
the4thisthewrongday
right like we we what
00:32:02
the4thisthewrongday
i we We're trapped in what we think the fire service should be, and we're not looking what the fire service is.
00:32:12
the4thisthewrongday
right and
00:32:13
Chris
Well, some people I think are, but it's definitely.
00:32:20
Chris
It's the same people that, well, the people you're talking about are the ones that they see like the Euro style firefighting and all and they're like, oh my gosh, yeah it's like, yeah, that's a perfect example. Look at a fire engine in Paris, France.
00:32:36
the4thisthewrongday
Sure.
00:32:36
Chris
It's the size of an RV, maybe.
00:32:40
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah.
00:32:40
Chris
I mean, it's yeah, it's built for what it's needed to do and that's it
00:32:46
the4thisthewrongday
Well, we... i This can really nitty-gritty about engine building, but we build fire engines like tomorrow the world's going to end and the largest call that we ever go on is going to happen and the city is going to burn down if we don't put this thing on the engine.
00:33:04
the4thisthewrongday
but Like...
00:33:06
the4thisthewrongday
Europe builds engine going, well, everywhere they go, there's a hydrant.
00:33:10
the4thisthewrongday
They're probably not going to use more than a thousand gallons of water total. Right? ah Because we're going to have hydrants.
00:33:19
the4thisthewrongday
So we don't need engines with 150 gallons.
00:33:20
Chris
And they don't need 85 feet of ladders because...
00:33:26
the4thisthewrongday
They...
00:33:26
Chris
the building will either have a stairwell or they'll throw an exterior ladder and they're done.
00:33:32
the4thisthewrongday
I had a class with a guy from Finland and you know he's one of these guys who comes from Finland and says look we've had one line of duty death in 30 years right and what are you guys doing different and he's like we don't even have ladder companies it's not ah we have ground ladders and that's it I'm like well how do you do this he's like we don't like well
00:33:57
the4thisthewrongday
That makes a lot of sense, but can't, you know.
00:33:59
the4thisthewrongday
yeah But then I look at the EMS side of things. This is where my topic really started was.
00:34:07
the4thisthewrongday
I think part of our problem in the fire service side is we're not paying enough to our employees because we're trying to do too much.
00:34:20
the4thisthewrongday
Now, if you look at these EMS only models,
00:34:25
the4thisthewrongday
They seemingly, the guy i was talking to, and look, I think Newcastle County pays a lot more money than a lot of places.
00:34:32
the4thisthewrongday
He said they have too many paramedics right now. He said they're going to have to put another unit up because they're going to have all these people graduate and they have nowhere to put them.
00:34:42
the4thisthewrongday
So clearly they're doing something right and we're doing something wrong.
00:34:45
Chris
yes yeah yeah yeah yeah
00:34:47
the4thisthewrongday
Right. And it's the question that, you know, let's look at, I'm the mayor of the city.
00:34:54
the4thisthewrongday
You're telling me you need this million dollar fire truck, this million dollar fire truck, this million dollar fire truck, and you're going on 99% of your calls are EMS. Make that make sense to me.
00:35:05
the4thisthewrongday
i you know and Look, I'm an engine guy.
00:35:14
the4thisthewrongday
um an engine lieutenant. That's i do um on a daily basis. I'm not saying get rid of me.
00:35:19
the4thisthewrongday
But I don't know what me should really be now.
00:35:23
Chris
Well, I mean, I think what you and your job role and, you know, but I mean, Station One, you guys are a different breed anyway.
00:35:31
the4thisthewrongday
Well, you were the best of the list.
00:35:31
Chris
Because, well, yeah, I mean, but you're self-sufficient. You're away from things. it's um Engine One is the last true engine company in the city of Salisbury, in my opinion.
00:35:45
the4thisthewrongday
Sure.
00:35:45
Chris
And it's the last true working firehouse. Yeah.
00:35:48
the4thisthewrongday
Very true. These are true statements that I agree with 100%. And i would say we can't get rid of...
00:35:58
the4thisthewrongday
I don't know what the world is where we get rid of a fire engine. Right. Like the concept of what we Americans call fire engine, because engine one obviously has to have more water than the engine uptown.
00:36:10
the4thisthewrongday
Right. But why did engine 16 have to have 750 gallons a minute or 750 gallons a tank?
00:36:17
the4thisthewrongday
What was that? You didn't make that decision. This was not you.
00:36:20
the4thisthewrongday
But justify that.
00:36:21
the4thisthewrongday
Like, it doesn't make any sense.
00:36:23
the4thisthewrongday
It's a city engine that if it runs out of the city, they take the tanker.
00:36:28
Chris
Right. Yeah. I don't, I don't, I don't understand that.
00:36:34
the4thisthewrongday
Like, NG1, I get it.
00:36:34
Chris
I guess it's because, I mean, that's, I mean, well, I think what it is, is the way this Salisbury was at that point is an engine is an engine is an engine.
