Chris: welcome back to another episode of the mythic giraffe podcast i'm chris and it's finally feeling a little winterish

mmmgelfling: And I'm Ron. Yeah,

mmmgelfling: yeah, it's supposed to rainy, sleety. And the maniacs in Delo are brining already, which means we're gonna get, you know, zero actual snowfall.

Chris: yeah yeah yeah i saw one model i don't know if like someone in Sussex County angered the gods or something, but there was like this bubble in Sussex that was like, you know, three inches and everything else around it was one or a coating.

mmmgelfling: That's nice.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: We only ever get...

Chris: It's probably right on that one strip of 13. You'll have to drive through. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: said it's definitely LB on the one strip of 13 that I have get through. We only ever get the really bad ones if they come from the west.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: If it comes out of the west and, like, north of us, that that's bad.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: They come up the coast. They don't hit us.

Chris: Yeah. Well, it's also usually, I guess, you know, it hits that warm water the whole way up and, or warmer water.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, yeah. it Turns out the ocean's much warmer than... It's real hard to freeze the entire ocean.

Chris: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Shockingly.

Chris: Which, but I saw it the other day, like the water temperature in the Delaware Bay it was like 40 degrees. It's like, oh, yeah.

mmmgelfling: There are many jobs that I don't think I could do in life. But being a diver who has to go consistently into that water, I can't do it.

Chris: yeah yeah that's like you remember back in the day when you know we would have our full dry suit on but for our head all we had was a wetsuit hood it's like oh yeah this is all i'm gonna have the worst you know ice cream headache for the next 20 minutes while i'm underwater

mmmgelfling: i

mmmgelfling: Yep.

Chris: yeah

mmmgelfling: it's all and then you know because we're not cool and fancy you got out of the water and into the oh wait there was nothing for you get into he just like i i me off i' click my ho my my fucking you freaking you beanie on yeah i don't do that anymore

Chris: Yeah.

Chris: Yeah. Yep. Yeah. Hmm. Yeah. Yeah. There are times I'm like, man, I do miss being a diver. But then I think about some of the dumb stuff. I'm like, no, no.

Chris: Like if it was, know, if we were like, you know, down in the Keys and the water temperature's 80 and a clear, and it's like, oh, we need you to go look for, you know, a bicycle.

Chris: Sure. Yep.

mmmgelfling: I'm cool.

Chris: I'm on it.

mmmgelfling: and Instead, it's the water's 30 degrees and it's black and some asshole is going to throw a turtle at you.

Chris: Hmm. Hmm.

Chris: Yeah. It's, yep. Hmm.

Chris: I didn't throw a turtle. I let the turtle go and it just, fate decided it would go right in front of your face.

mmmgelfling: ha ha

Chris: ha Fun, fun fact, folks. Painted turtles will swi swim in a straight line for about 10 feet.

mmmgelfling: and if they go about one inch in front of your your goggles and you didn't see them coming it's real scary

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: yeah good old days i

Chris: Yeah. yeah Yeah, but like that's the time. like we yeah We would just, yeah, two or three of us would get together and we'd go diving. yeah

mmmgelfling: kept our skills up just going diving i enjoy the diving part of it when it's you know not freezing cold water and don't enjoy the freezing cold water or it's two o'clock in the morning and know go look for the look at the bottom of the river the cu maniacs have no idea what's on the bottom of this river

Chris: Yeah.

Chris: Yeah.

Chris: Yeah. Mm-hmm.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah. And it's not look, it's just feel around blindly hoping that your hands not going into a snapping turtles mouth or a fish hook or yeah.

mmmgelfling: Right. Right. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Shopping cart.

Chris: Shopping cart. Oh my God. That was terrifying.

mmmgelfling: I mean, like, listen to the people on dive calls. Like, just go down there and look. And he's like, you have no idea what these guys are doing.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: it's

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: it's not It's not fun.

Chris: No, no.

Chris: Just go down and look.

mmmgelfling: Been there, done that.

Chris: Well, it's like those poor maniacs that are, work I'm sure they're getting paid buku bucks, but the drawbridge work around Mill Street.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: Yeah, just, I guess they just stay down there and like make sure the pylon goes straight for the first bit. I don't know, but.

mmmgelfling: I'm glad I decided to do it in the winter.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Could have done that in the summer.

Chris: Yeah. Well, I don't want to interrupt beach traffic.

mmmgelfling: Bastard.

mmmgelfling: A drawbridge in Salisbury?

Chris: I do, I am sure that's one of the things they talked about, which all the beach traffic should be taking a bypass, but whatever.

mmmgelfling: all the beach traffic should be taking the train that should be running across the bridge, but you know.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: oh who

Chris: God, can you imagine that if there was like this thing, it was like, you know, just random stops it's like, where are you going to? Why are we going to Ocean City? And you're in the middle of Salisbury. That's a ticket.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, that's fair.

Chris: Hmm.

mmmgelfling: That's fair.

Chris: Hmm.

mmmgelfling: So we get to Ocean City, or one of our part-time employees works in Ocean City. she She told me they had run five calls in the last month.

Chris: i that um yeah

mmmgelfling: Could you imagine?

mmmgelfling: Man, I said, what are you getting done all day?

Chris: that's yeah i took up crocheting i just imagine like they have this giant like you know every shift adds to it they've got this giant crochet manatee or something they're making

mmmgelfling: She's like, well, I took up crocheting.

mmmgelfling: I get antsy if...

mmmgelfling: I get antsy if I don't go on five calls in a day.

Chris: Right.

mmmgelfling: Like, man.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah. God, five calls in a month.

mmmgelfling: I couldn't do it.

Chris: Yeah. I think even Powellville does more than that. Nah, maybe not.

mmmgelfling: That's not true.

Chris: and Yeah, nah. Okay. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: I believe if you look at the numbers, they do three calls.

Chris: Yeah.

Chris: But yeah, it's still five. Five. Oh my gosh.

mmmgelfling: I just couldn't...

Chris: took up crocheting i've mastered i've mastered mandarin yeah i sat and philosophized and i figured out you know i i achieved true zen i mean

mmmgelfling: I'd crochet. Yeah, like I would learn languages. i

mmmgelfling: Yeah. And I don't get it because like the Delaware beaches now, there's people there all year round.

Chris: yeah no there's

mmmgelfling: Is it just that people don't live in Ocean City? I don't know.

Chris: What? No, there's people in ocean city. Well, yeah I mean, yes, they don't have as many people living there, but there, mean, there's still people going to ocean city for, yeah there's festivals on weekends and things.

Chris: I think it's just overall people aren't as dumb as they used to be, or we've got all these safety measures in place that prevent their idiocy from causing issues.

mmmgelfling: I think it's got to be the second one.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: I don't think it's the first one.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: ah Speaking of ah idiocy and preventing injury, ah got to go to the all-city meeting the other day.

Chris: no

mmmgelfling: You weren't you weren't there, right?

Chris: oh yeah yeah i was there yeah no i guess i got there early oh my gosh

mmmgelfling: Oh, you were there? Oh, you weren't sitting with us. Yep. Yep, they were the fancy people. ah So, the police chief, we've put um red light cameras at all of these specific ah red lights because we get really terrible accidents there and I'm like, what are you talking about?

Chris: yeah yeah

mmmgelfling: no Every red light camera you put in was at a place where no one can go more than 25 miles an hour. isn't that We've not had a bad wreck there in ever we have wrecks there they're called fender benders

Chris: yeah right but just what yeah yeah that's a i hear some of these you people talk like the look i like riding my bike i think bicyclists should be safe but i've heard like at the county meetings where you know people stand up and they're like oh we have so many bike accidents i'm like where what are you talking about yeah yeah

mmmgelfling: where your perception is not the reality of the numbers yeah

Chris: yeah yeah

Chris: Yeah, I thought you were going to talk about it at the all city meeting when yeah the the director of the zoo gave his presentation. Were you there for that when Chuck talked about it?

mmmgelfling: and I was there for that.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: Which, no, I don't think anything bad about i think it shows that the city put the right person in charge of the zoo because Chuck was like super engaged and enthusiastic.

mmmgelfling: Oh,

Chris: And I mean...

mmmgelfling: oh yeah, he seems seems like a puppy dog when it comes to talking about the zoo.

