Introduction and Weather Talk

00:00:05
Chris
Welcome back to another episode of the Mythic Giraffe Podcast. I'm Chris.
00:00:09
tauntaunstink
And I am a frozen wasteland that used to be known as on
00:00:14
Chris
Yeah, you guys haven't gotten above freezing, have you?
00:00:17
tauntaunstink
Ron. Well, it was like 34 a couple days ago. And
00:00:20
Chris
Wow.
00:00:24
tauntaunstink
supposed to get 50 today. So I might actually melt some of this snow.
00:00:28
Chris
Yeah. Yeah, I saw that, but then this morning everything is frosted over outside my house, so I don't know.
00:00:37
tauntaunstink
Oh, ah is your house frosted over? Oh, do you have a little bit of frost in your yard? Oh, I am so sympathetic to your plight.

Humor and Holiday Decor

00:00:47
tauntaunstink
I got a wife yelling at me to put a ladder on a frozen sheet of ice to so I can decorate her skeleton for her.
00:00:47
Chris
Yeah.
00:00:54
Chris
Yeah.
00:00:54
tauntaunstink
And know I'm not doing it.
00:00:56
Chris
You need a drone.
00:00:59
tauntaunstink
Oh, please don't tell. No. Let's not have that.

Super Bowl Ads and Halftime Show

00:01:04
tauntaunstink
I do not want that in my... wife's ear because then she'll get one yeah I just want to be able to like park on my street again be able to take my trash cans out without like a sled dog expedition
00:01:10
Chris
yeah
00:01:21
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:01:24
tauntaunstink
rough it's been I need a tauntaun which by the way tangent of tauntauns that was the only Super Bowl ad that was any good this year
00:01:24
Chris
you need You need a taunt on. time
00:01:36
Chris
Yeah, ah it wasn't really a great year for Super Bowl ads.
00:01:40
tauntaunstink
Oh, it was...
00:01:41
Chris
None really stuck out my mind. Yeah.
00:01:43
tauntaunstink
None were good, and most of them just relied on, oh here's a random celebrity in this commercial. Isn't that cool?
00:01:49
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:01:50
tauntaunstink
It's like, no, they they're not funny, and they're not interesting.
00:01:53
Chris
Right. Yeah.
00:01:54
tauntaunstink
Oh, it was bad.
00:01:56
Chris
Yeah, it was a boring Super Bowl, too.
00:01:58
tauntaunstink
It was a boring Super Bowl.
00:02:00
Chris
Well, you know, the people who love defense and special teams, yeah yeah I guess, you know, they got the rocks off. But yeah.
00:02:07
tauntaunstink
Yeah. Yeah, everybody loves the Super Bowl, but the score is 3-0 after the first quarter.
00:02:12
Chris
Yeah.
00:02:14
tauntaunstink
I mean...
00:02:14
Chris
Yeah. I felt the halftime show was delightful.
00:02:18
tauntaunstink
I didn't care for it, but that's because I haven't cared about an artist on the Super Bowl show in 20-plus years.
00:02:24
Chris
Oh, yeah, I'm just saying it wasn't like anything offensive. It was, yeah even though I couldn't understand what he was saying, there was you know great visuals.
00:02:27
tauntaunstink
No, no, no.
00:02:31
Chris
There was a story that was being told.
00:02:32
tauntaunstink
Yeah.
00:02:35
tauntaunstink
Yeah, i what I had the argument on somebody on my shift, and they were like, well, I just want somebody what I know.
00:02:35
Chris
so
00:02:42
tauntaunstink
I'm like, I haven't known somebody on the Super Bowl show since like the 90s. What are you talking about? What could it be an old?
00:02:48
Chris
Yeah.

Music and Globalization of Football

00:02:50
tauntaunstink
like
00:02:52
tauntaunstink
ever we We had just gone over, you and i like the top Spotify artists for the year, and we didn't know any of them.
00:02:58
Chris
Oh my gosh, yeah. Yeah.
00:03:00
tauntaunstink
you know So it's welcome welcome to being out of touch with the world.
00:03:02
Chris
Yeah.
00:03:07
Chris
Yeah. We're old. Yeah.
00:03:08
tauntaunstink
We're old. They no longer care about us.
00:03:11
Chris
No.
00:03:12
tauntaunstink
And nor should they.
00:03:12
Chris
No. No.
00:03:13
tauntaunstink
and so ah ah The fake outrage about the whole Bad Bunny thing is hilarious me because the the NFL does not give a crap.
00:03:16
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:03:21
tauntaunstink
Because there are... They already know you idiots are going to watch the the Super Bowl. Now they're trying to get you know Latin America to watch the Super Bowl.
00:03:29
Chris
Yeah.
00:03:29
tauntaunstink
And they succeeded.
00:03:31
Chris
Yep. Yeah.
00:03:34
tauntaunstink
Yeah, it's the almighty dollar.
00:03:35
Chris
A whole different kind of football. ball
00:03:37
tauntaunstink
Yeah. It is so weird when you see like all these country other countries watch football and the teams that they rep like they rep ah Jaguars are super popular in Britain.
00:03:45
Chris
Yeah.
00:03:50
tauntaunstink
And like here they're like a joke team. They're like, come on Jaguars.
00:03:54
Chris
it's because over there, a It's a Jaguar.
00:03:57
tauntaunstink
Well, think it's more because they played over there like for few years.
00:03:59
Chris
I know.
00:04:01
tauntaunstink
But yeah, it's always funny when you're like, oh, there's like a football fan club for the Jaguars in London.
00:04:07
Chris
Yeah.
00:04:08
tauntaunstink
Jaguars?
00:04:10
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.