00:36:45
Chris
So the engines at headquarters are going to be the same layout as the ones at two, as the ones at one. And it's just, yeah, the redundancy. Hmm.
00:36:55
the4thisthewrongday
The redundancy is crazy. you know, but, you know, it's one of my, I know I'm the squad guy at station one. Everybody hates me because I like, I keep bringing squad concept, but when all of what 80% of my calls are vehicles and yeah EMS stuff, should my piece of apparatus reflect that?
00:37:20
the4thisthewrongday
Right? Like 1% of my calls are fire.
00:37:25
the4thisthewrongday
Right? But
00:37:28
the4thisthewrongday
30% of my calls are fire investigating, right? Checking out if there's an actual cause of an alarm.
00:37:31
Chris
Mm hmm. Yeah. Yeah.
00:37:34
the4thisthewrongday
We have to be prepared for those calls. I'm not saying get rid of our airbags.
00:37:36
Chris
Why do people always are like, oh, it's in zone one.
00:37:39
the4thisthewrongday
ah i actually had that fixed yesterday at Parkside High School. They gave me a map of all their zones, which was very helpful.
00:37:46
Chris
No, that now that that's delightful. Yeah, because you.
00:37:49
the4thisthewrongday
They have like 40 of them.
00:37:52
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah. But you know, that's so 30% of my calls are going and making sure there's not a fire. 1% fire 30%.
00:37:58
the4thisthewrongday
thirty percent The rest is EMS, right?
00:38:02
the4thisthewrongday
It's either extricating someone from a ah situation or literal EMS. And my unit, I'm just going to take my engine and it was built well before this was a conversation.
00:38:18
the4thisthewrongday
1% of it is meant ah set up for EMS and extrication of its total space of the vehicle.
00:38:24
Chris
Yep. Yeah. Hey, you've got what? Two bags and a AED?
00:38:29
the4thisthewrongday
And we now have struts on my engine.
00:38:32
the4thisthewrongday
ands right but that's you know I look at some of these places like Dallas-Fort Worth where engines are, the bigger part of their engines aero boards and shutting down highways.
00:38:44
the4thisthewrongday
I'm like, maybe that's where we should be going. you know that's what that's I always tell people, I'm more afraid getting hit on the bypass than any other part of my job.
00:38:57
the4thisthewrongday
That's where I think we're most likely to get hurt.
00:39:00
the4thisthewrongday
look at...
00:39:05
the4thisthewrongday
i look at
00:39:05
Chris
God, and that was that was one of the nice things about the old, old engines. If you were the chauffeur, you could pull in nose the driver's side out and then slide across the seat and get out on the officer's side.
00:39:19
the4thisthewrongday
It's true. Yeah. Now the worst part is the, you bump hit a bump and you knock your head off, but you know, yeah.
00:39:27
the4thisthewrongday
But, you know, I look at an agency like Newcastle County and say that when they go to the mayor or the county government, they say, Hey, we've hit X calls. We need X more paramedics.
00:39:39
the4thisthewrongday
We need to pay them this much money. We need another unit. Those units costs a hundred thousand dollars. I don't know.
00:39:47
the4thisthewrongday
Probably, you know,
00:39:48
Chris
but Transport unit or chase.
00:39:50
the4thisthewrongday
No, no, chase unit.
00:39:52
Chris
Oh, the chasing it. Yeah. Yeah. A hundred grand easily.
00:39:55
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, right?
00:39:55
Chris
I mean, I'd say, i mean, can get something nice for probably 80, but.
00:39:58
the4thisthewrongday
Right. Let's say 100 grand. But they have numbers and say, hey, we need X, X, and X.
00:40:03
the4thisthewrongday
when When we as a fire slash EMS department go, hey, Mr.
00:40:07
the4thisthewrongday
Mayor, we have hit this number of calls. We need to upstaff this.
00:40:14
the4thisthewrongday
But we can't go in there and say, we've had this many calls, and that means we need another fire engine.
00:40:20
the4thisthewrongday
Right, our data shows that we need another yeah EMS unit, chase buggy, and we need pay to commiserate with that.
00:40:29
the4thisthewrongday
I think that really hurts all fire departments that are doing fire and EMS. You know, like real bad.
00:40:36
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. It's like I'm and like you said, people come at me with pitchforks and torches, but I'm trying to figure out how we could incorporate EMS only.
00:40:52
Chris
And the argument, and you know, I heard something, well, they can't make as much as a firefighter paramedic because you know, they're trained in fire also.
00:40:52
the4thisthewrongday
i I don't think...
00:41:01
Chris
It's like, they should be trained at or paid higher because they're specialized in EMS, in my opinion.
00:41:07
the4thisthewrongday
And they do that every day.
00:41:10
the4thisthewrongday
Look, you just tell me when i will take it to the union because I've already started having conversations with the union leadership. And I say, if I hear one thing out of you people about EMS only in what they get paid, you and I will have it out and we will do a cage match.