Chris: yeah yeah yeah if you've ever actually he worked for sea world for like six years yeah yeah he left there because he didn't like the way animals were treated i think but yeah but um but yeah it's just you know his enthusiasm like he got done talking i'm like i want to go to the zoo

mmmgelfling: That's fair.

mmmgelfling: I mean, my favorite guy was the guy who his entire presentation was 30 seconds and spoken like the micro machine guy.

Chris: oh yeah uh the guy from did yeah

mmmgelfling: was up there.

Chris: yeah

mmmgelfling: Done. I was like, awesome.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Every one of you guys need to take lessons from him.

Chris: Yeah. Yep. That's how I saw him afterwards. Like, did you breathe during that? He's like, yeah, not really. Hmm.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, that was nice.

Chris: Well, because the police chief just rambled on and had the busiest slides.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, yeah.

mmmgelfling: Yes, there were 98 pictures in one slide.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: in i sit i was all the way in the back, so I could barely see them. you know and i

Chris: But you've got eagle eyes.

mmmgelfling: I've got eagle eyes, and I was like, there are so many pictures on there, you cannot focus.

Chris: Hmm.

mmmgelfling: It's crazy.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Clearly, put his own slide deck together.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: Yeah. Well, and then you had Waterworks, who was like, you shouldn't work for the city of Salisbury, pretty much.

Chris: Wow. So, yeah.

mmmgelfling: Yeah. Yeah.

Chris: Yeah. It was. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: It is one of those things that annoys me though, because again, why is the on-duty fire department going there?

Chris: i don't disagree. i it's it, I, maybe with Nick being the new city administrator, we can kind of talk to him about some stuff like that. And it's like, you know, I get that you want to have this all city, but just, you know, like department heads and administrative staff. Sure. They should be in person. Anybody else. Hey, if you can zoom it on your phone or something while you're working great. If not, here's an email.

mmmgelfling: yeah well i mean it's it's always my my frustration is like we have a deployment model for ambulances and then we put all our animals in the same spot nope nope oh and it's also the worst spot in the city to be in like you can get yeah you can't get out of that place fast and get anywhere useful it's it's crazy

Chris: Mm-hmm.

Chris: Right. Yeah. yeah yeah Yeah. tight

Chris: Yeah. yeah There's no easy way to get anywhere from there.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah. i mean, it's it's not like, you know, Georgetown and Sussex that leads to everywhere.

mmmgelfling: yeah well and it's you know and it's it's i get the mayor's side of it but it's like man you get you have to realize our lot our job literally is about being where we're supposed to be you know and it it makes a difference we had a whole conversation about making a difference before this podcast and know ambulances need to be spread out and in strategic positions

Chris: Hmm.

Chris: Yeah.

Chris: It does. It literally does.

Chris: Yep.

Chris: What? Hmm.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, I know. i know. It's almost like Salisbury built their fire stations in poor positioning. ah Almost.

Chris: God, that's like, I was, was it yesterday? don't know. One of my many trips out to Atlantic this week. Um, on my way back, I was, you know, looking at that empty field that's between the on-ramp to the bypass and Hobbs road on the right, like in front of the solar farm.

mmmgelfling: Mm-hmm.

Chris: I was like, even just there, that little bit east would be a game changer.

mmmgelfling: Yeah. Oh, yeah. I talk about all the time. Like engine one, we have such a terrible um position for our district in the ambulance.

Chris: Yeah.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: There is like if you look at we have this crazy core of all the apartment buildings.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Which you have to keep something over there because of all the apartment buildings and then all of our other calls are out east.

Chris: Right.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Like if you had an ambulance out east or a unit out east, it would help immensely.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah.

Chris: Or I even thought like the median of 50. Like

Chris: put a station there.

mmmgelfling: I mean, that seems dangerous. I don't know.

Chris: Well, I mean, you leave some trees to either side to slow people down.

mmmgelfling: Yeah. Oh, yeah.

Chris: You put it, you put it on stilts.

mmmgelfling: oh hey

Chris: So you have to drive down and that, cause that gives you, that gives you the ramp to get head of speed up to the.

mmmgelfling: yeah ah

mmmgelfling: I've even, ive i really think just where the Rite Aid was, right there, just put a unit there, you'd be helping.

Chris: Yeah. yeah yeah yeah

mmmgelfling: yeah It's just, it's one day when I'm ruler of the world, I'm going to mandate, this is where ambulances need to be, this is where your engines need to be, but I'm just going to fix places. Yeah.

Chris: yeah I mean i don't know maybe I'm a simple man i you know I think back to like when I played SimCity and it would show you was like you know oh you put that there that's not working yeah

mmmgelfling: Right.

mmmgelfling: But it's like, the problem is, oh, well, in 1923, this was the right spot for a fire station.

Chris: yeah yeah

mmmgelfling: So we built, which, yeah, I get it. In 1923, that probably was the right station, place station. And in 1985, when they built station one, it probably, no, it couldn't have been right and even then.

Chris: no no but but and i get that you know you're at the time they didn't have the technology and stuff like that to like you know okay let's future forecast but now we have those things there aren't excuses to put stations in bad places.

mmmgelfling: You don't have political will.

Chris: Yeah. i Yeah.

mmmgelfling: you' not

Chris: Yeah. Right.

mmmgelfling: You have this crazy world where fire stations need to be billion-dollar fancy buildings.

Chris: Yeah. right

mmmgelfling: It's all of these crazy pressures that I just –

Chris: yeah yeah

mmmgelfling: i don't I don't care if you, if you came Chief came to me tomorrow and said, hey, we we're building a pole barn out on 50. You guys are going to be in there.

Chris: Yep.

mmmgelfling: It's going to have a bunk. It's going to have a TV. It's to have a kitchen. Go for it.

Chris: Yep.

mmmgelfling: Cool.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: You know, that' that's my job, you know.

Chris: Yeah. That's yeah.

mmmgelfling: I don't need a fancy station.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: a

Chris: Hmm.

mmmgelfling: I would like a shitters and showers though. yeah

Chris: Hmm.

mmmgelfling: But that's fine.

Chris: Combined.

mmmgelfling: you know But it's just that's how you save order.

Chris: ah i saved water.

mmmgelfling: It's just somebody has to pull that trigger. and So many things.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: you know

mmmgelfling: it's It's like the Salisbury Police Department. Why do you guys still operate into this building?

Chris: yeah yeah well remember there for a while they had those like little substations and then he did away with those well yeah

mmmgelfling: It's crazy.

mmmgelfling: Everywhere. yeah because well They didn't end up using any of them.

mmmgelfling: It's just like somebody has to fix this stuff. and I don't know who's ever going to fix it.

Chris: what was it i saw it was out in arizona maybe or something but the fire department was approached by this developer and they're like, Hey, you know, we've heard you want to have a firehouse eventually over here.

Chris: We're going to take two of our lots and give them to the fire department. We're going to build kind of like one of our single families, but it's just going to have bunks and a kitchen and all that and attached will be a big garage.

Chris: So there you go. So, and it was just, it just looked like a house with a giant garage next to it.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: And ran an engine and a medic.

mmmgelfling: My buddy's department in Utah, that's exactly what they're doing for their third station right now. It's a house, and they just put a pole barn garage on the back, and they run an engine automatic out of there.