Sports Disinterest and Streaming Issues

00:04:15
tauntaunstink
I also have discovered, I think I'm just over football.
00:04:19
Chris
yeah
00:04:21
tauntaunstink
was telling that to my buddy. i was like, I just don't care about it anymore.
00:04:28
Chris
Yeah, yeah. Somebody texted me the other day. It was like, oh, did you see you know the Raiders, the big moves in the offseason? I'm like, no, I haven't.
00:04:36
tauntaunstink
When, like, baseball already had kind of died out to me because...
00:04:40
Chris
Oh, yeah.
00:04:41
tauntaunstink
And and this this is just old man ranting, but, like, you used to go to a baseball game for pretty cheap because there's 300 of them a year.
00:04:47
Chris
Yeah.
00:04:51
tauntaunstink
you know But now if you want to go to a baseball game, you're spending couple hundred bucks to get crappy seats you know between parking and food.
00:04:55
Chris
Right. Yeah.
00:04:58
tauntaunstink
it
00:04:59
Chris
Mm-hmm.
00:05:01
tauntaunstink
No. I'm not doing it.
00:05:02
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:05:03
tauntaunstink
And I still like... I like going to live baseball games. I'm just not going to go into an MLB game.
00:05:09
Chris
Yeah. Now, it's, yeah. Well, and now it's, well, we sped things up with the you know the pitch timer or whatever. Yeah, but you slowed things down because now you have instant replays and bullshit.
00:05:21
tauntaunstink
Yeah. Mm-hmm. And you sped things up, so my $500 ticket is for a 90-minute show. Cool.
00:05:29
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:05:31
tauntaunstink
Instead of couple hours. Yeah, like, I remember, like, even going Orioles games with people from work and, like, seeing all the old ladies just, like, to sit out in the field and crochet. Yeah, that's just a thing they do.
00:05:40
Chris
Yeah.
00:05:42
tauntaunstink
And now they're you're charging them 100 plus bucks a seat.
00:05:43
Chris
Right.
00:05:49
Chris
Yeah. Maybe they get a discount. Maybe if they like crochet like a Orioles beanie or something.
00:05:54
tauntaunstink
Bat warmer.
00:05:55
Chris
Yeah.
00:05:56
tauntaunstink
Hats for butts.
00:05:59
Chris
uh there's like one person that understood that reference yeah yeah it's a good movie though yeah
00:06:01
tauntaunstink
Yeah, yeah, that's fair. sorry That's fair, that's fair. It's a great movie. Yeah, I just, yeah, and i don't know, after this season of football, just, I barely watched any of the Eagles games.
00:06:14
tauntaunstink
And, oh, wow.
00:06:15
Chris
well it's also so hard to watch games yeah the streaming was supposed to make things so much easier and it's made oh
00:06:18
tauntaunstink
That is a whole, that's a nightmare. Wait. It was supposed to be so much better.
00:06:29
tauntaunstink
Oh, would you like to watch this Thursday night game? Well, you need Amazon Prime football. Would you like to watch this Monday night game?
00:06:34
Chris
Yeah.
00:06:35
tauntaunstink
You need YouTube premium special.
00:06:38
Chris
Yeah.
00:06:39
tauntaunstink
Fuck you.
00:06:40
Chris
Yeah. so this game, know, the Saturday yeah game in the UK? That's on Tubi or whatever. it's
00:06:47
tauntaunstink
Yeah, and like, that's got to be terrible for bars, right?
00:06:52
Chris
Yeah.
00:06:53
tauntaunstink
Because people go to bars to watch games. It's a thing, or at least it was back in our generation.
00:06:56
Chris
Right.
00:06:58
Chris
No, I think it still is.
00:06:59
tauntaunstink
You know, I don't know if little kids, I don't think 20 year olds do that anymore.
00:07:02
Chris
Well, they don't drink, so.
00:07:03
tauntaunstink
They don't say don't drink, but for people like us still go to the bars.
00:07:07
Chris
Yeah.
00:07:07
tauntaunstink
And they have to now have every... Because there's no way... You can't go to a bar in the Philly area and not have the the Eagles game on, right?
00:07:16
Chris
Right.
00:07:17
tauntaunstink
They have to have every one of these stupid services to have the game.
00:07:20
Chris
Yeah.
00:07:22
tauntaunstink
It's a nightmare.
00:07:23
Chris
They just have each employee. They're like, all right, look, this is your week. We need you sign up for a free trial.
00:07:27
tauntaunstink
Right. Right. yeah yeah it's got to be frustrating, right? Because but they're like, I only need...
00:07:33
Chris
Yeah.
00:07:36
tauntaunstink
Because if you're if you're a a Philly sports bar, I'm assuming like they probably have it for everything. Because like you go to a Thursday night, on a so they're going to watch the game.
00:07:45
Chris
Yeah.
00:07:46
tauntaunstink
they're to have to have every stupid streaming service.
00:07:49
Chris
Yeah.
00:07:49
tauntaunstink
Ugh.
00:07:49
Chris
Yeah. And you got to have, you Yeah, you you would think you'd be able to, like, at least get it for your market. So it's like, hey, you're getting this package.
00:07:58
tauntaunstink
Right.
00:08:00
Chris
But this is guaranteeing you, like, for Philly, that you're going be able to watch, you know, the Eagles, the Sixers, you know the Flyers, you name it.
00:08:10
tauntaunstink
Definitely not. It does not exist. it's
00:08:14
Chris
But you would think that's how it should be.
00:08:16
tauntaunstink
It should.
00:08:17
Chris
Yeah.
00:08:17
tauntaunstink
i remember i remember all the guys, and I didn't care, but all the guys at Station 1 were freaking out because we we couldn't get mass in.
00:08:26
Chris
Yeah.
00:08:26
tauntaunstink
We couldn't watch Orioles games.
00:08:27
Chris
The Mid-Atlantic Sports Network.
00:08:30
tauntaunstink
but they So they couldn't watch Orioles games.
00:08:31
Chris
Yeah.
00:08:32
tauntaunstink
We didn't in Orioles market.
00:08:33
Chris
Yeah.
00:08:34
tauntaunstink
like this What? What?
00:08:36
Chris
Let's look at all the people that can't watch the Washington games.
00:08:36
tauntaunstink
mr one
00:08:39
tauntaunstink
Yeah, that's fair.
00:08:40
Chris
Yeah.
00:08:42
tauntaunstink
it's and And it's got to be bad for the advertisers.
00:08:42
Chris
So it's, yeah.
00:08:46
Chris
Yeah.
00:08:47
tauntaunstink
Because that's how you advertise. That's how you made money, right? You sold out. You just showed the game. What's the point of having cable now I can't watch the sports game?
00:08:56
Chris
Right.
00:08:58
Chris
Right. Yeah.
00:08:58
tauntaunstink
The sports ball.
00:09:00
Chris
Yeah. Well, and for the advertisers, that you they want to advertise to a local market.
00:09:06
tauntaunstink
Mm-hmm.
00:09:06
Chris
So, yeah. Yeah. I'm sure somebody watching, you know, in Cincinnati cares about Alton Brothers furniture sale next week.
00:09:17
tauntaunstink
Oh my god. the the like The four spots they do that are local spots during the Super Bowl.
00:09:23
Chris
Oh, they're hilarious.
00:09:23
tauntaunstink
oh They were so bad.
00:09:25
Chris
Yeah.
00:09:27
Chris
Yeah. Local commercials are always bad.
00:09:27
tauntaunstink
What is going on?
00:09:30
tauntaunstink
I guess because I live in Philly area, like we have the Philly market, so they're not like that. We don't get... What was a Carpet Man? I don't even know what like what the one was.
00:09:42
Chris
Matt, the carpet guy or whatever.
00:09:43
tauntaunstink
Yeah, yeah.
00:09:44
Chris
Yeah. yeah
00:09:46
tauntaunstink
Weird.
00:09:47
Chris
Yeah, yeah. I did call them for a flooring estimate the next day.
00:09:52
tauntaunstink
Did you? Well, worked.
00:09:52
Chris
No.
00:09:53
tauntaunstink
One. Yeah,
00:09:54
Chris
yeah ah Yeah.
00:09:54
tauntaunstink
one
00:09:57
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:09:58
tauntaunstink
yeah i
00:09:58
Chris
like I went to bed after the third quarter.
00:10:01
tauntaunstink
Yeah, me too.
00:10:02
Chris
Yeah.
00:10:03
tauntaunstink
Well, was at work. So, yeah.
00:10:04
Chris
Well, yeah. Yeah.
00:10:06
tauntaunstink
Yeah, what once it...
00:10:06
Chris
Yep.
00:10:08
tauntaunstink
Once they had the second interception, I was like, all right, this game's over. I'm going bed.
00:10:13
Chris
Yep. Yep.
00:10:15
tauntaunstink
Then I immediately got back and went on a call.
00:10:17
Chris
yeah yeah yep
00:10:19
tauntaunstink
And then it went back to get... And then immediately got back and went on a call. We were up all night that night.