00:41:28
the4thisthewrongday
And they're like, it's not fair. I'm like, it is fair because you don't want to go to paramedic school and you don't want ride animals every day.
00:41:36
the4thisthewrongday
That's the end of the conversation.
00:41:38
the4thisthewrongday
Those people justify your job.
00:41:38
Chris
Yeah. oh yeah yeah.
00:41:43
the4thisthewrongday
just yeah that conversation i can't i can't have it with them ah you know and somebody was saying well the union so the union shouldn't be involved in this conversation you shouldn't be involved in any operational stuff that's not safety that's it you know you know if
00:41:58
Chris
I mean, working conditions, pay and benefits.
00:42:03
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, if the chief came to me and said, well hey, we're giving you tin helmets and we're giving you rubber boots again, then the union should get involved, right?
00:42:11
the4thisthewrongday
But if the if the fire chief says, hey, I can't justify this piece. I'm going to take those people, put them in a different piece. It's going to change nothing in our safety. It's going to keep everybody safe.
00:42:23
the4thisthewrongday
The union has no say in that conversation.
00:42:26
the4thisthewrongday
you know It's like we were having conversation about two and two again and people are like, well, the union.
00:42:27
Chris
Yeah. I mean, yeah.
00:42:29
the4thisthewrongday
I said, the union has nothing to do with that conversation.
00:42:32
the4thisthewrongday
It is a operational decision that affects nothing about the union.
00:42:37
Chris
Yeah. If the chief woke up Monday morning and said, you know what? We're going to run four BLS transport units and two fly cars. And then like you said, it's not going to affect staffing and off we go.
00:42:50
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, that's the fire chase program in my view.
00:42:51
Chris
Yeah, that's. Yeah. Or if he wakes up and says, you know what? ah um D shift, you have that one extra quote unquote, one extra person.
00:43:02
the4thisthewrongday
Oh, well, he's not not there yet.
00:43:05
Chris
Right, right. But I'm saying when once you're, you'll be the shift with 23, you know, oh, you've got 23, that one extra person.
00:43:06
the4thisthewrongday
We will.
00:43:12
Chris
Yeah. Every shift they are yep on the fire boat from seven to five. And then from five till seven in the morning, they're on, you know, watch or something.
00:43:22
the4thisthewrongday
sure that is his priority and and i heard the excuse well the union leadership said this i said what did you take it has it gone to the floor because the leadership doesn't get to make decisions the floor makes decisions no they think they do they do not and we've we've had that conversation too but you know and the fire chief this is where
00:43:22
Chris
That's his prerogative.
00:43:36
Chris
They don't. Yeah. Yeah.
00:43:48
the4thisthewrongday
they're agree with me. And I think, I think many departments need to listen to this is the fire chief needs to be looking at the needs of the department of the city. The union is there to look after the safety and the wellbeing of its membership, right?
00:44:04
the4thisthewrongday
I'm not saying get rid of unions. because I'm a pro union guy. I think the the union I double F is important part of the triangle of conversation between labor and the management and the city.
00:44:16
the4thisthewrongday
think the problem is when the union starts saying, we're going to dictate this, right? Like I think a certain conversation that's going on in the city of Salisbury is asinine and should never have been brought up by the union right now.
00:44:31
the4thisthewrongday
You know, the union should not be asked, telling the fire chief, this is the, what logo we want on our gear. That's not a conversation. That's if the fire chief says, i want you guys to wear pretty pink.
00:44:42
the4thisthewrongday
We're wearing pretty pink.
00:44:43
the4thisthewrongday
It's happens.
00:44:45
the4thisthewrongday
you know you have You have options if you don't want hard for a rink.
00:44:48
the4thisthewrongday
It's called going somewhere else.
00:44:51
the4thisthewrongday
you know
00:44:51
Chris
Yeah. But you would have thought I was an insane person because I said, Hey, when we're trying out this, you know, these different sets of gear, why don't we have somebody try out Euro style?
00:45:01
the4thisthewrongday
Sure.
Future of Fire Departments
00:45:07
the4thisthewrongday
This is where NFPA has really lost me.
00:45:11
the4thisthewrongday
Six years ago, NFPA said, by 2024, we're putting out a new standard going to the Euro-style helmet.
00:45:17
the4thisthewrongday
And they got so much pushback, and they had so much data to prove why they were doing it, and they caved.
00:45:22
Chris
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
00:45:27
the4thisthewrongday
And so we're not doing it.
00:45:30
the4thisthewrongday
Ridiculous.
00:45:31
Chris
Oh, yeah, that's well, it just shows that, like you said, it's a pseudo political agency that really is more focused on
00:45:31
the4thisthewrongday
You know.
00:45:45
Chris
I don't know. the vocality of certain people as opposed to the overall safety if they back down on stuff like that.
00:45:52
the4thisthewrongday
Well, one of the things that annoys me about the fire service now is the gatekeepers. I'm the gatekeeper of what it makes it to be a fireman.