Chris: yeah yeah right

mmmgelfling: and Actually, city of Wilmington has one where they built an apartment building, a 13-story apartment building, but the ground floor is a fire station. yeah so like the engines goes out the back you know it's separated from the building you know secured from the building i should say but it's it's it's in the building

Chris: yeah right yeah does every shift have its own apartment

mmmgelfling: but you go down florida like you go to you'll go to shopping centers and in the back of a shopping center is a fire station you know it's just

Chris: mm-hmm

Chris: yeah uh Howard County has something like that yeah it makes sense yeah right yeah yeah and like you said you know i can build three stations like that for the cost of one of these you know Taj Mahal's

mmmgelfling: it's a good way to make sense to build fire stations you know instagram

mmmgelfling: I mean, honestly, you probably you're almost paying nothing for the fire station. You know, if you do it right, you have all of these developers building buildings in Salisbury.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah.

Chris: Mm-hmm.

mmmgelfling: You could easily have gone to one of them and said, hey, you're building 3,800 homes on Snowhole Road. You going to put a fire station out here.

Chris: Yeah. Right.

mmmgelfling: Hey, you want to build all this crap out you know, 50? You're building fire station.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: Or at least you're leaving a lot open.

mmmgelfling: Sure.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: It's a something you got a mandate.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: And it's just... We just... like it's the same conversation. It's like the weirdest thing. i just had conversation with people at station one because we're building a new engine or sort of.

Chris: Yeah. No.

mmmgelfling: And I said, you know, it's every Tom, Dick and Harry should not be involved in building a fire engine. You know, why is if, if you're a manufacturer of fire engine, you come to me and say, these are the three models of fire engine.

Chris: Hmm.

mmmgelfling: Pick which one you want. Cool. Thanks.

Chris: Mm-hmm.

mmmgelfling: If, if right, right.

Chris: It's, what do you need it to do? You need it pump X gallons of water. You need it to hold X gallons of water. You want X...

mmmgelfling: I don't even think it should be that. I think it should be literally like, here are the three kinds of fire engines we got. Pick one. you know

Chris: Mm-hmm.

mmmgelfling: We are the experts in building this thing. We know the capabilities of it. We're going to make it the best we can. Pick one of the three. And when it comes to fire stations, it's like, why are people who are in a fire department who have no idea about you know budgeting and cost, why are they in charge of fire stations?

Chris: Mm-hmm.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: you know the fire station should be a gis person and a city engineer going this is what your building is done instead we have two fire stations in the city that were built by maniacs who had should not have been involved

Chris: Mm-hmm.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah.

Chris: Mm-hmm.

Chris: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

mmmgelfling: what's your qualification oh i ran a gros a gas station what does that have to do with anything

Chris: Uh, is that why there's a cutout for fuel pumps at the one station?

mmmgelfling: what

mmmgelfling: yeah But like, why is the fire chief expected to build a fire station? Right. Clearly, that doesn't work.

Chris: Yeah. You tap into the resources that are available.

mmmgelfling: Right.

Chris: and And I will say our current chief absolutely does that.

mmmgelfling: Sure, but the the fire chief who built Fire Station 16 should not have been involved in that process, right?

Chris: No.

mmmgelfling: and And it should have been the city. And the city says said, why do we need a $20 million dollars firehouse on the wrong side of the town? Why are you doing this? Instead, it was just like, blank check, go ahead and do things.

Chris: yeah yeah yeah

mmmgelfling: What?

mmmgelfling: It's so many things we do wrong in the fire services because we think we know everything.

Chris: yeah

Chris: what i mean but you also hit on it i mean look at where the police station's located

mmmgelfling: fair point yeah i i think of the two the two things in the city and i'm just going to pick on city salisbury because i i feel like now i i know them long enough that bothers me the most is you you don't have a fire station where people walk you don't have a police station where people walk that's crazy to me you know

Chris: Yeah, yeah.

Chris: Yep.

mmmgelfling: you know like I understand station one, we're out there. People don't really walk by our station. Some do, right?

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: ah But downtown, you don't have a fire station.

Chris: Mm-hmm. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: And when people walk around your town and they don't see a fire station, it says something about your town.

Chris: Yeah, it's, yeah, it's definitely weird.

mmmgelfling: Yeah. And it's, so yeah, it's weird.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Never going fix it.

Chris: No.

mmmgelfling: Not my career, that's for sure.

Chris: No. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: but that's That's the, that's the call I tell the guys all the time, like, you guys understand, like, decisions that are made now are going to affect you guys for 20 years.

Chris: Yeah. yeah

mmmgelfling: Yeah. It's like, the one guy was talking about something on Station 1, and he's like, oh, you know, tell me when you guys are ready for an upgrade. I'm like, bud, like, this is 20 years at the least.

Chris: yeah

mmmgelfling: They're not going to touch this building again.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: You know. The only building they're going to touch in the next 20 years is the one that's going to fall into the swamp in the next two years.

Chris: Now four years.

mmmgelfling: Yeah. We'll see.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Well, we've ranted enough. We've gone to the topics one.

Chris: Yeah. Well, well, actually I've got one more little rant.

mmmgelfling: More rants. Sweet.

Chris: Well, yeah, yeah. Just, don't know. Maybe you um might have an insight or something.

mmmgelfling: Oh, God.

Chris: So we've got a mouse.

mmmgelfling: Oh, no.

Chris: We had two, well, we had two mice. So there was one day my wife walks out to the garage and looks down and there's this like mound of dirt by like the steps that go into the garage and the drywall.

Chris: was like, that's weird. So how the, where the hell did that come from? So vacuum it up and there's a little i mean Tom and Jerry mouse little cutout on the wall.

Chris: I'm like, oh, must have a mouse. So I took and I yeah so put a can of that spray foam in there and filled it all up and anywhere I saw a gap and I ripped the steps out. I didn't see anything under that other than mouse poop and everything. I'm like, all right, vacuum all that up. Now they're sealed in like a day or two later, another little mouse hole.

Chris: It's like, okay.

mmmgelfling: You need snake.

Chris: So I got, well, so I got these traps that were supposed to like, The mouse's head goes in it and then it locks down on the back of it. And it was supposed to be more humane.

Chris: Didn't work. And I go, OK. So go back to the old wooden spring-loaded traps. After one night, got one. like All right, we got the mouse. We're good.

Chris: Throw it away.

mmmgelfling: It's like, we got one!

Chris: Yeah, pretty. Oh, yeah, pretty much. Yeah, like I was like, babe, take a picture of me with a mouse. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Oh, yeah.

Chris: yeah Yeah. yeah

Chris: Fast forward couple days later, we still see mouse poop. Like, huh, we'll bait the other trap. Well, he eats the trap clean. I'm like, oh, okay. Well, maybe something was wrong with it. So like, you know, take a stick so and barely touch the trigger. Crack! I'm like, okay, well, the trap clearly works.

Chris: Reset it, put peanut butter on it, come out. I go out to the garage and he's sitting on the container that our bird seat is in looking at me, mocking me.

mmmgelfling: You need a snake. You got a smart mouse now.

Chris: Well, of course, you know, my youngest, why, didn't why didn't you shoot it?

mmmgelfling: Rittlesnake, probably. Shoot it?

Chris: With what?

mmmgelfling: What the fuck are you all...

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: What are you, Wyatt Earp, walking around your house with a gun? What's...

Chris: yeah I was like, well, one, I would have to, you know, I was like, I, we have a bow and arrow. said, I'm a good shot, but I'm not that good. And she said, well, why did you run over and catch it?

Chris: No, it's not my job. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: that's Not even not a thats your job, but if you ever watched any movie where anybody tries to catch a mouse with their bare hands, it doesn't go well.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah. So we call our bug guy or exterminator and I send him the pictures of the hole and stuff. And he's like, ah, based on, know, I guess it was where I zoomed in on the picture something.

Chris: like that. That's a, that's a big hole. That's I think that's more of like a Norwegian rat. I'm like, what?

mmmgelfling: Pfft.