Paramedic Tales and Hospital Policies

00:10:26
Chris
tangentially to that so on the medic yesterday the i was like know i did my normal if i'm on the ambulance i took the first patient i'm talking to her and you know that's it she's like oh you know i've been having belly pain you know i said what what exactly describe it she's like i got the gurgles okay that's going in my narrative But I said, well, how long has this been going on? She's like, well, I got out the hospital yesterday and it woke me up this morning at 3.30. I was like, oh, did you go back to bed? She's like, no, i've been up since then, you know, just in, you just kind of uncomfortable. I was like, why did you call at 3.30? She was like, I didn't want to bother you guys at 3.30 because my stomach hurt.
00:11:05
tauntaunstink
Bless your soul.
00:11:05
Chris
I just sat back. I clapped. I was like, God bless you, woman. But she then... Once we got her to said emergency room and put her in triage, she said, wait, I thought if I called an ambulance, I got a room.
00:11:21
Chris
No, Touche.
00:11:22
tauntaunstink
they may in there that how this works?
00:11:25
Chris
Yeah. Yep.
00:11:26
tauntaunstink
Yeah.
00:11:27
Chris
So, but yeah.
00:11:28
tauntaunstink
That is the one PSA that I wish I could get out to a wider market.
00:11:32
Chris
Yeah.
00:11:33
tauntaunstink
is We are not we're not the reservation for the room. That's not how that works.
00:11:38
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:11:39
tauntaunstink
Yeah. Hell, some hospitals have special waiting rooms just for anyone's patients.
00:11:45
Chris
mm-hmm mm-hmm yeah
00:11:48
tauntaunstink
You're not you're not guaranteeing anything getting anything faster or better.
00:11:52
Chris
no i mean if you're critically ill yeah or injured but yeah yes yeah yeah yeah yes yes
00:11:53
tauntaunstink
Unless you're really, really right.
00:11:57
tauntaunstink
Yeah. But even if you're critically ill or injured, you walk in the front door, going to take you back. Hopefully. The only difference is we helped triage you at that point.
00:12:10
tauntaunstink
Which apparently said hospital, by the way, was upset with the Salisbury Fire Department the other day because we did not take patients to them instead of flying straight to Baltimore.
00:12:16
Chris
Oh, they can kiss my hairy butthole.
00:12:25
tauntaunstink
But I...
00:12:27
Chris
We followed the protocol and got the patient the right treatment that they needed.
00:12:31
tauntaunstink
I agree.
00:12:32
Chris
Yeah.
00:12:33
tauntaunstink
i just think it's um
00:12:37
tauntaunstink
funny that they would even make that comment.
00:12:39
Chris
Yeah.
00:12:40
tauntaunstink
This patient needed a treatment you don't even have in your hospital, but we're going to have it.
00:12:40
Chris
It's because...
00:12:44
Chris
Yeah.
00:12:45
tauntaunstink
Well, did you have it that day?
00:12:47
Chris
Yeah.
00:12:47
tauntaunstink
Or we're thinking about having it.
00:12:49
Chris
Yeah.
00:12:49
tauntaunstink
Cool.
00:12:49
Chris
It's, we want money.
00:12:50
tauntaunstink
Yeah. ye Yeah. Yeah.
00:12:52
Chris
Please come here. So. Yeah.
00:12:56
tauntaunstink
Trying to explain to them the timing of landing a helicopter, picking the patient up, landing the hal helicopter again at their facility versus picking the patient up, flying them to Baltimore, and landing the helicopter is impossible.
00:13:12
tauntaunstink
Like, it doesn't save us any time. We could just land them at Baltimore almost as quickly as we can land them at your hospital.
00:13:17
Chris
Oh, hell yeah.
00:13:19
tauntaunstink
And then they're at definitive care.
00:13:21
Chris
Yeah, then they're not yeah they're not getting that midpoint triage that, oh, as soon as you get to the ah the the local ER and they're like, oh, we need to fly them out.
00:13:26
tauntaunstink
Right.
00:13:30
Chris
It's like, this is what we said. But yeah.
00:13:35
tauntaunstink
And it's it's funny because I come from the Delaware system where everything goes. If it's trauma, it has to go to the trauma center, you know.
00:13:45
Chris
Right.
00:13:46
tauntaunstink
So it's easy.
00:13:48
Chris
Yeah.
00:13:49
tauntaunstink
You don't have these, well, we're a level two trauma. like Are you? Well, we're kind of level.
00:13:54
Chris
Yeah.
00:13:54
tauntaunstink
I can't pretend at two o'clock in the morning to know the difference between a level two and a level three. I just know the patient needs to go here. You know.
00:14:03
Chris
Yeah.
00:14:04
tauntaunstink
and just Also, the thing I told that person to tell their they're significant other was we weren't in charge of that decision.
00:14:05
Chris
yeah
00:14:13
tauntaunstink
CISCOM and MSP made that decision. That decision is now out of our hands.
00:14:19
Chris
Yeah.
00:14:21
tauntaunstink
We're not flying burn patients to you. We're not flying real trauma patients to you because I've watched too many real trauma patients die in your hospital.
00:14:25
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. And show me in our protocols where we didn't do the right thing.
00:14:36
Chris
Yeah.
00:14:36
tauntaunstink
well it's an argument that I've had about that hospital for a long we don't work for them our protocols are not written for us to work for them like they aren't our med control
00:14:41
Chris
Yeah.
00:14:46
Chris
Right.
00:14:51
tauntaunstink
there is the sad fact that one of their doctors is our you know medical director but but that's not how it works we don't work for them yeah
00:15:00
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:15:04
Chris
Uh-huh.
00:15:05
tauntaunstink
And they made that comment, and i was well, you can tell that person to to suck it, because that's not how it works.
00:15:10
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:15:12
tauntaunstink
And if you want to spend time going through this protocol, and you find me where we did it wrong, I'll happily entertain you, but I know that they didn't.
00:15:19
Chris
Right. Yeah.
00:15:22
Chris
I can tell you another PSA that needs to go out, which boggled my mind. was on that fire a scene the other day at Parsonsburg, I was talking to the state deputy fire marshal that was there.
00:15:34
Chris
That was the, he said out of the last five fires they investigated, four of them didn't have insurance.
00:15:41
tauntaunstink
Huh.
00:15:41
Chris
Yeah. And one of those was a landlord that it was a double fatal.
00:15:49
tauntaunstink
Oh my god, that was a... He also didn't have a parasite house?
00:15:51
Chris
Yep. Nope.
00:15:53
tauntaunstink
Oh, they're gonna sue the shit of that dude.
00:15:56
Chris
Maybe.
00:15:57
tauntaunstink
Oh. That dude's gonna lose everything.
00:16:00
Chris
So unless he meant that the occupants didn't have insurance, but I don't know, maybe, but still.
00:16:05
tauntaunstink
maybe.
00:16:10
tauntaunstink
Yeah, insurance on your house is...
00:16:10
Chris
Yeah.
00:16:12
tauntaunstink
a I thought it was mandatory.
00:16:12
Chris
Yeah. Well, so.
00:16:17
tauntaunstink
guess if you don't have a mortgage?
00:16:18
Chris
Yeah, I guess if your mortgage is paid off, you don't have to.
00:16:22
tauntaunstink
Yeah.
00:16:23
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:16:24
tauntaunstink
Huh.
00:16:25
Chris
Yeah, one in Parsonsburg, I mean, it was an outbuilding, so I can kind of say it but he stored like farm equipment or something. that i don't know. it was very confusing. And the poor guy had no idea shut his garage was on fire. Yep.
00:16:36
tauntaunstink
Was the clue that it was on fire? Or...
00:16:40
Chris
Well, it the chief of the airport pulled in his driveway you know, he walked outside. What are you here? And he pointed in the hole.
00:16:50
Chris
My God.
00:16:51
tauntaunstink
Oh, jeez.
00:16:51
Chris
Yeah, pretty much so.
00:16:57
tauntaunstink
We had to go to a very nice couple of dudes who were just out. they were they were It was finally not a windy night. It wasn't even that hot even that cold the other night. So they were just burning some stuff in their backyard.
00:17:10
tauntaunstink
And their nosy neighbor, they're burning stuff. It's close to my fence. And I got there and I'm like... it's in a burn pit 50 50 feet from your from your neighbor's fence because you're the neighbor on the other side of that fence you nosy nosy pricks and they're like are you goingnna make it put it out i said i'm not gonna make you put it out just tamp it down a little bit that's all i want out of you
00:17:22
Chris
Oh my gosh.
00:17:33
Chris
And then you deck gun the other person's house.
00:17:34
tauntaunstink
and then i decked on the other house and house i'm in a sheet of ice
00:17:37
Chris
Yeah. Nosy neighbors.
00:17:44
tauntaunstink
Those are your neighbors.
00:17:45
Chris
Yeah. We had some guy walk up to the ambulance yesterday as we're about to leave and just like comes to the driver's side window and like his head is almost touching. And we had a probie with us and I was like,
00:17:59
Chris
what the hell he was like i can't pull forward i'm gonna run him over us i said put the window down the guy's like what are you doing we're about take somebody to the hospital well who are you taking i can't tell you that what house did you go into i can't tell you that why not because of hipaa and it's none of your business yeah yep oh what's that but you we we're in 16th district yeah
00:18:15
tauntaunstink
Because it's none your business. That's the answer. It's none your goddamn business. Let me... Hmm. Wait, wait. Were you at 16? Were you at 16?
00:18:28
tauntaunstink
So were you at Gateway Village?
00:18:30
Chris
No, no, no, no
00:18:31
tauntaunstink
Oh. So usually it's the old people little neighborhoods that are very nosy.
00:18:37
Chris
no. Yeah, this was ah like Maryland and Light Street. Yeah.
00:18:42
tauntaunstink
I say station one, we get that all the time. Cause there's all those old people, neighbors.
00:18:46
Chris
Oh, yeah. Yeah. Shoemaker and all that.
00:18:48
tauntaunstink
Oh, what's going on? And they, and they come like shuffling across. Like they're going to come help us.
00:18:53
Chris
Yeah.
00:18:54
tauntaunstink
Like they don't need you.
00:18:54
Chris
Yep.
00:18:56
tauntaunstink
You don't need to be going in this lady's house. She's covered in shit. How about we give her a little privacy?
00:19:00
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. It was all, it was all I could do to not revert back to the just straight street medic days and how I would have talked to that person.
00:19:14
tauntaunstink
oh i just like I just start putting out stickers like, oh, you you came inside of our quarantine zone. Sorry, you have to be quarantined for the next 30 days.
00:19:22
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's just, yeah.
00:19:28
tauntaunstink
i I mean, part of me is like, oh, they care about their neighbors. And the other part me like, it's their business. It's not your business.
00:19:35
Chris
Yeah. If they wanted you to know, they'd tell you.
00:19:36
tauntaunstink
you know Right.
00:19:40
tauntaunstink
Though fair... when my neighbor When my older neighbor was living next to me, the animals would shut up there and I'd go help them. so
00:19:51
Chris
Yeah, but you didn't just barge in.
00:19:54
tauntaunstink
No. ah just They knew. a Well, actually, the kids usually came and got me.
00:19:59
Chris
Yeah.
00:20:01
tauntaunstink
Because I was their emergency plan.
00:20:03
Chris
Hmm.
00:20:03
tauntaunstink
this
00:20:03
Chris
Yeah.
00:20:05
tauntaunstink
If anything happens, go over and knock on Ron's door. Come and get him ah over here. I'm glad this is my life.
00:20:09
Chris
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I've got up a couple people in the neighborhood that have that feeling.
00:20:15
Chris
So I'm like, yeah.
00:20:15
tauntaunstink
I do two. Oh, I like like three of them know that they say that, but I'm like, what do you expect me to do here?
00:20:20
Chris
Yeah.
00:20:22
tauntaunstink
Well,
00:20:22
Chris
It's like, I'm start putting a flag up or something that's like been drinking. so Yeah.
00:20:28
tauntaunstink
you clearly need albuterol. Let me just get this out of my bag. I stole from work. I mean,
00:20:34
Chris
Yeah, I had a neighbor the other day their kid messaged me as I was leaving work. Yeah. Yeah. Mr. Chris, you know, mom cut her finger really, really bad. Can you look at it?
00:20:47
Chris
Okay.
00:20:48
tauntaunstink
Sure.
00:20:48
Chris
Yeah. Nope. And I got,
00:20:50
tauntaunstink
Well, to be fair, between you and me, you're in a marked vehicle.
00:20:54
Chris
ah yes, that's true. Yep. I got an AED. I can help you with that. Um, but yeah, I got there.
00:21:01
tauntaunstink
You should have been like, well, this isn't...
00:21:01
Chris
I mean, bleeding was controlled. I was like, maybe, you know, glue it together. Some sterri-strips. Yeah.
00:21:10
tauntaunstink
should have been like, well, this isn't the city of Salisbury and you don't pay my salary, so see ya.
00:21:10
Chris
That's about it.
00:21:17
tauntaunstink
You want to get annexed in the city?
00:21:17
Chris
Yeah.
00:21:22
Chris
That's not how that works. The city just gobbles up territory.
00:21:25
tauntaunstink
No, all the time. Yeah, i just I see the city all the time just forcibly sending their police force out to areas and grabbing it into the city.
00:21:26
Chris
God, I hate that. Yeah.
00:21:36
Chris
No, they've gotten sneakier. They send ah waterworks out there and they put little flags out.
00:21:41
tauntaunstink
That's fair. I give these people plumbing.
00:21:42
Chris
God. Yeah. Yeah.
00:21:45
tauntaunstink
Yeah.
00:21:45
Chris
Reliable plumbing and sewer.
00:21:47
tauntaunstink
Yeah, clean, clean drinking water.
00:21:48
Chris
How dare you?
00:21:50
tauntaunstink
Same city with their damn insidious things.
00:21:55
Chris
Yeah.
00:21:58
Chris
Yeah. One year, seven months.
00:22:02
tauntaunstink
Two years eight, two years seven?
00:22:04
Chris
something like that.
00:22:05
tauntaunstink
years seven.
00:22:05
Chris
don't know. Maybe it's one eight. i don't know.
00:22:08
tauntaunstink
You ain't going anywhere.
00:22:09
Chris
Yeah. I don't know, man. I don't know.
00:22:16
tauntaunstink
It is funny we have reached the age of, oh, we talked about his retirement.