00:46:04
the4thisthewrongday
I'm not saying me.
00:46:04
the4thisthewrongday
I'm saying these people say that.
00:46:05
Chris
Right. Yeah. Yeah. yeah
00:46:06
the4thisthewrongday
but I'm the gatekeeper of what an ideal firefighter is. and An ideal firefighter's got gear that's burnt up and it's got a helmet that slants to the left. And look, I wear a leather helmet. I know that there are arguments to say that I should be wearing a ah plastic helmet.
00:46:21
the4thisthewrongday
But to be fair, the plastic helmets I have at work don't fit my giant noggin of a head, right?
00:46:29
the4thisthewrongday
It's a real problem when you got a head that's a seven and five eighths or something like that.
00:46:33
the4thisthewrongday
But, you know, um it's not, I think it's unhealthy and it's insane 2025 for these
00:46:45
the4thisthewrongday
let's just say people who don't really have the knowledge and ability like if somebody from the 80s and new york city came to me and said this is what we did in the 80s i would say that's really cool you guys did some real badass firefighting and that yeah that's like the heroes of firefighting that we all looked up through but that's not 2025 firefighting anymore yeah right you know and if nfva says hey this gear set is better at preventing cancer and firefighters and then we all go
00:47:00
Chris
yeah right yeah that was yeah that's 40 some years ago
00:47:13
Chris
right hmm yeah i yeah yeah
00:47:14
the4thisthewrongday
We're not doing because it doesn't look cool. Because that's the only argument you really have is doesn't look cool.
00:47:19
the4thisthewrongday
Right. Then you're an asshole because our department has lost two people to cancer.
00:47:27
the4thisthewrongday
You know, cancer is raging through every department that I know of. You know, fuck you. That's all i can say.
00:47:35
the4thisthewrongday
You know. You know, it's bit far off of my topic, but that's my current view.
00:47:42
the4thisthewrongday
And I think a lot of it comes from these podcast assholes.
00:47:46
the4thisthewrongday
I feel like might be one of them now, but because I'm saying things about fire service, but, you know, stop stop being 10 years into your career and you're 27 years old, 29 years old, and you're telling people what the fire service should be, you know, because you don't have...
00:47:48
Chris
Right now we are, but yeah.
00:48:06
the4thisthewrongday
the right to tell people what the fire service should you don't have the right to tell anybody who's not in your company how things should operate right
00:48:13
Chris
Yeah. And unless you're, if you're one of these younger guys or gals, he's like, Hey, you know, I see the direction it's going and it needs to be changed and it needs to be, you know, this or that.
00:48:25
Chris
Sure. I get that. But like you said, the ones that are like, what's yeah tradition. No, no.
00:48:31
the4thisthewrongday
yeah but i don't even agree with I'm not saying, i i feel hard to say anything other than i think Station 1 D shift on Salisbury should operate like this.
00:48:44
the4thisthewrongday
Right? Because I can't go to Baltimore and tell Baltimore how they should operate.
00:48:49
Chris
Oh, yeah, there yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:48:50
the4thisthewrongday
Right? like I can't go to Hebron and tell them.
00:48:52
Chris
No, I agree with you. It's definitely more for, yeah, your company.
00:48:56
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah. it's it's I don't even feel comfortable going to the other lieutenant on my shift and saying, I think you guys should do this.
00:49:04
the4thisthewrongday
right And I'm the senior lieutenant, quote unquote.
00:49:06
Chris
Well, it's because he's a knuckle dragger on a truck, though.
00:49:06
the4thisthewrongday
but Well, yeah, i can't i know he can't tie his shoes. It's fine.
00:49:12
Chris
Yeah. Oh, that's why we bought slip-ons for Station 2.
00:49:13
the4thisthewrongday
But it's not my it's not my place to tell another company how to operate.
00:49:20
the4thisthewrongday
It's not my place to tell another boss how to run their shift.
00:49:26
the4thisthewrongday
And I think that's a problem in the fire services. Like everybody thinks, I like went to a class one time and a guy from Phoenix is like, you should go on a hazmat call with 32 technicians. And I said, we don't have 32 technicians in the whole county.
00:49:39
the4thisthewrongday
What are you talking about? You know, but that he was pushing for NFPA to change the the code or the that's the standard to say 32 technicians before you go on a hazmat call.
00:49:49
the4thisthewrongday
And I said, you are you are not even thinking about departments that aren't yours.
00:49:55
the4thisthewrongday
You know, i you know it's it's like the conversation of paramedics, BLS, how are you gonna operate them? It's not my place to tell a fire chief how to run their EMS, right?
00:50:07
the4thisthewrongday
If I'm a voter or a citizen of that district, i have a so I should have a say in what's going on in my EMS, but I should not have a say in someone else's system, you know?
00:50:21
the4thisthewrongday
So it's it's it's worrying to me.
00:50:24
Chris
Yeah, no I get that. I did see something yesterday. Maybe it was. don't know. Or today. You're talking about the future. Charles County has a hazmat robot dog.