Chris: was like, I've seen this thing. He's tiny. He's, he could fit my hands small. So when he finally got here and looked at it, he's like oh yeah, that's a mouse. But so he put bait out. The bait's been out for over a week.

Chris: Still have a mouse.

mmmgelfling: that you guys You got a smart mouse ball.

Chris: He has cleaned the trap at least four times. At least. So I'm thinking we had two mice, Pinky and the Brain.

mmmgelfling: With

Chris: Pinky was a little idiot. We caught the first time, but now we're dealing with the brain. So I, yeah, I'm at my wits end. You know I'm like, do I post up out there in the dark with, you know, with my bow?

mmmgelfling: your bow?

Chris: Yeah. Oh gosh.

mmmgelfling: I'm telling you Rattlesnake. Who fix the problem?

Chris: r Rattlesnake. Yeah. Yeah. Well, so there's been a cat running around the neighborhood. I said, well, we'll just leave the garage door open part of the way. And then the cat will come in and eat the mouse or all the other mice will come in.

Chris: So.

mmmgelfling: Right. You need a rouse

Chris: or and yeah uh well one of the guys at work suggested a peregrine falcon i don't think the garage has enough room for it to get a good head of speed but okay yeah oh yeah yeah yeah yeah so i hear that yeah yeah all night wo wo that's what i want

mmmgelfling: It's got it yeah. Oh, no. Barn owl.

mmmgelfling: They're...

mmmgelfling: And then you hit the screaming when they screech.

Chris: yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah that sounds like that's

mmmgelfling: Yeah, that'd be fun. Just about time to to sleep.

Chris: yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah so uh what um yeah

mmmgelfling: I mean, I've been in the same situation and I have an answer for you. This is a surefire answer. You use olive oil in your house. Take a bottle.

mmmgelfling: It's got to have a narrower neck than the base, like most bottles do.

Chris: yeah all right

mmmgelfling: And it's got to be a pretty narrow base, though, or pretty narrow neck. And then you put olive oil in there. Coat the whole thing in olive oil, put a little olive oil on the bottom, put it on its side. Mouse will go and it won't get out.

Chris: Really? Huh.

mmmgelfling: Mm-hmm.

Chris: I might have to try that.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: Cause also i can't tell you the, i don't know, existential crisis I had putting these traps out.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, because killing the mouse.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Well, this is the worst part of the situation with the olive oil, is you're going to catch more than one mouse in that olive oil trap, and then you're going to have like five mice in a bottle of olive oil that you have to deal with.

Chris: Hmm. Hmm.

mmmgelfling: And you're going to have to make...

Chris: I'll drive out to, I'm going drive out to the woods. I cut the top off and I throw them out.

mmmgelfling: I would say, going to have to make the moral decision as to what you do, but that's what's going happen, because that's what to me

Chris: Yeah. Yeah. I, yeah, I just, yeah.

mmmgelfling: And I could not kill them. I wasn't...

Chris: That's like, I talked to a couple, yeah, again, the guys at work and he ah one guy, he was like, why don't you just stomp it? was like, oh my God.

mmmgelfling: Okay, psychopath.

Chris: yeah Yeah. It's like, I guess I have gotten weak in, you know, in my age, but I don't, you know, I don't want to kill it if I don't have to.

mmmgelfling: No, no, no.

Chris: If I could have caught it in my hand, I would have kept it in my hand and driven it out somewhere and let it go.

mmmgelfling: And I would have edited it and it would run nice. and a so

Chris: Yeah. Pick out a terrarium for it.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, no. right That's what happened to the that's what happened to the fives five that we caught. We caught five mice in the olive oil trap, and then we had these mice, and I was like, I can't kill these things.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: And my wife took them to one of her hippy-dippy friends who built a terrarium for these mice, and they lived, don't know how long they lived for, but they lived in a little terrarium.

Chris: Yeah.

Chris: Yeah. yeah yeah Yep.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: The only other thing is if we keep feeding this mouse with the trap, he's going to get so fat he can't get through his hole anymore.

mmmgelfling: I don't think that really works with mice.

Chris: No? um Okay. Hmm. Hmm. Hmm. Yeah. or maybe, maybe what I need to do where he's so smart, I need to do one of those Rube Goldberg machines.

Chris: Yeah. Like the game mouse trap. I need to set something like that up.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: with pulleys and marbles and yeah.

mmmgelfling: How about before we go full crazy, we just try the olive oil trap?

Chris: Okay. Maybe we will. God, the whole to go crazy though. does sound fun.

mmmgelfling: Go crazy.

Chris: ah

mmmgelfling: Don't mind I do.

Chris: I'll be sitting out there. Well, yeah, that was the other thing. When I was tearing apart the steps to see where this mouse may have been coming from, my wife, puts a camp chair in the garage and sits and watches me to see what happens. My oldest, who is home on college break, is she wanted to see what was going on, but she was, quote, afraid the mouse would leap out.

Chris: So she got in the car in the garage, locked the door and was looking out the window at me.

Chris: of i don't i I don't know if she thought this was like a honey badger that was in there. i don't know, but yeah.

mmmgelfling: My wife has these same things. like She's afraid of things that leap at her. And I'm like, when the cricket comes at you, what does it do?

mmmgelfling: Well, it gets on me.

Chris: yeah yeah yeah so okay I'll try that try the olive oil all right

mmmgelfling: And then... Yeah, yeah, yeah. Try the olive oil thing. the Try it and test it. yeah but Then, if that doesn't work, you have to go to Rattlesnake.

Chris: can I start with like a like a rat snake or a black snake constrictor yeah

mmmgelfling: i mean you can but then what's your step to get rid of the snake that's what the black snake's for

Chris: I'd have to get the rattlesnake too.

Chris: Then how do you get rid of the black snake?

mmmgelfling: then you gotta have a mongoose yeah then you have a pet mongoose yeah yeah see i had this all figured out

Chris: oh Ooh. That'd be fun. Yeah. yeah Yeah. Okay. Alright. Alright. yeah Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Alright. I'll run this by the wife.

Chris: Oh,

Chris: Well, you ready for topic one now that we've figured out

mmmgelfling: ah right

Chris: um yeah yeah i'll i'll report back next podcast yeah oh my god

mmmgelfling: Let us know how the ah this mouse situation resolves itself. Or if you end up in the hospital because of mouse trap related injury, you know we're all going to want to know.

Chris: yes oh yes oh yeah yeah i'll take pictures somebody will take pictures yeah topic one

mmmgelfling: Somebody. oh All right. Topic one. Well, I figure it's early 2026. I think we should probably look at...

mmmgelfling: The video games coming out in 2026. See what we might be excited about. I know a couple of them I'm excited for. I think most of these you're going be excited for.

mmmgelfling: So in the remake news or franchise news, we have Onimusha Way of the Sword.

Chris: Yeah.

Chris: Yeah.

Chris: need to show you the sword.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: Is that I'm trying to think if that's the one i saw and was like, honey, move away the sword.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: Hey, look, there it is.

mmmgelfling: from Capcom.

Chris: Oh, yeah, i I am a little interested in that.

mmmgelfling: I figured you would definitely be into that one.

Chris: Yeah,

mmmgelfling: um Then we have, well, if it happens, GTA 6.

Chris: I don't see that coming out till 27.

mmmgelfling: I kind of feel the same way.

Chris: If then. but

mmmgelfling: i mean, they're still making hands over fists of money 6K5, and yeah.

Chris: Oh, yeah.

mmmgelfling: It's a game I totally don't care about.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: Yeah, yeah. It's one of those I might play it like if it comes to you free for Plus or whatever. but

mmmgelfling: Yeah, that's not on on my list. of I don't care.

Chris: yeah

mmmgelfling: There's a Marvel Wolverine game coming out just for p s five

Chris: um have you Have you seen anything about that?

mmmgelfling: No, but i so I mean, the cover picture is, I mean, is, you know, yellow and brown suit.