Reflections on Retirement

00:22:20
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's like the other day to admin lunch. The entire way to lunch was literally all of us talking about retirement and benefits and how to figure things out. And yeah.
00:22:36
tauntaunstink
I don't know, and I'm warning you now if you're still around, how my last year is going to go.
00:22:50
tauntaunstink
Because a lot of this, we need you to come in on your day off for this crap, is probably not going to happen in my last year.
00:22:50
Chris
uh
00:22:56
tauntaunstink
I'm just warning you.
00:22:56
Chris
yeah well that's why that's why you you know you finish out that year but then you go in the drop knowing that that drop ain't gonna last but that way yeah you are literally retired on duty now yeah
00:23:05
tauntaunstink
Oh.
00:23:09
tauntaunstink
I don't think I would last a day in the drop. I don't think I could make it.
00:23:15
Chris
yeah
00:23:16
tauntaunstink
It'd be, hey, Whismur, we need you to nap. This was a mistake. now
00:23:22
Chris
ah Yeah, but you got to finish your shift. No, don't.
00:23:26
tauntaunstink
oh
00:23:26
Chris
No, no, no, no.
00:23:26
tauntaunstink
no
00:23:28
Chris
What about your uniform? It's there in a pile. See ya.
00:23:30
tauntaunstink
yeah i've I've told my boss, if I have to work on my last day, at midnight, you better come get my shit, because I don't care if we're on a call. I'm i'm leaving.
00:23:43
Chris
What? There's an Uber here. Yeah.
00:23:45
tauntaunstink
yeah yep and whispers getting it and he was in command anybody know what we're supposed to
00:23:51
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. that's weird yeah he just stripped down to his underwear and left yeah
00:23:56
tauntaunstink
to yep put gave up the double guns and was out the door gone yeah i just i don't know i could last even 30 minutes on the drop
00:24:09
Chris
yeah yeah everybody's waiting in a room for like this big like award presentation
00:24:10
tauntaunstink
I would get called uptown for something ah innocuous. And I'd like, nah, nah. Nah.
00:24:22
tauntaunstink
Yeah. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yeah. Yeah. That's going to be rough. That last year is going to be... and Like, it feels right.
00:24:35
tauntaunstink
Because I can tell you, when people who... where in my career were at this point in their careers, they were a hell a lot more retired on duty than I am.
00:24:44
Chris
oh yeah yeah yeah yep
00:24:45
tauntaunstink
You know. so It feels right that at least my last year, I'd say. Nah.
00:24:53
Chris
You're not going to, though.
00:24:53
tauntaunstink
Nah.
00:24:54
Chris
You're big talk. You're not going to. Yeah.
00:24:57
tauntaunstink
Okay.
00:24:58
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:25:00
tauntaunstink
You see who shows up those mandatory officer meetings. It ain't gonna be me.
00:25:02
Chris
e
00:25:03
tauntaunstink
I can tell you, I'm not showing up to the mandatory officer meeting two weeks before I was retire and then bitch about things.
00:25:03
Chris
ay
00:25:15
tauntaunstink
I could tell you that's not happening.
00:25:17
Chris
yeah
00:25:19
tauntaunstink
An HR needs me to show to something? Not happening. And you're having a training on new monitors? Nah, I'm good. no but you what You want whismur?
00:25:31
tauntaunstink
You get whismur between the hours of 0700 and 0700 D-Shifts.
00:25:35
Chris
Yeah.
00:25:37
tauntaunstink
Yeah. Especially that last that last few months.
00:25:43
tauntaunstink
It's going to be rough.
00:25:44
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:25:45
tauntaunstink
You haven't done a report in like three months. Yeah, know. It's a shame.
00:25:50
Chris
It's a shame.
00:25:58
Chris
Oh, God.
00:25:59
tauntaunstink
You better start that paperwork soon.
00:26:02
Chris
Yeah.
00:26:03
tauntaunstink
you're not You won't have time.
00:26:05
Chris
Yeah.
00:26:07
tauntaunstink
Ugh.
00:26:09
tauntaunstink
Well, yeah,
00:26:09
Chris
Well, you're ready for topic one.