00:50:39
Chris
Like when there's, don't know, Dyson or whatever, you know, the ones that like the guy kicked and it looked at him.
00:50:44
the4thisthewrongday
ah yeah. Yeah. yeah
00:50:45
Chris
Yeah, it's it's it's one of those that they send in and stuff.
00:50:47
Chris
And it said something like, you know, we're seeing how this partnership will work out. We haven't adopted the dog yet. But was like, that's really cool that they're thinking about stuff like that. so Because they can send in, you know, the little robot mutt to look around.
00:51:05
the4thisthewrongday
drones and robots could fix 88% of TASMAT.
00:51:11
the4thisthewrongday
Right. You could do all the sampling, detecting, all of the things.
00:51:15
the4thisthewrongday
I just need somebody to go in there, turn wrenches, right?
00:51:18
the4thisthewrongday
The 88% of the the stuff that people are really afraid of, the stuff of going in there and gathering information, that be done by a robot today.
00:51:22
Chris
Yeah. Right. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
00:51:26
the4thisthewrongday
You know, just need somebody to give me the money.
00:51:30
the4thisthewrongday
Well, give us the money to do it. And we'll but all have a robot dog.
00:51:34
the4thisthewrongday
We have a robot alligator.
00:51:36
Chris
Yeah. ah Once we have a drone, we could have a a seagull.
00:51:42
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, yeah. but We'll dress the drone up in Sammy's suit.
00:51:48
the4thisthewrongday
Send him down range.
00:51:49
Chris
Maybe we could pitch that to the college and say that's, you know, it's going to be a flying mascot.
00:51:53
the4thisthewrongday
The first time we do it, like it's a flammable liquid.
00:51:56
the4thisthewrongday
It all burns up and it looks like the Terminator walking towards us.
00:51:57
Chris
Oh, my Kids are running.
00:52:00
the4thisthewrongday
It's like all captured on WBOC. It's like this... burning drone walking up going kill me i'm sammy they brought to you by salvo university
00:52:14
Chris
it's programmed to squawk like a seagull. Yeah.
00:52:20
the4thisthewrongday
i'm in for that alone i'm in oh man
00:52:22
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. Oh, gosh.
00:52:31
the4thisthewrongday
Well, my rant about yeah EMS and fire is over.
00:52:35
the4thisthewrongday
here's why Here's my takeaways. Pay us more. Make... but Prepare us to do the things we should be doing.
00:52:44
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah.
00:52:44
Chris
Mic drop. Everybody listen.
00:52:45
the4thisthewrongday
Mic drop. Squads everywhere.
00:52:49
Chris
Oh my gosh, the squad concept works so well.
00:52:53
the4thisthewrongday
can't... You know, I just can't see the...
00:52:55
Chris
I don't see the apprehension from it.
00:52:57
the4thisthewrongday
I don't see the apprehension, and I can't see the downside.
00:53:01
the4thisthewrongday
What is the downside?
00:53:02
Chris
It's one of those you just have to wrap it up in a different package and sell it that way.
00:53:09
the4thisthewrongday
What's the package? Because I would really like to wrap it up in that package and sell it because...
00:53:11
Chris
don't know. i don't I don't know. You call it like a
00:53:19
Chris
don't know, a specialty engine or something?
00:53:19
the4thisthewrongday
ah squint.
00:53:23
the4thisthewrongday
It's crazy because we were... we Everybody bought into quints.
00:53:27
the4thisthewrongday
is that Is that maybe what burned us?
00:53:29
the4thisthewrongday
Everybody bought into Quint's and then it didn't work?
00:53:30
Chris
ah Yeah. Yeah, the Quint concept didn't Well, it worked for the agencies that did the full Quint concept, but they didn't. Yeah, we didn't.
00:53:39
the4thisthewrongday
Right, we definitely didn't.
00:53:39
Chris
yeah we We ran a single Quint. That ain't how that works.
00:53:42
the4thisthewrongday
Right. It's not, it makes no sense. Yeah.
00:53:45
the4thisthewrongday
I just, is it the Quint that burned it?
00:53:49
the4thisthewrongday
You know, it's like the rescue conversation I have with the sergeant you were praising us from yesterday.
00:53:54
the4thisthewrongday
You know, he's like, we should have a staffed rescue company i'm like you can't even justify that in fairy tale land what are you talking about you know this is 2025 you don't extricate people like you do like it was 1980 you know most times this door pops and a really involved rescue truck a rescue call might now be using a ram you know
00:54:21
Chris
Yeah, or it's a technical rescue that you are using the man versus machine kit or something, which why couldn't you?
00:54:26
the4thisthewrongday
Right. Yeah.
00:54:28
Chris
yeah and the last few times they've grabbed the kit, put it on the engine, gone to the scene.
00:54:33
the4thisthewrongday
Right. Yeah. You don't, we don't use the big 42s anymore. We don't do dash rolls anymore because cars aren't built that way anymore.