Chris: Yeah, it looks amazing. It's um the same studio that did the Spider-Man games for Sony. And it, yeah, it's it's bloody, brutal.

Chris: i mean, yeah, it it definitely looks like it's capturing Wolverine.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, that's cool.

Chris: and Like, there's even one, like, the shot where he's all all bloodied up and cut up, and you can literally watch him heal while he's standing there, so.

mmmgelfling: That is what you want in life.

Chris: Yeah, yeah, um yeah.

mmmgelfling: um Niowa 3? Niowa?

Chris: Neo3.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: i I haven't pre-ordered it, but yeah, that's probably going to be a day or week one for me.

mmmgelfling: Oh.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Super excited about it.

Chris: Oh yeah, yeah. The Neo games, but it's it's the hack and slash action. It's a Souls-like, but it's not the as tedious.

Chris: I think the loot drops from Borderlands with the action of Ninja Gaiden. yeah with like a crazy yeah japanese somewhat in so history or mythological inspired game yeah pragmata

mmmgelfling: That's fun.

mmmgelfling: That's fun. Pragmata?

mmmgelfling: It's a Capcom game.

Chris: oh that's the that's the i don't know if he's like a spaceman or what but he's got the little android girl with him i haven't seen a lot of it i mean i'm

mmmgelfling: Like robots. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Chris: um I'm following it to see how it turns out. But yeah, I don't know a ton about it.

mmmgelfling: probably a game I'll see if it comes on that game pass.

Chris: So. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: 007 First Light.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: I'm not sure I care.

Chris: Yeah. i I don't know. I'm trying to think. I just saw who they announced. The. who's playing double O in it.

Chris: ah

Chris: Yeah. Who's it? Where the hell is it?

mmmgelfling: Is it Pierce Brosnan?

Chris: I'm trying

mmmgelfling: No.

Chris: No, Actor. Actor. There we go. Oh, wait. Never mind. This is different. Patrick Gibson, known for Dexter, Original Sin, Shadow and Bone. Okay.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, it kind of looks like a Hitman-ish game to me.

Chris: Okay. Yeah. yeah oh that's what it was the enemy in it is lenny kravitz yeah oh i hope so one could hope he probably has like a rider in his thing like yeah i've got to have full frontal and everything i'm in

mmmgelfling: Oh. We're

mmmgelfling: going to see his dong.

mmmgelfling: All right. We can hope.

mmmgelfling: yeah I know you're going to play this game, Lego Batman Legacy the Dark Knight.

Chris: yes have you it's like they took the arkham games and made them into lego batman so yeah

mmmgelfling: Yeah, this is definitely going to be...

Chris: oh yeah

mmmgelfling: Like I said, looking at this list, there are games I'm saying, he's going to play this, going play this. ah This I might be interested in, depending how it looks. Dragon Quest V227 Reimagined.

Chris: yeah yeah that's uh is that where it's no not dragon quest one yeah i know it's a squeenix but reimagine there it is

mmmgelfling: Yeah. It's the Square Enix game. Yeah.

Chris: I just want a screenshot. Yes. Yeah, I i saw that. i mean Some of the Dragon Quest games are a ton of fun. Some of them are a little weird. But, I mean, it's got the Akiri Toriyama art style. And, yeah.

Chris: Yeah. You know when you're playing a Dragon Quest game.

mmmgelfling: You're right.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Resident Evil 9 Requiem.

Chris: Yeah, probably not.

mmmgelfling: You're not going to play that game? blue

Chris: I saw some stuff with it and that looks a little spookier than some of the other ones. I don't know. Maybe... i mean, i did play 7. haven't played 8 yet. Because 8 had, like, werewolves and vampires. I don't know.

mmmgelfling: I haven't played a Resident Evil game since probably Resident Evil 3.

Chris: You didn't play 4?

mmmgelfling: No? No?

Chris: The over-the-shoulder with Leon? Hmm. Hmm.

mmmgelfling: ah Here's a game I do not care about at all. Yakuza 3 Kiwama. Kiwami?

Chris: I tried the Like a Dragon, one of them. And yeah, I mean, it's it's kind of turn-based RPG, but it's weird. it's Yeah, yeah.

mmmgelfling: Not on my list.

Chris: Yakuza is just a weird game.

mmmgelfling: Yeah. This one is on my list. This is probably the number one on my list for...

Chris: Ooh.

mmmgelfling: 2026? There's ah supposed to be a new Fable game.

Chris: Do you think it'll come out this year?

mmmgelfling: I don't know.

Chris: Yeah, see, because we haven't heard much about it. I mean, maybe they're going to do something at, was it, doesn't Microsoft have a big thing in like late February, early March?

mmmgelfling: I know.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, so...

Chris: So maybe if that.

mmmgelfling: I mean, if it's coming out, that's that's the game for me. I mean, I'm very excited about a Fable game.

Chris: Yeah.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: And even my wife likes Fable.

Chris: Ooh, yeah. See, I've never played a Fable, so.

mmmgelfling: Fable's fun.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: She got mad at me because I got married in Fable.

Chris: You got to do it.

mmmgelfling: I can't have achievements.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: um i've never heard this game saros uh it's developed by house mark it's a sunny and interactive game

Chris: Sarah's.

mmmgelfling: and

Chris: Oh, it's like, um, Returnal or one of those, I think. Yeah. It doesn't seem like something up. It's one of those like, almost like a Twitch shooter kind of. Yeah.

Chris: Yeah. now

mmmgelfling: phantom blade zero

Chris: yes 100 yep yeah

mmmgelfling: It's definitely on your list of games. well I'll make sure don't close the wrong thing here.

mmmgelfling: You know, I'll end up closing the podcast.

Chris: oh no no no really yeah yeah i have to tell her about that

mmmgelfling: And then we got, let's see, a new Fire Emblem game. It's your wife's favorite, right? Yeah.

mmmgelfling: so ah You know, it's funny. i was talking to my brother about like the Switch. like I want games like that on the Switch. I don't want Legend of what hell is the Zelda game that everybody loves on the Switch?

Chris: yeah

Chris: Oh, Breath of the Wild.

mmmgelfling: but well I don't want that. I want games like that that are contained in something like a little nicer.

Chris: Yeah.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: That's what I want on my Switch, but

Chris: Well, I didn't like Breath of the Wild because of the stupid weapon degradation.

mmmgelfling: when they do this.

mmmgelfling: it's crazy. It's crazy.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, because but they're doing a supposedly Core Keeper 2, which is a game I'm actually interested in, might be dropping in 2026, and it might be coming to the Switch 2, which might be a reason for me to get the Switch 2.

Chris: Okay.

Chris: Ooh.

mmmgelfling: Oh,

Chris: Yeah. Well, I've heard if you're going to get a switch too, you should probably do it soon.

mmmgelfling: really?

Chris: Yeah, because they're talking about price increases just because of all the increasing costs of RAM and things.

mmmgelfling: oh god um monster hunter stories 3 i don't care about my hunter i tried it i just got more annoyed as the game went on um

Chris: Yeah. Hmm.

Chris: Nah. Yeah. Yeah.

Chris: Yeah. yeah

mmmgelfling: and i don't i'd stay i wasn't for me uh control 2 a sequel to a game i've never heard of

Chris: yeah

Chris: yeah that's i know a lot of people like control that's not really me it's like a third person shooter kind of game i think no control is that control two

mmmgelfling: I mean, you know.

mmmgelfling: don't know. I've never heard of control. I can say.

Chris: Yeah, it's like a third-person shooter kind of can interact with the environment with some kind of telekinesis stuff.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Super Meat Boy 3D coming out.

Chris: They're still making Super Meat Boy? Wow.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, apparently. Oh, there's going to be Slay the Spire 2. I like Slay the Spire.

Chris: Oh, yeah.

mmmgelfling: That's a fun game.