Mandatory Training and Education Quality

00:26:12
Chris
right. Uh-oh. Okay.
00:26:12
tauntaunstink
it's also work-related.
00:26:17
tauntaunstink
It's tangentially work-related.
00:26:19
Chris
Okay.
00:26:21
tauntaunstink
it's
00:26:24
tauntaunstink
we we got a memo from the state saying that we were required to take, think was six classes.
00:26:28
Chris
ah
00:26:33
tauntaunstink
that to be fair i'm sure they sent it out earlier that we were supposed to do these things i don't think i remember ever seeing anything about him so
00:26:40
Chris
They sent it out like last year and I forwarded it and asked everybody to do it.
00:26:44
tauntaunstink
i don't remember that at all and no one else remembers it but i don't remember them saying it was a mandatory thing i don't know has it
00:26:46
Chris
I did.
00:26:53
Chris
It's always been mandatory, but yeah. Yeah. It's the mandatory ALS state content that MIMS puts out every two years.
00:27:04
tauntaunstink
Is it?
00:27:05
Chris
Yes.
00:27:05
tauntaunstink
Never heard of this.
00:27:07
Chris
You've done it though.
00:27:07
tauntaunstink
So anyways, i probably have.
00:27:10
Chris
Yeah.
00:27:10
tauntaunstink
And I'm not complaining that I had to do the classes. that's not what i'm That's not what I'm about to complain about. What I'm about to complain about is how terrible the classes were.
00:27:16
Chris
Yeah.
00:27:19
Chris
Oh my. Yeah. Yeah.
00:27:23
tauntaunstink
The two of the classes were clearly AI written with a weird looking avatar thing.
00:27:29
Chris
Yes.
00:27:36
Chris
Yeah.
00:27:37
tauntaunstink
that didn't know how to say words correctly, like mimes and Kumar.
00:27:41
Chris
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
00:27:48
tauntaunstink
And just the cadence was, this is really, that's what it should have been the test was. At the end of the the class, it should have been, are you pissed off about the cadence of the of the of the content?
00:28:00
tauntaunstink
That's how they know you watched it.
00:28:02
Chris
Yeah.
00:28:03
tauntaunstink
So I watched those two.
00:28:06
Chris
Yeah.
00:28:07
tauntaunstink
They're terrible.
00:28:08
Chris
Yeah.
00:28:09
tauntaunstink
And I'm like, oh, okay, well, they can't get worse than this.
00:28:11
Chris
But per Qmar, MIMES requires these.
00:28:11
tauntaunstink
I was... Akumar. Right, it was that. Akumar, 2346.2 section, mis what You would think someone at MIMS would have said, maybe we should fix that part.
00:28:29
tauntaunstink
Maybe we should make sure that's correct. But no.
00:28:32
Chris
Yeah.
00:28:33
tauntaunstink
So they they have those two very clearly AI-driven classes.
00:28:38
Chris
Yeah.
00:28:40
tauntaunstink
Then they have a class on whole blood administration, which was really, this is how Howard County does whole blood class.
00:28:48
Chris
Yes.
00:28:49
tauntaunstink
Not this is how you whole blood administration.
00:28:50
Chris
Right.
00:28:51
tauntaunstink
This is how we do it. which was a weird thing to have as a state content, but whatever. So in that class, they have they have they had test questions that actually, i paid attention to the class and I got wrong.
00:29:07
tauntaunstink
And God help you, they didn't tell you why you got them wrong.
00:29:11
Chris
Really?
00:29:11
tauntaunstink
So like they had little short quizzes in between and it didn't give you the correct answer.
00:29:14
Chris
Yeah.
00:29:16
tauntaunstink
It was just like, you got this wrong. Well, paul why did I get it wrong?
00:29:22
Chris
Because you're wrong.
00:29:23
tauntaunstink
because I'm wrong, but I would like to learn what I got wrong so I could correct it. And it just feels like if we're gonna...
00:29:31
Chris
Well, i can I can reach out and have their medical director give you a call.
00:29:35
tauntaunstink
Howard Counties?
00:29:36
Chris
Yeah.
00:29:36
tauntaunstink
No, I'm good. I don't need to talk to any medical directors.
00:29:37
Chris
OK.
00:29:39
tauntaunstink
Thanks.
00:29:39
Chris
OK. Yeah.
00:29:40
tauntaunstink
But it just feels like if we're gonna send a state level class out, it should be good educational material, right?
00:29:43
Chris
Yeah.
00:29:49
Chris
Yeah. Well, I think that should be from any institution or.
00:29:52
tauntaunstink
Well, that's kind of my viewpoint. Anybody that sends little trainings out should be it should be good training. I can tell you, i watch the stuff that comes out of my wife's work, and it is terrible.
00:29:59
Chris
Well, any training, really.
00:30:04
Chris
Yeah.
00:30:05
tauntaunstink
like My wife's job will be like, hey, we have to have a mandatory meeting, so stop doing your work, right? Stop doing real work, and we have this meeting.
00:30:17
tauntaunstink
And then it's like, oh, we're going to do trivia today. what the fuck are you guys doing it's crazy
00:30:24
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. So it's really continuing education should be relevant and good is what you're saying.
00:30:32
tauntaunstink
yes 100 continue education should well it should be two things it should not be a recurgitation right and it it should be engaging and and and pushing forward your skills right
00:30:35
Chris
Yeah.
00:30:41
Chris
Right.
00:30:48
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. It should be relevant. It should be, you know, uh maybe yeah i can see some you know being more of a refresher to topics that we don't cover all the time you know but again it shouldn't be writ regurgitation it should be you know hey here's you know like the application of this or you know i i've always thought scenario-based stuff is better than just regurgitation
00:31:20
tauntaunstink
Well, you know who, and um'm he definitely doesn't pay me any money, but who I'm going to say is the best, has done the best continuation training that I've ever taken. Dr. Antebi.
00:31:33
Chris
Yes.
00:31:34
tauntaunstink
That guy, he he, he doesn't come in here and he's like, we're going to talk about your protocols. He's like, we're going talk about the changes in medicine. We're go to talk about how you can apply this stuff to real life.
00:31:44
Chris
Yes.
00:31:47
Chris
Right.
00:31:47
tauntaunstink
And he, he, Clearly gets his audience.
00:31:51
Chris
Yeah.
00:31:52
tauntaunstink
he could He could draw a little better on his little whiteboard. But he...
00:31:55
Chris
Oh my gosh, his whiteboard is not good.
00:31:57
tauntaunstink
but but he
00:31:58
Chris
Almost as bad as John Madden back in the day.
00:32:00
tauntaunstink
Yeah, almost. But he he he clearly gets his audience and who he's talking to.
00:32:05
Chris
Yeah.
00:32:06
tauntaunstink
Oh, speaking of whiteboards, there's a tangent to that change it to that tangent. is I watched a nutrition class. It was about firefighter nutrition. And she didn't understand how whiteboards look on camera.
00:32:16
Chris
Okay.
00:32:19
Chris
Hmm.
00:32:20
tauntaunstink
So it was backwards. She put out a whole video where everything was backwards.
00:32:22
Chris
Oh.
00:32:24
tauntaunstink
i was like, God damn it. would have better off not using the whiteboard.
00:32:29
Chris
Was it Meg?
00:32:30
tauntaunstink
Yes.
00:32:31
Chris
o Ooh.
00:32:32
tauntaunstink
Wait.
00:32:34
Chris
Meg Louts.
00:32:34
tauntaunstink
Maggie. Yes. Yeah. Yeah.
00:32:36
Chris
like okay all right oh my god I'll message her
00:32:37
tauntaunstink
Yeah. Somebody said that it might have been on a purpose so people didn't see here her information. Don't do the information then.
00:32:47
Chris
oh yeah I don't know yeah yeah yeah
00:32:51
tauntaunstink
right that then Don't do it. Yeah. so Yes, I think continuing education needs to be
00:33:02
tauntaunstink
but and he's look I'm going to be like, I think that one of those MIMS topics out of the six of them, one of them was actually really important and could have been a really good class.
00:33:16
tauntaunstink
But I think they put zero effort into them.
00:33:19
Chris
but who I thought you said Mimes sponsored it.
00:33:22
tauntaunstink
Mimes, I'm sorry, mimes, mimes, yes, mimes.
00:33:23
Chris
Yeah.
00:33:24
tauntaunstink
But the one on ethics like and the changes of ethics and how things work could have been a really good class and could have been engaging, but it was so poorly done that you're not get information out of it because you're so focused on hearing Kumar and Mimes that you're not, right?
00:33:24
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:33:29
Chris
yeah.
00:33:42
tauntaunstink
Because you're not going to go oh, well, I have to take this seriously because they're not taking it seriously.
00:33:44
Chris
ah yeah
00:33:47
Chris
Yeah, yeah.
00:33:48
tauntaunstink
You know, yeah.
00:33:48
Chris
Well, when you retire and take over education for instance.
00:33:52
tauntaunstink
yeah well it could have been a great class about ethical issues it went really weird because it started out as this is about ethics of patient care and then it was like and let's talk about marijuana use why did he what this is mimes view on marijuana use first off mimes doesn't get to make that justification
00:33:56
Chris
Oh, yeah, yeah.
00:34:01
Chris
Yeah.
00:34:08
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. yeah
00:34:19
Chris
wouldn't it be nice it wouldn't have been funny though if it was like this is mimes view on Mary Juana
00:34:24
tauntaunstink
Mary Juana. Yeah. it it really It really bugged me on a professional level that it was done so poorly.
00:34:33
Chris
yeah yeah yeah a lot of con ed mm-hmm yeah yeah there is
00:34:34
tauntaunstink
And I feel that about
00:34:38
tauntaunstink
lot of Con Ed. Even The Prodigy, which I've found for the most part to be good, there's a bunch of it that's just bad. Like a bunch of it's just podcasts.
00:34:48
Chris
there is yeah.
00:34:51
tauntaunstink
And that's fine, i guess.
00:34:53
Chris
Mm-hmm.
00:34:55
tauntaunstink
But that's not how people learn.
00:34:57
Chris
Right. Yeah.
00:34:59
tauntaunstink
Like, i got just listening to you guys talk is not great for me.
00:35:01
Chris
Well, I, yeah, I would much rather, you know, for con ed, yeah, go to a seminar or, you know,
00:35:04
tauntaunstink
Great for me, Elise.
00:35:13
Chris
something where i I might actually be able to ask a question, you know, and like a podcast or something that's fine if it's alive, but it's once it's distributed, you know, you can't ask the question you can't, you know, bounce things off.
00:35:19
tauntaunstink
Right. Yeah.
00:35:25
Chris
Yeah. Even yeah like you talk about Dr. Antebi, I mean, some of the hand heavy stuff, the, the conversations that happen in the chat are, you know, some really good things.
00:35:34
tauntaunstink
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:35:35
Chris
So
00:35:36
tauntaunstink
yeah with When he does his quarterly ones where you get to sit there and ask him questions, they're really good.
00:35:40
Chris
yeah.
00:35:42
tauntaunstink
