When you land, you'll make your way to the snake temple. Built in 1850, named after the snakes that reside here, this place of worship is where our teams will find their next clue. But first they have to board the 2 a.m. charter um to the Seychelles airport on the island of Mahay.

So we have an equalizer here. Yeah. So that's lucky for the Cowboys. And we remember last episode, Steve Allie left their backpacks at the detour. And so they don't have... They don't have anything with them. They just have the clothes on their backs. Yeah.

Yeah, about other people. Carol and Brandy. Yeah. Like, the Cowboys haven't even mentioned another team at all. No. And Steve and Allie haven't. Dan and Jordan haven't. Like, Brent and Katie just really don't like the lesbians.

Yeah. Because on the first episode, they were, like, talking about Katie's... Kind of making fun of her. Yeah. And... They just have a like two cents. She has not let go. we land in Malaysia and the teams are taking taxis to this snake temple.

Dan and Jordan get there first and the clue is a detour. and The choices are Buddhist tradition or Chinese custom. So on the way there though, like they were fifth to get in a taxi out of the airport, but their taxi driver passed like all the other taxis and he was going super fast.

Yeah. And they unfortunately... Let their taxi go. Yeah, there we figured it the task would be right here. Yeah, which never assumed that. Yeah, why you let your taxi go? And not very often is like the first task when you get to a new place just right there. Yeah, you usually have to go somewhere.

Well, the choices for the detour are Buddhist tradition or Chinese custom. And in Buddhist tradition, they have to make their way to a temple and choose a set of 12 giant incense sticks.

That's hard to say. They have to carry the sticks up a steep incline of 150 steps. At the top, place the sticks into a giant burner and ignite the tips of the incense.

And then that word incense kind of makes me sound like I have a lisp. Then Chinese custom, they have to make their way to this like open Esplanade and choose a pair of enormous flagpoles. Oh, my alarm is going... um Enormous flagpoles known as Chinguei, which are customarily paraded to celebrate Chinese New Year.

They have to balance the 32-foot poles on their forehead and walk 120 feet across the park without dropping the flags. Yep. I think we would choose that one. Yes, even...

Before i saw how these detours play out, I immediately said we would do Chinese custom. Yeah. Because I think we could figure out the balance. And it's it's also, it's kind of like, even if you attempt that one a few times, and absolutely can't do it, then go to the other one. But it's obviously...

one of the detour decisions where it's, it's like, if you can get it quickly, you can be done so fast. Yeah. And 120 feet is not that far. and taking 10 poles up 150 stairs or something like that, like all, yeah and you know, it's going to be long. They all seemed surprised that they would have to take multiple trips too. I think they all got there and thought that they wouldn't be able to do it in one trip. And then they're like, Oh yeah.

Steve and Allie kind of originally did choose Buddhist or Chinese, whatever, the flags. But then they saw that Michael and Louis were going to go to the other one, so they decided to change their mind.

And then it seems like a few other teams at this also released their taxis because they kind of have a hard time finding taxis at this point. And Jet and Cord were the last ones to get a taxi out of this temple.

And Carol and Brandy, they get to the detour first. And like we said, there these incense sticks are huge. So they can only take two at a time helping each other.

and Brent and Katie show up. And everyone else is like in traffic trying to find this temple for the incense sticks. And Steve and Allie asked their driver, how close is it?

Can we walk? And he said about five minutes. Yeah. So they get out and start walking. And then Dan and Jordan see them walking. And so they get out and start walking too. But Louie and Michael stay in their taxi and they can see them walking. but they're like, we're going to stay in the taxi.

So. The Cowboys, Jet and Cord, get to the Chinese custom detour Cord finishes it on his very first try. Yeah. and Jet kind of struggles, but struggle is like he does it like three times and he gets it. Yeah, it just took him, you know, probably maybe five minutes to kind of figure it out. and then And they just went for it. You just have to way they go You have to like just like forward momentum.

Yeah, you kind of have to have the pole. It's on your forehead and it's huge. It's like the whole like yeah size of your forehead. And it's kind of tilted forward, but you have to keep your momentum going fast to just keep up with it. And we get to the end like you're done.

So Michael and Louis arrive at the detour. Yes. Next. And they also choose the Buddhist tradition. Yeah.

And um Brent and Katie are there. They're kind of passing up Carol and Brandy. And um dan and Jordan, Steve and Allie are still walking. So, Jack and Cord get to the temple and they see their speed bump there. And it says, make their make your way to this tropical spice garden and find the lady preparing spice teas.

Then using your sense of smell, you must determine which tea is made from the bowl of crushed spice and deliver the correct tea to this meditating guru who will give you your next clue. And so they do that and they ah find the lady pretty easily. she's There's teapots that I don't think you can open the lid. You just have to smell it or something like that. don't know. It seems like there's three choices too.

So they take the tea to the guru, which isn't too far away, but it's the wrong one, the first one. So they go back and they take a second tea and that one's the right one. So they are done with their speed bump.