Chris: Yeah, I know. That's one of your games.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, that's a good game.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: a

mmmgelfling: The Blood of Daywalker? Dawnwalker. I've heard of that. I

Chris: Oh, I think that's a ah vampire game.

mmmgelfling: can't imagine.

Chris: And it's you've got. How do you get like 48 hours to do something or something? I don't know. There's like a ah literal clock in there that you have.

Chris: To get stuff done by or something. I don't know. Yeah. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Uh, rubs, Bubsy 4D, don't know what that is

Chris: No, no.

mmmgelfling: Uh, there's a new Tomb Raider apparently, Legacy of Atlantis. I gotta say, I've never been a huge Tomb Raider fan.

Chris: I never really played the originals, but the last few I played, they were fun. i mean, it was, yeah.

mmmgelfling: I went through the last... but When they remade it that one.

Chris: Was that the legacy of the Tomb Raider or whatever?

mmmgelfling: and think it was Legacy of the Timur. It was fine.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: It just didn't...

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: It wasn't my kind of game, so it didn't hook me.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: And i my you again it's not me yucking. It's just not for me.

Chris: Yeah, yeah, I mean, everybody's got their games.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, yeah. um Star Wars Galactic Racer?

Chris: I mean, I'll try it if it's free or so. I'm not a big racing person, so yeah.

mmmgelfling: no.

Chris: Yeah, that's not the Star Wars I want.

mmmgelfling: that was

Chris: I want i won't either, yeah the next in the Fallen Order or, yeah, Fate of the Old Republic.

mmmgelfling: No.

mmmgelfling: Here's one I've not heard about. Free Animal?

Chris: Hmm. No, never heard of that.

mmmgelfling: It's a co-op horror adventure?

Chris: Oh, yeah, no.

mmmgelfling: no

Chris: No, no, no. Isn't there rumors that KOTOR remakes coming out this year?

mmmgelfling: I have seen things about Kotor. have not seen enough.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: I don't think anything's, no dates or facts are coming out about it.

Chris: Yeah.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Let's see what other games. Oh, Dune Awakening is supposed to go out of things. And...

Chris: hmm

mmmgelfling: I'll try to see if there's anything I missed. Halo campaign involved is just coming a PS5 version of Halo.

Chris: oh yeah i tried i played the

mmmgelfling: Oh, that's right. Marathon. Supposedly Bungie's returning to Marathon.

Chris: Yeah, I'm well past the NDA now. I played the closed alpha and one of the betas.

Chris: Extraction shooters is just not my bag. Hmm.

mmmgelfling: Yeah. Yeah. I feel like it's a genre people like, but...

Chris: there Yeah. Yeah, yeah. I mean, I i tried Ark Raiders for the free weekend and just not me.

mmmgelfling: Yeah. That's kind of how I felt about it, looking at it.

Chris: yeah yeah yeah crimson desert oh yeah it's a um the same people who made yeah black desert yep the third one's going to be emerald desert

mmmgelfling: I was like, eh, it's fine. um And Crimson Desert? It's an open-world RPG. There's a black desert.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: that There you go. ah That is pretty much the big list. I don't see...

Chris: yeah yeah

mmmgelfling: Like I said, Fable was definitely on my list.

mmmgelfling: I'm sure there's going to other games that pop out that I'm going to be like, oh, that was that was the surprising one.

Chris: Yeah, that's in a couple weeks.

mmmgelfling: Oh, Covane 2 is supposed come out. Yeah.

Chris: I'll play it eventually. And

mmmgelfling: Uh, let's try see there's anything.

Chris: and I mean, we know that there will be another Call of Duty.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, oh yeah, yeah.

Chris: There will be you know the FIFA, Madden, all that stuff this year.

mmmgelfling: You're

Chris: So I'm just, yeah.

mmmgelfling: right. Uh, sorry, sorry, sorry, talked about like a Batman. Halloween the game.

Chris: nope no no no i'm dying yeah i enjoy you know not being terrified of everything

mmmgelfling: No.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, I've pretty much covered the big ones. Oh, Hell Let Loose Vietnam might come out this year.

Chris: yeah okay you missed ghetto zombies graffiti squad

mmmgelfling: It's fine.

mmmgelfling: I did miss that somehow.

Chris: oh my gosh okay

mmmgelfling: Marvel 1943 Rise of Hydra?

Chris: i don't see it coming out i just don't yeah it's uh i mean we haven't um really seen anything since that one cut scene kind of trailer we saw and that's about it yeah

mmmgelfling: Yeah, Star Wars, Stray the Republic is still just listed as some time. Same as Total War, Warhammer 40k.

Chris: Hmm.

mmmgelfling: on the list of some time.

Chris: Yeah. There's the rumors that Fallout 3 or New Vegas remake will drop at the end of the Fallout TV show.

mmmgelfling: Hmm.

mmmgelfling: They, uh...

Chris: Hmm.

mmmgelfling: I feel like they really missed the window on that.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, I feel like last year was the time to do that, and that was a mistake.

Chris: Mm-hmm.

mmmgelfling: Oh, Atomic Heart 2 has been announced, but but not the game that like was providing information to the Russians or something, and nobody was supposed to play it.

Chris: I think it was. was Yeah, sounds similar. Or, you know, like ah that it might have happened. um

mmmgelfling: Hex. I'm completely out of

Chris: oh I don't know if that'll come out.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: Because Ubisoft sent a lot of turmoil or up ups and downs.

mmmgelfling: Elder Scrolls 6 is...

Chris: That's never coming out.

mmmgelfling: That's never coming out, so...

Chris: Yeah. Diablo 4, Lord of Hatred.

mmmgelfling: Oh, that's an expansion that will be out, yeah. It comes out in...

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: I've already bought it.

Chris: Oh, OK. Cool.

mmmgelfling: it comes out in April, I think.

Chris: OK.

mmmgelfling: Yeah. There was a sale where if you bought one, you got the other two other ones, so... I like Devo. It's fine.

Chris: I tried Diablo. I just couldn't. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: It's a... You have to either be into Diablo, look for the lore, or just be like, oh, I could play this for half an hour and not think about things.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: you

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Well, those are the games of 2026 that we're looking forward to. Mostly Fable for me.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: but would say Fable.

Chris: There's some game coming out called Screamer.

mmmgelfling: Hmm.

Chris: what? Oh, Star Wars Zero Company is allegedly coming out this year. You take the role of Hawks, a disgraced Republic officer who now leads in Eponimus Zero Company, a ragtag bunch of extremely dubious characters who have to stop a growing threat during the Clone Wars.

Chris: Hmm. Hmm. Hmm. team is made up of astromechs, Jedi, and others. We'll see.

Chris: yeah i Yeah, there's nothing other than Neo 3 that I'm like i amm definitely yeah getting as soon as it comes out this year.

mmmgelfling: Right.

Chris: But we'll see what Destiny does.

mmmgelfling: The game that ended, but still hasn't ended.

Chris: Yeah, but I tell you what. this Their collab this past season with Star Wars has just been phenomenal. So, yeah.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, it's awesome.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Well, folks, enjoy the games that come out.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Hopefully it's a good year for indie games that we just didn't see coming. That's you know that's kind of been the last couple years for me.

Chris: yeah Yeah, it's... Yeah, with all this push on AAA and how long it takes them to get things out. Yeah, I mean, a good indie game or even, i mean, a single A or a double A game is great.

Chris: You know, it can be a great filler.

mmmgelfling: Mm-hmm.

Chris: And I think people have to get over themselves and not every game has to be a 9 or a 10 out of 10.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, we talk about that many times.

Chris: Yeah, yeah.

mmmgelfling: Well, we move on to topic two.

Chris: So. topic two. And it's funny, you know, my rant earlier, i didn't realize, kind of leads into this. It's because you were talking about, yes, no.

mmmgelfling: the top three movies about mice.

Chris: Um, well you talked about, you know, get the snake and then you get the other snake and then eventually you get the, you know, mongoose and that's your pet, you I would say the two main pets that people have are cats and dogs.

mmmgelfling: It's fair.