And I see him a lot on other stuff now, so I just kind of if i see him teaching something i just jump into jump into that which is nice but i just feel like most of the con ed stuff and you and i have been paramedics for lot time right and how many years of our refreshers were just here's the slides we did four years ago we're gonna go through these slides again you know what a waste of opportunity you know
00:35:50
Chris
Yeah. Yep.
00:35:56
Chris
Yeah.
00:36:00
Chris
Oh, yeah.
00:36:04
Chris
Oh, my god.
00:36:07
Chris
Mm-hmm.
00:36:10
Chris
Mm-hmm.
00:36:12
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:36:15
tauntaunstink
It was like a...
00:36:15
Chris
Yeah. Well, I mean, even with the, like the, what the legit training that we have to do, like the cybersecurity.
00:36:17
tauntaunstink
We...
00:36:23
tauntaunstink
Mm-hmm.
00:36:24
Chris
Yeah. It's. ah
00:36:26
tauntaunstink
It's a joke.
00:36:27
Chris
Yeah.
00:36:28
tauntaunstink
It's a joke. Right?
00:36:29
Chris
Yeah.
00:36:30
tauntaunstink
It's... It's... Bad. It's done poorly.
00:36:33
Chris
Yeah. Yep.
00:36:35
tauntaunstink
I'm a hacker, quote-unquote. I'm gonna show you how...
00:36:37
Chris
Right.
00:36:38
tauntaunstink
It's...
00:36:39
Chris
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:36:39
tauntaunstink
Okay. Cool. Yeah. And I got... Like, some of that stuff...
00:36:46
tauntaunstink
feels like, oh, well, it's mandated, let's check the box. But I just feel like we never should be checking boxes in training.
00:36:51
Chris
Yeah, yeah, yep.
00:36:53
tauntaunstink
we should It should always be useful. Well, but...
00:36:57
Chris
Mm-hmm, right, yeah.
00:36:59
tauntaunstink
you know i
00:37:00
Chris
Yeah, make it relevant, you know, for like that cybersecurity. Have somebody who recently retired, you know, show them, how they logged onto a computer and you know all their issues yeah
00:37:15
tauntaunstink
also like make it relevant to the audience because a lot of the people who like a lot of that legit training is it's clearly meant for people who work in banks and financing like offices you know i remember we took one and it was like and make sure when you open the door you know who's getting into in this into the building with you it's like i work in a fire station i know who's going to the building with me
00:37:26
Chris
oh yeah
00:37:39
Chris
yeah
00:37:42
tauntaunstink
the
00:37:42
Chris
yeah
00:37:43
tauntaunstink
People aren't social engineering their way into the fire station. All they is knock on the door.
00:37:45
Chris
yeah
00:37:47
tauntaunstink
Can I come in? Yes, you can.
00:37:48
Chris
yeah
00:37:49
tauntaunstink
that
00:37:51
Chris
yeah
00:37:52
tauntaunstink
that's what wait We're just from...
00:37:57
tauntaunstink
Maybe because we're also firefighters and firefighting training is so hands-on and you get more out of that, you just feel like when you take these classes, they're just like, this was...
00:38:02
Chris
yeah
00:38:07
tauntaunstink
It was a waste of my time.
00:38:09
Chris
yeah yeah if it was the you know hey here's this and know when you get done here's the hands-on practical application of it or something
00:38:10
tauntaunstink
I didn't get what I could have gotten out of that two hours I spent, you know, doing those classes. And.
00:38:28
tauntaunstink
Well, and like, or I would, I'm going to go back to the ethics one. It was like, here's questions about DNR stuff. And then it was just like, think about this, but then there was no discussion.
00:38:37
Chris
yeah yeah
00:38:38
tauntaunstink
Like, no, think about the ramifications of this and then discuss it, right?
00:38:43
Chris
Right, yeah.
00:38:44
tauntaunstink
That's how you teach ethics.
00:38:46
Chris
Yeah.
00:38:46
tauntaunstink
You don't just say, well, this is an ethical situation. Yeah, I get that it's an ethical situation.
00:38:51
Chris
Yeah, that's but that's the quandary you got there.
00:38:54
tauntaunstink
Right. it's You got to have a conversation about what it is. Like I said, I was very frustrated taking it.
00:39:01
Chris
Yeah,
00:39:02
tauntaunstink
I've been frustrated because I'm also taking this blue card class. And it is just dragging my soul down.
00:39:10
Chris
yeah. yeah
00:39:12
tauntaunstink
And I just, because i'm I'm reviewing the class for the city, the department.
00:39:18
Chris
Right.
00:39:19
tauntaunstink
I'm trying to give it all of its attention I can give it. I'm just like, this is outdated. It's not even outdated. It's just not well.
00:39:27
Chris
Non-relevant.
00:39:29
tauntaunstink
Yeah. Yeah. It's like Phoenix fire has always had this thing where they have so much manpower that they can do amazing things.
00:39:39
Chris
Right.
00:39:39
tauntaunstink
And whenever they go to teach a class, they're like, you guys need 38 people in the command post.
00:39:44
Chris
Yeah.
00:39:46
tauntaunstink
We have nine people on scene of the call. Not 38 people in time to go to the command pose.
00:39:53
Chris
Yeah, it's but like you said, it's the relevant and fire department stuff can be very tricky because yeah, one day you're talking to yeah Phoenix that has 85 people and then you're talking to Salisbury that's got, you know, on a working fire dispatch.
00:40:10
Chris
Oh, hey, we get 17 on scene and we're super happy.
00:40:15
tauntaunstink
super happy we we what used to get six and we were like sweet we got six people like you know um and that it's just a tough it is a tough war and like paramedics is the same thing right it's it's super tough because i could spend my entire career in salisbury which i have for the most part i don't think i've i've operated apparently a couple other places but nothing
00:40:16
Chris
So.
00:40:19
Chris
Yeah.
00:40:28
Chris
Yeah.
00:40:39
tauntaunstink
But most of my career has been Salisbury where I've never had a transport over 10 minutes. right So when you talk to me about classes that are like, and 70 minutes into this call, this is what you do.
00:40:45
Chris
Right.
00:40:51
Chris
Yeah.
00:40:51
tauntaunstink
That's not me. It's not relevant to my career.
00:40:53
Chris
Yeah.
00:40:54
tauntaunstink
you know
00:40:54
Chris
Yeah.
00:40:56
tauntaunstink
It's a tough,
00:40:56
Chris
It's like for the, you would I know it'd be ah pain, but like for the state content, it's like, you know, oh, you work for Hagerstown, Annapolis, Salisbury, you can't count Ocean City because they don't like to do anything.
00:41:17
Chris
Easton, you've got this hospital in your backyard. Here's the how the protocols are going to play out for you.
00:41:25
tauntaunstink
Yeah.
00:41:26
Chris
Yeah.
00:41:27
tauntaunstink
Yeah, I mean, it's it's... It's always been a problem with protocols, right? Like, we always...
00:41:33
Chris
Yeah.
00:41:34
tauntaunstink
Whenever we get a new medic, you always have to have the conversation of sometimes you're just not going get shit done.
00:41:40
Chris
Yeah. Right. Yeah.
00:41:41
tauntaunstink
Right?
00:41:41
Chris
Yeah.
00:41:43
tauntaunstink
you You are thinking 30 minutes into this call that's only going to last three minutes. Right? And I don't want you to forget about that stuff, but I do want you to get the patient to the hospital.
00:41:55
tauntaunstink
you know
00:41:56
Chris
Well, and it's because especially Maryland, we're a very unique layout state that, you know, the the medic in Garrett County has the same training on paper that the medic in Baltimore city has that Salisbury has that, you know, Elkton has.
00:42:17
tauntaunstink
It's even worse than that. They have the same protocols.
00:42:20
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:42:22
tauntaunstink
It's not just training, it's protocols. Because you cross the state line into Pennsylvania and protocols are by jurisdiction.
00:42:24
Chris
Right.
00:42:30
Chris
Right. Yeah.
00:42:31
tauntaunstink
You know,
00:42:31
Chris
Which I mean, I, I think that would be a delightful thing.
00:42:35
tauntaunstink
yeah, of course.
00:42:35
Chris
Yeah. but Yeah. I have everybody. Yeah. You've got your base, but then, you know, oh, cool. You're in Salisbury. Well, you're not going to focus on yeah the wilderness protocol.
00:42:46
tauntaunstink
Right. Right. This is not a particle you're ever going to look at because why would you?
00:42:50
Chris
Yeah.
00:42:51
tauntaunstink
don't
00:42:52
Chris
Right.
00:42:52
tauntaunstink
it i don't know. it's It's really it's a tough wicket because Maryland is so top down.
00:43:04
Chris
Mm-hmm.
00:43:05
Chris
Mm-hmm.
00:43:05
tauntaunstink
It's kind of the example of why they put out ah a blood class from Howard County because the guys from Howard County submitted this class saying, this is how we're doing it.
00:43:13
tauntaunstink
And Maryland was like, cool, top down. We're just going to send this out.
00:43:15
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:43:17
tauntaunstink
That's not relevant to how Salisbury is going to deliver blood.
00:43:19
Chris
Right.
00:43:20
tauntaunstink
right We're going have different equipment.
00:43:20
Chris
Yeah.
00:43:22
tauntaunstink
We're going to have different blood storage. you know Why would you, as a state, think that way? But that's just how Maryland has always thought.
00:43:32
Chris
Well, I can see if you put it out there and be like, yeah, here's, you know, one way that's proven to work and, you know, you can.
00:43:42
tauntaunstink
But that's a conversation you send to people like you.
00:43:46
Chris
Right.
00:43:46
tauntaunstink
decision makers why send it to a field paramedic saying hey here's how they deliver blood in Howard in howard County well cool is that how we do it oh no absolutely not no
00:43:48
Chris
Oh, yeah, no, I agree. It shouldn't be.
00:43:58
Chris
Yeah.
00:44:01
Chris
Yeah. Or. that medic down saint mary's county who's like cool we're not getting blood yeah
00:44:07
tauntaunstink
right yeah yeah we're not we're years and away from blood right even Salisbury we're not really getting blood, we're getting blood to a unit for now, right?
00:44:21
Chris
yeah yeah oh yeah yeah oh
00:44:21
tauntaunstink
And we're gonna have an entirely different deployment model than Howard County does.
00:44:28
tauntaunstink
that's You can't have these top-down decisions driving your protocols and your education and your training. It's it's a sort real problem.
00:44:36
Chris
Yeah, well, it's very similar to the whole, you know, hey, but just our department this month, you're we're going to review engine company operations.
00:44:51
Chris
So that way, if 1D knows that, hey, you know, we really need to work on, you know, pulling, you know, pulling and packing the rear you know, driver's side line, because we've had a couple issues on calls that has been deployed the right way. You focus on that. Whereas, you know, 16B says, okay, you know what?
00:45:15
Chris
We suck at stretching the front bumper line. Whatever it is, you can make it company specific as opposed to, nope, every everybody the department has to do this and this only, and that's what you get.