00:54:42
the4thisthewrongday
You know, it's a, it's,
00:54:44
Chris
God, I was talking to a younger member about I said, yeah, I said, you know, we had a change of direction and we hooked the chains up and we did a steering wheel pull and they're like, you did a what?
00:54:57
Chris
It's okay. I mean, we we took took the roof off and then we made a couple of relief cuts and we, you know, did a reverse stash roll out, you know, pulling the column out of their way.
00:55:08
Chris
Why would you do that? Because that's what we had to do. That's how, you know, this, this massive steel that when we got there was all crumpled up, we had to do something with it.
00:55:18
the4thisthewrongday
Mm-hmm. But just cars don't, they're not built that way.
00:55:19
Chris
Yeah. And they're like, yeah, yeah.
00:55:21
the4thisthewrongday
They don't even have steering cars anymore.
00:55:24
the4thisthewrongday
Well, you know, it's what got me yesterday by, we're but going through my rookie's packet and it says has to tie these knots.
00:55:30
Chris
Yeah. What? finished
00:55:34
the4thisthewrongday
And then at the bottom it says, and you have to tie these knots to the Mifri standard to take this tool up the la up or a rope.
00:55:40
the4thisthewrongday
And I said, you're never goingnna have to do this ever again except for today. Because I've, in 21 years, never tied a halogen bar to a rope and sent it to the roof. It's never happened. And if you did, just tie a rope, set it up.
00:55:52
the4thisthewrongday
But whatever.
00:55:54
the4thisthewrongday
so But then he we get to one of the knots and it says, Bolin.
00:55:57
the4thisthewrongday
And he's like, I don't know what a Bolin is. And I said, what?
00:56:00
Chris
Yes, he does. He's lying to you because we went over Boland's.
00:56:04
the4thisthewrongday
I'm just going to
00:56:05
Chris
We so well, this was they were like on a break or something and we we're just sitting in the engine bay BSing and there was rope there. So I'm just fiddling with it. I'm like, we tied a Boland and they're like messing with it because, yeah, none of them knew how to tie a Boland.
00:56:19
the4thisthewrongday
Well, apparently it's not taught in Firefighter 1 anymore.
00:56:22
Chris
No, it's not because it's an old knot.
00:56:25
the4thisthewrongday
It's an old knot that we don't really use. That's
00:56:28
Chris
Yeah. That's why was like, yeah, I used to be able to throw a bowline. And they're like, what? It's like, yeah, you just throw it and you loop it. Boom. You got a bowline. They're like, okay, Mr. Magician.
00:56:37
the4thisthewrongday
yeah but like it blew my mind that we don't teach that in fire one anymore and i was like kind of makes sense because when's the last time you used on a call i've used it in specialty rescue that's it
00:56:45
Chris
Yeah. so Yeah. Magician just triggered something in my mind while we were
Unique Encounters & Gaming Slump
00:56:53
the4thisthewrongday
oh boy a psycho magician what does that mean
00:56:54
Chris
I met a psycho magician.
00:56:58
Chris
Yes. I think but he was one of the guys that develops the the doctor's boards that test. He's like one of the ones that like rates it and everything.
00:57:09
Chris
Yeah. He's a psycho. I think that's what he said. His title was psycho magician. don't know. Psycho magician. Psycho magician. Yeah. In my mind, he's a psycho magician.
00:57:20
the4thisthewrongday
All right, I'm ah on board.
00:57:23
the4thisthewrongday
Well, think with that, we should go to a topic, too.
00:57:25
Chris
yeah um Yeah. Topic two. um yeah I think I'm in one of those gaming slumps.
00:57:34
the4thisthewrongday
Oh, yeah.
00:57:36
Chris
I finished Expedition 33.
00:57:39
the4thisthewrongday
Sure.
00:57:40
Chris
And yeah, like Diablo was free the other day and I've been playing a little bit of it, but it's, I don't know. It's just not hooking me.
00:57:49
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, I felt the same way.
00:57:51
the4thisthewrongday
It didn't hook me.
00:57:51
Chris
Yeah. it I don't know.
00:57:54
the4thisthewrongday
It's fine.
00:57:55
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. It's one of those. i yeah I could see maybe I throw a podcast on and just chip away at things, but I don't know.
00:58:05
the4thisthewrongday
I feel you more than anything in the world because now if I play a game, I'm like... is this too complicated for what I want? I just want to turn my brain off.
00:58:16
the4thisthewrongday
You know, I've been playing Kingdom Two Crowns, which is an old game, but it's just like a time to turn my brain off.
00:58:21
the4thisthewrongday
It's two buttons. I don't have to do anything, you know?
00:58:25
the4thisthewrongday
And, um but then on the flip side, Microsoft just laid off 9,000 people and closed down a lot of their gaming side.
00:58:32
Chris
Yeah, that's awful.
00:58:34
the4thisthewrongday
So, you know, a lot of those games aren't going to come out now.