Chris: Why, why didn't we expand animal husbandry to incorporate other animals more, know, Like what kind of other animals? I mean, yeah, there are the people that have the ferrets and the weirdos that have the birds that live 8,000 years. um I mean, fish are just boring.

Chris: But yeah, I mean, like a mongoose running around your house or like, you know, if you've got a pool, have an otter out back. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: That is fair.

Chris: But yeah.

mmmgelfling: Why don't we have otters as pets?

mmmgelfling: You know, you always see people who have like raccoons as pets.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: You know, you're always like, they do get fat.

Chris: Those little jokers get fat.

mmmgelfling: But is it, and you always hear like the excuse like, oh, only certain animals can be domesticated. Fucking raccoons look pretty happy in them houses.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: ah

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: They're pretty happy not be living in the trash cans.

Chris: Yeah. And I got news for you. If you come across a wild dog, it's going to screw you up.

mmmgelfling: Oh, yeah.

Chris: Or yeah.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: Or just walk down the street and grab a feral cat.

mmmgelfling: yeah Yeah.

Chris: You know, it's, Yeah, there's, yeah, yeah.

mmmgelfling: No, no, no.

mmmgelfling: Yeah. Well, I mean, some people do have snakes as pets.

Chris: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

mmmgelfling: not sure the snake sees themselves as pets, but, you know.

Chris: Yeah, yeah, yeah. God, you remember Inslee had like a couple of them that would just go around his house?

mmmgelfling: Yeah. No thanks.

Chris: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. yeah Or remember that one pet shop in Salisbury that the one boa got loose and it was just like up in the ceiling and they couldn't get it

mmmgelfling: No.

mmmgelfling: I'm out.

Chris: yeah yeah and the thing is i mean they're like yeah i guess technically it's a open you know it's a common ceiling so can you imagine it like you're like three shops down and this giant bella drops on you ah yeah yeah

mmmgelfling: Yeah, yeah. mean, I don't mind snakes. It's just, it's not a pet. But my cousin, she's really into having snakes as pets, so, you know, again, I don't want to yuck anybody's yum, but...

Chris: yeah yeah we would find the snake nest, for lack of a better term, and grab the black rat snake eggs and put them in a terrarium, yeah keep them warm and everything, and then until they got to about, I don't know, 18 inches, keep them as pets.

Chris: And then let them loose out in the woods.

mmmgelfling: That's crazy.

Chris: Yeah, yeah. Well, it's really cool, though, because when they're first, the at least the rat snakes, when they're first born, they're not black. They're like this diamond pattern. So yeah.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: That's fun.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: um I get to see foxes all the time. Do those kind of pets?

Chris: Yeah. I mean, they seem, they seem nice.

Chris: i think. of

mmmgelfling: They seem really high strung.

Chris: Well, yeah. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: I'm not sure that they're pet material.

Chris: But

Chris: I don't know.

mmmgelfling: I think a raccoon is like, that's where you want to have a pet.

Chris: there yeah Yeah. Yeah. Cause they have the people hands.

mmmgelfling: They got people hands.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah. Train it to go, you know, grab something for you.

mmmgelfling: And if you need somebody to rob a bank, they've already got their mask.

Chris: Exactly. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Yeah. I mean, there are the maniacs of quote-unquote bears as pets.

Chris: Yeah.

Chris: No, no, no, no.

mmmgelfling: what Yeah.

Chris: Yeah. I think when the animal is bigger than you, that's probably when you need to draw the line.

mmmgelfling: Yeah. Right. I'm not having a pet that I can't wrestle.

Chris: Yeah.

Chris: Right. Yeah. that's why you don't have a chimpanzee because they have freakish strength and yeah.

mmmgelfling: And they go right for the nuts.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, they don't have Japanese.

Chris: Yeah. Which you talk about bears. Have you seen the pictures of the bears with alopecia?

mmmgelfling: Yes.

Chris: Oh my God.

mmmgelfling: Crazy. Terrifying.

Chris: That's that is nightmare fuel there, bud.

mmmgelfling: Yeah. yeah

Chris: God. Yeah. Hmm.

mmmgelfling: Yeah. The last thing you ever want your life, and the last thing you will see in that moment, is a bald bear.

Chris: ah bald-headed bear of such and such mountain yeah yeah yeah or it's like the people that have like you know like the tiger king and all that i mean yeah that's a large animal that can easily eat you

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Not a fan.

mmmgelfling: Well, it's like the maniacs have wolves in their houses. Like... They're

Chris: yeah yeah because people don't understand wolves are big yeah yeah

mmmgelfling: huge! They are ginormous animals. They are not dogs.

Chris: no no yeah yeah

mmmgelfling: a They are crazy big animals. Uh-uh. And like, just, again, you can't wrestle that dog.

mmmgelfling: You can't wrestle that wolf.

Chris: now no no no well you can you're gonna lose yeah yeah yeah maybe that should be the rule like if you can't like a you know if it's less than a two to one ratio of how many of that animal

mmmgelfling: You're going to lose, yeah. Yeah. and

Chris: you can take on at one time you shouldn't you one to one you're kind of pushing it because that's don't know that's thread in the needle but if it was like you know like two otters i could probably take two otters but do they think you get big though yeah oh yeah yeah yeah but the sea otters they just lay on their back and know they're fumble guys really

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Oh, I could take two otters easy. I could turn two otters into nunchucks and beat up other otters. got it

mmmgelfling: They get big. Like, the big sea otters are real big. But the river otter? Oh, yeah. I can take the little river otters.

mmmgelfling: Very rapey, apparently.

Chris: Hmm.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: Hmm. Hmm.

mmmgelfling: Animal Kingdom's not really into consent.

Chris: No, it's not.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: I don't want any bird in my house, ever.

Chris: Yeah. Friends of ours have a bird.

mmmgelfling: don't really want...

Chris: It's ah a little, don't know, like a gray, not a gray parrot, but something like that. And it's, we were over there around the holidays and like they hadn't clipped its wings lately.

Chris: And all of a sudden just into the room. I was like, Oh God, bird. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: something Something primordial in me that just wants to fight birds.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah. don't know if it's because of the eyes, they have those just dead.

mmmgelfling: It's

Chris: It's like the jaws thing.

mmmgelfling: like the doll's eyes.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: yeah

mmmgelfling: na Yeah. like Like fish are just decoration. They're not pets.

Chris: Yeah. yeah yeah

mmmgelfling: That's just like, oh, that is a pretty cool wall decoration.

Chris: yeah yeah but Yeah. That's a, yeah. It's a living decoration. That's a good way to put that.

mmmgelfling: Yeah. Yeah.

Chris: Yeah. and like a tortoise or something like that i mean it's not like you're gonna play fetch or really yeah

mmmgelfling: Oh, my wife wants a tortoise bed. She's always one of them. No, she loves turtles. That's her thing.

Chris: yeah so i've seen the thing where people who have tortoises put them in the freezer for the winter yeah they put them in the freezer for hibernation and then yeah

mmmgelfling: What? Huh.

Chris: Yeah, I was like, de do you just let them slowly come to room temperature? Do you pop them in the microwave? do

mmmgelfling: Well, you're going to have like a a will for your tortoise. That thing's going to outlive you a good amount.

Chris: Oh, yeah, yeah. That's something that, like, your great, great grandkids are going to deal with.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, like that's a commitment. I'm not into that.

mmmgelfling: I thought lost your

Chris: Placing a tortoise in a regular freezer is dangerous and will kill it. But a dedicated food safe refrigerator can be used for artificial hibernation called brumation for specific naturally hibernating species requiring precise temperature control, ideally 39 to 45 degrees Fahrenheit, in an insulated box with ventilation and regular checks to prevent dehydration and freezing.