So Jet is going to do it and he has to, um well, the people doing the roadblock have to take part in two Hindi rituals that ensure the encounter of good luck.

Ensure, don't know, something like First, they must smash coconuts until they find one with a bright color inside. Then using local materials and at least one piece of the colored coconut, they must build a traditional miniature offering known as a float and present it to the guru khal.

out in the ocean who will send it off to sea who and they do like their post interview and they they're like guess how we decided to do the roadblock cord just said jet you're doing it cord was like it was hot out there didn't want to do it they like he didn't even question it or even try or anything he just told them to do it yeah i wonder which was older brother I would guess Cord. he He looks and acts a little bit older. Yeah. um Yeah. So Jet's going to do it. And then Brandy and Carol and Brent and Katie finish the detour kind of like right right at the same time. Dan and Jordan arrive as Brent and Ezra like leaving.

Yeah. And then it shows Louie and Michael finishing the detour. So it kind of seems like they've made up a lot of time, but Louie was really struggling. He was coughing a lot. Like he was hacking. Yeah.

He was coughing lot. He said, I don't even want to talk about my cardio. It's not good. Yeah. But also that's probably a lot of incense in the air. Yeah. Because they're ginormous and they're each team is lighting 10 huge incense.

And I think that would probably make it hard to breathe as well. Yeah. They did – like when you kind of start watching the teams doing this detour, Brandy and Carol and Brent and Katie for sure only took like two at a time. Helping each other. Yeah. So like Brent would hold the front. Katie held the back and or and Brandy and Carol did the same. But Michael and Louie were carrying their own and Michael was carrying two at a time and Louie was carrying one or two at a time. So they probably did it in almost half the time. True.

Yeah. Yeah. So, and then did you notice his arms? I, Louie's arms were red and I was like, oh my gosh, he sunburned.

But I think it was that pink powder that was on the incense sticks. Yeah. That's what I thought exactly too. I was like, oh my gosh, he's going to like have cancer from that. It was bright red. Yeah. But yeah, I think it was the the die um so jet finishes oh he finds his colored coconut and he goes and builds his flow and finishes pretty quickly and they get the clue it says make your way to the historic section of the island search for the penang parin parinacan mansion and the pit stop for this leg of the race

And that's the only time in Amazing Race history so far that a team that came in last place, saved by non-elimination and having to do a speed bump, then came in first place on the next leg.

They got really lucky that there was an equalizer in the travel. Yes. But they also like did a perfect leg. Yeah. And it goes to show that the detour choice matters a lot.

It does. And in this leg, taxi drivers mattered a lot. Yes. And they they did make one small mistake at the very beginning to let their taxi driver go and they had to wait like five minutes because they had to call somebody to to get a taxi. But other than that, they like were perfect and they had a good taxi driver the whole rest of the time.

Yep. And Yeah. So – Good job. They did great. Yeah. And yeah, there's, there's so enjoyable to watch because they just work really hard and they get along positive and they just like try. Yeah. Try like the stick thing. Like they just, he literally just went for it and it worked worked out and Allie literally just gave up the second it was put on her head.

um katie finishes the roadblock so that means carol and brandy finishes team number two and louie michael are team number three louie michael probably have pretty good average right now because they ah did like three number ones in a row yeah this was number three

There was maybe one or two. The first two legs, they were like almost eliminated. Yeah. So that probably brought them down because when there's, when you're like ninth out of 10, that really brings down your average compared to like fifth out of sixth like third out of fourth.

So it'll be interesting to see what their overall average is after the end of it. So, um, yeah. And then Brent and Katie are team four. So we have Steve and Allie. They're finishing the detour. Dan and Jordan are done, but their taxi has to stop for gas.

but It's not like a detailed... like It has to look exactly like the example. So Jordan did finish before Steve and Ellie even arrived. Allie does the roadblock. So that means Dan and Jordan did check in his team number five and Steve and Allie is team number six. And they didn't really try and edit it to make it seem like it was like a taxi race to the end. it was just like... i thought it did Because they Steve and Allie got in the taxi and the cab like knew exactly where he was going. And then then this is where Dan and Jordan get stopped in traffic. And at the exact same time, it's like Dan and Jordan say, oh, this is it. And then right after Steve and Allie say, oh, here it is.

yeah Like for some team somewhere. And he hasn't been home a lot throughout her life. So this is like a chance for them to connect. And they really enjoyed that time together. and yeah So yeah, that's sweet. He says it was even better than... he The experience was better than getting a World Series ring.

Well, Steve and Allie, they actually had a really good average of 3.38. So they took fourth. Their worst placement was seventh in leg two.

I don't know. Um, So he was the coach of ah minor league team, the Indianapolis Indians, the mill ah Texas Rangers, then the Philadelphia Phillies. He was the third base coach, and that's who he won the World Series with as a coach in 2008.