00:58:37
Chris
Yeah. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And it's a shame for all those people.
00:58:43
the4thisthewrongday
yeah it's a shame for all the people but
00:58:44
Chris
which especially since Microsoft, what, three months ago was like, oh yeah, we're doing great. We're doing this, we're doing that, you know? And yeah.
00:58:49
the4thisthewrongday
yeah they just put out microsoft game pass on the meta quest 3 you know and it's like well that's cool but there's not gonna be any games on that because you just canceled your gaming division like a week later what are what's going on
00:59:03
the4thisthewrongday
What really got me was they had um Rare was developing a new game and they cancelled it. and There could be many reasons why it got cancelled.
00:59:13
Chris
It was that perfect art.
00:59:14
the4thisthewrongday
but That was another game that got cancelled. It was Everwind or something like that
00:59:16
Chris
Yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah. Oh, God, what was that called? Ever... Yeah, I know exactly.
00:59:23
the4thisthewrongday
that. Never going to find out about it because it's gone. but you know That game is never going to come out now and we're not going get to experience it Because they're going to make GTA 6 and that's what they're all going to want.
00:59:36
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah. And I don't...
00:59:40
the4thisthewrongday
Everwild yet.
00:59:41
the4thisthewrongday
Like, I'm not interested in GTA 6. So, for me...
00:59:45
the4thisthewrongday
What is that going to mean? um I'm sure something's going to come out.
00:59:47
Chris
Yeah, and... Oh, yeah.
00:59:49
the4thisthewrongday
You know.
00:59:50
Chris
yeah Yeah, I mean, there's a couple of games on the horizon that will come out, but... Yeah, I just... don't know. And it's like, I've got Call of Duty, and I'm like, okay, yeah, I can play that. And I'm like, it's that little, like...
01:00:02
Chris
i don't know, carrot on the stick. I'm like, oh, you know, if I unlock this in the battle pass, I'll get this. I'm like, but do I really care?
01:00:09
the4thisthewrongday
Right. Right. Yeah. I've decided if it's cosmetic, I have no interest in them not getting involved.
01:00:18
the4thisthewrongday
You know, that's just not happening.
01:00:21
the4thisthewrongday
Let's see. What our games?
01:00:22
the4thisthewrongday
Games coming.
01:00:22
Chris
when that's like boom Diablo has ah that weird battle pass thing or whatever. I don't know.
01:00:27
the4thisthewrongday
Mm-hmm.
01:00:28
Chris
That was the other thing with Diablo. There's so many like like other things to it. like There's a battle pass and there's a storefront and there's a this and there's a that. and i get You can play online with other people.
01:00:47
the4thisthewrongday
Uh, yes, you can, yes.
01:00:48
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah.
01:00:50
Chris
Yeah, and that was the other thing that I almost didn't play it because I couldn't remember my Blizzard login.
01:00:56
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, that's problem.
01:00:57
Chris
was like, oh, God, what is this?
01:00:58
the4thisthewrongday
I'm just looking games that come out year. Avowed was pretty good.
01:01:02
the4thisthewrongday
Uh, it kept my... impression ah Civil 7 was an atrocious bomb. Uh, Spider-Man 2? That came out.
01:01:16
the4thisthewrongday
Uh...
01:01:17
Chris
ah Borderlands 4 looks like it's back to Borderlands. That might be fun.
01:01:21
the4thisthewrongday
That'll be nice. Yeah.
01:01:25
the4thisthewrongday
Dune Awakening haven't tried.
01:01:27
Chris
I don't want to play Death Stranding.
01:01:30
the4thisthewrongday
Oh, no. it just That doesn't look.
01:01:33
the4thisthewrongday
ah metal seaed salad Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater. That's a remake of the 04.
01:01:37
Chris
I don't know if I'm going to replay that, though.
01:01:37
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah. Yes. you know
01:01:41
Chris
ah goes to Yotai or Yotei. Whenever it comes out, I'll play that. But that's like November.
01:01:48
Chris
It's like the samurai game.
01:01:52
the4thisthewrongday
They're going reboot Fable.
01:01:55
Chris
Huh? Wait, we've been talking about that forever.
01:01:58
the4thisthewrongday
To be determined, hasn't kind of announced it yet.
01:02:03
the4thisthewrongday
But most of what I'm seeing are remakes or sequels.
01:02:07
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You have those one-offs like Expedition 33.
01:02:12
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, and avow.
01:02:12
Chris
and's I saw somebody the other day.
01:02:13
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah.
01:02:14
Chris
They were like, oh, they need to make a s sequel to that really quickly. And somebody... somebody else was like, no, they don't. They made a great game. Let them stay at that and then try something new. You know, it doesn't have to be sequel city.
01:02:23
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah.
01:02:27
the4thisthewrongday
It does not.
01:02:29
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah. Please stop with sequels right away.