Chris: It's a complex process like best left to the experienced owners as improper temperatures, insufficient ventilation, or species unsuitability can lead to severe illness or death.

mmmgelfling: That's fun facts.

Chris: Freezer equals death. A freezer goes below freezing zero degrees Celsius, which is lethal for a tortoise, causing freezing and tissue necrosis.

mmmgelfling: yeah

mmmgelfling: So don't do that part.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Sounds like don't do any of it unless you know which time you're doing, honestly.

Chris: Yeah.

Chris: Contact resources like the Royal Veterinary College or the Tortoise Trust for detailed safe instructions. Oh my gosh, there's a picture that somebody has 12 tortoises in a refrigerator.

mmmgelfling: a lot of tortoises.

Chris: That is Tortai.

mmmgelfling: Tortoises. i had a I had iguanas as a kid.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: I really liked iguanas.

Chris: Yeah. We had, we're the little guys, Annals.

mmmgelfling: I don't

Chris: The little, like, we the North, or oh, we would catch skinks too all the time, but yeah.

mmmgelfling: I had skinks.

mmmgelfling: Yeah. I mean, little lizards are kind of not pretty old. Again, just like decoration.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: But the iguanas, man. My iguana is like so much older all the time.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Damn.

Chris: ah headache I had a hamster that would um i would put my hat on backwards, and he would sit on my head and just look out the front.

mmmgelfling: I have the worst hamster story of all time.

Chris: Oh, no.

mmmgelfling: by We had hamsters when I was a kid.

Chris: no.

mmmgelfling: And my mother got bit by the hamster on her finger. And she flung it because it bit her. Broke its little neck.

Chris: Oh, no.

Chris: um

mmmgelfling: Yeah. yeah To be fair, the dumb bastard bit her.

Chris: Aw.

mmmgelfling: So, you know, don't bite something that's 300 times your size, hamster.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: It's like people are like, yeah, didn't you worry about it like going to the bathroom on your head? I was like, no, he knew not to. That's that's where his little spot was. we were just chill little bros.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, you know.

Chris: Me and, yeah, his name was Snuggle Guts.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: See, there's a lot of pets that people have that, you know, which we we we don't push the limits like polar bears.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah.

Chris: god Oh, God. Oh, no.

mmmgelfling: They're like, you know, you know, that it's important.

Chris: They're left-handed.

mmmgelfling: But it's just like maniacs who have, you know, venomous snakes in their house like you crazy.

Chris: Yeah.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah. Well, it's like that you talk about the fish. People have like lionfish and you know jellyfish and things like that. It's like, no.

Chris: No.

mmmgelfling: You gotta put your hand in the damn cage and get bit by them. But like, you know, i guess that's fair.

Chris: You got to clean it every now and again.

mmmgelfling: didn't think about that.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah. That's why you have to hire some fool to come over. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: in there and scoop that jellyfish out.

Chris: Yeah.

mmmgelfling: The venomous snake thing I'm not into. Like that's just, that's levels of risk beyond stupidity to me.

Chris: Yeah.

Chris: yeah. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: You know, and you can say all you want.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: That snake's going to bite you.

Chris: mean, to be fair,

mmmgelfling: He's just looking for an excuse.

Chris: i mean

mmmgelfling: That's

Chris: to be fair cats are the same you know cats are just looking for you to you know lull you into a sense of confidence and then caca yeah yeah yeah

mmmgelfling: why there's no cats in my house.

mmmgelfling: Dogs have loyalty and compassion.

Chris: yeah

mmmgelfling: Cats are evil little monsters.

Chris: yeah yeah they have servants

mmmgelfling: They're little servants and they have they shit in your house to prove to you knew that you're their servant.

Chris: yeah right yeah yeah yeahp i' like ah clean that up peasant

mmmgelfling: Yeah.

Chris: A dog craps in a house and it looks at you like, I am so sorry.

mmmgelfling: I did look into...

Chris: I have ruined everything.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, yeah. I did look into having a raccoon, but apparently it's illegal in the state of Delaware.

Chris: Oh, pish posh.

mmmgelfling: Pish posh.

Chris: Yeah, says who? Yeah, is there the raccoon police that come around?

mmmgelfling: Well, sort of. i mean, don't know.

Chris: How would you, where would you get a raccoon?

mmmgelfling: Let's go out of the woods and get a raccoon, I guess.

Chris: I don't know. yeah but then you gotta to worry about like fleas and stuff yeah oh yeah yeah yeah america's only marsupial yeah yeah yeah they do they do yeah yeah

mmmgelfling: They got a baby. way We didn't get a possum.

mmmgelfling: Possums eat ticks and stuff. They're creepy looking. They're creepy looking. They hiss. Boy, do they hiss.

mmmgelfling: Get a skunk. Yeah, yeah.

Chris: yeah it have it have to be descended though yep

mmmgelfling: They're kind of cute.

Chris: They are, yeah, yeah, once you get up to them. The Salisbury Zoo has a descended skunk that they take around.

mmmgelfling: Kinda cute.

Chris: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.

mmmgelfling: I just want a raccoon.

Chris: Yeah, yeah, now you mention, yeah, yeah, that's, that could be fun.

mmmgelfling: Yeah. So somebody get on domesticating raccoons and making it legal.

Chris: Yeah.

Chris: Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's got it, I mean, it's obviously, where is it legal? Oh my God. The first thing it was, cause my phone's always listening.

Chris: the I say, where is it legal to own a raccoon? Next is to own an otter. The third is to own a Fox. Where is it legal? Yeah. Oh yeah. Let's use my location. states mentioned as potentially allowing them or Wyoming, Alaska, California, oh, California and Pennsylvania have strict bans.

mmmgelfling: yeah

Chris: m Typically you need a permit from fish and wildlife.

Chris: ah Maryland requires a permit from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

mmmgelfling: There you go.

Chris: Hey, I can get a raccoon.

mmmgelfling: You get a raccoon. You have plenty of DNR cops.

Chris: This says Delaware you can.

mmmgelfling: I looked into it and said it was illegal. I maybe me need a permit.

mmmgelfling: I think because you can get in trouble if you like foster raccoon in Delaware. can

Chris: pet raccoon in Delaware. They're classified as a rabies vector species.

Chris: If you're considering one.

mmmgelfling: It's illegal to own.

Chris: Oh, you know, yeah if you have a permit. Yeah, yeah, yeah, there you go.

mmmgelfling: Oh, okay.

Chris: Get your raccoon permit.

mmmgelfling: Gotta go raccoon court.

Chris: Sarah, guess what we're doing this weekend.

Chris: imagine if you just came home with a raccoon?

mmmgelfling: yeah oh Everybody would love it. They're so cute.

Chris: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm sure your wife would be. Yeah, I'm sure the dogs would love it.

mmmgelfling: The dogs would freak out.

mmmgelfling: That's $25 to get a raccoon permit in Delaware.

Chris: Oh my God, that's nothing.

mmmgelfling: That's nothing.

Chris: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Go out for a little stroll, grab lunch, grab a permit.

mmmgelfling: wreck okay my get it right good Sounds like a day.

Chris: and a raccoon yeah yeah yeah i wonder if it's one that's like you get the permit and it's like here here's you know here's your starter raccoon yeah yeah yeah

mmmgelfling: i doubt that.

Chris: guess i'm gonna try to figure out how gonna take care of this mouse i'm try my olive gonna try the olive oil yeah so uh but uh Yeah, folks, ah take care.

mmmgelfling: Yeah, well. It's a good trick.

Chris: Stay warm. Hopefully it doesn't snow.

mmmgelfling: Yes. Stay off the roads if you can.

Chris: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, watch out for the brine.

mmmgelfling: If it does so.

Chris: Yep.

mmmgelfling: Watch out the brine.

Chris: Yes. Yep. And we'll see you next time.

mmmgelfling: Yep. We'll have an update on the on the mice.

Chris: Yes, I will have an update on Mouseageddon 2026. Take care, take care folks