00:45:27
tauntaunstink
Well, I had that argument with people on my shift because they were, well, we want this to come out. I'm like, well, no, it's I'm the company officer.
00:45:32
Chris
i know.
00:45:34
tauntaunstink
It's my job to train my company.
00:45:37
Chris
Right.
00:45:37
tauntaunstink
And yes, like... the should say hey wizr we want you you we want you guys to focus on this topic maybe but i don't even like that because it's it's my job to look at my crew and say because like we and we didn't have problems but you know we've had new people on my shift so one month a year we just pull hand lines every day yeah right
00:45:47
Chris
Yeah.
00:45:52
Chris
Right.
00:45:59
Chris
Yeah. And that's, that's wonderful. That's how training at the company level should be.
00:46:05
tauntaunstink
Right. it's not my It's not the department's job to tell me to do that. that
00:46:07
Chris
Yeah.
00:46:07
tauntaunstink
The department's job was promoting me to the position and saying, run your company.
00:46:12
Chris
Exactly.
00:46:13
tauntaunstink
Right? Like, it's not their job to then go, man, we want you to run your company this way.
00:46:15
Chris
Yep. Yep.
00:46:18
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. Well, it gets back to that whole micromanagement. So, yeah.
00:46:24
tauntaunstink
oh We only have two two versions of management in Salisbury, micro and shotgun.
00:46:28
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:46:29
tauntaunstink
That's it.
00:46:33
tauntaunstink
And we all complain about it and then continue to do it.
00:46:35
Chris
Yeah. yeah Yeah.
00:46:39
tauntaunstink
And you can tell when people come out to my shift, guest stars, and they're like, well, what about... and like ah out you're You're a grown-ass adult.
00:46:51
tauntaunstink
You know what your job is.
00:46:53
Chris
Yeah.
00:46:54
tauntaunstink
Do your job.
00:46:55
Chris
And if you don't know what your job is, let's go back to your FTO paperwork and see where somebody screwed up.
00:47:00
tauntaunstink
Right. And if you don't know what your job is, then what the fuck's your boss been doing? Right?
00:47:05
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:47:07
tauntaunstink
It's only my job to intervene when you don't do the right job.
00:47:10
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:47:14
tauntaunstink
I'm just dumb fireman.
00:47:15
Chris
Yeah.
00:47:17
tauntaunstink
I just, I'm dumb fireman who wants the next generation to be better than I was.
00:47:22
Chris
Exactly. Yeah. Yeah.
00:47:24
tauntaunstink
That's all it is.
00:47:25
Chris
Yeah.
00:47:26
tauntaunstink
Like, when I'm complaining about training, it doesn't affect me. I could take every class MIMS puts out for the next three years.
00:47:34
Chris
Mimes.
00:47:34
tauntaunstink
MIMS, I'm sorry. MIMS. Puts out for the next three years.
00:47:37
Chris
yeah
00:47:38
tauntaunstink
It's not going to affect my career.
00:47:40
Chris
Right.
00:47:40
tauntaunstink
Right?
00:47:41
Chris
Yeah.
00:47:42
tauntaunstink
But I really would like the new paramedics. Right? So we have a brand new paramedic. I'm not going to show her those classes.
00:47:51
Chris
Right.
00:47:51
tauntaunstink
Right? Because weirdly, she doesn't have to take them. I don't really understand how that their way they wrote it is very weird.
00:47:58
Chris
Yeah.
00:47:58
tauntaunstink
But those classes should that should not be presented to that person.
00:48:04
Chris
No.
00:48:04
tauntaunstink
They need to be better than that.
00:48:06
Chris
Yeah.
00:48:08
tauntaunstink
And that's... I think that's really my point of this. It's a serious thing. Training.
00:48:14
Chris
Yes.
00:48:15
tauntaunstink
And education. It should be done more seriously.
00:48:20
Chris
Yeah. Well, when I write the memo up Tuesday and send it off to Mimes, the nominate you.
00:48:25
tauntaunstink
of my no Negative.
00:48:28
Chris
ah no Yeah, no, i agree. Yeah.
00:48:31
tauntaunstink
Yeah, it's... Yeah, I mean, and I don't have the perfect answer because they're never going to get everybody.
00:48:39
Chris
Yeah, but just
00:48:41
tauntaunstink
But you get that one person and make a difference.
00:48:43
Chris
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
00:48:45
tauntaunstink
it It's a pretty good feeling.
00:48:47
Chris
It is. It's a tremendous feeling.
00:48:49
tauntaunstink
Yeah. Yeah. It's just every once in a while, they do something that you trained them on and you're like, a little tear comes down rolling down your cheek going,
00:49:01
Chris
Yep. Yep.
00:49:04
Chris
Yep. That was a part of that.
00:49:06
tauntaunstink
Yep,
00:49:10
tauntaunstink
yep. My boy Quillen still to this day will not let me go when I said, why you giving that lady an IV? Well, she's dehydrated. And you're following which protocol then?
00:49:23
tauntaunstink
Hmm. Okay. Cool. That's what we do at Ocean City.
00:49:30
Chris
m
00:49:31
tauntaunstink
Interesting. but What protocol call is that again?
00:49:40
tauntaunstink
Well, we've educated ourselves to education.
00:49:43
Chris
Yeah.
00:49:46
tauntaunstink
Oh, side change it.
00:49:46
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:49:48
tauntaunstink
Side, side change it. Just real quick.
00:49:50
Chris
Mm-hmm.
00:49:52
tauntaunstink
Is Fantastic Four a bad movie or just nobody cared?
00:49:55
Chris
Nobody cared.
00:49:57
tauntaunstink
Okay.
00:49:57
Chris
Yeah. Yeah, thought it was fine.
00:50:00
tauntaunstink
is it just fine or is it... It's just fine, right? It's not like...
00:50:03
Chris
It wasn't like blow my socks off, but I had fun during it. There were couple of slow spots, but overall I had a good time watching it.
00:50:11
tauntaunstink
just nobody cared.
00:50:12
Chris
Yeah.
00:50:13
tauntaunstink
Okay, that's all it.
00:50:13
Chris
Yep. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
00:50:15
tauntaunstink
There won't be a second one.
00:50:17
Chris
ah I'm sure there will be somehow. So yeah.
00:50:23
tauntaunstink
Okay, moving on. Death
00:50:24
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. um I'm sure we've talked about this in the past. How do we make the Olympics matter?
00:50:35
tauntaunstink
penalty. Death penalty.
00:50:36
Chris
We were talking about this the other day at work. I mean, it's just like, yeah, it's great that, you know, it's the Olympics and, you know, people are watching it and everything, but it's like, yeah oh, so-and-so's got, you know, so many gold and, you know, we've only got this and that, but at the end of the day, it doesn't do anything.
00:50:52
tauntaunstink
No, I don't care.
00:50:52
Chris
Like, it should be one of those, like, oh, you, you know, you won this, so you, you know, your country gets X.
00:50:59
tauntaunstink
Do you remember the 1980s classic film, Battle Jocks?
00:51:05
Chris
No.
00:51:06
tauntaunstink
Oh, so the premise of the movie, think it's called Battle Jocks.
00:51:07
Chris
Battle shock.
00:51:09
tauntaunstink
They were big, like big mechs.
00:51:11
Chris
Hmm.
00:51:12
tauntaunstink
the premise of the movie was that they had these giant worldwide competitions. And if you won, you took over that country. You got their resources.
00:51:19
Chris
Oh.
00:51:22
tauntaunstink
We could do that with Olympics.
00:51:25
Chris
ah Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
00:51:27
tauntaunstink
If you win... Hey, any other country, if you win, you get our president.
00:51:33
tauntaunstink
You can have him.
00:51:34
Chris
Yeah. yeah yeah yeah
00:51:37
tauntaunstink
I think it even goes beyond like that, though. We were watching... Olympic speed skating, right? And I was like, I feel so bad for these people because they have worked their entire lives to this moment.
00:51:51
Chris
Yeah.
00:51:53
tauntaunstink
And there's nobody in the stands.
00:51:55
Chris
Yeah.
00:51:55
tauntaunstink
And even me watching it right now, I don't care.
00:52:02
Chris
yeah I mean, there are some.
00:52:03
tauntaunstink
I think part of it is there's just too many sports, right?
00:52:04
Chris
um
00:52:07
tauntaunstink
Like there's just, the Olympics is so much
00:52:07
Chris
yeah
00:52:12
tauntaunstink
There's so much chaff.
00:52:14
Chris
yeah i mean it's almost like it's rent they have to participate around the clock to shove it all in yeah like they added this year what's it called like i something like schemo or something where they have to like
00:52:20
tauntaunstink
Right. And it's just there's there's so much noise to it. You're like, but I don't even.
00:52:34
tauntaunstink
They had.
00:52:35
Chris
cross-country ski up to the top of the slope and then ski down, you know, in a slalom or something.
00:52:42
tauntaunstink
They had mixed snowboard relay hill climb or something like that the other day. And I was like, what are we watching?
00:52:51
Chris
Yeah.
00:52:51
tauntaunstink
And they were like, and do you guys remember the epic moment in 2022 where this this couple won Beijing?
00:52:57
Chris
No.
00:52:58
tauntaunstink
No.
00:52:59
Chris
Yeah.
00:53:00
tauntaunstink
and Well, now they're four years older and he's the oldest person participating in this sport in the Olympics.
00:53:00
Chris
Yeah.
00:53:06
tauntaunstink
And I use the word sport very loosely.
00:53:06
Chris
He's 23. Yeah.
00:53:09
Chris
Yeah. yeah
00:53:13
tauntaunstink
This sounds like something.
00:53:13
Chris
What, you don't consider curling a sport?
00:53:13
tauntaunstink
get paid
00:53:18
tauntaunstink
I get into curling probably more than any other Olympic event. Yeah.
00:53:20
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, but it's like billiards.
00:53:23
tauntaunstink
yeah Yeah. It's just billiard. It's literally shuffleboard on ice.
00:53:27
Chris
Yeah.
00:53:28
tauntaunstink
Right? Like, I just...
00:53:28
Chris
Yeah.
00:53:30
tauntaunstink
Is that the guns with the skis?
00:53:31
Chris
Well, it's like the, what is it the biathlon?
00:53:35
tauntaunstink
Yeah.
00:53:36
Chris
Yeah, but they have these super, you know, they're pretty much air pellets, you know, or whatever.
00:53:41
tauntaunstink
Yeah.
00:53:41
Chris
But it's like this super, no, just, here is a, ah exactly,
00:53:45
tauntaunstink
Get your old paddy Hansi rifle out there.
00:53:48
Chris
Yeah, yeah they' like, yeah, yeah, that'll mix it up.
00:53:49
tauntaunstink
Yeah.
00:53:52
Chris
Yeah, throwing every man into every single sport.
00:53:55
tauntaunstink
Well, that is nice about curling is you can tell those people are not in shape.
00:53:59
Chris
Yeah.
00:54:00
tauntaunstink
This is like guys with beer belly. Oh, let's get the stone down the line.
00:54:07
Chris
yeah yeah yeah i just yeah
00:54:11
tauntaunstink
Yeah, I don't know how you make them matter because...
00:54:15
tauntaunstink
I guess when we were kids, we're this weird generation because we were like at the tail end of the Olympics being a real thing.