01:02:33
the4thisthewrongday
You can try Sea of Thieves. It's a great game.
01:02:40
the4thisthewrongday
Supposedly, gets even better every day. Oh,
01:02:44
Chris
I don't know if I can even play that. Is it on PlayStation 5? Huh?
Critique of Gaming Industry & Personal Preferences
01:02:51
the4thisthewrongday
I love that game.
01:02:54
the4thisthewrongday
I don't know if it's cross-playable.
01:02:55
Chris
isn't keep of ah Online play doesn't say.
01:03:03
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, it's funny.
01:03:03
Chris
I don't want to sign in.
01:03:03
the4thisthewrongday
We talk about a gaming lull, and I tried this like on my vacation to be into the Switch, and nothing appealed to me, honestly, of the day.
01:03:13
Chris
yeah I think I'm going to take the Switch with me. But, yeah. I don't know.
01:03:20
the4thisthewrongday
And like the Switch 2 is not even on my horizon.
01:03:21
Chris
I'll probably play, like, Fire Emblem or something. No, it's not. No. Let's say they're talking about, oh, it's selling gangbusters and this and that.
01:03:28
Chris
I'm like, well, one, it's like the first console to come out that the production exceeded the demand.
01:03:36
the4thisthewrongday
Right.
01:03:36
Chris
So, of course, it's going to sell. by But it's the same thing. Like, what is everybody buying with it?
01:03:42
the4thisthewrongday
Right.
01:03:42
Chris
Mario Kart. what everything I've heard this it's just another Mario cart. Oh, it's got an open world and people are like, yeah, that's garbage. You just do this part. I'm like, then what's the hook other than just, okay.
01:03:52
the4thisthewrongday
Right.
01:03:55
the4thisthewrongday
Every game on the Switch that I want to play just feels like it's a game I would play on my phone.
01:04:00
Chris
Yes. That's I think that's a great way to put it.
01:04:03
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah. Like, if you could just put that as a mobile game on my phone, I would just play it there.
01:04:11
the4thisthewrongday
And the games that are beyond that, I'm like, I don't want to play this on a little handheld device.
01:04:13
Chris
Yeah. Well, that's like, there's a new Marvel game out on phones, the mystic mayhem or whatever. And I'm like, oh, I would play this on the switch. It'd be much better to play this on the switch instead of my little phone, but whatever.
01:04:27
the4thisthewrongday
Sure.
01:04:29
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah, it's tough right now, I think. It's you know it's also tougher. it sucks because you get old and you have more time you have more money, but not enough time.
01:04:41
the4thisthewrongday
So you're just like, ugh, I guess I'll play some game I've already played before.
01:04:45
the4thisthewrongday
I know it will be fun.
01:04:46
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. I think that's part of it, too.
01:04:49
the4thisthewrongday
Mm-hmm.
01:04:50
Chris
Or it's by the time I have time to play, I'm like.
01:04:55
Chris
I either. Yeah, I've got an hour or so, and it's like, yeah, but if I want to play a game, I want to play like something that's engaging in story and i might not yeah have enough time in an hour.
01:05:04
the4thisthewrongday
But I don't have time, man.
01:05:08
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah.
01:05:08
Chris
was like, Expedition 33. Yeah. beautiful game, you know really enjoyed it, but some of the cutscenes, I was like, oh my god.
01:05:14
the4thisthewrongday
Oh my god, they're so oppressive. It's so its so much.
01:05:19
the4thisthewrongday
Insane.
01:05:21
the4thisthewrongday
I'm sure it was a great game for everybody who loves it, but ah you lost me at the 15-minute cutscenes.
01:05:28
Chris
Yeah. Once I got the parrying down, I got better at it.
01:05:31
the4thisthewrongday
Yeah.
01:05:32
Chris
But there's this one hidden boss that I can't beat. that They're like, oh, you gotta build a one-shot build to do this and that. I'm like,
01:05:43
Chris
I shouldn't have to do that.
01:05:44
the4thisthewrongday
Shouldn't
Conclusion & Summer Well-Wishes
01:05:45
the4thisthewrongday
have to do that.
01:05:48
the4thisthewrongday
Well, I think we've wrapped up this podcasting the pod Both of us are pretty busy this week.
01:05:55
the4thisthewrongday
Enjoy your summer vacation. Please don't blow your hands up in 4th July.
01:06:00
the4thisthewrongday
Be nice to your local...
01:06:00
Chris
Yeah. By the time you're listening to this, I mean, you're probably healed up from your explosion, but hopefully not.
01:06:04
the4thisthewrongday
right Be nice to your local EMS providers and fired one firefighters.
01:06:11
the4thisthewrongday
Just remember, don't give oranges to truckies. They're too complicated for them.
01:06:15
Chris
Oh yeah. Yeah, you would see hilarity. Drop off a bag of oranges at a truck company.
01:06:20
the4thisthewrongday
They can only deal with apples. See you, folks.
01:06:22
Chris
Yep. See you folks.