Relevance of the Olympics Today

00:54:23
Chris
yeah yeah right
00:54:23
tauntaunstink
Because it was like, you know, it was always the Russians versus the Americans, like the Cold War. The Olympics mattered because of the Cold War, right? And then with the Cold War, it's like, cool, these things are still going, huh?
00:54:36
Chris
Yeah.
00:54:36
tauntaunstink
We got snowboarding now and freakdance and
00:54:37
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:54:41
Chris
it's like when they say, you oh, you, you know, you won the Olympics. Yeah. The entire world has to eat, know, your cuisine for a month out of a year or something. I don't know.
00:54:54
tauntaunstink
and I mean, that's a harsh one.
00:54:58
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:54:59
tauntaunstink
guys Yeah, there's just... There's so much crap in Olympics that I don't care about.
00:55:04
Chris
yeah
00:55:04
tauntaunstink
I don't care about any of it, really.
00:55:07
Chris
Right. Oh, my wife despises the Olympics.
00:55:09
tauntaunstink
Oh, really?
00:55:10
Chris
Oh yeah. She doesn't matter. It doesn't count for anything. It doesn't matter. What's the point? but So like, I'll come home and like, oh yeah, did you see so-and-so did this in figure skating today?
00:55:21
Chris
Stupid.
00:55:24
tauntaunstink
I think the problem is it really matters to those people.
00:55:24
Chris
Yeah.
00:55:27
Chris
Oh yeah.
00:55:28
tauntaunstink
right Those people put so much effort into and work into being Olympic athletes.
00:55:28
Chris
Right.
00:55:34
Chris
Yeah.
00:55:36
tauntaunstink
And also maybe part of it is like it feels like all the stuff that was cool in the Olympics has already been done so we don't care anymore.
00:55:47
Chris
yeah
00:55:47
tauntaunstink
like i feel like Michael Phelps is the last time anybody really cared about the Olympics in America.
00:55:51
Chris
yeah yeah well because i mean this year you've got people yeah there's the controversy of you know guys in the ski jump who are injecting paraffin into their dick oh yeah you haven't heard about that yeah um yeah they evidently they're testing because
00:56:01
tauntaunstink
What?
00:56:04
tauntaunstink
I have not heard about that.
00:56:11
Chris
Some athletes are accused of injecting either paraffin or hyaluronic acid into their penis before the ski jump to increase their wind resistance.
00:56:23
tauntaunstink
Wow.
00:56:25
Chris
Yeah.
00:56:25
tauntaunstink
but Just wow.
00:56:27
Chris
Yeah. ah Yeah. I was like, what, what, what? So.
00:56:33
tauntaunstink
my other favorite part about is this fake outrage that the um how dare they turn the olympics into politic politics how dare these olympic athletes make political statements it's like have you not seen any of the olympics ever like the most famous picture of jesse owens is him you know doing the black power thing next to nazis do you guys y'all never seen this shit before that's what the olympics is
00:56:47
Chris
Ever? Yeah. its
00:56:58
Chris
Yeah. Right.
00:57:02
tauntaunstink
Yeah.
00:57:03
Chris
Yeah.
00:57:05
tauntaunstink
It is sad how little it matters to pretty much anybody.
00:57:09
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:57:12
tauntaunstink
I don't know how you...
00:57:12
Chris
But like you said, it it it matters to the athletes and stuff. And like, I'll give, you know, it was, don't charming, heartwarming, whatever. Like the cross country thing the other day, the the athlete from Haiti, i think he finally finished like 30 some minutes behind everybody else, but he finished and he was smiling and, you know, just so proud to finish that event.
00:57:35
Chris
You know, it's, I guess it's because we don't have those, you know, one-offs like that, like the Jamaican bobsled team and, you know,
00:57:41
tauntaunstink
Yeah. In America, it's it's tough because there's always going somebody in every sport.
00:57:47
Chris
yeah
00:57:48
tauntaunstink
Right? Like, just there's how many Americans, right? They're always going to find some guys like, oh, I kind of like skating. Cool, you're now the speed skating guy for America. What?
00:57:56
Chris
yeah yeah yeah maybe that's what we do maybe one year or something it's just there's a random draft throughout the country yep yep seriously
00:57:58
tauntaunstink
You know? It's just not a thing. And I always wonder, like,
00:58:11
tauntaunstink
It's just, they put your name in the bingo barrel and they say, Ron Wismer, bobsled keen captain.
00:58:20
Chris
yeah yep and you have two months to get ready
00:58:21
tauntaunstink
okay Right, right. Yeah. Here's your goggles. What? i don't
00:58:29
Chris
yeah yeah yeah keep it like yeah oh joe schmerkins high dive sir i can't swim that you got two months
00:58:30
tauntaunstink
Ron Wismer, women's beach volleyball. What?
00:58:44
tauntaunstink
butp The ball has spoken. You better learn, buddy. Yeah. It would be a more entertaining Olympics. I can you that.
00:58:53
Chris
Yeah.
00:58:54
tauntaunstink
Chris Truitt, figure skating.
00:58:54
Chris
Yeah. Oh, I took two years of figure skating lessons when I was in middle school.
00:59:00
tauntaunstink
No doubt you did. Let's see how that, I want to see how it's 46 years old that pays off.
00:59:08
Chris
Yeah. i I mean, I can skate. That's about it. I can't do anything else. I can barely skate backwards.
00:59:14
tauntaunstink
feel but I I definitely can't say backwards on ice skates.
00:59:15
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
00:59:20
tauntaunstink
I always feel bad for the Olympic athletes because what do you do after the Olympics?
00:59:25
Chris
yeah
00:59:26
tauntaunstink
right like This is your last time being in the Olympics. You're 26 years old. You're or too old or whatever the fuck. and like You've spent your entire life at this point training for this sport.
00:59:40
tauntaunstink
and It's a sport you can't work in. Right? Like, you can't be... I'm assuming there's no women's beach... Major League Women's Beach Volleyball League. So then what do you do?
00:59:51
tauntaunstink
Just gotta, like, get get a job at Kinko's?
00:59:54
Chris
i mean yeah So a quick Google search after the Olympics athletes typically take a break to recover, then pursue diverse paths, including returning to a regular job training for future competitions, starting a new career or just retiring.
01:00:11
tauntaunstink
But like, retire, you don't have enough money.
01:00:15
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
01:00:19
Chris
Hmm.
01:00:19
tauntaunstink
what always blows my mind is, like some of these athletes know they're going to lose, right?
01:00:25
Chris
Yeah.
01:00:26
tauntaunstink
Like that, like especially like a lot of the speed trial stuff, they go into that sport knowing they're not the fastest person in this race and they're not going to win. Unless some weird fluke happens.
01:00:39
Chris
Yeah.
01:00:40
tauntaunstink
You've just trained your whole life for the sport. You you don't even win. Then what? You're just like a barista at Starbucks? Like, I don't... It's weird to me. and always feel that way about, like, college softball players.
01:00:56
tauntaunstink
And I don't say this to other people who work with us.
01:00:58
Chris
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:01:00
tauntaunstink
But, like, after college, then what?
01:01:01
Chris
Yeah. a I think you play in like Japan.
01:01:06
tauntaunstink
Is that a thing?
01:01:07
Chris
I think so.
01:01:08
tauntaunstink
Oh, okay.
01:01:09
Chris
Yeah.
01:01:10
tauntaunstink
Well, see, there's a then what? I didn't know there was a then what?
01:01:12
Chris
Yeah. But yeah, it's.
01:01:18
tauntaunstink
like I have buddy who played college baseball and he knew he wasn't good enough to make it into the majors. Now he works at oh you know a lawyer's office there a doing paperwork.
01:01:26
Chris
Right. Yeah.
01:01:28
tauntaunstink
you know it's just That's got to be a weird feeling that you spent your entire life up to that point training for this thing. And then all of a sudden you're like... I guess I'm going to feel that feeling in three years.
01:01:40
Chris
yeah yeah yeah
01:01:42
tauntaunstink
Right? But at least I'll get a pension out of it. don't know.
01:01:51
Chris
wouldn't it be funny if we're you we're talking about this and we go to work next week and and we figure find out that like one of the guys on c shift was a former olympian
01:02:01
tauntaunstink
It wouldn't surprise me because there's so many events now.
01:02:04
Chris
Mm-hmm.
01:02:06
tauntaunstink
like, oh, yeah, I was at the Junior World Olympics in fencing.
01:02:09
Chris
Yeah.
01:02:09
tauntaunstink
Whoa, cool.
01:02:10
Chris
yeah Yeah. yeah
01:02:12
tauntaunstink
That and $1.25 will almost get you a cup of coffee.
01:02:16
Chris
Yeah. which Side tangent to that, my stepdad does the senior Olympics sometimes.
01:02:24
tauntaunstink
Oh, that's fun.
01:02:24
Chris
Yeah, he does like discus and shot put, stuff like that. My oldest, this has been a few years ago, but was talking to friends was like, yeah, my step, my grandfather's in the Special Olympics.
01:02:39
tauntaunstink
ah
01:02:42
Chris
Like, you know, those are, those are separate things.
01:02:48
tauntaunstink
That's funny.
01:02:50
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
01:02:51
tauntaunstink
Yeah.
01:02:52
Chris
So.
01:02:54
tauntaunstink
Well, we're Olympians.
01:02:55
Chris
Yeah.
01:02:55
tauntaunstink
That's all I can say.
01:02:56
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. I mean,
01:02:57
tauntaunstink
I especially feel bad for Olympians this year because I feel like no one cares this year at all.
01:03:02
Chris
yeah well it but yeah and it it's yeah right yeah yeah yeah it's i guess know the hope was that it would distract the world but it's not going to yeah so yeah yeah just
01:03:07
tauntaunstink
With all the other things going on in the world, the Olympics are like so far down people's list.
01:03:18
tauntaunstink
not going to. Yeah. Never has. Never will. and all all And it's got to be terrible that this is your year and all you get is all the other crap that's going on just overriding your Olympic event.
01:03:33
Chris
Yeah.
01:03:34
tauntaunstink
Yeah.
01:03:34
Chris
Yeah.
01:03:35
tauntaunstink
It's terrible.
01:03:35
Chris
Yeah. it Mix it up for the last few events, you know, like, you know, at.
01:03:40
tauntaunstink
Take the figure skaters and put them on hockey.
01:03:42
Chris
Oh, yeah. I was going to say, yeah. Figure skate through the hockey game or curl through the hockey game.
01:03:46
tauntaunstink
Yeah.
01:03:47
Chris
Yeah.
01:03:48
tauntaunstink
like I like that playing.
01:03:49
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. Biathlon on the snowboard halfpipe.
01:03:51
tauntaunstink
Or you have to slalom through the biathlon course. So they're shooting around you.
01:03:56
Chris
Yes. Yes.
01:03:58
tauntaunstink
Yeah.
01:03:59
Chris
Yes.
01:03:59
tauntaunstink
and Now we got to sport.
01:04:00
Chris
Mm hmm. Yeah. Yeah.
01:04:06
Chris
Speed skating, but you have to do two jumps.
01:04:06
tauntaunstink
Yeah.
01:04:09
tauntaunstink
Oh, speed skating hurdles.
01:04:13
Chris
Oh, yes. See? Yes.
01:04:15
tauntaunstink
let's see we could We should just be in charge of things.
01:04:17
Chris
We should.
01:04:18
tauntaunstink
We'd make all this better.
01:04:18
Chris
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. yeah Yeah. You hear that NBC or whoever televises the Olympics? You want ratings for your guys.
01:04:28
tauntaunstink
Yeah, but they're all going to be death sports, basically.
01:04:32
Chris
They signed a waiver.
01:04:35
tauntaunstink
Grown ass men.
01:04:37
Chris
And women.
01:04:38
tauntaunstink
and women
01:04:38
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You were throwing your body for the Olympics every four years. Yeah. I bet that would cut down the number of people.
01:04:46
tauntaunstink
it definitely cut down a number of sports if you were like if you if if you knew that you signed up for some bullshit event and they could throw you into a death sport i bet a lot of those bullshit sports i bet those snowboard kids would not show up
01:04:48
Chris
Yeah.
01:04:57
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
01:05:04
tauntaunstink
I bet that break dance lady doesn't show up for her event when there's like, you might have to break dance yourself through the rowing team underwater.
01:05:06
Chris
yeah yeah Yep. Yeah.
01:05:13
Chris
Yeah.
01:05:13
tauntaunstink
Yeah.
01:05:17
Chris
Yeah.
01:05:18
tauntaunstink
Yeah.
01:05:21
tauntaunstink
Well, I think we've covered all the Olympics.
01:05:22
Chris
I think we have. yeah People are doing well. Hope you thaw out today.
01:05:29
tauntaunstink
Me too. It's not going happen, but I hope.
01:05:30
Chris
Yeah. Yeah. But yeah. well the
01:05:36
tauntaunstink
Be warm out there, folks.
01:05:36
Chris
but yeah Yeah, yeah.
01:05:38
tauntaunstink
And the watch out for tauntauns coming near you.
01:05:38
Chris
Take care.
01:05:42
Chris
Yeah, yeah. They're sneaky.
01:05:44
tauntaunstink
They're sneaky.
01:05:45
Chris
Take care, folks.
